Everybody give it up for more cleaned up sketches!! This time it's characters that I have simply been thinking about recently that are not the main gang, yes I did get distracted while cleaning up my Shaphne sketches, yes this is the result now I must return to the caves to finish them.

I have always loved Molly Knox Ostertag's work, in particular the really cute, heartwarming tact of the Witch Boy trilogy's trans allegory and the way it feels so well built to walk that fine line of appropriately nuanced but still perfectly digestible for its intended teen audience.

Well The Deep Dark is more of precisely that style of writing and it blows me away just as much now as Witch Boy did the first time I read it. It's exactly the kind of book I wish I'd had as a kid, and the sort of thing that lights a little hopeful flame in the jaded dark corners of my heart. It's the sort of thing that helps me feel optimistic about a generation of kids who will grow up with this kind of story as their formative personal mythos.

I know I don't usually do reviews or recommendation on this blog so I dunno who this is for really, and it certainly won't have any particular reach, but if you find yourself with the chance to, I really can't recommend The Deep Dark enough. And of course everything else Molly Knox Ostertag has had a hand in, even the one's she's not been the sole author on.

I just think I’d be funnier if this was the B plot of a DP fic

Maddie is called away for the week, leaving just Jack, Jazz and Danny at home to fend for themselves.  Of course they get into hi jinx with Jack occasionally needing to call Maddie for advice on what he should do when problems with Danny arise.

I want THAT to be the A plot of the story. The B plot that we occasionally cut to is Maddie’s adventure.

Y’see Maddie got a phone call from a childhood friend one day out of the blue.  He said “IT’s back”.  Cut to Maddie explaining to Jack that she’s got to get back to her childhood town of Derry Maine because she made a pact with all of her friends decades ago to re-kill a supernatural child killing clown monster if it ever returned, and well you just can’t brake a promise like that.

“Say no more Mads. I understand completely.” Jack responds after his wife’s brief sum up of the situation.

Throughout the story we cut to scenes from IT with Maddie there being extremely casual on this quest to kill this horrifying monster.

*Maddie kneeling over the final remnants of the clown as her cell phone rings

Maddie answering the call: “Oh, hi sweetie!”

*Monster lets out his final growls in one last bid to scare her.

Maddie backhands IT: “I’m on the phone.”

Returns to call: sorry bout that hon, I’m just wrapping things up here, tell me how’re things with you and Danny?”

i just wanted to talk into a void idk it made me cringe trying 2 write a whole letter to my past self or trying to figure out if i should reach out to someone blah blah. it's easier to put it in a post bc it's way less pressure

tbh just like finally processing emotions that ive been hoarding for more than half my life and im sure it'll be worth it. i think im ready to like grow out of relying on solely on various forms of escapism to get through and focus more on filling my life with the things that make life beautiful

I've had to read a lot of YA for my book club and wow going back to it the genre just really hates women huh

This is just a theory but like, since we know now Leelathae's reaction to Gwen's birth. What if the reason why she requested Jack to keep the girls hidden away in the castle is to protect their relationship especially Gwen.

She knows how others will react to seeing Gwen. She went through it. So as much as possible, she wanted to shelter Gwen in a loving family where they truly believe in their hearts about their beauty and love and believe in themselves. She suffered so much discrimination so she didn't want Gwen to grow up hating herself. And when time comes that Gwen will doubt herself, Leelathae could be there and comfort her. Because as much as Gwen's birth made her realize the meaning of her beauty, she wanted to do the same to Gwen.

I mean, Gwen has come to realize that she really does look different from others. Sure, she met CPC, but most of them were normal people until they were cursed. (Thermidora is a lobster so.) So who else can truly convince Gwen? Herself, who is her true love, and her mother, a splitting image of her. The very person who went through the same discrimination as her. Someone who was loved by Jack and continues to be loved by him.

She wanted Gwen to be in a loving environment, until she has to be exposed to society, and at that point, Leelathae, as her mother, will be the one to support her.

This has actually been a super useful exercise, because the faces I draw for adults tend to be “squished”, so comparing how SHE would look as an adult vs a young teen/older teen is super helpful

When a group of schoolchildren showed their appreciation for the series, they were given publicity and a »Moomin Club« was established. The children received merchandise in the form of ties, and the club was introduced in The Evening News.

The little fat one third from the left is, as I understand, known as MOOMIN. All the other boys have various MOOMIN names.« It also described how they intended to work with the Moomin Club: »We have started to get under way our Moomin pressure and you will see from the enclosed Evening News cuttings how we are asking readers to supply a name for their character. A prize will be given to the winner who will be known as the Number One Member of the Evening News MOOMIN CLUB. Others will win prizes of ties, and then when readers begin to write asking how they can join the Club and where they can obtain their ties, we hope to see our Club blossom into a big growth.«
