I love the mix of confidence and insecurity we see from Po. He replies to Jun's taunts when he really shouldn't, because he's used to thinking he owes people replies to their questions and accusations, but he doesn't actually believe Jun. He has experience with dating and he trusts that experience. I find that very realistic. Most insecure people aren't insecure in everything, but the insecurity still affects how they talk about the things they are confident about.

“Your hair’s gotten longer.” 

It’s conscious effort that keeps him from tucking the strands behind his ear, from taking the knife at his hip and shearing it all off. He keeps his stance focused, attentive, there’s little else he can do when he’s taken so completely after his mother when it comes to his hair. His father scratches his chin, the clouds of his beard snaking about his finger like mist parting for mountain-peaks. Ares’ chin is still child-smooth. He can feel the tickle of his over-long fringe against his soft jaw. There’s no heart in his chest, but still he feels as though a pulse is lodged in his throat. 

Father sighs, put-upon, disappointed, and Ares feels a slight tremor start in his calves from holding himself so tense. “Well done, Ares. Go clean yourself up and get some rest. Phoebus will want to look you over later.” 

He should be ecstatic to be praised by his father. Over-the-moon with joy. There should be pride emanating from every pore of his body, the blood on his skin should be sweeter than ambrosia. 

Instead, he bows, manages a soft ‘thank you, Father’ around the lump in his throat and immediately flees the room. A mild ‘make sure to trim your hair’ hits the back of his head like a spear through the skull. He almost wishes the great door had slammed on his foot so he would have reason to feel this horrid in his retreat.  

Phoebus Apollo is waiting for him in his infirmary. 

He’s gilded as ever, gold from crown to heel. Perfect like the statues they carve of him in his temples. He has a smile for Ares when he sees him, a crinkle at the edges of his pretty eyes from the weight of his joy. Ares is waiting to see the crack in the marble, to see if that’s the chip that’ll reveal his fangs.

“Brother,” he greets, and his voice is warm - like the arms that embrace him, his voice is so warm, “Welcome back. I’ve heard you’ve done well.”  

There’s a tremble in Ares’ fingers he hadn’t noticed before. Strain from carrying his sword for so many days, a throb from wounds he hadn’t noticed he’d accrued. “Heard? There’s already gossip?” 

Phoebus blinks, disarming, demure, coquettish, “But of course,” and Phoebus’ voice is honey to Ares’ gravel, the juxtaposition is grating on his skin, “It’s Olympus. The gossip began long before you set your course.” Those warm hands lead him further into the room, bodily sits him on the chaise, pulls his helmet from his head. It’s all one, unbroken motion, “It’s summer alas, so I could not watch your war myself, but I hear it was quite the decisive victory.” 

A thousand thoughts run on horseback through his mind then. 

Did Father overhear some terrible slander that pre-emptively disappointed him? Was Ares’ victory merely a rumour, a bet his father hadn’t bothered to take? Was the gossip more enticing than the stark truth? That Ares wasn’t some child toddling about in the shadow of his sister, that his sword and spear weren’t merely for show - he’d think such a thing would warrant celebration. Not -

“Oh my,” Phoebus is in front of him, pleasant warmth more sticky heat with how close he’s pressed himself into Ares’ space. From this angle, Ares can see the multi-coloured flecks of his eyes, like shards of golden glass suspended in ichor. From this angle, with his hand so gently holding his hair, were Ares to blink too hard, he’d swear Phoebus looked just like his mother. “Your hair’s grown long again.” 

He pushes Phoebus off with such force that he bangs into the wall. It’s Phoebus, it won’t make even the impression of a scratch on him, but Ares wishes it would. Wishes he’d hit his shoulder or crack his neck or hit his head just hard enough for all that perfect, gilded gold to bleed. 

“I’m only here for you to heal me,” the tremble in his hand extends to his shoulder now. He flexes and unflexes his palm. Gods what he would give to just have a sword - “Don’t waste time with the pleasant-work.” 

Phoebus huffs, adjusts the fit of his himation, “...Only because we’re meant to be celebrating your victory.” He crosses the room in two great strides, his hair a swirling tempest behind him as he gathers his poultices and wraps. “The only reason I’ll not throw you from the window is because we are meant to be celebrating your victory.”  

There’s not enough acid in his tone for this to truly be a fight. Ares’ jaw clenches, he bites out a terse, “How benevolent.” 

“Aren’t I?” He’s got nectar and his sutures in hand, that focused look falling upon his face when he switches from overbearing busybody to Paeon of the Gods. “Now strip unfaltering Ares, let us see the measure of damage done to your indomitable flesh.” 

(Somewhere between the fifth set of stitches and the gentle frown that crosses Phoebus’ face when he notices the persistent tremble in his fingers, Ares pins his eyes to the far wall and asks, “What does it mean when Father says ‘well done’?” 

Any other sibling would mock before they gave a true response. Any other sibling would laugh and dismiss it, would say that praise is praise and any lingering ill feeling is just the worst of the war still fogging his mind. Phoebus does not answer immediately. He doesn’t make a single sound. The question settles like fetid water between them, unignorable, the scent right there on the tip of the tongue yet firmly unacknowledged. Ares closes his eyes and tries again to settle his squirming so he does not interfere with Phoebus’ work.  The metallic snip of scissors cutting thread breaks the silence. Phoebus bids him to sit up and slides his warm palms up his back until his fingers tangle gently in the ends of his hair. He twists the dark red strands until he’s gathered it all into a neat handful, holding it loosely as he switches his scissors for his shearing blade. “You should know it was not praise,” Phoebus says softly. The first of Ares cut hairs fall like viscera from his head. Phoebus treats each cutting with the sacredness of a blood-sacrifice. If he focused on the moment of tension right before the blade cuts though, Ares thinks he can imagine the agony of his sister’s sacred birth. “It is acknowledgement. Father thinks you’ve done well so he says ‘well done’.”

Gently, Phoebus releases him. Ruffles his head so all the extra hairs fall like red rain to the floor. Ares runs his fingers through the ends now curling against his ear. “Has he ever told you ‘well done’?” 

A laugh, warm and gilded, “No, and it would not make you feel better if he had.” 

Ares swallows down a thousand different questions. Phoebus wouldn’t answer them, he’s infuriating like that. Instead, he clenches his teeth, the phantom of Father’s dizzying tangle of grey cloud-hairs persistent in the corner of his eyes. “Cut it shorter.”

Phoebus doesn’t protest. He never seems to say a word when it really matters.)

another thing i love about laios:

HE IS GENUINELY A REALLY GOOD LEADER!!

despite struggling with the finer points of socializing, he has all the qualities necessary to be a good leader.

(i refer to the manga a lot in this post as someone who's read most of the manga at this point, but i avoided any specific spoilers)

He cares about all his teammates' well-being

He is extremely level-headed in a crisis

He is excellent at strategizing (within his areas of expertise; in the manga someone eventually points out he's pretty much useless at fighting other humans, lol)

If a plan fails, he is immediately thinking up a fallback plan - he doesn't give up

He is acutely aware of his teammates' strength and weaknesses, and accurately assigns them tasks suited to them in times of need.

He is perhaps not innately a 'leader-type'; he's fine deferring to the rest of the party most of the time, even when he doesn't understand why. (Just going along with the blindfold in the sauna for example, lol.) He was ready to head back into the dungeon by himself before Chilchuck and Marcille volunteered to come along. He doesn't think of himself as particularly smart or special. And when the party meets others (such as the old gnome couple) they don't tend to assume Laios is the leader.

But he has an unwavering vision (during the story it's rescuing Falin), and, you see it again and again: when they enter difficult combat, or any time things fall apart and everyone is panicking, Laios steps up and takes charge. His calmness helps everyone else calm down, and they generally follow his lead. They intuitively look to him in a crisis, to the point they're shocked the few times he doesn't have any ideas.

It kind of ties into another thought I have; he is repeatedly seen as "having no interest in other people" by other characters, but this isn't really true! He struggles to understand people and he is aware that they struggle to understand him. This leads to him mostly focusing on the things he IS good at understanding, such as monsters. But he genuinely makes a big effort to understand the people he cares about. In the manga, there are times you see him think deeply about his friends' struggles and motivations. For much of the early arcs, he understands Chilchuck better than Marcille or Senshi do. He and Marcille don't get each other that well at the start of the story, but by the end they have a very strong reciprocal friendship.

I could go on about it honestly but this post is already very long. Tl;dr laios one of the characters of all time to me and i think people should appreciate his leadership skills more!!

Ace Attorney fandom.

I know why people don't like Turnabout Bigtop. I am among the people who dislike Turnabout Bigtop.

But I GET why people like the case. I'm not going to be one of those annoying people who just blindly dump on it because I hate those mfs too.

Thing about Bigtop isn't that it sucks. Thing isn't the weird grooming stuff (though that is a huge part of it). It's not that it could've been good.

It's that - in my personal OPINION - it could have been *great*.

I think it had the potential to be one of the best third cases in the trilogy. It had everything; a fun and goofy setting fit for a pretty dang goofy lawyer game - where the environment itself had jokes and quips and one-liners and mishaps and tomfoolery written all over it, it had the previous case introducing a very interesting and important plotline that gave background for one of the more well-loved characters while also introducing an equally fucked up and lovable new one who was a child forced into a shit childhood of naivete in a CIRCUS with another character who was very naive and childish - whose interactions could have been funny and cute and reflective of said shit from the previous case (seriously she becomes such an important character in the 4th case, WHY would they not include her in this one for some character development? How did they fuck up letting a CHILD explore a CIRCUS?? That would have made the interactions flow MUCH better).

They had a pretty good, sympathetic killer imo, a morally dubious victim, an asshole of a client (who was pretty flat admittedly in-game, but I like his weird, topsy-turvy reasoning for it in the anime. Also, I think Max being kinda a dick would have bode well for the themes of Farewell since most of his clients up to this point have been like...nice? Not nice, but sympathetic, but him having to defend someone who's innocent but a prick would have shown him that just because someone is an asshole, doesn't mean they deserve to suffer for it and that they have the potential to grow as people, which is almost a complete foil to what Matt was. Ultimately, I would have loved the contrast of them as clients and I think it would have also served as character development for Phoenix, especially with his low-empathy tendencies).

They just didn't think that far ahead. They just didn't execute it well enough. They just decided to make three of the adult characters fight for the hand in marriage of a teenage girl. (Bat's part of the story was actually kinda good if he was just YOUNGER, I think him doing that for Regina would have been a stupid thing someone in the circus would do to impress their crush. Damn you Ace Attorney and your weird treatment of underage girls!!)

It just flopped and that's ok.

Even though it kinda sucked, it can still mean something to me.

Also I'm a Moe Curls apologist. I liked him, shut up.

what do you think drew dazai to ango in the dark era + do you have any thoughts on his feelings about him now?

I like to think of the Buraiha trio as this group of people that have absolutely nothing in common between each other, yet immediately click for some unknown reason. Maybe it's precisely the curiosity of knowing someone who's nothing like you, the yearning of getting to know them more and more which makes it so that you would never tire out of spending time with them. I think that's what Dazai used to feel towards Ango. I feel like Buraiha as a whole was a well balanced trio of people that enjoyed each other's presence; a so perfectly balanced combination where every member is equally fundamental to the group's standing, that losing even one person would immediately mean irreparably breaking the bond between all of them and would cause an equal great grief for everyone- which is what happened.

Dazai cared about his little safe place in Dark Era sooooooo much. And like, how could it have been any different. Here you have this young man who's been deeply lonely¹ his whole life, who infinitely struggles to connect with other people and who struggles to find a reason to live, finally having found a space where he can hang out with people he considers friends, who don't quite understand him but who still care about him and who he cares about back. Someone he can feel a little more light around. It was literally the first time this man found relief in his life, as well as likely the first time he ever experienced genuine happiness in his 18 years of life.

Of course Dazai despised Ango when he ruined that, when he chose his loyalty to the government over their friendship. Of course Dazai felt betrayed and can't forgive Ango for that. I do believe Dazai still loves Ango - because what the three of them shared at Buraiha was deep and unconditional -, but I don't think he can ever forgive him, and I don't think Dazai can ever be in good terms with Ango again. Though, their latest interactions in the manga quite contradict this, since Dazai didn't really manifest any hard feeling when cooperating with Ango, so who knows! ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭

It's kind of sweetly tragic how devoted Ango is to Dazai. He's willing to do anything, to be denigrated and hated to no end for Dazai, because he knows nothing will make up for what he's done, but he still feels like he's forever indebted towards Dazai for the loss he caused him. It's so contradictory, how Ango was willing to betray Dazai for the sake of the government, but is now going to betray the same government out of the guilt he feels towards Dazai; but it's also contradictory in the way humans are, you know?

¹ Before Buraiha, Dazai had Mori, and Chuuya. And although I think in different ways both lessened Dazai's loneliness, for different reasons and circumstances they weren't all around positive relationships like Buraiha was for him.

Funnily enough I’ve been slowly working on and off on a silly lil comic including the King from Reverse Entry AU recently. So have a messy concept sketch of what he’ll look like. Before the mumblings under the cut (design will most likely be tweaked later tbh ASFASD)

To talk about the King I also need to talk a tiny bit about this Siffrin’s background, so here is the briefest of rundowns for them first (which will prob get a more elaborate post some other time):

Siffrin’s parents used to run a storefront (refer to first bullet point section in this post). 

It was their life’s work and they loved that place dearly, since they built it themselves from the ground up.

However, his parent’s passed when he was 19-20, and that storefront ended up falling into his hands.

They were in college at the time, and ended up switching majors to try to get better know-how in running a business.   

But at the end of the day, they had to sell it.

[the above premise was heavily inspired by stuff that happens in a webtoon with the initials GH since it is very near and dear to me actually] 

With that established, onto talking about the King in relation to above!

The King was a family friend to Siffrin’s parents.

The wooden crown is actually a gag gift from one of Siffrin’s parents due to “The King” being a nickname for him from college, it’s not actually his name ASFASDA.

(It’s actually too big for his head and sometimes it falls above his eyes actually LMAO)

For a time, he worked underneath the storefront when he was down on his luck, and he is eternally grateful for that.

After he got back up on his feet, he still made sure to visit from time to time, and even helped lead a couple of the crafts sessions the store did. 

When Siffrin’s parents passed, he was devastated, since they were close, and had known each other basically forever.

And they had done a lot for him when he needed help as well.

But, at the time he was not in the best position to try and help with the storefront from a financial standpoint.

However, he, alongside a couple of others, did try to volunteer around the storefront to help it stay running for a time (it was well-beloved in the community, after all!)

It just wasn’t enough. 

He was one of the few people at the time who was against Siffrin’s decision to sell it off to some random company

(which happened to be the crafts company that Siffrin and the King and literally everyone else now work for now)

Mainly due to knowing what that store meant to Siffrin’s parents / how it helped him when he was at his lowest / overall having lots of good memories tied to it / he didn't want to let one of the last remnants of his friends to be thrown to the wind 

And to end this off, some miscellaneous tidbits on the King in the present time of this AU:

The King actually joined the company specifically because it was the one to buy out the Siffrin Family Storefront™ and usurped what they were doing with it

But uh…. he’s like in the IT department?

And has like no real influence on what goes on with whatever acquisitions the company makes

Or what the company does with them LMAO (without it being probably directly illegal)

Best he can do is be a nuisance to those working around it tbh

Like actively slowing down conversations on fully discontinuing the products attached to the storefront to further stretch out its life?

Or being annoying with tech and just? Not being helpful. When people are having system issues that cause delays in work despite being a main contact.

And in general probably being more nosy in places he probably shouldn’t be tbh.

Stuff like that!

There’s a chance that some of this gets tweaked the slightest bit / elaborated more on later since I am always Indecisive, but those are the vibes!

alright, so here's one of the things I love most about bokris: they just complement each other perfectly, which I feel like can be summed up pretty nicely by saying that Bojan is more extroverted and Kris is more introverted. the way I see it, that kind of dynamic is really one of the fundamental factors that determines how they act around each other (at least when they're in public or know they have cameras on them).

in their interviews, for example, Bojan always does the most talking (which makes sense since he's the frontman, but also he clearly just likes to talk 😭) and if they're with the whole band in a group setting, Kris does the second most talking usually. howeverrrrr I actually feel like Kris speaks less when it's just him and Bojan together without anyone else. maybe it's something to do with being conscious about having more attention on him, or mayyyyybe it's because he'd rather listen to Bojan talk, OR if we're running with the theory of Kris getting slightly flustered whenever Bojan looks at him whilst he's speaking, he's trying to avoid that a little bit 🤭

I also like to think that being introverted/extroverted gives a bit of an insight into how they show affection towards each other (and I mean platonically just as much as I mean the weird kinda flirting they have going on 😭). Bojan is more likely to show it outwardly in ways that are reeeeeally obvious, like the heart eyes and the constant touching and stroking Kris' hair or handing him the microphone to sing into (which, let's be honest, is always a bit... erotic). but I think Kris is a lot more reserved about it (when he knows that eyes are on them) and I think it's more subtle, like affectionately calling Bojan "Boki" and not being able to stop smiling when he's in Bojan's company. and let me tell you... I am absolutely WEAK for that dynamic 🫠

honestly I just love the connection that they have. it's every fanfic writer's dream and it just brings me sooooo much joy 🥰
