Heyo! Do you have any tips for making comics? :)
I've been meaning to get back into the swing of it, but concentrating on such a commitment that takes so much time is tough sometimes haha.
How do you make it work? Are there things you avoid/make easier for yourself just to make the process more fun and do-able?
First of all, I’m very happy for you! I think it’s very exciting whenever we return to a craft we were once passionate about. I wish you the best of luck!
This is a big question and I don’t think there’s really one simple answer since all artists are different and have their own strengths and weaknesses.
One of the biggest issues I face is that I have a million ideas but I simply don’t have the time to do them all. I want to share all these ideas but if I gave each and every idea the same amount of attention and detail, I’d hardly get anything done. So here are some things I've learned through my own comic-making experience, but keep in mind it may not be what you're looking for. Also remember this is NOT career advice. I make comics for fun, not for a living. If you’re looking for professional advice I would suggest looking elsewhere 👍
1 - A comic doesn't have to be fully rendered to be entertaining. Although I love to draw and line and color my work, it’s not always necessary. If I feel a punchline is strong enough to stand on its own, I’ll just make it into a doodle comic. In fact, I’ve found that some of my doodle comics perform better than the fully rendered ones! The doodle comics are still very fun for me to draw and they also serve as gestural drawing practice, so in the end it doesn’t feel like I'm making a sacrifice. I'm still getting my ideas out there and I'm still drawing, I'm just prioritizing what gets more attention so I can better manage my time.
2 - Not every panel needs an illustrated background. You definitely need to show backgrounds for establishing shots and when characters are interacting with the scene. But sometimes the focus needs to be entirely on the character and/or what they’re saying. You can choose to have a solid color background and maybe add a few textures to keep it visually interesting. You're still putting in the effort to make your art pop, but you aren’t losing a ton of time by drawing dozens of backgrounds. Color is also a good way to convey mood. I do that a lot in my comics, like this bit from “My Gal”:
Tumblr media
^ I was trying to show a progression in excitement here, so having the colors change from cool to warm does a better job portraying that than if I just had a standard, scenic forest background for all the panels.
3 - Use resources: That's what they're there for! Because I make all these comics by myself, I have had to find resources to help me get through some of the steps faster so I can focus more on the story writing and the artwork. For example, to help me save time on lettering, I use the Onomatopedia font and the Manero Panels, SFX and Bubbles brush set for Procreate. I’m still selecting the sound effects and choosing the appropriate bubbles and tails to suit the mood and scale of the text, but this has saved me a ton of time because I’m not drawing each individual element by hand over and over again. Personally, I purchased these resources but I'm sure there are plenty of free tools out there that you can use.
As far as making it more fun... Honestly, I just love comics as an art form so much that learning about all the 'rules' and techniques and 'SOP's behind comics makes it more fun for me to make them. I recommend checking out tutorials and tips (even if you think you already know it all) and you might be surprised at how much it might ignite more of your comic-making passion. For example, I've spent hours on Blambot's "How-To" page and on ComicDevices.com just to try and soak up as much as I can. They're full of fascinating reads that make me want to try out different things!
I hope this helps! Good luck with your comics!

how would u recommend a beginner get into blender? Ima 2D art student but want to fill out my portfolio and it looks super fun and cool!
Yay I'm so glad you want to learn Blender!
Since you're studying 2D, you probably have a lot to learn and practice already. So I'll try to answer in a way that could benefit you the most in both practices.
You probably already heard Blender has a tool called "grease pencil" - it's a 3d object, but they also built it so that if you want to do regular 2D illustration or animation, you can do that too.
Learning grease pencil first could be a good way to familiarize yourself with Blender's interface. And because a lot of the toolsets share how they operate (for instance, adding modifiers to the stack is the same no matter if you're using a grease pencil object, curve, or 3D mesh), you can more easily move to different parts of the program later, like poly modeling or sculpting.
One really great tutorial for 2D Blender is this one by Kevandram - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZyB30-xZFs
From there you can move into tutorials that combine 3D and 2D - or just start with this if you're really excited to learn 3D modeling. Again Kevandram has a really great tutorial for that - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftBFjGy5z08
Something you'll wanna watch out for with Blender tutorials is the version they're using. If your version of Blender is newer, then maybe a button or menu a tutorial tells you to use might have moved. Or some functionality may have changed. Luckily since Blender is open source, they make all versions available to you here: https://download.blender.org/release/
Once you get more familiar with Blender, jumping between versions is easier. But for the sake of learning, if you find a really great tutorial that's using an older version, you can just use that version. You can have multiple Blender versions installed - right now I have 4.4, 4.1, 4.0, and 2.79. So for instance in Kevandram's Bakery Shop tutorial, he's using Blender 3.0 which you can get here - https://download.blender.org/release/Blender3.0/
If you're not interested in grease pencil, or just want to jump straight to 3d, this is a great beginner modeling tutorial from SouthernShotty - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1CFWDWTamo
It mostly sticks to modeling and then gets into basic material stuff. A simplified order to learn things in 3d would be:
Poly/mesh modeling
Modeling with curves
Adding materials/using the shader editor
Unwrapping 3d objects / learning the UV Editor
Texture painting / Painting texture maps (using that unwrapped map from 4) in Blender or some other program (Krita if you want to paint on the 2d map itself. Procreate if you want to paint directly on the model although that'll require a tablet).
A lot of beginner tutorials will take you through steps 1-3 usually, and maybe throw in some basic animation, camera setup, lighting, and rendering. More intermediate/advanced topics would be rigging, animating rigged models, physics simulations, and geometry nodes.
To bring it back to how this could benefit you the most as a 2d artist - something I see a lot of people do is prototype in 3d, and use that 3d render as a base to paint over. Some people strictly use grey boxes, and some people actually model/texture/light certain things and then render that out in layers to use in their painting program later. You can use as much or as little 3d as you want to help 2d painting.
Here's a couple videos showcasing that type of workflow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHIZtZ2JU3A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5GSyytbABo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5ZyW7K_yP8
Those use Blender's cameras and lights, which you'll pick up as you do modeling/texturing tutorials. Later you can get more advanced with those as well as the different rendering engines within Blender.
This was a lot, but I hope it helps clarify where you can start, and ultimately what you could get out of using 3d!

This piece holds the record for digital painting I’ve spent the most time on, just 20 minutes shy of 50 hours! It definitely felt longer, somehow😅 i practically painted the whole background with the knowledge that i would blur it in the end. I felt if i didn’t draw it all, the blur would look incredibly unrealistic and weird.
Jenny and I talked extensively about how the composition should look. Or rather, originally i wanted to fit all 5 people from the scene into the drawing, but just couldn’t not make it work. Jenny was incredibly nice and flexible, and told me that i didn’t need to, since Baz looking at Simon was the important part. Thats how we ended up with this composition
We also talked about how we wanted to represent the bonus content room, and settled on drawing inspirations from long exposure photography. I tried my best to get the effect via combining procreates different blurring options, using a bit of perspective blur and motion blur. Perspective blur was used to keep Simon’s face as a sort of focal point in the blurring, making sure his face was still intelligible. Im not quite sure i actually managed to make the blurring look specifically like long exposure photography though😬 maybe in the future if i get to draw something like this again, i might try some different methods!
Im incredibly happy i could be part of Carry On Big Bang this year! Ever since i read the books in November 2021, I saw fics written for the project and thought it was the coolest thing. Since i adore this project so, i knew i had to give it my everything (something my mother was really unhappy about. At the same time i was in this project, i was chosen for a project to illustrate one of many stories for a book about loneliness, one that would be published, which my mother thought i should prioritize and basically shit on this project🙄 safe to say i didnt agree. In the end i managed both. Take that mother.) (although i did actually put way more time into COBB whoops… but the carry on fandom deserves it)
See you next time, when i might post an artdump of all the art i did for artfight this past month!

Hello! I saw you were taking asks about anything (with bonus pictures of Mr. Haku?? bless) so I was wondering if I could politely pick your brain about your illustrative process. I've been tearing my hair out over rendering practice lately and your studies always blow me away. I know you've had some training and I think we both use Procreate, so I'd love to hear about how you use layers and/or layer blend modes, but also general process, thoughts, tips, etc. hope you're well, have a nice day :-)
Thank you so much for the ask and kind words!
I don’t cross promote it as much as I should probably but I upload a lot of speedpaints to YouTube, such as this study that might be helpful. Depending on how complicated the piece is, I’ll either break it down by putting shapes down (typically darks first) or do a more formal sketch if I don’t think I can easily eyeball it. After the sketch, I do an under painting on a layer below the sketch, set the sketch to multiply and then I render everything on one layer. It really depends on the brushes you use, but I prefer to build opacity slowly with a brush that doesn’t blend, lowering and upping the brushes opacity as I see fit. This creates a more complicated, kind of glowy effect that I think works particularly well for skin rendering.
Tumblr media
I’ve been exclusively using leatherwood under “artistic” in procreate recently. You have to use a pretty big canvas to make it work (I’m usually working on 8000px+ 300dpi) but I really enjoy some of the unpredictability of the brush, makes things feel more natural. Not sure if I altered the brush at all but if there was a multiply or stabilization on I turn those off always, basically.
As for layer modes, I don’t tend to use them a ton for paintings except maybe for maybe throwing a slight multiply layer to bring tones down if the key gets too high. I’m more likely to mess with curves and color balance to experiment with color. I do this especially for my lined illustrations, I use layer modes also for them too and just go to town trying a bunch of stuff. My tip for this is to duplicate your file, flatten everything, duplicate your flattened layer and just mess with it until it feels right. Color editing to this degree is kind of new to me, but since I’ve begun it’s really upped my game I think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before/after color editing. I know sometimes people think of this as a cheating tool in digital art but honestly that is a silly take to me.
I hope this answers some of your more specific questions. Thank you again!
This post is already long as shit so Mr. Haku under the cut

Hiya! Hope this message finds u well :3 I absolutely love your art; found you from insta! Quick question also; I’m not sure if you’ve answered this before, but which brushes do you use for ur digital art? I love the textures they’re so crunchy (endearing)!! Have a lovely day!! :D
hello!! here's a little brush tour ft. this half rendered martin.
also, a great app for ipad artists who really want to dig into texture is art set 4. i swear by it and i've been using it for about two years. none of my more recent art uses it, but that's just because i'm experimenting with my process rn
Tumblr media
so here's a list of my most used brushes lately, and there will be links to all of them at the bottom of this post.
the two labeled "custom pencil" are both my own personal modified pencils (both sourced from the 6b pencil) but the narinder pencil and the vanilla 6b pencil are both very similar to them. i use these two for sketching and flat color specifically, and if you do specifically want these two brushes then i'd be happy to upload them somewhere for you to download, but they're not really necessary for texture
i also use G&B halftone brushes sometimes! but i greatly prefer the RSCO sample pack, and i cannot find the link to the G&B brushes no matter how hard i google, and pretty much any halftone brush set will do the same job
Tumblr media
and here's what they look like in practice!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(i like to set these halftones to color burn. color burn is my most used blending mode, even for shading)
and then i hit "copy all," paste, and duplicate it. so you should have two layers of just your entire canvas. then import a paper texture
i'm partial to the set i'll link down below, my favorite is #5. you should absolutely check out the rest of the free texture packs on their website if you're wanting to diversify your texture process btw, all of their stuff is fantastic.
to use that texture, your layers should look like this!
Tumblr media
on the layer set to the linear burn, i also like to go into the adjustments menu and bump up the brightness until all of the colors are at similar values to what they were before. and the normal layer on top is just to control the intensity/opacity of the paper texture!
after all of that, sometimes i'll go in with brushes like MM rake follow, or more from COFE's weird pencils, on top of all of those layers for finishing touches.
definitely play around with it, try new free brushes all of the time (i heavily recommended subscribing to Manero. they have a lot of free stuff and it's all fantastic) and see what works for you <3
here are the links to the brushes in this post, as well as some extras! some of them are paid and some of them are completely free. + it wasn't mentioned here, but i use the tatyworks linen fabric brush for blending! for any of the paid brushes, i'll try to link some free alternatives

Hi, it might be my imagination but I understand you are a self taught digital artist. I was wondering how long you have been drawing and how you started. You can totally ignore me if you wish.
Hello!
Oh, I guess I’ve been drawing my whole life? I’ve always loved it and enjoyed art class growing up! I guess I didn’t start actually developing my drawing skills until about 6ish years ago? I started doing digital art around 2020 when I was playing around with my iPad.
I actually went to design school so I was required to take drawing classes! Reference drawing is a great skill to build for perspective and examining an area (even if you plan to mainly do digital art I think everyone should start off with pencil and paper). I then took (was forced) to take an illustration class and that’s where I really gained skills about characters and illustrating digitally.
Even though I learned a lot in school, there’s only so much professors can teach you! It is really up to the student and how much time they want to invest in their craft and what resources they seek out. I’m still figuring out what my style looks like and still use lots of references but that’s all a part of the design process and continuously developing your skills!
If you’re trying to get into it I recommend searching up some basic videos for the fundamentals and to just keep practicing! You really see progress after you’ve invested time :)
For programs I know there are bunch and it really depends on what you have access to! I mainly use procreate as I have an iPad and the Adobe creative cloud. There are lots of free alternatives that are similar to these programs!
Hope this helps!!

how long does it take you to create a piece, start to finish? you are an artistic inspiration of mine and i am curious :)
I find myself struggling with drawing footballers in a stylized way instead of using a direct reference… it took me maybe 3-4 hours to do a semi-realistic piece vs 8 hours until i am satisfied with a art piece without direct reference (procreate). part of it perfectionism… i know it’s not a skill i’ll develop overnight but i want to create more freely if you have any tips.
i love your art dearly and i’m always happy to see it on my dash! especially the animated post of rice’s goals vs. real madrid, the color choice is so so cool. 🫶 have a good day
the last drawing of dec took, according to the procreate file, almost 8 hrs. here is my usual process + rough times for a drawing of that size:
1hr: look up the references (for football usually on getty images), draw the thumbnail sketch, choose colours and figure out composition
1-2 hrs: do a secondary sketch, work out anatomical proportions
1hr: lines. trying to be precise while also dynamic. i think seeing this sketch with the colour sketch, to get a rough look at what the finished piece would look like, is very motivating. (very important as its easy for me to drop a work if im not motivated enough lol)
1-2hrs: colouring (least favourite part)
1-2hrs: details such as the kit designs, the ball, words, the little ornaments (i like this part even less)
then by this point, maybe about 30-60 more minutes would be spent with more tweaks, corrections, staring at the finished product lol
but this time i think i might’ve spent at least 2 hrs doing the animations despite it only being 6 frames in the end. i’m not used to animations but hopefully the more i do in the future the less time it’ll take me.
also, i tend to waste a lot of time experimenting on the canvas or moving stuff around. i’m also held back by perfectionism, while it is great to hold yourself to high standards, getting bogged down in details seems to be a curse of many artists, so the common advice tends to be to let go of perfectionist proclivities, and trying to do so personally has helped me the past few years with getting progress on a piece. c:
i spend maybe from 0.5-3 hrs each day working on a piece, a lot of procrastination/pep-talking myself on the parts of the process i don’t like.
these times vary depending on how many characters i’m drawing and the complexity of the composition. in contrast, this drawing of Miles Lewis Skelly took me 1.5 hrs.
with footy art i also i use references a lot for faces and hair even though i suppose my drawings are very stylized, just to make sure they all look distinct. here are my recommendations for practicing the skill of reducing time on stylized art: 1. experiment with stylizing different facial features and body parts. 2. anchor it with practicing fundamentals such as anatomy proportions, skull construction, rendering 3d shapes, that kinda stuff. 3. exercises and tips on doing the above can be found on youtube. and take continuous inspiration from your favourite artists as well as master illustrators, animators, cartoonists, painters, sculptors, etc. character design references is an example of a solid, organized resource for this.
thank you for the enormously lovely ask. there are times where i take about the same amount of time on a drawing as you do and i still have so much to learn about drawing >_<not sure of your skill level but i hope some of these tips can be of use to you. the world always needs more footy art so best of luck with drawing those footballers, i really look forward to seeing your drawings if you post them!

Hey there! I love you’re semi realistic, semi cartoonish art style bro! I hope you don’t mind me asking but what software/mediums do you use? I am trying to work on my lighting and shadows and textures but I have no clue how artists like you achieve such detail
First off- thank you so much! I truly appreciate it. And second- oh my goodness I am so sorry for how long this ask has sat in my inbox! I hope some of this can still help you :’D
As far as software goes, I’m almost exclusively working in procreate as of late. There’s plenty of great programs- if you need something free and desktop based, I highly recommend Krita. I have a few brushes from different packs that I often default to. You can see them all and links to said packs through this answer I gave to someone asking about my brushes earlier:
As far as detail in my work goes, that’s just through a loooot of practice and doodles and drawings. I’ve been drawing since I could pick up a pencil, so I’ve had a lot of time to figure out the way I like to do things- but even then I have so much to learn!
I do, however, work in many traditional forms of media as well! I haven’t done so as much lately since digital doesn’t require cleanup, but I honestly believe that working in traditional for my entire life up until 5 or so years ago has a hand in how I approach things digitally as well. I’ve done pen and marker illustration, pencil and colored pencil, acrylic painting, as well as 3D work. I’ve worked in a lot of media and I want to get around to trying as much as I can when I have the energy to! If you have questions specifically about what traditional media I use or work with let me know!
When it comes to improving on rendering, doing small studies of images you really like the lighting in helps a lot for me. Learning how to break light in a photo down to simple, blocky shapes helps to figure out getting an initial layer down to refine later when doing full pieces! When rendering a character, especially if drawing something that isn’t in a scene, I always recommend marking out the direction the light is coming from as well as color of the light before even starting, so that you can determine where highlights and shadows would be placed in an initial blockout. Keep in mind there’s different kinds of light in a piece- I would recommend looking into tutorials about direct light, indirect light, reflected light, etc to get a better feel for how it works- while I do my best, I don’t think I am quite skilled enough to explain those nuances.
When approaching most textures, especially unfamiliar ones, references are my best friend always. It might be a good idea to just do test sheets/practice making the textures that would be useful to you on occasion! And in the end, textures also tie into lighting as well, since a lot of what makes textures super distinct is how light hits them, especially when it comes to things like metal. It may be a bit of a hot take, but in a lot of cases I tend to avoid a lot of digital texture/object brushes, especially those meant to simulate natural textures like leaves, and I do those textures manually instead. I just personally like having more control over those shapes and feel it looks better when each texture is made intentionally by hand! Sometimes I do use texture brushes especially for backgrounds, abstract work or subtle layers, especially if I’m working on something very fast, but it’s not my first choice. However I do know there’s plenty of artists who use texture brushes in ways that look great, so that’s just personal preference. :)
I do apologize it took me so long to respond! But if you have any specific questions, my dms are open and I want to start replying to y’all more!

I absolutely adore your art style.
It has such a cozy vibe and it just fits with how the characters are described, I dunno am I making sense? I just feel like it fits in my head with how I’ve thought about them. But I think my favourite is your ginny. I love how you make her outfits and designs so warm and comfy but still make her facial expression a little hawk like. It just suits her.
the other thing I love is you Yule Ball series you did for Ginny, Hermione and Luna. I was wondering if you would be willing to draw the Patil Twins? Because the movie absolutely ruined their outfits. You don’t have to.
I really love your Art Style so I was wondering if you had any tips for people who wanna start digital art in a style similar (but not exactly the same obv) to yours? I really suck and I cant get over the ick I feel when it doesn’t look like what I want it to, so I don’t actually feel like trying again and practicing.
Sorry this was really long haha. :)
Hiya! Thank you very much! That means a lot! I am definitely going to do the Patil twins at the Yule Ball. I want to do a series for the Ball. The Patil twins, Cho Chang, Angelina Johnson, and Katie Bell, etc. They all deserve their moment in the spotlight. To answer your question, I don't know a lot about digital art either. For most of my illustration work, I use traditional techniques. I use my iPad and Procreate for these artworks because I draw them when I'm all cozied up on the sofa :) But, if you want to try some more art digitally, I can tell you this: I try to draw the same as I would in my sketchbook. I sketch out the character, then create a new layer for line art. I keep that sketchy as well, otherwise, I get pretty stiff poses. Then, I just colour them like a colouring book. You can play around with some layers with special effects, like imported textures or overlay layers, etc. Just play a bit with your effects and try to find something you like working with. It also helps to study some digital art guides on Pinterest, for example. I did that a lot when I just started out. And remember to keep having fun. Improving your drawing skills can be really tough, but as long as you still love doing it at the end of the day, you'll be grand. I really hope you found this helpful. Love XXX

The Ballad of Bird and Bunny
Fandom: BNHA MHA
Pairing: Miruko x Hawks (BunnyBird)
Genre: Romance and Comedy
One Sentence Story Summary: An encounter between the prodigy Hawks and the rising star Miruko ignites of a spark of long forgotten past lives, but only one remembers.
Disclaimer: Soul mates. I don't usually do this sort of thing, but it seemed fun for this pairing.
A/N: It's mentioned in Rumi's profile that she likes design so I just kind of ran with that. The song featured is Promise (Get Down) by Kohmi Hirose. Look it up!
"The beginning of our love, this continuing dream. I'll surely spend it with you."
Rumi's brow furrowed in concentration as she hunched over her tablet, the bustling city of Musutafu just white noise around her. Her worn travel bag sat beside her. She sat focused on Procreate artwork - pursuing the pleasure of illustrative designs.
A shadow covered her, briefly disrupting the intense flow of her creation. Glancing up and behind her, she caught the sight of a golden haired man with messy eyebrows. Familiar enough, but who cared?
The swagger of his steps echoed down the paths of her mind.
"Hey, I just wanted to take the time to congratulate you on your well-deserved debut as a top hero," he said with a casual bow. "I have been following you for a few years now."
Oh, a fan. She'd have to get used to this.
Rumi's default response, a forced softening of her voice, kicked in. "Hey there, autograph?"
Just like she practiced.
"Miruko," he chuckled, a hint of exhaustion masking the amusement in his glistening eyes. "I'm Hawks.”
And?
Not to be rude, but...
Wait.
Her brow furrowed. A burgeoning headache gnawed at her. She didn't keep up with the competition, focusing solely on her own relentless pursuit of battle.
But.
If she were being completely honest, then maybe something about him felt at least a little familiar.
Then, it clicked. The jolt of realization popped through her head like a bullet. Her mind had cleared the headache.
"Oh, right," she replied in a monotone, her gaze flickering back to her tablet. “Weren't you the one cozying up to Endeavor, right?"
He chuckled again, waving a dismissive hand. "Work stuff, y'know. But I still had an eye on you. Just hadn't mustered the courage to come say hi."
The audacity of his statement, laced with a subtle arrogance, sent a silent scoff through her. Didn't he realize he was coming across as condescending? Still, a smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.
"Does Birdie want some crackers with that cheese?" she quipped, her voice laced with amusement.
Hawks' laughter filled the air, a genuine sound that resonated deep within her. Their eyes met, and for a moment, the world around them seemed to fade away.
"Birdie and Bunny - sounds like a good collab," he mused, a playful glint in his eyes. "Might have to tell my agent about it."
Rumi shook her head, a playful smile replacing the earlier smirk. "Me? Collab? You haven't heard of Miruko? It takes a life or death situation."
Hawks paused, his gaze locking with hers. "I have," he replied, his voice taking on a deeper, more serious tone. "But I think I can find a way to convince you."
Rumi felt an inexplicable urge to blurt out the question, "Have we met before?" It fit the flow.
But. She bit her tongue.
By that annoyingly cocky smirk on his face she'd think he was just another fan boy.
"Maybe it's just my parasocial relationship with you," he continued, his smile turning sly. "Being a huge fan and all."
Her left eye twitched. Was mind reading part of this guy's quirk, or was she reading too much?
“Uh, sure. I am the greatest,” smirked Rumi. “It was only a matter of time before everyone caught on.”
Most men didn't dare approach her as boldly as this... hawk. He was probably looking to conquer her like a challenge or maybe he was just on the hunt for a good time.
When the flustered waitress came by, Hawks waved and winked. “At least, somebody recognizes me,” he noted, making the girl swoon.
“Hawks? You're the number two hero! Who wouldn't know you?” said the girl with hearts beating in her eyes.
His eyes flitted to Rumi - knowingly, as if to say something.
With a flicker of amusement, Rumi leaned back. This guy was a show within himself. But what was his modus operandi?
Thumbing the menu, he looked down and pointed at a dish. “I'd like a cheeseburger with fries,” he requested before the waitress left.
Rumi slapped the table a few times in a spirited fury. She clenched her jaw into a snarl. “Hey, what makes you think you're invited to sit here?” she barked.
Hawks folded his arms behind his table and looked up at the ceiling. “What's wrong, madam Miruko? Is there an issue?”
“You're breaking my concentration,” she said, hugging her tablet to her chest. Because she just knew he'd jump at the opportunity to see what she was working on.
“I never would have thought that Miruko the Miraculous Rabbit Hero would be such a shrinking violet,” he mused, taunting her.
Total misread. Complete misread. Her blood boiled, heat rising to her cheeks. “Hawk...” she growled.
“Hawks,” he corrected with a smile.
“I keep my circle tight,” she said.
He quipped, “Tight?” His eyebrow raised subtly.
“But if you wanna stay and eat in silence, then,” she said, pausing for a much needed breath. This was going to be a mistake. “You can stay. “
“Good,” said Hawks, leaning forward in his seat. “I know I seem like I'm coming onto you, but-”
Rumi sharply interjected. “This is going to have to be a really good ‘but.’” She shifted forward in her seat.
In a beat of silence, the music filled the air like liquid filling a cup. An old Japanese Pop song called Promises.
His plastered smile faltered for a moment. “I'm just getting a feel for my fellow heroes. We're part of the same flock now,” explained Hawks.
“Same flock, aye?” Rumi asked before slamming a hand on the table. “I've been in a league of my own before I even became official.”
Smiling, he sighed, “Former vigilante, right?”
No comment would be made on that for contractual reasons.
In a beat of silence, the music filled the air like liquid filling a cup. An old Japanese Pop song called Promise.
“Besides, you can't deny the obvious. You're...” Rumi began before her heart throbbed. Her breathing became rapid, climbing at the rate of the song.
Hawks studied Rumi's distress before reaching forward. “Hey, you okay there? Need a water?” he asked, offering her the ice cold glass on the table.
Water. Yeah.
Reaching forward, Rumi's hand grazed Hawks's hand. Their touch was accompanied by a symphony of memories and universes colliding like a big bang. Their eyes locked onto each other. Fragmented memories came crashing down onto her like sand in a sundial.
This was unlike anything she'd felt before. This was...
Laughter.
Love.
Loss.
All at the same time.
Hawks's hooded gaze lingered on Rumi. They fixed onto each other, unable to tear apart.
“Taka...” softly cried Rumi before the words jumbled in her mind. Her voice was soft and trembling - completely betraying her ferocious strength.
What was happening to her?
Hawks jumped up. He pulled her to him.
The heat of his body with the scent of his sweat all came crashing down on Rumi.
The world faded - dissipated into the blank space of eternity.

Hey there! I've been loving your digital art journey (your art journey in general to be honest!) but as someone who is also trying to move to digital art, do you have any advice like what brushes you've found best to work with as you get used to changing medium or any other advice would be helpful!
Hello!!!
Sorry for taking too long to reply!
First of all, thank you so so much!
And second, about digital arting (lol) I've started all knew because I've never done ot before. My friend suggested me try the app "Sketchbook" (the one thay the icon is a pencil), because it's free and have a good ammount of brushes!
I still haven't tried procreate, so I can't talk about it, but most of people say it's really good and has shared some brushes with me! I still need to get confident enough to change to procreate, because I'll have to pay for the app and right now it's not very ideal lol
I use this set of brushes on sketchbook and the one selected is the one I mainly use! (Excuse the low quality pic!)
Tumblr media
I have an Ipad and an the apple pencil, I got them from my friend. She was selling her boyfriend's and they were in a good price! I can't compare the Ipad with a tablet, but to me it's very easy to use the Ipad!
Now tips I think helped me learn how to draw on digital:
1. Start with simple cartoonish drawings. If you start with simple stuff you get used to the feeling and also can try as much technics with them as you want, without worring about anathomy, and making a polish drawing.
I spend a long time doing stickers art for an Artist Alley I worked at and it helped me practice a lot!
2. If you're more comfortable with pencil drawing, I think it's a good idea to sketch on paper (or even get a finished drawing you already have) and finish/trace it! I did it while illustrating my book (the little rat I posted a couple days ago)!
I still have a lot of difficulty on sketching digitally, so it helped me with time and also gave me a boost of confidence because I didn't have to take so much time in the beginning of the process.
3. Avoid using black! My sister is a designer and she told me black is a difficult color to use in colored pieces, so try to use other colors for sketches and line art. You can use whatever you want I think... I use dark redish brown, it works for me!
4. Use as many layers as you want! I was so afraid of drawing digitally that the first time I drew on it (a small Rey head) I used 20 layers. I felt secured that I could make an error and erase it without fearing to ruin everything!
I think that's basically all I have to share! But feel free to seend me amy questions specific or not! I'm always happy to help!!

Would They Have to Hire Another Snake to Push Them Manually?
Or would the Service Snake pull the wheelchair? How would a harness stay on? Would the wheels run over their tail??

Hey y’all, I’m Nico Forest (23y) a multimedia artist, content creator, and activist. I’ve been meaning to make an intro for a while, but dk what to include - I think this’ll do :) send me an ask w any questions, I’ll respond eventually. Check out my linktree for my socials, projects, and community resources. Keep reading for more about me and my work!
(They/He) pronouns - I normally just tell people I’m queer, but for the discerning fag, I’d say my identity is poly panaesthetic aroace transmasc nonbinary, or something like that lmao. Regardless I’m queer, happily married, and k!nk-positive. I started hormone therapy in June 2020, but have had to go off it a few times due to health problems and being unhoused. However, my husband and I have been working hard on it together, and I now get to apply T gel once every day! Got top surgery January 20, 2025 and have been sharing some of my experiences online.
Spirituality is really prevalent in my life as a veiled pagan. Honoring the cycle of birth and death is the focus of my practice, and the reason I veil. I was born in a cult and ran away when I was 13-14; they didn’t allow learning about other faiths, so I took the first chance I had to study them, which became a special interest. One of the ways I am reconnecting with my Puerto Rican and Italian heritage is by learning about their various religions and traditions.
I’m a bed- and housebound high-support-needs disabled person that uses a wheelchair and cane. I’m currently saving money for forearm crutches for more independence. My partner is my caregiver and is helping train my SDiT. Been in treatment for a decade, institutionalized / hospitalized, received more diagnoses from more doctors than I remember, and still can’t say for sure what is causing my deterioration. I feel strangely naked listing a cvs receipt of disorders / symptoms, but the ones I’m comfortable sharing are:
C-PTSD, Autism, DID, Schizoaffective Disorder, Situational Mutism, OCD, ARFID; chronic pain and fatigue, tics, palilalia, blackout episodes, hallucinations, brain fog, amnesia
Severe deterioration started 2019, triggering 5 years of constant testing and treatment, including brain /spine scans, nerve conduction studies, and chemotherapy - doctors agree that my results are abnormal, but they either can’t figure out the source, or don’t agree on it. We were working it down to potentially Functional Neurological Disorder, Ehlers-Danlos, and/or POTS when ALL OF MY DOCTORS went out of network, so I’ve had to full-stop almost all treatment since Jan 2025 (womp womp). Don’t have a choice but to keep trying tho — my health continues declining with no explanation.

I like experimenting with fashion, top surgery has given me freedom to wear the things I actually like without crippling dysphoria (I suddenly own a lot more dresses)

Mentally incapable of choosing one medium so jack of all most trades it is: woodcarving, scrapbooking, digital art, clay, jewelry making, resin, beadwork; fibre / textile art - crochet, weaving, sewing, needle felting, yarn spinning, embroidery, upcycling clothes; fine art - paint, graphite, charcoal, alcohol markers, soft pastels; music / songwriting - ukulele, guitar, kalimba, learning keyboard and mixing; etc.

I love nature, though my health keeps me from it most days. Bird watching, foraging, and flying kites on the beach are god tier. My favorite birds to look for: sandhill cranes, purple gallinule, swallow-tailed kites, anhinga, roseate spoonbills, double-crested cormorants, turkey vultures, fl scrub jays, doves and ducks of every variety.

I really like beanie babies. Like, a lot. Can’t even explain why. One in my collection I’ve had since I was 1y, it’s my 2nd oldest belonging and one of the few possessions I took with me when running away.

Not a DNI - just know whatever you consider “far left” likely falls comically short of where I stand sit: stop banning books and start listening to scientists (*gasp* the horror) genocide is wrong, Dems = Reps, help schools teach age-appropriate lessons on sex ed and history, abolish borders / prisons / police and replace with various best-practice community support networks, government should pay reparations and return indigenous land to indigenous people, everything needed to survive should be free - regardless of finances or citizenship status (food, water, shelter, clothing, social support, college, daycare, healthcare including gender-affirming care, addiction treatment, therapy / psychiatry, and longterm facilities / in-home caregivers, etc). If you don’t like that, please remember that -
Anthropologists and ethologists view “care of the vulnerable” and “freedom to focus on arts instead of food” as signs of an intelligent species w an advancing society…
What does that say about us?
•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
If you’re still here ~ congrats!! Don’t forget to collect 200 when you pass go :) may your cup overfilleth and your tea leaves never burn
Also I think if our hypothetical scenario has snakes that can use wheelchairs which can then be pulled by hired snakes, a snake could skip the hassle and hire someone to carry them, like a larger snake, or a friendly alligator perhaps - y’know, someone with similar interests. Unless this is a universe in which snakes dethroned humanity as the dominant species long ago, thus allowing them to form flourishing snake societies, or snocieties, and reign supreme?
