🎀 Kyra is not twisted / based on a specific character, but she is just the embodiment of the kind of person i aspire to be! Free, positive, and full of love! Basically a ball of blazing chaos and love, with a lust for life.

🎀 I gave her some typical Disney Princess characteristics (the talking to animals, ethereal beauty, ykyk) just because i thought it’d be funny paired with her personality!

🎀 Kyra’s name means “Shiny” in Japanese, but it can mean “Lord”, “Princess” or “Lady” in other languages!

🎀 Kyra’s last name, “Lovelace”, originates from the word “Lawless” or “Outlaw”! Which honestly fits her and her attitude perfectly, as well as how cute it sounds despite its meaning lol

💔 (Self) Toxic Positivity : Anyone who knows Kyra knows just how positive she is. But, what they don’t know is how deeply imbedded it is in herself. Although Kyra always speaks about how important it is to allow yourself to express your emotions, be it anger or sadness, she encourages others to express themselves.

But that does not go for herself. For some reason, she refuses to ever show any sign of “negative” emotions in herself.

Toxic positivity is a "pressure to stay upbeat no matter how dire one's circumstance is", which may prevent emotional coping by feeling otherwise natural emotions. Toxic positivity happens when people believe that negative thoughts about anything should be avoided. Even in response to events which normally would evoke sadness, such as loss or hardships, positivity is encouraged as a means to cope, but tends to overlook and dismiss true expression.

Instead of properly coping when faced with overwhelming, negative emotions, she instead chooses to ignore it entirely. She jokes about it, and pretends it doesn’t exist. All of these pent up emotions keep on layering on eachother, yet she continues to bottle it all up until she explodes.

Ever since they both caught a glimpse of eachother, there was always this strange feeling of familiarity. As if they’ve met before, somewhere… Perhaps once upon a dream? (Nah, jk. Opening scene ref!!! She took his hand teehee)

They’re canonically soulmates. Eachothers compliment, theres no one on land nor under the sea that could ever be as in sync with Floyd as Kyra is. They just… Click. Their hearts beat in the same pattern, and they’re always on the same page. Well, even when they aren’t and they argue, they can never stay mad at eachother for too long.

Remember what I said about Kyra being naturally very touchy? Yeah, this is a whole new level. Kyra has no problems showering Floyd in kisses and affection, both physically and verbally, even if they are in public. She doesn’t see how it could be seen wrong, after all they are just the best of friends !! Shes just really comfortable with him, thats all.

In fact, she gets cuteness aggression from him! Thinks that hes the cutest thing ever, and she just cant help but swoon and coo at him, squish his cheeks and pepper his face with kisses!

Floyd doesn’t mind at all! And returns the favor! Of course, there are times where he isn’t in the mood, and Kyra is more than understanding. But no matter how upset or angry Floyd gets, he could never be at Kyra. He’ll come to her grumbling about whatever hes annoyed about and melt into her arms, and she’ll listen while carressing his hair and humming along.

Its hard not to assume the two are dating, when Kyra runs into his arms at match speed once hes in view, and he picks her up n’ spins her around like they didn’t just see eachother earlier in the morning. Hard not to assume they’re dating when Kyra tells him ‘I love you!’ So shamelessly in public.

Hard not to assume things when Floyd is so obviously, ridiculously soft around her. Absolutely smitten, you can practically see his heart eyes, paired with that lopsided, dopey grin. Not to mention the way his mood seems to do a total 180 and cheering right up when Kyra is around! He could never get bored with her, even when they’re doing nothing but laying in bed together in silence. Everything they do, in his opinion, as long as theyre together, then its fun.

She loves him dearly as her big brother, and wants to help him get his motivation back!!! (Has absolutely tricked him into doing his own homework by pretending it was hers.)

Though he won’t admit it, he sees her as a little sister and somehow takes pride in knowing she knows she can depend on him.

The best of friends ! Late night walks where Malleus— or, Hornton, talks about gargoyles and Kyra listens, and talks about whatever comes to mind. Kyra always invites Hornton to Ramshackle for a little hangout, and she enjoys playfully bullying and bantering with him. Malleus finds it amusing how ‘brave’ she is, and plays along. What a funny little human!

Who could be a better friend than Kyra? She was practically meant for this! Platonic soulmates?? I think yes!!!!!!

They exchange random little facts, Malleus talking about gargoyles n’ architecture while Kyra talks about mythology from her world! (“He… Ate his own children…?” “Haha, yeah.”)

ok this has kinda like always been how i interpreted things and then i looked literally anywhere else where people are talking about dog sees god and all the summaries are like pigpen and charlie brown and peppermint patty and marcie are COOL and POPULAR and BULLY the UNDERLING that is SCHROEDER. and that just like. doesnt feel right? like narratively that feels incorrect so im going to explain this now.

first ok. so this is also like a completely separate pet peeve of mine but the text literally never says that cb and matt play football like literally every single fucking source everywhere says. like matts page on the villains wiki says one of his hobbies is playing football and like. no???? they never???? say that????? like ok. we know their school HAS a football team (beethoven mentions it in the vipers nest) and we know cb and matt play SOME sport (matt mentions that they "shower together after practice" in the hangover) but the connection is never explicitly drawn between the two. in FACT beethovens line about the football team (below)

were coming back to beethoven now the thing is that hes in the exact same boat as everyone else. while we do know that its not just the main cast that are outwardly homophobic ("i only got called a queer 3 times ^_^!") it is consistently shown that the main perpetrators are the main cast, much more so than anyone else. beethoven posits that the only reason cb only got called queer is because everyones scared hell beat them up, but i do think its worth considering that the main cast are the only ones who would ever enact actual violence. beethoven is in the same situation, but moreso by force than by choice. hes forced to relive reminders of traumatic childhood events and forced to cling to the past BECAUSE the people that target him used to be his friends. theres a reason they were the only people in peer counseling.

like i said, there is a certain tragedy that comes with dsg being a peanuts parody. its because of the referential comedy that bert royal created a cast of characters so self centered and so hung up on the past that theyre still extremely fixated on the kinds of people they were and the drama they had and their feelings about eachother from when they were literally fucking 8 years old. and isnt that jsut so much more thematically interesting than "oohh popular kid bully gay unpopular kid ooohhhh" theyre all unreliable narrators!!!!!!!! theyre all sick freaks and everyone knows it!!!!!!!! there is no possible justification for their actions, theyre hypocrites plain and simple.

it's "amalgamate" by doctorhaifisch !! and it is good so far yeah! really elaborate answer under the cut, i went on about this for longer than i shouldve. sorry. ill take any opportunity to ramble about v3. :']

based on the hits and the amount of fanart ive seen of it, it seems everyone and their mother has read it... however ive been purposely living under a 2 bedroom rock for like 4 years so ive only gotten around to it now after seeing an artist i follow say it made them reconsider a few things about ouma and it made them like kaito and realize how intelligent he is and how fascinating his role in chapter 5 was— and i was like wow, that must be a based fucking fic! it took me years to see kaito more than just a loud guy with a savior complex, and now that im a huge fan of him, i wanted to see what kind of fic could open someone's eyes to his awesomeness.

i check it out *really* skeptically, mainly cause i dont trust most people's depiction of ouma. they either make him genuinely not give a shit about things and just be a terrible person for no reason, or they make him too emo in a way he simply isnt. the main reason i even gave it a shot despite never having read a v3 fic in the 6 yrs ive been a fan, is that it said that the tags say the whole fic could be interpreted platonically (#AROWIN) (god knows im not against oumota but i prefer them as friends by a really substantial amount) and the amount of research the author seemed to have poured into strike 9 poison and its real world pesticide counterpart. the art they attached to chapter 1 was really good, too, so that made me curious.

now im in chapter 10/20 and i can say with confidence ive been having a great time. its plenty obvious the author has a lot of love for all of the characters, and even though i thought i could gain no new opinions since i already love ouma and kaito's potential dynamic and everything to do with chapter 5, i ended up being very pleasantly suprised by himiko's depiction here! i cant say im too big of a fan of her, not due to any actual fault in her character but rather kodaka's failings to do anything actually interesting with her. in chapter 9, this author used her untapped potential in a really heartwarming way that i loved. similarly, i have enjoyed seeing their portrayal of kaito and ouma, and it seems there's going to be an arc for ouma to begin seeing his classmates not only as people whose lives are worth saving as much as any other, but to see them as friends and letting them become close with him. ive always been a firm believer that in a non-kg setting ouma could become super close friends with a small handful of people, but this fic is making me reconsider that— maybe its more! another thing im really enjoying are all the fascinating possibilities that the author is exploring for a world in which ouma lives to see chapter 6 and the consequences of his actions. him being there while people investigate his room? most amusing. its all stuff that happens in chapter 5 and 6 until a certain point— just enough to get these two chumps to live, and then... well, i guess ill see how chapter 6 turns out, but as of right now ive been super intrigued and entretained.

i do also have a couple of complaints, but theyre mostly pet peeves and no deal breakers so far: there have been a loooot of pop culture referenced but they all feel in line with stuff kodaka would write so whatever, the author uses italics way more than id like... in the chapters up until 9 there were constant descriptions of kaito seeing ouma as a Kid, and while that in an of itself is true (he is a 17 yr old) the context began feeling a little infantalizing and like kaito himself wasnt 17 as well. theres noticeably less of this in chapter 9 and what ive read of 10, or when theres references to them being kids it includes everyone and theres even a moment where kaito tells ouma theyre the same damn age lol. theres also been a bunch of moments that are clearly very indulgent of ship dynamics and inclinations im not too fond of (particularly between ouma and shuichi) but like i said, nothings been too much of a dealbreaker since the positives far outweigh the negatives!

im currently on a trip where i dont have signal most of the time so i got the epub of the fic to read on the downtime. im def gonna keep reading it, and im excited to see where its going despite some of the cheesy lines such as

i mean, really, it's such a good depiction of ouma. all his masks, his paranoia, his insecurities, his determination to stop the killing game, the way hes been helping the group while simultaneously remaining isolated, and the way his lies are an extension of his genius but also a constant tool to test his peers. i feel like i dont get to see all of these elements of him expanded upon so extensively like this fic does, and that alone makes me really respect what the author is doing! the word count may be scary but i think youd get something from the fic even if you only read like 5-6 chapters. so yeah in conclusion id recommend it if you give a shit about v3 and are interested in chapter 5 fix it fics LOL

yk, it kind of annoys me when people rag on shinso for "coasting through life with his quirk". like, there are plenty of other valid criticisms of his character in canon (though admittedly i love his fanon characterization a lot bc of my own biases) but that one always gets under my skin. because that's,,, something basically every canon character does? if you have a quirk, youre going to use it, and the metric for which people use to identify a character as "relying on their quirk too much" seem inconsistent at best. even our very own main character midoriya starts relying on his quirk for everything basically as soon as he can use it without hurting himself, and we stop getting those fun moments where he gets to show his intelligence and creativity nearly as often as theyre replaced with "who can punch harder" contests.

also people who claim shinso did no physical training before the entrance exam, or before aizawa picked him up. because as far as im aware,,, thats never stated in canon? i think people are assuming that if he did any physical training, he would've automatically gotten into the hero course, but that's just not true. even if he trained as hard as he physically could, its gonna be basically impossible for a 15 year old who doesnt have a quirk that gives them an advantage to win against enough robots to pass... which is the literal point of the test. and before anyone brings up hagakure or ojiro, ojiro has an extra limb which canonically helps with his destructive power (he uses his tail to destroy things his punches/kicks couldnt multiple times) and professional martial arts training that shinso clearly doesnt have based on how he flailed during his fight with midoriya, and hagakure is invisible so she can easily sneak up on the robots and take the time to find their weaknesses without being attacked. clear advantages.

and even if he did absolutely no combat training, that could easily be a result of the whole quirk-centric society brainwashing everyone that their quirk makes them who they are. that they have to rely on it, and use it as their guide on who/what to become. so the fact that people are so quick to chalk it up to stupidity and arrogance, when it could easily be just a teenager who isnt immune to propaganda being bitter (and admittedly cruel, like i said not a fan of his canon characterization) when he tries to do something good with his "evil" quirk and it doesnt work, or hell any number of hundreds of other explanations, annoys me a bit. (i realize this is probably coming off as more of an angry rant than im intending, but im not actually that upset about it, im just trying to communicate my thoughts clearly.) ultimately, i dont think we have enough info on shinso's character to decide things like that, you know? and i dont think its productive to just decide that one interpretation of the very limited information we have on his thoughts and actions is the canon one, and then bash/praise him for that interpretation.

i think that's also why tagging things as OOC isnt really done anymore unless its egregious, because there are so many interpretations of characters that are close enough to canon that that version of them can be argued, and a lot of times the person who holds that interpretation is truly convinced that version in their heads is canon, to the point that anyone saying it isnt is automatically deemed an idiot who can't read. so its easy to say "people should tag more things as OOC", but it takes a lot to be aware that how you read a character may not be what is actually displayed in the text or what the author intended, and a lot of people only think about how they read the story due to their own biases or creativeness or pet peeves, not the literal reading of the text. its especially hard in manga, when drawings of facial expressions can sometimes be argued to display a number of emotions, thoughts, etc.

and that one post where someone said that shinso would die immediately if he had to fight someone with a weapon, when he wasnt trained, and they were genetically physically immune to his quirk?? like, yeah, obviously??? so would anyone! these hypotheticals are meaningless, because you could easily say "well, what is hagakure had to fight someone with a gun who had heat vision on day one, she'd probably die" or any other random character and scenario. it means nothing, especially since shinso was actively training to get into a school where he would be trained to both use his quirk and what to do when he cant use it. just saying "well he wasnt good at fighting before he got in" is a terrible argument. i agree with a lot of the rest of the post, but that one part baffled and irritated me.

I think Hitoshi’s biggest flaw is that the world building around him sucks. Had he been shown to train and still failed and had we actually been showed that he’s been bullied, his anger would’ve been justified or at least understandable/sympathetic. Instead we have… nothing, which makes him seem like he’s throwing a temper tantrum and/or comes off as entitled. On paper, he’s not a bad character whatsoever, and the same goes for Shota. The main issue with both characters comes from how they’re executed and how they mesh with the world they’re in.

ok hold on now that im thinking about it im gonna ramble some more about theater related things

disclaimer disclaimer despite feeling a bit awkward at times and nervous because everyone else has already been in other shows together and is friends with each other vs me not really knowing anyone everyone still has been nice and the director and stage manager are sweethearts and the lead actor is very cool and talented and its been a better experience than my last show and i certainly dont have any issues where people are being nasty to me like i did with my last production but ok the thing im thinking about is ok. im going to the opening night of this other play tonight right. because this is another play our theater company is putting on right. the way this theater works is that generally two plays are like kind of around the same time where one is being performed and the other one is still in the early to mid rehersal stages but its all the same theater company right and some of my castmates are in this show and we all get in free since we are actors and part of the company right and its good to support your castmates with their hard work on their other production its a lot of work to be doing two plays at once

and anyway there was this time where. ok one thing about me is i blend into the background when im offstage and it is very common for me to overhear things people dont necessarily mean for me to hear or want me to hear for better or for worse. so there was a time recently where i was offstage waiting for my time to go in and these two people start talking about this other play theyre in. and they just start absolutely trashing a girl whos in it with them who i realize is another castmate in the production im in and she just wasnt needed at rehersal that day so she wasnt there to hear them but the way they were talking about her was just so cruel and i moved away at one point because it just felt really gross and i had half a mind to speak up and say something but it was like at the time i didnt know who they were talking about so its not like i could be like hey dont talk badly about her or thinking its none of my business.

but it still bothers me specifically because these people were being so elitist and putting this girl down saying "oh shes trying so hard but shes just not good. she just isnt good!" and i think the director of that play is also kind of weird or making weird decisions but thats not the actors fault if the director is demanding they perform in a weird way. and it really just boiled down to these two people (who btw are twice the age of me and the other girl) were just like... asserting that theyre sooooo good and that theyre so skilled and know the play better and that if it were them theyd do it this way etc etc while just being so nasty and cruel to this poor girl who they admitted is very obviously trying her best and putting a lot of effort. frankly i am more impressed by and rooting for someone who may not have as much experience or skill but is putting a lot of effort and heart into their performance over someone whos got a lot of experience yes but is going to just treat their cast mates like shit like this lmao. i lost my train of thought but oh no wait there it is

its like a pet peeve of mine when people in theater think they know your role better than you do or know better than the director does and tries to like upstage you or says well i could do that role better or i wouldve done it this way. like ok but you arent doing the role. you arent the director. a theatrical production is supposed to be a group effort were all supposed to be working TOGETHER to tell a story and create an experience and get across a specific message and atmosphere to the audience and i hate how often people seem to forget that and want to be like WELL I COULD DO THAT BETTER and to be clear you may be thinking but kes you have said you could out act certain hollywood actors and thats diffwrent because im not a fucking cast mate of those rich and famous actors who barely are able to have a good meaningful deep performance because they got their roles through money and connections and being conventionally attracvtive. its different yknow.

and in the end it makes me sad. it just makes me sad to know that the issues that i have with the usa acting and theater industry are still within a smaller scale community theater. i genuinely think community art spaces are so incredibly important i wouldnt be alive if it hadnt been for community theater and its a disservice to be letting people be so fucking snobbish and elitist and cruel like yes i take our community theater productions seriously and we all put a lot of effort andnheart into it ajd ive seen some really moving and impactful amazing performances done by small community theater groups but also this is not fucking broadway you do not have to be so back stabbing and cruel and you dont have to act like you have some kind of heirarchy ladder to climb, both of these things can be true

also as a note for example like. i dont really agree with some of the acting choices the person im understudying for is making. but thats really just because we are very different people and every performer is going to do things differently! i dont think theyre a bad actor in any way and i can clearly see theyre putting a lot of thought and effort into their performance. and in the end even if i dont agree with how theyre doing it thats not my decision, its the directors decision for how she wants the character to come across so that the story can be cohesive. plus our director knows more about this play than any of us she literally did her thesis on it. but anyway what im saying is that you can not agree with your castmates acting choice while not being a fucking asshole about it

Yeah i feel the exact same way. I think in part it's because 1) DID is very misunderstood online in general and 2) it seems fun and quirky to have anime-guys-in-your-head disease but they don't realize that it's not just that. It's dissociation, it's severe trauma, it's flashbacks.

Headcanoning a character as a system isn't just designing their alters it's saying "this character had trauma as a small child that was so intense their brain had to lock it away by not integrating parts of themself as a last-ditch survival mechanism".

You're right, it absolutely does feel incredibly fetishizey when people just HC as systems willy-nilly without realizing the full implications of what they're saying and how it's not the same as like...an autism headcanon. It's a trauma disorder with way more shit going on than just alters. It's a major pet peeve of mine actually lmao

Also something I've noticed is that the alters people design never seem to follow actual DID patterns? You never see a persecutor or a gatekeeper or nonhuman alters, just ANPs and littles and maybe protectors. Just the "cute" stuff.

As much as i love dadmight and izuson hugs, i feel like alot of American creators forget that physical affection/touching, especially in public, is uncommon ( and often seen as immature) in japan. Most people dont hug or touch or kiss in a public setting ( except for the occational hand holding) so seeing it super often portrayed in comics seems idk... Unrealistic. Its a minor pet peeve at best but it also comes across untrue to the setting.

I think most people tend to ignore that simply because they want All Might and Deku to have a more natural father-son relationship, without worrying about keeping it to themselves? But yes, it isn’t as popular over in Japan, it’s usually something to do behind closed doors- and even then, the two would have to be really close to do that, like really see each other as father-son.

I do think All Might has to remind himself at times about that, granted he grew up in Japan, but spending so much time in America- where we’re more hands on- I think he really craved the physical affection of another person. This doesn’t necessarily mean a partner, it can simply be platonic. But because he’s lived alone most of his life, he’s most likely not used to the touch. It probably makes him nervous at first, like it’s not supposed to be happening, but then he realizes over time how much comes to crave that pat on his back when he does something good, the knuckle punches the locals teach him, even the hugs from Dave when Toshi’s gone and made Dave think he died fighting a villain.

Remembering that he has to be back to how things were before, I’m sure it does make him disappointed, but at the same time it’s all he’s known for so long. Of anyone he’s probably the most “touchy” person, but he tries to keep a handle on himself. I’m sure Deku wouldn’t mind if their culture was different, and he wasn’t so starstruck yet hah.

trollhunters: rott and overall toa thoughts

decided to write down what i think of the movie and the series as a whole after watching rott

toby domzalski

first of all, i am so unspeakably sad that toby remained a comedy relief character until it was time for him to die. i really hoped he would get his time to shine but not like this. the death scene was definitely amazingly done and im glad that at the very least rott had a scene that showed the audience just how important tody’s friendship was to jim.

on that note tho, im sad that no one seemed to realize that toby was gone??? it was only after jim realized what happened that he was the first to desperately search for him. i get that toby has the strongest ties to jim but??? claire??? AAARRRGGHH??? they were also close with toby but even after seeing him take the car they didnt immediately shift their focus to him after finding jim???

i really wished we got more serious moments with him through all the toa series. i feel like after trollhunters (although he was also a comic relief there, but id say there was more to him back then), he became the designated comic relief and it makes him such a 2-dimensional character.

jim lake jr

jim is one of my favorite protagonists ever in any show, so seeing him struggle through all the series was always an emotional rollercoaster. i appreciate what rott was going for, the “he doesnt need the armor/amulet, hes always been a hero” sentiment but... the movie gives him the amulet back in the same scene in which he says it. i was severely disappointed when it happened, im not gonna lie. the scene would have been way more impactful if jim defeated bellroc by himself when they were stripped out of magic, instead of suddenly getting a power-up and besting her in combat. if jim didnt get the amulet right then the message of “i always was a hero, with the amulet or without” would have actually hit way harder. we see jim struggle about being just human and lacking the power to hold his own ground in a fight through the whole movie and him suddenly besting bellroc with the amulet is just. underwhelming. i think he should have gotten the amulet after the fight, so we still could have the whole time travel shenanigans thing happen, but def not when he got it. 

and on the topic of the time travel, what the fuck did they do to jim. like????? hello????? this. in Not. the same jim lake jr who went into the darklands all by himself so his friends wouldnt get killed/hurt. this is Not the same jim who refused to burden his mother with what he had to deal with as a trollhunter. the fact that he makes a concious choice to have toby pick up the trollhunter amulet????? is so out of character for him???? especially since he experienced all the struggles, the hurt, the trauma himself. i Refuse to believe he would ever have his best friend relive the hell he has been through all those years. especially since only He has the knowledge of the past??? how does he think this is going to play out??

not to mention that, by having the amulet choose toby, it means that the whole fate/destiny aspect of jim being chosen is out of the window. i didnt like how much the series leaned into it already, because im not a fan of stories which support the concept of “destiny/fate” but that ending really just confirm that jim was never the chosen one, he was just lucky to get the amulet first, because it could have been literally anyone. and im not trying to say that toby would not be a great trollhunter himself, i just mean that if toby can also be chosen instead of jim, the whole speech about destiny is kind of a lie.

claire nuñez

this isn’t really a criticism about her character, but more of how she has been treated by the narrative. im glad that claire gets to do more in this movie and that she keeps an active role (despite being spent in critical points to prevent her from solving problems). i really wish claire was more than Just jims love interest once they got together tho. i wish she was first and foremost his friend instead of his girlfriend, although that might be just my personal pet peeve of narratives putting romantic relationships above platonic ones. i felt it was really a shame that her wish for jim was to “find her and try until she falls in love with him again”. like i get that it was a sweet scene and sentiment overall but all i could think of was shouldnt she be freaking out that her friends and family are possibly dead because of the destruction of the whole town??? she could have been helping people evacuate and then join the fight.

the steve palchuk problem

ive seen a lot of people talk about this, but yeah the mpreg plot was really unnecessary. its really weird and it made me very uncomfortable considering both aja and steve are like. supposedly 18? in rott. this whole plot point not only feels like it takes up time that could have been better spent, but it also kinda portrays aja as a really bad partner to steve. like. you’re telling me she never really told him how this works??? like, ignoring how stupid and arbitrary the 7th kiss thing is, considering that she knows how kissing works for humans, she Should have told him about the possible consequences of it. i get that she was on akiridion-5 but is there really no way for her to communicate with him, considering that krel stayed on earth??? i dont remember if there was any communication mentioned, but if it was, that makes aja even worse in this context, honestly. they did my girl so dirty.

(on a quick note tho, i do like how aja was reluctant to follow jim. she’s a queen now and her priority will always be the safety of people surrounding her so her sentiment of “you can do the risky thing But my ships are still showing up either way” was really nice and i actually liked that she kinda went against jim and questioned him.)

with the mpreg steve plotline also comes the fact that eli is barely in this movie. we literally only get to see him to see that he has a growth spurt and then to have him deliver the babies. i really wish we could have gotten more about eli himself, maybe see how his relationship with aja developed into a friendship??? or the good old eli-steve friendship after a long time of being apart.

anticlimactic deaths/losses

nomura’s death scene was so fast and we didn’t even really linger on its impact, which honestly was. really disappointing. strickler was also done really dirty by being killed off nearly immediately after the reveal of his engagement with barbara. at the very least we got a scene of the lakes mourning him.

nari’s death served a purpose. they sacrificed herself to kill skrael. i did like how much it impacted douxie, but after the deaths, the characters are not really mentioned again until the very end when jim decides to time travel.

archie being left behind felt kind of forced and i wish he stayed in the story if only so douxie didnt have to lose two people close to him on the same day. we also never mention him again which... okay.

this is the finale... where is everyone, what is happening

is barbara just stranded in the castle now??? where is nana?? the changeling babies??? notenrique and claire’s family??? the trolls from the troll market??? this whole movie just felt rushed, honestly. we never were told how barbara and strickler got to the castle and we never even got to witness them see jim in the human form for the first time too. i honestly think this movie should have just been a series. it has enough action to stretch it out and we could have had more scenes that were about finishing arcs for characters and lingering on the consequences of certain deaths. its not a bad movie in itself, but it does not feel like a proper finale to the toa series, especially with the last 5 minutes of rott. im kind of disappointed, but at the same time we p much got an open ending so everyone can go wild with their interpretations/speculations.

Little rambly rant

One of my biggest pet peeves has got to be when people call me "lazy" just because my work process looks different than theirs. Like...taking more time to do things, and taking my time with decisions. To me, I'm doing the job right, but for some reason some people would rather I just jump the gun or do it faster.

I take longer to process things than the average, and i have actual numbers backing me up with that. So taking a little extra time to work on something just means I'm going to do it more thoroughly. If i rush myself, there will be errors or I'll want to change things later and switch things and that'll annoy them too.

Basically to these people, taking longer to decide or complete work = Laziness, but on my end its- actually the opposite. Rushing things would be laziness.

Twelve Moons and a Fortnight wrap-up Q & A!

1. Hi Stilton! I love you and TMAAF! The way you write the letters really feels organic and like people writing letters to other people in a time where communication wasn't instantaneous and thats a pet peeve I have with some fics that treat letters like text. I don't know if you've been asked this but what's your inspiration for the letters? Did you just make them up as they are? Did you look at old letters and studied the tone? @iwillbetrash4eva

I made the letters up as they are, but it was essential for me to keep in mind that the characters are all highly educated, and that Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, and Nie Huaisang in particular are very accomplished in the arts. Letters written by someone who composes music and poetry in their spare time aren’t going to be the same as emails and text messages written for the sake of raw information transfer, so I made sure to incorporate that into the letters; they’re written on pretty paper, usually in the sender’s best calligraphy, and it takes time to sit down and write them, so there’s an aspect of aesthetic reflection there that we rarely notice in modern communication.

I also felt that the characters would include snapshots of their lives and feelings while writing; this was more important with Wei Wuxian, since he throws himself so deeply into his daily life, but I also had to remember how important the past is to all of the characters and how enmeshed it is with their relevant current events. Ultimately, each letter serves as an extra look into the characters’ state of mind, which is something the narrative might not give us. 

2. What was your favorite scene in TMAAF, and which OC was the most fun to write? @keela1221

My favorite scene was Wei Wuxian’s departure from Lotus Pier in chapter 46, especially the part when everyone chased after him! I planned it several months in advance (sometime last summer, I think?) so finally getting to write it felt amazing.

Surprisingly, my favorite original characters to write (besides the main additions of Xiao-Yu, Yu Zhenhong, and Li Shuai) were the Jiang juniors. They love their Wei-zongzhu so much ;~;

3. What made you think of writing this fic? And would you consider a special epilogue because I don't think 50 chapters were nearly enough for me.❤ @avezevin

I think I just wanted to speculate about what cultivation politics might have been like after Jin Guangyao died, and TMAAF was born! And I most likely will be posting an epilogue, since I realized that the Zhenqing wedding works best as a coda instead of as a fic of its own.

4. what's your research process for tmaaf? the worldbuilding is so detailed!!

I read posts on tradition and culture and use them as sources if the chance ever comes along. A significant portion of the lore was entirely made up, but @light8828 helped me with some of the language, and offered so much guidance on cultivation worldbuilding <3

5. I really like the way you write the dynamic between Wei ying and lan zhan with their kids in all your stories. Xiao-Yu is a very lovable character and his relationship with his parents is something I go back to read many times. What do you use as inspiration when writing his, or any of his siblings, relationship with their parents?

Real life, I guess. Some of my older friends have recently had children, and they’re very good parents. :3

6. Where will you be going with the series? I need to prepare myself for heartbreak if the end is approaching, (its ok if you dont know tho! Idk is an optimistic answer, its just that you seem to have many things plotting away in that brain of yours)

Up next, I’m going to finish all the fics in the series that are still in progress, and then I’m going to write Lan Xichen’s fic, maybe a fic from Wen Qing’s point of view, a fic focusing on a reincarnated Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, and a fic from Jin Yun’s POV focusing on his relationship with LXC and the latter’s death and ascension. This doesn’t count all the fluffy wangxian oneshots still bubbling on the back burner, so I expect this series to keep me busy well into 2022. *sweats*

7. TMAAF Q&A: when did you decide you were bringing wen qing back? what led you to making her return a result of the soul-summoning array, rather than having her have survived by some other method? @mischief7manager

I decided that Wen Qing would be returning sometime between chapters 12 and 15, since that was when I knew I wanted her to be the one to cure Wei Wuxian. And as much as I liked the idea of Wen Qing surviving, I didn’t want her to be imprisoned for the 16-year interim; it was important that she appear in TMAAF as she was before her death rather than having over a decade of character development off-screen. But she wasn’t a fierce corpse that could just be put to sleep for all that time, hence the soul-summoning.

8. For the Q&A: Stilton, how did you come up with such an adorable perfect little child like Xiao-Yu?? You write him so well it really does seem like it’s a child talking!! @whereisyourcahier​

He’s partly based on a real baby I know. :P It might sound impossible, but he’s even cuter than Xiao-Yu is.

9. Thank you for doing this Q&A! Was Xiao Yu always part of the story? (Ilhim so much!!)

He was! I always wanted Wangxian to experience parenthood together, so Xiao-Yu’s entry was planned long before he actually appeared in the fic.

10. how did you deal with any writers block that came up?

By reading comments!! I have all of you to thank for that <3<3!!!!!!

11. What was the process for plotting each arc of tmaaf? & when did you decide on what the storyline was going to be? Did you know when you started or did you incorporate stuff as you wrote?

I hashed out the whole plot at once sometime last May, and that was when I laid down the rough storyline. The overall plot was finalized by the time chapter 18 went up, though I did add further details as I went along. In particular, the mini-arc of Wei Wuxian investigating the Yangshuo plague was mostly written on the fly.

12. how long have you been planning the wen qing lang xiyan reveal? has it been something set in stone from the start?

I’ve been planning it since last April, though the exact circumstances weren’t clear until around August or September. Originally, Jiang Cheng was going to ask “Lang Xiyan” to marry him after her mourning period was over, only for her to reveal herself as Wen Qing before accepting, but I soon realized that this wouldn’t fit either of their characters. Wen Ning recognizing her was the only way the reveal made sense (both emotionally and logically) so I had to find a reason to bring him to Yunmeng at exactly the right time.

13. I just want to ask two little things (well three). Where we will be able to read the wedding of baby Zizhen and A-Qing? Will there be Chengqing? And with the last question, if it's yes, will you write a one shot, drabble or something like that?? 🥺🥺🥺

I’m going to post a 51st chapter to TMAAF with the Zhenqing wedding as an epilogue, and Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing are married by then! Wen Qing will most likely be getting a fic of her own, focusing on the time between her revival and her engagement to Jiang Cheng.

14. I just finished reading your fic and let me tell you it's one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to read :) For someone who wants to start writing, how did you start the story? Did you wrote everything with a little scheme or you just leave your brain to work in the document?

I wasn’t planning to write fic for MDZS/CQL at all, and then I randomly ended up outlining, drafting, and posting the first chapter of TMAAF within the span of around two hours. When starting a story, I think it works best for me to just let my brain work in the document without worrying too much about how it might turn out--outlines and schemes tend to come later, after I’ve gotten a feel for how the characters act and laid down some dead-basic worldbuilding.

If you’re just starting out, make sure you’re having fun and that everything you write is as self-indulgent as possible! Enjoying the process is the most important thing, worrying about all the specifics can come later. <3

the actual love story/blurb:

growing up, you attended the same school as eijiro and ashido-- you and ashido tagged along together on your way to elementary school, and made sure that you were catching up on your classes together. you and ashido always hung around together, sometimes joking around and other times you two’d randomly spill your whole life story.

 eijiro kirishima wasn’t exactly an enemy-- more like someone you never really figured out how to get close with. you always saw him standing still and having an existential life crisis in his head, and you honestly didn’t know what to do. eventually, while walking home, you can across shoto todoroki-- who was sitting behind a tree at one of the parks-- you had never even seen him once. 

“where are you from? isn’t your home really far from here?” 

todoroki just stared up at you, not saying much as you sat down beside him. that was the day that he got burned and ran as fast as he could from home. from that day on, you two stuck around every day after school.

that was, until he stopped showing up. completely. 

he ghosted you right away, when you needed him most, and realized a sudden pattern: you always helped so many people, but no one ever really helped you back. you gave and gave but never got anything in return. but of course, you thought your dreams as a hero were much bigger-- so when you attended ua a few years later as a third year, and met him again, you felt nothing more than bitterness. so of course, being you, you told him. it didn’t matter that you two were in the same class. you went up to him and spilled everything-- he had promised to stay with you and simply left. without a trace. the person you thought who would never leave you left you, and that hurt. 

todoroki stared, dumbfounded at your pained but angry expression that shifted the move completely, before ducking his head and leaving. did he really just do that? not even say a single word?

angry and frustrated, you ran outside from your house before the sun rose in the sky, and decided to head over to a local open-24-hours store for some sort of snack.

what you didn’t expect was seeing a boy, around your age, standing with hair dye in his hands. “todoroki? what are you doing here-?” he turned around-- that was definitely, not shoto todoroki-- but he had his eyes. the boy turned around. “hey.”

it was as if time was rewinding itself and things were happening all over again. dabi stared as you two started hanging around whenever you possibly could at any free moment, before he told you about the league of villains. it was a lot to take in at once, sure, but he seemed trustworthy and... a bit misunderstood at that. you had a chance in front of you.

so, you took it.

Lesson Learned - Colby Brock

A/N: Requested by a lovely anon: “Can you write something reflecting on how Colby said he gets mad when people leave and dont tell him. Perhaps he gets mad at y/n or Sam for leaving and doing their own thing and he doesnt realize he's being clingy till the friend group calls him out on it.”

Colby was grumpy. Not only had he woken up without you next to him, but you left without telling him. Not that you had to have his permission, of course, but he’d like to know where you were going, so he knew that you were safe. He frowned. It sounded worse when he really thought about it, but it had always been a big pet peeve of his. Even with Sam. He had a serious case of FOMO, and he loved you- he just wanted to be included. 

Perhaps it stemmed from being left out of things in high school, but he didn’t want to think about those times. Those times were some of the darkest of his entire life. He shook his head, trying to brush those thoughts out of his mind. He was living his best life; he had amazing friends, a career that he always dreamed of, and the best girlfriend he could’ve ever asked for. Things were great now. 

Except for the teeny-tiny fact of that he had no idea where the fuck you were. There was, however, a simple solution. He picked up his phone and called you. You answered, breathless and giggly. Your voice had a wave of calm washing over him, almost a sedative effect. “Hi, bubs!” Your voice was bright, chipper. “What’s up?” 

“Where are you?” Colby asked, a slight edge to his voice. You blinked, startled. “I went out to breakfast with Tara,” You replied, scrunching your face up slightly. Colby let out a soft scoff. “And you didn’t think to invite me?” He asked, his voice terse. There was no way that you could brush it off as a joke, and your own temper began to rise at the tone of his voice. “Well, Tara and I have had this planned all week,” You tried to reason with him. Tara raised an eyebrow at the tense set of your jaw. You shook your head at her. She scrunched her brows together, confused. 

“And I wasn’t allowed to come?” Colby demanded. You inhaled sharply, then rolled your eyes. “Jake isn’t here,” You told him, gritting your teeth. “It was sort of just a girls thing.” Colby scoffed again, and you felt your temper finally flare out. “What is your problem?” You asked, your voice sharp. “Did you call just to start a fight? Ruin my day out with my friend?” Tara’s jaw dropped. It wasn’t often that you and Colby fought. Seeing it, hearing it, was strange. 

Colby’s heart thudded in his chest and he frowned unhappily. No, that hadn’t been his intention. “Of course not!” Colby protested. “I hate fighting with you! I just wanted to be included!” You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself. “I can have a life outside of you, you know,” Your voice was still sharp, anger simmering in your voice. “I wasn’t aware that my life had to revolve around you.” 

You took another deep breath, then stabbed at your toast with your fork. “Honestly, Cole,” You sighed. The fight seemed to drain from you. “I just wanted to have a day out with my friend. I guess that was too much to ask for.” Your voice was sullen. Colby felt like vomiting. “No, that’s not it at all!” Colby tried to protest. You didn’t say anything in response. “Baby?” Colby tried. “I’m going to go. I’ll see you later.” Your voice was soft, sad. Colby hated himself for putting that sadness in your heart. “Don’t leave it like this,” Colby begged, but it was too late- you already hung up the phone. It felt like the final nail in the relationship’s coffin. 

“Yeah, I’m not gonna lie,” Sam sat back on the couch. A few minutes ago, a despondent Colby had knocked on his door, near tears. Katrina, Jake, and Corey were also there. “You’re totally in the wrong here, brother.” Colby frowned at that, his frown deepening when his friends nodded in agreement. “But-” Colby tried, but a fiery Katrina cut him off, her hazel eyes narrowing at him. “I understand wanting to do everything with her,” She gestured to Sam. “But her life shouldn’t have to revolve around you and your needs.” 

Jake nodded, his gaze sympathetic but firm. “She’s allowed to have a life outside of you, dude. She’s allowed to hang out with her friends.” Colby huddled in on himself. “I know that,” He replied, his voice small. “I just,” He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “I guess I just have FOMO. It’s always been like that,” He gestured to Sam, who nodded in agreement. “It’s not even that I think she’s going to cheat on me or anything like that.” He looked exhausted. “I just love her so much, I always want to hop onto her plans and spend as much time with her as possible.”

“Colby,” Katrina’s voice was soft, kind. “Just think about it- that’s a lot of time to spend with just one person. Eventually, you’re going to want space, even if you love them with all of your heart.” Sam nodded in agreement. “As much as I love Katrina, I can’t spend every waking moment with her. I’d go crazy.” Jake nodded. “It’s healthier to take some time away from someone.” He added. 

Colby wiped a hand over his face. “I really fucked up, didn’t I?” He asked. Jake shook his head. Corey shook his head. “No, brother,” Corey replied. “It was a minor fuck up, but it’s something you can fix.” He assured his downtrodden friend. “You really think so?” Colby asked, hope making his eyes light up. Sam nodded. “Of course,” Sam replied. “Just talk to her. Apologize, then explain yourself.”

Colby paced around the living room, anxiously waiting for you to come home. The door swung open, and you stood in the doorway, looking uncertain. “Hi,” Colby’s voice was soft, careful. “Hi.” You replied, taking a step forward. Colby’s eyes were wide, beseeching. “Can we talk?” He asked, his eyes pleading with you.

You dropped your purse onto the kitchen counter, then nodded sharply. “Yeah, I think we should.” You replied. Colby took a tentative step towards you, relieved when you met him halfway and wrapped your arms around his waist. “What was all of that about, Colbs?” You asked, your voice soft. “What happened?” 

Colby practically melted into your embrace. “I just,” Colby’s voice was small. “I’m sorry, first of all,” He cleared his throat and looked down at you. You nodded slowly. “Okay,” You replied cautiously. Colby’s mouth trembled, and he released a sigh. “I know that I’m clingy, that I always want to join in on your plans, but it’s just because I love you so fucking much, and I want to spend every moment possible with you.”

You opened your mouth to reply, but he cut you off, practically rambling nervously, hopefully. “I know that it’s not healthy to want to do that, and I promise that I’ll try and change my habits. I just have bad memories of being left out of shit in high school. I’ll try and change, because I don’t want to lose you. I can’t lose you.” 

You gently placed a hand over his mouth to cut off his rambling. “It’s okay,” Your voice was soft. “I appreciate you telling me that, for opening up to me like that. I know it’s hard for you,” You told him. Colby’s shoulders sagged in relief. “And I’m glad that you understand that we can’t spend every waking moment together. I love you so much, but sometimes, I just need me-time.” You removed your hand from his mouth, your fingers brushing tenderly against his cheek. “And you need you-time.” 

Colby nodded, understanding what you were saying. “I love you,” His voice trembled, and he offered you the softest, sweetest smile you’d ever fucking seen in your life. Your heart melted in your chest, and you beamed back at him. “And I love you, Colbs.” You replied easily, bringing a wider smile to his face. “Even when I’m being crazy?” He teased.

You rolled your eyes playfully. “You’re always crazy,” You replied, your grin widening at his mock-outraged face. “But I love you all the time, crazy.” Colby’s expression softened, and that sweet smile blossomed across his face once more. “Just like I love you all of the time.” He replied. 

He pressed his lips to the top of your head in a sweet, gentle kiss. “Are we okay?” Colby asked hopefully. You tilted your head back to look up at him. You stood on your tiptoes to press a soft kiss to his jaw. 

“We’re better than okay,” You replied, your eyes twinkling at him beautifully. “We’re magic.”

A = Affection (How affectionate are they with an s/o?)

Affectionate? More like possessive, oop. Well, Amaimon's pretty affectionate - if you consider that one of his arms is wrapped around your waist almost all the time, no matter where you are. Other than that, not really, unless you "educate" him a little bit.

B = Breath (What could their s/o do to take their breath away?)

Beat the shit out of somebody, literally. Whether this would be in your defense or someone made you angry, he's impressed in both situations. Obviously, he will help you if someone attacks you, but damn. That stupid dude that just attacked you is now lying on the ground and your knuckles are all bloody? That's hot. (insert Amaimon with binocs)

C = Cuddling (Do they cuddle? If they do, how and when do they cuddle?)

He cuddles you when he feels like it, or if you pester him enough. You can also win him over using sweets. He likes having you on his lap, your one hand playing with his hair and the other one feeding him. Now, when you feel down, he's all about spooning you and giving your neck little kisses.

D = Dream (What do they dream of doing with their s/o?)

Lazing around, feeding him and doing nothing is his dream. That's it, pretty much.

E = Effort (How much effort do they put into a relationship?)

*snorts*- He's (kinda) trying and that matters.

F = Fear (What do they do if their s/o is scared? How do they handle it?)

Amaimon gets angry. Like, really, really angry and it doesn't really matter if that's because of the storm you're scared of or a person. Depending on your emotional and physical state, he's either gonna calm down a bit or go get his hands dirty. Just imagine him hissing every time it thunders outside.

G = Gifts (What type of gifts do they give their s/o? Do they want a gift in return?)

He gives you the most beautiful flowers from all around the world, and honestly, this is so breathtaking sometimes that makes you tear up (he, on the other hand, doesn't understand why you're getting emotional; its just flowers, right?). Doesn't really want nor expects to get a gift in return, but will appreciate (in his own way) if gets one.

H = Hugs (Do they hug their s/o? How often?)

He himself hugs you when you're either injured or he hasn't seen you in a while (but hugs you back when you hug him first, anytime). Doesn't really feel the need to do it often.

I = Intimacy (How romantic are they? Do they have problems with intimacy?)

Amaimon?? Romantic?????? Explain it to him. After that, he probably won't do that anyway. Intimacy though? no problem. He's made out with you and done worse things in public, so its pretty much a normal thing for him.

J = Jealous (Do they get jealous? How do they act when jealous?)

Oh, my sweet summer child, he gets jealous a fucking lot, unless he knows that person. Hopefully you have fast reflexes, cuz otherwise if he isn't stopped he's going for murder if he's pissed off enough. Demands explanations, such as who that person/people were. If he's in a good mood, he's just gonna throw you over his shoulder and walk away.

K = Kiss (Are they a good kisser? Do they like to kiss? How often do they try to kiss you?)

Amaimon's quite a good kisser - he's gotten some experience throughout the years. Plus, he likes kissing more than hugging! His kisses are unexpected, usually when you're busy and don't notice him as much - it's his way to get your attention back too. Also, when he kisses you, one of his hands is in your hair, pulling it slightly.

L = Love (When do they say they love you? How often do they say it? Do they prefer to say or show it?)

He doesn't really say that cus he doesn't fully understand the meaning of that words; he also thinks it's "too human". Instead, he's declaring his love through actions - such as protecting you or listening to your vent (he really is a good listener, but doesn't give you any advice; he knows you're gonna make the right decision. Plus, he gives you free cuddles too.). One more thing about saying "I love you" - he will say it, but its gonna take him a lot of time to realize and convince himself that it's "the love that humans talk about" - the highest possibility is after your near-death experience.

M = Marriage (Do they want to get married? If so, what kind of ceremony?)

Doesn't care about that. He'll probably say no, cuz its too much of a hassle with paperwork. HOWEVER! He might propose himself - which, bluntly said, means some demonic shit involved. Despite that incident with Shiemi, I dont think he casually proposes to a woman he barely knows - if you say yes, it means that both your body and soul will belong to him, dead or alive.

N = Night out (What type of dates do they like to go on? How often do they like to go on them?)

Wants to go out with you almost every day, or rather night - he finds pretty spots during the day that aren't available for normal people to reach. These are usually picnics, or you both lying on the grass together, watching the stars with your personal heater.

O = Out of the Ordinary (What’s something they don’t normally do with/for their s/o?)

Amaimon reminds you every once in a while that you shouldn't mess with either Lucifer or Mephisto, cuz he sadly won't be able to save you if the situation gets ugly. One - he's aware that both of them are way more powerful than he is, and two - he wants to stay neutral as long as possible (lets ignore Mephisto for a while).

P = Playful (Are they playful in a relationship? If so, how do they play around/mess with their s/o?)

Playful, hm? He's more annoying than playful - well, unless you consider poking you to death as "playing around".

 Q = Questions (Do they ask their s/o their opinion on things? Do they share theirs?)

Amaimon asks for your opinion, but ends up doing what he originally thought. Depending on the subject, he says his own opinion either often or rarely. For example, he'll answer "why sweets X are better than Y" but if asked about his brothers' plans, he'll just shrug.

R = Random (How spontaneous is their relationship? Do they do things on the spot or plan ahead?)

Your whole relationship is spontaneous to begin with, and so is everything else. You can try to plan something ahead, but keep in mind that will probably change anyway.

S = Sleep (How do they sleep with their s/o?

He loves sleeping with you - thinks that your small and delicate form is "cute", as humans say; but it's not as pretty as it seems. He shuffles a fucking ton in his sleep, occasionally snores. You may have experienced a very ugly smack of his elbow in your face once. Or twice. But don't worry, you can smack him back, he'll think it's just an annoying bug.

T = Trust (How much do they trust their s/o?)

His trusts to you gradually grows, so with time he stops checking if you're telling him the truth or not.

U = Unique (What makes them unique as an s/o?)

He silently adores you. Like, you have something you're passionate about and you're in the middle of explaining it to him, and the way your eyes shine makes him fall in love with you more. The thing that you're never tired of showing him new things, that you're always patient with him and so on - it makes him so soft. He'll never tell you that, though.

V = Vulnerable (How long until they can be vulnerable around their s/o? What are they like in this state?)

A very, very, VERY long time, relying on his trusts to you. He's enraged, snarling, but you're the only person that's able to calm him down. Despite his furiousness, he listens to you, doesn't destroy anything. It'll take a while, but you always manage to do it.

W = Wild Card (Get a random domestic headcanon of the character of your choice)

Tends to grow some flowers and put them behind your ear. You look insanely cute while he "just thinks it fits you and you should wear that".

X = X-Ray (What would they do if their s/o got injured?)

Anger, anger, slight panic and taking you to a hospital - in that exact order.

Y = Yuck (Do they have any pet peeves about their s/o? Are there any habits that might bother their s/o?)

Please, PLEASE don't talk about his brothers (especially Mephisto - he'll get jealous) and father while being with him. That's why he isn't in Gehenna, but with you.

He's pretty passionate? or tries, at least. Whether you're passionate as hell or just like him, he's all for it.

i have my personal pet peeves so i cant say for certain about anything, and i dont want ANYONE to feel called out so i dont want to say anything specific

i think it's important that we stay respectful about the way she writes her characters and her world, because she's doing it the way she knows how. im not talking about race or sexuality because that's a whole other issue entirely, one i dont like to comment on myself. but the characters have personalities that not everybody likes, and when it goes from a character analysis to a writing analysis people tend to get very critical of shannon, saying that she wrote the characters in the wrong way or didnt do it well (and this isnt anything ive specifically seen, but a generalization of stuff ive seen over the years)

im gonna be frank, i didnt actually mean to post that thing? i did it on accident while trying to save it as a draft (i know, super smart), but i realized after it was posted that id never have better words for how i feel about the issue than those ones, because i wrote them on the fly.

really, if you're going to criticise the series, just make sure it's respectful? otherwise it's kinda like: well if you dont like the books then why are you reading them? to me, it seems like there are a lot of people who complain more than they praise. the first thing i see after each book comes out isnt what was good about it, but what they didnt like. it's important to point out those things, but it's also important to remember that reading is mostly supposed to be fun, enjoyable. when i see how many people complain about it not being good enough, the community just seems less positive, more exclusionary. suddenly i feel like im wrong for having liked the book (i dont know if anyone else feels this way, but if you do, feel free to message me! we can talk about it)
