IT CONTINUES. After an incredibly delightful couple of hours of explaining the character arcs in Fantasy High, partner in crime @seekingcylem and I did the most timely thing to do in 2024: assign them all Classpects. This was a lot of thinking, rotating the blorbos in my head and going over analysis a decade old RE: Homestuck theory and boy was it fun. I'll spare you all the details unless anyone wants to read it. The long and short of it is:

Hello recent amc iwtv watcher here I was wondering did Louis and Lestat call Claudia their daughter in the books? Also does Armand ever talk about Claudia in the books? Does he ever regret killing her?

hey sorry i'm just seeing this ask now, but if you're still wondering, yes, both lestat and louis refer to claudia as their daughter in the novels.

lestat frames the relationship as familial as soon as claudia is turned referring to her as him and louis' daughter and is consistent in this characterization of the relationship.

In another earlier passage he also refers himself as claudia's mother, or at least frames his want to create a young vampire as maternal:

louis also refers to claudia as his daughter and takes on a parental role in her life; however their relationship is somewhat more complicated and frankly very freudian:

as for armand, he doesn;t say a whole lot about claudia after her death, but the few words he has are interesting. in interview with the vampire he does not show remorse for her death, viewing it simply as something for louis to get past so that the two of them could grow closer to each other, and is largely frustrated by louis' prolonged mourning.

however, he discusses claudia's death again in the vampire armand. while he still discusses her death largely in the context of him and louis relationship, he simultaneously expresses more guilt (or at least the feeling of being haunted by her) than previously while also seemingly taking less responsibility for the actual execution than previously:

in this recounting of her death armand also claims to have preformed a rather horrific medical experiment on claudia before her execution:

whether this experiment actually took place or armand made this up it is interesting. to me this conveys that armand's cruelty towards claudia was at least in part born out of an identification with her, with them both being turned so young. he talks about his own body with a deep uncomfortably throughout this book, and here seems to be a perverse enaction of his own fantasy that can never be achieved of being allowed to physically mature as a vampire. in the books while he quite callously arranges for claudia's death for the sake of isolating louis for himself and expresses minimal guilt during and at the end him and louis' 70 years together, further reflection several decades later reveals that he perhaps cared for claudia in some way even if based in self projection on to her.
