Todays been awful so fuck it, IT fandom unpopular opinions! (And they're actually unpopular for once!).

-As much as I hate to say this, I think getting mad at people for not liking Mike Hanlon is shifting the blame from who's really at fault for this and that's Andi Muschietti. Yeah it sucks that Mike is always forgotten by this fandom but this fandom is dominated of fans of the movie and the movie and book are totally different. If some 13 year old has only seen the IT movies I don't blame them for not caring about Mike because he got dicked over by Andi's racial bias. And don't say "well they should watch the mini series or book to appreciate him then" as if being in a fandom is supposed to require homework. A lot of people only like IT 2017 and that's fine, and they're not less of a fan for that. It's okay to not like certain members of the losers, as long as your reasons are valid.

-I wish fanfiction would potray Sonia and Eddie's relationship (and honestly Sonia/Myra) with more depth. I am NOT saying Sonia isn't abusive, she absolutely is, but i have seen A LOT of ridiculous portrayals of Sonia and it bugs me. Even good fic writers often pigeon hole her relationship with Eddie to just being him secretly hating every thing about her with no complicated feelings at all. As someone who grew up in an abusive household, majority of abusive relationships aren't like that. That's why abusive relationships are so sinister in the first place, they're hard to get out of because you convince yourself you love your abuser. Most kids, especially heavily manipulated ones like Eddie, would struggle with feeling pure hatred for their mother. And that's interesting! I wanna see that portrayed in Eddie's character, especially since he struggles with his own identity and feelings about himself quite a lot already. If you cannot handle a portrayal of an abusive relationship being more than just two dimensional awfullness 24/7, i don't think you should be reading something as heavy as IT.

-Similarly, the way people talk about Sonia, Myra, and to a lesser extent Belch is really gross. IT actually condemns fatphobia in the narrative by having Henry attack ben, and i see people complain all the time about how ben lost wait as an adult but suddenly when it's Myra, Sonia and Belch you can fat shame to your hearts content. I have seen so many posts from people, either roleplay accounts or otherwise, calling these three fat bitches or hogs or even fanfics that deliberatly use Sonia's weight as short hand for her being terrible instesd of letting her actions speak for herself. Fat shaming isn't suddenly cool when it happens to someone you hate. Molly Ranson is a real person and that is her real body, there are probably people in this fandom who even LOOK like Sonia out there. This also applies to insulting the appearance of any other actor btw.

-I think Ben Hanscom in the it 2017 continuity is honestly kind of a creep. He kisses Bev while she's unconcious depsite not actually knowing if it'll pull her out of the deadlights (he didn't even have a reason to think it would work at all), he holds onto her yearbook signature in his wallet for 27 years even tho he literally forgot everything, spends most of IT chapter 2 coping and seething that Bev isn't attracted to him, and never says anything to defend her from Richie spreading slutty rumors about her. The only time he defends her from slut accusations is when its henry and shes there to see him do it. If Henry did any of this you guys would be all over him, but because it's Ben and they play sappy music over it it's suddenly cute and whimsical.

-I also think Richie gets away with a lot of shit that if it was done by any of the antagonists the fandom would rip 'em to shreds. People give me shit all the time for sympathizing with Henry Bowers becaude he's racist and mysoginistic but Richie says many mysoginistic and racist things across adaptations and nobody cares. Of course he spreads rumors about Bevs promiscuity, but in the book he does quite a few racist impressions and bits like when he says "You know the worst part about getting AIDS? Trying to explain to your mother that you got it from a Haitian girl.". Hell, at least Henry is 12, practically groomed into it, and so mushy brained from the pills he can't think straight, what's richies excuse? I don't even care that Richie is gay, does being in the closet justify anything? Did being attracted to Henry absolve Patrick of the fact he killed a baby? No? The same goes for Richie. Ofc you can still like him, but i don't like it when richie fans act like he's all pure and ignore his worse moments just to grand stand.

-It 2017 is actually just as ewwy towards minors as the book. Just because you removed a gang bang scene doesn't mean you aren't still weird with minors. Mr. Muschietti still thought it was appropriate to make a scene where young Bev is forced to flirt with a pedo pharmacist, another where she gets kissed unconscious, and one where her friends oggle her in a bra. Yeah it's cool you got rid of the sewer stuff but WHY ADD ALL OF THAT IN.

-The whole "omg what if the ritual was going to work but richie had to sacrifice eddie as his token instead and thats why it didnt work" is kinda dumb. it implies that the native americans who created the god damn artifact couldn't do the ritual right but these random white guys could all along. The movie straight up says the ritual has never worked and Mike saying he believed it would work because of their connection is treated like it's wrong. Maybe Eddie was Richies token but I don't think that's why they defeated IT and I also don't think it would have worked to begin with.

Just told a friend about this but I hate how Patrick Bateman’s (predominately male) fans think hes some sort of sigma top dog cool guy who everyone should aspire to be when he’s in fact a big time loser. Like horrible fashion sense, he lies about who he is and what he owns just to get others approval, goes into great detail about what’s hot at the moment like music, fashion, design, so he can look cool. And hes always getting the piss taken out on him by his “friends” who literally also think hes a loser. His coworkers ask him about fashion advice just so they can pretend to humor him as he goes on and on about what looks best with what while they’re secretly just making fun of him behind his back. He goes by just all the top name brands for clothing instead of what actually looks good together so canonically he looks like a hot mess but he tries so hard to fit in and be accepted. Hes just a loser and thats ok and the people who mischaracterize him need to be executed.

There’s something so ethereal about when the Losers first defeat Pennywise in the book. They’re chased into the sewers, forced to descend and continue on. Even when they’re crawling on their stomachs, even when they’re faced with the giant eyeball, they still have to keep moving forward. Henry Bowers is behind and Pennywise ahead. But the Losers know what they have to do. The sewers become like a cathedral, light flowing in through an unknown source. The wall is hundreds of feet tall, now. At the very bottom, a mere speck among the sheer magnitude, is a door. A door meant for a child. The symbol is different for every one of them. But they enter, even knowing what’s behind it. An unnatural glow floods their vision. Pennywise is there, in the form of a massive spider. It’s the closest thing to Its true form the human mind can comprehend. Even still, the dangerous radiance of the Deadlights can be somewhat seen when you look close enough. The spider is only a weak illusion. Its true power lays beyond. The massive chamber is covered in a deadly web. This web contains the bodies of all of Its victims. Mercifully, George is not there. He has already been buried. And it is George’s death that draws Bill forward. He steps closer to the abhorrent spider, only to be thrown out of his body. Thrown out of space and time into the infinite darkness of the macroverse. Hurtling past obsidian, obsidian black, while It constantly taunts him. Until he finally manages to sink his tongue into Its. “He thrusts his fists against the post and still insists he sees the ghost.” This is the phrase that leads to Its apparent demise. The Turtle tells Bill to finish it, that this victory may never be replicated. But the others say it’s dying, say it’s dead. They’ve won. But they haven’t, not yet. And not really. They’re still stuck a quarter mile under the ground, maybe even deeper. Even Eddie with his internal compass can’t find the way out. So Bev lets each of them come to her, shedding their childhood and her virginity. They’re able to leave now, but not without being forced too grow up too fast. When they’re finally out, Stan grabs a piece of broken glass off the ground. With life all around them, he pretends to slit his wrists. A cruel imitation of his later years, with those bloody crosses etched into his wrists. The red liquid dripping onto the floor. But Stan isn’t fated to die yet, and simply cuts his hand. He cuts both of Bill’s, and then cuts the rest of the Losers. They pledge to defeat It, if It ever comes back. This promise is the last time the circle will ever be completed. The last time all seven of them will ever be together. And they know it. And so they slowly dwindle away, prepared to meet again 27 years later. But only six of them will come. Only one will remember. At the end of everything, five will remain. But none will remain. A beautiful and melancholic ending.

🏡🎈 I see myself in a place in nature. 1989. Walking without shoes, wearing only a white dress and my glasses. My hair blowing in the wind. Until I hear laughter and people talking, them. The group that simply has my heart, I walk towards them, but I don't seem to move, until I wake up completely out of breath. In my dreams, I'm there with them. In my head, I should be there. I feel that I belong there. That they would understand me and accept me for who I am. I don't understand, what have I said or done wrong not to have friends like them? In my dreams, I'm a loser, I'm accepted, I'm a good friend [...] Last year, I seriously considered committing suicide. Until I saw this movie. I fell in love with it, it was like..a light at the end of the tunnel. In my dreams, I deserve to have a friendship like theirs and to be supported, valued, without anyone judging me for the way I act. [...] They saved me, and here I am. I'm actually crying as I write this letter. I just want them to know how important they are to me, how much I love and appreciate them. If I could, I'd like to give them a hug, but I can't. In the book, Richie had his encounter with IT as the Paul Bunyan Statue in March of 1958. Mike's canon birthday in IT 2017 is July 3rd, 1976. In the book, July 3rd is the day Mike meets the Losers Club, its the day of the rock fight. Kind of interesting right?

ive inherited a copy of lolita from my parents (i.e. i stole it from the library in our basement and started treating it like its mine) with the 1989 vintage international cover and i think its actually not that bad. better than the 50th anniversary one with the lips anyway imo (which is the cover for the library ebook vers ive checked out).

like i think any cover that incorporates the "only convincing love story of our generation" quote anywhere kind of sucks on principle, and the fact that it features a photo of a girl at all really goes against nabakovs instructions, but compared to other covers that break those two rules, the haziness of the photo creates a really evocative atmosphere i feel matches the book more or less.

sighing and putting my head in my hands and crying and throwing up as i think about stanley uris and how he was the most terrified loser.

how he was deathly scared of being dirty, of not knowing where he was, of not being able to predict the world around him. how he was more scared of his world order being offended than anything else. how knowing that pennywise is real sent him down this spiral of 'what else can be real' and it broke him. but he STILL was the one who cut everyone's hand and made the oath. how bill constantly reminds him of his bird book and how it saved him. how he is more mentally fragile than eddie. how he's one of the only Losers who ever says "i can't do this", but he still gets to his feet and makes jokes right after he cries. stan uris, who, after Mike is like, "i just saw a killer bird!" goes, "what kind of bird?"

thinking about how we really don't know how his death went down so we don't know what he was thinking in those last moments. how he threw away his whole picturesque life because of a promise he made, and because he couldn't honor it. how he's such a private person, a quiet one, but he's so so so sharp and graceful. i wish they showed more of his fear in the movies, how much it fucked him up in the end.
