Honestly, that isn't too much difference from my own headcanons about the happy hotel - I think the redemption focus is new, but the hotel was operated prior as a sort of... crash/safe house for sinners; ostensibly on extermination day, but Charlie never actually... asked anyone to leave afterwards.

I think Vaggie is probably the reason Charlie started believing in the idea of redemption at all - Charlie knows sinners, knows that they're... an acquired taste (her words), but here's this (supposed) sinner who is kind and polite and legitimately grateful and trying to help Charlie even when still injured - she's still rough around the edges, short-tempered and tends to go to violence as her first solution, but! Clearly she isn't as bad/sinful as she was at one point, showing that change is possible! Possibly even changing enough to... not be in Hell, anymore? Theoretically? It's worth a shot; Charlie's people can't die to the extermination if they aren't in Hell when it happens!

(Also, more fitting with your own: Valentino very much seems like the type who would... not forget, he doesn't forget that Angel doesn't live in the studio anymore, but like... some days are worse? He's more aware of it? Like... Angel can ignore him, now. And on days when that happens, when Angel just completely ices him out and doesn't respond to any texts or pick up the phone calls, Valentino gets angry about it and things like episode 2 happens.)

@royalvelvette i like to think the happy hotel had been running for years and occasionally demons would stay but more to use it as an actual hotel and would leave before ever attempting to redeem themselves. angel dust started staying there with intent to leave.....but ended up liking charlie too much and stayed. plus he didn't have to pay, and he was safe from valentino as long as he was there.

as depicted in my art, he kept up his mobster persona at first but slowly opened up over the years.

of course, in the show its implied angel had only recently moved to the hotel since Valentino had only just found out, but in the pilot he implied he'd been staying for long enough for cherri bomb too think he'd died so val could just be stupid and/or angel was very good at sneaking around but anyway!

what if you started on this path, inadvertently. the worst happened to you and you didn’t deserve it. but the person you became after that tragedy, was someone that maybe did deserve each tragedy after it. what if you were your own worst enemy. what if it didnt have to be like this, but it always would have been like this, because this is who you are now.

what if your whole life was defined by surviving the people you loved. what if you kept surviving the unsurvivable, and it left you alone, everytime. what if you could never move past that loss. the grief is a haunting. you should have died and you didnt.

what if nobody hates the man you have become more than yourself. what if you are everything you hate. what if you walk a path of self destruction trying to destroy the person you have become, trying to find the death that escaped you, and until you find that end, everyone else is only collataral damage

Hi!! Question, since you do a lot of IDs (image descriptions) do you have any resources or tips for someone who wants to start writing them as well? What to pay special attention to, what is irrelevant, checklists etc?

Hi Anon!! This made me so happy to see. I'm glad you're interested in writing ID's!!

It's definitely not as overwhelming as it may seem. I will say I'm still learning myself, but here's my process. I boiled down my steps into a basic checklist to get you started:

Describe the category of image (digital/traditional art, photo, social media screenshot, etc.), unless it's already stated in the post.

Next, the summary. Pretend you're explaining the image to a friend (since that's pretty much the goal). You'll find yourself naturally starting out with the broadest/most obvious things. If it's a drawing or a photo, for example, that'll be the main subject[s] and whatever they're doing: "[Character] holds a bouquet of roses." "A fluffy cat blinks at the camera." OneLook Reverse Dictionary is your friend if you can't find the word for an action or pose.

Then, once you have your super basic one-to-two sentences, you can start on the details. When I'm low on energy or time, I stick to describing the most punchy details of the image: "A heart-shaped frame surrounds the characters. The piece uses pinks and reds." I also found this site for identifying drawing styles. For art, pay attention to color (or lack thereof), presence/absence of line art, and shading. For photos, describe style, mood, and color if you think it's relevant. It might be for artistic photography, not so much for a news article or a meme.*

There are different ways to demarcate your ID. You've probably seen that I use brackets around the description ( [ ] ) and sometimes a slash ( / ) right before writing "end ID." I've heard these aren't required, but lots of people prefer the visual distinction.

Use plain text (normal-sized font, no fancy formatting). You'd think it'd go without saying, but I've seen far too many people write their ID's in tiny font. Bold text at the beginning and end is fine, but that's about it.

Some subjective language is fine for describing mood (melancholy, cheerful, etc.), but don't overdo it. Don't add jokes that aren't in the image itself.

*For fictional characters, I usually only describe their outfits and features if they deviate from canon. For real people, I use my judgement on whether describing these details is relevant: Without those details, would they miss out on something important?

As for what's irrelevant, people have different preferences. I've heard from some blind and low vision people that they prefer really straightforward descriptions, while others prefer the detailed ones because they give them an equal or equivalent experience to what a sighted person would have.

I try to strike a balance, writing shorter descriptions for memes/informational images and longer ones for art. Active voice can help simplify your ID, though this isn't a strict rule.

What I have almost universally heard, though, is this: Even the most basic ID is better than none. If all you can do is a quick one-sentence description, that's ok! You've still opened up a previously inaccessible image to a new audience.

Today on September 27th of 2024 I hit my 4th month with ALS. This is not a post to scare the untrained reader but it is a post to raise awareness and open the eyes of others.

I'm about to drop some cold, hard facts that you need to be prepared for. Keep your eyes open and your attention focused!

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal type of motor neuron disease. It causes progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain. It's often called Lou Gehrig's disease after a famous baseball player who died from the disease. ALS is one of the most devastating types of disorders that affect nerve and muscle function ALS doesn't affect the senses (such as seeing or hearing). It also usually doesn't affect mental functioning. It isn't contagious. Currently, there is no cure for this disease. ALS most often affects people between the ages of 40 and 70 (I got diagnosed when I was 73), but it can occur at a younger age. It affects people of all races and ethnic groups. There are two main types of ALS: sporadic - this is the most common form of ALS in the US, making up 90% of cases. These cases occur randomly without any known genetic cause or family history of ALS. The second form of ALS is Familial this is an inherited form of ALS that affects a small number of people but many recent genetic discoveries suggest hereditary forms of ALS are more common than previously thought I have sporadic since none of my family members or past generations in my family had ALS.. now with all the info out of the way I will say the basics it takes all your function/ life generally within 5 or 4 years but some people with ALS outlive those odds! This is wonderful for people with ALS. I lose 0.1% strength in my arms every month. I live with ALS, and the more drastic numbers start declining months in. Every three months you live with ALS, you lose 1% of your head strength! It's not fun. Another thing that prolongs my life is how lengthy the process is for me to lose my breathing ability! Which I am so extremely grateful for! Every five months someone lives with ALS they lose 1% of breathing! For me, I have 10%, so it Will take a little longer for me to lose my breathing!

After all that information I would like to tell my progress and what I was in the beginning of my diagnosis

I got diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease at 73 years old on May 27th of 2024 and since then I've lost a lot of my strength and my total body precentage!

In the beginning, I was

-3.5% arms

-10% breathing 🫁

-5% head

-0% core and legs since I am a C3 incomplete and a C4-C5-T1-T10 complete Quadriplegic ♿

I was already weak and as shriveled as you could get but only to think it could absolutely get worse

On the first month of my diagnosis I was

-3.4% arms

-10% breathing 🫁

-5% head

So I lost a bit of my arm but nothing major

On my second month of my diagnosis I was

-3.3% arms

-10% breathing 🫁

-5% head

So again I didn't lose much

On my third month I was

-3.2% arms

-10% breathing 🫁

-4% head

So this time I had lost much more strength! Taking 1% off my body strength is a lot!

On my fourth month which I present to you now!

-3.2% arms

-10% breathing 🫁

-4% head

Many months are not so crucial until you hit another 3 or 5 months! This disease is a (excuse my French) shitty one at best but I won't let that stop me from living my best life! You will not defeat me ALS.
