I couldn’t get @thicctails’s Mythology Falls Dipper design out of my head, so I had to make something for it. (Tw for animal death (a mouse is being eaten by an owl))

Fun fact! In order for owls to be as silent flyers as they are, they had to lose the waterproof oil coating on their feathers, which makes them unable to fly when wet.

Mabel’s seal form looks a bit different than the (harbor) seal photos next to it, and that’s because I only found those pictures AFTER finishing the art. Before that I had just looked up “seal photos” and used the wrong species as a reference, even though I did the markings (almost) accurate.

But yeah, I’ve been thinking about what I’d be if I were in Faas and Enya’s universe and I thought I’d be a changeling as well for a while for many reasons, but upon further consideration I think I was wrong. So here’s the first concept art for a my avian persona.

As for the songs (which was one of the main influences on why I started thinking about avians because I realized that over the last six months the majority of songs I’ve been obsessed with have bird centric undertones at the very least) you can find them here

i like that because xelqua has been a watcher longer he has dark wings instead of white because of what you mencioned of new wachers having diferent colored wings

yeah he’s more animalistic, covered in feathers, a forward neck…

I know I said Watchers have different colour wings, but I feel like backtracking that ….!!! I think they should all just have dark feathers, Watchers evolved to hide within the void and avoid players, yknow ? So…. Dark feathers…. (So I’ll be changing Flora, but she still wears white clothes, I like her being opposite of Aether..!)

I think all their wings are white when they first grow out and then darken with age. Despite Grian’s efforts, he has baby Watcher wings.

though I was also playing with the idea that in s8, the Boatem hole makes him go crazy a little bit, hearing the void, the watcher echos, and he grows dark feathers. (Watcher Enchantment is what encourages players to grow and change into them)

See, I still like Kirby! Was tempted to draw Calamus and Bandee with Calamus in a bandana… but I’m still a bit unsure about drawing Calamus… Also, the struggle was real drawing the top-left one. I kept getting little things wrong… but it came out alright in the end. I do think it does look a wee off, but I can still look at it and say “Yeah that’s Alula and not some strange imposter” so I win.

Does this count for the August project? I’m kinda pissed at myself for getting these projects out only a few days late… but it’s done. I think the coloring and line art jobs are good! But my main concern is drawing her from any other perspective besides front. I don’t think I get that yet. But I’m willing to bet the more I do it, I’ll get better. OneShot is so great, and I want to draw so much fan art. Could this have been the spark? The guiding light to me getting out of artist’s block?

Also, Blue and Orange are the supreme complementary color combo.

Can I talk about something for a second?

I don’t get bird people anatomy. So… are they wearing a sweater, or a vest? Do they have arm feathers, or no? Also, the eyes on the top on their head (the bird ones) emote with their regular eyes. So… do they have four eyes? Or is their hair a separate being?

Y’know what? It doesn’t matter.

But it matters to me.

Because in the top-left image, Alula is wearing Aqua’s coat, not her sweater/vest. So…

Never mind. It’s fine.
