So I've calmed down. After today's events I find myself even more vindicated in my hatred for my family, but that's neither here nor there. I'm not trying to vent so often on this blog (feels too oversharey), so instead I'll let y'all know that my birthday is in two weeks! Specifically the 24th. So that's cool.
#unma rambles#ignore the tags below I was only going to mention the uni stuff and then things just kinda started rolling out and now it feels like a-#waste to delete them#I'll be heading to uni on the 22nd for orientation on the 23rd though#so that's another year in a row of depressing shit happening around my birthday#at least this time it's something somewhat good (uni) and not my dad shipping me off to a camp I insisted I didn't want to go to#to the point that he forcibly packed my things and made it so I couldn't go back home otherwise that Sunday#which I still haven't forgiven him for#(man every time I think about them I remember something that makes me hate my parents. funny how that works.#It's almost like there's nothing good to remember)#fyi the uni is a christian university that requires attending service for credits which is why I'm not happy#reminder: I'm agnostic but was raised christian in a christian family#and an acquaintance from church is also going to that uni. and attending the same course#which isn't the end of the world but I can't help but feel bummed out#because I just know someone's gonna use her to see how I'm doing since I never answer phone calls#wow I said I wouldn't vent but here I am#tbf my reaction to this is more disappointment and mild annoyance than the depressive spirals I used to deal with#so I guess that means I'm improving#or that it's not big enough of a problem for it to trigger that#oh well#all of this means I'm not exactly looking forward to my birthday but I've never looked forward to one since I was 10#so that's just typical at this point#hm come to think of it the camp thing isn't the only thing that happened near my birthday and resulted in depressive spirals huh#kinda sounds to me like my birthdays have just sucked#at best they were meh and at worst they sucked to the point I look forward to one where nothing happens at this point#that happened once#my birthday had nothing done for it because of reasons (I don't blame my parents for this they had valid reasons to do so)#and I just forgot about it#the tags of my post that was supposed to be about my birthday was not where I expected to unpack my shitty experiences with past birthdays#but here I am I guess

Between Us Pt 5
Summary: You and Spencer had a casual relationship. A misunderstanding ruins it all.
Pairing: Spencer Reid × F. BAU Reader
Warnings: Friends with benefits. Angst. Pregnancy.
See my Masterlist Here
Part 4
“Pregnant? How did this happen? I mean, I know how it happened but - Wow!” He runs over to you, placing one large had on your nonexistent bump. “I can’t believe we are pregnant. How far along are we?” Anger and disbelief surge through you.
“First of all, I am pregnant. Me, not you.” Spencer’s smile drops, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.” You sigh, this was a better reaction than you were expecting. You thought he would freak out. Although, you aren’t sure why. Spencer loves kids. He was never mean to you before. He wasn’t like the guys you normally dated.
“No, I’m sorry. These hormones are ridiculous. I know what you meant. And to answer your other question, the doctor said about six weeks. But, that was over a week ago. I’m probably almost eight weeks now. I have an ultrasound scheduled for the end of the week if you would like to come with me.” He looks hopeful, nodding his head as his smile widens. “Of course I would love to go. This is great. I gotta call my mom. I’ll clean out my spare bedroom so we can turn it into a nursery. I’ll need help moving some of my things into storage so we will have room for your stuff too. Maybe Morgan will help.”
“Wait, my stuff?” You ask, interrupting his rambling. “Yeah, you’ll be bringing your stuff too. You can put what we don’t have room for in storage with my things.” You cross your arms, preparing to argue. “Why would I bring my stuff to your place?” Spencer scrunches up his nose, “Because you’ll be living there?” He looks just as confused as you are.
“I’m not moving in with you, Spencer. Your spare bedroom is too small for me and the baby. There’s not enough room. Plus, you don’t need me there with our baby. That would be so hard to explain when you bring women home.” You mentioned other women because you were fairly certain his relationship with Ashley wouldn’t last. You place your hands on your hips, trying to understand his silly logic.
“I thought you could sleep with me, and the baby would have their own room. Why would I bring women home when I’m dating you?” Your eyes feel like they are going to pop out of your head. “Spencer, we aren’t dating.”
“But, I thought we would be a family now that you’re pregnant.” He explains. “We will be a family, but one that coparents. You’re going to be a great dad, Spence. I would never keep your baby from you. But, this doesn’t change anything between us. You didn’t want me before, and I don’t like that you only want me now because you got me pregnant.”
“But that’s not why I-“ “I don’t want to argue about this. We are really good friends and I would like it to stay that way for the baby.” “Okay.” He agrees, but you can tell you hurt his feelings, so you change the subject to what you will need for the baby.
You make a list, putting double the items down since Spencer will keep them at his apartment too. He’s going to ask for a leave for the first two months after the baby is born so he doesn’t miss anything. He will be staying at your apartment during those months. When he’s comfortable enough to have the baby alone, you will work out a new schedule.
Spencer orders some parenting books for the both of you online. He is so excited. You’re thankful that he’s the father, he’s a great guy. You just wish it could have worked between the two of you. “How are you going to tell Ashley? I don’t think it will go well.” You tell him, scrunching your face up. His face falls, “I forgot about Ashley.”

Guardian Angel Masterlist
“Are you sure you're ready?” Wanda asked cautiously.
The redhead had dropped Billy and Tommy off at school and then came over to the compound to help you get ready for your first day back to work at The Candy Bar.
“Sweetheart, we've talked about this. Helen and Bruce have cleared me: no more walking boot, no more sling. I completed the required month of physical therapy, and I feel good. I’m ready for this,” pulling an outfit out of your closet.
“Ugh…you’re right, you’re right,” flopping down onto the bed and covering her face with her hands.
You crawled onto the bed and lay beside her, still in your pajamas.
“Hey,” moving her hands away from her face. “I’ll be fine. Besides, it’s not like I’m fighting fires or anything. I’m bagging candy and scooping ice cream all day.”
The redhead turned sideways to face you on the bed. “Just promise me you’ll listen to your body. Sit down if you need a break; if there’s something high on a shelf, let Harper get it.”
You cut off her rambling with a gentle peck on the lips.
“What was that for?” Wanda asked.
“It was the only way to get you to stop,” giggling at the redhead.
After a hearty bowl of frosted flakes and a steaming cup of coffee, Wanda drove you to work. You hadn't figured out what to do about a new mode of transportation yet, as your car was totaled in the accident. Honestly, it was the last thing on your mind at this point. All you could do was take your recovery one step at a time, and the next step was to go back to work.
^*~*^
Walking into The Candy Bar after almost three months filled you with excitement and nostalgia. The familiar aroma of sweets filled your senses, and you couldn't help but tear up at the sight. You had kept in touch with Harper, your best friend and business partner, over Zoom and FaceTime, but you had promised yourself that you would return to the store only when you could walk back into it on your own.
“Harper?” you called out.
“Surprise!” Harper shouted.
The lights flipped onto reveal your best friend holding one of your mini ice cream cakes in front of a banner behind the counter that read, Welcome Back, Y/N!
“Aww, this is so sweet, Harper,” walking over to hug her. “You didn’t need to do this.”
“Oh, Please! I don't want to hear another word. This is a triumphant return; of course, we will celebrate,” she said.
“Thank you so much. This means a lot to me.” You were so engrossed in hugging your best friend you almost forgot about the redhead standing beside you. “Oh, Wanda! Where are my manners?! Harper, this is Wanda Maximoff.”
“Hi, wow. Harper Bailey,” shaking Wanda’s hand vigorously. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for, you know, the world,” still shaking her hand.
“You’re welcome,” Wanda giggled and looked over at you.
“Okay, that’s enough, Harper,” you said, separating their hands.
“Right! Um, I’ll go turn the closed sign to open,” she offered.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been here,” Wanda said, taking in the space.
You put on your Candy Bar apron and adjusted your name tag. It felt so lovely to be back in your work attire. You glanced at your watch.
“Sweetheart, don’t you have a meeting with the team at 10:30?”
“Oh, don’t worry about that. They won’t start without me,” she said, dismissing your question.
“Wanda, it's okay. Truly, you don’t need to hang around here all day. I’ll call you on my lunch break. Go, have a good day, and I’ll see you tonight,” you said.
Wanda sighed and walked toward you. “Okay,” placing her hands on your cheeks, “but if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to call me,” ending her speech with a kiss.
“I won’t. Bye, sweetheart,” you replied.
“Bye,” she said.
You watched the redhead leave. Just as you did the first time she walked into your shop. The feeling of Deja vu was mutual, as Wanda glanced back at you with one final wave as she walked out the door.
“Man, do you two got it bad,” Harper said as she joined you at your side.
“Shut up,” blushing at the thought. “I’ve waited three months to say this, Harper. Let’s go to work.”
*^~^*
Steve's voice jolted Wanda out of her daydream, and she quickly refocused her attention on him. "What do you think about running point from the compound on this upcoming mission?" he asked her. "It'll let you get your feet wet before you're out in the field again."
Wanda considered the proposal for a moment before nodding. "Sure, I'm up for it. Whatever you need."
"Great," Steve said, looking pleased. "I'll make sure to give you all the necessary details as soon as we have more information on movement from the targets."
Maria stood up from her seat at that moment, signaling the end of their meeting. "Thanks, everyone. Let's reconvene in two days to finalize the plan.”
As Wanda approached the door, Bucky stepped before her, blocking her path.
"May I help you?" she inquired, puzzled.
"Okay, Wanda. What's going on?" Bucky asked, concerned.
Wanda tried to play it cool. "What do you mean?"
"You've never zoned out in the middle of a meeting before. What's on your mind?” The super soldier asked.
"Nothing," she replied, trying to dismiss the subject.
"You're a terrible liar, you know that," Bucky remarked, seeing right through her.
Wanda knew that Bucky had a knack for cutting through the bullshit. "Is it Billy and Tommy?"
"No, no, the boys are fine," she quickly dismissed the idea.
"Is it this mission?” He suggested. “I can understand why you might be hesitant. It's been a long time since you've been out there."
"It's not the mission," she replied, turning around and walking back to the conference table.
Bucky followed her. "Then what is it?"
"It's y/n's first day back at the Candy Bar, and I'm just worried about her, that's all," Wanda confessed, exhaling deeply.
Bucky smirked. "You realize our job is vastly more dangerous than hers, right?"
"Yes, it's just... This is a big step in her recovery, and the shop means so much to her. I want it to go well."
"She'll be fine," Bucky reassured her, wrapping his arms around her. "She'll be home before you know it. Plus, it's movie night. You know how Y/N loves a good movie."
Wanda relaxed into Bucky's embrace. The super soldier had become a trusted friend, especially since her return to the team.
"Ooh, shoot," Wanda said, glancing at the clock. "I have to go pick up the boys at school, and if I don't leave now, I'll be late."
Bucky nodded. "Thanks for listening, Buck. I'll see you later."
"Okay, see you later," watching her rush out the door. Despite his attempts to reassure her, he could sense that Wanda was still concerned.
*^~^*
“Thanks, and please come again," you said as you handed the customer her bag of candy and homemade chocolate chip cookie. "Phew," you added, wiping your brow with the back of your forearm.
“Are you okay?" Harper asked
"Yes, I'm fine. I just forgot what the afternoon rush was like,” you lamented.
"Why don't you take your lunch break now?” Harper offered. “I can handle things for a bit."
"No, that's not necessary. I can do it,” you insisted.
“I know you can,” Harper touched your shoulder, "I just don't want your girlfriend on my case for not making sure you're taking it easy."
You laughed and replied, "Okay, I'll take a break. But not because of my girlfriend, because I know my limits.”
“Of course you do,” Harper smiled.
You step out of the shop onto the quiet side street, craving fresh air. After munching on the delicious peanut butter sandwich and apple slices that Nat had lovingly packed for you, you take out your phone and dial Wanda's number.
As soon as she picks up, you feel a wave of warmth washing over you. "Hey, sweetheart! I've been thinking about you all day. How's everything going down there?"
You smile to yourself, feeling grateful for having someone who cares about you so deeply. "It's going well," you reply, strolling back and forth. "I didn't realize how much I missed the shop until today. I'm on my lunch break right now. What are you up to?"
Wanda chuckles, and you can hear the sound of her kids playing in the background. "Just picked up the boys from school. They're supposed to be doing their homework, but I'm pretty sure they're playing rock, paper, scissors."
You laugh, feeling like you can picture the scene perfectly. "Why do I feel like I would be right there playing with them?"
"Because you totally would," Wanda agrees, and you can't help but grin.
"I miss you," you confess, feeling a little pang in your chest.
"I miss you too," Wanda says softly. "I can't wait to see you in four hours and eighteen minutes."
You chuckle, happy to hear she's also keeping track of time. "You watching the clock too?"
"Maybe..." Wanda giggles, and you feel your heart swelling with love for this remarkable woman.
Suddenly, you hear a commotion from inside the shop. Harper is calling you urgently. "Hang on a second, Wanda," you say, quickly moving the phone from your ear.
"What is it?" you ask Harper, feeling your heart racing.
"There's a strange man in the shop," Harper whispers, looking at you with concern.
You feel a chill run down your spine. "I gotta go, honey," you tell Wanda. "Harper needs me. I'll see you in a little bit."
"Okay, bye, y/n," Wanda says, her voice filled with concern at the abrupt departure.
"Bye," you say, ending the call and rushing back inside the shop to face whatever danger might be lurking there.
As you scanned the shop, you noticed a man standing near the candy with his back to you. He wore a black leather jacket, gloves, and a black baseball cap. You felt a little uneasy and were just about to call Wanda back to ask for help when he turned toward you. Your breath caught in your throat momentarily, but you immediately recognized the familiar face and breathed a sigh of relief.
“Oh, for God’s sake! It’s okay, Harper,” you called out. “I know him. Bucky, what are you doing here?”
“Oh hey, y/n! Is this your shop? I didn’t realize...”
“Buck, what’s going on? Did Wanda send you down here? I was just on the phone with her. She sounded fine,” weaving through the rows of candy.
“Dear God, no,” Bucky said. “She has no idea I’m here. But you should’ve seen her during the team meeting this morning, y/n. So distracted with worry over you going back to work. I wanted to ease her mind a bit.”
“That’s very sweet, Bucky,” you said, patting him on the back. “As you can see, I’m fine.”
He nodded in agreement and wrapped an arm around your shoulder.
“You know, for an Avenger, I was expecting a more covert disguise,” you said with a smirk as you wiggled the bill of his hat. “Isn’t Tony in charge of ensuring you guys are badass in style?”
“I would rather take a bite out of brick than wear a superhero costume,” he chuckled.
You looked over your shoulder to see your best friend watching you with a look of confusion on her face.
“Come on, I’ll introduce you to Harper. You scared the crap out of her.”
“Oh, no. That’s okay. I should be getting back to work,” Bucky said, pointing towards the door.
“I thought this was work?” You asked
“More like freelancing,” he replied .
“Hmm, I see… You want some ice cream?” you asked, gesturing towards the ice cream display.
Bucky peered over your shoulder at the menu on the wall. “Do you have Pistachio?”
“I think I can scare up some Pistachio,” you giggled.
*^~^*
After a long day at work, Wanda showed up to pick you up and drove you back to the compound. Despite your insistence that you could call for a ride, she was determined to take you home. As you got into her car, you expressed gratitude and apologized for the inconvenience.
"Where are Billy and Tommy?" you asked.
Wanda smiled and replied, "They're at the compound playing with Morgan. If you're up for it, I'd love to introduce you to them tonight. I know you've had a long day back, and it's a school night, so we won't stay long," she reassured you, "but I would love for them to meet the woman who's making me so happy."
As you listened to Wanda speak, you felt a lump form in your throat and had to look away for a moment to compose yourself. You had longed for the day when Wanda would feel comfortable enough to introduce you to her sons, but you didn't want to push things too fast. You knew that they had already gone through so much pain and heartache in Westview after losing their father, and you didn't want to disrupt the new life that Wanda had worked so hard to build for them as a family of three. Despite your desires, you respected Wanda's boundaries and tried to be patient, hoping that one day, she would feel ready to take that step with you.
“Nothing would make me happier, Wanda,” you said.
*^~^*
As you stepped out of the elevator and into the common area, you were greeted by the comforting aroma of food cooking. You spotted Maria and Natasha moving about the kitchen, preparing dinner. The sound of sizzling and chopping filled the air, making your stomach growl with hunger.
Maria noticed your arrival and greeted you, "Hey, y/n! How was your first day back at work?"
You placed your messenger bag on the counter and took a seat on the island, feeling the tiredness from the day setting in. "It was terrific," you replied, "I'm tired, but it's the good kind of tired. A successful day at the Candy Bar," you said.
Just then, Yelena walked into the kitchen with a bottle of Vodka and a shot glass. "Ah, perfect timing! The candy maker is home," she exclaimed.
Yelena explained that it was a team tradition to mark the occasion of someone recovering from an injury and returning to the field with a celebratory shot. Natasha quickly dismissed her sister's intention, saying that you didn't have to do it if you didn't want to.
But you liked the sound of it and picked up the glass, gesturing to Wanda. "To life," you said with a wink before downing the shot in one go.
Impressed, Yelena complimented you, "Congratulations, y/n. We're glad to have you here," patting you on the back as Wanda kissed you.
As you were chatting with Wanda, suddenly, you heard a commotion down the hall, and the next thing you knew, Morgan, Billy, and Tommy came running through the room.
“Careful!” Nat shouted as Tommy super-sped around the sofa.
“These must be the guests of honor,” you whispered to the redhead next to you. She just chuckled at your statement.
“Boys, could you come here for a moment?” Wanda asked. “I have someone I want you to meet.”
The two sons stopped at their mom’s voice and approached you.
“Boys, I’d like you to meet y/n. Y/N, this is Billy and Tommy,” Wanda gestured to each of her sons.
“Hi, I’ve heard so much about both of you from your mom. It’s nice to meet you!” You said, shaking both of their hands.
“Hi,” they both said, a bit shyly.
“Remember the special candy bags you two got for birthdays?” Wanda said. “It was from y/n’s shop, The Candy Bar.”
“Wow, you own a candy shop? That’s so cool! So you get to eat candy all day?” Billy asked, his eyes wide with excitement.
“I did for the first couple of weeks after I opened the shop,” you explained, “but I always had a nasty stomachache.”
“Did you bring any candy with you?” Tommy asked, looking at you with puppy dog eyes.
“Tommy,” Wanda scolded.
“No, that’s alright. Hmmm,” you rubbed your hands together. “I think I might have something,” you said, reaching behind Tommy’s ear and pulling out a chocolate gold coin.
“Woah, cool!” Tommy exclaimed.
“I think you may have one back here as well,” you smirked, reaching behind Billy’s ear and pulling out another coin. “Oh, look at that, I was right!”
“Awesome!” Billy said.
“What do you say, boys?” Wanda reminded them.
“Thank you, Y/N!”
“Yeah, thank you, Y/N!”
“You're welcome, guys.”
“Can we go back to playing now, Mom?” Billy asked.
“You may,” Wanda smiled.
“Oh, and Morgan, come here for a second,” kneeling to the little Stark’s level. “Ah, there we go!” Reaching behind the girl’s ear and pulling out another gold coin.
“Thank you, Y/N!” Morgan gasped with joy.
“You’re welcome, honey,” you said, wrapping her in a hug.
All three kids ran off happily back toward Morgan’s room.
“That was a surprise,” Wanda said. “Since when are you a magician?”
“You don’t know everything about me yet,” you smirked, repeating the exact words she said on your first date. “It’s part of the magic that is me.”
“Ah, I see,” Wanda said, wrapping her arms lovingly around your neck. “Well, I can’t wait to see what other tricks you have up your sleeve.”
“I’m just getting started,” you winked, feeling a rush of affection for the redhead.
*^~^*
The day had been long and tiring, and you were looking forward to movie night with the rest of the team. After saying goodnight to Wanda and the boys, you joined the others in the living room, where they were bickering over which movie to watch. Kate and Clint couldn't agree on the genre, but eventually, they settled on an action movie that you weren't particularly interested in. You found a comfortable spot on the end of the sofa and snuggled up in your favorite fluffy blanket.
Tony was sitting next to you, reading the newspaper, one of the many things that intrigued you about him. The entire compound was futuristic and filled with state-of-the-art technology, but Tony still enjoyed the simplicity and controversy of the printed word.
As you watched the movie, a name on the newspaper's front page caught your eye. You asked Tony if you could see the paper, and he handed it to you. The headline read,
"Onyx Petroleum Company seeks permission to drill on remnant Sokovian soil. Y/F/N Y/L/N, Y/M/N Y/L/N to meet with Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Your heart sank as you read those words. No matter how far you ran, your parents always found a way to return to your life in the most unexpected and disastrous ways. You tossed the paper aside, feeling troubled and uneasy.
"Excuse me, everyone," you said, standing up. "It's been a long day, and I'm pretty tired. I think I'll call it a night. Goodnight, all."
You walked towards your room, feeling the weight of the news on your shoulders. Tony was the only one who noticed the troubled look on your face. He picked up the newspaper and read the headline. His heart sank, and his blood boiled. Without saying a word, he got up and followed you to your room, determined to help however he could.

Spoon (twice!) - from The Secret Portal Part Two (Lexi POV)
“Oh, shoot, I forgot my planner.” I turned to see it still lying on the floor. I flicked my wrist slightly to teleport it in my hand. “You brought a planner to breakfast?” Tyler asked as he drank his orange juice. “It’s just how I manage my life,” I said. I opened it up on the table to show them the January schedule. “Wow, that’s really pretty,” said Carla. “I don’t need a planner, given my powers.” “Aw, yeah, I wish I could just stop time at my leisure,” I said as I closed the planner again. “I have a planner,” said Tyler. “It’s called here.” He pointed to his head. “Medina has one like yours, but it’s a little boring.” “One, you need to write things down in case you forget,” said Gabriel, pointing at Tyler with his spoon. “Two, I don’t see why a planner needs color.” “To organize different activities,” I answered. “Hm. Well, I guess mine is just schoolwork and my job.” “You have a job?” I asked, leaning forward. Gabriel nodded. “Construction job—perfect for terrakinetics. After school on the weekdays, I walk about fifteen minutes to a site—” “Wait, you live here full time?” I asked. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.” “You’re fine, I don’t care. Yes, I live here full time.” I chose not to inquire any further, even though Gabriel didn’t seem that bothered by it. “After school, I do the homework that I need to get done, then I help the docs out.” “What do they need help with?” “Various things. Um, right now we’re sorting through the multiverse database to see if we can find Rosalinda.” “Oh, yes, that’s right.” “G,” Carla whispered. “I’m fine, Carla,” I said. “But thanks. It’s actually really cool that Gills is helping.” “Gills?” Gabriel sighed then continued eating. “You really have been spending way too much time with Stafford.” “When are you gonna accept it’s an actual genius nickname?” Tyler asked. “Then why don’t you use it?” “It’s too silly for you.” “Do you not like the nickname?” I asked. “We can stop using it.” “Unfortunately, Nakashima is right,” Gabriel muttered, spinning his cereal around with his spoon. “It’s a pretty clever nickname. It’s so stupid, it almost works.”
It's Gills because his initials are GLZ (surname not included)
Energy - from The Secret Portal Part One
William put down his tablet and rubbed his eyes beneath his glasses. He’d been working so late that it was now early. It was so quiet he could hear the snakefly behind him violently flapping its wings. He sighed, then reread the last paragraph he’d written: Replicating the negative energy density found in a chronokinetic’s rifts is no easy task. The level needed to connect one time to another is far greater than a Level-7 teleporter, but nowhere near the level in the portal that connects our reality to Ceteri, nor even a dimensiokinetic. If chronokinetics were less seldom born, perhaps this task would be accessible. William glanced at the chemicals bubbling in the flask on the table before him. As there hadn’t been a documented chronokinetic in a century, it was nearly impossible to replicate their powers considering the amount of negative pressure needed. He would have to work with what he had: a Level-7 teleporter’s DNA—not common, but much more so than a chronokinetic. Jumping through space required significantly less negative energy density than time jumping, so trying to get it up to what he desired was no easy feat.
Study - from The Secret Portal Part One (Ash POV)
I'm probably gonna change the "in a century" thing. Not sure what I'm gonna do but it feels wrong.
“Telepathy is an exception to the classification of powers. It and shapeshifting are the only two recorded to not have their sub-powers build off each other, but rather have them separate.” “Why are there so few sub-powers?” I prodded. “The mind doesn’t have a limit, therefore telepathy shouldn’t, either, right?” Carla waved her hand side-to-side as if to say eh, kinda. Aloud, she answered, “It’s been said that there have been cases of telepaths with more advanced powers, but there has only been one recorded case. Though some conspiracy theorists say there were more, but weren’t recorded, and that they went into hiding, locked themselves away, or maybe went insane.” “Insane?” I repeated. Carla fiddled with the ring hanging from the chain around her neck. “The mind can only stretch so far. If advanced telepaths did—or even do—exist, there would be no way they could function. Their minds aren’t able to communicate the information that they can comprehend. They end up lost in their own thoughts, unable to reach out to another being.” I fell silent. “Carla’s in an online holographic course in Telepathic Theory,” George said, breaking the silence. “All of that is just theory. Scientists who study the telepathic mind made a list of potential powers.” “Can powers develop?” I asked. “Of course,” said Carla. “Most Alii, in general, start at a lower Level, usually a Level-1, and most become more powerful. It depends on the person.” “So, you’re saying I have the potential to be a powerful telepath?” Carla laughed. “No, the odds are you’ll be able to read minds and that’s it. Maybe one sub-power.” “Oh.” My shoulders dropped. “Okay.”
Listen - from The Secret Portal Part One (Kelsey POV)
“Kelsey!” I heard a faint voice say. “Kelsey!” I opened my eyes, lifting my head against the strong wind. A small figure walked toward me, kneeling down beside me. “Kelsey, look at me,” Maddie said, grabbing my hands. Her long hair whipped around her body, out to me. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I clasped her hand. My neck was ticking uncontrollably, preventing me from meeting her eyes. “It’s gonna be okay,” she said, pulling me forward into a hug. I embraced her, shaking, twitching, sobbing. “Kelsey, listen. Remember yesterday when this happened? You made the mansion toxic. Remember?” I nodded. “I don’t want that in my house. But you need to get rid of this… weird darkness stuff instead of just making it explode. Can you do that?” I shook my head. “Just focus on me, ‘kay? Now, can you breathe? Slowly?” I did, inhaling and exhaling. “I think you can make this black smoke go away if you imagine sucking it all up. Or maybe it just needs to disappear. Can you do that? Imagine it. Maybe it’ll work.” I closed my eyes, imagining the darkness fading away until it disappeared. I imagined the air in the room was still at breathable levels. That the smoke nor wind didn’t affect anything around it. The wind stopped. The darkness went away. Still in Maddie’s arms, I opened my eyes. The room looked untouched.
Pretty sure I've shared that last excerpt before but I like it

I have to say and request this, Rex Splode firework request, bro, him giving his object of desire a private firework show just to get in his darlings pants is just so on point for the season! Bonus points for being dicked down somewhere up against a tree, bark digging into those arms as they try and hold themselves together, double down with potential marking with a burning slap to that ass *chef kiss*
Warning- Blood, Non-Con, Gaslighting
After Samantha had turned his second chance down, oh he was pissed. He wasn't perfect, what more did she want from him? He tried getting with other chicks but nothing seemed to fit the void he created in his own life. So after about a month of trying to find a new fling he met you. Kate had brought you over after they had a successful mission and wanted you to tag along for the celebration. So Rex of course flirted with you and eventually got your number.
But this particular night he was so starved of attention he found himself drifted away to the middle of the woods and his phone in hand about to call you.
So if Rex had anyone on his side right now who would give him the validation he desperately needed, it would be you.
“Hey (Y/n), you free?”
“Yeah, I'm just locking up at work. It's pretty late though, are you alright?”
“(Y/n) I'm a fucking superhero for god's sake, I'm perfectly fine. But I do have a surprise for you.”
“Oh Rex, that's so sweet of you. Where am I going again?”
“Outside the woods behind the headquarters. I'll pick you up.”
❀
“Your missions are always so cool, It makes me wish I had some cool powers so I could help.” You rambled as Rex flipped another coin into the air, the loud pop catching you off guard.
“Nah you don't want that it's far too dangerous for someone as fragile as you,” Rex commented. His hair hung freely in front of his face, he felt freer than ever when around you. So might as well get comfortable right? “So how's the surprise huh? Isn't this just perfect?”
“I love it out here so peaceful and quiet. Plus It's nice that your giving me my own fireworks show.” You enthused. Rex smiled you going for another coin but he stopped himself.
“(Y/n) Looks like I ran out of change, shit. I'm so sorry, but I'm sooo happy to hear that you had such a good time. You know Id only do this type of shit for you. So I think I deserve something in return.” Rex moved closer to you placing his hand on your knee. You jumped and moved to the side.
“Oh- Um Rex… I'm sorry I just thought-” Rex quickly shushed you placing his finger over your lips. He then moved back towards you, even closer, to the point where you could feel his breath fanning over your face. Rex then quickly latched himself onto your lips. You banged against his chest immediately making him pull away.
“What the fuck!” Rex yelled at you. You started gathering all your stuff, Rex starting to panic. “Wait don't go, just calm down you're being dramatic.”
“I'm going home. Ill… I'll call you tomorrow.”
“No!” Rex yanked you back down. He didn't know what came over him, it felt like a mixture of things. Rage, Lust, Greed… it all flew past him and every ounce of sense in him left as he started to choke you. You clawed at his hands starting to gasp, You reached for a nearby rock and bashed him on the side of his head.
Rex yelled out letting go of you. You scurried off into the forest, leaving everything behind. Rex groaned out, and pulled a coin out of his pocket, throwing it at your belongings. That should take care of you trying to come back and get help. Rex stumbled to his feet looking down at his hand, not seeing any blood. He chuckled to himself before going after you.
You had no clue where you were and eventually you collapsed falling to the ground. You caught your breath.
What was his deal… He seemed so nice…
Then you felt a sharp pain in your leg. You screamed out looking back and seeing a disheveled Rex. He pushed his hair out of his face looking down at where his foot was planted in your knee, surely dislocating it. “There you are, you ran off so quickly… Almost forgot to destroy that fucking phone of yours.”
Rex pulled you up, pinning you to a tree. He kissed at your neck and ground against you Rex loved every fucking second of it. He loved to hear your stifled moans, you were trying so hard to not enjoy this. turning him on even more. He tore through your top and popped your bra in the process. “I would love to take my time with your slutty body but I really just want to own the shit out of you.”
“Please! Rex, I just want to go home…” You cried out gripping onto his shoulders. You clung on desperately, your leg burning to the point where even Rex could feel it.
“You had your fucking chance! Now give me what. I. Want!” Rex tore off your bottoms and held you up on a tree on one arm and unzipped his pants freeing himself with the other. You could feel the heat radiating off him that's how turned on he was. “Now sit still.”
Then Rex filled you completely, all in one jab. You cried out as he picked you up and started a rough and quick pace. His pants rubbed against your cunt giving you more stimulation, Rex loved that even he can pick it out. Your legs wrapped around him pulling him close.
“You love that huh… You need this… Your fucking mine!” Rex pushed you further into the tree covering both of you in splinters. You looked off to the side not wanting to face Rex. He didn't like that at all, was he not doing good enough. Rex quickly pulled a coin from his pocket and activated his power, and slaps your ass. That would for sure get your attention back to him. You screamed out and dug your nails into the tree. It burned everything burned.
"That's going to fucking hurt in the morning, and I don't really fucking care!"
“I'm gonna fucking cum, you better do it too!” Rex growled and kissed you, both of your moans filling each other's mouths. Rex pulled away his pace getting faster, placing his forehead on your own. “Tell me you love me…”
“I-I…. I love y-you Rex…” You mumbled and stuttered out.
“Oh, that's it… that's fucking it.” Rex groaned dumping his cum inside you. Rex moved his hand to your clit rubbing quickly. You came a few seconds after. Your vision went spotty as he dropped you to the ground.
“Wow you losing a lot of blood there, don't worry Ill patch you right up. I hope you liked the fireworks.”

Oh, for the ship ask, how about 💖 and 😒 for roloceit?
Hello this came out absurdly long. Also I started, stopped, and forgot this twice because I had to go out for dinner, and then the new Asides dropped.
💖- How do each of them feel about pet names?
I think it goes without saying that Roman is just about the biggest fan of pet names and quirky nicknames there is. He probably dedicates an entire journal to lists of nicknames for each of the sides, and makes little marks and notes to indicate which ones got particularly strong reactions. This one made Janus laugh, use again. Logan was frustrated he didn't understand this one, do not use. He's a dork, is what I'm saying.
Janus gets a lot of snake and scale themed nicknames still because Roman actually thinks his scales are lovely and wants him to know that, always. References to musicals, plays, and mythology are common place in his nicknames. Space themed nicknames are Roman's favorite for Logan, because they're romantic and fit so well, and he loves when Logan reacts to a new nickname in a way that lets him go off on a passionate ramble where he compares him to the sun and the stars until Logan is beet red and mumbling for him to please have mercy and stop his gay heart can't take this?? His nicknames are often themed around novels, sci-fi, science, and also mythology. Roman will also add specific references to Logan's current hyper fixation.
When it comes to simpler, more common terms of endearment Roman's favorites are things like my love, my treasure, my heart, my muse. Sweet and classic, and letting his loves know in a casual way that they're important and beloved and invaluable to him. As for being called pet names? Roman loves it. He's weak for being given affection in any form, honestly, but pet names give him this warm wobbly feeling in his heart. Janus's casual endearment, like loving Roman just comes so naturally and effortlessly to him, makes him melt. Logan's carefully curated nicknames, that he puts so much thought and effort into because nicknames don't come naturally to him but he loves his boyfriends so much that he wants to try anyway, always leave him beaming.
Janus is the second biggest fan of pet names here, because of course he is - he's just as much of a dramatic flirty theatre boy as Roman is. His arsenal of affectionate nicknames is smaller than Roman's, because he doesn't really plan them out like Roman often does. He'll make them up on the spot most of the time, just say whatever comes naturally at the moment. He's made up plenty of little situational nicknames that are almost forgotten as soon as that situation passes, until he says it again like four months later and it immediately reminds Roman or Logan of that exact situation and they start yelling (affectionately). He has a set of favorite nicknames for each of the sides, though, that he uses most often. Roman is his Prince Charming, his Braveheart, his ... terms themed around royalty, bravery, creativity, and charm. Janus is good at this, I am not. Logan can expect to be flustered with My Starlight and My Night Sky fairly often, and also Sherlock Holmes and references to his curiosity, because Janus finds that particularly endearing about him.
Janus's favorite pet name is darling and he uses it constantly, but he can also frequently sprinkle in terms like my beloved, my sweet, dearest, dear, dove. A lot of classic and sweet nicknames, which again, he uses often because terms of endearment just kind of come naturally to him. As for being called pet names, he's fond of it, and certain ones can fluster him, which his boyfriends love. Mostly he enjoys the simple reminder that he's cared for.
Logan's thoughts on pet names are a bit more complex but hey, he's a complex side. He's not good at nicknames, and he admits this. He's not that much better at terms of endearment in general, really. That kind of thing doesn't come as naturally to him, and he tends to express his affection in other ways. He knows, though, that Roman & Janus both enjoy them, so he does make the effort to use them every once in awhile, to cheer them up or just to see them smile. Because he thinks he's bad at them, Logan puts a lot of thought and genuine research into a nickname before he'll use it, because he wants it to be accurate and expressive and liked. Roman & Janus appreciate the effort he puts into them, especially because he doesn't really have to.
Logan always considered himself fairly neutral on the idea of nicknames and pet names, maybe even leaning towards dislike. He has a perfectly acceptable name and there's no reason not to use it, thank you. But that changed pretty fast when Roman & Janus started flirting with him. It flustered him for awhile, because there's a world of difference between pet names and the kind of mocking nicknames he's used to, but once they're all together they just kind of ... make him feel a bit warm and fuzzy.
😒- Who is more protective/gets jealous more easily?
Well, I can tag Logan right as the least protective and prone to jealousy. Not that he isn't protective at all, because he can and will shutdown anyone upsetting his boyfriends, but he has confidence that they can handle themselves and he's pretty good at being level-headed when he's not, you know, angry. He doesn't get jealous often and when he does it's mostly that insecure type of jealousy where he turns it in on himself.
Janus is very protective once he's attached to someone, and obviously his boyfriends are at the top of his list of attachments. He's protective in the way that he won't let anyone talk shit about them, only he can do that, how dare they? And he's very protective of like ... their excitement? If something is really important to them, Janus will bend over backwards to make sure no one else fucks it up, or he'll ruin their lives. He's like ... moderately prone to jealousy? He doesn't particularly like anyone outside of the circle flirting with his boys, and if he spots it he'll usually sweep in and out-flirt the offender and offer some scathing sarcasm and passive-aggression. Sometimes he gets caught up in the fear of being pushed out again and left alone, and he gets snappy and defensive.
Roman is a lot more protective in the physical ways. He's the one that would start a fist fight in public because someone got handsy with Logan or said something especially nasty to Janus. If someone or something is a threat to either of them? Roman will throw down at a moments notice. He'd take a bullet for them, but he's also definitely jumped in front of frisbees and tackled a wild Remus for them. Jealousy ... that's a bit of an issue for him. We all know his self esteem is in tatters, and that can get in his head and in the way of his relationships. He can caught up worrying that Logan & Janus love each other more than they love him, or that they're interesting in someone else and want to replace him, and why wouldn't they, he's so easily replicable-- Roman has definitely cried over his jealousy before, and him starting fights because of it is definitely a bit of a problem early in the relationship, though it is one that's eventually dealt with because of healthy communication and also therapy.
Uh, final verdict is Janus is the most protective but Roman is the most insecure, and Logan loves these fools.
BONUS HEADCANON.
Logan & Roman both own an absurd, insane amount of notebooks and journals dedicated to a vast variety of topics, including nicknames and relationships and random interests. Janus finds it such an amusing thing for them to have in common, and starts keeping a little relationship journal of his own where he keeps notes of all the little things and moments that made him think "wow, I love this person" and presented it to them on their anniversary. They loved it.

i like how with adrien, gabriel refused to akumatize him. i FEEL like there was a little hesitance there before he detransformed, having a ‘what if’ thought then immediately diminished it. oh wait that’s my kid - how awful of a father would i be if i did that hahah… unless…?
i imagine his thought process was “yeah I terrorize the world, I plan to end it, i’m a shitty dad, but i would never stoop so low as to vilify my own son 😤”
but then whenever he finds out his son is chat noir, it’s an immediate “ah well fair game lol” like MAN where does ur logic lie??? anyway i just find this funny. he’s not logical he’s just rich and evil
SERIOUS THOUGHT THOUGH, he didn’t realize it was adrien at first, and when he did, he was completely shocked (wow it’s almost like ur son is a human being gabe, who would’ve thought?) then he had his little weight of reality moment, that technically, he could do this, but ultimately seems disgusted by the thought and calls to demand the gorilla to immediately bring adrien back home. then we get a little moment where he’s like “are u ok?” “i know i’ve been distant since the loss of your mother, but u can still talk to me about anything” etc, aka the bare minimum.
literally that’s the thought here, i just found it an interesting moment. I would really like to see the Gabriel Agreste episode because that’s definitely something major and possibly could’ve factored into the glaciator 2 scene, or the scene could’ve been a possible callback to that episode, if something similar happened then.
adrien’s been through a lot of shit and there was very clear foreshadowing something is going to happen regarding him feeling bitter about being left out, and my theory was, -to the very basis of what will happen- is that he would turn to gabriel in a moment of vulnerability.
and hopefully some plot development will drastically happen and get us moving forwards, but we can never be too sure w this show lol. but now i’m honestly starting to think that whatever this drama will be will happen and be resolved within Ephemeral or Kuro Neko, and the final episodes will be about gabriel being defeated, or thought to have been defeated, Lila stealing the butterfly/possibly peacock miraculous, and mari actually confessing her feelings, (🤞)
i KNOW i have it reblogged somewhere in the ml tag, and i forgot the @, but dae know that comic where marinette confesses her feelings to adrien and he boards the train and it takes him awhile before he has an oh shit moment, she likes me, but the train is already moving? i think she gifted him something too. for the life of me i cannot remember but i swear this scene or something similar to it would be perfect for the finale and fit what the synopsis said.
Then mari makes the same confession she did in glaciator 2, and he realizes that she’s liked him all along.
p-plot progression.????????? NOT in MY miraculous ladybug!! no siree.
haha anyway. fun 5 am rambles that i always somehow end up doing. not even to mention the theory of adrien giving up his ring, for either responsible reasons because he’s leaving, OR from all the emotional build up and foreshadowing of him doing exactly that, making his leaving paris an easier decision.
and not to mention mari giving up the miracle box and potentially losing her memories.
….aand. not to mention Lila, i guess. because she still exists apparently. forgot about that
and finally finally, not to mention this show is not at all as complicated as it pretends/wants to be, has the POTENTIAL to be, because the buildup is always right there but they never follow through and i really spend time out of my life to write shit like this about this goofy little show!!! what is wrong with me
#ml#miraculous ladybug#ml salt#for the last bit? just mild negativity but not i’m a serious way. i hate using that tag#stupid me making stupid nonsensical rants. enjoy <3

bakugo and todoroki’s super secret santa mission
a/n: happy holidays everyone. this was a fic I wrote for one of my friends for xmas. enjoy reading!
pairing: bakugo katsuki x todoroki shoto tags: fluff, pre-relationship, swearing (a normal amount for bakugo), tdbk in love! wc: 7.8k
Class 1-A's Secret Santa poses a large problem for Bakugo Katsuki. It’s such a large problem that he has to ask for stupid IcyHot's help in finding a present. In return, he helps Todoroki with his present search (and perhaps catches feelings in the process, but shh, we don't talk about that).
The mall was so crowded that Bakugo was having an awful time finding Todoroki. At this time of year, he easily blended in with the horrible, glittery candy cane decorations.
Bakugo found him standing near the children’s play structure. He looked like a lost puppy, spinning around in search of the familiar blonde spikes and scowl. He squinted his eyes at Bakugo and waved. A small smile spread on Todoroki’s face at the sight of his friend.
Bakugo rolled his eyes at his behavior but walked towards him. They were supposed to meet at the other play structure that was on the opposite side of the mall. Todoroki must have gotten them mixed up again.
“There you are. I’ve been texting you,” Bakugo yelled once he was in yelling distance.
Todoroki looked down at his phone in his left hand as if he forgot it was there. So that’s what the vibrations were? He just assumed it was Midoriya sending him pictures of his new video game.
34 texts and 3 missed calls.
Oops, my bad. “Didn’t we say to meet near the children’s play area?” Todoroki asked, blinking in confusion as he frowned and stood up. He put his phone in the pocket of his blue coat and unwound his scarf from his neck.
“Yeah, the one on the South side,” Bakugo sighed in annoyance. “It doesn’t matter though, just help me so I can get out of here.”
“Okay, help me with Kirishima first. I’m not sure what to get him.”
“I know, and I don’t know what to get ‘Miss I can literally create whatever the fuck I want.’ We’ve been over this. Lucky for you, I have an idea for Kirishima.”
Bakugo grabbed Todoroki’s arm and dragged him along, making sure to not lose him in the crowd of frantic shoppers. If he had to waste another twenty minutes looking for the candy cane boy, it may just end with the building in flames.
They headed in the direction that Bakugo came from. He specifically asked for them to meet at the South side play structure since it was near the store he wanted to show Todoroki, but that plan clearly didn’t work out. So they made a short trek to the opposite side of the mall.
It would have been fine if Todoroki didn’t look at the windows of every single shop they passed.
He was infatuated with almost every product displayed in the windows. It didn’t matter whether it was a speaker, a t-shirt, or a toy—he wanted it all. He could probably afford it all too, with that black credit card he carried that belonged to his father.
Bakugo eventually dropped his arm. They were out of the most congested parts of the mall. They should be fine.
Yet in a few minutes, when Bakugo turned around to check if his classmate was following him, he saw nothing but empty air.
It was a few minutes before Bakugo found the tall boy surrounded by little midgets.
“Come on Icyhot, we don’t have time for this,” Bakugo scoffed, finding him in a Build-A-Bear.
Todoroki turned around to see Bakugo behind him, arms crossed and seething.
“But I want one. They’re so cute and soft. Look.” Its head drooped forward as Todoroki held the unstuffed bear out to show his friend.
Bakugo thought it was kind of ugly. It looked really scratchy too. Out of all the finished models sitting on their shelves, Todoroki somehow managed to pick the most hideous one.
The entire idea of Build-A-Bear was kind of disturbing to him. You paid money to take what is essentially a corpse of a toy, pump some white stuffing into it, and then put a little mass-produced heart in it. Then you would wash it, with air? And give it clothing? Weren’t stuffed animals loved because you could pretend they were alive? How were you supposed to think it was alive when you literally stuffed its guts and organs back into its skin? In conclusion, Build-A-Bear was ruining the imaginations and childhoods of its customers.
Bakugo glowered at Todoroki until he dejectedly threw the unstuffed bear back into the bin and followed him out of the store. Bakugo was right; they didn’t have time for this. This shopping trip was meant to find presents for Kirishima and Momo.
“Just go pull an old one out of storage at your house or something. I’m sure you have a million,” said Bakugo as they walked to the store Bakugo wanted to go in all along.
“Oh, I’ve never had one. Did you?” Todoroki asked, Bakugo dropping his arm once he realized.
Fuck, how could he have forgotten again? Childhood was always a touchy subject for his classmate, he knew that. He didn’t mean to make such a careless comment. “Yeah, I, uh, just assumed every kid had one at some point. Sorry,” he mumbled.
Silence fell between them as they finally made it to the shop that hopefully held Kirishima’s present.
“Here,” Bakugo pointed to a pair of shoes in the window. “He would probably want these.”
“Those are ugly though,” Todoroki bluntly pointed out. They were a white pair of chunky Fila shoes.
Did you see the stuffed animal you were holding? “I agree, but anything is a step up from those red crocs he wears all the time,” sighed Bakugo.
He went into the relatively empty store and found a pair of the same shoes in a size 10, then shoved them into Todoroki’s arms. “There you go. Go buy them.”
Todoroki turned around and walked towards the counter.
A girl stood at the counter, clearly bored with her minimum wage job. When she looked up and noticed him, she immediately put on her best smile and fiddled with her hair. She made a weird face once she noticed his scar but wiped off the frown after a few seconds. “Are you ready to checkout?” she chirped.
Her voice was awful. Nasally and partially responsible for Bakugo’s oncoming headache. “Fucking ridiculous,” Bakugo scoffed under his breath. “He shouldn’t get special treatment because he’s pretty. Everything in the world should be based solely on firepower.”
Todoroki replied, “Yes I am.” Completely oblivious.
Bakugo could not understand how someone could be so dense. He was one of the top students in the class, probably the entire school. He always made good snap decisions when under pressure. He was a good fighter, with or without his quirk. He was powerful and smart and strong. So how could he not notice when someone was clearly trying to flirt with him?
Bakugo crossed his arms and pretended to be intensely looking at some shoe displayed on the shelf. He glanced over every so often to make sure that Todoroki wasn’t about to get swindled out of everything he owned. He wouldn't put it past the poor, innocent boy.
Todoroki smiled at her, thanking her for her help, and Bakugo actually felt the girl’s soul ascend.
He walked over to the register and tried his best not to glare at the pair. She was really getting on his nerves.
Shit, he forgot about the budget limit they set.
Todoroki pulled out the credit card from his wallet and handed it to the salesgirl who was rambling about some deal that was going on as she punched something on her screen. He stared at her blankly, zoning out and probably thinking about the next soba dish he could have if Bakugo had to guess.
Bakugo pushed Todoroki’s warm hand away, almost slapping the card out of it, and the girl visibly scowled at him. Wow, lady, don’t try so hard to hide your disdain. He glared at her.
“Bakugo, what’s wrong?”
“I forgot to look at their price.” He turned to the salesgirl who was clearly annoyed. Good, maybe she would finally take a hint. “We can’t buy these.” He grabbed Todoroki’s free hand and tried to pull him away, but Todoroki stood there.
“Wait, but Kirishima will like these. It’s fine, I will just get them customized if they don’t fit the budget requirements that were set.” He handed the card to the girl who immediately sent a bright smile his way despite her eyes being fixed on Bakugo. She was plotting ways to murder him, he could tell. It was the same look plastered on his face for the majority of the day.
Bakugo cursed out Todoroki’s back but let the purchase continue. It wasn’t his money that was being spent, so who cared. Todoroki egregiously disrespecting the budget was somehow so on-brand for him.
She checked them out and handed them the box with a receipt. “Bye! Good luck with your shopping,” she said to Todoroki, completely ignoring Bakugo.
Todoroki pulled away from the blonde’s hand to put his card away and grab the shoe box. Bakugo flinched, dropping his hand. He forgot that he took it to drag the taller boy out in the first place.
Once they were out of the store, Bakugo snatched the receipt from Todoroki. He was appalled at the price. “11,500 yen? Are you serious? They said to keep it around 2,000.”
“It’s fine. They probably won’t be able to tell,” Todoroki said in his usual serious tone.
Bakugo stood and stared, surprised at the boy’s ignorant thinking. Uraraka would pass away if she was here right now. “Are you joking?”
Todoroki frowned, “No, are you joking?”
“No, I’m not. I don’t care though. It’s your money.” Bakugo went to throw the receipt away when he saw handwritten numbers at the bottom.
She didn’t.
Bakugo studied it more closely.
She did.
“Todoroki, how the fuck do you get all these people falling in love with you? You literally just stand there and trip over your words and smile. It may be endearing sometimes, but that still doesn’t explain anything.”
Todoroki cocked his head and peered over the blonde’s shoulder. “What did she write?”
“It’s her phone number, dumbass.” He balled up the paper and threw it in the nearest trash can.
“Hey, what if I wanted that?” Todoroki stared down at the crumpled paper.
“Why would you ever want to talk to someone like her?”
“No, I meant the receipt.”
Un-fucking-believable. Bakugo walked away from headache reason number two and towards the mall map. If Half-and-Half couldn’t keep up with him, then it was his problem. It was too tiring, corralling the boy. He had been here for at least an hour by now, and he hadn’t even gotten his gift for Ponytail.
Someone’s hand brushed his side and he recoiled at the touch. He turned his head to find the red and white-haired boy standing beside him. When the hell did he get behind him?
Mint permeated the air around them as Todoroki stood near his friend. His soft, even breathing brushed against Bakugo’s ear as he searched for the perfect place. A pleasant sense of peacefulness washed over the blonde as he felt the heat of his classmate’s left side gently radiate off him.
Todoroki pressed his long finger against the virtual map. “There’s a customization store over here it looks like.”
Todoroki’s words pulled Bakugo out of his daze. He must have been getting tired or bored, waiting for the other boy to make up his mind. “Fine, we’ll go there.” Only because it was close. “But then we are getting Momo’s present and leaving.”
They worked their way to the customization store that was conveniently close by.
The interior decor was not awful and there was no one trying to flirt with Todoroki, so this was considered a good place in Bakugo’s book. Todoroki seemed almost overwhelmed with the bright colors and loud bass that vibrated through the floor. His eyes wandered around, taking in the funky colors bathed in the low lighting.
Bakugo seized the box of shoes from Todoroki’s arms. He would have to do it or they would get nowhere.
“Hey, can we get these customized?” he shouted over the music, marching up to the counter.
The man spun around. “Sure, dude, what do you want on ‘em?” Oh no, not a skater guy.
Skater guys were right below annoying sales girls on Bakugo’s list of “Things I hate but must tolerate occasionally.”
“Todoroki, come here. What do you want to put on them?” Bakugo glanced back to see if his classmate actually listened. The blonde was surprised to find the other’s face only a few inches away from his.
Bakugo shifted to the right to make room at the counter. Todoroki stared down at the shoes then up at the man who was waiting patiently for their answer. “I’m not sure,” he finally said.
“You insisted that they be customized but you didn’t even know what you wanted on them?” scoffed Bakugo. He was this close to leaving and finding Momo’s present on his own.
Todoroki shrugged, looking back and forth between the blonde and the friendly cashier.
“It’s all good, bro. Have a look around with your... friend here.” He nodded towards Bakugo who was currently muttering every insult he could think of at the red and white-haired boy. “We’re open until ten, you have all the time in the world.”
“Thank you, sir,” Todoroki said. He turned around, clutching the box of shoes to his chest and looking around at the various options offered in the store. It seemed like he was having trouble concentrating.
Bakugo whipped around again, “Can you turn the music down?”
The man nodded and adjusted the volume so that it was at a normal level. Todoroki sent Bakugo a grateful look.
“Sorry, little dude, business is slow around here so I gotta pass the time somehow.” He stepped out from behind the counter. “There are some common designs over on that wall. Colors are right next to them and fonts next to those. Prices are over here by the register. If you have any questions, just ask me.”
This man had the patience of a saint, Bakugo decided. If he was faced to help the clueless idiot that possessed Todoroki on a daily basis, he would have burnt down the place in an instant.
Todoroki smiled. “Thank you, sir!” He strode toward the colors and surveyed his options.
“Bakugo, what do you think about this?” he asked, looking up. Hair fell in his eyes. He squeezed them shut and shook his head to clear it out of the way. He blinked a few times before staring widely at his friend again, grey and blue eyes shining.
Bakugo blinked away his thoughts and walked over to where Todoroki was standing and pointing to a color. It was a deep red that was slightly darker than Shitty Hair’s shitty hair.
“If you match it with black, like his hero costume, but you also put some white on it, I think it’ll look really cool. I think I will also put ‘Red Riot’ on it. What do you think?” He looked at Bakugo for confirmation.
Bakugo couldn’t help but smile as he pictured his friend’s reaction. “Yeah, he’ll eat that shit up for sure.”
Todoroki nodded and went to survey the different fonts. They were displayed on a small tablet that was connected to the large flat screen hanging above them. He scrolled through hundreds of fonts, double-tapping them to place a star next to his favorites.
“I like this one. Or, wait, this one is nice. This one is sort of manly though.” Once again, Todoroki was overwhelmed with choices and in need of some guidance.
Bakugo nudged the boy over so he could have complete control over the tablet. “What about this one?”
Todoroki tilted his head up to see a font he must have missed: big block letters that looked like they were aggressively painted with bold strokes. He smiled the same brilliant smile that he flashed at the salesgirl and skater man. “I think it’s perfect.”
The pair returned to the counter and to the whistling man who was sorting t-shirts into their respective piles. He noticed they were coming back over, so he quickly folded the last shirt before turning around to face the register.
“Okay, sir, I think we have finally decided.” Todoroki recited the codes back to the man as he punched them into the tablet.
“Very cool choices, give me a few seconds for a rough sketch that you can review before OK-ing it.” He grabbed a stylus from a tin nestled in the corner and started to draw random lines. At least, they looked pretty random to the two. They were shocked at the final design.
With slight direction and input from the boys, the man had created the coolest design either of them had ever seen. They told him about the gears on Kirishima’s costume and he incorporated them on the sides of the wording. He also added flecks of white like Todoroki had previously suggested to Bakugo before when they were picking out colors, as well as other patterns and highlights.
The man tilted the tablet towards the students. “Do you like it? If not, I have another idea.”
“Wow, yeah, that’s amazing,” Bakugo uttered.
Todoroki was just as shell-shocked as the former. “That’s perfect. Thank you so much.” He handed the credit card to the man.
“I just need to warn you that it’s not cheap. It’s about 8,000 yen for that design.” He expected the boy to retract his card, but he kept his arm sticking out.
“Oh, that’s fine. Thanks, I appreciate it.”
The artist took the card from him and looked at the name on the back: Enji Todoroki. So that’s where all this money came from.
He swiped the card and handed it back to the boy, along with the receipt. “If you leave the shoes here, then you can collect them in about a week. Just call ahead and we will get them ready for easy pickup.”
Todoroki frowned. “Oh, I thought you were going to do it right now since you were so fast with the sketch.”
Bakugo rolled his eyes at the ignorant behavior, but the man just laughed. “That’s flattering if you think I could do that all on the shoe itself, but we send them, along with this sketch, to a professional place.”
Todoroki nodded in understanding and placed the shoes on the counter. “Okay, thank you. I will call you in a week.”
“No problem, see you then.” He wished them luck on the rest of their shopping as they left the store. Maybe Skater Guy wasn’t so bad, Bakugo thought, he was a really talented artist and didn’t even snap at Todoroki once.
They were met with loud holiday music and warm air once they entered the main part of the mall and walked toward the directory. The onslaught of frenetic shoppers barrelled past without a second thought and would have dragged Todoroki away if not for Bakugo grabbing onto his arm at the last second.
“Fucking finally. Now what the hell do I buy?” sighed Bakugo as he scanned the section labeled “Women’s Clothing.” If all else failed, he would just buy her a scarf or something.
Bakugo never wanted to be a part of the gift exchange in the first place. It took days of Deku hounding him, Kirishima begging him, and Sero straight-up bullying him to get him to put his name in the hat.
He knew he shouldn’t have succumbed to the peer pressure when Iida came to his desk and told him that he would have to give a gift to Momo. The Yaoyorozu Momo, Quirk: Creation; aka, she could create literally anything she wanted to, so why the fuck did Bakugo have to buy her something?
Unfortunately for him, Momo was really looking forward to the Secret Santa. She couldn’t help but gush about it to her girlfriend Jirou, who would do anything to make sure Momo had a wonderful Christmas, even if that meant harassing a certain spiky blonde gremlin.
Bakugo wasn’t scared of her, no, not at all. Just like how he was not somewhat fearful of Sero, the only person Bakugo had ever met who was immune to his snarky comments and mean words.
After pressuring Iida enough to force him to reveal Momo’s gift-giver, Jirou came over and threatened Bakugo, hissing and engaging in an arguing match with him. It ended with Bakugo promising that he would give her a nice gift. Deku was amazed at Jirou’s success.
That’s how he ended up here, at the mall, with the one and only infuriating Todoroki Shoto by his side.
“I don’t know,” Todoroki frowned, scanning the directory to find a suitable store.
“You, what?” Bakugo must have heard him wrong. He must have heard him wrong because if not, then what was he even doing here?
“I don’t know what to get Momo.”
“Are you fucking serious? I literally agreed to meet you here because you said you could help me. I just hauled my ass around this stupid mall trying to help you get a good gift, and in return, you tell me you don’t know what to get her? I cannot believe-”
Todoroki turned and walked away. He learned that’s what you are supposed to do from Midoriya’s guide he passed out to the class named Dealing with Bakugo Katsuki 101. There was a section that Midoriya entitled “Feral Bakugo.” This must have been what he meant.
Method #1: Just walk away.
Bakugo chased after him. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Half-and-Half Bastard? Don’t walk away from me when I’m fucking talking to you, you son of a-”
Mothers covered their children’s ears and glared at the blonde because of his open profanity. People walked around him, wanting to avoid the shit that was inevitable about to go down.
Todoroki sighed. He would have to move on to method two. He turned around and stared at Bakugo with a blank look on his face.
Method #2: Stare at him to make him uncomfortable or confused.
“Okay, what the shit? You’re kind of creeping me out.” Bakugo stopped growling and being an overall barbarian in public. Mission: accomplished.
Todoroki was about to speak when something caught his eye in the display case behind him. He walked past Bakugo to see what was sparkling.
Bakugo turned around as the boy ignored him. “What the hell are you looking at now?” he snarled, still angry that Todoroki was ignoring him.
Todoroki pressed his face up to the glass, close enough that his breath fogged the display case. “Do you think Momo will like these?”
Cute glass figurines sat on a bed of cotton strewn about to look like fake snow. Glitter was sprinkled along the shelf and vinyl clings of snowflakes were stuck to the window. Wooden carvings rested near the glass characters, along with other useless knick-knacks and baubles. Bakugo found the whole display tacky, but Todoroki seemed to be enchanted by it.
“Let’s look at them more closely.” Todoroki grabbed Bakugo’s hand and pulled him into the store, seeming to forget about his so-called “feral behavior” three seconds ago.
The store had the exact opposite vibe as the customization one. It looked to be a novelty gift store. It was totally decked out in Christmas decorations, with lights hanging everywhere and Christmas music blaring loudly.
Todoroki immediately found the glass figurines in a box. He handed it to Bakugo for closer inspection, cold hand briefly brushing against the warmer one.
“She can just make these herself. They’re just pure glass anyway.”
“Sure she can, but it’s the thought that counts. Also, I don’t think she would ever think to make them.” Momo would never use her quirk in such a self-indulgent way. The only time she ever manifested items was when it was for others.
He had a point. “You’re right,” Bakugo conceded, flipping the box over to see the price. 5,500 yen, ouch. “But it’s still over the price range.”
“She won’t know though.”
Once again, he had a point. Momo had never been good at guessing the price of an object, probably because she never had to pay attention to it. Unlike Kirishima who would be able to tell just how expensive his customized shoes were, Momo might not even think to consider the price.
At the end of the day, Bakugo had to admit that Todoroki was pretty good at this gift-giving thing, but he wouldn't be caught dead ever saying that aloud.
Bakugo agreed to buy the figures, satisfying the other boy. The cashier easily rang up the figurines and they were out of the store in ten minutes.
Now that both presents had been bought, Bakugo was in a much better mood. The anxiety that came with the possibility of Jirou murdering him in his sleep dissipated once he finally purchased the gift.
“Why did your present take so much longer?” Bakugo teased.
Todoroki shrugged. “I’m not sure. They usually say it’s harder to shop for girls, right?”
Todoroki clearly did not understand the jab.
Bakugo cleared his throat. “Right. Anyways, are you ready to go? I have to go buy a present for my mom, but you can leave. I won’t keep you hostage.”
“Oh, alright. Goodbye.” Todoroki nodded once, turned on his heel, and walked away.
Bakugo watched him walk away before sighing to himself. Now came was the hard part. What would Todoroki Shoto want for a Christmas present?
-
Todoroki walked towards the exit, peeking over his shoulder every couple of minutes to see if the blonde boy had left. Once Bakugo had walked away from the gift store, Todoroki turned around and weaved his way back through the crowd.
While Bakugo was scrutinizing the glass figures, Todoroki saw a small potted cactus he thought the blonde would really like. It didn’t require too much attention and was very prickly; Bakugo was one of these two things. It was only a small present, and despite the number of times that he tried to deny it, Bakugo was indeed Todoroki’s friend.
He double-checked his surroundings to make sure Bakugo had truly left before walking into the store.
“Back again, honey?” The old woman who helped check out Bakugo was still sitting at the counter.
“Yes, I am buying a present for my friend.”
She smiled and went back to looking at her magazine.
Todoroki turned around to find the succulent, which was actually a Christmas cactus. How fitting. He picked it up and inspected it similarly to how Bakugo inspected Momo’s present. Looking at it, it didn’t strike him in the same way as it did earlier. Bakugo wouldn’t hate it, but he wouldn't love it either. After a few months, he would just think it was a nuisance and kill it.
He set it back down and looked around the store again. Now that he didn’t have to be secretive about what he was doing, it was much easier to clearly check out all the products. Still, nothing was standing out to him as a great gift, so he waved goodbye to the nice lady and went on his way in search of the perfect present for Bakugo Katsuki.
-
Bakugo had no clue where to even start.
Clothes were always the go-to present, so he might as well start there. Maybe some great idea would strike him from above while he wandered aimlessly.
He ended up in a punk-goth-emo type section. “How the fuck did I…”
Skulls and chains in a sea of black surrounded him as he tried to find an escape. This must be where his mother bought his clothes as a child.
He found the small hallway that he must have walked through to get to this terrifyingly bleak place. Taking a deep breath, he opened his eyes to find a half-red half-white haired boy standing about thirty feet away.
I thought he was the only one who looked like that. Unless… Todoroki Shoto has fanboys? It wasn’t completely out of the question. A lot of 1-A students garnered fans ever since the Sports Festival.
The possible fanboy turned his head.
Oh shit, never mind that was literally Todoroki.
Bakugo didn’t want to turn around and get lost in the endless maze of black again, but he couldn’t stay in this brightly lit hallway.
Instead, he darted down the hallway as fast as humanly possible and dove behind a clothing rack. It rattled softly, but Todoroki didn’t notice. Bakugo released a sigh. He clearly wasn’t going to find anything worthwhile here, so he made it his main priority to get the hell out of here before he was spotted.
Every few seconds, he bolted from rack to rack, making sure that Mr. Candy Cane never saw him. Todoroki never seemed to notice as he went around the store picking out clothes and feeling different materials.
God bless Bakugo’s amazing espionage skills, or he would’ve had a large problem on his hands if he had to explain why he was shopping for his mother in the goth section.
-
Todoroki was still having no luck.
Nothing caught his eye in the ginormous clothing store. A few times, a metal rack would shake and Todoroki would go check the mysterious noise out. The first time it happened, he considered it a sign from the gift-giving gods that purposely lured him over. That was until he discovered it was filled with tasteless vests and button-ups that no one should ever wear, not even as a form of punishment.
He knew Bakugo would not have the patience for any puzzles. He also doubted Bakugo would appreciate the simplicity of children’s toys, so he was out of ideas.
Todorki flitted around the entire mall, going from store to store as he combed through the thousands of gifts. The last few stores were a shoe store, a bookstore, and a jewelry store.
If nothing else worked, Todoroki would just buy him a book. He was pretty sure Bakugo liked reading, and lots of books existed, which meant his odds of getting a book that his friend hadn’t read before were pretty good.
He left that as his last resort and instead entered the jewelry store. Thousands of sparkling crystals blinded him and he almost walked right out. But no, he would press on until he found the perfect gift.
He knew Bakugo wouldn’t like anything too sparkly. His brazen personality was more than enough to gather people’s attention.
Eventually, Todoroki found himself in a section filled with bracelets and rings that weren’t outfitted with diamonds. They were mostly leather or solid metal.
He sifted through the suggestions, spinning the little carousels around when an orange bead caught his eye. He pulled it off the hook. It was a simple bracelet with metallic black and orange beads. The colors reminded Todoroki of Bakugo’s hero costume.
He slipped it on his own wrist and found that it was slightly elastic. It wouldn’t fall off, but it wouldn’t get stuck, meaning it would be perfect to wear during class or meals or combat training. Todoroki wholeheartedly believed Bakugo would appreciate the versatility.
He took it off and went over to the nearest register. There was one person in front of him, so he just got in line and looked at his phone.
Despite Todoroki sending no responses to Midoriya, he still texted him with screenshots of his game. There were over a hundred messages now. He must have been very excited.
The man working at the counter called “next,” so Todoroki put his phone back in his pocket, making a mental note to look at them later.
He gave the bracelet to the man, and the man scanned it and placed it in a fancy silver box lined with black velvet. He grabbed a small plastic bag and slipped the box in, along with a receipt. He wished Todoroki a nice day and the boy replied with a small “thank you” before grabbing the bag and walking out of the store.
He peered down at the box. It was the first present he had ever bought by himself, and he was strangely proud.
He was almost at the exit when he looked up to find Bakugo in front of him with a startled look on his face.
Bakugo spoke first. “I thought you left.” He eyed the taller boy with curiosity.
Todoroki’s eyes widened once he realized the situation. Bakugo couldn’t know he bought him a surprise gift. It wouldn't be a surprise then.
“Oh, um well, I planned to. But then I, uh, I saw this store, and I was like my cat would really like this…” he trailed off.
“Your cat?”
“Y-yeah, you know. My cat, uh, he likes to, to wear fancy jewelry sometimes. You know, like, to dress up for fun.”
Rich people were so fucking weird. “What are you saying-”
Todoroki scratched his head and nervously laughed. “Okay, bye!” He flew out of the store clutching the small bag.
-
There was no way he was buying something for his cat.
No fucking way.
He must have been buying something for his mother or his sister. He couldn’t understand why Todoroki would be so flustered over something like that but to each their own.
He looked around the store. It was his last-ditch effort to find something that suited Todoroki. His classmate had quite the eye for stupid, useless things, and jewelry seemed to fit the description well enough.
A young woman came up to him. “Hello, sir, do you need help finding something?”
Not another saleswoman, please no. He couldn’t take any more. At least this one had a normal voice and a non-murderous look in her eye.
The humidity in the building had messed up his hair and all their hustling had made him start to sweat. He wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans, just itching to blow something up. He must have looked terribly disheveled because the woman asked if he was okay.
He wanted to snap at her until he remembered that a place like this demanded civility. Very unfortunate. Instead, he tried answering her in the most docile way possible. Maybe she would actually be of some use. “Yes, I’m fine. I’m just having difficulty in finding a present.”
“Understandable! I can help you if you would like?” The saleswoman's happy, airy tone returned once he assured her that he was okay.
“Oh, actually yes. Yes please, thank you. Do you have anything a teenage boy would like? Something cool, but still elegant in a way?”
“Oh, do you have a boyfriend you are shopping for?” she inquired, leading him to a specific area of the store.
“What? No!” he snapped.
A blush may or may not have graced his cheeks when he thought about Todoroki opening his present.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked that. We have a collection over here though if you would be interested.” She could tell he was lying, either to her or himself. No straight, teenage male would be found dead in a jewelry store buying a present for his male friend. The red cheeks were also a dead giveaway.
“Yes, sorry. It’s just been a tiring day.” Bakugo didn’t mean to bark at the lady who was just trying to help him; it was just second nature at this point.
“I’m sure it has. Gift shopping can be hard, but that’s why I’m here.”
They made small talk while she showed off many different pieces. Various features and product advantages flew over his head as he tried to picture each bracelet on Todoroki’s wrist. He eventually settled on a leather cuff with a large metal adornment.
“If you want to fill that metal box with an engravement, that’s included if you buy it.”
Todoroki would definitely like this. His gut told him so, and it was never wrong.
“Okay, cool. I’ll get it engraved.”
They walked over to the engraving station in the corner of the shop. The woman unclasped the bracelet, placing the cuff flat on the table, and turned towards Bakugo. “What would you like it to say?”
“Oh, can I have a second?”
The woman nodded and smiled, but her eyes anxiously traveled from customer to customer.
The holiday season was always a great time for her paycheck, but she couldn’t really keep up with commissions if she was stuck helping the same customer. Children like him usually bought the first thing they saw, which is why she started with the most expensive items first. The fact that he took so long only further convinced her that he was shopping for a special someone.
Bakugo crossed his arms. He can’t fuck it up now. He’s spent hours in this dreadful building to find the perfect gift. Now it was in his grasp, and he could make it even more perfect if he thought of the right thing to write on it.
“You can always engrave it later, but I would recommend something like-”
“I got it! Put Katsuki on it in Kanji.”
The lady smiled at the blonde, ready for this exchange to be over so she could go help someone else. “Is that his name?”
“No, it’s mine.”
The woman gave him a strange look. “Sir, do you really-”
“You heard me, lady,” he growled. He was about to explode, literally and metaphorically. It had been hours since he last felt something explode beneath him, and he just wanted to feel the satisfying recoil when he used his quirk.
She scowled at him but did what he said. At the end of the day, he was just another customer that would fill her pockets.
She quickly rang him up and placed it in a box. Bakugo was slightly shocked at the price, but he couldn’t back out now. Also, it was engraved so there was no returning it. Also, he was very confident that Todoroki would really like it.
Bakugo walked out of the store after muttering thanks. His energy and wallet were exhausted and he was ready to go home.
He headed towards the exit when another store caught his eye.
One more stop couldn’t hurt.
-
Everyone was gathered in the common room on the first floor of their dorm building. The Christmas tree’s lights illuminated the room and all of the students were curled up near the fireplace. They had enjoyed a large dinner beforehand, munching on cookies and sipping on milk afterward.
Todoroki and Bakugo ended up sitting next to each other on the floor as they eagerly waited for Kirishima and Momo to open their presents.
Kirishima’s name was called next, and he searched for his package. Todoroki had wrapped it with red wrapping paper covered in cartoon ornaments and tied a large gold bow on top.
Kirishima grabbed the box and crawled back to his seat next to Denki. He shook it loudly and held his ear up to it. Denki rolled his eyes and told him just to open it. Kirishima elbowed the blonde before tearing open the paper. He lifted the lid to find the shoes Todoroki had customized for him.
“Holy shit! These are the coolest things I’ve ever seen!” He pulled them out of the tissue they were nestled in and held them up for the rest of the class to see. Everyone oohed and ahhed, stunned to see the fantastic gift.
“Your gift giver must have been Momo or Todoroki!” Mina noted as she wrote that down on her notes. She was trying to figure out who everyone’s Secret Santa was with Uraraka’s help.
“It doesn’t matter who it was, they’re so awesome. Thank you!” He grinned his little shark smile and stuffed them back into the box.
Todoroki side-eyed Bakugo and discreetly high fived him.
A few more people opened presents until Momo’s turn came around. Mina got hot pink roller skates, Shouji got a six-armed knit sweater, and Sato got a few new kitchen knives.
Momo grabbed her box, a smallish one wrapped in pink wrapping paper with baby pink stripes on it. Thankfully, she did not shake it like Kirishima or Bakugo would have to riot.
She gently tore the wrapping paper off and opened the brown box. The brown paper crinkled as she pulled the wrapped figurines out. Untying the strings, the paper opened to reveal three crystal animals that sparkled in the multicolored light.
“Thank you, whoever! They are very pretty,” she smiled at the whole room. Jirou curled into her girlfriend’s side, flipping the figurines over in her hand to look at them.
Uraraka muttered to Mina, “I have no clue…” Mina reluctantly placed a question mark next to Momo’s name.
Bakugo smirked to himself. There was no way in hell he would let himself be discovered.
-
The rest of the class opened their presents, and overall, everyone was very happy. People munched on desserts, drank hot cocoa, and talked and laughed with each other. Per Kirishima’s request, Bakugo had even power napped before the event so he wouldn’t have to leave early.
By the time midnight rolled around, almost everyone was gone. Almost everyone, meaning everyone except Todoroki and Bakugo.
Bakugo had brought the bracelet with him and hid it in his sweatshirt the entire night. No opportunity had presented itself, but then again, no one would just give you an opportunity. You just had to steal it for yourself.
Bakugo watched Todoroki’s figure as he fluffed all the pillows and folded the blankets.
The blonde almost spoke several times but hesitated each time. No, he was not chickening out. It just wasn’t the right time.
“Um, Bakugo,” Todoroki started. “I got you a present. I saw it and thought of you.”
Bakugo turned around to find a box that looked strikingly similar to the one in his pocket. He untied the ribbon and opened the lid. A bracelet with orange and black beads.
“It reminded me of your hero costume. The black and orange,” Todoroki admitted, abashed.
Bakugo slipped it on. It was very nice, stretchy, and easy to take on and off. He looked up at his classmate.
Todoroki’s heterochromatic eyes stared into his eyes, trying to gauge the blonde boy’s reaction.
Fuck, was he always this pretty? Bakugo wondered, his heart possibly skipping a beat.
“Bakugo?” Todoroki cocked his head to the left, white hair falling in his eyes.
Bakugo was suddenly very aware of how close the other boy had gotten.
“Yeah?” he breathed out, distracted by the mint scent that surrounded the two of them.
“Do you like it?” Todoroki shifted closer, inspecting the bracelet and how it looked on the blonde’s wrist. He picked up the smaller boy’s arm and turned it over in his hands, watching the light bounce off the wooden beads.
“Oh, yeah I do. I do,” Bakugo managed to stutter out. The alternating warm and cold touch sent jolts up his arm and through his body.
Todoroki smiled, dropping his arm to look at Bakugo who had a light blush on his cheeks. It was very cute according to Todoroki.
Bakugo had to sympathize with the salesgirl now. It really was a killer smile that he possessed.
Oh right, he almost forgot. He got too swept up in… everything. “I have a gift for you too. For helping me with Momo’s present and stuff.”
He tore his eyes away from the boy to go find the box he hid in his coat earlier. The bow got slightly crushed, so he tried fixing it as best as he could before turning it around to hand it to Todoroki.
He unwrapped the bow and pulled out a leather cuff with some sort of engraving. “Oh, wow, Bakugo, this is really nice.” He turned it over to read the engraving. “Wait, why does it say your name?”
“Kacchan, you did not just give Todoroki a bracelet with your name on it.”
Bakugo’s face went red at the sudden intrusion. “Shut the fuck up, Deku,” he growled. “Why are you even here?”
“Oh, I was trying to find Aizawa to give him this sweater for his cat. Also, I had colored pencils and a coloring book for Eri, but I couldn’t find them. I thought they might have come here but I guess not. I will take my leave now, so have fun you two!” He hopped off the couch and disappeared around the corner.
Todoroki and Bakugo stared at his retreating figure.
Todoroki poked the blonde. “So why is your name on it?”
“So you’ll always remember who gave it to you!”
“Oh.” Todoroki didn’t know how to feel about that. On one hand, it was kind of cute. On the other hand, it really just wasn’t.
Bakugo’s heart fell at the lackluster answer. “If you don’t like it, I can just take it back or something.” He definitely could not take it back.
“No, I love it.” He slipped it on his wrist and admired it.
Todoroki could stare at the bracelet all day and Bakugo could stare at him all day, but there was something else Bakugo wanted to give. “Uh, Todoroki, I also got you something else.”
Todoroki looked up with inquisitive eyes, folding his hands in his lap.
Bakugo stood up and grabbed Todoroki’s present that he had hidden under a pillow all night.
“I remember you said you never had one as a kid, and it seemed like you really wanted it.” He threw the teddy bear into the other boy’s arms while he trudged back over to their spot in the middle of the room near the fire.
Todoroki easily caught it and looked down to find the teddy bear he wanted from Build-A-Bear that day they went shopping together. He hugged it to his chest and found that it was soft. (It really wasn’t.)
Bakugo melted a bit at the sight as he smiled fondly at the boy. He was so innocent sometimes.
“Thank you,” he whispered, looking up at Bakugo.
“You’re welcome,” Bakugo whispered back.
All of a sudden a paper plane hit Bakugo on the side of his head, shattering the sweet atmosphere.
He growled and looked around for the culprit, but no one was there. Dammit. Grabbing the paper in his hand, he angrily snapped it open to find a message written in very familiar handwriting on it.
“Just kiss already <3”
Deku was about to get a fucking mouthful.
-
"And that is how you fly a paper airplane, Eri!” Midoriya smiled at the little girl.
He watched his friends around the corner, Bakugo growling over the paper airplane and Todoroki trying to read what it said while he held his new stuffed animal to his chest.
They would be just fine. More than fine. They would be happy. And that’s all Midoriya could ever ask for.

thank you once again @yibobibo for tagging me ♥ even if, like I said, this is pure torture. I have so many sons that I’ve given up on counting them sigh but here goes.
favourite male fictional characters.
I took it that this meant ten so am going with that (tho am not gonna try and put them into order). am also sticking to all the characters I loved this year. and gonna ramble and add gifs so cutting it here.
1. Liu Sang
The Lost Tomb Reboot/Reunion: The Sound of The Providence
I have so much love for this boy it’s not even healthy. it’s a bit funny tho bc once I started tltr, I didn’t really like him and almost forgot about him as the first season ended. he just felt so annoying and bitter in what I saw him, even if I did get that he had a Tragic BackstoryTM (I felt for him but well. tltr really made him hard to like at first). but then they brought him back in the second season with his sad puppy eyes and inability to handle his thoughts on wu xie and being all touch-starved and pitiful and whatnot and baam, I had the adoption papers ready. he’s wonderful and so strong and so smart and amazing. and liu chang as his actor has been wonderful (and he’s so pretty my god, have you seen him??)
2. Shen Wei
Guardian
never did I expect to just. fall into this hole after a year? I remember what a mess I was when I first watched guardian over a year ago, right after finishing the untamed. I was in shambles even as I knew how it would end. and now I’ve done this all again while also reading the novel and. my love for shen wei, especially bc it’s zhu yilong acting as shen wei? astronomical. I want to write poetry about him and his stupid responsibilities that he chooses to carry silently and his devotion to zhao yunlan and his love for his ppl and his didi and. I hope that one day I manage to write weilan bc I have this one idea and you can come pry it from my cold, dead fingers if it doesn’t get out there (am also super happy about the edit I made bc my god does he deserve at least that)
3. Cloud Strife
Final Fantasy VII
ok so stepping into the video games territory now. I was waiting for the remake like crazy and it was everything to me once the quarantine hit during spring. the game is so beautiful and I felt like I looked at this gorgeous boy once and was ready to give him my heart (tbh am quite sure he owned my heart before I even learned to know him). he is tragic in so many ways (I’ve only scratched the surface of all of his pain I know) and I wish I could just. hug him a lot. he is kind and cares very deeply even if he hates to show it and I love it how remake showed him also just being a human disaster (some of his scenes are just. peak comedy). I would kill for his smile (I have already cried for it a dozen)
4. Geralt of Rivia
The Witcher (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)
if there’s one grumpy, brickwall of a man I love, it’s geralt. I affectionately call him “papa wolf” while playing witcher 3 and his voice in it does things to me (I am just so fond of him ok, begone you dirty fuckers). I got introduced to him through the books and adored him in them bc he is so prickly and sarcastic and still so full of love even if he will never admit to it. he is the father figure I wish I could have in real life. (and yes, I’ve seen the tv series (or at least a couple of the first episodes) and it looks stunning but. this is my version of geralt and that’s the hill I will die on)
5. Xiaoge
Zhang Qiling, Daomu Biji (The Lost Tomb 2)
(wow finding a gif for him was a pain, apparently I gotta learn how to gif or?) ah, my dear boy who I’ve ended up just calling xiaoge bc he seems to prefer it over his real name/title/whatever zhang qiling really is. I got introduced to him through tltr where we really didn’t get to know that much about him bc he was just... there. huang junjie was absolutely stunning tho and his soft smiles made me super fond, but only in the lost tomb 2 did I really fall in love with xiaoge as a character. I was surprised tbh bc I didn’t expect it to be this drama? I had so many doubts about the cast in tlt2 but they all delivered! and I think cheng yi’s xiaoge is now my favorite bc he somehow captured that softness and the pain of him? (and we do not talk about that buxun storyline tyvm) tho now that ultimate note is on the way, I gotta say that xiao yuliang does a wonderful job as xiaoge too!
6. Wu Xie
Daomu Biji (Ultimate Note)
(sorry we have to go with a pingxie gif now but maybe it’s only fitting) tbh it’s hard to choose my favorite version of wu xie. I think all of the actors for him have done amazing job showing wu xie in different parts of his life (all of them are very distinct but still feel like the same person) but currently zheng shunxi takes the lead. I really wanted to put the reboot version of him here (bc I love that mature, relaxed and somehow very soft version of him and the angst is phenomenal and the thoughts he has about death... yeah) but I already have zhu yilong’s face here once so :’D wu xie is just one of those characters you cannot not like. he is so strong, so kind, so stubborn, so wonderfully stupid sometimes and in need of careful protection. I also adore it how smart he is and I could listen to him spew history facts for 10 hours straight (even if it was in a tomb full of blood zombies) ♥
7. Jiang Cheng
Jiang Wanyin, The Untamed
my darling boy! my beautiful angry grape! I love him beyond words. I love him in all of his raging, misunderstood, stupid, sassy, constipated, abused, tragic, bitter, big hearted glory. I could write novels about him (and I did and am still writing oh boy) and his love for ppl and his inability to show that love and his loneliness and his issues. I could also write another novel for all of his outfits etc. bc damn, what a fashion king. he is just so great. he owns my soul. he deserves happiness and in this essay I will
8. Isana Yashiro
Adolf K. Weismann, K Project
I rewatched k project this spring bc a) it’s one of my favorite animes ever (it just looks stunning with all the colors) and b) I love yashiro to bits. I remember falling in love with him when I first watched k project many years ago bc he was just so kind and bright. this time though, I ended up seeing another side of him and my god did I cry. he is... so sweet. he cares for others so deeply and is ready to sacrifice so much for them and his love for his two clansmen... yeah. I think I finally saw the tragedy of him too, all the pain and loneliness and insecurity he decides to hide behind his smile and obnoxious personality. he reminded me a lot of myself and watching him made my heart bleed in a good way
9. Qi Tiezui
Ba Ye, The Mystic Nine
(wow am going to riot for the lack of all the gifs hhh) yes, we’re continuing with the dmbj universe that sucked me in big time this year. the drama of the mystic nine wasn’t probably that earth shattering for me as it somehow got boring more than once but I did love ba ye to bits. he was just... so nice? I got it that he was somehow this “comedic relief” in the drama with all of his funny scenes and ridiculous mannerisms but I could see the brilliance of him. he is warm and smart and kind of a romantic too and he cares for all of his friends so deeply? it was also sweet how protective of him his two zhangs were (does that run in the family? the tendency to imprint into one smart but disastrous man and keep him safe? maybe) and I really hope I knew more about him bc he seemed to have a lot of knowledge and a lot of impact to ppl’s lives (I yelled when they mentioned him in ultimate note, I miss him ;;)
10. Dorian Pavus
Dragon Age Inquisition
(yes I’ve been replaying DA:I this year, this counts!) another darling boy! my lovely sass master son! I have so much love for him and his story in DA:I. he is my favorite companion (and his romance is my favorite too, probably obvious in the way am currently romancing him for the third time) and he has given me a lot of strength. the way he stands up against his father, how he’s ready to reform his homeland instead of walking away, how he’s so caring for those he sees struggling... it’s very warming and I feel like I’m safe with him. it feels a bit silly to say that but he really is that comfort character I will seek out when I just want to know am doing fine :’) (and I am so excited to see him again in DA4! probably?)
+ 11. Li Cu
Tomb of the Sea
yes I cheated a bit (with my own rules lol) to fit li cu here. I didn’t really expect to like him or tomb of the sea as much as I did once I started it? I’ve seen leo wu elsewhere before this (battle through the heavens, nirvana in fire) and his face always makes me think about a sad puppy so maybe I just grew fond over li cu instantly bc he was... so hurt? the first episode really slaps you in the face with all of it, showing him being abused, wounded, kidnapped, tortured, used and then just very, very scared and broken. he continues being that throughout the whole drama and I feel like tomb of the sea (or sand sea or sha hai idk) is the darkest and angstiest story in the dmbj universe. I know it deserves to be bc this is a dark time for wu xie but... my darling li cu. I wish him only happiness ;; he was so strong and smart and wonderful in this and it was just so amazing to watch him grow and find his own place in the world just bc he did something himself (even when he got dragged into all of this bc of wu xie) also I support the wu xie adopts li cu -agenda
Honorary mentions:
Zhang Rishan, Xie Yuchen and Hei Xiazi from DMBJ universe. The Twin Jades of Gusu and Ouyang Zizhen from The Untamed. The Iron Bull and Fenris from Dragon Age games. Thane Krios, Kaidan Alenko and Jaal from Mass Effect games. The whole lot of Assassin’s Creed protagonists (especially Ezio Auditore and Shay Cormac). Adam Parrish and Ronan Lynch from The Raven Cycle. Neil Josten from All For The Game. Eduon and March from The Smoke Thieves. Qiling from L.O.R.D. Critical World. Luo Fei from Detective L (played by Bai Yu).
well, with this I can really see that I have a thing for those who are tragic :’D I have a thing for grumpy, prickly and antisocial guys or those who hide their pain behind a smile. maybe it’s bc I am somehow both, even if I can’t show my anger or be mean to others and even if I feel like my smile never sticks either. I just find kinship in all of the characters who are on this list. and I feel like I aspire to be as strong and as kind and as loving despite all the pain I’ve been put through.
thank you, this was so much fun! and sorry I made this so long and so complicated ^^’ but well, there are just way too many male characters I love haha
at the end I want to tag @i-am-just-a-kiddo @ashenwren @kholran @tiesanjiao @lan-xichens @aheartfullofjolllly @manhasetardis and @lzswy ♥ feel free to do this in your own way or not at all! and thank you if you managed to read through my rambling :’D
#tag game#wow this was something#i've been waiting for one#bc there is so much love in me#and this year i've discovered so many#new characters to just gush over#about me#random#edit: added a few characters#and tagged some more ppl sorry#also mobile tumblr wouldnt let me edit so lol

Come Home to My Heart, Chapter 8 (Lemyanka) - Plastiquedoll
read on ao3 ✨| previous chapters
A/N: wow… I can’t believe there are only two chapters left after this one… that’s crazy. This little story is my baby now so I hope you enjoy it and thanks for reading it! <3
-8-
“Ouch!” Scarlett yelled as soon as Priyanka pinched her arm. “What was that for?”
“You’re friends with Lemon on Facebook? What the fuck?”
“Ah, yeah…” She rubbed her arm. “She befriended me a while ago.”
“Why didn’t you tell me? We live together.”
“I didn’t believe you’d mind and I thought she would add you too. I don’t know, I probably was high as fuck.” Scarlett sipped her Frappuccino.
“You, Kiara, and my mother back-stabbed me. I can’t believe it.”
“If it’s any consolation, she only posts pictures with her friends and when she’s at the dance studio… also, she spends an unhealthy amount of time rambling about The Sims.”
Seemed about right.
“I’m more worried about the pictures I appear as «tagged» on your page.”
“Yeah, you’re like a hot mess there.”
Priyanka and Scarlett went for a beverage that afternoon after stopping by the mechanical workshop to check on Priyanka’s car –it was still uncertain and the mechanic had ordered a few pieces that were supposed to arrive later that week- luckily her parents had lent her the family car for the afternoon.
Priyanka had ordered a strawberry smoothie but almost forgot about it. Her thoughts were somewhere else.
“Priyanka, are you there?” Scarlett called her.
“Yeah, sorry…”
“Girl, you’re like… gone.”
“What do you mean?”
“Uhm…”
Scarlett sat with her arms crossed and a smirk on her face. She had cut her hair recently and the tips of her blonde bob were perfectly symmetric, it was almost in discordance with her rock-star-punk-grunge aesthetic of ripped fishnets, piercings, and leather jackets but Priyanka knew her better, she was just a softie who had cried with The Little Mermaid.
Goddammit. Don’t you see the subtext of female liberation, Priyanka? She had said with tears in her eyes.
“Nothing… only that you’ve been distracted lately. How weird is it that this behavior coincides with the return of certain someone to your life? Odd, isn’t it?”
“Cut the sarcasm… I know what you’re implying. Lemon helped me out the other day only because that’s what any person would’ve done.”
“No, you’re overestimating human kindness. Trust me, spending your entire afternoon with someone to help them with their… how did she call it?”
“Jalopy.”
“I mean, accurate.” Priyanka stuck her tongue out. “What I’m saying is that’s a big gesture and you should take it as a white flag from her.”
“When you’re right, you’re right.”
“So… what are you going to do now?” Scarlett inquired.
“I have no idea… You’re the second person who said something like that. Denali thought she was provoking me the other night in the club –she’s out of her mind- but she also said that I should make the next move.”
“I agree.”
“But what if I make a fool of myself in the process?”
“That wouldn’t be a novelty.”
“Fuck you.”
Scarlett lighted up a cigarette.
Right at that moment, Boa walked out of the café with an Iced Americano in her hand, she spotted both girls sitting outside and approached them.
“Hey, you two! I was going to text you later today.” She greeted both of them.
“Hey, girl.” Scarlett waved.
“Hi, Boa! Nice to see you.” Priyanka hugged her.
“So listen, some of the girls –myself included- are planning a little day at that lake that’s like half an hour from here and since the more the merrier, maybe you’d want to join us.”
“Sounds cool. Do you have a date in mind?”
“We set Thursday but if any of you guys can’t we could change it.”
“No, I think Thursday is fine for all of us. Priyanka?”
Priyanka had her thoughts floating like a cloud.
“When you say «some of the girls»… you mean?”
“Tynomi, Kyne, me…” She began listing.
“Boa we’re looking for a name started with «L», five letters, common yellow fruit used often in the kitchen.” Priyanka elbowed Scarlett.
“Oh! Yeah… We’re trying to convince Lemon to go too. She wasn’t into the whole nature thing but…” She cleared her throat. “If we convinced some more people maybe she’d change her mind.”
“Great so we’ll be there.” Scarlett wrapped her arm around Priyanka. “Text me the details later.”
“Sure, see you on Thursday!”
“Bye…” Priyanka smiled and when the girl walked away, she immediately turned to Scarlett. “What was that?”
“«Thank you, Scarlett, you’re such a good friend» you’re very welcome, Priyanka.” She put out her cigarette. “I did what it had to be done.”
“I see… but what if Lemon doesn’t show up?”
“She will be there and even if she doesn’t we could still have a nice day on the lake or whatever. Jeez, do I need to give you a pep talk whenever we plan something?”
“We’ll need a car, I can’t borrow my parent’s car all week and you came here by bus. Can Juice drive us there?”
“Yeah about that… Juice broke up with me.”
Priyanka frowned. “I thought you guys weren’t dating.”
“We weren’t, that’s why she gave me an ultimatum.”
“And what did you tell her?”
“I said I’d think about it.”
“You’re an idiot.”
“She agrees with you, obviously.” Scarlett leaned back on the chair. “However, I never wanted to break her heart with promises I wasn’t sure I was going to fulfill. I never promised her more than what I gave and it worked for some time.”
“Until it didn’t…”
It wasn’t shocking for Priyanka, she had always known that Juice wanted more but Scarlett –being the stubborn she was- never was going to admit she felt the same way, instead, she acted reluctant whenever the idea of having a serious relationship was brought.
“Scarlett, are you sure this is what you want?”
“Listen, what’s the point of starting a relationship with someone who doesn’t live in the same city.”
“She lives literally half an hour from Toronto.”
“Besides, I don’t want to give my freedom away… I don’t see myself ready to be in a relationship and you can’t say anything, you haven’t dated anyone for more than three days.” Scarlett pointed.
“Well, you got me there but this isn’t about me… don’t you see it? You’re about to lose something real and why? Because you’re scared of admitting you want it too.”
Scarlett looked down. “She deserves better than me…” She whispered.
“You idiot, she doesn’t want better, she wants you and you alone.”
“I feel like you’re insulting me somewhere there but…”
“Scarlett, focus.”
“You’re right, okay? I’m scared, I don’t want to hurt her and I’m terrified I might be too stupid to make a mistake or something… and now I don’t know what to do, I’m not a romantic person, I know nothing about big gestures…”
“Maybe roses? Carriage rides? Singing songs under the starry sky?”
“Gross…” She paused. “maybe roses though.”
“You did set the bar very low so…”
“Oh, shut up.”
“C’mon, I’ll drop you at her house.”
After taking Scarlett back to Juice’s house for what hopefully meant there would be a reconciliation between them –Priyanka had her fingers crossed- in the meantime, she stopped by her brother’s house. She had promised one of her nieces she’d take her to rent some DVDs they would watch after dinner.
It took less than five minutes to lose her at the video store.
“Mel? Mel?!” She started looking around. “Where did you go?”
Priyanka heard her voice coming from one parallel aisle.
“You’re very pretty.”
“Aw, thank you…you’re very pretty too.”
Priyanka also recognized that voice.
“Are you lost?”
She felt undoubtedly relieved when she found her niece chatting with Lemon who had kneeled on the floor to be at the same height.
“What’s your name?” Lemon asked the little girl.
“I’m Melanie.”
“Nice to meet you, Melanie. I’m Lemon, like the fruit.”
“Nice to meet you… Miss Lemon.”
“Did you come here with your mom? With your dad?”
She shook her head. “With my auntie.”
“Ah, I see… What do you say if we look for your auntie?”
“She’s right there.” She pointed at Priyanka behind her.
Lemon turned around and met the brunette’s eyes.
“Oh. It’s you, auntie… I should’ve guessed.”
“The resemblance is uncanny, isn’t it?” Priyanka smiled proudly.
Lemon was wearing a yellow and white striped long dress with buttons in the front, white sneakers, and had her hair tied in a French braid.
“You really convinced your brother to name his daughter like two-fifths of the Spice Girls, didn’t you?”
Priyanka rushed and covered her niece’s ears. “Shhhh… He doesn’t know that yet. It took me seven of the nine months of my sister-in-law’s pregnancy to plant the idea… neither Ginger nor Emma were working, so it was down to Melanie or Victoria.”
Lemon chuckled.
The brunette released the little girl from her grip. “Mel, go pick the movie you like but stay close where I can see you, alright?”
The little girl nodded and skipped with joy toward the kids’ movie section.
Priyanka looked at Lemon. “What are you doing here?”
“Getting my nails done, obviously.” She had a DVD box in her hands.
Priyanka rolled her eyes. “Knowing you, it must be… let me see, either Legally Blonde, Clueless, something with Meg Ryan on it, or… Drop Dead Gorgeous.”
She showed the title on the box. It was Drop Dead Gorgeous, a movie Lemon worshiped for her love for beauty pageants and bizarre humor.
“Rita has never watched it, can you believe it?”
“And you’re looking for new ways to traumatize her.”
“That might be my mission on Earth all along, spread the words of wisdom that come from this film.” She tapped the box with her acrylic nails.
Priyanka peeped over her shoulder to check on her niece who was still deciding between two Disney movies.
“So… are you going to the lake thing Boa’s planning?” The brunette asked as casually as she could.
Lemon shrugged. “I don’t know. I’m not that into nature and being eaten by bugs…”
“Oh, so she’s a city girl now.”
“Listen, I spent a good ten years of my life going camping with my dad and hating every second of it. I thought it was finally over when I moved.”
“The girls and I are going… and I’m sure we’re taking some type of booze with us, snacks, a campfire… It will be fun.”
Lemon tilted her head. “I didn’t know you wanted me to go.”
Priyanka felt the heat on her cheeks. “Boa said the more the merrier… plus my car is still at the workshop and Scarlett might have screwed up her relationship with the one person that has a car among us.”
“So you need a ride… that’s it?”
“Yeah… and it’ll be fun being all together again.”
“Sure… okay. I’ll tell Rita and we’ll be there.”
“Really?”
She nodded.
At that moment, Priyanka’s niece returned with a DVD of Brave in her hand.
“Are you dating my auntie Pri?” She asked unscrupulous and unfiltered like any six-year-old.
Priyanka’s mouth dropped to the floor.
“Mel! You can’t ask people… That’s not… You don’t get to…”
“But daddy said that you like girls and that if you were going to date someone it would be a girl… and she’s a girl.”
Logic.
Lemon covered her mouth with her hand, she was blushing underneath.
“Mel just because I’m talking to a girl it doesn’t mean that I’m dating her.”
“But she’s pretty… she’s prettier than you.”
“Oh, I like her.” Lemon giggled.
“Hey! You little brat, who’s the one renting movies with you.”
Traitors.
“Why aren’t you dating her, auntie Pri?” Priyanka covered the girl’s mouth.
She was asking the real questions.
“Okay, I think it’s time to go home. Brave, huh? Good choice.” She looked at Lemon. “See you on Thursday…?”
The blonde smiled. “I’ll pick you up.”
“Okay, great.”
“Goodbye, Priyanka. Bye, Mel.” She waved at them.
The girl barely had the chance to wave back since her aunt dragged her to the line of the checkout counter. She stared at Priyanka with her wide brown eyes.
“What is it?”
“You like her.” Mel said with a mischievous look on her face.
“Shhh… keep it low…” She looked around to check Lemon wasn’t around. “You can’t just say those things, Mel. Exposing people’s feelings isn’t right.”
“So you like her.”
“Jeez, calm down Regina George.”
“Who’s Regina Gorge?”
“It doesn’t matter… The thing is… Lemon and I are… friends? Just that, okay? We’ve known each other since we were your age and I don’t think she likes me that way.”
“Have you asked her?” Her niece inquired.
“Well, no…”
“Why not?”
“Because…” She was scared of the potential answer to that question. “It’s complicated… growing up is complicated.”
“I don’t want to grow up never.” She whined.
“Me neither.”
Priyanka took the DVD to register it and pay for it.
Brave, sure.
On Thursday morning, Priyanka received a call from Scarlett, she explained that things with Juice were smooth sailing and that –since they had left the problems aside- she was going to pick her at home. In the car, there were Juice, Scarlett, Kiara, Denali, and Priyanka whereas Lemon and Rita had relocated in a different car.
The day started on the wrong foot since that change in scheduling but Priyanka had the hope it could only get better from there. She had a full breakfast with her parents and then prepared her things in a backpack, including sunscreen, snacks, a towel, and things only her mom could remember to include –and that she yelled from downstairs to make sure Priyanka would remember.
Priyanka brushed her hair and tied it into a ponytail, then she put her turquoise bikini on –she liked how the color looked against her skin-, grabbed a pair of denim shorts with embroidered flowers and a white cotton tank top. She found a pair of aviator sunglasses on the drawer of her room that were definitely her sister’s –emphasis on the «were»- and with a pair of flip-flops, she was ready.
Boa had said that it was allowed to swim on the lake where the water was shallow and that there was a lifeguard just in case. The weather was in their favor, the day was all warm and sunny even when it started with a couple of clouds, it had cleared up since then. Her mother reminded her to take a light jacket with her because it could get colder during the evening.
Priyanka was about to argue with her when she heard the sound of the horn outside. She put the jacket on her backpack and said goodbye to her mom before opening the entrance door.
To her surprise, there was an egg yolk car parked in front of her house.
Lemon rolled down her window. “Get in loser, we’re going to a lake… for some reason.”
She had a pair of heart-shaped pink sunglasses resting on top of her head and a lollipop on her hand.
“What is this?”
“I told you I was going to pick you up.” She unlocked the passenger’s door.
Priyanka got in the car and buckled up. Her entire body was tingling.
“I thought you were sharing a car with the other girls.”
“Don’t change the plans I’ve already set, I’m a Virgo.”
“Don’t you have a bumper sticker with that written on it?”
“I’m glad someone has finally seen it.”
Priyanka threw her backpack on the backseat and noticed how empty it was.
“Wait, what about Rita? Wasn’t she coming with you?”
Lemon got the car moving.
“No, I pushed her down the stairs yesterday.” She said, dead serious. “I’m just kidding; I went to pick some things from Tynomi’s place, Kiara and she were speaking in French and got along well so she decided to go with them. Because of that, I have the trunk full with two coolers and their bags so –for their own good- I hope they gave me the right address.”
Just then it hit Priyanka it was just the two of them for the next half hour.
Lemon looked lovely with a yellow poplin puff-sleeve crop top with little lemons embroidered around the neckline and a pair of navy paper bag shorts. The strips of a bright yellow swimsuit could be seen underneath her clothes and she was driving with sneakers because driving with flip-flops is hell but overall the look screamed summer in the Italian Riviera with a glass of limoncello.
And well, Priyanka was gay and thirsty.
“Did you hear what I said?” Lemon asked raising an eyebrow when they stopped in a red traffic light.
“Something about music…?” It was a wild guess and she would be lying if she said her fingers weren’t crossed.
“Yes, can you put something on the radio?”
Priyanka scanned the CDs on the glove compartment and finally decided for the always great Good Girl Gone Bad –just because she wanted Shut Up and Drive to play while Lemon was driving- and because it had some iconic bops.
“Are you certain about the route we’re taking?” The brunette asked.
“What do you mean?” Lemon clicked her tongue. “I know how to follow directions. I also have a map… I’m a strong independent woman who needs no instruction on how to get to a stupid lake in the middle of nowhere-”
“Hello, my friend and I are lost; do you know which is the best way to get to the lake?” Priyanka had to pat herself on the back for that level of fake kindness, she even batted her lashes.
Lemon, on the driver’s seat, kept grumbling something in a low voice.
“Yeah, you’re almost there, it’s five minutes from here… you have to take the next entry to the left and then continue straight forward. You’ll be there in the blink of an eye.”
“Thanks, good man. We appreciate it.” She waved at the man at the gas station. Then she turned to Lemon. “You see? It wasn’t that difficult.”
“We were almost there.”
“Yes, except for the fact that we’ve been driving around in circles for the past fifteen minutes. I told you it was the right entry.”
Lemon huffed and puffed like a child.
Priyanka attempted to skip one of the songs but the blonde interfered by pushing her hand aside. Priyanka crossed her arms on her chest and pretended to be offended.
Just like the man had said, in no time they spotted the lake entrance.
Lemon sighed of relief while Priyanka cheered.
“Yay! We made it!”
Once they got closer, they agreed it was all worthy. The beautiful scenery of the lake with crystalline blue water framed by the rows of mountains covered in green and leafy pine trees left them in awe.
A figure waved at them –probably one of the girls- they were gathered in a small semicircle that resembled a beach with dirt and gravel next to a wooden port. There were other people around, families, some kids playing in the water, swimmers, boats, and canoes.
Lemon parked the car in an empty spot among others, some of the girls helped them with the coolers and the bags that were on the truck.
“Good night, ladies.” Scarlett mocked.
“You two finally made it.” Boa grabbed one of the coolers with the other girl’s help.
Priyanka was about to say something about their delay in the same joking tone but she caught a glimpse of Lemon, she was serious, noticeably embarrassed by the situation. So instead, she cackled and played it down.
“Yeah, can you believe I told her the wrong entry on the highway? Lemon almost killed me we were spinning around for like fifteen minutes, right?” She looked at the blonde and subtly winked.
“Ah, yeah…” Lemon’s eyes were big just like a deer caught in headlights, the tips of her ears turned red just like her cheeks. “But we’re here… so… it doesn’t matter.”
“Priyanka you dumbass, we’ve come this way before.” Scarlett nagged her.
“Oh, shut up… I forgot.” She picked her backpack and threw it over her shoulder. Lemon hadn’t moved. “Hey, let’s go. We have all day ahead.”
The blonde nodded and locked the car before following them to the port.
The view was even more breathtaking up close as the sunlight shone onto the waters of the lake, it also glinted on the gold rims of Priyanka’s glasses and bathed her completely in a warm sensation.
They were received with cheers –especially since they have the food on the coolers and it was almost noon-, she saw Kiara applying some suntan oil and chatting with Rita and Starzy over a small wooden harbor, as soon as Scarlett and Boa arrived with the cooler, the blonde started an argument with Ilona over the best way to ensemble a tent –and repeatedly called each other “sis”-, Kyne, Tynomi and Juice ignored them and started setting a grill.
“You didn’t have to lie to cover my blunder.” Lemon whispered.
“I know.” Priyanka stretched her arms. “I figured you’ve suffered enough for one morning. If you’re feeling generous you can get me a drink or something in return.”
Lemon scoffed. “Get it yourself.” She started walking to where Rita, Starzy, and Kiara were but before she was further in distance, she turned around. “Thank you, though.”
Priyanka smiled at her and then went to help the other girls with the food. They entrusted her washing the vegetables at some gazebo nearby with a little kitchen and a sink. Tynomi helped her peeling and cutting once she was done and then they prepared the skewers. Scarlett’s pyromania was helpful to light the fire, although the flame that rose in the air caused quite a fuss.
Right when Priyanka put the last skewer on the trade for Tynomi to take it to the grill, a paper cup with pink lemonade and ice appeared in front of her, Lemon held it steadily.
“Oh, hey there.” Priyanka took a sip, it was sweet and it had something that kicked in. “Thank goodness this has alcohol on it.”
“It’s vodka, careful with the empty stomach, though.”
“Signature cocktail?”
Lemon shrugged. “I guess it falls into the category of colorful and sugary.”
“I don’t know if it’s because it’s hot as fuck but this is actually delicious.”
“Of course it’s delicious, I made it.”
“That’s obvious; you can taste the modesty on it.” Lemon made a childish grimace. “Have you jumped in the water yet?”
“I just soaked my feet for a little.”
“And?”
“Cold like a penguin’s butt.”
“You’re exaggerating.”
Lemon took the cup back and drank a sip, her lip gloss stained the material. She kept biting her bottom lip as if she wanted to say something but she sneaked out to help Boa with something when Priyanka wasn’t looking.
In that part of the lake it was allowed to camp and there were several tents set around the land, there were also a couple of forest rangers roaming around –probably attracted by the fake fire alarm- but the girls had been clever enough to keep the bottles saved in the coolers. They all ate vegetable skewers and hamburgers sitting in a big circle and drank beer and cranberry vodka in paper cups.
Someone had brought a radio and they all sang Stars Are Blind when it played. After having lunch they stayed there reminiscing and telling stories from school. They were all laughing and cracking jokes it took Priyanka by surprise when the story of her seven minutes in heaven was brought.
“More like seven minutes in hell.” She gagged.
She re-told the story for those who hadn’t heard it and then realized that Lemon was among those people. The blonde hadn’t said a word since she started her narration, in fact, she paid attention to every word that came out of her mouth. She didn’t laugh when Priyanka tried to minimize she kissed a guy she didn’t want to kiss or when she tried to use the humor as a shield as she had done before.
“What an asshole.” She said when the brunette finished the story. She was angry and it showed. She was so mad she had sobered up.
“Yeah… but on the bright side… that helped me realize things. It was enlightening, I dare to say… even when that closet was dark as fuck.”
“Still… I hope he chokes or something.” Lemon was fuming.
Later on, Ilona exposed Scarlett who had claimed to be in detention many times in high school when she was just in the library, studying. Even when she tried to argue, Priyanka caught her friend sitting right next to Juice as she tenderly held her and stroked her hand with her thumb. She assumed things were alright with them now and couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous of what they had.
Vodka, it’s me… I have seen what you did for others…
Lemon told a story about one time she got lost in the subway with their friends and they almost ended in Staten Island –Priyanka refrained from commenting on the fact that Lemon wasn’t good at following indications, indeed- and Denali, the only non-Canadian of their panel discussion mentioned it had happened to her as well.
“I’ll be in New York for a competition in a few months.”
“You should come to visit me.” Lemon smiled brightly.
“That would be fun… Priyanka could come as well.” She stared at the brunette who gaped at her in surprise. “And tell me, do you have any single friend?”
“I’ve got some… yeah. I could make some arrangements.”
“I’d love that.”
“Slut-Nali.”
“Proudly.”
Later during the afternoon, some of the girls were brave enough to try to dive in the shallow waters of the lake, Priyanka among them, and, she regretted the moment her body made contact with the glistening surface but once her body was fully immersed it was like a shot of adrenaline in her body.
She surely looked like she had seen a ghost when she emerged because Lemon laughed loudly at her. The blonde was cozily sunbathing on the shoreline at an unsafe distance for someone mocking the swimmers.
Priyanka moved her arms toward her.
“Don’t you dare… Priyanka, I swear to God if you even try-”
The cold droplets touched her skin before she could finish that sentence.
The blonde squirmed and squealed.
“Bitch…” She shook the water off her body.
“Who’s laughing now?” She moved like a fish in the water.
“You won’t be laughing when you need your towel to get out.” Lemon waved it like a flag.
“Listen, you…” Priyanka started walking out of the water, the other girl was already running.
It was way colder out of the water and it took the brunette a minute to get used to, get her flip flops, and chase after Lemon who still had her towel on her hands. She hid behind Rita and stuck her tongue out, the girl caught in the middle raised her hands in a sign of rendition. They were like a couple of kids. Priyanka was about to say something when Scarlett and Juice came near them.
“Hey, we rented a boat over there and we were wondering if you would like to come with us.” Juice grinned.
“I pass, I’m not going on a boat ride with these two.” Rita pointed at them, Lemon was still looking over her shoulder.
“Pri, Lemon? What about you?”
“Sure… it would be fun, as soon as this bitch gives me my towel back.” Priyanka cast an accusing glance at the blonde.
Lemon threw the towel directly to her face.
“What’s so thrilling about a boat ride?” She asked while Priyanka wrapped herself in the towel.
“You said the same about coming here today and yet you’re having a good time, right?” Lemon shrugged. “C’mon, I’m not going to push you in the water or something.”
“Now I know for a fact that you’ll try to push me into the water.”
“Are you possibly scared?” She taunted.
“I’m not scared of a boat if that’s what you’re saying.”
“It’s settled then, we’ll meet you in five minutes over the pier where the boats are moored.” Scarlett grabbed Juice’s hand and they walked away.
Priyanka put her shorts and sunglasses on; she grabbed her bag and hung it over her shoulder. She checked on Lemon when she was done putting clothes on too.
“Ready?”
The blonde hesitated for a moment. “I guess.”
“Listen, there’s really nothing to be scared of, we’ll get life jackets and everything.”
“That’s not- Never mind.” She shook her head and grabbed her things. “Let’s go.”
Juice and Scarlett were already waiting for them with their life jackets on, they explained to the girls how to put them on.
“You two get in the boat and we’ll untie the knots and push it in the water.” Scarlett indicated.
The boat was made of wood and painted in white with matching paddles, the name Perseverance was written in blue on one of the sides.
Lemon sat first and she helped Priyanka to get in.
“Did you know it’s bad luck to change a boat’s name?” She told Priyanka. “It’s said they always sink if you do.”
“We should double-check this isn’t repainted or something underneath, right?”
“Why? Are you scared?” Lemon mocked.
Priyanka elbowed her.
Juice was done with the knot and she jumped in the water to help Scarlett.
“Okay, one, two… three.” They pushed the boat that swayed a little with the waves before stabilizing.
“Have fun you two!” Juice waved at them.
“Wait…” It took Priyanka a moment before understanding what was going on. “Hey!”
“Oh my God…”
The girls behind were cackling as the boat was carried further by the water stream.
“I think we’ve been set up.”
“There might be a chance, yeah.”
Scarlett mouthed a soft «Sorry» but Priyanka knew she wasn’t regretting anything. This had to be planned beforehand and she had a vague idea what the point was. She stared at Lemon who had picked up one of the paddles and was examining it.
“Do you think we can go back?”
“I doubt that we can row against this current.” She declared after taking a look at how the water kept taking them away from the coast. “Our best chance is to let it drag us down to calmer waters where we can paddle from to the closest coast.”
“You really learned a few scout things when you were camping with your dad, didn’t you?”
“Aren’t you glad I did?” She smirked.
Certainly, Priyanka was glad because at least one of them had a clue of what to do and how to get them out of that situation but, at the same time, it meant that they were going to be stuck for a while in that boat.
As they started moving away from the coast, the silhouettes of his friends became blurry and they were surrounded by the vast scenery of the mountains and the woods. The sun was lukewarm and the little waves rocked the boat like a cradle, it was soothing.
Priyanka laid on the floorboards and looked at the clouds crossing the sky. Lemon watched the water around the boat to eventually join the brunette.
“This is nice,” Priyanka whispered. “I think it’s the longest we’ve been without arguing or bitching.”
Lemon chuckled. Priyanka looked at her and could see every detail of her face, the curve of her lips the little mole over them, the tip of her nose, the length of her lashes, the color of her eyes…
Suddenly she felt shy.
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that I can be an annoying bitch sometimes but you’re the one person that’s always there for me…” Lemon murmured.
Priyanka’s cheeks turned red. “What?”
“That’s the first line of the last e-mail I wrote for you after we… drifted apart.”
“I never received it.”
“I never sent it.” She fidgeted nervously. “I don’t know if it would have made any difference, you seemed pretty determined to me.”
So they were going to talk about it. It was the conversation neither of them had brought up for the longest time but it was there, lingering in the air like a dark cloud of unsolved problems.
“I needed to put some distance between us…” Priyanka felt the unavoidable knot on her throat like whenever someone touched the subject. “I wasn’t being honest with you… I was scared. You had these plans that didn’t include me in your future, I felt like I was being left out while my plans always included you.”
“Priyanka, I had to move forward to survive… Yes, I met new people, I made new friends and I set new goals but you were never out of the picture. It was difficult for me because I don’t know, you were always the one that everyone liked instantly and you made friends in a heartbeat without even trying it. Your friends were our friends because of that but when I was on my own… I feel like I’m more an acquired taste, people tend to like me better when they know me but until then…”
She sighed.
“I had these problems that seemed small in proportion and I didn’t want to become a burden for you, being so far away from each other. I just wanted to share the good parts. You were the only thing in my life that felt like a constant and then… you were gone.”
She looked at Lemon in the eyes. “I’m sorry. I don’t think I’ve ever apologized for that. And just for the record, small problems, big problems… I should’ve been there for you no matter what. Back in the day, I don’t know… it’s not an excuse but I felt like it was easier to push you away and that you got to live a life without me at some point.”
“Why?” Lemon frowned.
“I don’t know.” Priyanka lied. “I didn’t want to be a burden either.”
“I’m sorry, too. I didn’t know what to expect when I saw you here but, these last couple of days I realized how much I had missed you. I wrote that in the e-mail too, I wish I had sent it.”
Priyanka’s heart skipped a beat.
“Me too.” The brunette spoke clearly. “I’m freaking proud of you and everything you’ve achieved… What I’ve heard because I didn’t befriend your New York friends on Facebook to find out.”
“They were my friends too. I didn’t add them only to stalk you or something like that. And, for what it’s worth, I think you’re doing amazing too… aside from that car of yours.”
“Laugh all you want but I bought that car to go visit you in New York someday.”
Lemon sat straight on the boat. “You were going to drive all the way there in that to visit me? That counts as risking your life, you know?”
“Well… yeah… that was the idea. I wanted to see you.” Priyanka sat down as well.
“Pri…”
“And you only came back for your dad’s wedding… why did you come back now? After so long?”
“My dad’s wedding was… an event. It would’ve been fun to have you there though, there was so much booze.”
“They can always renew their vows.”
Lemon laughed. “Well, and as I told you before, my mom was going on a cruise ship so I wanted to visit everyone here. The fact that it coincided with your visit was mind-blowing for me too.”
“Were you mad?”
“Yes, I was fuming.”
They both started laughing at loud.
“I’m not going to lie I did want to start a fight that day in the dining… and later on the club… and on the cereal aisle…”
Priyanka threw water from the lake at the girl’s face.
“Hey! Don’t!” Lemon shook her head. “I think it got on my eyes wait…”
“Oh no, sorry… I didn’t mean to…”
Priyanka got closer but at that moment the other girl counterattacked with some more water.
“Bitch…”
“You deserved it.” She cleaned some drops. “But I think it really got on my eyes, can you hand me my bag.”
Priyanka’s face was still wet but she did as she asked.
“Shit, my contact lenses are falling.” She looked through her bag until she found the container.
“Do you need help with that?”
“No, just a second…” She removed both contact lenses and saved them back. “Better.”
“I’m over here.” Priyanka mocked.
“Fine… I can’t see beyond my hand.”
“I know that.”
“Could you get me my glasses? They are there, somewhere…”
“Yeah, let me…”
Lemon’s bag had lip gloss, sunscreen, candy… transparent frame glasses.
“Here.” She put them in her hand.
“Don’t make fun of me.” She mumbled. “I never wear these in public…”
“Lemon, I’ve known you for ages I do remember how you look like with glasses on.”
Priyanka took them back and opened the temples before placing them gently on the blonde’s face. She adjusted the nose pads above her nose and removed some hairs out of her face.
“There,” She looked proud of her work. “See, nothing less than stunning.”
Lemon had a beaming smile on her face, she’d never look bad with or without glasses on.
She didn’t realize how close they were until Lemon batted her lashes. She could’ve kissed her right there but instead, she just moved away with her pulse running wild and her face feeling hot and no sunshine to blame for it.
The blonde extended her little finger as a white flag. “Are we good?”
Priyanka sighed with relief. “Best friends forever.” She sealed the pinky promise.
However, the word «friends» tasted bitter on her tongue.
“That’s right.” She was still holding their fingers together. “Priyanka and Lemon, Lemon and Priyanka.”
“You won’t happen to have something to eat in that bag of yours, will you?”
“I think I packed some Oreos this morning.”
“You’re my hero.”
It was almost sunset by the time they got back to the coast and they still had to border the lake to get back where the other girls were. Nonetheless, the setting of the sun was a spectacle they watched in awe as the daytime ended with the sun’s departure.
It was starting to get cold and Priyanka was the only one who had brought a jacket so she lent it to Lemon –it looked a bit oversized but she still looked good on it.
They walked for a little before meeting the rest of the group, luckily the place was fully enlightened and they had made sure they hadn’t gone too far to lose sight of the camping area. The other girls welcomed them back with a big cheer, some of them were already setting a little fire to toast marshmallows and sing songs with a guitar.
“I’m going to the bathroom.” Lemon headed to the public toilet while Priyanka joined the circle around the bonfire.
“So…” Denali sat next to her right away. “How did that go?”
“You knew.” Priyanka crossed her arms on her chest. “I can’t believe it, y’all helped to orchestrate this stunt.”
“…maybe. But it was for a good cause.”
“Which one?”
“Getting you a girlfriend.”
Priyanka rolled her eyes.
“I swear…”
“What happened over there?” Scarlett, Kiara, and Juice surrounded her like a group of teenagers.
“She doesn’t want to spill the details.”
“That’s because nothing happened and you should mind your own business.”
“What do you mean nothing happened? You two were there for like two hours.”
“We did talk about why we first fought and other things but it’s nothing close to what you think so you should drop it. I’m being serious right now.” She cleared her throat. “Lemon and I are friends… that’s it. Don’t try to push it further because it’s not going to happen.”
It was clear at that point that fixing their friendship was more important than risking her feelings; maybe she could tell Lemon one day and they could laugh about it just like they had done earlier but, at that moment, things were very recent and fragile to drop any more information into the mix. Priyanka wanted to have her on her life and she wasn’t going to lose her best friend over some unrequited love she had.
If she had dealt with it most of her life, she surely could do it again.
The girls protested but they sat back in their places. Lemon joined them shortly after, she sat next to Priyanka, the sleeves of her jacket looked like sweater paws on her.
“Hey, do you mind going back with the girls? I was talking to Rita and she’s kind of tired so I’m going home with her.”
“Oh, sure. No problem. Is she alright?”
“Yeah, just tired and maybe sunburn. I don’t want to drive when it’s too late either.”
“Alright. Are you still coming to dinner with my family? My mom said she’ll be waiting for you.”
“Saturday, right? I’ll be there.” She smiled. “I’m really glad we got to talk today, Pri.”
“Me too.”
She hugged her Lemon before she left; the blonde then greeted everyone else.
Priyanka watched in silence as the yellow car left the park.
Her heart shrunk, this was the right thing to do, they were friends again, and yet… she felt empty inside.

asks divisible by 5 pls
Alex! Thank you!
I’ve already answered 5, 20, and 25, so I’ll just answer 10 and 15 here.
10. How would you describe your writing process?
- I have an idea
- I am suddently incredibly motivated and need to put my thoughts down on (metaphorical) paper
- This is usually in the form of an outline first, which consists of vague scene descriptions
- Then I start writing the scenes, almost always in the order I want them to appear in the fic, because I like to do things chronologically rather than skipping around
- Re-read everything when it’s done and do a bit of editing and fixing typos but not usually any major changes
- Panic when I finish and want to post it but realize I forgot that titles and summaries are necessary
- Look up lyrics to some of the songs I’ve been listening to recently to try to find a title that sort of works, and also try to write something vaguely resembling a summary
- Post the fic without it having been beta read because I have no patience and crave validation via kudos and comments
15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?
SUMMARIES ARE SO MUCH HARDER WOW. Titles are difficult but I usually just go with lyrics and I usually end up happy with my choices even though it takes me a lot of time, but I’m almost never happy with my fic summaries. I hate writing them. Tags are easy, though.
20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
PSYCH I said I was only going to be answering 10 and 15 because I already answered the others but I THOUGHT OF SOMETHING I WANT TO SAY HERE.
Last year I wrote a fic called I Don’t Want To Forget How Your Voice Sounds. It features blind!Kurt, and I’m really happy with the way that I wrote this fic. I tried really hard to make it a Klaine fic and oh also Kurt just so happens to be blind as opposed to a fic about Kurt being blind; and I’m quite confident I’ve succeeded, because I’ve gotten several pleasantly surprised comments to that effect. I think it reads pretty much like a sweet Klaine meet-cute, and I just slipped in elements of Kurt being blind, but they didn’t really have an effect on the story at all. I’m not sure if this counts as meta, but I think it does, and I wanted to talk about it, and this is my blog so I do what I want.

Imagine (4)
Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) Masterlist
Series Masterlist
| Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | A/N: I forgot about this series, and in all honesty, this series is complicated.
Tomorrow came faster than you thought it would. Groggily, you got up and made your way into the kitchen for a cup of coffee. After throwing your hair into a messy bun. You straightened your sweatshirt and sweatpants and started scrolling your phone.
Your eyes widened when you saw pictures of you and Carol eating dinner and lunch together. Scrolling down the article, you saw that the journalist thought you were dating Carol. You needed to get to work on this, you swiped to look at related articles and tweets.
More people knew about this than you had thought, the pictures were all over Twitter, Instagram, and every other pop culture news website. Muttering curses, you picked up your coffee and started to make your way to your room. Absentmindedly choosing an outfit for the day in your head.
“Something wrong?” Tony asked, making his way into the kitchen when he noticed you muttering curses and scrolling on your phone.
“Oh, just the news blowing up.” You showed Tony your phone and sipped your coffee. His eyes widened at the pictures and continued scrolling.
“Wow, are you two going out?” He asked you shrugged.
“It’s complicated.” You muttered, he raised an eyebrow.
“She’s not like the other girls you date.” He warned you nodded knowingly.
“Don’t do anything you’re going to regret,” Tony stated, you nodded and grinned lopsidedly.
“I know what I’m doing.” You winked at him.
“I hope so.” He muttered, walking off.
You sighed and made your way into your room. Picking out an outfit was one of the best parts of your day, you threw on a pair of black trousers, a velvet black blazer, and a white shirt. You quickly paired it with killer black heels, silver makeup, and gunmetal and black aviators.
After you finished getting ready, you sprayed some perfume and walked outside. Scrolling on your phone and arranging appointments with Pepper to deal with the news. You didn’t notice Carol walking in front of you and you accidentally ran into her.
“Shit,” You muttered, aviators, falling from your hair to your neck.
You scowled at whoever caused you to stumble before noticing it was Carol. She wore an army green sports bra and grey leggings. You clenched your jaw to prevent your jaw from dropping at the way she looked.
Carol opened her mouth to apologize but hesitated when she saw your outfit. You looked incredibly sharp in the blazer, the tight fit pants looked gorgeous on you, the blouse was loose but just tight enough to show off your curves. She gulped before noticing her staring.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you there,” She lied smoothly. The blonde had intended to run into you to arrange lunch.
“It’s okay, I’m sorry but I’m in a rush today.” You hurriedly apologized, fixing your aviators and checking your phone.
“At least I can walk you to your car.” She offered, you shrugged and started walking towards your Porsche.
“So what’s got you so stressed out?” The blonde asked, you almost groaned.
You showed her your phone with all the articles of both of you open on it. Her eyes widened as she tried to suppress a smirk. The photographer who got the pictures had done a decent job of capturing everything.
“Damn, how are you planning to deal with it?” Carol asked, handing back your phone.
“Get in touch with the news companies and ask their journalists to write something debunking this.” You answered instantly. Carol opened her mouth to speak but decided against it when you continued rambling.
“But there are too many tweets for us to just shut this down, so we might have to run with this for a while.” You continued, sighing as you reached your car.
“Thanks for walking me to my car.” You smiled and opened the door.
“Anytime,” Carol winked at you and leaned in to peck your cheek, breath fanning across the shell of your ear as she pulled away. Goosebumps traveled along your neck, she smiled and walked away. suppressing a blush and started up your car.
It didn’t start.
You muttered curses and got out of your car and called Carol over. She turned around, suppressing a smirk.
“What’s wrong?” The blonde asked, walking over to you. You gestured to your car.
“The one time I need it to work, it refuses to.”
Carol laughed and popped open the hood, noticing the detached spark plugs. She faked a frown and pretended she wasn’t the one responsible for it. She quickly attached them and made sure nothing else was wrong.
“Nothing seems wrong, maybe get it checked out later?” Carol shrugged, closing the hood. She smirked when she noticed your staring.
“I will, but I still need to get to work today.” You groaned, trying to start up the Porsche again but to no avail.
“I can drive you.” She gestured to her 1977 Ford Mustang. You raised an eyebrow.
“It drives better than it looks, trust me.” Carol winked and offered you her hand. You sighed and took her hand, noticing how she linked her fingers with yours while leading you to the car.
The Mustang was black with bright red interiors, you slid into the passenger seat, admiring the leather. Carol sat in the driver’s seat and plugged in the aux.
“Tony helped me upgrade the stereo,” Carol answered your questioning gaze.
You shrugged and leaned back in the seat. Carol started up the car and drove it towards Pepper’s office where she assumed you would be heading. She let you pick the music, you played your playlist. Carol complimented the music and rested one hand on your thigh as she drove.
The entire drive she flirted with you, offering compliments and comments whenever she could. But she made sure the comments never made you uncomfortable. When you reached, she invited you to the party Tony was having to settle down rumors about the Avengers working with HYDRA. Both of you knew he didn’t need to throw a party for it, but Tony preferred to be dramatic.
Carol threw on a shirt she kept in the backseat of the bronco and followed you into your work. Even though Carol is underdressed compared to everyone else at your work, she exuberates confidence and power as she walked.
You kissed her cheek as a form of goodbye with a promise to meet her later for the party. Pepper gave you a knowing smirk and invited you in to talk about it.
“I take it we aren’t debunking the rumors about both of you being together.” She stated you shrugged.
“Guess not,” You answered.
“You know this can’t be a fling if the public gets involved, it might ruin your career,” Pepper warned.
“Why do you and Tony don’t think I know what I’m doing?” You joked, Pepper chuckled and led you inside to deal with the rest of the rumors floating about.
The end of the day came quicker than you had expected, you asked Carol to pick you up. Little did you know, she had a surprise for you.

can i be basic (with you)?
read on ao3
tags: fluff, little bit of angst, mostly marichat, identity reveal, WHOOPS self indulgent
summary:
so are you feeling stupid, too?
i hope i'm not the only fool.
don't wanna run away from you.
inspired by the song "basic" by sigrid <3
___
Marinette?"
The girl finally took notice and looked at him, a spaced out expression slowly draining off of her fave and giving way to a sheepish smile.
"Oh, sorry Chat Noir, what were you saying?"
He laughed softly, shaking his head at her. "That's the fourth time tonight, you know," he teased, nudging her with his elbow gently.
She rolled her eyes, shoving him playfully in return. This was a comfortable habit by now. Once or twice a week, he would drop in on her after patrols, and she just seemed to be full of never-ending acceptance of him. Sometimes she would open the skylight before he could even knock, already climbing out with drinks or snacks for them to share. All it ever did was reaffirm for him that Marinette was the most unconditionally kind person he had ever met. It was so easy to look at her, practically glowing under the moonlight, so full of softness and life, so easy that sometimes he forgot about everything else.
"Who's the one spacing out now, huh?" She said, waving her hand in front of his eyes. He jumped back a little, turning red and then shaking his head.
His hand went to the back of his neck, rubbing at it anxiously as he tried to offer her an apologetic smile. "Sorry, Purrincess," he joked, always unable to resist the punny nickname when it came to her.
She groaned, smacking her palm into her face at the nickname. At first, she had ignored it, and even seemed a little embarrassed by it, but that was probably because he had gone just a little overboard on the charm when she had helped him with the Evillustrator. Now that they considered each other friends for real though, she didn't hide her mix of amused annoyance, something that reminding him so much of his favorite spotted heroine.
"When are you gonna let that awful nickname go?" she asked with an exasperated sigh, even as the corners of her lips crept up in a smile.
He grinned in response, hopping up from his seated position on the railing and standing on it instead. He dipped into a low bow, holding his hand out in a dramatic flair of princely behavior. "You have to admit that it's kind of fitting, Princess. A room at the top of the tower, a balcony that looks over the city, and the beautiful princess waiting for her prince," he added with a wink, still grinning as he walked along the railing toward her.
"Oh, you think I'm beautiful, huh?"
His foot slipped as he realized exactly what he had said, and he tumbled off the railing, thankfully only onto the balcony instead of down onto the street.
"Chat!" She yelped, jumping straight up as he fell and darting over to him. "OhmygodImsosorry, are you okay?!"
Rolling over onto his back, he looked up at her. She had kneeled down behind his head and now she was leaned over him, staring at him with those brilliant blue eyes of hers.
"You really are beautiful, Marinette," he said softly, locking his eyes onto hers with so much certainty in his look. Her eyes slowly widened and her lips parted, and then he realized that he had done it again. Both of their faces turned red and he scrambled to sit up quickly, only to knock his forehead into hers with a solid thud.
She leaned back immediately, holding her hand to her forehead. "Ouch, Chat, sheesh. What are you trying to do, give me amnesia?"
"Uh, purrhaps?" he mumbled, sitting up and rubbing the back of his neck again. "Sorry, Mari, for your head, and the uh... you know."
Laughing, she shrugged it off, even though her very red face made it clear that she was more than a little embarrassed. "Isn't Ladybug usually the one who's at the receiving end of your compliments?" she asked, trying to brush past the obvious awkwardness.
She was right, of course. It was normally his lady that occupied his thoughts, because she had always been extraordinary. Still, he shrugged and sighed, leaning back on his arms to look up at the sky. "My Lady is amazing. That's always been true, and it always will be. Things are just... more complicated lately."
"Complicated?" she said quietly. He heard her moving around, and then she was sitting next to him with a curious expression.
"Ah. Sorry, I don't know." He shook his head, sitting straight up again, glancing over at her. He knew exactly what his complication was, but he wasn't sure he could really bring himself to say it either.
She met his glance, offering a kind smile that made his heartbeat jump. "You can talk to me, you know," she murmured softly, a hint of an emotion he couldn't place on her face. She seemed almost... conflicted?
"I love Ladybug. I've always made that clear," he started explain. After another glance at her made him nervous, he leaned back to lie down on the balcony floor, staring up at the sky, which somehow didn't help as much as he thought it would because all he could think was that her eyes sparkled more than the sky ever could.
"Yeah..." she finally mumbled in response, which shook him out of his quickly spiraling thoughts.
"I, um, I might be starting to think I'm in love with... someone else, too," he admitted finally, chickening out of the confession at the last second. "I've always thought that Ladybug was 'it' for me. She's this brilliant beacon of hope and goodness, but sometimes she really does feel like an actual beacon. Like I can see her light, and it's close, but it's just out of reach, and if I try too hard, I'll get smashed on the rocks. I guess that being in love like that is starting to feel... complicated."
He paused, closing his eyes as he started to picture his Lady in his mind. She was as beautiful as ever, and she still made his heart go crazy but... there was hesitance now, and he knew that the oddly silent girl next to him was the cause.
"This other girl, even though she's made my feelings complicated, she somehow manages to make things so simple all at once. If Ladybug is the sun, then she's like the moon. She's soft, and sometimes sad, and even if she reminds me of Ladybug in some ways, she's still entirely herself in everything she does." Realizing that he had been rambling like a fool, he cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to shrug it off. "Wow, sorry, I don't know where that came from!"
Marinette shifted slightly and looked at him, starting to stand up before pausing to speak. "It sounds like you really care about them both, Chat," she offered quietly, then stood up the rest of the way. He turned his head to watch her walk to the railing, leaning onto it so heavily that it made his heart hurt for some reason. She just seemed so tired. "I know how you feel," she mumbled so softly that he probably wouldn't have heard it without his cat hearing.
"What do you mean?" he asked in response, and she jumped slightly, almost like she had forgotten he was there.
"Oh. Well, I've already told you about the boy I've been crushing on for a while now but there's sort of someone else creeping into my heart too? So, I guess I just understand what you're feeling."
He wasn't sure how to respond to that. He knew she liked someone, even if he wasn't sure who it was. He had managed to convince himself that maybe he had more of a chance with her than Ladybug though, but if she liked two people? That made him a lot less sure. Trying to process this, he sat in silence and she didn't appear to want to interrupt it either. Both of them were stuck in thought, and finally he just sighed, clambering to his feet.
"Hey, Marinette?" He called softly, standing just behind her with his hand rubbing the back of his neck again. She turned around quickly, trying to get rid of the sad look on her face before she faced him, though he could still see it in her eyes.
"What is it Chat?" she asked, stepping away from the railing and towards him.
He held out a hand, and after a moment of hesitation, she put her hand in his. Using it as a tether, he gently pulled her forward and then grabbed her other hand too, holding them both in his own. He looked down at her hands, turning her palms up and tracing the lines with his thumbs.
"Chat?" she asked again, a little quieter this time.
"I don't want to be complicated anymore, Marinette." He paused, taking a deep breath and flicking his gaze up to her eyes before bring it back down again. He wouldn't be able to say what he wanted to if he was looking into those, that was for sure. "I... It's you, Marinette. I think that, well, no, I know that I'm falling for you."
His heart almost stopped at the soft way her breath hitched and she froze stone still. Before she could question him or try to speak, he hurried to explain.
"At first I just wanted to come here because you were just so... confusing to me. I know I shouldn't say this, but I know you as my civilian self."
"Chat! You can't-"
He nodded, finally looking up at her. "I know. It's just hard. Having the mask just makes things so complicated!" He squeezed her hands, trying to bring himself back down to a more calm state. "And I hate things being complicated. My life, all of it, has always been complicated enough. I don't regret accepting the miraculous, but sometimes I just wish that things were easier, so please just hear me out on this, okay?"
She looked skeptical at first, and hesitant to let him do something they both knew had risks. Still, he mustered up the most heartfelt pleading look he could, and she relented with a sigh. "Alright."
"You... you act so different, around civilian me? I know I can't tell you a lot of details or how close we are, even, but it's just always been a mystery to me." Pausing, he took another deep breath and tried to figure out what to say without overwhelming her. "Marinette, you're kind of the most amazing person I know."
"That! Well, that can't be true, I mean.. Ladybug, right?!" she sputtered, starting to pull away from him slightly as her face flushed red.
"It's not the same. Ladybug is... she's a hero. People just kind of expect kindness from her, and yeah, maybe it's not required, but she just sees it as part of the role. But you? You're just nice to everyone, because you want to be! It's like you were literally made of kindness. Even with me..." He looked up at her, letting go of her hands finally. She was doing her best to avoid looking at him, and he gently tilted her face back towards him. "You've been so kind to me. Both sides of me, even when you barely knew me and had no reason to be. With the life I live, you, Princess, are one of the only people who truly makes me feel real."
She sniffled softly, and he could see tears starting to form in her eyes, something that made his heart drop. "I... I don't know what to say to that, Chat."
"You don't have to say anything, really, I just needed to un-complicate things, a little." He smiled sadly, moving back to give her some space again. He watched her reach up to wipe her eyes and sighed, frustrated with himself and the circumstances.
Seeing her tears start to spill over, he sighed again. Before he could talk himself out of it, he pulled her into his arms and wrapped around her tightly. "I hate that I caused this. I'm sorry, Princess."
"It's not your fault, silly cat," she mumbled softly, starting to relax in his arms. She buried her face in his shoulder, her arms twined around his torso. He couldn't help but be a little pleased that she still wanted to be around him, and pressed a soft kiss to the crown of her head. She sighed at that, squeezing him a little tighter. "It's just that things are still so complicated. Gosh, I hate that word."
"Well, maybe I can make things less complicated," he said thoughtfully. It was something he never thought he would consider, but now that he had, the thought was implanted in his mind. "I don't want things to be complicated or difficult for either of us. I'm okay with going in blind if it means I'll crash into you. You're the most trustworthy person I know, Marinette."
"What are you talking about?" she asked, pulling back slightly to give him a puzzled look.
He sighed, giving her a lopsided grin that didn't match the worry in his eyes. "Please don't be mad at me," he said, barely pausing before rushing into the next phrase. "Plagg, claws in."
"Chat, wait!" she squeaked out, but it was too late. There was a blinding flash of green light and she slammed her eyes shut, and then slapped her hand over them for good measure.
"Marinette, please," he said softly, reaching for her hands. He gently tugged the first one away, bringing it up to kiss her palm. "I need you to see me, all of me."
He could see that she was shaking, and probably angry with him, if her silence was any indication.
"I know that you're in love with two probably great guys. I know that I probably don't measure up to them either. And... if you really don't feel comfortable with this, I can transform again," he said, looking over his shoulder for his kwami, who he spotted lurking near a potted plant. The tiny cat god had no sarcastic comments, which was a shock, instead just nodding at him. "I used to think Ladybug would be the first one to know. Maybe she still should be, but I just know that you kind of mean everything to me, and I can't hide from you anymore."
When he had finished speaking, he let go of her hands, stepping back out of her space. She didn't move to cover her eyes with her hands, which was a relief, but she also wasn't opening her eyes either. She seemed like a statue, completely frozen in thought. He tried to wait it out, but after a few minutes, it seemed clear that she wasn't okay with this.
"I'm sorry, Marinette. I'll go, okay? Plagg-"
"W-wait!" she stammered out, reaching one hand out for him. He quickly wrapped both of his around it and squeezed hers reassuringly, trying to offer her any kind of comfort he could.
"It's okay. You don't have to force this," he said, giving her hand another soft squeeze.
"No, no. I... you're right. I don't want things to be complicated anymore." She took a deep breath, bringing her other hand up to squeeze his in return. After what felt like forever, her face un-scrunched itself and her eyes fluttered open.
At first, she didn't react at all. The world was perfectly still, and he couldn't really even see anything but her. Then, the realization started to kick in, and her eyes widened. From there, he watched her expression shift to something softer, and then there was embarrassment, some sadness, more shock, and every other possible emotion. Finally, she settled on a small smile and teary eyes, squeezing his hands.
"Adrien. It's you." she said, barely above a whisper. The tension seemed to have slipped off of her shoulders with those words, and she looked more lovely than anything he had ever seen.
"Yeah... Is that okay?" he finally managed to ask, letting go of her hands to rub his neck for the millionth time that night. She sure managed to make him uncertain sometimes, that was clear.
Instead of speaking, she just rolled her eyes and before he knew what was happening, she had crashed into him. She wrapped her arms around him, slightly on the tips of her toes to lean into him more. He felt himself relax all at once and hurried to return the embrace, practically lifting her up and spinning her around in his excitement.
"Of course it's okay, silly cat," she mumbled softly into his shoulder. "It's better than okay," actually," she added as an afterthought, and he looked down at her questioningly.
"Better than okay?"
She froze, leaning back to give him a sheepish and embarrassed smile. "Yeah, uh. The two guys that I have... feelings for, are you. Well, Adrien-you, and Chat-you."
He stepped back, gaping at her with wide eyes. "Wait, you had feelings for me and... me?" She only nodded in response and he grinned again, sweeping her into another enthusiastic hug, and then abruptly stopping again. "Which feelings came first?"
"Cha- I mean, Adrien! Agh!" She groaned, roughly rubbing her face with her hands, which only made him laugh. Hearing his amusement, she pulled her hands away and tried to glare at him but failed, pouting instead. "It's not funny!"
"I'm sorry! You're just cute when you're frustrated, Purrrrrincess," he said with an overdramatic flair, shooting her a grin. She was red in the face, and fighting to find words like she often did around his civilian self, and that made much more sense now. "You must find me pretty irresistible then, since you fell for me twice, how cute."
She shot another glare at him, though this one quickly became a smirk that terrified him. She chuckled slightly under her breath, and leaned up onto to her toes again. He froze as she got closer and closer to his face and watched her eagerly, trying not to be disappointed when she pressed a kiss to his cheek. He thought she would back down after that, but instead she leaned forward more, stopping when her mouth was so close to his ear that he could feel her breath. "You fell for me twice, too, Chaton."
His eyes widened and he started to respond, but before he could even get a syllable out, she had moved again and instead pressed her lips to his. Every single thought evaporated from his mind and the whole world became the vanilla and sweetness that he could taste on Marinette's - Ladybug's? - lips. He tilted his head to return the kiss, holding her in his arms like the treasure that she was. She felt so much like home to him, and he finally understood why trusting her had been as easy as breathing. Even physically, she fit perfectly in his arms, and her lips felt like they were molded to be kissed by him.
When they finally broke apart, she looked up at him and he met her eyes. Part of him felt ridiculous for thinking there could ever be two people with eyes as positively magical as hers.
"I love you," she said softly, her endlessly blue eyes filled to the brim with the sentiment to match her words.
"And I love you, m'Lady."

Season 1, Episode 1: A Different Place
Where better to begin talking about a show than the beginning? Like most shows, Sítio do Picapau Amarelo has a pilot episode.
...Okay, in this case, “pilot episode” is just a fancy way of saying “first episode”. Much like Rick & Morty and DT17, SDPA doesn’t really have a pilot episode that isn’t just the first episode (unless you count Doc and Mharti as R&M’s pilot, which I’d rather not), so to begin the series, we kinda have to jump right into the mess of things.
It’s like A Quiet Place, but not stupid.
As the episode begins, we are introduced to a two men on a horse-drawn cart. The man in the red box is a book salesman who’s a little down on his luck in terms of profits.
A little.
This guy isn’t really given a name, and I don’t want to call him “The Salesman” the whole time because that’s stupid. So I’m going to give him a name. Mr. Simmons will do nicely.
Anyways, Mr. Simmons falls out of the cart when it hits a patch in the road, and when he picks himself up, he sees a quaint little house on a farm, with an old woman knitting on the porch.
Here, we are introduced to the first of our main cast, Dona Benta, a kind elderly lady who owns this little patch of heaven known as the Yellow Woodpecker Farm. Yeah, didn’t take us long to get there, huh?
So Mr. Simmons sees this old woman in the middle of (what he believes to be) nowhere, and decides it’s the perfect opportunity to make a quick buck believing that:
Which, I dunno, man, she seems pretty comfortable just sitting in her rocking chair, knitting. Like, even as an outsider who doesn’t know a lick of what goes on in this farm, I’d say she’s content as she is, but anything to make some cold hard cash, I guess.
Also, I would not ever call this place a desert, even for the sake of exaggeration. There’s grass everywhere, bushes, trees, flowers, the works. If this where anything like a desert, I do not think this woman would be here, to put it simply. But, I digress. And I hydraulic press, but we won’t be seeing that.
So, Mrs. Benta goes inside to call for the kids, and here we meet 3 of our other actors:
Here, we see Pedrinho (or Little Pete, the boy in the blue overalls) and Narizinho (or Lúcia “Little Nose”, the girl in the red dress), cousins and Mrs. Benta’s grandchildren. They’re playing tag, I think, but they’re stopped in their tracks with their Grandma in the way, and-
Hang on, I feel like we’re forgetting something.
Oh, right. I almost forgot Emilia. She’s basically the reason I watch this show, no biggie.
Anyway, she’s in a race with the kids, when they’re blocked by Grandma. Emilia makes the smart move and cuts right under Mrs. Benta. It looks like this:
Another reason I like this show so much, it’s rife with smears, which I feel like any good cartoon should have. Like here, where Emilia friggin’ nyooms right under Mrs. Benta like a comet.
Emilia reaches the finish line at the bookshelf, where we see the Viscount of Sabugosa, a puppet made out of an ear of corn who’s very smart and polite. (His name is a pun, “sabugo” means corncob in Portuguese, and it’s a parody of the Count of Sabugosa, of which there were 9, the first being Vasco Fernandes César de Meneses in 1729- but everybody calls him Viscount and so will I because blah)
In this show, the Viscount is the actual size of an ear of corn, which makes sense, he is, after all, a puppet made out of one. I think it’s really funny that the cartoon is slightly more realistic than the live-action show it’s based on in this regard, because in the 2001 series, for whatever reason, the Viscount towers over everyone:
And he has a sick mustache.
Like, I don’t get it, out of all the characters, you made the guy made out of corn the tallest one in the cast? I get that the technology to make him actually small probably wasn’t all there yet, Grandpa in My Pocket was still 8 years off, but you really couldn’t find a guy that wasn’t the same height as Shaq?
Yeesh, only 2 minutes in and I’m getting sidetracked this often. Well, I guess it’s better than having nothing to talk about.
Anyway, Emilia wins the race, but the other two kids run into her, smooshing her against the bookshelf-
-and pwning her so hard she briefly grows fingers on her hand (and turning it into a left hand apparently, because the thumb is on the wrong side)
Mrs. Benta explains that Emilia and the other mystical beings must hide from the impending salesman.
Oh brother, I was wondering when we’d get to this guy. This is Marquis of Rabicó (Portuguese for Short-tail). Literally the first thing you read about him on the show’s Wikipedia is that he’s fat (which you think would be a given cuz he’s a pig), and his part of the Characters section isn’t much better, stating that he’s a “gluttonous, selfish, cowardly and lazy pig” and most of his episodes involve him getting himself and/or others into trouble by being a gluttonous, selfish, cowardly and lazy pig. He’s only ever onscreen to cause problems, either directly or by proxy. If I were to sum him up in one meme, it would be this:
Now, I don’t hate Rabicó, I’m actually quite indifferent towards him, but he does bring down a lot of the episodes that he’s a major part of. Thankfully, there aren’t too many episodes featuring him in the first 2 seasons, but from what I hear, Season 3 goes ham with that shit (pun intended) and it brings down the quality of the season as a whole, so it’s a good thing that’s as far off from now as it is. I want to enjoy the lack-of-pig while it lasts.
But hey, at least he doesn’t look like this:
Don’t do drugs, kids.
Rant over, Mrs. Benta explains that she wants things to look normal because the Yellow Woodpecker Farm is a very peculiar place, where all kinds of weird and wacky stuff goes on, and if word gets out about it, the place will be filled with tourists wanting to get a peek of the action.
Something that Mrs. Benta probably didn’t consider is that there’s a bigger threat to being exposed than just filthy tourism. That’s right, I’m talking about the GOVERNMENT.
I mean, think about it. How many movies have you seen where the government tries to hunt down an unnatural being? E.T., the Sonic Movie, a third one I can’t think of right now, etc. (Lilo & Stitch does not count) Now, I can’t speak for Brazil’s government compared to the U.S., but I know there’s gotta be a division dedicated to dealing with unnatural things that would no doubt arrest Emilia, Rabicó, Viscount, etc. and run experiments on them. Then again, maybe this cartoon takes place in a world where the government doesn’t even exist. I mean, we never really see any urban settings in the show (aside from a brief mention of “the city” in the finale), so for all I know, the world of Sítio do Picapau Amarelo is run by Vermin Supreme.
Real talk, you should all be ashamed of yourselves for not voting for this guy back in 2016.
Initially, Emilia won’t go into her box, but then she gives in and is dragged there by Aunt Nastácia, the housemaid of the farm with a knack for making dolls (so she’s essentially Emilia’s mom). She doesn’t really do much in this episode, but the Fat Bastard does even less, and I still mentioned him.
So Mrs. Benta lets Mr. Simmons into the house and he does this whole spiel about how great the books are, how they can take you to worlds you never imagined, fantasy and action, yadda yadda.
Meanwhile, the kids are off to the side and they’re all like “Well, we met the actual Hercules, get on our level scrub”. And of course, Emilia is watching with them, instead of in her box.
As Simmons keeps on rambling, Emilia is being a little peeping tom, not realizing that one turned head could lead to her being dissected like a high school frog.
Apparently, Emilia thinks she’s a regular Bart Simpson, with shit like spitballs and pulling out the man’s leg hairs. She’s really pushing her luck here, and for little reason. Sure, Simmons called the place boring, but that’s how it’s supposed to be to him.
Of course, Pedrinho and Narizinho are nice enough kids that they bail her out on this one and pretend it was them.
And before Simmons can ask what the hell is going on, Mrs. Benta gives him the money for the books and sends him out the door. And once he’s out...
I’ll give you a hint: it rhymes with go.
Of course, they’re not out of the woods yet, cuz Simmons is getting a little suspicious.
Busted. The truth is revealed, all laid out for Simmons to see. A talking rag-doll? Inconceivable! And yet, there it is.
Come on, Viscount. I would expect you of all people to uphold what Mrs. Benta said and stay hidden. You’re smart enough, you should already know what’s at stake, or at least that something is at stake. I mean, I understand that the cat is already out of the bag, but you’re not helping.
Also, you’re thumb is clipping into your bowtie, you should get that checked out.
Rabicó, I hope you get turned into salami. Not out of spite or anything, but just because I like salami.
Naturally, Simmons believes he’s struck gold and found the ultimate tourist trap. But when Emilia points out that if he tells anyone, he’ll sound like a crazy person-
-he straight up Villager Neutral B’s her,
hails a horse, and books it.
Wow, Viscount. Dick move mangling Mrs. Benta’s glasses like that. And all for an impromptu magnifying glass, which is pointless-
-because we can see the horse tracks perfectly fine without them.
(The Viscount isn’t this much of a jerk in the rest of the series, I swear.)
So, the gang follow the tracks until there are no more, which leads them to a corn store.
Wait, a... corn store? As in, a store that mainly, if not exclusively, sells maize and maize accessories? Compared to vegetables in general, that’s quite a niche market, I can’t possibly imagine finding a success in building an entire business around one type of vegetable. Corn is simply not as versatile as something like chocolate or cheese.
Oh no, wait, it’s just a bar. I guess this cartoon takes place in the middle of Prohibition 2: Return of Jafar, and the whole “corn store” thing is just a set up for a speakeasy. (I mean, you could also argue that it’s a diner, but I’mma go with bar because it’s funnier.)
And I’m guessing Simmons expects the place to put all of the meals on his tab, considering he’s going to get the money later with all the tourism. But then, why doesn’t he just pay with the money he got from selling Mrs. Benta those books? So he pulls Emilia out of his bag to show everyone that he has a talking doll and...
Hm. Probably should have put some air holes in that bag.
Anyway, the gang comes in, and Mrs. Benta asks for the doll back, with Narizinho hamming up her Oscar-worthy performance:
So everybody’s giving Mr. Simmons a mean glare:
Including this gentleman who looks like someone just insulted his favorite MHA character (it’s probably Tsuyu):
So Mr. Simmons desperately tries to convince everyone that the doll indeed does talk, and that she comes from a wacky place, but Aunt Nastácia intervenes and says that it’s just a normal doll.
She just straight up roasts Emilia, who (big surprise) does not take it very well. To the point that she is very visibly angry, which you think the barflies would notice.
I mean, look at that and tell me that you wouldn’t notice anything weird.
But anyways, they get the doll back and we get this cute group hug.
D’awww.
So they leave with Emilia-
as Mr. Simmons is beaten to death offscreen for stealing from a little girl.
As the gang walks home, Viscount bends Ms. Benta’s glasses back to normal. Took you long enough, ya jerk.
Not even close, my dear. This is only the beginning.
Well, that was a very good first episode. It introduces the world and many of the main characters very well. And while there were a few issues I had with it, they’re really just nitpicks that don’t detract from the episode as a whole. Overall, a good effort, 8/10.
So, yeah, that’s the first episode down. Join me next time when we watch episode 2, and meet a very vile villain.
Very vile indeed.
