as a former escape room host i highly recommend doing an escape room as a first date. its a great way to learn how ppl react under pressure and how well they collaborate with you right off the bat. also more than once ive seen people enter an escape room as a couple and exit broken up LOL its a fantastic litmus test

friend, i get where youre coming from entirely. im writing some of the more popular fics in my fandom and while i genuinely love how many people message me or comment about how much it means to them, it doesnt really have the community experience of art youre talking about that's so satisfying

but i embroider also, and i cook, and i wear loud outfits, and i often take pictures of all that too, but its art that i rarely end up posting online. its stuff i do for fun that i find rewarding to do, but i embroider on my work breaks and tend to have coworkers compliment me on being "so good" at it (im not lol). i share pictures of what i cook with the group chat, who share pics of what they cook too, and we swap recipes. i get a lot of weird looks when im out and about all dressed up, but i also get a lot of people who come ask me about what im wearing

i have friends over to "stitch and bitch" (mostly bitch, i am very distractible) and we swap supplies and show off what were working on and talk about plans for our next projects, and they keep an eye out for things i need for xyz project while shopping for supplies and i do the same for them

i have a lot of food allergies so i have to cook a lot of my food from scratch, and i have friends with similar issues, so well get together and do afternoons where we batch cook like six, seven dishes to freeze portions to take some of the burden of cooking constantly off each other

im a member of my local community for one of the niche fashions I wear, and i have a tub of cast offs from my wardrobe I collect over the year that i bring to my areas local goth clothing swap every summer. ive had several jobs where the morning routine involved coworkers coming to my desk or office to see my outfit of the day, and ive had several people on bus routes i take or shops i regularly go to tell me theyre always excited to see me because i bring a smile to their face with the weird nonsense im wearing

a local bookstore where im at hosts bring your own project craft nights as well as "classes" on making absurd, goofy art out of like, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. there's been an uptick of what ive been calling guerilla art markets where one of my local artists makes a post about how theyre going to be at x park on this day with a blanket and merch, spread the word and bring your own set up. one of my theatre gay friends mentioned missing performing and i told them id kill for a shitty theatre troup that did no budget performance pop ups in parks. i follow this insta page that does nothing but post flyers for local underground punk shows and several instas for local art markets and a good handful of burlesque dancers and drag performers and djs. i have signed up to get emails from the bulk of local music venues and i open them for anything interesting coming thru on tour

and i go to things. even if i dont have a ton of money, if i have the time, i go, and i talk to people, i take cards, i buy stuff i like when i can, i ask about their upcoming shows. i tell my friends about them, and the fun things hosted at my local bookstores. i have friends who always have sticker slaps in their pockets for local bands or small artists. like half of my tshirts are from tiny artists, local or not, and if you ask me on the street about it i will talk your ear off for several minutes about the artist and give you your choice of their socials. same with the patches and pins on my vest

art is very much a community and you are so right op that the age of the internet has replaced a ton of it with faceless "engagement" stats and we should be so so angry

so: go find your local community. if it doesnt exist, make it. host something, even just in your living room with a couple of friends

many things about the chronicles of Narnia made me irrevocably insane at the small age of six years old but one of the big ones was the bit in prince Caspian where caspian blows susan's horn to try and summon help and it summons the pevensie kids like. that's crazy ok. that's insane. imagine at 12 years old you're given a horn thats purpose is basically summoning divine intervention & then years later someone blows it and summons YOU . I'm crazy !
