Unnecessarily lengthy ramble abt losing interest and moving on with a new acc + last few bot/fic ideas I might post (feel free to ignore idkidk)

I’ve been having a hectic week regarding academic stuff so I have the worst brain fog rn, and I have a feeling I should unwind a couple more days before writing this but I honestly don’t care atp 😭😭

Basically, as you can see with the title, I’m losing interest in AHS, evan peters, his characters - all that. Besides Colin Zabel (he’s still my husband fr), creating content for everything else feels like a real chore now, whilst back then it was truly enjoyable and exciting.

Don’t get me wrong, I love writing and making bots, like this stuff is basically for life lol. But nowadays, it feels like I’m simply utilizing the evans as tools to write out the tropes I enjoy, rather than actually experiencing a desire to write FOR the characters like I used to ((which still can be gratifying in its own respective way… until a certain motivating factor begins to lack, if that makes sense??

It really sucks cuz I chalked it up to me being burned out, when in reality my attraction was clearly just plummeting as we speak 😔. What’s worse is that I’m really comfortable in this fandom - like I have super cool moots here, there’s no drama, there’s a bunch of evan characters for everybody 😂, and I gained over 500 followers, which is still crazy to me! I tried to “prolong” my interest for the sake of all this progress, but I think the inevitable has arrived and I can no longer keep up, my resolve is crumbling y’all 😭😭😭

I was hoping to wait until the Tron movie comes out in 2025, cuz maybe seeing Evan in there would reignite some of ✨la passion✨ within me, however I don’t feel like hanging around anymore, since I no longer relate to the fandom. I feel so out of place now, like a fRaUD 😩 ((I’ll still most likely watch it, but until then we’ll see

Hi, I read your post about Messmer & the hornsent crusade, and I found it really intriguing but I also disagreed on some of your points, however I'm not sure if I just didn't understand them or I misunderstood, so I thought I'd ask about it.

To preface, I mean no disrespect or hostility to you or your opinion, I'm just curious about some of the things you brought up in your post & I'd like to just understand them better. If I come off in an aggressive or confrontational manner I apologize, this is not a hate ask, I'm not great with tone in through text.

you mention in your post ppl in the fandom talking about how they like Messmer, but feel the need to justify why, or try to find excuses for simply liking a character. On those points I do agree completely, I think it's a Little ridiculous to do mental gymnastics to 'excuse' simply liking a souls character even though 99% of them are very morally grey. What I don't understand is your next point though, you say Messmer's past does excuse the crusade.

The post makes it seems as if the hornsents are one big monolith, who all participated in the torture & genocide of the shamans, despite them being a massive civilization and the greater potentates being the ones who specialize in, and practice the jar stuffing. From what I understood from the post, you believe that the hornsent as a collective, deserved to be genocided because of what happened to Marika's village.

You also say in the beginning of the post, that you like darker themes in Fromsoft stories like death and suffering, that the characters do terrible things but that we like regardless because we understand or sympathize with their reasoning, why they do it.

So what I didn't understand abt your post was this: Why bring up how Fromsoft characters are capable of terrible things, but we like them Bc we understand WHY they do those things, if you think the crusade was completely justified?

Following that logic, that the Hornsents all deserved to suffer and die, that wouldn't make Messmer a character capable of great evil, because then that just makes the crusade him enacting justice for his & his mother's people and it wouldn't be a morally wrong action.

That's why I wanted to clarify if I grossly misunderstood your points on my end. but If I didn't misunderstand I want to know why you think the Hornsent deserved to be purged completely. To me, It's not like the entire people all committed crimes to the shamans. If Messmer wanted to prevent/protect more shamans being jared, (assuming they weren't all dead) He wouldn't need to destroy their entire civilization & kill them all. he would just need to go after the potentates, places like bonny village & whipping hut etc. He and Marika are literally Gods who command multiple armies so I'm sure it was possible.

I just don't see how the Hornsent are all collectively responsible for the shamans being murdered when there was a entire village whose sole purpose was torturing shamans. Assuming that the shamans are indeed all dead, and Marika (understandably) wanted revenge then why not go after the ppl who actually committed the crimes in the first place? There's characters like Romina, who you can see in the trailer her church being burned down while she cradles her pole blade or something, getting caught in the cross-hair of the crusade but how is she & others like her, deserving of Messmer & Marikas extermination?

Basically how is Messmer excused for the crusade, when it didn't even target the ones responsible & only continued the cycle of violence by committing the same atrocities that happened to Marika's people. I see your point about ppl trying to be '' all-forgiving '' and virtuous over fictional characters but I don't think it's abt ''forgiving'' or anything, the way I saw it the story was conveying how the Hornsent weren't the 'good guys' or entirely innocent whilst still showing the tragedy of the crusade, bc it was still wrong to wipe an entire race out of existence for the actions some of it's members committed.

Again, I truly don't mean any animosity to you by sending this ask. I know fandom discourse can often be utterly vitriolic and I'm not tryna contribute by being disrespectful to you over a post. I merely wanted to understand your points that I was worried I misinterpreted. Even if I didn't I still respect your opinion. You’ve noticed a lot of details, you know the lore of the game pretty well, I am not to question it, and in a way this is the problem. This post is not about the lore and the characters, but about point of view and the language we’re speaking.

What I actually wanted to say with this post is that it’s pretty easy to be forgiving when you are not in rage. When you are not in rage, when you don’t see death, when you are not in fear for the ones you love and/or for the people of your kind, it’s easy to say “they are not monolith”, “their culture”, “not all of them”. In this peaceful state of mind, when you see only the story on the screen, it’s easy to notice those details and play with words.

But when your point of view and your state of mind due to the situation you are in changes, you are not capable of this anymore. When you fear, when you are in rage, when you see mutilation right before your eyes for months and years, it changes you to the core. You are simply _not_able_ to forgive, you are not able to differ your enemies. There is nothing like “culture”, “not all of them” and so on. When you see one of their kind, you see “one of their kind”. Not “someone”. People, - no, creatures, - who are a threat to you, who have already brought you sufferings, are not humans anymore. It’s easy to recall their humanity in the back of your mind when you don’t have memories of them slaying people right around you with joy. But once you’ve seen something like that, there is no way back. You will never see all the things you are talking about now, they will never matter anymore, and the enemy will never gain humanity in your eyes. When you understand that someone wants to slain you just because you are you, and when you see them actually doing it with the people of your kind, on the streets you are walking, you don’t want to ask questions and discuss their culture. You want to kill them all just in order to stop it. That’s how this puzzle looks from another point of view.

Returning to your question, are right in a way, but you are speaking in the language of peace. Most of people here, on Tumblr, I believe, have never seen war and terrorism knocking at their doors. And what I wanted to say with this post is that the language of peace is a privilege of peaceful times. When war comes, you forget it once and forever, because now you live in the new reality, and in this reality language of peace becomes total cringe.

I am speaking in the language of war, rage and vengeance.

I expected this fandom (since all dark things and so on are okay for people here) understand it perfectly, but now I see that they don’t. They’re speaking about war in the language of peace because peace is their reality, and seems like they can’t even imagine another one.

Been seeing this over and over and it's sort of been annoying me but. Valentino and Alastor are not even remotely comparable. Like. Look I may be a bit biased bc I like Alastor and don't like Valentino beyond the funny moments he has but like.

Okay. Alastor sucks. Like he's a violent dickhead but part of that is that he's very restrained in his violence. The only times we see him do anything outright violent are when he/the hotel are under attack and then his one moment with Husk. His relationship with Husk gets brought up a lot when people make the comparison but to me like.

Throughout the show you see Husk talk shit to Alastor, literally all of the time. He heavily dislikes him (in my opinion a major part of that is bitterness over losing his own title just to become subservient to Al) but he doesn't ever really seem scared of him, beyond the one moment. He and Alastor have known eachother for years and it's pretty clear to me that Alastor sort of just. Let's him say whatever as long as he doesn't hit A Limit. Alastor's own contract is something he's very clearly sensitive about and Husk bringing that up when he was already in a bad mood. I'm not saying the way he treats Husk in this scene is good, or right but just that it makes sense in context.

I guess what really does it for me is Niffty as well? Like it's so clear she loves Al, quite literally crawling all over him and crowning him. They have a very sweet relationship in the show. She's comfortable enough with him to freely speak about her own feelings ("I really like them Alastor. They let me put on roach puppet shows without booing")

You just get the sense that like. Alastors relationship with his contractee's is. Maybe not the most outright friendly but it's not inherently violent.

And then you compare that to Valentino. Valentino is violent, but worse he's impulsive. And also kind of an idiot. Like the first time we see him it's Velvette calling Vox to come deal with him bc the man is on a rampage and killing her models. He has to be talked down from going to the hotel and killing everyone there. (Already a bad idea image wise but like. With the literal Princess of Hell in that hotel it's like. What was your plan for after that Val. What was your plan for after you attacked the only heir to the throne, the literal daughter of the devil. Christ.)

The difference here is that the only contractee we see him interact with is Angel Dust, and their relationship is fraught with abuse. Physical, sexual, and psychological. Valentino enables his drug addiction because it makes Angel more compliant. Even when he is not being violent towards Angel himself, he's still perpetuating that violence through the work he has Angel do (literally the everything about Poison makes me kind of sick to watch. Tbh, like great song but i cannot watch the mv without getting kind of upset. And look there's a conversation in there about sex work, and specifically SAFE sex work but that's not really what this post is.)

Like. There's literally a line in the show about Angel being WATERBOARDED at work. ("You know, Val, he's into that waterboarding shit now - I don't know, it's a kink." - episode 6 welcome to heaven) And this is JUST Angel's perspective. You don't see Valentino's other contracts but from the way Angel is treated, it's kind of clear that he does shit like this to anyone under his control, and thus anyone who cannot tell him No.

Look. You get the sense that Alastor is a dick, but there's no implication that he takes Niffty and Husk out back and beats them when he's aggravated (with them or otherwise.) We literally watch Valentino assault and threaten Angel because there is someone stronger than him [Valentino] who is trying to get him out of work.

[Edit (June 2nd, 2024): I want to clarify that I do like loser, baby and also Husk as a character and this is more abt my grievances with fandom comparing the two. In series, Angel needed that discussion with Husk and even thought their situations aren't 1:1 or even really that similar, it's still clear that Husks attempt to like. It's difficult to manage this in a fandom, and it isn't bad for kids to have crushes on kids, but are you gonna sit there and tell me that it isn't a little odd to see someone who's in their late 20's talk about a 16 year old in a sexual way??

It could also just be personal preference and such, but it lowkey irks me when I see people talking about how "sexy" Toga is when she's 16 years old.

There are SOOO MANY amazing, attractive adult characters in BNHA. From the pro heros to the villains to the PARENTS OF THE UA CAST!!! There's a fit for practically anyone but people still fucking look at these overworked, traumatized kids going back to their high-school class and making goo-goo eyes for them.

to clarify: I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE CHARACTERS IN MY HERO ACADEMIA. All of the characters have such appeal in their own ways and I fell in love with the narrative. Everyone in class 1-A look beautiful, especially the latest season because we're able to see what amazing heros they've become over the series!! Horikoshi has become an even better artist than when he started, and he clearly loves his craft.

Heros, Villains, or anything in-between- it doesn't matter if you want to fawn and drool over a character from a fictional media such as animation; as long as they aren't a kid.

ive been calling c! beeduos relationship platonic because i thought that was what their cc’s said, and i thought they had said that they were uncomfortable with ppl shipping the characters. But ive seen a lot of posts that say their relationship is canonically romantic? and i absolutely do not want to come across as homophobic by watering down a mlm relationship to just friends because that happens so much in media so.

what is the canon state of their relationship / ur opinions on the platonic thibg

let me put it simply: it’s a whole mess, lol.

first im going to talk about what’s happened fandom-wide that caused differing opinions, and then i’ll explain my own opinion/interpretation. :]

(this got really fucking long im so sorry)

ranboo and tubbo initially proclaimed the relationship was romantic, specifically in argument with the wiki editors who had set it as platonic by default. (you can see this in the vod where they decide they’re canonically married— it’s very funny. chat tells them the marriage is already on the wiki, they check, tubbo is jokingly offended that it says platonic and asks if he needs to up the romance).

tubbo also makes jokes about adultry, which sort of implies the relationship is not necessarily a platonic one.

(theres definetly more in that stream alone but it’s been a long time since i watched it so i don’t remember a lot of it.)

the wiki, because of this, suffers from going back and forth on platonic and romantic, seemingly unsure where the joke ends and the canon begins, or if its canonically a joke! a mess, as you can already tell.

this gets more complicated as the marriage bit goes on: outsiders, such as phil and scott, both at one point say “platonic marriage”, which then ranboo and tubbo agree with. however, when chat asks them if they’re platonic, they say the opposite. so there is a lot of confusion there.

there’s also the difficulty of being able to tell streamers and characters apart. ranboo and tubbo both don’t like being shipped irl, and that’s their boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed. (they’re also minors, but tbh when they’re 18 in a year i will still be following their boundaries regardless of their legal age).

due to people not wanting to be accused of minor shipping, they started adding the platonic tone indicator to most of their drawings— basically a way of saying “no homo”. meanwhile, tubbo frequently on stream flirts with ranboo and makes quite a bit of nsfw comments towards him that are frankly hilarious.

this goes on for a while with nobody really sure what’s canon, but a lot of people assuming it’s probably platonic, until: the drama of the mods night. a few mods dmed all the wiki editors telling them ranboo wanted his canon character relationship officially set to platonic.

unfortunately for those mods; the very same day, a few hours later, ranboo on stream makes fun of puffy delivering him and tubbo “friendship flowers”. because, and i quote, “bruh. we’re literally married. this must be how the ancient greeks felt.”

in case you don’t know, the internet often jokes about how historians will call ancient greeks ‘very good friends’ when they are quite obviously gay. so in this context, ranboo is joking that people will call him and c!tubbo, who are married, “close friends”, when he doesn’t think they are.

basically, ranboo canonized romantic bee duo, the very same day the mods told everyone he’d wanted a platonic one.

chaos and drama immediately erupted everywhere. on tumblr, we were talking about how weird it was of his mods to do something like that without asking him first. we ALSO talked about how weird it was of them to assume that ranboo can’t make his own decisions, or assume teenagers cannot be in relationships without it being sexual. twitter did the same thing but in the opposite direction: called ranboo mods homophobic, or said they were mad ranboo felt pressured into making a romantic relationship canon ‘just so people could have mlm rep.’

i dont want to go into detail about the drama that happened that night because apparently official people follow me and i dont want to stir it up or have them come “clarify” things. im just saying what we talked about.

ranboo in typical ranboo fashion apologized quickly and seriously. he was deeply sorry for possibly offending anyone with how he’d portrayed his rp relationship with tubbo, and he also assured everyone the mod thing was just a miscommunication.

he said he would talk to tubbo and they’d decide once and for all whether it was platonic or romantic, and then announce so everyone would know.

it’s now been a few months and we've had no word from them on that development. we still have no clue.

now, here’s my opinion:

i want to take ranboos word for it that it was a miscommunication with his mods, but... we had it on good authority from people on the wiki team and people in the discord with the mods that (while it was happening) they were really going after the wiki admins, and also made some weird comments about it. that combined with the way ranboo seemingly had no clue (considering he canonized their romance that very same day).... it’s very. sus of the mods.

then there’s the canon we’ve got since then. although occasionally adults in the room have called it a “platonic marriage” and tubbo once (back when it first started) called it a “plankton tectonic” marriage, in roleplay it’s been... kind of not that. tubbo and ranboo make nsfw jokes about each other in character, and their characters also share a master bedroom and bed in the mansion. there's also the way c!tommy really thinks it’s a romance between them as well, and they agree with and play off that— for instance confirming that they “fell in love” when he asked, or ranboo confirming that they “make out on occasion”.

people will still put platonic on their art and posts, imo, because they’re worried about breaking ranboo and tubbo’s irl boundaries by looking like they ship them. or even just being accused of shipping real life minors. and that’s a valid fear to have.

the thing is though: c!bee duo are not cc!bee duo. they’re roleplay characters. cc!bee duo are not okay with being shipped, but they made their characters get canonically married, and call each other “husbands”. so it’s okay to write the word “husband” in your comic without adding “platonic” to it, i promise.

telling the ccs that their characters have to be platonic is... weird. it comes off as not only babying them, but also as saying teens can’t date without it being gross. which isn’t true.

(this is why seeing people overuse “platonic husband” so much bothers me. like, they ARE husbands. you can just say it. what are you trying to hide...?)

do i think they’re canonically romantic? ehh, its likely. it’s still okay to interpret them as platonic, because again, it’s hard to tell where jokes end and roleplay begins. like, maybe it’s jokes in the rp too, and c!bee duo are just friends. friends can and should be allowed to make jokes like that with each other! aro & ace marriages exist!

or, maybe it’s actually part of the rp, and they’re very much romantic. we don’t know!

some people say they could be a qpr (queerplatonic romance), which i could see. (a qpr is a relationship that fluctuates between, or can’t quite be sorted into, “romantic” and “platonic”. people in a qpr can do romantic things while having platonic feelings for each other). in my opinion this is a very valid interpretation as well!

mmm. i’m not sure on this one. they are canonically married and very flirtatious, but the ccs don’t like being shipped and they’re close enough to being the ccs that actively shipping might be against boundaries.

yes. literally just don’t be weird about it. it’s not that hard! you can understand that two characters are husbands without making it weird

here’s the most important thing: boundaries. cc bee duo still haven’t told us what their preferences and canon is about this whole thing.

Oh man. I mean first, I want to clarify, I am not done writing Tom (& his characters) forever, I just haven’t been feeling it lately.

And I mean, that’s the main reason. Just haven’t had much inspiration. I know Tom has been super busy w different shoots & hasn’t been on ig or anything, so there just hasn’t been much content. And quite honestly… the hair he had to have for TCR was NOT giving lmao. Too greasy. Didn’t like it. Was not feelin it. I still love Tom, obviously, there just hasn’t been a lot to give me the inspiration to write, like there has been in the past!

Before NWH came out, I wasn’t using tumblr a lot just bc of… life & feeling unmotivated to write then, too.

Another major reason I wasn’t really writing, besides motivation/inspiration, is something I’ve seen a LOT of my friends on here talk abt. Lack of interaction. It often felt like I’d put a lot of time and effort into writing something, and then just… not get very many reblogs or feedback. The fandom feels kinda dead, and like there aren’t many ppl WANTING to read that stuff. Idk!!! This is just all from my POV and maybe I’m way off with that, but it’s just part of the reason I haven’t been writing. Like, just for example, I posted a Steve Harrington fic like a week ago that already has 1k notes. I can’t tell you the last time I posted a tom fic or blurb that got good traction.

I think another reason is that I’m also feeling a little more comfortable writing characters instead of real people, ya know? Again, I’m not saying I’m not going to write for Tom anymore, but I do like writing for a fictional character that already has a world and lots of details I can work with.

This is probably not very clear and really just me rambling, but I hope that makes sense. I’m sure there are more reasons that I’m not thinking of rn, but these are the main ones. And honestly, it’s like 80% just the fact that I haven’t been feeling into that lately.

y’know, i think i might’ve realized why so many people gravitate towards batfam instead of flashfam

to the extent of my knowledge, most of the flashfam are related to each other either biologically or by marrying (to clarify i’m talking specifically abt pre52 flashfam rn since i haven’t actually read any of the new52 yet). you have:

barry allen, the flash

iris west, barry’s wide

wally west, iris’ nephew

linda park, wally’s wife

don and dawn allen, iris and barry’s children in the 30th century

jenni ognats, the daughter of don and jeven ognats

bart, the son of dawn and meloni thawne, making him jenni’s cousin and wally’s first cousin once removed (i think so anyways i’m not sure)

owen mercer, bart’s half-brother

thaddeus thawne II, bart’s clone and technically his twin/brother

jai and irey west, linda and wally’s kids

pretty much the only ones who aren’t biologically related in any sense are jay and joan garrick, who imo act like barry’s parents, and also temporarily had bart in their care for a while

of course, this isn’t including people like jesse chambers, max crandall, johnny chambers, etc. bc i’m mostly going through the family tree, however they are very close friends/allies who are generally considered as part of the flashfam

ANYWAYS, like i said, that list of people? they’re all biologically connected in some way, or in linda + joan + iris’s cases, they married in.

now let’s look at the batfam, which is made up almost entirely of non-biologically related people (once again, not taking into account close friends such as babs and steph):

alfred pennyworth, the wayne’s butler and the man who raised bruce (along with leslie thompkins)

bruce wayne, batman

dick grayson, bruce’s first son

jason todd, bruce’s second son

tim drake, the third son

cassandra cain, bruce’s one and only daughter

talia al ghul, who isn’t generally considered a part of the batfam (thanks to morrison ruining her entire character smh) but was once married to bruce

this list also doesn’t take into account close friends/allies like stephanie brown, barbara gordon, selina kyle, etc. bc none of them are official members of the family, though they are counted as family by most people (including me). again, these are the official members of the batfam

it’s pretty common knowledge that the batfam is the most popular family in the entire dc franchise. the fanworks alone go to show that, and dc isn’t much better when it comes to that. it can be hard to figure out why, since the batfam can be so messed up sometimes, especially compared to the flashfam, which imo is one of the most openly loving and caring families in dc. despite that, the flashfam fandom is like a single speck of dust compared to the batfam fandom, which can honestly be really frustrating bc they deserve more recognition, but i digress

anyways, the main difference between these two families?

blood relations.

okay, let me explain. here’s the thing—the batfam fandom is mostly made up of people that are queer, neurodivergent, mentally ill, or maybe just don’t have that great of a home life. this post explains it much better than i ever could, but the general gist is that these people love the concept of found family since they usually don’t have an amazing relationship or are rejected by their blood family, and the batfam is built on found family. like i said, the only people related by blood are bruce and damian—everyone else is a) adopted or b) close enough to the family that they’re considered part of it (think steph, babs, alfred, etc.)

now, i’m pretty sure that the batfam is the only family that’s pretty much completely found family (with the exception of lanternfam, but hal, kyle, jess, simon etc. don’t fall into archetypal roles like the dad, the brother, the uncle, etc. so i feel like that plays a big role in why the lanternfam isn’t nearly as popular + the fact that most people just don’t really seem to care about them). most of dc’s other families are blood related—and this includes flashfam, which i think it actually the family that has the most blood-related members in it.

here’s the thing—some of the members of the flashfam absolutely do play at least a little bit into found family. take bart, for example—he travelled back in time from the future. iris couldn’t take care of him bc she couldn’t spoil future events for the others (i think so anyways i’m not too sure), wally was nowhere prepared to mentor a kid who was so much like him, so max was the one to take him in, and they ended up having an amazing father-son relationship, and they weren’t related to each other, either.

still, despite definitely having more healthy relationships than the batfam, most of the flashfam is blood-related, which is probably a huge part of why people gravitate towards the batfam—the idea of having a found family that, while dysfunctional and messy, is a family that loves each other, is really appealing towards people who are queer/neurodivergent/etc. not only that, a lot of the batfam members are unintentionally neurodivergent coded, which is another reason for the flashfam not being nearly as popular (though i firmly believe that most if not all speedsters are adhd i mean just look at bart’s 90s solo comic but that’s not the point)

of course there’s also the fact that dc just loves promoting the batfam for whatever reason...most of the dc animated movies have batman + nightwing in them, and god whenever i scroll down to movies that have ‘batman’ in their title on my tv list it’s so goddamn long...batman himself is one of the most well-known fictional characters ever, and while the flash is popular, it pales in comparison to batman. most forms of dc media have the batfam or at least bruce, alfred + dick or damian in them (batman and harley quinn, batman vs robin, the dcamu universe, etc.) while the flash...

i’m pretty sure barry’s the only one to really consistently appear in any sort of dc media that isn’t comics, but the one movie that could be considered a flashfam movie is justice league: the flashpoint paradox and even then i feel like it’s a stretch. other than that, all i can think of if wally making some cameos in the 2003 teen titans cartoon + his appearances in ttg. even in video games, there’s no bart, no jay, no max—only barry as the flash and wally as kid flash, even if the timeline doesn’t make sense

so yeah. that’s my reasoning for why the batfam is so much more popular than the flashfam

I think sashanne lost popularity after season 2 and non fans or brand new fans want to make it simple by saying oh sasha is always bad and made the other girls lives miserable. Which is not true.

We've seen the girls in flashbacks do normal fun teen things and just hang out. Webonow all 3 absolutely adore each other. Sasha convinced Anne to do bad and questionable things but it was never to be malicious.

Their friendship isn't all bad. There's a lot of good. That's why it hurt Anne so much when Sasha didn't fully change, that's why Anne cried in Reunion. If she didn't love or at least care about Sasha it wouldn't affect her as much.

I know people are finally talking about how important maintaining healthy relationships is and cutting out bad toxic people is also important and good.

But I don't think the shows message is to say sasha is and always has been a bad friend and therefore she be cast out. It's all 3 girls need to take a step back and reevaluate themselves and how they view relationships and then take steps to do better.

The show should end with all 3 girls changing and recognizing what's good and bad and then giving their friendship a fair chance with respect, compassion, communication and boundaries. People can change and relationships can improve for the better and all 3 girls made mistakes they should be allowed to have a second chance.

no yeah absolutely. one thing I fucking hate abt big fandoms is the presence of like, purity culture ig? in which a ship has to b like fucking flawless and not messy in order to be "not problematic". like I'm sorry but that is NO fun and messy relationships are entirely more realistic and interesting to think about. they also can be super cathartic if you get to see the two (or more) people work through their issues and grow from them, bc that's how life WORKS.

so yes, I deeply admire the way Amphibia writes the Calamity Trio, bc each one of them has flaws that are made obvious in one way or another, and they're all intended to be seen as, at worst, morally gray in the end. we've seen Anne work through most of her flaws already, while Marcy and Sash still have some shit they need to grow from. but like yes the point is that NONE of them are intended to be seen as instantly bad bc they have issues, not even the character who was pitted as antagonistic up until the end of s2.

to see people bash Sashanne bc they want to reduce Sasha to nothing but a toxic friend to Anne is kind of.. disappointing, bc it means people are like. absolutely ignoring how Sasha's manipulative/controlling tactics are coping mechanisms to give themself security. is that an excuse for the way they've treated Anne? no. but it's an important thing to note bc Sasha is not trying to hurt Anne at ALL. it clarifies that their actions are more based on feeling safe rather than going out of their way to hurt their best friends.

"I swear half this fandom don't actually like Ben" lmao true! Thing is though he's not likeable all the time and he can be a right old dick. But personally even if I don't like him or his actions at certain times, I feel like the broader picture is still there and I root for him because I get why he's like he is? And I can see and appreciate the softer sides of him even if they're fairly well hidden at times.

I also think some people in the fandom intellectually understand that he's traumatised and a survivor of various abuses, and when that shows in certain ways e.g. like if Callum or Lola is comforting while he's crying. But when it comes to situations like this week with Jags and Whitney, I personally think some people have struggled to understand how his trauma connects to it because it's not as obvious as e.g. Whitney's fiance dies, Gray manipulates her, bish bash bosh hit and run. Even more broadly I think it's easy for the audience to underestimate how Ben's experiences have shaped him because there's a distance created by time, his criminal actions, his (un)likeability factor, not viewing Phil as an abusive parent etc.

i know this seems like an irrelevant ramble but i think i've realized that this is what my issue is. ppl not understanding trauma is frustrating and damaging and still pisses me off, but i feel like what actually pisses me off more are the ppl who just don't even attempt to be understanding bc underneath it all they're angry/frustrated at the show/sls and that's how it manifests itself. ppl don't like the direction ben and/or callum are going in and so the minute they (and it's usually ben lbr) step out of line they JUMP on that as an excuse to vent their frustrations and often end up saying shit that is ignorant or damaging or mean or just straight up cruel abt things that are so often symptoms of mental illness or trauma. so they're out here posting so many things and making these cruel little comments bc they can't just acknowledge that they don't actually like ballum anymore meanwhile ppl who are actually disabled/mentally ill/traumatised are sitting there reading all of these things and seeing all the people agreeing w them and it's doing real life damage to people.

is it on purpose? probably not. but that doesn't make the damage any less real. i have never forgotten or forgiven the way ppl reacted after ben went deaf. it was vile. as a disabled person who reacted very badly to being disabled just like ben did, it genuinely fucked me in the head seeing what ppl said abt him during that time. now i understand that it was partially ignorance but also a big chunk of it was ppl being unhappy bc they thought they wouldn't be able to enjoy their ship anymore bc ben was disabled (not that he hadn't been disabled before, but now it wasn't ignorable anymore).

i'm putting the rest of this under a cut just because i know for a lot of people the above kind of fandom experience is fun, and i'm not here to harsh anyone's vibe.  i'm glad that people are able to enjoy fandom in their own way, and me talking about my own preferences does not mean i think anyone else should change what they're doing.  i am comfortable curating my own fandom experience to suit my needs - @ everyone else, please continue to do your thing and have fun with it!

YES.  this is my least favorite shipping-related trend ever.  

it's not just that scene.  it's every single moment in the show (and not just between merlin and arthur, either).  every possible interaction gets pulled out and twisted to be about how in love two characters must be, when the actual point is Clearly Not That, and it's exhausting.  i know other people find it fun, and i'm glad they're having fun, but for me, it's exhausting.

for a show where the main character canonically demonstrates virtually zero interest in romantic attachment, it's really...difficult for me sometimes to fully immerse myself in this fandom, because almost all of the fannish content is about shipping merlin with arthur.  and if you don't think arthur is good enough for merlin (valid lol), you ship him with gwaine, or somebody else who you think would treat him better.  merlin without a love interest - the merlin i know from canon - is so hard for me to find.  i don’t really see him anywhere.

(also, to clarify: the PEOPLE in this fandom are fantastic.  everyone I've encountered in my limited experience has been beyond lovely; and pretty much everyone I've met has always seemed totally warm and welcoming of various ships and opinions, which obviously isn't something you find in every fandom, so in that sense, my experience with the merlin fandom has been consistently awesome.  what i'm musing about now isn't individual shippers or their preferences; it's about the overarching content-related experience of being a non-shipper in a fandom where, content-wise, shipping is The Main Thing To Do.)

and of course, this isn't just a merlin fandom trend.  this is the way things have been done in every fandom i've ever been involved in.  every single interaction between two characters always ends up getting pulled out and viewed through a shipping lens, and suddenly everything about the characters as individuals is made to be about the relationship.  EVERYTHING.  things that very clearly have actual, non-romantic explanations get taken out of their context and framed as "they're in LOVE."

and again, as I said before - there's nothing inherently wrong with that, and if people have fun with it, good!  that's what fandom is for.  but it's not my jam, and it can be a bit frustrating sometimes, because a) it’s a reductive analysis, like you said, and b) as someone who is deeply invested in all the friendships on this show, i'm not sure what the institution of friendship is even supposed to look like in this fandom.  does it actually exist?  because a character can't do anything even remotely kind without immediately having it captioned "they're so in love" or "today in totally platonic things, winkwink nudgenudge"

what tiny smidgen of caring is small enough to fall under the category of friendship?  how cold and unfeeling do characters have to be with each other for their interactions to qualify as friendship?  literally everything that happens in merlin bbc is, in fact, a product of the love merlin feels for his friends, and nothing about that fact was ever difficult for me to believe while i was watching the show, but once i got out into the wider fandom, it was like that just wasn’t possible.  nobody would do these things for "just" friends.  nobody would be that gentle or caring or loving with "just" friends.  nobody would look at "just" friends like that.  nobody would grieve for “just” friends like that.

to borrow a phrase from one of george lucas's discussions about a different media issue - "i don't like that and i don't believe that."

nothing about that philosophy is interesting to me, or remotely realistic.  and i don’t necessarily think it’s what shipping as an institution is actively trying to communicate, but it is still what’s actually being said in those kind of *wink wink, nudge nudge* posts.

[it’s worth noting also that the *wink wink, nudge nudge*, “every little thing is romantic” lens only applies when people want it to.  i see a lot of the following two modes in the merlin fandom: when it comes to merlin/arthur, fanon interpretation of the show is twisted to make every single one of their interactions serve as evidence for an imaginary romance, but when it comes to arthur and gwen's actual, demonstrated romantic attraction for each other, fandom twists everything the opposite way.  i constantly see posts that are like "i think arthur and gwen loved each other, but they weren't IN love" - uh-huh.  ok.  convenient, that.  suddenly we’ve lost the ability to perceive romance in every single innocuous gesture?  apparently we can fabricate romance out of two people blinking at each other, but only when the relationship in question is a pretend pairing we wish was real.  otherwise, the canonical romance and all of its attendant acts of devotion just don’t register.]

and you know, it's whatever.  i've been involved in fandom long enough to know that this kind of shipping is just how things always go, and i’m happy enough keeping to my own area and trying to curate my fandom experience in a way that brings me the most enjoyment.  but i 100% feel you on ubiquitous shipping goggles being a difficult thing to constantly navigate.

I find it really weird how people jumped on c!niki. like I get being frustrated with a character having a warped perception of another character, especially with said character being so beloved, and I get being worried about the fandom perception but like, the way everyone immediately jumped into being a c!wilbur defense squad is? weird to me? kind of? like, c!niki is literally spiralling again and said some really worrying stuff about her herself (crossing into self-harm territory even), we all know how deeply she's affected by wilbur (her seeing ghostbur and then having a near-breakdown is a good moment that shows that for example), she feels hurt so deeply, a betrayal so scarring for her (and we're NOT talking about validity of the word "betrayal" here, it's not about that). It's just weird for me this kinda, lack of empathy towards her. it's like people saw this character that yes has her faults but is so clearly, deeply hurt (and literally spiralling again) and went "okay but what does this mean for wilbur though 🤔" - and i am a c!wilbur apologist btw, we know about his motivations and how destruction of l'manberg was a tragic and selfless act in truth - but some characters don't know that, and are allowed to feel hurt and betrayed by it, it's weird, idk, usually I'd be right with the fandom but the way everyone immediately jumped on c!niki in this very cold fashion is ???????

i understand what you feel and don’t really have the brain power to intelligently respond, and honestly, ive just been reblogging posts that made sense to me.

tbh i was going to post abt the self harm thing (because what the fuck) but it was in the middle of the vod and niki then went on to keep talking which, as you could understand, made me think about what she was saying. ig its just a sort of human nature to defend someone

but also, i think most people are just really tired of the villian wilbur thing. it’s been here for so so long... literally eight months. they’re tired of it, and they’re especially tired of hearing the fandom hate on him to no end. this was a breaking point because of how much was said abt him that simply wasn’t true

also c!niki has a history of placing all blame on a single person, usually in an unfair way

there’s also a matter of debating subtext... “niki is upset and hurt” is obvious. like, everyone who watched the stream would understand that. “niki is traumatized and fucked up” isn’t like, a new or controversial statement— it’s something we just saw happen

“what niki is saying about wilbur isn’t actually true” is a very diferent thing because you wouldn’t know that unless you watched season one. and a LOT of this fandom didn’t watch season one, they take wilburs words of villainy as gospel. that’s why so many people feel the need to clarify it i think.

(none of the above made much sense, and i also have a lot more thoughts on the subject, but im tired, so i think ill go watch ranboo play life is strange lol)

the chip thing

soo I guess im just too upset abt this scene. (”I can’t destroy it”) (and @ all the Clexa shippers commenting on my post abt how I was “pathetic” :D) 

To clarify: I wasnt that angry/bitter abt bellarke or leaving bel behind (made a long ass post about that) but rather abt her not choosing Madi unconditionally. It seemed ooc considering how codependent her relationship w# Madi is. And how far she was willing to go to save Madi from the flame. I get she loved Lexa; but.. even with the truest of loves.. she is dead. she is not that chip, the chip only holds a version of her, a memory. It seemed weird to me that Clarke would choose a memory over the very much alive and endangered Madi considering it was easy for her to choose Madi over Bellamy in a heartbeat? And he is also her canon soulmate, even if only platonically atm. It just doesnt seem like its a natural choice for her to make? It kind of feels like out of place writing, to me. It would have felt more in character if she had been willing to try and destroy the chip, and we’d gotten a scene abt her being conflicted, her crying before/during/after. (the importance Lexa still has in Clarkes life is epic and it should be) This way it just feels like the writers needed the flame to survive for plot reasons, which is super lazy. And then again: I am a Clexa supporter! I love Clexa, with all my heart. But Lexa has been dead for 6 years; and Madi is Clarke’s child. With a burden on her shoulders Clarke has had to endure herself. How can she expose her to that? Its just... it just doesnt add up?! C not being willing to destroy the chip doesnt pay tribute to her love for Lexa. And Clexa would have deserved an entire scene, not a little ooc comment used as a plot device.

Also I get shipping wars are still a thing in this fandom and I might get attacked (again) by either bellarke and/or Clexa fans now.. so I just want to clarify: ive always shipped both, im not gonna pick a side. Im also not attacking either ship: I am attacking the writing. And both ships deserved more.
