I want to add into this with my own experience as someone who was never grounded/severely punished/got my phone taken away vs my friends who did.

A lot of my friends would get in serious trouble if they missed curfew, they would get grounded, get their phones taken away, had to do a bunch of extra chores etc. And yet they still missed curfew a lot. The punishment was short term (it had a limit date) and they felt like they were rebelling against their parents for coming home late.

I was never punished for missing curfew. I was told off sure, but most importantly, my mum told me that if I wasn't home at the time I said I would be, they would worry about me. I also could choose my own curfew (within something reasonable if it was a school night - and if my parents didn't agree with the time I gave then we calmly discussed it and came to a common curfew time for the day), and the time could be different from one day to the next, so I felt a sense of responsibility to be home by the time that I had chosen.

There was one time when I was 12 (just before I got a mobile phone) where I said to my parents I would be home by 19h (basically unless specified I had to be home before my dad got home, which would be around then), except I got lost and I only got home at 21h. (Long story short, my parents called the cops and my school, and I tried to call them but no adult wanted to lend me their phone, it was a whole thing)

I wasn't grounded tho. The next day (or the following weekend, I don't really remember the details) we went to buy me a phone. And from then on, if I got lost, or if there was a problem with public transport, I would call and let them know. And I never missed curfew again.

My friends did tho. A lot. And they tried to convince me that I should stay out longer etc. But my parents installed this sense of responsibility in me, to be home at a certain time, not because of the consequences of if I didn't, but out of respect for the fact that we were living together. Which most of my friends didn't understand. (At least not at 16)

Long story short: punishing your kids because they miss curfew is not the way to go, instead explain to them why this curfew is in place.

I am exceptionally lucky in that my parents never hit me, grounded me, confiscated my things, banned me from my hobbies or threatened any of these actions to make me behave as a kid. as an adult it has made me realise how very very long a road most people have to traverse before they can take a statement like 'no rule that must be enforced by threat is legitimate' seriously.

"Joy Spence, 21, said she visited emergency departments at two hospitals in St. John's over the course of nearly two weeks this May.

What began as weakness and abdominal pain on her right side quickly deteriorated into blacking out from the agony in her torso.

But no matter how dire her symptoms got, doctors kept sending her home.

"They would just tell me, 'Your bloodwork's normal, there's nothing we can do.' They would send me home, then same thing again," she said. "I would go back again. They would get me to do the bloodwork, say everything's normal."

Ultrasound and CT scans apparently turned up nothing, but Spence, in such severe pain, says she had no option but to keep returning to the hospital, where she says she was eventually left screaming in a waiting room, ignored by hospital staff.

"If somebody doesn't help me, I'm going to die," she recalls wailing, watching doctors and nurses pass her by.

At one point, she was dismissed outright by a walk-in clinic nurse, she adds.

"Somebody said to me, 'I don't know what you expect me to do,'" she said. "'You're a healthy 21-year-old young female.'"

One night, she says, her boyfriend had to help her into an ambulance. Spence was in so much pain she couldn't stay conscious and stand on her own.

"I remember the man in the ambulance telling me … how often he sees other young women going into the hospital and seeing them be misdiagnosed and not taken seriously," she said, speaking through tears.

"He said that he would do his best to … get things going for me."

Spence says she went to an ER at the Health Sciences Centre or St. Clare's Mercy Hospital about 10 times over a 12-day period, beginning on May 21. She also visited her family doctor, who could do little except tell her to speak directly to the surgeon at Health Sciences Centre, she said.

Each time she saw a doctor, she says, she was sent home and told to dance around her living room or do yoga to cure what physicians believed was anxiety or sluggish bowels.

"I had so many laxatives," Spence recalls. "I would tell them … nothing's even coming out anymore. It's not just this, I don't think. But no, they were dead set on the constipation and only constipation. Like, it can only be that."

Spence says doctors only began to take her seriously once she began vomiting in a Health Sciences Centre hallway. The contents of her stomach were green and black.

An older doctor walking past her happened to notice, stopping in his tracks. Spence says he immediately identified the issue as appendicitis.

At that doctor's urging, Spence was finally wheeled into an operating room, where she says her burst appendix — now gangrenous — was removed.

"I think when I walked into the room and they seen a 21-year-old young girl, they immediately dismissed me and thought that there couldn't be anything wrong with me," Spence said.

"I was not on their minds and not on their radar. And if they didn't have that preconceived idea of me, those thoughts wouldn't have been formed and maybe I would have gotten the proper care that I should have."

Spence is still struggling to recover from her ordeal. Physically, she's now fine: her appendix was removed and her stitches have healed.

But she's lost an alarming amount of weight, she says, wakes up gasping in the middle of the night and can't stop herself from crying whenever she remembers the hospital.

"I've been losing a lot of hair," she said. "Mentally, it's just been a struggle."

Spence only received an apology from the health authority after CBC News requested comment and confirmed that Spence had done an interview — a move she says felt hollow and frustrating, since the manager who called her didn't give her an explanation about why she was repeatedly ignored while waiting to be admitted.

The ripple effect from her illness, and how she says she was treated when seeking care, has uprooted her life. She's taken a year off her studies in Memorial University's social work program and has lost her job. She's looking for trauma therapy, but now doesn't have the money to pay for it, she says.

"I think as young women we're always told what we're supposed to do, how we're supposed to think, and not to trust our instincts," she said.

"But most of the time … the gut instinct is right. I knew I was sick. I knew what was happening wasn't right, and I could have died if I didn't keep going back to the hospital.

"If I had listened to those doctors and went back home — what could have really happened?""

Warring States Hatake OC things !

Continuing the warring states era Hatake oc train as I try to fill up all 21 slots for the clan !!! I honestly don't know if I'll make all 21, but I'd like to at least give them all names, just to make the world feel lived in. I might ask someone else to donate an oc or two in the future to guest star in the cast, idk

But anyways !!!! In a clan who loves to adopt, it stands to reason that they ofc have people among them who weren't born Hatake.

With that said: Pyromaniac explosion enthusiast Hatake who was a failed bloodline theft anyone ???

Both Sora and Tsuki are pretty fucking horrendous towards Tetsuo, but in large part it's Tsuki leading the charge. Sora follows his lead, as he's the first friend she made in the clan. They're honestly pretty close

Meanwhile: Sora remains the biggest Haruka fan ever. Being saved from the bloodline thief camp by the woman really cemented her in her mind as her hero.

After Sora lost her arm at 12 when playing with an explosion seal she'd explicitly been told not to play with, Tsuki proposed they learn to do hand signs together.

Sora would eventually be able to figure out how to do pull off a jutsu with only one hand, but it takes a long time to get there— and even when she is there, it still takes longer than if she had 2 hands. Working with Tsuki, they can both pull off just about any jutsu as fast as any one person can. Faster, even

I was gonna draw 2 more pages for this, of the actual drowning attempt, but I got tired and wanted to post this today so you get a summary of what comes next instead. (Maybe I'll finish drawing it and post it separately another day)

Tsuki and Sora bullied Tetsuo pretty relentlessly till the boys were about 13, when Tsuki took things a step too far and basically tried to drown Tetsuo. Tetsuo fought back, beating both Tsuki and Sora's asses pretty soundly— and catching Haruka's attention in the process.

Seeing Tetsuo fend off the other two made up Haruka's mind, and she declared he'd be her new heir. Which he... didn't actually want to be. Oops!

Sora was pretty effectively scared out of bullying Tetsuo any further, and Tsuki mellowed out a good amount— though he remained mischievous, but that was pretty standard for him.

The blue tint of Tetsuo's skin would fade only some months later as he grew out of his Hoshigaki traits and into his Hatake blood. This also helped to lessen teasing from the other kids, along with the whole "he's the new clan heir now" thing.

Good for him.

The next day Tetsuo is super pissy and sleep deprived while Tsuki is suspiciously smug and well rested. On the bright side, Tetsuo has officially learned his lesson and will now refuse to let Tsuki ever give anyone anything he's drawn ominous spirals on.

As adults, Tetsuo and Tsuki are... fine, honestly. They're friends, in a way. Might even be counted as close— or as close as you can be, with Tsuki.

The fact that Tsuki got himself permanantly posessed by an Uzu spiral demon on that mission gone wrong in Wave doesn't make things as complicated than you'd think. Tetsuo seems to often land himself in the position of acting as Tsuki (and often times Sora's) handler.

I had a few more things I wanted to draw, but ran out of time. I'll probably just try and draw and post it later. No Sora piercing lore, Daisuke introduction post or full Tetsuo drowning comic for you!!! (Yet)

There are many things that frustrate me with the writing of Annabeth in the PJO TV Show, but I think one thing that I haven’t seen people talk much about is the mini-arc of Percy needing to help Annabeth with her sense of fun/humanity.

Just so we’re clear, I absolutely hate this arc.

Prior to the show’s premiere, I believe there was a quote from Rick discussing new-ish things that we’d see in the show, and one of those things was Percy helping Annabeth “tap into her humanity”. I can’t find the exact quote, but it should be on the series update Twitter account if you search it.

When I first read this quote, I wasn’t exactly sure what it meant, but I thought maybe we’d get an expansion of the theme of forgiveness that we got in the original books, or maybe we’d get an arc about Annabeth’s pride and how that gets in the way of her relationships with others. Or maybe they’d try and break down the ways in which Annabeth helps to uphold the gods’ ways of doing things, and align her more with the mortal point of view (which they essentially did, but not the overall point).

What I certainly wasn’t expecting was for them to strip Annabeth of most, if not, all of her smaller/softer traits, and give her this unusually stoic and stiff personality, where she suddenly has no familiarity with casual aspects of the mortal world (movies, Disney world, common idioms), and needs Percy to introduce these concepts to her in an effort to “unlock” her humanity.

What.

The.

Fuck.

Words cannot emphasize enough how much I despise this arc. Not only is it entirely nonsensical for Annabeth not to be familiar with these things (she was with her dad at least until the age of 7 and she goes to a camp full of other children who are regularly in contact with the mortal world; do you seriously expect me to believe that at no point in her 12 years of life, she never saw a single film, heard of Disneyworld, or heard common idioms and slang terms from her camp-mates? Seriously???)

But ALSO!

Book!Annabeth had PLENTY of humanity to go around! Even with her pride and initial coldness towards Percy, she plays hackeysack with him and Grover on the first day of their quest! She has a cute silly crush/admiration/infatuation on Luke. She nerds out big time over the St. Louis Arch! She’s the first to steal clothing from Waterland! She screams and cries when she encounters the mechanical spiders! She has an expression of sadness when she shares her backstory about Thalia and Luke! She gets lost in her little construction game at the Lotus, so much so that Percy has to use her phobia to pull her out of the trance! She grabs Percy’s hand when they first enter the Underworld because she’s scared! She tears up when it’s time to leave Cerberus!

And you stripped her of all these things, because you’re so desperate to overemphasize the Percabeth romance, and you felt that it was absolutely necessary to have Percy educate Annabeth on “unlocking humanity”??? Why!!!!

Not only did Book!Percy help Annabeth discuss things about bad parents and approaching forgiveness, but Book!Percy already had something important to offer Annabeth: loyalty, trustworthiness, and reliability. You didn’t need to take away her already-present traits and wits to convince us that Percy was the type of person she needed in her life, because we can already see what he offers her in the books. So why oh why did you feel the need to give us the silly “tap into your humanity” arc? Why did you turn her personality into something that it wasn’t? Why did you take away her depth just so her character could better serve Percabeth?

I don’t even necessarily agree with the criticism that this version of Annabeth feels like it prioritizes Percabeth more, but I can see why people made that complaint. Y’all took away so much of what made this character endearing, because you felt like it was a much bigger priority to have Percy help her unlock humanity than to let her be human prior to meeting him and outside of him. Not only does her personality get shafted, but her relationships with other people get shafted too! Her interactions with Luke are affection-less, she sent Grover off on his own in the Lotus so she could go off with Percy, and I don’t even think that she and Chiron interacted once this season; I don’t even think she mentioned the part about her calling him to come pick her up after she attempted living at home again!

But don’t worry; we’ll get plenty of scenes doubling down and tripling down on how Percy is the center of her world now! Yay!

He screams until his throat is raw, searching for common ground in the dim lighting of a sold-out arena. Having complex emotions can be a blessing and a curse; on one hand, he feels most validated when he finds the right words to capture his view. On the other hand, it’s isolating when the words won’t flow so easily from his lips. It isn’t until Vessel meets you that he begins to feel the burden of speaking his mind has lifted a bit. You were placed together on a tour through the states, your band just beginning to show out as a rising name in the scene. The man couldn’t say for sure whether he’d heard of you before, but he figured it wouldn’t hurt to listen to one of your songs before a show to get a read on your music style.

As the last few notes rang out, Vessel found himself staring into space. Lost in the agony laid bare to all who listened closely enough. It was a sort of primal yearning he’d felt before. One that was imprinted on his very bones. He’d written it out and heard it discussed a million times over, yet the way you captured pain tugged at his heartstrings. From then on, Vessel couldn’t deny his fascination with you. He would never show it, of course. You were both professionals. Since this was your first real tour experience, he couldn’t risk tarnishing it by following you like a lost puppy.

Vessel had never been as smooth with conveying his affections in spoken word as he was with his songs. Although you seemed sweet and approachable for the most part, he was a shy man by nature. That said, something about you made him want to open up. Vessel desired to bond with you, sharing old wounds and their resulting scars. It was roughly two months before he mustered up enough confidence to have a one-on-one conversation with you. After that, the dynamic between you two seemed to shift. Words flowed easier, compliments became abundant, and suddenly you were his confidant. Ves settled on being friends and tour mates, packing away his growing feelings for your sake. But he wasn’t the only one pining in silence, unbeknownst to him.

You began this tour with rather low expectations. Your band was new to all things business-oriented, and you weren’t familiar with most of the lineup. You set your standards to surviving and hopefully making a friend or two. Then you met him. Vessel seemed reserved; you never saw him around without some form of mask to shroud his identity. You knew it was part of Sleep Token’s personas, and it never bothered you much. Who were you to demand someone’s true self or their face time? So you’d always respected their privacy, turning around when one needed to lift a mask for water or to replace it with a less sweaty backup.

Tonight hadn’t gone according to plan. Your poor, uncoordinated bassist had clocked his head on the edge of the cabinet door when trying to pack away the communal copy of Cards Against Humanity. You had quickly sat him down and examined the spot; it wasn’t too bad, but it seemed to be bleeding like a stuck pig. With the other members asleep and no first aid kit on hand, you give Chris a towel to hold pressure on the laceration and head for the bus two spots down. III was the one to open the door after you knocked rather quietly. You weren’t sure they’d still be awake, but the lights in the windows gave you hope.

“What can we do you for?” Came his cheery tone, stepping aside as an offer to come inside. You shook your head.

“Sorry to bother you guys, but Chris smashed his forehead on the corner of the cabinet and it’s bleeding pretty bad. He’s alright but we used up our kit after that broken beer bottle incident last week.”

He nodded, seemingly racking his brain for something. “I think we might have one, I know there’s plasters somewhere if nothing else. I’ll look around and come over there.”

You turn on your heel and walk briskly back in the direction you came. Upon arrival, Chris was in the small kitchenette holding the blood-stained rag to the affected area. You both settle on a bench seat next to the counter and wait for word from the guys. When the tall man crossed the threshold of the front door, you almost did a double take. You hadn’t been expecting to see him out of his stage gear, but it made sense given the hour.

Vessel held a flashlight in one hand and a small, red box in the other. “Hey, heard you guys had an accident. You alright, mate?”

Chris nodded the best he could, in spite of his splitting headache. Vessel made quick work of cleaning the wound that had mostly stopped bleeding. His long fingers unraveled the gauze pad and carefully placed it before securing it with two larger band-aids. You couldn’t help but smile at the sight; for all his mystery and moody aura, Ves was a lover at heart. You hadn’t taken notice of it before, but it seemed obvious now. The man cared deeply for those around him. You feel a thud against your shin, and lock eyes with your friend. You’re met with a knowing smirk.

“With the way you’re looking at him, you’d think he was bandaging you up!” Chris chuckled as you prod him sharply in the side with one finger. Vessel’s head was down, a hint of red across his cheeks. Cute.

“I wasn’t looking, I’m just admiring his kind nature. Not like you’d know; remember the time you and Amanda took me out with the pool noodle? Y’all just laughed at me like maniacs after I swallowed all that pool water!” You made a sweeping motion with your hands to paint the picture for the taller male. He shook his head with a smile.

“I’m just trying to help out. Besides, gives me a chance to talk with you more.”

Wordlessly, Chris stand up and claps his hands together. “Well, it was a pleasure seeing you Ves. Thanks for the patchwork. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to give you two lovesick freaks some space. Talk, bond, kiss. Just keep it down so I can maintain my plausible deniability.��� With that, he disappeared to the back bunks of the bus.

The silence that followed was all-consuming. Neither of you were sure how to move forward. The connection was evident. The tension was palpable. But you both had long histories of anxious behaviors, and old habits die hard. That said, you only lasted about 30 seconds before deciding the potential reward was worth the risk. Scooting closer to Ves who now sat on the same bench seat, you chanced a look at his face. His eyes held something akin to amusement.

“So what did you want to talk about?” Your gaze falls back to the floor where your slipper scraped repeatedly against a loose thread of carpet. It was a soothing motion as you awaited an answer.

“I think I’d like to know how long you’ve liked me.”

“Well,” you began, “I’ve honestly been into you since before we met. When I saw you guys live for the first time at that festival last summer, the one where we played on the small stage. I caught you guys’ set after we wrapped, and I was absolutely enamored.”

Vessel inched closer, his right hand coming to rest gently over your left. “Yknow, I saw you that time. You managed to get to the front and the first thing I noticed was your pretty eyes. They sparkled when the sun came.”

You took the leap to close the gap between the two of you, Ves meeting you halfway for a soft kiss. You practically melted. He smelled like soap and a hint of incense, you wanted to bury your face in his threadbare tee and never come up for air. He gently guided you to lay back against the cushioned bench while his warm hands slid down your sides. His fingers dipped just below the fabric of your sleep shorts to press into the plush skin of your hips. The firm kneading movements elicited a strangled noise from you.

“It’s okay, baby, I’m right here. Gonna hold you and make you feel good.” He murmured against your lips before making his way down to your neck with sweet pecks. One hand remains at your hip, massaging while the other slips your loose fitting bottoms to the side. A deep satisfied hum sounds through his chest, and it makes you ache. He carefully pushes your legs up and apart once again to admire the view.

“You really are gorgeous everywhere, darling.” A quick peck to your lips. “Magnificent.” Another peck against your shoulder. “Breathtaking.” He’s now level with your groin, eyes taking you in like a desperate animal. No more words leave his lips before they attach to where you crave him most.

Bucking your hips, your hand flies to your mouth as you fight to stay in control. Your band has seen you in many embarrassing situations over the years, but this would be one you’d never live down if anybody caught you. Vessel moans against you, and you bite down on the heel of your palm to stifle your own needy sounds.

It isn’t long before he has you on the edge. You were so close to your release, but you just needed a little more to push you over the line. Mustering what rational thought you had left, you plead for Ves to add a finger. You swear you hear a growl, and then there’s two long digits pushing lightly into you. He prods and curves expertly until finding the spot that makes your hips pause as you grind down on his hand. You let out a whimper as you feel the dam finally burst, making a mess of yourself and Vessel in the process. He lets you catch your breath and relax for a moment before slowly removing his fingers. You pull him in for a kiss, hands beginning to roam before he takes them in his own and looks at you.

“Hey. I really like you, like a lot. I don’t wanna rush anything. I know that’s a bit odd to say after I just had my mouth on you, but I’d really just like to take you out proper before we go any further. Would that be okay? I just…I wanna make sure I do this right.”

You feel a lump forming in your throat as you gaze into his eyes, a sea of uncertainty beneath. Nodding, you give him a smile and pull him closer for a hug. “I’d really like that, Ves. I wanna give us the best chance at working out, we can go as slow as you feel comfortable with.”

Vessel beams at you, lifting you up to relocate to the comfier loveseat in the middle of the bus. “Wonderful. I say we watch some cheesy horror movies for our first date.”

You chuckle and nod while grabbing the remote, “agreed. You pick the movie, I’ll make the popcorn.”

For now I just listened below the characters in the poster, and who their Stranger Things counter part is. I'm finishing up some scenes I redrawn, so hopefully I can get those up too (And introduce you to more people in the universe).

So, first up, we got the boys. We got...

° Craig Tucker - 12 - Dungeon Master/Thief - Middle Child - "Leader" of the group. Basically, I saw fan art of Creek being Mileven and I just had to try doing it on my own. Craig, just like in SP, is like the leader of his own group in this AU. I also made his D&D counterpart the same as TSoT, a thief instead of a paladin. But despite being a thief, he's still the heart of the group. Just like in Stranger Things, he's the one to find and allow Tweek to stay in his home. ° Token "Tolkien" Black || 12 || Ranger || Only Child || "Brawns over Brains" of the group. Still a bit of a rich kid in this AU, and lives with his two parents. He tends to butt heads with the others when Tweek comes into the story, feeling a bit left out and untrusting of the kid with superpowers; But eventually that all gets cleared up. In this AU, he's the one that goes to camp in S3, and has a long distance relationship with his GF, `Nicole, whom he met at camp. ° Clyde Donovan || 12 || Elf Cleric || Only Child || The "Voice of Reason" of the group. Lives with his single mother, Betsy, and their cat: Mr. Kitty (Stealing Cartman's cat here for this). I see him sharing a lot of traits with Dustin, but he's also a bit like Lucas too in this AU (He's more of the sporty one, and his GF, Bebe appears in S2 taking the place of Max). ° 011 - AKA: "Tweek" (Later: Tweek Marsh) - 12 - Mage - Superpowered Lab Rat Same kind of origin, stripped away from his mother and placed inside South Park Lab. After escaping he's found by the boys and ends up staying at Craig's house. He has the 011 tattoo on his wrist, but instead of being given the name "El", Craig gives him the name "Tweek" because of his fidgety moments (I see him being spazzy in this AU from the stress he felt from the lab, rather than the drug-induced coffee).

Then, we got the Kerns, which replaces the Byers. Seeing that Sharon has multiple last names in SP, I chose Kern 'cause it sounded better than the others.

° Jimmy Valmer Kern - 12 - Bard - Youngest Child - "Ride or Die" Comedy until he's very last breath. May or may not have punched Vecna in the face while in the upside down. I unfortunately have to make our poor boy Jimmy as Will. I promise he won't be as neglected once he returns like his ST counterpart. He's D&D character is a bard like in TSoT, and for now, I have no romance planned for him. Just good old family love.

° Sharon Kern - 40s - Single Mother - Will do anything for her children. I thought she was the perfect choice for Joyce after seeing the "Spooky Fish" episode. Sharon literally was burying bodies for her son Stan, and making sure he wouldn't end up in jail (For something he didn't do). He lives a sad life of donuts and alcohol, until the search for Jimmy sparks something inside of him, and spirals his life into the supernatural forces caused by the lab. He eventually has to get Sharon involved to solve this crime. ° Dr. Alphonse Mephesto - 50s - Genetic Engineer/Crazed Local Scientist - "Papa" to a lot of children that ain't even his (I mean, he named his kids after numbers. Can we call CPS now?). I didn't know who else to pick, but for some reason Mephesto might actually be a good choice for Brenner. You'll learn more about him later on.

No doubt suffering your own hell.

Maybe you got adopted, maybe you waited until you were old enough to leave....

In a life like this, naturally you get involved with the occult.

Maybe you did leave Prehevil eventually in the end.

But fate managed to drag you back.

You remember your brother, how could you not?

You both may have been young, yes...

Yet you couldn't forget how he looked... even now.

When you went on that train back to your hometown, you weren't expecting to see your brother again.

Far as you know, your brother died at war.

However... when that train stopped at Prehevil and you were forced to see the hell your home became...

You saw your brother right there with you.

You both couldn't believe it when you saw one another.

You two originally just... stared in disbelief.

Levi too was relieved to see you alive and mostly well.

Even if he himself isn't doing the best.

Levi, for pretty much all his life after losing you, has trouble getting close to others.

The only person he's ever been close to is you.

Even now he sticks beside you like when you were young.

Levi wants to leave his past behind, but you're the only good part of it.

When he flees into the city, he urges you to follow.

It's almost like when you were kids... just more monsters.

Levi would keep trying to avoid the other contestants, wanting to keep you and himself out of harm's way.

Even now your brother loves you, just happy to have you back.

He hates that you are so concerned over his drug addiction.

Yet he also feels oddly warm to see you still love him.

I feel seeing you after so long makes him protective.

Yes, war has made him nihilistic.

But you're just about the only thing he cares about now.

It feels... strange to see your childhood home in ruins.

You wish you were both able to meet under better circumstances.

But funnily enough...

You feel nothing much has changed in terms of the bond you two share...

Well... not until later.

I imagine Levi would react similarly to the other things I've written for him.

He's overprotective and now views himself more as a weapon for you to use.

She knew she needed to act fast. Clenching her fists tighter, she felt a surge of dark determination. Her initial plan had been so carefully crafted, but it had begun to backfire, and now the stakes were higher than ever.

Mina gritted her teeth, watching from the shadows as you stood among your friends, oblivious to the danger that still lurked. Yunho and Jongho hovered protectively near you, their loyalty clear in their constant presence. Every time she thought she had a chance to get to Hongjoong—or even you—they were there, blocking her path, whether intentionally or not. It was maddening.

She knew she couldn’t strike with them always by your side, and the presence of the rest of your group didn’t help either. Mingi, San, and even the ever-watchful Yeosang weren’t far from you, all of them invested in the upcoming task and keeping an eye on one another. There was never a moment of vulnerability.

Mina clenched her fists. She needed to get them alone, to isolate Hongjoong—or you—from the group, but every attempt so far had been thwarted. If she couldn’t catch you off guard here, she’d have to think bigger. Something that would shake all of them.

Mina stood amidst the crowd, her sharp eyes locked on you as you sat between Hongjoong and Mingi, with the rest of your friends—Yunho, Jongho, San, Wooyoung, Seonghwa and Yeosang—all hovering nearby. The group’s protective circle around you was impenetrable, their lighthearted chatter masking the subtle vigilance that kept Mina at bay.

Her frustration simmered beneath the surface. She clenched her fists so tightly her nails bit into her palms. Each time she glanced in your direction, you were laughing or sharing a knowing glance with one of them, oblivious to the storm brewing just a few feet away. Mingi was talking animatedly about something, and Hongjoong... he was just as guarded, casting occasional glances at you, as if reassuring himself that you were still there.

The bond between you all was strong, and it only made Mina angrier. She needed to find a way to break that bond—to drive a wedge between you and the boys, or better yet, strike at the heart of the group. If she could take you out of the equation, everything would unravel.

Mina moved swiftly, weaving through the crowd as she made her way toward the bottom of the stands, where her father—still disguised as Mad-Eye Moody—stood observing the scene. Her mind buzzed with a plan, one that would ensure her victory, one that would tear apart the bond you had with the boys.

As the crowd erupted in cheers, their attention drawn to Harry's triumphant return, Mina took the opportunity to slip away, her smirk deepening as she followed closely behind you and the boys. The excitement of the crowd provided the perfect distraction, and you, like everyone else, were too caught up in the moment to notice her presence.

You and the others began to move away from the crowd, chatting and laughing, completely unaware of the shadow that trailed you. Mina’s eyes narrowed as she kept her distance, watching for the right moment to strike. Her mind raced with possibilities, each one more tempting than the last.

Moody had moved swiftly as well, his magical eye constantly scanning for threats as he kept an eye on both the crowd and his daughter. He knew she was up to something, but he didn’t stop her. He had his own role to play in this twisted game.

The further you moved from the bustling stands, the quieter it became. Hongjoong was beside you, his hand brushing against yours as he spoke, his voice soft amidst the fading cheers. So, it's not actually "St. Michael"; he's Michael the Archangel.*

I promise I have a point.

Mike Wheeler and I share a similar name, so I was thinking... why Michael? It's a nice name, a popular one, it means "Who is like God?", and it's a callback to two (or four*, I should say) 80s films I love that the Duffers have taken inspiration from:

In The Goonies (1985), the protagonists are Mikey and Brand Walsh. They live in the Northwest with their friends, the Goonies. In the story, the kids are trying to ignore this total ass who has bought their town (very similarly to another total ass who did the same thing to this old lady—) and try to make the most of the hours they have left in each other's company before discovering there's a pirate treasure belonging to "One-Eyed Willy" nearby that they could use to buy back their homes. It's about some kids on their bikes, led by Mikey on an adventure.

Then, there's It (and It: Chapter 2 (various releases)), where Bill has lost his brother Georgie down a storm drain. He doesn't believe there is no way he has simply vanished and is caught between having a good summer with his three friends and trying to discover what really happened to Georgie. When horrific occurrences begin happening throughout their Northeastern town, Bill befriends Beverly, Ben, and Mike, and leads this bunch of kids on their bikes to fight a demon clown.

Then there's E.T. (1982), when Elliott takes in an alien with the help of his brother Michael and they... wow, they were allowed to write any and everything back then. Well, the government comes for the alien, and Elliott and Michael lead a bunch of kids on their bikes to escape with the alien and send it home.

This Mike dude gets around, especially on his bike.

But why the name "Michael"? Why not Bill or Will? Why not Elliott?

Well, Michael the Archangel is sometimes called God's strongest angel. In the Bible during the war in heaven, where Satan—who takes the form of an enormous "red dragon" with multiple heads—and his angels, are cast from heaven, he is the one whom God grants the strength to cast him out. Michael then takes Satan's position in heaven (Rev 12:7-12). Michael was also the angel sent to dispute Satan's claim over Moses's body (Jude 1:9-10) and it should be noted Moses is known as God's friend (Exodus 33:11) even though they disagreed several times.

Early Christians regard Michael as healer, the one to take Satan's place as the accuser (he is sometimes depicted with a scale), and the Archangel—the angel who ranks above all others, like a first knight. Some Catholic teachings (I am not Catholic) tell of Michael as the head of God's Army, the angel of death, the judge of souls, and the patron of the Chosen People of the Old Testament. There are even prayers devoted to him to bless armies heading off to battle. Many protestants recognize the relationship between Michael and God and Christ, even suggesting Michael is Christ before he was born. Now, of course, I don't know how true this is because I'm not the One who made that Decision.

He's also known as the patron "saint" of chivalry, police and militaries, and paramedics.

This sounds a little like our Mike Wheeler. Until the party falls apart in ST3, he's president of AV club, the dungeon master, and has the final decision of who is let into the party. He dislikes Max, but helps her up when she falls, he jumps off a cliff to save Dustin from having his teeth cut out of his face, he protects Lucas from Billy when Steve fought him, and he is very much the one who adopts his friends like a guardian angel.

So, it's almost as if—

—there's another person who uses this imagery and sees these similarities, and this person could really use a guardian angel against a demon right now. Now, we don't know for sure if anyone in the party is religious or spiritual, but we do know at least one artist.

Light's ARG notes - Dear Evelyn

Dear Evelyn (spotify link) is a horror podcast with a few ARG elements! It's just coming out and it's really good. I know some of the people involved (though don't know anything else about the podcast itself) and really like the other podcast on their network, the Creepypasta Book Club. Check em out! There are also some ARG elements. (It looks like you can listen to the podcast without engaging with any of the ARG elements, at least for now, but it's early on and anyways I love an ARG.)

Under the cut I'm dropping a lot of spoiler notes on Episode 1 "introductions" and Episode 2 "The Attic", which is all that's out so far. Really just my notes on the characters and what we know about everything.

I'm taking a break for this in between working on the shorthand code, which... might take me a while. I know nothing about shorthand and never claimed to be good at codes in the first place. XD

Characters

The Payne family

Sparrow Payne - The voice of the show. Sending recordings to get back in touch with their younger sibling, Evelyn. Their father has just died and they've moved back to the old family house in Keen's Cross, Indiana.

Got emancipated at 16, hasn't been back since. Refers to themself as "the scary one" of the siblings.

Evelyn Payne - Sparrow's younger sister. Was more online at a younger age. Also left Keen's Cross early and has been estranged from everyone. Things are really tense with Sparrow, who doesn't even know their address, which Sparrow thinks is fair.

As a kiddo, really morbid and into scary stuff. Made up and was scared of "Gabe the Cave Monster".

On a post-it note on the wall of Evelyn's room, in her handwriting, is "Pale_Horse1392".

Pastor Roger Payne - Sparrow and Evelyn's dad, who recently died. Was always a hardass but really became a pious dick after his wife vanished.

Naomi Payne - Sparrow and Evelyn's mom, who went missing when Sparrow was - I forget but I want to say like 12 years old.

Into new age stuff, not as into the religious stuff, which was a point of conflict in her relationship with Roger.

Wrote extensive diaries.

Sparrow is pretty sure she's dead.

Other characters

Mrs. Rapperty (sp?): Next door neighbor, lives alone in big dirty house. Recluse. Now maybe has Alzheimer's or something. Said Naomi was so beautiful but that she lost the faith and left the kids - all of which was news to Sparrow. She seems to know something about Naomi.

Jake Petty: Gay kid that the kids knew when they were younger, stayed in Keen's Cross. Closer to Evelyn's age.

Officer Petty: Jake's dad. Cop.

Pastor Drayer (sp?): The new pastor. Was really curious about Evelyn at Roger's funeral, despite having never met either of the Payne kids.

The missing person case

According to news report at the end of "introductions", Naomi was: Reported as missing:

4 days after last seen

3 days after authorities were notified

Reported to outside authorities (like, police in another town) BY one of the kids hitchhiking to a nearby town. Guessing that's Sparrow, since Evelyn was very young.

Sparrow tried to get help and answers as a kid but doesn't seem to have known much.

Since she died, the entire case has been publicized and become infamous online, which Sparrow hates. A lot of stuff like Naomi's journals are digitally available.

Naomi's journals

Naomi wrote some every day, almost.

Some missing ones mentioned in "The Attic", including various years. The journals are indexed with letters.

Also lots of albums, almost all of the mom. Lots with the mom and some baby in places that don't look like Keen's Cross, which is confusing to Sparrow.

A lot of the diaries were made public but not these ones Sparrow just found in the attic.

Sparrow mentions one specific entry - 1992 (May 18) - Talking about Mt St Helens erupting, on its anniversary. Naomi tried to get others to leave town - something bad is happening here too.

An excerpt of one of the diaries, written in shorthand, was shared with the episode description. I'm still trying to figure out what it says.

The Payne House

Dad left the kid's rooms mostly untouched since they moved out.

Bunch of stuff in the attic that is padlocked shut. Wild!

As of "The Attic", at Evelyn's suggestion, Sparrow found the key taped to the underside of Dad's night stand.

The attic contained a bunch of Naomi's things and diaries, mostly untouched in interceding years. Unclear how much of this, if any, the police ever saw. There are sections of the diaries - like in shorthand - that definitely never appeared online, and that Sparrow never saw before.

Lautski Week: Day 5 (Change)

Me: Does this count? I’m not sure if this count. Also Me: Of course, this counts! There’s plenty of change that goes on in this AU. This board is a Lautski Warm Bodies AU. For those who may not know what Warm Bodies is, it’s a zombie romance movie/book series. (I have only read the first book but from what I heard, the other books are unnecessary.) While this AU is based mostly on the 2013 movie, there is at least one detail from the book in here.

Steph doesn’t have much going for her, which makes sense since she is a zombie. She doesn’t remember much from her life from before. She spends most of her days walking around the Hatchetfield High School, or what’s left of it. She has made one of the class room her little home with treasures she found on her travels. The only thing she has to look forward is becoming a boney, which is a zombie that has lost all of their skin and is viewed as the final form for zombies.

Meanwhile, Pete lives in a survivor camp that is holding on by a thread, despite what the mayor might say. He lives with his older brother, Ted, and two friends, Ritchie and Ruth. They’re at the bottom of the totem pole of the camp. Pete tries to stay invisible and keeps a low profile in order to survive. But, it’s kinda hard when you’re one of the only kids left and your only other family is known as one of the biggest b*st*rd in town. (And, that was before the zombie apocalypse.) Despite this title, Pete has a loving relationship with Ted.

However, everything changes when Pete, Ted, Ruth, and Richie are put into a supply run with a couple other people. They scavenge around what used to be Hatchetfield Mall. But, they are soon ambushed by zombies, including Steph. During the attack, Steph kills Ted and eats his brain. Through this, she can see Ted’s memories and feels something again. Steph sees everything about Ted: his heartbreak, his descent of being a jerk, his affairs with multiple women, but most importantly, his relationship with his brother. It seems to be the only positive in Ted’s life and Steph can’t help but smile at the memory. Once Steph comes out of the memories, she immediately realizes that Ted’s brother, Pete, is here. In a move that she can’t explain, Steph prevents another zombie from attacking him and makes it look like she’s claiming him as food.

Pete freezes as the zombie girl comes near her. Most of the party is already dead and he can’t find Ted. This is the end. Pete closes his eyes to prepare for the bite but it never comes. Instead, he hears a soft female voice. “P-P-Pete …”

Pete open his eyes in shock. He had never heard a zombie actually talk before. He watched as the zombie touch an open wound and spread her blood all over his face. It then becomes clear that the other zombies can’t smell him. As the zombies starts to leave, the girl zombie pulls him up and has him follow her with the rest of the zombies. As Pete walks away with the zombies, he sees both Richie and Ruth hiding under a table, watching in horror as he is taking away.

After the zombies return to the high school, Steph take Pete to her classroom. Pete find it so ironic that he’ll die at the same place that he had once thought would kill him. However, Steph never goes for him. Instead, she helps Pete get food from the cafeteria and protects him from the other zombies. She reassures him that she’ll lead him back to the survivor camp once the zombie traffic around the school dies down in a few days. In the meantime, the two become closer through explore Steph’s treasures and through talking. (Pete does most of the talking but Steph listens and tries to comfort him.) After a few days, Pete insists to leaving and Steph agrees. However, as they leave, both the zombies and the boneys notices them. While the zombies first tried to attack them, they seem to let them pass. The two start their journey to the survivor camp.

As Steph and Pete’s relationship grows, Steph feels different. She doesn’t feel hungry for brains as before. Her skin starts to have more color. She can say sentences now. And, the biggest of all is she can sometimes feel and hear a beating in her chest. Steph isn’t the only zombie to experience these changes. Many of the zombies at the high school start feeling the same way, including two zombies girls in cheerleading uniforms. Pete starts to wonder if it’s possible for a zombie to become a human again. However, not everyone is open to the change. The boneys refuses the change and will do anything to keep things the way they are. Steph and Pete will have to convince the humans survivors that the zombies can change if they stand a chance against the boneys.

Some other details to note:

Solomon is the mayor of the survivor camp but doesn’t care about the zombies at all, even if his own daughter is one of them.

Like in the movie, Steph does confess to eating Ted with Pete having his suspicions. Pete does leave Steph due to this and trying to protect her from the survivors. He does forgive her.

After Ted dies, he becomes a voice in Steph’s head. At first, he starts slamming her for eating him and taking his brother, adding to her guilt. However, as the story develops, Ted and Steph’s relationship does get better and Ted makes Steph promise to protect Pete.

Before you ask, yes, Max is one of the boneys.

Ruth definitely asks Steph a hundred questions about being a zombie while Richie compares her to zombie/undead anime characters. Pete is in the background, facepalming.

I’m Not A (Violent) Dog, I Don’t Know Why I Bite: Henry Creel Vs Cujo

So, all of the references to dogs and rabies in Stranger Things got me thinking about the ST narrative (specifically Henward’s narrative) versus Cujo.

(Also, everything in this post as of right now applies to both Henry and Edward Creel (especially with how TFS “Henry” seems to not be Henry), but I’m just saying Henry for simplicity’s sake since that’s how they refer to him in TFS.)

So, we all know that on the very very surface level of things, Henry Creel is presented as evil and violent- just like Cujo.

But the reality for Cujo is that he was scared -a scared dog who contracted rabies and had no control over his actions.

And Henry, ESPECIALLY in TFS is the exact same way. A scared boy who contracted the shadow and can’t control his actions. Not an evil boy. Not a violent boy. A scared boy.

And while Cujo works as a fantastic way of explaining Henry’s story, I also think that the Henry-Cujo parallels are 100% intentional. Let’s go through some of them.

So, in TFS, it’s revealed that Henry was in a cave in Nevada when he contracted the shadow/when he changed- just like Cujo, who contracted rabies and changed when he was bitten by a bat in a cave:

And also, Cujo was chasing a rabbit into a cave, which has me staring at a.) all of Henry’s rabbit imagery, and b.) the fact that in TFS, Brenner mentions a pet Creel rabbit that Henry supposedly killed- but we don’t ever see this rabbit or get any other crumbs about it when the Creels are in Hawkins, which to me, implies that the rabbit died in Nevada.

Which makes me wonder if the family pet rabbit got loose, and Henry chased it into the cave, and ended up killing it after being flayed because it was afraid of him (and like I talked about in this post, fear seems to be what triggers the shadow into killing people/animals such as Prancer).

Also, in TFS, when Henry’s seizing, he begins to foam at the mouth- much like a rabid dog/like Cujo. And in ST, Henry talks about how his parents had hoped to cure him by moving to Hawkins, but it didn’t work- much like how there’s no cure for rabies.

And also in TFS, Henry has a line where he says “the monster doesn’t lie,” versus the line in the Cujo book that says “the monster never dies”

Also, when Cujo gets bitten, his only thought is hoping that his owners won’t scold him/call him a bad dog for getting bitten- which makes me think of Henry and how often Virginia scolds him throughout TFS (even for non-shadow related things, which implies that her scolding Henry predates the shadow/cave incident), and makes me wonder what Henry was thinking when he contracted the shadow. If he was just hoping that his mom wouldn’t scold him- hoping that she wouldn’t scold him for losing his Captain Midnight spyglass, perhaps (which was a birthday gift given to him & he lost it in that cave).

Especially with the footage from that ST VR game, where a shadow version of Virginia is scolding Henry & the vibe is that it’s a memory of when Henry just returned from somewhere (based on Alice yelling his name as if she’s searching for him), and I actually think that whole scene is Henry’s memories of when he reunited with his family after leaving the cave in Nevada, which tracks with Alice yelling his name as if she’s been searching for him (as he was missing for 12 hours) and Victor and Virginia both asking Henry what happened/Virginia scolding him.

And especially with how TFS Victor emphasizes that Henry is a “good boy,” it makes me wonder how often Virginia referred to Henry as bad, much like Cujo hoping that they won’t call him a bad dog for getting bitten.

Also, Cujo specifically didn’t want to go home after getting bitten because he was worried that he’d get called a “bad dog”- which makes me wonder how long it took Henry to go home. And if the shadow could’ve been “cured” or even just helped slightly if he had gone home, if even just a warm bath would’ve been enough to expel the shadow in its very early stages (after all, they got a fairly late-stage shadow out of Will with a few heaters and a fire- it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Henry could’ve expelled the shadow if he wasn’t afraid to go home/had gotten home & gotten help/gotten warmed up etc etc- JUST like how a rabies post-exposure prophylaxis only works before you start showing symptoms, so if they’d gotten Cujo a post-exposure prophylaxis before he started showing symptoms…)

Would a warm bath- a bath just like the one Joyce filled for Will in S2, too hot for the shadow but not physically too hot for Will’s skin (see: Joyce testing the temperature with her hand), have saved Henry?

It would explain why Virginia’s shown with the tub so much- if a simple bath could’ve saved him if he’d gone home sooner but he was afraid to go home because of Virginia.

And Brenner also says something during TFS that totally aligns with everything I’ve said here re: good dog/good boy vs bad dog/bad boy and not wanting to go home- TFS Brenner says “you think you can run back home to mommy and be a good boy again?” Much like how Cujo couldn’t run back home and be a good boy again.

It’s got that exact “Henry felt like he couldn’t go home to Virginia after the caves because she would scold him/tell him he was bad,” vibe. Especially since Brenner in TFS tends to pick at Henry’s already-existing insecurities/trauma.

Which ALSO reminds me of Joyce waiting at home for Will in S1/waiting in Will’s room with all of the lamps versus how Virginia in TFS waits in the attic for Henry so that she can scold Henry when he gets home- which would totally track with Virginia and Joyce being opposites/Joyce waiting for Will so that she can welcome him home vs Virginia waiting in the attic for Henry so that she can scold him AND Virginia waiting at home in Nevada when Henry went missing in the caves & waiting there to scold him.

Hell, Virginia during the “waiting in the attic”, scene in TFS even has a DIRECT dialogue parallel to Joyce when she’s waiting in Will’s room:

Also, jumping over to Victor, in Cujo, the father of the family is named Vic. And the son of the family, Tad, is literally described as “sensitive,” just like Henry is:

Henry seems to be what would happen if it had been Tad that went rabid in the Cujo story- if the boy and the dog had swapped places. Henry seems to be a combination of Tad and Cujo.

Which also has me staring directly at 7 year old Henry’s dog:

And how TFS Brenner mentions Henry killing dogs:

And how Henry’s dog looks eerily similar to Will’s dog, Chester, and how Chester was scared/barking at the door on the night Will vanished & how Chester may have started barking at Henry & being scared of him after Henry returned home flayed- and then awhile ago, James also brought up what I talked about in that previously linked post re: fear triggering the shadow & James tied it to the idea of Henry accidentally killing his dog because his dog was scared of him. Which, again, would be sort of like a reverse Cujo situation.

Hell, David Harbour even talks about how he suggested to the Duffers that they should kill pff Chester- which, they may have implemented a similar storyline with Henry having accidentally killed his dog:

And also, in the book, Tad dies of heat exhaustion (he ended up stuck in a hot car trying to get away from Cujo) right as Cujo is killed- which makes me think of how the shadow made Will sensitive to heat/heat was hurting/killing him and how TFS Henry says that he “likes it cold”- and just how both Tad and Cujo’s deaths are paralleled vs Henry being a mixture of Tad and Cujo.

And I’ve talked in this post and this post about the rabies references surrounding Henry, and so we already know that the rabies references are tied to him.

I also talked in this post about the whole “I’m not a dog,” line vs “you’re not a child,” and how that connects to Henry, which, again, demonstrates that Henry is connected to the dog references in ST just like how he’s connected to the rabies references.

Henry Creel isn’t a violent boy- in TFS Victor’s words, Henry’s a “good boy.”

And so, when it comes to analyzing Henry Creel, especially in TFS, it would perhaps not be amiss to point out that he had always tried to be a good boy. He had never wanted to kill anybody. He had been struck by something, possibly destiny, or fate, or only a degenerative disease. Free will was not a factor.

Just like Cujo.

They were both good boys.
