Hellyna is one of THE most interesting characters on american television right now so it is very annoying to see her reduced to just being half of a ship (both by the people who ship it and the people who anti the ship for some reason) or have people vehemently hate one entire essential half of her personality bc she’s too evil for the morality police type of fans to allow themselves to like

She’s literally the epitome of the “people say they want complex female characters but can’t even handle ___” meme, like what do you MEAN the most anti-Lumon rebellious worker on the severed floor is THEEEE heiress to the Eagan empire so when devoid of context every aspect of her that rebels is born of her privilege and entitlement?? She hates herself (mutually) bc both halves of her have what the other wants??? Hello are we seeing this !!!

And I am very tired of people treating Helly R and Helena as two separate individual entities when the entire point of this goddamn show is that innies and outies are NOT completely different people!! It isn’t surprising that Helly is a popular likable character when viewed as a separate entity from Helena, but the most interesting thing about both of them is that THEY ARE THE SAME! Helly is great but she’d be infinitely less complex and compelling if she wasn’t also the literal spawn of satan like how r u not getting this

Humbly requests for more amphiseidon

Okay um- this was gonna be series of sketches, but I had this idea ever since seeing Neal's concept Amphitrite (which has only been this image). Ever since I felt the urge to make her.. gigantic.. but I like her being the size of the average god, but remembered the Gods just shapeshift so-

I hope you don't mind that I use this ask to ramble:

This Amphitrite of mine is the version that she (and the other Nereids) is born of Nereus & Doris. I chose this version because of the lineage being more interesting to me & how I depict her here. Though who knows, I might switch to Oceanus because he's a titan. But I chose Nereus because he is "The Old Man of the Sea" and Doris is Okeanid nymph (so really it just moves her down a generation from Oceanus daughter to his granddaughter). But Nereus's father is Pontos, the Primordial God of the Sea & husband to Thalassa (his counterpart as Primordial Goddess of the Sea). It just makes her ancestry more interesting to me. And Pontos is depicted with crab claws on his person, like Amphitrite.

And because of all this big tie to water, I would assume she's more skilled with the element than Poseidon, since he inherited the Sea. Not to mention that she is just sometimes referred to as the entire ocean, making her a literal body of water (haha). And that's where this form ties in. I'm sure she could cause quite the damage if she wanted to, but I like to think it's not in her nature & that she's just the calmer seas. If anything, I think she's more patient in this form of hers, which is why her hair is more flowy than curly. Her tail is also based on Nereus's. So she shares that with her father :]

The only thing to remain on her person is her crown, located in her center. I like to think her grandfather Pontos bestowed it onto her as his eldest granddaughter. I also think it'd be cute that if Poseidon wants to find her (when her body is literally just water flowing anywhere), he'll look for her crown & that's where she'll be.

Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....

And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.

The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.

And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.

Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.

HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.

But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.

That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:

His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.

Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.

let's all think about roman literally on his knees at gerri’s feet, begging to be saved. but you can’t be saved from Logan, that’s the whole point, he is a planet of a person he’s a black hole he is every decision already made. gerri tries to get him to see this — there’s no way out, no move they could possibly make against him, because Logan. always. wins. maybe if roman could give her one reason to fight for him, but there aren’t any. it’s pointless. it has nothing to do with roman, really, and everything to do with the harsh reality that Logan is the center of their universe. but all that nuance is completely lost on roman, because in that room he is seven years old again and always. and when she asks how it serves her interests, what she is saying is show me a way out, but what he hears is that she doesn't care about him. and maybe she never did.

So unpopular opinion maybe, but I actually really liked Wiege? That could be just because I enjoyed the song but the amount of lore that they're able to give us in little snapshots is truly amazing. Hyuna losing her round, Hyuna sacrificing herself for Luka, all of the natural metaphors in the lyrics (the wings drenched with longing finally unfold, you'll embrace the sea that sings, etc), Mizi finally gonna go apeshit . . . I'm excited for what's next and I'm actually very happy with Wiege! Not necessarily happy that Hyuna died but uh thats more complicated. . .

One, it seems apparent that Luka killed the other clones of him? Which is both insane but also makes a lot of sense, insofar as his feeling of superiority towards them. It's a crazy thing to think about but it shows the way that he views most other living beings as chess pieces in a broader game, if that makes sense? He doesn't really care about people on a personal level, most often, and that's what makes Hyuna special. . .

We also get to see how Luka's love is both obsessive and possessive, the him kissing her wanted posted while in his room, (yknow the whole "your life is mine" bit from before) but we also get to see how Luka's love really is, in part, about seeking comfort from someone he loves. He leans into Hyuna while she cries, likely mourning Hyunwoo's death, and when he runs towards her, he's reaching out. It's strange how . . . earnest it is, how unadulterated by anything like possession or conditions. Not only that but Hyuna does seem to genuinely love Luka back, maybe not romantically, but she definitely cherishes him, which we knew before but it's still nice to see confirmed again.

Additionally, I would say that we get evidence that the fight that killed Hyunwoo, well, it was started by Hyunwoo. It seems likely that Luka did something to annoy Hyunwoo or did something that frustrated him, enough that Hyunwoo decided to get physical. I mean Hyunwoo doesn't seem happy about it, for sure. But with the framing, it makes me think that Hyunwoo was simply killed in a fight, most likely on accident- though we know that Luka has possessive feelings over Hyuna, from what we've seen of his past with Hyuna and Hyunwoo, he didn't seem to view them as that much of a separate entity. A lot of the shots where Hyunwoo is still alive, in Wiege at least, Hyunwoo is framed as positively as Hyuna is . . . which makes me think that Luka didn't kill Hyunwoo on purpose.

Then again it doesn't really appear like Luka knew what he'd done, in the aftermath. . .

We also get to see more glimpses of the kiddos at the garden which made me very happy!! I don't have much to say about it but I simply find it endearing to see them all together again, to have that confirmation that they really were friends, they really did love each other. Ivan bringing the others to take care of the waygein was the most interested of the "past" cutscenes to me . . . besides all of the Hyuna focused ones, that is.

Additionally, the snippets of a modern alternate universe, seemingly the high school au? or something adjacent to that, is so lovely, just to see them all happy . . .

I think it's so interesting that Hyuna sacrifices herself, fulfilling a pattern that we've seen before with 3 out of the now 4 dead characters. Ivan, Sua, and now Hyuna, all sacrificed their lives for a person that they loved. It's fascinating on a more meta level that Hyuna's sacrifice is the only one that isn't planned, she didn't intend to die for Luka today but she does because she doesn't think, she just knows that she needs to save him from being killed. I think that both of those forms of sacrifice are kind of lovely, they show the willingness to put your life on the line for someone you love (but sacrifice in and of itself is often a selfish act, and I'm definitely not saying it's heroic . . . just poetic).

Not only that but the rocket imagery behind Hyuna while she's speaking to Luka is so so strange. I don't really know what that is but I have one theory; "because everything begins from there." I think that the rocket, maybe, is representative of that first contact that humans had with the seygein all those years ago, the way that humanity got itself into this mess of slavery and suffering, and by extension, "everything begins from there." but that's my only real thoughts on the rocket . . .

man this is so long I'm sorry Geo . . . suffice to say, I actually like Wiege!! probably a weird thing to say but uh yeah, the song is lovely, the animation is stunningly beautiful as per usual, and the story is utterly thought provoking, I am rapt. The amount of lore we got in this episode along makes me froth at the mouth a little.

I have not been in this fandom long enough to reasonably judge others' takes however. "EPIC fans are so silly to characterize odysseus as feeling guilty for his actions don't you know he's a war criminal" is definitely a wild one. like first of all to each their own so settle down and let people enjoy things ok. and secondly making choices with a bad outcome, even knowingly and deliberately, does not exclude the possibility of feeling bad about it later. in fact it makes for a much more in depth character because then you get to explore what he does or doesn't feel guilt over, and why, and if that guilt ever edges into regret or not.

Genuinely have no idea where the idea of Jay losing his memories came from so forgive me for being out of the loop, and while yes that is a totally reasonable and angst-filled idea, allow me to offer this: Jay is just Like That.

I've seen this nightmare of a man before he got the UwU beam. He was a menace. A migraine-inducer. A little shit everyone wanted to conk over the head. Jay does not need to lose his memories to just be vibing in the Administration making other people do his work because he wants to play video games. He will be impossible to drag away because he doesn't want to do work and thinks the Administration is totally the best course of action and also he has not seen what the outside world looks like in months. He's not here out of a malicious plan. He's just lazy and digging in his heels because he's done this bullshit for like ten years and he wants a break. He will make this everyone elses problem.

Or, alternatively, Jay does have his memory wiped, but this changes nothing. He still doesn't wanna go back when he remembers again. The only difference is that he keeps calling his friends pajama-criminals and horrendously flirts with Nya as though she is not his literal fiancé.

I've changed her up and still have yet to fully solidify her design overall, but she is a part of the Bre'wir race, which are tarantula scorpion people!

Kana herself is really into developing inventions and technology, as she wants to be able to make things that benefit people whether they have magic or not, as well as just inventions for overall convenience. While magic is something everyone is capable of, there are those who cannot use magic at all (a very rare case), and Kana believes not developing ways of life that can function even without magic is a horrible mistake

Plus, she just loves to make things!
