hi! star stable online lifetime membership is not worth it in current year imo. source: been playing since 2013, bought lifetime in like 2015 or 2016 or something. lifetime is only worth it if you have an attachment to the game like i do and intend to play for numerous years into the future. my lifetime purchase (or rather, my mom buying it for me because i was still a kid) was worth it because my crippling nostalgia causes me to play it still every now and then.

it's not a very good game, it sucks pretty bad actually, but it filled a niche for kid me of being a game where i could roleplay as a horse, and it genuinely had quite a lot of charm. the current marketing practices and the obvious struggle of the dev team trying to drag along the 20-year-old engine is painful to watch and i cannot recommend it due to grievances i've had with the game over the years.

tl;dr don't buy it unless you mean to play for years into the future- and i wouldn't recommend doing that. it was fun when i was a kid and had no standards because it had horses, but now? not so much.

Experience: Yikes, this dates back to when I was much younger, and before I even used the internet for roleplaying. I started off writing on pen and paper with my cousin and a bunch of friends. We would pass paper or journals back and forth, taking turns writing out scenes or responses from a variety of characters. Mostly, at those times, it was for Teen Titans, Naruto, Bleach, and a few others. I'm going to safely say that early high school was when I took it online, starting off on a couple of forums and chat rooms [ namely, Chatango ]. I frequently roleplayed via text message, email, and instant messengers. I still do this with like, one person via FB Messenger, lol. I occasionally roleplay on Discord, too.

Preferred roleplay type: I gravitate towards whatever my mood and energy seeks out. Unfortunately, I used to do things in a very organized manner, but that time has long since passed me. I am easily exhausted, distracted, and just. . . can't keep up! I prefer things with some substance, but I'm not strict on moving larger plots unless we've communicated it or have a larger goal in mind for our writing. I love just having fun and going with the flow! I'm open to most types, too, though I don't typically do single-liners unless it's like. . . me being goofy on the dash.

Pet peeves & dealbreakers: Automatic assumption of our characters knowing each other! Unless we have talked it over, or your muse is a canon character within the universe that he's interacted with, please don't do this! It makes me [ and Stolas ] uncomfortable!

Absolute dealbreaker - If you think Stolas is an abuser / disregard his being in an abusive relationship, my blog is NOT for you. I've made this clear a few times and wrote up a whole PSA for my portrayal!

Shipping - I've said it a few times, and I'm always willing to go over it for anyone curious, but my Stolas WILL NOT have any sexual or romantic interest in women. At most, if talked through with the other mun's, you'll get a little drunken flirtation. But there will be NO follow up. That being said, I can be a shipping whore [ affectionate ]. I love shipping! And if Stolas finds you attractive, then damn, he WILL flirt! However. . . . I will never just auto-ship with anyone, and I will be taking into consideration how Stolas would / wouldn't feel with your character. There needs to be some sort of interactions to base these things off of before we get into the big stuff. Again, though, if you see something that makes you tilt your head, it's probably because the mun and I have talked privately and are in cahoots with the idea!

So I've been really into this visual novel, Scarlet Hollow, for a minute now. The devs are a husband and wife team who are better known for their more recent indie darling, Slay the Princess. Scarlet Hollow is kind of the red headed step child with fans though. People are hesitant to play it because it is steam open access because it is not yet complete. Which is fair - so many cool indie projects go unfinished and it sucks to get invested just to never get a complete story.

However, I fail to see the difference between watching a new TV show that could be canceled at the whims of its network versus an indie project that your support can personally help keep afloat. It's genuinely puzzling how many people in steam discussions get mad about the game not updating fast enough (ten dollars, one time entry fee that gets you every new chapter for free btw) when the devs have been transparent about their update schedule and what they're working on, super consistently, for years.

It's got like 500k worth of words, and lots of branching choices that make replay value crazy high. I still haven't gotten all the scenes possible in the chapters that are currently available (four out of a planned seven) and on my last playthrough discovered a particularly nasty ending to the most recent chapter that I've never seen anyone talk about on here or Reddit.

For better or worse, most of the in depth relationship mechanics are completely hidden from the player. While this allows for a more genuine roleplaying experience, especially for a first play through, it does make it a bit harder when you're replaying with goals in mind. It's an incredible amount of work under the hood that results in contextual relationships, and the amount of choices allowed to the player are staggering.

Whatever game you've played that is narrative focused and prioritizes choice mechanics is probably NOTHING compared to Scarlet Hollow's ability to let the player choose the direction of events, minor and major.

That's not even starting on the art assets. If you've played a visual novel before, there are typically three key assets: Sprites for general dialogue, environments to establish settings, and CGs for special moments that get illustrated out. Often these are important moments like romance, or action.

Scarlet Hollow uses so many unique sprites and backgrounds it's wild. Your general sprites are ofc the traditional 3/4ths view of a character facing the player, but often the sprites are positioned in an environment like a CG, only for you to realize they're sprites when they move closer or further away and interact with their environment. It's effective and illustrative in a way I wish more VNs embraced, but also means a shit ton more art assets to make, as well as up filesize of the game.

I haven't even touched on the story or characters, Jesus. Another time.

Well I guess this is a long-winded way to say if you're into visual novels I highly recommend Scarlet Hollow by Black Tabby Games lol. The first chapter is free on steam last I checked, and I do think it's a bit of a slow burn but ultimately an intriguing gothic horror I'm excited to see truly ramp up and play out. The next chapter will probably release in 2025 and is projected to almost double the word count of the entire game so far iirc. Keeping all those narrative choices in hand is NOT easy work. Oh, and the devs keep adding more scenes to earlier chapters. Fucking wild. I admire them immensely. They're so dedicated to the project and it's incredible to see what they keep coming out with.

WIP Questionnaire

What’s the first part of your WIP that you created?

The characters. They existed as deviantart ocs that I used to roleplay with in chatrooms before any semblance of a story existed. This was back in high school.

If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

I'll give a few examples here because there's a lot of songs I think fit the vibe of the story (I have a 4-hour long playlist of "soundtrack" songs)! All of these are based on pure vibes, not necessarily lyrics. For a TV show, I think a folk revival type song like "Over Again" by Stick in the Wheel or "Cannily Cannily" by Maddy Prior and Tim Hart would be sick. If it was a short instrumental intro song, an eerie tune like "More Bones to Sort" from the OTGW soundtrack or this song would work well. To get more general Rasputina is an artist whose overall sound is something that would work great for the story. If you don't know them they're a band that makes rock music with cellos and is very weird and goth about it.

What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?

I love them all, but right now I have to admit my favorite is Tristan. It's definitely partially because he's the most developed right now, but also because he's the reason I revived the story after dropping it almost 10 years ago. I remembered him and thought he had potential and fell in love with him all over again. Coming up with ideas for his arc and his backstory got me excited for the overarching story again, and I changed him from a side character to a main character. I have a lot of fun with his personality and I relate to him a lot on a personal level.

What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share?

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, Over the Garden Wall, Labyrinth, possibly Interview with the Vampire? and people who grew up with things like Hocus Pocus and A Series of Unfortunate Events. Maybe fans of Neil Gaiman? It's kind of hard to say though; I have no idea how the story would be marketed because it's..pretty weird lol.

What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?

Not sure what the biggest of them all is, but my big three I guess would be plotting, research, and actually writing. I feel like I'm hitting my head on a wall when I try to outline story beats or whatever, so I think I'll just have to fly by the seat of my pants and plot as I go. Research also feels like a hurdle I need to get past because I want to base the story itself on actual mythology and folklore, and root the "real-world" parts of the story in the real historic regency period. Right now I know enough to share fun facts in a conversation, but in reality I don't know shit. I have a lot of work to do in that regard. Actually writing has been a challenge due to a combination of annoying factors including having very little free time in my life, executive dysfunction, and being? scared? of writing? because what if it comes out bad? Which I know is silly but it blocks me from writing a lot of the time nevertheless.

Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

Right now I'm thinking Crispin has a pet bat named Sparrow. Crispin named the bat Sparrow because he literally thought it was a sparrow, that being the only flying creature he knew of at the time. Now he knows better, but Sparrow is still Sparrow. I haven't thought much about it, but I think Crispin's keeping of a pet is one of the things that indicates he's different from his family/species, i.e. he experiences empathy and longs for companionship. The demon Tristan summons can shapeshift, and takes the form of many different creatures throughout the story.

How do your characters travel/get around?

Considering the time period, the options are limited. There's a lot of walking in this story, but also getting from place to place by carriage or cart. There's likely to be some horseback riding as well. In terms of the supernatural, Crispin can "teleport" himself from point A to point B using magic--but not very far. I still need to figure out the specifics of that though. Tristan is greatly aided in getting around by the demon he summoned, who transforms into a flying black steed Tristan can ride on.

What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

Right now I'm bouncing around and writing snippets of scenes that come to mind/interest me most. I'm considering everything experimental at the moment, and not committing to anything actually being in the final novel. This is helping me get over my fear of writing, and I like it because sometimes I end up liking what I write more than I thought I would. I also *might* write the story in novella form first, try out some things with that, learn from it, and then expand and/or rewrite it as a full novel. Other than that I'm researching and brainstorming and drawing (which is part of my process)!

What aspects (tropes, maybe?) will you think draw your audience in?

Hmmm I think the fact it's a dark fantasy/horror story and the fact it's set in the regency period will attract people. The regency period and fantasy are both really popular right now (as far as I can tell). Also the fact that it has found family, which seems to be a popular trope. The fact it has queer characters might be appealing too. Other draws might be the Halloween aspect, and the deal with the devil trope. And if anyone likes enemies to friends and twist villains. There's also heavy use of gothic tropes and subverting them/combining them with folk horror tropes. Regency media (cough cough Jane Austen) tropes will also go under the knife of subversion.

What are your hopes for your WIP?

I hope to make it a published novel! Ideally traditionally published, but who knows if that'll happen lol. I also want the book to be illustrated, and to illustrate it myself. Besides that, I'd love to do some comics featuring the characters and maybe even short animations. (She said as if she had endless free time...)

I really love this series a lot and I rlly don’t wanna spoil stuff when it comes to all the LGBTQ+ centric parts of the show since they do relate to prominent plots from all the seasons and especially one of the spinoffs.

Also warning for QSMP spoilers, but uh… if ya knew me prior to this year, you probably wouldn’t have needed that :p

All I’m gonna say before we go into spoilers is that Spiderbit and TomJake give me similar vibes :D

So I’ve been thinking about my main fixations (QSMP & Disventure Camp) recently

Like yeah, both of them have their differences; QSMP’s a minecraft roleplay server and Disventure Camp’s an animated web series that essentially an animated reality show in the vain of Total Drama (I even saw some people mistaking it for a new Total Drama season too lol)

But there’s a bunch of similarities between them too; They’re both created by people with Latin-American roots, I’m aware that there are a bunch of flaws within both of them for a lot of things but I love them both nonetheless, I joined Twitter mainly to see more fanart about both of them, etc.

Also they both have a lot of LGBTQ+ representation :D

• CELLBIT FIRST PROPOSED TO ROIER WITH A DONUT INSTEAD OF A RING TO IMPROVISE SINCE RINGS COULDN’T BE CRAFTED DESPITE ALL THE MODS QSMP HAS. BUT AFTER THEIR PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED DATE, CELLBIT PROPOSED TO ROIER AGAIN. USING A DONUT. INTENTIONALLY

• AND ROIER ACCEPTSSSSS

• Cellbit said he’d kill anyone that speaks about the elections before/during his wedding, but when Roier asks if he could talk about the elections he’s like “Yeah, sure. Talk about whatever you want guapito” (FUCKING GAYYYYY)

• THEIR WEDDING STRAIGHT UP CHANGED MY FUCKING BRAIN CHEMISTRY

• “Roier, you… were the first person I saw when I arrived on this island. In the midst of all that chaos… you were the first one to appear in the crowd. And ever since I saw your smile… I knew… I would never forget it. When I needed someone the most… when I was completely alone… you showed up. • also side note; I’m really happy that they got married early on in QSMP’s storyline. Like usually with LGBT couples, they get together around the end of a story/series. But with QSMP, they speedran this gay shit since Cellbit only joined the server 2-ish months prior to his & Roier’s wedding kkkkkkkkk

• THEY HAVE HEALTHY COMMUNICATION? AND HURT/COMFORT? AND FLUFF? AND FUCKED UP MORALS? AND THEY’RE MURDER HUSBANDS? FUCK YEAH I LOVE THAT SHIT

• But yeah, capital letters aside, Cellbit and Roier have a really great relationship, and their dynamic (which extends to their respective CCs) is so fun to watch, and the fact that they’re both willing to commit first-degree murder together is simultaneously kinda fucked up & wholesome

• I could honestly talk about those two for an entire essay and about how Purgatory is non-existent to me, but we got other stuff to talk about

• Seeing Fitpac‘s slow burn tested my patience and ruined the word roommates for me, but OH MY GOD WERE ALL THE MOMENTS IN BETWEEN SO GREAT

• “I’m on Quesadilla Island, on very important business, and it’s like- yeah I.. I like Pac…” THIS SHIT MADE ME SO FUCKING HAPPY WHEN I FIRST HEARD HIM ADMIT IT

• Fit’s character as a nomad/mercenary from 2b2t (THE OLDEST ANARCHY SERVER IN MINECRAFT-) being sent onto quesadilla island for money and a chance for freedom with the warning to not get attached to anyone, yet gaining feelings for another guy despite that alongside his implied internalized homophobia is just. I need a minute guys

• Also hats off to Ramon & Richarlyson for basically encouraging Fit & Pac respectively to get their gay shit together. They’re two of my favourite eggs for a reason >:D (alongside Chunsik ofc. But if ya seen my AO3 works that’d be kinda obvious :>)

• DURING THE CONFESSION, FIT WENT OUT OF HIS GODAMN WAY TO SAY “I LIKE YOU” TO PAC IN PORTUGUESE

• Trevek’s storyline could’ve been handled better during All Stars, but them being really cute together in their spinoff episode and in the recent DC4 episodes honestly gives them a pass for me

• Also they’re based off of the two guys that co-created Disventure Camp (they’re also married btw, good for them) so that’s cute :D

• Also Huntally mention even tho it’s a “hetero” ship because Ally’s Bisexual and Hunter’s Pansexual. They’re a great couple, and their kiss during the All Stars finale was cute :D

• There’s some potential gay pairings/characters in Season 4/Carnival of Chaos AND I LOVE IT

• Anarissa and Diencer are so canon. It’s only been three episodes but Marissa already called Anastasia pretty, and Diego keeps staring at Spencer like he wants that cookie so effing bad. Also both of these pairings are on a nickname basis so yknow :>

• i gotta mention my faves Tristan & Hannah being Non-binary and Bisexual respectively >:D

• Also Natalia’s transfem and already has some of the best quotes of the season. I hope she makes it far :D

• Logan’s definitely gonna have a plot that’ll culminate with him realizing he’s bi, which’ll most definitely involve him going to Richard for advice since he’s also into sports & happily married to his husband AND I AM ALL FOR IT >:D

• There’s also a lot more subtle-ish LGBTQ+ rep in throughout Disventure Camp too. A bunch of other characters from the first 2 seasons like Lake, Dan, Tess, & Karol were confirmed to be Lesbian, Asexual, Bisexual, etc thanks to some Pride Month promo art (side note: the pride month art for 2024 included James & Aiden having their respective flags tied together and it’s the cutest shit ever). And during the auditions that were posted prior to S4, Jade mentions she has two moms, and Richard talks about his husband and how he loves him a lot(aw :D)

• They really had a 2 season long “will they, won’t they” plot but it was so worth it in the end

• They were canon the moment Miriam teased Jake about him liking Tom during episode 6. Argue with the wall /j

• also if you want my opinions on the double greetings, I just wanna say 1) pretty great idea imo. A lot of fan service potential since you get to bring two characters together to banter, and even kiss in the case said characters are canonically together, 2) the money used to buy said greetings go into funding for the show and everyone that works in it, which is great, and 3) yes, my favourite ones involve Gabellie, Jaiden, & Tomjake kissing

6. least popular fic this year

Probably A Very Fine Line, which was also the only SWTOR fic I got out this year. I guess all my AO3 followers nowadays are following me for BG3 content and not SWTOR, or maybe I just didn't tag this one well! But easily the lowest hit count I've had for fics written this year.

"Found Family" is my favourite trope (which I think I knew before anyway, I just never actually said it?), and I'm a more versatile writer than I know! Some writers focus primarily on one or two genres (which makes them masters of their craft!), I tend to bounce between everything that's not horror-related. ;) Angst? Domestic fluff? Smut? I probably have a fic for that!

for Loki & Tory: this is going to be a much shorter blurb than the Loki & Maci blurb is about to be lmao. (Tho still quite long). Okay i said all that shit in Maci’s installment about Tory’s full name being Alastor and how Maci knew him as a mortal and so never uses it — Loki also has a thing against nicknames, generally, which I discuss more on the Maci section - HOWEVER THOSE TWO THINGS BEING SAID, Loki does still primarily refer to Tory simply as Tory. Kay lemme clarify the main character residents of the palace all knew him mainly AS Tory before he became a daemon and absorbed the name Alastor so everyone does basically just call him Tory exclusively. Loki included!

During the Eisa/Einmyria conception drama events long ago, baby!Bel had informed Loki that Tory would listen to his “real name” and during that time specifically and only Loki HAS snapped Alastor at him a couple of times when they had been fighting, as Tory had been daemon shifted many times during his pregnancy and when in a fit of rage (Loki’s antics and vitriol bubbling him and then over into mutual tantrums) calling him this did successfully always get his attention. hwhoops! That was a bad time though and it’s really not a name Tory goes by amongst family and friends so there’s never been a need to refer to him as such really since. Loki keeping it in his back pocket??? Sure lol. But they’ve never been that bad again with each other.

Now, Loki has always liked Tory actually, back since the days when they first met,… even if that’s not a sentiment he’s ever been very passionately open about, solely since Loki’s not very passionately open about his true feelings about ANYONE. He’s certainly always visibly tolerated Tory much more than he has Maci, way before the Taki Fuego dynamic ever began at least. Loki’s not really a sincere pet name type of person in most circumstances, so even in his head, to him Tory’s always just been simply Tory. at least he’s not carrying a laundry list of insulting names.

I say not REALLY a pet name person cause offhandedly Loki will casually slip a “dear” or “darling” in light conversation. But That’s merely here and there, not with any sort of real tender intimacy; and not Tory specific, as his kids get those, and like, Epi/Eury, Jesse/Laphi too. Though very genuinely nonchalant casual, flippant endearment, it is notably only amongst those whose company he permits himself to keep and is a level of familiarity that’s not permitted amongst EVERYONE, so….

…unless that’s a darling being used in condescending derision. Which is also valid and has popped up in sarcastic banter to Tory (and others!) over the years.

On THAT note, Loki does use Tory’s Royal titles sometimes… but SOLELY in the context of condescending derision. Lmao. Tory is much more down to earth than Maci is and receiving his titles of Underworld royalty was merely a kind of uncomfortable sudden thing that Tory had to learn to get used to. Loki uses them rarely and exclusively to irritate Tory or dryly snap at him— “Oh CERTAINLY, Your Highness” et cetera, or “Thank you, O Prince, for the honor” dripping with absolute sarcasm, etc etc.

Try as Maci might to turn it into a hot roleplay sex thing, Tory really doesn’t actually get much off of Loki purring royalty at him with any sort of submissive sincerity. “Sarcastically” is really the only context and times that Loki calls him any of that, even when they’re playing around. Okay fine one exception for just offhandedly in tandem with Maci (serving my Prince and Princess ;)))) etc etc…. but that’s really for Maci lmAO)…. for Loki & Maci: OoooooOoOoHH IM SO EXCITED TO SHARE a fun fact about Loki and her actually that I’m sure I’ve never mentioned here!! It’s that Loki is one of the few people, maybe even the only person, who actively uses Maci’s full name! He almost always calls her Macaria!!

EVERYONE calls Maci Maci. Even the people she doesn’t get along with - Thanatos doesn’t use her full name; even her wretched father, even as formal and standoffish as he is, called her Maci like 80% of the time; but not Loki lmao.

It’s part of his nature to naturally steer away from nicknames, it’s a,, naming convention that doesn’t really come naturally to him (or his. Brother. you know.) as someone who’s always been VERY formal and proper and upon first even meeting her as Macaria, but call me Maci, he’s always just referred to her formally anyway. Yeah Thor has always done the same lmao. it’s an Asgard thing 🤪

Surely though Loki has integrated into the palace long enough to grow out of that though right?? Yes correct! MOSTLY HE’S CONTINUED TO DO IT CAUSE HE KNOWS IT ANNOYS HER.

After all this time, even more so than the reverse with Maci and Loki, the way Loki has referred to Maci has COMPLETELY changed entirely over the length of time from first meeting to like, now. With Maci at least she’d always lusted after him & been cooing at him in her head even while they hadn’t gotten along, but Loki really disliked her up until the past two years lmfao so uhh. Maci fully gave up on correcting him like 15 years ago, naturally the more she told him to call her Maci the more he made it a point to call her Macaria instead 💀 However…. In the modern day, there HAS been a marked shift now both in Loki’s thoughts and and out loud ; from Macaria (muttered derogatory, a curse in and of itself) to Macaria (affectionately purred, nestled in her arms) which is a huge enough very noticeable auditory shift for Maci to stop pouting about it.

Now… in very recent months, along those lines, there’s been a new development a couple of times, in which he has called her Maci, to her face or when talking about her. Just a handful of times, and each sporadically, in moments of small vulnerability. Loki using her nickname actual fucking name has now shifted to indicate a small subtle acknowledgment of intimacy … 🥺 For example very specifically, two canon convo quotes: when he’d returned to the palace after this last disappearance, crumpled into Tory’s lap before Tory took him back to Maci, there had been a moment at the beginning of their weepy talk - Loki mumbling, trying to push away again: “Surely Macaria’s furious for my lying and leaving… I can retire to my own bedroom, I know I don’t deserve your kindnesses.” versus.. just a little tiny bit later when Tory finally got him to admit the truth of what he actually wanted right then, which was, “…nothing more than to curl into a ball and disintegrate, preferably here in your lap. Or yours and Maci’s, if she’ll even have me.”

Back in the day, Loki, silvertongue! Blessed with a way with words! kept all of his coarsest insult referrals for her JUST in his mind only as HE always found it more satisfying to insult her more intricately. Even if he’d been muttering to himself what an obnoxious spoiled bimbo she was, how lazily uncouth to just SAY that to her face even if had been what he’d been referring to her as in his head fgkfkgkgkgkg. (Maci meanwhile just fully calling him a douche to his face). TO her face, a litany of complicated clever insults and namecallkng, anything to push her buttons. Oh mygod two fucking TODDLERS these two are so RIDICULOUS. Of course, Loki’s internal monologue has since…. Shifted and I…. well I think he still calls her many of these things in his head LOL but with an undeniable air of affection stapled to it all now. (Somehow after all this time Loki has found himself indeed seduced by the inexplicable charm Maci has always had and though they are complete opposites he’s found himself fond of her absurdity so…)

Long ago, the polar opposite of with Tory - Loki had also found a key in the form of Maci’s Princess title, unlike Tory this is something Maci is INCREDIBLY ATTACHED TO - knowing this attachment over the years has allowed him to use it to his advantage. One, before Taki Fuego cropped up; to piss her off again - sneering about The Princess, and Her Demands in a tone of voice that implies the illegitimate air quotes lmfao. This is also a way Loki has referred to her snidely behind her back; wouldn’t want to aggravate The Princess, Her Highness (see also sarcastic honorifics like, Your Charming Wife). Two, this just is an easy way to manipulate her lmfaoooo, cause when I say Maci is incredibly attached to her title I mean on multiple occasions she’s directed (multiple people. not just Loki or Tory) many partners to refer to her as Princess in bed. Like. in lieu of any of your other standard dominatrix titles. Loki has found it previously easy to sway Maci to do things he wants by purring sweetly at her royalty, especially back when Maci was still lusting after him under the surface and he could taunt and tease her like this!! - ‼️ YOU KNOWWW THOUGH Now that their dynamic has shifted more formally into an actual sexual relationship this has actually become LESS effective as Maci HAS gained actual power over him. tell me everything about monster of the week it sounds interesting i want a paragraph please please please

WONDERFUL monster of the week is a powered by the apocalypse ttrpg. that means it’s based off the monster of the week genre where there’s a different monster or antagonist for every arc (think buffy, supernatural, the x files) and the driving force behind every plot is the apocalypse (which can mean a bunch of different things, but usually translates to the monsters killing a whole bunch of people). the players are various types of monster hunters who have to work together to investigate the monster or antagonist of each arc, find their weakness, and then stop them from killing a whole bunch of people. you only use 2d6, and rolling works on a success, mixed success, or fail system- 1-6 is a fail and you don’t do what you wanted to do, 7-9 is a mixed success and you do what you wanted to do but there’s consequences or you only do some of what you wanted to do, and 10+ is a success and you get to do what you wanted exactly how you wanted to, sometimes with added bonuses. there’s a whole lot more mechanical stuff i could explain but it’s a very simple system especially compared to d&d, and it’s easy to find free pdfs of the rules online which i implore you to do if it interests you because it’s super fun!! it’s a mystery focused game so there’s a lot more roleplay and investigating than combat, which is part of the reason i like it so much lol. also, similar to call of cthulhu, the game master is called the keeper!

NOW what i was talking about in that post. the different types of monster hunters are the classes of this system, called playbooks. they’re what determines the skill sets, moves, and general vibe of each player character. some are professional or experienced investigators, some are magic users with funky powers, and a couple are straight up otherworldly beings or monsters themselves! i’m sticking to the classic playbooks and the playbooks from the tome of mysteries expansion for my picks for the jrwi boys, but there are also a ton of awesome homebrew playbooks out there. you can find a huge masterlist of them by just looking up “motw playbooks”. ANYWAYS here’s the playbooks that i think the jrwi guys would pick:

charlie

the mundane: charlie seems to love a good just some guy character and that’s literally what this playbook is. they have no special powers, no expertise on monster fighting, NOTHING they are just a dude. i think he’d find that extremely entertaining and also figure out a way to make it incredibly angsty

the initiate: basically a cult member and the closest thing you can get to being a warlock in motw, which was in my head because i listened to the suckening rolled earlier today and charlie mentioned how regardless of what setting he’s in in a game he’s always looking for a way to make a pact with something LMAO. the playbook also has a lot of built in dubious morality on the side of the cult, which i think he’d have fun with

the chosen: this one feels obvious, with how often he plays characters who are chosen ones. the chosen playbook also tends to be quite tanky, at least every time i’ve seen it played/played it, which i think he’d like. plus you get to customize your own weapon and i think he’d have fun making a sword that can kill god

grizzly

the gumshoe: a classic detective type. i honestly have no proper reasoning for thinking grizzly would pick this playbook but the vibes are right for some reason. i’m picturing arthur style brooding with a noir detective vibe, a juno steel type character yknow

the divine: in terms of aesthetics, this is rumi if she was a monster of the week character. the playbook comes with a cool divine weapon that does a shit ton of damage but the move set is geared way more towards support, and i think it’d be interesting to see grizzly play a support character

the crooked: bebo plays a lot of criminals what can i say. the crooked playbook has specific backgrounds, and i think he’d have fun with the charlatan or fixer options. this is also one that you can take in a much more cartoony direction if you want which i think suits him

the wronged: the thanatos of motw playbooks babeyyyy. the wronged is all about losing someone you cared about to a specific type of monster and dedicating your life to hunting them down. again, very thanatos, but a lot of bizly characters have the theme of searching for someone they lost or attempting to make up for not being able to save those people, which is one of the most common routes i see played with the wronged

the flake: the timothy rand of motw playbooks! bebo loves his paranoid conspiracy theorists! this one i picked because i think he’d find the move set funny there is a move that rewards you for doing the opposite of what someone advises you to do, and one that’s literally called crazy eyes. very chip very rand i think he’d have fun

condi

okay condi is the hard one because he doesn’t really have a “type” the way the other three do. i honestly think that out of all of them he could take any playbook and make a really interesting and character out of it. my top picks would be the spellslinger (cool magic user) the spooky (little freak), and the searcher (little freak but without supernatural influence), but more for vibes than anything. again i think he could pull off any playbook

💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality?

nyseah: butch trans woman & she calls herself straight but queer and its just because transitioning made her relationship to her sexuality very complicated. she tends to be attracted to men or masculine people but because she's trans she doesn't think that any relationship that she's in will ever be "straight". and for her, its really more about who she jives with versus their gender identity-she wouldn't turn down a good connection basically. she doesn't try to label it but if she Had to that's what she'd say.

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

so technically nyseah and alona came from the same OLD story that i used to have when i was like 12 and technically they haven't "changed much" in terms of the Very Very basic gist of their characters (nyseah is still a psychic nurse and alona is still a secretary of a corporation). i don't really know WHY i thought of these two but a lot of that old story that nondisclosure directly grew from was a clusterfuck and probably inspired by my desire to be quirky and love of anime.

donte is an interesting one, because i had an idea several years ago to make a d&d campaign that was kind of like a noir instead of a fantasy based thing (so like dnd rules but it was a noir). and instead of just me being a dm my idea would be to have a character in the story that the players all get information from and so i made his initials D.M (donte macbride). but bc i don't really have friends to do that kind of thing with and i don't know shit about dm-ing i decided to just kinda keep him on the backburner as an oc, and then ended up using him in a roleplay with one of my friends, wherein i developed his backstory (tldr don's mom was killed by a serial killer when he was 14 and while the police couldn't figure it out, he solved the case and killed the murderer in essentially one day and instead of going to jail, the head of the force at the time was like hey kid you got a talent for solving crime, ya wanna be a detective? and then he's been doing this shit for like 30-ish years pff. its slightly tweaked now to fit with the lore of this wip but the gist is the same), and i really fleshed don out as a character. and then my friend kinda lost interest in the roleplay, so then when i decided that i wanted to revamp alona and nyseah cuz i'm mad attached to them, i thought maybe i could toss him into the mix with the two of them to make a rotating 3-way pov narrative :D

leonine was a character in that roleplay i did with my friend and his backstory of being a celebrity who's friend was murdered and then he goes to don for help is also still the same. tbh they weren't supposed to be a character i got attached to but i liked his energy lol

Some interests and things you like: video games and animanga, mostly. i like (mostly j)rpgs, visual novels/otome games and rogue-lites. i used to bingewatch 30 episode animes in one day when i was younger LMAO. nowadays i mostly just stick to reading manga with my favorite genres being shoujo & josei. i don't stick to the new anime seasons anymore so these are some oldies, but my favorite anime of the past would probably be kaitou saint tail and nana. the newest anime i've probably enjoyed and actually remember is akatsuki no yona.

What non-Fire Emblem games do you play?: uhhh most of my main interest in vidja games is fire emblem, but actively rn i play like mobage and rhythm games on the side. other big interest games for me would probably be the botw series (not neccesarily zelda overall but), persona 5, ffxiv a LOT in the past, hades…. i cannot think of anything else off the top of my head LOL
