sometimes i kind of really hate that i like to be tickled (and by sometimes i mean all the time). it feels so embarrassing and stupid for some reason. it makes no sense because if anyone else were to tell me they enjoyed it, it would be totally fine. i just find myself weird for it i guess.

i think it’s also kind of a fear thing? like what if i tell people and they just agree that im weird? what if i tell people and they only tkl me because they feel they’re required to? what if i never find people that also think it’s fun?

I feel the need to periodically remind people that Idiocracy is a eugenics movie.

One of the things that eugenicists believe is that it is bad for society when the “wrong people” breed.

The entire premise of the movie is that “stupid people” kept having kids while “smart people” didn’t have kids, and it ruined society because stupid genes propagated while smart genes died out. This is eugenics propaganda.

I know people will read this and their response will be “actually it’s satire” but the movie isn’t satirizing eugenics. It’s satirizing anti-intellectualism, and consumerism, and it proposes eugenics as a solution.

When eugenics was first conceived, it was used as a way to justify inequality. The idea was that people who held privilege were able to do so because they were smarter and genetically superior to lazy and stupid people who don’t have privilege. Obviously this is bad and wrong, but it is also the core lesson of Idiocracy.

The movie literally ends with the main character becoming president and having “the smartest children in the world.” Because he and his wife have smarter genes than everyone else. The proposed solution for the things that Idiocracy is satirizing is for the smart people to have children that can be in charge of the world.

I know it’s fun to use this movie to dunk on anti-intellectualism and the MAGA movement, but we need to stop. When you quote and reference this movie you are spreading eugenics propaganda.

like the people in ghost city seem to genuinely like him. he's known to provide protection to ghosts being hunted by cultivators. he literally *ripped out his eye* to protect a group of random humans. he's not an evil demon king with a soft spot for this one guy. he is genuinely kind to people who aren't Xie Lian sometimes, especially people who exist outside heaven's sphere of "respectability" ie ghosts.

is he rude and abrasive? yes, but there is a difference between being nice and being kind. are his morals dubious? yes, but so is heaven; hua cheng just doesn't try to hide it. you and me both, Idia and Lilia being oblivious online BFFs (+ Idia being incredibly intimidated any time Silver brings up his jock gamer dad) is my favorite running joke/subplot. 🤝 it's SO good, to the point where I also am unsure if I actually want it to ever be resolved or not...maybe, like, as a post-canon stinger or something? everyone's standing around covered in overblot ink, and Idia and Lilia's phones go off at the same time...

(legit I do think this is part of why Idia couldn't be present for Lilia's dream, because for some reason Lilia decided he was going to just. embody his past self online. he probably quotes his own battle strategies or whatever in the middle of boss fights. Idia didn't pick up on the whole "oh how weird that we both live on a super remote island" thing, but he would spend thirty seconds listening to General Lilia describing siege warfare and be like "w-wait")

all that aside, however it does end up happening, I do see Lilia being very blasé and all "oh! cool!" about it. y'know, taking it very much in stride! and Idia...very much not.

as for Lilia sadly missing out on Halloweentown shenanigans...he does get one little mention as part of an offhand reference to the light music club, but so far no one has brought up how this basically is just Lost In the Book of Liliatown (Sebek's been too busy yelling about not getting to be in the same group as Malleus). 😔 honestly though, it's probably for the best that he got left out, because he would just settle right in and refuse to ever leave. canon would shatter. we would miss out on all the delightful angst of episode 7 because Lilia is too busy eating poisonous shrubbery inbetween practicing his very best screams, and no one can pull him away from it.

One of my favorite things in GF fics is when Stan throws something Ford has said/ written about him in his face.

Like, for example, some time during their travels Stan somehow reveals that this whole time he's had this creeping thought that Ford only wants him around out of guilt or obligation. I have been feeling increasingly gaslit by how many words my spellchecker/autocomplete seems to no longer recognize. Even when I manage to spell the word correctly, it's as if it doesn't exist. All very strange - I've had to check the dictionary again as if it's 1999. But, no, the words are there!

I'm guessing AI nonsense has crept into spellcheck. Need to start a list of the words it believes are figments of my imagination. "Capitulated" was one earlier.

I'm a man with a bad short-term memory + a speech impediment where I often say the wrong word without realizing it, and having to triple check what I write to scan for hallucinations is doing a number on my brain. Text *used* to be where I could achieve communication fluency easily.

Just... entire swathes of vocabulary, no longer recognized! It's infuriating as someone who gets flustered by imprecise language, and now doubly so when his technology implies the words he's depended on are not real!
