Heeey so I'm currently not checking notifs here cause I need to focus on my paper + I'm sick as a dog so my productivity is like zero rn lmao which is not good cause I need to be productive
So if u replied or sent me an ask I'm not ignoring you, I'm just forcing myself to lock in and finish this damn paper
I do come online here to scroll through my favorite cats of tumblr blogs cause like, I need to see cute cats to keep going lmao but that's it
But other than that, until friday, I'm forcing myself not to interact with social media cause I always get lost in the sauce and before I know it it's been 2 hours of procrastination and I can't afford that rn 😭

week one hundred and fifty four
i looked forward to the student pubs this week. i went to both the tuesday one and the wednesday one but he wasn't at either. m couldn't join me to the pub this week either so i went with my classmate a. she joined on wednesday as well along with j. i joined them after i finished work. went by the convenience store to get some cigarettes for a. i've never bought cigarettes before. they didn't even id me!
once i got to the pub, a bought me a beer (and the two others i had that evening as well to even out the cigarettes). i was feeling fairly happy and confident and with a little hyping from my friends, i ended following his insta. he accepted my follow request and followed back a few minutes later. i freak out a little bit and end up dming him just a few moments after us following each other.
"hi !! i stole some cards from u during exploding kittens last week. ur quite cute!"
after having sent that i throw my phone in my bag and take a bathroom break and then went to buy another beer. i come back. i fix my makeup. i try to drag out the time as much as possible but j catches on and just goes "CHECK IF HE'S TEXTED YOU!". so i do.
and he has.
"ah, i knew i recognized you from somewhere."
"you're quite cute yourself ;)"
so we texted actively for the entire time i was at the pub. he's been replying slow these past few days though. he didn't even text me once on friday. it's odd because when he does text me, he's very into it. so i don't know. he does to be fair seem like a guy who probably doesn't have his notifications on and probably doesn't use his phone a whole lot. green flag, i guess? we texted a little on saturday as well. he very tongue-in-cheekily sent a picture of ACTUAL feminist literature and went "oh no, i dropped the feminist literature i'm reading right now (170 cm btw)" and i feel like him being short truly ties it all together. he's so unserious TT
the two red flags he do have are his music taste frankly being quite horrible and him following a centrist political party on instagram. see, usually, that's enough for me to leave. i'm never going to date someone who's not a leftist like me. however, he also follows the socialist party and the green party. also lots of accounts about politics in general so i think he's pretty actively interested and i know many leftists who are really into politics also follow parties they don't support just so they can keep up with them. i'll need to smoothly start talking about politics with him.
kent are having some reunion concerts next year. sooo many people i know are going to try to get tickets. i hope i get some. i'm planning to go with l and l :D
h dmed me on thursday asking if him and his friend could get a discount at my job. i said yes. he followed me again. we talked for a little bit. it's a weird feeling talking to him. like, exes (or technically not because we we're never officially together but you know...) in general i guess because it's like "yo, you've seen my entire naked body and you've seen me cry but now we're just having the most simple small talk ever". it's weirdly beautiful.
l texted me as well on friday. i mean, l and i still talk quite a lot. moreso interact, i guess? we reply to each other's tweets and send each other tiktoks and stuff but this time we talked. for hours. we're still friends in that sense. sometimes i'm embarrassed about how i'm not really over him yet. i am, mostly. enough to date other people and like other people. i think i view our time together with very rose-tinted glasses. like... i mourn memories more than him as a person specifically. i think it'll always be that way. same for h.
i miss lying in l's tiny bed, his hand gently rubbing my exposed stomach while we listened to cds on his cd-player. i miss sleeping with h and waking up to an asleep him pulling me even closer in the middle of the night. i miss coming home to l's and having dinner with his family even though i was so shy and awkward. i miss teasing h by pulling away whenever he tried to kiss me and he'd get so frustrated and it was so adorable.
i recognize that these are all moments i will most likely have with whoever else i end up dating in the future. it's not so much about the person perse. i just miss having a connection like that. i just want affection and someone to show it to.
today i had a boring day at work. it just felt like i had no energy for anything. my boss kept nagging me and even though he's so kind, it still felt like it was so passive aggressive. some of my coworkers really despise him. i don't think he's that bad. he's not bad at all actually but you know... he's still my boss. it's intimidating working with him sometimes.
bff l called me soon after i got home. they caught me mid-piss while ordering ubereats. we talked for like two hours. it's nice catching up with her. now i'm in bed, preparing for a day of pure relaxation tomorrow. it's my first day off in over a month. i've always had work or school. tomorrow i have nothing. i should study but i decided to genuinely give myself one day with no obligations. i'll enjoy sleeping in and playing games all day.

ITS OKAY I ENJOYED READING ALL OF THAT!!!  PLEASE PRIORITIZE ALL YOUR STUDIES THEYRE THE MOST IMPORTANT <3 I HOPE YOU DONT BURN OUT FROM BEING MORE BUSY THAN BEFORE BC I KNOW I DEFINITELY DID WHEN I HAD VOLLEYBALL.. SO TAKE THINGS EASY AND DONT STRESS YOURSELF TOO MUCH PLEASE!!! ILY ILY ILY!! oh okay so us without me pt 2 is probably gonna be BAD BAD cause it will b talking about how he was actually in love w eden since BEFORE he had moved and all that so itll be extra angst talking about before he had moved 😸 basically timeskips briefly showing how he gives you less and less affection as the time he leaves draws near AHAHAH ITS GONNA BE BAD
+ im alright!!! no homework for once in a blue moon so im sitting here relaxing i feel so good rn <3 i have an iced matcha latte and a cake pop I AM LIVE LAUGH LOVING
so i dont have much to yap about at this moment but i just got back from school SOOOO ill yap about that!!
starting off strong i woke up an hour + 15 mins late and had 20 minutes to get ready and eat... i was almost late this morning BUT i have fitness first thing in the morning on my a-days (we work on an a/b schedule!!) and my teacher always comes late to that!! so i had time to dress down and i BOOKED IT to the weight room + made it!! in that class we basically just do weightlifting + my usual partner wasnt there bc she had a golf tournament... so i was with some of my other friends for lifting!! was kinda thriving bc my other partner usually does heavier weights + they did lighter ones SO I WAS REALLY REALLY FAST W MY SETS i was very proud!!
then i went into second period (i have bio) and we were doing a lab where we examined some cells in onions, tomatoes, + the inside of our cheeks (ew) but basically we had to group up and im not rly fond of one of the girls that r in my group cause she doesn't talk much she just squeezes in to look through the microscope so it annoys me 😞 ANYWAY THE LAB WAS LIGHT WORK GOT IT DONE IN 30 MINS and then i had like an hour of free time after that so i asked for a hall pass and i roamed the halls for a bit 😸 after that i have to go to advisory + i was just helping people w math hw and doing some of the nyt games to kill my boredom (oh and drivers ed stuff!!)
at lunch i was just sitting with some of my friends and playing imessage games with them 😭 then we went into the gym and played volleyball for a bit!!
after lunch i had geo and i was taking notes like a madman i fear... dk if ive said this before but like ohhh man everyone makes a point of telling me how small my hand writing is its so annoying 😭 i heard that three times during class today and i was literally done LIKE STOP LEAVE ME ALONE PLEASE ‼️
theeeen i had my speech + debate CLASS not to be confused with my club!! i already finished my oratory so i just played games the entire period 😻 lots of fun would recommend!!! i just hate the teacher cause he's always telling me to go back to my seat WHEN IM HELPING HIS STUDENTS CATCH UP ON WORK like ok! sorry for trying to help you fix the mistakes you made when teaching them how to make their speeches! goodness! my bad! anyway hes my opp 😒
AND THATS MY DAY!! anyway take care stay safe i love you!!! MWAHH <3

@hereforthefluff: ayo??? tell us more!! (if u wanna, ofc)
ask and you shall receive - may i present you an excerpt of our text conversation
gotta give a little context before we begin: i somehow bruised my hip and i was pointing out how it still hurts and i started mentioning having 'comfort bones' (bc i trace my skin to self soothe) and they got intrigued
it's not even the number one comfort bone
elaborate please
i think ribs is number one for comfort bone(s) then hips then knees
how how do you know what makes them comfort
(i talked about why i even feel the need to self soothe to begin with and having anxiety and being touch starved) their reply: just me going straight for the ribs next time (aka flustering af) also them like 5 minutes later: watch out for your ribs and knees next time then
(should probably clarify that they did not intend to tickle me at this point bc i only mentioned having a ticklish neck exactly once to them, they were more referring to comforting me with touches and playful punches, but i was seriously flustered at this point)
(me): if you just see me legging it or curling into a ball, don't worry it's not you
aw like a baby no don't worry i'm a respectable citizen won't go for the secret spots unannounced (their fucking choice of words here)
good bc you might just get an elbow to the face
i won't no worries
i don't know if i trust you you're too tuned into giggles, it might be my downfall (they are very much aware of people's laughs and giggles and find them endearing)
what downfall despite popular belief i am able to keep my hands to myself, especially if it's weak spots (was dying in this exact moment)
my ticklish downfall
ohhhhhhh ohhhh ohhh you're ticklish yeah no worries about that am not a fan of tickling people (i know what you're thinking but just keep going)
i mean i don't mind it it's nice or like it can be nice with the right person
i think ur the first person to ever say that
in the world?
yes
i doubt that
whole universe
i know i'm not
hm good to know then i do enjoy the giggles i'm not ticklish myself so i can't offer revenge for you
see? tickles = free giggles
that's you giving me too much power
i trust you
(briefly talked about how they are not ticklish and that i kinda figured bc my fingers have been in their armpit without them flinching so)
(them): why would you tell me that's silly i'm gonna abuse that knowledge
sure you will you missed the bit where i said 'i don't mind it, it's nice'?
hm didn't connect the dots i think
it's fair, i don't blame you, it's not the obvious dots to connect
(and here is where we struck actual gold, people)
do you just wanna get tickled is this just a big setup to get me to tickle you
what is i said it was, huh? what then?
then i'll get those free giggles asap your wish is my command
(me send of gif of eddie munson just falling)
aw honey you just gotta ask i do not get subtle hints i'm dumb as shit
kinda a weird request to make, also bc i know not every is comfortable with it so like i'd rather not risk it and take what i can get
i don't think it's weird, i'm getting giggles out of it
yes i can tell i might eat my own words with this one
oh you'll be just fine, i'll stop when you say stop eventually (dead once more) am good goose here for your entertainment only
they are honestly the sweetest, nicest person and the fact that they took it so calmly just melts my heart i'm absolutely terrified of seeing them again on saturday also bc i'll be spending the night and will absolutely need to keep my chill
so i might have mentioned to my romantic interest that i think tickles are nice (in my about to sleep, non-filtered haze) and it kinda went amazing??

🥺 that mike lange story. But also those tags #sid loooves christmas #he loves giving presents #looks good in red #piles on the pounds fast #post hockey career as santa 😂😂👌🏽👌🏽
he loves his mementos and presents and is COMMITTED to them. scrapbooking. matching jackets. little pills with hidden motivational messages~*~ his love language is gifts and neck smooches and stalking geno. relevant right now are some anecdotes i sent a friend earlier this year for dorky sid gifts fic fodder:
1. Crosby's constant thoughtfulness would be impressive from anyone, much less someone of his stature.
"Sid always texts me happy birthday, he's always asking me like, how's Russia?" Evgeni Malkin said. "We talk and message all summer. He asks me how my skates are. He knows, like, everything. He follows my Instagram, I think (laughs)."
In addition to having a handle on those little details, Crosby is constantly providing those around him with memories and mementos. If the team is on the road and goes, say, sightseeing or to a sporting event and takes a group photo, Crosby will later send a framed copy to everyone.
When Ron Hextall and Brian Burke watched their first Penguins game in person, Crosby is the one who approached head equipment manager Dana Heinze and asked for two used game pucks to give to the new GM and president of hockey ops.
After the Penguins won in 2009, Crosby had jackets made for the three players on the team who had scored a Cup-clinching goal in Game 7: Talbot (Pittsburgh), Ruslan Fedotenko (Tampa Bay) and Mike Rupp (New Jersey).
"They were blue jackets with gold buttons, and each one had a patch on it that said 'GWG Game 7,'" Talbot said. "At one of our first team meals the next season, he presented us with the jackets and did a big ceremony with the music and stuff. We had a private room in the restaurant. I still have the jacket."
-The Consummate Teammate, Captain and Ambassador, Feb 2021
2. Merz: My first interaction with Sid was when we were on the bench, guys were talking about a teammate, and the first thing this 15-year-old says is, “Hey, guys. Let’s keep everything positive. Don’t talk about your teammates that way.”
Salcido: When we were getting ready for nationals, he found these little pills that you could put a hidden message inside. They unscrewed, and inside was a tiny scroll. He gave one to every teammate. … He had everyone fill one out. He didn’t tell anyone what to write, but he made it known that we all knew what the goal was: winning nationals. So we wrote on our scrolls, rolled them up and put them in the pill thing. We kept them with us everywhere we went.
-‘Is this real?’: Stories of Sidney Crosby’s year at a Minnesota prep school, May 2020
3. On “Butterfly Boy” Jonathan Pitre:
Though the Senators are his team, Sidney Crosby has always been Jonny’s favourite player. After the TSN documentary airs, Tina gets a call from the Penguins. Sid needs Jonny’s measurements. He wants to have a suit made for him by his personal tailor, Domenico Vacca.
“It’s the kindest, sweetest gesture,” Tina says. “Sid heard that Jonny went to a lot of games, so he wants him to look like he’s one of the guys.”
“I want him to feel like a pro,” Crosby says. “Here’s a guy who is going through something so painful, and his first thought is always, ‘How can I help others?’ When I was young, I’d watch on TV the players coming to the rink in their suits. That was a cool part of being an NHL player. I want him to feel that, to make it as real as possible for him.”
Tina tries to discreetly measure Jonny while she’s changing his dressings. But he’s way too smart for that.
“Um, Mom, why are you measuring me? Am I going for surgery again?” he asks.
“No, no!” Tina replies, trying to reassure him and come up with a good lie, all in the same breath. “The doctor needs them just to make sure they have proper dressings next time you are in.”
A few weeks later, the sharp navy blue suit shows up at their front door, along with a couple of ties, an autographed stick and a handwritten letter from Sid.
“His eyes just light up,” Tina says. “Jonny always liked to be well-dressed, and he just loves having his own suit. It fits perfectly. He looks so good in it.”
-Beauties by James Duthie (2020)
4. Pascal Dupuis inspired his Pittsburgh Penguins teammates on their run to the Stanley Cup, and Sidney Crosby found a special way of driving that message home.
Dupuis retired in December with lingering health concerns because of blood clots. Despite his NHL playing days coming to an end, the veteran forward remained an integral part of the Penguins and was in uniform to hoist the Cup after Pittsburgh's six-game win against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Final.
On Sunday, Dupuis brought the Cup home one last time as a player to share a special day with his family, friends and hometown fans.
"Yes, it does feel bittersweet a little bit," Dupuis said. "You get the Cup, you want to celebrate. But at the same time I got a gift by the mail [Saturday]. Basically, it's a book of all the pictures of all the good stuff we went through. It came from Nova Scotia, so you guys can figure out who it came from (Crosby), but he couldn't give it to me during the season, he saw me skating a little bit.
"And he sent it [Saturday], before my day with the Cup, so he knew what he was doing to get me right here," Dupuis said, putting his fist over his heart.
-Pascal Dupuis shares Stanley Cup with family, friends, Aug 2016
5. In 2011, Crosby was out of the lineup with a concussion, and the Penguins made their annual visit to Children’s Hospital.
Crosby got along so well with one boy there and was so touched that he later asked Bullano to go back... just the two of them, no cameras, no attention.
When Bullano and Crosby met for the follow-up visit, Crosby appeared clutching a pair of Toys “R” Us bags, filled with a Transformer toy the two had discussed.
“He literally bought every type of this toy they make,” Bullano said. “[Crosby] had never seen it before and thought it was so cool.
“There are no pictures of this. There’s no video. He was laying in the bed with the kid. They were just playing. We were there for over two hours. I got to know the mom really well because we were just sitting there.
“The kid had no idea. Didn’t expect it. They had no idea he was coming. We got there and he said, ‘Hey buddy. hope you don’t mind that I came back.’ The kid couldn’t believe it.
“[Crosby’s] crazy cool about stuff like that.”
What’s crazy is trying to recount the many times stuff like this has happened with Crosby:
• The Little Penguins Learn to Play program has been around for nine seasons, outfitting now 1,200 kids with free head-to-toe hockey equipment. Not only does Crosby serve as the face of the program — which the NHL has now adopted — but he helps fund it, too.
“There’s an awareness of what a person in his position can bring,” Penguins vice president of communications Tom McMillan said. “I think he activates that as much as anybody I’ve seen during his playing career.”
• After a recent practice, Crosby noticed a local family in the Penguins dressing room, approached them, introduced himself, learned their story and wound up giving them a signed stick.
Nobody asked Crosby to do that, and he wanted zero credit when discussing it a couple days later.
“For people who have the opportunity to come in here, people dealing with certain things, if you can brighten their day a bit or spend some time with them, it’s something that’s special for all of us,” Crosby said.
• A few years ago, through a team charity event, Crosby befriended a 4-year-old Amish boy with cancer. Crosby remarked to Bullano how much he loved talking to the boy because of how engaging the boy was and how he wasn’t consumed with technology. Crosby even tried to visit the boy but learned he had passed away.
• He learns the first and last names of the kids who attend his hockey school in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.
“Two kids came from Japan its first year,” Bullano recalled. “He was so blown away by that. He couldn’t wait to meet them.”
• Earlier this season, the Penguins welcomed Grant Chupinka, 24-year-old cancer patient, into the dressing room. Crosby chatted up Grant and his parents, Steve and Kim.
He spent his usual time — about two or three times the requirement. Gave the tour. Then found out the Chupinkas didn’t have tickets for that night’s game and decided he would pay for them to go.
“I’m sure he could just give them an autographed puck or something, but he takes his time to go out and see them and talk to them and get to know them,” Brian Dumoulin said. “It speaks volumes for him and who he is as a person.”
Spend any length of time with Crosby during his visits with those less fortunate, and a few things become obvious.
One, Crosby is really good at these. Smooth but not in a slimy way. Sweet. You know how when you’re around someone talking and they go out of their way to make eye contact with everyone around? That’s Crosby.
He’s also humble, always introducing himself like those he’s meeting don’t already know. Holding a hand is no issue. And Crosby is the rare 20-something pro athlete without kids who acts every bit like he does.
“It is not an easy situation to talk to someone with terminal cancer,” McMillan said. “A lot of people couldn’t do that. He has an amazing ability to do that and make that person feel good.”
Crosby has welcomed several Make-a-Wish kids and tries, if at all possible, to schedule such events for practice days — to maximize the time he’s able to spend.
He’s developed a special friendship with Patrick McIlvain, a soldier who nearly died when he took a bullet to the head in Afghanistan. McIlvain actually does physical therapy with one of Crosby’s sticks.
A former club hockey player at Cal U, McIlvain comes by every year, and the Penguins don’t even bother to tell Crosby. Either he already knows or immediately stops what he’s doing to come say hello.
“He’s not doing it to leave a legacy,” said Terry Kalna, Penguins vice president of sales and broadcasting. “His numbers leave the legacy. He’s just a down-to-Earth, good guy.”
Before a visit, Crosby has Bullano email him what is essentially a scouting report on who he’s going to meet. He likes to learn about them, their situation and what they’ve been through. As much information as he can ingest. Crosby never just swoops in, shake a hand and leave.
“As much as anyone has ever seen, he accepts the responsibilities of being not just a professional athlete but a star professional athlete,” McMillan said. “He views it as part of the job. Like coming to the morning skate. That’s just what you do.”
Put another way, “he owns those moments,” says Kalna.
Said Bullano, “He’s just a good human being.”
-When it comes to giving, Sidney Crosby does as much as he can, Feb 2017
6. When Crosby received a generous signing bonus on his Reebok deal, he wanted to share it with everyone.
“He gave everyone on the bus gifts,”  says Oceanic radio commentator Michel Germain. “Him sharing his bonus with all the people he’d been travelling with for two years, that impresses me greatly. I think the most important thing about Sidney Crosby is his personality and the kind of human being he is. What he exuded. The inner richness he’d already developed.”
-Superstitious and generous, Dec 2006
7. also this simply because it makes me ;w;
Even in defeat — no, especially in defeat — Sidney Crosby proved why he wears the "C" for the Penguins.
After the game, with his heart sinking and his season over, the Penguins’ captain bent over, sank to the ice to pick up the puck, took it to linesman Tony Sericolo and then skated to his team’s handshake line.
I immediately thought of a View from Ice Level I’d written on Crosby making sure a retiring official was sent away from PPG Paints Arena properly. I knew picking up the puck wasn’t for the same reason that was, but I also knew, in some way, it was connected to Crosby’s awareness and respect of the game.
“It was for the Islanders,” Crosby told me after the game, his eyes swollen from a first round exit – by way of a sweep to make it worse. He told me how the winning team always wanted the puck, and it was his way of providing it for the Islanders.
Crosby looked me right in the eye as he told me this, just as he did with every other member of the media to come to him after the loss.
I could tell from those swollen eyes and the way he sat at his stall, by himself with his hands folded as he stared blankly, that Sidney Crosby is much more used to being on the receiving end of a puck when a series ends than he is at retrieving it for the winning team.
That scene. His swollen eyes. Staying in the locker room until most had left – talking to anyone who needed him. Most of all, though, picking up the puck that prompted my question in the first place and making sure the right people got their piece of their own history.
It all adds up to one thing: In victory and in defeat, Crosby respects the game above all else – just as he’s always done.
-Even in defeat, Crosby shines, April 2019

(some time in the 1960s~)
-
Everybody thought they were friends. The class-skipping, the after-school hangouts, the dinners at Anka’s Diner—everybody thought they were friends. And truly, they were.
But is that really all they were?
-
“So…” Jaehyun asks as they walk down the halls of Neo High, “Anyone approach for Valentine’s yet? I bet you’ve gotten more than three people to ask you out by now.”
Y/N chuckles, lightly shoving Jaehyun as the latter chuckles as well. “Man, stop it. No one asked me out. And who are you to say that? Star athlete, 6 pack abs, Jaehyun of the Neos, I'd say… 6 girls?”
“7, actually.” They both giggle as Jaehyun continues, “But… I shot all of them down.”
They both near Y/N’s locker, Jaehyun leaning on the ones beside as the former opens his and gets some books out. “Why? 7 girls… neat.”
“I have my eyes on someone else.” Jaehyun says, looking up, blushing at the ceiling, glad that Y/N’s locker door is obstructing the latter’s view of his face.
“Lucky girl.” Y/N says, nonchalantly as he closes the door to his locker. “She’ll say yes, don’t worry.”
“Sure hope they do. So… I'm guessing you're still on the make? You know, looking for a date?” Jaehyun says curiously, unknowingly hoping for a certain answer.
“I told you no one asked me out. And honestly, I’m fine with that. It's a Saturday on the 14th—maybe I should just stay home and listen to the radio.”
“Aww. That's fine little man.” Jaehyun says as they begin their trek towards their classes. “Maybe you could go out with me…” His voice softens, not wanting to alert those around them, “If you can't find anyone.”
Y/N chortles, smacking Jaehyun on the shoulder once again, “Kinda gay ain't it?”
“Nothing wrong with it.”
“You think the people around us’ll say the same?”
Jaehyun hums in acknowledgement as he fixes his tie, replying, “Okay then. Well, see ya’ later alligator.”
Y/N smiles as he sends the boy a wink, entering his classroom as the latter walks to his.
-
They both knew it. It was mutual knowledge. But unspoken. It was unspoken knowledge. The sly touches, the flirting—they both knew it.
But neither have made a real move yet.
-
“If you had one thing you could do right now, without being interrupted—without any distractions,” Jaehyun says, lying down on Y/N’s bed, throwing a baseball up in the air as he asks, “what would it be?”
“Hm.” Y/N ponders, pausing the movement of his pencil over the créme sheet of paper, placing it down. “Maybe…” he looks out the window, observing the orange to black ombré, “Moongazing. I just love the moon. The stars too.”
“You always talk about the moon.” Jaehyun stops throwing the white ball knitted with red fabric, catching it on one hand as he sits up. “What’s so bewitching about it anyway?”
“I don’t know.” Y/N continues writing, the graphite marking the pages as it produces the only sound in the room apart from their voices. “It’s… calming. Not to mention, the twinkling stars look pretty too.”
“Twinkle twinkle little star…” Jaehyun sings softly as Y/N chuckles, throwing a pillow at the former.
“If you don’t believe me—”
“I do. I’ll take you for your word.” Jaehyun replies almost instantly. “I always do.”
“Neat. Now flake off. The sun is setting. You live three streets away, and I don't want you walking in the dark alone.” Y/N gets up from his seat at the window, turning to face Jaehyun.
“Walk me home then.” Jaehyun replies, a smirk on his face.
“That would mean I would be the one walking home alone in the dark, you dork.”
“Alright, alright.” Jaehyun replies, getting up from Y/N’s bed to give him a long, warm hug. Their bodies separate as Jaehyun blows Y/N a kiss, walking out the bedroom door, getting a snort in return.
The marmalade sun hides itself on the horizon as Y/N looks out the window, waving to Jaehyun as the latter walks out their front yard, beginning his journey home.
Oh God, was he falling.
-
It was getting increasingly difficult to resist. The sneaky flirts, the clever comebacks—it was getting increasingly difficult to resist.
And maybe he should stop doing so.
-
“Baby~” Jaehyun sneaks up on Y/N, whispering the words as the latter stiffens in surprise before smacking him lightly in the face.
“Dude. You gotta stop saying shit like that.” The boy sitting on his assigned chair replies, looking up at Jaehyun who is now seated on his desk. “Why are you here anyways? Don’t you have class soon?”
“You do.” Jaehyun replies, pointing at Y/N before pointing at himself, “I don’t. My first subject isn’t ‘till 9.”
“Hm.” Y/N mumbles as he looks back down on the sheet of paper with two unanswered math problems waiting to be solved. “Well, I forgot to complete this last night because I was too pre-occupied with English, and there’s five minutes left ‘till my class starts so I really gotta finish this.”
“Maybe you don’t.” Jaehyun replies, a plan already devising itself in his mind. “Do you maybe wanna… go to the park?”
Y/N looks up, a smirk forming on his face as he observes the same smirk on Jaehyun’s. They hold a stare for about five seconds before Y/N shoves the gray sheet of paper into his backpack, not caring if it was getting crumpled. In laughing fits, both boys run out the hall and eventually out the school too. Slowing down from their marathon-like sprint, they don't notice that they have their fingers interlocked. Y/N realizing this, he quickly untangles them as he straightens his uniform, Jaehyun unconsciously bummed out.
“Well,” Y/N says, looking up at Jaehyun who was already staring at him, “lead the way, my good sir.”
Jaehyun bows as he jokes, “Why of course, Milady. I’ll have you back in school by 9, just in time for your second subject.”
Both giggle as they skip to the grassy park, unknowingly spending the whole day out of school.
-
Maybe it was something in the air. Something they inhaled, passing their airways as it made its way to their heart, freeing them from their icy restraints. Maybe it was something in the air—or maybe something in the grass. But it made them both come out of their shells.
What took that damned O₂ so long to enter their lungs?
-
“Oh shit.” Y/N realizes halfway through fawning about a low-graphic, black and white but new cartoon that had just come out. He looks down on his right wrist as he scoffs. “You said you’d get me back in school by 9.” He says, annoyed, looking up at Jaehyun, “It’s 9:05”.
Jaehyun chuckles innocently, planting his palm on the back of your shoulder. “Well… if people see us here in the park when we’re supposed to be in class… we’ll get detention for skipping.” He says, matter-of-factly.
“Yeah, totally didn't know that, Jae.” Y/N says, facetiously.
“Well… we could go to the movies? Or the fair…” Jaehyun brings his lips closer to Y/N ears as he whispers convincingly, “Or both.”
The flustered pulls away, hands pushing Jaehyun towards the opposite direction. “Fine. But I didn't bring my wallet today.”
“What do you want me to do about that?” Jaehyun replies, a look of sarcasm cascading his face. Y/N rolls his eyes before staring straight into Jaehyun’s, cracking his knuckles. Before he could get a word out, Jaehyun already surrenders. “Okay, okay! Calm down dude.” He chuckles. “But on one condition.”
“I’m listening.” Y/N replies, crossing his legs.
“Be my Valentine. For tomorrow.”
“W-”
“Dude, you don't have a valentine, I don't have a valentine—”
“Because you turned them all down!”
“Okay fair enough.” Jaehyun admits, “But it's not like I can ask them out again, it would be too humiliating for big ole’ Jae, wouldn't it?” He pouts, sticking his bottom lip out as he stares into Y/N’s eyes.
Y/N contemplates, sighing after a minute as he replies, “Fine.”
Jaehyun jumps in glee as he cheers, acting like a kid whose parents agreed to buy them ice cream.
“Just take me to the movies already.” Y/N sighs yet again, scratching his head as the taller calms down, bowing facetiously.
“Of course, Milady.”
“Shut up.”
“Okay.”
-
The popcorn was exceptional. Splendid indeed. The pop of flavor just made everything fall into place. The popcorn was exceptional—maybe that’s why Jaehyun held the bag so cautiously.
And soon enough, that won’t be the only thing he’ll be holding—and eating, too.
-
“Mmmh.” Jaehyun moans as he sips his pop, taking a handful of popcorn right after.
“Dude, stop! We haven't even gotten in the theater yet and you're already devouring everything.” Y/N whines, upset. “By the time the movie starts, we’ll have nothing!”
“Chill,” Jaehyun replies, taking one last sip from his straw before he smiles at Y/N, “we can just buy another one.”
“You’re just wasting money.” Y/N groans, not wanting Jaehyun to spend any more.
“Okay, okay.” He replies, sealing his popcorn as they wait to be let in the theater.
-
Was it the popcorn in the theater? Something that gave Jaehyun the courage. Because Jaehyun had not been this bold 6 months ago. Was it the popcorn in the theater—or was it the soda pop?
It didn't matter. What he was going to do with his newly-found virtue did.
-
In the darkness, the mono-colored movie played as the bag of popcorn was set in between the boys.
“Remind me why we decided to watch a romance movie again?” Y/N brings his lips closer to Jaehyun’s ears as he whispers, not wanting to disturb the rest.
“People say it’s a good movie.”
“They both die.”
Jaehyun peels his eyes away from the screen to stare at Y/N, a look of disbelief washing over his face. “You just spoiled the movie for me.”
“Everybody knows the story of Romeo and Juliet.” Y/N replies, rolling his eyes.
“Well, I don’t.” Jaehyun whispers, looking back at the projected movie, correcting himself, “Didn’t. I guess I do now.”
“I still can’t believe you didn’t know though.” Y/N remarks, grabbing popcorn from their shared bucket, staring at the movie playing.
“Now I do, and…” Jaehyun looks at Y/N once again, his cheeks burning as he braves and says, “I guess it’s a good thing we’ll both be Romeos tomorrow.”
Y/N lightly chuckles, trying to ignore what Jaehyun had just said, keeping his eyes glued to the movie.
Unsatisfied with Y/N’s reaction, Jaehyun slips his fingers past the bucket of popcorn and onto Y/N’s, resting on the armrest. With the sudden weight and warmth on his hand, Y/N tenses—but doesn’t look at Jaehyun. Rather, he watches the movie intently, silently hoping he doesn’t give in.
Jaehyun leans closer to Y/N, lips right next to his ears as he whispers, “I’m cold.”
And he gives in.
Their fingers interlock in the dark of the theater, the sounds of dialogue from the movie filling the enclosed space up. No one can see them—it’ll be alright.
-
Jaehyun always found rings cute. A cheese ring, a metal ring, the ring around Saturn. Jaehyun always found rings cute,
But his greatest wish was to put a diamond one around Y/N’s finger.
-
“This is a scam.” Y/N retorts, hands crossed. He stares at Jaehyun as they stand in line for a hoop game on the board walk’s carnival, a few minutes after their exit from the theater.
“There’s no harm in trying.” Jaehyun replies, his eyes on the prize—a teddy bear the size of a toddler.
“That’s like saying ‘There’s no harm in getting scammed’, Jae.”
“Well,” Jaehyun cheekily replies, smirking as he blurts, “there’s no harm in getting scammed for you.”
Y/N looks at Jaehyun in disbelief as the flirt grabs 3 round hoops, preparing to land them on the moving bottles. Much like Y/N’s prediction, the first hoop falls too early and too far from the bottles, the second slides off after nearing and the third one flies too far and hits the stall owner. Jaehyun cringes as the owner painfully smirks, the feeling of victory of scamming another customer engulfing the latter’s mind, accompanied by the feeling of pain from the metal object recently hurled at his stomach.
“At least we have consolation candy?” Jaehyun’s face agonizes, embarrassment taking over.
“At least we have consolation candy.” Y/N repeats, grabbing a handful as he smiles at the owner and makes a 180°, leaving the booth. Jaehyun follows behind, hands in his pocket as he looks around the fair.
“Oooh,” Jaehyun interests, “What about that one?” He says, pointing at the game with a man in his 20’s trapped inside a container with water below, fate depending on his partner’s aim at the target.
“How about no?” Y/N replies, chuckling shortly after, “If you like water so much…
how do you feel about the beach?”
-
Tonight was the night. It wasn’t the 14th—it was the day before. But Jaehyun was more than confident enough to make a move. Tonight was the night—and nothing could go wrong.
Or so he hopes.
-
The tangerine sun meets the navy water once again, its center resting at the edge of the coast. Both boys walk down the beach, hands in pockets as they keep their feelings in.
“Pretty isn’t it?” Jaehyun perks up as he stares at Y/N breaking the silence. “The sun setting.” Jaehyun nods as Y/N continues. “It’s a shame that it’s disappearing soon. Give it a few minutes more and there won’t be a trace of orange on the sky.”
“It’s just how it is.” Jaehyun replies.
“Exactly.” Y/N gleams, the wind blowing on his shirt. “As much as I love seeing the sun, and as much as I hate seeing it go, I see it as a good thing too.”
“What do you mean?” Jaehyun replies, sparkles in his eyes as he stares at Y/N, only the calm waters and the sun’s secant behind him.
“I see it as, ‘if you love something, you have to let something else go’, or something of the sort.” Y/N chuckles, his hands still in his pockets, “I love the sun so much, but if it means seeing the night sky again, I’d give it up every single day, every single time, every single chance I get.”
“You must love the moon and stars so much, huh.” Jaehyun awes as his skin glows under the dying sun’s radiating tint.
Y/N nods as both boys settle down on a spot by the ocean, watching the sun submerge, darker and bluer hues taking over the early evening sky. They sit there for a few minutes, staring at the ocean waves, thinking about their current situation. As they contemplate, the sky has completely changed, from warm hues into cooler and darker ones, the moon showing itself first.
“There you go.” Jaehyun chuckles, laying his back on the sand as he points up, “Your favorite.”
Y/N follows the direction Jaehyun’s finger is pointing at as he looks up at the indigo atmosphere, a faint, glowing crescent standing out. He beams as he appreciates the moon’s presence, basking in it. “Thank you for today, Jae.”
“You’re welcome. Don’t forget about tomorrow okay?”
Y/N nods as he gets up, dusting his shorts off from the sand. The other gets up as well, doing the same as Y/N watches.
Just as the latter is about to leave, Jaehyun speaks up. “Wait!” Y/N faces him once again, a sparkle on his eyes as he wonders why he was called back. “I— I have something to say.” Jaehyun shivers, clenching his fists as he breathes in and out, preparing himself for his own confession. “For the longest time I’ve— I’ve looked up to you and I just wanna say,” Y/N raises his eyebrows, the sound of waves crashing onto the beach filling his ears, “I like you.”
‘I like you’. The words ring in Y/N ears, the syllables painting his eardrums with love. It seems great at first but then he remembers—the predjudice, the shame, the disgrace, the dishonor—and doubles back. “Y-you can’t.”
“Yes, I can.” Jaehyun says as he inches closer to Y/N, his hand grazing the latter’s cheek as he pulls closer. Their lips touch under the moonlight, the stars and benthics as their witness. The taste of strawberry fills Y/N’s taste buds, the savory flavor of intimacy filling his mouth. With the doting feeling of passion engulfing Y/N’s body, he kisses back. They move in sync for a few seconds until Jaehyun pulls away, the feeling of endearment filling his mind as he registers that he had just kissed Y/N—the one he's been pining for for the past few years. Of course, that feeling isn't long-lasting as he notices Y/N take a step back, fear in the latter’s eyes.
“What’s wrong?” Jaehyun questions, his words coming out as a mere whisper. Y/N doesn't reply as he takes more steps back, mortified. Jaehyun reaches his hand out—and that’s all it takes to send Y/N running.
He sprints the opposite direction, ignoring Jaehyun’s shouts behind him. Adrenaline rushes through his veins as his shoes hit the sand continuously, fear and disappointment fueling his run.
Jaehyun is left alone, under the moonlit beach, and instead of hearing his beloved’s voice, only the sound of waves fill his ears, sending him into full regret.
-
Was it like water? Sometimes everything would be blithe—calm, tranquil water, their insouciant selves enjoying the world. But sometimes it would be erratic too—the unpredictable waves engulfing them and their relationship. Was it like water—their love for one another?
Jaehyun just hopes it wouldn’t dry up.
-
“Thought I’d find you up here.” Jaehyun mutters as he closes the rooftop door, making a sound as it closes again. It’s been a few hours since the beach incident, the moon already glowing brighter. “Look, I’m sorry for kiss–”
“Don’t be.” Y/N replies, keeping his voice as stern as possible, despite already being on the verge of tears. “It was great, I just,” Y/N pauses, takes in the night sky’s view for the last time before he breaks down, and plants his eyes on Jaehyun, still by the rooftop door. “Don’t you think this is wrong?”
“What is?” Jaehyun replies, already knowing the answer he would receive.
“This.” Y/N replies, whining dejectedly as he gets up from his sitting position, facing Jaehyun. “This is. We’re both guys, we shouldn't be flirting, let alone kissing!”
“Why does it matter?” Jaehyun questions, stepping forward as he tries his best to keep his tears in.
“It just does Jaehyun!” Y/N yells back, the exact opposite of Jaehyun’s hushed tone, his voice echoing out into the night sky. “It just does.” He repeats, tears pooling on the corner of his eyes.
“If it does, then…” Jaehyun steps back, the feeling of woe engulfing him, “you never liked me the same way I like you.”
“No!” Y/N replies almost immediately, a tear already slipping out, painting his right cheek, “I, I like you Jae, I like you so fucking much. Every single moment we’ve had, every single moment we’ve shared—I relish every bit of it. I can’t stop liking you—I’ll never stop liking you. But,” Y/N pauses, “I’m scared.”
Jaehyun steps closer to Y/N, pulling him into his embrace as the latter cries out onto his shoulder, tears staining his t-shirt, “Don’t be.”
“But I am.” Y/N replies, sniffing as he tightens his grip on Jaehyun’s body. “I’m scared of everything—What if people talk bad about us, behind our backs? What if our parents kick us out? What if we get expelled? What if—”
“Shh.” Jaehyun shushes, his hand rubbing Y/N’s back slowly, the strokes calming the latter down. “Stop thinking about the ‘what ifs’, just focus on me.”
“I’m sorry, I know I overthink a lot.” Y/N mumbles, pulling away from their embrace as he looks Jaehyun in the eyes, the moonlight shining on them. “I’m just… scared of the darkness that awaits, you know?”
“I get you.” Jaehyun replies as he stares at Y/N, melancholic. “And I’ll do whatever it takes, okay? I’ll be your candle, your shining light, anything that’ll get you through the darkness.”
“Thanks.” Y/N chuckles, looking down, noticing the sand still on Jaehyun’s shoes. “But that still doesn’t change what people would think about…” He points to Jaehyun, then at himself, repeatedly, “this.”
Jaehyun hums as he guides Y/N to the ledge of the rooftop, sitting both him and himself down as they stare out onto the deserted school field below. “Remember what you said about the sun, just a few hours ago when we were down at the beach?”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“I’d give it all up. All of it. My status, my family, my friends—all of it…” Jaehyun says, peeling his eyes off the dark field below them and locking them with Y/N’s, passion fueling his words, “if it meant I could be with you. Because as much as I love them, if it means seeing you in my arms, I’d give them all up every single day, every single time, every single chance I get.”
Y/N forces a sob in, trying his best not to break down. “But why?” He replies, feeling tears pool again.
“Because I’m serious with you, dude.” Jaehyun replies as Y/N chuckles, the tears still in his eyes. “I’ve been wanting to tell you all this for a while now.”
Y/N snickers louder, he and his best friend’s intimacy overwhelming him. He takes in Jaehyun’s form, the moon casting its light down on him, and makes a desicion. “Fine.”
“Fine what?”
“Fine, you can be my candle. Fine, you can be my shining light. Fine…” Y/N pauses, trying to find the right words, “Fine, I’ll give this—us—a chance.”
Jaehyun quickly switches moods from his dejected one to a grin from ear to ear, painting over his gloomy look. “Does that mean you’re still my valentine for tomorrow...” Jaehyun pauses, looks at his watch then looks back into Y/N’s eyes, noticing all the sorrow fading, “I mean later?”
“Yes, dude.”
“We have to stop calling each other that now, babe.”
“Ew. Too cheesy don’t you think?”
“Not at all. I think it suits you.”
Both men chuckle as they stare out into the landscape, a completely new bond between them formed.
“Since it’s Valentine’s Day already,” Jaehyun mumbles as he looks toward Y/N’s direction, “do you mind giving me a kiss?” Y/N stops his peaceful gaze on the stars as he locks eyes with Jaehyun, noticing the sparkles in his eyes. “No running away this time though.”
Y/N chuckles before he places his hand on Jaehyun’s cheek, moving closer and closer, feeling their taboo love get stronger and stronger. Their lips touch as he realizes that Jaehyun’s lips taste more like peaches than strawberries. With this thought in mind, he smiles into their kiss, the feeling of fear leaving his body as he feels his best friend’s—now boyfriend’s—lips on his.
Instead of the briny ocean water witnessing their love wither merely 6 hours earlier, it was now the magnificent moon and the stunning stars bearing witness to their young, requited love bloom.
-
Maybe it was the stigma. The thing that kept them apart for so long. Maybe it was the stigma—or maybe they were both just pussies.
Good thing they grew some balls.
-
“I think I get why you like the moon and stars so much.” Jaehyun blurts as the two lay on the beach once again, staring up at the glittered night sky, the valentine air floating out and about.
“And why’s that?” Y/N says as he looks up at Jaehyun, curiosity devouring him.
“It reminds me of a phrase in Latin.” He replies, smiling as the bijou stars twinkled at them, as if they were smiling. “It means light in darkness.” Y/N nods. “The moon, the stars—they paint the plain black sky and turn it into something stunning. I can’t look away from it now. Whenever I look up at night, I’ll always remember you.”
“Good for you.” Y/N chuckles, shifting his gaze from his boyfriend’s cheek and placing it back on the painting-like sky above them, miniature dots glistening on the canvas. “What’s that phrase again? If it sounds pretty, I just might get it tattooed on me.”
“Light in darkness,” Jaehyun stops, smiling back at the specs winking at them, “and in Latin,” Y/N looks up at Jaehyun, only to catch him staring back, stars in his eyes,
“Lux in tenebris.”
End.

hey uh. wanted a quick writing exercise so here’s some boo chronicles: part i from zuko’s pov
—————
It’s not the first time he’s been slumped over his kitchen island at a stupid hour, eyes drying out as his tries to finish yet another dull paper by someone who’s allegedly smart enough to be relevant to his field, and it’s also far from the last time he’ll do this, but that doesn’t mean Zuko can’t huff about it. As his eyes glaze over another paragraph, he absently taps out a text to Sokka, because Sokka always has something funny to say about whatever’s on Zuko’s mind—even his petty complaints.
He’s just set his phone facedown on the counter again when his text tone dings. Zuko blinks. Sokka’s never up at this hour, but …
like u wouldn’t kiss bersani’s gravehole
Zuko smiles and shifts his thumb to slide the text open when another message appears with a chime: hey. would u be my pretend boyf plus-one for a wedding in two weeks?
He drops his phone, shooting upright in his seat and staring at his cell warily.
That’s. That’s one hell of a loaded, unexpected question.
Except Sokka doesn’t know about Zuko’s feelings for him. Zuko’s continued to treat one of his best friends like a best friend, because … because. Because Zuko knows he had his chance when they first met, seven years ago, but Zuko wasn’t ready for Sokka and wasn’t ready for anyone, really. And then Sokka moved on and that was fine, really, because this thing between them is as profound as Zuko’s relationship with Mai or Azula or Ty Lee, and Zuko wouldn’t trade it for the world.
He picks up his phone and replies, what?
A second later, a photo of Sokka wearing a bucket hat and sunglasses as he pretends to kiss a fish he’s caught flashes onto Zuko’s screen. Sokka hates that Zuko chose this photo for his contact; he thinks it makes him look like a straight man on a dating app. Zuko has to remind him that Sokka’s the one who sent him this photo in the first place.
Zuko picks up the incoming call and immediately gets an earful of Sokka. “—be the ultimate flex of a significant other on an ex. You’re, like, the most thoughtful, big-hearted person I know, and you’re beautiful and fashionable and accomplished. You’re going to be world-renowned famous in, like, two years.”
Sokka’s always been too generous when it comes to characterizing Zuko, but that doesn’t stop the flutter in his gut. It’s a flutter that tends to rise into Zuko’s throat, making his words catch and give him away when Zuko really doesn’t want to confess to anything, so he breathes steadily and waits until the feeling subsides before he asks the logical question: “Why not Suki?”
“Suki and Zahra are almost the same person,” Sokka answers without missing a beat, “so Zahra would just take pity on Suki and shake her head at me. But she’d think you’re wildly out of my league—”
“I’m not,” Zuko automatically refutes, even as he’s thinking, Of course, Zahra. Sometimes, when he’s not thinking like a kind and generous person, he wishes Zahra were an awful human being so he could properly hate her for the ringer she put Sokka through. She’s not, though—she and Sokka were just the maybe-right people and the definitely-wrong time—so Zuko’s left with nothing more than Of course, Zahras and a heightened awareness of Sokka whenever she’s brought up.
Sokka’s still going. “—and thereby infer that I’ve grown as a person since she dumped me, and then she might even question whether walking away from me was the right choice.”
It was three years ago, and Sokka put himself back together a while back, but sometimes something slips through the cracks.
“To be clear,” Zuko says—encourages a reaffirmation, really—“Her walking away from you was the right choice. Right?”
A sigh, and then an exhaled, “Yeah.”
He wishes he could see Sokka’s face. Usually, he can read Sokka from just the tone of his voice, but one word doesn’t give him much. “Sokka, you aren’t asking me to do this just because there’s a chance you’ll feel a brief sense of victory over someone you’re actually perfectly cordial friends with … are you?”
“No,” Sokka immediately says. “I’m asking because there’s no one I’d rather have by my side than you.”
Zuko’s throat tightens.
It took him a stupidly long time, really, to realize that words don’t mean the same thing to other people as they do to him. He used to get caught up in and read into word choice and modifier placement and goddamn commas to try to understand exactly what other people meant, but it wasn’t until Mai snapped at him, once, during their senior year of high school, “For fuck’s sake, Zuko, I sent t-h-x instead of thanks because it’s quicker, not because I secretly hate you,” that he learned that words are just plain words to most people.
So he knows that Sokka doesn’t mean that he wants Zuko with him first and foremost at all times. That’s just Zuko’s literary brain slathering layers of meaning and significance onto a sentence that Sokka meant in a very, ordinary, unexceptional way.
There’s still a small part of him, though—a part he’s working on—that needs to check anyway. “As emotional support,” he says, curling and uncurling the corner of his printed article with his fingertip.
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
There’s a pause before Sokka echoes, “Okay?”
Of course, okay. Sokka wants him there, and besides, no one reads Sokka as well as Zuko does, and he doesn’t think even Suki knows the full extent of the Zahra thing. He doesn’t want to send Sokka spiraling, though, so he directs them in a safer direction: planning. “You said it’s two weeks from now?” he asks.
“Yeah, on Saturday—you’re sure?”
Sokka’s hesitation never fails to baffle Zuko. The man has always radiated steadiness, and he’s been the stalwart of their ever-evolving group of friends since forever, so much so that it took Zuko a while to parse why Sokka was ever hesitant. Now that he understands that aspect of Sokka, though, whenever his uncertainty crops up, Zuko just wants to fight anything that’s ever held his friend back. No one deserves to thrive and grow more than Sokka.
“Why would I say okay if I was’t sure?” Zuko replies.
Sokka clears his throat. “Great,” he says and then surges on. “Uh, it’s in Montreal. I don’t know what your work schedule is like, but I was planning on taking Friday off to drive up, and then come back on Sunday—”
“Works for me,” Zuko interrupts the rising ramble. He has a couple meetings, on Friday, but meetings can be made up. This can’t. “We can take my car, if you want,” he offers, because he’s actually parked in the city and certainly gets better gas mileage than Sokka.
“Actually—yeah. That’d be great.”
Zuko can tell Sokka’s mind is elsewhere, so he waits. Sure enough, he clears his throat again. “The pretend boyfriend thing … We don’t—we don’t have to do it. Bottom line, I’d just like it if you were there.”
“Are you backing out?” Zuko teases before he catches himself, and fuck, okay. There’s no going back now. But that’s fine, because he’s an adult, and he’s equipped to deal with this. They might even be able to have fun with it. “Let’s do it. I bet we can get her to second-guess herself for at least a second.”
He can hear the smile in Sokka’s voice when he agrees, “Okay.” A few clicks make it through the line; Sokka must be working with some data. “I think I should get to bed. This data set won’t process faster just because I’m watching it.”
“I wondered why you were awake right now.”
“Enjoy the Bersani booty-lickers.”
Zuko sighs—the rectum essay isn’t the only thing that Bersani’s contributed to the field—and Sokka snickers. He should let Sokka go, since his friend really isn’t a night owl, but there’s something still tickling the back of his mind. “Sokka?” he asks.
“Yeah?”
He finally grasps the thought. “You have grown as a person. Since the stuff with Zahra happened.”
It takes Sokka a moment to respond. “Thanks. I’ll see you soon.”
His voice is soft, in a way that it rarely is around the rest of their friends, and fuck, Zuko’s throat is acting up again. “Get some rest,” he manages and then hangs up.
This time, he intentionally drops his phone on the counter, and his forehead follows soon after. The marble is cool against his skin, and he breathes deeply against the racing of his own heart. He’s doing this, he reminds himself, because he’s the best person to help Sokka in this situation.
It’s incidental that he’s powerless to the urge to remind Sokka, in every way he knows how, that Sokka deserves to shine his brightest self at all times.

Hi Steph!
I’m sorry it’s my first time sending you an ask, so I dunno which button I clicked man. Sorry about that.
Ok, so what I wanted to request! I love your blog. You’re really kind and genuine, and I’ve found some great fics to light up my day from here. But sometimes, the posts are suuupppeeerr long, and I may not be looking for this info exactly? Like it clogs up a lot of my dash. So I wanted to request if you could use a “read more” feature after a brief, at least for the fic rec posts.
I hope I didn’t offend or anything. Thank u for all the kindness you put into the world each day. Have a good day fren!
Hey Nonny!
Ahh, okay, you’re not going to like what I am going to say, but you are very respectful and were smart and sandwiched your issue in compliments, so Ahhhh, I feel conflicted now.
With all due respect Nonny, this is my blog and I get more engagement on my lists if people can see the full list; many people prefer it that way, and honestly I get crapped on either way, so I’ve made the executive decision to not cut my posts. The only time I do is on “second” reblog on super long LONG lists so that I have a “cut” and “uncut” version of the post, but even those I’ve been reducing.
I’ve tried both ways, and full posts get better notice. All I want to do is share my love of fics and content with y’all, and the best way to do that is to just have it all there so people know what they’re getting.
Plus, am I to just “readmore” every single reply on my posts? A lot of the reason my blog has stayed as long as it has is because I’ve always been a very interactive blog. People LIKE seeing their replies added to a comment thread on my post, and it helps smaller blogs get noticed. It’s not much on the surface, but I’ve had smaller blogs come to me DELIGHTED that their name is now attached to one of my posts that are going through a “popular reblog cycle” (that is, a post that is being interacted with for a good few days before I actually finally add it to the month-reblog queue). It helps create a sense of community, I feel, and that’s one of the things I am very honoured to be: a starting place for community.
And this is just in a general sense and NOT directed at you, more at the people who shit on me in the notes of my long posts, but I don’t GET people getting upset about my TEXT BASED POST WITH NO IMAGES IN IT, but not on any of the image or playlist posts I reblog, which take FOREVER to load on mobile. I GENUINELY don’t get it. I don’t even use the app on my phone, I’m logged into the browser on my phone, because the app is garbage.
The problem is the app, in my opinion. That’s the gist of it. It loads slow, it scrolls terribly, and the UI is annoying, but instead app users blame the bloggers and not the fact that Tumblr staff ignore every suggestion we make. And because more of the newer people use their mobiles these days, us old-time Tumblr users are expected to microblog like the shitty sites that are Twitter or Facebook. Tumblr is a blogging platform, like LiveJournal, laid out all nicely and clean and honestly, (the royal you) you’re getting exactly what you signed up for: long posts, opinions, and interaction. If one wants shitty layouts, shitty comment threads you can’t follow and reactionaries, go to Twitter. Call me a boomer, whatever, I just find Tumblr so much more appealing now more than ever.
Sorry, I’ve needed to get this off my chest for awhile now. I don’t know. Maybe I’m being pedantic. I don’t care, really. My thoughts on this: if (the royal) you don’t like the content, or find stuff annoying, don’t follow me.
Because you know what a lot of my longest posts are?Helpline numbers at the bottom of posts. Useful links. And just stuff that make people happy. People in despair are not going to click on a read more of a post. People who want links to resources aren’t going to click on a read more. People who just want happiness after a stressful day are literally just scrolling to smile, and they ain’t gonna click a read more.
YES, there are reasons read mores are good, absolutely. I just PERSONALLY don’t like them because I like engagement. I don’t get much of it anymore on my posts, EXCEPT the fic rec posts, and THOSE work better as a full view.
BUT NONNY PLEASE KNOW I AM NOT UPSET AT ALL WITH YOU, and you’ve given me a great opportunity to discuss this thing that I’ve put off for awhile because the other people were less-than-kind, and it only made me NOT address it out of simple spite because I’m nothing if not a passive aggressive old lady.
So, here are a few ideas you can implement:
If you like my posts but not the longest ones, I always tag them “long post”. Tumblr finally has its own tag blocking feature, so just block “long post”. All of my very long lists will be blocked, and you can decide if you want to click on them based on what the additional tags are. I try my best to tag all my lists appropriately.
Similarly, you can “tag block” my username, and only click on the posts you like the tags for.
DON’T TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY, PLEASE, this isn’t a “so there!” comment, I promise!!: You can unfollow me if you’re only following me for the fic lists, and instead follow me on Twitter at @inevitablyjohn1, which is used only to promote my new lists and art. Every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday I post up the Wednesday Reblog, Five Fics Friday, Fic Rec Roundup, and Fic Rec Sunday, with a link to each post :) Then you’ll get all the lovely full lists I post 4 times a week. OF COURSE, this is the option I don’t want to happen, because I love all my lovelies and you’ll miss out on the random fics, insightful asks, and suggestions I get throughout the week, BUT I want you to enjoy your time on Tumblr, and if my blog is causing you stress, it’s the last thing I want to happen. I love all of y’all too much to see that!
THAT ALL SAID, Nonny, I’m really sorry to disappoint you, and I hope you understand my POV on this. I just don’t see any benefit on my part, for MY blog, which I run for MY happiness which has the side effect of making other people happy. I also hope you will still stick around regardless, but I care about your well being and I understand if you have to leave.
AND everyone, please don’t be harsh on this Nonny! They asked a question respectfully and deserve our respect in kind.
I truly wish you the loveliest of days, Nonny, and have a great week! <3

Indignation
The screaming crawls up the walls of her oversized, child hood home to shake her ear drums. The thunder only adds fuel to the fire that is the rage possessed by both Prentiss’ as they continue their screaming match.
“Don’t you dare walk away when I’m talking to you!” Elizabeth’s voice matches the rain. The way she stomps behind her daughter looks almost comical.
“Back off mother.” She mumbles this more to herself than her mother.
She stops walking, planting her feet firmly on the Brazilian Chestnut flooring. “I will not ask you again.” She comes to a stop, takes a breath, and slowly turns to her mother. Not meeting her eyes, of course, because it’d hurt too much to see the hate in her eyes. “Look at me.” The mother growls. She slowly moves to meet her mothers eyes and finds nothing but rage there; energy matched to the thunder and rain outside. “You will not see that-” The derogatory term gets caught up in her throat.
Taking a step towards the elder, “What?” Daring to ask the question to which she already knows the answer. “What do you want to say mother?” Her jaw tightens, a sign that Emily knows all too well. “Spit it out.” Its taking everything in her not to raise her voice again and spew the word out for her mother.
Elizabeth takes a breath of her own before replying. “You are not to see that girl again or so help me, I will make sure she goes back to where she came from.” Before Emily could object, she speaks again. “That is final Emily.” Her voice holds strong, and suddenly the storm ceases its assault.
All is quiet in the Prentiss house yet the tension remains; so thick that you could cut it with a knife.
Disregard
The next morning you arrive to school earlier than usual, but for good reason. Some random college hoodie wrapped loosely around your torso and a dainty neck tucked under it. Your school uniform has never fit you quite right because of how late in the year you transferred, you know...left overs. Phone is going absolutely crazy in your shirt pocket but now isn't the time, you’re looking for somebody. You’re looking for her. Mr. Ricci’s voice can be heard on your left, telling a group of guys its time for class. Emily...where the hell are you?
As the day progresses you still see no sign of the brunette until now. “Emily!” Running up to her you deliver a swift punch to her shoulder. “Where the hell have you been?” When her eyes meet yours they puffy, like she’s been crying. “Em- I-”
“First of all, ouch. Secondly, I can’t right now.” She turns to walk off with her lunch in hand, but you quickly pull her back by her elbow.
“You ‘can’t’ right now? What the hell is wrong with you?” Its taking everything in you not to become overtly emotional. “And where have you been?”
“Y/n I’m sorry but I really can’t right now.” She pulls away from your grip. Leaving you more confused than before.
You scuff at her wording. “You never calls me by my first name...” Its always been her thing, starting with a joke about how she has another friend by the same name as you so she had to call you something else. The next day was the same, avoiding you at all costs.
But it didn’t stop there.
It felt as though you were left on a physical manifestation of ‘read.’ Her name with the red heart emoji attached, did not pop up on your phone for what seemed to be months but in reality it had only been a few weeks. If she were to simply pick up the phone you would have been able to tell her about your unforeseen departure time. Due to sudden changes in international studies, you had to leave and the academy needed their student back. The one of which you exchange places with in January. Tears spring to your eyes at the thought of leaving. Not only are you leaving her, but also leaving this city you got to call home.
Sunny days always seem to appear at the wrong time, your departure day. She’s not here to see you off, hasn’t been around for a while. Can you really blame her? She doesn’t even know you’re leaving because she wont pick up the fucking phone. It doesn’t matter anymore, your time is up and so is her’s. A line of black and white kittens sprint across the cobblestone streets and that right there is what makes you break down in tears. Seeing the delicate kittens run after a mouse while tripping over their own feet. Random yellow flowers peaking through the stone which you’ve never known the actual name of. That one girl in Chem that would bake cookies for the class on Fridays. Your host dad taking you to his favorite café that served an increasing number of Cuban smokers. Going to eat gelato after homeroom with that one guy who would always make Golden Girls references. Then there was Emily, the girl that gave you a dainty gold necklace for valentines day. The girl that got a random jock to stop harassing you. The person whose lap you’d lay in on Saturday mornings at the park, is the same person who randomly started to ignore you. Maybe you could have fixed things with her if you had more time. You were supposed  to have until June but suddenly everything shifted and all you were told is that you needed to come home, promptly. You couldn’t wait for her any longer, not even sure why you thought she’d come in the first place. Casting one last glance over your shoulder before stepping into the buzzing airport.
At least meet me half way.
Hereafter
"I don’t think so.” You laugh at your friend’s proposition to set you up on a blind date. “I am absolutely content with the way I choose to live my life.” Shifting a bit on the new couch that hasn’t been broken in, resulting in the stiff cushions.
He lets out this weird scuffing noise. “No you’re not. Remember last weekend when we tried to pull an all-nighter but your sleep deprived brain betrayed you?” At your nonchalant shrug, he continues. “You started rambling about just wanting to find some well educated, fun loving, female in this world full of bureaucratic straight men. Your words, not mine.” You throw a pillow at him but he swiftly doges it. “But you couldn’t have said it better.” These recent years have been a series of unfortunate dates that have ended in you lying about having to leave early for something.
“Don’t you have a girlfriend you should be getting home to?”
“Not tonight, I’m all yours. Apparently she has her knitting circle tonight.”
“That's what you get for dating an older woman.”
“Its a five year age difference! What is wrong with you people?”
You hold your hands up in defense. “Nothing, as long as you’re both legal and she’s good to you, its fine by me.”
“Shut up!” He screeches. “Oh shit, don’t you have a meeting in the morning?”
“Yes sir.” He stands to take your glasses and plates in the kitchen but you object. “Leave it,” At his confused expression, you continue. “Cleaning helps me relax so I figured I’ll wake up early so I can do that and reduce my stress levels by at least ten percent.”
“Dude, you’re seriously weird.”
“Say another bad thing about me and I'm sending you home.”
Throwing him a few pillows from the hallway closet and a comforter just for him to scream, “Its too hot in this cottage core apartment!”
Its not even cottage core themed?? Its just cozy with a plant or two. Am I expected to live in an ice cold home? I feel like he’s just saying this because I’m gay.
Your prepared outfit hands on the back of your bedroom door, mocking you. Making you reconsider the entire thing and simply not go but it feels as though you’d regret it if you didn’t. Maybe not, who knows?
And with that as your final though, you drift off to sleep.
You wake at the amazing time of 6 A.M to see your guest gone with a note on the couch:
I cleaned up the mess from last night and I also did the dishes in your sink. Not sure how u slept through all of that...I made a fruit salad for ur breakfast and a normal one for lunch.
Good luck with your meeting!
And one of those old fashioned emoticons at the bottom corner. Idiot.
You eat the food he left from the fridge, brush your teeth with the news playing in the background, and continue on with the normal morning routine.
Gathering your lunch and the little items you feel like you’d need, phone, charger, paper work, and keys; you know, the works. Finally heading out to your destination with nothing but ambition, you run into a slight problem.
Overlapping breakfast with an old friend of yours. “Hey, babe, I am so sorr-”
“Absolutely not, I don’t want to hear your excuses.” The positive voice rings through the phone like velvet sheets after a cold shower. “You missed our reservation!” Have to admit hearing them whine is pretty entertaining. “You had one job. One!” You guys met some years ago over some random online forum, arguing over some random movie. You don’t talk as much as you’d like but breakfast is always on the menu--mostly in February.
“Quick question, am I allowed to apologize?”
There’s a beat of silence on the other end, “Yes you may, but only in fruit baskets and coffee.”
“I got you, next time though. I’m on my way to something right now.”
“Something...” In comes the teasing undertone. “Does this ‘something’ have a name?”
Bursting into a fit of laughter at what is implied and replying, “Definitely not, its a work thing.”
“Speaking of work, I have to go. Ciao!”
Just in time to end the call, you pull into the designated parking deck from the email. Going through all of the security procedures was hell but blatantly necessary; the rest was gravy. Floating through the rest of the building gave you a slightly stressful feel because of all the men walking around with perfect suits and casting no glances your direction. When the glass doors labeled BAU appear, you take a deep breath and walk in with confidence. Taking in the buzzing sound of agents at work all around you. Agent Hotcher’s office is glaringly obvious: higher up than the rest, perfect overview of the hive, and in direct eye sight of the entryway doors.
Delivering a swift knock to the office door you hear a faint invitation from the inside. Walking in with a smile and straight back you are greeted with a man in a dark navy blue suit and a stoic look to attached to him. It first starts with the small talk of your experience, early life, skill sets, and what not.
“Agent Hotchner, might I speak out of line for a moment.” He gives you a skeptical look before nodding. “I understand the nature of this meeting but I am not completely sure why it was conducted.” His furrowed brown is not a good sign, making you correct your structure a bit. “Right, well,” God his stare is fucking intense. “What I mean to ask is, why am I here?”
That was bold.
“Agent, are you not aware that this is a Career Analysis Assessment?” As it slowly sinks in an O-shape forms with your mouth. Now you feel like a complete idiot in front of this prestigious, tight suited, man. “You were unaware? Its fine if you were,” You let out a sigh at the confirmation. “I have a tendency to write my emails with an excessive amount of four syllable words so one could see where the confusion originated.” You let out a nervous laugh at the realization that this is basically a job interview.
“I see that you’ve spent time studying abroad.” Indicated by the recommendations from your Italian Psychology teacher. “Why not join the CIA?”
“Dare I say, they make me nervous?” He cracks a small, very subtle, smile at the admission.
“What made you want to leave Human Resources?”
“I got tired of analyzing decisions with nothing but dead bodies and messy crimes and having my primal focus be the agents and not the victims or perpetrators. Using what I’ve learned as material for agents in training when I could have prevented it from happening.”
“Well said, but I need to be completely transparent with you.” This can’t be good. “I will admit that I have serious reservations about adding a Human Resources officer to my team.”
Shit let me stop him before this spirals. He thinks I’m a spy. “Sir, with all do respect, I have no intentions of being a bureaucratic spy. I’d also like to point out that I wasn’t that high on the HR totem pole to the point where I had an explicit say on what happens to agents, who is hire, fired, or how they’re trained. I analyzed and compromised while expressing my findings to an unbiased extent. If I wanted to be a spy I would have joined the CIA.” Besides, Head Quarter’s is the one that does all of that internal investigation stuff, not HR.
He doesn’t say anything or make any sudden movements for a good minute. I fucked up. That spy line was too far. “I’d like to offer you a position on this team, so long as you can start immediately.”
“Yes, of course I can! I don’t have much office supplies besides a pen or two and-”
“Its fine,” He stands from his seat and straightens the dark blazer. “I’ll have one of my agents show you around.”
From across the bullpen you spot a familiar blonde. “Oh my god!” The file in her hand falls to the floor. “Its you!” She practically squeals.
“Penelope, I didn’t know you work here.” You give your old friend a tight, unapologetic hug. She said she worked as a tech analysis but you always assumed it was for an activism group or a tech firm, not the FBI out of all things. Despite having such interesting jobs, you never talk about work with each other. She knows you work for the government but not which. Although knowing how good she is at uncovering people’s secrets, there’s a good chance she already knew you work for the FBI too.
“What are you doing here? Like physically here. I thought you were in Florida.”
“I have to get back, can you take care of Agent Y/L/N for me?” Hotchner says before rushing off without an answer.
And there she goes with the snooping. “Actually, I left the Florida office and went to California.”
“Oh.” Her face twists a bit. “And now you’re here?”
“I thought you were the woman behind the curtains, the all knowing.”
“And wonderful!” She points with her perfectly painted finger.
In comes a slim man with a messenger back, making a click in your mind. “Now where have I seen him before...” Turning slightly to follow his trail.
“That’s our resident genius Dr. Spencer Reid.”
Unbelievable. “He’s twelve.” The young agent’s head snaps toward you and Penelope, “Does he have super human hearing too?” She introduces you to the Doctor who is, as expected, socially awkward in many ways. A man named David Rossi of whom you’ve met at least once during a few Bureau seminars; last you heard he had rejoined the BAU after retirement. Jennifer Jareau is gorgeous with a nurturing nature about her, she immediately recognizes your name from exchanged paperwork but that’s about it. The introductions are brief, everyone seems to be busy with their own things. “Penelope your team is kind of small.” You quietly mention to her.
“Oh!” Guess the realization that two people are missing, finally clicks in her head. She starts walking in the direction of a staircase so you automatically follow her. “This is Derek Morgan.” Standing in front of a round table is a tall man with a really toned body. “Derek, this is Agent Y/n L/n from Human Resources.” His eyebrow arches up in suspicion.
“Oh no I’m not here for anything bad, I’ve actual been transferred into the BAU. Working behind a desk and watching as others do the work I can’t, wasn’t working out for me.” Definitely won’t trust me until I save his life or something. “I’ve heard of you, one of the Academy trainers has shown a few videos of you.” He smirks at the implied compliment and finally holds his hand out for you to shake.
“Where’s...” Pen trails while looking around.
“Oh she’s getting coffee.” The darker man points behind himself.
“Who’s getting coffee?”
Reconciliation
Maybe we wouldn’t be so short handed if they sprung for better coffee. Emily thought to herself while stirring the flavorless, dark liquid. What if they attach a coffee shop to the building? Imagine how much money the shop would make off of overworked agents. But then I feel like we’d start developing a true addiction to this stuff. Her thoughts are interrupted by the approach of foot steps. She meets Derek’s figure and smiles at the resident goofball of the BAU. Followed by Penelope’s pink centralized outfit with feathers. Then there’s you, just as beautiful as the last time you saw each other. If not more. Your hair shines amongst the florescent lights, paired with the perfectly tailored outfit and jewelry. The same eyes that would brighten her day as they met. An almost unnoticeable bounce in you walk, same as it were years ago. As you step towards her there is a flash of gold on your wrist that sends a ping to Emily’s heart, its the necklace I gave you in high school.
Intersect
You would have know about Emily’s transfer here from a few years ago, had her paperwork gone through the HR department but apparently it went straight to the top because this is definitely a surprise. Once you realize its actually her you stop dead in your tracks. Can’t be.
“Y/n,” She stutters out your name in disbelief. “What are you doing here?”
“Emily, I work here.” Ripping the band-aid off like this is an every day encounter; seeing your unofficial ex who you were never actually with in the first place but had the same characteristics as a high school couple. Yeah...that.
She also blurted out a ‘no you don’t’ before Garcia interrupted. “How do you two know each other?”
You both snapped your heads to her simultaneously. “We don’t.” Also said that part at the same time.
“Right.” She drags. “I’m sensing some unresolved tension...”
“What are-” Em tries to object.
“So we’re going to go.” The tech analysis grabs the sleeve of the darker man and practically sprints off in the opposite direction. Morgan having a dumbfounded look on his face.
It feels like you’re at a stalemate, who will make the first move. What will the emotions be? Are they going to fly? Because I’d like to throw a few verbal punches her way. Who does that to someone? I thought I was over it but clearly the wound is still open. Great now watch her blame me for X, Y, and Z,
“I’ve missed you.” She barely whispers, sounding a bit broken yet insincere. Its like she’s detaching herself from the narrative. So unexpected that you almost think you’re imagining this. Why would she say that? This is not the Emily you remember.
Anger bubbles up in your throat ready to unleash upon her entirety. Instead of bursting into flames right on the spot, in the middle of your new place of employment you take a deep breath. Words of disbelief  dance on your lips before speaking. “You did not.” She tilts her head like a curious puppy. Who am I even talking to?
“What do you mean?” And just like that she’s whisked away by a guy in a suit of whom you do not recognize. Your jaw clinches in a desperate attempt to keep your cool, wondering what the hell is going on.
Realization
Besides the surprise of seeing Emily, your first day went great. Everyone kept checking up on you and you couldn’t tell if it was because they were trying to be friendly, excited to have a new teammate, or nervous of your background. “She used to work for the FBI Human Resources Branch.” You heard the skinny one tell Morgan when they thought you weren’t listening.
JJ and Penelope invited you out for drinks but all you really wanted to do was lay in your bed with a face mask and a bag of chips. Waving a farewell to the blonde women and head to your car, but a few feet away you feel a presence. You quickly loop around in search of the energy with your hand on the top of your gun. “Woah woah.” Emily holds her hands up in surrender.
At the realization of who it is you take a breath and clip your gun back in place. You give her a “what the hell look” before straightening your outfit.
“Were you going to shoot me?”
She’s met with wide eyes from your end. “Maybe?! Who sneaks up on someone with a gun?”
“I didn’t ‘sneak’ up on you.”
“Emily, you wear all black and walk like a feather. What were you expecting?” The buried anger is starting showing through.
“Okay,” She does a weird hand movement that kind of looks like she’s trying to calm you down. “I’m sorry. I just thought we could talk.”
“Talk...” You’re not really following.
“Yes, I’d like to talk.”
“Emily what are you asking? I’m lost.”
She take a moment to figure it out before answering. “For a second chance, I’m asking for another shot.”
You uncross your arms at the admission, letting them lazily fall beside you. “Em- I-” She can’t be asking what I think she is. “Its been years. More than a decade has passed since-” The words suddenly die on your lips
“I know,” And it looks like there’s a slight glimmer in her eyes, implying the presence of suppressed tears. “I’d just like to explain.”
“Explain?” You bite, tasting the bitter flavor of annoyance.
“Yes, I at least owe you that.”
And that’s how you ended up here, with her. In a cozy, minimalistic loft at nine in the afternoon with a coffee table separating the two of you.
“I’m sorry.” Was the first thing to break the silence, and this time it actually sounded sincere. “If I could have explained everything to you back then, I would have.”
You lean forward, closer to her and push the rather large vase off to the side so she has to be vulnerable with you. Nothing to help her hide from herself. At her confused face you lean back in your seat and nod for her to continue.
“My mother was always a difficult woman and although she has gotten better over the years, things were at their worst when she found out how much time I had been spending with you.” The brunette takes a minute before admitting the next part. “She was responsible for your early departure. I tried to stop her, give you more time but she’s relentless.” She waits for your reaction but when met with nothing, she continues. “She threatened me by putting our connection on the line, which in retrospect I now realize was impossible to save. She had already made calls to get you out of the country by the time I could sever what we had. I never wanted to hurt you or end what we shared.”
“And what did we share, Emily?”
Her tongue darts from between her lips, doing that weird little biting thing she’s always done since we’ve known each other. It sparks something in you that you haven't felt in a while. “I think you know. The fact that you still wear the necklace I gave you, bracelet, means you never really forgot.”
“I liked it where I could see it, but Em you could have called, texted even.”
“I couldn’t I was scared. Then after you left I started to distance myself from everyone and everything was really going downhill.”
“How so?”
“I got mixed up with peer pressure and boys.” This doesn’t sound good. “At one point I did anything I could to fit in.”
“What does that mean?” There’s a moment when a tear wells up on one of her eyes, but not dropping. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
“I-” She tries to speak but nothing comes out. “I couldn’t tell my mother and the church wasn’t happy with my actions.” It suddenly dawns on you, like a smack in the face. You want to make her stop and just hold her but this needs to come out. “I couldn’t call you because it would hurt too much. I hated myself at that moment more than I ever have.”
“And you haven’t dated since?”
She sniffles and lets out a little laugh at that. “God no, I’ve dated people but I haven't dated another female since. It felt wrong, like I was replacing you or something.”
“You owe me nothing. You were just trying to protect me and I see that now.”
“I knew better, its been so long and when I heard you joined the academy I-”
“Wait, you knew and didn’t say anything?”
“Y/n I couldn’t bring myself to do anything other that attempt to move on.” Silence fills the room and its not the comforting kind. Its the tense, I need to do something, kind.
“Do you feel anything?” You dare to ask.
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean. Were your feelings lost in transit?”
“They froze the day you left, and thawed the day I saw you again. Today.”
“So its not over.”
She appears to contemplate your statement. “No, its not over. We have a chance to start over.”
What now?

Nev, Max, Help!-Nate Jacobs Oneshot
Requested: Yes
Warnings: aggressiveness and rudeness from Nate and a brief panic attack scene
A/N: The reader is gender neutral since the requester did not specify what they wanted and I did not want to disrespect the storyline from the show. Also, it’s a long one.
Tumblr media
For once, Amy Winehouse’s low, melancholy voice did nothing to soothe my nerves as I typed what I was looking for in the designated box. “Love is a Losing Game” was definitely not the best song for the mood but I loved her voice so much; it was like a really messed up security blanket for me. My thumbs shook as I kept typing and quickly deleting my words.
  Someone to have fun with.
No, that’ll bring every single creep to my profile.
  Someone to watch Netflix with.
Ew, no, they won’t want to go anywhere or do anything.
Someone to discuss Maya Angelou with...
This could go one of two ways: attract a sensitive, nice person or the ultimate softboi who was really just an f-boy in a sensible cardigan.
Okay, Y/N, just add to it.
...and have adventures, great conversations, and watch the best movies.
That seemed broad enough and, potentially, weeded out all the weirdos. Patti Stanger would approve of this. I took such a deep breath that I could feel the oxygen in my feet as I pressed the green check mark. An adorable buffering sign appeared before being quickly replaced by a CONGRATULATIONS, Y/N/N, ON COMPLETING YOUR PROFILE.
The air came out of me slowly, like a balloon, and I tried to make myself relax as I swiped through different matches. One person was too short, the other too tall, another had way too many pictures with reptiles in his profile, and one’s bio simply read: DM and you’ll find out.
  Serial killer much?
“That’s part of your problem, Y/N,” Jules had chastised me a few day prior.
“What do you mean by ‘part’?” I’d replied.
“Well, for one, you barely leave the house anymore unless I drag you out,” Jules argued.
  “I’m busy,” I’d defended.
“Rewatching Breaking Bad for the eighth time does not count as being busy. Plus, you’re so picky.”
  “Am not!”
“You said you’d only do DiCaprio in his Great Gatsby days,” Rue had added.
“Did you see him in that suit?”
Jules then shrugged. “All I’m saying is if you aren’t careful, you will end up all alone.”
“That’s not true, Y/N might get cats.”
That conversation had haunted me since and had driven me to making a dating profile after the required Saturday night family dinner. While my parents and brother were downstairs watching a movie, I was holed up in my room, cringing and regretting accepting any chat requests.
Half an hour on the app caused the images of various male genitalia to be burned into my mind. I would need my brain soaked in holy water for it to be erased. I huffed and kept scrolling, vainly hoping and wishing for a decent guy to pop up on my radar.
Maybe Jules and Rue were wrong. Maybe I had all the right in the world to be picky, I thought harshly to myself.
I dropped my phone on my nightstand and flopped against my pillows as Me and Mr. Jones began playing. I sighed and felt myself being lulled into the comforting abyss Amy created.
   Ding!
I jumped out and glared at the source of the noise. Another chat request, another picture to ruin my young brain?
“Be positive, Y/N, this might be good,” I stated as I grabbed the phone.
  Tyler wants to chat!
I frowned and opened up the app, only to be met with the most sculpted six-pack I had ever seen. My heart began banging against my chest and my thumbs fumbled for a moment to answer the chat request.
  Whoosh.
My stomach dropped as I stared at my first chat to Tyler: Shg.ismtle
  I’m. Going. To. Die. Alone.
I quickly typed: Please ignore that, I’m so sorry!
  Seconds later, my phone dinged.
Tyler: Really? I thought you were trying to send me a secret code and I liked that we were that cool already.
This was not real, this could not be happening. Tyler had to be a bot, that was why he didn’t show his face in his profile. Bots were supposed to have a hard time recognizing and creating faces, right?
But, on the off chance Tyler was real, it would have been rude to leave the conversation so abruptly?
Y/N: Who knows? Maybe it was a secret code and I’m just testing you.
Tyler: Ok, let me guess what it means.
   Tyler: Hi?
Y/N: Haha, you really thought I’d use such a simple code as a first message?
Tyler: It’s my bad for underestimating u. I should have known u were smarter since you read Maya Angelou.
  Y/N: U a fan?
Tyler: “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
He knows Angelou? He could have Googled a quote though. Still, it’s a good quote to use if he had Googled it.
Y/N: Nice, but, doesn’t get u out of the guessing game.
As Tyler helplessly guessed wrong for several minutes, I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. I used to think online dating was a last resort or a breeding ground for predators. But, maybe there were decent people looking for something (or someone) meaningful after all.
Tyler: I give up, you’re really good.
Y/N: Thx. But, I can tell you what I meant to say.
Tyler: The suspense is srsly kiilling me.
  Y/N: I meant 2 say hey.
  Tyler: I guessed that!
   Y/N: No, u guessed ‘hi’, there’s a difference.
  Tyler: C’mon, barely.
For the rest of the night, Tyler and I chatted. He told me that he plays baseball at a school across town and he doesn’t like anyone around there. He liked John Mulaney stand-up, lemon bars, going to the gym, hanging out with his friends, and reading good books. He was an only child and his parents tended to spoil him. I told him about my friends and how I liked being on the swim team at my school as well as the different YouTubers and books I enjoyed. When I finally fell asleep, I dreamed of talking to him.
On Monday, Jules and Rue were hanging out outside the school as other people either headed to class or relaxed on the lawn. I could not stop my feet from bouncing as I walked up to them.
“...and that is why Sailor Mercury is the most underrated character of the whole show,” Jules affrimed.
Rue seemed halfway interested as her head nodded slowly underneath the hood of her burgundy hoodie. “Cool, all I asked was who’s your favorite but, cool.”
Jules rolled her eyes playfully and straightened up when she saw me. “Hey, Y/N, nice shirt.”
“Thanks.” I wore a sky blue tie dye shirt with ripped jeans and white Converse.
Rue leaned forward and squinted at me. “You’re not wearing black, something’s wrong.”
“Nothing’s wrong, she’s obviously been influenced by me!” Jules teased as she wrapped a slim arm around my shoulders.
“Yeah, you can only hang out with this literal rainbow human so long before she starts influencing your outfit choices.”
We started heading inside, which was really just Jules and me dragging Rue into the building.
“But I don’t wanna be here. It’s so stupid that I have to wait six more months before I can legally decide where I spend my time,” Rue muttered.
“It’s fine, you have us!” Jules insisted.
   “Yup!” I agreed.
“Hey, Y/N, Rue, Jules!” Cassie greeted as she sidled up next to me.
  We all greeted her.
“Have a good weekend?” Rue asked.
“Yeah, there was this great party that Nick Davis threw. I swear, everyone there was on acid.” Cassie stopped herself and bit her bottom lip. “Sorry---”
Rue shook her head. “It’s fine.”
“How were yours?” Cassie asked as we continued to our lockers.
  “Fine,” Jules said.
  Rue shrugged in response.
I opened my mouth to reply when my phone beeped and I wrestled it out of my pocket.
Tyler: Is it 2 late 4 a good morning text?
  I smiled.
“You’re so cheesy,” I muttered under my breath.
“Who’s that?” Cassie asked, peeking over my shoulder.
I jumped and cradled my phone to my chest like it was my child. “No one.”
Jules pulled open her locker and cocked a bleached eyebrow. “‘No one’ does not cause huge smiles like that!” She jabbed a sparkly-manicured finger at me.
“Yeah, show us,” Rue said. “We are your friends.”
“It’s nothing,” I insisted as I weaved around them.
I pushed myself against my locker and managed to open it with my free hand. Rue was on one side of me and Cassie was on the other.
“Is it a boy?” Cassie sang.
  “Or a girl?” Rue questioned.
“It’s none of your business,” I gritted out as I grabbed my necessary books.
As I shuffled the books in my arms, Jules came from behind and slipped my phone away from me. I gasped, whirled around, and watched as Rue tried to look at the phone while Cassie playfully blocked me.
“Guys, this is not cool! This is such a serious invasion of privacy,” I argued as I tried to move around Cassie.
“We’re besties, there’s no such thing as privacy!” Jules retorted.
“Wow, Y/N, these are so----” Jules cut Rue off.
“Adorable!” Jules squealed and turned to face me.
Cassie took the opportunity to glance at my phone and she smiled. “Aw, this Tyler guy sounds so sweet.”
I snatched my phone from Jules. “Well, now you know. Can we please go to class now?”
As the other girls grabbed their things from their lockers, I got out my phone to reply to Tyler.
  Y/N: It’s never too late...until noon technically.
Somehow, I started wandering away from the girls until I ran into someone. I tried to jump away, but they grabbed me by the forearms.
“I am so sorry, I should have looked where I was going---” I stopped speaking when I recognized Nate’s direct gaze on me. I was pretty tall but I always felt like he could throw me into the lockers if he wanted to.
  “Watch it, Y/N,” he muttered.
“Nate, let go of them,” Maddy chided, her hand resting against one of his arms.
She seemed to have the magic touch because he relaxed and I joined my friends. As the couple continued down the hallway, I couldn’t help but admire them. In a very messed up way, they worked. Kat had told me only a little about what Nate would do whenever Maddy upset him and I felt so bad for her, angry at him, and then conflicted. Nate just had to have that stereotypical amazing all-American look.
  “You okay, Y/N?” Cassie asked.
“Yeah, is it weird that I can still feel his eyes on me even when he’s not looking?” I asked.
“No, his need for dominance permeates everyone’s sense of autonomy,” Rue assured.
  “Nice,” Jules said.
  “And scary accurate,” Cassie added.
Jule looped her arm with mine and steered us in the direction of our first classes. “Anyway, if he tries anything, I’m sure Tyler would gladly kick his butt for you.”
Throughout the day, Tyler and I chatted and I even had to get creative with responding. In English, I kept my head down during quiet reading time and made sure my phone was positioned just right in my lap. During geometry, I told Mrs. Packer that I was having some digestive issues and spent most of the class outside the bathroom, texting Tyler. At lunch, I could barely focus on my friends’ conversation.
“Hello, Earth to Y/N?” Lexi waved her hand in front of my face and I blinked.
   “Sorry, I was----”
   “Texting her boooyfriiiend,” Jules sang.
“He’s not my boyfriend, we’re just talking.” I started poking at my sandwich. “What did I miss?”
“Oh, nothing, just the fact that I nearly blew up the school during chem,” Cassie said.
“Magnesium chloride isn’t an explosive,” Lexi argued.
“Well, the tube overflowed and everyone was freaking out,” Cassie argued.
“Yeah, because magnesium chloride can have bad side effects,” Lexi continued.
“I wonder what would happen if the school exploded and we weren’t all here? Would they have to give us our diplomas?” I thought outloud.
“Ooh, and I could go to fashion school early!” Jules cheered.
“I’d be happy not coming here anymore,” Rue admitted.
It was quiet for a moment as we all ate but that quiet was broken when Maddy yelled.
  “WHO ARE YOU TEXTING?”
I couldn’t help myself but look. Maddy was standing behind Nate, who was sitting with his teammates at the center table. Bebe and Kat flanked Maddy a little behind. Everyone stared at them. Nate’s jaw tightened.
“Maddy, calm down,” his relaxed, controlled voice nearly echoed in the silent cafeteria.
“DON’T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! YOU’VE BEEN ON YOUR PHONE ALL DAY!” she snapped.
  “Maddy---”
“ARE YOU TEXTING OTHER GIRLS?” Maddy shouted.
“Can we talk about this somewhere else?” Nate asked.
Maddy sighed. “Are you gonna let me see your phone?”
  “Maddy, we need to talk.”
  “Don’t talk to me again.”
Before Nate could respond, Maddy dumped the contents of her lunch tray over his head and threw the tray aside. Kat and Bebe followed her as she strutted out of the cafeteria amid the shocked gasps.
“I’m gonna go check on her,” Cassie whispered.
We all nodded and she quietly exited the room. As I stared at Nate, the supposed king of the school, drenched in soggy salad and fat-free milk, I wondered why he could never stay broken up with Maddy. Their relationship was not just toxic, it was volatile. Their breakups were always public and outrageous, but they always ended up back together. No one questioned it either. I never understood why people could continue to choose relationship they knew was bad over pursuing something new. I told Tyler as much that night.
Y/N: It’s like those dogs that get killed by electric fences because they keep walking into them.
Tyler: U have a good point, but, that couple’s relationship is more complicated than u think.
Y/N: Probably, but, it doesn’t look that way. They hurt each other a lot.
  Tyler: How do u know?
Y/N: Bc I’ve seen it. I don’t mean 2 b judgy, but, I could never be in a relationship like that.
Tyler: Well, I don’t think anyone would b if they knew it would b bad.
Y/N: Good point. But, why would they get back together so much?
Tyler: Idk them, but, it could b bc it’s familiar and it’s what they know.
  Y/N: Still, it’s messed up.
Tyler: Yeah, but I don’t wanna talk abt them anymore.
Y/N: K, what do u wanna talk abt?
A few seconds later, Tyler sent me a picture so graphically beautiful that I was convinced I passed out.
The next day, I showed Rue and Jules the picture during break time.
“Holy crap!” Jules took my phone and leaned into it for closer inspection.
 “Tyler is packing,” Rue agreed.
Jules slid my phone back to me. “You haven’t replied to him?”    “No, and he hasn’t talked to me at all today.”
“He’s probably expecting a reply that’s similar to what he sent,” Rue said.
My face warmed up. “I can’t send him nudes,” I hissed.
“Why not? It’s like the greeting cards of our generation,” Jules stated.
“Really? You’d send your grandparents a greeting card of your naked body?” I replied sarcastically.
“Relax, if you’re uncomfortable, we can help you,” Jules assured.
  “We can?” Rue asked.
“We can.” Jules gave her a look and Rue relaxed.
“It’s still weird, but, I guess you guys can come over after school.”
“Sweet! Your mom still bakes cookies for you after school, right?” Jules asked.
  I nodded.
“She might stop once she learns her darling favorite older child is sending nudes,” Rue snorted as she spoke.
I recoiled in my seat, taking a second to bask in the sun’s warmth. “Don’t remind me.”
After swim practice, once my teammates left the locker room, I eyed my naked form in the mirror. I had nothing to be ashamed of, really, thanks to all the swimming, but, I just felt weird being naked in front of people. There was something so vulnerable about it, like, being on display in a museum or lying on a cold surgery table. But, online dating was supposed to get me out of my comfort zone and I’d found someone who’d made me feel comfortable enough to do it. With this resolve, I changed into a hoodie and some sweatpants and left the school. It was dusk and I typically walked home after practice since it wasn’t far. Plus, I’d told Jules and Rue to just go to my house after school.
The late breeze rippled past me and I dug my hands into my pants’ pockets as I started walking towards the parking lot. There was barely anyone around, except stoners hotboxing their cars, some couples making out, and dance team members and football players getting out of practice.
I kept my head down as I maneuvered around the few cars and people around. It felt like someone could spot what I was about to do once I got home and it was nervewracking. All I had to do was get home, let Jules make me look even better, take these pictures, and never thinking of it again.
“Something on your mind, Y/N?” Nate called.
I froze and snapped my head up to look at him. He was leaning against his truck, looking like a model for Ford in only a tshirt and jeans. Ford should hire him.
   “No, not really,” I said.
I started to side step the truck, eyeing the sidewalk that was only a few yards away as though it was a lifeline.
  “Get in,” Nate ordered.
I paused and looked at him. “Excuse me?”
“I see you walking home all the time, let me do you a favor, one athlete to another.” Nate was about halfway in the driver’s seat of the car and all I could do was stare.
“We’ve...never really talked before,” I stated.
“We can talk during the drive.”
I stepped back and my eyes flittered around, like the best decision would hit me in the face. Then, I saw Maddy across the lot. She was standing with a couple of dance team girls, including Cassie. She stared me down as though daring me to do it. I glanced from her to Nate, who started the engine loudly.
I quickly climbed into the passenger’s seat and stared into Maddy’s reflection in the rearview mirror as he pulled out of the parking lot.
“How do you know where I live?” I asked.
“You forgot that I gave you a ride before?” Nate asked.
  “When?”
“After Cassie’s sweet sixteen. You blacked out, your friends were panicking, and I offered to take you home. For some reason, you remembered your address,” Nate recalled.
  “Oh, thanks?”
  “Sure.”
We pulled up to my house a few minutes later, Lil Wayne bragging about his conquests filling the quiet. I hopped out of the truck and grabbed my bag.
“Thanks for the ride, this one, I mean, I owe you,” I said.
  “Yeah, see you around, Y/N.”
I closed the door and headed inside.
  “I’m home!” I called.
My mom poked her head out from the kitchen. “Y/N, how was school and practice?”
  “Fine.”
  “Was that Nate Jacobs outside?”
  I hesitated.
How did she know what Nate’s truck looked like?  “Yeah, he gave me a ride today.”
“Aw, isn’t that sweet? Rue and Jules are waiting for you in your room. They took the cookies with them.”
I nodded and went to my room. As soon as I walked in, they bombarded me with questions.
“Why did Nate give you a ride?” Rue asked.
“What did you guys talk about?” Jules inquired.
  “Don’t you hate him?”
“He’s kind of a dick, but, unfortunately, super good looking.”
  “Did Maddy see?”
“Do you think she’s gonna kill you?”
“Guys, I don’t know but I do know that if you do not take amazing pictures of me with no clothes on soon, I will delete my entire profile,” I interrupted.
  They both nodded.
“But, we will ask for details later,” Jules insisted.
“Okay, but, please give me a cookie, I’ll need it to get through this.”
Rue extended the plate towards me and I bit into the melty goodness as Jules began doing my makeup. It was simple, only bringing out my best features. I made them both turn around as I undressed. Once I had, Jules encouraged me.
“You look amazing, I would be shocked if he didn’t jizz in his pants,” Jules said.
“Lower your voice, Y/B/N can only play Five Nights at Freddy’s so loud,” I hissed.
Jules held her hands up and Rue direct me to lay on the bed, my phone held up in front of her.
  “Okay, look sexy,” Rue said.
I tried to smolder, but, by their expressions, I did not achieve it.
“No, like, pout your lips, like, you just heard that TheOdd1sOut is not uploading for a month,” Jules directed.
“And give the camera bedroom eyes, you know, as though it’s Tyler.”
“Okay.”    After a few pictures, I slowly got the hang of it and even started posing a little naturally.
“Oh my gosh, Tyra is shook!” Jules cheered.
“Yeah, these are pretty good if I do say so myself.” Rue handed me my phone and I flipped through the pictures.
She was a talented photogrpaher and I joked that maybe she should go professional.
“Yeah, I’m sure I’d have a nice clientele.”
I laughed as I changed back into my hoodie and sweatpants. “Okay, help me pick one to send.”
Jules took my phone and she and Rue began scrolling.
“No, the lighting’s off in this one,” Jules muttered.
“No, it’s never off in any of these,” Rue argued.
“I’m not shading your talent, I’m just trying to find the best thing for Y/N to send Tyler.”
After a little more bickering, we all agreed on the picture and I sent it to Tyler.
“Should I follow it up with something?” I asked.
“Maybe say ‘Wrong person’? Guys want what other guys want,” Jules suggested.
“Or say ‘Sorry for the late reply’,” Rue added.
“I’ll go with Rue’s, sorry, Jules.”
  Jules shrugged.
I sent everything off and my friends and I watched as Tyler typed a response.
Tyler: It was worth the wait ;).
We squealed so loud that my mom yelled for us to keep it down. We apologized as we descended into a fit of giggles. Through it all, I could not help but feel so bouncy and light all over. Was I...falling for this total stranger?
“What do you think he looks like?” Jules asked during lunch later that week.
I shrugged. “It’s different every day, if that makes sense.”
“I guess that’s the nice thing about interacting with someone who doesn’t show their face,” Jules thought outloud.
“How do you see him now?” Lexi asked.
I sighed. “Right now, I think he’s tall, six feet at least. He’s got a mix of blonde and brown hair like a surfer because it’s lightened from all the time he’s spent in the sun. He has green eyes, freckles, and he dresses well.”
“Sounds amazing,” Jules said as she rest her chin in her hand.
Rue nodded slowly. “You’re not nervous or anything?”
“No, this is so cheesy, but, I feel like I know him, you know? He’s so easy to talk to and has so much to say.”
“Y/N’s blushing,” Jules teased. “Do you love him?”
“I really, really, really, like him.”
“Do you think you’ll meet soon?” Lexi asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t know, neither of us has brought it up.”
“Well, it just matters that you’re comfortable, okay?” Rue said.
  “Okay.”
If I was honest, I did not know if I wanted to meet Tyler. I knew that I liked him more than I liked anyone before, but, there was something strange about breaking this wall the internet provided us. It was freer to talk on the internet than it was in person. What if I said something stupid in front of him? What if he thought that I looked different in person? What if he looked different in person?
I managed to keep these thoughts at bay for the rest of the day until I got home. Post-dinner had been officially declared Talk to Tyler Time. None of my family knew what I was doing besides blasting Amy Winehouse in my room for about an hour. My laugh nearly overpowered her high note in “Best Friends, Right?”. I had to blink away my happy tears as I replied to him.
Y/N: That did not happen!  Tyler: Yes it did! Do u want 2 c the scar????
 Y/N: No, I think I’m good.
I wiped away my tears and settled under the covers. I wondered if his friends would agree that Tyler gets into some weird situations as well. Just as I started typing, Tyler beat me.
 Tyler: I want 2 meet u.
The speed that I launched my phone away from me almost shocked me more than the text.
  Almost.
My heartbeat thrummed in my ears. This was it, I knew I couldn’t avoid him much longer, but, I felt like I couldn’t move. All I could do was stare at my phone like it was the most offensive object in the world. Slowly, I regained mobility and grabbed my phone. I took a deep breath.
  “Take a chance, Y/L/N,” I whispered.
  Y/N: When and where?
“You’re meeting him tonight?” Jules squealed the next day.
I hushed her as people in the hallway paused to look at us. “Not so loud.”   “But this is so exciting. Please let me help you decide what to wear,” Jules pleaded with a pout.
  “Sure,” I said.
Jules hugged me. “This is going to be so fun. I won’t go crazy with glitter since this is the first time you’re meeting this guy.”
 “Thanks?”
“Do your parents know?” Rue asked.
“No,” I replied as I slowly pulled away from Jules. “They’re coming Senior Night tonight, though. and I’m going to meet him at Mercy Park an hour before it ends.”
“Are you sure you even want to do this? I know that Jules and I tease you about your love life, but, this is risky,” Rue said.
“You weren’t saying that when you were helping me with those pictures the other day,” I shot back.
“That was different. You’re...you’re actually meeting him now and he could be a psychopath or a sociopath or, just, a creepy old guy who likes to look at teenagers!” Rue insisted.
“Rue, relax, everything’s going to be fine.”
“You don’t know that!” She turned on her heel and hurried into the bathroom with Jules and I on her tail.
When we entered, Rue was leaning against the wall, panting and staring up at the ceiling. Jules and I approached her slowly as the girls who were in the bathroom quickly filed out.
“Rue, slow down your breathing,” I said slowly.
“I...I can’t. You-you could get hurt or something and-and I would know about it an-and I-I couldn’t live with that!” Tears burst from her eyes as Rue began pacing and Jules and I were close but gave her room.
“Rue, Y/N is going to be okay, we both know what time she’ll be at the park. If anything happens, we’ll know the area she could be in,” Jules assured her.
Rue shook her head and stopped in her tracks. Then, she looked between us helplessly before bowing her head and sobbing. Jules and I carefully hugged her and let her cry.
“I’m sorry that I’m scared and I care about you and I don’t want you to get hurt,” Rue mumbled into my shirt.
“It’s okay, I appreciate it. I really want to meet Tyler, though, and, I promise I will let you know if something happens, okay?”
  Rue nodded and sniffled.
It took Jules about an hour to make me look amazing. I had no idea my hair could be so fluffy and put together until she was done with it. She used eyeliner to make eyes look bigger and rounder and added sparkly lip gloss to make my lips look plumper. After she contoured and highlighted the best places she deemed that her work was done. My outfit, a fitted forest green long-sleeve shirt and fitted black pants with Jadons, was also approved by her.
“Tell me everything later!” she insisted.
Rue couldn’t join us since she had “prior commitments” but I texted her that I would let her know when I head to the park and when I leave. My nerves didn’t let me focus on the soccer game my parents insisted I joined them and my brother at. I couldn’t care less that the forward on one team got a yellow card or that the goalie on the other team made illegal blocks. I was practically buzzing with excitement and fear so much that I had to give my pretzel to Y/B/N. Finally, the third quarter arrived and I told my parents that I would meet them at home since I’d promised Lexi that I would help her with some homework.
Lexi wouldn’t mind being used for a lie this one time; it was an emergency.
I tried to practice some calming deep breaths as I walked over to the park. The dark night sky provided a little bit of comfort to my walk. I wondered how different Tyler would look from the picture in my mind. I wondered if he thought I would look any different. Maybe (hopefully) it wouldn’t matter to either of us.
Finally, I reached the park. It was empty, save for the oak trees scattered throughout the lush green scenery that seemed mysterious under the mooonlight. A few benches and wooden tables were around as well, but, Tyler and I had agreed to meet at the fountain which was further in the park. The breathing exercises had to have helped because I felt much more relaxed and I hoped that everything would go all right.
When I got to the fountain, there was a tall person facing it. All I could make out were dark clothes and broad shoulders. I took another deep breath and kept walking.
“This is a nice spot, you have good taste,” I commented.
“I could say the same for you.” I stopped in my tracks as Nate slowly turned to face me. His face was unreadable but his eyes stayed on me.
“What? Wh-where’s Tyler?” I asked, my voice already hoarse.
Nate glanced down at his shoes. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know how else to talk to you.”
I shook my head. “No.” My vision got blurry but I could tell that Nate was looking up at me now.
“Just let me explain,” he requested softly.
He took a step towards me and I took two steps back .
“I don’t wanna hear it. This....this is some sick joke to you or something?”
“No, never, Y/N, just listen to me.”
“I don’t want to!” The tears rolled down my cheeks and I swiped at them so hard that I thought I scratched myself. At least I could feel something because my heart felt numb. “You catfished me!”
“I just wanted to talk to you, I really do like you, Y/N. Tyler and I are the same, just different names,” Nate insisted, coming closer.
For some reason, I didn’t move. I didn’t know if it was from emotional exhaustion or stress, but, I let him approach me. I kept shaking my head.
  “No,” I hiccuped.
“I wanted to meet you tonight because I was tired of lying. I want to figure this, us, out,” Nate said.
  I sniffed. “Us?”
At that moment, I could actually see his face and Nate seemed so hopeful. There was a slight smile on his lips and his eyes seemed light for once. Maybe he wanted there to be an “us”. Maybe, despite all logic, he wanted to talk to me seriously and could not do it offline because of his reputation. Maybe, he was over the on-again-off-again situation with Maddy. Maybe, this was my chance, our chance.
I wiped my face again, mentally cringing at how upset Jules would be for my ruining her masterpiece.
“Yeah, us.” Nate stepped closer to me, gently wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me into his chest.
Gradually, my muscles relaxed and I relished in the feeling of his strong upper body and his warmth. Then, I began to feel pressure on my waist and gasped as it intensified.
“Nate, you’re...squeezing...too hard,” I rasped out.
And he started laughing, no, cackling. As he laughed, his grip tightened and I continued gasping and clawing at everything I could.
  “Nate...stop!”
But he kept laughing and squeezing. When he finally released me, I looked up and saw nothing behind his eyes. Everything in me told me to run, but, I knew he could have easily caught up to me.
“I really thought you were smarter than that, Y/N. C’mon, you couldn’t honestly think that I would do all this to be with you,” he sneered.
“So why do it then?” I asked, my voice so small that I could have kicked myself for it.
Nate sighed and folded his arms. “Because you made it so easy and, to ask for a favor.”
“What? That makes no sense,” I argued. “I told you I owed you one that day you gave me a ride!”
“Yeah, well, I needed to make sure that you were available when I needed you.”
“Whatever, screw you,” I hissed as I pivoted on my heel.
“Too late for you, you’re already screwed.” Nate pulled out a folder from inside his jacket pocket. “Remember those special pictures you sent to Tyler? Well, they count as distribution of child pornography, which has a hefty fine and sentence.”
My mouth opened and closed several times before I faced him and responded. “But...but you held them, doesn’t that count towards possession? And, you’re extorting me!”
Nate glowered at me and stormed over. “Heresay, no solid evidence for your case. Plus, I’m a Jacobs, so, who are you kidding?”
I felt so sick to my stomach that I could have thrown up, fainted, or cried at that moment. This was not real, this could not be real.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“Like I said, just be available when I need you.”
  “Fine.”
“Sorry, what was that?” He gripped my chin his hand and forced me to look up at him.
  “Okay,” I said softly.
“Hmm.” His eyes scanned my face before he released me. “And if I ever hear you judging my relationship with Maddy again, these pictures are going to be the least of your concern.”
I nodded weakly, regretting every single thing I ever told him. Nate Jacobs was truly the devil. He wandered off into the night like a centurion leaving a victorious battle. It seemed like he always won.
I managed not to start crying until I was on the empty sidewalk. No, I sobbed so bad that my throat went dry.
How could I have been so stupid? I should have known it was him that day Maddy yelled at him for texting all day.
  Stupid, stupid, stupid!
My sobs continued as I grabbed my phone and texted Rue.
  Y/N: U were right.

This @flufftober2021 fic turned out differently from my usual style, but I still think it's alright! It also includes some images, if you need a warning for that.
Flufftober Day 9: Text Messages
Rated T for swearing, Seteth/Manuela, ~1255 words (with some leeway due to images)
Thursday Sept 16 • 7:14 PM
Seteth: Manuela, thank you again for staying with Flayn until I could pick her up from choir practice. You went above and beyond your duties as her instructor, and words cannot express how grateful I am for your accommodation.
Manuela: np
Seteth: Np?
Manuela: no problem
Seteth: To prevent future confusion, perhaps you should type out full sentences instead of using abbreviations. (deleted)
Manuela: say if you want to thank me with more than just words
Manuela: do you happen to be single?
Manuela: asking for a friend
Thursday Sept 16 • 8:44 PM
Manuela: hello??
Friday Oct 1 • 5:56 PM
Seteth:
Tumblr media
Seteth: Flayn, could you please explain the meaning of this video?
Manuela: this is how you reply after ghosting me for two weeks??
Seteth: Shit (deleted)
Seteth: My apologies, Manuela. I meant to text my daughter. Please delete my messages and forget this ever happened.
Manuela: oh im not mad at you
Manuela: this is l i t e r a l l y the funniest thing ever
Manuela: poor sety needs a lesson on memes?
Seteth: I do not need a lesson on memes. And please do not call me ‘Sety’.
Manuela: you say that
Manuela: yet here you are in my messages asking your daughter what a tiktok video means
Seteth: This video is from Tumblr.
Manuela: who even uses tumblr anymore!! i thought it was dead!!!
Seteth: My daughter and I still use it.
Manuela: anyway
Manuela: the joke behind this tiktok is simple
Manuela: very beautiful
Manuela: very powerful
Manuela: a meme lesson for you, free of charge. youre welcome
Friday Oct 1 • 11:07 PM
Manuela: you get why thats funny right
Saturday Oct 9 • 10:31 AM
Seteth:
Tumblr media
Seteth: Flayn, I sincerely hope that you did not want to become a marine biologist because of internet memes.
Manuela: lmao you did it again??
Seteth: Fuck (deleted)
Seteth: My apologies for bothering you once more, Manuela. I promise that I won’t repeat this mistake in the future.
Manuela: wait you arent going to delete my number are you?
Seteth: I would prefer not to, in case I need to contact you regarding Flayn’s choir schedule, but I cannot keep accidentally messaging you when I mean to message her.
Manuela: but i dont mind the memes
Manuela: really
Manuela: your cluelessness is a b s o l u t e l y adorable
Seteth: I do not appreciate being made fun of.
Manuela: im not making fun of you!!
Manuela: this is your problem sety
Manuela: you need to lighten up. thats why you dont understand these memes
Seteth: Lightening up is not my problem. I already allow Flayn a great deal of freedom on the internet, provided that I am able to check her social media on occasion.
Manuela: and then you pester her about memes you do not approve of
Saturday Oct 9 • 11:45 AM
Manuela: hello?
Seteth: Apologies for not replying back sooner. I had personal tasks to attend to, and I was also thinking about what you said.
Seteth: I do not disapprove of her jokes, but perhaps I give her that impression because of how often I ask for explanations. I truly do not get the humor of this generation of children.
Seteth: Please do not tease me, Manuela. This is a serious matter.
Manuela:
Tumblr media
Manuela: oh sety
Manuela: you really do need to relax
Manuela: how about this? you can send me memes that you dont get, and ill do my best to explain them
Manuela: and i promise i wont tease you too badly ;)
Saturday Oct 9 • 12:58 PM
Manuela: hey sety i was being serious that time you know
Seteth: Apologies for the wait. I was compiling several recent memes from Flayn. I have 3 of them to share with you today.
Seteth:
Tumblr media
Manuela: oh come on you haven’t heard of the squid game
Seteth: I have heard of Splatoon, yes. Flayn plays it all the time.
Manuela: not that squid game!!
Manuela: its a popular netflix show that has nothing to do with squids
Manuela: so the joke is that people like you who dont know about the show assume that its about squids using underwater computers
Manuela: or something like that
Seteth: I see.
Seteth:
Tumblr media
Manuela: lol!!
Manuela: youve seen crazy car mods right? Looks like someone put a bunch of crayfish in their car
Manuela: which i approve of btw
Seteth: And I do not approve of it. I shudder what to think if Flayn did this to her own car when she gets one.
Manuela: then dont let her get a car
Manuela: that was a joke btw please let your daughter have a car
Manuela: anyway what else you got
Seteth:
Tumblr media
Manuela: ok you got me with this one
Manuela: theres probably a science joke in there and im not a science teacher
Manuela: i know someone who is tho. you know hanneman?
Seteth: Please do not show Hanneman these memes. I do not want my name attached to them.
Manuela: i wasnt going to tell him who sent them to me but ok fine
Seteth: Thank you for your help anyway, Manuela.
Manuela: np
Manuela: you can keep sending me all the memes you want btw
Manuela: anything to save my star singer from her clueless father
Seteth: I am not clueless. I am simply unaccustomed to modern Internet humor.
Seteth: If you do not mind me talking to you for a bit longer, it feels like the internet has changed so quickly. Back then, we had Lolcats, Rickrolling, Newsgrounds, and other jokes that were easy to understand. Now, I am baffled by every other image my daughter sends me.
Manuela: the jokes havent changed that much sety. everything is as silly and random as it was back then.
Manuela: its just your tastes have changed but thats normal. youll get used to it
Seteth: Thank you, Manuela. I must confess that it’s nice to talk about this to another adult.
Manuela: np
Manuela: tho now you got me wondering, how old are you
Seteth: I am 39 years old.
Manuela: no way??
Manuela: before i thought you were m u c h older than me, but when you started talking about lolcats i was like wait a sec
Seteth: Do I really act that old? (deleted)
Manuela: and you still havent answered my question btw
Seteth: Which question?
Manuela: are you single
Seteth: I fail to see how that is relevant to the conversation at hand.
Manuela: im just saying if you want to ever talk about memes in person, im always up for a drink
Saturday Oct 9 • 3:22 PM
Manuela: shit did i scare you off again
Seteth: Not exactly. I was just considering it.
Manuela: either you learned how to joke really fast or youre actually into me??
Seteth: I do not know how to respond to that. All I am saying is I am not adverse to the notion of talking to you face to face. Perhaps about other topics besides memes.
Manuela: ofc we can talk about other stuff!
Manuela: are you free tonight?
Seteth: Not tonight, I am afraid, but we can meet up some other time.
Manuela: kk
Manuela: looking forward to more invigorating discussions from you sety ;)

| caffeine |     [chapter 4]
pairing; fratboy!wonwoo x female!reader
this chapter’s notes; daddy kink, minor dumbification, name calling(like once) but also soft wonwoo!! 🥺💕 we love soft woo in this house!! thank you for your continued patience y’all! I love u 💕 take care of yourselves, drink water 💕💕
chapters; 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - x - x - x - x - x - x
Tumblr media
For the next couple of days, you continue to text Wonwoo; somewhat shocked that he was quite responsive to your messages. Something about him struck you as the ‘left on read’ type initially, then you realized you didn’t really know much about Wonwoo in actuality.
On the flipside, you avoid the library all-together, getting your work done at home where you can actually focus and get the shit done. Also because you start to worry that people like Mingyu, who reads you like an open book, will start to take notice of your sudden frequent visits to the library that you normally only went to once in a while.
Wonwoo texts you a few times asking if you’re okay and you wonder for a second if maybe the fox-eyed fratboy actually cared about your wellbeing and you reply back each time, letting him know that you’re fine and just preferred to get work done at home for the time being.
He doesn’t ask any further.
Except this time when he texts you on a Saturday afternoon after his shift at the library, you can’t help but be curious what his intentions are. He asks you to meet him at a cafe, citing a time and location without any further instructions or details. You know for sure he doesn’t have any classes since it’s a saturday so he must be free all day. And you contemplate telling him you’re busy, but you figure it can’t hurt to see what he wants.
Tumblr media
When you show up to the cafe on Saturday, you’re running late by a few minutes, power walking into the shop as quickly as you can while your eyes search for Wonwoo. He probably came here right after his shift, you think, fuck, I hope he wasn’t waiting long.
“Hey! Over here!”
Turning, you see him at a corner table, two drinks already present while he puts the book he was reading away. “I was kind of wondering if you weren’t going to show up.” He smiles at you kindly as you sit down and for a moment you wonder if you’re really meeting the same Wonwoo.
“Uh, yeah, sorry, I woke up late so…”
“S’okay. Happens all the time and anyway it’s Saturday so most people sleep in. Anyway, I ordered you a caramel macchiato, I didn’t really know what you wanted to be honest.” His voice turns shy, mumbling towards the end as you choke on your own spit. This could not be Wonwoo.
The Wonwoo you knew was cocky and domineering; full of mesmerizing charm and unending smirks when he fucked you. This Wonwoo in front of you matched his usual outward image; shy and reserved, avoidant eyes when you try to make eye contact.
“Oh, uh, this is fine! Thank you. I kinda realized we don’t really know much about each other, huh?” You end with an awkward laugh, picking up your cup to take a sip.
“Yeah, to be honest, that’s why I invited you out today. I thought maybe we can… get to know each other.”
“Hu--Huh? Oh, um, yeah that… would be good.”
Tumblr media
You can’t help but blush when Wonwoo opens the door for you when you exit the cafe.
Over the approximate hour and a half there, Wonwoo tells you about himself while you tell him about yourself, learning little bits and pieces of each others’ lives. And what you learn about Wonwoo couldn’t be farther from the one you’d gotten to know between the bookshelves.
He tells you about his archeology major; eyes lighting up when he tells you about the research one of his professors had been doing. And then when he tells you about his volunteer work at the rescue center that he usually does on Saturdays, you feel your heart doing backflips in your chest. There was no way you were going to fall for a guy from SVT House. You hated that you automatically categorized him with the rest of his fraternity but there was a reason why they were notorious in the first place.
“Hey, you okay?” Wonwoo’s worried eyes meet your confused ones. “H-huh?” He leads you onto the sidewalk, hand on the small of your back as he walks with you down the street. “I was asking you if you wanted me to walk you home or if you wanted to come to the rescue center with me. We won’t be there for long but it’s… something to do, I guess. I usually go after my shift at the library and I’m usually alone but we were at the cafe for a while so...”
You try to swallow down any weird romantic feelings that threaten to bubble up, nodding your head as you send him a small smile. “Yeah, I’d love that actually. I mean, to come to the rescue center with you.”
The two of you spend the rest of the afternoon together playing with the kittens that Wonwoo had seemingly fallen in love with; watching as they followed him around while he cleaned up. You help him tidy up, only sitting down once all the chores were taken care of.
A small calico comes to sit in Wonwoo’s lap when the two of you finally get ready to leave for the day.
“She seems to like you a lot, Wonwoo. She’s been following you all day!” He laughs at your compliment, petting the cat in his lap. “Guess I just have that kinda charm, huh?” You roll your eyes, reaching into his lap to pet the, now, purring cat. “She just wants a daddy to take her home and care for her.” In a flash, you realize the fault in your wording, cheeks heating up immediately when you realize your mistake and Wonwoo’s sudden silence.
“She wants a daddy, is that what you said?” “Um, y-yeah, you know, wants… to be taken to a loving home.” “Mm. I see.”
Neither of you say any more, letting the cat get the last bit of your attention until it’s time to leave.
Wonwoo walks you back to your place after; the silence almost deafening until he stops in front of your building.
“I guess I’ll see you around then?”
“Y-yeah, I’ll, um, see you around Wonwoo. I had a nice, um, time.”
“Yeah, me too. Goodnight.”
Tumblr media
Mingyu invites you to a study party of sorts one weekday after his morning class wraps up, promising you there’d be food if you showed up. You agree on the count of free food, but you remember halfway to the SVT House that, yes, Wonwoo lives there too.
Checking the time, you realize it’s just a bit after his shift at the library but he has afternoon classes so you breathe a sigh of relief, continuing your walk towards the frat house. Vernon meets you at the door, ushering you inside to the living room where the others were already getting started.
“Ah, there she is! My favorite nerd.”
Mingyu slams his book shut, getting up from his place on the floor to pull you into a hug. Your eyes immediately scan around the room, eyes fixated on a certain silver haired male oddly present.
“Uhh…” You freeze up in Mingyu’s hold, tentatively wrapping your arms around his midsection for a half hearted hug. “Yeah, hi…”
“Did you just ignore the fact I just called you a nerd? Are you finally accepting your true calling?” Mingyu jokingly checks your temperature, laughing as he drags you to a spot in between himself and Minghao on the floor.
“Okay, anyways weirdo, I know you haven’t formally met everyone so say hi.” You crack a tight lipped smile, introducing yourself to the others present in the room. You realize that it’s true you’d never been formally introduced to anyone in SVT House, but it made sense considering you’d either decline their party invites and the only other few times you’d seen them were in passing. You do recognize Vernon from your Film Analysis class and Jun from the Modern Architecture class you’d taken last semester. The new faces around the room were Jihoon who is a Music Technology major and Seungcheol who is a Music Business major. Wonwoo introduces himself quietly; a twinkle in his eye when he smiles at you from across the room.
After formalities are done, everyone quickly delves into actually studying and talking about their coursework; Minghao invading your personal space to ask you for your opinion on some of the pieces he’d been working on for his Abstract Art class. You give him your undivided attention, Mingyu leaning in to also give his opinion.
Seungcheol orders food at some point, notes forgotten for a little bit while everyone eats before diligently getting back to their studies.
You take in account how Wonwoo opens up to his frat brothers, laughing and playing along with their jokes the entire time.
Tumblr media
After a while, everyone slowly disperses; some returning to their rooms and some leaving for their night classes. Wonwoo stays behind. Still reading through one of his textbooks when Minghao, the only person other than you and Wonwoo, decides to finally head back to his room.
“You… wanna stay here with Wonwoo or...?” Minghao turns to you one last time, waiting for your reply.
“Oh um, I’m just gonna finish reading this chapter and then get going?” You turn to Wonwoo who meets your eyes. “Yeah, I’ll see her to the door when she’s done. You can head back to your room, ‘Hao. I got it.”
Minghao nods, already heading towards the stairs to leave you and Wonwoo alone in the living room.
You give it a second, making sure everyone is truly out of the living room before you clear your throat.
“I thought you had afternoon classes, I was surprised you were here.” His eyes never leave his book, fingertips at the corner to flip the page.
“It was cancelled today. Thought I’d supervise their study session or else they’d just goof off. It was nice to see you today though, princess.”
Blushing, you slam your book shut on accident, placing it on the floor next to you. “Y-yeah, it was nice being here today. I’m shocked they really hit the books too. I’m so used to Mingyu missing class from his hangovers, to be honest. Who knew he could really focus when he needed to, huh?” The two of you share a laugh, already starting to tidy up.
“Um, I guess I should head out then? I don’t want to be out too late so…”
“Yeah, um, did you want me to walk you back?”
“No! Uh, I mean no it’s okay! The sun’s still out anyway and I need to run by the store so I’ll just walk back myself. Thank you though.”
Wonwoo walks you to the door, a firm hand on your waist as he escorts you. In actuality, you hadn’t seen him since the prior Saturday when he’d taken you on the little outing, which you didn’t consider a date, and even this time he hadn’t even tried to lay a finger on you. And in theory, you should have been glad at the distance but part of you genuinely missed his physical touch.
“Well, I guess… I’ll see you?” Ah, familiar words.
“Yeah, who knows, maybe I’ll actually swing by for a party if Mingyu invites me next time?” He smiles lopsidedly at you, squeezing your waist before letting go.
“Get back safely.”
Tumblr media
“W-Wonwoo, hah, pl--please more…”
“Mm? Who’s Wonwoo? Shouldn’t you be addressing me properly? And what do you want more of, sweetheart? Use your words.”
You press the vibrator harder onto your clit, grinding into your own palm. Wonwoo watches you through the phone that’s set up haphazardly on the bed in front of you, his own hand in his sweats as he strokes his cock. “Ah, c-can I add another f--finger? P-please… daddy…”
He chuckles darkly, a soft groan on his lips after as he watches your fingers disappear into your pussy.
“Think you deserve it, baby?”
“I---I, ah, I dunno, daddy…” You let go of the vibrator, letting it fall to the bed next to you. “H-Haven’t I b-been good for you, d-daddy?”
“You have, sweetheart. My cute babygirl was so good for me. You can add another finger.”
He watches you ease in a third finger, moans spilling from your lips at the stretch. You give yourself a second to adjust to it, hips wiggling once the initial sting subsides.
“Look at you. So desperate to get your cute ‘lil pussy filled. Y’kno, you were so cute earlier. Sitting in between Minghao and Mingyu and studying like a good girl. Maybe we should try cockwarming next time, hmm? I could read you some poems while you sit on my cock.”
You moan at his words, clenching around your fingers as you thrust them in and out. “A-ah, that--that sounds n-nice...”
“Yeah? You wanna sit on daddy’s cock while I read you poems?”
“Mmhmm… Yes, daddy… w-want your cock..”
“Aww, my babygirl only knows how to take daddy’s cock, huh? Why don’t you get your vibrator for me again.” You reach for the discarded item, fingers still knuckle deep inside of your pussy as you moan out.
“W-what next, daddy?”
“What do you think, sweetheart? You get your pussy full and now you can’t even use your head? Hmm? Can’t even think straight?”
“M’sorry…”
“I want you to turn it up to the max setting and put it against your clit. Make yourself cum for me. Let me see you.”
You whimper when the harsh vibrations meet your clit, toes curling against the bedsheets. “I see your legs trying to shut, princess. Don’t make daddy angry.” Nodding, you try to keep your legs open towards your phone for Wonwoo to see, trying to watch him on the screen through bleary eyes.
“Is d-daddy gonna cum s-soon too?”
“Mmhmm, let me see you cum first, baby.”
You pump your fingers faster, using your other hand to keep the vibrator tightly pressed against your clit.
“M-my hands are gettin’ tired, daddy…”
“I don’t care. Weren’t you the one who called me? Telling me your panties were wet and you needed to get off? Begging me on the phone to help you cum?” You whine, the urge to cum rising. “Daddy, p-please keep talking to me… I’m close...”
“You like it when daddy talks to you? You’ve barely even watched me this entire time while I’ve had my hand around my cock. You’re so lost in your own pleasure, aren’t you? Fuck, I wish I was there fucking you.” Wonwoo moans, hips canting up into his own fist as he watches you. He’s close to cumming too, wanting to cum with you.
“Fuck, baby, cum for me. Cum with me.”
You cry out, body arching against the sheets when you cum. You can vaguely hear Wonwoo’s moans in the background as well, too focused on your own pleasure to fully pay attention.
The vibrator falls out of your tired hand just as you feel the air back in your lungs, slowly slipping your wet fingers from inside of you.
“Mmm, is my baby tired now?” You look at your phone through foggy eyes, shaky legs still spread wide for Wonwoo to see your glistening folds.
“Mmhmm..” You decide to give him one last show, bringing your wet fingertips to your mouth as you lick them clean.
“Fuck, you’re a filthy ‘lil slut.”
You giggle, popping the digits from your mouth.
“Yeah, but I’m your filthy ‘lil slut.”

124. “I’m sure I can get some kind of sexual gratification from just staring at him if I try hard enough.”
“You’ve been staring at him for like, three whole minutes.”
“Is it obvious?”
“You’re dripping ice cream on the table.”
“Ah, shit!” you looked down and true enough there was a messy splotch of bright pink, melted bubblegum ice cream on the table that had fallen off from your spoon.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Hot Ice Cream Man probably didn’t see it because if he looked back at you, you would practically jump in your seat,” your friend snickered at you. “Why don’t you just talk to him?”
“Because he’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever met,” you replied, eyes drifting up to watch the silver-haired man who worked at the ice cream parlor on afternoons from Thursdays to Saturdays.
“One large scoop of cookie dough ice cream,” the beautiful man smiled as he handed a customer their order. You had figured out his name was Sugawara when you stopped staring at his face every time you ordered and actually read his name tag. After serving the ice cream, he took his scoop back, twirling it slightly with his long slender fingers, before scooping some strawberry ice cream.
“I wish I was that ice cream scoop,” you sighed.
“You can’t get into his pants if you just keep dragging me here every week,” your friend said. “Even though I do thank you for treating me to the ice cream, as you should.”
“Your weird ice cream,” you added, raising an eyebrow at the contents of their cup.
“Hey, mint-chocolate chip ice cream didn’t do anything to you,” f/n cupped their hands around their ice cream protectively. “Now stop changing the subject. Just go talk to Mr. Hot Ice Cream Man because I’m pretty sure he’s caught on to why we’re always here.”
“I’m sure I can get some kind of sexual gratification from just staring at him if I try hard enough,” you said stubbornly.
“Fine, suit yourself,” your friend held their hands up in surrender and stood up from the table. “I’m going to get water.”
You were too busy going back to stare at Sugawara to realize that your friend was going to ask for water when you were basically the one who brought an extra water bottle for them wherever you went. And by then, it was too late because they were talking to Sugawara, clearly not ordering water, and pointing at where you sat.
“No, no, no,” you muttered to yourself, feeling like a deer in the headlights when Sugawara looked back at you. To add to your horror, your friend waltzed away, blowing you a kiss before entering the bathroom, and Sugawara slid out from behind the counter and began walking towards you.
And then, Mr. Hot Ice Cream Man sat in front of you at the table. Seeing him up close and fully regarding you, not just to ask you for your ice cream order, stole the breath from your lungs.
“U-um, hi,” you squeaked.
“Hey yourself,” Sugawara smiled, folding his hands on the table. “So, your friend there told me about why you’ve actually been coming here quite often.”
“They’re crazy! I swear!” you protested. “I mean, who orders mint chocolate ice cream consecutively for weeks?”
“Well, you’ve got a point there,” Sugawara made a face at the empty ice cream cup that f/n ate from. “But, you do admit that you’ve been coming here ‘consecutively for weeks,’” he said, quoting you. You bit your lip, knowing that you were pretty much trapped, but at the same time, you didn’t quite imagine how smooth Sugawara would be at talking. It thrilled you and put some of that nervous edge away.
So, you leaned closer, propping your chin with both hands with a playful smile on your face. “And, what if I am?” you asked. Sugawara’s eyes widened a fraction at the sudden change in your tone but a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“Well, don’t think I haven’t noticed you too,” Sugawara chuckled, the sound sending a shiver through your spine. “In case you want to do something other than eat ice cream, I get off at four.”
You felt blood rush to your face. Did Mr. Hot Ice Cream Man that you’ve been staring at for weeks just ask you out? You were ecstatic, but also not wanting him to win in this game of who could keep their cool, you maintained an even tone as much as possible.
“I’ll check my schedule,” you nodded.
“Great,” Sugawara smiled. And then, out of the blue, he licked his thumb and rubbed at something on the corner of your mouth. “You had a bit of bubblegum pink there,” he winked, before leaving the table and returning to his work.
“Fuck...” you felt yourself whisper, knowing very well that you lost this battle at keeping your cool. And that’s how your friend found you when they finally came back from the bathroom.
“So, judging from your face it went well,” they grinned broadly, looking like a cat that had just eaten a canary.
“A word of warning would have been nice,” you grumbled. “Also, were you ever going to tell me that I still had ice cream on the side of my mouth before you got Sugawara to come over?”
“Huh? What ice cream?” your friend looked at you, puzzled. You blinked at her in surprise before your gaze flew to Sugawara who smiled innocently.
This man was going to be the death of you.

-----------
Wei Ying was exhausted. It wasn’t even a physical sort of exhaustion, but one brought on by the absolute circus the last few weeks had been, following the very public arrest of Lan Xichen’s fiancé for the exact corporate espionage Gusu Lan Tech had accused him of and ruined his life over five years ago.
Trust Nie Huaisang to somehow convince the FBI to arrest Meng Yao during a major family dinner for the grooms that was well-attended by the media as a sort of social gala, and to also ensure they arrested Jin Guangshan at the same time. He was only the head of Jin Enterprises, so it’s not like it didn’t send that company’s stocks tanking immediately while also humiliating Gusu Lan Tech.
Nie Huaisang did petty well.
Wei Ying just wished the aftermath hadn’t meant reporters hounding him and A-Zhan almost constantly, though that wasn’t Huaisang’s fault. At least, that he knew of—his old friend hadn’t reached out, and Wei Ying didn’t know whether to expect him to.
They’d had to start screening their calls and if they did go out, it was wearing disguises and usually separately.
It had started when Jin Guangshan’s shitty nephew had attempted to ambush interview them while they were shopping for groceries with A-Yuan.
Everyone knew he was a hack. Jin Zixun had majored in history at a university his uncle was on the board of (the only reason he was even admitted) and barely got his degree. He’d been resoundingly rejected by every reputable employer despite his uncle’s best efforts, and could only get a job at some hack blog site pretending to be news and to have journalistic integrity. He was largely known for ludicrous conspiracy theories, vehement misogyny, and, weirdly, white nationalist talking points, but his articles and livestreams apparently got enough advertising revenue to merit his continued employment.
He had the nerve to imply Wei Ying had somehow framed Meng Yao and Jin Guangshan.
On the bright side, the camera had been livestreaming, and A-Zhan had verbally eviscerated him and implied that he probably had a hand in the corporate espionage, that maybe the investigation should look into him.
“I recall your name and the insulting things you said and wrote about Wei Ying. You claimed, without evidence, there was a connection with Compu-Jiang, and then they took a financial hit. Trying to take out your uncle’s competition?”
Jin Zixun’s face had turned interesting colors and he cut the camera, but the damage was done. They learned the next day he was canned from the pseudo-journalist farce and the FBI had declared him a “person of interest” and seized his electronics.
The interest in that led to more media coverage looking at the Weis, rekindling interest in the false accusation and Wei Ying’s blacklisting from the industry. Uncle Four had banned reporters from the premises, and since he owned the building that meant they at least weren’t buzzing the apartment from the lobby or, worse, somehow getting in and knocking on their door, for the most part at least. Now they were simply waiting across the street and accosting them if they spotted them, something that most often happened if they were together, and less if they were separate.
Wei Ying didn’t want to revisit the year or so following the blacklisting. Even with A-Zhan beside him, it had been like a montage of humiliation and pain. He hated that these reporters wanted to put all that on display again.
The Wens had been amazing, often bringing them groceries and cooked meals, but they couldn’t stay cooped up—they had a son, and he was fond of parks and libraries. Sometimes his aunts or uncles or Granny would take him out for them if there was a congregation of reporters, and that had at least ensured the parasites hadn’t caught on to A-Yuan’s existence connected to them yet.
As a bright spot, A-Li had contacted him. With her father-in-law in prison for the corporate espionage Wei Ying had been framed for, her husband had consented to let him meet his nephew. She was excited to meet A-Yuan. They were just waiting for some of the furor to die down.
Even though it was Saturday, Wei Ying was finishing a coding project while A-Zhan was taking A-Yuan to the library and then a different park than usual. He wished he could go with them, but it was better not to tempt fate.
He was nearly finished sorting out a coding error when the bell for the apartment building buzzer rang. Sighing in irritation, he stalked to the door and pressed the button to respond, careful not to press the one that unlocked the door.
“No comment. Please leave the premises.”
“I am not the press,” a gravelly male voice responded.
Wei Ying blinked. He knew that voice, but he couldn’t place it.
“Name?”
“You know perfectly well who I am.”
It was the haughtiness of the tone that pinged his memory. How could he forget, being lectured by Lan Qiren on his ungrateful nature and ruining of his nephew when he was being fired?
Just the memory made him nauseous. As far as he knew, Lan Qiren hadn’t reached out to A-Zhan, though Lan Xichen had, apologizing that they would be dragged into this again.
Quickly, he pulled his phone from his pocket and fired a text message off to A-Zhan.
Your uncle is here
“You’ll need to make an appointment,” he said blithely. “Have Lan Xichen set it up with A-Zhan. He has his number.”
His phone dinged as the uninvited visitor made outraged sounds that he very carefully refused to allow to register as words. Then the buzzer started up again, and he ignored it.
Not invited. Do not let him in.
In spite of the seriousness of the situation, Wei Ying had to smile over his husband’s use of proper punctuation and capitalization, ever proper even via text.
on it, he replied. will let you know when clear
The noise from the intercom/buzzer ceased, thankfully, and Wei Ying moved back toward the office, stepping over the barrier that kept Turmeric from getting to all the cords. As he did, he texted Wen Qing to let her know what had happened.
a-zhans uncle buzzed from lobby
told him to make appt
idk what he wants
He sat down with a sigh and stretched before trying to immerse himself back in the code. He’d just found his line of coding error when a knock on the door reverberated through the apartment. Before he could even contemplate getting up, his phone chimed, a text from Wen Qing.
Auntie 6 came to me
He followed her in
Uncle 4 and I are on it
Which meant, of course, that Lan Qiren had breached the building, likely not even registering that he was trespassing, or so privileged that he felt trespassing laws didn’t apply to him.
Fuck.
He could feel his anxiety rising, something he didn’t need. Now was not the time for a Xanax, no matter how much his heart was fluttering at the idea of having to deal with A-Zhan’s uncle.
lmk when i can escape, he sent back.
Then he texted A-Zhan.
breached perimeter
qing-jie & unc 4 to rescue
will come to u
where r u?
Wei Ying crept to the living room, trying to stay quiet as the intruder knocked again, more forcefully. He debated for a moment, fiddling with his phone nervously before slipping it in his pocket, then grabbed Turmeric’s carrier, leash, and harness. The bunny needed some outdoors time, and Wei Ying would probably be able to meet A-Zhan and A-Yuan at the park.
The knocking continued, and he was certain before long Lan Qiren would lose all sense of decorum and start yelling through the door.
plz hurry, he texted Wen Qing.
He donned a hat A-Yuan had gifted him for Father’s Day, an adorable white bucket hat with bunnies and carrots on it, and a pair of big sunglasses. He was wearing torn jeans and a black t-shirt with a binary code motif Wen Ning had given him for Christmas—it read “fuck off,” but wasn’t too inappropriate given that only coders could read it. He was as decent as he was going to get.
Wei Ying opened Turmeric’s hutch and scooped him gently into the carrier, hushing him even though he was completely quiet and cooperative. He felt like an intruder in his own home, and it left a sour taste in his mouth.
Finally, he could hear voices outside the door—Uncle Four’s boisterous voice asking what he could do for “the gentleman,” Wen Qing mentioning trespassing, Lan Qiren’s haughtiness slowly sputtering out, growing distant as they led him away.
His phone dinged twice, A-Zhan texting the location of the park, and Wen Qing giving the all-clear. Wei Ying grabbed his shoes, keys, and wallet, Turmeric’s crate and his sundries, and slipped out of the apartment in socked feet, easing the door shut and locking it as quietly as he could.
He practically tiptoed down the side staircase, the one that didn’t lead to the lobby but straight outside, and slipped his shoes on in the vestibule before slipping outside into the sunshine, making sure the door shut behind him without anyone getting in.
The park, thankfully, was not too far away, and he didn’t see any reporters on this side of the building. Likely they had seen Lan Qiren enter and were all crowded on the side near the lobby hoping to see something good.
Fat chance.
Wei Ying booked it the first few blocks before he felt like he’d escaped and started to calm, but he didn’t really relax until he could see A-Zhan in the distance, looking in his direction, A-Yuan beside him sipping on a boxed apple juice. His husband folded him into a hug, and he could feel the tension ease from his body with a soft sigh.
“I brought Turmeric. He could use some outside time.”
The tiny smile he got from A-Zhan finished the job of easing the worst of his anxiety, and they sat with A-Yuan on the grass to bring Turmeric out of the carrier and belt him into his little harness.
His fingers fumbled on the buckles and he sighed in frustration.
“Sit, A-Ying,” A-Zhan said. “Relax.”
There was a bit of worry in his eyes, and that told Wei Ying he must look frazzled. A-Zhan knew his anxieties, knew what Lan Qiren had said to him, something he’d opened up about long ago, when they’d learned to communicate and work as a team, and when Wei Ying was learning not to push him away.
And so Wei Ying settled back and let him finish with Turmeric, focused on the sunshine and the breeze and the soft grass beneath him. His fingers itched to pull out his phone, though he’d received no notifications, and he resisted it, instead rubbing his hand along the surface of the grass, letting the individual strands tickle his palms.
Before long, their absolutely adorable second son was contentedly exploring the grass, and curious children were starting to gather. A-Zhan explained bunnies didn’t like loud noises and sudden movements, and told them if they had permission from their parents, they could approach one at a time to pet him.
A-Yuan tumbled into Wei Ying’s lap, content to watch Turmeric from there, and he had no doubt his son had picked up on his anxiety. He was a bright boy.
Eventually, the children wandered away, a calm bunny only so interesting, and A-Yuan was half-asleep on his lap. A-Zhan’s phone dinged, and he handed the leash to Wei Ying before fishing it out. A bit of texting and a few alerts later, his mouth was downturned.
“A-Zhan?” he asked.
“I sent Xichen to retrieve Qiren, but he insists he must speak to me.”
Wei Ying fantasized briefly about Lan Qiren being led from the premises in handcuffs, yelling, but he knew that wouldn’t solve anything. It could well make things worse, so he wasn’t even able to enjoy the fantasy.
“The board voted to remove xiongzhang,” he added. “Likely he wishes to insist I take over the company.”
He felt his chest clench at that. Pity toward Xichen, who had done what he could to keep Wei Ying out of prison even if only for A-Zhan’s sake, and the grief he was facing as his life fell apart around him. But more, there was fear that A-Zhan would take it, would leave him behind—not a rational fear given everything they had weathered together, but anxiety was cruel.
“You can take it if you want it, A-Zhan,” he said after a minute.
A-Zhan made a noncommittal noise.
“I am texting Wen Qing to prepare a conference room so we need not open our home to him,” he replied after a moment. “I should hear him out.”
Wei Ying looked away, swallowing hard at the taste of bile. His vision was blurred, but he kept a handle on it, refused to cry again over this.
“I… I’ll stay with A-Yuan while you meet him.”
He startled when A-Zhan knelt in front of him and took his hands.
“We are together in this and all things. Granny will meet us and watch A-Yuan during the meeting. I need you there, A-Ying. I will say no.”
Wei Ying glanced up at him.
“He will hound us until I meet with him, but I will not go back to Gusu Lan Tech,” A-Zhan said, his voice insistent, worried. “My place is with you, at Dafan.”
“You’re sure you don’t want it?” he couldn’t help asking.
This was, after all, a chance for A-Zhan to reconcile with his family and further his career. But his husband’s expression turned stormy at the question.
“They will never admit to having wronged you, A-Ying. I cannot abide that.”
Wei Ying manages a weak smile.
“They’ll never admit they wronged you, either.”
A-Zhan nodded, the corners of his lips taut with stress.
“Wen Qing will sit in with us since this is now a Dafan Applications matter. Uncle Four, too.”
Wei Ying blinked at him blankly for a moment before he understood. Technically Gusu Lan Tech was trying to poach A-Zhan from Dafan Applications, which made it company business. Lan Qiren was trespassing on Uncle Four’s property, which made it his business. And it meant they’d have witnesses. His husband was clever, and so was Wen Qing.
“A-Die, baba, okay?”
A-Yuan looked up at them solemnly. The poor child had been with them at the grocery store when Jin Zixun had ambushed them, had seen so much these past weeks that he didn’t understand. He deserved some explanation.
“We are, baobei,” Wei Ying said firmly. “Bad things happened a few years ago. Someone made it look like a-die did something bad, and they just got caught.”
He could see the moment their son understood.
“That’s why the mean man said it was your fault?”
Wei Ying nodded, and A-Yuan squirmed out of his lap to give him a giant hug.
“Thank you. Now baba’s uncle wants to talk to us, so we need to go home. You’ll visit with popo while we find out what he wants, okay?”
A-Yuan bit his lip, looking more anxious than a child his age should.
“Baba’s uncle won’t be mean to you, will he?”
His heart broke at his son’s concern. It was clear he’d picked up on undertones they thought they’d kept away. A-Zhan wrapped A-Yuan in a hug.
“Baba won’t let shufu be mean to a-die,” A-Zhan said seriously.
“And your gugu will be with us, so she won’t let him be mean to either of us,” Wei Ying added.
A-Yuan brightened—Wen Qing had a reputation, one even her five-year-old nephew was aware of. He trusted her to protect his dads.
“Okay,” A-Yuan said. “If you bring Turmeric with you, he’ll comfort you if he’s mean!”
Wei Ying smiled at that.
“That’s why we’re leaving Turmeric with you, so he can comfort you. I know you’re worried, but baba and I will be okay. We’ll come right home when we’re done and snuggle with you and Turmeric.”
Their son seemed to accept that, and A-Zhan deftly removed Turmeric’s harness and placed him in the carrier. He pulled their disguises from a bag. Wei Ying was delighted when A-Yuan put on his brown bunny bucket hat, and he reached out to arrange the ears once the boy had it on. A-Zhan was wearing his own bucket hat, green with frog eyes, also a Father’s Day gift from A-Yuan.
Honesty, he hadn’t expected that fatherhood would make A-Zhan even sexier, but he wasn’t complaining.
The walk home was quiet. Wei Ying dreaded reaching home and hated that he felt that way. The home he had made with A-Zhan and A-Yuan was precious to him, and it felt like a sacred space had been violated.
As they drew nearer, they planned to separate, A-Zhan taking A-Yuan to one side staircase, and Wei Ying taking Turmeric to the other, the plan to meet at the apartment.
Wei Ying was actually surprised when it went off without a hitch, and he opened the stairwell door to see A-Zhan unlocking the door, Granny already hugging A-Yuan. Just a few years ago she’d have picked him up, but he was a bit big for that now.
She smiled at his approach, reaching up to pat him on the cheek.
“Aiya, you look so stressed. Popo will make dinner,” she said. “Auntie Three is making baozi for the building, too.”
Several of the aunties loved cooking different things in excess, so every few weeks they would make a huge batch of something delicious for the whole building, since everyone in the building was family. Auntie Three’s baozi were a favorite of his; she remembered his love for spicy food and always accommodated that in his.
“Extra spicy for A-Ying,” he chirped, though popo clucked softly in a way that let him know she saw through his attempt at cheer.
She headed straight for the kitchen, where she would likely catalogue the fridge to decide what to cook. Whatever she made, it would be delicious; his mouth was almost watering just thinking about it.
He focused on getting Turmeric settled in his hutch, and A-Zhan got A-Yuan situated with a coloring book and crayons.
“I should change,” Wei Ying said, remembering his torn jeans and the shirt Lan Qiren might be able to decode.
He’d probably think Wei Ying wore the shirt on purpose to send a message. Frankly, Wei Ying wouldn’t mind that interpretation, but he didn’t want to antagonize.
“What you are wearing is fine,” A-Zhan said, catching his wrist. “He interrupted our day, and he can get us as we are.”
A-Zhan was still wearing the frog bucket hat, with apparently no intent on removing it. His light blue shirt, Wei Ying noticed for the first time, was the one with a print of a rabbit wearing glasses and a bow tie, with ‘daddy’ in script underneath. Wei Ying snagged his hat with the bunnies and carrots motif from where he’d placed it atop the bunny hutch and put it back on. They’d match, to a certain extent, present a united front.
“Be good for popo,” A-Zhan directed A-Yuan, as though their son would ever be anything but good.
The boy simply nodded and discarded his crayon to run over and hug them both.
The first two floors of the building were Dafan Applications office space. Though the first floor also held a lovely coffee shop and several other stores open to the public, the core of the building was the headquarters. An elevator and staircase serviced the offices, accessible with employee IDs. Each office was accessible only by swiping employee IDs, and record was kept of who entered and when.
Since the apartments were held entirely by family, it might have seemed paranoid, but Wei Ying was glad for the security the building had—after all, the lack of it at Gusu Lan Tech had led to him being framed for corporate espionage. Poorly, but it ultimately hadn’t mattered.
He hadn’t understood why he’d been framed, only that he’d had to correct Su She’s subpar coding many times when he’d worked there, so it wasn’t very surprising that he’d fuck up installing the code to the point where it would be caught before it could do damage. Since he’d never been anything but pleasant to Su She, that he’d been targeted had surprised him.
When he had mentioned his confusion to A-Zhan, about a week after the news broke, he learned that Su She had tried to tell A-Zhan that Wei Ying was a poor choice as a romantic partner, implying he would be better.
“I told him he was not qualified to speak with me,” A-Zhan had recollected.
It made a sick sort of sense—if Wei Ying was out of the way, fired or imprisoned, Su She might think he had a shot. And given that Lan Qiren had hated him even before he and A-Zhan started dating, the frame up job was sufficient.
A-Zhan took his hand and led him into the elevator, and he realized he must have blanked out because he hadn’t even heard it arrive. His husband was watching him in concern, and he hated how much this invasion by Lan Qiren was messing with him, but he absolutely wasn’t going to abandon A-Zhan to face him alone.
“I’m okay,” Wei Ying said. “I just want to get it over with.”
Uncle Four was waiting for them by the elevators. He offered a smile.
“I’ll bring by a few bottles of my newest brew later,” he said in greeting.
“That bad, huh?” Wei Ying asked ruefully.
“I don’t wish to speak ill of A-Zhan’s family,” Uncle Four said deferentially.
‘But that man…’ was heavily implied.
A-Zhan inclined his head.
“He decided Wei Ying’s guilt on flimsy evidence,” his husband said, his tone dismissive.
Wei Ying squeezed his hand—it was as close to disparaging as A-Zhan had ever come toward his uncle. More often, they simply pretended he didn’t exist, which prior to this had been fairly easy. When they had spoken of it, when he had finally told A-Zhan in one of his darker moments what Lan Qiren had said to him when running him out of Gusu Lan Tech with security, his husband had simply folded him in his arms and told him he was wrong, over and over again, and reiterated that he had chosen Wei Ying.
A-Zhan was angry, he realized. Perhaps over Lan Qiren returning to their life with all of his customary arrogance, or perhaps in defense of his brother, who was being excised from the company. He remembered, early in their relationship, learning that both brothers had been told what to major in, prepped for what Lan Qiren thought their careers should look like at Gusu Lan, which was why A-Zhan hadn’t been able to pursue music as he had wished. It was why he had expected him to break up with him, as ordered.
He wondered what Lan Xichen had given up, what dreams he had let go to serve his family.
“Tomorrow,” he told Uncle Four. “I think we’ll need tonight for us.”
The older man offered a sympathetic smile and escorted them to the conference room.
It was the ostentatious one they used for particularly obnoxious or status-obsessed clients, with handsomely-carved panels with the Dafan Applications logo and an imposing table that looked expensive but were actually the work of a family member with a woodworking hobby. It had two doors, one on either side of the long table, which was ideal—they wouldn’t have to walk past Lan Qiren to get in or out.
When they entered, Wei Ying’s gaze was drawn to Lan Xichen first, seated at the side of the table. He looked… defeated was the first word to come to mind. He glanced at his husband, could see he too was looking at his brother, concerned lines at the corners of his eyes betraying his emotions.
“Finally,” Lan Qiren commented, drawing their attention. “I don’t have all day.”
His gaze was, as usual, disapproving, and he completely disregarded the fact that he had been the one to crash their day, not the other way around.
“My husband told you to schedule an appointment,” A-Zhan said in lieu of greeting.
He tugged Wei Ying to the head of the table, where someone had thoughtfully placed two chairs. Qing-jie was his guess, letting them present as the team they were. She was on one side of the table beside the seats, and Uncle Four sat on the other, probably as owner of the building. Wen Ning was too faint-hearted to handle this, he knew, even though he was technically the head of Dafan Applications.
“An appointment, to see my own nephew?” Lan Qiren grated, glaring at Wei Ying like it was his fault.
“You told me five years ago that I was no nephew of yours,” A-Zhan said, his voice dispassionate.
Wei Ying knew how much that had hurt A-Zhan. Part of him wanted to tell Lan Qiren that, rail at him over every emotional scar he had inflicted on the both of them, but he also knew there was no point in it—he wouldn’t listen, and he knew well enough that it wouldn’t be cathartic. It was better to let A-Zhan get this over with and be here to support him.
“You were making a mistake!”
His continued glaring at Wei Ying made it obvious what “mistake” he was referring to, and he barely managed not to flinch. It was clear this conversation was not going to be pleasant. A-Zhan took his hand, lacing their fingers together and squeezing gently.
“As I recall, the evidence that he was not making a mistake has been all over the news,” Wen Qing drawled.
“What business is it of yours?” Lan Qiren demanded. “Why are you here?”
“As witnesses,” she replied. “And A-Zhan and A-Ying are family. We’re here for them.”
Warmth spread through Wei Ying’s chest at her pronouncement—he often referred to her as Qing-jie, but hadn’t known the sentiment was returned.
“And I own the building in which you are currently trespassing,” Uncle Four added.
Where he was normally a jovial and friendly man, his expression was serious and bordering on unwelcoming. Apparently Lan Qiren had made quite the impression on him.
Lan Qiren sniffed disdainfully, but finally focused on A-Zhan.
“The board has decided Xichen’s… indiscretions make him unfit to head the company. You have been appointed in his place. You will, of course, be expected to take the Lan name again, as will the child you’ve adopted. I’ve taken the liberty of securing housing for you, and I suppose we can find a place in the company for your husband, on a provisionary basis, of course.”
Dead silence followed his pronouncement, and Wei Ying felt dizzy with the presumption of all of this—A-Zhan was being ordered back to Gusu Lan Tech as though this wasn’t the first they’d seen or heard from Lan Qiren in over five years, clearly expected to obey without question.
“Provisionary?” A-Zhan murmured, his voice icy with what Wei Ying recognized as fury.
He squeezed A-Zhan’s hand, silently asking that he not be angry on his behalf. After all, he expected nothing but this treatment from Lan Qiren, so he wasn’t surprised to receive it.
“He’ll be expected to prove himself, of course.”
“He already has,” Wen Qing cut in. “He’s been an asset to Dafan Applications since the day we hired him, paramount to our success.”
Lan Qiren sniffed dismissively.
“Yes, well, his previous stint of employment at Gusu Lan Tech left much to be desired.”
A-Zhan’s jaw clenched. Wei Ying’s stomach roiled, remembering the constant criticism he’d faced there, how ultimately he wondered why they’d even agreed to hire him.
“I will not subject my husband to further abuse at the hands of the company that attempted to ruin his career.”
To his surprise, Lan Qiren looked satisfied by that statement.
“Then we’ll arrange for your move. You’ll be expected to dress more professionally in the future, as the representative of the company.”
He eyed A-Zhan’s hat and clothing with distaste.
Wei Ying stole a glance at Xichen, who looked haggard and drained and was barely listening to the conversation, and felt empathy for his situation. Xichen had always treated him kindly, until he went no-contact after A-Zhan’s resignation, something he was likely ordered to do. Even so, he also sought to warn them of what had happened, and had informed A-Zhan of Lan Qiren’s intentions. And he had stood fast against the board’s desire to have him prosecuted.
And now the man he had been set to marry is in prison, having brought Nie Innovations to its knees and attempted the same with Gusu Lan Tech, and what happiness he’d been looking forward to was just so much smoke.
“You misunderstand,” A-Zhan said. “I do not intend to relocate, or take on the Lan name, or chair Gusu Lan Tech. I will continue to work at Dafan and live in my apartment with my husband and our son. I will remain Wei Zhan.”
Lan Qiren looked shocked, almost as though he had been physically slapped, and then the anger returned.
“You leave me no choice. It will be a simple matter to buy out Dafan,” he said.
Wen Qing laughed at the threat.
“Dafan Applications is a worker cooperative. You have no power.”
For the first time he’d known him, Lan Qiren seemed incapable of words. After all, it meant that he and A-Zhan were part owners of Dafan, as all employees were, something he would never offer at Gusu Lan. Wei Ying privately hoped he was having an internal fit over the socialism of worker cooperatives.
A-Zhan, however, had plenty to say.
“You disrupted our Saturday after five years of silence to demand I change my life to suit your whims,” A-Zhan said coldly. “You didn’t even have the grace to apologize to Wei Ying, whose life and career you tried to destroy.”
Lan Qiren’s expression turned stormy.
“You chose this ill-bred miscreant over your family, and you expect me to apologize to him?”
“No,” A-Zhan said. “I chose the truth. I chose love. A-Ying is my family.”
“You,” Lan Qiren snarled, turning his attention to Wei Ying. “This rebellion is all your influence! A-Zhan was filial until you came along!”
Wei Ying stayed silent. His anxiety spiked but was soothed by A-Zhan’s hand in his, in the feeling of his fingers entwined. Lan Qiren could do nothing to them—he’d already tried, and they’d ultimately come out stronger. They’d built a life and found new family.
There was so much he could say, but he knew better than to think Lan Qiren would listen; he was a convenient scapegoat, and nothing would convince him otherwise.
“Have you nothing to say, you ingrate?” Lan Qiren demanded.
A-Zhan tensed, but Wei Ying squeezed his hand.
“I see no point in speaking to you,” he said honestly.
“You dare!”
Lan Qiren stood, quivering with rage.
“You broke our family as completely as you broke the Jiangs, and you have the gall to sit there smirking, enjoying the mess you’ve made!”
Mention of the Jiangs hurt—it had been weeks and only A-Li had reached out, but she had never broken contact to begin with.
Wen Qing slapped the table and stood, startling them.
“I’ve heard quite enough. You can’t bully your estranged nephew into uprooting the life he built after you alienated him, so you go after A-Ying again. You act the victim, but you drove A-Zhan away with your unmerited vitriol toward A-Ying.”
Uncle Four stood as well. He was a calm man, but Wei Ying could see him tremble—in anger or nervousness, he didn’t know.
“You are not welcome here, Lan Qiren. Leave or you will be removed.”
“And given that you attempted to poach two of our best employees and threatened our company, you can tell your board that Dafan Applications will never do business with Gusu Lan Tech,” Wen Qing added.
Wei Ying knew her level of petty and wondered if their new apps would unexpectedly glitch on Gusu Lan products in the future. Probably not, since she was focused on user experience.
Maybe he was the one feeling petty, but he doubted anyone who mattered would judge him for it.
“Clearly attempting to reason with any of you is an exercise in futility,” Lan Qiren said.
It took far too much energy to suppress a nearly-hysterical giggle building in Wei Ying’s chest at his complete lack of self awareness.
“Come, Xichen. We’re done here.”
A-Zhan bristled further, glancing at Wei Ying with a question in his eyes, and he nodded. Xichen deserved to know he still had family.
“Xiongzhang may stay for dinner, if he wishes,” A-Zhan said. “Our son would love to meet his bobo.”
A tiny smile lit up Xichen’s features, and Wei Ying got the impression it was the first time he’d smiled since his fiancé’s arrest.
“I would be honored to,” he said softly.
His voice was hoarse, as though he was no longer used to speaking, or was overcome with emotion. It could easily be both.
“Thank you, didi.”
Lan Qiren scoffed, and Wen Qing pointed at the door, raising an eyebrow. When he stomped out, she and Uncle Four followed him to escort him from the premises, leaving the three of them alone.
“Were you offered another position in the company?” A-Zhan asked after a moment of uncomfortable silence.
Xichen shook his head, the fleeting smile gone.
“No. Uncle believes I need time to reflect on my mistakes.”
Wei Ying didn’t hold back a scoff, given that Lan Qiren had referred to him as A-Zhan’s mistake.
“You didn’t make any mistakes. You had no way of knowing.”
The smile Xichen offers is wrong, bitter.
“I should have done more. Instead of letting them scapegoat you, I should have insisted on a full investigation. Maybe we would have uncovered the truth and protected you. Maybe we could have prevented the damage to Nie Innovations and Mingjue’s health, too.”
He had forgotten that Xichen and Mingjue were friends somehow. Wei Ying wanted to tell him the guilt he carried was a burden that shouldn’t be his, but he also knew from struggling with his own that it was something Xichen would need to come to terms with himself.
“You should reach out to him,” A-Zhan said, looking at Wei Ying like he knew what he was thinking. “I doubt he blames you, and perhaps he could use the help.”
Xichen looked torn on the idea. Wei Ying could almost see the thoughts running through his head—that he would be unwelcome, a burden on his friend, but that it was a way to do penance for the sins he believed he’d committed.
“I’ll think about it,” he finally said.
Wei Ying walked around the table and patted his shoulder, gesturing to the other door, the one that led to the interior of the building. A-Zhan had offered an olive branch with the invitation, and this was his.
“Come on. Popo is cooking, and Auntie Three made baozi for the whole building. And A-Yuan is waiting.”
The smile returned, a little stronger this time, and Wei Ying smiled back as Xichen levered out of his seat to follow them home.
-------------
Jin Zixun’s background is maybe based on a very well-known “journalist” who just constantly looks confused and outraged. To narrow it down, John Oliver did a segment on him recently. Uh, and maybe slightly on two other conspiracy theorists who pretend at journalism, one of whom keeps getting sued.
Also, I am old enough to text in full sentences most of the time. I had some friends check over Wei Ying’s panic texts so hopefully they’re believable.
This was difficult to write because of the anxiety Wei Ying was feeling and the uncomfortable conversations.
Also, I forgot the Nie company name and had to check—I couldn’t remember if it was Nie Innovations or Nie Industries. Turns out I accidentally used both in the first fic in the series. Fixed it now.
I maybe spent too much time researching worker cooperatives and employee-owned companies. It’s not a major part of this fic, but I thought it was a cool detail to bring in.
The title is, again, from the Li Bai poem.

Atsumu, Akaashi, and Iwaizumi w/ a Kindergarten Teacher S/O
Atsumu, Akaashi, and Iwaizumi x reader - headcanons
request: “i just read your fic ab the reader being a kindergarten teacher and i LOVED IT. do you think we can get another one but with atsumu, akaashi, and iwa? 🥺 I LOVE YOUU AND YOUR WRITING AHHH”
a/n: ahh my laptop has my asks jacked up rn, so sorry @parkersvibes !! but i had the exact request copied down! this is a part 2 to this post :)) really hope you like it and thank u for being so uber sweet, i love this hc💕💕
warnings: none!
wc: 1040

Atsumu:
okay please don’t be surprised by this - Atsumu doesn’t exactly like kids
he’s currently dealing w/ an ongoing children’s volleyball introductory camp that his team was forced to run and he is horrified
ends up making several of them cry, which totally turned him off to the whole “kids” thing
however, he also had the chance to meet you at that camp
he noticed how gentle you were around them, helping them up when they fell, praising them for their “hard work”
he lacked that softness. the comforting, encouraging kind…
so before he even realizes it, he’s walked up to you and started flirting (it’s second nature for this boy at this point)
“What’s a cutie like you...” He’ll look you up and down, “doin’ round here?” He tilts his head, a smirk forming on his lips
“I dunno? Maybe I’m here to cheer up all the crying kids you keep sending to me?” You reply sassily
you’re just... annoyed? the stupid face he’s making after messing with these poor kids is pissing you off
Atsumu wasn’t expecting any sass from you, but since then he’s been pining after you at every break and scheming for new ways to catch your attention
it turns out, you’re the kindergarten teacher for a majority of the little one’s attending and you signed up to chaperone and support them over the next couple of weeks
like, he has no capacity for their complaints and misunderstandings of a sport since he’s been playing professionally for years now
you’re officially an angel in his eyes
not only are you drop-dead gorgeous, but you can also #1 understand what they’re saying?? And #2 you genuinely care about them, their feelings (trivial or not,) and their experience at the camp
he’ll definitely ask you out after the camp is over
you turn him down twice lmao
but the third time!! he doesn’t use any lines or sensual approaches, he’s just chill about it
he’ll ask if you want to go roller skating… so you’re finally just like
“What the hell, why not.”
i mean he is cute and funny, so what could go wrong?
he ended up acknowledging that he sucks at dealing with kids and that he’d try to be gentler around them…
like if he’s actually willing to work on being “okay” with kids, that really means something, bc wow they bother him sometimes
he just adores you, bby
Akaashi:
i imagine that he’d also be a kindergarten teacher at your school
he was quiet for a long time, preferring to observe you and his new coworkers over time, but over the years y’all have gotten super close
there’s now a daily rhythm between you two:
you both meet up in the morning and put on a pot of coffee in the breakroom
he’ll meet your tired eyes with his own. the dark circles make it apparent that y’all are still waking up
you’ll send each other knowing, goofy smiles bc your sleep schedules are so wrecked right now, especially since it’s almost time for the holidays
the schools required art projects are getting out of hand and all the teachers are kinda pissed about it
but instead of complaining, Akaashi will suggest you both go shopping for materials and plan ideas together
it seems like a perfectly normal suggestion, bc you’re teachers and this would be more “efficient”, right? totally not an excuse to hangout w/ you
you’re in for such a treat
he comes to pick you up that Saturday, a coffee ready for you in his hand (he remembered the exact way you make it in the classroom)
also, he’s got this great scarf and jacket combination going on (like this: here)
sorry but not really, this totally turns into a date and you both completely forget about the supplies you were supposed to buy
like, yeah you’ll make it to the store, but he’ll ask you if you’re hungry (which you are) and suddenly he’s taking you to the ramen shop you mentioned weeks ago while on your lunch break
at some point, he’ll have you laughing about some story about a kid from class who keeps acting up
you’ll end up falling out of your chair from laughing so hard and he’ll start laughing at you
while you’re both still snickering, he crouches down to the ground and asks you to this with him again next Saturday
you’re so down (literally)
y’all are the cutest teacher couple. ever.
Iwaizumi:
i see Iwa as being a young, single dad in this situation ✨✨✨
you first meet at the beginning of the school year for a parent-teacher conference and it actually goes so smoothly
he brings his adorable baby girl (your new student), her hair in pigtails, and she’s grabbing onto daddy Iwaizumi’s leg
you first introduce yourself to the girl and then give Iwa a bright smile
i mean, as a teacher, you do your best to be professional and polite, but you can’t help but ask him about himself and crack a few jokes
he and his daughter deem you precious, immediately.
Iwaizumi is so protective of his shy, little girl, but he finds himself very comfortable with letting you teach and watch over her
he definitely finds you on facebook when he gets home and realizes y’all have mutual friends
so instead of just adding you as a friend, like a normal person, he decides to message your mutuals and devise something to meet you in person
what can I say? the dude hasn’t been in the dating field for awhile, so he’s not sure what he’s doing right now
basically you get set up for a one sided blind date (oop)
you find yourself waiting at an ice cream shop for a guy with short, dark-brown hair, an athletic build, and gorgeous brown eyes
but what they didn’t tell you was that he would be bringing a little someone along with him
at first, you just see his little girl waving to you
you stand up, giving her a big hug when she runs up to you
then you look up
oh… OH
Iwaizumi matches that description to a T.
y’all spend the rest of the day skipping (mostly just Iwa’s daughter though) around town and holding hands
so yeah, you’re dating your kindergarten student’s father now
and he’s really sweet and really hot

“Ready?”
Monday came quickly honestly. Probably the constant overthinking during the whole Sunday and Monday morning distracted you pretty well.
And here you are now.
Fresh out of the shower, with your robe around your body staring at Anna in front of your door who was ready to ‘glam you up’.
“I don’t know, I think I’m gonna puke if we’re being honest.” You spoke, exhaling the air from your lungs.
“It’s totally normal to feel like that! That means you like him.” She winked, marching to your bedroom.
“Well I do like him and that’s why I’m worried. What if I mess everything up? I’m so awkward you know that.” You began to panic, chewing on your bottom lip nervously.
“Just be yourself, he is already smitten. Believe me, what could go wrong?”
Maybe the truth about Tom, I don’t know.
“You’re right, but I’m still sweating and I feel sick.”
“Can’t wait for you to return from the date and say to me ‘oh I was so stupid for worrying it was amazing Ann I love him!’” She mocked you, laughing along with you.
“I really hope that will be the end product after tonight’s date.”
“Harrison is a really great guy, you will have the best night with him I’m sure.”
Your mouth curved into a smile at the thought of him.
At the thought of his blue eyes and his contagious laugh that was ringing in your ears since Saturday.
Maybe he really is the one for you?
If only Tom didn’t come that night at your apartment, everything would be fine.
The thoughts were eating you up, but you tried to remain calm.
“Just remember Tom’s words. Maybe this deal won’t last that long.” You said to yourself.
“So what are we doing for tonight?” Anna spoke resting her arms on the chair, looking at your reflection in the mirror.
“Nothing extra, keep it casual.” You replied, not wanting to look like you’re going to a red carpet.
“Keep it casual got it.”
“Did you spoke with Tom yesterday?” She asked curiously, making your heart skip a beat when she mentioned his name.
You were trying your best not to react.
“No, he didn’t call me. Why, did something happen?” You asked, trying to look worried.
“No, no. Just asking I thought that he maybe apologized or something, but it seems he is still acting like a total douche.”
You kind of forgot the scene from the party, Harrison being on your mind practically every second.
But now that she reminded you, you were pissed. He could at least call and say a stupid ‘sorry’, however he was too proud. Tom would never admit he was wrong even when it was a small, unimportant thing.
“You know he is like that when he is around a girl that he wants to shag, but still I don’t approve that, I mean we’re his friends.” You responded.
“That’s absolutely right. Gosh I don’t know how could someone sleep with him? I know he is hot and all that but c’mon Tom just thinks with his thing down there and that’s disgusting.” She spoke bitterly while your face turned red.
You don’t know a thing Anna, but you’re definitely right about that.
He just knows how to make a girl say yes straight away, that’s the problem.
“U-uh yes, I agree.” Your voice coming out as a whisper.
“Let’s not ruin our night with him, we love him although he is like that so it’s not important. Did our prince charming say where you two are going?” She changed the subject, focusing on your hair that was the last thing that needed to be done.
“Didn’t drop a single clue, he just said he will pick me up at seven.” You chuckled, glancing at the clock.
Thirty minutes and he will be here.
-
“Oh shit he is outside.” You whisper yelled, heart almost jumping out of your chest.
“Listen. Don’t worry, just relax and be yourself. Harrison is fantastic and not a pompous dick like others.” She put her palms on your shoulders giving them an encouraging squeeze.
You closed your eyes, inhaling deeply to calm your nerves.
“Thank you so much Ann, I owe you big times. I will call you when I come home or you can stay here and make yourself comfortable whatever you want.” You said, hugging her tightly.
“Thanks for the offer but I will go home, and I will be waiting for your call. And you miss have fun.” She smiled like a proud mother, hugging you back.
Your hands were shaking, and your stomach lurched when you saw him leaned on his black car waiting for you.
You both immediately smiled at each other.
Harrison was as nervous as you were. He spent his whole day rambling to Harry that tried his best not to laugh at his friend who was totally excited to see the girl that couldn’t leave his head the whole weekend.
He was finally ready to find a girl. Someone who will be here even when things went downhill.
“Good evening gorgeous.” Harrison greeted, flashing you a broad smile.
“Well good evening to you too handsome.” You greeted him back, standing now in front of him with a shy smile plastered on your face.
“You look stunning tonight love.” He half whispered, with his eyes still on yours.
“Thank you, so do you.”
“Ready to hop in?” He asked, opening the door for you.
“Of course, how could I not be with a gentleman like you by my side?” You flirted shamelessly, making him laugh.
“Eager to know where I’m taking you?” He asked, starting a conversation.
Your eyes were glued on the road and everything around trying to guess where you were heading to.
“Definitely, hope you’re not gonna kill me or something already.”
“Too much criminal series love.” He chuckled at your response.
“And I would still want the place to remain a surprise, but don’t worry nothing will happen.” He added.
“It better not Harrison I trust you.” You continued to joke, enjoying the rest of the drive.
-
“And we’re here beautiful.” He parked his car, opening the door for you again.
Holy fuck.
The view was mesmerizing. It was like a hill, with a view on the whole city that was glowing now.
Your whole face lit up, not only because he was creative and didn’t take you to a classic restaurant on the first date but because you had such a great person next to you to enjoy the breathtaking view with.
“This is truly stupendous Harrison..Gosh.” You were so dumbfounded at the sight that you didn’t feel the warmth of his body behind you.
“I’m so glad you like it, I wanted to take you somewhere special the first time.” He spoke into your ear, sending shivers down your spine.
“I appreciate that a lot, and you really left me speechless here.” You giggled, turning your face to his.
Harrison put a lot of effort in this, wanting to show you how much he fancied you.
This wasn’t just an ordinary place that he googled up or something.
This was Harrison’s special place ever since he was twelve. He would often come here when he needed some time for himself or when he wanted to sit and relax looking at the whole town that was in a rush as always.
The place was unique in Harrison’s life. His gut told him he could trust you and that this was a brilliant timing to share it with you.
He hoped maybe it will be your special place by the end of the night, because he was sure you were the girl that will change his life.
“It’s actually my secret place or whatever they call it nowadays.” His eyes lit up looking at the two most beautiful sights in front of him.
“Oh no sorry, now I ruined the whole secret place thing for you.” You grabbed his hand, feeling bad in some kind of way.
“Don’t be silly love, if I thought you weren’t noteworthy I wouldn’t share it with you.” His fingers stroked your skin carefully, making your heartbeat go wild at the feeling of his gentle touch.
“Happy to hear that you think I’m that special.” You whispered, noticing the small blanket positioned on the grass behind him.
“C’mon let’s sit and enjoy the real magic from here.” His hand took yours, rubbing his thumb against your palm.
-
“So you study English Literature?” He asked, pouring the sparkling wine in your glass.
He sure planned this all well, and you weren’t complaining. In fact you loved it so much that you could sit like this forever. Just you and him.
“That’s right. Does it sound that boring?” You asked, the nervousness now long gone.
“Absolutely not! Mr. Phillips must be your favourite professor I assume?” He rose his eyebrow asking sarcastically.
“Are you like in my class or something because that would be awkward as hell. And no c’mon he is a total ass.”
“If I was with you in the same class I would definitely ask a beauty like you out a long time ago, don’t worry. My sister is taking his classes, she started her first year so you know heard some stuff.” He chuckled, sipping his wine.
“I’m sorry for her, he can be an idiot towards students but that shouldn’t discourage her at all.”
“Totally, every college has someone like that.” He added, receiving a nod from you.
You two were talking like you knew each other your whole life and that was something you craved for a long time.
Harrison couldn’t keep his eyes the whole night away from you.
It was something about your irresistible smile and how your head would fall back when you laughed that got him love-struck.
He really liked you and your sweet soul that was full of tenderness.
That was something he could never find in someone ever since Emily.
“Tired?” He gave you a half-smile when he felt your head resting on his shoulder.
“No, just loving this atmosphere and your presence. I could do this every day for the rest of my life if you ask me.” You said softly.
Harrison thought that this was the perfect timing to wrap his arm around your waist, caressing it carefully.
He was sure he wanted to kiss in you that exact moment. Even though he was distracted by his heart that was a beating mess and by his sweaty palms, he couldn’t wait more. He reminded himself if he waited and didn’t speak to you that night nothing of this would happen, so what could go wrong now?
He didn’t want it to be forced, it should be memorable for the both of you.
What’s the point if he doesn’t show you how much he liked you through the kiss?
So his hands leisurely traveled to your arm and shoulder. Your skin was landscaped with goosebumps, and you were sure he could see how your cheeks turned red although it was dark.
You relaxed in his hands, leaning your face into his neck inhaling his scent.
The grin on his face was growing bigger when he felt your body on his, he would trade anything just to be always like this with you from now on.
His fingertips brushed the skin of your hot cheek while his eyes were admiring your body that was illuminated by the moonlight.
Eventually his large palm cupped your cheek, bringing you close to his face.
His nose bumped into yours, his eyes now focused on your sparkling ones.
“Is this okay?” He asked for consent.
“Yes.” You whispered back, wrapping your hand around his wrist.
“God you’re so beautiful.” His lips were ghosting over yours, still testing the waters.
Harrison was exhilarated at that moment, closing the small space between your lips. They were moving against yours delicately. He could taste the sweet wine from your lips mixing with the taste of your cherry chapstick and it was a combination that he will always associate with you.
Your heart fluttered, and the only thing you could think is how his lips were soft against yours.
Harrison would break the kiss, opening his eyes to ensure himself that you were real and that this wasn’t a figment of his imagination before pulling you in for another short innocent kiss.
You both stayed close to each other after the intimate moment, with Harrison’s thumb still on your cheek.
“I really like you Y/N, I want to be around you more.” He spoke in your ear, nothing but the truth.
“And I like you more, hopefully this will be something more.” You responded truthfully as well.
“Thanks for the wonderful evening love, and thank you for giving me a chance to finally find and enjoy the time with someone as pretty as you, inside and out.”
“No, thank you for everything. You were the first who showed some love and interest for who I really am, not just for some fun.” Your voice getting smaller when you said the last part.
“Love, if someone doesn’t see your true beauty behind that graceful face, he doesn’t deserve a single look from you, let alone something more.”
Oh how right you were Harrison, you don’t even know.
You were a grinning mess after his statement, the only thanks you could give him was a small peck.
-
The car stopped in front of your apartment, silence now filling the space in his car.
His hand rested on top of yours through the whole ride back to the apartment.
Harrison was beaming, glancing every now and then at you, memorising every feature of yours.
“Here we are.”
There was just a little bit of sadness that could be heard in his voice, because the night was over and he was already missing you in his embrace.
“Thank you for this beautiful night. You really made it special.” You spoke once again, caressing his hand that you refused to let go.
“Please love, I already said what I really mean. You are a wonderful person and no one could prove me wrong.”
“You Y/N made this night one of my favourites and thank you for that.” He admitted, kissing you passionately.
This one was a much longer and caring. The kiss was like a perfect match and it made you smile during it.
“Thank you.” You murmured as he pulled away.
“I’m going to call you love, I can’t wait to see you again.”
“Not if I call you first.” You answered.
“I won’t complain.”
“Have a good night beautiful.” He added, pecking your lips.
“And you as well handsome.”
It was like you forgot how to walk when you stepped out of his car. Harrison’s vehicle not leaving the driveway until he was sure you entered the house safely.
The smile on your face was genuine and the whole night was repeating in your head non-stop.
It occupied your mind so much that you didn’t even notice the light being turned on in the living room.
Until a loud groan finally caught your attention.
“Who’s there?” Your voice trembling.
“Fuck, just me.” A male voice responded, mumbling the words.
Just me?
“Are you normal? How did you even enter the apartment?” You relaxed immediately when your eyes landed on a half drunk Tom.
“Key behind the flowerpot, not a brilliant hiding place if you ask me.” He laughed while his eyes remained closed.
“Yeah..right, forgot about that. What do you want?” You spitted, clearly annoyed at the realisation that you will probably not spend the night alone.
“Gotta see my favourite girl, but looks like she was busy.” Tom slurred, resting his hands on the back of his head.
“Tom if you’re drunk you can crash on the couch.” You stated, making your way to your bedroom.
“C’mon babe, wanted to spend the night with you.” He rushed next to you, grabbing your waist.
“Thought you didn’t do that.”
“I meant as friends love, but I can always make an exception for you.” Tom whispered as the smell of the strong alcohol hit your nostrils.
“Are you going to talk to me and say why are you here or?” You tried again.
“I was with Sophie today ya know. It kinda went well I guess? Or not? Because she said I’m gonna regret that decision and that tone but hey I don’t care at least her annoying ass is out of my face.” He smiled, receiving an eye roll from you.
“I told you to talk politely, now she is going to get all crazy.”
“I was polite! But she just doesn’t understand what it means I don’t want anything with you. That’s the problem.”
“Okay, you have a point here, she can get pretty hard to handle.” You believed his words knowing she was a special case.
“Thank you. Also I came to apologize for my behaviour.” Tom added, mumbling the last words.
“Oh really? Why?” You crossed your arms, waiting for him to speak.
“Because I was tipsy, and that was a shit move, you know I didn’t mean that.”
“It was.” Your mouth set in a hard line.
“I’m sorry love okay?”
“You’re forgiven, apologize to Ann as well.” You weren’t in a mood for a fight, and he at least said sorry so all good.
“Not happy to see me love?” He turned his attention to you, squeezing your hips.
“I’m tired Tom, but I appreciate your apology and everything, feel free to take the couch.”
“Where were you that late on a weeknight anyways?” Tom asked curiously, eyeing your body and how pretty you looked tonight.
“On a date.”
Date?
Oh yes Harrison.
That dolled up for him?
Why does he even care about that, you two were nothing?
“Looks like you had fun. Tell me more.”
“You really won’t let me sleep tonight am I right?” You asked, trying your best not to smile but he was making it so hard already.
“Nah, let’s make ourselves comfortable on the couch and spend the night like that hm?” He smirked, pulling you back into the living room.
“Why can’t I say no to you? You need to stop that.”
It was so hard, switching thoughts about two boys every minute. One second it was Harrison only and then Tom just shows up out of nowhere and makes everything go wild inside of you.
You didn’t want to lose Tom nor Harrison.
However you were aware that someone in the end will get heartbroken no matter what, and that was your main concern.
