I really hate ads that try to be like TikToks. To be fair, I also hate most other ads, and I also hate most actual TikToks, but there's something uniquely terrible about some supposedly authentic looking actor starting an ad for lemon juice or whatever with "hey guys so I just…". Screw that.

Love & Deep Space Notes (so far for Day 1, all quests/tasks completed, Ch. 2 completed)

The pre-launch MC editor was a nice touch to tide us over until launch.

The voice over customizer needs some adjustments. Even though when tuning the voice to the extremes gives a warning in potential audio quality dropping, I find that some sliders are more likely to come out weird, particularly the “Husk” slide. I myself have instances of vocal fry, so hearing the Husk slide have such a small range of “okayness” before it absolutely sounds inhuman needs to be redone.

May we please have more POC hairstyles/hairtypes? May we please have short hair options?

I noted this in the Survey L&DS has already put out, but the dialogue (at least in English) of the opening cinematic is incredibly fast and doesn’t have a lot of inflection or weight to it.

Speaking of the dialogue, the subtitles don’t line up perfectly in some instances, especially when characters are interrupting or talking over each other or when characters speak directly after each other.

While Zayne is my bias so far, his voice fits the least. My opinion.

I love Tara. She’s such a cute little side companion/exposition girl. I want to see her character more and explore her. Her voice actress is spectacular and fits her perfectly.

Jenna is a girlboss and we love that. Her voice is a great fit.

When “texting” the boys, there’s an option to also have captions!! I adore this. Great for people who are hard of hearing.

L&DS has graphical options for quality. I’m on an iPhone 12 (?) and having it on High doesn’t make my phone melt.

I’m on level 12 with one of the LIs, and I enjoy that every new bond gives you something, from gems to poses to new features you can do with them.

There are a few minor visual glitches, but nothing game breaking.

If you’re playing on mobile, you can’t also watch a YouTube video at the same time during the opening. If you do, the audio for L&DS cuts out completely.

Please know that your first and last name will show up as the actual character designation. I haven’t gotten to where a Nickname is used, so use a different name other than your actual name if you do that.

I’ve done all the quests for today, and reached level 20. I have to wait until server reset to continue the story, which is locked to 21+.

Hey, thanks for bringing this stuff about DnP to light! Obviously, as a someone who’s been a fan of theirs (and still is) for about ten years now, it’s a hard pill to swallow, but even when I was younger I could tell that some of the jokes/statements they made were definitely in poor taste. I never acknowledged the wider hurt it may have caused, though, and I’m definitely learning to be better than that and listen to when poc are talking about these issues.

I guess there’s definitely an element of defence, particularly in this day and age, where people immediately assume that their faves are being cancelled and they’ll rush to defend them to avoid that from happening. To be fair, I’ve been that person before in the past, but I’ve learnt to internalise that “no, people aren’t trying to cancel DnP or ruin people’s fun, and believing that is simply immature; we are simply holding them accountable so that they can make amends and make the space more inclusive to everyone.”

I know there isn’t anyone that you can fully trust, but DnP have always shown capacity for kindness, acceptance and inclusion (as a trans person, I noticed over the years how they became more and more trans inclusive with their language, which was nice to see), especially with their recent support for Palestine which so many other creators have not bothered to even talk about, so I want to hold out hope that they would genuinely want to make up for what they’ve done, and I really hope they do. We all hope that. In the meantime, it’s up to us a phandom to make the space more inclusive to poc fans and to allow this conversation to happen without getting scared or angry or defensive.

I’d also like to point out, even though I know that this isn’t in any way related to the conversation at hand, that I was personally disappointed by a tour announcement because I knew I wouldn’t be able to go. Even though the most basic tickets are technically cheap, they’re still not accessible to a lot of poor people, and considering the UK is going through a cost of living crisis right now, it was certainly a bit of a slap in the face. I will admit, I was incredibly surprised that Dan put WAD on YouTube for free, so there is obviously a growing understanding on their part that their tours aren’t accessible to everyone, so I’m hoping they’ll find a way to make this new tour accessible, but I still think this tour has a problem with exclusivity in a LOT of different areas, as you’ve pointed out. I have friends from different continents who have complained about the exclusivity of the tour, even from friends who are in Europe (but aren’t in the more Western parts of Europe; there are no shows in Greece for example, despite the fact that there’s a large number of English-speaking phans in Greece).

One last thing I want to mention, though, I saw an anon talk about the subtitles on their videos. I have sensory processing issues, and I’ve always found that their videos have proper subtitles on them. I’m not sure whether I’ve missed some videos, but I’ve watched a substantial amount of their content and I haven’t found the subtitles to be a problem, so I’m wondering if perhaps the subtitle issue might be an individual issue instead? Again, I really don’t want to assume if I’ve got something wrong, but for me personally, DnP are one of the only YouTubers I’ve been able to trust to have proper subtitles on the majority of their videos, so that ask confused me. If anyone’s able to clear up that confusion, I’d appreciate it, because I don’t want to misrepresent someone else’s experiences just bc they don’t match mine.

Anyway, I’m really sorry for the long ask. Again, thank you for bringing this all to light, and I really hope things improve. I will always love Dan and Phil, and I trust that their hearts are in the right place the majority of the time, so I really do hope they grow from this. I’ve seen genuine growth from them over the years already, but there’s still a way to go, and none of us can shy away from it no matter how much we want to.

I'm glad I can be the one to shed light on racism and normalize talking about it in this community. Back when we weren't able to have this discussion properly, I would have never expected people to ever understand or accept me in this community again. I was told by many of my well-intended friends who've been here longer than me that the only way to move forward was to make peace with the racism that was happening here. (And don't get me wrong, they meant well and they’re a very good friend of mine for that. They didn't have to support me when I was at my lowest, when I was so damaged from it I could hurt them so easily. But they did it anyway because they cared. Some of them may not even share the same worldview as me, but that has never been a barrier for them to reach out and say they support me.) What I'm trying to say is, that the phandom was that bad before: The only way to survive as a poc who's being oppressed by this community in the past was to shut up about our experiences, or leave.

So when I saw your ask, able to articulate a full understanding of the situation of what's going on here, it feels like I had served my purpose. For the past fifteen years of this fandom's existence, we have never been able to talk about this until now. And yet, me and other blogs talking about this have managed to make an impact, enough to make us finally open up about it. A lot of you feel safe enough that you no longer chose to go anon by it now. As for the subject of subtitle issues, I would admit I don't know a lot about it too much, since I never have to use it. From what others have said in the tags, it seems older videos had proper subtitles, thanks to the free community captioning. But ever since the hiatus, everything has been all over the place and they might not have that proper system to rely on anymore?? I don't know much, so if anyone is interested in expanding more on the subject, or more to where the op of this ask can be coming from, I would love to hear more. We should know what exactly happened so we can bring this to dnp to see where we can improve. (Also, I’m glad that ask opens more discussion about this now. And I didn’t realize it’s disability pride month, yay!)

"but how do you watch something accidentally with french subtitles?" you may ask, and i may tell you that it's simple, because i love english, english is fun and versatile and incredibly useful in this world, but listening to some dutch music recently reminded me how much consuming dutch art for a change feels like doing stretches for my brain (i don't really notice what i'm missing out on if i don't do it, but it feels SO good when i do), and that had me pondering once again how to incorporate some german into my diet in a natural way, because if dutch is my language, then german belongs to people i love, german is the one used to tell family stories, german is a language that feels like home but that i use so little it always takes a few days of just listening before i remember how to speak without feeling like an idiot, and so i thought to myself, well, i know bad buddy has a whole list of subtitle options, and perhaps i can pull off a really neat trick here and get my fill of german while also spending some time with thai (with which i am having a torrid love affair this year) through a show i know almost by heart at this point, because i can process the german fast enough to still be able to listen to what i'm hearing (the spoken thai), and then as a bonus, i'd get to sidestep english entirely for a few brief but glorious moments, which is a thing so rare it's almost unheard of, and that would just be a win-win-win. however! it turns out german is not one of the many, many languages offered on youtube as a subtitle option for bad buddy (which is of course fine because in a grand way, truly, why would it). and they do happen to have french, which i then of course had to click just for fun almost as a joke just to see it play for a minute or so and definitely not any longer than that, and as it turns out, on a practical is-this-doable-for-me level french in this context worked out way better than i thought it might, which is why i got sucked in immediately, easily fascinated as i am. but this is also a language that has me reading just slowly enough that it takes all my attention to have any hope at staying caught up with the speed of the dialogue, which amounts to a situation that is, you know, not making me feel much closer to my german grandmother (or making me feel very much at all for that matter, because on the whole i have a deeply impersonal relationship with french), but that IS very unexpectedly making me think fondly of my high school french teacher who once wrote under an assignment that he really hoped i'd choose to do something with languages. and this is probably not what he meant, but i suppose i am doing that, yes. both by choice and because i stumbled and tripped and now i've watched several episodes of a french subtitled thai show in an attempt to find german input because i was listening to dutch music.

February roundup - Russian

Years ago, I started learning Russian. I bought novels in Russian and a textbook. But this textbook wasn't really beginner-friendly. In every new lesson, the dialogue contained many new words but only few words from the previous lessons. The author probably wanted the learner to study the whole vocabulary list before going on but I didn't like this approach. After only a few lessons I felt too overwhelmed and decided to focus on Japanese instead.

On February 13th, I tried it again and now I'm much more optimistic. I gained more experience as a language learner through Japanese and can use that now with Russian. Plus, I discovered the Refold Russian server on discord which is a very helpful place for finding resources and guidance.

I want to reach a point at where I can understand the novels in Russian that are waiting on my shelf.

In this post I want to share what I did so far, which resources I used and my thoughts. I think I'll post one update every month.

(YouTube) Comprehensible Russian: Zero Beginner (watched: 38 of 75 videos)

Easy to understand even for absolute beginners. The first 10 or 15 videos are very easy with lots of repetition. After around 15 videos the complexity slowly increases. 

Assimil (Lesson 1 - 10)

Compared to the textbook I used years ago, Assimil introduces the language in a much more beginner-friendly manner. I like it so far.

(Anki) Russian starter deck (this one)

This deck was recommended in the Refold Russian server on discord. It starts with simple sentences and contains lots of explanations. I did 10 new cards per day.

Short Stories in Russian for Beginners by Olly Richards (Story 1 - Story 3)

I looked up many words, but the stories are not too complicated. They introduce many common words and repeat them regularly in their stories, which helps to get used to them. I tried to listen to the audio book while reading but it’s too fast at my current level, so I focused on reading for now.

This book is aimed at beginners but I think it's difficult for complete beginners like me. Ideally, you are already familiar with basic vocabulary before reading this book. Otherwise, you have to look up almost every word (like me). However, after reading two stories, I noticed that recognizing and understanding words became a bit easier (in the beginning, all new words looked somewhat the same). It's hard if you start almost from zero like me, but it's possible and you'll make progress.

I watched a few videos of Russian native speakers who are playing games I'm interested in. Like Animal Crossing or Метро: Исход. They are too difficult for now, but they are also motivating and make me want to keep going.

hello i have a question about learning korean ^^

i started ( self ) studying it about two years ago but discontinued due to college and all, but now i want to pick it up again and i don't know where to start from? i know how to read and write, but i have issues reading in one go— basically i lack fluency in reading and i often stutter. is there any way to improve?

secondly, i do know some basic stuff however my vocabulary isn't vast enough. besides, i would like to understand the sentence structure, or how they write phrases and sentences since it's very different from english. i've referred to so many sites but there's always a question— do i work on vocabulary first or sentence / phrasing structure first? or do i study both of them along side?

this sounds like such a mess and it is because i'm so lost ┬┬﹏┬┬ my main goal is to understand korean shows without subtitles and i do pick up a few words and phrases here and there but there's a lot still left to learn and idk where to start from. moreover, i've noticed that the textbook korean and the one that's spoken in everyday life is way different ( this applies to almost all the languages tbh ) and i'm having a bit of a trouble trying to figure out how a native would say it?

or example, do this thing where i come up with a sentence and try to translate it just to check what it would be in korean and check in the translator to see if i'm right, and most of the time im not. whether it's about the formalities or the conjugations. basically a whole lot of issues so please if u can help ＞︿＜

Hello! If your goal is to be able to understand Korean content without subtitles, then I think self-studying grammar and vocabulary is a good idea. I know you said you already have some knowledge of Korean, so I would refer to my masterlist and start from wherever you feel appropriate. I also recommend diversifying your study material and looking at other resources on Tumblr, YouTube, and on the Internet elsewhere. There's a lot out there!

As for your second question, I think it makes more sense to study vocab and grammar at the same time. As I've said before in previous asks, I was never that disciplined with my studying, so I can't really give you concrete study techniques. I think I got where I am today by regular exposure (on top of taking Korean courses and studying abroad lol). But if you don't have those opportunities, using whatever resources on the Internet can get you far. As you get comfortable with both grammar and vocab, I recommend exposing yourself to content like webtoons in Korean and K-dramas. These will help you with your reading and listening comprehension. There are plenty of webtoons at varying levels of difficulty, and K-drama actors have clear diction that is easy to understand. Again, I don't exactly have concrete techniques for how to eventually ween yourself off of subtitles/translations (since I myself still use them), but in my experience, exposure alone is enough to at least allow me to read webtoons and watch K-dramas without relying super heavily on the translations. Consuming this content will also teach you how natural Korean is spoken by natives. I hope that makes sense!

If you're concerned about speaking, the best way to get better is to converse with others. You might not know other people who speak Korean, but you can still practice with others for free on Hilokal, where I used to teach live lessons. It's a nice, low-pressure environment that can help you get more comfortable with speaking and learn alongside other people just like you!

Also, I generally don't recommend using translators to help you learn a language, especially if you're an English speaker learning Korean. It's more useful for you to understand the meaning of the Korean itself than it is for you to get the perfect translation. Korean is especially difficult to translate into English (in my opinion), so a translator might not give you a clean, accurate, and natural translation. Unfortunately, I can't think of other ways to fact-check your sentences otherwise lol. But I think that looking at enough sample sentences will help you become better at constructing your own. And something that helped me feel more comfortable writing and speaking when I was abroad is that, even if I make minor mistakes, chances are that other people can still understand me. Maybe keeping that in mind can make the learning process a little less stressful :)

I just wanted to quietly note for any of my mutuals/followers who might not already be aware: I do keep that index pinned at the top of my blog, with working links, and I update it faithfully. The version being reblogged is like 6 months out of date and I think every link on it is broken. 🤣 The Google Docs spreadsheet linked on it has additional info and is also kept updated regularly. I have the share settings set to not require signing in, so you shouldn't need a Google account to view it.

Lately I’ve been publishing my YouTube videos on Fridays (if I have a new one ready) and waiting until Tuesdays to post about them on Tumblr. I do that because Tumblr people seem to be more active on the weekdays, but I usually add the new link to my Index post at some point on Friday after the video has gone live.

YouTube seems to have figured out I exist, and I’ve been gaining more traffic. It ebbs and flows, and it’s certainly nothing like what a popular YouTuber would get, but it feels like a lot to me. At times it’s felt very intimidating to realize how many people have watched what I’ve done.

One thing that’s made me especially happy is that, based on some of the comments I’ve received, the subtitles seem to be really helping people who don’t speak English as their first language. People have been able to understand things from these older videos that hadn’t made much sense to them before. For that matter, I myself, who can’t speak anything except English, have gained a better understanding of parts of these videos as a result of listening harder and researching stuff so I can create the subtitles and the sidebar content. I think I've had at least one “Ooooooh, that’s what they meant!” or "Ooooooh, that's why they said that!" type of moment in nearly every video I’ve done. I just had one last night on the video I'm currently working on.

In any case, if it hadn’t been for those of you here on Tumblr who noticed me and showed interest in what I was doing at a time when absolutely nobody knew who I was, I probably would have given up on this a long time ago. For a long time, I felt like I was mostly just doing this for myself and for maybe a dozen or so people on Tumblr who thought it was kind of cool. So if there’s anything I’m doing now that people are benefitting from and/or enjoying, everybody mostly has you all to thank for it. ❤️ And since I’m still having a lot of fun with this project, I’m very grateful for you all too. ❤️

I first discovered BTS in 2015. I was just perusing on YT when I came across Boy in luv and I thought RM was so fucking hot. I’m a sucker for a goodlooking man (who isn’t?) And Boy in luv RM was fire to me 😂😂

Anyhu, BIL RM was hot to young me and so I was watching that MV like daily. Then YT recommended BST and I  thought Jimin was pretty but I didn’t really stick around much. I just downloaded BIL and went about my life. Then last year I was on my Tiktok and BTS were at an award show and I saw who I now know is V vibing to Idol in his chair. And I was like; I know them. I wonder how Mr. Dimples is doing 🤭

I also really liked that song because it sounded kinda African and I immediately latched onto the Nikki remix coz I’m a big fan. So I watched Idol and a few other songs and that’s all she wrote.

He he hee... Like afore mentioned i am African and we are super homophobic. A man can marry 16 wives and that’s okay but God forbid two men of the same age date only eo. A person can be a serial killer but oh well, at least he wasn’t gay!

So, much like society, my mind is programmed to think everyone is straight unless they say otherwise. So I did not think that any member of BTS could be gay. Like at all. And when I got into them properly, I binged run bts, bon voyage and ITS and still saw nothing.

1) I was working with the mentality that they are all straight.

2)I am reading subtitles and trying to look at the one who is speaking. Aint no way I will notice shenanigans happening with other members that I’m not focused on.

Once I was done with their content I started watching compilations, and funny moments, etc. Mind you by this point I have forgotten about RM. Like I mentioned before I am a sucker for pretty men and Jimin is very pretty. Like abnormally pretty. Like, this motherfucker was glowing in a damn crowd how is this normal???

RM may have brought me to BTS but it didn’t take long for the Jimin effect to hit me. So I was paying alot of attention to him. Which means when I didn’t have anymore official content to consume, (unbeknownst to me i had merely scratched the surface) I started looking for Jimin shit. And what happens when u stalk a specific member? Within no time u get a ship video. And that’s how I came across Yoonmin and boom! I was a Yoonminer. But I wouldn’t say I was that faithful to the ship because have you watched Jihope sexual tension videos? I’m sorry but they are 🔥🔥 completely out of context but still very well done. Also Jihope used to be the kings of fanservice so there is plenty of content.

I watched all Jimin ships and YouTube never once recommended me Jikook. Which is really weird. But then one day I saw “Jikook analysis" and it was by Mizgator and we all know how good and thorough she is. At first I was like; now what is a Jikook and why an analysis? But then Jimin was on the thumbnail so of course I clicked.

Mizgator made me believe in Jikook. I binge watched all her stuff and I couldn’t believe my eyes. And it was all so juicy and interesting I couldn’t stop. After I was done with her I looked for more and more and more until I had seen all Jikook analyses You tube had to show me.

That’s when I rewatched ITS and Bon Voyage with the eyes of a shipper and it was all there. I felt so dumb like; how did I not see it before?!

So sometimes I understand these antis and ot7 assholes. Because if you’re not looking for it, u certainly will not see it.

And its krazy because Jikook are like right in your face. The satellite/teleport thing is not even subtle. From both of them, not just JK.

Anyway, I joined a discord with like minded people who continued to point out things all the analyses I had watched didn’t pick up on. And I started noticing things too when rewatching everything. Its fun to rewatch stuff with a Jikook lense because they really are obvious guys. Its fascinating.

Anyway, all this is to say I am not like other people who say the following moments opened their eyes.

i found lmk once more in the sun/moon ship poll. it was merthur vs shadowpeach and i stayed true to my shadowpeach but i noticed one of my (then) mutual-in laws was very passionate about shadowpeach and i grew curious

i searched it up (beginning of May), somehow found a playlist with seasons 1-3 two days after i began my search, watched all of it in a day (it should be noted that i had been recovering from finals) and found myself hooked

I also felt cheated out of the shadowpeach ship because, through the eyes of my (then) mutual-in law, the ship seemed to popular on tumblr. then all the shit i see on YouTube is spicy noodles and people arguing in the comments that shadowpeach are brothers

i found out very quickly that the show did scratch a special itch in my brain (it almost didn’t if i’m being honest. i was almost put off by MK and Mei’s personalities at first but figured i would wait if our since AHiB is only the show’s pilot) and now i wanted more

i went onto twitter bc i struggles to find fanart on tumblr

i realized there was a 4th season already out (also weird discord drama???? idk i only was there for the art) AND some nice metas to dip my toes in

i leave twitter and go to yt to find the 4th season (and also bc there was a whole thing about new accounts getting called out for being “pro-shippers” so i decided to tap out) and then found out about Monkey King 2009 (which i watched to stave off the desire of s4 but this backfired bc i got obsessed with that one too and only 12 episodes are subtitled for it)

AND THEN I FIND SEASON 4

i watch it all and realize i have to wait for the s4 special, but i am more prepared for it (and now i feel more comfortable interacting with lmk tumblr) which leads to me making my own metas (this was spurred by my desire for more swk metas)

and thus i found and curated my lmk fandom experience on tumblr and satiated my brain with metas and fics and art until s4 special and then rinse and repeat until s5 :D

This is my ‘X Finds Out His Value’ OC! C is a dark blue variable ‘C’ who goes by she/her pronouns. C has heterochromia (Meaning having 2 different colored eyes.) 1 blue eye and 1 black eye. C has a very light cyan/teal-ish tongue color.

C also has an special star anklet on her left ankle. She has a star hair-clip on the top of her head which has 2 drawstrings as decoration like a hoodie. C has a sharp tooth in her mouth to chomp on things easily.

C appears to have no arms but only floating hands. Her hands can be able to move away from her if someone pulls her hand far enough from her body. In total, she has 6 eyelashes. 2 on the bottom on the of her left eye, 1 on the top of her left eye, 2 on the bottom of her right eye, and 1 on the top of her right eye.

You haven't watched/played the Eidos Guardians game yet?! Please please do, it is genuinely amazing and is not talked about enough. I'd say it even outdid the movies (..before vol 3 came out, at least). One bad thing about it, though, is that a lot of the dialogue is very easily skipped if you move too fast. This is a problem you'll notice in basically every single play-through of this game, since even at a normal pace you're gonna skip, like, half the dialogue. If you take the time to talk to everyone, stand still and listen to them banter (thousands of lines of dialogue btw), collect items to get them to talk about their past, even constantly backtrack, the game will probably take over 20 hours to beat (meanwhile most play-throughs online struggle to reach even 16). I suppose one play-through that I enjoyed was Maximilian Dood's, but he was kinda mean to Rocket at... certain parts. I honestly just recommend buying the game, as it's on sale right now on steam. The difficulty can be changed, so you can focus on the story and characters. Subtitles are kind of a must since some dialogue can sound a bit unclear. New personalities, voices and appearances might take some getting used to, but eventually it'll feel as natural as the MCU ones. OK I'm very sorry for bombarding you like this, I just reeaally like this game and its character/world building. It's just.. the fanfiction world for this game is tragic. A wasteland. So much potential, so many discussions to be had... argh Alright just one last thing, why do people say game!Rocket when they're referring to Eidos Rocket? There are TWO games y'know! There's also the telltale one! The one with easily the NICEST Rocket out of them all (if you're nice to him)! i'm done with the essay bye!! - eidos 2021 gotg game stan

Why I still miss Julie e os Fantasmas

It is very interesting to watch the fandom Julie and the Phantoms (Netflix). They're so desperately waiting for the second season four years after the release of the first one. I even came across YouTube Shorts where someone from the cast said that they'd like to return to the project. But do you know who else probably would be happy to return to their series? The actors of the original.

Firstly, in 2021 there were rumors that a full-length film with old actors would be released.

Secondly, I was struck by: a) the interest with which Bruno Sigrist (aka Daniel) watched the remake trailer. I'd also watch his reaction to the first episode, but the problem is that there're no subtitles; b) in 2015 and 2020 (online, respectively), Bruno and Mariana (Julie) had reunions on YouTube. I absolutely don’t understand their language, but shipper feels the content on an international level... Okay, these are all the people from the comments, they ship them too.

Thirdly, the two castes know each other personally, and that's nice.

But I'm still not going to watch the remake. Why? The difference is in the details. If you look at the main actors, some questions arise. Everything is too much in Netflix... smooth. Yes, these are still the words of a kdrama fan, but listen to the rest. When I look at Daniel, Felix and Martim, I believe they could have been a band sometime in the eighties. I believe that Felix, being a drummer, was always careful, and Martim (bassist), on the contrary, flirted with everyone... There was a headcanon that he was once interested in Julie, but quickly backed off out of respect for Daniel. I believe that Daniel was an ideological inspirer during his lifetime, who sought to promote their music. He sees Julie as the same single-minded girl (albeit with a primary stage fright).

Now let's take a look at the facts about the remake. Julie loved to play here before her mother died. She is played by a real sixteen-year-old girl. Her and Luke (alt!Daniel) chemistry is noticeable to everyone at performances.

Now Luke. He's a choleric. A sensitive songwriter, regrets that he never reconciled with his parents, is consistently encouraging and gentle towards his bandmates, and is the character who cries the most on screen. He's responsible for a decent part of the fanservice due to the musculature. A fairly open wardrobe.

Alex. Melancholic. He downplays his achievements compared to the rest of the band, and lacks confidence in unfamiliar situations.

Reggie. The bass player. In general, he is very similar to Martim, there is nothing to add.

From the good news, I note that they decided to write about the guys more. They added problems with their parents (Kenny Ortega brought Disney with him). The latter is a dubious plus, because although it reveals the past, it's a cliche. You may remember Casper or Melchior (Binny und der Geist)... Okay, it's similar to Casper, I'm being picky. But to Melchior's credit, I'll say that the search for the clock and the solution to the messages of his parents is his unfinished business.

And now specifically. They believes that it was a good idea to "skip" the dark part of Daniel's character and leave him Austin Moon at maximum. Why is there such an analogy? Btw, I really love Austin Moon. Austin wears closed clothes for most of the series, undressing either for gags or for beach episodes. Austin is also considered a "golden retriever." And the most obvious thing is that they are both vocalists and guitarists.

Somewhere around here, people may want to say, "But, Lira, we love good boys." They also love love/hate, btw, hello to Dramione. I'm sorry for the possible aggression, I just really don't understand two things.

1) The situation with dislike for Daniel's character makes me pat Bruno Sigrist on the head. The man, by the way, was very optimistic about the remake of the series, where he once starred, and was glad that this idea would be released on Netflix... And here it is, the backlash. You won't be nice by force, but I'm sincerely offended for him. Yes, he doesn't have the most typical beautiful appearance (unlike Charles Gillepsey, who played Luke), although I like it, but he has amazing charisma and a pleasant voice. In addition, it seems to refer to the situation with the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. Some seriously skip the first one in favor of a more comely and younger Tennant. I categorically condemn it.

2) Is it Julie and Daniel love/hate? Seriously? Yes, they have a primary natural rivalry for the position of leader, but it's never hatred. If Daniel had really hated Julie at least at first, he wouldn't have spied on Nick for the sake of returning the girl to the group and, moreover, lying so as not to hurt her feelings. Yes, he fidgets and often responds with sarcasm, but Julie isn't far behind. Moreover, the transition to the gentle side doesn't look abrupt — you believe in it.

Dramas with families. Well, I have nothing to hide here. It's a good background. Except that for some reason it's believed that adding the death of Julie's mother takes the series away from the "typical teen drama." No, it adds an extra resemblance to Casper. And no matter how much I love the appearance of Casper the human (Devon Sawa, my respects), this similarity doesn't make it better.

Thank you for answering, I really appreciate it <3 I remember when people were speaking up about these issues a few years ago and many people in the phandom either shut them down or ignored them, and while I’m sure there’s still a lot of that going on even now, I’m really glad that we’ve reached a far more open and understanding point where it’s okay to talk about this stuff now. You and blogs like yours are doing a really good job putting yourselves out there, and we really are striving for a more inclusive community, because we all deserve it!!

Per the subtitle thing, I did some more research and went back to their recent videos, and it seems that while the majority of them do have proper subtitles, I think DnP don’t tend to upload their videos with proper subtitles on them at first, and instead do the subs afterwards and then add them when they’re finished, because the most recent video still has auto-generated subs on it.

While I am thankful that they do put on proper subs, since far too many YouTubers (some even bigger than them) don’t even bother, I believe they should make sure that the subs are there when they upload their videos; since I usually wait a few days to watch new videos, I didn’t notice the time-gap between auto-generated and proper subtitles, so that was my mistake! I appreciate their captioning, but D/deaf people, HoH people and people with sensory processing issues shouldn’t have to wait for accessibility, so I do think they have the capacity to do better in that regards. I’m not an expert on how captioning works on YouTube, so I don’t know how long it takes for captions to be made, but overall I think there’s definitely room for improvement.

That’s my opinion, though, as someone who uses subtitles, but obviously someone else may see this completely differently!

Absolutely! People should be able to enjoy an upload right then! I imagine it’s disheartening that someone would have to wait for a subtitle to be in a video while others have already watched and geeked about the whole thing. That must have made people feel excluded from this community in some way. I hope they’ll hire professionals for subtitles in the future, or find other ways to make people able to enjoy an upload right then! (It’s still very nice of them to use subtitles in their video early on tho. I think it’s something that people can overlook so easily, I’m glad this is not what they do :) )

Also, if anyone wants to share their pov about this, I would love to hear them. The more pov, the better!

I'm really enjoying "Bell Ringing" so far.

The episodes are 20-25 mins long (not counting OP/ED), and they're written and strung together very nicely, so you don't have that choppiness and plot shallowness that you sometimes get with mini dramas. In this sense, it reminds me of another MangoTV mini that I watched and really enjoyed: "A Familiar Stranger," though the eps there were half as long.

The subtitles are very good. I know this is a common complaint about Mango dramas (I myself have dropped some of theirs because of this), but this problem is just not there this time. They've done a very good job. Sometimes, you get a word that doesn't seem to fit, but it doesn't affect comprehension, and it's fixed by the next day (I see the same with Youku dramas). I watch on Mango's website, but I was just now re-checking some scenes on the uploads on their YouTube channel and that's where I noticed the corrections. I haven't gone back to see if they did the same to the site subs. Note: the YT eps do have that thing networks do that make it occasionally go silent for a few minutes (the subtitles do continue, though, so you don't really miss out).

The modern timeline is the main plot, while scenes from ancient times are woven in as flashbacks, and we learn more about what happened back then as the episodes progress.

Visuals-wise, it is very pretty. From my limited experience with Mango dramas, they do seem to know how to do post-processing for aesthetic ambiance well. Also, if you're like me and enjoy flower shots, there are lots of them here! (Real flowers! Not plastic ones! XD) The story takes place in a rural island and Shen Qi (played by Song Fangyuan) is a flower seller. There are literally bouquets and flower pots everywhere, as well as pretty leafy plants and cute mushrooms.

I think you and 🍰 have mentioned it before, but I’d love to hear your thoughts about the way the musical portrays L. The concept album was my introduction to Death Note as well, but I feel like the L in the songs is a much more dramatic take on L? Which, y’know, makes sense, since it’s ✨musical theatre✨ and all. Like, “The Game Begins” is SO fun, but we’d never get a monologue like it from L in the manga or anime. Idk, the musical paints a bit of a different image of L to me. Not a bad one at all, just a different one.

GOOOOOD musical L when I first watched the musical I wanted to pick him up take him out of the screen and squeeze him like a stress ball. honestly I loved (love?) him maybe even more than anime L dhdhhdh

I'll put a break in here because I think I'm gonna say a lot

like. he did so many things like anime L (I've never read the manga so I see that L as "base" L) but also I feel had his own quirks. like how he hopped onto chairs (Teen Angst L did this too but because it was screen not stage it felt different. I've done stage acting before so maybe it's just me but screen doesn't feel as close, I just loooove stage acting, UGH. This was also why it was more dramatic in some places, you have to act for the whole audience but, I'm assuming you didn't see it live, WAIT have you even watched the recorded version?? It's on YouTube it's sooo good the subtitles are great too, you can sing along to the songs. it's in Japanese tho. Anyway my point was going to be, because you're acting for people really far away, your movements will be big and dramatic and you'll notice this if it's recorded up close).

HIS VOICE WAS SO NICE TOO like damn this is a fine ass man. His songs, I agree looking back at them they aren't all things anime L would say, especially not unprompted. But I don't think that it was so far out of character that it was unbelievable, you know? I actually think that though yes, the Game Begins was dramatic, that was just the song and not the tone of it, if that makes sense. I'd say songs like Playing His Game and (I can't remember the name but the one LawLight duet they sing at the college? not the tennis one. UGH I know the Japanese...) Anyway, I'd say those songs are more ooc. Cause I think L sees all of his cases as a game, his job as a game. Like yes he cares about human life but he also only takes on interesting cases. I've heard this is more like his manga version, which is kinda cool that this "headcanon" of mine is "canon."

AHAHA anyway the point I was actually going to make with that paragraph was: in the final song (a little ooc but in some lines very in character) L holds this one "O" note that makes me go WEAK IN THE KNEES and of course Light is singing over it at the same time, sobs. This is in the Japanese version. I prefer that version overall, but I like some of the English songs too, like Playing His Game and Requiem. So if you haven't listened to it YOU SHOULD!! It's on YouTube music, you can search up english song name + death note musical. A lot of them are by "LyricNear" I think. and you can ofc watch the full musical. but aaaa the final song breaks my heart but I have to listen to that goddamn note... you guys... you don't understand.

Uh, the musical did of course take some creative liberties. There was no Matsuda which I will always bring up because it is a crime, MUSICAL REMISA WAS THE BEST, the limited runtime cut plots and explanations (I kind of appreciated the ending, though I cried because I was hoping it would end differently), and I don't think they had a Watari. Actually thinking about that, that's probably the most ooc L thing in the whole movie: being able to take care of himself. (well presumably to some degree considering he's still alive at the start)

But yeah... I love musical L... I don't mind when he's ooc because it only disrupts soft headcanons of mine, not hard ones. I also haven't watched it for a while so I may be misremembering some things, but still. Gosh I really want to hug him... his clothes look so soft.... maybe I'll just steal his voice box/j

Synopsis: A summary episode - reliving moments from the past 50 episodes

Production: so...it's exceedingly obvious that they intended this to only be one episode but they spilled it over into the next one. Most of the time that will work but when you're making a big deal about it being the 50th, it doesn't really work. Overall, not the worst execution of a 'clips' ep but i think we'd all agree that we'd rather have original content than watch compiled clips. if I want to watch those moments, I'll go watch the actual eps. It's not that I hate the idea of a bottle show via past content but this one just wasn't executed well. It's really nice to see the ceramics complete from a few episodes before.

Here's a weird editing note: pointing out the prod team didn't know the members were hungry and surprised they were eating. I get that sometimes the food is for show (especially on their livestreams) but why did they feel the need to state it in the subs? It just makes the guys and the prod team look ill-prepared.

Another thing, i know most probably won't notice but when they do cut to clips, it's like they've ripped them straight from the internet instead of the original files. The audio is SO disjointed. To do this properly, they should have grabbed the clips without the music and added new music in the compilation. Also the part where they watch their own clips is too long. Don't get me wrong, i actually enjoy watching BTS react to their own content but that's in the context of a reaction livestream or a Bomb, not as an episode of a variety show. A little hint of it would have been sufficient but it does nothing for the pacing of this episode. Final also, is it just me or is there something off about the translation? The quality just seems more lacking than we're used to.

Endearment: Uh, if my above notes didn't give it away, i think this episode does absolutely nothing for the guys. it's vaguely interesting to me to see what moments they remember from past episodes before the clips are played but I wouldn't call it endearing at all. They're put in this hard spot where they know that the audience is infinitely more knowledgeable about their content than they are but they still have to put on this show. oh, it was nice to hear them talk about what they'd like to do for the future, knowing which actually become episodes
