he finds a lot to love in all sorts of genres. it's a mix of stuff that he grew up listening to with his parents, stuff that he found on his own from artists he enjoys, and stuff you introduced him to. his music taste is just a mosaic of love for the people around him.

when you give him the aux privileges he's secretly overjoyed. he likes a lot of different genres, rock, metal, indie rock, some punk... but don't ruin his mood by pointing out his music taste is vaguely inspired by bruce's. or make fun of him for listening to sleep token. obviously he likes listening to chill music too— but for a drive? it's gotta be loud and fast. secretly gets happy when you like the songs he plays. the validation gives him a quiet sort of joy.

▸ TIM is pretentious about music, but he doesn't intend to be. he's proud of his taste to the point where he's beyond spotify wrapped and stats.fm. i firmly believe he's made his own software to track the music he's listening to and it's thorough. that being said, he really doesn't mind listening to your music. he likes giving recommendations based off of the songs you play in the car.

tim adores branching out into different genres, and the more obscure it is, the more he likes it. given, he's also into some pretty known and loved bands. car seat headrest. radiohead. slaughter beach, dog. the minute you hand him the aux, he's trying to put you on his favourites. a lot of indie. like... so much indie. and midwest emo... american football WILL be played. he also unfortunately cannot hide his love for the pinkerton album.

when she gets full control, she already has a playlist ready for the drive. it's kind of all over the place, but the vibes are great. you will go from mommy long legs to chappell roan and then to whatever recession pop artist she's into that week. steph is also a big fan of evanescence, kittie, and hole. those in specific are heavily headcanon-y but i feel like she'd appreciate them.

eventually, she gets excited by the prospect of sharing what she usually listens to and it's... something. so here's the thing: she listens to a lot of ambient noise. like, things that people usually sleep to. you once drove around for half an hour listening to nothing but the noises of rustling leaves and chirping birds through your speakers. and she was happy.

she listens to a lot of music where there's not a lot of lyrics most of the time, but tends to listen to some of stephanie's music as well— usually the more mellow side.

HEYYYY it’s me again with another amazing request😏 okay so this time it’s Marc Snuffi and reader okay so I was thinking Marc has been not coming home in time because he’s a coach and reader made food for him because she was excited because it was his birthday but he came late and reader fell asleep on the dinner table and when Marc came home he saw them and felt bad and guilty and he woke up the reader and she felt sad and marc got sad so he prepared a small dinner for both of them and celebrated his birthday and a kiss😏 (I’m really bad at endings you can change it cuz I don’t really like the end)

I see like no snuffy stuff apart from parental figure so im really happy you requested this. Im also having a kind of writer block so just at the right time lol. May our delusion unite. Im also horrible at cooking so more delusion to believe in

To never let go...

A slight humming echoed through the apartment only to be heard by yourself. Your wooden spoon pushed the vegetables around in the frying pan. Fresh fried vegetables, along with some tagliatelle who were cooking in a pot next to you. You swiftly took out plates, dividing the vegetables portion unevenly, more for you beloved husband, he must be hungry after all that work. You also took out the noodles, sprinkling some cheese and sauce over both portions. A bit of salt resting on top of all vegetables pieces and a miso soup on the side. You brought the plate on the table, sitting in front of yours, tapping your nails excitedly against the hard wooden table. The clock ticked, seconds by seconds turned in minutes by minutes.

It had been fifteen minutes and your smile started fading, more tapping your nails in anxiety than excitement. He was usually home by now, you kept your hopes up and waited.

The minute needle on the clock had already did one and half turn, you gritted your teeth in anxiety. It was already eight pm, your eyes started to feel heavy, you layed your head next to your untouched plate. Soft music playing in the background, your mind drifting off to sleep, the second you felt yourself go, the door sound woke you up. You didn't even have the energy to get up, your body and mind too exhausted to do anything, you were wide awake but head layed in your arms and eyes closed. A comfortable silence filling your shared apartment, well that was apart from the soft music in the background.

A plate was placed in front of you, a candle resting in front of it, the last and most important piece to finish this magnificent view, was your husband. Sitting calmly in front of you, face resting in his palm, other one placed over your hand. This was so intimate somehow, you both ate in a peaceful quietness, an intimate dinner, every word shared through your crossing gazes. Smile attached to the both of your lips, they closed like magnets, connecting in a swift but gentle motion. The instant felt like thousand of years, when parted only to be joined in one last peck. An intimated gesture that leaded in one of the sweetest moment.

The slow ended, your arms still didn't leave his neck while his still rested on your hips. Clapping could be heard has everyone was staring at you and Marc....

KAMMMIIIIII that last chapter was AMAZING (also yes the theories on sukuna blackmailing gojo were RIGHT RAAAAAHH)!!!! ok ok ok so here’s the parallels/new info we’ve got so far:

- this is why gojo HATES when the reader calls herself a whore (esp thinking about after she hooks up w sukuna and gojo is driving her and he gets MAD about it)

- this is also why gojo insists on making her hate him bc he knows that’s the whole point, he knows he’s not completely clear of his obsession but he finally understands that what he did was wrong and he can’t let her love him in the way he wants

- YES the stuff abt choso being on there bc sukuna knew she would have feelings for him!!! im still a firm believer that it’s bc sukuna feels bad about what happened w choso and wants to make it up to him in some way but idk if we’ll get to see that through

- ALSO a few sukuna thoughts: sooooo was he being stalked by his ex, the one he ended up hitting? bc he talks about being afraid, and the whole “never let a woman take away what makes you a man” thing could be because he was scared by the situation? idk that just felt too personal

- i also don’t think we ever found out who actually hurt sukuna the night of his party and gave him that bruise (i thought you said at one point that it wasn’t gojo but tbh my brain is a little mushy so that might be wrong), i don’t have many theories on that one just yet but we will be cooking hmmm

- i’ve been SAYIN it but like yes what gojo did was bad. full stop. but! he also really did seem to grow throughout TFL and the idea of him being blackmailed by sukuna makes him much much more sympathetic!!! like he knows you don’t have a job so he comes up w the idea to pay you, he keeps pushing you away bc he knows you shouldn’t love him, ugh just makes my heart hurt for this poor man

- also ….hot take incoming…..but idk that sukuna is as bad as we thought. like rn he’s just trying to protect the reader from what he sees as creepy ass behavior from gojo, presumably he’s had something similar happen, and like yes bro thrives on chaos and wants to hurt us but not just for the purpose of causing pain to a stranger but specifically to punish gojo; idk i’m not here to debate intentions vs actions vs consequences but it’s not like he just did this for laughs he really is trying to make gojo hurt and clearly he has some emotions tied up in this too

- ok rereading that last paragraph idk lmao like bro still (presumably) hits yuji bc gojo also mentions bruises idk idk idk don’t come for me

- something else that stuck out to me that i haven’t been able to stop thinking abt is that in the TFL extra on reader’s wedding night w choso, it’s mentioned that sukuna gives up custody of yuji the same night gojo reveals everything (i think tbh it’s been a min since i read it), but like….why? (i think) that extra was canon and it almost feels like too much of a coincidence but maybe it just is ????? someone else who has better thoughts than i do please share hahahahaha

1. Yes! Sukuna was the first and only person Gojo’s ever heard call her such a thing so when the term is later used by the reader herself, it triggers him all over again :)

2. Yes yes yes yes!! This is exactly why Gojo kept telling her that love between them is “forbidden” and why he’d compare it to being a “crime”. You can also see how as tfl goes on, his obsession returns due to him being so close with the reader and finally experiencing her just as he’d always longed to.

3. Mhm! Sukuna is quite the mastermind :3

4. This Sukuna thought is on the right track to say the very least & avoid further spoilers! ^.^

5. Gojo was not the person to hit Sukuna that time!

6. YES I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. I know he’s bad terrible etc BUT, Gojo does do exactly as he always said he would & changes for the reader to become deserving of her whilst also telling her she cannot be with him… I’d also like to point out how a lot of Gojo girlies said they would’ve picked him right then and there after his confessions but I wonder how they feel now knowing that Gojo would’ve almost never told them about his past actions 🤔

7. Sukuna is… Well, let me say this, there are no true villains nor hero’s in tfl or ftl. No one is completely good & no one is completely bad, both stories are just messy tales of humans figuring life out.

8. Well, Gojo did mention bruises but that is before tfl takes place so we don’t know when exactly Sukuna’s domestic violence stops…

9. Think about two things here— One, Sukuna mentions that the reader deserves some form of happiness out of her, a feeling that could’ve doubled after he experienced her for himself. Two, it’s theorized that Sukuna still wants to make things up to Choso. Similar to Gojo, Sukuna cannot undo what he’s done in the past but he can try to make amends. I hope that makes sense & helps your thoughts ^.^

For some reason, AO3 won't let me comment, but I had to say this about your Valeria fanfic, you don't have to respond! You're such an amazing writer, this has been so disturbing, you made it feel like a true horror and romance story where it's so easy to sometimes forget the evil in favor of all the loving. It feels unique in its kind and that's something I deeply appreciate, I'm genuinely terrified of something awful happening in chapter 5, but I'm also just excited to see anything coming, thank you for sharing it!

I love when people say the fic is disturbing and loving or valeria is disturbing and loving because its my intention all the way through. Sure, this far in the timeline, maybe about a year to two years total (my guestimate theres no real set time between stuff. some stuff is immediate (some chapters flow into one another), sometimes theres time skips in chapters or betweeen chapters) its definitely love on both ends, but like the idkhow song, WHAT LOVE?

if there’s one thing that jessie values it’s her appearance, flying into a rage if her face or hair are even the slightest bit damaged during a mission, and that goes tenfold when it comes to you — she’s constantly trying to look her best and can spend hours perfecting her look before the two of you go out on a date (stressing over her outfit and accessories, doing and redoing her makeup because it wasn’t symmetrical enough, and taking her time to style her hair perfectly) even if it’s something casual like a night spend indoors or a walk around the park, because she can’t imagine not looking her best for you (yes, even if you tell her that she’s beautiful regardless of what she wears as she does take pride in her appearance beyond just your opinion of it)

and, speaking of clothing and accessories, she will ‘borrow’ your things whenever she stays over at your home: using your toiletries to smell like you, borrowing your shirts to sleep in, wearing your hoodies and jumpers out and about, etc. — and you’re also the only person who she’s alright with sharing some of her own items (your stuff is hers and most of her stuff is still hers, she’ll let you know what you can borrow if you ask)

she has an extremely short temper and has a terrifying type of anger about her that is sure to make even those closest to her ready to run and hide — this can make arguments and disagreements between the two of you extremely volatile unless you’re able to appeal to her more vain side and sandwich your concerns between compliments to placate you, but it also means that whenever she’s in a jealous or protective mood that the issue usually sorts itself out before she needs to do anything drastic (aka the offending party runs away as to avoid her wrath)

on a related note: when jessie gets jealous she becomes extremely confrontational with the offending party and extremely clingy with you — externally she’s on the offensive and terrifyingly angry, but internally she’s afraid of you leaving her for someone ‘better’ which leads to her fury worsening (she has a lot of issues stemming from her childhood)

she loves attention and popularity, and at times this can lead to her brushing you off when she’s caught up in whatever wave of positivity she’s in the middle of, but she never goes as far as undermining your relationship — she’s actually fiercely loyal to you and will turn her nose up at anyone who tries to ask her out (she may hate rejection herself but she’s not above doing it to someone else; she is a taken woman, after all)

domesticity really suits jessie and when she’s staying with you between missions for team rocket she seems so very at home doing simple couple things with you: going out on random dates, running errands (and getting side tracked because she’s a shopaholic), doing chores like cleaning and laundry, cooking together, eating meals together, watching whatever crap is on the television whilst cuddled up on the settee, using her knack for sewing to repair any clothes/items that were damaged on her person during missions or at home when she was away, etc. — moments like this are the calmest you’ll ever see your girlfriend and her team mates (who will occasionally stay with you if they can’t find alternate accommodation) also quickly picked up on this and will tease her for becoming your ‘house wife’ (which inevitably causes her temper to return and an argument to start)

if you have any snake like pokemon then you can guarantee that jessie will be making every excuse to spend time with them: training, playing, lounging, and so on — and the same goes for any poison types (bonus points if you have an ekans of your own for hers to play with, or any dratinis or smoochums because she just really loves them)

as far as sleeping arrangements go, she loves being curled up on her side with her face buried in your chest as you wrap your arms around her — it makes her feel loved, safe, and warm, and she never sleeps quite as soundly when she’s away from you

and sure! not too much but that one is from the laws 11 sequel, currently titled laws 12 bc im very creative. im being very mean to zoro as per usual. its still a long ways off so idk when itll be done. currently around 4 chapters maybe depending how i split it up. i shared my progess on the word count before so. itll be a long one and i want to have more of it finished before i start posting.

a more original plot than laws 11, less based on canon and unfortunately that means i have to get more into logistics ajgkh who would have thought that heists require planning.

hi hi! a message from faire

before anything, this is nothing bad lol. me and the blog are here to stay, even if i stop writing. in fact, i'm doing quite the opposite!

since i am unfortunately (involuntarily) apart of the systemic rat race, i have to be a human being (derogatory) at work most days and it can be exhausting to my brain, which i need for writing. i always pull so much out of myself with every story that i write, but all of the cards in my hand begin to weigh again and i'm like "damn, my outlet is gone".

i guess taking a bit of a step back from my stories also allows me to really conceptualize my ideas; from refining them to changing them completely, i try not to rush anything, which is another reason for large gaps between my works. i feel like im always one-upping myself and always want to put out the best, most cohesive works for y'all (,:

gratefully, i have found some drive within myself to work on crafting some stories for you all here and i'm very excited for what i have to bring to the table.

today, i've been working on safety net part six because omgggggggg it's getting heated. this part is...something 😃 (not saying much because this one will be locked up tight until release lol)

secondly, i've got two other fnaf AUs in the pipeline:

I'm glad your weekend wasn’t horrible! Though please take some time to recharge! While nothing too bad may have happened, it can still be a lot of being around people! Cleaning is oddly relaxing for me too lol. What are you most excited to cook on your list of recipes?

I used to LOVE project runway when i was younger! Tbh I think I just loved any show that involved creating something like baking,cooking, and even home renovation stuff lol But ngl reality tv shows about dating/love stuff  is something that I can’t get into lol But I can see how you are more drawn towards scripted stuff though and I get it!

Kids are crazy! Sometimes it is wild how they cannot simply be kind or even understanding of others. I didn’t personally suffer from bullying but that doesn’t mean literally interacting with kids my age was easy. Anyways I'm sure giving them reminders is helping even if they may not appreciate it at the moment! Though I get that it can be so annoying because you're kind and it comes naturally to you!

I LOVE when people give context or just share details lol im the same way too! Once I get on a topic I feel strongly for and/or once I'm comfortable with someone I YAP AWAY! My dumb son invited his friend over to stay with us for a couple days so now I'm hiding in my room. I have to pretend to be social and shit and it's the worst. I've barely recovered from my fam. I just want to be quiet and alone by myself 😭😭 No but tbh it's fine. I'm just dramatic. Cleaning was REALLY good actually. I've been trying to do some much needed stuff (like washing walls and baseboards. Very adult stuff lol) Maybe I'll do some more organizing and shit while his friend is here so I can hide and whatnot.

I made this ravioli dish that was really good. It was sort of alfredo-y and had spinach and sundried tomatoes. Honestly? I'm most excited to make these roasted veggies lol. Potatoes, carrots, zucchini hehehe

I liked the first few seasons of project runway but the premise got away from me (and the writers I think). I wish I got more into cooking shows. I do have a serious soft spot for Cake Boss tho 😂

I have this one student who said to me "she never gives up on me" and it honestly kind of melted my heart. She's a TOUGH kid. Like I'm lowkey afraid of her 😭😭 I'm glad she likes me because she's kinda cuckoo 🤣🤣 She has these massive angry blowups, not necessarily her fault because of mental health and undiagnosed ADHD but she doesn't always make the best decisions either. For some reason she listens to me. So I keep trying to help her even though she makes me INSANE. But the point of that was she's a mean girl tbh she struggles to stay out of drama (sometimes not her fault, but many times it is) anyway. She's a lot, can't wait for her to graduate.

An inner child grudge is like no other. I love it tbh. I have a grudge. My mom told me at like age 6 we hate Bank of America and I refuse to set foot in there lol so I totally get disliking the brand.

I can't say I'm surprised, we do send each other lengthy messages 😭 it would be a TIME if we met in person hahahahahaha we wouldn't stop talking for ages. It's CRAZY how there are no filler episodes and the seasons are SO short. So so so crazy.

OMG T W E L V E HOURS of zoom a week. That's so so long. I hope they give breaks. Honestly, this is going to sound super weird, but I think it's pretty cool that you didn't listen to your therapist about this. It's fairly low-stake and it's a lot but you have really good intentions of getting your classes done on time so you can be DONE and graduate. One of the things I'm worried about starting therapy is that I'll want to do it perfectly and I'll want my therapist to think I'm the best lol (can you tell I need it?) so I feel like I would be obligated to do EVERYTHING she tells me to (I want a she because I hate men most of the time lol) and I would overwhelm myself with that if that makes sense. So it's refreshing to know you don't have to listen to her; at least in this instant. Hopefully that all makes sense

One more week of summer school. They're going well. I'm worried some kids aren't going to pass. We offer some classes online and I'm concerned they aren't going to finish/pass. Which is so irritating. Because like, why show up for a month if you're not going to pass? I know there's deeper issues and more to it, but still. We make it PRETTY easy to pass...

CSS Stuff I’m Excited After the Last CSSWG Meeting

From June 11–13, the CSS Working Group (CSSWG) held its second face-to-face meeting of the year in Coruña, Spain, with a long agenda of new features and improvements coming to language. If 2023 brought us incredible advances like out-of-the-box nesting, container and style queries, or the has: selector, then 2024 is going to be even more packed with even more ground-breaking additions. Whether a new feature like inline conditionals is just starting or long-term projects are wrapping up, 2024 is already filled with exciting developments — and we’re still in July!

I wanted to share what I think are some of the most interesting and significant features coming to CSS that were examined in the meeting. However, I don’t want you to take the following as an exact recap of the discussions. Instead, I want to bring up the broader topics coming to CSS that had a spotlight at the last meeting. In reality, the features examined have been cooking up for even years and the discussions are geared towards specific cases and new enhancements, rather than defining a whole specification; a work that would be impossible in one meeting.

Feature 1: What if we get if()?

Since CSS custom properties gained reliable support around 2016, there have been many attempts to apply certain styles depending on a custom property value without, of course, appealing to JavaScript. One of the earliest workarounds for conditional styles was posted by Roman Komarov back in 2016 in “Conditions for CSS Variables”. From there, many other hacks have been documented for making conditional declarations in CSS (including this extremely clever one by Ana Tudor here on CSS-Tricks). In fact, you can find a full list that discusses and compares those workarounds by CSSWG member Lea Verou in her recent article, “Inline conditionals in CSS, now?”.

What’s for sure is that the community has craved a conditional way to apply styles using custom properties. Nowadays, we have a specification for Style Queries that’s capable of the task, but they come with limitations not related to browser support. The biggest of those limitations? We can’t directly style the container that’s queried, so we need some sort of wrapper element around that wrapper in HTML.

What if() might look like

On the CSSWG side, there have been discussions about adding an if() function as far back as 2018. It was June 13 of this year — yes, six years later — that the CSSWG resolved to begin working on if() for CSS. As good as it may look, don’t expect to see if() in a browser in at least two years! (That’s Lea’s unofficial estimate.) We’ll likely need to wait even longer for enough browser support to begin using it reliably in production. The spec draft is only barely getting started and many things have to pass a test first. For context, the CSS variables working draft began in 2012 and only received wide browser support in 2016.

Syntax-wise, if() is probably going to borrow the ternary operator from JavaScript and other programming languages, structured like this:

if(a ? b : c)

…where a is the custom property we are checking and b are c are the possible conditional return values. To check for styles, an inline style(--my-property: value) would be used.

.forecast background-color: if(style(--weather: clouds) ? var(--clouds-color): var(--default-color));

Even if ? isn’t used in CSS and : has a different meaning everywhere else, I think this syntax is the one most people are familiar with, not to mention it also allows seamless conditional chaining.

.forecast background-color: if( style(--weather: clouds) ? var(--clouds-color): style(--weather: sunny) ? var(--sunny-color); style( --weather: rain) ? var(--rain-color): var(--default-color) );

Future if() improvements

Although these probably won’t make it in the initial release, it’s interesting to see how if() might change between now and sometime further in the future:

Support for other inline conditionals. We are supposed to check for custom properties using the style() query, but we may as well check for media features with an inline media() query or if a user agent supports a specific property with an inline support().

.my-element width: if(media(width > 1200px) ? var(--size-l): var(--size-m));

Using conditional inside other CSS functions. In future drafts, we may use ternaries inside other functions without having to wrap them around if(), e.g. just as we can make calculations without calc() if we are inside a clamp() or round() function.

Feature 2: Cross-document view transitions

Last year, the View Transition API gave us the power to create seamless transitions when navigating between web pages and states. No components or frameworks, no animation libraries — just vanilla HTML and CSS with a light sprinkle of JavaScript. The first implementation of View Transitions was baked into browsers a while back, but it was based on an experimental function defined by Chrome and was limited to transitions between two states (single-page view transitions) without support for transitioning between different pages (i.e., multi-page view transitions), which is what most of us developers are clamoring for. The possibilities for mimicking the behavior of native apps are exciting!

That’s why the CSS View Transitions Module Level 2 is so amazing and why it’s my favorite of all the CSS additions we’re covering in this article. Yes, the feature brings out-of-the-box seamless transitions between pages, but the real deal is it removes the need for a framework to achieve it. Instead of using a library — say React + some routing library — we can backtrack into plain CSS and JavaScript.

Of course, there are levels of complexity where the View Transition API may fall short, but it’s great for countless cases where we just want page transitions without the performance cost of dropping in a framework.

Opting into view transitions

View transitions are triggered when we navigate between two pages from the same-origin. In this context, navigation might be clicking a link, submitting a form, or going back and forth with browser buttons. By contrast, something like using a search bar between same-origin pages won’t trigger a page transition.

Both pages — the one we’re navigating away from and the one we’re navigating to — need to opt into the transition using the @view-transition at-rule and setting the navigation property to auto

When both pages opt into a transition, the browser takes a “snapshot” of both pages and smoothly fades the “before” page into the “after” page.

Transitioning between “snapshots”

In that video, you can see how the old page fades into the new page, and it works thanks to an entire tree of new pseudo-elements that persist through the transition and use CSS animations to produce the effect. The browser will group snapshots of elements with a unique view-transition-name property that sets a unique identifier on the transition that we can reference, and which is captured in the ::view-transition pseudo-element holding all of the transitions on the page.

You can think of ::view-transition as the :root element for all page transitions, grouping all of the parts of a view transition on the same default animation.

Notice that each transition lives in a ::view-transition-group that holds a ::view-transition-image-pair that, in turn, consists of the “old” and “new” page snapshots. We can have as many groups in there as we want, and they all contain an image pair with both snapshots.

Quick example: let’s use the ::view-transition “root” as a parameter to select all of the transitions on the page and create a sliding animation between the old and new snapshots.

If we navigate between pages, the entire old page slides out to the left while the entire new page slides in from the right. But we may want to prevent some elements on the page from participating in the transition, where they persist between pages while everything else moves from the “old” snapshot to the “new” one.

That’s where the view-transition-name property is key because we can take snapshots of certain elements and put them in their own ::view-transition-group apart from everything else so that it is treated individually.

You can find a live demo of it on GitHub. Just note that browser support is limited to Chromium browsers (i.e., Chrome, Edge, Opera) at the time I’m writing this.

There are many things we can look forward to with cross-document view transitions. For example, If we have several elements with a different view-transition-name, we could give them a shared view-transition-class to style their animations in one place — or even customize the view transitions further with JavaScript to check from which URL the page is transitioning and animate accordingly.

Feature 3: Anchor Positioning

Positioning an element relative to another element in CSS seems like one of those no-brainer, straightforward things, but in reality requires mingling with inset properties (top, bottom, left, right) based on a series of magic numbers to get things just right. For example, getting a little tooltip that pops in at the left of an element when hovered might look something like this in HTML:

…and in CSS with current approaches:

Having to change the element’s positioning and inset values isn’t the end of the world, but it sure feels like there should be an easier way. Besides, the tooltip in that last example is extremely fragile; if the screen is too small or our element is too far to the left, then the tooltip will hide or overflow beyond the edge of the screen.

CSS Anchor Positioning is yet another new feature that was discussed in the CSSWG meetings and it promises to make this sort of thing much, much easier.

Creating an anchor

The basic idea is that we establish two elements:

one that acts as an anchor, and

one that is a “target” anchored to that element.

This way, we have a more declarative way to associate one element and position it relative to the anchored element.

To begin we need to create our anchor element using a new anchor-name property.

Changing our markup a little:

We give it a unique dashed-indent as its value (just like a custom property):

.anchor anchor-name: --tooltip;

Then we relate the .tooltip to the .anchor using the position-anchor property with either fixed or absolute positioning.

.toolip position: fixed; position-anchor: --tooltip;

The .tooltip is currently positioned on top of the .anchor, but we ought to move it somewhere else to prevent that. The easiest way to move the .tooltip is using a new inset-area property. Let’s imagine that the .anchor is placed in the middle of a 3×3 grid and we can position the tooltip inside the grid by assigning it a row and column.

The inset-area property takes two values for the .tooltip‘s in a specific row and column on the grid. It counts with physical values, like left, right, top and bottom, as well logical values depending on the user’s writing mode, like start and end, in addition to a center shared value. It also accepts values referencing x- and y-coordinates, like x-start and y-end. All these value types are ways of representing a space on the 3×3 grid.

For example, if we want the .tooltip to be positioned relative to the top-right edge of the anchor, we can set the inset-area property like this:

.toolip /* physical values */ inset-area: top right; /* logical values */ inset-area: start end; /* mix-n-match values! */ inset-area: top end;

Lastly, if we want our tooltip to span across two regions of the grid, we can use a span- prefix. For example, span-top will place the .tooltip in the grid’s top and center regions. If instead we want to span across an entire direction, we can use the span-all value.

One of the problems with our anchor-less example is that the tooltip can overflow outside the screen. We can solve this using another new property, this time called position-try-options, in combination with a new inset-area() function.

(Yes, there is inset-area the property and inset-area() the function. That’s one we’ll have to commit to memory!)

The position-try-options property accepts a comma-separated list of fallback positions for the .tooltip when it overflows outside the screen. We can provide a list of inset-area() functions, each holding the same values that the inset-area property would. Now, each time the tooltip goes out off-screen, the next declared position is “tried”, and if that position causes an overflow, the next declared position is tried, and so on.

.toolip inset-area: top left; position-try-options: inset-area(top), inset-area(top right);

This is a pretty wild concept that will take some time to grok. CSSWG member Miriam Suzanne sat down to discuss and tinker with anchor positioning with James Stuckey Weber in a video that’s well worth watching.

There are still many aspects to anchor positioning we aren’t covering here for brevity, notably the new anchor() function and @try-position at-rule. The anchor() function returns the computed position of the edge of an anchor, which provides more control over a tooltip’s inset properties. The @try-position at-rule is for defining custom positions to set on the position-try-options property.

My hunch is that using inset-area will be plenty robust for the vast majority of use cases.

The CSSWG is a collective effort

Earlier I said that this article wouldn’t be an exact retelling of the discussions that took place at the CSSWG meetings, but rather a broad representation of new specs coming to CSS that, due to their novelty, were bound to come up in those meetings. There are even some features that we simply hadn’t the time to review in this roundup that are still subject to debate (cough, masonry).

One thing is for sure: specs aren’t made in some vacuum over one or two meetings; it takes the joined effort of tens of amazing authors, developers, and user agents to bring to life what we use every day in our CSS work — not to mention the things we will use in the future.

I also had the opportunity to talk with some amazing developers from the CSSWG, and I found it interesting what their biggest takeaways were from the meetings. You might expect if() is at the top of their lists since that’s what is buzzing in socials. But CSSWG member Emilio Cobos told me, for example, that the letter-spacing property is essentially flawed and there isn’t a simple solution for fixing it that’s copasetic with how letter-spacing is currently defined by CSS and used in browsers. That includes the fact that converting normal properties into shorthand properties can be dangerous to a codebase.

Every tiny detail we might think of as trivial is carefully analyzed for the sake of the web and for the love of it. And, like I mentioned earlier, this stuff is not happening in a closed vacuum. If you’re at all interested in the future of CSS — whether that simply keeping up with it or getting actively involved — then consider any of the following resources.

you had a really sheepish smile on your face like you were ready to embarrass him and when you said, “hey i noticed you staring,” on god he wanted to die.

samu’s mouth is moving but his brain isn’t really working he just likes to thank god that he said yes and didn’t say anything else 

this time, you wish him luck with a kiss on the cheek and he really hates how his entire body is just heating up right now so on the outside it looks like he’s not enjoying this in the least, but trust, his heart says others

that was the most nervous you’ve ever been but he doesn’t need to know that 

on the bus ride back he invites you to sit next to him in the back, and you’re both a little shy about it all but you make conversation and somehow it ends up with him telling you he loves to cook, which leads to the promise that he’ll cook for you one day

it’s a very sweet conversation where you’re both really excited but you’re also a little nervous about it all

again, briefly: if we’re going with you being a wing spiker like him, then training with samu is so fun. he loves to toss the balls up higher and higher knowing you can’t reach them, until one day you shock him and the ball goes smack on the other side of the court and damn he just fell in love all over again.

tsumu practices with you two sometimes and nine times out of ten he’ll make samu think he’s tossing to him then toss to you instead.

with suna, you two briefly knew each other

you shared class with him, and sat quite near him so you were like sort of acquainted with each other. i feel like suna’s not too big on speaking with strangers not because he’s introverted but because he just doesn’t wanna waste his time

he does speak to you from time to time though, mainly just to ask about class or homework or exams 

he didn’t know you were on the girl’s volleyball team though, so when you walked onto the bus, and he spotted you, he was really confused. when you spotted him back and waved at him with a bright smile his brain went uh oh

and then you walked closer to where he sat and his brain went UH OH

and then you asked to sit next to him because you’re all the girls are scattered everywhere and aside from them he’s the only one you know here so he just shrugs and goes yeah sure 

his brain is going uhohuhohuhoh repeatedly though he’s just exceptionally good at not showing it 

you don’t really talk as everyone settles down, each of you is busy looking down at your phones, but when the bus starts moving, suna takes out his headphones and

when you take out your phone and open instagram/snapchat and start messing with the filters, taking snaps of him and making faces with him, and he gets to hear and feel your little laughs he realizes yeah, maybe he does have a tiny crush on you

you skip away from him after stepping off the bus with a yell of good luck. he makes time after his game to go watch yours and he is thoroughly impressed by your skill. decides maybe it is not as minuscule as he thought.

the boys are on the bus before the girls, so when you walk in, he waves you over and points at his headphones, which makes you laugh a little and rush over to him. this time, he doesn’t wait for the bus to start moving before he hands you one earbud, and just like before, your head rests on his shoulder throughout 

middle of the ride, he opens the notes app, and types, ‘you’re really cute,’ while showing you the screen 

you take the phone from him and type back, ‘you’re really pretty.’ 

and then a conversation carries like this until he just straight up goes, ‘wanna go out with me?’ 

this time, you don’t take the phone from him. instead, you sit up a little, press a kiss to his cheek and whisper, “yes.” 

it only shocked him a little a lot

as soon as you’d said that, he relaxes a bit, and as you’re going to rest your head on his shoulder, he brings an arm around you, hugging you closer to him i am going to Scream

briefly: please, imagine just how encouraging it is for suna to see you in the stands at any of his games like it just gives him that necessary boost  and whenever he wins he just cups your face and kisses you so passionately yet serenely and there’s that small smile hidden in the kiss only you can feel and tell of

or just imagine you and suna relaxing after a long day of practice in a bath together or you completely drained snuggled in bed as you lazily and sleepily pillow talk 

or oh my god, suna coming before a game and helping you do your hair in a braid or anything that will keep it out of your face because he has a little sister and he’s just so good at it and all the girls are fawning over how he’s sitting on the bench with you kneeling between his legs and he’s just working diligently at your hair and once he’s done he just gives your head a little pat before leaning over and kissing your cheek like “all done babe good luck” 

or suna watching smugly as you absolutely destroy your opponents or if you ever play with the boys how you never go easy on them and he just

like in my baby sister hcs, you’re still the most important thing to him period

the two of you got picked up by dazai and kunikida when he was 18 (obviously) and when you were 12

for a 12 year old, you were a bit small bc of malnourishment (which makes atsushi feel so bad) so both dazai and kunikida thought you were a bit younger than you actually were

they assumed you were about 9-10ish

you and atsushi both share a favorite food !! chazuke :)

so when kunikida treated the two of you, he made sure you got more bowls bc like i mentioned above, he feels really bad that you were malnourished and under weight

(don’t bring this up but kunikida felt bad too hehe)

when dazai went with your brother to the warehouse, you were with kunikida

imagine the surprise of the other ada members when kunikida came in with a little girl dressed in rags that popped out from behind him

kenji was the one who vocalized his thoughts

when you found out your brother was a tiger, you were a bit concerned but you were actually kind of excited

also tries to not talk abt suicide in front of you especially if it’s just the two of you alone

he knows that you mean the world to his pupil and that said pupil would probably hate him for putting suicide inside your brain

he teaches you random but useful things like how to pick a lock, how to steal kunikida’s notebook if you’re looking for some information, how to sweet talk your way out of things, etc.

is also the one to tell you that if you ever get a significant other to introduce them to the agency first

he always wants all of your gossip; some of them work pretty well for blackmail

Depending on how you celebrate Christmas and how you open presents,

If you open presents in the evening, he'll be excited all day long

Hes very excited for you to see what he got you

If you open presents in the morning, then he'd be up early and ready to open presents

And for about 10 minutes he's debating if he should wake you up or if he should wait and let you sleep

Once you both are up he's pulling you with him

Always with a big smile on his face

Hes more excited for you to open your presents than for him opening his own

Since he's been up for a while already, he put some cookies on the table, together with some christmas movies and some hot chocolate/coffee/tea

Mistuya - romantic dinner

Since mitsuya cares a lot about his friends and family, he would always celebrate Christmas together with all of them

but sometimes he wants some alone time with you

So you guys went to mikeys to celebrate together and then excused yourselves, going back to your shared home

Mitsuya would hold your hand as you talked about mikey and draken jokingly bickering a few minutes ago and other funny things that happened

He'd smile to himself while listening to you, he's genuinely happy that you grew so close to his family

It means a lot to him

Once home, he'd have some of the dinner pre-cooked, so only a few things had to be done

You guys would cook together with music playing in the back, probably something slow and calm

The dinner itself was quite romantic, with candles, flowers and dimmed lights 

I'm 10/10 convinced that he'd hold your hand across the table while looking you in the eyes as you both talk about different things

You would give each other little gifts after the dinner

Something small but meaningful

And for the end of the evening, mitsuya would put on a slow song and lead you with him, holding you against his chest

would bundle u up in his hoodies as a toddler and there's a few pics of u absolutely SWIMMING in them with the hood all the way over ur face pretending to be the grim reaper. he'd never been so proud

an eloquent dad, but still has goofy dadlike tendencies. he may be the picture of a dark academia dilf with his slacks and button ups sipping coffee in the morning over a manuscript, but he'll still make the jokes. calls u things like little one and taught u to play piano

he got u ur own little bookshelf for all ur baby books and he'd read to you every single night without fail. he'd make up stories too and u would help and make a collab tho it often got u more excited than relaxed for bed but it was worth it!!! when u were grown up u helped him compile the short stories u made up together and published it. he'd also share with u poems he wrote for you and about you over the years, lots of them to do with the wonder of watching a whole tiny person grow into a big person

would always take u on nature walks and play at the beach!!! u would find shells and rocks to give to him and he'd always look like u just handed him pure gold

u made a pact that u would sit still for him while he did ur hair if u could braid his hair in turn. u both looked very stylish

cool dad!!! fun dad!!!! watches anime with u when u get into it and is forever ur player 2. if u had a skateboard or a scooter he'd always show u up by pulling off sick tricks and it became a friendly rivalry. taught u to stick it to the man at a very early age. teaches u to play guitar and took u to ur first rock concert when u were like 8

there are baby photos of u wearing sunglasses that cover half ur face and when asked about it he'd say 'u were just a rly cool baby!!!!' in some of them he's wearing matching sunglasses and carrying u in one of those front baby pouches. he'd also always sing to you as a baby and still does it idly sometimes and has written songs for u!!!!

ur #1 hypeman. praises u for everything and always makes sure u know how cool u are just for existing. he loses his mind at ur grade school talent show and at ur graduation he's there holding up his phone and crying like FUCK IT UP KENNETH!!!!! 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️

has the most potent typical dad energy. the socks with sandals, the jokes, the ac/dc, the funny hobby projects, the rivalry with other pta parents, all of it. calls u squirt and kiddo and the kind to ruffle ur hair. always gives u piggy back rides even as u get older, says it helps him stay in shape. when u were little you'd always bap ur baby hands against his stubble cause heehee funny scratchy face

u loved when he was in charge of dinner growing up cause it was often takeout pizza/burgers. 'hey im making a pot of kraft dinner should i double it for u' kind of guy, adds cut up hot dogs and after ur other parent voices a need for nutrition adds frozen veggies too. VERY good at cooking all kinds of eggs tho, would always feed u eggs from his own chickens and would accept nothing less!!!

teaches u a lot about chickens and some of ur fave memories with him are in the coop or chillin in a field in spring with him and the new chicks. some other faves include the regular tea parties with him and cousin jas, and even as u both get older u all sit down and have tea together sometimes and occasionally break out one of the old barbie movies for funsies

u learned how to say fuck from him when u were 3 and he died laughing. if called and told that u got into a fight at school would reply with 'did they win'

refuses to let u leave the house without eating something first and would often get up early to make u a big breakfast before school (it's the most important meal of the day!!!!). yes it's ok if ur late ur english teacher can wait until you've had ur veggies. when u were a baby his standard of keeping u fed was 'if i had to change less than five diapers a day it wasn't enough'. encourages taking a snack and water everywhere

as u got older u realized how hardworking he is so u make sure he knows how much u love and appreciate him, goes all out for his bday and father's day like how he goes all out for u every day and it makes him cry. he cries at ur first birthday and ur graduation too, cried when u got him a #1 DAD mug specifically for his morning coffee, he just cries a lot and it's very endearing, dad taught u it's okay to be emotional. u also gift him funky socks to wear at work and he goes bananas for them

he taught u how to assemble model planes and u would sit with him while he tuned his old radio, u liked the bwee bwee sounds. he would play jazz and swing and dance with u standing on his feet. when u were little u liked to play with his moustache and occasionally he would fall asleep while watching u but the most u ever did was add a goatee to the stache with washable marker which he thought was pretty funny

strong dad!!! jock dad!!!!! would flex and let u hang off his bicep, play wrestle (u would always win), sit u on his shoulders and run around making airplane noises, play sportsball in the yard and would come up with fun challenges for u if u got bored of catch. pretty much the master of keeping ur baby self entertained and was always there to tuck u in for a nap when u got tired out

makes an extra protein shake for u every morning and loads of scrambled eggs, will also sneak u a cookie tho

he's always super encouraging and positive and enthusiastic about everything u do which u pick up fast. u go to his games and even if sports turns out not to be ur thing the fact that ur there rooting for him makes him put in 1000% effort, calls u his good luck charm!!!! he will also throw u over his shoulders and use u for weightlifting while u shout encouragement directly into his ear. this continues until ur grown up (and sometimes even then so he can flex even as an 'old man')

gets really really worried about you whenever ur sick or get hurt and will lose sleep over it but stays upbeat for ur sake. he will cuddle u tho. sometimes you'll ask for stories about ur grandma and he'll tell u and it's so nice to him to talk about his mother and smile instead of being sad, you help him heal because it's so wonderful to think of her as a grandmother and how proud she'd be. he plays her music box for u to help u sleep when ur little and it still makes u feel sleepy and safe when ur older
