Man i really got lost in the sauce on this one fellas
Moonstone Island has pretty much taken up the entirety (that is not dedicated to my own persons, hehe)
Magic Man in particular is a delightful Enigma(tm) that i am having fun not only figuring out, but applying headcanons on
i had fun with symbolism in this comic

tumblr
(no audio bc I’m bad + awkward at talking lmao why are my hands so ORANGE?????)
tried filming an instagram style video with my dad’s tripod recording myself fidgeting with the book pendant i made (this one is the bi-ble/bisexual agenda variant 😎) to show off how it moves! (i think I got a couple bruises trying to set up recording, ow :
It’s been a while since I’ve done a book pendant but it’s definitely a step up in complexity from the last few I’ve done. (worked out how to make it from scratch like … uhhhh…. I think two years ago now? had to grok the proportions and the design with bead mentor’s help as I went along bc I was REALLY into peyote and nothing else at the time, herringbone SUCKED and still SUCKS AND I HATE THAT STITCH and I was tired of doing spiral stitch over and over)
The way that both peyote and brick stitch (and I guess most things in beading in general) works is that it uses beading thread and not glue to put the beads together so they can still move, thus why the final piece, both the cover and the pages are flexible and I can move them like above. You can even roll the beads in place if you hold it in the right place and apply the right amount of pressure (not a lot, it’s still pretty delicate, but still), so it’s very stimmy! (at risk of causing the colours to fade/coating to come off but the weathered look I feel sells the book look)
If you want a REALLY in-depth thing about how I made it, that’s under the read more below! :D
Did peyote for the book cover and the pages with “writing” in rose gold colour  (apparently? that’s what it’s technically named, also did them for the corners of the cover to make it look a little bit more book-like) metallic delicas on them and brick stitch for the bee page. I don’t think the bee wings show up well against the crystal luster I used for the background - it’s a soft irregular pinky purple silver metal. Seeming as it’s opaque and the glass beads aren’t, if you put it up against a light, or even angle it so that the light source isn’t directly above like it is here, you could tell them apart more easily.
(while they make the same product in the end, there are some key differences; peyote is far more forgiving AND faster once you know what you’re doing if you want to undo, but brick stitch at least you can see where you’re going wrong at the start as it’s a straight row and not filling in the gaps, or “teeth” for complicated designs that aren’t symmetrical, if not the turns are a little annoying having to increase every row to stop it from decreasing automatically. When it’s irregularly shaped things or complicated designs, brick’s your go to. I learnt that the hard way trying to do the bee page in peyote and kept getting disheartened :/ The bee page was too small and the wings couldn’t show up at all so I had to use a combination of brick and peyote to add a one bead wide border all around, meant I also had to extend the cover to make sure it fit inside, but looked much better. I got there in the end!)
So after making everything individually I sewed the pages individually onto the jump rings by looping through the rings and the teeth until it was secure enough but still let the pages move on the rings to act like paper (kind of). They all had to be the same orientation, or it wouldn’t work and would look wonky, so I had to plot out their designs and make sure I stuck to them and didn’t make mistakes.
You might notice the fuchsia is a little worn away - that’s because it’s a galvanised metal delica that the other colours making up the flag aren’t, so the coating’s come off as I’ve worked with it - the middle purple stripe is just glass (and even then it’d be wrong to call it a solid PURPLE since its edges are indigo and kinda fades into violet which I Love, I really want to do something else with it), and the deep blue is a silverlined type that looks pale unless you use the right colour bead thread - considering colours and material/finish is more important than you’d think!
To make the book wearable, I made a loop of the same delicas about ¼ of the way down the “spine” so it could hang diagonally - with an odd number in the loop too so that there isn’t a gap at the top with the jump ring on where it could slip off the thread at the join - and went through that to secure it so the chain could be passed through it easily. There’s a couple loose threads where I messed up that didn’t go entirely through where I got sloppy, but because it was purple it doesn’t show up much against the flag colours of the cover.
Aaaaand then one part pages kept coming off the jump ring so bead mentor had to twist them both open and close them tighter with pliers (I’d forgotten to do that, :
FINALLY tidying up the threads that had come out, I used a clear nail polish to get them to set so it wouldn’t come undone after I snipped the ends with a bead cutter. Also made it SMELL a whole lot of varnish and changed the texture up a little so it became a little stiffer, but it gave a little more gloss too for some extra pop.

Excerpt from my WIP: Recovery - Chapter Two
“Kan,” one of them commanded. Stop, she had said. I hoped my Vashlan was good enough to get us through this. I held my hand up to my men and we halted our horses. “State your name and purpose,” the same woman asked in Vashlan.
“I am King Marius Folare of Parth. I seek an audience with the queen.”
Their expressions didn’t change when I revealed my identity, though I was sure they knew who I was and had unjustified biases towards Parth. “Stand and follow us.”
I dismounted Lydia and instructed my men in Lishe to do the same then follow. We crossed an opening in the small fence which had patrols strolling along the edge of it. They led us towards the center of their capital city. Before then, we had a short glance at few farm areas near the kingdom’s borders. I heard Gaius next to me suck in a breath.
I didn’t know what I imagined slaves to look like. Maybe slightly as these people did. Hunched over fields, malnourished and perpetually burnt from the sun. Our armor clinked as we walked, prompting some of the men to look up. They were all men. Some looked to be boys--teenagers, maybe around mine and Chris’ age--others had gray hair and faces worn with age. One of the younger boys stared up at us in wonder and maybe even some fear. His eyes followed me. I couldn’t help but stare back at him from however many feet away from him I was. He looked tired and hungry. Something made him turn his head, and he hurriedly went back to his work in the dirt.
“They’re all men…” Gaius muttered. I swallowed. Nearing the city more, we saw more of the women in armor who strolled around keeping guard. Whether they were soldiers or not, they were all women. The vendors in a market we passed through were all women. Most of the customers were women, both young and old. I saw one or two men helping the vendors who were selling their goods. I saw young children chasing each other around, and a few of them were boys, but most were girls.
The palace wasn’t far ahead now. Most of our surroundings were rather humble; farm lands and small buildings, dirt roads and not many luxuries. However as we neared the queen’s establishment, we also neared the residential areas for the nobles. Mostly women walked around, draped in elegant dresses or fine silks. Occasionally they had young girls or even young boys following their heels in common clothes, carrying whatever possessions the women owned. Only once did I actually see an adult man. Beyond the steps of the palace, a man touched the arm of a woman and kissed her on the cheek, bowing away slightly and walking off before she went up the long, daunting steps.
The steps were a light colored, sparkling stone that lead to tall, gleaming, wooden and golden double doors. We earned many suspicious stares and glares from the presumably rich and noble women that lived here.
A few girls rushed up to take our horses, giving us partially fearful and partially confused expressions in the process. I gave one of them a small smile, but she just turned and hurried our horses away from us with the other girls. I felt uncomfortable.
The five of us continued to receive stares as we were lead into the palace and into the throne room. It wasn’t so much bigger than my own, but definitely much more flashy. Gold glittered on the lighter stone of the walls, reflecting sunlight from the tall crystal windows onto the intricately designed floor. Where we stood, it was a dark, smooth stone I couldn’t quite decipher that bled into the eventual marble floor that sat beneath the queen’s throne. Purple drapery lined the windows and a few of the archways here and there.
The queen herself sat on her throne, looking at once menacing and fierce as well as completely struck with disinterest. She wore all white, from her boots that laced up to her knees to her pants and her vest. White, long, hanging sleeves were pinned to the edge of her vest, exposing her shoulders and giving her wrists way more room than needed.
She lifted an eyebrow as we entered the room. “Shvot ik nin?” What is this? She spoke more to the women who escorted us here. The two bent at the waist in a low bow.
“I am King Marius Folare of Parth,” I spoke before the women could. Several that were standing against the wall glared at me. I didn’t care. Just looking at her made me feel angry.
The queen sighed. “Yes, I know who you are, I just don’t know what you’re doing here dragging all your sexism on my very clean floors.” She answered in Lishe this time. The women next to us looked back at me with malice in their eyes for interrupting them.
My hands closed into fists at my sides. Despite the fact that I very much wanted to kill her even though never having taken another life before, I knew well that the wrong move could start an unnecessary conflict. A war, if I wasn’t careful.

2019 Debut YA Covers Megapost (part 1)
I’ve fallen off the wagon of keeping up with cover reveals even a little, and there were a whole bunch in the past few weeks, so to get back up, i’m gonna try to do quick and dirty rundowns of as many 19 debuts as have had cover reveals (that I haven’t already talked about) as I can this week! HERE WE GO (these are in no particular order):
1) BLOODLEAF by Crystal Smith
Tumblr media
Oh Bloodleaf, you expensive little TOG rehash. What have you brought us. This is another Billelis creation, and I actually like the type! The hypercondensed slight serif feels appropriate but fresh for YA fantasy and the color scheme, the central flower image, and the silver thorns are all really working. BUT I have the exact same issue that I had with the updated Dark of the West cover; the “fancy border with illustrated story-relevant elements” thing doesn’t really work for me when it’s uneven and almost-random the way this is. The crown, moon and tree up top are so symmetrical and balanced that you expect the same thing in the opposite corners, and instead you get a castle with a lot more visual weight than the others, plus a raven and a bow that are just...... hanging out? This would have been a stronger cover with the additional symbols completely removed; the flower and thorns are plenty of visual interest alone.
2) THE PIONEER by Bridget Tyler
Tumblr media
I am obsessed with this one. I don’t know a damn thing about the book, haven’t seen it hyped on twitter or anywhere else, but this cover is gorgeous and perfect and evocative; there’s DEPTH and DRAMATIC COLOR and it’s got BISEXUAL LIGHTING and the outlined type is INTERESTING. It’s an aesthetic cousin to the UK Edition of THE DEVOURING GRAY that i talked about here and it looks like a movie poster and I want it on my wall.
3) ENCHANTEE by Gita Trelease
Tumblr media
Poor Enchantee has already had a cover redesign (old on the left, new one on the right, with the face). It was for the better, although they didn’t address my biggest issue with the original, which is that tYPE. The even-width, sort of chalkish calligraphy SCREAMS “art director’s instagram” and “cloyingly cute NEVERTHELESS, SHE PERSISTED posters you can buy on Etsy”, and “chalkboard signage your high school friend pinned to her WEDDING INSPO pinterest board”, rather than. Yknow. Sexy Magic Revolutionary France, which is the book. Where is the CONTRAST. where is the impression of ACTUAL INK. (Also: I didn’t crop these weird, the type being cut off/ a tangent on the edge there is Actually Like That.)
The Lipstick-ed face DOES say Sexy Magic Revolutionary France, so I appreciate its presence and also think it looks good (it def is victim to looking a little like a tumblr graphic, a phenomenon i have mentioned before, but that’s pretty harmless here); and the gold paint splotches and red-blue starry textures are pretty! They could have done a less halfassed job getting the vivid blue cropped around her chin, but. C'est la vie. I like it and I’m actually super hype for the book itself.
4) THE FEVER KING by Victoria Lee
Tumblr media
This is......... a weird one. I love the colors! the blue and purple (veins?) lightning is really striking (LOL) and the texture is super visually interesting. I’m very curious to see the print choices eventually; I think matte vs glossy vs texture vs foil could make a big difference in how this one feels overall. I sort of wish SOMETHING was different, just to make this a little less symmetrical or abstract, whether that’s a different text layout or an additional focal point in the imagery or whatever, but I do think it fundamentally works as-is.
5) FOUR DEAD QUEENS by Astrid Scholte
Tumblr media
Thanks, I hate it! this shares a lot of problems with the Burning Glass cover and everything I dislike about lazy object covers generally: the imagery is unclear at first glance (what a waste of all that detailed rendering) and not evocative of anything in particular in terms of mood, setting, or themes, and the type’s layout COULD NOT BE MORE BORING + is an ineffective use of the space and has a totally unnecessary glowy effect. The “spotlight” effect could generously be considered to be a visual signifier of the ~ murder mystery element but. oof. is a 90s crime drama aesthetic really what you want your secondary visual to be on what seems to be a pretty serious YA fantasy book?
(Okay, it could be worse, at least the hierarchy is clear and sensible. but that DNA crown, lmfao.)
6) AGAIN, BUT BETTER by Christine Riccio
Tumblr media
I got a couple requests for this one, and I really like it!!! i think the illustration style is SO cute and the whole layout is simple but effective. The little touches like the birds in the corner and the placement of “a novel” are all perfectly balanced; it’s a more successful version of the illustration on WHAT IF IT’S US (and a few others, like HOT DOG GIRL by Jennifer Dugan; that general style + palette is a trend right now) and the concept of the line across and the girl coming into full color is a clever little representation of the coming-of-age story elements.
7) HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS by Erin Craig
Tumblr media
I really! WANT! To like this cover! I think the layout and rendering of the text and the various nautical effects are sophisticated and pretty! HOWEVER COMMA! It’s just so low-contrast. This entire cover has the same single gray-green color and [lack of] depth; it’s like an intricately detailed dining room table. Nothing, not even the text, stands out immediately, so your eye wanders looking for a focal point; the title is readable, but not.... amazingly so. Kind of an unfortunate misfire despite having some of the most thoughtfully designed ~ fantasy ~ text I’ve seen in a while.
8) WE RULE THE NIGHT by Claire Eliza Bartlett
Tumblr media
This is, quite obviously, another Billelis creation, so we’re back to talking about the various foibles and failings of art directors trying to integrate type with his illustrations. And this one. uH. IT’S ROUGH, although the bigger question here is why that gorgeous, intricately rendered phoenix (?) isn’t centered on the damn cover. (neither is the.... fortress? on the bottom.) It’s so symmetrical that it’s clearly meant to be! Perfect centering and a tighter crop would have done a lot towards offsetting...... whatever is happening with the type, which feels VERY awkward. I do think the sort of ~random placement of words could work with a little more thought but into it, but as it is. Woof. It’s cohesive enough that I still feel okay about it as a cover overall, but some sTRANGE choices happened there.
Also, having looked this up, it’s actually dieselpunk? IE vaguely fantasy WWII? And as with our last vaguely fantasy WWII book (RIP Dark of the West’s OG cover) that is..... not being expressed. Here, I would say that a different typeface, one that feels more militaristic/ modern as opposed to ~ high fantasy ~ might have been the play.

Arcana MCs ref, Bambi and Aliss
BAMBI - USED FOR ASRA, MURIEL AND PORTIA’S ROUTES
Physical:
Age: 24 years
Eye colour/shape: Teal, downturned, roundish-almond shaped.
Hair Colour: Silver-grey, appears dull grey in sunlight, but shines in moonlight.
Hair style: choppy bangs at the front, two longer bangs framing her face. She can’t often be bothered trying to tie it back neatly, so she ties the bulk of it back while still leaving some loose at the back. It reaches just beneath her shoulder blades, except for one longer braid tied behind her right ear, that reaches her waist.
Build: 6ft 2in tall (1.89m). Very lanky. She’s a beanpole, but strong enough to climb a tree (then fall out of it again...), with a long torso, willowy hips and long legs.
Skin tone: I couldn’t colour it properly because my pencils are awful, but her skin tone is a touch lighter than Asra’s.
Face shape: slightly long, angular face, with a straight nose and high arch.
Marks/Tattoos: A deer head on her back, the antlers framing a moon, it’s usually hidden unless she’s wearing a very loose shirt though. Various scrapes and healed cuts on her palms and legs. She does have a cut hidden under her bangs, from a nasty incident with a tree.
Clothing:
She made almost all of her clothing herself, and got tired of remaking a lot of it as she grew or ripped it. The reference image was poorly drawn and poorly coloured, and photographing it just distorted all the colours, but it’s all I had on hand, I’m sorry…
Top: soft green colour, made from a medium weight cotton, with a pale purple trim on the neckline. The neckline has string lacing, and there is more lacing on a small incision on each side of the top. Allowing her to tighten or loosen the shirt if she needs to.
Bottom: they used to be a pale sand colour, but she got tired of washing out grass stains and dyed them green from the mid-thigh down, although it came out sort of ombre... They’re a loose, breezy fabric that cut off about mid shin level. She wears a thick piece of pale purple fabric as a belt, with the loose ends hanging by her shin. This fabric also functions as a sling if she needs to carry extra things around. Like lost animals.
Shoes: handmade again. A tan brown/hide colour, they are sturdy and well-worn boots, with more lacing to let her adjust the size.
Accessories: She does have some dark metal bands she likes wearing, with an ornate swirling design. They have protection charms embedded in them because she’s clumsy. One around her neck, three down each arm. If travelling or expecting to need it, she has a pack that she wears around her waist, resting against her hip. A dark blue bag that she uses to collect herbs in or generally carry her things in. It has a tri-moon symbol on the front (it’s a wiccan thing) with a tree of life in the middle. In her braid, she ties beads to remind her to do things. She’s always afraid of forgetting again, so she often ties beads in to remind her of people as well.
Personality/Trivia:
~she’s a decent healer with magic, but can work wonder with some herbs and a pot of water
~She’s probably broken everything in the shop at least once….
~She loves animals, and often carries treats for local strays in her bag
~Large crowds or places with lots of noise are overwhelming for her.
~She loves to sing. She’s not great at it, unless she’s singing in her home tongue.
~Her family is originally from the Vesuvian equivalent of Ireland.
~Her favourite food is fresh apple pastry, her favourite flowers are bluebell.
ALISS - USED FOR NADIA, JULIAN AND LUCIO’S ROUTES
Physical:
Age: 22 years
Eye colour/shape: Dark blue, like the night sky. Thin almond shaped. Asra often described them as ‘deeper than the ocean and twice as vast’.
Hair Colour: dark reddish brown, fading to yellow at the tips.
Hair style: It’s curly and bouncy and won’t be tamed back, even when she tries to enchant it to like flat. So she just lets it do what it wants. Generally it just curls around her face if she doesn’t at least use a band to keep it back.
Build: 5ft 5in tall (1.67m). soft and a little chubby, with a cute round face and wide hips. She’s surprisingly flexible and will climb on things to reach what she needs.
Skin tone: She’s very pale, like Portia, which only means she blushes and burns so easily. She doesn’t have freckles on her face, but she does have some over her shoulders
Face Shape: a round face with a rounded nose, she likes wearing makeup to make her features look more angular, but only when she has the time.
Marks/Tattoos: Only a few scars on her hands and a healed burn down her right forearm, she was angry at herself for messing up a spell and refused to let Asra heal it, as a reminder to herself to improve. She does have 4 piercings on each ear though, and wears a crystal in each one.
Clothing:
One again the pencils I used and the camera I took distorted a lot of the colours in the picture. I’m sorry…
Dress: a pale yellow (the pencils I used where far too bight on all aspects of her outfit…) with slits in the skirt for added mobility, trimmed with a sunset orange. It has a round neckline that covers most of her shoulders, with two decorative off-shoulder straps as well. It has pockets on either side with an orange trim to each one.
Shoes: simple rust-coloured slippers with reddish strings to tie the in place. They’re lightweight but comfortable.
Cloak: a warm orange at the neckline fading to a rusty red at the hem, it does have an ornate border to the hem that keeps it weighted. She has a pin given to her by Asra to hold it in place, the pin has the same design as the back of the tarot cards.
Accessories: A red band of fabric that does its best to tie her hair back even if it never keeps it back for long. She ties it around her wrist when she doesn’t needs it. A brown belt with slots to carry potion vials, and a few pockets for carrying extra supplies. She likes the noise bangles make as they clings together, so she has 4 thin copper bangles on her right wrist, and 2 thin bangles on her left ankle. She also has a rune necklace with a pentagram on it, the only thing she woke up with when Asra resurrected her.
Personality/Trivia:
~She’s hotheaded, sometimes to the point of coming across as rude.
~She loves to dance, and is surprisingly graceful, but has no proper form.
~She’s quick-witted, and a deft hand at ‘sleight of hand’ tricks.
~She can be charismatic and eloquent when she chooses to be. She rarely chooses to be.
~More talented at spellwork than other things. She likes working with crystals and ‘raw’ magic than channeling into potions or other things.
~She from the Vesuvian equivalent of Wales. Mountains, valleys and greenery.
~She can’t swim and has a fear of drowning or being fully submerged in a large body of water.
~Her favourite food is a sweet, spiced fruit bread from her old home. Her favourite flowers are Lily of the valley.

Hanyu Yuzuru - Starting from his face, Falling for his talent, Staying for his character
Note: This is a translation of an original article by Vogue China for their WeiXin/WeChat mobile platform. I’m quite surprised this actually made the cut, even if it’s just content for Vogue China’s mobile platform. What started as a Hanyu costume appreciation article quickly revealed its true form as a Hanyu appreciation post and the fangirling is anything but subtle. Not that I minded Ci The words in the brackets and the ~ are not my translator’s notes and personal input but are part of the original article. Captions for photos are in italics.

There are more pics and gifs there, the writer has definitely spent a lot of time and effort on this labor of love so do check it out. Even if you don’t understand Chinese, a picture speaks a thousand words, so let all the pics do all the talking for you.

"Blue roses do not exist, Hanyu as well, he gives an impression that he does not belong in this world", Japanese photographer Ninagawa Mika has said this of Hanyu Yuzuru. This youth who is already a legend at the tender age of 23, what other miracle-like surprises can he bring us?
Every year, the Japanese imperial family will host a spring garden party and invite outstanding personalities from all fields to view the flowers, converse, eat delicious food and listen to music at the Shinjuku Gyo-en.
This year, among the 1940 guests, one person’s arrival created a stir among the assembled ladies - he is 2 times Olympic champion Hanyu Yuzuru.
Just a few days ago. Hanyu Yuzuru held a celebratory parade in his hometown Sendai with over a hundred thousand people in attendance. This year, he was invited to the garden party (the last time was after he won in 2014), and even the princesses revealed that they had held hands together to cheer for him (insert fangirl heart eyes) ~
In this type of formal setting, female guests normally choose kimonos or suits while male guests usually appear in hakamas, suits or uniforms.
Tumblr media
Hanyu who has donned suits both times has said that he prefers a slim-cut which fits his body well. He might have said so, but perhaps Hanyu is too slender (actually his muscles are well-developed, and his body fat percentage is super low), it is hard for a run-of-the-mill suit to fit well on his body.
Tumblr media
Hanyu at last week’s parade. His suit might not be the best fit, but it is way better than his uncle suit from years ago~
Compared to the western suit, actually a traditional hakama suits Hanyu better, but this super low-profile Olympic champion really doesn’t have too many opportunities to show us~
Tumblr media
Hanyu’s first appearance in a hakama for a 2015 photo shoot
A earphone-maniac and game otaku, this prince-on-ice who exudes an ethereal aura doesn’t really care about fashion in his private style, basically he lives in sportswear.
Tumblr media
Sportswear can actually look so good ~~
He seldom does magazine photo shoots, after all he is not an idol or celebrity (but once he does, it’s a big production)
Tumblr media

However on the ice, Hanyu’s style is varying and elaborate, every costume can be said to be a piece of art. Asymmetrical designs, crystals, gradation, Japanese style, classic, lace…...a perfect combination of masculine heroic spirit and feminine softness and beauty.
Figure skating is about both athleticism and artistry, and as the ‘absolute champion’ of this sport,  Hanyu has already declared that he is one-of-a-kind just from his costumes.
CHOPIN BALLADE NO.1

Tumblr media
The Olympic version where he passes his hand through his hair with shut eyes
We’ve already established that Hanyu is a ‘skating fairy’, Chopin is a program which best embodies his ethereal aura and elegance.
Tumblr media
After the end of the 2014 Olympic season, Chopin V1.0 made its debut. From the white to blue gradation, the rows of crystal embellishments and the flowy lantern sleeves, it creates the effect of a grand introduction and conclusion while on the ice, and reflects the leisure and calmness of this well-known piece of music.
Tumblr media
Close up of V1.0. Not only are there rhinestones, you can also see the blue-purple pearl embellishments
Tumblr media
Chopin V2.0
For Chopin V2.0 in the 2015 season, the color of the costume has changed from sapphire-blue to sky-blue, and gold elements have been added to the sleeves and waist. The belt is changed to gold as well (all of these reflecting the champion’s desire for gold).
Tumblr media
Olympic Chopin V3.0
For the Olympics season, the chosen blue shade is a deep sky-blue in between the colors of the previous versions. The gold elements are up-up-upgraded as well - gold crystals and pearls are added to the neckline and the colorful rhinestones on the gold belt are extremely shiny (yet very lowkey), a perfect complement to the rush of thick emotions and fanatical fervour of the ballade’s climax.
SEIMEI
— YUZURU'S COSTUME —
The most beautiful moment
Tumblr media
The opening “ Guiding both heaven and earth onto the right path” action
Hanyu’s signature hydroblading move (Hanyu himself says his eyes here can kill~)
Among all of Hanyu’s programs, Seimei which was inspired by the movie Onmyouji is definitely the most famous.
Tumblr media
Seimei V1.0
At an ice show before the start of the 2015 season, Hanyu revealed this program for the first time. After being redesigned by designer Ito Satomi and Hanyu, the Heian-era karigime becomes a lighter, more convenient and fitting costume.
Still from the movie Onmyouji, played by Nomura Mansai
Kyogen stage actor Nomura Mansai who plays Seimei in the movie had a one-to-one exchange with Hanyu and gave him a lot of suggestions on the hand movements, rhythm control and character understanding. When the program was officially debuted in competition, we saw ‘Hanyu Seimei’ V2.0.
Tumblr media
The most obvious changes were that the shoulders and waist were looser so as to allow for easier movement. The light green ribbon ties on the sleeves are now bordered by grass-green. There is an additional mesh insert on both the front and back. More gold embellishments and green embroidery and rhinestones were added. And the black gloves - there are many hand movements when Seimei casts his spells and the contrast between the black gloves and white rink is more stark.
Tumblr media
Close up of V2.0 details. Intricate gold bead work, embroidery and rhinestones
During this Olympic season, V3.0 makes an appearance. A large portion of the bead work and embroidery is removed and replaced with crystal embellishment instead (3000 pieces were allegedly used). The main reason for this change is to lighten the weight of the costume so that it is easier to jump.
Tumblr media
Even the belt is changed to a gold color which looks more majestic and as per the old design, it is embellished with crystals of varying sizes. There is a slight change in the color of the costume as well; a touch of deep red is added to the purple while the lace ties becomes cyan/teal.
Tumblr media
The front, back, sleeves and even the lower part of the shirt is embroidered with an even more lavish golden phoenix design (all in all, the champion must be commanding + regal), at the back there’s even a signature Seimei ‘5 point star’.
Usually, skating to Japanese-style music is not favorable in international competitions, but this program has helped him broke the world record twice and win the Olympics again in 2018. Actually, just from the details on this costume, you can already see how much he has fine-tuned this program’s choreography.
LET'S GO CRAZY
— YUZURU'S COSTUME —
Tumblr media
Skating on bent knee while bending backwards
In all of Hanyu’s programs, Let’s Go Crazy (nicknamed ‘Go Crazy’ by fans) is the program which drives fans the most-most-most crazy. Basically every time you watch it, you get a nosebleed. All the lil actions woven in the program are designed to bedazzle and drive you crazy.
This is Prince’s famous song. In April 2016, the pop star passed away. Hanyu, who was then preparing for the new season, together with his choreographer decided to use this song as a tribute to Prince and came up with a crazy and bold program.
Tumblr media
Comparison of the LGC costume with Prince’s costume, Yuzu’s costume is actually slightly sheer
Tumblr media
The inspiration for the costume came from Prince’s concert. This song was in the album ‘Purple Rain’ so the costume was mainly in purple. The vest over the shirt and the standing collar were all references to the outfit worn in the MV. The bead work and sparkles on the vest were also designed based on the photos.
His hair was also styled differently from the usual, his hair was combed back in a style that reveals his forehead, which was rare. Actually his hairstyle was based on Japan’s ‘i-ta men’ style. This term originates from the samurai Date Masamune who lived during the Japanese warring period. He was brave and valiant and excellent in warfare, yet he dressed magnificently, so ‘i-ta men’ was used to describe such men. Later it evolved to describe playboy/dandy type of men.
NOTTE STELLATA
— YUZURU'S COSTUME —
The most beautiful moment
Tumblr media
His silhouette during the sit spin resembles a swan
Notte Stellata is an exhibition program which Hanyu used for 2 seasons. In Italian, Notte Stellata means ‘a sky full of stars’.
During the Great East Japan earthquake seven years ago, Hanyu was at the Sendai ice rink practicing and after escaping, he sought refuge at a school gymnasium for several days. There was no electricity in the entire city and only the stars in the sky shone brightly, planting seeds of hope in the youngster’s heart and hence this program came to be.
Tumblr media
Adorned with white feathers and featuring a daring off-shoulder design and deep V-cuts in both the front and the back, the costume has the grace and elegance of a swan; and the crystals scattered on the sleeves and the bodice are just like the stars in the sky.
Perhaps it is his perpetual youthful looks and his slender body frame, even in a design which seems feminine, Hanyu is able to make it his own. This is one of his special traits.
Actually most of Hanyu’s exhibition pieces revolve around a common theme - praying and wishing the best for the disaster area. Having ‘escaped’ after the earthquake, he has always felt that he has not done enough for the disaster area, so he has donated his bonus for winning the Olympics and the revenue from the sales of his autobiography and so on, and he has always tried his best to express these emotions during his exhibition skates.

Tumblr media
So most of Hanyu’s costumes for his exhibitions are usually softer compared to his costumes for his competitions and are usually made of chiffon with pleating and floral decorative details. Under the dim lights on the ice rink during the exhibition, it is like a beacon of light, full of life.
HOPE & LEGACY
— YUZURU'S COSTUME —
The most beautiful moment
Tumblr media
Hanyu’s signature Ina Bauer
The Biellmann spin which usually can only be done by female skaters, it requires the body to be very flexible
This is the most emotive of all of Hanyu’s free skate programs and till today, it still holds the world record for the highest score for the free skate. Hope & Legacy is the theme song for the 1998 Nagano Paralympics and is composed by the famous Hisaishi Joe. And this year is exactly the year Hanyu started skating.
This program is like an exchange between Hanyu himself and the ice rink, Since he started skating at 4 years old, figure skating is almost his entire life. From longing to desire to adversity to fear and finally to the release of emotions and rapture, these were all showcased in a single breath.
Tumblr media
Just like the blue, green and white gradation signifies the the sky, the earth and the rink, everything is as natural as the floating clouds and flowing waters, and the scattered rhinestones are clustered even more closely than before, just like the shining marks that Hanyu has left behind in his journey.
It is indeed profound that after a mistake resulting in him in fifth place after the short program at the 2017 World championships, he went on to perform this free skate perfectly and broke the world record at 223.20 points, creating the impossible and aiding him in capturing the gold medal.
This costume actually has a ‘previous form’ six years ago. It was the season right after the 311 earthquake and the short program is titled Etude.
Tumblr media
To Hanyu, this is a costume which was in remembrance of the disaster, the many layers of blue are used to express the giant waves and the sea and to commemorate everything that was lost in the earthquake and the tsunami. At that time, he was only 17 and he could already deliver such a soulful performance.
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
— YUZURU'S COSTUME —
The most beautiful moment
Tumblr media
The hand movements depicting wearing and removing the mask
POTO is a classic song that has been used by many other figure skaters, yet Hanyu’s interpretation still manages to inject freshness.
The earliest version was pieced together from red, black and white fabrics in a asymmetrical fashion (the black part is openwork lace) and aptly fits the character who has lost himself in his obsession for his love and has the resplendence of the men’s court attire in the 19th century.
Tumblr media
However, this costume was sealed after just wearing it once; before the competition he collided heavily with another skater and sustained severe external and internal injuries and even had to have an operation. Hence this version of POTO was never seen again in competitions.
Tumblr media
The redesigned POTO costume went from figurative to an imagery style, the concept of the veined patterns are interlaced with the doomed love between the angel and the phantom, but the designs on the collar, the end of the sleeves and the waist still retains the elements of the Romanticism period.
PARISIENNE WALKWAYS
— YUZURU'S COSTUME —
Tumblr media
The opening brushing his hands-over-head and raising his leg teasing move
Tumblr media
The handsome side-lunge and point move
Fans call it the ‘Big Parisienne Saunter’ and it’s the program that has made many fall for him. Hanyu started using this short program since the 2012 season, and it is from this time that he started breaking all kinds of records, and it even became the first short program to ever break the hundred point barrier at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
At first glance, it looks like a simple shirt + belt + pants combination, but actually the shirt is full of thoughtful details: the pleats on the front and back are adorned with sparkles, and in line with the blue and white color scheme which seems like the blue sky, the sparkles look like shiny stars hiding in the clouds, which perfectly matches the aura of the youth who had just turned legal.
Tumblr media
There’s a detail here, which is our ‘perfectionist’ Hanyu even had a matching bottle cover with his costume (it should be hand-made by Hanyu’s mum’s deft hands) ~
An elaborate figure skating costume can easily cost up to ten-thousands, Hanyu's costumes were initially designed and hand-made by his mother and subsequently he collaborated with designers Orihara Shizuko, Ito Satomi and famous figure skating veteran Johnny Weir. Every costume is worth to be admired and appreciated. Actually Japan is holding a Hanyu photo and costume exhibition, if you’re in town, why not go take a look?

For an Olympic gold medallist to have such high popularity, can it just be attributed to his appearance and the sport’s intrinsic entertainment value? To explain, we can probably use the well-known phrase “starting from his face, falling for his talent, staying for his character”.
2 times consecutive Olympics champion, 12 times world record breaker and the current record holder for the highest scores for the short program, the free skate and the combined scores, behind these hard facts are his perfectionism and determined performances.
“There is no meaning if you do not try your best at doing what can be done, this cannot be called ‘staking your life’.”
Every time before he goes on the ice, he’ll touch the ice as a sign of respect towards the sport
To clearly say “hate to lose” these three words, Hanyu seems like a high-spirited teenager. As long as it’s a silver, he will be super frustrated. He doesn’t just does highly difficult jumps, he combines them with difficult entries and exits to score the maximum GOE. His techniques in competition are clean, there are definitely no petty tricks. He has many injuries and his condition seems to fluctuate high and low but he has never faltered at the crucial timing. When some athletes choose to retire after becoming famous, he is still passionate about the sport and has declared that he wants to challenge the 4A and quintuple jumps…… Just as Hanyu himself said, “I have bet my entire life on skating”.
Just a strong determination is not enough, Hanyu’s brain can be said to not lose to his athletic ability. He is enrolled in Waseda University and is able to respond within seconds to change his jump layout to make up for lost points. He has produced his own ice show and his candid responses to tricky questions from reporters are all charming points both on and off the ice.
“I do not talk about who my rival is, I am my only rival”
“Although this is just my way of thinking, the ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ in life will balance out, and finally result in zero”
We hope that the name ‘Hanyu Yuzuru’ will live on forever and become a power of vision and a light of tenderness.

The Kingdom of Rychilla - An Overview
The Kingdom of Rychilla is a mostly agrarian society, with farms radiating outwards from most of the towns.  Most of the rest of the kingdom is covered by forests, and a network of rivers runs across it.  The kingdom is roughly in the shape of a triangle, with a coastline running north-to-south.  The south-west border is marked by the Druhlash mountains, occupied by the Druhlac.  The north-west border is where the kingom meets the Raron Desert.
The kingdom is currently going through the Age of Magic.  Elemental magic was discovered about a century ago and since then, it's driven the development of Rychillan technology.  At present, it can best be described as 'steampunk magitech'.  Fire and water type magic are used to generate steam, which powers piston as per a steam engine from our world.  Energy for magic comes from crystals, which start opaque and become more translucent as the energy in them is used up.  There are five elements, each with a corresponding colour of crystal:
Fire (orange)
Water (blue)
Ground (brown)
Air (white/cream)
Flora (khaki-green)
In order to be able to use the energy from within the crystals, humans (i.e. Rychillans and Druhlac) need to have skin contact with it.  As such, the jewellery they wear (necklaces, bracelets, rings) is designed to hold crystals in contact with their skin.  This jewellery also has clasps and catches in it, to allow the crystals to be swapped out.
For fairies, they just need to have the crystals near their skin.  As such, they usually wear their crystals in their belt buckle, again with clasps and whatnot to release it.  Fairies always wear a belt.
Steam engines are usually used to power larger vehicles, like cars, ships and airships.  Smaller devices usually use a wound spring and clockwork.
Most of the action in my stories takes place in the town of Alkentoft.  It's a major trade port, nestled on the east coast of the kingdom at the foot of the Druhlash mountains.  Most of the structures are only one or two levels, and are made of bricks.  There's no mortar, instead the bricks are fused together using groundkind magic.
Notable locations include:
The airship terminal, which is 8 stories high.  It's got a two-level hall at the base of it, then three spires which stick up into the sky.  Airships moor at these spires, and the passengers climb a spiral staircase inside them to reach the airships and board them.
The town hall.  This is the second-largest structure in Alkentoft, after the airship terminal.  It has three levels of offices, then a dome makes up the fourth level.  This dome has windows running all around it, and is the office of the Steward.  He's the regional governor, and Alkentoft is the regional capital.
The harbour, which is where goods and produce are loaded onto ships to be sent east.
The temple.  This is devoted to the goddess Luxanke the Provider, who is worshipped by the Rychillans.  It's an octagonal building, with 8 altars inside.
Like all Rychillan towns, Alkentoft has cobblestone streets, with cobblestone roads joining it to neighbouring towns through the forest and countryside.
***
The People
There are three main races who can be seen in Alkentoft.  There's the Rychillans, Fairies, and Druhlac.  The latter live in the Druhlash mountains, and visit Rychilla to trade.
Rychillans
The Rychillans are the humans who live in the Kingdom of Rychilla.  They're pretty close to the humans of our world, and usually stand between 5-6 feet tall.  Their gene pool is slightly different to ours, with medium-grey, brown and navy-blue hair and brown, grey and purple eyes naturally occurring.
Their fashion is steampunk-esque in design.
Law enforcement is done by the Town Guard, who are essentially the same as police constables on Earth.  Serious crimes are investigated by veritors, who are roughly the same as police inspectors.  They also worked their way up the ranks of the town guard before being made a veritor.  They're charged with 'investigating threats to the peace of the kingdom of Rychilla'.  Guard uniforms are maroon, which is the Rychillan royal colour.
Rychillan weapons are usually daggers or crossbows (no long swords).
Fairies
Fairies were the original inhabitants of the region covered by the Kingdom of Rychilla, back when it was all forest.  They live in villages amongst the trees, with huts built amongst the branches and off the trunks.  Rope-and-board walkways run between them.
Things weren't always amicable between the fairies and the Rychillans.  However, that changed during the Druhlac occupation of the west-south-west corner of the kingdom.  The Rychillans and Fairies joined forces to drive the Druhlac invaders back to the mountains whence they came.  Following this, the Accord of Reiksoft was signed, between the Rychillans and the Fairies.  This set out which areas of the forest were off-limits to humans, how much could be harvested from the forest, etc.  This led to cordial relations between the humans and the fairies.
Up until this point, the Rychillans had avoided building in parts of the forest where fairy villages were located.  The Accord of Reiksoft allowed them to build around fairy villages in the forest.  So in all but the smallest towns, there's at least one 'block' amongst the buildings which is a section of forest, surrounded on all four sides by cobblestone streets.  Each of these blocks has a fairy village in it.  There are three such villages in Alkentoft.
This led to two different fairy subcultures developing.  The forest fairies pretty much stayed the same, but the town fairies started to pick up elements of Rychillan culture.  These days, most town fairies are employed by Fairy Postmasters, and work as messengers carrying notes and small packages around town (in pouches slung around them).  They wear clothes that are close to Rychillan in design, as well as aviator goggles to protect their eyes while flying around.
Forest fairies, on the other hand, wear clothes woven from leafs and other plant materials, with no goggles.  They generally act as custodians and protectors of the forest.
All fairies are vegetarian, out of necessity.  Eating meat makes them ill.
Physically speaking, fairies are around 1/6 the size of humans, and usually stand around 1 foot tall.  Their wings have the same shape as those of a butterfly. Their wing colour varies, depending on which part of the forest they're from.  They also live to be around 200 years old.
Fairy weapons are usually small daggers (known as 'stingers'), bow-and-arrows and crossbows.
Druhlac
The Druhlac are a race of hunters and miners, who live up in the Druhlash mountains.  There's not much land for farming up there, so they can only really eat what they can hunt and forage for.  This is what drove some Druhlac tribes to occupy part of the Kingdom of Rychilla.  After they were driven back to the mountains, they decided to do what the non-invading tribes were already doing.  That is, trading with the Rychillans.
They do have something the Rychillans want.  Namely, the crystals used for the elemental magic.  These are mined from within the mountains.  There are some Rychillan mines in the foothills, but these can't supply the whole kingdom.  As such, Druhlac traders frequently visit Alkentoft.
They are humans, but with a few differences to Rychillans.  Druhlac usually stand between 6 feet and 4 inches and 6 feet 8 inches, with 6 feet 6 inches being the average height.  Their skin is mottled, to help them blend in amongst the leaves and plants of the forest while they're hunting.  Their bodies are more muscular than those of the average human.  Not to bodybuilder levels, but what you'd see on a pro athlete.  They have two horns, one on either side of their head.  These emerge just above and behind their ears, go straight out for about 1 inch, then turn 90 degrees and point backwards horizontally.  The point of them is level with the back of their skull.  These horns are dark cream in colour, and smooth.  They act to help amplify the Druhlac's natural hearing, especially in relation to things happening behind them - they pick up sound waves in the air and transmit them through the skull to the ear bones.  Their hair is either brown or black, eyes are either brown or hazel.
Druhlac weapons are usually daggers, bow-and-arrow and spears.  The latter were originally hand-thrown, but these days they're launched from a variation on a crossbow.  They're mainly used for hunting.

Designer Sarees with rich textures and a lot of embellishment
When looking through the latest wedding sarees collection, the diversity of wonderfully rich and exquisite designs and patterns stands out.
The Indian wedding sari is the ideal canvas for displaying the many kinds of embroidery and decorations found in different parts of the country. Resham, zari, and gold print work may be seen in everyday sarees, but sequins, Kundan, crystals, Gota Patti, zardosi, Dabka, latkan, are some of the bride’s favorites too, especially those who seek an authentic style.
Women saree patterns can feature-complete sceneries, swirls, and stylized abstractions, as well as natural themes like leaves, fruits, flowers, birds, and animals. Regardless of the motif, the pattern will be elaborate, spanning throughout the entire saree and giving the thick borders a shimmering, weighty mood.
When looking through a variety of wedding sarees for the bride, the most common hues seen are scarlet, maroon, crimson, and various shades of red. This is because red is the traditional color for most wedding sarees, which often feature a lot of gold thread work.
Banarasi silk sarees and South Indian sarees
South Indian wedding sarees, on the other hand, come in a wide range of colors, from yellow to green to brilliant crimson. Kerala wedding sarees, in reality, are white with huge gold borders, which is a deviation from the usual saree color palette.
Modern brides aren’t afraid to experiment with various bright tones of pink, yellow, purple, blue, and green, so there are a lot of color options now. Multi-hued sarees are also available, which look great when paired with glistening stone and zari work.
Traditional north Indian bridal dress is Banarasi silk sarees, whereas Kanjeevaram silk wedding sarees are used in the south. Tussar, Jacquard, and Dupion, are some of the most popular fabrics.
Colors of Wedding Sarees
One of the most significant aspects of choosing an attractive-looking top designer wedding saree for your special day is the usual colors. Of course, with all eyes on you, you must choose a vibrant and eye-catching hue. However, you must also seek hues that can accentuate your beauty even more.
Look for hues like pink, peach, pastel pink, orange-pink, rose pink, maroon, or red, for example. All of these wedding saree colors can enhance your attractiveness even more while guaranteeing that you are admired by others.
Adding finishing touches to your wedding saree
Weddings are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your cultural heritage. But they can also be a terrific opportunity to flaunt the current designs and trends. With their body-hugging shape and metallic hues – the latest wedding sarees have more western silhouettes. That meant to more closely mimic evening dresses.
At the same time, designer wedding catwalk shows and collections usually feature elaborate Indian embroidery and decorations. Thus a fashion-conscious bride will strive to balance the Indian and modern inspirations in her gown. The bride’s fashion sense might be reflected in the color scheme.
For example, white wedding sarees aren’t only for Keralites. Several designers have experimented with white and other mild colors such as beige, cream, and rose in their most recent collections. These sarees are richly embroidered with silver or gold motifs to provide the ornate aspect that is so important.
However, some hues, such as red and orange, never go out of vogue. The traditional red bridal saree should be paired with heavy gold jewelry such as Thewa necklaces and Polki jewelry. Ornate jewelry, such as Kundan and Meenakari, blends well with Indian wedding sarees in general.

31 (Buckle)
Surprise extra ffxivwrite day! You get my cat being a stubborn teenager. This is technically another quick prompt from the Bookclub, and again is. Significantly more than 100 words, though we're not at "Star" levels of ridiculous this time.
Tumblr media
Neither he nor Thancred held up well to scrutiny.
(m!WoLxHaurchefant)
The hum and bustle of the Rising Stones was quiet as the evening gloom settled over Mor Dhona. All but a small few of the Crystal Braves were otherwise engaged, and the remaining Scions spread out over the space. It did not quite feel empty, but it was far from full.
In the back room, which had but a few moons prior been converted to something akin to a training area, Ar’telan was stood opposite Hoary Boulder and Coultenet, grimoire in one hand, the other held out to better command the egi he had summoned. A small group of Domans had gathered around them, watching with awe and interest as Coultenet did a few minor feats of thaumaturgy to test its endurance. The robes that the Sons of Saint Coinach had recovered from their dig site did not fit as well as they might, but the aetheric threads woven throughout the fabric were still more than enough for Ar’telan to feel the difference.
“These constructs are truly fascinating,” Coultenet remarked as the egi dispersed with a burst of heat and light. “To be so similar to the primals from which they are drawn, but safe and contained… A fascinating art to revive.”
“Assuming people want to get close enough to a primal to try,” Hoary added, and Ar’telan grimaced.
“I think I would avoid it given the chance,” he agreed, returning the grimoire to its bag, clipped onto the belt of his new jacket. “Thank you for the tests.”
“Any time, my friend!” Coultenet replied, and Ar’telan offered a slight smile as payment for their time.
F’lhaminn nodded at him as he passed the little bar, Moenbryda and Thancred clearly making use of it in a table off to one side.Thancred was far worse for wear than Moenbryda was, which was impressive given the constitution Ar’telan knew Thancred had for drink, but a sideways glance at Moenbryda’s half of the table also suggested she had not exactly been keeping pace with him.
“Oh, are those the summoner robes?” Y’shtola remarked, looking up from the documents she was staring at. Ar’telan nodded, and she got to her feet, examining the outfit with a nod of appreciation. “Y’mhitra has told me a little of what you have been doing. I hadn’t realised it had come so far.”
“It was luck more than anything else,” Ar’telan replied. “The Sons found some coffers in their site by the Crystal Tower.” Y’shtola nodded again, one hand raised to her chin in thought.
“Considering where they found the soul crystals, that is unsurprising,” she said. “Have you not the horn?” Ar’telan cringed, fishing the bright red contraption out of one of the jacket’s many pockets.
“It looks a little silly.” he said, but Y’shtola motioned to him to put it on, so he fastened the straps around the back of his head, adjusting the front until it sat on his forehead in a way that passed for comfortable. The horn channeled aetheric energies, he knew that much, but the vibrant red creation made him look like a particularly well-dressed unicorn.
“Fascinating. I have read a few studies on the subject of summoning, though nothing like as many as my sister,” Y’shtola said, reaching up to help Ar’telan adjust the horn. “They never did find anything quite so adept at focussing primal aether than these creations, though as I understand it a number of potential designs existed.”
“What on earth is that on your head?” Moenbryda said, leaning back in her chair to get a better view of the allagan miscreation.
“An evoker’s horn,” Ar’telan replied, feeling embarrassment sink into every fibre of his being.
“It is an Allagan artifact of immense power,” Y’shtola clarified, not that she had seen his response. “It aids in amplifying the primal energies that summoners call upon to command their egis.” Thancred squinted. Ar’telan wasn’t sure if it was to focus, or just because of the alcohol.
“Y’know what it looks like,” he started, and Moenbryda rolled her eyes.
“An ancient. And powerful. Artifact?” Y’shtola offered, her voice terse. Thancred made a noise that might once have been amusement, but just sounded like a sideways cackle.
“Could prob’ly’ve got one cheaper in th’ right alley in Limsa,” he slurred, Moenbryda gently confiscating the bottle he reached for lest he make the situation worse. Ar’telan reached up, but Y’shtola put one hand gently on top of his arm to stop him from just pulling the horn from his head.
“Thank you for your contribution, Thancred,” she said, shaking her head at his antics. “You are fine, Ar’telan. Perhaps if it bothers you a glamour prism may assist?”
“Y’mhitra said that might interfere with the aetheric signatures,” Ar’telan said. “Something about the weave having its own-”
“Gotta have somethin’ worth takin’ t’... th’ ‘lezen you’re after,” Thancred said, and Ar’telan tensed. He could feel Y’shtola try to pull him away, but he turned back around regardless.
“We are not-”
“Wha’, he’sh a slut f’any advent’rer in, in Eorzea, but not f’you?” Thancred said. Moenbryda grimaced. “M’be you need a bigger ‘horn’.”
The silence carried the same tension that it always did when he and Thancred argued now. Y’shtola had told him not to rise to the beat, that Thancred would regret what he said when he sobered up, to be the bigger man. But it stung. Stung that he hadn’t been good enough to repair things after Lahabrea’s meddling, that Thancred would rather trade jipes and drink himself into unconsciousness than try.
“Haurchefant doesn’t-” Ar’telan started, but Thancred waved a dismissive hand at him and looked away from his attempts to sign a defence.
“Thancred, I think you have had quite enough to drink,” Y’shtola said, hands on her hips, disapproval colouring every syllable of her word. Thancred snorted.
“Y’ know ‘m right. Goin’ up to Coerthas ev’ry hour he can. Might’s well kneel at ‘is desk an’-”
Ar’telan pulled the evoker’s horn from his head and threw it across the room. It hit the table in front of Thancred, scattering the remains of bottles that rested there in pitiful emptiness, startling Moenbryda.
“Maybe they are more welcoming than my ‘friends’ here,” Ar’telan said, jaw clenched, and turned and walked from the Rising Stones. The door slammed behind him on the cacophony of noises that his swift departure started, from Y’shtola calling after him to Moenbryda attempting to salvage the situation with Thancred.
He didn’t care. He was tired of it. Over and over again they tried to reassure him, but for all they talked, none of them could ever stop Thancred when he was deep in his cups. Maybe Lahabrea had been right. Maybe he was just another tool to them, a primal-killing weapon, a convenient servant, content to smile and nod at every job they gave him, no matter how grim.
The crowd in Mor Dhona parted around him as he stomped through Revenant’s Toll, the workers on their breaks from building the walls to the refugees to the House of Splendors vendors all aware from the lines of tension on his face that he was not in the mood for talking. He took the north exit, the purple-tinged gloom of the Toll giving way quickly to the sharp cold of Coerthas.
Was he proving them right? Gods, maybe he was. His linkpearl chimed in his ear, and he ripped it out and stuck it in one of the pockets that the ancient robe had so many of. He had stood against primals, mastered the trails of aether they had left indelibly on his soul in their wake, torn tiny pieces of them from the aether, and his reward was crude jokes and the reminder that he did not matter beyond what he could give them.
The night had set in quickly, and Ar’telan was too far down the road to turn back by the time the cool air cleared his senses a little. The snow crunched under his feet, his passage leaving deeper marks in what was left of the trail than he was used to, and the wind was howling at a wicked clip. He didn’t want to go back to the Rising Stones, even though he anticipated that Thancred would be out cold, because Y’shtola would have that look on her face that spoke of despair at his childishness. Alphinaud wouldn’t even know what the issue was, just tut at his outbursts. He could go on to Dragonhead - they were not expecting him, but Haurchefant would always find room for him regardless. He had his grimoire, but he hadn’t intended to wear the old robes for long, and had basically nothing else. Not even enough gil to get to the aetheryte. Well, if he walked he would at least make it by morning.
The snow drove itself with a wicked sharpness into Ar’telan’s face, the collar of the coat doing little to protect him from its ravages. The knights of Ishgard had long since given up on lighting the trail, probably glad for the inhospitality keeping out the nosy outsiders who might try to weasel their way in. The glimmer of the aetheric core of Ice Sprites took Ar’telan from the path more than once, hoping it was the distant glow of the Observatorium’s tower, or even the one at the border, but with the deepening snow he was not even sure where the path was.
In short, he was lost.
With a huff of effort and a poorly-concealed shiver, Ar’telan picked a direction and walked in it. He could barely see in front of his face in the snow, so he pried the tome from his side with stiff fingers and invoked fire. It was not enough to warm him, but the glow inherent to Ifrit-egi’s being would serve the twin purposes of letting him not fall into a chasm and keeping away hungry beasts who thought to brave the cold for a quick meal.
After more trudging through thick snow than Ar’telan had even wanted to do in his life, he found - not civilisation, far from it, but an outcropping of rock, shielded from the worst of the storm. He ensconced himself within it, calling the egi close to him to try and get some of the warmth back into his fingers. Piling the snow up around his sides kept it from becoming a slurry of water wherever the egi hovered, but he was still freezing. Allag’s summoners had fought in warm places, he supposed - Meracydia was warmer than this, and surely it must also have been before the Calamity that had devastated so much of it. Maybe they hadn’t thought of how to fend off the snow.
He was tired. Everything felt heavy after his hours of walking, and now the tension was gone there was an ache in every muscle that had stiffened in misplaced anger. Huddled in a miserable heap with the feeling leeching out of every extremity, he wondered if it would matter if he closed his eyes, just for a moment. He pulled the coat from his back and put it over his head, to stop the wind from sneaking in. The egi would keep him safe. The beasts wouldn’t be out in this weather. If he closed his eyes for just a moment, the snow would stop…
It felt like breathing through slurry. He could hear voices, but couldn’t make out the words. With more effort than he had ever thought to put into something so simple, he forced his eyes open, and everything was blurred and out of focus.
He couldn’t see his egi, nor feel its presence in his aether. Couldn’t feel his fingers either, for that matter, or indeed most of his limbs. He heard the voices stop as he managed something akin to a groan - a distant cousin, perhaps, a whispered sound from what was left of his throat. Most of the figures left, but one walked up to him.
“Master Qin. Can you hear me?” The curt tones and painfully Ishgardian accent of Camp Dragonhead’s lead Chirurgeon. Ar’telan had worked with him more than once, helping to heal the wounded knights brought in from defending Ishgard from her many enemies.
Ar’telan tried to raised his hands to agree, and found them unresponsive, so he made a vague noise of assent and nodded his head. The chirurgeon sighed, and a little blinking brought his face into something resembling focus.
“They found you out on the road to the Observatorium. You were lucky-”
“Ar’telan!”
Haurchefant’s voice cut the chirurgeon off mid-sentence, and with a flurry of sound and movement the elezen was beside him. He could feel, just about, Haurchefant’s hands taking one of his, but it was still heavy and bitterly cold.
“When they brought you in we thought you dead. What possessed you to do something so foolish?” Haurchefant said, worry lining every word. “Out in a blizzard with nothing but a coat - you could have teleported to the aetheryte, something-”
“Lord Haurchefant,” the chirurgeon said, and Haurchefant shook his head, attempting to regain his composure and failing most utterly. He did not look like a man who had done much sleeping recently. With effort, Ar’telan willed his hands to respond, and signed something that came close to sorry.
“I know. Don’t try to move too much,” Haurchefant said. “They said they found you before the frostbite could set in properly, but it was a near thing. By the Fury, have you any idea how worried I- how worried we were?” Ar’telan managed a weak, pathetic little smile. He wanted to explain - wished it was so easy as speaking, though even that would have been difficult even if his throat was not damaged. Felt very foolish for needing to explain something so embarrassing as the sequence of events that had led him to this shameful state.
“We have contacted your friends in the Scions,” the chirurgeon added, making Ar’telan grimace. “The runner should be reaching them presently, assuming they were not waylaid by heretics, as seems to be the flavour of the moon.” Haurchefant made a weary noise, a harried look on his face at the reminder.
“It will take you a few days until you can move about properly again,” he said, looking as though it pained him to say it. “Though the chirurgeons will stay with you, of course. Just… promise me you will never do something so foolish again.” Ar’telan tried to flex his fingers, and Haurchefant took his hand again, the warmth of him radiating through every digit, though not quite enough to stir them to action.
He nodded his head, and hoped that it conveyed a promise more than a yes.

Yellow Light (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Loki X Reader, hint of Thor X Reader Word Count: 1900 Warnings: None
-Part 1- -Part 2- -Part 3-
How was it possible to crave the cold? Left alone to feel sweaty, burn in panic at the sudden loss of it? Thor tried not to pace, his fingers instead, itching as Tony explained his system was tampered with, one minute you were there and the next all of FRIDAY went silent for five minutes. The slightest hint of a body appearing in the room before it shorted out and everything went black.
The worst part was the sight of you lingering by the door after it shut, after he left you alone. Your hand ran down the door as your head dipped sullenly. He shouldn’t have left you alone. A part of Thor wanted to stay, feeling how lonely you’d become even if you wouldn’t admit it aloud. But he never quite trusted himself around you for long, your company so easy to be in, certain temptations always edging on his mind, edging dangerously with the drinks.
Some radio residue was left in the center of the room, nothing recognized as earthly, but Thor knew it well. The kind of energy needed for folding the universe for a brief moment, something that would need to take months in preparation, longer if done alone. Thor tensed all over, his teeth aching as his jaw clutched tight. Stepping back from the computer screens he reassured Tony, “She isn’t on Earth anymore.”
He began walking away when Tony jumped up, following close behind, “What do you mean ‘she isn’t on Earth’ anymore? Where is she?” Thor only sighed but didn’t stop, taking great pains to force back his denial. “Hey!” Tony grabbed his arm and yanked Thor to face him. “Where are you going? Where is she?”
“I have to go to Asgard.” The frustration of it all bubbled out in a bitter laugh. “The only other person to know about her and have that kind of magic… was Loki.”
Tony took back. “Loki?” Thor nodded, unable to look at him, feeling so much shame it hurt. “What would Loki want with her? I know he was a little fascinated and tried to mind control her to his side a couple times but, I mean, I feel like he could find someone similar when the literal galaxy is open to him.”
“I don’t know if it had anything to do with her powers.” Thor mumbled. In a sudden switch he clapped a hand on Tony’s shoulder, brushing aside the deeply confused and concerned look, “I’ll find her. I’ll bring her home. I swear it.”
Tony was growing annoyed with the refusal to explain anything further, grinding his teeth before looking back at his system that failed to protect you in the first place. A hard determination filled his eyes before looking back, “I’m coming with you.”
Lurching his hand back, Thor stared appalled. “Absolutely not.”
“This is my fault-”
“It really isn’t-”
“I’m not just going to sit here while she’s out in the galaxy with your maniac brother!” It was hard not to see the guilt and blame in Tony, knowing his equipment failed not just him but you when this was supposed to be the safest place in the world. Then again it was also hard not to see the trouble he’d be in bringing Tony.
Closing your eyes and walking through, it was like stepping into a cave. At first you thought you had, until you looked up. There room was pitch black but far above your head was a perfect circle for the sky, stars twinkling in a globe. When a light came, a ball of pure white glowing from Loki’s hand, he smiled to you in revealing a dome room of metal, the walls etched with large circles overlapping and craved in ruins. It was almost sad with it’s forgotten condition, the metal rusted and cracked, caked in a layer of ice yet a bit glossy now, like it had been blasted with heat. Below your feet was a raised platform, eight deep gutter lines reached out from under it, steaming though nothing was in them.
Loki stepped closer to you, “Do me a favor? Lift us through that hole in the ceiling would you?”
Looking between him and the ceiling, it appeared the most sensible thing to do with the only exit in front of you two caved in. Reluctantly, you let go of him to crouched down. Most of the ice you created was pulled from the air, but strangely you felt a surge jump up your arms as you reached for the cold. Nothing was created, but you felt ice stretch far beyond you, feeling almost eager to be used on your call. There was just so much of it.
“Something wrong?”
You looked up at him, a quirk to his lips he failed to hide. “N-no.”
Focusing, a pillar started springing from below your feet, slow at first, gradually growing faster to not unstable balance. The pillar grew high, far higher than you intended and the winds were harsh outside the dome. A thin but strong clear layer of ice sprouted up to protect you and him from being pushed off before you lifted your hands. It was all so easy, so effortless on your endurance, in fact you felt energized. You didn’t tell him any of that, instead tried to hold back the unease. Loki seemed to get it anyway, looking from your hands you were busy examining and smiling a bit wider when you caught his eye. You gave him a stubborn grump face before looking out.
The world was struck in midnight, not sun and no moon above a sky blanketed in stars, clouds of cosmic dust painting it purples and blues. The mountains that encased the area were so large and so tall they disappeared in black grey clouds, silhouetted giants the harsh winds withered away the snow from. There were no trees, no animals, but below, the pillar stood in the dead center of ruins stretching far and wide.
It was clear to you a battle had visited the once capital city. Blasted gaping holes in buildings, the things inside left in their final place, forgotten by fleeing citizens. Littered were glowing blue stones helping you discern it all between toppled towers and demolished aches. You wondered if they’d been street lamps once, and tried to imagine the city when it was vibrant and alive. Mystical as it seemed to only glitter with a small layer of ice, the snow stopping at its borders by seemingly nothing.
Bewildered and bewitched, you whispered, “What is this place?”
“A world you’ve heard so often, yet never taken to.” His hand raised to you, brushing along your jaw for your attention. You responded instantly to the feather touch, looking to him as he announced, “Jotunheim.”
You watched as his skin darkened under contact with you, dragging your eyes away to the city again. “What happened?”
“They once had their own form of civilization, at least had started creating a stable environment for themselves. Ah, but old traditions, how hard they die.” He didn’t take his eyes off you, looking into yours that were so distracted on the silent and broken kingdom. “Frost Giants are war-bound creatures, valuing their strength and itching to use it, to prove themselves and conquer all others weaker than them. They threw their chance to the wind. As they lost their impossible war they abandoned their progress, feeling the pleasures of life is what made them weak, retreating back into the caves and mountains.”
Pulling close to him, staring off feeling like you’d catch ghosts between the alleys, Loki whispered down to you. “I want you to remake it.”
Taken back, he chuckled at you, white teeth between cold blue lips and teasing red eyes, “No one is here but you and me. This history is loathed among them. Take it, create something only you can.”
Feeling overwhelmed by the request you stepped back and fiddled, “I-I’m not strong enough to make a city, I don’t even know how that would really work I-”
“Have you ever tried?” Of course you hadn’t. Even if you wanted to, it would only panic everyone, the true extent of your abilities left uncharted for their comfort. But even still, could you really? Loki took your lowered chin, pulling it up to face him from your doubt. “Try.”
Ironically a shiver ran down your spine. Finding some stability, you sighed and crouched down again, both hands on the platform. Again it was like a jolt of electricity, gluing your hands and taunting you to covered the world in an unending glacier of ice. Instead you drew up the already set layout, the forgotten marks not quite withered away, shocking yourself with how far your reach could spread.
Your abilities were only limited by your imagination now, pulling up on the chill around and below you, feeling it crawl high like a swarm, lifting the stones in their place, using the ice to crystallize into a finished smooth layer.
Loki watched it all from up high, like a garden flourishing, molding into something of dreams. The city shimmered and glowed anew as building crawled to a stand, bridges connecting the higher layers. He stepped forward as a massive tower in the distance began to crack and burst, reshaping like a flower blooming, vines spinning and encasing it, spreading wide in a clear layer to form a bubbled cone, others joining a little ways below it. Loki couldn’t help but smile. It seemed you were thinking of the future, perhaps already claiming a castle for yourself. Looking to you, a blizzard orb began swirling around you, streaks of blue lightning cracking from your hands and brewing a storm in the pedestal you and him stood on.
Suddenly as the glowing stones cracked and started to glow the city, the pedestal began to lower, melt away back into Jotunheim's abandoned and barely working Bifrost. Inside glowed a pale blue with stones decorating the platform in a spinning mosaic. The ice was gone from the rusted metal and the exit remade and devoid of rubble, the doors wide open, a thin layer of glistening ice to keep them all together in an effort to show the design once carved into it a thousand years ago.
In a release of breath at the magnificent power displayed, he looked back in time to see you stumble to stand. Quickly he caught you, nitrogen mist steaming from your beautiful skin and spilling from your lips. Your pupils were wide and glowing white as you looked up to him, “That was amazing.” You sighed into a smile tainted in bliss.
Loki chuckled at that, his voice bouncing off the clean and lit dome. Your smoking hand came up and caressed his cheek, making him still a moment as his skin changed to it’s darker hues. There was such adoration in your eyes as you whispered, “You are so beautiful.”
His smile faded as your white stare gazed into his red eyes. Loki tilted his head curiously. Seeing how your mind was as clouded as the fog bellowing from you, he wondered how he really looked to you. Using his free hand, no longer needing to create a light, he lifted your legs and carried you away into your city. You were going to need your mind for when the residence of this cold planet caught wind of your creation from their abandoned and forbidden lands.

MARBLE-GRANITE-NATURAL-STONE
Marble has a timelessly elegant charm, be it used for the living rooms, kitchen countertops, or bathrooms. The most important thing to understand about marble is that it isn’t manufactured or made. Marble is a natural stone. It is a crystallized form of limestone. Marble cannot be made in a factory. It is found naturally in the crust of our Earth, is formed when a large amount of pressure and heat act on limestone. That is why marble is so often found near tectonic plates. When the tectonic plates shift, they put an unimaginable amount of pressure on any limestone in the crust, which in turn forms marble. This is a process that happens over the span of millions of years and cannot be replicated at the same level in any factory.

Willett Pot Still: The Liquid #BourbonTok Loves to Hate
Tumblr media
For more stories on TikTok, check out our whole series here.
“What’s up Bourbon TikTok? … Today I want to tell you about my least favorite bottle in my collection,” says Chad Watson, a Lexington, Ky.-based bourbon enthusiast who goes by @mydailybourbon. Wearing a black tie with a zippered gray jacket, over the next 40 seconds Watson discusses how much he dislikes Willett Pot Still Reserve — “too malty, too earthy, too grassy” — which has become the bourbon that TikTokers most love to hate.
Spend any amount of time on so-called Bourbon TikTok and you can’t help but run across hundreds of reviews for Willett Pot Still Reserve. Some are professional, most are amateur, a few are earnest, many more are comical, bordering on cruel. And they’re nearly all negative, as though slamming this particular whiskey is a rite of passage in becoming a bourbon reviewer on the exceedingly popular platform.
So how did Willett Pot Still Reserve become the most dunked-on bourbon in all of TikTok?
“TikTokers are doing a service that others in the blogging, YouTube, Instagram, and even the podcast space can’t,” believes Kenny Coleman, host of the Bourbon Pursuit podcast. He says that once something like these Willett Pot Still slams take off via TikTok’s algorithm, more are certain to follow. “So now bourbon reviewers on TikTok are getting a message out to people who didn’t necessarily know there even are bourbon reviews,” he says.

Zero Point Zero
For connoisseurs, Willett holds a hallowed position in the American whiskey pantheon. The company humbly began in 1984 when Even Kulsveen purchased it from his father-in-law, Thompson Willett, and renamed it Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. But Kulsveen wasn’t actually distilling anything, instead sourcing unwanted stock from nearby distilleries like Bernheim, Four Roses, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, and the vaunted Stitzel-Weller.
As the modern American whiskey boom began to take shape in the early aughts, Kulsveen’s son Drew began releasing their most primo stock as cask-strength, non-chill-filtered single barrels under the umbrella Willett Family Estate. Some of these, with names like Red Hook Rye, Doug’s Green Ink, and Rathskeller Rye, became some of the most acclaimed releases in American whiskey history. Pretty much all Willett Family Estate bottlings released since 2006 now sell for hundreds if not thousands of dollars — and, if you lack knowledge and connections, you really have no chance to ever score any.
“Purple tops, green tops, that’s fun stuff, but when it comes to [Pot Still] … it’s just not for me,” says Watson.
Unfortunately, almost all Willett looks identical — Cognac-style bottles topped with, as Watson mentions, purple foil tops, green foil tops, or white wax. All are slapped with stark white labels featuring the Willett family crest, with the only identifying differences being tiny, handwritten details indicating each bottle’s age, proof, and sometimes an esoteric barrel number. (For a while, the whiskey internet circulated a Google spreadsheet to keep track of these barrel numbers.) All this is what makes the Willett portfolio, if you will, completely inscrutable to newcomers.
“Willett is a very notable brand and people love to chase their limited releases,” says Watson. “So Willett does what most brands would do in that case: creates a product that draws people with their eyes, is priced decently, and is pretty much always available.”
That product, of course, being Willett Pot Still Reserve, the only Willett whiskey ever released into the mainstream. And that’s where I suspect the cognitive dissonance sets in.
Newcomers to the bourbon hobby see the reverent tones Willett is spoken with online, then assume that all Willett is the great Willett that whiskey geeks have been stockpiling for years. The fact that Willett Pot Still Reserve comes in an eye-catching glass decanter — meant to look like a literal copper pot still — solidifies the fact they’ve stumbled upon a good score, which makes the ensuing disappointment once they finally taste it all the worse.
“What’s up guys and gals, this is Kent Davis, wanting to give you an honest bourbon review,” says @kentedavis33, speaking over a still image of the Pot Still bottle. His following nine-second TikTok is a succinct slam:
“Nice bottle, but zero point zero.”

Nicest Looking Bottle in My Collection
That “nice” bottle is exactly what leads to so much animus, claims Watson.
“Once people try the juice inside, they realize they have been duped,” says Watson. “For what seems like an amazing art piece, the liquid inside just doesn’t match the standard. It tastes young, earthy, and very green.”
Almost all Pot Still appearances on TikTok begin with the reviewer mentioning how much they like the bottle. In his review, Watson notes that the “bottle shape … is really cool.” “Pretty neat bottle…” says @glennflashwells. “Nicest looking bottle in my collection hands down,” says @mattybourbon. In many cases that will be the last wholly positive thing uttered by the reviewer.
Florida-based Andy Mauldin (@ronbourbondy) chose Willett Pot Still for his first-ever TikTok review earlier this year, claiming he’s never tried it before. Though even that doesn’t stop him from comically coughing after his first sip.
“Whahoooooaa, that is hot!” he exclaims as he struggles to clear his throat. He eventually calls Willett Pot Still Reserve “trash,” noting that the bottle is its “only redeeming quality.” Josh Grundemann (@bassinandbourbon) also coughs, nearly choking after sipping his first-ever Pot Still pour.
“That might be the worst bourbon I’ve ever tasted,” states the Louisiana man.

Is Willet Pot Still worth it? @60secondbourbonreview and @caseywarr do! Here’s my thoughts! #BourbonTikTok #Bourbon #fyp

In a way, you could say a TikToker’s first sip of Willett Pot Still is the baptism by firewater that catapults them to the next level of connoisseurship. Maybe they’ll now be ready to get more serious with their bourbon reviewing. Or, maybe they’ll just want to milk the “Pot Still sucks” joke even further — by now it’s started to become a sort of TikTok meme.
Maudlin, for his part, did a follow-up TikTok where he dumps his remaining Pot Still into a fancy crystal decanter, jokingly hoping his wife will now assume it’s the “good stuff,” and thus drink it after running out of her preferred rosé.
If many Pot Still bashers go for the laughs regarding how awful it is compared to the luxe accommodations of the bottle it is housed in, there are a scant few TikTokers who are more earnest in their reviews. Steve Higdon (@60secondbourbonreview) finds Pot Still “pretty mellow” and “easy to drink.” Casey Warr thinks it’s “okay stuff.” While @mattybourbon calls it “not a great bourbon,” though admits it has a nice nose with notes of buttered popcorn, scoring it a decent 5 out of 10.
Those reviews might not elicit laughs or a viral view count, but they’re more accurate in their assessments. Pot Still Reserve is certainly not good — and I would never keep a bottle of it in my house — but it’s not as bad as TikTok would have you believe. Distiller rates it an 88 (out of 100), while Drink Hacker scores it a B+. That feels about right to me. Rumors abound that the spirit has gotten worse over the years, changing from a rye-flavored single-barrel bourbon to a wheated “small batch” blend of undisclosed origins. Whatever the case, it is almost certainly not 100 percent distilled via pot still, which makes the name and bottle design even more amusing.
That’s why the online anger continues to flow, with neophytes thinking they scored the world-famous Willett, seeing the fancy bottle suitable for displaying on the back bar, resting their iPhones facing them in selfie mode, firing up TikTok, taking a big sip, and then realizing (on video) that they just threw 50 bucks down the drain.
And, comical though these may be, maybe Willett should start paying more attention to them.
“Whiskey appeals differently to everyone. So there will be camps that like or dislike a certain whiskey,” says Coleman. “But when a majority of people are consistently giving the same message, the brand should take note and adjust.”
Or maybe not, as there continues to be a seemingly endless stream of fresh-faced TikTokers very excited about their recent Pot Still scores. Like @whiskeymorning, who enters his house clutching two bottles of Pot Still by their necks as he dances to Saweetie’s “My Time.”
We’ll wait for his TikTok review once he finally cracks it. My guess is that it will almost certainly involve coughing.
