May I share some opinions about Katsuki’s final line the chapter 405? I’ve been trying to understand why fans on both sides are nitpicking on this particular panel and I want to explore what happened.

(Please mind that I’m not a Japanese expert nor a native but I have been studying the language and following both MHA manga and fandom for years, so I do have some experience on the matter. Oh and I’ll declare my Conflict of Interest as a Bakudeku shipper, but I do know how to stand on neutral grounds.)

Jpn: OFA (あいつ) に拭うねーもんは、こっちで拭うってなあああ!!!

Caleb’s version: OFA couldn’t keep you on the ground, but we’ll finish the job and then some!

In this sentence, “OFA” was meant to represent Izuku, as Horikoshi had clearly written for us in superscript. However even if you ignore the double meaning, OFA = Izuku, AM and the vestiges. In this scenario, all of them were already fighting against AFO and Shigaraki on the battlefield. So when Katsuki said that “he” is stepping in, it means exactly that, even though こっち isn’t specifically a singular pronoun, because he was the only other person on that battlefield. There is no “we” in this scene!

(Or if we want to be technical, there’s Edgeshot who’s out of commission. Best Jeanist, Mirio and Gentle are on Troy somewhere and they COULD be part of the collective “we” but they weren’t shown jumping in to help in this chapter either, so very low chance it could allude to them.)

Unless of course, Caleb took it too literally and thought that OFA alludes to the quirk itself. In this case, his English translation might be something like: “The ultimate power of OFA quirk couldn’t stop you (AFO+Shiggy) but we (Katsuki, Izuku, AM and the other heroes) will finish the job (by power of teamwork?)” Which is an understandable sentence in itself, but not accurate to the literal Japanese text. At all.

That’s not to mention the other missed opportunities in this panel alone, such as the callback to Katsuki’s apology in the rain. The “and then some” line was actually correct English, but it was such a rarely used phrase that it was jarring spoken from a teenager.

Tl;dr - yes, I think Caleb’s English translation for this page in particular was not satisfactory.

Listen, I know translations are hard, especially in languages like Japanese where people tend to omit pronouns or phrases in their speech. That’s why I stick around on leak nights to pick up the raw scans, and I try not to nitpick on manga translations too much. Heck, even other fan translations added their own flairs! - TBC’s version outright had Katsuki call out “Deku” which could be a controversy in itself (a reference to Hori’s intention but not 100% confirmed, and one may wonder if Katsuki would choose to refer to him by Deku or Izuku in this scenario). But I could see why fans on this side of the fandom are mad about this chapter, and I think it is fair of them to put an appeal with the official translation website. After all, it is customer feedback, the least they can do is get more unbiased translators to weigh in their opinions.

But idk WHAT it is but i cannot STAND anime dubs like my god they make me want to strangle someone. Idk if its the tone or the lipsync or WHAT but the voices sometimes just do NOT match the characters and I hate it, it makes me want to tear the ears from my scalp I would rather a million high pitched japanese anime girl squeals than whatever dub is it HURTS like- PHYSICALLY HURTS to listen to and i dont know why I’m like this

The Apothecary Diaries

First watch of first episode

At a glance, I knew I would like this show, but after one episode I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it.

Btw, do y'all like it when people give their first impressions of your favorite shows/books/media? Or their thoughtful analysis? Or their shit posting?

I do. I'll try to do that for you here.

So I'm watching this on Crunchyroll with English dub. Right off the bat I can tell you that I'm in love with Maomao. The voice actress is terrific, but also the character is intriguing. She draws you in right away with her intelligence, competency, inquisitiveness, daring, sense of responsibility, need for justice and expansive caring for every including strangers. She's got a whole lot of A+ character traits to absolutely love. Considering she wants to keep a low profile in the palace that's going to be a problem. I'm pretty sure everyone in her orbit is going to be sucked in by her and either love or hate her. There isn't a lot of room for indifference with a person this interesting.

The very first scene I knew there was something atypical about this show because a charming conversation between a daughter and her father suddenly had a black and white still frame of the the girl being abducted. The hell?!

That paired with the next scene taking place in a brothel helped me grasp the tone of this show. This show is going to have some more mature themes. Now, I know, I'm ready for it. I think. (I'll be alright as long as there is no boiling of people. I've already had two shows I've watched this year cook people and I'm done with human soup).

So we see a courtesan ask Maomao without surprise:

Have you been wounding yourself again?

To which Maomao replies, as if it's obvious:

Well, yeah.

Okay so self harm is something Maomao does. Perhaps in service of her medical research, but if she's willing to harm herself for this, then she might also be willing to put herself in harms way under other circumstances as well. I think the show is trying to demonstrate that she's self sacrificing here. Love that in a fictional character.

She panics and runs when the brothel ladies tease her about becoming a courtesan. Why? Is she intimidated by intimacy? Has she witnessed the courtesans suffering? Is she afraid that future would derail her own plans? Does she always get this flustered when teased? I'm not suggesting she consider becoming a courtesan but her panic is telling of something more.

She immediately gets kidnapped, which due to foreshadowing we knew was going to happen, but what gets me is her blasé attitude about it. Like it's just an inconvenience and not a terrifying ordeal. I immediately thought they would sell her to a brothel, but she instead ends up doing laundry at the palace. So we learn that Maomao can stay calm in a crisis and this makes me even more curious about her reaction to the teasing by the courtesans.

We find Maomao settled into a life of servitude at the palace. She's accepted what happened even if she is unfulfilled. She misses her old life, including the brothel, wonders about her father and longs for meat screwers, but she's already figured out the ecosystem she's in and how best to navigate it. She's so savy here. She compares the palace to the brothel and applies her knowledge of that complex social system to navigate palace politics. Maomao has already analyzed what would happen if she revealed her competencies, and has decided to lay low until she is able to extricate her self in a couple years.

She tells the viewers what we need to know about harem life and mentions that if one isn't careful they could end up as a concubine. It's a future she wants as little as that of a courtesan, even though she mentioned that low ranked concubines are treated better than the servants. I have to wonder if this is foreshadowing or if it is commentary on the roles of women in this society.

Palace gossip! Oh there's a handsome new eunuch in the palace? Maomao couldn't care less. Well okay.

I'm going to make a few completely unfounded predictions here just to see how far off I am when I watch the rest of the series.

Regarding the hot eunuch:

He's not a eunuch. He's got all his bits and bobs.

He's not just a palace manager. At least not completely. He's probably a bastard son or royalty in hiding or something. He's not nobody.

Maomao is going to be down bad for this dude.

What a waste. Grade A quality genes and no way of proliferating them. -Maomao on Jinshi's appearance

So Maomao can't be bothered to spare a second thought about handsome eunuchs, or nonsense about curses, but medical ailments? Now you've got her thinking. And I love that about her. She knows how to diagnose and treat ailments and she cares so much! She's trying to lay low but her passion and integrity can't be tempered by her very rational plan to protect herself by staying inconspicuous. She knows how to help and feels a responsibility to do so even if that help puts her at risk. Hero qualities right there.

Also, I love a character that is just... better than every one else. Maomao is more informed, experienced and able to diagnose than the court physician. Competency porn yes, please!

Speaking of competency... We need to talk about Jinshi! Our handsome "eunuch" (he's getting that word in sarcastic quotes until I receive proof otherwise). Out of the 3000 people living in the back palace, he deduces which one of them sent a warning to the concubines, and rangles a confession with nothing more than a scrap of cloth. He observed Maomao muttering about needing something to write on, and her mended skirt. He recognized that scrap of cloth as belonging to a servant girl's clothing. He understood the importance of her literacy and cleverly used it as a means to draw her out. Jinshi is every bit as capable as Maomao, and he's out maneuvered her in this. Maomao has met her match.

To Maomaos horror she is promoted to lady-in-waiting and I am here for it! Girl you are in the shit now! She seems really panicked about the new promotion, because she is smart and knows that this new position is fraught with dangers even if she doesn't know precisely what they are. She seems pretty smart and capable but the fact that Jinshi was able to so easily draw her out and expose her means she will need to sharpen her skills. I'm hoping the concubine and Jinshi will be allies to her in the palace.

Her panic about entering the court reminds me of earlier in the episode when she ran from the brothel. Perhaps she fears becoming entangled with any type of social/political group? Does she have more secrets that she's trying to keep hidden?

I just know that this character is going to be put through some trials. But she has so many great qualities and strengths, that I'm confident she can adapt and overcome. I am looking forward to watching her persist and triumph. And maybe cause a little trouble.

The last verse coupled with the visual of the actors hits much harder, IMO. I also like how we already start with Angel's denial that no, really, he loves this life!

Translation:

In English, Angel is just saying that Valentino feeds him poison and he's addicted to it. In Italian, he's outright asking for it. Also, Angel is afraid every night that he might die for the abuse?????

Translation:

It's one thing to get good at lying, and another to do it for a living.

Also I prefer the bridge in this version to the English one. We know he's swallowing poison by this point. It's more poignant to add that he's also swallowing his own pride and dignity.

(related to this, during his breakdown with Husk in the hotel, I adore that they translated "Do you know how much I'm worth?" with "Ma lo sai quanto costo?". To be worth in English could also refer to his general status, but in Italian, it can only be intended as his price as a prostitute. Man.)

Not much to point out about Fai Schifo, Baby, except that Husk says "Baby, I like you this way" and Angel Dust calls him "love" :) a bit more seriously, "fare schifo" sounds much harsher to me than "you suck", which would be the closer translation - it more literally means "to be disgusting". I really hope the Italian fandom is not as discourse-happy as the English one :^)

(also "passivello da bordello" cracks me up just as much as "power bottom at rock bottom" dhsjfhsdk it literally means "a little bottom from a brothel" but it sounds good 😭)

Lucifer calls Alastor "sguattero" which is a pretty dispregiative word for "busboy" lmao, more like "scullion".

Very interesting that now Alastor's nun cosplay directly refers to his faith in Charlie, and not just his loyalty to the hotel :)

Also nice touch that he once again gives himself credit for the name of the hotel lol, he really hated that Lucifer didn't like it

And personally I love the effect of his voice - it's different from the og dub, and it reminds me of the earliest Disney movies Italian dubs, it's nostalgic <3

I just like a lot more how this comes across :) it's more accusatory and also it straight up says that a demon can not only improve, but love.

Another miscellaneous lines that I prefer are "Ora la bimba lo sa!" ("Now the girlie knows!") over "Now the cat's out of the bag", because Lute is an asshole; "È questo quello che mi disgusta!" ("This is what disgusts me!") over "That's what the fuck I've been saying!" because it's a more elegant emphasis; and "Come mai nascondi che tu hai le ali come noi?" ("Why do you hide that you have wings just like us?") because it's more evocative and even more cruel since Vaggie actually got her wings ripped out.

First of all, Nanni Baldini is slaying just as much as Riccardo Suez in the emotional department bro what is that voice. But most importantly, "From the contract that distorts my will". This is much more poignant than the English version, and it paints Alastor as not only a puppet, but really as if part of him is acting against his own will. man.

Reverse: 1999 seems unreal; too good to be true.

The reason I even took notice of it in the first place was its soundtrack. I hate jazz, but they made a jazz song that I actually like, and then there's ReReReRegulus!, what a banger. And then I watched the trailer, to get a feel of what the game is even about. First of all, the accents! Hello? I normally always play games in JP, but this game seems to be set not in some fictional world, but in our real world, in the real London, so the British English dub would be so much more immersive (but of course there are a lot of familiar JP seiyuu, I'm very conflicted.) If this game, unlike Genshin, has a good voice director, who actually does their work and tells the VA's how the character is supposed to sound, I might play in English tbh. As a former FGO player, traveling to the past isn't an entirely novel concept to me, however, we are going to the 20th century, which is quite interesting. I mean, think about it, the 20th century of our real world, there are so many fascinating historical events. And it seems that they are putting in much more effort in portraying the zeitgeist of the era than FGO ever did. The artistic direction seems to be on point for this game. Apparently there is a main character, with a canon personality and fully voiced dialogue. Hoyo making Honkai Impact 2.0's new MC a self-insert was the stupidest move, and I'm so glad that this game understands how much better a canon protagonist is. It really convinces me that they care about storytelling and characterization. The general artistic direction is so impressive, but the game itself also surprises me. The base rate of 6-stars is 1.5% (compared to Genshin and Star Rail's 0.6%) AND the soft pity starts at 60, with hard pity being at 70. There doesn't seem to be a weapon gacha and the dupes only increase skill multipliers instead of completely changing how a character can be played. At first, I thought it was unfortunate that pick-up rate was only 50%, but every character joins the standard pool, so losing the 50/50 won't be nearly as bad. Unless the gacha currency economy is completely fucked, this seems extremely generous. The combat is thankfully not one of those god-awful auto-fights like Blue Archive or PriConne, but it's turn-based, which is much more engaging, allowing for challenging battles that actually pick your brain and require some skill.

However, there is an auto-mode for the mundane stuff, and get this, you can record your actions, rather than having an AI do everything wrong. And thankfully, there is no PvP, so you don't need to compete with whales. Knowing all this, I really have to wonder, where is the catch? There must be some huge flaw, right? It is as if the devs of Reverse: 1999 looked at all the complaints and criticism of all other gacha games, and just decided to address all of them. As long as the game doesn't have a huge reliance on meta characters to clear endgame content and event-limited content and the writing doesn't absolutely suck, then this game might be the perfect gacha game. I'm so excited to give it a try!

Delicious in Dungeon Anime Season 1, Episode 2 Review

Spoilers for season 1, episode 2 below the cut! There may also be mild manga spoilers so proceed with caution.

This episode was great! I think it was a big improvement on the first. Honestly no real complaints... I do kind of wish both Marcille and Chilchuck could have had stand-alone episodes dedicated to their character development, to allow for a deeper focus, but I understand why they didn't do it, and the pacing was still excellent. I do still sometimes feel like the show is in fast-forward at times, because with 3 meals in one episode, it feels like the characters finish eating, and we jump cut to them saying that they're hungry again, without anything to help really impress upon viewers that time has passed. Makes it feel a bit like we're reading a collection of short 4-panel gag comics instead of a continuing story… which, early Dungeon Meshi DOES have that as part of it's format, but it changes with time, as we get into longer individual stories.

During the Basilisk/Doni and FIonil section, I really do miss some of the dry humor from the manga. ("Hurry, he's getting cold!" "Move him closer to the fire!") The hilarity of slowly preparing a meal while someone is dying of poison has unfortunately been lost, which makes Doni and Fionil much less memorable characters…. But it benefits the other 2 stories in the ep to have more time so I think it was the right choice to make. It also gives people something to go back and read the manga for, since it's a little different! If you're reading this and you're an anime only, consider reading the manga while you watch the anime! I promise it's worth it. I'm excited about next week because I think they'll devote the entire episode to Laios and the living armors, which is me and my spouse's favorite early DM storyline, and the part where we both said "Oh, I LOVE this manga..." and got really invested. It's 2 chapters in the manga so it could be an entire episode…. which also would make sense, if that's why they needed to crunch 3 chapters into episode 2. Just like the first episode, animation was fantastic, and as usual the weakest points are when characters are just walking or talking and not doing much. Everything more dynamic is just bouncy and adorable and full of life. Very rarely is anything animated in a dull or flat way. They're doing their best to use "move a drawing around" or "zoom on a drawing" for comic effect and I think it's working well so far. There's some great animal animation in this episode, the bat flying around and the basilisk chasing Marcille in particular. Translation was better this time around, no dumb modern or game references in the dub ("newbs" "as if" etc.) … But there are differences between the subtitles and the dub script that change how easy it is to understand what's happening. When Senshi tells Chilchuck to cut up the giant bat, the subtitles make it hard to understand what he's telling him to do, and the dub makes it a lot clearer. In the subs when Senshi calls Chilchuck a half-foot child, the subtitles say "I'm not a child" and the dub says "I hate it when people call me 'kid'"… The latter is more interesting for keeping the mystery going for things that happen later in the story. If the show continues like this, I think the English dub may be the more satisfying way to watch it (even though the Japanese performances are great), mostly because the subs are very literal and sometimes miss things that the English dub somehow manages to include. And for some reason Netflix isn't including translation of Japanese signs on-screen during the subtitles, but they DO provide them when you watch the English dub. A lot of Dungeon Meshi's humor is sometimes in those background signs so completely missing out on them sucks. Anyway those are my thoughts for this episode! See you next week Meshiheads.

Sonic Italian voices. What I think. What are my favourites:

Nine doing the well known Italian hand gesture 🤌. I smiled when I saw it.

I'm Italian (for this my English sucks, at least, I hope it is readable). I tend to wathc shows in italian, English and Japanese. Usually I enjoy Italian and Japanese dubbing, English... not so much, I don't like the choices of VA usually. Sonic Prime is one of the few exceptions. I'm glad to not hear RCS as Sonic. Is voice is terrible for him. Kirk's Shadow also is bad. I can say is the only Shadow I prefer to avoid to listen.

In 30 years Sonic series changed the VA but for some voices only from Boom and in videogames we are finally getting there.

Italian Sonic VA have been four as far as i remember: Pietro Ubaldi, Fabrizio Vidale, Daniele Raffaeli and Renato Novara.

Pietro Ubaldi is known to be the dubber of virtually all cats characters, both anthro and four legged such as Michael (What's Michael) to Giuliano (Love me Knight) to Artemis (Sailor Moon) to the blue scottish fold Doraemon but he also dubs funny villains. He dubbed Sonic in Sonic SatAM and AoStH. it sounded a bit weird in that role I must say.

Fabrizio Vidale dubbed also Shadow, going as far as making Shadow talk exaclty the same way Sonic talks, same speech pattern and inflection to underline their likeness. He was not much appreciated in that role and was also weird as Sonic though he managed to show his personality. Fabrizio Vidale was also the Italian VA of the inspector Gadget.

Daniele Raffaeli dubbed Sonic in Sonic Boom (serie). I think he has the cutest Italian voice for Sonic, I love that. He also dubbed Shadow (of course) but I have no idea about how he dealth with him, I only was able to watch about 10 episodes of Sonic Boom that were dubbed in italian. I was surprised to enjoy Sonic Boom, since I didn't give it credits. Shadow with a cute voice? Mmmh, I'm curious...

Renato Novara, the official Sonic VA (also in Videogames and in Sonic Movie) has a pleasant voice too. I think it sounds youthful and gives the impression of a strong yet funny character.

Tails also had four VA in my country: Veronica Pivetti, Federica de Bortoli, Maura Cenciarelli and Benedetta Ponticelli.

Veronica Pivetti was for Sonic SatAM and AoStH. She has a versatile voice, shge dubbed Megara from Disney's Hercules making her sound like an adult woman (of course), but she also dubbed Dende from Dragon ball and Tails, giving them an innocent childish voice. One thing I like about Italian voices choice is that children are virtually always dubbed by women, never by men. I hate to hear a 8 years old child talking with the voice of a 30 years old man. Few men can dub a child in a convincing way (we had Paolo Torrisi, his voice sounded easily like the one of a 10 years old kid. Unfortunately he died few years ago)

Federica de Bortoli dubbed Tails in Sonic X. Is long i don't watch Sonic X but I remember a nice childish yet determined voice.

Maura Cenciarelli didn't give me a strong impression. If I can tell Sonic's voice was cute, I can't tell what i think about Tails, apart from 'its fine as a kid voice'.

Benedetta Ponticelli has a very cute voice for Tails. She is also the official VA for videogames, she dubbed Tails in the movies and Nine, Mangey, Sails. While keeping the cuteness, I can tell Nine is spot on and can be scary with a cute sounding voice.

Knuckles had three VA here: Davide Garbolino, Oreste Baldini and Maurizio Merluzzo.

Davide Garbolino dubbed Sonic in Sonic Underground. He is one of the few men who is able to properly dub a kid (most of the character he dubbed were kids, indeed), but I never watched Sonic Underground so I have no idea about how he sounded as Knuckles.

Oreste Baldini dubbed Knuckles both in Sonic X and Sonic Boom. I kinda liked his voice but thinking about that, it didn't left me a strong impression, although i laugh when he i remember him screaming: 'Oh no! The curse of the moose' in Italian from Sonic Boom.

Maurizio Merluzzo is a GENIUS! I don't like, that's reductive, I LOVE his interpretation for Knuckles. Is a while he dubs Knuckles but he did his best in Sonic movie and following. he is also the VA in videogames.

Amy only had two VA: Antonella Baldini and Serena Clerici.

Andonella Baldini dubbed Amy in Sonic X and sonic Boom, while Serena Clerici dubs Amy in videogames and in Sonic Prime. Both of them represent what I love about Italian dubbing. Most of the time, Italian dubbers try to keep the voices as close as possible to the original voices. In shows that they respect particularly (like the Simpson) they go as far as choosing VA wich voice are virtually identical to the originals.

Serena Clerici uses a high pitched voice for Black Rose and Amy, while she sound more adult while dubbing Rusty and Thorn. Maybe my favourite is her Thorn interpretation.

For Shadow we got three VA, two of them shared with Sonic. Fabrizio Vidale, Daniele Raffaeli and Claudio Moneta.

I didn't hear Daniele Raffaeli yet, so I can't say how his voice sounds on him. But I can say, as far as I know, Shadow is not as soft spoken as in the English version. On the contrary, he talks loud and clear.

Fabrizio Vidale dubbed Shadow in Sonic X making him sound like Sonic. Terios, the reflection in short. I think this robbed some of Shadow's characterization. Shadow and Sonic shared the same voice in English version too, but Jason Griffith and Ryand Drummond were good to make them sound different. More like two identical twins who have also identical vocal folds, but due to their different personalities, they also have a different speech pattern and inflection. so they seem to have two different voices.

Claudio Moneta opted to show Shadow's emotions through his voice. he is an actor who prefer to put his personal twist on character he dubs rather than giving a perfect imitation, making him sound very strong, determined and no-nonsense but he sounded cheerful when he did steal all Sonic's regulators. Honestly I would have preferred to hear a soft voice in my language. He also dubbed Goku and Zarbon (the latter was dubbed as soft spoken).

Eggman got six VA, but I didn't hear all of them: Toni Fuochi, Riccardo Lombardo, Dario Penne, Gerolamo Alchieri, Roberto Pedicini and Aldo Stella.

I like most of them but I would talk about two in particular: Roberto Pedicini is the VA for the movie. More than the VA of Eggman he is the VA of most Jim Carrey interpretation, and he sounded dangerous, although funny in the movie.

Aldo Stella is Eggman in the videogames and in Sonic Prime.He also dubbed Guldo from Dragon Ball. his voice sounds nasty, rasp and high pitched and I like it. It makes me think what Eggman is, a mad scientist.

Also, speaking of dubbing and localization:

I hate "Delicious in Dungeon" as a title. It does not make sense grammatically in English. I get that they were trying to make it DnD, but it sucks.

Delicious Dungeon would have been fine. That's and adjective and and noun. Simple.

Tbf. I think Dungeon Meshi would have been fine. "Meshi" is fun to say, not too difficult to pronounce in english and even if you don't know what it means it's pretty easy to gather its food related from context clues.

But even if you insist on doing and English title

"Dungeon Meals" is probably the most direct translation. You could do "Dungeon Cooking" or "Dungeon Cuisine"; or "Dungeon Delicacy" or "Dungeon Dining" or "Dungeon Diet" if you insist on alliteration/d&d. Dungeon Dinner?

so in the last month ive been on holiday and then got sucked into inazuma eleven, since i was alresdy playing it ill give a short summary of what i thought (plus inaxuma eleven 2) and also the anime!!! (though shorter bc i watched it in a dub of a language i barely know) ill try and play all the inazuma eleven 3 games, i only watched the first season of inazuma eleven go tho.

inazuma eleven 1: it was great!!!! unfortunately ive been endeared to bobby shearers. also i thought the erik plotline went nowhere but i was supposed to get him before kirkwood.... the last battle i beat by mere happenstance, whoops!!! i lovedit tho. ALSO someone pls answer this: are zeus like.... genetically modified humans????? cuz it neverr gets answered, ray darks way of speaking was SO VAGUE. like is the research abt the boys or the steroids????

also nellys so cool i love her. the anime was super cool, but i was confused with its 127 eps since i only played the first game so i thought it mightve been like some anime only stuff??? turns out theres more than one inazuma eleven game.

i think the anime adapted the game pretty well, from what i could understand but i thought celia was way meaner abt jude in the game??? idk if its bc she has the “im gonna end ur life” face all the time in that game that made me think that though.... probably since shes like way more "innocent and cute" in the second game (todd ironside is so wrird i HATE HIMM in the first game)

great game, i called shawn shibuya since i didnt know his english name, or his Japanese one for that matter. the reason i chose shibuya was because i played twewy right before seeing him, and he looks like a shibuya.

finally got around to watching Detective Conan movie 24. rented it on Youtube bc it doesn't seem like we'll be getting a physical release for it any time soon which sucks. it also sucks that youtube CLEARLY wants people to watch the English dub, bc the Japanese audio track is like. under the music track somehow? i can't explain it well, but the voice acting is quieter than the music. also the English subs are just the dub script I'm pretty sure. which sucks.

anyways. it's a fun movie. definitely a huge improvement over the previous two movies which were pretty lackluster. movie 22 in particular really just banked on having Amuro as the star. which worked, of course. the bitches love Amuro. it helps that I'm way more invested in Sera as a character and this movie thankfully has the most of her out of any of the Akai family characters. great movie for Sera fans! can confirm!!

and of course. it wouldn't be a Detective Conan movie without bullshit physics. love it or hate. I happen to love it.

but man. knowing that this was going to be the 2020 movie until it got delayed by COVID is wild. they crash a bullet train into the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I mean. the "World Sports Games". they truly just do whatever in these movies. it's great.

I LOVE HIM

also his character angel motifs and cool sword kick so much ass. i love his dub voice. his stupidass bike is straight up called T666 TERRIBLE OMEN everything about him is so over the top it's ridiculous. it's DELIGHTFUL

It's not that I hope the donghua eventually gets dubbed into English for the sake of potentially drawing in more people in. It's that I hope the dubbing is just really bad. Because I just kinda think that's what scum villain deserves. That show literally fell apart and all but melted to sludge by episode 6ish. It's fascinating. I can tell they changed out staff just by the storyboarding. There is so much wrong with it. I love explaining it to my fellow animator buddies.

So yeah I want the dub to suck ass but not in a do bad its unwatchable way.

No I basically want the servamp dub (I don't even like servamp but oh the dub) where Keith Silverstien is playing multiple main characters and not even trying to hide it and where everyone kinda says all the dialogue like they're adults who hate their lives on those weird VHS tapes that are like children education psa.

Like it is both what it deserves and what I expect. Because I cant see any company buying the license to scum villain unless it came in a pack ala ghost stories or how 4kids initially got their hands on one piece. And I expect this simply because the show just is not good on its own. It's been out for years and literally no company has really made a move to buy the rights. And like its just not a hot property in the first place.

If it ends up anywhere other than roku I suspect Netflix. But you wont even get a notification and I half expect something to be wrong with the subs or the summary.

Just... I want shen qingqiu's English VA to be playing all but like 3 characters and one of them is Binghe and he's like slightly pinching his nose or kinda muppetting for that one. I think it be very funny.

Alternatively I'll accept a slayers situation where like binghe's VA just inexplicably changes at episode 3 and he's still there just playing only doing background VAS. Also only 2 girl voices. Whole show. All girls are played by 2 ladies who sound the same but just distinct enough. That's my dream dub.

Welcome to me being pissed at some Persona fans and now making this rant. Very sorry to my followers-

TLDR: The ENG VAS for Reload and for FES and Portable are both good and discourse about it shouldn't even happen

Okay so. How this all started was that, I was watching a long video of the Persona 3 Reload final boss fight, which I am not going to spoil for those still playing. The title said it was a Merciless, No Items run which is something I could never do honestly.

But then it also had: JP voices. Which is basically the japanese voice acting instead of the english one.

Now, I'm not going to sit here and say which is better than the other. People have their preferences. Some prefer the eng dub and others prefer the jp dub.

Tell me why.

Tell me why I see people in the comments just shitting. SHITTING. On the Reload english dub and calling some people who defend it Persona 5 babies who play on Safety mode.

LIKE IT'S FINE IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE ENGLISH DUB, JUST. TURN ON THE JP DUB IF YOU HAVE THE GAME?! OR WATCH VIDEOS WITH THE JP DUB, WHICH I'M SURE THERE IS?! IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO NOT SHIT ON THE ENG DUB!

I especially see a lot of hate for Akihiko and Fuuka's VAs, Alejandro Saab/CyYu and Suzie Yeung respectively. I saw some hate for Yukari and the protag's VAs too, Heather Gonzalez and Aleks Lee. And to that, I say:

I have, my own opinions as well. Like how I prefer Yukari's FES voice over Reload's because it just suits her better in my opinion. But I'm not going to say Heather was a miscast! She did her best, and it wasn't that much of a terrible job!

Same with Fuuka and Shinjiro, but reversed! Her Reload voice is so much beter in my opinion, it fits her more timid and quiet self than in FES and the og! And Shinjiro's VA did a killer job with his role! I definitely enjoyed the interactions with him more in Reload! Does that mean the FES and the OG versions of their voices suck? NO!

Mainly because voice acting in games at that time wasn't exactly as solid, and p3 was the first installment to have a game fully voice acted (I know p2 has some voice acting, but I think it's not fully. And p1 only had battle cries, as far as I'm aware)! And for the first installment to do that, it didn't do so bad!

Like I get it! You liked the og game better! It's fine! But that doesn't mean you have to shit on people for liking the remake more!

I would also like to mention the person who like. Complained that P2 Nyarlathotep was harder than the last boss and that this boss was the easiest boss in the series and said that 55 minutes for the boss, when it was like 26 (confirmed by the youtuber) and then some other stuff which I won't say because it enters spoiler territory.
