Astorvember day 5 - Village

I'm gonna use this as an excuse to post my headcanons about some of the settlement ruins in botw/aoc. Also here's the results of last year's poll

West Nabi Village: West Nabi Lake, my beloved, a small settlement on the north bank of the Squabble River in the plains east of Dueling Peaks. There's not even a village ruins marker on the map for this one, but there is a small line of houses with a series of jumps between them. There's also a stone talus nearby that's called the West Nabi Lake stone talus. My headcanon is that this is a small village that raised horses. My oc Vala from Long Road To Ruin grew up in West Nabi Village, and it will be the setting for a fic I'm currently working on. Much like other settlements close to towers like the citadel in Akkala it was subject to repeated monster attacks.

Deya Village and Goponga Village: There is more canon information on these villages but I want to include them anyway because I see people asking how they flooded all the time. Deya Village is settled in the highlands across the river from West Nabi Village. The Squabble and Hylia Rivers flow into Lake Hylia, which is very deep and surrounded by tall hills and so more than able to absorb standard floods. It is also my headcanon that Lake Hylia flows into Cora Lake and the Menoat River and eventually into the Faron Sea, albeit very slowly, but that's why that particular lake and river are so deep. Goponga Village is in the wetlands downriver from the Lanayru Great Spring, and wetlands are great at absorbing water. Unfortunately when Ganon took control of the Divine Beasts it caused Vah Ruta to flood Lanayru, which flooded the wetlands and the rivers south of them far past their usual capacity, impacting both villages. The floodwaters did not drain from Deya Village so it was not able to be rebuilt. Goponga Village fared better but re-flooded frequently, never reaching its previous equilibrium. When Vah Ruta reactivated around the time Link woke up in Breath of the Wild the Zora knew exactly the kind of impact it could have and feared that it would spread even farther since no one really knew why Vah Ruta eventually stopped producing rain, and before Link showed up there was little hope that it would stop on its own again.

Central Hyrule: All of the settlements in Hyrule Field form a metropolitan area around Castle Town. The Windvane Exchange handled matters of trade, Gatepost Town processed traffic traveling east and west through south Central Hyrule as well as to Castle Town and the Great Plateau. The Kolomo Garrison, Outpost, and East Post were villages serving the royal army outside of the knights and royal guard, who lived within Castle Town and the castle itself. Mabe Village formed around Mabe Ranch, which supplied food to the castle. The unnamed ruins east of the Great Plateau housed people who worked on the Great Plateau, which was a spiritual center hosting the Temple of Time and an abbey. Central Hyrule had other such abbeys, like the Sage Temple. All differed in their beliefs but most of them served the Goddess.

Ridgeland: The main village here is the Maritta Exchange, which processed trade largely from Rito Village, Tabantha, and Ridgeland itself. In Long Road To Ruin Astor was born and raised in one of the small homesteads that dotted the plains northeast of the Exchange and the stable. There wasn't enough traffic that way to justify a true village, but a few families settled there anyway. Fun fact, the exact house he lived in is the one at the far north end of Tanagar Canyon, just above the Forgotten Temple and the one that has Gloom in its well in Tears of the Kingdom.

Tabantha Village: This village formed around the eventually inactivated Sheikah tower during the Calamity 10,000 years before Age of Calamity. When the Sheikah tech was ordered hidden they were left only with the legacy of having been of great importance during the last Calamity. It remained a large village due to being the only other large village in Tabantha and Hebra besides Rito Village. There was more infrastructure in Hebra before the Calamity, allowing people to traverse the mountains and reach the hot springs, but when Tabantha Village fell following heavy attack by monsters and Rito Village was occupied with Vah Medoh maintenance fell by the wayside, leaving travel through Hebra very difficult.

Gerudo Desert: The entire desert was once full of settlements, but like Hebra they all fell into ruins after the Calamity. West Gerudo Village once stood in the shadow of the highlands where temperatures were a bit more stable, and wooden stalls and tents sprawled around the walls of Gerudo Town. This is where husbands would live since they weren't allowed inside Gerudo Town, where they could also enjoy ceremonies and events at the structure north of the town and sand seal races to the south. Infrastructure and frequent travel also made it easier to visit the Southern Oasis and Arbiter's Grounds, which had long since fallen into disuse. More on that in Long Road To Ruin. With Vah Naboris out of control and making passage into the desert very dangerous most visitors fled the desert and the Gerudo moved entirely within the town, leaving newlywed vai to live with their husbands outside the desert until their daughters were old enough to live within the town for several years.

Bonus: You know that set of ruins on the hill west-southwest of Outskirt Stable? I'm working on a completely different fic about a group of magicians who live in a massive, old manor house up there.

quite frankly i think ive been lying to myself in trying to revive this blog. Polls are fun. I want to run these competitions and have fun w you guys. I'd love to continue spreading positivity about polyamory and sharing silly ships or canon polycules, i think im very lucky that i rarely got hate and most people have been so supportive!

that said, this happened last year as well and eventually led me to stop after the canon showdown, but everytime i make a commitment it gives me a lot of anxiety. Even running a silly for funsies tumblr poll, apparently. I stress myself over something that should be fun. Clearly I need to work on myself a lot more before I can try running a poll blog again.

All this to say, I'm very sorry but I will not be finishing the competition. I probably won't keep running this blog in general. I had made plans to run a rare polyship poll, where I wanted to have a return or tres caballeros, liphiyo and scc, something I mentioned to a few people and I'm sorry I won't keep that promise.

I honestly don't know why this stresses me out so much, but it does, and I have to be more mindful of my wellbeing.

If anyone else wants to take the polyship poll idea feel free to! I also hoped to run a sapphic polyship poll, anyone interested in that idea is welcome to take it as well!

//So, I know this is coming a little bit out of nowhere, but I want to let you all know about something up and coming I've decided on.

//As you know, every year the blog goes on for, for the 12 days of Christmas, I always have a special bonus arc going on, which features short wholesome stories involving the characters and their relationships.

//The first year was 12 Days of Christmas, the second was 12 Nights of Christmas, and last year was Canzanilla Cafe. With how much end of year stress the arcs provided me, I was honestly considering not doing them again, but I changed up the format last year and made something I'm proud of. It helped me get through a very trying time.

//But I've decided that for this year, I'm going to turn that whole idea on it's head and make something complete not wholesome.

//See, I've noticed that ever since the mid-season of Death Battle came about with Bill and Discord, I've gotten a couple of asks about Death Battle since people have begun to realize I'm into it. Mainly people were asking me who I would pair with which Danganronpa character, how would the like of Kuripa be in that format, etc.

//You've probably seen those posts. We even had one the other night.

//The thing is, I got thinking about it and realized that I really kind of wanted to bring that flair to the blog and do a few matchups and analyses like they do in the actual show. It's unlike any Danganronpa characters are going to appear in the show for a while since I don't really see Monokuma V Korosensei making it to the end.

//And to be frank, everyone's power level is a bit different (most of the time greater) in Survivor's canon. Especially the likes of Makoto and Kaede, who in the main series can barely lift 5 pounds.

//So for this year's festive event, I'm doing a full crossover and bringing characters from DR Survivor in a Death Battle format, where I'll pit them against opponents from other media outlets, and see how their skills size up in greater media canon.

//I will confess, this is very self-indulgent, but I like to have fun with this blog every end of year. And as it so happens, I'm going to let YOU guys choose the opponents.

//This is actually pretty in depth, so I'll lay out all the details under the cut. It's very important you read this, because this arc rides on you guys feedback, so I'm counting on you.

//And make sure you vote in the poll under the cut as well.

//So below are all the important things to keep in mind with this mini-arc:

1 - Your votes will determine the matchups.

//I will be the one who chooses which characters from the blog get thrown into the ring, but I will be making weekly polls featuring a list of at least 5 potential combatants. Whichever one gets the most votes will be the one I pit against them.

//Which is why it's imperative you guys vote on this. Like I said, I'm counting on you. Participation is not necessary, but it is very much desired.

//If a character from the blog is not chosen in any of the matchups, don't worry. I will most assuredly do this event again should it turn out to be successful, and any characters I missed then will be run next time.

2 - This is unnofficial.

//It goes without saying but I'm not sponsored or licensed by Death Battle in any way, and I have no intention of capitalizing off their brand. This is just for funsies.

//It's also important to bare in mind that while I plan on having some of my friends help me with this, I'm not as capable of the same math as Wiz and Boomstick. So if I make any mistakes with the calculations, try not to hold it against me.

3 - This will take a different post format, and won't feature sprites.

//The idea I have in mind for the arc is to have two characters from the blog, those being Hifumi Yamada and Leona Vasquez, take the place of the Death Battle hosts, Wiz and Boomstick, to discuss the matchups and calculations.

//But considering this features characters from outside the blog, as well as how it will definitely fuck up the daily image limit with this website, I've decided, unlike the last few years, not to employ the use of sprites this time. Instead, the discussions and calculations will be done in script format, like those you see on the DB Fanon wiki.

//There will still be images, like charts and source images, and for the fights itself I plan on drawing my own artwork for some of the scenes. But no sprites or expressions like my usual post

4 - The Danganronpa characters will be in Survivor Canon specifically.

//This also goes without saying. For this series, I will take the characters exploits from the main series into account, but will mainly be focusing on their exploits from Survivor's continuity.

//It will take into accounts plot points like Kaede's fight against the Exisal's, Makoto's battles against Mr Kuma and Yukari Koime, Hajime's confrontations and fights with both Nagito and Ayumu, and lots more.

//Also, these are PHYSICAL BATTLES. Not mental debates like the main series is known for. We will be fighting with fists, not words or bullets of truth.

5 - It's up for debate whether these matchups will be featured on Tumblr.

//Honestly, Tumblr posts have a tendency to spaz out when they're very long, so I might post the official matchups on other websites like DeviantArt or WattPad, or somewhere else.

//I'm saying this now because I haven't decided yet, and if that does turn out to be the case, at least you were given advanced warning.

//For now, that's all we need to know, and the reason why I'm announcing this now is because I will need time to prepare the scripts and set up the fights.

//And this time, I'm really hoping not to cut right in the middle of the current arc so that I may do this one. I'm hoping to get what I'm writing now finished by that time, while also putting my efforts into PToH and the next part of ReCaptured.

//But bare in mind my Uni work comes first and it's already very hectic, so I can only promise to do the best I can.

//With that all that said, the first combatant will naturally be Makoto. Make sure you vote for who he should face off against, and as I said, I'll pick whoever gets the most votes.

Terminus Podcast -- Mini Episode 7 – Baby Queers on Gallifrey

On this episode, after a little unexpected pandemic hiatus, I'm finally back again!

And this time it's with a bonus episode featuring something that's a bit off the beaten path for my usual fare: a personal story-time episode of sorts!

So, please join me as I fully recount the detailed story about how I got into Doctor Who in the first place -- way back in the dark ages of the 80s as a young geeky teenager!

Given that my story has a lot of baby-queer-feels running throughout, I just thought that Pride month would be a great time to finally take the time to get the whole story recorded on my podcast – even though as I'm publishing this, admittedly I'm a few days late after Pride Month ended, all due to some technical issues. Oops! #mercuryretrogradewoes

Anyway, grab some popcorn or other snacks and roll up for a big ol' nostalgia trip!

Oh, and also please be sure to also stick around for the other stuff on the episode too! There's some administrative chat about the State of the Podcast (and your podcaster) at the beginning before the story, as well as some admittedly pretty disappointed feels about Series 12 afterward (which I kept thankfully short – as to not be too much of a squee-killer).
