A cold hard truth for Rise of Skywalker haters/Last Jedi lovers:
No matter what, Episode 9 was going to have to do 'something' to try and deal with what was now an extremely volatile and fractured fanbase. Lucasfilm and Disney did NOT see the backlash to TLJ coming, at least not at that scale and intensity. It was an absolute PR nightmare. The trilogy's reputation was at stake. They were going to always do some level of 'okay, let's go back to basics again and recenter this with classic Star Wars vibes' for the final film, after seeing how fans responded to TLJ.
In a world where the entire human race unanimously adored TLJ? Maybe it would have gone a bit differently. But even THEN, they also had the unexpected loss of Carrie to deal with, and that alone caused so many logistical problems for how to finish this story. No matter what, Episode 9 was going to be fighting a lot of bullshit real-life factors compromising its storytelling.
And you know what... I think the writers/director genuinely tried to make the best of the REALLY bad hand they had been dealt. They tried to make a good movie, that honored the Star Wars spirit and paid off all three trilogies, and resolved as much as they could find time for. And they tried to honor Rian's choices with TLJ while also addressing basic needs of narrative drama and how to give the characters personal problems to overcome (you know that Colin Trevorrow script that many think was better? That too was going to retcon info about Rey's backstory! That was never going to be just left-be, with TLJ as the final word on it).
One can hate how Rise of Skywalker was executed, but I think it's deplorable to accuse the people involved in making it of NOT making a genuine effort, or at worst deliberately catering to shitty people. I'm sure JJ was probably under tremendous studio pressure to do certain things plot/character/casting wise to salvage a now-deeply-unpopular trilogy, and he just had to do what he could with it.

To cope cause this week has not been a vibe, which outsiders character could you picture going through something like this?
I remember when I was really little I use to love wearing dresses and anything pink and girly. I loved to feel like a princess, but then I got a bit older and suddenly being girly was seen as silly and like weak?
The girls around me dressed more tomboyish and some of my friends closer to me would hang out with boys more and play sports. I didn't mind that of course but I felt out of place. Because it became VERY clear to me that a lot of people view being overly girly as weak or silly.
I think I internalized this HEAVILY because at a certain point I hated wearing dresses or anything overly girly. I stuck with alot of t-shirt and jeans after that and tried to act more boyish. Which backfired because then the boys thought I was weird and looked too much like a boy. And now I'm…I’m trying to get wear dresses and skirts again. But l'm scared that I separated myself from being girly and feminine to the point that I don’t know how to act like a girl again. Which kind of makes me sad, because I’m just reminded of that ten year old girl that I was who loved being girly, and wanted to look like a Disney princess.
Oh anon I wanna give you the absolute biggest big sister bear hug right now, you have no idea. I feel like this is something every little girl goes through to a point? I definitely did, I spent my whole childhood loving beatiful sparkly things, and all of middle school trying to prove I didn't. I think its part of the 'I'm not silly/shallow/foolish like other girls please take me seriously as a human' internalized misogyny thing that just about every girl goes through at some point, but it really sucks because obviously theres nothing wrong with liking feminine things and liking feminine things does not prevent women from being intelligent, full human beings deserving of respect, but shit the patriarchy goes hard and so many women have this phase. I'm so grateful that I worked to kind of unlearn that as best I could in high school because I really do love wearing dresses and doing my makeup and all my sparkly things and I was unhappy when I felt like i couldn't. Anyway, this is just a really long winded way of saying i totally understand where this is coming from, and also that being girly and liking stereotypically feminine things is not what MAKES someone a girl, and you're not failing at being one if you genuinely don't like dresses and makeup, but if you DO and you're struggling to embrace wearing them again (which it sounds like you are) that that's okay too because in time it will feel natural again, and you'll feel pretty and live your best disney princess dreams. (also if you ever need someone to hype you up or want makeup tips or anything I'm totally here for you! i ADORE fashion and playing with different styles and I have PERFECTED the bold red lip to the point its something I'm kind of known for on my uni campus, and basically I think i can help you learn to be excited about girly things again if you want to be).
ANYWAY, now i'm done yapping about that I can talk about which outsiders characters I think would struggle with this and (while I might get hate for it) I think SANDY definitely went through this phase. I see her as a character who has always felt powerless so she resorts to trying to take any power she could. As a lower class woman in the sixties, that would be hard for her to come by, so I think she'd try to reject femininity and all that womanhood entails for a while. Maybe her dad always treated her brothers better than he treated her so she always wanted to be more like them, or maybe when she struggled to make friends with the girls at school she turned to acting/dressing tomboyish to try and make friends with the boys.
Another one I could see with this same issue would be Susie Mathews. I think with a brother like Two-bit, who she loves but also sees and hears joking about and objectifying women, Susie would want to be nothing like the 'dumb blondes' her older brother is known for pursuing. I could also see her mother making comments here and there about the young women at the bar she works at so Susie might have also internalized that slut shaming mentality and dressed in more boyish attire so she wouldn't be seen as 'one of those girls'
Hope this was helpful and at least semi coherent I am running on very little sleep.
Thanks for the ask xx

🪢 KH-OC Week 2024 🪢 - Day 4 Package
Prompt: Based on Natasha's and Erika's MBTIs, which Kingdom Hearts / Disney character would they resemble the most? Do this for other teddies too if you wish.
---
NATASHA AVALENKA:
Not so much the older Xehanort, but Natasha gives off very Young Xehanort vibes. In times where she would speak to Cricket [Dinh-Yu], she can be quite cordial and welcoming, or very helpful, but she can quickly become foreboding or ominous especially if she wants to get a point across. The scene I’m reminded of is in Kingdom Hearts 3 when Young Xehanort appears to Sora and says that there is a high price to pay for misusing the power of waking. This is a stunning parallel to how Natasha gets Cricket in the past when he’s had a really nasty mood; how she tries to correct him as it were. Secretive but way more knowledgeable than people first assume, and speaks very much in riddles at times. Also like Young Xehanort, Natasha has this quite but scary confidence about her, and she says she’d rather do a lot of things by herself. Fun fact; she only got a partner later (Erika), because Young Cricket got to a ‘boiling point’ as DG. But until our hand was forced, Natasha took the job by herself for numerous weeks and did quite well. Just like how Young Xehanort kept a particular focus and managed Sora quite well in the sleeping worlds until Xemnas came at a later stage.
Fun fact; I thought Natasha was more like Ansem The Wise at the start. But as I got to weed her out a bit more, she has stark parallels to Young Xehanort.
And now that I think about it, I can envision both Natasha and Erika at the Scala ad Caelum chessboard in place of Young Xehanort and Young Eraqus.
---
ERIKA TAPALADOS:
I was trying to compare Erika to one of the female ESFJs in Kingdom Hearts, but I just couldn’t match her properly with any of them. But then I found that she may resemble Goofy in her mannerisms quite a bit. They’re both ‘people’ that we don’t really know, yet they burst forth in enthusiastic presence wherever they go and seem to make everyone feel comfortable around them almost immediately. As Erika did come a bit late, it’s hard to have a really fleshed out personality for her, in terms of how she acts around her nearest and dearest like Natasha and Young Cricket, or even her older sister Sierra. But, again, she seems to be manifesting into a ‘Goofy’ type. She’s very loyal and has started to actively lighten the mood in Young Cricket’s dwelling, just like how Goofy tries to cheer up the group, even though sometimes mistakenly at the cost of Sora. She would also be the talker of the group when it came to introducing them into social situations, or even sustaining the conversation with others. I also believe that the sisterhood between Sierra and Erika may even replicate the relationship of Sora and Goofy, even if with some slight differences (obvs no one is a carbon copy of anyone else).
---
SIERRA ZHANG (m. TAPALADOS):
I originally wasn’t going to do anyone else besides the two instructed by the prompt, but then one for Sierra was screaming at me ever since I started.
Even though Sora and Ventus are both apparently ENFP, Sierra is more like Sora, and is a female version of him all the way. She’s always laughing and even screaming at times, and she even makes for the ‘group clown’ on some occasions. When situations get extreme, she can be spun into an emotional panic or go off at others, but it’s never due to sheer anger without some kind of love or other heart-centred emotion in the background; and she’s usually always happy until she’s not. When centred, she is very wise and witty and can challenge others on their thoughts and beliefs with some sharp concepts and even curveballs.
---
Fun fact; even though Selvian is the ‘poster-boy’ for the KH trio (and EVERYTHING admin), Sierra outshines him in a social sense and is very well seen as the outgoing extrovert of the trio and the de-facto poster-girl.
Fun Fact 2: Riku is always speaking to Selvian, rarely Sierra. But when he does, he’ll respond with the same light-hearted language as if he were talking to Sora.
Extra note: Riku has become an exceptional father-figure to Selvian and Sierra (besides to me) and advocates for them and integrates them seemingly into the Kingdom Hearts world and its societies/communities. Terra appears to give intimate emotional support and inclusion, playing a more ‘motherly’ role as it were, but Riku’s more like the patriarch and chief protector under the whole umbrella. Summarily; Riku acts in the ‘darkness’, Terra acts in the ‘light’, although this is not absolute.
---
After Day 3, a realisation has set upon me that we barely know who Nasha and Sibella are, as again, they have mostly ONLY functioned in the background for the last 3 years. So a last minute decision has been made to also find a MBTI comparison for those two. And this will really put them under the microscope.
NASHA OBWANA:
When looking at Nasha, she has changed just a bit since Year 10 in 2021. Back then, I’d say she was more like Vanitas, or at least what people seem to have him head-cannoned as; as she didn’t do her homework, was very ‘lazy’, got into trouble in class, etc. She was also very cliquey and perhaps a party animal.
Ever since being put at the Land of Departure with Terra and the others, I’d say she’s cooled down slightly and is now like Demyx. There is actually a reason for this change.
Back in Year 10, Nasha didn’t want to go with Terra and was unfortunately quite nasty about it (this is where my mind was leading me with her) and let’s just passively say… Looked down on him. I don’t remember the exact event, but Nasha saw Terra get emotional and she felt bad. In that spur of the moment, she locked herself into being with him, for better or for worse.
In the KH-OC Week – Day 3 conversation, you can also see more bits of Demyx in Nasha. When she calls out and then argues with Sibella; this reminds me of the scene where Demyx and Vexen/Even are in Radiant Garden before meeting with Ienzo as they have just a slight quarrel before settling on the plan. And then when Selvian comes to interrogate the girls, I see Nasha pacifying the situation and then trying to explain things as Demyx does to Riku with the replica in the Keyblade Graveyard.
---
SIBELLA GEORGAKOPOULOS:
Despite having a Greek surname, it appears that Sibella takes more after her mum as she speaks as if she’s Spanish, Mexican or Latino and also has that appearance (if you can imagine a human version of her); not so much Greek. Like with Donald, Sibella can be quite sociable, but then she can also become quite hot-headed and impatient with others, and may come across as condescending. To me, her and Donald also seem to be quite sassy and entitled. The way Sibella spoke to Terra in that Day 3 tidbit in a way resembles how Donald would tell off Sora or Goofy, as if he knows more than them (even if he doesn’t); and like Mickey, Selvian was made to neutralise the situation even though the two ESTJs may have had good points.
I was originally seeing Sibella as a more passive and helpful ESTJ like Eraqus, and NOT when he crushed Terra. But when I was channeling them in the book, Sibella made the situation become quite nasty very fast unfortunately, and Terra was becoming less and less comfortable with defending himself. As a parallel, think as if Donald was just throwing his weight around in-front of Terra 🥲💔
Summary; can be passionately loyal, but can wreck a situation very fast if not careful.
---
Unrelated admin note: In the time between writing the Day 4 post and its release, further discoveries have been made about Terra and his current teddy partners. It's too late to reveal the decision in Day 4's post, but Terra will have a happy ending.

Loosemble one of a kind album review☆
1. Intro (A butterfly's signal) 🦋
4/10
It was cute. It's just a revamp version of searching for their friends. The train sound reminds me of flip that.
2. Girls night 🌙
9/10
It's my favorite song of the album. It's great with keeping up with the fast pace. It doesn't let up until the bridge. My complaints to why it's not a 10/10 was the "nanananna" and some parts needed more vocal stacks or vocal layering. It felt flat at some parts. They are still learning on how to a make song so I won't critize too much, it was good for a comeback and it was a song hyeju wrote. She is still trying to learn her style I bet.
3. Moonlight 🌕
7/10
I never doubted yeojin. My favorite song of their first album was colouring. I loved her parts of the songs. It was a great song after girls' night to slow down the pace. Again, the part where their vocals were stripped, it fell flat and sounded like there were mixing problems. It needed something else to make it full.
4. Boomerang 🪃
6/10
I didn't think I would like this song, mind you i don't like so what, hide&seek and oops. But it wasn't bad from what I heard from the highlight medley. I'm just bored of hearing these instrumentals being used, the hard base that carries the song. Yeojins sassy verse at 0:26 sold me and hyunjins vocals. Its kind of like baddie from Ive as well. But it's a fun song.
5. He said I said 💖
4/10
It's an okay song. After boomerang the album fell flat to me... it's not my type of song. I tried to like it but felt nothing in the first half of the song. The album does that, though the end of the song is where it gets a bit better. Maybe the high notes that hyunjin does that wins me over or the added vocals.
6. Truman show 💌
4/10
Again, it's not my type of song and this is just a slower version of he said I said. But more of an Ost soundtrack. Or a Disney soundtrack 🫤. It's alright, was hoping a faster upbeat song since girls night was the title track. I don't like the vibe too since it's trying to be emotional but their emotions in their voice are not connecting to the lyrics..
7. Starlight 🍓
5/10
This is just a mixture of he said I said and Truman show. The guitar, the cachy repeated words, and sentimental feelings mixed into one song. I was hoping they would mix things up but have the same sort of songs like girls night or moonlight but slowed down and the end didn't match with the three beginning songs...I don't mind these songs but I didn't like pale blue dot, universe, day by day and playback. They all have the same vibe to me and it's slow and boring. The vocals don't have the emotions they should have for a sentimental song. Like chuu's howl and wendy's when this rain stops is a good example of sentimental or heartfelt songs that show case good emotions. Also I'm not saying it didn't it needed more of it. Again it was falling short. Only part I like was the "every now and then yeah"
This is how I felt about the album it would be like if loosembles first comeback had a repackage and if you play day by day and reverse one of a kind album songs it would loop pretty good, kind of like loona's butterfly album repackaged. I'll give it a solid 6/10 overall. Boomerang should be showcased, I think, cause it's the only other song that sounds like a title track. But we know it won't happen. Other than that I hope they do hip-hop next like what hyeju wanted...or like the fx rum pum pum pum ☆

J-Hope releases hope in the streets
Esquire Korea Interview:
Q. How was the shoot today? Behind the lens was Mario Sorrenti.
H. He's a famous artist and photographer so I'd be lying if I said I'm not overwhelmed. It was an atmosphere and a take approach that never before he had experienced; it was cool and nice.
I think it captured aspects of j-hope that aren't normally visible, so I had a lot of fun working on this. I think I was also a bit nervous, this being my first proper advertorial content after become an ambassador for Louis Vuitton.
Q. Were you able to discover a new look for j-hope thanks to this particular collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Sorrenti?
H. I think the collab showcased j-hope's usual vibes even better, as well as cleverly evoking faces and j-hope poses you couldn't see before, across a wide range of compositions and atmospheres. I personally prefer to avoid angles that show the right side of my face.
But even those angles came out great thanks to Mr. Sorrenti's ability to capture them stylistically.
Q. Which Louis Vuitton look from today do you remember the most?
H. There was an outfit that was just as glamorous regardless of who was looking at it. The Louis Vuitton logo shined bright on this top-to-bottom denim look. I thought the look showed what is 'beautiful'.
Actually, this outfit had made the biggest impression on me during this show in Paris, so I was proud to wear it during the shoot. I felt like a human Louis Vuitton (laughs).
Q.Let's talk about your single that came out in March. There are too many things to talk about here. Your single features J. Cole. It's J Cole! Your first meeting with him was at Lollapalooza, right?
H. No. He was in my dreams (laughs) J. Cole was someone I had always wanted and met in my dreams
The first time we actually met was during Lollapalooza, that's right. It was like fate. Lollapalooza was the biggest part of promoting my solo album last year, and as fate would have it, my muse J. Cole was the headliner (of presentations). That's when it all started.
Even as I met and talked and worked with him, I couldn't believe that all of this was real.
Q. The first time they met was recorded in the Disney+ documentary, "j-hope IN THE BOX". Ever since that first scene, I was wondering if he had promised to appear in your song; the encounter seemed too fateful to be a coincidence.
H. Not at all. I think I was busy trying to convey my sincere feelings. I really wanted him to know: "You have been my muse since I was young." Once we met, I realized, “If I had to choose my dream collaborator, it would be him!” After, I concentrated on writing music, thinking only of J. Cole. Thus the song 'On the Street' was born.
Q. After that, what kind of conversations took place before this great single came out, the result of your collaboration?
H. I texted Cole with my heart. Fortunately, 'hyung' Cole came back with a positive response. I even sent him a video message at the end of the year. She had really tried very hard to convey my sincerity.
After that, while waiting for Cole's verses, there was a period of 'torture of hope', in which I endured moments of waiting and the hope that 'he will call me soon'. Just as I was about to give up, Cole's verses came through. And then a lot of things happened very quickly.
As soon as we meet at the site for filming from the music video, Cole hyung complimented me a lot on the song. I felt that he owned the whole world.
Q. Do you remember any trivial conversation between the two of you?
H. If my English had been better, we would have talked more on set. It is a pity. I expressed these feelings to Cole more actively through text messages.
He sent me a message: “I heard that you will soon start your mandatory military service. I wish you good health and I hope everything ends well". Something really trivial included a question about whether the music video for 'On theStreet' was a homage to his music video for 'Simba'.
He texted me his gratitude, saying, "That's so amazing." I also found it unbelievable that he was texting with Cole, so I wrote to his about all those feelings. It was all trivial, but when you think about it again, these were special moments whose meanings were anything but trivial.
Q. In the post-credits scenes of the Disney+ documentary, you briefly talk about 'Hope on the Street'. And the single released right after it was 'On the Street'. Everything fits exquisitely. Is there any reason you really wanted to collaborate with J. Cole on this song, which is also a fan song?
H. It all started with the question: "What is the great driving force and center of the artist? j-hope to finish Chapter 1 of his life and move on to Chapter 2?"
Finally, I remembered the fact that my roots are in dance; through dance I was introduced to music and started rapping; when I was studying rap, the the first artist I had come to like was J. Cole.
Everything seemed to fit right at the time. I looked back at the things that took up a large part of my growing up. I studied them and started to create myself again. All of this also had a huge impact on the musical direction of 'On the Street'.
Basing the song on within the lo-fi boom bap that I listened to while dancing as a child, I got down to work, thinking about the result with the participation of Cole.
I had no doubt that the enterprising lyrics and weight J. Cole possesses as an artist would make this song shine even more. In the end, it seems that the song was born to thank Cole, who gave me tremendous musical inspiration.
Q. This single can also be read in many different ways. It's fun to think of it along with 'Pandora's box'. It's like hope I would have left the world. When something fits perfectly, we say: 'That makes a story.' Everything about j-hope's journey makes a story. Since when, how and with whom did you think about all this?
H. The method of making your own plans and deciding, 'This is great, so let's do it!' It is important. However, I think I prefer a style where I personally see, feel, experience; where I pour into the work the parts that carry my heart, and continue to perfect it.
Q. The basis of his work is sincerity.
H. In this way, from the position of an artist who produces the work himself, sincerity gives the artist the dignity of speaking about the work. [After completion] the process of reflecting, learning, correcting and realizing something is different from learning what it is good at someone else's work from the beginning.
I am sure that my life and the steps I take will become my music, content and performance; that they will continue to be the driving force for organic and creative activities in the future.
This is confidential, but I think I'd rather enjoy creating stories and great images (laughs). I've been in business for a decade; Has my body absorbed the style of 'K-contents'? (laughs) I'm still embarrassed to compare myself to other big producers.
I will continue to have fun creating and will strive to show good sides of myself.
Q. Lollapalooza is the festival where Chicago grunge was born. On a stage like that, you showed tremendous presence with grunge-like arrangements. You also broke the record for the biggest ticket sales ever for Lollapalooza. How do you feel now when you think of that day? Please tell me the air, temperature and humidity of the day.
H. Festivals have that peculiar 'raw' energy that only flows through festivals. That's why I wanted to try.
I prepared myself for this without sleeping a wink; I couldn't eat well even until the day before the performance, because the pressure dominated my mind. I endured and prepared myself through this state of exhaustion and rags (laughs).
Even while working on the album, I thought: 'Ah! These songs will definitely radiate tremendous energy on stage.' I was already visualizing on stage while working on the songs. These mental images materialized during Lollapalooza.
Within this space called festival, which is still unfamiliar to me, I wanted to show people the roughness of my musicality.
I think the music on the album it blended beautifully with the features of that space. Lollapalooza really became an unforgettable moment in my musical history.
In general, I'm pretty hard on myself, but I want to praise the person I was at the time (laughs).
Q. Heard you will be releasing a physical version of (Jack in the Box) to commemorate the one year anniversary of the original album only being released digitally. How did you feel when you first saw the results and who did you show it to first?
H. I had many worries while working on (Jack in the Box). I had to go out into the world and show j-hope, so I wasn't just concerned musically, the difficulties and realizations I had experienced during the period were always on my mind.
As you can see by the music and the activities during that time, I was going through a dark period. The friend who witnessed this process, heard the record, and encouraged me was none other than RM.
RM was a great help to me mentally.
Throughout the process (ideation, creation, promotion), 'Jack in the Box' was a album that taught me great lessons. The album is like my baby. It is a job that has made me deeply realize that learning has no end. Like you said, that album is now available in physical form to commemorate their one year anniversary.
My most heartfelt messages are contained in the album.
Q. Last question. Isn't life amazing?
H. Life really is a series of incredible events.
This little boy from Gwangju debuted as a member of BTS, achieving great success, even trying activities in solo and exploring j-hope's own music.
I even became an ambassador for Louis Vuitton and I'm doing this interview with (Esquire). (laughs) I'm thankful for everything. I want to continue living an amazing life! Every time I feel it, it's so exciting!

Eeee Shauni I always look forward to your commentary! Honestly, you pick up things that I wasn't even consciously aware of, but are still somehow There and do reflect how I view the character/s in some way!
(Caution: Extensive rambling about badgers ahead)
The poses were honestly something I didn't put a lot of thought into, I just kind of drew what came naturally for each of them, but your analysis absolutely tracks with how I see them. Whenua's had a bit of a hard life in canon and virtually all of these AUs for one reason or another, but in KNPS his day job at least has some moments of peace where he can just putter around in the dark reshelving books and cataloguing books and whatnot. There's still the possibility of a Makuta attack, so he doesn't entirely let down his guard, but at the same time he's not braced for an attack and ready to run or fight during every waking moment of every day. I hadn't thought about what his closed/open stance say about him, but that absolutely tracks with how I view his character development.
In KNPS, Toa's eyes glow when they use their elemental or secondary ("mask" but not mask) powers. While Whenua's not actively using his powers here, the aqua-green colour kind of alludes to that. As a werebeast, he doesn't have access to his powers so that green colour doesn't show up there.
Ok, that's a lie. I actually just couldn't find a place for it that made sense in that image, but I sounded really clever for a moment there so I'm going to claim it was my subconscious doing A Thing and it just took the rest of my brain a little while to catch up.
I did consider giving werebeast Whenua a little green bowtie or something (his attempt at feeling somewhat like himself and looking a bit more respectable), but I've tried drawing that before and reached some unexpected complications. Depending on how stylized/realistic I draw him, a bowtie plus the suspenders can either make him look too goofy and cartoony or... if I make him too humanoid looking... what you get is, um, furry Magic Mike, basically. Sir that is a stripper outfit. Put a fucking shirt on that beast.
(Fly? I didn't intentionally draw one, but there might be a few unintended coloured specks in the image courtesy of my puppy Kevin chewing up my stylus, which hasn't quite worked the same since and keeps making unwanted dots and marks. I tried to clean them all up before posting, but I may have missed a few somewhere, My laptop being a bit old and crappy and not quite showing colours properly does not help.)
He is inherently going to look a little goofy as a werebeast with his suspenders and broken glasses, and he may or may not intentionally be going for a bit of a Beatrix Potter cottagecore critter vibe here, but... he's also the size of a small black bear, with long claws and sharp teeth and predator instincts, and woe betide any being who forgets that. In fact, having the instincts of a small animal (as opposed to a large apex predator) probably makes him potentially more dangerous, since he doesn't have the instinctive confidence of being top of the food chain, and is more likely to perceive other beings as a potential threat and react preemptively to that. The consequences of Whenua having a distorted perception of his own size and vulnerability could be potentially funny, but could also have serious consequences for anyone that triggers his fight or flight response.
The alternate werebeast expressions came about because the mouth was giving me a lot of grief in getting the expression right for the main image and I wanted to get a handle on how his face actually worked. I wanted to convey some humanlike emotion (in this case, annoyance) without cartoonifying the face too much. Avoiding stuff like this, basically:
So in a lot of disney and disneyesque art (and by extension, a lot of furry art), the animal's mouth doesn't move from the actual jaw hinge, they bring the movement to the end of the snout to make it move in a more humanlike way. There's nothing wrong with this kind of stylization, of course, but it wasn't what I was going for here and I wanted the mouth to work somewhat like an actual badger's (not sure if I entirely succeeded, but I think I'm getting there). The challenge for the main picture was showing just enough fang to remind you that this guy could mess you up if he wanted to, while still maintaining a fairly Whenua-esque expression and not making him look like a snarling mindless beast.
I did try drawing a smile. Thing is, smiling is fairly rare in nature. For most mammals, baring one's teeth is a sign of aggression. Canines, dolphins and some mustelids can make expressions we perceive as a smile, but searching for "badger smile" gives results like this...
Which is unfortunate for Whenua, since it can make him look frightening even when he's trying to be friendly!
For contrast, I did a content/peaceful expression and an actual deliberate snarl as well. I think the latter looks fairly terrifying and would make a certain werewolf think twice before trying to grab him by the throat again. Still, I could have pushed it even further if I'd wanted to...
Anatomically, his face is a little different from a real badger's. He has a higher forehead to imply there's still a somewhat humanish brain in there, and more of a chin. His ear placement hasn't changed much so he can still wear his modified glasses, though he did have to widen them across the bridge. Though looking at it now, I kind of want to tweak the stripe pattern a little to give him more black markings around the muzzle and a narrower nose stripe, which seems to be a more common colour morph.
Some Whenuas from various fan Human and human-adjacent AUs!
The first image features three versions of Whenua from @magicalgirlmascot's Kini Nui Public School AU, the second is my Toa Metru Fantasy AU /DnD AU and @bionicle-ramblings' fairy tale AU, third is Professor Whenua from my Pokemon AU idea.
Kind of an interesting exercise in bringing out different aspects of a character that relate to his canon self in different ways, a bit like refracting them through a prism. (Also an exercise in silly hair lore)
I've put a few notes in the images but as always, there are a lot of small character details so I'm curious to see what people pick up on.
Also, all of them together for size comparison:
#there's probably more i could say about the various versions if anyone's curious but i'll leave it there for now#knps au

list #3: ❛ i can’t lose you , too. ❜
this gives me matt vibes but also maybe peter vibes
your choice lol
Matt because Matt is the king of pain
Also the way this is a whole ass fic? Idk bc I liked the prompt hehe.
————
“Where is she?” Matt asks as he runs into the hospital. Foggy and Karen stand up from the lobby, rushing over to Matt who is running to every patient room to try and find you.
“Matt,” Foggy says. “I-I can’t find her,” Matt stammers, feeling dizzy. “It’s okay, Matt. She’s upstairs resting,” Karen assures him. They take Matt to you. You’re sitting in the hospital bed with your leg in a cast. But you don’t look bothered at all. In fact, you’re watching one of your favorite Disney movies while eating an ice cream sundae. You smile as you see your friends and boyfriend walk in. “Hey! I was wondering when you guys would come back!”
Karen and Foggy wave to you, while Matt tries to figure out what’s wrong with your body. “Matty,” you say, sitting up in bed. “I have a broken leg and bruised ribs, but nothing the doctor’s said can’t fix,” you say with a happy smile. Then Matt starts crying. Foggy and Karen move to comfort him, but you give them a smile and a nod, telling them that you have this handled. They leave you two alone. You reach out for Matt’s hand, pulling him closer to your bed. He sits down next to your leg. “Baby, I’m okay,” you say. He shakes his head. “N-No, you’re not. You won’t be able to walk. Which means you won’t be able to run your restaurant. And-and I don’t even know what a bruised rib means for you.”
“Baby, it’s not as bad as you think. I just can’t lift heavy things, I have to make sure I don’t bump it. No strenuous activity. Which means no sex for a while, especially with my leg. But hey, hopefully I heal fast,” you say with a grin.
Matt shakes his head, not being able to laugh. He admires your optimism. He wishes he had that, but he can’t shake the fact that he almost lost you. You’re the most important person to him. You’re the one who keeps him grounded, the one who cares and loves him no matter if he’s having a hard day or a good day. You’ve stuck by him for many years, and the thought of losing you makes him sick. He can’t believe he got close to that today.
You slip your hand into his, bringing it up to your lips to kiss his knuckles. “Matt, stop thinking whatever you are thinking and listen to me. I know what happened was scary, but I am okay. I’m really lucky I didn’t get injured worse. I know this sucks, and trust me, I’m not happy about this either, but it’s just what it is. But the important thing is is that I’m alive. I’m breathing, and honestly, I don’t feel too bad. This bruised rib will heal quickly, and the leg will take some time, but I’ll get there.”
“I know, but I —”
“Nu-uh. Do not blame yourself,” you shake your head. “You’re not allowed to.”
Matt sighs and nods, taking his glasses off to wipe his eyes. “I know you’re okay. I-I know you’re going to be okay, but I almost lost you. This just proves that you’re in danger with being with me. I have a lot of enemies and one of them almost killed you today. I… I can’t lose you, Y/n. I’ve already lost so many, I can’t lose you, too.”
You lean over and kiss him sweetly. He leans forward so you can lean back in bed, reaching his hand up to cradle the back of your head. Your hand squeezes his as you pull away. You look into his eyes, cupping his cheek. “I’m sorry to say, Matt, but you are stuck with me. I don’t care you have enemies. I don’t care if they’re after me, too. What I do care about is helping you and sticking by your side. I know it can be scary. I’m scared, honestly, but it isn’t enough for me to break up with you. We are going to get through this together. And once I feel a little better, I can help you on your little missions again.”
Matt chuckles a little bit and you smile. He’s feeling a bit better. “You in that black suit is really tempting, but I don’t want you out with me again.” You groan, “c’mon! That’s so boring!” “I know it is for you, but… please? For me? I won’t be able to think straight if I’m worried about you,” he says. “You’re always worried about me, Matt,” you chuckle. He shrugs, “well, I think you’ll be safer at home than out with me.” “Alright,” you nod. “Then I’ll stay at home but you have to wear an earpiece so I can talk to you.”
He nods, “deal.” You smile and kiss him again, pulling away and resting your forehead onto his. “I love you, Matt. You’re the best.” He shakes his head. “No, you are. You really have no idea.”

Watched Don Bluth’s Thumbelina recently cause I love fairy tales and they made a lot of changes and additions in the movie that did not happen in the original tale (cause it’s so short) that were very good ideas! They also added some weird stuff tho

Okay I was thinking about how the other charathers that Arent the great Seven would react to the NRC students in the house of mouse AU. Like i can Imagine Azul asking Ariel if She wants ti make a deal with him and Ariel Is like "lol no", or the First year see Cruella de vil at One of the tables and they are like "She look so much like Crewel that She's giving us PTSD" or kalim and Aladdin becoming buddies :D.
Well, let me put in some headcannons then:
Word goes around that some of the Great Disney villains come to visit Yuu and everyone gets jealous.
So now whenever Yuu goes to work they always get asked to have them visit their world.
So, Yuu just says, “Meh ok, you guys can visit me whenever just ask one of the Great Seven or go through the mirror in my dressing room-“
And suddenly Yuu gets someone they met from the House of Mouse ever other day. It’s literal chaos and Yuu doesn’t know if they should feel exasperated or flattered.
Anyways, here’s some interactions between the dorms and some Disney Characters:
Heartslybul: Obviously when Alice comes to visit, she comments on how Heartslybul reminds her of the Queen of Hearts’ garden. When Yuu mentions that they paint the roses red, Alice sarcastically asks, “Does the dorm leader behead people who don’t paint the roses?” “...Well, he’s more lenient now but...” “...You’re serious?”
Ace and Alice get along swimmingly, basically quick quips and a lot of teasing. Yuu regrets introducing them to each other because they know the two are going to get into some sort of trouble. Deuce also gets along with Alice, though he can get lost in Alice’s rambles in imagination.
I think Alice would get along with Trey and Cater. I mean, they both give big brother vibes (Trey more than Cater). Trey would give Alice some tarts and Alice is like, “....He’s cool.”
Cater is going to take a bunch of pictures, and Alice is very curious about the device he’s holding (I don’t think phones or the internet existed during Alice’s time so...). Cater ends up teaching Alice about the internet and phones.
Riddle...ohhh noo. Once Alice broke one of the 810 rules and Riddle lightly scolded her for it. Alice thinks most of the rules are ridiculous and while Riddle has toned down on being strict, he’ll quickly get annoyed with Alice questioning the rules. There’s rules for a reason! The dorm was founded on these rules!!
Savannaclaw: It’s Simba, obviously. He’s curious to see the dorm after his...nefarious uncle. It’s much more nicer than he expected, though he’s a little off put by the dorm’s...rowdiness.
But he’s impressed with the Magishift practices they have when Yuu showed them.
He likes Jack, right off the bat. Jack has this sense of justice that he can relate to. I think they would get along pretty well. Oh, and probably how strong and buff Jack is.
Simba is wary of Ruggie, due to him being a hyena beastmen. He has...bad memories of hyenas. His wariness is correct, since Ruggie has tried to swindle Simba and Yuu to do some of his work. Does the relationship get better? Only if Yuu makes them hang out with each other haha.
Leona reminds Simba of Scar...to a certain degree. Lazy, cunning, and has this look where it seems like he could be planning something nefarious...
Ok, maybe not that bad, but Simba is weary of Leona. He kind of expected a character similar to Scar since this is the dorm based on him but...still. It’s really odd. It’s kind of rocky, but if Cheka comes over to visit, well...it could get better.
I mean, Leona does find Cheka annoying and calls him a brat but...Simba can tell there’s no malicious desire towards Cheka, which raises Leona’s “evil people don’t interact” list. That doesn’t mean Leona’s in the clear, but he’s ok.
Octavinelle: Surprise, surprise, it’s Ariel! She comes over, human legs and all. (Don’t worry! She got them from the nicer sorcerers). She wanted to visit Yuu and see how great NRC was! They had fun, and then they went to Mostro Lounge.
Ariel is terrified of the Tweels. They give her this...off putting feeling and they’re very intimidating. She does not trust them at all. She does like how they get up close and how they speak as if she’s some poor soul waiting to be taken advantage over.
That’s also why she does not trust Azul at all. He reminds Ariel of Ursula - especially when he tries making a contract with her. Uh-uh, no way. Never again.
This leads to Ariel dubbing NRC a dangerous place for Yuu to stay at. Why doesn’t Yuu come live with her and her family back at her world? Surely it’s much more safer than here! Why, Melody already sees Yuu as a big sibling so why not just stay at the castle permanently?
Ursula fumes at the thought of her enemy trying to take Yuu away and become their parent. That’s her role, dammit!
Scarabia: Kalim invites Aladdin, actually. It’s the most funniest scenario. Yuu mentioned to Kalim about the street rat that wooed the princess and Kalim says, “:00 WE SHOULD INVITE HIM!!” Jamil sighs and facepalms.
It’s actually going great! Aladdin is kind of shocked at the big party that Kalim threw, but it was a great welcome. He’s shook that Kalim apparently trusted Aladdin enough to show him the treasury room. “It’s open for all of the dorm to use! I don’t need much of it!”
Wasn’t NRC rumored to be a villain’s school??? What is this ball of sunshine doing here???
Actually, the Scarabia duo are good in his eyes. Sure, a little rough around the edges with Kalim being a bit too naive and Jamil being more of a watching snake, but they’re better than what he expected. Aladdin gets along with them pretty well!
And then they go on a carpet ride when Kalim introduces Aladdin to his magic flying carpet.
Yuu and Jamil scream at the two of them to get down as they fly across the night sky.
Pomfiore: oh no. Oh no no no. Snow White visiting Pomfiore is like...Neige visiting.
Vil is cold to Snow White, and she knows why. She’s seen the images that Yuu had of this “Neige Leblanc”. He certainly reminds her of her younger days. Which is why she completely understands why Vil is so standoffish of her.
What she doesn’t expect is Rook singing her praises and also kind of...watching her. It’s low key creepy but Yuu says it’s normal and since he doesn’t mean any harm Snow White lets it slide. They do have a good conversation though. Snow White learns to understand Rook’s...eccentric hobbies.
Epel and Snow White go together like apples and oranges. They go pretty well together, but they have contrasting differences. They could be passed of as siblings with their cute looks, as much as Epel hates to admit it. Though I’d like to think they have this “Soft big sister with a gremlin of a little brother” dynamic. Or “Big sister that is harmless but has a badass little bother” dynamic. Just...a cool sibling dynamic, basically.
Ignihyde: Hercules comes by when he hears that a dorm was based off of Hades. He had to see what it was like. He expected the doom and gloom, but he didn’t expect all the technology.
He and Ortho go along swimmingly. I mean, he’s pretty chill around the more upbeat and cheery dorm member, at least. (Seriously, the others were such buzzkills). He also gets a good impression on Idia when Ortho affectionately talks about his big brother! Wow, so the kids here do have a heart! Unlike Hades-
Ok, so as much as Ortho talks so highly of Idia, Hercules does not see how Ortho does. I mean, Idia is a complete shut in and gloomy recluse! Why do you stick around him?! It isn’t until he speaks his mind about that comment does Ortho turn into a crazy murder machine. (“How DARE you speak of that about my brother!!”) Yuu has to save Hercules and the entire dorm before Ortho blows up the school.
So now Hercules sees how inseparable the two are and how much they care for each other, which yeah, that’s pretty cool. (Is also low key jealous, how come his half brothers weren’t like that?)
Diasomnia: Aurora visits with Maleficent. Both do not share ill will after their stories are completed. They actually do make amends. So Maleficent invited Aurora to see her grandson, and Aurora politely accepts.
They have tea with Malleus, and it is a very pleasant conversation. Aurora gets along well with Malleus, even suggesting maybe she should invite him and Maleficent to her kingdom one day. (Maybe when she gives birth to a beautiful baby. Maleficent liked that)
Lilia is also a fun one to be around! Aurora was so surprised by his scare that she had laughed. Ah, what a funny fae! Why, she hadn’t laughed this hard since...well, never. She likes Lilia and will come by if she needs a good laugh.
Poor Sebek though....he acts all uptight around Aurora because she’s a Queen and also aquatinted with Maleficent...he must be respectful to her at all costs! It takes a long time for Sebek to at least act a little casual around her. Maleficent says it’ll take some time, though Aurora isn’t sure if that time will come on her lifetime...but for the meantime, she is still happy to be around Sebek’s presence and have pleasant conversations with him.
Aurora and Silver...ok, let me say this: they got along during a sleepover. The Diasomnia gang + Maleficent and Aurora had a sleepover in the dorms to “better know each other”. I also think Aurora would feel sympathy for Silver if the conversation of him tending to fall asleep came up. Heavens knows she still has her sleepy spells even after her curse was broken.
Also- wofhenod I just imagine Aurora and Silver walking in the forest together and a bunch of animals surround them. (Yuu finds them and cries when they actually attracted a bunch of adorable puppies (or whatever animal you find cute). Cute, adorable animals that are so gentle with them that they start to cry due to stress from being at NRC (Silver and Aurora look at Yuu with concern and gently start comforting them)
Winfendien Suddenly I want a twin dynamic with Silver and Aurora. Even a sibling dynamic would be cool. Just two sleepy siblings that won’t hesitate to kick your ass.

Give the Danganronpa v1 characters Disney theme songs. 👀
Togami Byakuya - I’m Wishing/One Song ( Snow White ) ; Okay, so, this is gonna sounds weird, because these two songs are incredibly romantic, BUT! Snow White is kinda like... The OG Disney movie, and everything about it is very traditional, and I see Byakuya as a sort of traditional person too, despite how he is open-minded about technology, business and all that. Though he wouldn’t exactly be openly romantic and loving towards another, he still finds tradition important and would appreciate Snow White as a good movie and for having good songs.
Owada Mondo - On My Way ( Brother Bear ) ; You get where I’m going with this, yes? Although not exactly the same vibe, it’s about Mondo with his brother, and then, Mondo with Chihiro, and the way they tried to protect one another. Sort of.
Celestia Ludenberg - Be Prepared ( Lion King ) ; I first thought Junko should have this, because of the Hyena/Despair army, BUT Junko cares more about despair and chaos, while Celestia actually wants to be a Queen and live in a castle with everyone serving her, so yeah, it’s perfect, especially with the way she sees and treats the rest, and how proud she is.
Ikusaba Mukuro - A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes ( Cinderella ) ; Mukuro was so obsessively in love with Junko that she would dream day and night about her, going as far as to do anything she ordered.
Naegi Makoto - Listen With Your Heart ( Pocahontas ) ; I think Makoto, not having a proper Ultimate, kinda makes him feel insecure about his worth and his future sometimes, so he gets confused about what he wants to do in the future.
Asahina Aoi - How Far I’ll Go ( Moana ) ; I was between this and Merida’s “Touch The Sky” , but I think that song is a bit more courageous and reckless, while Moana’s song is more about following your passion and who you are... And, water.
Kuwata Leon - A Star Is Born ( Hercules ) ; That boy really wants to become a renowned Rock Star, so this is a great song for him.
Hagakure Yasuhiro - The Bare Necessities ( The Jungle Book ) ; I don’t think this needs explaining.
Fukawa Toko - Love Is An Open Door ( Frozen ) ; I’ll be clear about it. I HATE Fukawa. BUT. She won multiple awards for her romance novel about... Sexy fishermen or something, so... I guess she imagines herself as Anna with Hans being Byakuya or something. Also, we know how sexual her fantasies can get, so, unlike Anna, who is pure and innocent, Fukawa is just... Hifumi 2.0
Enoshima Junko - Mother Knows Best ( Tangled ) ; Junko is known to manipulate and brainwash multiple people, into the hundreds, hence why, the way ‘Mother’ manipulated Rapunzel into not leaving her, so she could use her powers forever.
Ogami Sakura - Some Day My Prince Will Come ( Snow White ) ; Remember that boy Sakura liked? No matter how big buff she is, we all know she has a sensitive and emotional heart. Having her crush in mind, I can see her tearing up to this song <3
Maizono Sayaka - Reflection ( Mulan ) ; Idols are known to have so much social pressure that they can’t be themselves, but a perfect version of what the audience wants, thus, why Sayaka sometimes has identity crisis and hates her fame, although she loves being a singer.
Ishimaru Kiyotaka - Make A Man Out Of You ( Mulan ) ; At first, I was debating it for Mondo, but... Shang is supposed to be strict with everyone else, including himself, so he instils hard-work and discipline. Like Taka.
Kirigiri Kyoko - Bella Notte ( Lady and the Tramp ) ; I find that the song is very warm and tender, something Kyoko secretly appreciates, and I can see her dancing with another, in the living room, with such songs in the background. Outside is a cold winter, and inside, the fireplaces is crackling.
Fujisaki Chihiro - I See The Light ( Tangled ) ; I think Chihiro is very sweet, but shy and gets taken advantage of a lot, hence why he tries to live a secluded, hidden away life, sort of. Once he gets into Hope’s Peak and makes friends, it’s as if he sees life in a new light.

How about number 3? Like, tell us all about it if you want :)
Oh my gosh 🥺 thank you so much for giving me my first ask! 💖 I'm eternally grateful I get to spill all my pheels out.
3. What is my favorite Phantom tv/film adaptation?
My absolute favorite Phantom is the 1925 Lon Chaney silent film. He just embodies everything that I like about Gaston Leroux's Erik for me and he is both horrifying and pitiable. I dislike the ending but I can live with it given it's what test audiences wanted at the time. I truly love his Red Death costume. You can find it on Youtube and the Tubi app for free.
My first runner up would be Claude Raines in the 1943 because his Erique so soft and tragic in that film I cannot help but love him. This was one was my grandma's favorite 'classic monster' movies that she loved, so I have a special place in my heart for this one. I love his hair and appreciate that he was one fine silver fox before the revenge and jealousy issues set in. The opera parts are a little boring, but the costumes and the sassy diva rival to Christine are worth the watch. We get 2 handsome Raouls who end up going to dinner together at the end of the movie and a Christine who gets to bask in the limelight of her career while not choosing any suitor, which is the best possible outcome for her. Double play for the win in my book! You can watch it for free on the Peacock app.
My next runner up is a 3 way tie between Robert Englund, Gerard Butler, and Charles Dance.
I honestly enjoy all their performances because they each bring something unique to the role.
I cannot stress enough how violent the Robert Englund version is if you want to give it a go, but Erik Destler is insane, twisted, and fabulously murdertastic in this. I love the creepy, evil vibes the man gives off. Think of this film as a time travel AU of the original novel. I feel like he nailed Leroux Erik's darker, snarky personality that some people tend to forget he had and the gothic horror parts of the original novel are there. Bonus: they keep the Faust parallels like in the novel!
I'm gonna say it: I love the Charles Dance miniseries. I know it's not the best, but damn, he is so dry and sarcastic I cannot help but enjoy his performance. I want to pinch his cheeks and smother Cherik with the love his father never gave him everytime I see him. Again, this one focuses on the operas a lot, and for me it's a bit boring. But the backgrounds, settings, and props in this thing are fantastic and the costumes are wonderful too.
That leaves Gerard Butler in the 2004 movie. No he is not the world's greatest singing Phantom, but I don't care. I absolutely love his facial expressions and body language. The Phantom is an emotional, expressive dude and the Red Death costume scene is pretty good. I love how kind and sincere Emmy feels in this film and I appreciate she's not overracting and doesn't feel fake compared to some other Christines *coughSierracough* Being the film version of the ALW musical, this Phantom story focuses on the romance and Gerard excels at that. When he and Christine are singing Past the Point of no Return, I FEEL THEIR PASSION! And that's what counts more so than hitting the same notes we've all heard a million times before.
Now for the versions in the 'I will eternally like this' category 😊 :
The Phantom of the Paradise from 1974. This is also a very violent and dark film so fair warning if you haven't seen it. It's a bizarre rock musical, but if you're weird like me and enjoy Rock & Rule or the Rocky Horror Picture Show, this might be a film you'd like too. I don't want to spoil it too much but the Faust/devil parallels are here too, as is various pop culture references. His teeth and mask are terrifyingly cool, and so is the electronic voice box he uses. It makes sense Daft Punk was inspired by this film. Maybe G1 Soundwave was inspired by this film too, but that's a debate for another day 😉
Next is the animated 1988 film. This one features animation on par with other 80s tv cartoons of the time. I love that they kept the Persian and the torture chamber from the novel. The Phantom's death scene is pretty damn epic. Christine is kind of a flake, but animated Leroux Erik is hilariously insane and terribly charming, especially when he calls himself a Don Juan. It's worth watching just for his antics and his dialouge.
You might not expect a Goosebumps episode to do a Phantom story any justice, but here we are: 1995, The Phantom of the Auditorium is a spooky fun take on the story and honestly, I'd like to see the full play the kids at that school are putting on cause it looks better than some of the live Phantom stage scenes I've seen. Both young boys playing the Phantom are fantastic actors and the plot twist at the end is great.
I absolutely have to give a shout out to Wishbone's Pantin at the Opera. He is the best, cutest, most adorable Raoul de Chagney ever and I will fight you if you dare talk smack about this version. I'm not even a Raoul stan by any means but like, this dog is precious and I enjoy this episode so much.
Also in the animated category and cute dog category is Scooby Doo Stage Fright made back in 2013. This movie is one of my fave Scooby Doo films (yes I own almost all of them on dvd) and there are multiple Phantoms, a reality tv show contest, and Fred and Daphne finally kiss each other! Lots and lots of hidden Phantom references in the background and lots of voice acting talent for those of us who appreciate that.
Now for the versions I intensely dislike 😏
The 1962 Herbert Lom version. UGH where to start. The sets are so small and everything looks dirty and of the wrong time period. The color in the film looks washed out. The clothes look too modern somehow (maybe it's their hairstyles?) and it bothers me. It feels low budget in a bad way and it shows. This phantom is not likeable or pitiable even though his backstory is similar to the Claude Raines version. He has no romantic interest in Christine, so it feels off. This guy is such an old a$$ piece of sh*t, he literally slaps Christine as she's singing for him for no damn reason. His paper mache mask looks like a Kindergartener's botched art class project. His personality is like somebody locked up cranky grandpa in the basement and he's PMS-ing because y'all forgot to give him his daily prune juice. This squatter's lair lacks creepiness, and his bizarre sidekick is annoying and yet somehow more interesting than the Phantom. The pervert manager trying to bang Christine aggravated me and simultaneously made me want to vomit. Raoul is the only likeable character in the whole damn movie. The Joan of Arc opera scene makes up for some of the film, but it's still terrible.
Next on my meh list is the 1983 made for tv movie starring Micheal York and Jane Seymour. Now, this one has some likeable and applaudable scenes: the various murders and general creepiness of the Phantom, and the lair scene when she wakes up in his bed and the Phantom gets all up in her face is so intense and so Leroux I absolutely love it. The rest of the film is a jumbled hot mess at best, but Jane Seymour is 🔥 and she gets some damn good sex, so hell yeah to that!
And lastly, I do not like the Royal Albert Hall 25th anniversary recording. I should preface this by saying it is Sierra I don't like. I like Ramin, I love Hadley, everyone else is wonderful but I cannot stand Sierra. She tries too hard to make Christine a Disney Princess- and that doesn't fly with me. It comes off as insincere or mocking the source material at best, and at worst it makes Christine look like an airheaded ditz. Apparently Sierra played Ariel at one point which is hilarious because of all the Disney princesses, I dislike her the most. But that's a different rant for another day.
And finally, the one I hate most of all:
The 1998 Argento film. This is the worst Phantom adaptation I've ever seen. It is a whole lotta nope for me. Between the rats, the unecessary and pointless telepathy, the r*pe scene, and the unfunny weird vibe from the murder going on in this film it's a disaster from start to finish. Honestly, it's the rats and his hair that bother me from a visual standpoint alone and it's beyond disgusting the way this a$$🤡 treats Christine. I don't like any of the characters in here and for good reason. It's not worth watching and if you do, be ready to bleach your brain afterwards.
💖 Sorry if this was a long read! Thanks again for giving me an ask and I will cherish it forver!!!! 💖

Hoe For The Hoe-lidays Masterlist
Masterlist // Taglist and Ko-Fi linked above
Let me know what you think!
“Two years! Love of my life, best thing that ever happened!” Ashton raises his glass in an exaggerated toast and the inquiring stranger smiles kindly, taking their own drink and walking away.
You don’t know how you managed to wait until the coast was clear before you burst out laughing. He glances behind him to make sure the curious patron is gone before he turns to you, grinning. “Should I have said three or four years, was that too much for two? My relationships typically don’t last even that long,” he admits, shaking his head.
“Listen, if I were well-adjusted enough to know what it’s like for someone to call me ‘the best thing that ever happened’ to them, I probably wouldn’t be spending Christmas Eve alone in a bar,” you point out with a laugh.
“But you’re not alone,” he leans in, nudging you a bit. “You’re out with your boyfriend of two years, celebrating his return home from an extensive and wildly successful world tour with his band.”
You cackle, “OK, that part was definitely a flourish too far, I don’t think anybody bought that.”
He smiles slyly. “You’re probably right,” he lilts, taking a sip, giving you a look over his glass that makes you grateful your holiday had turned out the way it did.
You’d made the tough call not to fly home for Christmas this year; you couldn't afford it and you didn't feel right taking your parents up on their offer to pay. Unfortunately, literally everyone you knew did get out of town for the holidays, leaving you with nowhere to go and no one to see.
On Christmas Eve, you ended up at the corner bar, which was nowhere near as lively as you'd hoped: save for what appears to be an older ladies' night out and a few stragglers, it was deserted. After exhausting your conversation options with the bartender, you ended up chatting with the man a couple stools over from you. He was handsome, charming and seemed to have an opinion or anecdote about any topic you raised. Looking for companionship, or at least some entertainment, you asked him to join you.
His name was Ash and he was in a similar predicament as you this Christmas. You didn't get a chance to get more in depth personally; maybe it's the ease you have with each other, maybe it's the way your outfits happen to complement each other but one by one, the women from the back of the bar approach you to kindly tell you what a nice couple you make and make small talk about your relationship. Rather than embarrass them - and again, for some entertainment - you both silently agree to humor them and answer as if you are together and before long, you've established an elaborate narrative for your romance.
“So where’d you take me for our anniversary this year, babe?” You grin, enjoying this game.
“Surprised you with Disney World,” he says confidently, gesturing towards the Stitch keychain decorating your car keys sitting on the bar. “Hid the plane tickets in your work bag, you found them at the office and called me to scream about it but I was already in the lobby to surprise you for lunch.”
You giggle, “Wow, not to brag about your boyfriend-ing skills or anything.”
Ashton shrugs and clinks your glass. “Nothing but the best for my girl.” You feel yourself flush and know it had to have been from his words, you both switched from booze to water quite some time ago.
“What about my birthday?” He asks, eyes playfully challenging you. “It’s in July, if that makes a difference.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you see one of the ladies you talked to earlier and you lean in, resting your hand on his, continuing to sell your story. “Intimate backyard barbeque with friends, bonfire at night. I saved up and bought that acoustic guitar you’d been eyeing online but I waited to give it to you until everyone left because I wanted it to be a special moment between us,” you say quietly, pleased with your answer.
He smiles brightly and you feel yourself actively suppressing the urge to kiss over the dimples that form on his face. “A guitar, huh? I’m actually a drummer,” he teases.
“When you tipped the bartender, there was a guitar pick mixed in with your cash,” you point out smugly.
“Oh,” he giggles, clearly a little flustered. “Didn’t realize you were payin’ such close attention to me,” he flirts.
“Gotta make sure my man gets what he wants,” you cheekily reply.
He moves in closer and you’re pretty sure he’s about to kiss you when another inquisitive customer interrupts to tipsily assert that Ash is a fool if he doesn’t “put a ring on it” this holiday season. You both take the comment in stride and laugh together when the encounter is over. The heat from your near-kiss is still there but the moment has decidedly passed.
After a few more entries into your pretend love story and a few more close encounters, the bar starts clearing out. You can’t believe you spent the whole evening talking with Ashton but you also don’t want it to end; you haven’t felt chemistry like this with someone in a long time. You walk to the door with him and you’re not surprised when you hear yourself say, “My place or yours, babe?”
He turns to you with a wide smile, amusement and what you’re hoping is lust in his eyes. “I was hoping you might say that,” he admits.
“Can’t let my travel-weary boyfriend wake up alone on Christmas morning,” you chirp, stepping out into the cool night air.
“That part of the story was actually true,” he chuckles. “I did just get home from touring with my band.”
You raise your eyebrows, interested. “Well, the part about me living just down the street was also true, so let’s start walking,” you wink, starting to lead the way.
He laughs loudly and reaches out for your arm, smoothly pulling you into his arms for a charged kiss, the tension that’s been building all evening finally boiling over. His lips are softer than you imagined but his technique is as fevered and demanding as you’d hoped; your tongue makes its way into his mouth and you murmur when his strokes it in turn.
It’s hard to say if it’s the chilly weather or your desire but you make it back to your apartment in record time. It’s not often you bring home guys you just met but as you lead him to your bedroom, you realize how he doesn’t feel like that at all, almost as if your fictitious history together has bled into reality.
Ash shuts your bedroom door behind him and you waste no time pressing yourself into him, making out and undressing each other until you’re both down to your underwear. He lifts you up by your thighs, wrapping them around his waist; he tries to get fancy and kiss you while he carries you over to the bed, hitting his leg on the edge of the frame and almost sending you both flying.
The two of you break into laughter as he safely drops you on the bed. “Did some rearranging since last time I was over, huh, baby?” He jokes, sitting up against the headboard to rub the knot on his shin.
“Vibes were off without you here, had to get some feng shui happening,” you reply, trying to catch your breath after your giggle fit. You let your eyes roam over his near naked body. He’s fit, almost ridiculously muscular and judging by his biceps, you decide he must’ve been telling the truth about being a drummer. You didn’t expect all the tattoos you’re seeing but you definitely approve and the amused look on his face tells you he’s noticed.
“Like the new ink, babe? Wanted to surprise you,” he grins, drawing your attention to a large, dark coin decorating the left side of his ribcage.
You crawl over to him and let your fingertips dance over the tattoo. “Very nice,” you murmur before mouthing over it. He groans when your tongue pokes out at it and you shudder at the sound, continuing to move around his chest, hoping to hear it again.
He lets you play and then flips you over so he can show you some appreciation as well. He nips and nibbles around your neck and chest, doubling back when you breathe a particularly enthusiastic sigh of approval.
“Love this underwear, by the way,” he comments as he removes your bra. “Just like you wore on our first date. Took you home from a bar that night too”
You giggle at his addition to your story. “Oh did you? I thought earlier we said our first date was at an Italian restaurant.” You gasp as his mouth encases your nipple.
“Well… dinner then drinks, obviously,” he retorts, snickering against you. He pulls back to discard your panties and you swear you can almost feel his eyes devouring you. “Holy shit, you’re gorgeous.”
You beam and beckon him closer; before you can kiss him like you planned, his mouth is back on your neck, trying to relocate that spot under your jaw that caused you to moan so boldly, he felt his cock twitch. His hand is busy between your legs, tracing lightly around your lips before dipping into your folds to see what makes you tick.
You feel him hard against your thigh as he plays with you so you reach down to return the favor; you do your best to maintain a poker face when you feel the size of him through his boxers but Ashton’s fingers inside you undoubtedly feel the surge of wetness your realization brings.
You eagerly slip your hand inside his underwear and you both groan when you wrap your hand around him. His cock couldn’t be more ready for you, head dripping with precum; you spread it liberally as you touch him, thoughts racing as your hand seems to keep going and going down his length before you reach the base. You give him a squeeze, biting your lip at the feel of his weight and girth in your hand.
He quietly curses as your strokes become more confident; together you get rid of his boxers and as his cock springs free, he teases you with a smile. “Think you can take it, baby?”
“It has been a while,” you admit, slyly adding, “I mean… with you on tour and everything.” He chuckles and gives you a swat as you sit up to dig through your nightstand.
You shoot him a glance over your shoulder and he breaks character for a second, rushing out, “I… did that without even thinking, I’m sorry. Was that OK?”
You toss the condoms and lube on the bed and give his cock a few more tugs as you shrug, “Do it harder next time.”
Ash smirks as he gets situated, rolling on a condom and lubing up his length before tossing you the bottle; when you’re ready, you get up on all fours, flashing him a dazzling smile over your shoulder. “Just like our first date, right?”
He grins, kneeling behind you, large hands covering your ass, squeezing and giving it a couple firm spanks as requested. You gasp as his cock taps against your clit before pushing into you, paying close attention to your breathing to see if you need him to slow down. You hear his breath heavy as well and you know you must feel tight around him, no one has ever filled you like this before; it’s overwhelming but you’re aching with anticipation so you rock back against him, letting out a breathy “Please” for good measure.
The soft way he runs his hands over your back is a fascinating contrast to the rough snap of his hips against your ass as he drives his cock into you. You fuck with a familiarity you didn’t expect, listening to each other’s sounds to tell you what the other needs.
You stretch on the bed more, popping your ass out further, inviting him to really let you have it; the sound of a loud smack on your ass fills the room and his thrusts increase in both speed and impact. You want to think of something clever to say, to let him know how good he’s making you feel and to continue the intimacy of your fictional romance but all you can think about is how full his cock makes you feel.
You hear his breath speed up but feel his hips slowing and you deduce he’s trying to stave off his orgasm; you’re nowhere near close so you decide to improve the situation for you both. “Babe, can we try something else?” You look over your shoulder winningly. “Feels good but I need more.”
Ashton pulls out, taking a few deep breaths while you turn onto your back; he sits upright on his knees in front of you and after some brief negotiations with your flexibility, you swing your legs up on his shoulder before he slips himself back in.
This new position is quickly much more intense than either of you anticipated. He’s hitting deeper than before and you’re in heaven with his hands roving over your stomach and chest; having your legs close together like this makes you seem even tighter and you hear him breathing even faster than before.
He fucks you hard and the combination of hearing your desperate sounds, seeing your tits bounce and feeling your pussy grip his cock so tightly is too much. “Fuck… ‘s too fuckin’ good, baby… fuck,” he groans and within seconds he’s filling the condom with cum.
You moan watching as he loses himself in the feeling, slowing his hips gradually until he’s spent. He carefully slides your legs off his shoulder, offering you a peck and a quiet apology as he gets up to throw away the condom.
Maybe it’s out of habit, maybe you are just that comfortable with this stranger for some reason, but without hesitation you reach back into your nightstand and retrieve your favorite vibrator.
You feel Ash get back into bed and you turn to see him propped up on his side, watching you intently as you slick the vibe through your wetness. “No offense...” you start.
“None taken,” he smiles, studying your toy. “I was gonna offer you my mouth, but…”
“This’ll be a lot quicker,” you insist, teasing the tip of the toy at your entrance. “You relax, enjoy the afterglow. I’ll join you in literally like three minutes.” You push it in and click the button to start it vibrating inside you.
He scoots closer, pressing a kiss to your shoulder. “Two years in and the romance is already dead,” he jokingly laments.
You cackle loudly, clenching around your vibe and your laughs turn into a moan. “Goddammit, Ash, you wanna crack jokes or help your ol’ girl out?”
He smiles and pulls you into a sleepy kiss while his other hand grips and massages your breast. His tongue lazily dances with yours and his hands travel over your skin, caressing, teasing, igniting all while you work the vibe between your thighs.
You pull away from his mouth to pant, “Check this shit out.” You click a second button on the toy and the clitoral vibrator whirs to life. Ashton can almost immediately detect the difference in your breathing.
He rolls your nipple between his fingers, watching as your back arches and your hips swirl. “Just like that, baby, come on. Let me see you cum,” he murmurs.
You’re surprised to hear yourself call out his name when you begin clenching around your toy and you especially don’t expect to tug on his hair, silently pleading for him to kiss you while the waves of pleasure overtake your body.
You whimper and pant against his lips until you have to pull away to frantically turn the vibrator off, nearing overstimulation. You close your eyes and catch your breath, waiting for the aftershocks to stop, your legs to stop shaking.
You finally open your eyes to see him offering you a handful of tissues he thoughtfully snagged off the bedside table; you graciously accept, wrapping them around your toy so you can set it on the nightstand. You look over at him again, gazing at each other for a beat before bursting into euphoric giggles.
You return to the bedroom after cleaning up to find Ash laying in his boxers, messing with his phone. You don’t know if you should say it out loud but you really hope he’s not ordering a car to take him home.
“Well, I can only speak for myself but I’d call that a decidedly Merry Christmas,” you sigh exhaustedly, flopping onto the bed.
He sets his phone aside and looks you over as you stretch out beside him. “This is cute,” he smiles, pinching at the Christmas cookie themed nightshirt you threw on in the bathroom. “Would you say that was more or less fun than our first Christmas together?”
You grin at him as you try to remember what tale you’d spun back at the bar. “Oh god… car broke down on the way to my parents’ house… seasonally appropriate ‘no room at the inn’ joke… fashioned a Christmas dinner out of motel vending machine snacks?”
“That’s the one,” he cackles. A mischievous look crosses his features and he leans in to you. “You know, we haven’t reminisced about what else went on in that motel room...” He trails off, suggestively wiggling his eyebrows.
You bite your lip, pulling him closer by the chain around his neck. “Hmm... I’m actually having trouble remembering that part,” you flirt, nibbling at his bottom lip. “Maybe you could remind me, babe? And please, take your time.”

hii, i just wanted to say i love your headcanon of tenor zuko, it works so well! 💞💞
i was wondering whether you also had an idea of which other members of atla would sing and how they would?
thanks so much, liv! 💞💞
OH U BET UR SWEET ASS I DO
aaaaAAAAHHH theatre kid mode: activate
aang: ummm the best singer EVER like bro is an airbender: hes got FANTASTIC breathe support. his directors always wanna cast him as the lead because hes also a triple threat (remember his dancing w katara??? remember how well he played pippinpaddleopsicopolis (i def spelled that wrong oops) manz can sing dance and act hes a star) BUT he always auditions for the comedic side kid characters because those are the ones he wants and no one else is funny enough to play them. it works out well since they have tenor king zuko to be the male lead.
katara: strongest belt you have ever heard in your LIFE. can riff like no other. but the thing is shes an alto so she never gets the parts she deserves because in my experience directors always favor the sopranos. however she is the BEST dancer no matter what cast she is in so she always gets these BEAUTIFUL solo dances and people flip out over them.
sokka: he thinks hes a tenor so he always tries to sing the high stuff (and he can! he does have the range and can hit the notes but he doesnt realize its straining his voice a little bit) so when he gets casted in a baritone role and fucking KILLS IT everyones like holy shit hes amazing. like katara hes got a pretty powerful belt but again if he tries to go too high hes gonna strain his voice. despite not being able to belt too too too high like tenor king zuko, his mix voice is very good and his falsetto is fucking amazing (jersey boys sokka from my yuekka senario last week anyone?)
toph: see you THINK shed be an alto but NOPE. she is a classically trained soprano because of her parents and her classical voice is fucking beautiful. never a dry eye when this girl sings. coukd easily be christine in phantom if she wanted. despite this due to her short height and small frame she is always cast as the little boy characters that are too big of roles to cast random little kids and too high for the other men. example: she was james in james and the giant peach and she was FANTASTIC.
zuko: tenor king.
suki: OUR LEADING LADY. started out as a mezzo soprano w a strong belt and evolved into a true soprano who can actually sing on pitch (no offense to my soprano friends out there. its just. in my hs. EVERY girl thoight they were a soprano. in reality we had two true sopranos. out of like 40 girls who thought they were sopranos. it was a nightmare.) zuko and suki are almost always paired up for the romantic leads in the shows and become besties because of it. very very good dancer as well. back to her voice. im thinking veryyyyy eva noblezada mixed with laura osnes.
azula: soprano queen azula for the same reasons zuko is a tenor king. however: due to the fact that she cannot act or dance for SHIT takes away from her singing talents. its okay tho! she still gets every female lead because no one else can sing like her. the director just makes sure to have everyone dance around her in big numbers and chooses shows where the acting isnt too hard. her school and zukos school are rivals and during hs musical award season it gets HEATED.
mai: alto queen. alto queen. alto queen. who is always playing the female villains and loving every minute of it? mai. her voice is low and haunting and very beautiful to listen to. it gives you shivers and goosebumps because how can her range go that low??? alto queen what more can i say. her raspiness is just *chefs kiss* the cherry on top.
ty lee: dancer first. girl cannot sing for her LIFE. literally so bad she cannot carry a tune at all. but her dancing and actor save her so she always gets the funny girl roles that dont require much ir any singing at all. she always tries her best tho! and by senior year of high school her voice is actually barely tolerable instead of downright painful to listen to. her dancing is on par with kataras and they always make ty lee do the show stopping acrobating tricks even if the show doesnt have that kind of vibe. shes just so energetic onstage that people go crazy for her tricks.
yue: soprano legend. her voice is literally a disney princess voice. she would get all the female leads but she gets stage fright and prefers being in the ensambke anyways. but seriously if you listen to this girls soft voice you will get tears. think denee benton and sierra boggess.
jet: TENOR PRINCE. always either zukos understudy or his best friend character. there have been multiple times when jet suited a role better than zuko wcting and dancing wise but they still have them to zuko because yk. tenor king zuko. favorite role by far was when he was judas in jesus christ superstar and zuko was jesus (jet stole the show in this one which is why its his favorite. he managed to steal the show even when zuko sang gethsemane. the ONLY reason im choosing this show for this hc is because tenor king zuko would fuckin KILL gethsemane and jet has major judas vibes. also judas is hot in this show WHOOPS)
thank you so much for this ask jingyi i had so much fun making this (it took me 25 minutes WHAT THE FUCK time cannot be real) i miss being in musicals i cant wait to do another one
🥰🥰🥰
#THEATRE KID LIV ALERT#atla#avatar the last airbender#i dont feel like tagging all the character names oops sorry im just too lazy rn#this was so much fun tho omgomg#okay idc how u feel ab christianity i probs agree with whatever thoughts u have seeing as i am catholic#like some followers of christianity piss me off#BUT JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR IS FUCKING FANTASTIC GO LISTEN TO IT

Ray Molina: Best Dad Ever
For the March 11th explosion of content thing. Just Violet being a fantom and doing my part for this!
Tw: mentioned death, mentioned abusive parents, mentioned panic attack.
So the boys can be seen and heard when directly touching Julie after the whole post-Orpheum glowy hug thing but Ray doesn’t know that just yet.
What he does know is that Julie’s mental health took a rapid turn for the better for seemingly no reason and then a couple weeks later he found out she joined a band without telling him.
He’s not stupid. He knows that’s probably because of the band, though he is a bit confused as to how she even met them.
He kinda figures it’s a kids and your internet tricks thing but there’s some flaws to this theory.
1) He asks Flynn what she knows about the boys only... it seems like she doesn’t know much of anything. That’s weird because he knows Julie tells her practically everything.
2) The boys have American accents despite Julie claiming they’re from Sweden.
3) Carlos is a terrible liar and on the rare occasion Julie actually talks about the boys he gets this weirdly conspiratorial look.
So anyway Ray doesn’t really believe it’s as simple as ‘I met these 3 Swedish boys on the internet’ but he trusts his daughter’s judgement and he leaves it alone.
Anyway he has other things to focus on.
Such as how Ray has literally never been able to keep track of his keys/phone/hats/camera parts/stuff and now it seems to just pop up whenever he’s looking for it.
Also he keeps feeling like there’s someone with him around the house more and more.
Like not a malicious presence like Victoria fears, and definitely not like Rose is around watching him, but like someone is there.
Sometimes it feels like there’s more than one presence around. None of them familiar but all of them friendly.
Oddly enough, whatever or whoever it is feels almost like Julie or Carlos. Young and excitable and like a verse of a happy song. He’s not sure why they’re around, but they definitely don’t feel dangerous, so Ray doesn’t feel threatened.
But some days a better comparison might be to Trevor back when Rose first introduced him. Raw and fragile and very, very sad.
Ray tries to put on happy music or a Disney cartoon or something on those days and he doesn’t quite know why or how but the energy usually gets more positive when he does that.
Anyway after a while of this (after the Orpheum performance) he starts noticing weird things that Carlos and Julie do now.
Carlos will just carry around a small whiteboard and a couple pens and he erases it whenever Ray comes into the room but before he does it almost looks like there’s two, three, or even four sets of handwriting on there.
And he walks in on Julie talking to herself like. All the time.
Carlos doesn’t ask for help on his math homework anymore. Julie makes this insanely good chicken recipe for dinner once and then clearly panics and lies when asked where she got it. Flynn makes a set of rainbow friendship bracelets one day while she’s hanging out at the Molina house but he doesn’t see Julie wearing the match to the one she keeps.
Plus Carrie starts hanging out at their house again?? Out of the blue?? And none of the girls have a good explanation for how they made up??
Then later Nick Danforth-Evans (who Julie used to talk about having a crush on but hasn’t in a while) starts hanging around too and the kid seems... well, Ray doesn’t want to throw the word ‘traumatized’ around, but he’s jumpy and guarded in a way that can only be described as a little bit traumatized.
So all 5 kids are clearly keeping some secret and Ray’s getting suspicious and worried.
He sits them down and asks what’s going on. Like is one of them having problems at home, or..?
The kids, simultaneously:
Julie: no, we’re just all in a play together!
Carlos: we’re fine we’re just ghost hunting!
Flynn: we’re exhibiting bisexual-pansexual-lesbian solidarity!
Carrie: Julie and the Phantoms and Dirty Candi are doing a collaboration album!
Nick: we all joined jazz band??
Ray’s calling bullshit at this point.
Then Julie and Nick both look up directly at the same spot, somewhere a couple feet above the arm of the couch, which is seemingly just empty air.
Whatever it is, it doesn’t seem like the other kids can see it but they all seem to be waiting for something and Ray is wondering if they’re sharing a hallucination??? Are they all on drugs??? Should he be worried???
Then Julie says to meet them in the studio in 30 minutes. Flynn, Carrie, and Nick go home to give the Molina family some alone time.
*cue music performance where Ray is introduced to the boys*
So anyway Julie and Carlos (with the help of the ghosts whenever one of them has something to say and grabs Julie’s hand) give him a clearly-sugarcoated version of the last few months.
Ghosts of Trevor’s dead bandmates help Julie reconnect with music, they form a band, they meet another ghost, other ghost accidentally gets them involved with evil magician ghost, Nick got possessed, Carrie figured it out and helped plot to get him un-possessed, evil magician ghost is still out there and they’re sticking together so he can’t get any of them in the future.
Despite how they say it like it’s no big deal, Ray now understands why the kids have been acting so weird because all these things sound scary and painful.
Also the more he thinks about it, the more he worries about the fact that he has three 17-year-old boys sleeping in his garage who died terribly of food poisoning.
They are children and they died incredibly painfully and then almost got enslaved and/or erased from existence.
Then one day Ray’s feeling one of those presences around the house again and he realizes it’s probably one of Julie’s ghost boys.
Ray: who’s there?
Whoever it is freaks out and leaves, and Ray takes notes for next time.
The next time he feels someone in the room, he has a notepad ready and he writes down “Luke, Alex, or Reggie?” from what he remembers from Julie’s introductions.
Immediately, there’s a spike of anxiety in the room.
Ray: it’s okay. You can stay and we don’t have to talk if you don’t want to. I’d like to know who it is I’m not talking to though.
There’s a few seconds of hesitation, and then the pen picks itself up and the name “Reggie” gets circled.
Ray: the bassist with the flannels, right?
Yeah, written in a teenage boy’s messy scrawl.
Ray: okay, do you want to watch a movie?
More hesitation, and Ray’s not sure what that’s about but he’s starting to suspect with the amount of fear still in the room, and there’s a good 20 seconds where Reggie doesn’t respond before I don’t know.
Ray: Moana or Tangled? Moana.
After that, he takes a page out of Carlos’s book and gets a small whiteboard with 3 pens that stick to it magnetically. Red for Reggie, blue for Luke, and pink for Alex.
Reggie has written conversations with him most, but Luke does sometimes too and Alex does least often but he’ll still request a movie occasionally.
All of them are wary around him and Ray doesn’t quite know what to do to earn their trust. But he asks questions about their preferences on things. He says they did good on their latest show. He remembers which movies are their favorites and introduces them to music he thinks are their styles.
Luke is a big fan of Fall Out Boy and Reggie fucking loves Taylor Swift.
Alex is less consistent but occasionally Ray will play a song and he’ll write something like This is a cool song.
He starts to be able to tell which energy is which even before they write who it is right around the time the boys start to be visible for longer and longer after playing.
They play a really good show and stay visible for like 2 full days and that’s the first (but not the last) time Ray really gets to get to know them.
He starts noticing after really good shows like that one how even more now that they can be seen, they’re all a little... off from how Nick and Carrie and Flynn act around him.
With Luke it’s mostly because he’s trying so hard to impress because *gasp* he and Julie are a thing but there’s still a little bit of tension that seems like it comes from something deeper than just being nervous around his girlfriend’s dad.
With Reggie it’s subtle caution. Like he’s happy to be hanging out with Ray but he’s constantly ready for something to go wrong. There’s a catch in his smile, a hesitation before he states an opinion, a practiced carefulness where he changes the subject at any sign of even mild frustration.
But with Alex... it’s mostly just avoidance. Like if he poofs in while visible and it just so happens that no one else is there, he’ll find an excuse to leave.
And Ray lets him, of course. He doesn’t want the kid to feel trapped. But all of the boys’ behavior bothers him.
On the rare occasion they spend more than 2 seconds together Alex is really quiet. He won’t admit if Ray guessed wrong about a song and he doesn’t like it even though his body language makes it clear he’s not vibing with it. Actually, his body language pretty much just spells I am very uncomfortable in every situation where Julie or Carlos went to the bathroom or someone went to grab a snack and they’re alone even for 5 minutes while he’s visible.
Ray’s not stupid. He knows three 17-year-olds don’t end up getting their instruments left to their only living bandmate’s new best friend’s family by having good relationships with their own families.
He doesn’t exactly want to bring it up, but he kind of knows.
Then one day he’s sitting with all 3 boys watching a movie while he fixes something on his camera and Julie and Carlos are at school and he messes up a little part that means he has to start over (don’t @ me I know nothing about cameras) and swears out of frustration louder than he meant to.
He reaches for the screwdriver on the coffee table and
And Reggie and Alex both flinch.
Ray hadn’t even noticed they were tracking his movements, but while Luke seems to just have moved his focus from the TV to his friends in concern, Alex and Reggie both look too tense to play it off.
He figures its as good a time as any to have a chat cause these boys aren’t his sons but they don’t have anyone else acting as a parent figure to them and he feels the need to take care of them. He pauses the movie.
Ray: Can we have a talk? About you boy’s families?
Naturally Luke jumps in to try to distract him immediately, telling a story about his dad taking him fishing once, but he stops when Ray asks him to stop.
Ray: That’s not what I’m talking about and I think you all know it.
The boys are all still silent. Luke looks 500% ready to deflect again. Reggie and Alex look more like they’re expecting to get yelled at or worse.
Ray: I just want to help. I’ll drop it if you want me to but I want you to know that I would never do something to hurt any of you intentionally. You can talk to me about anything if you need to.
He means to make it an option of ‘you can talk but you don’t have to if you don’t want to,’ but the boys clearly don’t take it as such with how Luke starts talking immediately.
Luke: I ran away when I was 17. My mom and dad didn’t want me to stay in Sunset Curve, I think they thought it was going to get me into drugs or something.
They have a short talk about parents having good intentions not equalling them being right to push Luke so hard they pushed him away and it’s okay to feel hurt by that and then press play on the movie again and Ray thinks he sees all 3 boys relax somewhat during that.
A couple weeks later Reggie comes in visible and hesitantly asks about watching this series he saw when Carlos was scrolling through Netflix once.
Mid-episode he blurts out
Reggie: I don’t want to look for my parents and I feel weird about that.
He rambles for a while about knowing he was lucky that his family had money and his mom and dad told him they loved him and stuff but also he remembers so many fights between them where he felt caught in the middle and it never ended well if he chose a side but there was no way to win because they’d both turn on him if he didn’t so it was just this constant balancing act to try to prevent fights in the first place.
Reggie: I felt like I was walking on a tightrope. Like, all the time. I tried so hard to keep them from getting mad at each other or at me. Only it never worked and it was always a question of when they were going to snap next and it was confusing cause one day we’d go to the zoo and everything would be fine and the next they’d yell at me and send me to bed without food.
He feels guilty for not wanting to put in the effort to find them because he’s pretty sure on some level they did love him but he doesn’t want to see them again.
And he doesn’t want to know if they even miss him at all because when he got older and the fighting got too intense he would sneak off to Luke’s or Bobby’s and no matter if he stayed away for an hour or a couple days they never seemed to notice he was gone.
Ray listens and a lot of things about Reggie start to make sense. How he’s so careful not to catch him in a bad mood. How he shuts down whenever anyone raises their voice. How he helps out so much in an effort to stay on Ray’s good side.
It’s a day and a half after the latest show so they can’t really hug but Ray does what he can to provide comfort and validate his feelings anyway because damn Reggie is a good kid and he didn’t deserve that.
Reggie and Luke get more comfortable with coming to him for meaningful chats, or even just to vent about whatever’s going on lately.
Eventually they seem to feel almost as comfortable with him as Julie and Carlos do so it kinda becomes a routine.
Like Julie will ask for cuddles when she’s sad about missing Rose or she’ll walk in and vent about Carrie and Flynn being so obvious about liking each other but somehow not realizing it’s mutual and she and Nick are 3rd wheeling and going insane.
Carlos will excitedly ramble about his latest baseball practice shenanigans for an hour but also sometimes ask for someone to watch old home movies or listen to old CDs from Rose and the Petal Pushers with him.
And that’s normal. That’s been Ray’s life since his kids started talking. But the thing is that it’s just as normal when
When Luke tells how he’s still angry about his music getting stolen because it feels like a part of him was taken away and he worked hard on those songs. Also one day he very shyly admits
Luke: I like Julie a lot.
Ray: I know, kiddo.
Luke: You’re not mad?
Ray: As long as you two make each other happy, no. I’m happy for you.
And it’s just as normal when Reggie talks about missing his little cousin Kelsi and wondering where she ended up only for them to look her up and find out she’s a major Broadway writer/director now oh my god— and also
Reggie: I think I like boys. Like boys are cute. But I know I’m not gay because girls are cute too and ugh it’s confusing it’s probably nothing I guess everybody goes through this.
Ray: Have you ever thought you might be bisexual?
Reggie: Bi-what-now?
Ray, already digging out his old flannels that he would have passed down to Julie except they’re too big for her: It’s okay to like both, kiddo.
All this is great of course. It’s great how Reggie and Luke aren’t afraid anymore and they feel validated and seen and listened to.
But months have passed and Ray notices how Alex remains separate. He still avoids Ray when he can and stays quiet and cautious when he can’t.
Like Ray still senses Alex around him sometimes but never right after a show when he’s visible. He doesn’t come to him with problems. He’ll stay and listen when Ray plays a song he thinks he’d like, but he still seems so cautious and Ray doesn’t know how to help.
He asks Luke one day while he’s introducing him to a Wicked bootleg if he’s done something specific to scare Alex away.
Luke gets this really dark look on his face and he just
Luke: Let’s just say that my parents didn’t do everything perfectly, but they’re saints compared to Alex’s.
Ray decides to drop it, but Luke wants to reassure him.
Luke: You haven’t done anything wrong. He’s just not very comfortable around most adults in general. It’s one thing when we’re invisible, but...
Ray: I just wish I could help.
Luke: You do help. But it took a while for Alex to trust me.
The conversation ends there because Luke starts getting really into Defying Gravity.
But then that night Julie comes in with a kind of out of character movie request so Ray thinks Luke talked to her.
Because Julie does not like most romcoms that aren’t musicals. She gets bored. But she requests Love, Simon anyway.
Ray kind of sees what she’s trying to do there because now that he’s thinking about it the boys haven’t really seen many things with queer rep. Especially not queer main characters.
And nobody’s really told him that Alex is gay but cmon he’s an elder bi. He has accurate gaydar so he can support his queer ducklings.
Despite how the boys all know being gay is more socially acceptable now (they found out about Nick’s dads and the girls gave them the ‘gay marriage is legal now’ talk) they still seem kind of baffled by how there’s an entire romcom centered around a gay boy and it did well.
From there Ray tries to find more movies and tv shows with canon queer representation.
And he keeps giving Alex space but also trying his best to show him that he’s not like his parents.
For a long time nothing changes beyond Luke and Reggie getting increasingly comfortable with him.
Well that’s not completely true actually cause Reggie starts tagging along to photo shoots and becomes Ray’s unofficial mostly invisible assistant.
Then the band plays an amazing show and the boys stay visible for a full week.
Around the middle of that week, Ray goes out to the garage to find Reggie and see if he wants to come on a photo shoot.
Reggie isn’t out there but Alex is.
And he’s crying. Hard.
He looks like he’s going to poof out when he sees Ray there but Ray’s already 100% ready to do exactly what he always does when he walks in on Julie or Carlos crying.
Ray: Alex. Hey, buddy, it’s okay. I’m here. It’s going to be okay.
Alex freezes and it breaks Ray’s heart how that kind of concern is clearly not what he’s expecting.
Ray: Are you okay with being touched?
Alex looks kind of like he’s in shock but he nods.
He clearly doesn’t really know what to do with it but he kind of melts into it when Ray hugs him and he just sobs on his shoulder.
When he’s stopped crying enough he starts rambling about how he’s been looking everywhere but he can’t find Willie.
At that point he’s basically having a panic attack so finding out what’s wrong takes a backseat compared to calming him down and Ray knows how to do that because he and Rose used to do that for Trevor all the time.
Ray: Alex, breathe. In for 4 counts, hold for 7, out for 8. Breathe with me.
It takes a couple minutes until Alex has calmed down enough, but once he does, Ray asks what’s wrong and what’s happening with Willie.
He only vaguely knows who Willie is from what he’s been told by the other kids but he knows he’s important to Alex.
So Alex takes a deep breath and explains that Caleb confronted him and basically said the boys had to join his house band or he would make sure he’d never see Willie again. And he doesn’t want to ask his family to sacrifice themselves for him but he doesn’t want to lose the boy he loves either.
Ray wants to throw hands but from what the kids have told him about Caleb, he has a better idea.
Ray: Here’s what we’re gonna do, buddy. Reggie said Caleb has this super catchy number, The Other Side of Hollywood?
Alex: Yeah?
Ray: How quickly do you think Luke and Julie could come up with an arrangement for you four to cover that and how desperate do you think Covington would be to make sure a video of that never gets published without crediting him?
Alex: :o
Spoiler alert: Julie and Luke, in collaboration with Carrie, can come up with an arrangement very quickly.
They do a private performance of it and film it and basically blackmail Caleb into letting Willie go.
Willie has an empty house that used to be his parents’ that he still considers his so he mostly crashes there if he needs to. Also he loves skating around so much that he never stays in one place for very long.
Julie can see him but she can’t make him visible so it’s a little odd but Ray gets an orange pen for him for the whiteboard and he finds skateboarding videos and stuff for when he visits.
They eventually figure out that he can be part of the magic by adding him to the band so they give him a tambourine and yay now Willie can be seen but that’s later.
The biggest immediate change to come out of all this is Alex.
He’s not afraid of Ray anymore for the most part (healing isn’t linear and he can’t help a few bad days) and he starts actually talking to him. Not about serious stuff but he’s talking. Mostly just rambling about how Willie makes him feel or how Luke and Reggie have been being annoying lately.
Then one day he comes in really nervous and says something about Reggie saying he talked to Ray about his parents.
And Ray confirms it and asks if there’s anything Alex needs to tell him.
Alex sits down and clearly he’s been holding this in for a long time and he just unloads how he came out to his parents because his youngest sister found his diary and he was scared she’d tell them. They didn’t react well and when he cried out of fear and frustration his father... gave him something to cry about.
His father did that a few more times, trying to ‘make him man up,’ and Alex never told his bandmates but he always knew they could see the bruises and that was why Bobby made it so clear his garage was open and his house was a safe place to run.
But Alex didn’t no matter how bad things got because he guessed some small part of him thought he deserved it but mostly it was about how his oldest sister dropped out of college and ghosted the family and Alex was the next-oldest so he felt responsible for protecting his younger sisters even if they both had learned behaviors from their parents and hated him.
Then that summer he found out his parents were planning on sending him away to some Christian camp where they’d ‘fix’ him.
Alex made it clear that he wouldn’t go and if they tried to make him he’d run away, but their ultimatum was that he couldn’t live under their roof if he was gay.
So he didn’t. And it was a situation somewhere between getting kicked out and running away, but he packed a bag and never went back.
He ran to Bobby’s house, he wrote a whole bunch of angry songs, and he tried not to think too much about how he understood why his older sister left and how he was doing the exact same thing to his younger sisters.
By the time he’s done explaining everything Ray’s trying not to cry but Alex is definitely already crying mostly out of anger.
Alex: I hated them all. I hated Molly for leaving me and I hated my mom for turning my little sisters against me and I hated my dad for hurting me and I even hated Anna and Josie for not standing by me and I just hated them all so much. I still do. And it is so stupid that I feel guilty for that because they were terrible to me and I was 16 and I didn’t deserve that but I do feel guilty for it because they’re my family and I hate them.
Ray doesn’t have much to say because damn this is heavy stuff but he assures him that after what he went through he has a right to hate his blood family.
Alex tells him awkwardly when he’s calmed down a bit that Luke is the only other person he’s ever told about all this, because after he ran away they dated for a few months before figuring out that they were better as friends.
Reggie and Bobby guessed parts of it and Julie probably has too but none of them have asked and Alex thinks he might tell Reggie and Julie someday if it ever comes up but he never did end up telling Bobby.
Ray assures him that he won’t tell anyone and also that he would never do that. He would never do anything to hurt Alex or the others on purpose.
He makes a silent promise that no one will ever hurt one of his kids like that again and if Caleb or anyone else ever tries, they will regret it.
But anyway on to happier matters.
Willie visits a lot and he’s a little skittish around Ray but he loosens up after he jokingly mentions one time that Willie and Alex are like the beginning of the Sk8ter Boy song.
Alex and Ray might be Denim Jacket Buddies but once Ray digs his old leather jacket out of the closet he becomes Leather Jacket Buddies with Reggie.
You’d think he has to tell Carlos and Reggie off the most for breaking things but he doesn’t. It’s Carlos and Luke.
Also Ray doesn’t consider himself an overprotective dad but Julie and Luke are not allowed to be alone in a room with the door closed.
Neither are Alex and Willie technically but it’s harder to enforce it when they’re both ghosts.
Lmao all the kids follow the rules anyway because they love Ray and he’s not being unreasonable.
He helps Julie in her plot to get Carrie and Flynn together and also he helps Nick plan how to make a move on that cute boy on his lacrosse team.
Because Nick loves his dads but they’re disaster gays. Neither of those men can properly flirt. They fell in love because of a baseball rivalry and Nick doesn’t trust their advice.
Pride month rolls around and Julie makes sure to book a big gig the day before the parade so the boys will be visible and tangible.
Trevor’s on tour and can’t get away and Flynn’s parents are working and Nick’s are busy too so Ray finds himself escorting this whole little gaggle of various queer ducklings to pride.
Carlos isn’t quite sure what he is yet so he’s just got a rainbow flag painted on his cheek and a shirt that says I love my bi sister on it.
Julie’s all decked out in the bi colors, complete with ribbons braided into her hair and a flag to use as a cape. She made the tutu herself and it took her hours but it turned out really good.
Luke’s got a tank top with the pan colors and a trans flag as a cape and also yknow face paint of course.
Reggie browsed thrift shops everywhere until he found a flannel in the bi colors and he’s got that along with pink purple and blue laces in his combat boots and what Ray is really hoping is temporary dye and not spray paint in his hair.
Alex has a rainbow shirt that matches Willie’s and matching bracelets with Flynn. Also he painted rainbow hearts on his cheeks and put a lot of effort into them and they look really symmetrical.
Willie’s of course matching shirts with Alex and also he has sparkly rainbow socks and a flag to use as a cape.
Carrie’s got a whole ensemble in the lesbian colors complete with a pride wig and also matching necklaces with Flynn.
Flynn’s matching colors with Carrie but more in her style with of course matching jewelry with the people closest to her. She’s got friendship bracelets corresponding to Alex and Julie.
Nick’s got a pan tshirt and a fedora with a ribbon in pink yellow and blue plus face paint cause all of them have face paint. Nothing too crazy.
Meanwhile Ray’s got a bi bandanna and one of those shirts that’s like Free Dad Hugs.
Plus everyone did each other’s nails with varying degrees of success the night before and Julie did Ray’s so they turned out good.
Nick’s lacrosse buddies and the rest of Dirty Candi are around somewhere but they didn’t ride in the same car so they’re not that relevant.
They party. Celebrate being alive. Idk I’ve never gotten to go to pride.
And afterwards they all go back to the Molina house and the couch isn’t really big enough for all of them but it’s okay it’s not like they know how to sit correctly anyway.
They all kind of pile together and cuddle and watch movies until Flynn and Nick’s parents can come pick them up.
And Ray just looks around and realizes that
Sure only 2 of them are his biologically
And 3 of the others have good parent(s) who are actively a part of their lives
The remaining 4 are technically dead
But he has 9 children and he’s totally fine with that.
Cause he’s Ray Molina: best dad ever.
Victoria’s head is going to explode when she finds out that not only is the Molina house really haunted, but he’s adopted the ghosts.

Hi, I really love your thoughts and analysis on tts so I wanted to ask if you have read The Vanishing Village Book? It made me really think about Eugene's character. I sorta disliked him in the book and felt his relationship with Rapunzel was different and strained. I guess my question is if you think Eugene is a good character? I feel that I am biased for liking the story and relationship between Cassandra and Rapunzel so perhaps I am not seeing him in a fair light but there's just factors that make me feel he might not be the best for Rapunzel. I love their relationship and value & dedication towards each other but their relationship can feel a bit stale sometimes and Eugene can come off as not understanding and dismissive towards Rapunzel sometimes so ig I'd like to be proven wrong and be reminded that Eugene is good for Rapunzel
i have read vanishing village (and i remember liking it better than lost lagoon) but i have to admit i don’t remember anything but the very broad strokes of the plot, so i don’t feel equipped to do any analysis of eugene based on it; that being said -
i do really like eugene as a character in the sense that he is. interesting / engaging / compelling, which yeah to my mind that’s what makes a “good character” but also has nothing to do with the, kind of, moral or personal question of but is he a good guy or is he likable or sympathetic or that kind of thing. and on that my feelings are more ambivalent kfjfjdhs
on the one hand i do find his relationship with rapunzel in tts to be fairly refreshing. it’s nice to see a fictional m/f couple that is just… comfortable with each other, friends with each other, able to talk about their problems collaboratively with each other. that is so rare in fiction, where the tendency is so often to rely on miscommunication to manufacture relationship drama or do the will they won’t they, on again off again nonsense which is just so tiresome - and it feels good to have a m/f couple that eschews that altogether. and it’s also imo really nice that the m/f relationship fades so much into the background vis a vis the wider plot, which i know is not necessarily a popular opinion [vague gestures at all the ‘eugene was sidelined’ discourse] but, like, i feel like i can count on one hand the number of stories i know where the female protagonist *has a male love interest* without the story being ABOUT him, and with the male love interest filling this supportive narrative role while quietly and subtly dealing with his own problems on the side? it’s so difficult to find stories where men aren’t centered and so i appreciate eugene and new dream a lot for that reason too.
but at the same time like - eugene def falls victim to the plot-driven writing just like every other character does and that frustrates me because i think ultimately having all these loose threads hanging with him means his character feels a bit stagnant, and that in turn makes his flaws more glaring because they’re never… worked on or addressed, they just sort of persist or silently fade away for the most part. (which again, is true of literally every character because the storytelling of tts is highly plot driven and episodic)
& that phenomenon can make character interpretation a little convoluted, because… well the intentions of the narrative are signaled pretty baldly (eugene grows out of his selfishness and becomes a compassionate hard working leader for corona, which he has embraced as his home) without having much if any on-screen development to back it up (indeed the premise of flynnposter involves eugene shirking his new responsibilities, and then it concludes with a commitment from him to take the captain gig seriously - but thereafter the only time we get to see this demonstrated through him encouraging project obsidian [which makes him look the opposite of compassionate or responsible given he is excitedly planning to extrajudicially murder cassandra] and then joining the fight against zhan tiri [which literally everyone in corona does]). so do we take what the textual development shows us and conclude that eugene is, at the end of the day, just another cop, or do we take the narrative signaling as a given and fill in the textual gaps with our own imaginations? i tend to fall heavier on the textual side but i do try to take intentions into consideration when they are signaled so clearly, because i understand the structural and corporate limitations on what the tts team were able to do with the story.
anyways - i also have some fraught feelings about new dream because, in the film, it’s not a relationship that i can buy into at all. rapunzel is 17, a few days shy of 18, when an adult man in his mid-twenties tumbles into her bedroom, hits on her, tries to take advantage of her naïveté so he can recover his stolen goods and screw her over because he’s spent his life cultivating an attitude of selfish disregard for anyone but himself, but she’s so sweet he decides to give emotional vulnerability a try and within three days they’re in love and then they get MARRIED?? and he’s literally the first person rapunzel has ever met who wasn’t her “mother”? excuse me???
and i get the impression the tts team was fully cognizant of that problem and made a real effort to address it, as much as they could within the context of the designated disney princess couple - that’s how we get things like the BEA proposal and rapunzel and eugene talking their feelings out afterwards and agreeing to take things slower, and that’s how we get things like rapunzel having cass and eugene having lance so they have lives and identities and relationships outside of each other, and it’s why eugene has a little arc of becoming less self-absorbed in the front half of s1 and why cassandra overtly criticizes his treatment of rapunzel in BEA and so on and so forth. like no one says it OUT LOUD in the series but rapunzel’s and eugene’s relationship is fraught with peril because of the way they met and came together, and it takes significant emotional work from both of them to navigate that to arrive at a healthy place, and i enjoy watching that play out.
so yeah eugene is sometimes too in his own head to notice when something is wrong with rapunzel, like how he misses how unhappy she is in BEA because *he’s* so jazzed about palace living, and sometimes they struggle to get on the same page with each other in general; but that’s just, kind of the gig where relationships are concerned. what matters to me is that whenever these hiccups happen we see, typically some confusion or distress from him or rapunzel or both, and then they reach out for each other and talk about it until they reach an understanding, which is the correct healthy way to manage this sort of conflict in a relationship. and of course through it all eugene is pretty unflagging in his absolute support of rapunzel - even if he doesn’t always *express it* in a good way, he is always very invested in rapunzel’s happiness and well-being. like even the BEA proposal, eugene’s fuck up lies in assuming that rapunzel felt the same way he did about everything and that proposing now would make her happy - there’s self-absorption there but not to the point where he isn’t concerned about her feelings, so when he upsets her he immediately realizes that he screwed up and shelves his own feelings to focus on hers, which is very Good Partner of him.
and then again on a metatextual level i do kind of hate that rapunzel’s arc is essentially, trapped in corona -> adventure! -> adventure is traumatic time to go home -> exact same circumstances she started in but she’s happy about it now. not to say i object to rapunzel embracing her role as a princess/queen per se, but in an ideal world i would like that to come from a place of rapunzel remaking her role to suit herself rather than just kind of… this ‘well got the wanderlust out of my system forever!’ vibe i get from plus est. this isn’t directly related to eugene at all but i think it does splash over onto him on account of him being so closely intertwined with her life in corona. if rapunzel were given an arc about tearing down institutions that stifled her in s1 and really rebuilding corona to be better (something that is lightly implied in canon but never quite makes its way to outright text) then of course eugene would have been her number one supporter - but she doesn’t get that arc and so eugene ends up just kind of being there while rapunzel settles into the role laid out for her. (the destiny narrative being played painfully straight in this regard doesn’t help either.)
this is all a bit of a ramble but i guess what i’m getting at is i think at the end of the day the thing that makes new dream feel a bit stale or stagnant is the series sticking to this aggressively pro-monarchy, status quo is good, mass market appeal narrative enforced by the reality of Disney Princess Show, and that’s not eugene’s fault or any character’s fault, it’s a corporate issue and writing issue.
oh and also personally i think eugene’s biggest flaw in the new dream relationship is he has a tendency to enable rapunzel’s worst impulses via unquestioning support - a little healthy skepticism can be very good for a relationship vs just being your partner’s yes man. so when i imagine a character trajectory for him post-series it involves eugene getting more comfortable pushing back when rapunzel is pursuing ideas that are bad in some way.
#rta#new dream#tldr complicated feelings but ultimately i do like him for rapunzel#and just wish the narrative hadn’t been SO disney princess show but it is what it is yknow?

song | Trust Fund Baby - Why Don’t We
pairing | Suna Rintarou x Reader
words | 1.8k
warning(s) | The reader has undertones of someone who’s sort of mean and sadistic? The story also relates the reader to a snake. I like snakes. I think they’re cool. But if you’re scared of snakes and you’re uncomfortable with the idea of being referenced to a snake,,, don’t read, I guess?
author’s note | I rewrote this five fricking times and I still hate it but I’m not writing this again so have this

Confidence.
He could feel it radiating off you in waves. Your presence diffused into the gym, alerting every person in the room of your arrival. Attention was drawn to you like moths were drawn to the light, every pair of eyes magnetised to your form by the gym door.
Kita instantly rushed over to greet you politely, the details of your conversation too far away to be heard. For a brief moment, Suna registered just how well the two of you looked together.
L/N Y/N, the representative and top student of his class, the newly-elected second-year secretary of the student council. No one doubted that you would take the president position in your third year, not with the ‘perfect student’ image you had going on.
Kita Shinsuke, also top in grades, captain of the volleyball club, well-liked by the staff and students alike due to his politeness and nature.
The two of you looked like a perfect imitation of what a modern royalty would be like. A combination of grace, elegance, and a face that was hardly fazed by anything. Something similar to bitterness ate away in the bottom of Suna’s heart as he turned away, muttering about putting more practice into his blocks.
“What was she looking for you for?” He overheard Aran asking.
“Oh, she’s filling in some missing information for our club. She came over to clarify some details.” Kita answered easily.
Suna wasn’t really surprised when a couple third years, belonging to the student council committee- Showed up on the doorsteps of your shared class, asking to see you. Later on, he learned that the entire council body had brought up your name when asked which second-year should be elected as the secretary. You were well-known, even among the third years, as someone who possessed high intellect and organisation abilities, so it wasn’t a shock that your name was the one that nearly everyone suggested.
If only they knew.
If only they knew that you weren’t completely that ‘perfect student’ act that you’d put up.
If only they knew just how cunning, sly, and sarcastic you really were.
»»——⍟——««
If Suna had to describe you in one word, it would be snake.
You were the definition of elegance, grace, and beauty. Every movement you made was meticulously calculated and not a single joule of energy was wasted or passed off as inefficiently used. There was never a hair out of place, and your skirt was never creased, no matter how long you had been sitting at your seat.
Of course, Suna hadn’t always thought of you as a snake. It was only after that one fine summer day in his first year that his perception of you took a 180 turn, revealing to him what you truly were like.
He had been on his way home, bag slung over his shoulder, when he caught the slight noise that seemed like a whimper. Never one to leave his nose out of someone else’s business, Suna slunk around, careful to stick to the shadows until the shocking sight befell his eyes.
“So, you’re the one who’s been bullying [your brother’s name]?” The voice that dripped from your lips was distasteful, as if the junior high student that you had cornered in the alley was a filthy peasant compared to your royal status. “You don’t look very fierce now, do you?”
If sarcasm was an art, then you’d probably be a DaVinci-level expert. He would even go as far as calling you a prodigy. And if there was a championship for the world’s most sarcastic human being, he would instantly sign you up. There was no doubt that you’d take home the no.1 trophy in that category (not that you weren’t already taking home trophies in other competitions, of course, he overheard that you recently dominated an advanced maths competition).
“I— I’m sorry!” The student shivered under your piercing gaze. “I— I won’t touch him again, I promise—!”
The laugh you responded with was overly sweet, combined with something from a Disney movie villain. If the movie also, by chance, happened to have ‘horror’ as its’ genre. Your eyes carried a maniacal threat that Suna believed wholeheartedly that you were capable of carrying out. “Bold of you to assume I’d even let you do it again.” You whispered, just loud enough for Suna to catch your words.
The junior high student scrambled off, too busy getting away to notice Suna by the entrance of the alley. He slipped away before you reappeared at the beginning of the alley, having fixed your hair and flattened your skirt.
You looked like a snake that had just finished a very satisfying meal. Suna could hardly believe that he had just heard you— the pride and joy of every teacher, the ‘perfect student’— spitting insults and threats at 200 words per minute, all while maintaining a ‘polite’ and ‘sweet’ tone.
He was a little breathless after the whole ordeal. He could barely imagine what you would say to him if you’d caught him listening— But damn, part of him wanted to find out if he could withstand your literature-form venom. Truly, you were a snake— A creature that could hold its’ elegance even as your tore your prey apart (verbally).
Suna always liked snakes.
»»——⍟——««
“You’ve been spending a lot of time with L/N, Kita.” Aran teased, Suna overhearing as he stepped into the locker room for morning practice. Freezing in his tracks, the middle blocker curved right round the bend, staying out of sight. “There’s been a lot of rumours about how nice the two of you look together.”
The volleyball captain only hummed in response, which, for some reason, pissed the hell out of Suna.
“Come on, tell me something.” The other third-year complained. “She’s really pretty, I’d totally see why you’d go for her.”
Something about the situation made Suna’s blood boil. He bit back his rising anger, setting aside the cause for the moment. Why was he getting so riled up? He never cared much about things in general, anyway, so... So why was the image of you and Kita, matching polite smiles on your lips— Why did it make him so furious he had to physically resist the urge to punch a wall?
“The two of you do look nice together, though.” Aran continued as Suna pushed down the urge to strangle his upperclass-man. “Gives me the vibes of—”
Before Aran could finish his sentence, the dark-haired middle blocker marched into the locker room, apologising for how loudly he had slammed the door open. “Sorry.” He drawled lazily, restraining the lava-hot anger in his blood. “I pushed too hard.”

You didn’t even blink, much less jump when Suna appeared abruptly by your desk. Instead, you simply set down your pencil and gave him a warm smile. “Can I help you with something?”
Ever the helpful class president, Suna bit back to himself. No, no, he wanted you to like him. Not get a bad impression of him. “Do you... Think you could help me with the physics homework?”
“It’s due tomorrow.” You said slowly, both of you aware that the assignment was well over forty pages. “Have you... Tried it?”
“Yes.” He answered. “I’ve got a few questions I need help with. Are you free to stay back today?”
This raised a tentative eyebrow from you. “Don’t you have volleyball practice?”
Dammit, why did you have to have such a good memory.
“Academics are more important than the club sometimes.” He shrugged. “I’ve got permission to skip.” No, he didn’t.
“Alright then. I’ll meet you in the library after school.”

He watched you through hooded eyes as you reviewed his work. So you did know how to let loose, Suna murmured to himself in amusement, eyeing your untucked blouse and the beige sweater you’d thrown on in a defence against the library’s air-conditioning.
“You’ve got most of the parts down, which bits do you need help with?”
The rest of the time was spent going over the questions, your patience filling the silence along with his occasional ‘ohs’. Your handwriting flooded through his homework in neat rows, providing an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide on how to work through the questions, for revision purposes.
“So.”
You broke the silence, the two of you walking side by side, leaving the school together because he offered to buy you some food as a payment for the tutoring.
“Are you going to tell me why you faked confusion and asked me to tutor you?”
He winced. How could he forget that you were always straight to the point?
“What do you mean?” The look on your face clearly said ‘feigning ignorance, eh?’.
“I’m going to be frank with you,” You deadpanned. “You’re among the best at physics in our class. Some of the questions you asked me to help you through were ones that had been discussed in classes, and I know that you are listening even though you have your head on the table.”
Alright, so he had under-predicted exactly how observant and attentive you were.
“Then why did you agree to help me?”
“You saw me that day, didn’t you?”
He stopped walking. “Which day?”
“That day. In our first year. When I threatened that junior high kid in the alley.” You stopped too, to turn your expressionless gaze on him. “You’ve looked at me differently since that day. I heard someone else’s breathing at the alley, but I didn’t see anyone so I figured they’d ran. I guessed it was you.”
“... Yeah.”
“You don’t seem to mind.”
“Mind what?”
“The fact that this...” You gestured to yourself. “Is a lie. This whole ‘perfect student’ image is an act that I put up to please my parents. I’m actually someone who has really mean thoughts. I could be a really toxic friend. I’m also probably a sadist.”
Suna blinked quietly at you, running your words through his head a couple more times for good measure. “You remind me of a snake.”
In that one sentence, you realised that if there was one person in the world that was going to be fine with your personality the way it was, that person would probably be Suna Rintarou. The two of you continued your walk to the takoyaki shop Suna offered to buy you food from, continuing meaningless chatter on the journey.
“Is that a good or bad thing?”
“I like snakes.”
“That’s cool. Me too.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, I think they’re pretty cool. They’re like spiders, except they’re not insects. I don’t like insects very much.”
“Hmm. I like snakes cause I think they’re really elegant. And pretty.” He paused for a moment. “Like you.”
