hi so. i know i should probably move past the 13 min mark in the ep but i just need to rant real quick about fucking up in character making a character good while still being flawed. spoilers for mismag s2 ep 2 and ep 3 under the cut

i love. LOVE. that erika fully committed to having k fuck up. he didnt back down when aabria did the 'are you SURE' and they didnt back back down when she said the dc. erika knew the odds were close to none and he STILL went through with it, resulting in the most dramatic and incredible character death and roleplay moments i've ever seen from d20. and what drives me more insane was that it was completely in character for who k is.

k's job as itsy is the guide. their whole thing is helping people new to magic get their foot through the door and work on their magical abilities. and she's GREAT at it. however, it also seems to have put her in the mindset that she can just 'fix' things. even when they arent already broken.

evan was fine. his bone had been healed wrong, sure, but his arm worked. he was fine. he didnt need to be helped in that moment and he never asked for it either. but k saw a poor, scarred man, ('he's so SAD') and decided to help him.

not realizing how royally they were going to fuck it up.

and it's beautiful it drives me CRAZY because it's a perfect encapsulation of how to show a character flaw even as someone 'good-aligned.' k asserted their will over evan and he suffered the consequences. it was, to be blunt, selfish. in their craving to assist, to be helpful, they've done something that's irreversibly changed evan's life. he didn't even know what was coming.

i commend EVERYONE at the table for taking k's mistake and just running with it. i may only be 13 minutes into the episode but the emotional toll is so bad i've had to pause twice and take a break so i dont start weeping.

hot take but I don’t think that lucas or dustin (or anyone, for that matter, other than maybe robin) are going to see what’s going on between mike and will until it happens. they don’t suspect ANYTHING. when they actually get together everyone’s going to be shocked

just read a delightful OT3 story in another fandom involving hot baths and massages, and now I am directly yoinking a bunch of its beats so I can tell myself a bedtime story about Lisa and Kaeya bullying Jean into a hot bath and massages. 10/10, do recommend

#she comes back filthy and exhausted from a big battle #and lisa is like 'you're not getting in my bed in that state'#jean is confused. there was no previous discussion of getting in lisa's bed. this was supposed to be kaeya's date night #and now will inevitably be swallowed up by post-mission reports #(but she and kaeya can sneak in some late-night couch cuddles while reviewing everyone else's reports. so it's fine. really)#at which point lisa informs them both that they are having their date night in her bathroom #look at them. merely stepping into the office would create an hour's worth of work for noelle. add another hour for every item they touch #do they want to do that to noelle? of course not. how COULD they #at which point kaeya is pretty enthusiastically getting with the program. surely they can write their reports at lisa's. once they're clean #waiting to review all the others' reports until tomorrow will give them the chance to clean up first too. great for morale #(and obviously lisa will now be inviting herself along on the bathroom date. it's her tub #jean will just have to endure both of them loving on her at once. how terrible. whatever will she do)#...damnit. logging this for later to see if i can write the bath-and-massages without actually completely ripping off this other writer #anyway #jean has two hands and two aides: coincidence?

How would the Scoundrel react to Miss Emilia Stone, do you think? To give you an idea of who she is, the Threadbare Outrider is one of the alternate identities of Barnabus Moss, and possibly the closest to who he actually is - he's only still an egg because he's too busy with his job to give too much of a shit about being trans right now.

She is functionally the Hyde identity; open revolutionary, Parabolan wanderer, purveyor of extreme and generally unnecessary violence. I also considered naming her the Extremely Unlicensed Silverer - she has never actually fulfilled the requirements to become a proper silverer (she thinks the sunglasses look kind of dumb) but she offers equivalent services for cut-rate prices to people who can't afford a "real professional."

In terms of her actual personality, she is... frighteningly happy. To steal a phrase, she wields her joy like a hammer; judiciously and with great violence. Moss is basically drunk on life whenever he's her, and it very much shows. She is a release valve on all of his life's worries - whenever he gets too pissed off at his life as Moss or Haversham or the spy, he can just duck into Parabola and gut a few chessmen with a meathook to unwind.

Correspondingly, he gets really irritated under the hood when she has to act consistent with the persona rather than how he actually feels - for example, Emilia is the kind of person who doesn't really dislike anyone, so when someone pisses him off she can't really show it without breaking the cheer, and it is thoroughly upsetting to him.

I think original flavour Moss would probably be fascinated by the Scoundrel, from a professional standpoint - he has a degree in the Correspondence and the whole bat thing is very interesting - whilst simultaneously being deeply, deeply exhausted by the man's life choices. Meanwhile I think Emilia would enjoy doing this to him.

Thoughts?

first of all, love the OC dissertation, chewing ur little guy like a gummy bear as we speak

second of all, the scoundrel would probably react the same as they always do- with overwhelmingly smug manners and more than a little bit of "i'm better than you and i'm being generous and indulging you by existing in your presence"... at least at first.

depending on how their interactions go from there, the scoundrel would either be delightfully open to infodumping about the bat thing to the point of tedium, or needlessly spiteful for Literally No Reason aside from a vague sense of pettiness and jealousy. how dare she get to be so damnably happy all the time, how dare she act so damnably carefree about it, etcetera etcetera. whether or not they'd like to admit it, i could see them holding a grudge against emilia purely on the principle of (supposedly) having everything they've ever wanted.

which is to say, they absolutely get scrunched like a cat, and they are biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + biting her + b

#it's a bit like how the scoundrel responded to their TLC #all they've ever wanted was happiness and freedom from their myriad troubles. they kind of cant stand seeing people have that so easily #seeing people have it when they cant #bc why do they get to Simply Achieve It when she's (deluded herself into) giving up everything for it?#why do they get to be fulfilled and whole when her entire life has been marred by an emptiness in her soul??#it's not fair. it's Not Fair.#which of course drives them to sabotage that happiness out of spite. which usually backfires into making themself feel even worse #which drives their jealousy even more...#the scoundrel's mind is an ouroboros consuming itself in a misguided attempt and belief that All Of This will fix her #it will not fix her.#but it's really fun to see her bite her own tail and choke on it #anyway. tldr they'd probably get along with emilia at first but i feel like the irritation would build up a lot over time #and they'd also probably judge her for being bad at silvering #in their eyes at least #they take their job Very Seriously. wym you dont have a license. you are making them specifically look bad #(and everyone else they guess. but mostly them. the making them look bad part is obviously the most important part of this equation)#ask #long post #ty for the oc dissertation + hypothetical interaction it's very fun.. i love putting the scoundrel up against other people's FL guys #especially because so many would grate against him like fucked up gay cheese

As much as I would have loved to see Madge in the films, I do accept why she was cut. Her role in the books was minimal compared to others and since films always have to cut a bit, it didn't bother me as much as some other changes made.

However, I do not like how Katniss got the mockingjay pin. I feel like her originally trying to buy it undermines the kind of person Katniss was and the lifestyle she was forced to live. Book Katniss wouldn't dream of wasting money on such an expensive and random trinket. Even when she treated Prim for her birthday, it was with something that could also be useful (aka, her goat) and the closest she came to wasting money was to buy a ribbon to tie around the goat. That was her idea of splurging for the sake of it: a ribbon. So it really kind of undermines Katniss struggle and the reality of poverty to have her even consider buying it.

Then again, I notice American shows/movies has this problem a lot. How often do we see people who are apparently desperately poor, barely getting buy, yet their house is quite big and full not just of furnture but no end of knick-knacks sat on the side.

#The Hunger Games #Katniss Everdeen #Madge Undersee #It would have worked better if they had Katniss look at the pin #but quickly go to move on and then Greasy Sae insist she have it for free.#Of course even that somewhat undermines the struggles of everyone else.#Like Greasey Sae (along with almost everyone in District 12) were barely getting by #and selling that pin (even for less than it's worth) would have fed them for a while.#They should have just had the pin be an heirloom from Katniss' father that she held on to #or have her find it randomly and decide to keep it.#Or even mention Madge without showing her.
