The Good, The Bad, The Funny, The Awkward
Dear World,
We have all done one, or two. Honestly, it depends on how many universities you applied for and how many you actually wanted to go. Not only are they interesting to go on as a student but get this, actually being the one giving the tour is the most awkward thing in the world! Not ideal for already awkward people...
Giving the tours (and going on the tours) are super awkward because you want to be interested and care but you do not actually want to bore the people with the facts. So, you know what? Here is the honest truth from an ex-campus tour guide.
1. The smile you see on my face is not real.
I'm not ever this happy to be talking to strangers because usually I'm highly stressed and it has just become a conditioned response to seeing people.
2. "Here is our math building. The building where you go to class for math because every degree requires math. Math."
When what I want to say is "Math building where I've never actually have a math class. No, you'll have Spanish in here mostly."
3. "Oh so how was your trip here? Was it far?"
I try to sound very caring and on the off chance, I had a really good day and just in a good mood, I do care. But my inner monologue is more like "How was your trip? I am going to assume good since you made it here." Then they tell you and then they keep talking so you do this weird head nod thing like you're trying to understand a language.
4. "And here is our Mass Communications building, also known as the Buell Communication Center or BCC because Buell Communications Center is SOOO LONG. It is home to Mass Communications and all its emphases!"
Since this really is my home I play it up so much and probably annoy the group because I am basically saying, "This is our Mass Comm building. We call it the BCC which means Buell Communications Center. We have amazing radio stations, a campus magazine, and TV studio. Mass Comm is awesome. I am Mass Comm and I am awesome look at me!" Internally I am cringing.
5. The importance of never saying ANYTHING negative.
While yes, I agree, I also want to be real with people because no place is perfect. So I say, "This is our Library and Academic Resource Center aka the LARC but most just call it the Library. You can get coffee inside and study away!"
6. Except that (#5) is a description of what finals week is like.
What I want to say it. "This is a great place to nap and not get disturbed because people understand you're napping in a public place and they respect you for that."
My favorite part of being a campus guide was the weird questions people ask about housing:
"Can my son bring an oven?"
What I have to say, "No he can not that is against the rules but there is a kitchen he can use that is in the lobby area of the halls."
What I want to say, "Can we take a minute for you to reflect on your own question. I understand you're are worried because your son is leaving for college, but really? Please, think about that and get back to me."
"Why did you let the bugs in?"
What I have to say, "Sometimes they just get inside whether it's from the doors or windows. It is just something that happens."
What I want to say, "Yes ma'am, I personally let the bugs inside because I secretly love insects. Oh wait, I do not live here, so maybe I opened the door and let them in!"
Honestly, though, being a guide was fun, you learn a lot about interacting with people, and you learn to keep your mouth shut to some weird, weird things. I wouldn't take back my experience for the world.
Sincerely,
Your Ex-Campus Tour Guide

sounds of the season
day four of junkissed’s svt season’s greetings event
member — radio host!junhui x reader genre — fluff, college au word count — 1.7k synopsis — when your university’s radio show hosts a matchmaking event to raise money, you figure, what have you got to lose? the question you should be asking is, what have you got to gain? warnings — jun is so awkward but we love him, this is pretty dialogue-heavy sorry notes — lowercase intended. also i know nothing about how radio works so if i’m wrong just ignore it lol
this is part of @svthub's snowventeen winter collab! be sure to check out the collab masterlist here and support our talented writers! this collab contains both sfw and nsfw fics; minors dni with nsfw fics.
read part 2 here
one reblog = one holiday song on the radio
“that’s the end of today’s program, everyone, thanks for tuning in. remember to sign up for our ‘matchmaking for charity’ event while you still can! for every successful match, we’re donating $20 to toys for tots, so be sure to get your application in so we can find you a special someone this december. link is on our instagram, and our website, sdu.caratsradio.org, go check it out.”
a different voice follows. “we’ve been sounds of the season on 111.7 fm, hosted by our very own communications undergrads. have a great weekend, sdu students! we’ll see you back here monday at six for more holiday tunes.”
jazz study music from the next hour’s program begins to play as you sigh, closing the tab on your computer open to the school’s website.
for the last few weeks you’ve been listening to shining diamond university’s student radio station; more specifically, you’ve been listening to the duo that hosts the holiday music hour every monday and friday at 6pm. the festive music puts you in a better mood, but what you’re really there for is the hosts’ voices. their tone is so calming, most days you like to turn on the station in the background while you do your homework. something about the way they speak helps you focus. whoever they are, you could listen to them talk for hours.
there’s probably pictures of the hosts somewhere on the website, but you haven’t gone looking for them. you’re a little afraid that realizing that they’re not just pretty voices on your laptop, and knowing that there’s real-life faces connected to them would ruin the experience. so for now, you’re content to just imagine their voices and let your brain fill in the blanks.
you’ve been tossing around the idea of signing up for their event back and forth in your mind for a while now. being matched with a stranger at school just sounds nerve wracking, but at this point, you haven’t got much to lose. the worst that could come out of it is another bad date. plus, it’s for charity. you don’t know exactly what the parameters of the event are, but even if it doesn’t work out with whoever you’re matched with, you figure you could always just act like it did so the charity still gets the money.
what the heck, you figure. maybe it’ll be fun.
a week after signing up you get an email with info about your match and instructions on when and where to meet him. on saturday at noon he’ll be at the far corner of the café in the campus dining hall wearing a white hat, and you’re told to wear something blue so you can recognize each other.
when you get to the dining hall, the guy sitting at the table in the far corner is… attractive, to say the least. you would even call him your type, if you knew anything about him besides the fact that you’re on a blind date with a randomly paired listener of the program.
“hey! you’re my match, right? i’m junhui.” he stands up, greeting you with a shy smile. he’s deceptively taller than he looks sitting down, and you take him in for a moment.
“yeah, that’s me! nice to meet you!”
“can i buy you coffee?” he asks eagerly. “um, or whatever they have at the coffee shop.”
“oh– sure!” you say. you weren’t sure what you’d been expecting, but you hadn’t been expecting him to be so polite. “thank you.”
“of course,” he smiles.
you stand in line together at the register, and you order a cheap drink off the menu. but as he’s telling the barista his order, something clicks.
“hold on, you sound… really familiar.” you squint, tilting your head. he takes the two cups from the barista and looks over at you, confused. all of a sudden the realization hits you, and your eyes widen. you’d know that voice anywhere. “wait, aren’t you–”
he nods sheepishly, handing you your drink. “yeah, i’m one of the radio hosts.”
holy shit. “that’s cool that you signed up for this too, though. did one of the comm professors match people, or was it random, or…?” you ask, trailing off to let him answer.
“no, me and jeonghan put the matches together. so it was on purpose.” his fingers toy with the cardboard sleeve of his coffee cup, and he lets out a nervous laugh. “would you hate me if i told you i matched us because i’ve had a crush on you since we had com101 together?”
“really?” you laugh. blush creeps into his cheeks. “honestly, i barely paid attention in that class, i only took it for the credits.” you stop, realizing how that must sound to him. “i mean, no offense! i wasn’t trying to be rude, i just–”
he shakes his head quickly. “i get what you meant. and, it was a pretty big class, so. easy to not know everyone.”
“why didn’t you say anything? i know i probably looked grumpy in that class, but i promise i’m not,” you say, adding a smile that you hope looks encouraging.
“no! it’s not you,” he rushes to explain. “i’m just not that great at talking to people.”
“but… you host a radio show?”
“it’s not the same. i’m not truly talking to anybody but jeonghan. there’s a monitor that shows us how many people are listening, but i ignore it.” he leans back in his chair. “i have to do it as part of one of my classes, but i actually really enjoy it now.”
you smile. “that’s good that you found something you like.”
he clears his throat, taking a small sip of his drink. “so, do you, um, listen often? you don’t have to say you do if you don’t, by the way, i won’t be offended. just curious.”
you debate lying to not expose yourself, but he looks so excited to hear that you can’t honestly tell him no. “actually, yeah. i listen almost every program. you have a really nice voice.”
the tips of his ears turn bright red, and immediately you feel awkward again. “sorry, is that weird to say?”
“that’s—no, not at all!” he stammers. “i think it’s a really big compliment. thank you.”
“yeah,” you add, not sure how to respond without making things weirder. you’re both silent for a second, the busy sounds of the dining hall’s café filling the room in the absence of words.
after an almost uncomfortable amount of silence passes, you laugh, trying to lighten the mood. “so, uh, what do we need to do for this to be considered successful?”
“huh?”
“for the charity thing. how do you decide what gets donated and what doesn’t?”
his focus snaps back to you. “oh! we’re donating for all the matches, even if they don’t work. we just said that as, like, an incentive so people would sign up.”
“oh.” you nod, thinking.
“did– did you want to leave?” he asks shyly. “i don’t wanna keep you here if you’re not enjoying it.”
“did you want to leave?” you counter.
“well… no,” he says. “but i don’t wanna force you.”
“you’re not, don’t worry,” you say, shaking your head. it’s awkward, for sure, but it’s far from the worst date you’ve ever been on. the least you could do is stick it out for another half hour or so.
“sorry this is so weird,” he laughs. “i don’t go out a lot.”
“it’s fine.” you smile at him, hoping he’ll relax a little. “is that why you signed up for this?”
“well, kinda,” he nods. “i was hoping i’d recognize somebody’s name and maybe make a new friend. but this is good, too.”
you fight the urge to frown, since it’s obvious he’s trying his best, but you’re confused at his statement. “what do you mean, ‘this’?”
“i… don’t know. what do you think this is?”
“a date,” you say simply.
“oh!” he says, fiddling with his cup again.
“is that what you want this to be?” you ask gently.
“i– yeah, that would be really cool,” he grins, nodding. “a date.”
you smile at his enthusiasm. he’s cute, and his personality is, too.
“so, what’s working at a radio station like?” you pry. having finally been able to meet the man behind the voice you’ve heard so much of, you can’t say you’re not more than a little curious about who he is.
“oh, yeah, you like hearing me talk, sorry,” he says. your face heats in embarrassment, but before you can defend yourself, he continues on. “um, it’s pretty fun. the machinery’s pretty cool, the microphones and stuff. makes me feel like a professional singer or something. even though it’s more just choosing music to play than me actually talking.”
he looks up. “you can come by while we’re live sometime, if you want,” he says. “the studio’s really nice, they have beanbag chairs and somebody always brings snacks.”
“is that allowed?”
“sure! you can be my special guest,” he grins. “only if you want,” he adds a second later, as if he’s just thought of something.
you smile warmly. “it sounds fun. i’d love to.”
his face lights up. “great! can you come monday? we’re announcing the results of the matchmaking thing then.”
“i’ll be there.”
he pauses. “is this… a second date?” he asks tentatively. god, he’s adorable.
“yes, this is a second date,” you giggle.
he stands up. “should i walk you to your car? or is that too much?”
he holds the door open for you as you step outside.
you laugh. “no, my apartment’s on campus, i just walked here. but thank you for the offer, you’re really sweet. and thanks for the coffee, too.”
it might be because of the chilly december weather, but his cheeks seem a little pinker than before. “no problem,” he grins. “i’ll see you monday, i guess? for another date?”
“i’ll see you monday,” you confirm with a smile.
he waves, still grinning, and pulls out his phone. as you start to walk away, you hear his voice from behind you, “hannie, dude, you won’t believe what just happened!!”
you giggle to yourself. you can’t wait til monday.

meeting points
description: because overcoming heavy traffic is the new crossing oceans for people member: jisung / han genre: fluff, college au, not-so-long distance au, city life au, best friends to lovers au word count: 9.4k warning: explicit language, drinking, suggestive, food, traffic, heights, a clown note: i want to throw fists at han jisung but like with affection y’know
one - a new cafe
For almost 2 years now, you and Jisung have what Seungmin has once referred to as a semi-long distance friendship—only semi since you attend universities literally 20 minutes away from each other when there’s no traffic and friendship because, well, you’ve been best friends since high school. It’s not that you don’t have other friends who attend SNU like him or vice versa (but Yonsei University); rather, it’s that Jisung is the slowest replier in the world and you’re the second clingiest person in the world (just behind Hyunjin). Seeing each other in person as much as you can is an absolute must in order to keep Jisung from fully becoming one with his dorm, you sane from the academic pressure of tertiary education, and your overall friendship afloat. College students need to stick together somehow.
Unless it’s a bigger hangout with your mutual friends, you alternate locations depending on who has a heavier deadline to attend to afterward. When Jisung finds himself struggling to finish a song or needs to be at the campus radio station with the rest of 3racha later on, it’s you taking the bus to his university dorm; when it’s you slumped on term papers for your core subjects or on visual props your club needs, Jisung convinces Minho to let him carpool (since his night part-time job is on the way to your university).
But even then, it’s more often that you make the tedious travel. Like today.
On this particular day, it’s you seated on a bus and looking outside the window to pass the agonizingly slow time, sighing for the nth time at the evening rush hour. It’s only 6:20 PM on your phone and your bus is already on the connecting bridge but the endless sight of cars behind and ahead of you, against the darkness of the Han river and the bright city lights, doesn’t make you feel like you’ve crossed any distance. Jisung’s last text was a simple “stay safe” almost an hour ago when you got on the bus from the nearest stop outside your university.
The two of you are you supposed to try the new cafe inside his campus for dinner since your recent hangouts have only been inside his dorm (with Hyunjin too since they’re roommates), watching old movies and eating take-out until Jisung accidentally falls asleep from power working beforehand. It’s nearing the semester break and everyone’s been sort of busy at SNU, but lately, Jisung’s been actually making an effort to make time for you and insisting that you hang out at the expense of his sleep.
Backwards thinking but okay, you shrug one shoulder at the thought. You’ve talked about it once on call when his sudden initiative to meet started since you’re concerned about his well-being and that you have all the time in the world once break starts but Jisung unexpectedly fell asleep halfway and Hyunjin had to end the call. Two days later, Jisung texted you that he rented the movie you wanted to watch at the cinema for the weekend with an apology for falling asleep and assurance that he’s almost finished with his deadlines and that he’s asking you to hang out responsibly.
It’s not like you don’t like it, you are already on the way to SNU, after all. Besides, you’re still very much free from heavy academic and club activities since your professors scheduled their deadlines after the break and your club is not as active lately. Have fun now, suffer later as Seungmin and Changbin have told you when you told them your worries about Jisung’s sleep schedule.
After a while of trying to count the cars on the bridge as your lane moves a little faster now, you open your phone and message Jisung to pass the time. You don’t always expect that he replies but it’s always the most reassuring when it’s him you’re contacting, even when it’s just casual.
y/n: don’t u have radio tonight? [sent 6:32 PM]
You’ve heard 3racha’s campus radio show on the several times you hung out at SNU during the day. They air live on Friday nights, Saturday if most of the all-student crew are busy, but the meetings are rather frequent when nearing holidays so you’re careful of leaving on time even on a non-Friday weekday like this.
y/n: just crossed ynghwa
y/n: bus is driving steady now!!! aaaaak
jisung: almost typed ‘arent u supposed to be looking at d road then i rmmbr that u don’t have a car LOL [sent 6:56 PM]
y/n: so do u have a meeting later?
jisung: no
At their dorms, Hyunjin is out for the night to god knows where but Jisung is quite certain it’s not for studying since he was dressed to the nines. When he got a text from you, he slowly but surely forced himself to stand up from his work area to get dressed. Though he’s the one who insisted on hanging out, it doesn’t change the fact that leaving his work is hard when he’s in his ‘zone’ but he has to since the new cafe’s apparently a 3-minute walk from his dorm but he has to meet you at the bus stop first.
y/n: ur probs not even dressed yet
y/n: close that laptop nerd
Jisung couldn’t bring it in himself to reply because he was already preoccupied avoiding getting dissed by you again whenever he wears his favorite Supreme t-shirt.
-
You arrive at the bus stop at around 6:50 PM, just as Jisung arrives, panting heavily from running the remaining distance when he received an ‘almost there’ message from you. You offer him a bottle of water you forgot to take out from your backpack and he quickly swipes it from you, chugging down the contents as if his life depends on it. “Woah there, haven’t seen you in a long time. Drink slowly and breathe.” You rub his arm comfortingly as the two of you stand on the empty sidewalk. Behind you, your bus drives away. “You didn’t have to run, you know, I could’ve just met up with you wherever you are.”
He then stops drinking just to breathlessly say, “But it’s dark and there could be creeps out.”
You’re touched but still concerned. “Still. I have you on speed dial, remember?”
When Jisung’s fully recovered, the two of you walk to the cafe together, catching up on what’s happened in your own lives in the past week since you last met. There’s not much, actually, since Jisung really doesn’t go out often unless it’s for classes, the radio show, or some of his other friends insisted and you’re almost always with your dorm mates, Lia and Ryujin, or with Changbin, Seungmin, and Jeongin.
“Minho says they have good Americano.” Eventually you arrive and Jisung immediately points to the several posters on the window, showcasing the cafe’s specialty.
“And how many days have you been running only on Americano?” You point out in an almost scolding tone. You approach the counter now where there are barely any people in line since most customers are already seated.
“Not that long!” He holds up his hands in the air. “Just 2 weeks!”
“Jisung!”
He imitates you dramatically with,“Y/N!” to which you only roll your eyes to.
“Good evening, how may I take your order?” The barista asks.
Jisung opens his mouth to speak but you hold an arm in front of him and turn to the barista, “One pesto, one lasagna, the chicken wings for sharing, two glasses of water, one cheesecake, and one strawberry cake, please.”
“Y/N, this is a cafe, where their specialty is coffee.” Jisung teases dryly as the barista takes note of your order, a last attempt at getting himself another cup of Americano.
So without turning to him, you tell the barista, “Also, can you add an additional Americano—?”
“Finally—” “Two shots for me, not him.”
The barista only laughs at your banter. “Name please?”
“Y/N.”
While you’re conversing with the barista, Jisung shoots daggers to the side of your face, dramatically declaring, “I’m stealing your Americano.”
But you only drop your arm in front of him as the barista says, “That would be 12,000 won.”
“Oh, he’s paying.”
Either way, Jisung reluctantly pays with the sole motivation to get a sip from your iced Americano.
“Seriously, though, cut the Americano for a little while, maybe until finals.” You point out as you settle on a nearby table that has just been cleaned by staff. “Do you even know what a water dispenser looks like at this point?”
“I drink water.” He pouts, opting to sit down next to you to show that he really has all intents to steal your Americano. “It just doesn’t give me ideas for my projects.”
“You have one practical project due before the break. What about the other times you do work?”
“I do them quickly.”
You sigh in defeat. “Ah, seriously?”
When the barista calls for your name at the counter, Jisung holds you down by the shoulder and makes a run for the counter, taking a long sip of your Americano until you caught up to him.
“Success!” He exclaims, proud of himself, as he takes one of the two trays.
“Satisfied with your Americano?” You take the other tray in defeat, walking back to your table with him.
“Hm, I don’t knoooow.” He teases in sing-song, sitting next to you again instead of across from you as he would usually do. “You might finish everything before even finishing your pasta.”
“I’m not too much in a coffee mood, actually.” You scrunch up your nose. The two of you then proceed on taking your respective orders off the tray, setting the trays aside.
“But after the break, you will be.” He states matter-of-factly. “How many projects do you have due after the break?”
“I can only remember six because I really don’t want to think about them right now.” You steal a small slice of cheesecake from him as an unwritten exchange for his unlimited share of your iced Americano. “As Seungmin and Changbin once said, ‘have fun now, suffer later.’“
“Oh, I’m fun?”
You turn to your side to look at him, finding him looking back at you with a triumphant smile. “You’re not letting me live this down, won’t you?”
“No, it’s getting added to my list of Y/N compliments!”
You roll your eyes, taking another slice of cheesecake. He reiterates with his now third sip of Americano—you’re not even sure anymore because you’re pretty sure he’s already drank half of it.
“I said drink your water, jeez.” You slide him his glass of water, barely a quarter empty. You take the Americano from him, taking your own long sip of the drink.
“I will, I will! Just one last si—” “Han Jisung, let me drink my damn coffee!” “Okay, fine, let’s exchange!”
-
You leave the cafe when it’s nearing 9 PM. Somehow, when you’re with Jisung and food, you barely check the time, much less your phone, since your table gets messy from stealing each other’s dessert plates and, for tonight, Jisung drinking most of your Americano. You and Jisung also had a lot to say about your respective classes in a full-on rant session since there’s only 2 weeks left until everyone is on semester break.
“There’s not much traffic at this time, isn’t there?” Jisung asks you as he walks you back to the bus stop. He holds a paperbag containing your take-out cakes for your roommates. “You might fall asleep and miss your stop again.”
“Says the guy who sleeps on people during calls.” You tease with an elbow to his side. He tries to slap you back on your arm but you walk ahead enough to be out of his reach, sticking your tongue out at him. “There isn’t much traffic now, though, it’s only Thursday.”
“Y/N.” He laughs while calling your name, covering his mouth. “It’s Friday.”
Your eyes, of course, widen in surprise. “It is?” He only nods at this, finding amusement in the way your expression quickly turns into that of horror. “Ah, shit, I told my roommates we hang out tomorrow!”
“Why, do you have to do the dishes or something?”
But checking your phone, you only find a ‘wya’ message from Ryujin. Almost as quickly as you started panicking, you calm down again. “Oh, it’s fine.” You conclude, shoving your phone back in your coat pocket. “It’s just that they sometimes think I died at the library or something and end up making a big scene about it. Last time, our batch FB group got spammed.”
“Wow, then you judge me for always being cooped up in the dorms?”
“That’s different—I actually go out and walk. I’m surprised you can even run to the bus stop a while ago.”
Jisung threatens to swing your take-out bag at you. You only take it lightheartedly by holding your hands up in front of him, laughing.
But all jokes and banter aside, you give him a hug before boarding the bus. “Text me when you get home.” He recites his constant line when it’s you leaving. “Or when you miss your bus.”
“Shut up.” You mumble on his shoulder, punching his back hard before pulling away. “I hope you trip on your way back.”
“‘Night, Y/N.” “See you when I see you, nerd.”
two - a park
After a month of living off of ramen and iced Americano, barely seeing the sun, and hearing the same chords and melodies on repeat, Jisung passes the song he’s been working a week later. Besides this, he only has three papers left to tweak before he can fully enjoy the semester break without any sort of guilt.
To celebrate, it’s you inviting him this time to ride bicycles so he can move around but also relax. You picked the park at Ichon that’s on your side of the Han river but still far away from university so you don’t think of schoolwork the entire time.
On this particular hangout, you took the same bus but at different times. He boarded the bus first before you, arriving some 30 minutes after you’ve arrived at your nearest stop. Since it’s a Saturday morning, the traffic’s not too heavy.
“You look nice.” Jisung nudges you with one shoulder as you take a seat on the spot he saved you. The bus is not full since the rush hour had just gone.
“It’s just a t-shirt and shorts.” You reply flatly, hiding the fact that you actually thought a lot about your outfit last night. You even wore your good sneakers and denim jacket today.
“Yes, but it’s your other other favorite graphic shirt.” He points out. “The one for when we’re outdoors.”
Oh, so he noticed.
“Yes because someone has to look cute.” But you actually think Jisung looks nice even when he wears the same Supreme shirt like today—you’re just too in deep with the teasing to compliment him.
“I compliment the rainbow shirt you always wear when we sightsee but you diss my Supreme shirt.” He rolls his eyes. “Ah, people these days.”
“Because you’re always in and out of university in that.” To emphasis, you tease him further by scooting away. “Do you even wash that?”
“Of course I do.” He confidently and lightheartedly answers, putting an arm on your shoulder and pulling you back. “While it’s in the laundry, I wear my other Supreme shirt, or my other other Supreme shirt—“
“Yikes.” You tsk at him, crossing your arms. “This is what staying inside all day does to you.”
“That’s why you’re here, my Y/N, to take me out.”
“I was reduced to the role of babysitter.”
“I was going for hangout or date but you called yourself babysitter.”
-
Arriving at Ichon park, you make a quick snack stop at the nearest convenience store first. Since it’s your turn to pay, Jisung makes sure to buy all of his favorites (sans an iced Americano this time as your only condition to pay for him). You fill an entire basket with snacks and drinks both for when you ride a bicycle and for when you settle down for a picnic later at lunch.
“By the way, did you bring the mat?” You ask Jisung as you walk to the renting station, remembering that he and Hyunjin have the picnic mat you and your bigger circle of friends use for outings like this.
“Of course I did, what do you take me for?” He unzips his backpack to show you the blue gingham pattern Seungmin picked out two years ago. Aesthetic, he said. “I’m not the one who mistakes dates.”
“And I’m not the one who had to ask what the picnic mat looks like the other night despite having it for 4 months now.” After a few more steps, you arrive at the renting station. “I was just making sure.”
You then rent two bicycles, both with baskets for your belongings.
“Y/N, wear a hat.” Jisung reminds you while putting in his.
You frown. You did bring a cap but you also put a lot of effort on your hair today. “It’s going to ruin my hair.”
“The sun’s going to burn your hair if you don’t.” He takes your cap from your hands and gently places it on top of your hair before you can even reiterate, a small smile gracing his face at your speechless expression. “There.”
The fuck is he on? Still, your heart beats erratically at his sporadic gestures. Being Jisung’s best friend is a bit of a rollercoaster.
Especially lately.
Before you know it, Jisung’s already on his bicycle, urging you to do the same. Half-dazed, the two of you leisurely circle the entire stretch of the park, pointing at random landmarks across the river and eating your snacks.
Since this hangout’s also meant as a celebratory one, you let Jisung let loose and yell, “I’m done with my projects!” while extending his hands out as he cycles. You think to yourself that you have the rest of the year having a heart attack over that.
-
The park is full of families, friends, and couples on a Sunday that you almost couldn’t find a spot to lay your picnic mat on when the two of you got too tired of cycling around. You couldn’t consider sitting on a park bench since Jisung was getting sleepy as well, a result of not having a proper sleep schedule and a half in the past weeks.
So, after almost twenty minutes, you managed to secure a place from a couple who was just leaving for the nearby Namsan tower.
“Thank you so much again!” You thank the couple who even helps you set up the picnic mat while you let Jisung temporarily rest on the bare grass with his backpack as a pillow, sleep quickly catching onto him.
“No problem.” The woman says with a smile.
“Have fun on your own date.” The man adds, placing an arm on his date’s shoulders.
“Oh we’re not—“ But before you could even finish, the couple’s already walked away. You sigh, squatting down to Jisung’s eye level this time. “Jisung wake up, mat’s ready.”
He scrunches his nose with a groan, about to roll over to the opposite direction until you stopped him and rolled him towards the mat. His head lands soundlessly on the ground, forcing him to open his eyes.
“Damn, I thought I was going to land on your lap.” He rubs the area on his head that hit the grass.
You sit down next to him, taking out the sandwiches you bought from the convenience store. “Who do you think rolled you over, dumbass? For a genius, your sense of direction is quite questionable.”
“But can I?” He looks up at you now, poking your bare thigh. “Do you need like a blanket or something?”
You remind yourself that this is the same guy who threatened to smack you with a box of cake last week and dropkicked you once (but that’s another story). “Fine, go ahead.”
As if he woke up just a little with wide eyes and a genuinely happy expression on his face, Jisung scoots over while laying down (which makes you stifle a giggle because he looks like a worm doing it) until his head lays on your lap. You push a bottle of water and two bags of sandwiches next to his shoulders. “You have to eat later, though, okay?”
Looking down at him, you surprise yourself by finding him with his eyes still open. He busies himself with lazily getting his phone and earphones from his bag, putting on an earbud and offering you the other. “I saved my project for you to listen to.”
“Didn’t you say you were going to sleep?” Nevertheless, you take the earbud just as the music starts to play.
“Yeah, but I’m suddenly hyper-aware and awake.” He shrugs, taking the sandwich on his side. “You know, like when kids get put to bed from sleeping somewhere else.”
“So you do think you’re a kid?”
“Shush, this is the good part in the song.”
You chuckle, opting to not reply vocally to enjoy the song you’ve been hearing fragments off for the past month. The two of you then eat and listen in silence, that is until he asks you for comments at the end and the two of you discuss it for a while then it’s back to comfortable silence again but with different music as you scroll through your phone and Jisung tries to nap again.
Jisung falls asleep once he has a good look at you without your phone in the way.
-
At the end of the day, around 4 PM so you don’t get stuck in rush hour traffic, you take the same bus again but this time, it’s you leaving first.
The only problem is that despite a year and a half of frequenting your side of the Han river, Jisung still can’t seem to memorize bus stops well, forcing you to stay awake the entire ride.
“Y/N—“ “No, Jisung, we’re still three stops away.”
You don’t even have to look up from your phone to know that Jisung’s still looking out of the window as he’s had for the past 20 minutes, trying to gues your stop. At hearing your answer, he decides to stop, turning his head to the other direction as you text your groupchat.
“What’s up?” He rests his head on your shoulder casually to get a better view of the messages you’re skimming through, sending a shiver down your spine.
You try shrugging him off his shoulder but he shows no initiative to move. “Everyone’s starting to talk about the annual Halloween party. You’d know if you check the chat often.”
Away from your view, Jisung frowns. “I get ideas of what you’re talking about from how Hyunjin reacts to them, especially to the memes, thank you very much.”
“Well, at least you’re a bit better than Changbin when it comes to being online.” You say, more to yourself than to Jisung. “Anyway, you, Hyunjin, and Chan are in charge of the guest list. Chan just suggested that you squeeze it in your next radio show this week since the party’s the next night—maximum of 50 people!”
“Oh, yeah, we can do that.” He nods. “Any news on the venue?”
At this, you release a sigh of frustration. “Seungmin and Changbin booked a rooftop in Itaewon of all places.”
“Isn’t that cool? Why are you sighing?”
“Speak for yourself, Jisung. Remember last year?” You close your phone now but Jisung’s head still remains on your shoulder. “I don’t want to deal with a lot of drunk college kids again—especially not on a rooftop and not when I really deserve a drink.”
“Nah, I’m sure it won’t be as bad as last year.” He tries to say dismissively but the two of you know exactly know crazy it was last year, especially for Jisung.
“Which is why I told Minho that we buy the alcohol together on Wednesday—so no one does anything too stupid.” You shrug Jisung completely off of your shoulder now since you’re nearing your stop and he complies, caught off-guard with the way you said you and Minho are doing something together. “Okay, Sung, this is my stop.”
You stand up and Jisung almost does the same in his absentminded state. “So are you carpooling with Minho on Saturday?”
“Yeah, I need to do something for my club before going to the party but we’re sending the drinks early in case we’re late.” You say quickly. “Okay, I gotta go. See you this break?”
“Hm, see you.”
When the bus moves again, there is a sinking feeling in Jisung’s stomach until the view of you walking back to your university disappears.
three - a supermarket
You invited Lia to help you and Minho to buy liquor at the nearby supermarket after Minho’s classes, only to find out that Minho brought 3racha along.
“It’s not that I don’t trust your box-carrying skills but I don’t trust your liquor-handling skills.” Minho explains when he sees your surprised expression at seeing Chan wave at you and Lia from the front passenger seat. “That goes literally and figuratively.”
“I mean, I feel the same which is why Lia’s here but, really? You trust Jisung and Changbin with liquor?”
“Hyunjin’s out with someone again and Jeongin might get carded again.” Changbin shrugs from the open passenger seat window.
“Seungmin? Jeongin? Felix?”
“Do you think we’d actually let them touch alcohol until Saturday?” “Right.”
“I’m sure it’s going to be fine. We’re buying for around 50 people right?” Lia asks Minho as the two of you squeeze in the back seat of his car.
“Yeah, so that’s about 6 boxes since the venue’s also providing some drinks.”
“What about snacks?” “Covered by the venue too.”
“How many bottles can fit in 1 box?” You mumble to yourself but Jisung, sitting very closely next to you, hears.
“Around 10 to 15, probably.” He says, startling you.
“Aren’t you supposed to be finishing papers?”
“I already finished them waaaay back.” He smirks at you coolly. “While being a ‘cave man’ at the dorms like you said. You’re supposed to be proud I’m voluntarily going out today.”
He’s too prideful to admit that he finished his remaining work in the 3-day window you didn’t see each other so he can tag along today.
-
At the supermarket, you split up in teams, each with two baskets to fill. Changbin and Lia head off to the liquor store outside the main supermarket while Minho and Chan go to the liquor aisle inside the supermarket. You and Jisung, on the other hand, stick together, browsing the other aisles instead after being in the same liquor aisle but at different sections with Minho and Chan. No reason, you both just felt like it.
“Do you think we have enough budget to sneak in a bag of candies?” You think out loud, holding a bag of mint candies from the shelf. “I’m not sure if I want this one but Minho likes it.”
“Minho probably wouldn’t notice—maybe he’ll even think he put that in himself.” Jisung says, standing really close to you and examining the candies himself. Your two baskets of alcohol bottles are half-forgotten to the side. “Why do you even want to buy candies for him? If you want it, though I can buy it for you.”
You give him a skeptical look, only then noticing how easily your shoulders brush against each other. “Why are you standing really close?” You voice your observation out loud, making him turn his head to you with a pout. “I mean sure go ahead but you’re literally blocking the light.”
“I can’t?” To emphasis, he leans some of his body weight to you, just enough to make you hold onto him by his arm at the feeling that you’ll tip over if you don’t. Succeeding, he smirk triumphantly and takes your hand off of his arm so that he can put in on your shoulder. “Y/N, I missed youuu.”
“We saw each other 3 days ago.” You huff, more to yourself than to him because he really is making you nervous. “You’re so clingy today, that’s my job!”
“Sus, I can’t miss you after 3 days now? When it’s already my break and you’re still attending some classes?” He pouts, holding his arms open. “Come here.”
“What? Why?” At this point, you’re just getting a serious whiplash from his sudden clinginess. That’s my job, how dare he?
When you don’t budge, eyes still narrowed at him, he moves forward himself, trapping you in a hug. “I want to hug you, idiot.”
“What if I don’t want to?” “I’m still hugging you.”
You simply give in this time, the two of you just standing there until Chan passed by to get Minho candies.
“Dudes, come on, we’re buying alcohol.” He reminds with an amused smile, snatching the bag of mint candies from your grasp. “Get moving, lovebirds.”
“We’re n—“ “We’ll be right there.”
You pretend on swinging a bag of gummy bears at him. When he asks you why, you only run back to the liquor aisle to meet Chan and Minho.
-
More bickering, some alcoholic jokes, and the woman at the check-out counter asking for your I.D.s later, the 6 of you rest and eat ice cream at a parlour near the check-out before leaving, your boxes of alcohol carefully placed together at the end of your table.
“So how many people are actually going?” Lia asks Chan over her chocolate ice cream.
“Around thirty-people already responded to the invite.” Chan answers. You wince every time he bites his ice cream. Every person to themselves but biting ice cream is just a no for you. “When the Friday show airs, hopefully more people go.”
“We had 100 people last year, right?”
“That’s because these geniuses thought they can handle a hundred drunks at a house party.” You recall the chaotically eventful party last year. “We’re cutting in half since we’re at a rooftop party and I don’t want to see people jumping off the 4th floor.”
“Also since not a lot of people dress up.” Jisung frowns. The party has always been a costume party when it started 3 years ago but somehow, a lot of the guests you’re not particularly close with always show up in the bare minimum.
“Ooh, what are you guys dressing up as this year?” Minho asks, suddenly excited at the topic of costumes.
“Might just go as a vampire again this year since I won’t have much time preparing this Saturday.” You frown.
“Hey, I wanted to go as a vampire!” Chan complains.
“You already went as a vampire last year! Can we not match again?”
“What about you Minho?” Lia asks, disinterested in your bicker with Chan.
“I haven’t decided yet.” He shrugs. “Ask Jisung.”
Lia turns to Jisung who enthusiastically answers, “It’s a surprise!”
“It’s probably the horse head again.” You roll your eyes, knowing his enthusiasm very well. “But we’re just going to pretend that it’s a surprise on Saturday.”
“You better do.” Jisung pouts.
“Have you even washed that horse mask since last year?” Minho narrows his eyes at the younger boy.
You yourself didn’t even expect that he’d keep it for this year especially after what happened.
Yikes.
“Minho, you know I do! I take it out sometimes to scare Hyunjin’s dates!”
-
You head to the events place in Itaewon after. From the photos in your groupchat, it’s an average-sized building in relation to the others in this particular district, holding a convenience store on the first floor, a BBQ place on the 2nd floor, and miscellaneous offices on the 3rd—one of which rents the rooftop for events.
“So why did we have to buy drinks at the supermarket again?” Changbin asks, still trying to catch his breath from carrying so many boxes of alcohol.
“Because supermarket alcohol is slightly better than convenience store ones.” You answer matter-of-factly. “It’s semester break and Halloween. Indulge a little, Binnie.”
“Y/N has plans to get wasted.” Jisung spoils to everyone, making you call out his name from the front seat. You asked to exchanged seats with Chan after loading the boxes at the back of the car so you can have a run through of the food and drinks. Throughout the whole ride, he’s been hell-bent on exposing you.
“Then it’s counterproductive to buy those hard drinks.”
“Who says I’m sharing them?” You chuckle. You didn’t expect that anyone but Jisung would notice that you bought smaller drinks for yourself.
Then the car is quiet for a while sans the music playing from Jisung’s phone which you immediately recognized as one of the playlists 3racha played on a broadcast before.
When you get stuck in temporary traffic on the last intersection before the venue, you then turn to Minho. “Minho, aren’t you afraid of heights? Is 4 floors okay?”
Glancing at Minho for a response, he nods while still looking at the road. “The place’s really nice in person. I went with Seungmin yesterday.”
“If you say it’s nice then I’d probably feel guilty of letting people trash the place this weekend.” Because it’s true, if Lee Minho calls something nice or pretty, it’s really really nice or pretty.
“It’s really spacious so you don’t have to stare at the ground below all the time, lots of picnic chairs and tables with the big-ass umbrellas, fairy lights, and a sound system when people want to karaoke or need mics.”
“Ah, yes, very much of Seungmin’s aesthetic.”
“I’d like to be acknowledged too, thank you.” Changbin says from your rear view mirror view.
“Thank you Changbin.” You tease him with a laugh. “What did you like about the place?”
And before Changbin could even answer seriously, the rest of the car answers in chorus, “There are lots of glitter and foil decorations.” before breaking into laughter.
“There are beach props too! There’s fake grass and everything so it looks cheerful!” Changbin defends but to no avail because you only end up laughing. “Seungmin didn’t like it but I insisted that we borrow it for the party.”
You arrive at the building afterward, handing the alcohol to the staff on their 3rd floor office and finalizing the food you’re going to have on the party.
“We’ll see you on Saturday night, then?” The owner of the building confirms once you’ve covered all the inquiries you have.
Chan nods. “Me and the guy who booked the place, Seungmin, will be here first on Saturday night around 6 PM.”
“What are you doing at 6 PM that you have to be late on Saturday?” Jisung whispers next to you, diverting your attention from looking at the view next to you to him as he looks at you expectantly.
“Cramming a poster while waiting for a club meeting.” You frown. “Not everyone had their school day on Friday.”
“Can’t you skip?”
“Hm? Why?” You nudge his shoulder, as if trying to take out the pouty expression he wears on his face. “I told you I’m carpooling with Minho on that day so it’s fine.”
“But stiiill. I won’t save your alcohol.”
“No need, I already asked Seungmin to do it...and even asked Felix to watch you before I get here.”
“What did you bribe those two with?”
“Tickets to Lotte world.”
Jisung narrows his eyes at you but he’s thoroughly impressed. “You’re too smart.”
“I have to outsmart you somehow when it comes to doing something stupid.” You shrug with a chuckle. “Plus, traffic’s really heavy on Saturday since everyone’s going home that day.”
“You really should just ditch club.” He shrugs. “It’s the last day anyway.”
“I can’t, dumbass, that’s part of my grade. Really, it’s fine, at least I’m with Minho on that day so we can be late together.”
Before Jisung could argue further, however, Lia approaches the two of you. “Ready to go, guys?”
four - a rooftop party
Sometimes, you hate it when Jisung is right. Turns out, the meeting you had for your club was relatively pointless and could’ve just been discussed over e-mail or your club groupchat. Still, it ended at around 9:15 PM because most of your club mates arrived later than the 7:35 PM you agreed on and the stubborn president didn’t want to start the meeting until everyone was there.
Still, you passed your posters (which you definitely crammed at the school library prior) and made a lot of suggestions during the meeting which felt rewarding enough to make up for the frustrations you can’t vocally tell your seniors over causing a lot of inconveniences to your meeting. Just think that’s going to be you in a few years, Y/N, so try to understand, you think to yourself as you return to an empty dorm. Ryujin already informed you over text that she and Lia already left with Yeji to pick up Chaeryeong from her university.
“Now, for costume.” You mumble under your breath, heading straight to your room.
After much thought on which black clothes to wear, you got dressed quickly to attend to your make-up faster. Since you’re a vampire again like last year, you have to put in more effort on your hair and make-up—you’re definitely not winning best costume but at least you look decent (and definitely not wearing the same clothes from last year) for the endless pictures Hyunjin’s going to take of everyone later.
When you’re already halfway to your make-up, Minho decides on spamming you, your phone lighting up and displaying 9:58 PM. Shit.
minho: here!!!
minho: traffic still heavy
minho: chan asked for reinforcements btw
minho: so were stopping at d mart
minho: pls don’t tell me ur putting make-up blood on ur face [sent 10:03 PM]
You groan, typing a quick “i am” reply to his last message before quickly finishing your make-up and heading out.
y/n: ok otw [sent 10:06 PM]
You quickly spot Minho’s car right outside of your dorm, his tinted windows rolling down as you approach. Opening the car, your eyes widen in brief surprise before crinkling into a laugh as you get in and close the door. “W-what the...what the fuck, Minho?”
“Don’t.” He holds a threatening finger up in front of your face, putting his hand back on the steering wheel as you drive away from your dorm. But even he stifles from his own laughter. “The kids asked that we buy 10 more bottles of the whiskey Chan picked out since Hyunjin made cocktails with it and a lot of people want more.”
“W—wh...sorry, it’s just that I can’t concentrate when you’re looking like this.” You end up laughing for the rest of your first 2 minutes inside the car and almost forgetting what you were going to ask.
This year, Minho is a Korean traditional woman for Halloween.
“So,” You start when you’ve recovered, holding a hand to your chest to steady your breathing. “So, are you going out to the mart or do I have to sacrifice myself?”
“You can air drop the pic of the whiskey brand on your phone.” He answers.
You sigh, putting on a jacket you find on the back seat to cover your exposed torso for when you go out to the supermarket.
-
At the supermarket, people only gave you brief stares because of the fake blood dripping from your chin to your collarbones before their attentions turned to another person (probably from another Halloween party) dressed as a literal YouTube video picking up snacks. Though you’re relieved, you made your exit quick after your purchase, pushing the cart as fast as you can to the nearby parking spot Minho’s car occupied, because your phone suddenly started ringing from consecutive messages from Jisung, of all people.
jisung: y/n where r uuuu
jisung: party started at 6! 6!
jisung: seungmin playing truth or drink
jisung: changbin singing at karaoke
jisung: also i drank ur mules
jisung: n ur peach sojus
jisung: but i shared w felix! [sent 10:25 PM]
You sigh, particularly at reading the last message after successfully loading your box of whiskey at the back of the car. You were too hopeful trusting even Seungmin and Felix.
y/n: otw w minho [sent 10:25 PM]
“Jisung’s really drunk again.” You inform Minho once you’re on the road again. “I can’t even trust Seungmin or Felix now.”
“Well, you’ll have to keep texting him because the traffic going to Itaewon doesn’t seem to be moving.” Minho sighs. “You know he’ll sleep dehydrated if he’s that bored by himself to text you.”
You groan. “No shortcuts?”
“Even the shortcuts are flooded. I swear, everyone’s travelling home or partying tonight.”
You lean back on your seat, taking a few deep breaths. If there’s anyone that shouldn’t be left alone at a party, it’s one Han Jisung.
-
At the party, Jisung sits at the bar, accompanying Hyunjin as he re-discovers his drunken talent of mixing cocktails. He scrolls through his phone absentmindedly with the occasional sips of the peach soju he’s been struggling to finish for 20 minutes now, having no motivation to join Changbin and Felix at the karaoke or Chan, Jeongin, and Seungmin playing more drinking games with most of the guests.
“Jisung, you’re sulking.” Hyunjin points out as he gives another guest his new cocktail recipe.
“No, I’m not.” Jisung frowns and hiccups through his big horse mask even when the older boy can’t actually see.
“You’ve been in there for the past 20 minutes.” Hyunjin knocks on Jisung’s horse mask for emphasis. He’s no better, actually, dressing up as a big giraffe head since Felix decided to be the Joker this year. “Literally the last time I saw your face, you were texting Y/N.”
“Y/NNNN! Why aren’t Y/N and Minho here yet? I want to see Y/NNNNN!”
“Well, it’s traffic out.” At the very end of the bar, Hyunjin can see the heavy traffic below. “Everyone’s going home or eating out tonight.”
“But I want Y/NNN!” Jisung is fumbling around now, narrowly missing his bottle of peach soju since the horse mask doesn’t have a good view from the weird eyes. “Where is Y/N?”
Though his friend is incredibly drunk now, the tipsy Hyunjin still tries to keep a decent conversation so Jisung doesn’t accidentally fall asleep on his mask again. “You saw each other a lot the past weeks, though? Unlike when it’s a regular school week and you barely reply to them on chat.”
“But that’s because I’m not as busy then as I was this semester.” Jisung manages to slur after a while before momentarily taking his horse mask off just enough for him to take a long sip of his peach soju with a metal straw he found somewhere in his backpack a while ago. “I miss Y/N when I’m busy.”
“What about when you’re not busy?” “I also miss them when I’m busy.”
Hyunjin sighs. “Just say you have a crush on them and go.”
And he’s not sure if Jisung actually heard him but the boy replies with a muffled sigh. “Having a crush from people in different universities is hard!”
-
You open your phone to check the time, the twelfth time you’ve done so in the past hour since you’ve been stuck in the now moving traffic. Eleven-twenty PM on the dot, the party could either be still in full swing with everyone drunk off their asses or dying down with everyone drunk off their asses—either way, most of the liquor are probably gone now (even the one you asked Seungmin to guard for you) and the reinforcement’s probably not a good idea already. Next to you, Minho sighs, “Not that it’s annoying but you keep checking your phone and frowning every time you do. It’s scary, especially since you look more like a depressed vampire than a slutty one.”
“Thanks, Minho.” You roll your yes, closing your phone and putting it down on your lap.
“You’re really that excited much to see your boyfriend?”
You glare daggers through his side profile. “He’s not my boyfriend and I’m more worried than excited because he’s really bad at drinking. Remember last year—”
“It wasn’t that b—”
“Minho, he was crying because he thought his mask was stuck on his head.”
“But—” “He also tried drinking soju while crying and wearing his mask.”
Knowing he’s on the losing side of the argument, Minho waves his hand dismissively, eyes still on the road. The traffic’s moving steady now. “Anyway, there’s 50 people there someone has to be sober-ish somehow.”
“Uh huh, sure, someone is.” You reply dryly. Though this party has a larger attendance list than your friend group’s usual hangouts since it’s your annual Halloween party, you can’t help but remain distrustful. Your friends aka the worst drunks ever are hosting, for God’s sake.
“Why don’t you text someone so you’d feel less nervous?” Minho suggests after a while.
And this time, you actually listen to him and open your phone again, opting to text Chan.
y/n: y’all still alive?
y/n: we’re about to turn right to the venue [sent 11:28 PM]
chan: shit’s lit!!!!!!
“Yup, even Chan’s drunk.” You conclude, closing your phone as Minho pulls up to the building. Minho sighs for probably the nth time tonight, exiting the car when you do. “Come on, ahjumma, we’re checking if our friends are still alive.”
-
Arriving at the party by the service elevator the staff kindly showed you, you almost kicked the box of whiskey bottles you placed on the ground in surprise once the doors opened and Chan greeted you dressed as a clown. “Finally, you’ve arrived!” He exclaims through his semi-faded white make-up and red nose, completely ignoring the way you just had the shock of your life. “Here, let me help you with the whiskey.”
You recover quickly, helping Minho and Chan lift the box to the nearby bar where Hyunjin is still busy mixing drinks. “Chan, why are you dressed as a clown?”
“Twitter poll.” He answers nonchalantly. “You should see Jeongin, he’s a life-size bread.”
Carefully setting the box on the ground for Hyunjin (who is more than grateful that the whiskey finally arrived), your expression returns to that of concern. “So, where’s Jisung?”
“Oh, he said he was going to take pictures by the railings with the good view.” Hyunjin shrugs. Panic sets on your face. “Don’t worry! There’s like a lot of people there right now! And I gave him water a while ago!”
You swip a bottle of peach soju and a bottle of water you saw hidden expertly under the counter from your view on the ground, sighing. “I swear to God, you guys are the worst hosts ever.”
And so you set out to find Jisung amidst the most random crowd of costumes ever. You spot Changbin dressed as Kim Shin and a Joker Felix still competing for higher scores on the karaoke and passed by baguette Jeongin and sunflower Seungmin who are now hosting a very drunken Whisper Challenge with your seniors, Younghyun who wears a big report card on his neck, Jae who’s dressed in Chicken Little’s clothes, Snow White Sana, and a pirate Jeongyeon.
If it’s any consolation, at least people dressed up better this year compared to last year.
“Ryujin, have you seen Jisung?” You near the viewing area on the other side of the rooftop where the light gets progressively fewer.
“He’s over there.” Your roommate points to an empty area with only a few tables and outdoor lights.
“Where?”
“Oh, he’s laying down somewhere. He’s still wearing the horse mask if that helps.”
“Thank you!” You part ways as you open your phone, turning on the flashlight to find Jisung.
From your area of the rooftop, the EDM music Chan mixed for this party already sounds faint and the traffic below sounds louder. You point your flashlight on the ground but also look ahead for any shadow of a horse mask.
“Han Jisung.” You call for him in a loud whisper, in case he fell asleep since he’s sound-sensitive when drunk. “Yah, I swear to God, we’re not hosting another party again if you’re dead somewhere.”
You repeat this a few times, changing baseless threats in hopes that it alerts him, until you find him raising a hand up in the air. “Here.” He responds tiredly to you, his voice not muffled by a mask this time as he’s long set it down next to him. He spots you immediately, illuminated by the garden lights. “You look pretty.”
“Thanks?” You approach carefully, pointing your flashlight away from his face and kneeling beside him. “Why are you laying down on the ground?”
You contemplate on laying down next to him but then you remember that you left your jacket in Minho’s car at the thought that the denim doesn’t go with your all-black ensemble. The bare floor’s already cold on your bare legs, how much more on your exposed back? “Anyway, drink this water later.”
But Jisung seems to ignore you, pushing you gently away by your arm. “I’m looking at the stars, Y/N, move over.” He groans. “Turn the light off too.”
You scoff. “You can’t see the stars—” But as you look up at the purple night sky, you see countless of twinkling stars. Caught off guard, you turn your light off. “—here. Oh.”
“Do you want to lay down?” When you turn to look back down at Jisung, he’s already sitting up slowly. Moving away a little so that you’re not in his way, he then takes his jacket off and places it on the ground. “You can use my jacket. It’s fine.”
You hand him your water bottle and place your peach soju next to his horse mask. “Sure...” Reluctantly, you lay down on Jisung’s jacket.
Jisung chugs down half of the water before laying down again, next to you this time.
“Aren’t you cold?” You ask, sparing a glance in his direction as you do so. Jisung only shakes his head.
“I thought you’d never come.” He pouts, still looking at the stars. He’s slowly sobering up now, making it harder to look at you in the eye.
“Traffic.” You heave a long sigh. “Hyunjin also made Minho and I buy extra drinks.”
It’s silent for a moment, you glance at Jisung for the second time to check if he’s fallen asleep again but you see a very concentrated expression on his face as he looks at the stars. “Are you still drunk?” You shake his arm, immediately getting his attention.
“Do you like Minho?” He suddenly blurts out, catching you off-guard. What makes matters worse is that he didn’t even spare you a glance while.
“What?!” You exclaim. At this point, you just regret not drinking your peach soju before joining him.
“Do you like him? Like like-like as in...hold on, the word like’s getting too redundant here...” In the darkness, Jisung turns beet red the more he looks away from you, not even realizing that you’re equally flushed from trying to hold in your laughter.
Where is this going? You can only think to yourself as he was rambling.
“Jisung, I only like Minho when he offers carpool and free drinks when we hang out.” You sit up this time, extending your hand out past him to your soju bottle. You’re definitely drinking to this unusual conversation. “Why did you suddenly think I like him?"
You don’t remember doing anything with Minho that would make Jisung think this way.
Leaning even more towards Jisung’s direction, you see a faint glimpse of his embarrassed expression—his hand covering his eyes as he curses under his breath. You drink a little bit more of your peach soju before nudging him with the bottom of the bottle. “What made you say that?”
“No.” He replies as calmly as he can, hand still covering his face. At that moment, he wishes he could put the horse mask back on quickly so he can run away while hiding his face.
You try prying his hand away but to no avail. He looks at you on his own accord a moment later but even then he doesn’t hold eye contact for long.
“It’s silly, just the soju.” He waves his hand dismissively. “Can you lay down again so I don’t have you see your face? Not that the make-up is bad, it’s just really embarrassing when you’re looking down on me like this.”
You chuckle, amused, but comply eventually when you’ve had enough of your soju. Instead of looking up at the stars, however, you turn your body to the side so you’re facing Jisung this time.
“Yah—”
“You said lay down again, I’m laying down.” You tease in between laughs. “Are you seriously not looking at me in the eye?”
“No!” He whispers loudly in a dramatic fashion, taking his horse mask and balancing it on his face to hide from you.
You shrug, flicking his horse mask away easily. “Why are you so embarrassed? Best friends talk about this all the time, it’s normal.” You shrug as you say this next, trying to act nonchalant about it as possible. Internally, you’re still processing where this conversation could go. “I’m just wondering how you came to that conclusion? It sounds weird and gross: Minho and I, I mean.”
Jisung only looks at you quietly for the next 2 minutes, clearly contemplating. “It’s just...” He starts and you hold your breath, realizing that your faces are really close when he turns his head to your side. “Seriously, it’s silly!”
You shrug, as nonchalantly as you can seem. “I want to know, it’s n—”
“Ilikeyou.”
“Hm?” You feel lightheaded, and you definitely feel like you need to pee. Soju works fast that way.
“I like you...” He says, slower and trailing off this time. He thinks you didn’t notice but you caught the way he glanced briefly down at your lips before going back up to your eyes. “Like really really like you; but we’re always running on different schedules since we entered college and we’ve only ever hung out when my deadlines aren’t heavy enough to make you feel guilty to come over until recently.”
“...Is that why you’ve been asking to hang out more this semester?” Jisung nods at the simple question. “You wanted to see me that much?”
“Well, don’t get too cocky now.” He chuckles nervously. Suddenly, he’s overthinking everything, trying to pick apart any hint from the tone of your voice. “Because this would be really really awkward and embarrassing if you keep acting like that then turn me down later.”
Your heart skips a few beat, you’re sure it’s Jisung now and not the soju kicking in. “Who said...who said anything about me turning you down?”
Jisung’s thoughts malfunction at this. Suddenly, he’s taking too slow to process anything again. You roll your eyes at this. “Do I have to say it?”
“...yes?”
You scrunch up your face in distaste but Jisung doesn’t laugh, making you sigh. “Fuck it, fine.” You take a deep breath, slowly following your words with, “I like you too, Jisung.”
You look at him expectantly and he returns your gaze with one of disbelief. “R-really?”
“I just said it, didn’t I?” You flick his forehead.
“Can I—”
He leans forward but you stop him with a hand in between the two of you. “You smell like alcohol.” You whine, pushing him away slightly.
“But we’re in the dark, under the stars, sorta drunk at a Halloween party; naturally, the next thing that follows is—”
“Ew, Jisung, gross!” You push him away completely but he only resists, managing to hug you with one arm.
“You can say that all you want but you already said that you like me too.” Slowly, he gains his confidence back which only just makes you squirm more.
“Yeah, but you said it first.” You give up from squirming in his grip, realizing that it’s warmer than letting your torso be exposed to the cold for another second. “If anything, I actually have the upper hand here.”
He shrugs. “So? I actually like saying it. I like you, I like you, I like you...” You open your mouth slightly to comment but he takes this as an opportunity to press a long kiss to your lips. “I like you. There.”

Writerly Ephemera
I was tagged by @amywaterwings @mostlymaudlin @tea-brigade @effing-numpties @captain-aralias @bloodiedpixie . This is so cool, so thanks for sharing yours! ❤️
Per Amy: We add little bits of ourselves to our writing, scattering memories and places and phrases and things into our stories. The game is to find five examples of this, of YOU, in your writing and show everyone.
I don’t really feel like I put much of my own experiences into my fic, probably because I don’t feel like I have a lot of experiences to pull from. (That’s not me being self-deprecating; that’s me never going anywhere or doing anything.) So, let’s see what we come up with!
Going to tag here. I feel like I’ve gotten to this late so I’m not sure who has been tagged. Anyway. No pressure, loves. Just saying hi. 🥰 @theflyingpeach @bazzybelle @otherworldsivelivedin @unseelieseelie @wetheformidables @caitybug @nightimedreamersworld @foolofabookwyrm @stillmadaboutpetra
1. I have put the most of myself into A Man of Letters. I have my degree in English Lit and when I was in college, I was at the height of my Jane Austen obsession. So I sort of built my degree around the development of the English novel. My senior thesis was on a book called Evelina by Frances Burney, who was one of Austen’s greatest literary influences. Evelina is an epistolary novel—told entirely in letters. I love the epistolary form, for the same reason I love dialogue and texting fics. It’s such a fun narrative technique and can reveal so much about individual characters. It’s actually a bit like the way Rainbow Rowell uses multi POV in her books. Anyway, my love of the epistle was on full display in this fic, which is ofc told in letters. —Do I share a passage? That’s like...the whole fic 😅 So, idk. Here’s Simon being a disaster as he meditates on letter writing:
Dear Penny,
As I start this letter, I already know I'm not going to post it. I know I won't be able to bring myself to do it, because of what I have to say to you. I do feel bad. It's not that I don't want to tell you. And you know I'm so much better at writing things down than saying them out loud. It's only that I feel like this would all sound better coming from me in person. I just don't think I'll be able to make you understand in a letter. I'm still trying to understand myself. And writing all of this down helps me with that. Even if I'm only pretending to write to you, it makes me feel better, to think of you on the other end. I promise I really will tell you everything as soon as we're together again.
2. Also for A Man of Letters, my fascination with Regency fashions, in particular the dandy, was a major factor. I did an art book about this, comparing how fashion has changed over time, especially in regard to gender. (I also did an art book based on Evelina, since I’m on the subject. I minored in book art. 😁) I always fancied the look of a Regency dandy, so that was my gift to Baz.
Whoever has been working their magic on Salisbury should in fact be the person to whom I offer my eternal devotion. Alas, I am left to flounder under the burden of lusting after a man who is incapable of dressing himself.
The utter and unmitigated shame.
Salisbury wore a forest green wool frock coat that set off the golden highlights in his brown locks. This was accented with a green and aubergine striped silk waistcoat that was trimmed in white piping and felt much too daring a pattern for the man. (I don't care if he was a soldier; it takes a hardier man than him by half to choose a stripe like that.) His charcoal trousers were enticingly snug, but not so much to prove lethal. His cravat and points left much to be desired, though that likely reflected poorly on his ability to keep himself in order, rather than the ability of his valet. (Good God, maybe the man doesn't even have a valet!)
3. When it came to my countdown fic, To the Manor Borne, I had Shep make a reference to Cluedo, because Pitch Manor would be perfect for a real life game. Behind that, is the fact that my family played a lot of Clue and I watched the movie a whole bunch growing up, to the point where my sister and I used to quote it to each other. This was a way to pay homage to that. He also talks about playing the game Murder in the Dark, which was one I played at Halloween as a kid. One of my cousins was dressed as a ghoul with glow in the dark face paint and we were in my grandma’s creepy upstairs. Perfect vibes.
I’ve seen the kitchen and the dining room and the library and the study and the parlor. Walking through this house is like playing Clue. (They call it Cluedo on this side of the pond, because they like to be difficult.) (That was a whole thing. Do not get me started.)
I keep thinking Colonel Mustard’s going to pop up out of nowhere and brain me with a lead pipe.
And:
What kind of games do you play with magickal friends who don't have magic? Twister? Not with the wings and tail. Cards? Baz and Penny would cheat. Or accuse everyone else of cheating if they didn't win. Murder in the dark? With these people, in this house, I knew it would turn literal fast, and also it was like ten in the morning. Hide and seek? Simon and I would hide and everyone else would ditch. Snowball fight? World War III.
4. I’ve referenced Mozart in my fics a couple of times because when I was first getting into classical music, I was listening to a lot of Mozart. My sister had a CD of some of his early symphonies, and my local classical station does “Mozart in the Mornings” which happened to fit in the exact time slot between two morning classes I had my first year in college. I’d go sit in my car with a cup of tea, and just vibe with Mozart as my soundtrack. I’ve name dropped him in both A Man of Letters and To the Manor Borne. Also, Mozart wrote 12 variations on the melody shared by Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, which is a lovely tie in. (I also had the gang sing/cast The Holly and the Ivy, which is one of my favorite Christmas carols, and by strange coincidence was playing on the radio at the same time I wrote that scene. 🥰)
"It's a songbook," I tell him, like he can't figure that out for himself. "Did you know that Mozart wrote twelve different versions of the same song?"
He's laughing. "Mozart did not write Twinkle, twinkle, little star, Simon."
"You know what I mean."
"He composed twelve variations for solo piano on the French folk melody Ah! Vous dirai-je, maman."
"Sure. Anyway, this is for the violin. For you to play."
He's still laughing, and I'm trying to figure out what's so funny, but then he kisses me again, on the lips this time, so I figure maybe I'm still doing okay.
Only one more to go! What will it be? 👀
5. Therapy! Eheheh...😅 Look, it’s no secret the gang needs it. And tbh, so do I. Haven’t actually managed to get myself to go yet, and I think that’s where a lot of my “send them to therapy” happy endings come from. I did it in Use Your Words and To the Manor Borne. I started Chamber by Chamber with SnowBaz already in therapy, and then structured the whole thing around therapy that they give to each other and to themselves. It didn’t really fit in A Man of Letters, but if it had, I absolutely would have done it. I’ve only shared from two fics so far, and since it could kind of spoil the ending to Use Your Words (tho saying this may be spoiler anyway...), here are two snippets from It’s a Kind of Magic, Part I of Chamber by Chamber.
I've been working on articulating my needs. We both have. Ordinarily, I'd be afraid of pushing him away by making demands when he's on the verge of a spiral, but my therapist insists that I can't go on treating Simon with kid gloves. If I never ask him for anything, he'll think he doesn't have anything to give.
And
When I told that to my therapist, she said that I needed to talk it out of me and she'd help me find ways to work through it all. She said I needed to talk it out with Baz, too, so that he'd know how to help me when things got bad again—that was something else she said, that things would get bad again, and that I'd need to be prepared for that. That I couldn't expect things to be easy, and just go away.
6. BONUS! I think the biggest way I include bits of myself is in the AUs I’ve chosen to write. I have three I’m planning that say a lot about me, so I’m going to talk a bit about them here. There is ofc my Scooby Doo AU, inspired in large part by the fact that I watched it all the time growing up and also, my sister continues to be obsessed with it. When we were young, my parents were doing a lot of work on their house and we’d take family trips to the hardware store. My sister and I hated it, so we’d wait in the car with my mom and she would entertain us with “Scooby Doo stories”. Other AUs I’m planning? Troop Beverly Hills—please tell me someone else out there loved this movie the way I did when I was 5. It was very influential to baby me and I remember wishing for nothing more than being able to dress like Shelley Long. So, I’m going to let Baz do it, because I think he deserves it. 🥰 Lastly, tho it will probably be the first I write, is my Cupid and Psyche AU, from when I was heavy into mythology and religion. Since these are all forthcoming projects, I don’t really have a snippet. Instead, here’s Baz comparing Simon to Eros, which is what started my brain on that particular AU.
I am lost. I barely know anything about Salisbury, but I can't help being drawn in. At one time, I could have comforted myself that I was only so smitten with him because he looks like he was sculpted by Praxiteles. That excuse grows weaker with every encounter. He's the furthest thing from a lifeless tribute to beauty in marble as one can be. There is something deep and dark and feral inside of him and I want to claw it out. I want to see it, to let it free. To taste his wildness and his pain.

Office Chaos #1
Hi everyone!! Recently I got into writing again and decided to cross post on here and AO3! If you take the chance to read it I hope you enjoy it <3 This will be part of a series of one shots! Happy Reading <3<3<3
If there was one thing Seokjin could safely say, it was that he was a confident gay. He would always throw a wink or a kiss to baristas, those who held the door open for him, or just anyone within the distance of him if he was feeling particularly playful.
That being said he was also openly gay. In no way shape or form was he afraid or worried about showing the person he truly was. Be it soft pink off-the-shoulder sweaters, a pair of heeled boots that made his bum look like it was carved by the gods (fun fact: it was), or even a black shirt with pastel lettering literally saying (I’m Gay, Suck It).
This was amazing for his social and love life because there was no confusion platonically or sexually. However, a certain middle-aged squat ugly fuckwad who was too dense to realize sooner Seokjin’s sexuality despite all the signs decided to fire him solely for Seokjin giving a customer, a fellow gay, his number.
In his defense, the customer was cute, was hitting on him, and was even interested and gave his own number to Seokjin as well. So all in all, who could blame Seokjin? He was young, horny, and single.
But back to the original issue. He was fired for being himself which led him to where he is now. Walking down the busy streets of Seoul heading to some gaming design company for an interview as a personal assistant to the CEO. It was a major jump from a barista to PA but he had experience… in high school, he was student council president, led three clubs, and even fixed their student budget so that way they could throw a fun concert/overnight party for the graduates.. Okay, maybe that one was a little selfish. It was still experience though! College didn’t exactly go as planned but he still was involved in the radio station and another club… although he couldn’t for the life of him remember what the club was about.
As he arrived in front of the building he could feel his heart beating against his rib cage just the tiniest bit more. He was confident though, he could do this. It would be a breeze. Throw a wink or kiss at whoever was interviewing him, talk about his experience, talk up himself and his abilities, then leave with the job and start the following Monday.
Walking inside of the building left him just the slightest breathless. Fuck. Who designed this building? Who PAID for the building? Or the interior decorating? As he tried calculating it in his head he vaguely heard someone clearing their throat but didn’t pay it any attention. After a few more minutes he finally snapped out of his calculations when the throat-clearing wouldn’t stop. He was two seconds from shoving a glass of water down the person’s throat only to look around and realize the throat-clearing had been directed at him.
With a guilty smile flashed towards the main receptionist, Seokjin finally made his way up to the desk gripping the strap of his bag even tighter.
“Kim Seokjin? I’m here for an interview with a Mr. Kim? For his personal assistant?” Despite the flash of nervousness when he was caught staring into space he quickly put the confident smile back on. The receptionist seemed less than pleased though.
“Elevator down the hall to the right. Floor 35. Park Jimin will help you from there. Try not to stare off into space again, yes?” With a sinister smirk, the lady lifted her hand just to point down the hallway and Seokjin took that as a dismissal which is exactly what it was. It didn’t stop him from mumbling down the hallway the whole time though.
“Honestly? With that kind of attitude, it’s amazing someone hasn’t dumped their coffee over her by… accident... “ Once inside the elevator he hit the button for the 35th floor and listened to the boring music as the numbers flashed above the elevator doors showing what floor it just passed. Once the doors opened for the 35th floor he took a deep breath and stepped out.
Immediately he noticed an adorable guy, younger than him with bubblegum pink hair and the cutest smile when his eyes crinkled. Okay, maybe this place wasn’t all bad. That was until he heard a deep voice shouting, seemingly the pink-haired man’s name if the way his head snapped over was any indication, and then there was a body colliding with his sending him straight to the floor with the other man on top of him.
“Kim Taehyung!! You need to watch where you are going!!” Pink-haired guy’s voice rang out. Seokjin wouldn’t be surprised if the entire floor didn’t hear the shrill yell. Which seemed plausible as there were four other heads that poked out from different rooms like little peeping parrots. Well, this was turning out to be quite the impression to leave on the people he would hopefully soon be working with.
“Sorry, Jiminie! But!! We got the house! I just got the email and we can close on the house today but we have to be there within the next hour!”
“Taehyung I swear on Yoongi’s new laptop th-”
“Don’t be swearing on my things Park Jimin! I will skin you alive!!” A voice seemingly coming from nowhere yelled in offense.
“... that you better be telling the truth or else I will make you sleep our on the balcony for the rest of the week.”
“It’s real. Like really real. The realest real you can really real kind of real! But we have to GO. NOW!”
“Okay okay! Fuck. I gu-.. Oh… Hello there. I uh… kinda forgot you got thrown to the ground in the process. I hope you aren’t injured? No injuries right? Taehyung can’t afford to be sued we are closing on a house today. Uh… if I make Namjoon Hyung give you the job would you be willing to forget this entire mess? He still owes me because of that ridiculous picture I took of him a few weeks ago when he decided to get shit-faced.”
It was official. Seokjin clearly hit his head too hard on the floor and now he was in some kind of dream drama. Shouldn’t the drama involve some super hot guy? A best friend who has his own issues but they support each other no matter what? What about the chaotic couple who he questions how they are still alive? Well… he might have found the chaotic couple. But that didn’t mean anything else. Once he realized he was being spoken to he had to blink a couple of times in order to clear his head and only vaguely caught the end.
“You… you would force your boss to give me the job just so I don’t sue the guy who knocked my ass to the ground? What if I tell you I wasn’t planning on suing him anyway? Although it did kind of hurt but if you could still get your boss to give me the job that would be fantastic and I would kiss the floor you walk on because this job is desperately needed and I’m too handsome to be walking from building to building begging for a job.”
Finally getting up from the ground he rubbed the back of his head where it hit the floor before fixing the wrinkles in his shirt. As he finished getting straightened (HA) out again another deep voice that was almost addicting echoed from down the hall along with heavy footsteps and deep down Seokjin just KNEW that the person coming towards him was the big boss. AKA the one who would hopefully be signing his checks if he got the job. Before he could utter a single word bubblegum hair spoke up again.
“Namjoon Hyung! This is Kim Seokjin, your new personal assistant. Long story short, Me and Tae got the house but in his excitement he kind of barreled into your new assistant here and sent him hurtling towards the floor, and because I’m a good honest person I told him I would assure him the job.”
Namjoon stared at bubblegum hair, Jimin?? In what seemed like absolute boredom like this was a daily occurrence. Well then again, it might be. Things were already more than a little chaotic but chaos is where Jin thrived.
“Jimin. You can’t just give people jobs because Taehyung knocked them down. You have so far given away a car, an apartment, a date, a fashion shopping spree, and part of your investment in the company which I was thankfully able to get back all because Tae didn’t watch where he was going. You know, apologizing in a HEARTFELT way will do the job nine out of ten times.”
“Okay you may speak some facts but I already gave the job to Seokjin and I already read over his resume. He seems like he can tolerate you well enough and you need an assistant to start ASAP because Tae and I have to go sign for the house okay hyung? Make sure you show him the ropes and don’t fuck it up! Bye!!”
With that Seokjin and Namjoon stared as Jimin dragged Taehyung along into the elevator with a cheeky smile and flirty wave before the elevator doors closed on the image that left the pair sputtering.
“Well… I guess they won’t be back till tomorrow afternoon. At least all my morning meetings are finished so I shouldn’t have to worry too much. Ah. Kim Seokjin-sii I apologize for the uh..”
“Chaos?” Jin supplied with a cheeky grin of his own.
“I suppose that is the best possible term for what happens on the 35th floor. Since Jimin already gave you the job I am in no way able to deny it and if I’m being honest I am in desperate need of an assistant as all my paperwork is piling up and I’m not sure where the mailroom is or where the place I normally get coffee from is and the coffee here is made by my director of media and he makes it as black as his soul is what he says at least and no amount of sugar makes it any better.”
And that’s when it happened. When Jin went from being the confident flirty gay to the shy flustered panicked gay that he always read about in stories. Namjoon smiled and he had dimples. Fucking dimples. There was no way the man standing in front of him was real. Tall, handsome, successful, understanding, kind, big hands, muscled if the fabric fighting for its life stretched over Namjoon’s biceps and thighs were anything to go by, and he had fucking D I M P L E S. Who did this Kim Namjoon think he was? God? Actually, that may be true. It wasn’t until he realized he was about to suffocate did Seokjin exhale the air he was holding in before stuttering out a hasty reply.
“Assistant? Now? Like now now? Me? For you? Coffee? I’m good with coffee and with paperwork. Yeah. I can 100% do that for you, Mr. Kim. And there is no need for formalities you can just simply call me Jin as I will be working closely with you. With you. Closely. Working. Yeah. Now?”
Seokjin knew the second the last syllable left his mouth that he was an idiot. A certified idiot who shouldn’t be allowed to be the personal assistant for a business of Namjoon’s caliber but like hell, he was going to give up the opportunity to get to know the taller man and completely wow him. Fuck was he even gay? It didn’t even matter. He could figure that out later down the line but first…
“Just tell me where to sign Mr. Kim and we can begin our new… partnership as boss and assistant. I promise I’ll do everything to learn the ropes quickly to help make your life a little less hectic.”
“Namjoon is just fine Jin. Even though I’m your boss I like to keep a close relationship with those who work close with me. You will find everyone on this floor is on a first name basis and the chaos is real and alive everyday.” And there were those fucking dimples again.
Maybe Seokjin needed to send a gift basket to his homophobic ex-boss because this new adventure at Kim. Co was going to be fun.
Chaos and all.

Road Tripping (Rafe x Reader)
A/N: Okay so this is going to be my last Rafe fic for a while because I have a ton of JJ requests and a Kiara request in my inbox at the moment! Enjoy this last piece of Rafe! Also, I didn’t really like this much, but it was really the best I could do. It was really hard trying to create a “new Rafe” (if you can call it that).
Pairing: Rafe x Reader
Word count: 2,422
Request: maybe in an AU where Rafe semi tolerates the Pogues lol but him and the reader maybe have a little bit more tension or something between them. They all go on a road trip (maybe somewhere snowy??) and Rafe and reader are stuck sitting next to each other, rooming together, etc. - he watches her goof off and have fun the whole weekend + somehow they end up realizing they’d be good “friends” (deep down both kind of wanting more than that 🥺)
Summary: In an AU where Rafe is more like Sarah than Ward, the Pogues and Rafe head out on a road trip to celebrate the fact that they had the gold. Here, Rafe and the reader find themselves bunking together.
Warnings: Nothing, I think.
ROAD TRIPPING
The Twinkie smelled of JJ’s and Kie’s weed. The smell made your nose turn up a little as you tried to open a window in the back. Rafe grunted as your arms pressed against his chest when you tired to do so, and softly pushed you back into your seat before opening the window beside him.
“It’s hard to open a window if you have to lean across someone to do so,” Rafe teased you. “You should have just asked me to do it, as I am right beside it.”
You crossed your arms and pouted at his retort as John B and Sarah turned the volume up on the radio.
It was your third day on the road and you completely and utterly sick of it. The only good thing about today was that you were finally going to be arriving at the ski lodge in Colorado where you had planned this trip. And you were so excited to learn how to ski.
Having been a Pogue your whole life meant no money. No money for trips outside of the island, no money for expensive sports, and no money for basic necessities sometimes. You, Pope, John B, and JJ knew about these struggles all too well.
Rafe, Sarah, and Kie, on the other hand, had already been skiing before and knew exactly what to do.
The trip had been planned by the Pogues, which meant everybody except for Rafe, about three months ago. It had been the middle of autumn when you had finally gotten hold of the gold and managed to change some of it for money. You had exclaimed that you should have a road trip together and everybody jumped up in agreement. Which led you to where you were now.
Everybody had paid for their part of the trip and was ready to head out in a week when Sarah had approached the group with some bad news.
“Rose said she would only let me go if Rafe came, too.”
Everybody groaned. Sure, we all tolerated Rafe, but that didn’t mean that we wanted to go on the road trip for the Pogues with him.
Rafe was tolerable at most. He had helped you guys get the gold from his father, but that was about where the good in him ended. He had a long history with JJ and John B which consisted of many fistfights and screaming matches. Those had stopped after he had helped the Pogues out, but it didn’t mean that the tension between him and the tight-knit group of friends had dissipated.
And so Rafe went on the road trip with all of you. Sarah was beaming in her seat when you had all agreed, and after loading his bags in the back of the Twinkie, you had headed off into the rising sun of that morning.
The Pogues had planned a seating chart to avoid getting into fights with Rafe. It revolved around him, which meant that if he changed his seat, you would all change yours to fit the seating chart. You, being the one that Rafe got along best with, were required to sit next to him at all times. This was decided because, according to Sarah, Rafe had a crush on you and wouldn’t want to get into a fight if you were right next to him.
Begrudgingly, you agreed.
Rafe loved the fact that he was seated next to you. What Sarah had said was true, but he would never admit that to you. He had tried to spark up some conversation with you during the first day that you were traveling, but you had shot him down pretty quickly, preferring to talk to the rest of Pogues.
Rafe, feeling as if he was not very wanted on the trip, plugged his earphones into his ears and shut his mouth. That was how he had been the rest of the time the group was in the Twinkie.
Soon enough, JJ, Kie, and Pope had fallen asleep in the seats behind you. You, on the other hand, were wide awake. You had tried to talk to John B and Sarah, but you realized that they also seemed to be extremely tired.
“John B,” you called out, “Let me drive and you can sleep back here. Rafe and I can take the front seats.”
John B didn’t need to be told twice. You nudged Rafe once the Twinkie had parked at a gas station.
“What?” he asked pulling one of his earphones out of his ear.
“C’mon,” you told him, opening the door, “I’m driving and I need you to talk to me while I drive. Plus, Sarah and John B are tired so they’re sleeping back here.”
Rafe only nodded and followed you out, letting his sister and her boyfriend lay on the seats that had been occupied by him and his crush.
Buckling up, you turned the car on and pulled onto the interstate. The music coming from the radio was bothering you, so you turned the radio off. Rafe sat in the passenger’s seat quietly, shuffling his hands.
“Rafe,” you said, gaining his attention.
“Uh, yeah?”
“When I said I needed you to talk to me I meant it.”
“Oh,” was all he could think of to say.
You sat in silence for a couple of minutes until you sighed and said, “Rafe, how old are you again?”
“Nineteen.”
You nodded. “What college do you go to?”
“Chapel Hill,” he began. “My dad went there. And my grandfather, too. So it was obvious I had to go there, too.”
You frowned at that as you swerved onto the left lane. “It isn’t obvious. You could have gone anywhere else to college.”
Rafe laughed. He looked at you and explained, “My dad would have had a heart attack if I went anywhere else.”
You nodded as if you understood, checking your mirrors before braking a bit.
“Have you thought about where you want to study?”
You processed his question and tried to think of an answer. Truth was, you didn’t have one. “College was never an option for me. Well, not until now.”
Rafe nodded as if he understood. “Well, have you thought about what you might like to study?”
You smiled thinking of all the things you liked. There was one that stood out to you. “I like writing. And art. And a lot of other things, but mostly writing. Is there a career that has to do with that?”
Rafe smiled at your answer, loving the innocent tone of voice you had used to speak to him. “Yeah, I guess. I have some friends that went into writing after school, but I don’t really remember their majors.”
“Oh, good,” you smiled even wider now. “Then I would like to go into writing, I guess.”
Rafe smiled before changing the topic of the conversation. You spoke for the rest of the ride.
************************************
The reception of the hotel was cute and small. And cozy. The snow around you was making your feet numb with cold, and the chains around the wheels of the Twinkie looked glossy from being between the white powder on the ground.
Rafe stepped out of the reception and gave you three keys.
“So this is cabin 15, which is for two people. Then there’s cabin 18 for three people and cabin 16 for two people. I asked if the were close by, and the woman said that cabin 15 and 16 were right next to each other and that cabin 18 is in front of them, across the road.”
You smiled at him and climbed into the beat-down car again. The heat was on, so it was a lot warmer than outside. JJ had woken up, along with Sarah, and they were discussing something that died down as soon as you and Rafe entered the car.
“So?” Sarah asked.
Rafe repeated what he had told you outside to the two blondes.
“I call rooming with John B!” Sarah said loudly, causing Rafe to glare at her.
“I call rooming with Kie and Pope!” JJ spoke almost at the same time as Sarah.
Your eyes widened, realizing that their arrangements left you to room with Rafe. You didn’t think that was going to be any good. Especially because of the butterfly feelings you had begun to develop around him ever since you had pulled out of the gas station four hours ago.
This had been JJ’s and Sarah’s plan. To leave you and Rafe together. Unbeknownst to you and Rafe, they had woken up a while ago and had heard a large portion of your conversation. Once you had exited the car and entered the reception of the ski lodge, they had shot up in their place and realized that the other was awake.
“We have to set them up together,” they had exclaimed at the same time.
They stared at each other weirdly, not thinking that the other was going to agree with what they said.
“Y/N needs to get laid, ASAP,” JJ explained. Sarah nodded before saying, “Or she needs to get into a relationship. Just like Rafe.”
JJ had nodded. They knew you didn’t need a relationship, but they knew you wanted to be in one. And besides, what JJ had said was true. You needed to get laid. You had told them many times before when you had been drunk.
“You are not bunking with John B, Sarah,” Rafe said. You took his hand in yours and squeezed it. This turned his attention towards you.
Sarah was pleading at him to let her sleep with John B, but it was you that truly convinced them. “Just let her sleep with him. They need each other. Especially after the whole gold thing with your dad”
Rafe only nodded his head, realizing only then that the arrangements left you bunking with him. He smiled softly.
You turned the car’s engine on and followed the signs on the road towards your cabins. Once parked, you woke everybody up and unloaded the car. Saying goodnight to the rest of the Pogues, you and Rafe headed into your cabin.
Turning on the light, you smiled. The first room was a living room that was joined to a kitchen and a small dining room. There was a fireplace that was already lit which brought heat into the small building. At the end of the room were two doors. Opening the first, you noticed a small bathroom. From the following door, Rafe said, “Sweet!” before you heard him flop onto a bed.
Tired, the both of you quickly went to bed and drifted onto sleep. And no, you did not share a bed. There were two in the room.
******************************************************
Rafe was falling in love with you.
Seeing you goof off during the weekend was enough for him.
It began with you waking him up the morning after you had arrived. You were extremely excited to learn how to ski, so you were urging him to get up.
While he got showered and dressed, you played music from your phone and danced around the kitchen, waiting for him to be ready so you could meet up with the Pogues.
At ten, you were all eating breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, winter clothes and gear on your bodies. Rafe could only stare and stare as you cracked jokes with JJ and made fun of Pope putting on sunscreen.
“We’re in the cold, Pope. Why would you need sunscreen?” you giggled.
“I read that the snow works as a reflector of sun rays! I just want to take care of my skin!”
Once on the ski tracks, Rafe helped you put on the ski boots and the skis themselves. He taught you the basics of skiing and left with Kie onto the harder slopes. When he arrived back to where you were, he laughed at the discarded skis at your side. You were making snow angels on the ground.
When you both arrived back at your cabin, you removed your ski goggles from your face only to find that your cheeks were red. You were sunburned!
Rafe laughed at your groans, and stated, “you should have listened to Pope.”
The following day was similar, but this time, Rafe and Sarah made sure to hire a skiing instructor for the Pogues. They wanted to make sure they actually learned.
Speeding down the slopes one time, he noticed you in your class. The instructor was in front of the four Pogues that were taking classes slowly drifting down the beginner’s hill. Rafe smiled as he noticed your wobbly knees and the smile on your face.
The end of the weekend approached a lot faster than you had wanted it to.
“Why do we have to leave tomorrow morning?” you cried out. Rafe could only laugh, staring at you with love in his eyes.
“We’ll come back again,” he promised you. “Next year. And for a longer time.”
You went to bed that night dreading the fact that you had to leave. However, you awoke only a couple hours later, freezing. You heard wind rustling outside and moved the curtain to look out of the window. A snowstorm encased the small cabins on the mountain. This probably meant that you were going to have to stay at least one more day before leaving, especially if the roads were blocked.
You shivered and tried to fall back to sleep, but couldn’t. You sat up and looked at Rafe’s bead, an idea popping into your head.
You stepped out of your bed and moved towards Rafe’s raising the covers and slipping in.
Feeling something cold near his legs, Rafe woke up and groggily turned around. He saw you next to him and felt his heart race pick up.
“Hey,” he whispered to you.
“I’m sorry I woke you,” you apologized. “But I was freezing and you looked warm.”
Rafe smiled at you and closed his eyes, already drifting off again. He was brought back out of the dream world by you. Your arms had reached out towards his body and brought him closer to you, pressing your head into his chest.
Rafe returned the gesture, and you immediately felt encased by heat. Sighing happily, you closed your eyes.
“I’m glad we became friends this weekend,” you spoke out to him.
Rafe grinned. “Me too.”
The both of you fell asleep, not knowing that the other wished to be more than friends just as much as themselves.

"If ATFO isn’t up by the end of the month, feel free to ask me for an already written scene from one-shot from that universe." is the offer still open?
Gotcha! Sorry this is late 😬
Here is young Jason's POV. It's from right after Year 4 so before Tim and right after Jason was formally adopted (still in training to be Robin)
Here's the first eight pages
-------
Year 4.5: The Vacation
Alright, so here’s the thing.
Jason is a city boy. He grew up in a city. It was Gotham so it was a shit city and the part that he lived in even shittier; but, it was, without question, a city. And one where he had lived the entire fourteen years of his somewhat depressing life. Jason was familiar with said city.
So, Jason is decidedly not familiar with the so-called “great” outdoors. Fuck, he’s pretty sure the closest he’s come to nature is fights with Poison Ivy.
All of which is just too fricking bad because Jason also happens to be the recently adopted brother of Dick Grayson, who has for some unimaginable reason decided camping is the best way to spend a vacation.
And Jason is coming along.
Why? Because apparently Dick’s first thought had been this was a great time for brotherly bonding. Okay, actually his first was that it was perfect for Jason’s birthday but Jason had flat out refused and Dick moved it to the week after.
So, now, the newly fourteen year old is watching as Dick somehow crams a tent, sleeping bags, and camping gear into one of the Wayne’s very fancy and very compact sports cars.
Jason looks back wistfully to the manor door.
It’s probably not too late to back out.
But, as lame as it most definitely sounds, this camping trip actually seems really important to Dick. Like important enough to give Donna his Titans duties for a few days and ask Roy to be back up for Barbara in Gotham if she needed it. Plus, more terrifying, getting Barbara to agree to that.
And, as much as he refused to say it aloud, Jason could privately admit that Dick Grayson may have a very large part in why his recently somewhat depressing life is a now a lot less depressing.
Whatever. So, Jason might not actually think it’s too terrible to spend a few days with his older brother. Even with the camping.
That still doesn’t explain the other part.
“Why can’t we bring our uniforms again,” Jason complains, crossing his arms.
Dick doesn’t stop in his work to get the trunk shut. “Because that would mean we’re working and I’ve been informed by both Raquel and Zatanna that working vacations don’t actually count as vacations.” The trunk pops back open and Dick’s head disappears inside. “Besides, we won’t need them where we’re going.”
“Yeah, cause that doesn’t sound ominous,” Jason mutters under his breath.
“What was that?”
“Nothing!”
Dick emerges and the trunk finally closes with only a slight creak of protest. “Ha, there! What did I tell you? Circus performers always know the best packing tips.”
Jason is reluctantly somewhat impressed.
“Come on, get in! We’ve gotta get to the grounds while there’s still light to set up the tent.”
Jason slumps into the passenger seat. “Are you sure this isn’t like you stealthily training me in advanced wilderness survival or something?”
“It’s a vacation, Jason,” Dick insists, starting the car and backing down the drive way. “Believe me, if it was training, I’d pick a lot trickier place than twenty minutes out of Gotham city limits.”
Crap, if it was training, Jason would at least know it sucked for a reason. Doing it for fun makes it even worse.
“You know you’re an heir to like billions of dollars, right?”
“We’re the heirs,” Dick corrects because of course, he does.
Jason rolls his eyes. “I’m just saying if you wanted nature, we could go to like the Bahamas or the Galapagos or even just buy an island if that’s what you really wanted.”
“We don’t need an island.”
“Sure, we do. We could even use it as a secret prison for supervillains when we’re done. It would be great!”
Dick’s grinning, checking briefly before pulling into Gotham traffic. “Secret island prison bases definitely fall a bit too far into the supervillian category, Jay. They'll sue us for trademark infringement.”
“Still beats camping.”
“Camping’s fun!” Dick laughs. “Trust me. Millions of people do it every year. They can’t all be wrong.”
Per usual, Jason is far less trusting of the populace’s intelligence than Dick is.
As if to spite his skepticism, the hour or so drive out to the woods doesn’t go so bad. Jason commandeers the radio so they’re listening to a good classic rock station instead of being subjected to the weird mix of folk songs and pop music that Dick likes. The dark buildings and usual smog of Gotham starts to fade out around the forty minute mark, somewhere between one of Dick’s Titans stories and Jason complaining about a plot thread in the last book he read.
The drive is nice. Peaceful, even.
You know like most horror movies start.
“We’re here!”
Jason eyes the stretch of trees for any kind of sign or even a distinguishing feature. There’s nothing.
“Dick, this is definitely not a campsite.”
“It’s a few miles off,” Dick explains, dropping a bag in Jason’s arms. “I wanted to avoid the usual campgrounds in case the tabloid reporters found us. Don’t worry, I checked with the owner. No one’s used this stretch in years.”
Jason thinks there’s probably a reason for that since there’s not one hint of a trail in sight.
“Where are we even going to set up a tent?”
“Not sure,” Dick says way too cheerfully. “Finding a spot’s part of the fun!”
Jason gives him a look.
Dick rolls his eyes. “Relax, Jay. The owner told me there’s a stream about half a mile in. We’ll set up camp there.”
Jason still gives a token grumble just because.
By the time night rolls around, they do manage to find a camping spot, set up the tent, and Dick even starts up a small fire right in the middle of the campsite.
If pushed, Jason would admit the entire thing is a bit picturesque.
He bites down on his hot dog as Dick digs through the rest of their stuff.
“Oh! I almost forgot to tell you!” Dick pulls something out of the bag. “Look, I brought stuff to make s'mores!”
“Cool, hand them over” Jason grabs for the bag of marshmallows only for Dick to pull them away.
“Not yet, they’re for our last day. Gotta ration out the food.”
Jason rolls his eyes. “You’re ridiculous. Why not bring enough for every night?”
“Cause then it’s less special,” Dick answers sagely. “Think about it like a prize for surviving camping.”
Because Jason is the generous sort, he doesn’t even make a crack about “surviving”.
“So, okay, let’s say I buy that camping is a vacation,” he says instead between bites.
“It is a vacation.”
“Yeah, fine, sure. Real question though, why are we taking a vacation?” He waves a hand. “What ever happened to ‘crime never sleeps’ and everything?”
“I’ve never said that!”
“You said it to Babs last week!”
“That was so she’d help me run the Poison Ivy samples! That doesn’t count! She didn’t even believe me!”
“Definitely counts!”
Dick rolls his eyes. “You know most kids don’t need a reason to go on vacation before school starts.”
“So, that’s what this is,” Jason accuses. “This is for you! You wanted a vacation before college!”
Dick turns his face down to poke at the fire. “I’m not going to college...not this year anyway.”
Jason frowns. “I thought you got accepted to Gotham U. Shit, I know you did. Alfred still has the letter hanging on the fridge.”
Dick shrugs. “I’m going to turn it down. There’s too much going on right now. Gotham. The Titans. I’ve gotta start sitting in at the Wayne Enterprise meetings soon, too. I don’t have time for classes.”
“Pretty sure, the classes would help with the Wayne Enterprise crap,” Jason says. “And you know Roy and Donna can help with the Titans and Babs and I can cover more in Gotham if--”
“Jay, it’s fine,” Dick cuts him off. “I need to choose what to focus on and it just can’t be college right now. It’s okay.”
Jason wants to argue more but then Dick’s continuing
“And, hey, I know camping’s not exactly your thing; but, I’m glad you decided to come anyway.” Dick gives him a blinding grin. “You deserve to do some normal summer stuff after all the Robin training. And I’m glad I get to spend some time with my favorite little brother.
Jason glares, ignoring the way his cheeks have gone warm. “Shut up, I’m your only brother. And you know I hate it when you say stuff like that.”
“No, you don’t,” Dick says, shit eating grin in place.
Jason flings the bag of hot dog buns at him.
He catches it, still grinning. The asshole.
-----
Something that’s always jarring but becomes really fucking obvious once he thinks about it is the fact that Dick gets nightmares.
Of course, he does. How could he not? Jason’s doesn’t know why he never expects it.
It’s not even loud nightmares with like screaming and flailing arms and shit. It’s just these short, sharp little gasps as his body goes entirely too stiff and face twists in pain. Sometimes, Jason thinks that’s worse than screaming.
Jason shifts in his sleeping bag, turning to face the top of the tent. He briefly contemplates waking Dick up; but, he knows from experience, it won’t help much. Better to let him get some rest until the nightmare goes away on its own.
Only problem is that Jason still can’t fall asleep. It’s kind of funny. He’s never really thought of himself as a picky sleeper before. Fuck knows he’s slept on way too many of Gotham’s mold infested roofs back when his dad was on parole. But, there’s something about the cold feeling of hard dirt that he swears he can feel even under the layers of sleeping bag and tent.
Camping sucks.
Screw it. Jason’s not just going to lay here all night. Least he can do is get up and explore around the campsite so he can have a better idea of whatever “fun” activities he’s sure Dick has planned for tomorrow.
He slips out of the tent without waking up Dick--which actually does serve as a fairly good challenge for his new Robin training--and heads into the woods, careful to keep note of how far away he goes from camp. He feels ridiculously like he should have bread crumbs or some other kind of fairy tale stuff to track his way through the forest.
He swears if he survived living in Crime Alley, Black Mask, and a freaking explosion just to get lost and die in the woods, he’s going to haunt Dick forever. Jason the Unfriendly Ghost.
He gets to the stream that he and Dick found earlier so at least he’s not that lost.
SNAP!
Jason’s head whips around in the direction of the noise.
Nothing.
He lets out a long breath. Dumb, of course, it’s nothing. It’s the forest. Forests make weird noises. It’s reason #357 why they’re terrible.
SNAP!
Okay...that definitely sounded like something big….but, maybe it’s something normal like a tree branch snapping or--
Snap!...Snap!...Snap!
That’s footsteps.
Jason moves back into the tree line, crouching down until he’s covered in the darkness of the bushes. His hands run over the ground, trying to find anything even remotely useful other than a slightly pointy stick.
Snap!...Snap!
Shit, he really is going to die here, isn’t he? In this stupid forest before he even gets to go out as Robin. Of all the dumb fucking--
Snap!...snap!...snap...snap.
The footsteps are getting further away. Echoing deeper and deeper into the forest on the other side of the stream.
snap...snap...snap…
Jason listens, in slight amazement, as the sounds slowly fade off into the distance until they finally disappear. Slowly, Jason counts in his mind to sixty, then a hundred and twenty, then two hundred.
On three hundred, he bolts--tearing through the forest in the direction of the camp until he finally catches sight of the obnoxiously bright yellow of the tent Dick bought, shining in front of him like a heavenly beacon.
He tears through the opening, breathing heavily, just a half a second before there’s an arm jammed hard against his neck.
“Jay?”
The pressure disappears and then Dick’s looking down at him with wide eyes and a slight blush. “Sorry about that. Was surprised. What’s wrong?”
Jason’s heart rate’s finally slowing down. And here in the safety of the tent, in the face of Dick’s patented concerned face, admitting to getting freaked out by noises in the woods seems beyond stupid.
“Nothing,” he mutters. “Just thought I heard something?”
“Heard something?”
“Yeah, like footsteps.”
Dick frowns. “We’re on private camp land. There shouldn’t be anyone around here. You sure?”
Jason shakes his head, face feeling hot, as he sits back down on his sleeping bag. “No. Don’t worry about it. Like I said, it was probably nothing. Maybe it’s just a mountain lion that’s gonna eat us in our sleep.”
Dick pats his shoulder. “Mountain lions don’t really live in this region, Jay.”
Jason rolls his eyes before turning over pointedly to try to get some more sleep.
“It’s bears you need to worry about.”

Pretty in Pearls, Chapter 6 (Jankie) - Plastiquedoll
read on ao3 💄| previous chapters
A/N: hi! it took me a while but here's a new update I hope you enjoy it! thank you for reading it! <3
-6-
“I can’t do this anymore,” Jan complained.
Jackie lifted her gaze from the book she was reading.
“This is the third time you say that… algebra can’t possibly be that bad.”
“For your consideration, there aren’t even numbers on these exercises, it’s Math… there should be numbers… where are the numbers?” She whined.
“Don’t look at me, why do you think I chose Art History? After high school, I promised myself my relationship with calculus was over.”
Jan sighed but focused on the assignment once again.
“Okay… I’m done… that was the last exercise of the sheet. I refuse to keep using my brain for what’s left of the day.”
Jackie chuckled.
They were alone in the copy room. It had been one of those quiet days; it was raining outside so Jan’s practice had been canceled but luckily her friend enjoyed her company while she did homework as well. In the past two hours, only a lost student walked in begging for a copy of a study guide for a mid-term for the following day. Jackie had the radio on and she had let the younger chose the station, Jan had picked a bubblegum pop radio that kept playing songs from the ’00s and the 10’s –to which she had found Jackie mumbling the lyrics a couple of times.
As much as she hated to miss her practice, she had to admit it was the first time in two weeks she had a moment to breathe. With her responsibilities and new hobby involved, she barely had time to take a break.
Jackie had her eyes on the book and one hand on the computer’s keyboard. She had been writing notes non-stop since her meeting with the dean. As she had explained it to Jan, her complaint had been discussed, and even when she presented a well-written note and had some witnesses to back it up, the only thing the university was doing was reprimand him and, –since it was the first time someone had said something about the professor’s behavior- let him continue his classes with a warning.
In terms of Jackie’s situation, they had dictated that she’d be able to present a final assignment that would include several –if not all- units of the program, and it would be evaluated by a panel of professors from similar backgrounds, to make it fair. The thing was that her former professor was the one that had formulated the questions and, aside from being a lot, they were pretty gimmicky and for all those reasons, she had started the assignment way earlier than the semester was over, just to be sure.
“Okay, I’m done for the day too.” She closed her notebook. “I feel like there’s smoke coming from my ears or something.”
“Oh, was it you? I thought it was one of the machines.”
Jackie scrunched her nose. “Anyway, it seems like it’s a slow day and I have ten more minutes here so… Do you want to go watch a movie at the cinema?”
“At the cinema? Whoa… I haven’t thought about it but it’s been ages since I went to watch a movie…”
“Is that a yes…?” Jackie did her best to hide her nervousness behind the question.
“Sure. But I have to warn you, I’m not good with horror movies.” Jan shrugged.
“I saw that coming… But there’s this old cinema called Bellamy, we could ride the subway and would be there in no time. They play random movies every day so we could just get there and grab a couple of tickets for the next feature. What do you say?”
“Sounds good to me. Oh! I’ll put it on the group chat in case anyone else wants to tag along.”
Jackie’s lips turned into a thin line. “Okay… you do that and I’ll finish here.”
Jan hadn’t even noticed the shift in the girl’s mood, she was way too excited typing the message on her phone.
“I hope you’re not upset but it seems it’s going to be just me and you,” Jan mentioned while Jackie closed the door of the copy room. “Everyone’s plans or they are studying or… I don’t know.”
“Oh… no… it’s fine by me if it’s fine for you.”
“Of course! It’ll be fun!” She smiled.
It was still raining outside so they shared Jackie’s red umbrella that matched with her rain boots.
“What’s with this downpour?” Jackie wiped some drops from her clothes once they got underground. “Okay, here we go.”
Jan seemed amused. “I have never ridden the subway… well, back when I was like four I’m sure my mom took us me and my brother but I have no memories of it whatsoever.”
“You’ll get used to it quickly. Honestly, it’s one of the easiest ways to travel when it’s not packed.”
Without objecting, Jan followed Jackie’s lead up close. They almost coordinated steps to avoid puddles while running; the comical situation got them laughing at loud all their way to the subway station.
“I’m out of breath.” Jackie leaned against one column before closing the umbrella.
They shook some drops out of their clothes and waited for the subway to arrive. When it arrived not even five minutes later, they rushed to climb onto the wagon before they got pushed by others passengers. At least with the rain, there was place to move and even some seats available.
Jan had decided she liked riding the subway, it was a great place to observe the diversity of the fauna of the city. There were all kinds of people around probably heading to their works or their homes or to meet friends or just somewhere different. It was exciting, to consider the unlimited possibilities.
She looked at Jackie and displayed a giant grin that had the other girl blushing lightly and looking away.
“So how did you find this place?” Jan asked after a couple of minutes.
It caught Jackie out of guard. “Huh? What do you mean?” She frowned lightly.
“I was wondering how did you find this place since it’s not near the campus.”
“Oh that… I actually discovered it a couple of years ago. Things at home with my mom after the divorce weren’t precisely on the best terms so after school I never got straight back there. Instead, I started wandering around and taking the subway or the bus to go anywhere really.” Her voice threatened with breaking but she quickly cleared her throat. “One of those times I ended up in this old building, a theatre with so much history and they played these movies I had never seen before so… I stayed there ever since.”
“Whoa… that’s…” Jan wanted to reach for her hand but the older girl hurried to jump off the seat.
“This is our stop.” She pointed out.
“Alright. We’re here.”
“We are.” Jackie showed her a smile and grabbed the umbrella, ready to face the rain. “Let’s go.”
They had arrived just in time for Carrie but since Jan had stated she didn’t enjoy horror films, they waited ten minutes for the next movie to start. Coincidentally, it was My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn so it would also work for research purposes –or that was what Jan said- aside from the fact she had never watched it.
Jackie couldn’t say she was a newbie to Hepburn’s movies, she had watched all of them at least once but having company was new to her. Since getting into college she had stopped needing the cinema as an escape, a way to avoid reality at least for a couple hours; it was after meeting her friends and starting her classes that she eventually had less time to go there or simply, didn’t need it anymore.
Now, it was a whole different scenario. She had Jan next to her and it was a bit magical to see her in the dark with the light of the screen reflecting on her face, something that made her heart race. She would’ve died to hold her hand at that instant but it was true that she’d also die if she touched her as if Jan held the power of burning her with a mere contact.
Then, the screen went black and the credits started rolling, the movie was over.
They waited until most people had left the room and then they walked out.
“So, did you like the movie?”
Jan tilted her head. “Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a period piece from time to time and the costumes were iconic but… Professor Higgins is awful!” She gestured with her hands to emphasize her displeasure. “He spent all this time torturing Eliza… changing her to the point where she couldn’t go back to her life. That’s a psychopath.”
“Oh thank God, we agree.” Jackie sighed with relief.
“No wonder Rosé and her classmates changed part of the plot because…”
“Yeah. I’m dying to see that. How are the rehearsals going by the way?”
“They are great, I have a small part… the equivalent of one of those ladies on the horse races and I appear in two numbers but the rehearsals are so much fun with everyone. It's a nice group of people that are passionate about musicals.”
They got out of the room and saw the people already gathering for the next feature. The smell of popcorn was strong in the air just like the humidity of the rain on the carpet.
Jackie spotted a familiar face and her eyes lighted up. “Oh my God, Sophie!” She waved toward a short old woman with white hair and giant round glasses. “Jan, you have to meet Sophie”
“Jackie, darling.” She shuffled toward them. She pulled Jackie for a tight hug. The woman barely reached her waist.
“Sophie, this is my friend, Jan.” She introduced them.
“Hi-” Before Jan could say something else, Sophie also hugged her.
“Sophie is the owner of the theatre,” Jackie explained once the old lady let the younger breathe.
“Oh! That’s awesome. It’s really nice to meet you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too. I have waited for ages for Jackie to finally bring a special someone…”
“No!” Jackie shook her head. “It’s- It’s not like that at all… We’re friends.”
“Pardon me, it’s only that when you introduced me to this lovely young lady I just thought… maybe someone had finally melted your cold façade.”
“Oh, Sophie… what are you saying?” She laughed nervously, her face was completely red. “Don’t listen to her… she’s old.”
Jan giggled. “It’s alright. I adore Jackie, she’s one of my best friends.”
“I haven’t seen this one in a while, you’d think she vanished or something.” The woman pointed.
“I’m sorry, Sophie. I should’ve called you at least.”
“For sure.” Sophie nagged.
“It won’t happen again… I’ll come back more often after the midterms, I promise it.”
“Oh darling, you haven’t heard, have you?”
Jackie looked puzzled. “What?”
“The Bellamy is going to be demolished.”
“What?!” The girl’s jaw dropped to the floor.
“How?” Jan asked, in disbelief as well.
“Well, a group of rich people has decided this is the perfect location to build one of those department stores.”
“No, no, no… this can’t be. This place is sacred, part of the cultural heritage of the city, it can’t be destroyed to build a mall.”
The old lady shrugged. “There’s not much I can do about it, it’s already written.” She patted Jackie’s shoulder. “Listen, honey, the important thing is that this place served its purpose for a long, long time and we got to enjoy it.”
Jackie was on the verge of tears. “How can you say that? How can you give up just like that? Without even putting a fight? The Bellamy is not just another cinema.”
The girl stormed out of the theatre before anyone else could say something.
“Wait! Jackie!” Jan shouted but she lost the girl in the crowd. “I’m sorry, I’m sure she didn’t mean any of that.” She softly explained to Sophie.
“You don’t need to tell me, I know. Now go after her, she needs a friend right now.”
“Yeah… I will…” Jan turned around.
“Oh, and Jan, one more thing,” Sophie called. “keep an eye on her, she seems inscrutable sometimes but she’s sensitive underneath.”
Jan displayed a tiny smile. “I know.”
“Jackie! Jackie wait!”
As if it didn’t matter at all, it had stopped raining.
She found the elder laying against the wall, next to a Casablanca poster that had been there since… well… probably since Casablanca first premiered.
Jackie’s cheeks were wet and her eyes reddened but she had wiped all the tears before Jan got closer.
“Hey… I’m so sorry.” Jan looked at her with soft eyes.
Jackie closed her eyes and sighed loudly. “I can’t believe it… this theatre is a home to me.”
“There must be a way to save it, we’ll figure something out.”
“I don’t know… it seems impossible… even Sophie has renounced.”
“Then we’ll convince her as well.” Jan grabbed her wrists. “We’ll find a way, there’s always a way.”
“Okay, Disney Channel Original Movie motivational speech.”
Jan chuckled. “What do you say if –for now- we go home and pick something to eat? I’m starving and... is it me or popcorn buckets are getting smaller?”
She got a smile from Jackie, that was a win.
“Plus, if I want to become a subway expert I’m supposed to ride it again, right?”
“I suppose that’s correct.”
“I’m telling you, I know this vegetarian place that has the best eggplant tacos and veggie sushi…” Jackie was commenting when they returned to the dorms.
“Sounds amazing, just let me pick some money from my room and we’ll be ready to go. You can come with me if you want.”
“Alright.”
They climbed the stairs until Jan stopped in her tracks making Jackie almost bump into her.
“Hey, careful there…”
But the brunette was petrified, watching the scene that happened on the very same floor of her dormitory. It took Jackie a moment to locate the event that had caused such commotion but as soon as she saw it, she just wished her friend hadn’t.
There he was, Nathan, the object of her affections, walking out the room of a girl that lived in the building. A different girl, it wasn’t the girl from the first day or another girl she had seen him with before. This was a gorgeous girl –like the others- but there was something different about him -him with her- the way he put the missing lock behind her ear and got closer to press a chaste kiss on her lips, the way they smiled after their lips touched.
Jan felt sick to her stomach, her face got pale and she barely could hold the tears.
The couple returned to the room and right when the door closed, she ran directly to her room. She desperately searched for the keys.
“Jan? Are you…?” Jackie touched her shoulder.
Jan sobbed. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine… I just… I need to find the keys… it’s like I can’t find them anywhere.” She kept rummaging her backpack without result.
It was too late, she broke into tears, her knees gave in and she ended on the floor.
“I’m sorry, this must look so stupid in comparison to the theatre but… It hurts so badly.” Her voice broke into pieces. “I keep telling myself it’s just another girl but there’s always another girl… It's exhausting.”
“Oh, Jan… no…” Jackie kneeled next to her and embraced her in a hug. “It’s not you.”
“I know that… it will never be me.”
“No, that’s not what I meant.”
She finally found her keys and got up.
“I’m sorry, Jackie. I’ve lost my appetite.” Her voice sounded weak, distant.
“No, wait… you don’t have to be alone right now.” Jackie hurried to stand up.
“I really… really… want to be alone.” She sobbed harder. “I don’t want you to see me like this.” She closed the door on Jackie’s face as soon as she got in.
“Jan!” Jackie knocked on the door. “Jan… please don’t do this. Jan, please… open the door.”
She tried for another five minutes but finally gave up. Jan wasn’t opening the door and the best Jackie could do was texting Rosé hoping the girl would come home earlier to take care of her.
It broke Jackie’s heart to see her like that, especially for a guy like Nathan, one that wasn’t worth the tears.
The following day, it surprised Jackie to find a text message from Jan early in the morning –earlier than any of her classes.
From Jan 🐻: Meet me at Lucky’s before class. It’s important.
Jackie jumped out of bed and rushed to get ready as soon as she read it, after a night of poor sleep she was waiting for that text message.
She walked straight to the diner and found her friend sitting on a table with her computer open and her pink-haired roommate sitting in front of her.
“Hey...” She approached the table.
“Jackie, you’re here!” Jan greeted with the same energetic tone she had –even that early in the morning. Although she looked hyped, the bags under her eyes told a different story.
“Uh… Are you okay?” Jackie asked before taking a seat next to her. She also eyed Rosé who just shrugged.
“Peachy.” She smiled. “Would you like a cup of coffee maybe? Waffles? Pancakes? French toast?”
“The waffles are really good.” Rosé pointed.
“Thanks… I’ll have some eggs maybe but… what’s going on? Yesterday…”
“Yesterday was yesterday and today is today.” Jan gestured with her hands. “I texted you because I have something super important to show you.” She pointed at her computer's screen.
That was it? They were going to pretend the Nathan incident hadn’t happened at all? Well, at least for Jan, that was the case.
“Alright… tell me.”
“So, I did some research and I believe it is possible to save the theatre if we gather enough evidence to prove it has historic importance for the city.” The page of the culture ministry was opened along with at least fifty different tabs on the subject.
“And how exactly are you going to do that?” Jackie raised an eyebrow.
“I was hoping you’d come with an idea since you know the place better than me. Maybe Sophie could tell us some story or we could do our own research.”
Jackie sighed. “I guess it could work but we’d need to invest hours on this and… are you sure you want to do it? I feel like you have a lot on your plate already.”
“Oh no, she devoured the pancakes the second the plate touched the table, trust me.” Rosé assured.
“I was hungry and I didn’t eat them right away, they drew a face with the blueberries so I took a picture and posted it on Instagram first.” She shook her head. “As I was saying, this is important for you, Jackie and I want to help.” She stared at her, hoping she would convince her with those arguments.
“Jan, I’m worried about you.”
“Don’t even try it.” Rosé mumbled. “I already did and she chose to ignore me categorically so I followed her here to make sure she didn’t jump from a bridge or something.”
“She’s also here to hit on my coworker so it’s really a win-win situation.”
They high-fived.
“That’s lovely… but we should talk about what happened last night…”
“There’s nothing to talk about,” Jan stated. “I’m fine.”
“Yeah, I don’t think…”
But Jackie was interrupted by Denali.
“Hi, how’s it going over here? Do you guys want something else?” She had her eyes fixed on her notebook.
“Can I get a cup of Americano and scrambled eggs?” Jackie asked. She needed some coffee to go through it.
“Right away. Do you girls would like something else? More coffee?”
“We’re good.” Jan smiled.
“Oh, Jan, I have your check over there if you want to collect it right now.”
“Thank you, Nali. I’ll be there in a second.”
Rosé cleared her throat. “I’ve been meaning to ask you…”
But it was like the cat had caught the pink-haired girl’s tongue.
“…if you can pour more coffee for me?”
“Sure.” She smiled politely but it was clear that Rosé was melting inside.
Once the waitress left, all the eyes were on Rosé.
“What? I got paralyzed. I can’t do it. I can’t. It is physically impossible for me to ask her out, my body reacts like that.”
“I believe, as science people and Twitter users have once referred to it, that's a case of gay panic. Have you tried in a different way?” Jackie asked before sipping some of Jan’s coffee. “What is this?” She winced.
“Decaffeinated.”
“Ugh…”
“Bitch, I have tried… I even left my number written on a $20 bill when I went to the bathroom earlier, hoping she’d see it but it’s like I’m invisible.”
“That’s not right. Denali loves to flirt and she’s single so I don’t see why she wouldn’t say yes. Oh, I know, you could invite her to the play's opening night.”
Jackie looked at the younger, Jan had dodged the conversation about her but there was no way her friend wasn’t going to dig into it later.
“Maybe I can pave the way for you… find out if she’s having a rough morning or something that affects her response.”
“Would you do that for me?” Rosé didn’t sound so sure about it.
“Of course, I have to pick up my check… my first check here.”
“Congratulations.” Jackie smiled at her.
“Thank you.” She then touched her roommate’s arm. “Leave it to me. I’ll be subtle.”
“Jan…” Before Rosé could say something, she was already heading toward the counter.
“Was it bad?” Jackie asked once the brunette left.
“Girl… You have no idea.” Rosé sighed.
“Thank you, Nali.” Jan held the check proudly in her hands.
“Is your name correct?”
“Yes, it’s perfect.”
“Remember you work tomorrow so have a moderate amount of fun with it and stay away from ice skates and acrylic nails hot sales… Huh… I guess that only applies to me.” Denali turned around.
“Denali… I was wondering…”
The raven-haired girl dropped a pile of napkins.
“Shit. Don’t tell anyone but I forgot to put my contacts on this morning and basically, I can’t see shit without these giant glasses.” She murmured before quickly putting a pair of dark frame glasses on. She grabbed the napkins and after typing something on the computer, took them off immediately.
“Oh… that explains a lot actually…”
“What do you mean?”
Subtle Jan, subtle.
“So my roommate likes you.”
Denali almost tripped. “Wait, what?”
“She’s been trying to ask you out for the past weeks but she feels like you’re ignoring her.”
Denali dragged Jan behind the counter with her and kneeled before putting the glasses back on.
“Which one is your roommate?” She whispered.
“The one with the pink hair that comes here often… is a regular. You can't ignore her she's like one of those anime main characters with the funky hair.”
“Oh my God, Fine Wine is your roommate?”
“What?”
“She’s always singing that Kylie Minogue song and I thought it was a joke since you guys call her Rosé but…”
“That’s her name.”
“Well, she is fine wine.” Denali pushed the glasses up the bridge of her nose. “Are you sure about this?”
“Yeah? She even left a $20 bill with her number as a tip for you?”
“That was her?! I thought it was one of the creepy guys from table six. Oh my God…” She grabbed the jar of tips and started searching for the bill.
“Bitch if I’m missing a single dollar from that jar I swear to God…” Kandy yelled from the other side of the diner.
“Shut up, I’m in the middle of something here…” Finally, she pulled out the bill with pink glitter ink.
“It says XOXO Rosé.”
“What part of «I’m not wearing glasses» you didn't catch?”
"Is that a yes, though?
Denali nodded. She removed the glasses and waved toward their table. “Hey Rosé, if you’re not busy tonight, I’ll call you!”
Rosé blushed instantly but she nodded with a smile on her face.
Jackie, behind her, just shook her head, acknowledging that the shenanigans of her friend had worked out once again.

the partners | Steve x Reader
chapter one: please, please, please, let me get what I want
series summary: you and Steve are police apprentices at Hawkins Police Station in the fall of 1986. you get along famously, but there’s something Steve is hiding, and there is an unknown evil lurking in Hawkins. [friends to lovers, angst, hurt/comfort, fluff]
chapter summary: Steve finally agrees to hang out outside of work.
warnings: swearing, 80s music
word count: 2.4k
a/n: this chapter is mainly a ton of exposition, but it’s gonna get better I PROMISE. huge thank ya to @wolfish-willow who gave me some beautiful ideas (milky coffee + danish loving Steve) that helped this fic come to fruition <3 enjoy!
--
You pull into Hawkin’s Police Department at 7:30, a half hour before your shift. There are two coffees in the cup holders of your car, and a paper bag filled with two pastries on the passenger seat. You pull in beside your partner’s car and he hops out, a smile plastered on his face. He crawls into your passenger side and grabs the bag.
“This one’s yours,” you say, pointing to the coffee cup marked milk w/ dash of coffee. He laughs, pulling out his blueberry danish and handing you your strawberry donut. He bites into his pastry and lets out a sinful moan, making you smack his arm.
“It’s too early for you to be gross,” you say, but he looks victorious.
“I’m sorry you don’t like my happiness,” he quips, and you roll your eyes.
It was tradition that every Monday that you both worked, you’d get coffee and pastries from the local bakery and shoot the shit in your car until your shift started.
“So, I had a dream last night where I was dating Mia Sara,” he says.
“Wish that were me,” you reply, taking a sip of coffee. “Did it work out for you guys?”
“Nah, she left me for Harrison Ford.”
“Tragic.”
He pauses, listening to the music softly coming from your radio. He scoffs upon realizing what was playing.
“Stop listening to this sad shit,” he says, turning the dial, making you shout.
“It’s the Smiths!” You try to bat his hand away, but he manages to change the channel to a Queen song. Typical.
You and Steve had become good friends after securing your positions, despite your perception of him in high school. After the fire at Starcourt and the death of Jim Hopper, the federal government had given the Hawkins Police a grant to let aspiring cops train directly in the field. It would fast-track getting certified, eliminating the need for expensive schooling. It was like a paid internship. A paid internship where you basically get paid to bullshit with your best friend all day.
A third car pulls in. It’s Veronica, the secretary. She takes over on days that Flo wants off – she’s worked hard enough for it. Veronica was a bit obsessed with Steve, so he groaned when he saw her get out and wave.
“What do you think she’s going to say to you today?” you giggle, and Steve rolls his eyes.
“Probably, like… that she had a dream about us last night, or something.” He squeezes his eyes shut. “God, please don’t let her talk to me.”
Women were throwing themselves at Steve the minute he put the uniform on, but he claimed he wasn’t interested in dating. You weren’t really sure why, given his history, but he never answered any questions. He just said he wanted to focus on work and having fun, so you let him.
Steve was kind of a mystery to you. You were incredibly close at the station, but you’d been working with him for a few months and you never saw each other outside of work. There were talks of maybe going to a movie, but they never went anywhere. It was bizarre, considering how fond you both were of each other. But you didn’t want to push it, unsure if you were making him uncomfortable.
In reality, Steve was just nervous of letting people in. Not just because of his history with girls and friends, but because he also had Russians and demons to worry about. He felt that if he let anyone new into his life, he would be putting them in mortal danger. This viewpoint is also the reason why he applied for the apprenticeship in the first place.
When the position popped up, Steve had no second thoughts. He had looked up to Hopper greatly since the time Will was possessed. He knew without a doubt that he wanted to follow in Hop’s footsteps. But he also felt an obligation now that Hopper was dead. Joyce had left, taking Will and Eleven with her. The three people who had the best grip on the strange events that had occurred the past three years were gone, and the man who devised most of the plans (and executed them) was gone, too. Steve couldn’t sleep at night for months. He needed to constantly call the kids and Robin to make sure they were safe. Being part of the Hawkins Police seemed like a no-brainer; it was a way to ensure everyone was safe and be on the frontlines to protect them.
Not that he ever let this on; usually he would just say that he’s always wanted to be a cop, and he kept it at that.
You’d decided to do the apprenticeship after college didn’t work out. You went to one in Indianapolis after high school, but you weren’t really into it. Your parents decided to retire and travel for a few years, offering to let you have the house while they’re gone. You gratefully took them up on it, and you’d been living there since the spring. You’d enjoyed a few months off, but decided it was time to find something new to do. You’d always had a fantasy of being a hero. Maybe not a hero cop, but a hero. You wanted to save lives, make an impact. Being a police officer seemed like a good start. You knew it wouldn’t be like the movies, but the strange events that happened the last few years excited you. Maybe you’d get the chance to be someone you’ve always wanted to be.
“Why don’t you just give Veronica a chance?” you ask. “She’s pretty and she’s nice and she’s smart.”
“She literally told me she wanted a lock of my hair,” he says.
You choke on your coffee. “I forgot about that.”
“Yeah? I didn’t.”
Steve’s watch beeps, signaling that it’s 5 minutes until 8.
“Please keep talking to me when we go in,” he begs as you both climb out of the car.
“What’s in it for me?” you inquire.
“I will give you all of the lunches my mom brings me for two weeks.”
You pause. “Even the Fruit Roll-Ups?”
He sighs. “I’ll throw them in if you do a good job.”
You successfully make it past the reception desk without incident, waving hi to Callahan and Powell. You knock on the Chief’s door to signify your arrival, and you and Steve make your way back to the annex you worked in. Your desks faced each other, making it easier to talk through your 8-hour shifts. They were usually pretty boring. You and Steve were only cleared to respond to calls about petty things, like noise disturbances. But it’s not like much ever happened anymore in Hawkins, and the town had almost made it a full year without any weird occurrences.
A few hours go by, and boredom runs rampant. You hated Mondays: things hardly ever happened. Steve gets up around 10:30 and puts a mixtape into the boombox in the annex. Don’t You (Forget About Me) comes on, and Steve mutters, “aw, hell yeah,” under his breath. You know he’s going to start dancing, but it doesn’t stop the surprised smile on your face as he starts to swing and spin and sing. It’s magic, watching Steve dance. It makes no sense, it’s clumsy, it’s so white that it hurts; but it’s also hilarious and never fails to pick you up. Sometimes you’d join him. Other times, you’d call him an idiot. And sometimes you’d just watch as the magic unfolds.
This was one of those times.
--
The door to the annex opens around 1, approximately 5 hours into your shift. You and Steve are begging for something to do, because throwing M&Ms at each other isn’t fun by the second hour. You’d just thrown one at Steve when the door swings open, and you and Steve look at the intruder with wide eyes. It’s the Chief.
The new Chief was okay, you guessed. He was also brought in by the feds. He was a kind older man, with deep set blue eyes and wispy white hair. He could have come straight out of a storybook. You thought the Chief delegated nicely, and you’d shared a few good laughs. Something always felt off, though – but you and Steve chalked that up to the fact that you both were extremely biased against anyone who wasn’t Hop.
“Noise disturbance call,” Chief Edwards says. “Some kids out on Maple Street are causing mayhem.”
Steve groans and throws his head back. “Please tell me it’s not 30 Maple Street.”
The Chief blinks. “It is.”
“God dammit,” Steve says under his breath. It’s Mike’s house.
You and Steve get into a patrol car and set off.
“Do you know these kids?” you ask.
“Yeah, they’re kind of… my kids?” He scrunches his nose. “I keep them out of trouble.”
You pause, confused. “So, you babysit them?”
“No, no,” Steve says. His face grows slightly red. “They’re my friends.”
Steve pulls into the driveway of the house, blaring the siren once to scare the kids that were on the lawn. Their faces quickly went from scared to excited as they saw it was Steve in the car.
You both get out of the car, and Steve takes the lead. He puts his hands on his hips and faces the kids. There were 4 boys and 2 girls, no older than 16, if you could guess. One of them with dark hair is holding a hose, and the others are wet.
“What are you shitheads doing?” Steve asks sternly. A couple of the kids giggle.
“What seems to be the problem, officer?” the red headed girl asks.
“I told you we were being too loud,” a kid you recognize as Will Byers says. He is smart, sitting on the porch and just watching, amused.
“Right,” says Steve, pointing at Will in recognition. “Way too loud. Mike, where’s your parents?”
There’s a beat, and then the girl standing next to the red head quietly says, “Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler aren’t home.”
Steve sighs. “Alright, well, you could always act like idiots inside the house, you know.” He looks at the dark-haired boy holding the hose. “Mike, what are you doing with that?”
The boy’s face breaks out into a devilish grin, and you can predict what’s about to happen. He points the hose at Steve and a curly haired boy turns the handle to let the water spray out, missing Steve by a hair. He jumps back.
“HEY!” he shouts. “Not cool dude, not in my uniform!”
“Wimp,” you laugh, and push him forward, allowing him to get splashed. The kids cheer, and then Steve’s hands are on your arms, and he swings you around to get hit, too. You gasp at the freezing feeling on the back of your legs, but burst into laughter, trying to wrestle Steve back into the flow. This goes on for entirely too long before you suddenly realize that it probably isn’t a good look to be out here responding to a call and then partaking in the offense.
“Steve,” you say, and that’s all it takes for him to snap back into reality.
“This is fun and all,” he says, letting you go. “But we came to bust you, not join in.”
The curly haired boy turns the water off and Mike sets the hose down. Steve has a way with kids. He’s able to level with them and call them out at the same time. It’s pretty great to watch and it’s certainly something you admired him for.
“Who’s this?” the curly haired kid asks, grinning widely.
“Oh,” Steve says. “This is my partner, Y/N.”
“Do you get to carry a gun?”
“Lucas!”
“Sorry!”
“You hang out with Steve? That must suck,” the dark-haired boy, Mike, says.
“Every single day,” you say solemnly. “It’s the worst.”
“Hey,” Steve says quietly.
“I’m kidding, bud.” You punch his arm lightly. “You’re the best.”
You look back at the kids and they’re all staring at you with wide eyes. It makes you uncomfortable, so you clear your throat and say, “Well, uh – shift is almost over. We should be going.”
After an awkward farewell and another “please be quiet or I’ll kick your ass” from Steve, you both get in the patrol car. Steve sees Dustin gesture to call him, and he rolls his eyes, pulling out of the driveway.
“Why did they look at me like that?” you ask. “Because I said you’re the best?” You pause. “Do they hate you?”
He’s quiet for a while. Finally, he says, “I think it’s because we are really buddy-buddy but… I don’t really… I haven’t ever really… talked about you.”
You turn in your seat to face him. “Do you hate me?”
“Of course I don’t hate you.” His cheeks are red – he’s flustered. “You’re one of my best friends –“
“Then why don’t you ever talk about me? Or hang out with me?”
“It’s complicated,” he sighs. “It’s really complicated. I just – I don’t like … I get nervous about having new friends.”
You nod slowly. “Tommy H. and Carol.”
“Yeah.” It’s not really why he’s nervous, but it’s a good excuse. “I don’t want to get dicked over again.”
“Man,” you say, turning back to face the road. “I buy you a blueberry danish every single Monday. And a coffee. And I let you sing Queen at the top of your lungs, and I let you dance, and sometimes I even let you do it at 5 in the morning. I think if I didn’t want to be your friend, you would know by now.”
He’s quiet, thinking. You look at him, trying to read him.
“I guess I owe you the pleasure of hanging out with me,” he says after a while, a smile forming. “So maybe we can hang out Friday night.”
You gasp and throw your arm out, hitting him on the shoulder, making the car swerve slightly.
“Jesus –”
“Do you mean it?” you shout, smiling widely. “We can hang out?”
“I said maybe,” he teases. “It’s board game night with the kids – maybe you can come?”
You start chanting his name – “Steve Steve Steve Steve Steve! Really? Are you for real?”
“Yes!” He laughs and rolls his eyes again. “I’ll pick you up. It starts at 7.”
You smile so hard that your cheeks hurt.
Steve silently hopes he doesn’t regret this.

So, what happens when I decide to throw caution to the wind and mash together as many fucking Sonic Continuities as I possibly can? You get a big ass tangle of a family tree that needs to be split up into five separate images, that’s what.
It’s ugly, it’s unpolished, and I made it on a whim. Because the mental image wouldn’t leave me. And because I actually started developing this godforsaken nightmare of a family tree, born of merged continuities, headcanons, and sleep deprivation.
Now keep in mind that this thing is pure crack- it implies a world where Sonic eventually collapses from exhaustion of having to fight TWO Robotniks. It’s a mish mash of what-if’s, continuity mergers and personal ideas glued together. And I wanna stress it has nothing to directly do with my current setting- this is just like, The Path of Insanity.
Anyway, yeah. Against my better judgement I made notes for this insanity. Also, you may notice pictures of characters from other franchises being used as portraits for various characters. Those are basically faceclaims of sorts, meant as abstract representations rather than the literal idea of what they looked like... since, honestly, even I’M not cruel enough to inflict my ‘art’ on you.
Anyway, let’s get the ball rolling-
“Robotnikhotep”
-Robotnik Ancestor in ‘Mobigypt’. Was probably some big important muckity-muck.
“Julius Robotnikus”
-Probably Mobius’ answer to Caligula. His family eventually fell out of power and was forced to re-settle in what would eventually become Overland.
Ivo Kintobor
-Yeah, that whole ‘House of Ivo’ thing? This is the guy responsible. Most likely a douchenozzle, as there is a high concentration of that in the bloodline. Basically a minor warlord who unified a bunch of clans to form his own Kingdom, that was subsequently absorbed into Overland during the unification.
Brutus Kintobor
-Oh wow, a SKINNY Robotnik/Kintobor. This douche canoe attempted to conquer Angel Island for the Overland, but failed miserably. Sent back home in disgrace, a failure.
Gerald Robotnik
- Originally born Gerald Kintobor of the House of Ivo in Overland. He was more interested in science than politics, and after completing college he left that mess behind and immigrated to the United Federation. He changed his name to signify the break from his family history.
-Explored Angel Island in his youth, where he learned about Chaos Emeralds and the like from the various ruins there. He was even friends with then-guardian Janelle-Li.
-Started up Robotnik CORPS. He founded it as a way to disseminate his technology to the people of the UF and earn money to fund more experiments.
-You know the rest. The ARK, Maria, NIDS, Black Doom, Shadow, yadda-yadda-yadda.
Olga Robotnik
-Gerald’s wife. Duh.
-She met him while he lived in a spare room her father was renting out. She’d collect his rent. They grew close and eventually had kids and started a family.
-The shit this poor woman endured is amazing, but she managed to remain unbroken by it, and tried to remain close to her surviving grandchildren.
Grigory Robotnik
- The first son of Gerald. He wasn’t a genius, but he pursued a career in academics and became a doctor of physics. He had two children, Warren and Maria.
-After the ARK incident he became paranoid and accused the government of covering up what really happened. The obsession to uncover the truth destroyed his physical and mental health, and he died a shunned outcast ranting on pirated radio stations about various conspiracies.
-Died in a halfway house, but he managed to get ahold of Gerald’s diary before biting it. While he never got to use it to bring down GUN, it still paved the way for Eggman’s eventual use.
Amelia Robotnik
-Maria’s mother. After the ARK incident and the supposed death of her children, she fell into a deep depression and eventually committed suicide. In case you haven’t noticed, the story of the Robotnik family is depressing as fuck.
Warren Robotnik, ‘Warpnik’
-Maria’s brother. What a tweest!
-He was with her on the ARK, and demonstrated a similar scientific gift to his grandfather. He wasn’t close to Shadow the way Maria was.
-When the ARK was raided, he was captured and subjected to brainwashing treatments by GUN in the hopes of turning him into a loyal, in-house mad scientist. All it did was make him batshit crazy.
-He escaped some time during the Great War, and is now loose in Mobius, a lunatic geneticist fixated on continuing his grandfather’s ‘great work’... or at least his own warped perception of it.
Maria Robotnik
-You know her. You love her. Her life is a tragedy. She’s Maria! Nuff said. Years later, and she still weighs heavily on Shadow.
Ivo Kintobor
-And here is where things get a bit confusing! Ivo was born ‘Ivo Robotnik’, the second son of Gerald. Long story short, he was a douche more interested in politics and profit, and as such did not get along with his father, who bequeathed the family company to his younger brother.
-Despite this, Ivo SOMEHOW managed to reproduce. And when the ARK incident happened, he bought the government line hook line and sinker. He changed the family name back to Kintobor and moved everyone back to Overland to start anew.
-He’s like 50% responsible for Julian winding up the way he did.
-And yes- he DOES want to bulldoze the puppy orphanage to create a combination oil rig/toxic waste dump.
-Was murdered by Julian, who disguised it as an accident.
Lydia Kintobor
-ICE BABY ICE.
-Julian and Colin’s mom.
-She 100% supported her husband’s douchery, and was an active participant in tormenting her secondborn son in the hopes of ‘breaking’ him out of being a genius.
-Killed in the same ‘accident’ that took her husband’s life.
Colin Kintobor Sr.
-Born in the United Federation, but moved to the Overland as a child and grew up there.
-Major league Nationalist and Human Supremacist. Prick.
-Hated Julian basically forever and was encouraged by his parents to do so. He became their ‘golden child’ and was pushed to succeed at everything.
-Pursued a career in politics, law, and the military, and eventually served as a general in the Great War.
-Was eventually murdered by his own brother
Miriam Kintobor
-Colin’s first wife, via arranged marriage.
-She was pretty much his opposite, yet despite that fact the two came to genuinely love one another.
-Died giving birth to their son. Have I mentioned the Kintobor/Robotnik family history is a trainwreck yet?
Angela Kintobor
-The second wife of Colin. She probably met him while serving as a military functionary during the Great War. She is also the mother of Hope Kintobor.
-Other than that, I got nothin’. She likely died when Hope was young, by way of Swatbot invasion. Seriously, do NOT become a Kintobor Love Interest.
Colin “Snively” Kintobor Jr.
-You know him, you hate him! It’s the Snivster, bay-bee!
-His mother died giving birth to him. His dad blamed him for this. You can guess the rest.
-You know most of the story- crappy childhood, admired his uncle Julian, helped him take over the Kingdom of Acorn, spent a decade as his punching bag, etc etc.
-After seemingly offing Julian during Endgame, he briefly took over the Robotnik Empire.... and promptly lost it to Naugus, forcing him to flee for his life. In exchange for information about Robotropolis’ defenses, King Acorn spared his life but sentenced him to be imprisoned forever.
-Was busted out by a returned Julian so that his uncle would be able to properly ‘thank’ him for losing his empire. Helped the FFs to escape Robotnik’s revenge, and after spending time bumming around with them (and hating it) decided to throw in his lot with Crazy Uncle Ivo.
-He’s regretted it ever since... though he sticks with him because its either Ivo or Julian, and Julian will ensure his death is cruel, messy, and lingers for years to come.
Hope Kintobor
-The second child of Colin Kintobor. She was born during the later years of the Great War and spent much of her early life living in siege conditions as Overland tried and failed to stop the advancement of Robotnik.
-Eventually she witnessed the death of her father and remaining family at the hands of Robotnik before being saved by Sonic. She had an extended stay in Knothole afterwards, where she slowly learned that much of her people’s views of Mobians was innacurate.
-She eventually moved to the United Federation as a ward of GUN, serving as the technology expert for Team Dark. She is close to all of them.
-Seeks to redeem the name of her family so that it’s legacy won’t be one of bloodshed, conquest and madness. She’s got a waaaays to go, to put it mildlry.
-Despite everything she still cares about her awful, awful half-brother.
Dr. Julian Robotnik
-Had a REALLY goddamned crappy....well, life, basically. Take my word for it.
-Has basically murdered his entire immediate family by this point.
-Prior to the Great War he aided the Overlander Ministry of Conflict in toppling the legitimate government of the Kingdom of Amunopolis (Aleena’s Kingdom), forcing it’s royal family to flee to the Kingdom of Acorn and re-settle under new identities, with crown princess becoming ‘Bernadette Hedgehog’. That’s right- he’s indirectly responsible for Sonic existing.
-Blah blah blah evil experiments blah blah war crimes blah blah sentenced to be executed by Overlander government during the Great War and blah blah blah coup.
-Took over a large swathe of Mobius and expanded to conquer more, and for a time seemed like he might conquer the entire planet. The Robotnik Empire is.... not a fun place. Then or now.
-Then Sonic and the FF’s happened. Then Endgame happened, and he was... indisposed for a while, leading to his empire being diminished. While he has returned, he has suffered numerous setbacks since then, and the Robotnik Empire is now greatly diminished from its peak.
-That being said, he still rules a pretty big part of the planet, and is still the biggest danger to the world at present.
-Hates his cousin Ivo.
-REALLY goddamn hates That Hedgehog.
Laura Kintobor
-That’s Doctor Laura Kintobor (nee Ellison) to you, buster.
-She and Julian both worked as scientists with Overland’s science ministry, where they met and befriended one another. She eventually managed to coax Julian out of his shell, and their friendship bloomed into a romance, which led to the two marrying.
-She worked in the organic sciences division and was an expert on biology and zoology. In contrast to most scientists, she was very much an outdoorswoman. Even managed to convince Julian to partake.
-Much like her unfortunate sister-in-law, she died in childbirth... giving birth to a stillborn daughter.
-Yeah, this shit is grim.
Theodore Robotnik
-Third son of Gerald. Blatantly named in reference to Theodore Roosevelt, who was used as a visual reference for Eggman.
-Basically a professional beancounter who later inherited Robotnik CORPS. He chose to stick with his original name even after the ARK incident, and struggled to keep Robotnik CORPS afloat in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
-Set up a trust fund for his son Ivo, and tried his best to raise him to be a contributing member of society.
-Sufficed to say, that didn’t work. If he’s still alive, he has a REALLY tense relationship with his son.
-Named his son after his older brother as a passive-aggressive act of spite for abandoning the ‘Robotnik’ name.
Dolores Robotnik
-Mother of Ivo. She was a professor of chemistry who decided to put her career on hold in order to be homemaker.
-Was much closer to her son than Theodore was, and often wound up having to play peacemaker between the two. ESPECIALLY during Ivo’s tumultous teenage years.
-Sufficed to say she is not exactly pleased with how he turned out, assuming she’s still alive even.
Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik
-HE IS THE EGGMAN. HE’S GOT THE MASTER PLAN! Really, do you NEED to know any more?
-Well, okay, you do. He was born very shortly before the ARK incident and never knew his grandfather.
-His childhood wasn’t horrible, but it was rough in areas due to his high intelligence making things more difficult for him than they should of be. Loads of disagreements with his dad over pursuing science. Spent years plagued by the derogatory name of ‘Eggman’ due to his weight problems.
-You know how you fantasize about ruling the world as a kid? He never really left that stage of things.
-He initially worked as a research scientist in the fields of AI and energy. During the Great War he was approached by GUN to develop weapons for them. His research would go on to form the basis of the robotic soldiers later used by them in the Robotnik war.
-Began his plot to take over Mobius during his time there, and secretly began to appropriate resources and machines to build a hidden base on the distant South Island. Eventually his schemes were discovered by GUN, but he fled.
-While his cousin conquered portions of Mobius elsewhere, Eggman began his long term Death Egg scheme as a means of conquering Mobius in one fell swoop with the aid of the Chaos Emeralds.
-You can guess how it goes from here- he encounters Sonic on South Island and in the Scrap Brain Zone and is defeated, thus setting the tone for MANY other defeats in the future. He eventually took on the name ‘Dr. Eggman’ as a way to differentiate himself from his cousin, and to make the insult that dogged his life into a name to be feared ala ‘Penguin’.
-When his cousin Julian was seemingly killed and the Robotnik Empire in dissarray, Eggman started new bids to take over the world. He established the Metropolis Zone as his ‘capital city’ and founded the Egg Army to help supplement his Badnik Horde. The Eggman Empire now exists as a terrorist army at the beck and call of Dr. Eggman, though he’s still got a ways to go.
-Has four sons by three different women. Slut.
???
-Haven’t got a name for her yet. She was a random girl that a college age Ivo knocked up, which putty much put an end to her collegiate ambitions. She gave birth to two sons, one of whom she bitterly named ‘Ivan’ as a reminder of his origins after failing to get child support out of her babydaddy. She re-married and is currently leading a comfortable enough life. Humors her son because she knows it annoys his biological father.
Ivan Eggman
-The oldest of Eggman’s sons. In his mid 30s or so. Scientifically gifted, as his father was.
-Has numerous, numerous issues pertaining to his stepfather, a hard and strict man with little toleration for nonsense.
-Idolizes his biological father and desperately wants to be acknowledged by him, even changing his original surname to ‘Eggman’. Eggman the 1st was NOT amused.
-Eventually founded a company, Eggman Industries, and grew rich rapidly. Settled by the Bygone Islands where he pursues life as a ‘villain’ now, though really he’s more like a public nuisance than anything.
-Honestly he’s basically living a ‘second childhood’ of sorts using his scientific know-how and riches, and has vowed to one day impress his father and earn his acknowledgement. As you can imagine, it is.... not working out at all, given that he’s even more of a goober than his pop.
-Ironically, he isn’t naturally bald- he SHAVES his head.
Steve
-Yeah, he ain’t a robot here- Steve is the organic, younger (by about a minute) twin brother of Ivan.
-Utterly unconcerned with science or any of that jazz. He’s basically a bohemian beach bum, complete with californian accent- he spends much of his time surfing and earning cash from side jobs.
-Really mellow and easy-going, and doesn’t really dwell on stuff.
-Utter himbo.
Mrs. Robotnik
- Ex-Wife of Ivo Robotnik. Haven’t given it too much thought, but she and Ivo met while working in acadamia, and eventually married.
-Initially the relationship was pretty solid, and they even had a child together. However things swiftly deteriorated between the two as Ivo’s immaturity and increasing anger at the world strained their relationship, along with him being a lousy parent to their son. She eventually divorced his ass.
-After going through a rough patch with her son, she has begun to re-connect with him after his years a delinquent, and now happily supports his endeavors.
Ivo Robotnik Jr.
-Middle son of Dr. Eggman. Had a nonexistant relationship with his father while growing up, which combined with the divorce eventually turned him into a juvenile delinquent.
-He roamed with a biker gang for a while, and prefers to be called ‘Junior’ rather than ‘Ivo’.
-Fell in with Breezie for a while, the both of them unaware of the other’s connection to Eggman. They eventually went their separate ways once Junior began to turn over a new leaf. He still carries a torch for her, though is painfully aware it’d never work out. Their relationship is... complicated, these days.
-Has since become a software security engineer, making a living providing Anti-Eggman/Robotnik software to companies.
Lindsey Thorndyke
-A famed actress. She and Ivo had a drunken tryst at a wrap party where he’d been invited to act as a consultant on scientific accuracy. To avoid scandal she informed her husband, and they passed off the baby as their own.
-What more do you want. Its LINDSEY.
Chris Thorndyke
-The youngest son of Ivo Robotnik. Spent much of his life completely unaware of his true parentage.
-Eh, what can I say, I kind like the theory of him actually being a Robotnik in some capacity or the next.
-When he was a boy, he befriended Sonic and his friends and even hosted them during the days when Eggman’s schemes for global conquest caused him to haunt Station Square for a while.
-Admired his grandfather Chuck and pursued science to be like him, studying physics and engineering.
-Thanks to his mom he’s something of a film buff.
-In college he learned the truth of his heritage. This has put a strain on his relationship with his parents.
Francis Kintobor
-The youngest of Gerald’s sons. Pursued a career as a schoolteacher. While he changed his name in the aftermath of the ARK incident as his older brother Ivo had, he chose to make a small joke at his brother’s expense over the ludicrousness of the name change by naming his own son ‘Ovi Kintobor’.
-Named after Francis Mao, aka That Guy Who Made That One Comic Adaptation From 1991.
Elizabeth Kintobor
-Dr. Ovi Kintobor’s mother. A career veterinarian with a strong love of animals. That’s about it.
Ovi Kintobor
- Grew up on Westside Island, among Mobians. Had a pretty happy and contented childhood, and like many of the other various members of the Kintobor/Robotnik clan developed a pronounced interest and skill in science at a young age.
-Developed a particular interest in researching Chaos Emeralds.
-A Concientious Objector, he served as a medic during the Great War.
-Deeply, deeply shamed by the actions of his more notorious cousins, he has essentially hidden himself from the world to pursue his research and evade their notice, while helping against them in whatever way he can.
-Has secretly transported people threatened by his cousins to safer places, and once caused a mass sabotage of their respective robotic forces through the ‘Nicenik Virus’.
-An ally of the Freedom Fighters.
-Deeply distrusts GUN (which frankly isn’t a bad call).
-Bit of a hippy, but really is a genuinely nice guy who wants to help others through science.
-In some villages he is known as ‘Mr. Tinker’.

Alright so my post about Why Ross Geller is a Horrible Human Being has been getting a lot of attention lately, so I finally got around to finishing season 2′s list.
Without further ado...
Reasons Why Ross Geller is a Horrible Human Being
Season 2:
Episode 1: The One with Ross’s New Girlfriend
· When he is on the phone with Julie they do the whole “you hang up no you hang up” thing. (this isn’t really something that makes Ross horrible but this is annoying as hell)
Episode 2: The One with the Breast Milk
· Freaked out when Phoebe and Joey drank Carol’s breast milk and when they asked what the big deal was he replied with “but it’s BREAST milk.”
· Said breast milk is gross
· Only tried it when he found out that Susan had tasted it
Episode 3: The One Where Heckles Dies
· He makes a big deal about Phoebe not believing in evolution (like just the way he reacted and would not let it go)
· Phoebe asks why can’t she believe in one thing and he believe in another and Ross says he can’t (and then Phoebe calls him out on his need for everyone to agree with him and it was great)
· Literally brings fossils as evidence to show Phoebe that evolution is real (let it go Ross)
Episode 4: The One with Phoebe’s Husband
· N/A
Episode 5: The One with Five Steaks and an Eggplant
· Ross makes the comment about never thinking about money as an issue.
· When Joey, Phoebe, and Rachel get uncomfortable with the fact that Ross, Monica, and Chandler bought them all concert tickets he says, “ Could you be less enthused?” and “We’re just trying to do a nice thing here.”
· “I don’t understand it’s like we can’t win with you guys.” Said when Phoebe, Rachel, and Joey express how they feel about the concert tickets
Episode 6: The One with the Baby on the Bus
· N/A
Episode 7: The One Where Ross Finds Out
· When he finds out that Rachel has feelings for him he gets mad at her for telling him
· He asks her why she told hm now and nor before he met Julie and Rachel tells him that she didn’t realize until he was in China that she had feelings for him
· Rachel points out that for a year he never said anything to her but he says that Italian guys and her ex-fiancé got in the way (it’s always someone else’s fault isn’t it Ross)
· Stares at Rachel through the door of the coffee house like a creeper
· Kisses Rachel when he is in a relationship with Julie and was just telling Rachel how he is happy with Julie
Episode 8: The One with the List
· Just casually mentions his kiss with Rachel to Joey and Chandler like her doesn’t even care that he kissed a woman who wasn’t his girlfriend
· Now he is all torn between Rachel and Julie
· Makes a pros and cons list about Julie and Rachel (what the hell Ross)
· Says Rachel is spoiled, ditzy, and too into her looks. He also says that Rachel is “just a waitress”
· Then they only thing he says about Julie is that she’s not Rachel (then why, pray tell, did you start dating her?)
· It is super awkward when he tells Rachel that he broke up with Julie (for me at least)
· Tries to hide the list from Rachel
· When Rachel sees the list and asks Ross what it is he responds with “Okay, just remember how crazy I am about you. Okay?”
· Aks “is this over yet?” when Rachel is hurt that he said she was just a waitress
· Climbs up the fire escape to Rachel’s balcony after Rachel wouldn’t buzz him in
· “I know how you must feel.” Shut the fuck up Ross
· “I want to be with you in spite of all those things” who Ross you really know how to woo a girl
· “You know if this was the other way around, there is nothing that you could put on a list that could ever make me not want to be with you.” That is complete bullshit and you know it Ross
· Gets a radio station to dedicate a song to Rachel “The next one’s dedicated to Rachel from Ross. Rachel he wants you to know he’s deeply sorry for what he did and he hopes that you can find it in your heart to forgive him.” Dude that’s not gonna work you need to actually talk with her and acknowledge that what you did was a dick move. (shout out to radio host for stopping the song once Rachel called and told them what happened)
Episode 9: The One with Phoebe’s Dad
· Seems annoyed that Rachel is still upset about the list
· Pushes Rachel to make a list about him so she finally lists off some cons about him and he is hurt about the things she said
· He continues to obsess over the things Rachel said (one of the things she said was that he is obsessive)
Episode 10: The One with Russ
· This has nothing to do with Ross specifically, but in this episode Monica is dating “Fun Bobby” and they all realize that he has a drinking problem so Monica talks to him about it and he decides to stop drinking. So obviously he is going through withdrawal and there was probably a reason, like depression or anxiety or something, that caused him to start drinking in the first place and Monica and the others start complaining that he is boring now.
· When Ross meets Russ (okay the plot of this episode was so stupid) he doesn’t like him solely because Russ is Rachel’s date
· “I didn’t know we were seeing other people.” Oh my god Ross you were never seeing each other
· Starts telling Rachel about a woman who works at the museum who likes him and he has been “keeping her at bay”
· Is mad that Rachel is dating someone
Episode 11: The One with the Lesbian Wedding
· Is clearly uncomfortable that Carol and Susan are getting married “as in I now pronounce you wife and wife?”
· “I don’t get it. They already live together. Why do they need to get married?” shut the fuck up Ross
· I will give him this, it is his ex’s wedding and he doesn’t have to be there if he feels weird going but deep down you know he is more uncomfortable with the fact that his ex-wife is marrying a woman.
· Ross walks Carol down the aisle (like I kind of get it since Carol’s parents said they wouldn’t go to the wedding and Ross had agreed to go because of that but I still think it’s a little weird) when they get to the end of the aisle and Carol tries to go to Susan, Ross holds her back
· I will give him this, when Carol told him that the wedding might be off because she was upset about her parents not coming he said that he agreed with Susan that they shouldn’t cancel the wedding because their wedding is for them not her parents. Susan thanked him at the end of the episode and they danced together (probably the only genuinely kind moment between Ross and Susan)
Episode 12: The One After the Super Bowl: Part 1
· When the zookeeper tells Ross to meet him in the nocturnal house, Ross responds with, “Hey look I don’t really enjoy being with other men that way.” Why is that the first thing that pops in your head Ross?
Episode 13: The One After the Super Bowl: Part 2
· Ross and Joey make fun of Chandler when his date left him in the bathroom in nothing but her underwear. They even look over the stalls so they can see him.
· They also refused to give him any of their clothes so he could leave.
Episode 14: The One with the Prom Video
· Ross takes a message for Rachel but when he finds out it’s from a guy who might want to ask her out he hides the message in a cabinet
· Talks about how he and Rachel were so close to getting together but he doesn’t understand what happened. Ross you hurt her with that stupid pros and cons list that’s what happened.
· Ross and Monica make fun of the bracelet thing Joey gave Chandler.
· He is once again getting all possessive of Rachel
· Drives the guy Rachel was talking to away by saying he was responding to her ad and they had a date
· After the guy leaves Ross says “you’re welcome” to Rachel, and says he was “saving her”
· Rachel tells him, “We are never gonna happen okay, accept that.” And Ross says “Except that what?” he knows what she said he is just being an ass
· The whole thing when he was gonna take Rachel to the prom is kind of creepy since he was in college at the time.
Episode 15: The One Where Ross and Rachel…You Know
· Rachel is obviously nervous about being intimate and he doesn’t seem to care and he gets annoyed that Rachel keeps laughing
· “The moment’s gone.” You know what Ross this is kind of a big step for the two for you and Rachel has a right to be nervous and you easily could have gotten back into the mood but you are just being an ass
· Quick little off topic thing – anyone else creeped out by Monica and Richard’s relationship? I always thought it was creepy.
· When Ross hears Monica has a date he keeps asking her who with even though she has told him no one (ok I know I just mentioned that I don’t like Monica and Richard’s relationship but like come on Ross respect your sister’s privacy)
· I would just like to point out that Rachel is very understanding when Ross has to go to the museum to fix a display or whatever (keep this in mind for later)
· How did Ross not get fired for having sex in the museum?
Episode 16: The One Where Joey Moves Out
· Of course Ross is one of those people who hates tattoos.
· He asks Phoebe all the cliché questions like “Why would you want to do that?” “Why would anyone pay someone to scar their body for life?” “What if it doesn’t come out right?”
· Thank god for Phoebe and her telling Rachel that Ross isn’t the boss of her.
· Ross you do not own Rachel’s body and she is allowed to get a tattoo is she wants. I get so mad at the way he asks her “You got a tattoo?” he sounds like he’s about to reprimand her.
· Then he pulls a complete 180 and is totally on board because he thinks the tattoo is sexy. I can’t with him.
Episode 17: The One Where Eddie Moves In
· Rachel had accidently dropped a slice of apple pie in someone’s hood and when they were leaving she asked Ross to get the pie out of the hood. He acted like a mentally ill patient so they guy wouldn’t think it was weird.
· Ross takes forever in Monica and Rachel’s bathroom. I get it Ross you spent the night there so you’re going to get ready there the following morning but respect the other people who live in the apartment.
· Mocks Monica with an irritating voice when she asks him if he cleaned his hair out of the drain.
· Monica was taking a nap and Ross was talking loudly on the phone.
· Monica got a call from someone while Ross was using the phone (for nothing important) and tells the person that Monica is there but to call back later. He didn’t even right down a number so Monica could call her back.
· Monica gets another call from her mother and Ross tells her it’s Richard so she ends up embarrassing herself.
· He and Monica are acting like children fighting over the TV.
Episode 18: The One Where Dr. Ramoray Dies
· Asks Rachel how many guys she’s been with and when she mentions Paulo he calls him a “Weenie”
· When Rachel tells him that she’s so much happier with him than she was with Paulo because she and Paulo didn’t have a relationship it was just meaningless animal sex Ross gets upset
· Ross, Rachel is with you calm down
Episode 19: The One Where Eddie Won’t Go
· Rachel read a self-help book (or something like that) and when she tells Ross that he’s stealing her wind which he seems annoyed by.
· “How do expect me to grow if you don’t let me blow?” Ross thinks she is talking about giving him a blowjob and he tells her that he doesn’t have a problem with that.
Episode 20: The One Where Old Yeller Dies
· Ross has Ben for the weekend and Carol and Susan have gone away. Ross is trying to get Ben to say “Dada” but he hasn’t, Ross says he is going to tell Carol and Susan that he did say it because Ross is that petty.
· So Rachel gets freaked out when Ross mentions that he thinks about their future together (like he had planned out how many kids they are going to have and where they’re going to live) and she tells him that right now she likes not knowing what the future has in store and that he needs to respect that. He then tells her that she needs to respect that he isn’t going to stop planning their future. So basically, he just said I know you asked me to stop but I’m not going to.
Episode 21: The One with the Bullies
· When the bullies are trying to take the couch in the coffee shop for the second time, Ross, in a very whiny and irritating voice, tells on them to Gunther. I just found this super annoying.
· “How long does a cup of coffee take?” Ross and Chandler are trying to rush through their coffee break so they don’t have to see the bullies and they are rushing their poor waitress.
Episode 22: The One with the Two Parties
· I may be reading too much into this but when Chandler was giving Rachel a comforting hug after talking about how she’s upset about her parents getting divorced, Ross comes out into the hallway and he gives Chandler a look.
Episode 23: The One with the Chicken Pox
· Just dumps Rachel on the couch and says he’ll met her upstairs because she has closing duties to do at the coffee shop before she can leave with him
Episode 24: The One with Barry and Mindy’s Wedding
· When Joey tells the group that he is up for a role where he has to kiss a guy, Ross says, “You’re an actor just suck it up and do it.”
· At Barry and Mindy’s reception, why is Ross sitting with Rachel at the head table? He isn’t part of the wedding party.
· Rachel asked Ross not to give a speech and he does it anyway and it just made things worse.
In season 2, we start to see Ross’s possessive side (it just gets worse as the series goes on). But this season is mostly just him being a complete asshat.

10 with Gigi x Nicky? 👉🏻👈🏻
10: “You didn’t tell me your friend was cute! Now what am I going to do?”
Pairing: Gigi Goode x Nicky Doll
Word count: 1492
a/n: this is a college AU! might write more parts to it if people like it, but it’s just a oneshot thing for now :)
“Heeeey Gigi. I have a favour I need you to do for me. Please?” Crystal whined from the desk in their shared dorm room.
“If this is gonna be anything like your last favour, the answer is no.”
“No I swear, this one won’t have anything to do with my weird neighbours.”
Gigi shuddered just thinking about the shit she had been through that one time. “Ok fine, what is it?” Crystal leapt up from her desk, bouncing her way over to where Gigi was sitting on her bed.
“Okay, so, I have this friend who’s transferring from Paris to study here.”
“Is she weird? If she’s weird I’m not in.”
“No, no, let me finish. She’s really cool, I swear. She studies fashion design like we do, and she has a French accent, which is a bonus.” Gigi could admit she was a sucker for accents- but, still, she needed more information than that.
“And what do you want me to do exactly?”
“Alright, so you know that party Jan is hosting on Friday night? Well, my friend wants to go and get to know everyone but she doesn’t want to go alone. So I told her I would go with her, buuuuut I just found out that Dahlia is gonna be there, so there’s no way I’m going within 200 feet of that place.” Dahlia was the most popular girl in the school, and while Crystal wouldn’t say she had a crush on Dahlia - she was the complete opposite of her type - she did find herself unable to function whenever they were in the same room, due to the fact she was, as Crystal often put it, ‘intimidatingly beautiful’.
“Crystal, you know I don’t wanna go to that party either. I literally have an assignment due on Monday and I don’t want to spend the weekend babysitting for you!”
“Pleaaaase Gigi, it will just be one night. Do it for me? I’ll pay for the next five Watch Party Wednesdays.” Now, this got Gigi seriously considering the offer. Watch Party Wednesdays were their weekly tradition of buying Chinese takeaways, a large bottle of cherry cola, and watching the new episode of their favourite show every Wednesday night. And not having to pay that extra cost would really take a load off her back.
“Fine. I’ll do it.” Crystal squealed with excitement, jumping on Gigi.
“Yay! You’re gonna love her, I promise. Thank you! You’re the best!”
When Friday night came, Gigi had already spent two hours on her makeup alone. As reluctant as she was to go to the party, there was no way she would leave the house looking anything but perfect. She picked out a denim skirt paired with a long-sleeved black turtleneck, and tied her hair into a tight high ponytail. Crystal had spent the day with this new French girl- so she planned to swing by the dorm, pick Gigi up, take the two of them to the party, and drive back home. After a few minutes of waiting outside, Crystal finally pulled up and Gigi hopped into the car. Instantly, she could smell an incredibly sweet perfume filling the air.
“Hey Gigi!” Crystal yelled over her car radio. “This is Nicky.”
“Bonjour. It’s nice to meet you.” The girl in the front seat turned around to face Gigi, giving her a wink. Gigi felt her stomach drop. This was not part of the plan. Gigi was expecting to pay as little attention to this girl as possible, and get the night over and done with. But when she looked like that? This party was going to be harder than Gigi expected.
Once they got there, the party was already in full swing. The music was blaring, the house reeked of beer and sickly-sweet fruit flavoured alcohol, and sweaty bodies filled the room to the brim. Jan sure knew how to throw a party. It was then that Gigi felt a hand grab her arm.
“Where do we get the alcohol?” It was Nicky, trying to get her attention over the chaos in front of them.
“French girls like to drink, huh?” Nicky simply smirked and shrugged her shoulders.
“I can probably get you some from the kitchen. Follow me.” Gigi grabbed Nicky’s hand and led her into the kitchen, where Jan was already stationed behind the counter and practically throwing drinks at people.
“GIGI! You came!” she screamed, running over to give her a hug. Gigi had known Jan for years- she was actually the first person she ever came out to. So she was always happy to see her bubbly smile. Noticing the girl standing next to her, Jan looked Nicky up and down.
“And who’s your pretty friend?”
Gigi laughed. “This is Crystal’s friend, actually. She got here this week from France.”
“My name is Nicky, nice to meet you.” Nicky said, with her typical charm.
“Enchanté.” Jan giggled, prompting an eye roll from Gigi. “Yes, I took two years of French.”
“Alright, alright, can we get some alcohol now?”
Jan grabbed whatever pink fizzy vodka drinks she kept in her fridge, and gave one to each of the girls. “Have a fun night ladies!” She cheered, leaning in for one more hug from Gigi. As she pulled her in, she said in her ear- “I swear Gigi, if you don’t end up with that girl by the end of the night it’s a wasted opportunity, you hear me?” Gigi pulled away shaking her head laughing at the bluntness of her friend, but also prayed she didn’t notice how red her face had turned at the comment.
“Ready to dance?” Nicky snapped Gigi out of her daze, pulling her to the centre of the dancefloor.
The rest of the night went by in a bit of a blur. Gigi was adamant she would stay sober, only having one or two drinks throughout the night. Nicky, on the other hand, never stopped. By the time Gigi told Crystal they were ready to go home, Gigi was having to hold Nicky up by her sides, as she lost her balance every time she tried to take a step. As much as Gigi hated to admit it, she found it adorable. Nicky kept looking up into Gigi’s eyes and smiling, and every so often through slurred speech would either thank Gigi or tell her how pretty she was.
“Nicky, come on, Crystal is gonna be waiting outside.” Gigi said, as Nicky kept trying to pull her back towards the party.
“But I wanna stay here with you! You need to dance with me!”
“I danced with you like, ten times.”
“Wow.” Nicky finally stopped in her tracks, straightening up to face Gigi.
“What?”
“I got to dance with a pretty girl! I love it here!” The blonde girl chirped as she perked up and started walking quickly outside. Gigi hurried to catch up with her, and within no time they were both seated back in Crystal’s car.
“So, how was it?” Crystal asked Nicky excitedly.
“It was the best night ever!” Nicky said, a little too loudly. “Thank you Crystal. You’re the best.”
“I think Gigi is the one who you should be thanking, doll.” Crystal laughed.
“But you were the one who set-”
“No, no-” Crystal interrupted, “I didn’t do anything. All Gigi.”
As Crystal pulled up to the apartments Nicky was staying in, Gigi got out of the car to make sure Nicky made it to the door safely. “Bye Crystal, mon amour!” She yelled from her doorstep. “And I’ll see you again soon, Gigi.” Nicky left a kiss on Gigi’s cheek and with a wink, went inside. Gigi practically ran back to the car, slamming the door behind her.
“What the fuck, Crystal.”
“What’s up?” Crystal replied, trying to act as innocent as possible.
“You didn’t tell me your friend was cute! Now what am I going to do?” Gigi was practically yelling as Crystal tried her hardest not to burst out laughing.
“So I take it you liked Nicky then?”
“You mean the prettiest, cutest girl I have literally ever seen? Uh, yeah, you could say that.”
“And this, my friend, is the point where you say thank you Crystal!” She said, teasingly.
“Hey, don’t forget that it was still a favour I did for you, bitch.”
“A favour that I perfectly planned to set you up with my cute French gay friend.”
“No. Way.” Gigi almost slapped the smirk off of Crystal’s face.
“Yes, way. I know, I’m the best friend ever.”
“I hate you.”
“We’ll see if you’re saying that after your first date- which is next weekend, by the way.”
Gigi couldn’t believe she had been dragged into a setup. But honestly, she couldn’t really be mad. Not when she thought about that smile, and that damn French accent. And while Crystal’s favours had been questionable in the past, she sure was glad she decided to do this one.

Entertainment Spotlight: Perfect with Garrett Wareing
Garrett Wareing, star of the new Sci-Fi film, Perfect, is a name that you’re going to see more and more of. One year after moving to Los Angeles from his hometown of College Station, Texas, Garrett found himself opposite Oscar winners Dustin Hoffman and Kathy Bates in the coming-of-age film Boychoir, and he starred in Independance Day: Resurgence soon after. You can also find him in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. Garrett took some time out of his packed schedule to talk Perfect, his past roles, and food fights.
What do you hope that viewers take away from Perfect?
Perfect is a very subjective film to take in. Everyone gets something different out of their experience watching the movie. Something that I think is a cool message to get out of it though is the fact that no one is perfect, and to try and change that is dangerous. Also it toys with the idea of inner beauty versus outward beauty and the subliminal messages there are important. Be you. True you. And that is your perfection.
You wake up one day at the clinic from Perfect. What do you do?
I’d go along with it haha. There’s no real way to escape this seemingly desolate world. Maybe The Clinic acts as a sort of purgatory and you’re forced to go through with the treatments. But be sure to follow the instructions exactly as they are written…
How do you define perfection?
Is perfection real? Is perfection something you can even define? I can get all philosophical but I think bottom line perfection doesn’t exist. So to try and define perfection? I think it’s to be your true authentic self, to evolve or to be true in your work as an artist or as a person. And your best is your perfect. That’s all we can hope for.
How does this role compare to roles that you’ve played in the past?
Going from a cherubic choir boy in Boychoir, to hunting aliens in Independence Day: Resurgence, to Perfect, and now Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, the role of Vessel 13 was unlike anything I’ve ever tackled. And I’m so happy because of it. I look for work that challenges me and inspires me as an artist, and this film did just that. The team of creative powerhouses behind Perfect were nothing short of dreams to work with and I’m honored to have been able to lead alongside my fellow cast and crew. This role definitely challenged me - I lost 30 pounds for the character, shot underwater, wore extensive prosthetic makeup, shaved my head - it was wild. And I had a blast. A huge thanks to the amazing crews around the world for making this all possible.
What would you say to the character that you play in Perfect given the chance to speak with him?
Bruh - what are you doing? Take a chill pill and stop killing people.
Are you a super fan of anything?
Star Wars. Easy. Marvel. Done. I mean I’m easily a Star Wars super fan and can talk for hours on end about the different Marvel comic universes and heroes. But this all stems from my love and adoration of stories, more specifically, movies. I’ve always been such a movie fan. That’s my love language. Talk with me about movies and we’re good to go. For as long as I can remember. I mean, the reason I wanted to get into acting originally because I saw the first X-Men and wanted to join their world.
Perfect takes place in a futuristic world – what elements of it do you wish existed in the present? Which elements do you hope never exist?
There isn’t enough teleportation in today’s world. Like where is that?? I get the science behind it is probably hard but let’s get some teleportation going on here. That’d be fun. I think the literal transformative futuristic powers that the world of Perfect possesses are pretty scary and I hope never exist though. Possibilities are endless.
Do you have a favorite line from Perfect?
During a part of the narration my mother in the movie, Abbie Cornish, says “Is perfection something this world needs?” And she answers her question with “No. Perfection is horrible,” as the image begins to distort. I’ve always love that line. But honestly, there’s a part towards the end when the radio is speaking and being warped and it goes “mixin’ herbs between our toes.” Always liked that one ;).
9. What do you do in your free time?
I actually like to paint! I use mannequins as my canvas and cover their bodies in weird, trippy art. Actually starting dance class which has been a fun new challenge. I like to travel, play video games, and just like sit. Life gets so crazy it’s nice to be able to just sit sometimes. Took that for granted for the longest time.
You can only use one food in a food fight, which food do you pick?
Mashed potatoes + spoon catapult = unstoppable
Thanks for chatting with us, Garrett! Perfect is available on Breaker.io in the US, Canada, and Hong Kong today! Watch it for free with the code PERFECT!

Heart of a Lycan Chapter 2
Joyful reunion
Lycus was pissed, in fact he was more than pissed. He was downright furious. Getting a call from Peter at the Autumn Valley’s Forest Ranger Station that someone has moved into a cabin deep in the forest and to get them checked out to see if they were a hunter or not.
It wasn’t the issue that it was part of his job to check since he was a forest ranger and all, the real problem was that it may cause some complications for him and his family since they lived deep in the forest also.
He was already on a drive by patrol to check if there was any large roadkill that needed to be dealt with. but when he was radioed in, about someone recently moving in a cabin that sounded familiar to him Lycus stomped his foot on the gas taking very little time to get there. Driving down the stony driveway he saw the cabin was close and immediately had his hands gripped on the steering wheel tightly as his lips curled into a scowl growling lowly.
When he remembered where the address was it only fueled his anger more, who had the nerve to even dare move into that cabin that gave him his most cherished memories, he loved that place. It was when he would spend most of his time with...her.
His angry demeanor softens and now frowns sadly, a sigh escapes his lips. “Olydia…” he spoke out pulling the truck over and just crossing his arms onto the steering wheel with his shoulders slumped.
“I wish it was you that moved there.” whispering softly to himself pressing his head on his arms making his hat tip upward. It’s been six years since she moved away, six years he didn’t see her.
Back then he only had a house phone number and not much else for communication, he did manage to buy a laptop and phone but even with that she wasn’t on any social sites that he knew of.
But she was still on his mind, always had been and always will be.
Olydia did more than become his friend during that rough time in his life, she taught him how to become human again. Hell, she even welcomed Lycus into her home to hang out and befriend her whole family.
It gave him comfort trusting someone when he didn’t know how to at that time. understanding him when no one else did or even tried to.
He cringed at how cliche that was but it was true, even the therapist he had during that time wasn’t much help since he couldn’t be fully honest about the entire time he was with the wolves at that young age.
His mind drifting to a memory of when they would sit together on the cabin porch just looking at the stars and crescent moon together, wrapped up close together in a blanket and just having her snuggle up close to him.
Then remembering the first time he met her, offering her time to read him the stories she had written. Getting that warm welcoming hug, it was at that moment he knew deep down in his very heart and soul.
Lycus knew that Olydia was his mate.
He never told her that of course, how much he loved and wanted her to be his and only his. Lycus was too afraid that it would ruin what they had at the time and make him look creepier than he already did.
Snapping out of his blissful trip down memory lane, He takes his cap off to fix his long and wild pony tail after doing so he pulls the truck back into drive and continues his way up to the cabin.
When he finally gets there he notices the silver car parked close by. Lycus hummed to himself this was definitely not a type of vehicle to use for hunting but he had to make sure. Stepping out of the truck he takes a view of the cabin, the smooth oak and trimmings still had it’s earthy charm even after all these years.
His mind was almost overtaken by the memories that were flooding in.
Shaking his head vigorously. Lycus had a job to do and walked up the spacious porches steps to the front door and gave it three firm knocks and waited patiently for this person to come at the door.
Lycus took a deep breath and sighed something caught his nose of the familiar scent of autumn scented candles, his ears catching the sound of footsteps coming to the door. At that moment he thought to himself “Please god, please let it be her that opens that door…” he prayed. Even though it was very likely it wouldn’t be her, didn’t hurt to wish for it right?
With a swift click of the lock and a twist of the doorknob it opens, When his eyes locked onto the woman's his heart skips a beat.
It was her. The woman that made him feel happiness and joy every time they were together, The same woman that gave him love and comfort despite how he was. The coffee brown short hair and long bang that covered some of her left face, those beautiful grayish blue eyes and lovingly kind smile.
It was Olydia, his love, his mate, his everything.
She looked at him for a long moment “Lycus?” she blurts out in disbelief, Was this really him? The once lean shy boy that was now a hulkish large man? Lycus’s breathing stifled “Olydia.” he replies as a cooked grin forms on his lips.
In a matter of seconds Olydias eyes widen as her entire expression shifted from curiosity to pure jubilation “Lycus!” she shouts practically tackling him as her arms wrap around his torso in a tight hug that even caused him to stumble back for a second.
Lycus was in shock looking down at her, it almost felt like he was dreaming, seeing and holding her again after being apart for so long. Raising up his arms he hugs her close to his chest “I can’t believe it! You’re back, you're really back!” he spoke out cheerfully. Doing everything in his power not to become a ball of wild hyper energy to lift her up in his arms and spin around.
They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity until she slowly pulled back “This is absolutely crazy I was just thinking about you just an hour ago.” she spoke, Lycus felt his face flush clearing his throat “R-Really? Heh to be honest I was thinking about you too on the drive up here.” he replies rubbing the back of his head.
She took a moment to study the clothes he was wearing, it was a ranger's uniform “Oh my good gracious are you a forest ranger now?” she asks happily looking up at him. Lycus looks away bashfully “Yeah, The job fits me really well.” he replies shyly adjusting his cap.
Olydia jumps up and down clapping her hands “I’m so proud of you Lycus!” giving him another quick hug. “Please come in, we have to talk now. I need you to tell me everything!” reaching out to grab Lycus hand and pull him inside the cabin, his feet aimlessly follow suite after her.
“Sorry about the boxes and stuff i’m still in the process of unpacking.” walking him over to the couch with him. “It’s alright don’t worry about it.” he replies, taking a seat. “Would you like anything to drink? I only have water and some juices since you know I don’t drink soda.” she laughs.
“No thanks I’m good, besides I already know where the cups are anyway.” giving her a coy smirk. “Well I just wanted to make sure I was being a proper hostess.” getting a quick sip of water from a plastic cup she already had poured. Olydia rushes back to the couch and sits next to him.
“Okay, Tell me everything. I wanna know how you became a ranger and how you look so darn fantastic!” Olydia spoke trying to contain her excitement with her hands curled up to her chin.
Lycus tries gathering his thoughts where would he even start? He pondered to himself rubbing his full but well trimmed beard “Well it happened a few months after we graduated from high school there was a job application for a forest ranger and luckily I snagged it up asap. Did a couple of training courses and bam, here I am.” he chuckles giving her the short and sweet of it.
She nods giving her his utmost attention “That’s just awesome I’m so happy for you Lycus you did good.” she spoke grinning, Lycus felt a little blush on his cheeks hearing that, it made him feel proud.
“So why’d you come here? Did you think I was someone that was gonna cause trouble?” she spoke in a cocky tone, Lycus snickers “Well to be completely honest yes, I wasn’t sure if there was some mysterious stranger staying in your cabin.” moving his fingers eerily. Olydia shook her head, chuckling as she rose her hand to her mouth.
“Alright you asked me about some of my life stories so what about you? How was college and when did you come back here? I’m still surprised to see you here in front of me.” gesturing his arms to her.
“Well I had a nice learning experience with the amazing classes I took.” She spoke leaning back on the couch “ My favorite professor was Mr. Mosire. He was a cool and creative dude and always had a good story about his life with art, one time he told us when he sketched portraits of the nurses when he was recovering at a hospital during the Vietnam war. It was so cool, I think you would have liked him” She spoke looking over at Lycus.
“The college however couldn’t give me the right number of classes nor the promised time they say I could graduate. So I had to leave and guess what happened after that? The dang place close down.” busting out laughing “How ironic is that? But I still had an astounding time and made a few good friends in the process.”
“Wait what? So what did you even do after that?” he asks concerned, She looks at him with an arched brow “Tried looking for a job, managed to get some of my work published and some commission work to get me enough money to get supplies for here.”
“And to be honest, I missed this place. Just watching the leaves change so early and enjoying the gentle cool breeze. The festivals they would hold and how much fun it was when it would be October. It’s just nice coming back to see familiar faces” Olydia spoke smiling up at him.
He nods “The town is nice like that.” turning his view to the fireplace he notices the picture frame. “Is that?” he spoke, getting up from the couch and walked over to get a better look “Oh jeez it is.” carefully grabbing the photo. “We were so young...” his expression became sour “I looked like such a emo dork.” he laughs.
“You did not, ya big silly head.” Olydia retorts getting up also from the couch, striding over to look at the photo too. “I always had a wonderful time reading with you, it would make my day better regardless of how good or bad it was.” Lycus spoke shifting his eyes over to her.
Olydia smirked, leaning her head onto his arm “Me too, I wouldn’t trade those times we had for the world.” Lycus felt his heart flutter hearing that, nibbling on his lip to keep himself from saying something he’ll regret.
Taking a look out the window “It’s starting to get late now,” he spoke as it was getting dark outside “Wait are you still on the clock?” she asks worriedly. Lycus chuckles “Yes, but this was well worth the time.” he replies. “I’ll report back that there’s nothing to worry about.” giving her a light touch on her nose.
She chortles, “Well I would certainly hope not at least.” crossing her arms. Lycus' face softens becoming serious “But really Olydia, I’m really happy to see you back.” he spoke in a caring tone.
Olydia couldn't help beam feeling warmth in her heart when he said that, “I’m happy to be back too.”
when Lycus turns about to leave she manages to jump in front of him before getting a chance to open the door.
“Are you busy tomorrow?” she asks him curiously.
He places his hands on his hips “I get off at ten in the morning since I usually do night shift. Why do you ask?” he already knew the answer to that but he wanted to hear it from her.
“Would you like to have lunch with me tomorrow and have a little walk in the town since I’ve been gone for such a long while?” She asks, giving him the puppy eyes.
Lycus grins with a soft sigh feeling his heart melting as those beautiful eyes used his signature move that he would pull on her. “I would like that very much.”
Olydia jumps up and down clapping her hands “Huzzah! This is going to be astonishing. It'll be just like old times.”
When he heard that his eyes stung a little with tears slowly building, he blinked it away to keep himself from looking like he was about to cry. But it wasn’t from sadness, it was overwhelming joy.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then at the Moonrise cafe then.” he spoke as Olydia opens the door for him “I look forward to that.” She replies as he exits the cabin.
She gives him a little wave “Drive safely, have a good night.” Olydia calls out, Lycus turns waving back “You too.” and with that she closes the door.
Lycus walks steadily back to his truck and enters inside, in a matter of seconds he lets out a loud howl shouting happily making a fist pump that his mate had finally returned.
Turning on the headlights he drives home at the appropriate speed limit grinning ear to ear that Olydia was back and he was going to spend the day with her tomorrow, this was something he had to tell his family when he got back home.
