Pvrging harm reduction masterpost (from someone who’s had severe bul1m14 for 3 years, and who wishes they’d gotten this advice)
I get asked a lot and see posts asking for “tips” around pvrging.
I absolutely do not condone it. It’s a horrendously dangerous, unpleasant, and addictive behavior, and often a slippery slope to full-swing bul1m14 (and trust me, that is not something you want, for the sake of your wallet and sanity).
However, I do acknowledge that that doesn’t get in the way of the urge to do it. It certainly didn’t for me. That’s not how 3ds work. Being told how dangerous and horrible something is often is just more enticing. I know people are going to try it regardless. And frankly, I’d much rather focus on tips to stay safe over just telling you “don’t do it” like a Christian parent preaching abstinence. Harm reduction is king, especially on a platform like 3dblr.
So, here is a list of things to help you stay safe.
1. I feel like I should reiterate this again- if you at all can, don’t start. It’s not the c4ls-be-gone magic spell it might seem to be. Starting is what ended my r3str1ct1v3 phase. I thought it’d just be a last resort for when I ate too much. Fast forward to now, it’s been 3 years since my first time and I consume a good 6k+ c4ls every single day, have g4ined a ton of w3ight, feel like shit all the time, have no control around food, am constantly broke, have done things that would make people gag, and have all the risk with no reward. Ultimately, you will not l0se w3ight with pvrging. It gets harder and less effective the longer you do it. While the “you can only get rid of 50%” you often hear is a myth, being bul1m1c destroys your control, and eating maintenance in addition to whatever c4ls you didn’t manage to pvrge will inevitably lead to w3ight gain over time. It simply isn’t worth it.
2. DO NOT USE FOREIGN OBJECTS. It is legitimately so dangerous. Massive choking hazard and generally terrible for your throat. If you can’t get a response with your fingers, don’t do it. I promise, getting rid of some chicken nuggets is not worth getting a plastic fork lodged down your throat and almost dying. (Yes, I am speaking from experience)
3. Some people are simply incapable of inducing v0m1t1ng. It’s more common than is talked about and is completely normal. Frankly, if you have urges to pvrge and find that you can’t do it, consider it a sign.
4. Do not brush your teeth directly after. This is because the bristles of your toothbrush will rub the acid into your enamel, increasing the chances of decay.
5. Baking soda is magic. Swish about a teaspoon with some water in your mouth to neutralize the acid. Swallowing some (significantly less- about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp) is also an easy remedy for acid reflux. Get checked and have your teeth cleaned at the dentist’s regularly- if damage starts occurring, you can catch and mitigate it early.
6. Maintain good dental health as much as you can. Continue to brush and floss regularly. Keep in mind, however, that you can’t avoid tooth decay forever. It’s inevitable with long-term pvrging.
7. One of the biggest risks is electrolyte deficiencies. You often hear of people dying from cardiac arrest. This is because thr0wing up depletes your potassium, which helps with muscle contraction. Your heart is a muscle. If it’s unable to contract, it will fail. After pvrging, replenish your electrolytes. Coconut water, Gatorade, pedialyte, anything that contains the nutrients you just got rid of.
8. Also remember to stay normally hydrated. Even just drinking water is better than nothing. pvrging dehydrates you.
9. DO NOT FLUSH. It’s one of the most dangerous games you can play.
10. Try and eat something safe after the fact, especially if you’re having symptoms of low blood sugar (shaking, dizziness, sweating, a rapid heartbeat). This can be easier said than done but it’s crucial to getting back to normal. Something easy on your stomach with some c4rbs is ideal- toast, rice cakes, crackers, etc.
11. Avoid hot showers or baths or exercising directly after. You will lose more water through sweating. Wash your hands and face- especially around your chin and mouth, pvrge-induced acne is a real thing- and rest for a while.
12. Warm drinks or cold foods like popsicles or ice cream are very soothing on the throat. Throat coat tea and hot chocolate are quite nice. The former may be best if your stomach isn’t feeling well.
13. You will bloat like crazy whenever you eat if you pvrge long term. It’s hell on your digestive tract in general. It’s one of my biggest struggles and pet peeves. Honestly, you can only really wait for it to go away. Remember that it will with time, and do something to distract yourself from it. Some things that in my experience have made it less severe are to eat at a reasonable pace, chew your food thoroughly, and sip drinks rather than chugging them.
14. L4x4t1v3s absolutely aren’t worth it. You don’t really get rid of anything and it’s a fast track to dependency and being horrifically constipated whenever you don’t use them. Stay away. If you must, opt for natural remedies like teas, fiber-rich foods, chia seeds, etc.
15. If you take medication, wait several hours before pvrging. It obviously won’t work if you just get rid of it.
Feel free to reblog this with any advice of your own. I hope this helps some of you; stay safe out there.

dental assistant here. a toothache not being touched by 800 mg ibu is (in a lot of cases) abscessed and cannot drain- pressure is building up in the jaw.
try and keep your mouth as clean as possible, use the oragel others have mentioned, keep up with ibuprofen (it reduces some inflammation, just dont take multiple doses of 800mg in a day) and pair it with acetaminophen (make sure it isnt mixed with ibuprofen). ace and ibu treat pain in different ways, and its best to have both. rinse with warm salt water- it can help draw infection out.
also- if it is an abscess due to an untreated cavity reaching the nerve of the tooth, it can continue to get infected even if it clears up eventually. until a root canal and crown are done, it's an open path for bacteria to get into it.
i cant diagnose though. it could be an impacted tooth getting infected, or damaging the root of another tooth. impacted third molars can destroy the teeth next to them if they arent extracted in time. it could be a fracture from trauma. you could be clenching and/or grinding your teeth so much you've shredded the enamel.
this is in fact a dentist level threat to get it treated but ik that getting a visit is financially hard. if you find a cheaper one in your area, ask if they have payment plans. community health centers may be an option depending on your area.
im sorry and i really hope it at least lets up on you soon. those nerves are some of the most sensitive in the body and i dont wish that on anyone
Yeah I've been worried that the cavity was turning into an infection or smthn for the last 2 or 3 days ... luckily tho I already had a dentist visit scheduled for this Tuesday 💛 Got some oragel + ibuprofen so it'll just be a rough weekend is all

OC Kiss week 2025 day 4 - Reunion!
This one features my Ventrue Antitribu Godwynn and @crownedinmarigolds Giovanni/Hecata Noa.
Noa eagerly awaits Godwynn as he returns from a task she set him on.
Tumblr media
The tall ornate clock chimed twice. It was late, or becoming early depending on your outlook. Noa sat in the tall backed, armless, and pink cushioned chair. Motionless, as if staring at the door would enchant it to bring him to her.
On the small round table near her was a porcelain teapot enameled pink and painted with crisscrossing vines and roses in varying states of bloom. Matching cups with saucers sat in front of the pot, flanking a sugar bowl and cream pitcher. Across the table was another chair. The back is lower than her own chair with blue cushions but otherwise the wood was carved to match. It lacked the indicators of use that her own had. Stress on the fabric, nearly microscopic nicks and indentions. It was practically brand new. Above head a ceiling fan spun lazily. The hum of incandescent bulbs played on her eardrums and bathed the room in fiery orange light.
The clock chimed three times, followed by a ringing bell that did not belong to the clock. Nervousness was something she'd forgotten long ago, but anticipation still dwelled in her. She shifted in her chair, smoothed down her long pink skirt, and pushed her hair back off her shoulders. She sat motionless again, staring at the door, eyes just a little bit wider.
The knock on the door made her blink.
“Come in.” Her deep and warm voice carried through the room. She didn't have to ask, she knew who it was.
The door pushed open and stepped in the one that caused such anticipation swimming inside her. He was tall, broad, blonde, full beard, and red eyed. He wore blue woolen pants and a matching waistcoat, with a white shirt beneath. She notes his lack of a coat and tie that he normally wears. An indulgent thought of him succumbing to his own anticipation causing him to discard the articles crossed her mind. He shut the door behind himself and strode across the floor, posture proud, and aura lustrous. His unblinking eyes were set on her the moment he came into the room and never left. As he knelt on one knee in front of her his red glower never left her dark gaze.
She held her hand out to him, as part of their normal ritual. He took it gently in his own, her smooth soft skin scratched against his callouses. His eyes went down to her hand, cold to touch and warm in tone. He leaned in, gently pressing his lips to her knuckle. She smiled down at him, pleased not just for the long time apart to be concluded but also to have such a man kneeling before her. The feeling of his lips to her skin, the light scratching of his mustache, almost made her feel girlish.
“My mission was successful.” His voice had an even icy tone. He kept his head bowed as he spoke. “The Coven of Old Grove is destroyed.”
“Well done amor. Please, join me and drink to your success.” Her voice is regal and holds hidden meaning.
He looked back up into her dark eyes and slowly rose to his feet, still holding her hand in his. Pulling her gently he brings her into an embrace, keeping hold of her hand, with the other arm around her waist. The anticipation within her felt like it would burst free from her. She nearly trembled at his touch as he looked down at her with his bright red eyes.
“To our success.” He said low and even. His hand moving from the small of her back to her cheek, his ice cold touch almost made her shiver as he brushed back her dark curly hair.
“To our success.” She replied in a near whisper.
He bared his fangs and struck, latching onto her exposed neck. His fangs broke skin and punctured her artery. He bit down hard on her slender neck, his dull teeth painfully dug into her skin, constricting her windpipe as she let out a strained moan. He drew long and deep from her. The anticipation inside her finally released, she felt weightless, and nothing else in the world mattered than this moment.
It was just the two of them, finally, reunited at last.

taka stinks. literally. like he’s very tidy about his appearance and folds all his clothes n shit but he uses those 3-in-1 shampoos that just smell synthetic. his skin feels like paper & his hair feels like bristles on a broom
and have you seen his sprites he’s sweaty all the time. he smells like cheap soap and discomfort. in a similar vein i also like to think he’s the type that brushes his teeth too hard and destroys the enamel
YESSS YOU GET IT!!!!
He might have his room spot clean with every speck of dust counted for and treats his body like a temple but that temple also spews out snot and slobbers like a dog.
And yeah half of his sprites are just sweating, crying or snotting and spitting all over the place, if you’re his friend you’re gonna be in the splash zone no matter what.
Balling his eyes out in the dentist office when they tell him he has 5 cavities, he’d deny it and never get over that…
Also personally I feel he smells like a musty closet, not a horrible smell but it’s enough to wrinkle your nose a bit if you get to close.

Re-the toothpaste ask.
For starters I'd make it have a food-save water soluble adhesive, so it actually stays on your toothbrush until you put it into your mouth.
I'd also include tiny virus particles which contain CRISPR CAS sequences. These sequences will do the following things in specific cells:
excrete a chemical which slowly destroys the enamel near certain cells in the dentin;
the same cells will excrete a substance that will go through the enamel, this substance will then react to certain substances in the toothpaste, growing the teeth there;
cause cell division within the pulp and the dentin, so that it grows into the cavity destroyed by the first sequences;
excrete a substance in other cells which also goes through the dentin and reacts with stuff in the toothpaste, but this time to shrink the enamel there.
These features would then combine in a way that morphs the teeth into a carnivorous maw.
Also, tiny amounts of poison. Not enough to actually cause harm, but enough to build up an immunity.
You are absolutely insane. Because my english is shit I do not understand 25% of what you have written.
And of course you had to add poison. You absolute menace.

Samples from Jay and Nyas care book for Nindroids
Tumblr media
In my story Anatomy of a droid this book is just shown and talked about but I imagine it to be filled with all sorts of things making a sort of care and problem solving guide and holds examples of problems the others caused and explanations for the others about why these problems arose and how to avoid them in the future. This is some of the stuff I thought could appear in the book. It would including some stuff like this:
The Book contains sections like:
The basics for caring for them, sections for each of their systems, a section on their senses, a section on basic repairs for them, a section on reboots and recalibrations that they can do for them along with other tech works, a section listing dangers for them and things that are safe for them with explanations on why things are safe or not and a section dedicated to each of them covering unique features traits and behaviors for each (one for Zane and one for Pixal).
Basics: for everyday things like what they can and can’t have, things to watch out for, things not to do with or around them, a bit on how they think, daily care like feeding and cleaning, normal behaviors, their equivalents to being sick, etc.
Examples from basics:
Remember for their safety we can't talk much about the specifics of nindroids or care for them in public and you can only tell or get help from others if Pixal and Zane have deemed it okay to do so or trust the individual. If someone asks you about them be vague; we don't want knowledge getting to the wrong people. That can easily prove very bad. This has led to a lot of myths about them but unless the myths are harmful for them it's better the public has them than the truths. If you're going to play around and encourage some myths make sure to be nice about it don't get absurd or scary with them. Many already have fears and beliefs that nindroids inherently are very dangerous and secretly want to destroy or enslave humanity. We've never seen proof they inherently wish to do this and this belief is dangerous for Zane and Pixals safety and the overall image to nindroids. Don't do anything to further encourage or prolong the belief. Also careful what you say. We know Cole didn't mean any harm when comparing Zane to an Alsatian Shepherd but that has led to some kids gifting Zane dog biscuits; luckily the shelters always happy to take them.
If they are low on energy do not feed them batteries. We don’t know which of you did that, Zane refused to tattle, but we know it was one of you. Given past records we’re pretty sure it was you Kai. No matter who it was don’t feed droids batteries. For one that is not how batteries work, two while in them and still fairly intact the battery will shock them and thirdly as it’s digested the acids and chemicals in the batteries will disrupt their systems normal flora and chemical balance making them sick and larger batteries like D batteries can get stuck in their systems.
Remember when working with them to have your shots particularly for tetanus up to date. Tetanus is a very unpleasant condition, has no cure and will end your carrier as a ninja. Zane and Pixal can’t help it if they’re harbouring tetanus, the bacteria just has a strange love for making metal its home and with a great deal of metal to their bodies they have a high chance of harbouring the stuff. They can easily keep it off the outside of their bodies however can’t do much about the inside. Also even though synthetics coat the interior of their mouths and enamel coats their teeth covering the metal the bacteria is still present there. Normally they won’t bite but when being restrained especially if they’re having a bad dream they tend to bite in defence. Along with Tetanus they can unintentionally be harbouring and transfer other dangerous bacteria and even some viruses, fungi and parasites without realising it since they aren't affected by it so won't realise they are carrying them. Remember how Jay accidently got Serpentine-pox making his skin scaly and itchy for a week because Zane was accidently carrying the disease or how we all got ringworm because Zane had helped a cat that had it and didn’t realise at the time that even though he’s immune that he could spread it to the rest of us. They try to keep themselves from being a danger but sometimes they have no control over it or accidents can happen. Best to be safe over sorry.
There are a few viruses known to affect nindroids, before some of you freak out no you can't catch these viruses (unless you have cybernetic implants) they affect droids only. These will cause various systems to malfunction causing them to work improperly and cause pain. They can also cause balance issues and navigation issues or even mess with their senses. They keep their antivirus software up to date so it is very unlikely they should have problems with these however you never know. Despite their precautions things can happen not to mention while they can defend against technical attacks they can't do much against magical attacks which can give them these or comparable conditions. Signs they have a virus can include: random and often unexpected passing out, being tired often sleeping more, poor balance and co-ordination, poor focus, trouble thinking, digestive issues, coughing, internal pains, poor communication (speaking may sound like gibberish, be backwards or they are using some other language and might not realise it), senses might randomly shut down on them leaving them blind, unable to hear anything or even feel anything and they may even become aggressive and attack others (Jay: I consider one of these viruses Robot Rabies. It's kind of like it; they don't foam at the mouth but will drool a bit and loose co-ordination and balance while becoming uncontrollably aggressive. Luckily they can't transmit it to us however they can give it to each other so if they are showing signs like this keep them separate and don't let them connect to each other; the virus downloads to any cybernetic system it encounters on its own. You might have to lock them up till we can purge the virus from their coding; the virus prevents them from easily being put offline so that won't work to keep them in control. You have to override the virus to knock them out and none of you have the skills or knowledge for that.) Magical caused conditions are much less predictable and cause behaviors and symptoms they usually are incapable of having or do things to them that a simple virus can't. If you suspect they may have a virus we'll deal with it. The computers in the Hanger bay can easily diagnose it for you but none of you have the skills to remove it. Do not try to remove a virus yourselves; you could easily mess up and cause serious and potentially dangerous problems. Best thing you can do till we can help them is keep them calm, safe and comfortable till we can help them.
If they are as Kai described it once 'glitching' which is simply functioning problems and/or falling asleep or offline at odd times that's more likely a sign they are low on energy not a virus. Just give them something to eat and let them rest. It will take a while for them to get back to normal functioning levels after this so don't freak out and think somethings wrong because they aren't better in a few minutes. It takes them a while to recover from low energy; it's not an instant process. Just think you're not fully recovered rate after lunch or a nap either.
Magnets and Droids: the metal of Zane and Pixals body is titanium which is not magnetic so magnets won’t stick to them however they can prove dangerous to them as they disrupt their navigation sensors and balance and strong magnets can confuse their sense of direction. Remember if you’re going to play with magnets to have fun with them do it during down time and not when we could be on a mission so you can hide magnets in their PJ’s or street attire for a prank not in our uniforms. Just remember that screw up Jay did by hiding that surprisingly strong fridge magnet in Zane's hood and we lost him that mission only to find he’d wandered to the totally opposite side of town because the magnet messed with his sense of direction and he didn’t realise he was going the wrong way because of it. Also don’t feed them magnets. Even when inside them the magnets will mess up their sense of balance and navigation and make them sick. Cole we know it was an accident that you accidently mixed fridge magnets into the cake you practised baking and got Zane to try. Next time when getting something out of the fridge leave the bowl on the counter and not try to hold it, the door open and get what you need at the same time. We can’t fully blame you however as Zane holds some of the blame since he did sense something off about your cake and should have declined instead of having some; he was not wanting to be rude to you. All we’re trying to say is be more cautious and aware of what you’re doing.
Do not worry it is normal for them to sneeze. Sneezing means they have likely got something up their nose that isn’t supposed to be there. Usually it is just something like dust or smoke that they can get out on their own but on rare occasions they have ended up with a live insect up their nose. Usually they can get it out on their own if not you may have to use tweezers to help get it out. Before you complain about the task remember they’re not pleased or comfortable with it either so you’re both finding it unpleasant. If the tweezers don’t work you will have to use water to flush out the insect. Yes this isn’t pleasant for them either.
On rare occasions we have found unexpected critters sheltering in their bodies usually just under their skin or in hatches or ports in their bodies. Usually they can get them out on their own but sometimes they may need help. Remember to be careful when helping them so you don’t cause damages or pain; remember you two in particular Lloyd and Kai if you think this task and the critters you’re removing like spiders are creepy remember how unpleasant it is for them. How would you feel to have a spider un-wantedly living in you especially by your heart? On the less creepy side not all unexpected critters are unpleasant. Remember the time we kept hearing weird noises from Zane and he was acting a bit weird during a mission and we found he was carrying around a duckling in one of the storage ports in his abdomen to keep it warm while he waited to get a chance to take it to a rescue.
Do not play around with those shocking pranks with them. What feels like a minor shock to us feels like a major shock to them and causes problems for their hearts and temporary disruptions to their nervous systems. It's not just unpleasant but painful for them.
If they are having digestive problems you can give them rice or some form of flavoured milk with their medicine mixed in to help make them better. Do not mix oil in with anything you are trying to make them better not make problems worse. You can give them things with ginger to help. Their medicine is specially formulated for droids and is toxic to humans; it won’t kill you but will make you really sick. Do not drink it; this means you Cole.
If you find them passed out from the heat bring them to a safe location out of the sun preferably indoors. Putting a fan nearby blowing on them can help them cool down. Let them rest till they're cool but keep an eye on them. If they don’t seem to be cooling down or you want to help them out wrap an ice pack in a towel and place it in a compartment in their chests for about twenty minutes. That should help them cool down. You can also give them ice or other cool items like popsicles to consume to help cool their core temperatures. Make sure nothing emitting heat is near them and if you have to you can dress them in lighter less covering clothes to help them loose heat. A cool shower or placing them in a cold storage room can also be very helpful.
Let sleeping droids lie. They need their rest just like us and do not like to be disturbed. If they are sleeping they likely have a good reason for doing so therefore do not disturb them unless it is absolutely necessary. Warning if Zane is having a nightmare be careful about waking him or touching him; you could get hit or punched and Kai knows just how painful that can be and Zane didn't hit him with his full strength that time and he got a bloody nose and black eye. Sometimes placing a teddy in his arms can settle him a bit. Playing the audio we put on that special speaker which is stored in his nightstand also helps. Only try to wake him if it is absolutely necessary or he is in danger of hurting himself like falling out of bed. Pixals not as bad and doesn't suffer bad dreams as badly as Zane but she can still be just as dangerous so be very careful when dealing with her bad dreams to. The same methods for calming him down work on her too.
Droids are intolerant to citrus so be very guarded over giving them any citrus fruits, anything with extracts from citrus and any juices with citrus. If you do give them anything with citrus give them only a small amount. Anymore and they'll get sick and you'll need to give them some of their 'medicine'. Pop is also not good for them; the very high acidity to the stuff is bad for their systems disrupting the natural biota of their systems not to mention the acid used in them is citric based. We also recommend you don’t give them Coles chilli; we’ve had enough problems from that already. Also some of Wu’s special teas are a bad idea; droids react a bit differently (sometimes very differently and potentially dangerously) to the teas. Be careful if you give them any and know it may have unexpected and potentially dangerous effects for the rest of us.
Keep them indoors during thunderstorms, they can easily get struck by lightening and that will seriously stress their hearts. If they are unfortunate to get struck bring them indoors as quickly as possible to keep them from getting struck again. If struck they will get knocked offline. Just let them rest but keep a close eye on them. Hook up one of the portable system monitors for them to keep tabs on their vitals. They most likely will need a reboot after getting struck; for the reboot go to the chapter on reboots and recalibrations.
Remember their senses are stronger and more sensitive than ours meaning they are easily overstimulated. Do not play music loudly close to them, strong smells like from cologne bothers them (do not use much of it), certain fabrics and materials irritate their sense of touch; if they say something is bothering them it is so don’t joke with it. When their senses are overstimulated it causes functioning problems and slows their processors as their brains try to process the excess sensory information along with normal functioning's. Not only will this slow their brains functioning but can also cause problems for their emotional circuits making them at mild moody. Also take note if somethings bothering their senses they could be sensing something dangerous or serious for us such as toxic gasses that we are unaware of; sometimes they don’t realise or understand certain dangers as dangers for us. They just seem odd or irritating to droids.
Remember emotions are difficult for them to understand so try not to play around with them to them. Also don't assume because they are not showing anything that they are not feeling anything. They might not know or understand how to show or deal with an emotion so opt not to show anything to avoid confusions or problems. They also have a tendency to hide emotions especially if somethings wrong so watch for hints of this, they might be very small, but these can lead to bigger problems down the line. It's best if we deal with the problem as soon as we can and not let it prolong and get worse.
Sarcasm is also strange to them so be careful how you say or word things. Also be wary with idioms and common sayings, if they don’t understand them they may take it too literal. Remember Cole’s comment about being hungry enough to eat a horse and Zane made horse for dinner. That was just a weird consequence, we probably don’t want to find out how they will react to something like ‘break a leg’, ‘get something out of your system’, ‘give someone the cold shoulder’, or ‘beat around the bush’. At best they won’t understand them and just get confused at worst someone could get hurt.
If their skin is cut yes they can feel it, don’t poke at exposed wires that hurts too. They sense pain differently from us but they still feel it. If you are with one of them and us and the other isn’t around to deal with a scratch in their skin make sure nothing is exposed. If wires are sticking out carefully and gently put them back in their skin then wrap a cloth around the area like a bandage to keep debris out and from anything falling out or getting in. A small insect getting in their body could cause problems by chewing through wires or into their cooling system. Do not try to fix the damage yourself; we’re talking to you Kai. Repairing this damage requires a delicate touch not just plain welding like on a mech. We will do it or they will help each other fix it do not try to fix it yourselves. If they are cut and leaking cooling fluids, don’t worry they’ll shut that system down to stop the leak till the damage is fixed, don’t worry it is safe to touch the stuff and help them clean it up; it is not safe however to eat so wash it off your hands especially, and this is for you Cole, before eating. If you want to know more about these fluids check the section on their internal systems. They will explain the various substances in their body more thoroughly.
Do not give them bubble gum. They tend to just swallow it not realising it's not editable. This won't lead to too much problems, usually it just passes through their systems without problems, but it's not healthy for them and too much of it could build up and get stuck in their systems especially if other foreign debris it can get stuck to is in there (nindroids have a bad habit of eating things they aren’t supposed to; They get confused over what is and isn’t editable for them) which means it will have to be manually removed and we will make you do that remember this.
Yes they can get intestinal parasites but the chances of that are slim and plain de-wormers are effective at treating this. No despite what Kai thinks they can't transfer lice to you; they don't have blood which is what those bugs feed on so the bugs don't bother with them. They can't transfer fleas or ticks either again cause they have nothing for these insects. If you get them you got them from someone else not Zane or Pix. Maybe Kai be more careful where you put your hood in the future.
If for some reason they need you to help clean themselves cause they are having troubles doing it themselves you can use regular soaps and shampoos on them, they prefer using these. They both like smells reminiscent of woodlands, rain and lakes or seas. There is though a special cleaner for them. The main difference between this cleaner and normal ones is it helps better remove grease like from oils and neutralizes their cooling fluid and synth-regrow making them safer for others to touch. You use this cleaner if they have oil, their cooling fluid or synth-regrow on them. You can also use it to clean these materials off yourselves.
No noises from machines aren't some secret Robot language this is a myth so don't ask them if they can understand the noises. It's just noise to them like it is to us; we're especially addressing you here Kai.
Yes we know it scares you Kai that nindroids are highly carnivorous but this is the safest and by far most efficient diet and anatomy for nindroids and don't worry you have a greater chance of Cole eating you than Zane or Pixal; unless of course someone messes with their minds then we can't tell the chances of this happening but there is a low chance that will happen. We have a few methods in place to try and keep others from messing with their minds. We will admit though that these precautious don't always work and we have not been able to figure out a way to keep magical effects from messing with their minds. Also, Kai and Lloyd this is for you two, as far as we can tell neither of them appears to have programing that tells them to enslave or conquer humanity; at least we're pretty sure they don't. That doesn't mean something can't happen though to make them try to do this so we just have to be careful to make sure this doesn't happen.
Remember Zane and Pixal have extreme trust in us letting them put themselves in highly vulnerable positions like being put offline and for us to work on them including on all parts of their anatomy. Let’s not do anything to hurt this trust. If something happens to them we’re some of the few that can help them so we need their trust in order to keep them safe and well. Once damaged a nindroids trust can be hard to regain. Do not do anything, even as a prank, with them while they are in a vulnerable state especially don’t mess around with anything of their anatomy. Jay setting Zanes speech to pirate speak annoyed Zane and stressed his trust in Jay till Jay could prove he wasn’t going to do that, anything like that or mess with anything else of his body for a while.
Systems: an overall guide to their various internal systems. Each goes into detail about each system including how it works, what parts are involved with it, unique features to them, dangers associated with them, how to tell if the system is malfunctioning and how to fix the malfunction, how to work with these parts and repair them, etc. For their digestive system it includes a list of things that are harmful for them or that they can't have and a list of things that are good for them or safe to have. Examples:
              Nervous System: includes their senses.
Their neural systems runs off a great deal of electricity so if they get injured and wires are exposed and you touch these wires you will get shocked and it’s quite a shock. Wait for them to shut off power to the region damaged then you can work with the wires.
Yes they can feel things so if you hit them don’t wonder if they can feel it. They do feel it; their senses of course just perceive things a bit differently from ours but they still feel it.
Because it runs off electricity their nervous systems are sensitive to electricity.
Their base vision is the same as ours however they have several added spectrums they can see in that they can turn on and off when needed. This includes the ability to see in the UV spectrum and to see temperatures. These added features however have the negative effect of making their vision sensitive to bright light; this is why they are irritated by bright light such as the midday sun and when your phone or computer screen is too bright. These features do let them see better in the dark but while better than our night vision it is not as good as a cats. Don’t joke that they have the eyes of a cat you’ll just confuse them. Commenting they have the vision of a cat or any other animal can also cause them to lecture you on the differences between their vision and an animals and we know that involves a lot of big complex words most of you don’t understand well so unless you want to hear them just keep your comments to yourselves.
Like with animals their sense of smell includes an ability to detect pheromones which means yes they can smell your fear. It also means they can smell if your ill so if they tell you that you smell odd or off don't brush it off. You might want to look into why they are commenting this. Remember how they both once kept commenting Cole smelt strange but was ignoring their observations and we found out later after we all got it that he had pink eye and was trying to hide it? They could detect the changes in pheromones the disease was causing to his body. They didn't understand or know the cause of what they sensed as off they could just sense something different. Even if it really isn't a huge problem don't just brush off what they are sensing as nothing. There could be something serious to it; we're pretty sure none of us want pink eye again right?
              Respiratory System:
When submerged under water like instinct they stop their breathing to prevent getting water in their lungs. Sometimes however this behaviour may malfunction and they might accidently breathe in water. If that happens to prevent problems like mold and bad bacteria developing in their lungs you will have to drain the excess water. This is a simple procedure that shouldn’t be too hard for the likes of you to complete.
Parts for this system are pale pinkish in color and like all his synthetic organs dark strands of wiring are visible in the substance.
              Cooling System:
This system runs all through their bodies and is used to maintain a stable and equal body temperature. The system consists of various tubes that hold a thermal carrying liquid which is constantly pumped through their bodies to maintain and redistribute heat and cold. The systems center is a decent sized structure housed in an insulated casing near their hearts. The structure includes a compressor which cools the fluid.
The fluids in their cooling systems operate through heat transfer. They are not toxic or dangerous but if consumed will make you sick. Always wash your hands after dealing with it. If they lose cooling fluid from an injury it can be replenished. Let us or them do this as you have to seal the damaged tubing first before refilling it.
If they receive an injury that damages their cooling system causing it to bleed don't worry too much they will shut down the system to prevent loosing too much of the liquid however this is dangerous as it means their temperature controls are offline and they can very easily overheat. You need to repair the damage as quickly as possible so they can get the system started or take measures to help keep their body core and head cool. You can repair the damage yourselves just be careful. You will need to use Synth-repair to do it so follow the instructions found in the basic repairs section very carefully. Remember Synth-repair is dangerous for our skin so be careful.
              Digestive System:
The digestive systems of droids are very dangerous so great caution needs to be taken when working with it. We recommend none of you try any work on it and leave this kind of work for a professional. Coles the only one cautious enough to safely do such work but all of you are too grossed out by it to be safe with this kind of work.
Warning if you do something that ends up with them swallowing something they aren’t supposed to eat and it could get stuck in their systems or could hurt them like cutting up their insides we’re going to make you remove the items with your bare hands. Yes this is very dangerous and yes their digestive fluids will eat some of your skin but maybe that injury will teach you to be more careful in the future.
The fluids in their digestive systems consist of hydrochloric acid which is stronger than that of humans as well as very powerful enzymes and bacteria much like what you’d find in a bear or vulture. If you get them on your skin you have to wash them off as quickly as possible as they will easily eat away at your flesh. If they do eat away at your skin you’re going to need to use a special cleaner to stop the enzymes and bacteria from continuing to eat away at you and you will get a pretty nasty infection from it. Don't worry it's easy to treat and generally won't leave scarring. Do not worry if their systems do digest some of you it won’t turn them into man eaters nor will them biting you do that despite what the myths say.
Remember their bite strength is comparable to that of a bears and even though their teeth are like those of ours in shape due to their metal make they are sharper so can do much more damage. Luckily they usually won't bite unless they are defending themselves and they have few other options. Best not to give them a reason to bite. Instead of forcibly restraining them if somethings wrong use the app we made to in a sense sedate them to settle things.
Things that are safe for them include any form of meat including shellfish and insects, rice, apples, peaches, watermelon (make sure they don't eat the rind it isn't healthy for them), potatoes, corn but not the cob (you have to watch Zane with this he tends to eat the whole thing), breads (in moderation, too much is not healthy for them), peas, beans, peppers but not spicy ones, carrots, lettuce, dairy products, chocolates and candies (nothing though that uses citrus like orange flavoured or sour flavours nor emulates a citrus flavor), tomatoes (a little bit is fine but these are high in acidity so they cannot have too much), tea, pineapples and grapes. Things that are not safe or good for them include citrus fruits including juices made from them (you can use lemon for seasoning but do not use too much like Kais seasoning too much also one small citrus fruit won’t seriously hurt them but don’t let them have anymore for at least three to four days; droids are basically citrus intolerant), most juices (for some reason a lot of them are made with citric acid which comes from citrus for some reason when they don't need to be; we think this is done to give them more vitamin C but nindroids don't need that and citrus is harmful for them), avocados, highly acidic things like pop (they can have a small 250 ml cup once in a while not a whole bottle Cole not even when it is just 500 ml), spicy things including spices and peppers, bananas and cucumbers for some reason, nuts, most leafy plant items like spinach broccoli and kale, fermented foods or drinks and caramel (if it somehow gets past the synthetics in their mouth or throat it could clog up joints or connectors in their body leading to problems so best not to play with this stuff).
Do not feed them cat or dog food. Just because they have a similar meat high diet pet food is not good for them or a good idea. Jay did it once as a joke but we shouldn't play around with this; they actually found the fish cat food not too bad. Along with not being healthy for them, cat food has additives meant for cats that aren’t healthy for a droids system causing imbalances, knowing how they think we don't want them growing a liking to it and end up thinking tuna cat food can be a substitute for actual tuna and use it as such. Do you want to end up eating cat food instead of regular tuna? We know Cole might not be too bothered but we doubt the rest of you will like that. We know we won't plus cat food isn't safe for humans for the same reasons it isn't safe for droids.
Most of the components of this system are a sickly green tinted dark purple color. The color helps keep the interior of the system dark for the symbiotes in it. The materials in their mouths is a normal pinkish to not appear different from a regular persons. The wiring in these parts isn't easily visible when the systems off but when it is active some circuits, largely major ones, give off a faint icy blue glow.
A section on their skeleton and musculature.
A section on their hearts:
It may look fragile but the material is stronger than it looks. It is not invincible however. It is also capable of sensing touch so don't poke at it. Not only do they find having it touched without their consent uncomfortable but when it is touched without them preparing to have it touched as a self defense the material releases a serious electric shock in defence. This is not only painful for them but drains some energy which isn't good if they're low on energy and it temporarily stresses the material. Depending on the severity of the touch and the shock given this can be for only a few minutes to nearly over half an hour.
A section on the more tech work to them like calibrations and reboots plus various useful codes to work with them like for calming them down, sedating them, etc.
Zane and Pixal each get a section with stuff unique to them for the others to know.
Zane:
He finds chores relaxing and calming. Clutter and mess bother him.
Kids make him a bit nervous as they often ask him very personal questions about his workings which he isn't comfortable talking to others about and they often make what he considers weird comments or remarks about nindroids which he often doesn't understand. Some also try to play with the panel in his arm or want to see his inner workings which he is very uncomfortable with.
Zane doesn't do well with magic. He doesn't understand it well and when it is used on him particularly if it affects his mind it greatly unsettles him.
Pixal:
Pixal better understands what it means to be human and understands sayings and idioms better.
She loves when given a task as she not only enjoys working with her hands but enjoys the challenge of improving on a task. You ask her to repair something and not only will she repair it but find a way to improve on it and make it better/more efficient.
Pixal is more tolerating and comfortable of magic and isn't as bothered by it but like Zane hates when it messes with her mind.
Tumblr media
Some side notes:
When you think of it having thought he was human for quite some time before finding out he was a droid likely would really have messed Zane up making it hard for him to tell what is and isn't natural or normal for him leading to quite a bit of confusion and strange habits and behaviors.
Kai strikes me as one of those who acts all tough but in reality can't stand the sight of blood or gore and would pass out from some of the simplest of injuries. I'm pretty sure the bandage he has on his face since season 8 he's afraid to take off nervous of what is underneath so it's now just melded into his skin for being there so long.
I take that Lloyd and Kai are probably the most uncomfortable and least skilled with working on and understanding Zane and Pixals anatomy. Coles probably no expert but is rather mature and responsible with it and will try his best.
Alsatian is an old term for the German Shepherd; I thought it more fitting as it doesn’t relate to an easily recognizable real world location.

Teeth whitening kills your enamel and weakens your teeth, if you feel it hurting you should contact a dentist! If it hurts that means it got beyond your enamel, which means you might need to start taking extra precautions to protect your teeth long term!
Im a special case, I have genetic factors, but as someone who had to have all their upper teeth removed at 20 years old I plead of you to see a dentist immediately. If you can do preventative maintenance now, you'll save yourself a huge bill and potentially huge dental issues down the line!
I also suggest pro-namel toothpaste with sensodyne, i dont normally promote brands and it tastes god awful, but the difference in enamel degradation on my bottom teeth is noticably slower since Ive been using it long term, and the sensodyne in it really helps. I even use it on one tooth that occasionally decides it hates existence and it'll numb the discomfort
But PLEASE take this seriously! I am worse case scenario, and you do NOT want to be where i am
I believe it. This is something that I want to talk to my dentist about cuz it’s def not normal for your teeth to hurt the way mine did. I mean with those pro enamel commercials I figured that with the pain I felt, that I had weak enamel, which sucks. Luckily we do have the toothpaste you mentioned. Def not using it anymore tho. I’d rather be self conscious about my off white teeth than to destroy my teeth.

So since my Yu-Gi-Oh tin project was so popular on here and some people even mentioned wanting the set I wanted to let you know that I did make extras and have some available on my Etsy store. They are shipping from Canada and are quite large so don't come cheap but I also wanted to show my methods for those with access to tins themselves.
As well as the pictured: paintbrushes (disposable), enamel paints, cotton wool and alcohol (for removal), you will also need PPE such as masks and gloves as enamel paints are highly corrosive. Additionally, I did lose the photo but a good clear metal primer to spray on the tins before painting is very important.
I did freehand the paint mixing but made so many of these that found that the above painting order works best for preserving as much paint as possible. The trick is to paint colours in steps going into the secondary colours and while I either missed some steps or lost some photos hopefully it will be enough to help you.
Some tips:
Keep a small bowl of 100% alcohol around to keep your brushes clean, if the paint is allowed to dry it will destroy the brush.
The paint I bought was enough to do 3-4 minimum and is very expensive so many do a couple at a time if you have no other plans for the paint.
Feel free to message me on here if you need any help when attempting this project
P.S. I was unable to source the inspiration image even with Google Lens reverse search so please let me know who created the initial art if you know so I can credit them.

Saw your weathered gogg. It looks really cool!!Do you have a post where you talk about how you weather your gunplas and what materials you usually use? I'd love to get into weathering myself but I'm a little lost. I love the rest of your guys too. Especially the custom painted ones!
Oh my god thank you so much! I don't usually think to take many wip pics but I can give you a rundown! The easiest way that I've found to start weathering and the first thing I did on the gogg was dry brushing. It's a technique where you get a bit of paint on a wide brush (typically old or cheap ones) and then wipe all the paint off on a paper towel. Then you lightly brush over the edges of the model, which leaves small streaks of paint that can look like various types of weathering depending on the paint you use.
To make it look like the paint has been scraped away I use tamiya metallic aluminum and to add dirt or mud I use Vallejo earth brown. The specific brands don't matter, as long as it's the type of color you want. Though I pretty much exclusively use acrylic paints because I don't want to deal with the fumes that enamel paints give off.
There are a lot of great tutorials out there on drybrushing and I think it's really fun because of how immediately the look of the model changes from clean to messed up. For a few years it was the only weathering technique I used and I was happy with the results.
After dry brushing I wanted to add more of a chipped and rusted look, so I used a sponge technique similar to this video:
https://youtu.be/dCFeubADBKg?si=pGq8dhCnd3Jr89wH
I went in with the aluminum. After that, I mixed the Vallejo brown with some red until I got an orange rusty color I was happy with. I tried doing a third layer with black like in that video but I didn't really like how it was working with the layers I had already made. I think I only put it on the feet.
After all of that, I used a tamiya weathering master set with a rust color. I had never used one before, but it's very similar to a makeup pallet. You apply streaks of color with a sponge brush and wipe off the excess. I used a rust color. It unfortunately didn't pop much given the colors of the model itself, but I'm excited to experiment with it in the future.
What I have found to be very good advice for weathering is to think of it as a kind of storytelling. Every scratch, chip, and smear that you add got onto the suit somehow, and thinking about that can help direct where and how you apply weathering. When I'm adding mud I try to think of what parts come into contact with the ground. When I use metallic color to make the paint looked scraped, I try to think of what direction the friction was applied in.
When I was working on the Gogg, I had the idea that it had went out into combat where it used its claws to rip apart an enemy, and then it came back to its hangar that had a pool that opened to the sea. Then that base was destroyed in a surprise attack, and the Gogg sat abandoned next to seawater for several years, rusting in the wet and salty air before being recovered by somebody.
Now that's more thought than I've put into any of my other efforts at weathering, so don't feel like you need to write a short story or anything. But this helped me decide what to do with the model. I dry brused the claws more than the rest to show that they had torn something apart. Then I went ham with the rust to simulate years of neglect.
Weathering was my gateway into doing custom stuff with gunpla and I'd definitely recommend it! I try not to be too strict about following techniques I see online. I think every tutorial that has given me great ideas has also included things I wouldn't want to do myself.
Sorry that I took a while to respond! Your message was so nice and I wanted to make sure I answered your questions as well as I could. I hope this was helpful and I'm glad to answer any follow ups!

See, but the thing is, bone is not subject to grains of sugar and bacteria on the daily. In fact, teeth coat themselves in a layer of enamel (apatite) every day. In fact, anthropologists will use hominid teeth to estimate the age of a skeleton due to this very trait. So teeth can also be like "With time I will heal myself" except every day it's living in a hostile environment where foreign sugars and desperate bacteria are trying to invade and destroy.
It's also a secondary reason to brush your teeth at least once a day, preferably twice.
Teeth weak as fuck why can't you be like bones

10 Common Dental Habits That Are Secretly Destroying Your Teeth
Tumblr media
You brush twice a day, floss regularly, and even rinse with mouthwash — so your teeth must be in great shape, right? Not always. Some everyday habits you barely notice could be quietly damaging your smile.
From That Innocent Ice Crunch to Overenthusiastic Brushing, Here Are Ten Common Dental Habits That Might be Doing More Harm Than Good.
1. Brushing Too Hard While brushing is essential, applying excessive pressure can wear down enamel and irritate gums. Over time, this can lead to sensitivity and gum recession. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle, circular motions can effectively clean teeth without causing damage.
2. Using Teeth as Tools Using your teeth to open packages or hold objects may be tempting, but it can result in chips, cracks, or even fractures. Teeth are designed for chewing food, not for tasks better suited to scissors or bottle openers.
3. Chewing Ice Crunching on ice may seem harmless, but the hardness and cold temperature can cause microscopic cracks in enamel, leading to larger fractures over time. This habit can also damage fillings and other dental work.
4. Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) Teeth grinding or clenching especially during sleep can wear down the tooth enamel, and cause chips and cracks in the teeth. This increases tooth sensitivity, and causes jaw pain. Stress is a common trigger, and wearing an occlusal splint (a night guard) at night can help protect teeth.
5. Frequent Snacking Constant snacking, especially on sugary or acidic foods, provides a continual food source for bacteria, leading to plaque buildup and cavities. Reducing snacking and opting for healthier choices can support better oral health.
6. Constantly Sipping on Acidic Beverages Many people sip on soda, fruit juices, or sports drinks throughout the day without realizing their high acid content can gradually erode tooth enamel. Even healthier” drinks like lemon water can be damaging if consumed frequently. Try using a straw to minimize contact with your teeth, and rinse your mouth with water afterward to neutralize acids.
7. Not Cleaning Your Tongue Neglecting to clean your tongue can lead to a buildup of bacteria, which contributes to bad breath and even plaque on your teeth. A tongue scraper or the back of your toothbrush can effectively remove debris and bacteria, promoting fresher breath and better overall oral hygiene.
8. Smoking and Tobacco Use Tobacco use stains teeth, contributes to bad breath, and significantly increases the risk of gum disease and oral cancer. It also delays healing after dental procedures. Quitting tobacco products can drastically improve both your oral and overall health.
9. Ignoring Signs of Dental Problems Toothaches, bleeding gums, sensitivity to hot or cold, and persistent bad breath are not normal; they’re your mouth’s way of signaling a problem. Ignoring these signs can lead to more serious conditions like infections, abscesses, or advanced gum disease. Early intervention is key. If something feels off, don’t wait.
10. Skipping Dental Visits Even with impeccable at-home care, avoiding regular dental check-ups can allow hidden issues to progress unnoticed. Tooth decay, gum infections, and even oral cancer can progress quietly without noticeable symptoms. Routine visits to your dentist help catch problems early and maintain optimal oral health through professional cleaning and assessments.
Your Smile Deserves More Than Just Brushing
Dental care goes beyond just brushing and flossing. By being aware of harmful habits and making proactive choices, you can protect your smile for the long run. Whether it’s refining your brushing technique or being more conscious of what you eat and drink, small changes can have a big impact. At Gentle & Caring Dentistry, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Book your appointment today and let our friendly team help you keep your smile strong, bright, and healthy.

This Common Drink Might Be Destroying Your Enamel
We all enjoy a chilled soda or citrusy juice, but what if your favorite drink is quietly ruining your smile? Acidic beverages are one of the most common culprits behind enamel erosion—and once it’s gone, it doesn’t grow back. This is why more people are turning to a trusted dental specialist in Dhaka to prevent permanent damage.
How Acidic Drinks Harm Your Teeth
Soft drinks, citrus juices, energy drinks—even flavored water—often contain acids that wear down the tooth’s protective layer. Over time, this causes sensitivity, discoloration, and cavities. A qualified dentist in Dhaka can help identify early signs of enamel erosion before it leads to more complex dental problems.
When enamel loss becomes severe, some patients may require help from the best oral and maxillofacial surgeon for corrective procedures like crowns or veneers.
Cosmetic Concerns: Whitening vs. Protection
People often turn to teeth whitening after seeing yellowed or stained teeth caused by acidic drinks. While whitening can improve appearance, protecting the enamel should always come first. A well-equipped dental clinic in Dhaka can offer both cosmetic and restorative treatments tailored to your condition.
Sometimes enamel loss affects not only aesthetics but also structure. In such cases, consulting an experienced oral and maxillofacial doctor ensures that your function and facial profile are preserved.
When You Need More Than Just a Check-Up
If your enamel has thinned out or cracked, it might be time to visit the best oral surgeon. These professionals handle advanced procedures like bone grafting, tooth replacement, and jaw correction that a general dentist may not perform.
For everyday dental needs or complex treatments, searching for the best dental clinic near me ensures you’ll receive holistic care under one roof.
Where to Find Expert Help
Many residents recommend the best dentist in Dhaka for their ability to catch issues early and offer modern treatment options. Whether you’re seeking enamel protection, fillings, or advice on diet, it all starts with the right expert.
Those in the Dhanmondi area frequently turn to the best dentist in Dhanmondi for their specialized services and personalized care.
Even if you’re new in town, locating a trusted dentist in Dhaka Bangladesh isn’t hard thanks to online reviews and detailed clinic websites.
And for severe cases where enamel loss leads to structural damage, the best maxillofacial surgeon may be your best bet for surgical restoration.
Final Thoughts
What you drink daily could be silently wearing away your teeth. While that citrus soda may taste refreshing, it’s often the start of a long-term dental problem. The good news? With early action, proper guidance, and care from the right professionals, you can prevent damage and preserve your smile for years to come.

i was gonna put additions in the tags but i hit 30 and tumblr stopped me. so
hi. i am a certified dental assistant in the state of florida! all of this is accurate, and well simplified.
things that caught my attention tho (and stuff i just wanna mention, i also like teeth and talking abt teeth):
you have multiple periodontal ligament fibers what hold your teeth in place, not just the big one. they are tiny little fibers that attach to the tooth and the bone. they can be bruised by biting down too hard, aggravated by night grinding, and destroyed by severe gingivitis that is in the process of becoming periodontitis. some periodontal tissues can grow back, but things like periodontal bone loss are essentially irreversible. that is the main reason you want to avoid gingivitis- besides the fact that its active infection and it hurts!
water flossers and electric toothbrushes are expensive, but oh my god are they fucking incredible at keeping your teeth clean with far less wrist movement. if you have chronic pain (like me!) or you get fatigued easily, getting the pair of them means you do not have to put as much physical effort into flossing or brushing, which may be worth the cost for you. i know this is not financially an option for everyone, but i want to really call attention to the fact that they are great for avoiding fatigue.
a water flosser is a point-and-click between your teeth- that simple! and it works as well as regular floss (at the base of your teeth, not where they make contact) on the higher settings! just make sure to flush and clean the water lines in the unit.
an electric toothbrush handles most of the mechanical removal of biofilm for you! you still have to angle the brush head towards the gums, then follow the curves of the tooth and sweep away from the gumline, but there are far fewer circular motions required. the handles of electric toothbrushes are also larger and heavier, making them easier to grip. they are so effective, hygienists can usually tell when a patient has started using them!
staining! not gonna get into intrinsic stains, but extrinsic stains are stains that are removable by brushing (rarely) polishing (more likely) or whitening (more on that in a bit). they are caused by what was mentioned above- acids and tannins together are not friends to your enamel (or the stuff underneath...)
baking soda is known to whiten teeth because it is an extremely good abrasive. it is not techically an anti-bacterial cleaning agent in the ways that certain toothpastes are, it is an abrasive. when you use it, you are essentially using sandpaper on your teeth to grind off biofilm as well as the staining. this can remove layers of enamel if used too often. use it if you see light yellow/tan staining, and then back off of it after a week or two. make sure to use fluoridated toothpaste as well to try and offset damage.
whitening. get it if you want, really. its unnecessary, but you might like the look.
the simplified version of the process of whitening- your teeth are porous. whitening agents penetrate enamel, then work their way down into dentinal tubules (channels that run from the soft inner dentin to the enamel cap), scouring them clean- which removes whatever staining may have been showing through the enamel that came from stuff in the tubules.
the major problem with this isnt that it messes with the enamel- it does, but it can be remineralized if cared for properly- the issue is the unblocking of the tubules. this, technically, doesnt hurt the tooth too bad... but it does allow much more sensation- in particular, thermal sensation- to travel through the unblocked tubules.
This Can Hurt Like All Fucking Hell, because, as said above, the nerves in teeth are super chatty. also- dont whiten your teeth repeatedly. ivory, yellow, and yes, even darker orange-tan-browns sometimes, are normal tooth colors. celebrities dont even whiten their teeth, if that's who you try to emulate- they get veneers. you can not compete with veneers by whitening- no one can. even teeth with more naturally opaque "white" enamel are going to be light ivory.
dont get veneers unless theyre to close up a gap in your teeth by the way. its unnecessary, removes tooth structure you cant get back, and theyre so delicate they'll likely need to be replaced in 10 years. im all for body modification though, so if you really want them, go ahead- just know that they are usually more of a body mod than something with medical use.
back to whitening- there are toothpastes that can reblock dentinal tubules after whitening! sensodyne toothpastes should have potassium nitrate and stannous fluoride, which partially block nervous signals, and form crystals along the tubules, closing them up over the course of a few weeks of use (usually 2).
any toothpaste with those ingredients should help with sensitivity by the way, not just sensodyne. if you stop using toothpastes with those ingredients, though, the anti-sensitivity action will eventually wear off as the blocks degrade. if you are experiencing noticeable and "sharp" sensitivity to sweets as well as thermal sensitivity after using a toothpaste like this for over two weeks, there may be an underlying issue, and you should bring it up to your dentist.
get cavities treated as soon as possible. they are expensive, yes- but getting a root canal is even more so. untreated cavities will eventually penetrate the soft, porous, easily infected dentin, which leads directly to the pulp of the tooth. when the pulp is infected, it can cause an abscess- which, as mentioned, can kill you, and is also exceptionally painful. the only treatment at that point is a root canal (or an extraction, but thats something that no one wants to have to do because of the bone loss that entails), since the pulp of the tooth is either very infected, dead, or partially both. cavities are not issues to be ignored. they are active infections. talk with your dentist about payment plans- if theyre a private practice, you can usually negotiate paying over a period of time (though some offices are shitty about that). even corporate offices sometimes have planning options- your mileage will vary there.
anyways thats been me being way too passionate about teeth for five miles of dashboard. sorry but i paid 7k for my classes and im making that everyone else's problem
STUFF NOBODY EVER TOLD YOU ABOUT TEETH (and how to take care of them if you are poor and/or depressed)
Contrary to what the US health industry would have you believe, your teeth are NOT luxury face bones. You need them. Healthy teeth are a cornerstone of good health in general for a lot of reasons. You can’t eat well without them. You need them to speak. And tooth bias is real.
This makes me very sad because I love teeth. I am not a dentist. I’m a biological anthropologist whose expertise is oral disease and the evolutionary anatomy of teeth. My dad’s an oral surgeon and I worked in his office from the tender and illegal age of 8 to the ripe old age of 18, which is when I went to college. At 12, I was assisting with the disposal of biowaste, aka packaging up the teeth to send them to dental schools. I live, breathe, sleep, and occasionally eat teeth. I found a human incisor on my floor this morning and wasn’t even surprised. I study how teeth go bad partly so that I can help living people protect the teeth they’ve got. It’s my goal with this post to teach you about a couple of different types of procedures and oral injuries, as well as what you can do to help keep your teeth functional. So in this post, what I am going to do is outline a few common things that can go wrong with your teeth, how they happen, and how to catch them before they get bad. A lot of the advice in this post is for people who maybe can’t get to the dentist for a cleaning and checkup every six months. This post is also gonna be LONG AS HELL and there is going to be a separate post called “luxury face bone hacks for the busy/broke/b’mentally ill” or something like that, so like. If you don’t like super long posts, just hit this one with a like and actually read through that one.
First, let’s talk about dental anatomy.
What Are Teeth?
Teeth are extremely cool. They’re these amazing little packages of dentin pulp, protected by enamel, nestled into the jaw like truffles in a box of chocolates, held in place with a teeny tiny ligament. They’re gorgeous– enamel is a beautiful substance, translucent and opalescent. Teeth are also extremely weird when you think about them. You have these weird not-bone things emerging from holes in your jawbones. They’re snapped into place with a biological bunjy cord and you can actually SPRAIN THEM if you put too much pressure on them.
Here are some important things to know about teeth!
First, the nerves in your teeth were never meant to be exposed to the air. They only process stimulus one way: pain. This means that when you get a cavity or do anything else that exposes the nerve, it is going to hurt like a bitch.
Your teeth may come loose! Usually they stay put and go back to normal in a day or two. Don’t panic. This is usually the result of you spraining your dental ligament that holds the tooth in place.
Root canals suck but they can prevent dental abscesses. Dental abscesses can kill you. If they spread and get into your sinuses, they can cross the blood/brain barrier and you will die. This doesn’t happen much any more, but in rare cases… it can.
The phrase “like pulling teeth” is a misnomer. Pulling teeth is extremely easy if you know what you’re doing. Extractions are usually a very simple procedure. What’s complicated is things like root canals and setting up implants, which, in the case of implants is the literal opposite of pulling teeth.
Pregnancy will fuck up your teeth because a.) the fetus is leaching your vital essence and other nutrients and b.) your hormones are telling a lot of ligaments in your body to loosen up to get ready to give birth. Sometimes wires get crossed and other ligaments at non-mobile joints get the loosen up message, too. Just be sure to keep up your dental hygiene regimen during pregnancy and you’ll be fine.
Your gum tissue isn’t just weird wet skin. It’s a mucous membrane that protects the mouth. It can get diseased and inflamed, so pay attention to it! Also, there’s a lot of blood vessels so if you poke yourself with something, you’ll bleed like a stuck pig for a minute. The kind of bleeding you should be worried about is prolonged bleeding, where you see blood welling up around your teeth for no apparent reason.
Now that you’ve been equipped with some fun facts, lets talk about diseases and procedures.
Braces: if you’re reading this, you probably don’t need them
First: Pediatric orthodontia is largely a scam. People who put standard braces on their child before that child has lost all of their baby teeth are stupid and causing their child needless pain because those teeth are going to fall out anyways and the alignment of the adult teeth was decided long, long ago. The kids who NEED orthodontic intervention are kids with bad crossbites/underbites/overbites. This requires specialized headgear most of the time and is more intense than the standard braces because they are made to solve a much bigger problem. The standard bracket-and-wire braces? Don’t put those on a child. They won’t help. Also, your kid doesn’t have their third molars yet, and those are the molars most likely to come in twisted anyways.
As an adult, you may want braces for cosmetic reasons or for comfort reasons. This is a CHOICE that is YOURS TO MAKE. If your dentist suggests you need braces, ask why. You don’t have to get them. Now,If you have certain kinds of dental overlap- like, your lateral incisors have been pushed behind your frontals- then yeah, you should get braces. But is it the end of the world if you don’t get braces? No.
Wisdom tooth removal: you might not need it
The human jaw is in a state of evolutionary mismatch right now. Basically, our last molar, the third molar, doesn’t come in until we’re an adult. Unfortunately, thanks to ten thousand years of agriculture, give or take a few millennia, we have much more gracile jaws than our ancestors. There’s not always enough room for it. Now, this isn’t true for everyone, because no two skulls are identical and all, but sometimes there is a condition where you really should get those suckers out. If they are impacted, or coming in sideways, they can push your other teeth out of alignment and cause jaw issues down the line. If they come up straight, don’t worry about it.
Cavities: you need to get these taken care of
Cavities are a pain in the ass and are honestly the main reason you should go to the dentist for checkups, so that they can take the x-ray of your mouth and see how any potential trouble zones are progressing. You should call a dentist and seek help if you notice pain that persists over three days, as that’s an indicator of something more serious than just a sprain.
Tooth Grinding: this is a problem
If you grind your teeth, your dentist may recommend a night guard. Actually listen to them about this. Grinding your teeth can cause major jaw alignment problems that are a pain to fix, so just bite the silicone and suck it up. Also maybe talk to a therapist if you can, because grinding can be a result of stress/anxiety.
Whitening your teeth: bad idea
First off, your teeth ain’t supposed to be white. Enamel is not white. Enamel is translucent and pearlescent, so its actual color is very hard to pin down. Your teeth are naturally going to look more ivory-colored over time. That’s just part of being human and having teeth. Embrace it. You are a badass omnivore with thirty-two gorgeous enamel teeth. They weren’t put in your mouth to look pretty, they were put in your mouth to feed you.
Second: Whitening your teeth weakens your enamel. Once your enamel’s gone, it ain’t coming back, baby. There are some gentler whitening methods, like whitening toothpaste, but these are only going to give you about one to two shades worth of improvement. If you have extremely stained teeth and you want to whiten them, make sure you talk to your dentist about all the risks. Unfortunately, there is no truly safe and effective home-style (read: not a million gotdang dollars) remedy for whitening teeth.
There are a few that are kicking around, but seriously, some of them are dangerous. Do NOT rub wood ash on your teeth. That’s lye. Don’t put that in your mouth. Do NOT use actual bleach, hair dye developer, or non-dental peroxide gel. They are poisonous. DO NOT PUT ACETONE ON YOUR TEETH i have seen this exactly once and the person came into my dad’s office with chemical burns on their gums and lips. I do NOT want to see this again.
It is a misconception that brushing your teeth keeps them looking white. Brushing your teeth removes plaque and biofilm, but those buildups don’t actually stain the enamel itself. Instead, really the only way to keep your teeth looking light is to pay attention to what you’re putting in your mouth. If you’re a tobacco user, vape! Tar is a major staining agent. Coffee’s also a major stainer, and the big trick there is to put a little milk in it. See, enamel staining doesn’t come from the color of the food. It comes from chemical properties. Acidic foods stain because acid damages enamel. Food with high levels of tannins, like coffee or tea, stain because the tannins change the PH of the mouth. So what you should do to avoid staining is balance your mouth PH by eating something basic after eating something acidic. Add a lil milk to your coffee or tea to weaken its acidity just a bit. Swish with water afterwards to help clear the acid. Don’t eat lemons or any other acidic food after drinking coffee. Why would you want to eat lemons after drinking coffee, anyways? Seems like a weird flavor combo to me.
And while we’re on the subject…
MOUTH CHEMISTRY
What’s in your mouth? Your teeth, your gums, your tongue, your spit… yeah, your spit. Saliva’s important. It’s probably THE most important thing in protecting your teeth because salivary production constantly washes the teeth, clearing off as much bad bacteria as possible. If you have an issue with saliva production, you should drink as much water as you can throughout the day, and get a bottle of dry mouth tabs for nighttime. Or daytime, if they don’t bother you. This is really important because dry mouth is a major side effect for a lot of drugs, like anti-depressants. This is actually a huge part of my research- the population I study used a natural painkiller, but in the end its use caused them more pain because the way it works, it decreases the efficacy of the salivary glands. They stop making sufficient saliva, the teeth dry out, the mouth PH changes, and the bacteria that destroy enamel go buckwild. If you can’t make your own spit, store bought is fine. Water for the day, tabs for the night.
Now, you might think that ok, acid isn’t great, let’s eat more basic foods to balance that out. You can, but it… isn’t great. Your saliva is naturally acidic for a reason, and if you neutralize it completely, that ALSO messes with your teeth. You should be drinking plain water as much as possible.
Seltzer and Soda
Some people think seltzer may hurt your teeth, but it really won’t… unless it’s citrus-flavored. Reason: citrus seltzer uses citric acid as a flavoring agent, and that messes with your teeth. So if you want to drink citrus seltzer, drink it with a meal or with food. Don’t sip it slow over the day.
Soda, on the other hand is a goddamn nightmare. The acid’s kind of a problem but the sugar… dear god the sugar. So. your teeth are covered in a bacterial biofilm. Some of these bacteria excrete acid, and that’s what gives you cavities. This is another part of my research- looking at how cavity prevalence changes as sweetening agents and sugar availability changes. As different carbohydrates enter the diet, populations’ disease responses change. I know more about this than probably anybody else in the world, and here is what I know: the best thing you can do for your teeth is stop drinking American soda.
It’s the corn, you guys. The chemical compounds in corn make the cavity-causing bacteria kick into overdrive. Sodas sweetened with high fructose corn syrup create the perfect environment for these dudes to excrete out a storm. Sugary beverages in general promote cavities, but NOTHING does it like sodas sweetened with high fructose corn syrup or any other corn byproduct. Try to limit your soda and juice consumption and if you can, make sure that when you do have them, you’re getting some food, too.
Other Acids
Ok this next part is going to deal with eating disorders. I’m going to be talking about some of the side effects of bulimia, what they can do to your teeth, and how you can take care of them. Eating disorders are serious business and I hope if you need this section you are in supportive recovery and have the love and support and resources you need. If you don’t want to read about what this can do to your teeth, scroll real quick until you seen the big green text.
If your teeth are in frequent contact with stomach acid, acid etching can be a real problem. Your enamel is tough but stomach acid is gnarly, and your gums don’t have that same protection. If you find yourself vomiting frequently, for whatever reason, try to swish water around in your mouth afterwards to help clean it out. I know that’s not the thing that’s likely on your mind after that, but a lot of what we’re doing here is damage control. I’m not here to judge you in the slightest. I’m just here to help you with your teeth.
Do not brush your teeth immediately after vomiting. The enamel is weaker, and you can cause even more damage by brushing too hard. Wait for at least an hour until after you’ve rinsed your mouth to avoid spreading the acid around.
You can also add some (1-2 tsp) baking soda to the water you rinse with, if you feel ok with doing that. It will taste gross and salty but it will help neutralize the acid. You just rinse with this, you don’t swallow.
ok that part is over
TOOTH HACKS
This is the funnest part, I get to tell you good ways to take care of your teeth that require very few spoons and very little money!
Brush ‘em twice a day. Once when you get up to clear out whatever happened the night before, and once before you fall asleep. You can brush more but you don’t have to. Use a soft-bristled brush and whatever toothpaste you like. If you hate mint, kid toothpaste that tastes like bubblegum or berries is totally fine!
Don’t want to get out of bed? totally fine. Use a finger toothbrush! these are designed for babies which is actually great because they are SUPER soft. If you have sensitive gums, these are going to be really helpful.
Don’t have access to a finger toothbrush? honest to god you can just dip your finger in water (though a mix of water and baking soda or water and salt is better) and brush your teeth with just your finger. The point of this isn’t to freshen your breath or anything, it’s just to get the biofilm off of your teeth and protect them.
Floss. This gets the biofilm out from between your teeth and promotes good gum health. Don’t just run it between the teeth- you need to floss below the gumline a little bit to help clean out plaque.
If you don’t have the spoons to do your whole mouth, floss between your molars if you can.
There’s lots of products that are great for people who can’t go through the whole flossing routine. Pre-threaded flossers are ideal because they’re designed for minimal effort and maximum gain. These are also killer for people with physical disabilities that affect hand dexterity.
If flossing hurts because you have sensitive gums, a water flosser can really help. This is more expensive but will last a very long time.
You can also get topical numbing gel that you can smear on your gums when flossing. Just be careful that you’re not flossing too hard because you can’t feel it. This brand is kind of expensive but it has a nice minty flavor. If you have a dollar and a way to get there, I saw Orajel at Dollar Tree yesterday… when I was buying a bunch of those pre-threaded flossers to throw in my car. I oughta do a Dollar Tree field trip to show you like, what products are available at the absolute cheapest in the US. Dollar Tree has a LOT of good dental options.
There’s a tiktok that says you can use a strand of hair to floss. This is a bad idea. A single strand of hair is likely to break and can cut into your gums. If you want to use hair as floss, you need to use a couple of strands twisted together. Go slow and gentle if you’re using hair. Obviously actual floss is better but this isn’t “perfect dental tips for perfect people,” this is “life sucks but your teeth don’t gotta.”
If you can’t floss or can’t brush, gargle. Put two tsp of baking soda in a glass of warm water. Swish it around, spit it out. If you can do that, you’ve helped clear out biofilm and bacterial waste.
Prioritize your teeth. You only get two sets and you lose the first one by the time you’re twelve. If you can only do one hygiene thing today, make it be your teeth.
Eat some pineapple. Bromelain, which is only found in pineapple, is super good at protecting enamel.
That’s… all I got for you now. Take care of your teeth!

A Comprehensive Guide to Sensitive Tooth Care: Dr. Arun’s Care Dental Clinic
The dental problem of sensitive teeth affects people at all stages of life. The discomfort experiences may pass temporarily yet create substantial issues requiring proper medical intervention to prevent them. Dr. Arun’s Care Dental Clinic, a Dental clinic in Chennai offers tooth sensitivity remedies together with helpful guidance that supports prolonged oral health maintenance. This blog analyzes why teeth become sensitive as well as recommended preventive actions plus treatment options at our Chennai Dental Tourism Facility and other Dr. Arun’s Care Dental Clinic locations to support healthy teeth.
Understanding Sensitive Teeth
Tooth sensitivity exists when people experience temporary discomfort within their teeth because of contact with hot, cold, sweet or acidic food substances and beverage elements. The underlying dentin of the tooth becomes exposed so sensitivity develops. Due to containing tiny nerve endings dentin produces discomfort as well as pain after exposure to external factors.
The initial tooth layer named enamel acts as protection for the dentin within. The dentin beneath the enamel becomes exposed when poor oral hygiene actions aggressive brushing methods or other factors lead to enamel deterioration. Harmful reactions to external stimuli can occur when gum recession exposes tooth roots to the elements. Learning proper techniques to manage sensitive teeth will stop the condition from becoming a long-term issue.
Causes of Tooth Sensitivity
1.         Enamel erosion functions as the leading cause that produces sensitive teeth. Regular brushing that is too forceful combined with acidic foods as well as teeth grinding causes damage to enamel that leaves dentin open to the mouth.
2.         The advent of gum recession reveals the vulnerable tooth roots since these areas do not possess enamel protection while simultaneously increasing their sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures.
3.         Tooth decay can cause tooth sensitivity when decay advances enough to expose dentin layers and it leads to experiencing pain while also causing swelling.
4.         Assessing the Sensitivity of Cracked or Fractured Teeth Becomes Important since These Cavities Allow Dentin Exposure Leading to Uncomfortable Chewing on Hot or Cold Drinks.
5.         Some dental procedures including fillings crowns and teeth bleaching treatments trigger short-term sensitivity yet this discomfort resolves itself within a few days.
6.         Teeth grinding as a result of bruxism damages enamel enough to create sensitivity in teeth.
7.         Eating acidic foods together with drinking acidic beverages such as citrus fruits and tomatoes and carbonated drinks tends to wear away enamel while also creating tooth sensitivity.
8.         Sticky bacterial plaque develops as an unwanted substance on tooth surfaces. Leftover plaque causes tissue damage that results in gum disease and sensitivity.
How to Care for Sensitive Teeth
Here are some simple and effective tips to manage and prevent tooth sensitivity.
1.Choose the Right Toothpaste
Choose a toothpaste that targets sensitivity in teeth because of its specialized ingredients. Potassium nitrate along with strontium chloride exists in this toothpaste to prevent nerve signalling between the tooth surface and the brain which reduces sensitivity.
Our Dentist in Chennai at Dr Arun’s Care Dental Clinic suggests using fluoride toothpaste as your daily brushing option. The protective element of fluoride strengthens teeth in combination with its ability to defend against sensitivities.
2.Use a Soft-Bristled Toothbrush
Excessive brushing pressure of hard bristled toothbrushes diminishes tooth enamel which leads to increased sensitivity. You should select a soft-bristled toothbrush when brushing to circle the motion slowly for enamel and gum protection.
3. Avoid Acidic Foods and Beverages
Acidic food items destroy tooth enamel through a degradation process. The consumption of citrus fruits with carbonated drinks and acidic condiments should always be approached with caution. Drink acidic substances with water afterwards to balance their acidity level in your mouth.
4. Wear a Protective Mouthguard to Prevent Tooth Grinding
A custom-made mouthguard from Dental Clinic in Chennai at  Dr Arun’s Care Dental Clinic will protect your teeth if you have a night-time teeth-grinding habit. The use of mouthguards stops enamel deterioration and prevents tooth cracks which ultimately results in sensitivity issues. Our dental clinic in Chennai provides customized mouthguards to bruxism patients since they serve as prevention against additional tooth injuries.
5.         Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Tooth sensitivity prevention needs daily practice of proper brushing techniques and flossing habits. Using fluoride toothpaste while brushing your teeth twice daily alongside daily flossing will protect your gum health and stop the progression of gum recession.
6. Avoid Over-Whitening Your Teeth
A high amount of whitening treatments on teeth leads to enamel destruction and enhances tooth sensitivity. Consult with your dentist to determine the proper use of whitening products if you are thinking about teeth whitening treatments.
Our Dental Clinic in Chennai delivers effective teeth whitening treatments that ensure safe procedures resulting in smile enhancement without sensitivity issues.
7. Protect Your Teeth from Trauma
External trauma from accidents along with injuries frequently result in damaged teeth which subsequently produce sensitive teeth. Athletes and participants in activities where mouth injuries are possible should use mouth protectors.
8. Regular Dental Check-ups
The diagnosis and treatment of tooth sensitivity depend heavily on your regular visits to the dentist. The therapy from professional cleaning allows the identification of gum health and teeth health, while the dentist evaluates the state of your teeth. Consult your dentist about painful sensations because they will provide recommended custom treatment options.
Dr. Arun’s Care Dental Clinic operates a Dental Clinic in Anna Nagar East, Dental Clinic in Thirumangalam and Dental Clinic in Korattur which provides thorough dental care and sensitive teeth treatments.
Treatments for Sensitive Teeth
Several medical approaches exist to treat persistent cases of tooth sensitivity.
1.         Stray from sensitivity by receiving professional fluoride applications that strengthen tooth enamel through mineral replacement. Your dentist will use fluoride varnish or gel to protect your dentin while strengthening your enamel.
2.         The dentist will apply desensitizing agents directly to the problem areas for additional protection. The dentin tubules become blocked through the application of these desensitizing agents which lower sensitivity.
3.         Gum Grafting serves as an appropriate treatment for sensitivity issues when gum recession has led to your condition. Dental professionals extract oral tissue from one area to place over exposed tooth roots to deliver sensitivity reduction.
4.         Activating teeth with damage gets protected through dental bonding procedures which repair these teeth while stopping additional sensitivity. The affected dental section receives treatment through the application of tooth-colored resin solution which restores both the form and functionality of the tooth.
5.         Following severe sensitivities along with nerve damage detrimental enough to affect the tooth root it requires root canal treatment. The medical procedure extracts broken tissue from within teeth which helps stop pain and sensitivity from developing.
Our Dentist in Chennai provides custom-sensitive teeth treatments through their experienced staff who focus on delivering effective solutions to patients.
