Lucifer, the charming and devilishly handsome ruler of Hell, leaned casually against a grand marble pillar, his piercing eyes scanning the crowd. He’d seen all manner of beings throughout the ages, but tonight, one figure caught his attention: you. Charlie’s beloved mother figure, radiating warmth and kindness even amidst the chaos of the underworld. You had offered your services to the hotel not too long ago and quickly became a staple of the residents, offering a listening ear and aid wherever needed. While Lucifer had been introduced to you once before, rather awkwardly might he add, it did not deter him from admiring you from afar. You were chatting with a group of guests, your laughter like music, and Lucifer felt an unfamiliar tug at his heart—an emotion he hadn’t entertained in centuries since Lillith. As he watched you interact with Charlie’s friends, a playful smirk spread across his face. Perhaps this was a challenge he couldn’t resist. 

With a firm nod and puffing out his chest, he was ready. He hadn’t brought out any modicum of confidence in years, but why not try?  With a graceful stride, Lucifer approached, his presence commanding attention. The crowd parted as he made his way to you, his charisma lighting up the space around him. 

“Well, well, what do we have here?” he drawled, his voice smooth like velvet. Shit, was he really being that smooth right now? “A shining beacon in this abyss of despair. Tell me, what brings you to such a delightful gathering?”

You looked up, a mix of surprise and amusement dancing in your eyes. “Just keeping an eye on Charlie and her friends. They can be a bit wild.”

Lucifer chuckled, his gaze locking onto yours. “Ah, the ever-vigilant protector. How admirable. But surely, even the most dutiful guardian deserves a little fun?”

A playful glint sparkled in your eyes as you replied, “And what kind of fun do you have in mind, Mr. Morningstar?” A soft blush coated your cheeks, it was no secret to anyone but Lucifer himself that you had a huge crush on the King. That first awkward meeting, him stumbling over words and shouting wildly had you head over heels in love within seconds. Though you had never broached the subject, knowing that it might get complicated being with Charlie’s father. 

But it wasn’t a problem if he was the one that iniated the interaction, right?

“Why don’t we find out together?” He stepped closer, his gaze intense yet inviting. “I can show you a side of Hell that’s not so... overwhelming. Just you and me, away from the chaos.”

You hesitated, sensing the allure in his words but also the danger. “And what’s the catch?”

He laughed softly, a sound that wrapped around you like a warm embrace that had you letting out a dreamy sigh. “No catch. Just a chance to enjoy the night without the worries of the world. Besides, who better to share the experience with than someone who knows how to navigate this realm?”

Intrigued, you finally relented, nodding. Extending your hand for him to take, he grasped it with vigor and led you out of the room. “Alright, show me what you’ve got.”

Lucifer’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he led you away from the throng of partygoers. As you wandered deeper into the hotelm the air around you seemed to thrum with excitement. His grasp never left yours, a soft smirk playing on his lips. With each step and passing glance, the excitement turned to arousal slowing pooling in your pants. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, Lucifer halted abruptly and turned to face you. Pinning you against the wall, breath fanning over yours in short pants; his eyes flicked between your lips and eyes. 

“I—um—“ Bringing his hand to cup your chin, eyes boring into yours with a darkened lust, his lips slowly came to brush against yours. As if to give you an out, a chance to say you didn’t want this as much as he does. Seeing no hesitation, he encased you between his arms as closed the distance between them in a swift motion. Both yours lips were captured in a fervent kiss. Tongue and teeth clashed, your nimble hands traveling to settle at the nape of his neck and give a soft tug; illicting a moan from the shorter man. For the sin of pride, he might as well have been lust when he was kissing you with such emotion. 

Pulling his mouth away to trail wet kises down the valley of your neck, your hands continued to tug in his hair as breathy moans spilled past your lips in silent pleas for more. Nimble fingers traced up your waist, tugging softly on the waistband of your panties beneath your skirt before snapping the hem.

“May I? Can I take you right here, darling?”

I wish Kieran was a companion in Veilguard. I mean, I get why he wasn’t - there’s too many potential world states that would make writing his plotlines way harder than BioWare had the resources to deliver. (Especially the ones where he technically doesn’t exist)

But.

Kieran as a companion would give the game a direct link back to Origins, and could still be handled without it becoming a lore quagmire for new players. Dragon Age is driven by the consequences of your actions, and his existence is a very literal consequence. He was born in 9:31 and Veilguard starts in 9:52 - at 21 years old, he’d be both the baby of the group and the one with the widest, weirdest experience of the threat they’re up against. The context and lore he could give insight into would be amazing.

If he as conceived through the Dark Ritual, then he was host to Urthemiel’s soul before Flemeth/Mythal took that destiny from him. He could/would/should have insights into the Evaneuris and their archdemons. He knew Solas as he was growing up, he’d have opinions on his regrets. Taking him with you to negotiate with Mythal’s fragment might annihilate that deal, or might turn it into something else.

If he was only ever a normal boy - he’s still Morrigan’s son. He grew up in the wilderness and in the Val Royeaux court and Skyhold. He’s had the most eclectic and thorough magical education his extended families could provide. He might be a royal bastard with a tenuous claim to the throne, he might be the result on a one night stand with a dwarven petty criminal. He’s an outsider to every single situation he’s ever been in. Even without the Old God’s soul, he’s got to have picked up a hell of a lot more context than everyone else is operating with.

If he’s part of the Party, Morrigan is either the third evil crone/mother alongside Caterina and Shathann (Bioware, look at your issues), or stands in contrast, supporting his choices while also being terrified out of her mind for him. As Rook’s very involved mother in law, you’ve got a route to both comedy and narrative tension.

He feels like he could be such an interesting lens into the Gods and their ambitions. What the hell was he up to during Veilguard?

Soul Hates Heart and Mind: A Message To The Chonny Jash Fandom (which dives into theory territory near the end)

Sorry guys, but I don’t see enough people talking about this, or enough fics that acknowledge this, so just in case I have to remind you:

You do remember that Soul… doesn’t like Heart or Mind, right?

No, seriously. He calls them parasites in The Soul Eclectic, is borderline forcing them to try and become Whole again (that one part of The Bidding), and he’s clearly only giving them the time of day because they’re the key to making him Whole: something that’s only important to him because it would basically kill them.

Not to mention, he also fucking sends death threats to them on a daily basis- death threats that he would absolutely carry out if doing so wouldn’t also kill him. Hell, at the end of The Soul Eclectic he plans to do it knowing it would also kill him.

If Heart’s problem is that he’s too emotional for his own good, and Mind’s is that he’s an arrogant jackass who bottles up all his emotions and judges people, then Soul’s is that he’s too obsessed with the past.

He doesn’t like what’s happened to his head, he wants things to go back to the way they used to, and he takes that anger out on Heart and Mind because it’s easy for him.

Hell, I’d say it’s not a bad theory that the only reason why Heart and Mind want to be Whole again is because Soul keeps telling them they have to.

And when Vol. 2 comes out… I think it’d be a pretty good plot twist that that obsession is what started the fighting in the first place.

So with that said… out of all three of them, who deserves it most? Who must pay the toll?

Not Heart, nor Mind, but the Soul.

(Long rambles under the cut, I get a bit off topic and go all over the place. Once again please don’t kill me for this, Soul is very hard for me to connect with and understand. I’m always down to hear different opinions!)

First and foremost Soul will always be a tragic character to me, he’s just as much of a victim as Heart and Mind.

I think his loud boisterous personality is a mask, or at least a dramatized version of himself he uses to cope with what’s going on around him. Dream, Never Meant to Know, and Spring and a Storm all paint a picture of someone who’s really fucking tired but wants to keep trying. While Mucka Blucka, The Soul Eclectic, and The Bidding are him putting up an act, or at the very least amplifying his personality.

He’s honest to himself and assumingly the audience, but whenever he’s with his two thirds it’s like he has to be some sort of indifferent eccentric ring leader.

He’s quite literally driven mad by their bickering but loves Whole (and the two goobers) enough to keep trying over and over again. There’s a way he can make this work! He just needs more time.

I would like to get into my personal interpretation of Soul in RoE before we get into headcanons though.

I think Souls laughing is a trauma response. I think he’s so absolutely flabbergasted that such a thing happened he can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. I don’t think he got genuine enjoyment out of imprisoning Heart, emotions were high and he was so incredibly disappointed/upset.

As much as I love Heart and Soul I think Soul siding with Mind isn’t cruel or a reason to vilify him. Heart could have killed all three of them and Whole, he’s allowed to be pissed.

Time for relashionship headcanons/dynamics. (Very long, not the most coherent I apologize.)

I try to keep Soul morally grey. He’s not evil but he doesn’t go about things the best way either. He’s unintentionally selfish and has trouble connecting with Heart and Mind.

Soul loves them! He truly does. But after so many loops and arguments he’s subconsciously adapted how to best deal with them in Cacophony and has trouble breaking down those perceptions.

At his worst I think he sees his relationship with the other two as transactional. Heart offers an olive branch for when Soul is feeling overwhelmed and needs emotional support. Mind is there for ‘serious’ discussions and how to solve certain problems. He struggles to see them as anything past that, and gets so tired he only talks to them when he feels he needs to for his sake or their own.

Soul goes to Heart for emotional support, they have very emotionally charged conversations and very rarely delve into serious talks or problems. Heart is too ‘irrational’ for any of that. A part of Souls mind tells him that Heart is too much of a liability for any situations like this, it’s best to leave him out of it. So instead he goes to Mind for those things, essentially using Heart purely for his companionship.

(Heart knows this and feels infantilized/betrayed but he also takes great pride in being Souls confidante and will hold it over Minds head.)

Soul goes to Mind for serious problems and topics. I like to think their conversations are weirdly professional. He can’t talk to Mind about ‘emotional’ things because he would dismiss them and Heart is much more understanding. Heart can provide comfort, Mind cannot. Soul unintentionally uses Mind purely for his logic and level headedness.

(Mind knows this and takes pride in the fact that Soul doesn’t bother him with such things. He holds the ‘mature’ conversations over Hearts head. Soul respects him more than Heart, he trusts him more than Heart. But he feels a weird way whenever he sees the two of them being close, he unknowingly yearns for that connection and wants that kind of love too.)

(Oh boy my Soul and Mind are a bit fucked up.)

Soul is unaware of these things, too caught up with everything else to recognize that he himself may be contributing to the problem.

I see Souls mediator role in one of two ways.

1. He’s apathetic to both of them and tries to stay neutral, he can’t have favorites after all. This pushes everyone further apart and preventing all of them from having any semblance of normalcy or comfort.

2. Soul tries to play both sides, being nice to both of them and regularly trying to forge a connection/keeps things going like normal. But in doing so he causes a rift further between Heart and Mind, because once he sides with someone in an argument the other takes immediate offense.

I personally prefer 2. But both are good.

Mind and Soul have an awkward, professional relationship. Mind yearns to be as close to him as Heart is and feels ostracized but is too prideful to admit it. Soul has been turned down everytime he tries to connect with Mind on a more personal level so he just doesn’t really try anymore. Soul believes that Mind hates him, Mind believes that Soul hates him and that he can never be good enough. (This is short because I want to delve into them deeper in the future.)

Heart and Soul have a sort of artificially close relationship in Cacophony. Heart is easiest to connect with on a personal level and therefore they’re a lot closer. But they unintentionally use eachother to get what they want. Maybe Heart takes their relationship far too seriously? Believing himself to be Souls favorite and feeling especially hurt and betrayed whenever Soul doesn’t side with him. Heart takes it very personally. He’s jealous of Mind and Souls relationship, he wishes he was a valued member of the team like Mind, he wishes Soul took him more seriously. But at the end of the day when he’s at his lowest and Soul offers comfort he feeds into the codependency because he can’t get that love anywhere else. They use each other emotionally and would rather ignore the communication issues for a single moment of peace. He uses words like manipulate and tricks when referring to Soul siding with Mind because the idealized version of Soul in his head could never do that to him.

Random scenario:

Soul and Heart go outside to admire the moon and stars together. Because of Hearts blindness he asks Soul to describe them to him. Soul goes into great detail about everything he sees and how bright everything is.

But Heart knows that he’s lying. He can smell the incoming rain and how sticky the grass and air feels. The sky is covered in clouds, he’s sure even his moon is hidden. But he’ll indulge in the fantasy for the night, he doesn’t want Soul to feel bad. And in turn Soul will think he can get away with lying about certain things and unintentionally takes advantage of Hearts blindness. It’s all with good intentions! But it harms their relationship in the long run.

I apologize that most of this delves into Heart and Mind and strays a bit away from Soul. I get most of my enjoyment from him with his interactions with the others and therefore I have the most to say about their relationships.

Little Study on The Heart Acoustic and how it contrasts The Mind Electric and the Soul Eclectic :3 (This turned into me being a band kid. I'm so sorry.)

Was listening to The Mind Electric variants and realized something. Compared to Mind and Soul, Heart's song is a lot tamer. (This is more about the music and less about the lyrics.) That's not to say it doesn't have it's moments of chaos or isn't a chaotic song, but compared to The Mind Electric and The Soul Eclectic, it's arguably calmer; the notes and chords (more so at the beginning and end) are held out longer, the pacing is slower, but it still has bursts of energy. Meanwhile Soul and Mind's songs are paced a lot faster: words are sung quicker and notes are held for shorter periods of time, the background music is all over the place, and there are more frequent punches of energy in the background vocals.

Smaller detail, but in The Heart Acoustic, you can hear Heart audibly take a deep breath and release it right before the chorus. It's almost like he's steeling himself for what's to come, or trying to calm himself down before he does something he regrets.

Heart, the emotional side, the creature that hardly resembles a man, has a song variant slower than Mind's or Soul's. Heart is the one to stop and breathe before he does or says something rash. And the style/pacing of his song reflects that. But not only is this song about Heart being more collected than the other two put together, this song is also about Heart giving up. About Heart letting Mind have what he wants: control over their vessel. And once Heart gives that control over, chaos ensues. Because as much as Mind may hate it, he needs Heart to help balance him.

Heart has outbursts, sure, but Mind has explosions. The Mind Electric is nothing if not Mind saying "Fine, I'll do it myself, and I'll do it better than you." Mind's words are punctuated by what sounds like static and glitching as well as heavy hits on the drums and a heavy, robotic bass. In faster parts, the background music consists of a lot of quick arpeggios. Think of those arpeggios from Fate of the Stars, if you've listened to it.

By the time we get to The Soul Eclectic, Soul is desperate for the two to at least cooperate instead of fighting constantly. "Call me your host or call me insane, if that will help you stay in line." Moving on, the bass is pretty heavy on this song as well, as are the drum hits, which are sporadic, much like in The Mind Electric. When the background music is prevalent, for most of the song, it's pretty unison with the notes Soul is singing; but it's really, for lack of any better words, 8-bit sounding. The arpeggios in parts parallel to where they stand out in The Mind Electric are still there, but they're a lot fainter. Overall, Soul's song sounds the most dissonant, and I think that's because this song is essentially Soul panicking and looking for any way to get the attention of Heart and Mind, even if it means threatening the lives of all of them.

(I've now realized that the scratchy sound I'm probably hearing alongside the base is the electric guitar. Also like before you read below here I get a little off track with the instruments MY BADD)

In comparison to the other two, Heart's song is a lot brighter and harmonious. I want to point out that Heart's song utilizes saxophones (whether tenor or alto I can't tell, but I've played the beginning on alto and it's pretty high. My knowledge of tenor range is limited.), which is a lot lighter compared to the electric guitar and bass. Similar to the other two, there's arpeggios, but they're slower at the beginning and faster near the middle of the song. Played by some sort of percussion instrument (I'm hesitant to say it sounds kind of like a marimba?? The soft tones make me think so. But there might be another one, possibly a xylophone. And I think there's some sort of string instrument playing staccatos layered over it, but it's really hard to tell because they're unison. Each instrument is easier to pick apart at the very end of the song. And of course near the middle of the song he's playing the arpeggios on his keyboard. But at this point I'll get off topic beginning to name every instrument I can hear). TLDR; Overall, Heart's song is a lot less bass-heavy and has a brighter sound because of it. Despite having a brighter sound, though, the song is still overall dark due to chord progressions (I think please don't quote me on that I have basic knowledge of chord progressions as of right now). The song is slower paced than the other two, and while there is definitely bursts of energy, they are less frequent than they are in the other two.

In the end, all three of them have hit their lowest points by now. Also I got WAY too into the instrumentals my fault guys but uhh yeah. Didn't expect to dig into it that much :33333 Thank you for coming to my rambles!
