some stuff i want to say, bc it seems a lot of the time mostly only Jewish people speak up about antisemitism

it is antisemitic to claim zionism is across the board evil and fucked up and to wish violence on zionists. Israel exists and people live there and there has been a devastating war that has caused humanitarian crises in Gaza, but Israel is not evil, it has a right to exist and didnt just steal a bunch of land and start wars out of nowhere, the history is actually more complicated than "colonization", and while war is fucked up and horrifying, truly horrific, it is not the same as genocide. genocide is the systematic eradication of a group of people, and while civilian casualities have been horrific, that is why war is so fucking terrible and traumatizing.

Hamas also has contributed a lot to civilian casualties in the way they operated. celebrating and supporting Hamas is fucking horrendous. there can be reasons young people become so radicalized and violent, but that is Not something to cheer on as some sort of resistance movement when it causes so much devastation for people in Gaza and wishes for the destruction of Israel and Jewish people.

Wishing harm on hostages taken on October 7th or celebrating October 7th in any way is also fucking horrendous. These are human beings, random civilians, real people. they have families and loved ones and communities who are terrified for them and grieving them and it is beyond insensitive to cheer on the suffering from your place of immense privilege in this situation and shows a big lack of humanity/seeing people as human beings. i can't believe i see that shit sometimes (but i also can bc the state of things is dire). I can't know how it feels to see people mocking my loved ones who have been tortured for a year and could be killed at any moment or already dead, that must feel so awful, and to know that even if you dont have a connection to the hostages, it could be you or your family as someone who is Jewish or has loved ones in Israel. living in Israel is not a crime or moral failing, living in any country is not a moral failing what the hell. if you can understand people are not their governments for many other countries, why is Israel so hard to see that way for so many people? (antisemitism)

I'm really glad for this ceasefire and wish the best for Gaza/Palestine and its people and have a lot of hope for them to rebuild and recover from all this devastation (scared of shit trump has been saying though, what the fuck. thats a whole other thing tho, i am grieving the election still and scared and trying my best)

it has been so horrible to see antisemitism grow from this and to see such concentrated hatred for anyone who associates with Jewishness in the "wrong" way. the way antizionism has grown so much and into a "fuck all zionism" mentality is horrible. zionism has been warped to mean genocide supporter, and that is fucking horrible bc Judaism has references to it and intercommunity discussions around it, it is in some ways an inextricable part of Jewish culture to some and many people just see it as Israel is doing genocide and shouldn't exist

idk i just dont want anyone to be hurt, war is always horrible and the crisis in Gaza is horrifying, and ive also seen a huge rise in antisemitism in different forms and i hate it and wanted to say some stuff to make my positions clear so that's what im doing now

17. What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing?

Hmmmm hard to say. Honestly, my length!! My ability to write longer stuff has vastly improved just in the last year or so. Its made me feel really good about putting out chapters and oneshots because it doesn’t feel like I puked them up and served them up. I also feel like ive been a lot better about not being surface level with stuff im referencing or using as symbolism. Its not always the case, im NEVER immune to corny heartfelt shit but I actually like that corny heartfelt shit a lot so ofc im gonna write it even if it makes people roll their eyes sometimes. 

23. What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

Okay so this is something that will almost certainly never be written for many reasons, but one main one that will become clear in a second:

I was playing with the idea of an adventure time and gravity falls crossover, in which we go back to that moment when Simon asks prismo to bring back Betty. Instead of crashing out when prismo says he cant, Simon says “fine, put me somewhere where she is” and prismo says “hey man. There’s gonna be a major monkey’s paw twist to this. You aint gonna like it.” Simon says do it pussy and he does! Bing bang boom Simon is sent into the universe in which gravity falls resides and oh my! He’s been basically inserted into the body of the Simon residing there, hijacking his life. Moral quandaries abound, but Simon’s in gravity falls so hes immediately attacked by gnomes. Shenanigans happen, he meets the pines family (leaves out almost all details of his life conveniently) and he’s like listen I need to find Betty. Mabel’s super on board and we get a fun quest to find Betty because this world’s Simon hasn’t met her!

Except, huh. Weird. There’s things here that ring a bell but not quite. The news is ominous when he catches it. Political unrest across the world. Talks of weapons greater than nuclear. Essentially godlike in their powers….oh no. Simon realizes that the mushroom war is far more imminent than he imagined. He has possibly weeks to find Betty, but it might all be for naught, because the world is about to end. And his new friends, everyone he’s met, and almost certainly himself will die a horrific death. So now he has to grapple with that and decide what to do. Should he warn them, thus revealing his true identity and his hijacking of himself for a woman who doesn’t even know him? Or stay silent and alone in his impending doom? Titled: sisyphus’ guide to the pre-apocalypse. 

Okay so thats really fucking dark!!! It’s a little too dark for an adventure time and gravity falls fic!!! Sometimes I use it as a thought experiment but I really dont think it jives with the vibes and messages of either media, you know? I love uber dark stuff, just look at the podcasts I listen to, but I really only write uber dark stuff when its appropriate, you know? I cant see a light at the end of the tunnel for this one. So, into the scrap pile she goes! Not really something I’d “Love to write” per say, but its the only thing that doesn’t have a least a few sentences in the google docs

27. Are any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

Not really, tbh, probably not in the sense this ask is wondering. Not even my migraine fic No Excuses, tho I DO get severe migraines now!!! If I could write it again I’d write it from my experience which is really nothing like Eugene’s. 

A lot of my personal views and philosophies carry over, though. Ford’s desperation to keep working in part because he wants to feel like he achieved something in my body is young (but my mind is very old) ? All me baby. My views on ghosts are deeply prevalent. And yellow and johns interactions in o brother, where art thou? is me and my sister through and through. I cant of any specific experiences ive done. That said, theres a one shot with vampires in my wips, and the vampires in there are COMPLETELY just me and my girlfriend. Stealing out bits and squabbles beat for beat. also panic attacks are pretty accurate to how i've experienced them but who in this day and age hasn't had a panic attack or two so i barely count that.

in any case, that sure was. that sure was something huh. first of all yippee the horrors are back!! kind of? there are horrific monsters and people lost sanity points and someone got knocked out so!! it counts.

there is definitely Something Up with this village though because well. OBVIOUSLY. the people here aren't completely human anymore and everyone is too nice and the food is too good and there's a weird-ass endless maze in the center that spits you out when you get bored. oh yeah and the village is actually alive(????) and has a very strict no smoking policy.

i guess where im being thrown is the double-whammy of the sudden genre/setting change and the way that this feels like it comes completely out of left field? i was actually so excited to see if Liz's time-wormhole-portal-whatever theory was correct because there was a SHITLOAD of evidence pointing towards time shenanigans, and i had actually been hoping it was correct because i love those kinds of time travel stories, where everything is actually part of one big loop. (though i suppose that would be pretty hard to nail in ttrpg since those kinds of stories require very delicate planning, and the whole point of ttrpg is the freedom it allows the players/characters. doomed-from-the-start stories wouldn't operate well in ttrpg huh. idk im not a GM nor have i played/watched much ttrpg but i imagine it can't be easy. ANYWAY.) instead we get to the cave and suddenly we're in a magical medieval village with overly friendly grey elves and massive cows with tiny heads and crystals that can heal grievous injuries in seconds?? it's kinda throwing me because i hop into an ordem paranormal VOD expecting urban horror-fantasy and now im just getting what feels like fantasy with the horror thrown on top of it.

of course, i dont wanna get that neg with this. i trust cellbit and his writing, and like i said, there's DEFINITELY more going on here. im not about to stop watching this series because im thrown off, but im kinda :T atm ykno. but again, trust!! i'll hopefully watch more tomorrow. im just not a big fan of massive setting/genre switches like these ones. i probably just need more time to get settled in.

there were still good moments in this episode!!! i like all of the townspeople (though if i am highly suspicious of them; even if they're not being intentionally malicious they might be complicit in something / causing harm and not realize it), and cellbit getting SOOOO excited when Thiago flicked his lighter and the mist descended and the horrors returned (him and me both). plus him grabbing every die he owns to roll for the Blacksmith (who is a fucking TANK holy shit he's so fucking strong what the hell) and to fuck with i think Rakin at some point? might've been Guaxi. oh and also

AAAA MY BELOVEDS YESSSSSS

Okay okay in birth order of first to last:

Brent and Stuart: twin boys who are very much like their mother. Theyre sweethearts, good boys who are very close with their family. They love to be mischievous and silly, usually found roughhousing and playing in the dirt. They also both know how to sew! Margaret has taught them bc they tear their clothes so often, so (once theyre old enough ofc) she's taught them how to repair their clothes. Brent especially has taken to it, and eventually even starts making his own clothes entirely/enjoys clothing design and costuming. The twins are pretty similar in personality and looks (brown hair and green eyes, very tall), though as they get older their personalities become more their own. Stuart is an academic and sports kid, does well in school. Brent also does well, but he especially loves drama and theatre, and is the best costume maker in the whole school. Enjoys sports like lacrosse and golf

Pearl: their first daughter and about two years younger than her brothers. absolute spitting image of Nathaniel except for the deep blue eyes of Margaret, and her hair is platinum blonde rather than silver-grey. She's close to her father practically right from birth, in which she stops crying the minute she's placed in his arms. This is continual through infancy, she almost never cries when with him. As a toddler, she can always be found tugging at his robe or in his arms. She's even interrupted sermons before by waddling up on stage and asking for "uppies". Nathaniel adores all the children, but Pearl is truly his little companion. She's a bit of a shy kid, but quickly grows to learn her father's confidence, and tends to be a smart-ass the older she gets at school. She's kind and respectable tho, so she is well-liked. She is gifted a cross necklace for one of her birthdays by her parents bc she wanted one just like her papa wears (the handmade one from Margaret on their first anniversary). As well, Pearl is the only child to develop an ability, and it is similar to Nathaniel's. Its a horrific awakening, and Nathaniel has never revealed to the kids he even has an ability bc of all it holds for him. Ofc, once Pearl's awakens, he tells her and it becomes a point of special contact for them.

Ashley "Ash": third son and about four years younger than Pearl. He's called ash because his hair is the same grey as Nathaniel's, even at a young age. Ash is an exceptionally small and quiet boy. He's mostly non-verbal in his infant and toddler years. He usually sticks with Pearl bc his other siblings are too rowdy. Ash struggles alot through his life, dealing early in teenagerhood with auditory hallucinations and delusions. Because he's so quiet, he usually keeps all this to himself, and many do not know his struggles. His family adores him, especially the twins who always seek to protect him. Margaret and Nathaniel would do anything for their little boy, and so his untimely death at 19 is devastating to them all.

Phoebe: the last child and second daughter, she's loud and boisterous. Though about seven years younger than her twin brothers, she attaches to them almost instantly, and quickly becomes their beloved companion on their playtime adventures. She's equally mischievous and also just as stubborn and outspoken like her mother. Generally a sporty/outdoorsy kid, but she loves making up stories, inspired by when her father reads to her.

The siblings are all really close and supportive of each other, though that doesn't mean they dont fight or argue as kids do. But at the end of the day they'll always band together/have each other's backs. Theyre all adored by their parents, Margaret being used to having a large family. Nathaniel is not, but that makes them all the more precious to him.

i (plural they/them pronouns) know literally nothing abt any sport at all, and i’ve been wanting to get into hockey, but we don’t actually know how someone becomes a sport fan?? like, how do you pick who to root for? do you just start watching games until you pick a favourite? /genq

the thing abt hockey is that its very interesting and captivating, to me at least, no matter what team u r watching (unless theyre horrifically bad). it’s easier to be invested ofc when its a team you root for, but hockey is such a fast-paced something’s-always-happening sport that if you even look away for a few seconds something big will have happened. as im typing this im watching a game and trying (but failing) to multitask. (SOMEONE JUST SCORED AAAAA) but ANYWAY …

i only started rooting for the new jersey devils because of , well, wttt new jersey!! assuming yall r into wttt, you can always pick the team(s) of ur fav character(s)!

or if ur from the u.s./canada, you can pick the team thats closest to your hometown (or the one in your state/province)!!

you can also just look around for players that seem interesting and start watching their team. for example, there was this one rookie who i found his story/background really interesting, and his style of play as well, so i started watching his team, and i ended up getting attached to a lot of the other players on the team!

if you’re anything like me, and friendships/duos on a team r the quickest way for a team to get to your heart, you could look around for the fun friendships/duos (or ask me) and just start watching! i will warn you though that at the end of the day hockey is a business and those duos could end up being broken up (i was a witness to this happening for another team and it made me so sad and i dont even go there).

i must also warn you that (men’s) hockey (the pro league is National Hockey League, or NHL) is not always as accepting as you would like it to be and there are so many issues within the NHL (and by extension, other men’s leagues and organizations as well), which i will not elaborate too deeply on here, but given the polarized debate over lgbt+ ppl in the united states (i do not know if its the same in canada), i must warn it has bled over into hockey (and sports in general). there are a good bunch of female and lgbt+ fans, though!! especially here on tumblr, but over on twitter as well. we’ve carved out a space for ourselves and we’re here to stay

women’s hockey (the pro league is the Premier Hockey Federation, or PHF) is very fun and much more accepting as well!!! there’s only seven professional teams, and regretfully i havent picked a team yet (but i did watch some of the playoffs), but i think the same suggestions apply to the PHF too (except for the hometeam/location-based if you dont live in eastern canada/the northeastern U.S.) :3

OH one more suggestion: there’s an international tournament going on right now* (IIHF) and some NHL players are playing in it! you can always pick your home country (if theyre playing) there and see what players play on what teams so you can keep up w them outside of the tournament !

*like. right now. at the time of me posting this, there are two games happening at this very moment

and also, hockey is a very contact-heavy sport (less-so in the PHF? im not sure, though, but i think some of the rules are a little different). just mentioning this because i come from a soccer background and for the first month i kept flinching at the big hits. i was def not used to it !

as a last note: wikipedia and youtube are your best friends and will explain rules/gameplay to you if you need it!!!

i went to a sf6 local todayyyy 🔥🔥🔥🔥 log diary whatever abt below

first of all the venue was super chill, and also the tournament was FREE to join which was awesome 🔥 i wouldnt have joined if it wasnt free so im very glad it was cuz i wouldve regretted it if i hadnt played. there were 33 entrants which was p surprising, bc i didnt expect there to be so many ppl since it was a local + a weekday. but then again i dont really have a frame of reference for these events cuz the only other time i joined a local was like 2 years ago for ssbu. also the format was double eliminations (lose twice and ur out) + ft3.

so anyways i actually did pretty ok bc i actually won a match! my first match!! it was against an ed, i won 3-2. i lost the first set, i was p nervous, but then i locked in (lol) and won the next set.. it was 2-2, and in the final round, i even landed a perfect!!! im so happy about that ☺️ i think i did very good mixups.. it also helps that ive played like 8472847 eds in ranked recently

but then after that i lost my next two matches 😔💔 i didnt even take a single set from them which makes me so sad... the first of them (in winners bracket) was against a kimberly who ultimately ended up 3rd in the whole tourney. after that i lost to an aki. i am so.. DISSATISFIEDDDD WITH MYSELF... not in a terribly overbearing way but its just like ohh i wanted to keep playing. i love playing this game and i wanted to stay in..

as for my gameplay "mistakes" i fear i was too defensive too often. i played rather defensively to cover up my lack of skills, but in doing so it gave my opponents too many openings. like i was attacked low sooo often. and ofc i had my fair share of execution errors but thats nothing too new. well actually i was dropping combos that i dont usually drop when i play at home. ig i didnt warm up enough, and also im not super used to playing on different set ups, so thats something ill have to get the hang of.

surprisingly i wasnt too nervous when i was playing, which was something i was worried abt. cuz when i joined that smash local 2 years, i was soooo anxious the entire time, and then i just felt terrible after it. but here i felt completely fine 👍 i think its because 1.) ive made strides in overcoming my horrific anxiety disorder and 2.) i have played.... soooooooooo many online matches. like so many. that when i was playing there, every game was just like, mentally, "this is just another ranked match". what did made me slightly nervous was how INCREDIBLYYYY friendly everyone there was like omg. Wow. um. i went there w my brother and then this couple approached us and talked. and then they brought other people over and other people kept coming over and everyone was so nice and friendly that i was pretty overwhelmed but like in a good way. they were all really really really nice. i got a lot of compliments for being as good as i am considering ive only started 2 months ago (#ThePowerOfUnemployment) which is something im forcing myself to take to heart cuz like yeah im bummed out by my losses but like ITS OK... IVE JUST STARTED... THANK U EVERYONE.. cuz like ive said before im just like. super duper hard on myself lmao. but even top players make wrong calls like i do.. i just gotta polish up my execution 👍

but yeah although im tired and a bit overwhelmed and sad that i didnt win more, im really glad i went cuz i had a good time. i wish i had gone earlier, cuz knowing how nice this place was i would love to come here more, but i cant bc im leaving the country tomorrow lmao. but also i probably wouldnt have felt confident enough to play back when i was at a lower skill level. but yeah.. today is like, kinda my "last" day w sf6, bc ill be heading back home tmr aka ill no longer have access to my brothers setup + his leverless controller, both of which ive been using for the past 2 months. ill still have access to the game on steam via our family library, but im currently ranked silver on my own acc and i wont have a leverless back home sooo itll kinda be a soft reset of sort. ntm im gonna be quite busy these coming weeks so i probably wont be playing sf6 for a while. maybe ill play some last few games of ranked tomorrow before my flight but ill see.. but yeah ill use this time to write a "review" of sorts for this game that took over my life for the past 2 months ☺️✌️ i love ❤️ sf6

i feel like i should do a yapping session bc i havent in a while and this topic keeps popping up in my brain so im gonna take u thru a journey of what my relationship with tumblr has been like for the last. Eons.

to start, right now i fucking love tumblr so much- i have genuinely never enjoyed posting on an app more and like don't get me wrong im sure this one has its issues, as does every social media app, but this one to me is at least the most tolerable.

my relationship with ig is mid at best, i like it but it's kinda lame and posting on it???? Bro i post like MAYBE once a year at best.

my relationship with twitter is pure hate and also non-existent bc i got so sick and tired of it that i caved and uninstalled it like a month or so ago and haven't wanted to go back on it since.

my relationship with tiktok is also mid at best, posting is closer to a chore tbh even though i dont do it regularly at all- i also get stressed trying to keep up with reach and stuff so i kinda just dont 😵‍💫

my relationship with facebook is non-existent.

my relationship with pinterest??? God bless that app but i dont post on it- i just go there for editing content and silly content, that's it.

This app tho??? God bless. I barely even scroll on it- i mostly come here to post, which makes it the only one of it's kind on my phone (90% posting, 10% scrolling)

but when i do scroll on it, it's so refreshing- i just see pretty space pics and stuff bc that's what i wanna see. i dont see argument after argument or cancellable offense after cancellable offence like on twitter, i dont see lame stupid stuff that im not interested in like on ig, and i dont get over/understimulated out of my mind like on tiktok.

However! This was not always the case for me with tumblr. in fact, it used to be quite the opposite!!!!

i used to hate tumblr with every fiber of my being- if i ever came to it, it was out of desperation. desperation for silly content (which funnily enough is kinda what drove me back to it after all these years)

it was overcomplicated, i hated the vibe of everything i saw, i hated how public it felt, etc- But ofc this was way back when i had a horrifically foggy head on my shoulders and barely knew who i was so 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

it felt claustrophobic for me back then, like literally somehow- and now it feels very comfy and i love the idea of just sitting down and writing a post on astrology or posting my image edits or even my fallout photography or sumn-

it just feels like the perfect place for me somehow- Like i can write abt whatever, write abt astrology, post photography, post edits, look at space stuff, whatever!!! it makes me feel more like an artist bc it gives me a space to do everything i wanna do

and omg dont even get me STARTED on the customization for each blog u can have BROOOOOOOOOO that's literally my favorite part- i fucking LOVE changing my whole blog's vibe down to the FONT dude it genuinely makes me so happy 😭😭😭😭😭

and who knows!!!! i might even end up with another blog at some point for like writing short stories or something bc i do love doing that- definitely wouldn't fit in with this yapping blog tho But another blog means another one to customize!!!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

side note: you can really tell the difference in age/trauma between sokka and aang’s povs so !! you’re slaying these characterisations sreedie

Sexuality Headcanon: lesbiab Gender Headcanon: nonbinery.. demigirl maybe. “girl maybe but fruity” A ship I have with said character: i postulated this before tentatively but; glory x snowfall? ehh? i really want to write a fic of them hanging out, where glory introduces snowfall to the idea of suntime, mirroring the scene in hidden kingdom where its like “the first lesson is to sleep. you need it” yknow! glory understands snowfalls queen trauma so well, glorys young too and while her legacy is success she only became queen to save her tribe in the face of a horrific prophecy. i would love to see a more slowburn for snowfall realizing nightwings are pretty ok and glory could help, sympathizing with the things that they did while under pressure while still forgiving/not forgiving them. like i think glorys the best character for making the point of; what happened to you was wrong, bad, and unnecessary, it was done with malicious intent, but those that did it thought it necessary, were not doing it for fun, and no longer have the need to do it. the intersection between.. justice, revenge, and healing vs sympathizing and understanding the grief those against you might be going through and understanding that since theyre not going away you need to come to terms with them. ofc their situations are different but i think a nice parallel and different enough to make a point. id love to see them argue about how the monarchy is bad or maybe have snowfall consider lax rainwing protocol for icewing society as well as the games to become queen so she doesnt have to kill or be killed. i also kinda maybe ship snowfall x hazel so maybe all 3 of them are there. i like it A BROTP I have with said character: i want glory and peril to be friends.. i wanna write a short character study fic about them and how they viewed their time under scarlet. i think of all people glory would understand needing to be weaponized to keep oneself safe, and i like the idea of peril more apprehensive to approach glory because of her emotions. she feels more feelings than peril does who only ever really feels angry or excited. OH YEAH i really wanted to write a fic where they have a lil therapy session because sunny insists upon it, but its only the two of them to see if they can socialize, where glorys supposed to drop her mask scales because hiding her emotions isnt healthy while peril has to try and pin down her feelings while they talk because she needs to learn social cues and other dragons feelings and what better way than with a dragon who shows their feelings so clearly? i just want them to talk about the fallout of the prophecy in a very frank and understanding way. plus i like tsunami and glory, i feel like perhaps tsunami was not nice enough to glory while under the mountain while still wanting to defend them, tsunamis shtick is trying to protect her friends while glorys shtick is trying to protect herself and a few save dragons around her. id love to see the both of them try and get the other to have more wide reaching empathy for others as well as. argue the ethics of being queens gfhjgfd A NOTP I have with said character: glory and deathbringer i fucking hate deathbringer. aside from the age (and yes actually id be uncomfortable with an 18 year old dating a 30+ year old too yeah thank you) deathbringer is just too immature and giddy and non serious. i know the conceit is supposed to be, just like thorn/smolder, that its a character who is serious and haughty as a defense mechanism getting their walls broken down by someone who pushes them into having fun where theyre actually also fun and mischievious and joking on the inside, but like. this is NOT the time. hes annoying and aggravating and i dont see the charming aspect when i know that glory is young and traumatized and in the midst of basically the worst event of her life and deathbringer is basically the first dragon whos nice to her SPECIFICALLY to flirt with her. and i cant believe that deathbringer knew WELL That the rainwings were being kidnapped and tortured TO DEATH and didnt do basically anything to warn her. he is a NIGHTWING adult during the time in which they are enslaving her tribe so i can safely side with snowfall on this one and say Fuck Nightwings Until They Repent. A random headcanon: glory definitely makes wide reforms to rain/night society in regards to being more progressive and welcoming. making more accessible houses for houseless rainwings, getting rainwings to actually raise children, getting schools and places for therapy, just overseeing all the business of the rain/night kingdom to have it be more “normal”. not that she wants them to act like other tribes because thats “normal”, no, of course not, she loves her tribe(s) including with all their strangeness and proclivity for nature, but.. sometimes legislature is there for a reason so you dont get unfair treatment, and glory only seeks to see her tribe treated fairly General Opinion over said character: i like glory! shes one of my favorites; i sympathize with her a lot in being traumatized and unsure of how to deal with it. the part at the start of the book where she ruminates about kind of missing being with scarlet hit me so hard... i understand how it is when youre traumatized so thoroughly and basically alone though you have friends AROUND you, that you become a bit “selfish” because you just want to see yourself safe, and then the ensuing protectiveness you feel over people like you. i like that she cares about justice, which is not always kind and given through nice words. i do wish her trauma about being almost MURDERED by her guardians as well as abused ALL HER FUCKING LIFE was grappled with more (and yes im one of the anti sunnys who think she was a real bitch for demanding that glory forgive the dragons who TAUGHT HER SHE WAS WORTHLESS. if sunny feels bad for the guardians who didnt abuse her to the extent that they did glory than thats HER issue, and she has no place pushing the decision to forgive them onto glory, when iirc webs never even fucking feels bad). she also gets a hard case of “turns into nothing when its not her POV” and so fucking aggravatingly is that her given personality trait is “i love my boyfriend who is 2x my age”. her aggression, sense of justice, wittiness and haughtiness are scrubbed clean and replaced with little romantic quips with some guy i hate. she has so much left to her character and so much insight to offer in a lot of what happens in the book but, no, shes just set aside.. id also love to see what shes actually doing as queen

What’s the deal with padmavati?

this is going to be a long long post im so sorry in advance.... to start off with, im a diaspora kid raised in a dominant caste hindu family, and i just finished watching this movie in hindi which is not a language i understand well so if i didnt catch some things im so sorry and please feel free to add more. 

im basically going to separate the movie from the news event, and go further into why its both a bad movie and a bigoted one. the rest of this is under the cut

ok! padmavati/padmaavat (they had to change the name) as a movie and as a general News Item is .... a fucking disaster. 

in terms of the news, the karni sena which is a hindu nationalist (terrorist) group decided that this movie was an affront to their ancestors and dishonored their “queen” padmavati. Padmavati is the character in a Sufi poem called the Padmavat, and thus did not actually exist. There was talk of some dream sequence where she got with Khilji, the antagonist but most people are pretty sure it doesnt exist. The Karni Sena and their ilk has turned to rioting since the Indian Supreme Court ruled that the movie should be allowed to play, and their latest act of Rajput Valor has been attacking schoolchildren to show India the true glory of their caste. Before the movie came out there was a bounty on Deepika Padukone’s nose, her head, the director Bhansali’s head, and threats by Rajput women to commit jauhar (burn themselves alive). 

All of this, notably, without a great deal of interference and sometimes the tacit encouragement of the BJP government in power both within the provinces that are affected as well nationally. 

This mess meant that the movie released about 2 months after it was supposed to, and created this idea that to watch it was to support free speech. 

padmavaavat as a MOVIE is also a giant fucking mess.

it’s got a ridiculously regressive worldview, and the movie so far is casteist, sexist, islamophobic and homophobic. it is also a poorly written, plotted, and edited movie. 

casteist: it glorifies the dominant rajput caste, does not include anyone from outside that caste at all, will not fucking shut up about rajput valor when its clear in the present that rajput valor and values has led to a lot of shitty things. within the movie the rajputs basically constantly lose yet are still somehow portrayed as winners. their biggest victory comes from padmavati, who is from Singhal (sri lanka) and uses her intelligence instead of just fronting about her “rajput values.” Also historically the rajputs didnt become winners until they surrendered to the mughals and became commanders of the mughal army. they’re huge losers who are trying to rewrite history because theyre a pathetic martial caste known for hundreds of their women burning themselves alive when the men lose a batttle. 

sexist: the whole concept of jauhar is based on the idea that a woman’s chastity is more important than their life. 11 year old girls, pregnant women, it doesnt matter. A rajput woman cannot be allowed to live if there is even a glimmer of doubt that she may be touched by a man. Within this, she doesn’t even have the dignity to choose to die, and must ask permission beforehand from her husband. Are there women who might have wanted to live? Who knows? They’re all dead now, coerced into burning themselves alive. I’d also like to add that the movie never addresses the fate of the /non/ rajput women, which highlights a huge issue of caste and how it affects gender dynamics of hindu women. Dominant caste women are considered pure, and so they must die to preserve this purity. Other women are ignored -- if they are taken as slaves, it doesnt matter because the real victory is that khilji couldnt take the Rajput women. 

Islamophobic: the entire movie exists to highlight the differences between the “perverse” “dark” “dank” “dirty” “insane” “cheating” “evil” Muslim, and the “clean” “light” “honorable” “pure” Hindu. The colors, the scenery, the food, and of course the characters themselves, all serve this insidious idea that Muslims are the savage invader, in India to plunder everything beautiful about it, especially its dominant caste women. By all nominal accounts, Khilji was a conqueror, and he acted like many conquerors did -- including, I might add, many “hindu” conquerors. If he was crueler than other conquerors, that is of course because of who he was as a person and not because of his religion. Khilji’s wife played by Aditi Rao hydari might have been the only actually good muslim character and even then she’s portrayed as the islamophobic victim muslim wife, trapped in a horrific marriage with a savage. There’s more to be said but like ... the foundation of this movie is the idea of a primordial culture clash which of course doesnt actually exist 

homophobic: malik kafur is khilji’s eunuch slave general and he’s portrayed as being in love with khilji. its one sided, and theres one homophobic comment by the rajputs at some point. khilji maybe could be seen as reciprocating a little but tbh its all just to further this idea that khilji and co are savage, foreign (muslim) perversions. a few scenes directly contrast malik and khilji v padmavati and ratan and clearly, the hindu heterosexual couple is meant to be the good, pure, holy one. i will say malik/khilji was the only pair i was really rooting for, and this was an almost 3 hour movie meant to center on padmavati/ratan. 

bhansali also lowkey exotified sri lanka and made it seem as like .. some foreign place with lots of buddha statues and like ... shes this strange jungle princess??? i appreciate the mention of buddhism in sri lanka/south india but i dont think she was shown to be buddhist so .... yikes. also it was 7 minutes but it was weird. he cant do anything right. 

special shoutout to the absolutely horrific jauhar scene for valorizing and glorifying hundreds of dominant caste women killing themselves because their king is too incompetent to win in single combat. the way khilji wins is btw a pathetic attempt by bhansali to make his victory actually ratan’s victory even tho ratan is a huge loser who cheats on his first wife, drones on about his honor to the point where i want to kill him myself, has the military sense of a guppy fish, and is visibly proud that the love of his life wants to burn herself alive for him. 

also SPECIAL shoutout to the end positioning of the battle between the rajputs and khilji as a “dharma yudh” or a war of righteousness. it is compared to rama v ravana, and the kurkshetra war and khilji v rajput is said to be the third war of righteousness, akin to these religious struggles. khilji is directly compared to ravana. its ridiculous. its dangerous. its horrific. of course the victory of truth in this instance is that the women khilji covets (only the dominant caste ones ofc) are burned to death. to position khilji (whose army carries flags that look EXactly like the pakistani flag) as the essence of pure evil, and the fight against him a righteous war of religion in this especially islamophobic time is disgusting. the writers should be ashamed. 

As a movie, the dialogues which i admit i didnt fully understand are apparently overwrought, sappy and ridiculous. 

the plot was too much, there were a bunch of plot points that could have been cut to make a better movie.

i was never convinced of the central love pair because there really wasnt anything about them that made me feel the other was worth being their one and only love. the falling in love process was rushed to the point that i think it should have been cut out altogether and the movie should have started with padmavati established as his queen. 

the treatment of ratan’s first wife was horrific -- shes basically sidelined and is jealous a few times and then kills herself along with everyone in the fire. just ... bad writing all around. 

the editing overall was bad. the editing of ghoomar to make the karni sena happy was atrocious. 

i hated ratan, i liked padmavati for like 30 minutes maybe when she’s in charge of the kingdom and is smart, i liked khilji despite the ways he was villanized, i liked aditi rao hydari as khilji’s wife, i liked malik kafur. the visuals were fine but the battles looked weird. 

overall its a shitty bigoted movie that people are watching because the movie itself is like ... soft bigotry and portrays a bigoted worldview but the karni sena hindu rajput terrorists are stupid and decided to throw a fit and stone schoolchildren. it became some free speech victory to go watch a movie that espouses the same worldview as the ones trying to shut it down bc 2018 sucks.

literally have no idea where to start so im just gonna randomly rapid fire :] here are my thoughts on 999 in general + the last ending in particular

which is basically that im a bit :T with just how much was left unexplained and also the lack of a 'veil lifting'... like ok ill explain what i mean by a 'veil lifting' first, so essentially ok alright akane and santa are the masterminds right? ok thats cool thats crystal, but its just... it just feels so odd how we never really see them drop their facades at any point. like ok santa briefly drops his and goes 'haha ya got me. im the secretary lol' but then he dips out and we Never See Him Again. and its even worse with akane like ok sure i dont need to see her acting like zero thats whatever but its just like.... man it wouldve been really nice and rewarding to see santa and akane act like the siblings they are yknow. like i get that it was all an act but its just so unfulfilling to never see them drop their act and show how much they care abt each other, at least not in the present day. and like jeezzz in the ending... when i thought like oh hey look the games actually going to show me akane and santa! .....it turns out to be butt-naked alice. like.... dude. like Dude did we not JUST have a whole moment where the game was like 'Yeah alice was just a red herring haha gotcha good'. like alice's appearance was just bewildering and not in a very funny or relieving way and it just like, left more questions than answers and not in a good way, especiallyyyy considering just how much was left unanswered like.... like just how exactly did santa and akane even manage to pull any of this off like. are they secret millionaires or something what the fuck. or lotus! what the hell is up with lotus huh! why is she involved in any of this! whats her backstory w being a former cyber security expert for some firm huh? or whats with snake's new cult outfit?! AND HOW IS JUNE ALIVE....??? like ok i skimmed thru this famitsu interview w the director where he explains a bunch of unexplained things and its like... naw i do not believe what hes saying cuz they hardly make sense. saying that 'june is a living breathing human whose 100% alive and not a walking paradox' like ermm.. i have more things to say abt this but im sleepy + hungry sooo ill post them as i think abt them haha. but in spite of my complaints i did enjoy this game very much, aside from the first puzzle with that bitch of a hidden bed, i had no other troubles with any of the other puzzles ^_^ incredible art atmosphere and music and the writing, in spite of its shortcomings, was still really intriguing and fun to play! it was a good game 👍

so in general i loved the art direction of the game, it was very grungey edgey the 3d backgrounds and models worked super duper well with the illustrated sprites and and the atmosphere of the game was just top notch the entire time, the music was super good too like it was the right amount of funky tense and scary when it needed to be i loveeed it... as to that LAST ENDING... okkk so.. i got teary eyed quite a number of times OFC like when snake and clover reunited QwQ and when i learned of how akane horrifically died Q_Q and when she finally got saved.. QuQ and likeee i really really do like that akane turned out to be zero i was not expecting that!! i wasnt completely on board w the prev route's conclusion that santa was zero but like i said there were just so many possibilities and i really didnt know who on earth zero could possibly be!!

but with that said i really do like the reveal that its akane and that shes saving herself in a way like seriously i think thats soooo very very cool and probably the best part abt this ending and the game in general, which is that the heroine set up all this messed up shit just so she could save herself from a really cruel and terrible death. i really love that. i reallyyyy love a girl who saves herself... THATS AWESOME... although shes saving herself thru a guy but shes still saving herself in a way yknow i like it a lot. and its the fact that its just so incredibly awesome how zero has been akane this whole time and has been saving herself is this whole time that does a lot of heavy lifting for my less favorable complaints w this ending and the game in general..

THE NEXT person she met was luffy. she only met luffy bc he infiltrated a banquet thing by sitting underneath a cart. classic luffy. she didnt meet nami and usopp until WAAAAY later. yadda yadda yadda shit goes down (i wrote a whole arc for this. it’s called the princess and the pirates lmao original but yes i wrote an entire arc for her recruitment and it’s A Lot) ANYWAYS luffy asked her to join the crew but she declined at first bc she thought pirates were just like her father: power-hungry and murderous. however that obv changed when she was exposed to the straw hats more when luffy defeated jed who ate the ___ ___ fruit (tbh i forgot what fruit he ate im sorry) she KNEW she belonged with the straw hats. :’) she still be sailin with the legends. shes had some wild times obv. her arc comes a bit after thriller bark. woopie!!!!!!! like always, lemme know if u wanna know more about her!!!

if that's the criticism then that's the criticism, but this was about people criticizing his tone and approach to the stream he did today, and not a slow buildup of frustration with his character over time. if ppl want to criticize his character, be my guest, but you can also just. not. watch. stuff w him in it. if you dont like his approach to heavy lore theres nothing forcing you to engage with it.

personally I felt like techno coming in was a breath of fresh air for the prison arc and a potential optimistic turn, after c!dream has been brutally tortured for the past several months! maybe this is just my opinion but the server has always balanced the heavy with the light, and I'm of the opinion that Tommy's stay in the prison and everything since Quackity started visiting Dream has been too heavy without any reprieve; its like watching the exile arc live again, just time after time of having to see or know that a person is being horrifically abused, without any humor to balance it out. even quackity's new lore streams have heavy scenes and then lighter ones (with sinister undertones, ofc).

so my personal opinion is that on a lot of fronts, techno's involvement was necessary (thematically, and in the tone, plot thread payoff, relationships, and character beliefs), and will better serve the arc as a whole

it also did not come across that jarring of a tonal dissonance to me, everything techno did felt perfectly natural in my opinion? like again, to me it feels like ppl are assuming the worst of him just because he didnt behave or communicate in a way that they expected or understood to be the appropriate behavior for the situation

ok hot take but. c!techno / cc!techno is not obligated to take the lore seriously, and that fact doesnt rob the story of any weight or narrative stakes. because perhaps the point is not to challenge c!techno, the point is to have the loudest voice against oppressive systems of power walk into the building that's kept a man imprisoned in solitary confinement & tortured for 6 months. there are Themes at play here, and I'm interested to see where they lead, especially if this heads toward the conclusion of the prison storylines. One of most stressful jobs ever, all day people are lying to you, when you show up to a situation it typically doesn’t mean something great is happening, pulling people over to give them tickets must feel like a shitty thing to do when a quota is set by dept. most are good at their job. It’s the few who we see in videos that show a lack of training and or skill under stressful situations. And same goes for this except when these observations are made immediate malfunction cognitive dissonance ensues. The difference with the outrage is they have a decent influence on so many sectors of this country, you can literally be black balled for life from anything. The collective identity makes sure that you think in terms of Group first and prior to anything else. On top of this, Judaism actively teaches infiltration of positions of power, politics, msm, and so on simply in order to better their chances at survival by group based nepotism. Imo the narratives have been twisted by the winners. This where the whole “history is written by the winners” phrase comes in. You have a full understanding of just how powerful the influence is when it comes to people just simply speaking about, or asking genuine questions etc.

hi i want to talk abt foi bc its legit among the coolest things ive done; this is long as Fuck but the book is longer i just really wanna talk,, abt this,,

it’s a high fantasy set on the northernmost side of a huge desert (a sea borders its northern side; beyond the sea is a country filled with plains and forests)

there were seven tribes (i still need to look up definitions and see if thats the most accurate term for what im goin for; im thinking abt just using ‘city’ tbh but yknow) in the desert:

-the riches tribe, whose people could shape gemstones and metals (think metalbending but add precious stones in the mix; each person can only control one thing and ur power is usually decided by the stars or some shit)

-the elements tribe, who could control the forces of wind, fire, water, or stone (now LITERALLY think atla; powers are passed down genetically and a few people can control two elements if their parents controlled different ones)

-the land, sky, and sea tribes, who could control animals related to their tribe (land tribe ppl can also learn to turn into their favored animal, sky tribe ppl grow wings as toddlers, sea tribe ppl can breathe underwater & usually live in the sea on the northern border of the desert bc they dont do well on land; powers are decided based on the animals’ preferences – e.g. if ravens had a specific affinity for a kid in the sky tribe the kid would grow raven wings and be able to communicate with and eventually control ravens)

-the time and space tribes, who destroyed each other 60 years ago, and have the power to speed, slow, or even stop time during the hour of their birth, or manifest physical objects from glowing blue energy that makes up everything in the world (also can see in the dark, i guess?)

60 years ago, a huge war happened between the seven tribes, wiping out the space tribe completely (except for one person; more on that later) and destroying all but 200 of the time tribe, who repopulated to about 1,000, and ruining a Lot of stuff in the other five tribes. for the most part the remaining 5 tribes (minus the time tribe for Reasons) have rebuilt themselves but hints of the past war linger. no one is aware that the time tribe survived (they rebuilt their city FAR from the original location). the time and space tribes faded from public consciousness pretty quickly since all their historical records were destroyed; most of the knowledge about them now is legends and myths

in the present day, 5 children (one from each of the remaining tribes) who lost various loved ones to the same glowing blue knives (created, ofc, by the surviving member of the space tribe, ebon (…courtesy of 2012 me’s genius naming skills, they’re all gonna be like this it’s part of the aesthetic), though the kids dont know that or even recognize it as a space tribe power) are approached by an old man (guess who! its ebon) who claims to be the last surviving member of the space tribe and apparently has evidence that the time tribe is plotting revenge and theyre the ones that killed the kids’ families and he speaks of a supposed prophecy that 5 kids who the time tribe had stolen from are gonna defeat the time tribe once and for all

the kids (and at this point, hopefully the reader too) are the wrong kind of genre savvy, and believe they’ve been approached by gandalf or some shit, and each end up Accepting The Call

(meanwhile back at the time tribe, the king and his rebellious teenage son talk about the future of the time tribe. teenage son, midnight (heyy GUESS what hour hes able to use his powers) learns to use Time Powers that are suspiciously dissimilar to the ones ebon was talking abt the ppl from the time tribe being able to use. midnight uses his powers to get more sleep bc his dad kinda overworks the shit out of him bc like the future of this horrifically unstable and tiny city is in midnight’s hands, basically, and we learn that Its Dangerous bc if u get stuck slowing down/speeding up time after ur 1 hour is up u basically become Time Tobias and ur trapped like that Until You Die)

if uve made it this far i think its time for a proper introduction to the 6 protags of part 1 (another is added in part 2 but we’re not there yet)

-eagle, from the sky tribe, a Massive Fuckin Jock Who Loves To Sport. shes 14 and pretty athletic but tends to chicken out when shit gets tough and so never makes it to the Fly Sport Playoffs. shes a Massive Optimist at first but then she finds her parents dead (hint: it was ebon). she deals with this throughout the novel i hope im writing her well lmao because i wanted it to have a Legit Impact on her character and not just be angst. A N Y W A Y she instantly pegs ash and emerald as The Rich Kids (ash is legit a rich kid, emerald is just from the riches tribe where they traditionally sew gems and shit into their clothes) and judges em for it

-snake, from the land tribe, a 13yo, Lonely Autistic who loves reptiles. (ok i mean. this is high fantasy and im really not sure if autism is a diagnosis in high fantasy. ive done my absolute best to code her as autistic and she is in fact autistic i just dont say it in canon bc idk how to bring it up) ppl dont like her at first because she comes across as cold but actually shes like the most adorable fuckin dork youve ever seen shes great. she doesnt talk hardly at all unless shes Super Comfortable around the people shes with, which is a challenge for me to write but tbqh shes my absolute favorite of the bunch,, also her only friend ever was a thief named lore who was (supposedly) killed by GUESS FUCKEN WHO

-ash, the 14yo daughter of one of the 4 ruling families of the elements tribe. her family’s genetic power is fire but she could never figure it out (later she discovers her power is actually water; im…..still figuring out how that works genetically she might just be adopted lmao) ebon brought her the news of her parents’ deaths and managed to kill her little sister while her back was turned; somehow she does not suspect him. shes kind of a snob and doesnt really /get/ the rest of the group and comes across pretty rude at first. (also, she and eagle deal w their very recent grief very differently but idk her exact Grief Arc yet)

-emerald, who i think is? 12? 13? i cant remember but somewhere around there; shes from the riches tribe, was orphaned as a toddler and raised by supposedly extinct desert dragons (which are basically 12-20ft desert iguanas), which were all wiped out horribly by more of ebon’s shit space weapons. she lived with ash’s family for a while when they were years younger but eventually emerald got blamed for ash’s lack of control over fire and was forced to leave, she found the riches tribe and discovered that she could metalbend emeralds lmao. shes a storyteller and raises money for orphans now i guess

-shark, a scrappy homeless 10yo from the sea tribe who will steal anything shiny enough. he has pointy teeth and an eyepatch (which covers a golden sphere in place of his eye) and hes reckless as fuKC. he was too young to remember his parents but when questioned about it he remembers blue knives (GUESS WHO). hes pretty unaware that sharks are infact chaotic neutral sea predators who do not give a shit about him even if he can communicate with them and he starts the novel with a Pretty Serious Bite Injury™. he takes a lot of shit apart and puts it back together in horrifying ways. yknow sid from toy story? basically thats shark if sid lived underwater and was portrayed as a fundamentally good person

-midnight, the 16yo prince of the time tribe, a Rebellious Teen™ who doesnt want responsibility and has Horrible Insomnia. he thinks his dad is Evil And Controlling and probably listens to heavy metal behind his back (meanwhile his dad is actually pretty decent just busy as Fuck trying to keep the time tribe from accidentally inbreeding collapsing and trying to show midnight how to lead; hes overprotective but not evil). he broke a pattern of various people born at midnight/noon alternating every century and people think hes Destined For Greatness™ or some shit; he is having absolutely none of that will someone let this child sleep instead of waking him up in the middle of the night to practice magic

anyway yea thats p much all ive edited so far and tbqh i dont remember a whole lot of details but That Is My Book!
