The final dismissal bell rings, signaling the start of winter break for kids and teachers alike. All your students were frantically packing away all of their winter art projects and homework so that they could officially spend the next week awaiting Santa Claus or at least to spend time at home with their families.

“Alright kiddos! Have a happy holidays and I’ll see everyone when we get back from winter break. Stay warm!” You waved them all out of the classroom as you picked up your own bags to lock up your classroom for the next two weeks. 

Once you picked up all your belongings, you followed after the stragglers to redirect them to the car pick up line. It was your last carline duty and at least you got to say goodbye to all your students and their parents. Even though the winter weather was nipping at your nose, the thought of a relaxing holiday break with your fiancé, Bucky, and your cat, Alpine, kept you warm. 

“Goodbye! Goodbye!” You waved to each car as they drove off onto the snowy Brooklyn street. There were only a handful of children and vehicles left, and as the kids climbed into their parent’s car, you saw a familiar black SUV pull into the pick up line.

“It looks like Prince Charming has pulled up to whisk you away from the cold,” A colleague of yours teased. You giggled as you could see him and Alpine through the windshield of your shared vehicle. 

Once Bucky had pulled up close enough, you climbed into your carriage to be whisked away as your peers waved goodbye. As you settled in your seat and removed extra winter wear, Alpine climbed comfortably into your lap to welcome you. 

“Thanks for picking me up, Buck! I know its not ideal, but I don’t trust anything when it’s snowing this hard.”

“It’s no problem, love,” He chuckled, placing his righthand on your thigh, “I don’t think that its snowed like this or has been this cold since I was a kid.”

“Well that was a hundred years ago, give or take,” You teased him.

“Y’know,” he simply responded, before moving on, “I’m surprised your face didn’t flush or that you don’t have goose bumps! It’s well below freezing!”

“Well, I’ve got a secret weapon that keeps me from freeing solid.”

Bucky turned into the driveway of your apartment complex just outside the building and parked the SUV, “And what would that secret weapon be?”

“I’ve got my love to keep me warm,” you winked at him and pressed a kiss to Alpine’s little head. You earned a meow and another warm chuckle in response.

“Get upstairs, you cheesy goof! I’ve got hot chocolate and my favorite holiday movie waiting for us.”

“Bucky, Die Hard isn’t a holiday movie - you are the only person who thinks that it is,” he rolled his eyes, and Alpine purred against the warmth of your chest, “Even the cat agrees.”

“Sure, because the cat knows so much about movies,” His nose scrunched as the two of you stepped into the elevator. As the doors closed, Bucky pressed a kiss to the temple of your head, “I’m just glad I get to have you all to myself for two weeks.”

He figures it out enough to have fun eventually

Thargelion was the realm of Caranthir, located in the north east of Beleriand just north of Ossiriand and bordered by the Ered Luin, the eastern stretch of mountains that divided Beleriand from the rest of Middle Earth

World building notes

-Like most of the Noldor in Eastern Beleriand, many of Caranthir’s scouts keep birds of prey. In Thargelion these are primarily peregrine falcons and kestrels. Hunting with birds was less common however.

--There are populations of Green Elves who live in Thargelion, primarily in the mountains and near the border of Ossiriand. Though they also do not use birds for hunting, certain species are kept as companions or messengers.

-Chicken breeding as an art and science developed during the Watchful Peace. Chickens in Thargelion are appraised for long plumage and colorful feathers. Their eggs are eaten but they are not often used for meat.

-Chickens, peacocks and quails were kept by the Noldor of Thargelion, techniques of raising and breeding them were learned from Sindar and Silvan cultures of Eastern Beleriand. Indeed the Noldor of Thargelion were one of the only Noldor populations to keep quails.

-Bearded vultures appear on the crests of some of Caranthir’s lords and were even kept by a few of them

-Feathers of various mountain birds especially eagles and ouzel appear in wood carvings as an architectural motif during the Watchful Peace in Thargelion

-Out of all the Fëanorian realms, water birds appear most often in art and other cultural references in Thargelion as Lake Helevorn and its wildlife are a central facet of life there especially in times of peace. Wading birds like crakes, cranes and stilts are especially Valued.

Frau Perchta

Etymologically, her name means 'bright one'. Or, perhaps, instead it means 'hidden or covered'. Both suit her, this winter figure of myth and folklore, haunting the shadows and stories in the twelve days between Christmas and Epiphany.

Recently, there's been an upsurge in interest about beings like Krampus and the Mari Lwyd, figures that had, until recently for many of us, disappeared into Santa's shadow over the generations. So, given the time of year we're in, I thought I'd shine a bit of light on some of these older stories of yesteryear.

Perchta, or Berchta, is a female figure that haunted the Alpine regions of Europe. She has been likened to Frigg or Holda, possibly stemming from the same Ur archetype and, like them, has mutated and grown cloudy from her origins over time as Christianity and changing cultures adapted her. Perchta, according to, yes that Jacob Grimm, was both the guardian of animals and the overseer of domestic spinning.

Yeah, I don't equate the two either, which is what I meant by 'things get cloudy' the further away from whatever her original, unknown idea might have been.

Anyway, Perchta was a winter creature of myth and so, like so many of them, had a dual nature. She could take the form of a beautiful woman, tall, elegantly robed and as white as the snow - or she could take the form of a doubled over, withered hag, with darkly twinkling eyes, dressed in rags, sometimes even going so far as to have an iron nose. And, like her two forms, Perchta could either be generous or viscous, depending on what she found when she visited houses during the traditional time between Christ's birth and the visit of the Magi. Her day was the Feast of Epiphany, hence the shining or brightness associated with both her name and the star of Bethlehem that guided the Magi.

Perchta was, in some forms, a goddess of the household, a visiting deity checking to make sure the people were living up to societal standards. If, when she visited in the night, Perchta found a clean house and all the season's flax or wool already spun into thread and ready for the loom that would go up Epiphany day, she would leave silver behind, in shoes or buckets, as a reward for hard work. If however she found the women of the household with still unspun thread or a messy house, she would earn her nickname 'the Belly-Slitter' by taking her long knife, slicing the offenders' stomachs open and removing all their organs, replacing them with straw, garbage and rocks.

Remember, kids, don't leave dirty dishes in the sink between Christmas and January 6th.

Speaking of kids, like Krampus, Perchta could tell when children had been bad and seemed to have a particular penchant for lying ones. They too would end up stuffed with farmyard detritus.

In the duality of her nature however, Perchta was also said to be the guardian of the souls of children that had died before they'd been baptized, keeping them close to her and comforted.

She also, apparently, took them with her when she led the Wild Hunt, another pastime she was known to have. The crashing sounds of thunder in the mountains and the wild storms heard late at night, especially if they occurred on the Berchtl or Knocking nights, the three Thursdays between Christmas and Epiphany? That was Perchta and her followers, known as the Perchten, riding wild across the sky.

In hag or maiden form, there was one way to spot Perchta for sure. One of her feet was wide-spread and flat, either because it was the foot of a swan (or goose) signifying her ability to shapeshift as well as her role as animal guardian or else because it was a treadle foot, grown so large and flat thanks to all her time spent at the spinning wheel.

If you wanted to appease Perchta, beyond finishing your spinning in a timely manner and keeping your house, and children, clean, you left out a bowl of porridge made with fish, on the Twelfth Night for her and her followers. If she liked your cooking, you had an upcoming year of prosperity ahead of you.

In fact, in certain towns in Austria, you can find Perchta masks in use during winter festivities today. These masks, often made of wood, come in two varieties. The Schönperchten, the 'beautiful Perchten' masks are supposed to call in financial prosperity and the Schiachperchten, the 'ugly Perchten' masks, are to drive away evil spirits.

Santa, and Krampus, may have Christmas day, but the twelve that come after it belong to Perchta.

On a possibly unrelated but still very interesting to me note, there's apparently a video game called Hunt: Showdown that features a Frau Perchta. tw: for video game blood and violence

Something that absolutely nobody asked for, but shall receive anyways; Phighters as birds! List is under the cut due to it just being a wall of text, some having explanations provided with my selections. Trust me, there is a LOT of reading; I babble a lot. You've been warned.

Sword as the Passenger Pigeon

I always have Sword's species listed as something that's either extinct or originating from mythology (for example, I have his demon species paired with a Kitsune.) I also just think a pigeon of some sorts is rather befitting for him.

Biografts as Canadian geese

Known as one of the most aggressive geese; they are considered invasive in some areas. I also just found it silly. Prone to changing into a different goose, the spur-winged goose. I haven't fully decided yet.

Skateboard as the Red-breasted (or Rufous-Chested) Swallow

This one is mostly based on it's appearance, however it's swiftness plays into this selection as well, due to their speed being quite well-known amongst this species.

Katana as the Great Horned Owl

Adaptable, silent, and skilled at hunting, I believed that this was a near-perfect fit! That, alongside the fact that it's an owl, the bird that (if I recall correctly) Katana's face mask is based off of. I don't know, I just thought most of the physical characteristics were rather befitting for him.

Banhammer as the Black-chested Buzzard Eagle

Honestly I don't know. I think this one was solely based on appearance. I tragically struggle on finding good facts on these birds. I'm pretty sure they drop their prey in order to incapacitate them though which I find funny for him. I could be wrong abt this fact though ^_^"

Rocket as the Great Eared Nightjar

Honestly I forgot why I chose this for Rocket. I'm pretty sure a friend recommended it and i was just like . "ok"

Slingshot as the Alpine swift

Quick and social! However mostly sticks to the same explanation as the one above. Sorry chat :(

Hyperlaser as the Rough-legged Hawk

A friend talked me into changing Hyperlaser into this one. He gave me the reasons of, and I quote; "good vision, fast as fuck, and people put helmets on them" which i think he was referring to those funny hood things they put on hawks sometimes. Aweosme reasons honestly

Shuriken as the Seagull

Annoying little thief. I don't know why but I could only think of him as a seabird. Maybe it's because of Shurifin. Shrugs my litle shoulders

Medkit as the Chinese Pond Heron (heavily inspired by Caladrius)

Discussed this one with friends, too; we settled on this funny bird because we struggled on agreeing on something for like. thirty minutes. But once I brought this heron up we all jsut kind of like. nodded together in agreement i think. Silly stuff

Boombox as the Violet-green Swallow

Mainly for the colors, but they can also symbolize "good luck or positive change", which I find charming for Boombox and his unending optimism. He lifts the spirits of others! :]

Subspace as the Hooded Pitohui

POISONOUS CORVID POISONOUS CORVID!! It was too perfect. That, and the appearance?? MWA this is THE Subspace bird.

Vinestaff as the Fairy Prion Bird

I wanted to keep her relatively the same as her sibling Shuriken, so she gets to be a seabird, too. Couldn't find many facts on this one, too :( I have a cool design in mind but that will most likely Never actually Get Drawn Out. Same goes for all of these dudes sorry gamers .

PoliZ's Stuffed Marvels - Non-Human Characters

As a lead up to this year's @marveltrumpshate auction, I'm posting photos of my existing Stuffed Marvels designs, grouped by character/other theme and using the hashtag #Stuffed Marvels. These are hand-sewn soft stuffed figures, roughly 8-10 inches/20-25 cm tall (or long), basically two-dimensional, but finished on both sides. They are made of fleece and felt with embroidered elements and embellishments (ribbon, etc.).

Below the cut you'll find photos of my designs for Rocket Raccoon, Baby Groot, Miss Minutes, Lokigator and Jeff the Land Shark, along with Goose the Cat and Alpine. I've also made a Venom scarf.

If you see any figures you like, would like to tweak an existing design or these spark an idea for a new figure, keep that in mind once the auction opens!

Post credit scene of Thunderbolts is Bucky trying to return Alpine to Carol and Kamala bc Kamala lied about her being a normal cat lmao. I mean listen he can't have a cat eating random people, he's dealing with enough guilt about everything tws did.

And then Alpine spits out Sentry and Carol and Kamala defeat Sentry in 5 seconds after the Thunderbolts struggled the whole movie. And they're like......well typical day lol.

Flerkitten!Alpine AU

I originally posted this and the regular Flerken!Alpine picture on my Marvel blog @buckys-metal-arm, but now that I have a blog specifically for my Bucky/Juniper stuff I decided to delete that post and turn it into 2 separate posts, the clean picture without Alpine's parents can be found here!

So the in my "canon" world for Bucky and Juniper, Alpine is the daughter of Fennel and Barley, a pair of street cats. Fennel gives birth to her but ultimately she and Barley end up giving her to Bucky and Bucky after a somewhat complicated series events in which Bucky and them end up hanging out with 2 teenage Inhumans who go by the Codenames Flora and Fauna and it's a whole thing, but anyways Fennel and Barley helped in this because Fauna's power is talking to animals and Juniper is a Shapeshifter who's able to converse with the two of them when they're shifted into said animal. The two cats decide they don't want their daughter to have to live on the streets, so they give her to Bucky and co. And is actually raised by Skye, the partner of Juniper's wolfdog Fenrir who just had his puppies (also a whole thing don't worry about it), and Alpine lives a relatively normal life as their (but mainly Bucky's, he's by far her favorite) pet cat.

But I made a kinda... AU I guess for my own world? And made Barley one of Goose's Flerkittens but grown up (in my world I made it so Flerkens can reproduce asexually or with a mate, like most snail species. So like Goose reproduced asexually, and Barley had them the old fashioned way. Alpine was a live birth because it's a Male Flerken with a female cat) who wasn't adopted/found/taken in by SABER/whatever happened to the Flerkittens post-The Marvels. Barley isn't known to be a Flerken by Fennel or any of the Humans/Inhumans he interacts with out of fear of being ostracized by the few allies he and his mate have on the street, or being taken away for experimenting/kidnapped by bad humans. Alpine actually lives a pretty normal life until one day she goes through essentially Half-Flerken Puberty and accidentally noms someone idk i havent ironed out all the kinks yet but yeah

- Kilian Macleod. For a bitch that died 2005 in a car crash, this man gets a lot of mileage in certain AUs and the main story backstory. The worst MacLeod of them all, with the biggest heart and no one to love, because everyone keeps walking. I love my grumpy Rotten Prod Derryman <3 Mischievious bugger.

- Désirée Dupont. One simply has to admire her commitment to the bit. Yes I am a woman, no I don't think I'll go on HRT or get surgery, yes I will talk about gutting fish at the dinner table, yes that is my clown costume, yes I think life is more fun the more curiosity one has. Would you like to hear my beautiful singing voice, immediately followed by the worst alpine horn solo ever heard. Don't be sad, we'll go fishing.

- Paddy O'Neill. Deepest Sigh known to mankind. You can fit so much trauma into this badboy. Old man by virtue of surviving everyone else in his life. Chockful of ghosts and love and also metric tons of boxtys and rashers.

- Fabio Bellini. Born to be a catlover, forced to be babysitter to the world's most explosive kindergarten. Keeper of the braincell in Team Italy most of the time, bc he doesn't like what it does rattling around in Francesco's skull. Easily wins most devoted boyfriend award. Would be the perfect human being if not for the fact of being Milanese.

- Eliza Jones. 50% of the batshit quota at the English office. Still torn between whether she should be a Geordie or a Yorkshire girl, bc someone with her unhinged chaos energy and Maisie Adam's voice would be quite funny, but Lauren Pattinson's accent saying the same deranged shit would also be hilarious. Woman not only thinks she could fight a goose and win, but also literally said "Just because we kidnap someone doesn't mean we can't care about them". Work Description: PET STAMPS Custom stamps with animal characters from any marvel canon, fanon or au! Not limited to characters offered in the tags. Did you write Lucky a new dog friend, or a hamster friend, or a frog friend? This is your time to get stamps with both of them! The maximum stamp size is 2,5x5 cm or in inches, 1x2. Work Description: PENCIL DRAWING OF WOMEN BEING HAPPY Or one woman, for a starting bid. For donation of $50 or more I will draw up to 3 characters. For donation over $100 I can draw a short 1 page (max 6 panels) comic. In case the winner would like a comic, I will ask them to provide a script/detailed idea for the story. I will not make a comic without it. There is no limit if the art is a bust portrait or fullbody. I will draw any female characters you want, including alernate universe versions of canon characters, OCs and characters from non-marvel fandoms (as long as the last two interact with canon character so it's still elligable for the auction). I’ve finished my series of birds of the Fëanorian realms so I’m doing the Nolofinwëan ones now! As always I include some world building about birds at the end so it’s not just a list of species:)

Hithlum (Sindarin: Mist Shadow) is a land North of greater Beleriand. The Southern and Eastern borders were lined by the Ered Wethrin or Mountains of Shadow which were near impossible to cross and the Northwest border was lined by the Ered Lómin or Echoing Mountains. The fortress of Fingolfin and Fingon after him was located in the Ered Wethrin, at the source of the river Sirion. It was called Barad Eithel

Notes: these are species rather than genuses or more general categories however within these species there are likely subspecies not listed as well as specimens not identified in the real world

Lake Mithrim and the connected rivers: grey herons, tufted duck, steller’s eider, goldeneye, bimaculate duck, garganey, snow crane, greylag goose, mute swan, common pochard, common white eye, common teal, northern pintail

Eithel Sirion and the mountains: booted eagle, alpine swift, alpine chough, bearded vulture, golden eagle (rare), alpine accenter, rock ptarmigan, common wallcreeper, red billed chough, water pipit, common redstart, crestless hawk eagle

Greater Hithlum hills and forests : golden plover, black stork, corn bunting, common siskin, white stork, marsh harrier, hen harrier, pallid harrier, saker falcon, greater painted snipe, great bittern, white backed woodpecker, thrushes, marsh wren, river warbler, snowy owls, common raven, black grouse, eagle owl, lesser spotted eagle

World building notes:

Within Barad Eithel, there is a mural of the Crissaegrim where rests the roosts of Thorondor and his kin. The mural was done in tribute to the Eagle king and neither the painters nor Fingolfin knew that the mountain eyries depicted looked over the hidden city of Turgon

The Noldor and Northern Sindar of Mithrim both eat meat though the Noldor more commonly. Water birds from Lake Mithrim are caught and eaten on feasts and celebratory occasions only.

Harriers and saker falcons are held by some of Barad Eithel’s nobles as companions, messengers and hunters. Pallid harriers appear on the crest of the house of one of Fingolfin’s advisers.

Wallcreepers, which live throughout the Ered Wethrin and connected mountain ranges, such as the Ered Lómin and the mountains of Mithrim. They’re an uncommonly docile species for songbirds and are sometimes befriended by members of the Northern Sindar. They’re sometimes depicted to represent mountain life more generally in the art and poetry of the Sindar of Mithrim.

I do bad in these situations because I can never think of what to say so it usually ends up in incoherent rambles or like three useless sentences.

But uh… using the general theme of: homosexuality, as of Mcu. Because I’m brainrotting on the mcu atm lmao

Bucky barnes is gay in my mcu rewrite because I can. Alpine is the only woman he needs in his life. He does make some room for Sharon, Nat and Wanda though because Sharon’s his friend’s niece, Nat is his lesbian counterpart and Wanda is sad. Sarah is on thin ice, but he’s warming up to her because she lets him sleep on her couch.

Also, Wendy Lawson/Mar-Vell? Dude. And not dead until much later on. I think I’ve mentioned this but it needs to be said. How does this relate to the gays? Theodore Altman.

America is actually an Afro Latina Puerto Rican, as she is in the comics. Because it was a questionable change to make her Mexican and not afrolatina. (No hate to Xochitl, it’s not her fault, it’s the casting directors)

Sam Wilson? Homosexual bird man with a telepathic link to an actual bird. Because I just wanted him to have real wings tbh. They need mechanical enhancements to actually be able to carry his weight because buff=heavy. But they’re real for no reason other than vibes.

Sam and Bucky are married but don’t know it.

Magneto is there and vibing in the background as a prisoner of shield (he relates to this post because he is a bisexual with murderous tendencies)

Steve does drawings sometimes. He’s actually really good at drawing and stuff, he just doesn’t do it often because he’s busy. He draws his work children (the avengers) occasionally and gives it to them at fairly inconvenient times.

Most of the mcu characters are some flavour of queer I’ll just say it. Tony is the token ‘says he’s straight but no one’s sure’.

Maria Hill has tattoo sleeves and some tattoos on her back too. Because tattoos distract her from work.

She’s taken everywhere by Bucky, and is given free reign around every building he’s in because she can open doors anyways so why not. She also rubs up against Goose occasionally because they’re friends in a weird cat way.
