-Sam, stop making random au's you're never going to write challenge impossible-
[Pictured in the first image are several doodles of Silas the mandalorian, Myles the Mandalorian and Jango Fett. Silas is depicted sitting down and leaning against a half wall in thought while Myles leans over it, beside him. Silas is also depicted with a side profile in one doodle, lifting Jango up by the waist with Jango cupping his face in a kiss in another, Jango leaning on his shoulder asleep in one while Silas watches fondly, and Silas kissing Myles while holding hands in another. Myles is depicted with a side profile in one image, and affectionately holding his arm around Jango's collarbone in another. The second image is a larger version of the first doodle of Silas and Myles, with the caption of Silas and Myles speaking.
Silas: I can't believe I'm going to sleep with him.
Myles: You don't have to.
Silas: No, I'm gonna.]
I cannot stop making silly Au's, I just can't and it's a problem at this point? Also just because I don't continue posting about au's I've made doesn't mean I forgot I still very much obsess over them I just forget that posting is a thing until I make a new one. Might make a master list post of all my silly Au's tbh that way people can see them all and maybe ask questions and maybe I can doodle more and-
Anywayyy! Here's another happy ending starwars au but this time in the form of Jaster Lives!! (Even though Jaster isn't pictured. But he's alive guys-)
I can only be normal about Jango Fett for so long guys. And for the past...months and I do mean MONTHS him, Silas and Myles have plagued me??? They won't let me leave.
These three just make me so ill oh my god you don't understand. There's barely anything in cannon (actually I don't even think it's cannon anymore but I also stopped carrying about cannon so) but I love them. There's so much that there could be! "I'll follow Jango and no one else" like I'm sorry? That level of devotion??? Also Jango actively loosing it when Myles dies ??? As a final straw? Silas dying words begging Dooku not to tell Jango if his betrayal? It's all awful and I love it so much it hurts so good?
Too bad this is a happy ending au so they're all FINE. The designs depicted are actually much more concepts of an au, than they are an actual au? Like there are several au's of mine that branch off of Jaster living and these designs specifically. So take that as you will. I do want to make a more in depth post going over their designs but for now here we are. (Also Silas is supposed to have a burn mark on his upper arm and in just forgot smh)
You may also notice this is sorta Silas centric and you'd be correct because THERE'S ZERO FANART OF HIM??? LIKE AT ALL??? okay maybe there is but I haven't found it and that's upsetting cause I love him. And yes I did give him long hair. It was supposed to be just a smidge longer than his original length but actually the more I drew it the longer it got and I'm okay with it.
Anyway I have been...rambling for way too long about these three of you read through all of that I- thank you? It's not out of my system though so like...if you want more...
Oh I forgot that they're all very gay for each other btw. If that wasn't obvious? They all kiss. They're all three boyfriends.
I love any and all the pictures of their relationships with one another tbh! Whether they're all platonic, one's third wheeling, queer platonic, brotherly love, etc. I just want them to all be happy together okay?
#jango fett#star wars#jango fett open seasons#star wars legends#silas the mandalorian#myles the mandalorian#silas the mandalorian/jango fett/myles the mandalorian#star wars fanart#i just want more content of them together is that too much to ask#all the fanfic with them is centered around Obi-wan or the and i love Obi but i want these three to have their spotlight moment#they deserve a nice fic with just the three of them ya know?

QuinObi Fic Rec List
QuinObi week isn't until October, but like I did last year, I wanted to drop some of my favorite QuinObi fics to get y'all excited! This list is not exhaustive, just a starter, but I hope you'll enjoy!
Hush by @violentcheese: a gorgeous Padawan first kiss fic! Made me a bit teary, tbh.
Don't Waste Your Treat by @ninjigma: Obi-Wan and Quinlan are on a diplomatic mission. They bicker over a popsicle and are very into each other. This fic had me sweating. <3
Flu Season by @coruscantrhapsody: Padawan Obi-Wan has a huge crush on Quin (which is definitely returned). A QuinObi Week 2023 fic by my bestie
Reach For My Hand by jelucan: Quinlan was presumed dead but it turns out he wasn't. He and Obi-Wan wander through Coruscant and have feelings. This is one of my personal fave fics for these two.
With a Little Help From My Friends by @palfriendpatine66: Quin, Obi-Wan, and Siri are best-friends-with-benefits. A piece from last year's QuinObi week that I adored!
On Your Best Behavior by wanderingjedihistorian: Obi-Wan and Quinlan accidentally get married on a mission. Why not have a wedding night?
To Our Halcyon Days by @lothcatthree and @krispyscreams: Obi-Wan and Quin reunite during the empire when Quin finds out their son Cal is alive. A great and super romantic multi-chapter!!
Shaking From Holding You Back by @ashinaburrito: Obi-Wan rips Tarkin a new one when he's rude to Cody, and Quinlan thinks that's hot. Smut ensues in a closet.
Counting to Coruscant by @fanfic-phoenix. This whole series is WONDERFUL and has everything from Padawan Obi-Wan and Quinlan to their lives during the war (and the moments of romance they're able to snag) to the aftermath of Rako Hardeen. Super super recommend!
Red and Orange Beacons Go Forth by @ashinaburrito: Quinlan gets caught in a psychometric vision and Aayla calls Obi-Wan for help.
Betrayal by @brachiosaurus-on: Obi-Wan and Quinlan reunite in the OWK show era. Beautiful, Beatiful fic.
Ride Around the Moon for a Velvet Kiss by blackkat: Snarky and wonderfully in character smut set during the Clone Wars.
Stumbling on the Way Home by CapGirlCanuck: a comics based one-shot that pays homage to Obi-Wan and Quinlan's long friendship. Lovely.
The Beach by @lilywhoisapotato: Stranded on an uninhabited planet, Obi-Wan blames himself for their predicament. Luckily, Quinlan knows how to cheer him up.
Liability by KCKenobi: Quinlan takes care of Obi-Wan after Qui-Gon's death.
Everything They Shouldn't Be by @noncanonship: After Obi-Wan's Starfighter suffers an unplanned fall out of hyperspace, he finds himself stranded near Karfeddion, exactly where Quinlan Vos is on a longterm undercover mission. Obi-Wan intends to avoid Quinlan in order to protect his cover, but the Force has other plans.
I'm going to be annoying and include a few of my own QuinObi fics (there are many because I love these two but I won't list them all):
Kill the Lights: Fix-it that centers on changing the Fives incident in TCW. Quinlan searches for a captive Obi-Wan with Anakin, Padme, and the Jedi's help. Featuring huge amounts of QuinObi (with lore I created based lightly off the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, but happier in the end).
Blood Makes Noise: My QuinObi-centric AIDS Crisis AU set in 80s/90s New York.
After the War (Part the First): It's Quinlan who goes on the Rako Hardeen mission.
After the War (Part the Second): Obi-Wan and Quin reunite via the Hidden Path
Always a Little in Love: Post-Geonosis. Quinlan bursts into Obi-Wan's room to yell at him for almost getting killed. Obi-Wan wants to forget about the war in it's infancy. Feelsy smut ensues.
Forty Years of Knowing: Obi-Wan and Quin commit to each other and extremely tender smut happens. Set in my RoTS fix-it verse but can be read on it's own.
Shoulder the Sky Verse: My RoTS Fix-It verse, including the initial RoTS AU of the same name, and it's sequel, Whispers from the Dead, as well as several one-shots. STS features QuinObi friends-with-benefits-to-exclusivity and WFTD has them in a committed relationship (and said relationship is a big part of the fic).
#Feel free to add to this!#Again this is not exhaustive and does not include all my booksmarks or tabs I have up to read#QuinObi#QuinObi Week#Quinlan Vos#Obi-Wan Kenobi#Fic recs#Star Wars tag

Dinluke, codywan time travel fanfic stuff
So, like Cody is the ori’vod of his batch in this fic and I’m sitting here on vacation thinking about how that plays out. Like somehow he’s been able to hide his huge fat crush on Obi-Wan from them, but not his own men. Sort of.
Rex has an idea, but thinks it’s more of an awe-struck feeling over natborns being nice than actual feelings.
Cody: *Staring at Obi-Wan after he compliments him*
Rex: Man, my brother really doesn’t know how to handle natborns being nice to him. Takes him off guard every time.
Honestly, I think the only one that would have a clue is Fox. Not because he’s witnessed anything, but because of shit he’s overheard in the drunk tanks.
Waxer: *Drunk and complaining.* The Commander really needs to get his shit together.
Fox: *Actively listening now because that’s his ori’vod.*
Boil: *Just as drunk and just as over Cody’s bullshit.* Yeah, his heart eyes are going to kill me. Wish the General would figure it out for them instead!
Fox: Blackmail!
Ponds and Wolffe are rarely around Cody when Obi-Wan is there. But when they are, Cody does his best to make sure they don’t notice. These are the two who would give him the most shit, after all.
Ponds: Do you remember when Cody cried because Prime looked at him funny?
Wolffe: Or the time that Cody got decked by Neyo and had to be sent to the med center?
Cody: Come on, we all have moments like that as cadets.
Ponds: Yeah but most cadets don’t fall off into the ocean.
Cody: I was trying to help Rex! He dropped his—
Bly would be the first one Cody tells, because Bly is hopelessly in love with his general and everyone knows. But Cody doesn’t want every conversation he has with his brother to be about their generals.
Bly: So, yeah that’s what General Secura did.
Cody: Interesting, but you also said there was some kind of flying animal on this planet?
Bly: Oh boy, let me tell you. One of those fuckers nearly took of my arm. I want one as a pet and I want to train them to piss on Wolffe and Fox.
Cody: Tell me more.
But you know… they all know by the end, before Cody can really admit his feelings, and they all find that hilarious.

Share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
Beyond honored - and slightly starstruck - to be tagged by @renlyslittlerose. I think all my go-tos have been tagged, so if you want to play, this is my open invitation to you! Introduce me to some new works!!
I don't have 10 works, but maybe one day :)
Center Stage in which professional dancers Obi-Wan and Anakin reunite at a dance conference (Not an exciting start but I'm VERY proud of this one - consider giving it a chance!)
Obi-Wan walked into the lobby of the grand hotel where the dance convention would take place and eyed the lavish finishes and the elegant lighting that hung from high ceilings. He was grateful, not for the first time, that he was being put up by his employer. The Metropolitan Dance Academy was covering his room and registration fees in exchange for him leading a workshop and representing the caliber of instruction expected from the academy.
Pining In Preschool in which Anakin falls for his kids' teacher
Anakin walks faster as he approaches the play yard. He doesn’t have to focus on softening his features; he can feel his jaw unclench and his scowl fade as the sounds of children laughing reach him. No matter what he had been feeling earlier, his children always fill him with light.
Coruscant 212: not yet posted WIP police dramedy, stay tuned
“Train the boy Obi-Wan.”
With an irritated groan, Detective Obi-Wan Kenobi planted his face on his neatly organized desk. “I said no. No pathetic rookies. None of your pet projects. No bringing out the promise of tomorrow. No.”
Memories Lost and Gained: an abandoned fic that I hope to resurrect one day
Anakin awoke with a headache so extreme he felt as though his skull was fractured. It wouldn’t be the first time. He tried to sit up and take in his surroundings but was met with a jolt of pain so intense and all encompassing that he felt like his veins were on fire, like being electrocuted. It wouldn’t be the first time for that either, but that was a distant memory, not happening now. What was happening here?
Vague ideas I have bumping around: - Anakin hires Obi-Wan as his nanny - GFFA au in which Obi-Wan and Anakin become drinking buddies after the start of the Clone Wars (actually: two different stories that start this way, apparently I'm very original) one an Obikin story and one a Codywan and Anidala tale that saves the universe. - something I'll just call Obi-Wan Sads for now - very very vague vibes of a Obi-Wan, Anakin, Ahsoka fluffy found family modern au. Potentially Obi-Wan adopting them both I dunno. Vibes man. I LOVE talking about my stories, these characters in any setting, and bouncing around ideas! So if you've made it this far and see anything that strikes your interest hit me up! I'd love to chat!! :)

I know people feel like they gotta be “opposites” of each other but I stand on a firm hill that both Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi are introverts, that’s part of why they get along so well, they don’t need to surround themselves with a bunch of people, they’re fine on their own or just each other as company.
Lol this is mainly because I’ve seen so many people be like “well OBVIOUSLY Anakin is an extrovert because he makes a lot of noise and because Obi Wan is an introvert,” and like, I respect everyone’s headcanons but I don’t get why so many ppl associate introversion and extraversion with how noisy/quiet you are.
In reality, introversion vs. extroversion is more based on whether being around large groups of people gives you more energy and enthusiasm or if it drains you and makes you less engaged.
And like for Anakin? When the hell have we ever seen him willingly immerse himself into a large group of people to make himself happy? The dude has like literally five actual friends in canon and three of them were at one point or another technically obligated to hang out with him (Obi Wan, Ahsoka, Rex) and one is a grooming Sith Lord. When we see him in his free time he’s retreated to the company and safety of one of the five friends to spend alone time with or he’s by himself training or fixing droids. All of this is done alone or with one other person. He gets that energy boost being alone or with one or two people because he likes calm, quiet, craves it because he feels it’s not something he’s able to easily obtain often.
We don’t see Anakin going out to parties or big events with lots of people— save for his podraces or when he’s having a public sparring match. And I’d argue those public events don’t mean he’s an extrovert even though he undoubtedly likes to show off his skill. Anakin’s a showoff because he craves validation and validation is something he’ll take from as many sources as he possibly can, and I don’t think putting yourself out there for validation is an extrovert-only thing, as y’all can’t tell me that there are no introvert fanfic writers who publish their work online hoping for a million people to see and comment on their work for validation, or introvert artists or performers who want their art seen by the world so their efforts can be appreciated. Anakin’s the same way. Like, besides fighting or racing he really DOESN’T like being the center or attention all that often, he’s soft spoken and gets easily awkward, lots of people seem to make him at least bored or uncomfortable. OBI WAN is the one who’s good with large groups of people and seems to thrive in them, not him. Even the public events he inserts himself into DO drain him once the validation high is over.
And then for Obi Wan, people say he’s an introvert because “he gets annoyed by Anakin being loud and he’s nerdy and values his privacy and being alone to do peaceful nerd things.” And I agree that like the opening of the ROTS novel says, Obi Wan is happiest when he’s in a quiet space either alone or maybe with someone he cares about just meditating or having a conversation or doing a mentally stimulating activity. And yeah Obi Wan’s a skilled diplomat so it’s one of his talents to be able to become the center or attention in a room full of crowded people and work a crowd and play off of people— but we can see he’s also a private person and while he can do that, it’s not something he always seeks out. But like Anakin, Obi Wan does have one or two specific activities where he goes out and exhibits “extroverted” activities.
Namely, it’s that overall, Obi Wan likes people in general a lot more than Anakin does. He is humble at heart but he also knows what he’s good at and he more than enjoys showing off his talents for people— because he can, because he has just the right amount of quiet pride in his abilities, and for him it’s more wanting to show everyone that he can be useful, counted on, look what I can do because I’m an asset. He enjoys public sparring matches just as much as Anakin does. And while he doesn’t podrace, Obi Wan surrounds himself with people in other ways— like his teaching. Obi Wan loves to teach, and is more than willing to be around large groups of people so once again, he can prove himself useful by passing on his knowledge and takes joy in seeing others flourish. He also has a multitude of friends and though we don’t always see him interacting with them, it’s common knowledge that they’re there and he’d be just as comfortable hanging out with a large group of them.
And once more, the extroverted examples above don’t mean Obi Wan’s an extrovert, because while he can be a social butterfly, that kind of stuff still takes an effort for him to be a part of because at heart he’d be happier in less social situations.
So yeah, Anakin and Obi Wan don’t have to have an introvert and an extrovert in their friendship, they’re both introverts to me and how loud and obnoxious your personality may be doesn’t say anything about your mindset in high-stimulus environments. Like, I just think they’re similar enough that if you make a case for one of them being an extrovert, you gotta make the same case for the other. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Title: threads spun
Summary: In another life, Obi-Wan Kenobi would have fought plenty of other Jedi Masters for the right to train little Luke Skywalker. In this one, Luke is 19 and just lost his family when Obi-Wan teaches him how to do a proper Padawan braid.
AN: I’M BACK FROM NANO WITH NEW FANFICS.
The boy just lost his whole world, and he clings to Obi-Wan's robes with shaky hands. His eyes are bright blue, his hair a fair gold color, and for just one short moment, Obi-Wan isn't sure whether the child in front of him is nine or nineteen, whether his name is Anakin or Luke.
It is the reason he gave Luke to his family in the end, even when the Force and all his selfish desires were screaming at him not to. The newborn, the son of his Padawan, the child that was Luke Skywalker, had deserved better than a broken man who didn't even know who he was without a thousand lights illuminating him. A man who'd risk forgetting that he was not holding the child he had raised, the child he had left to burn.
Obi-Wan closes his eyes and the moment passes.
He doesn't ask the boy if he's alright because it is obvious that Luke is not and it would be cruel to demand an honest answer. Luke can't be standing straight after he experienced such tremendous loss for the first time, nobody would, and Obi-Wan is saddened that he can't give Luke the time to grieve.
Despite all this pain, Obi-Wan still dares to hope for light and life.
He is relieved to see that Luke doesn't take all the hurt and anger to hide it within himself. Obi-Wan has never taught Luke a single lesson about Jedi philosophy, the way they grieve and handle all the emotions that are too large for this world, those that are capable of tearing the galaxy apart. And yet Luke controls his feelings exactly as a temple-raised youngling would, not pushing them aside or letting them overtake him. He takes timed breaths, centers himself on the world surrounding him and not on his anxieties. Pride fills Obi-Wan's heart as he watches peace and balance return to Luke's mind.
In another life, Obi-Wan would have fought plenty of other Jedi Masters for the right to train him.
He can almost hear his family laugh at him, playful jabs about him being so eager to train yet another Skywalker and see what colors they could draw nebulas in. It isn't Obi-Wan's fault; he has always loved a challenge, and Luke, racing in Beggar's Canyon at an age no boy should step into that death trap, would have certainly been a joy to teach and guide.
He could have taught him so much, so much he still needs to teach him, but the clock is ticking and time has always been a cruel mistress. Not purposefully, she wouldn't dare, but she is absolute and eternal, and like death, she takes.
Obi-Wan silently wonders how much time he has left. He knows exactly where they are heading and despite the legends he has wrapped around himself in his exile, he's neither crazy nor a fool. They are attempting to pull off a plan that they wouldn't even have dared to suggest during the Clone Wars, not with so many untrained people. He's been called reckless plenty of times, his ability to talk himself out of seeming like an adrenaline junkie being his only saving grace. Still, Obi-Wan is acutely aware of the danger they are in.
But they have no other choice. They may have the Death Star plans in their hands – and wasn't it utterly predictable that it would be Artoo to carry the plans for a weapon of mass destruction? – but Leia can't stay in the Empire's hands.
Luke and she were so strong in the Force at their birth already. While Obi-Wan is convinced that Bail must have taught Leia at least some shielding techniques, half-trained children can't withstand a Sith Lord for long. Should Vader or worse, Palpatine, learn what Leia could become capable of, they would have so much more to worry about in the future.
The Rebellion might as well be lost.
"You have grown into a fine young man, Luke," Obi-Wan tells Anakin's son instead.
"I have?" Luke echoes, curiosity coloring his voice, highlighting a cadence similar to Padmé's despite his heavy Outer Rim accent.
"I brought you to Tatooine," Obi-Wan tells him. The journey hadn't been an easy one. They had to change ships multiple times and every time somebody had mistaken Obi-Wan for Luke's father, he had wanted to stop and cry like the infant in his arms. "You were a very sweet baby."
"Oh." Luke falls silent again, but his hands have stopped shaking. In his dirty white robes, he reminds Obi-Wan just a bit of a messy Padawan. He wears Anakin's lightsaber well, even if he doesn't know how to execute even the simplest of lightsaber forms. Frankly speaking, it is a bit terrifying to see how quickly he picked up the weapon and had gotten comfortable with it. The Force curled around Luke's every movement, guiding him like a beloved teacher.
Luke will need a teacher if he is to face the darkness that would catch up to them soon.
Obi-Wan feels much older than he actually is. The fault lies partially with the harsh marks that Tatooine has left on his body, but also with the life he has led. He isn't sure if he can teach another student, no matter how much he wants to, but he has to try at least for Luke's sake. That is, if the boy truly intends to follow the path of the Jedi.
"Luke," Obi-Wan says seriously, thinking of the one who gives life, the name granted to such a young child, "Do you truly want to become a Jedi?"
"Yes." There is no hesitation in Luke's reply. "I want to follow my father's footsteps."
No, Obi-Wan wants to weep. You don't. You can't ask me to cut you down as well; I couldn't bear it.
"It is admirable to want to follow the path of someone you respect," Obi-wan starts carefully instead. He can't tell Luke what became of Anakin Skywalker. The child deserves better. "But I am asking about your own inclinations. The path of a Jedi is not an easy one, and you have to follow it for your own sake if you want to succeed."
Now Luke does hesitate. He looks down at his hands, curls them into fists and relaxes them again.
"Yes," Luke finally replied. "Yes, I want to be a Jedi."
"Then I'll hope you'll give me the honor of teaching you. I'd like to take you as my Padawan."
Obi-Wan had said these words over three decades ago to another lost blond boy, the language a little different, their surroundings certainly more peaceful than the ship of a smuggler. He tries to banish the image from his mind.
"Padawan," Luke repeats slowly. "What does it mean?"
You should know, Obi-Wan thinks. You should know what it means and be overjoyed and celebrate this day.
He can't hold it against this boy, not even against himself or, dare he think it, Anakin because choices had been made, but away from it all, Obi-Wan can only blame the Sith who ruined them, continues to hurt them.
"It means that I want you as my student, teach you all I know so that you may surpass me someday."
Bring us back to the light, rebuilt all that we lost. Obi-Wan is asking him for so much when just days ago it would have been enough for him to someday see Luke marry that boy he's been crushing on for years and live the rest of his days happily, far away from the war.
And now he dreams of home again, the rooms full of plants and droid parts, poetry collections, board games, and warmth so kind and all-compassing that no nightmares can haunt you.
"You'd really teach me?" Luke asks as if he'd be honored and the right to be taught not already something he possessed since his birth.
"Of course."
"I'd be honored to accept," Luke replies with a shy smile.
Obi-Wan returns his smile and reassuringly squeezes his shoulder once. Luke leans into the touch and so Obi-Wan lets his arm linger around the boy's shoulders as he continues to explain traditions long lost. "Traditionally, we would now braid your hair and put in the first bead."
"Braid my hair?"
Obi-wan nods and thinks of all the times his Master ran his fingers through Obi-Wan's hair, tugging at his braid and saying one thing or another he hadn't paid any attention to because he'd been too awestruck by the fact that he had a Master at all. "Yes, all Padawans of the Jedi Order have a braid. It shows your dedication to your studies and how serious you are about them. It means that you know that this is not an easy task or an easy path to take, but that you are willing to walk it anyway."
Luke thoughtfully looks at Obi-Wan, then he reaches up with his hand, putting a strand of hair behind his ear.
"My hair is not long enough to braid it properly," Luke mutters, dismayed.
He's pouting more than he is actually hurt by the thought. Nevertheless, if he lingers on it, he might ask more questions about what other chances life has denied him and because of it, Obi-Wan wants to distract him quickly.
The distraction comes at the price of remembrance, a fourteen-year-old Padawan clinging to what remained of his braid, burying his head in his Master's chest, and crying after enduring days of torment. Obi-Wan had fixed Anakin's hair then as well so he wouldn't have to deal with too many looks once they were back at the Temple. His braid had been short, but it had been there. For a moment, Obi-Wan tries to recall who had assigned that mission to them, whether Sidious had already sown his seeds of discord then.
He lets the moment go. "Don't worry, I can help you."
He had done plenty of braids during his as a Padawan and later as a Master. When the war had been going on, he had helped frenzied Padawans countless times with their braids.
There was an almost meditative process to the act of braiding and letting others braid your hair. It had soothed innumerous over the centuries and now it will once more calm another. Luke sits still when Obi-Wan begins to part the stray strands of hair on the left side of his head into three. Luke's hair really isn't all that long, but it is definitely more than enough to work with. Slowly and withs steady fingers, Obi-Wan braids another bond with his second Padawan. Luke is a kind child and this war will hurt him incredibly. Obi-Wan can only hope that what he will pass onto him will be enough to have him keep his path, to wander in the light even when the darkness reaches for him with the intent to consume.
Once Obi-Wan is finished with the braid, he reaches for his belt, takes an old leather cord from there, and wraps it around the tip of Luke's hair.
"And finished," Obi-Wan announces.
Luke, who had closed his eyes, opens them and immediately reaches for the hair, twirling it between his two fingers in a fashion reminiscent of Obi-Wan in his youth. He had only managed to get rid of that nervous habit after his won braid hat been cut. Whether Luke would act similar, Obi-Wan doesn't know, but the thought of seeing Luke ascend to the rank of Knight of the Order, no matter how small, splintered and broken it is right now, it makes his heart beat a bit quicker.
"How does it look?" Luke asks.
"As it is supposed to," Obi-Wan replies. "I believe Mr. Solo has a mirror in his fresher if you want to take a look."
Luke races off before Obi-Wan can say anymore. He returns a few minutes later, already with more color in his face than he had in the hours before.
"Thank you. Master." Luke tags on the honorific only belatedly, unsure whether it fits and it is all the convincing Obi-Wan could ever need.
"You are welcome, Padawan."
Obi-Wan Kenobi has a student once more and he will not fail him.

Thank you so much for the list! I have watched tLJ and the original trilogy and the live action series. I started watching the Clone Wars through reaction videos and I found out the episodes I thought Cody wasn't in, he was there T-T That said I really enjoy the show - something I can't say about the movies. I love the clones. They're my absolute fav now but ngl, it was only cuz I started reading a Codywan fic by mistake and then maybe cuz of you I really shipped them. That said I am always more interested whenever the clones are on screen/having speaking lines etc maybe cuz of shared Mandalorian heritage. Maybe. I wish there was more of them in terms of storyline. I understand there's the books although they don't count as canon now? I get very upset when yet another clone dies or is just casually dismissed. I'm on s2 though. Maybe they will get more screen time later? I will try to check Rebels for that person you mentioned!
ngl (really exposing myself here) I only became a fan of star wars after watching the mandalorian lmao. I had seen the movies in the past with friends and family, they never really clicked for me? Like I enjoyed them to a degree (and I had characters from them that I liked: leia, jango, finn, rey, obi wan, etc), and I always enjoyed the lightsaber duels, but otherwise I was like meh about them. I was never much of a sci-fi fan tbh. So I think that may have played a part, but there were other factors too that were at play when it came to me not being a fan of star wars at the time. But yeah. Only been an actual star wars for a few years now lmao. I dunno why but watching Mando suddenly made me really want to know more about sw! I ended up watching all the movies again, and then began looking into other content like the shows and books.
Also, asdjfsdkf that's funny! That codywan situation actually happened with me but with Overwatch. I ended up reading a fic for Overwatch (it was a Cole x Hanzo fic lmao, though back before cole went through his name change) and then I ended up enjoying it so much I went and bought the game. I don't typically play games like overwatch, but now its one of my favs! Even if I'm terrible at it (lol) and its all thanks to a random fanfic.
There are some books which are canon! Its a lot of Legend stuff that really isn't anymore. There are some lists online with the canon ones (here's one!) if you wish to take a peak! I haven't read them yet, but I've heard really good things about The High Republic books. I'm going to read them eventually myself, though I'm starting off with the Ronin novel I think. I really enjoyed star wars visions, so the moment I saw there was a book based around one of the characters I just had to buy it lol
You do get more clone centered arcs eventually in tcw but honestly there are definitely valid criticisms about how the show does at times shove the clones to the side to focus on other characters. The show is pretty bad at shoving clone issues aside in general as well. I wish we had more in depth exploration into the clones in the shows and stuff. I love the clones a lot too tbh! A lot of them are my favourite characters in star wars (like wolffe, rex, cody, crosshair, fives, echo, etc. Just to name a few).
And yay! I hope when you do you enjoy it! There's also a little more clone content in rebels 👀 but only a bit.

I Have Loved You for a Thousand Years ll An Obitine Fanfic
Name: I Have Loved You for a Thousand Years Rating: T Ship: Obi-Wan Kenobi/Satine Kryze Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Satine Kryze, Series: ABO Obitine (Part 2 out of ???) Summary: Despite being mated, Obi-Wan and Satine haven't seen each other since that fateful Year on the Run. When Satine sees him again, she thinks that maybe she can have her mate for a little while, but they have been at each others throats. Perhaps, their time as mates was destined to be short lived. Authors Note: Once I started this, I couldn’t stop. These two have consumed my soul and I’ve been in love with this. Honestly, this universe is actually really awesome to dive into and I love it. Read here or under the cut
“The sarcasm of a soldier!”
“The delusions of a dreamer!”
Of all the ways she thought she would reunite with Obi-Wan, this was not it. The man who she marked, her omega… was there in front of her and they were at each other’s throats. They had almost rekindled what they had before until he opened his mouth and basically told her she had no choice but to pick a side and join a war where she intended to keep Mandalore decidedly neutral. Her anger was mildly eased, though not by much, when she saw his eyes drift to where she knew her mating mark was hidden underneath her gown. She didn’t entirely process everything being said, knowing that something was mentioned about waiting until after dinner, making her own remark before pushing her way through to exit the room, her shoulder slamming against Obi-Wan’s as she left.
Emotions, complicated and mixed, swirled within her and almost made her sick. When Obi-Wan had come to investigate Death Watch, she thought that maybe they had a chance to rekindle something… but then he opened his mouth and she remembered that he was not the same man she mated with. He was a general in a war, and probably didn’t even remember what he felt for her.
She knew she had some time until dinner, so maybe until then she could try and settle her stomach so maybe she could at least eat something. She made her way to her room and sat down on her bed, burying her face in her hands. She knew her actions were unbecoming of both a duchess and an alpha, but she couldn’t bring herself to care when she was in the safety of her private quarters.
Tears rolled down her face, all the built up hurt and anguish of growing apart from her mate. She thought that she had gotten over it, that their years-long separation would have dulled her feelings towards him, but looking at him again and spending time with him reminded her of just how much she loved him. Reminded her of why she let him mark her that night during their time on the run. She unzipped a bit of her dress and moved the neckline so she was able to look at the red mark at the joint between her neck and her shoulder. Her fingers moved to brush against it, and she squeezed her eyes shut. It wasn’t right. Why did she have to fall in love and mate with a jetii? Why couldn’t she just move on and be happy being the Duchess of Mandalore?
She felt her stomach lurch and she was barely able to grab the trash can beside her before she gagged. Nothing came up but she still felt so nauseous, so overwhelmed. How in the world would she be able to eat anything at dinner if she could barely keep the drinks she had earlier down? Perhaps nobody would notice if she avoided eating, avoiding doing anything to set off her now tender stomach.
How long she had been sitting on her bed, clutching the bin and praying that she wouldn’t lose her lunch blurred together. She heard the comms go off in her room, alerting her that dinner was ready to be served. Her stomach rolled but she stood, letting them know she’d be there in a moment. Her dress was zipped back up, becoming the poised duchess that everyone knew her as. She glanced at herself in the mirror, seeing that her face was pale and her eyes were slightly red rimmed, but she could play it off. Stress from the attacks by Death Watch and the betrayal by House Viszla could easily explain all of it. She just had to play it off as best she could.
--
“Some other time then…”
Satine cursed Obi-Wan’s former padawan’s timing in everything as she stepped away, Obi-Wan’s words ringing in her ears. Maybe they could have a decent conversation about where they stood but it just wasn’t destined to happen. She made her way back to her bedchamber and settled down again. She slowly removed the remainder of her headdress and ran her hands through her hair. She would have to compose herself before they landed on Coruscant but she could allow herself just a moment or two.
She wasn’t going to cry at least at this point. She was far more composed than she was before, but that did nothing to stop the war that was waging in her heart. What was she supposed to do? She had thought that maybe since they hadn’t seen each other in a long time that she could move on, but hearing him tell her that he would have left the Jedi Order for her sent the alpha in her reeling.
Tell him to stay, omega belongs at our side.
She shook her head, trying to silence the words of her inner Alpha as she had done so many times before. That part of her wanted her to use an Alpha Command to make sure Obi-Wan never left her side, but no, she wouldn’t. If Obi were to be by her side, she wanted him to make the conscious decision to. She wouldn’t force his hand. That wasn’t who she was and she knew that he would resent her if she did.
A knock on her door startled her out of her thoughts. “You can enter.” She felt relieved that her voice didn’t betray her warring thoughts. And of course, who was to enter the room but the man who was at the center of it.
“I noticed you weren’t eating anything at dinner, Satine, and I brought you a little something from the kitchen. You need to eat something small.” Obi-Wan smiled and set two plates on the desk. She was going to refute him and say she wasn’t hungry, but her stomach growled, her appetite returning full force. He gave her a smirk as she reached and grabbed at the plate, starting to eat. Around him, her walls fell and she ate with little decorum. He had seen her at her worst, so why did she have to keep up the facade. He started to eat from the other plate, a lot more composed than she felt. “I knew you’d be hungry.”
“Oh?” She swallowed the piece of bread in her mouth and arched an eyebrow. “And how, pray tell, did you know?”
“You went through a great ordeal like that and hadn’t eaten since before the Coronet departed. Anxiety and adrenaline kept you from feeling it before, but now that you’re calming down, I knew you’d want to eat something. You were the same when we were on the run.” She felt herself flush at his memories of her. He was saying so much, and yet not the words she necessarily wanted to hear…
“We should talk, Obi.” She said as she set her plate aside, feeling satiated for the time being. This would allow her to focus on the conversation at hand. “About what you said before, about how you were willing to leave the Jedi order for me.”
He was quiet, and she was certain that he was going to leave, but he didn’t. “I meant every word, Satine. Had you asked, I would have stayed in a heartbeat. Being separated from you… from what is essentially my other half, was torture. You would come to mind so frequently, and I’d be tempted to reach out to you, but then I got Anakin as a padawan, and the war was going on… I knew that I couldn’t do anything.” His fingers moved and rested at the spot where his mating mark resided. “The Jedi Code forbids attachments, but I cannot deny any more that I am not attached to you. You are my alpha, the other half of my being, and with your permission, Duchess, perhaps we can try something that goes against the code but not against our very natures.”
She tried to not get her hopes up, but she could feel her heart begin to swell. She would never ask him to leave the order, but she wanted him with her. She was tired of denying her feelings and could tell that he was too. Perhaps a compromise is in order.
“What do you have in mind, Ben?”
“I will still be a Jedi, I owe it to my troops and to Anakin and Ahsoka, but on my off time I will do my best to come visit you. I will stop by as much as I can while still partaking in my Jedi duties and as soon as the war is over, I will leave the order and take my place at your side.”
“You’re forsaking your beloved Jedi Code for me?” Satine was in complete shock, unsure how to respond. She had never thought that Obi-Wan would ever do that. He was the model Jedi in all shape and form, and she thought that he was never going to be hers, not fully.
“For us, Satine.” His head ducked for a moment, and she realized he was waiting on her approval. Much like her, he would never do anything that would push her too far. “And I’m not forsaking it. I’m just… bending the rules much like I know my wayward former padawan is doing.”
Her next words left her mouth before she really could have realized it. “My dear Obi-Wan, I have waited what feels like thousands of years for you to tell me this, and I don’t think I could wait any longer. I love you, Obi, and I would like that very much.”

so I haven’t watched the untamed yet
but in typical me fashion I have started reading fanfiction what is my problem I have so much due tomorrow the fuck
and I know, in the depths of my stupid emotional heart, that Jiang Cheng is my fave
the same way that Anakin Skywalker is my fave. I mean, I love Luke more than anything, and Obi-Wan is the best the BEST for loneliness!angst and survivor’s guilt and also the dry goddamn wit and the “how far can you push one person” levels of endurance
but Anakin Skywalker is my fave
if the troubled birds quote “he had an uncontrollable temper that made him literally insane when angry but he was good-looking” can describe them, then yes, they are my fave.
also worthy of consideration - I like Caranthir, Celegorm, and Maedhros the most out of all the Feanorians. Caranthir and Jiang Cheng give off the same energy, except Jiang Cheng is probably worse because he’s the youngest child, and being the youngest child myself, there is miles and miles and miles of entitlement to attention and preference, and soooo many feelings of inadequacy that nothing you can do can ever change (so why bother, right? I mean, I am beyond glad I’m not a middle child, I have enough issues thank). I love feral!characters who are angry and do bad things and hurt people and I also love the characters who are proud, who will not apologize or bend even though they do more damage to their loved ones and to themselves by refusing to change. (Interestingly enough, I find angry!Dean winchester to be fascinating to watch, basically cause his competence at killing things is sexy but I do not consider Dean to be a fave character. Angry!Sam though, he would fit into what I’m saying. But Sam had the anger Cage!bent out of him and so *shrugs*) I just... it’s one of the things I love about stories with characters who do bad things. They’re not just faceless monsters, they’re not cartoon villians. They are people who hurt, and want, who have been hurt by others, who think they HAVE to do what they are doing, and so they do what they have always done. Because if they stop, if they look for one second beneath the anger and the pain, they would drown. You can’t go back, and so the path that you walk is the path that will dominate your life, for the rest of your life. How can you apologize when you keep doing the thing that is causing harm?
if you can change, than you could have changed before. if you were better, you never would have fallen so far. but there is something monstrous inside, and it eats away every soft touch, every outstretched hand, every hope. better to embrace the truth, better to push everyone away, better to hold onto anger. then you can fight, then you can stand tall, then you can survive; you can rage against the unfairness. It has made you bitter, it has made you cruel. You can make them all hurt. where else can that hurt go? The hurt that is inside? The hurt tearing you apart? Better to rage than to give in, better to hate than forgive. Better to hate than need forgiveness. What could forgiveness count? too much has happened for forgiveness. There is no way back across the river Sirion, as a Feanorian would say.
you have to keep your anger wrapped tightly in your fist. hold on to the hurt. How else could you stand it? How else could you ignore the howling emptiness inside you, the well of grief that has no end?
I added a couple paragraphs of Stars Wars Return of the Jedi Anakin Skywalker fanfic because I had things to say and it seemed like Anakin could say them, so that’s under the cut. Whoops.
I think about Anakin Skywalker, trapped in a suit, unable to feel the touch of another’s hand, unable to feel the light of the sun, unable to feel the whisper of a warm breeze. Unable to smile, to see through his own eyes. Unable to turn from his dark path.
Until the end. When his son said, I need you, Father help me. Father, father, how could he be a father? He was a monster, burned and shattered, and held together with pain and a promise of vengeance. He was a faceless horror, attack dog and executioner. Kinslayer (ha!). Who would claim him as family? How could this boy claim him as family, while his friends died in the battle around them?
But he did. Father, help me. And Anakin Skywalker, the boy born in the light of the twin sons, the boy who wanted to be loved, who wanted family and safety and peace, looked out through Darth Vader’s mask and saw his son, his son crying for his help. Saw his master, with lightning at his fingertips and sadistic delight on his face. Father, I need you, help me.
My son. Padme’s son. What heart did Darth Vader have to give? What heart could survive in a Sith? What could he do to stop his master, what could anything amount to, after so long?
Father, there is still good in you.
Darth Vader could do nothing.
Anakin Skywalker could save his son. His son, his son, he had promised to love his son. His hands had trembled against Padme’s belly when she told him the news. Her hands had stroked his hair. They had laughed. They had been so young. It had felt like flying when Padme placed her hands in his, the weightlessness of hurtling over an edge, leaning into the fall, daring the ground to meet you, daring gravity to catch you and pull you into the crash, her hand in his, his heart full of sunlight. what could gravity do to such a heart? what force could stop him? Anakin, you’re going to be a father.
Anakin was motionless, trapped in the center of a deadened husk, the ground rushing up to meet him. What force indeed. He had been falling for so long, he was insensate to it, the sickening lurch of nothingness beneath him, of nothing that could stop him. How much further could he fall? What would ever be enough? There was nothing there, nothing beneath him. Some days he was glad, because he would shatter such a foundation upon impact. Some days, he could convince himself the fall was over, a headrush, a bad dream. How could he still be falling if the abyss was all he could see? Father, help me. Please.
Once, Anakin had known. Once, Anakin had leaned into the fall and dared gravity to reach out its hands and pull him to the ground and slipped, laughing, laughing, from its grasp. Once, Anakin had loved, and was loved in return. His son, his son, his son had a smile full of sunlight and soft eyes. His son had a face etched in pain. His son had spoken without bitterness, without weapon. His son, letting go of his rage, His son, palms upturned.
His son, reaching out. There was the ground, after decades of the endless, bottomless dark. Anakin had longed for it, dreaded it, feared it, He had been afraid for so long. How had he done it, once? How had he leaned into the fall, unafraid? He had been falling for so long, what could lift him from it? He was pieces frayed and shattering, what could catch him? What could stop him now, with a heart full of hatred and hands made of ruin?
Father, please.
There is still good in you, I can sense it. The conflict.
Let go of your hate.
He was so weary. His hands shook. How could the sense memory that overcame him then, how could it still be his? his hands, his real hands pushing the controls of his pod-racer forward, knowing that he had to win. Knowing that he would. His hands on Padme’s skin, leaning into her kiss. She would recoil from his touch now, and she would be right to do so. What could he feel, through murderous, monstrous hands of her softness? He had held her tightly, in the fist of his love, his desperate, violent love pouring from his fist, outstretched. Fire raged around them. Fire raged within him, from him. Her words of love choked in lies. Her lies suffocated by his love, his powerful love. Padme’s hands rising, useless. Padme’s hands, curled-in.
Luke’s hand, outstretched. Padme’s son, his, theirs. He had a son, still; still, after everything, even though his son knew. Obi-Wan would have told him everything, everything that Anakin had ruined and yet his son could not hold onto hate. It was such an easy hate to hold; it fell from his grasp (human, mechanical, like Anakin’s own, Anakin who had maimed his son, his son, who looked to him for salvation; his son, whom he could save, if he could just, if he just could...) as water falls from hands clean. His son, after such grief and betrayal, with a heart made full in sunlight, asking --
Anakin leaned into the fall and was saved.

obianidala + 001 for the ask meme?
Thanks for sending this! I love this ship so much.
1. When I started shipping it if I did: I didn’t get into Obianidala until after I got in with the Start Wars fandom here on tumblr! I’ve always been and Obikin simp, but honestly never connected terribly much with Padme until then.
2. My thoughts: Honestly they deserve each other. They’ve been through so much shit, and I think with better communication they could have saved the galaxy. They’re so perfect together.
3. What makes me happy about them: They just love so much. All of them. They want each other to be happy and they would do anything to protect that.
4. What makes me sad about them: THE CANON.
5. Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Plotlines centered around them cheating on each other. Treating Obi-Wan like a child.
6. Things I look for in fanfic: Communication! The most important part of poly relationships.
7. Who i’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Honestly I try to stay in my lane about it, but i’m a STICKLER about my Prequels ships. It’s fun to explore different dynamics with outside characters, but in an endgame sense, I only go in for Obi-Wan with Ani +/- Dala. Anakin with Obi and/or Dala. Padme gets a little more leeway because I like her in Lesbians with her assorted handmaidens or Satine.
8. My happily ever after for them: Together in some quiet corner of the galaxy raising the twins with Ahsoka popping in from time to time to keep them up to date on her Adventures.
9. Who is the big spoon/little spoon: Rotation. Anakin and Padme usually take turns being in the middle. Anakin likes it the most. I think it would be too overwhelming for Obi-Wan at first, but he gradually warms up to it and joins the rotation.
10. What’s their favorite non-sexual activity: Passing quiet time together. They live in a very busy galaxy. Sometimes they just need some quiet time together where Obi-Wan and Padme read and Anakin tinkers with his projects and they just clock out for a while.

For the questions meme: 3, 11, 16, 30, 31, and 39! :)
Thanks for the ask, anon!
3. Favourite character from Prequels?
Obi-Wan Kenobi, no contest. He is a quintessential Jedi and there is no one better.
11. Which planet would you want to call home?
Probably Coruscant, just because I wanna live in the Jedi Temple. and that’s where Obi-Wan is so I can give him all the hugs
16. Have you read any Star Wars books?
Yep. I’ve read a lot of books that center around Obi-Wan (surprise, surprise) like the Jedi Apprentice series which I absolutely adore and the legendary ROTS novelisation. Apart from those, I’ve read: Labyrinth of Evil, Rogue Planet, Kenobi, and some others that I can’t remember right now.
Some books on my to-read list: Master and Apprentice, Wild Space, Gambit, From a Certain Point of View.
30. Do you have any headcanons?
Well, a lot of my headcanons are mostly widely-accepted fanon. So, I’ll skip over those and share some others:
Mace and Qui-Gon were friends since they were kids. The two of them and Tahl were a menace.
After Qui-Gon died, Mace looked out for Obi-Wan a lot, which is how they become friends.
After a Padawan’s braid is cut during Knighting, I headcanon they usually gift it to their Master to honour and thank them for their teaching. So when Anakin gives his to Padme in the 2003 TCW, I imagine some angst on Obi-Wan’s part, because really that braid means a lot more to Obi-Wan than to her. There are more romantic things to give your wife than your hair, Anakin.
I like to headcanon what Obi-Wan did with his braid, but ultimately I think he cut if off before his official Knighting ceremony so that he could burn it on Qui-Gon’s pyre. Also, I imagine his Knighting is one of the worst days of his life, at least until Garen and his friends drag him out for drinks.
There’s also a lot of stuff I miss from Legends so I like to just mash it up with new Canon.
Being chosen as a Padawan is so much more personal than being assigned so I’m sticking with this.
I need that whole Jabiim arc to have happened. Obi-Wan getting ‘killed’ and tortured by Ventress for months? Hell yeah. Padawan Anakin feeling adrift after being assigned to Ki-Adi until he’s Knighted? Hell yeah. Anakin finding Obi-Wan the moment the Sith torture mask comes off? HELL YEAH.
Also books like Labyrinth of Evil have such Good Content so those are definitely still canon to me. Drunk Obi-Wan being such an absolute badass that even Anakin is impressed just has to be canon.
That whole ‘infinite sadness’ conversation is also canon to me.
As much as I enjoy what little I’ve read of Master and Apprentice, Jedi Apprentice really just stays canon to me. Characters like Bant, Garen, Tahl, Xanatos and even Bruck are irreplacable.
31. Have you made any fan content?
Most of the content I make is on my tumblr, so gifsets and meta and all that. I have a bunch on fanfics that I haven’t finished because I keep getting sidetracked by reading other people’s fanfics.
39. If you wrote a 'fix-it fic', what would you write about?
Hmmmm. I really, really love time travel fics because you get to fix things but still have the time traveller angst about their alternate future in which everything went to hell. There are plenty of Obi-Wan time travel fics (never enough that I get tired of reading them), but I think having characters like Qui-Gon or Mace do the time travelling would also be very interesting to write. If Qui-Gon travels back to after Xanatos fell, I’d get to write Qui-Gon trying to do better by Obi-Wan, which is definitely a huge plus.
Definitely any fix-it fic I write would focus a lot on Jedi life and culture, because I love writing about them. I am not one of those fans who think ‘fixing’ Jedi culture would solve all the galaxy’s problems. I personally think that the Jedi did nothing wrong nor should they have to change their rules just because it inconvenienced Anakin. Also writing about Jedi families and lineages would be so much fun.

Fic Rec Bingo
[Image description: a bingo card for fic recs, I will discuss the contents in the post]
Hello y’all! A friend in the TKA discord posted this bingo, and I thought it looked like fun. Went through my bookmarks and found a lot of fics that I’m enthusiastic to recommend. This post will be long, so click under the read-more to see my recs.
A fic you love without knowing the source material Remedial Jedi Theology by MarbleGlove on Ao3 Star Wars, 51k, Teen, genfic, Obi-Wan centric
I must admit that I have very little first-hand knowledge about Star Wars. I saw one of the movies and all I remember was that BB-8 was involved, and I saw half of one of the ones with Darth Vader but I got bored halfway through.
This fic is a lovely piece which focuses on characterization and development of the Jedi as characters. It’s an introspective piece which explores the meaning of the Jedi code, as well as general morality on right and wrong. I feel like this piece made the Jedi order seem rich and vibrant in ways no other Star Wars piece I’ve read has. It’s a very peaceful read that’s paced well to be engaging, and I would recommend it especially to people who like strong world-building.
A fic with a premise that shouldn’t work but does Whispers in Corners by @esamastation, esama on Ao3 Harry Potter / Sherlock crossover, 64k, Teen, Mycroft/Harry
Out of “fics with wild premises”, I think Esama’s works have to take the cake on this one. In this one, an adult Harry Potter lives in the Sherlock unverse. As the Master of Death, he can use the Ring to talk to ghosts, so he becomes a medium to make some money and ends up investigating cases. I’m not sure what to say about this fic except that it works in the way Esama’s pieces tend to. Recommended in general to folk looking for a good time.
A fic you’ve reread several times I set a fire (just to see what it kills) by @wordsformurder , pprfaith on Ao3 Inception, 23k, Not Rated but very nsfw, Arthur/Eames, character study?
I’ve certainly read this fic enough. It’s one of the rare pieces that feels extremely polished and condensed. It’s told through a lot of short scenes over the course of years, and each scene seems carefully picked to include the most meaning in limited paragraphs. Each time I read it, I find something that I overlooked the prior times. There are recurring motifs of lines that gain more and more meaning each time, and the characters are extremely well done.
This is one of the pieces that convinces me that there’s no hard line between “art” and “smut”. It is nsfw and largely centers around interactions between Arthur and Eames. The characterization is spot on for both of them, and they feel dynamic over the course of the story. I highly recommend this piece If you’re feeling up for it. As Inception fanfic does, the characters have some atypical ideas on death and are pretty fucked up. This fic is enticing because, not in spite of, that. I don’t think you’ll need any familiarity with Inception.
A fic you still remember many years later Space Electric series by icarus_chained on Ao3 Marvel, 45k, Mature, JARVIS & Tony Stark-centric, space opera AU
I bookmarked this in 2018, but it’s on my oldest page of Ao3 bookmarks, so I’m inclined to count it.
Sometimes one is really in the mood for AI characters, and sometimes one finds exactly what they’re after with Icarus_chained’s works. I really like the characterization in this series- JARVIS is as much a well developed character as the rest of them, and his thought process is very fitting to him being a sentient AI. Recommend to folk who like AI characters, although you might want to heed the tags.
A comfort fic Sollux: take iit ea2y by @eye-of-orion-lmao , cryogenia on Ao3 Homestuck, 10k, Teen, Sollux <3< Roxy; Sollux <> Aradia, and Sollux &/ Tavros
This is absolutely comfort fic that I’m quite fond of. I’m not sure what I can say about it except that sometimes one really wants a perpetually-stressed character to get to Relax and be happy, and here’s 10k of it.
This piece involves background relationships with Sollux and background worldbuilding, and it’s incredibly well done. The premise is that Roxy brings Sollux to a massage, and Sollux’s ideas of how that fit into his worldview with the quadrant system was a focus of the piece. The author also has an interesting and refreshing take on pitch relationships. Recommend as a comfort piece if you’ve read Homestuck.
A cathartic fic where there’s a will by @captainkirkk, aloneintherain on Ao3 Harry Potter, 8k, Teen, genfic Golden Trio friendships, exploration of death
We can all agree that making a grade schooler responsible for the fate of the Wizarding world and having his friends die around him is perhaps Not Ideal, and this fic explores Harry’s understanding of death through him drafting wills and planning for after he’s gone.
It’s a reflective piece that feels like giving Harry a space for processing all that goes around him. “Cathartic” is really a good description. It isn’t fluff, but neither does it leave me feeling drained. Recommend to those who are fond of the reflective pieces.
A fic you’d print and put on your bookshelf a girl in the forest of moss and bone by @the-formerone, theformerone on Ao3 Naruto, 66k, Teen, gen, Sakura-centric
Here’s another of the “Sakura gets badass” pieces !! This one’s if Tsunade offered Sakura the opportunity to attempt to become a slug summoner. I say “attempt” because this fic is about the trials Sakura must face in order to be found worthy. I chose this fic for the “would print” category because it has a strong structure to it and I think the format mirrors a novel; it’d take well to printing. Recommended for those who like long character growth pieces!
A fic you associate with a song A deadman’s gun by NohaIjiachi on Ao3 Boku no Hero Acadamia, 65k, Teen, gen, Midoriya mentored by Stain
I read this piece first and then listened to the song it’s titled after, and the song fits really well. It fit the theme of the story and Midoriya’s growth.
It’s a canon-divergence piece in which Midoriya unintentionally gets mentored by Stain, the Hero Killer villain. I really like how the author shaped Midoriya’s character. His core tenants of wanting to help people are all still here; his means are just different. This piece is easy to get invested in and it made me emotional at the end. Highly recommend to folk who like the longer pieces.
A fic that inspires you follow these roads to where your heart goes by @cloud-piercer, halcyonine on Ao3 The King’s Avatar, 21k, Teen, Zhang Jiale / Sun Zheping, road trip!
This piece has a really lovely atmosphere to it that I’m not sure how to describe, except that it seems like a piece of healing. When I first read it, I hadn’t thought much about Zhang Jiale, but this piece set such a strong mood immediately. I’m not sure how the piece inspires me, but it feels right to say that it does. It’s certainly given me an Appreciation for ZJL. It’s just one of those pieces that is good for the soul to read. Highly recommend to those who like atmospheric pieces and also are familiar with The King’s Avatar, I don’t think I’d pick this one if I were unfamiliar with the source haha.
A fic that brought you on board with a new ship Scarlet and Bible Black by @paratactician, paraTactician on Ao3 Homestuck, 12k, Mature, Rose <> Sollux, Rose beating grimdark with help
This fic immediately got me on board with Rose and Sollux moirallegiance. It largely takes place inside Rose and Sollux’s consciousness, as Sollux teaches Rose how to fight the manifestation of the grimdark inside her brain.
I really like the interactions between the characters. Even though the situation is tense, the characters still banter about the plural form of “lusus” using technical/historical grammar precedents and are clearly enjoying one another’s company. Also has some interesting ideas on the quadrant systems. I’d recommend this in general, it’s an all-around quite nice piece. Do give it beyond the first chapter if you try it, though, the two interact starting chapter 2.
A fic you wish could be a movie Yesterday Upon The Stair by PitViperOfDoom on Ao3 Boku no Hero Academia, 424k, Teen, mostly gen, Deku sees ghosts
Another prompt I didn’t think I’d fill, but here we are. For what it’s worth, I prefer this piece as a fanfic, but I think it would take decently well to a movie because there’s a lot of action which would be fit for visual storytelling.
In this piece, Deku sees ghosts, but mostly says he’s quirkless because nobody believes him that it’s a real quirk. I like that Deku stays kind and caring. Recommended for folk who want a long read but a chill one.
A fic that led to you making friends with the author devils all around you by @synoshian, Synoshian on Ao3 The King’s Avatar, 5k, Teen, Sun Xiang / Ye Xiu, Unhealthy Relationship
Another fic that’s... very much unhealthy relationships with fucked up characters. Sun Xiang is clearly trying his best, but he’s.... well, struggling. To me the main “obstacle” in this piece is Sun Xiang’s pride and his confidence, I think he acts arrogant in order to try to hide a lack of confidence from himself, and that.. well. Causes issues. It’s a piece with Sun Xiang fixating on Ye Xiu. He’s the source of all his problems and also the target of his jealousy and desire.
Not a happy piece and I’d recommend only to folk who are fans of unhealthy relationship pieces. I certainly liked the piece- I like it a Lot, which led to Synoshian and I chatting haha. And there’s a sequel now! It’s really well done but dark pieces are not everyone’s cup of tea so be mindful.
Free Space Subject: A Comprehensive Report by BonesOfBirdWings on Ao3 Boku no Hero Academia, 78k, Teen, gen, analyst!Deku !
I’m quite fond of pieces which aren’t entirely narration, and this is one of the pieces that tells a story in “multimedia” snippets. Emails, newspaper articles, excerpts from books and essays, interview transcripts, and more (plus a touch of narration). Plus, Deku is an analyst! Which is a career choice that I tbh think suits him better than canon. Recommended in general, it’s a nice piece.
A fic you’ve gushed about IRL Victory Series by @somewherefarfromvictory, ewfte on Ao3 Naruto / BNHA crossover, 96k, Mature, gen, Todokashi!!!
Here’s one of my all-time favorites. The premise is that Kakashi from Naruto is reborn as Todoroki from Boku no Hero Academia, keeping all his memories but having to adjust to a new life.
This fic does really well at characterizing Todokashi, taking into account Kakashi’s trauma from the past life and all the shit Endeavor did to Todoroki. Todokashi feels highly developed and like he drives the narrative. Also, for those of you who like badass protagonists who overwork themselves, here you go.
I know crossovers sometimes require a leap of faith, but this piece is incredibly worth it. Recommended for anyone who knows either BNHA or Naruto (you don’t need both), or, I guess, someone who just wants a good time.
A fic you associate with a place Lotus Bloom translated by @syncogon, Syncogon on Ao3, and sunsetfire on Ao3 The King’s Avatar, 10k, Mature, Sun Zheping/Zhang Jiale
This is such a lovely piece that I am really fond of. It’s one of the atmospheric pieces where setting really feels like a part of the piece, so I associate it with Kunming, where it takes place.
This is perhaps my favorite SZP/ZJL fic that I’ve read so far, and it got me Emotional about the pairing. It’s just such a lovely piece- soft, pining but not like the dramatic kind, the casual intimacy between the characters is So nice. Highly recommend if you’re familiar with The King’s Avatar.
A fic that made you gasp out loud The Northern Caves by @nostalgebraist, nostalgebraist on Ao3 Original Work, 52k, Teen, gen
This fic.... is hard to describe. It’s an original work, but it’s so innately twined to fandom culture that I absolutely think Ao3 is the right place for it. The story is about a group of characters on an online forum who are trying to make sense of a nonsensical draft for the next book in a series published after an author’s death. The story is told through online message boards and narration and takes the form of a write-up after the events have occured. The formatting was incredible and it really felt like a message board that could exist out there! It felt really authentic to how fans interact! It also made me nostalgic for the days of message boards that were just on the way out when I was old enough to be online haha.
This piece is intense. It builds really well and the tension is exceptionally well done. Highly recommend to everyone who’s prepared for the intense read that it’ll be.
A fic that you found at the right time not even a blade of grass could grow translated by @dtriad, Dayadvham on Ao3 The King’s Avatar, 6k, Teen, Tang Hao/ Zhang Jiale, unrequited attraction
I’m not entirely sure how to take this bingo square, but I don’t think I would have liked it as much as I did if I weren’t in the fandom. I found the piece under circumstances for me to really enjoy it, surely that counts.
This piece... well, I have an appreciation for unhealthy relationship fics, and this sure satisfies. The main character of the fic is a forgettable, kinda rude background character in canon, and in this fic he’s contentious but believable. As much as I’d dislike Tang Hao in person, his characterization in here makes me understand his attitude. Would recommend to people who like fics that are exploration pieces of the characters being a mess. Not a happy piece but definitely an engaging one.
A fic that made you laugh out loud Shadowbound AU series by @curlicuecal, CurlicueCal on Ao3, and @rollerskatinglizard, LaughingStones on Ao3. Homestuck, 140k, Teen to Explicit, Gamzee/Dirk, really cool AU
This series takes place in an AU that I’m not familiar with, but I could easily follow what was going on and key points were explained as needed. It follows a relationship between Gamzee and Dirk (and other characters! The two are committed but not exclusive, which is nice to see in fic). What’s really well done about this piece is how in-character everybody feels. They have Gamzee’s voice down incredibly well, and the pieces are funny! Recommended in general, do be aware there’s a lot of nsfw (and it’s really well done and in character, so).
A fic with a line (or two) that you’ve memorized won’t even plant a garden by ShanaStoryteller on Ao3 Good Omens, 4k, Not Rated (slightly nsfw), Crowley-centric
The Absolute Banger of a line is “She says, “Adam ate the fruit I gave him. He knows what I want him to know.””, because like,,,,, man, that Makes Sense, and give Eve agenda 2k20.
A reflective piece about Crowley over the years, starting with Eve just after the Garden and ending with Aziraphale. Genderfluid crowley who get she/her pronouns when she’s a woman! I’m not sure how to describe this piece, but it’s nice. Recommended for those in the mood for a quieter piece.
A fic that embodies something you value Thoughts of Slytherin by RiaZ on Ao3 Harry Potter, 5k, General Audiences, gen, OC for Slytherin values
Not to vaguepost @ jkr but did you really need to make a quarter of 12 year olds the “evil house”? This piece fixes that. Shows the anti-slytherin prejudice present in the Harry Potter universe while displaying such fierce positive values that make Slytherins proud to be Slytherin even with the prejudice. Takes place during the war. It’s a nice piece, I recommend it.
A favorite AU These Hues Yet Hard to Hold by sprx77 on Ao3 Naruto, 4k, General Audiences, gen/multi, platonic soulmates !!!
I am a Really big fan of platonic soulmate pieces and this fic did it so well! Premise of “everyone influential in your life leaves a mark the first time you touch them”, intensity dependent on how important they’ll be to you. This piece is told in snippets around the varying soulmarks that the main character cast has, and it shows a lot about the relationships between the characters. Really lovely fluff, I recommend even to folk who aren’t normally big on soulmates.
A fic you stayed up too late to finish reading One Man’s Hero by @mataglap, mataglap on Ao3 Overwatch, 99k, Mature, Hanzo/Jesse
So I’ll start this off by admitting that I haven’t played Overwatch. A friend recommended this fic to me and I’m glad she did because it’s a great piece. I don’t know how much of this is canon and how much is an AU, but the characters are well developed and their interactions feel authentic. It’s one of the really fun “sexual tension” pieces, with a high energy mood, so give it a shot if you like that.
A fic that made you feel seen all the words of time and space by kagshina on Ao3 Haikyuu, 47k, Teen, Iwaizumi/Oikawa, online friends!
This is a really lovely feel-good piece. Oikawa and Iwaizumi meet as kids as internet friends, and the fic follows their friendship as they grow up. I read this piece when my best friend was someone I’d never met in person, and it feels authentic to the... way someone can integrate into your life with today’s technology. A lovely fluff fic, I recommend in general.

I’d say yes but you wouldn’t want me anyway
an Obidala fanfic
-
August Writing Challenge
Day 2: Rare Pair
Rating: General
Word Count: 1,844
Summary: Padme struggles with her feelings about a passionate kiss that left her breathless. The problem? The man she actually wants won’t even look at her.
Or in shipper terms- a look at the Obidala leg stroke.
ao3, ff.net
-
Did I ever think I would be here, fighting for my life in the center of a wide sandy arena? Crouching high on a stone pillar? Surrounded by jeering aliens?
Yes, and no.
This isn’t the sort of thing you expect to experience in my line of work. Ambassadors are known for talking, communicating. It’s cowards like Dooku that choose to throw their guests into pits with monsters. And yet, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to take things into my own hands to succeed in a mission.
Blood drips down my raw back, stinging, and I wince. Oh yes, there’s that too. I squint down into the crowd. Hundreds maybe thousands of winged bug like creatures shriek and buzz in the stands. My ears are sore from the screaming. And the sun glares down like a furnace, harsh and hot.
“Padme!”
I glance down to the foot of the pillar; Anakin’s gotten control of that reddish bull creature. It bucks it’s body and swings its large neck to the side but Anakin holds on, cupping a hand over his mouth to yell.
“Jump!”
Surely not? But he cups his hand and yells again. Exhilaration thrums through my chest, much stronger in my heart than the fear. Of the height. Of the arena. Of death.
So I jump.
Pain shoots up through my body as my knees jolt into the back of the bull. My hands scrabble around Anakin’s neck to keep from falling. But I lean into his strong back, pressing a quick kiss to his ear. I’d been aiming for his cheek. The peck earns me a small grin. I’m sure he’d return the gesture if we had time. Of course, but we have no time. He jerks the rope in his hands and we race across the arena floor. Bouncing and clomping along with the bull’s gait.
Suddenly a hand tugs on my knee and Obi-Wan is clambering up the side of the bull. Bracing myself against Anakin I reach down to pull Obi-Wan up. His hand is wide and smooth and covers mine. He’s just as safe as we are now. I move to reassure myself he’s really there behind us but a bump causes my hand to miss him. I brush his knee?
Thigh?
Leg.
Doesn’t matter.
At the same time his hand glides across my shoulder to steady himself. But his touch lingers a second too long. I pause. My breath is short and each swallow hurts. The sun blazes, heat rising off the arena floor but Obi-Wan’s body heat is far more noticeable. It’s such an innocent thing, something he can’t control. Yet it distracts from the chaotic roar of voices. Have his hands always been this soft?
I grip the edge of Anakin’s tunic, breathing deeply.
Anakin.
Anakin.
Anakin Skywalker.
I press my cheek against his back, forcing myself to remember why I’m clinging to him. I can still remember the memory of Anakin’s chapped but gentle lips kissing me. If I focus I can still feel it too. Like it’s happening right now. So tenderly, yet with a passion I’d never felt before. I’m left breathless, my mind blank in the memory of his kiss. My eyelids flutter closed and suddenly I am one with that moment.
-
Our shoulders brush, hands unable to reach for each other. Straining to be closer to him, my arms register an ache, I’m pulling to be free of the chains. And yet something in my chest begins to hurt. My heart aches worse than my arms. Because I know this will be our last.
Only, if I take a second to examine the thumping in my chest…
It’s strange. This pain in my heart feels too familiar to be fear, too old to be regret for a last kiss. This ache has been with me longer than I’d like to admit. It doesn’t belong to Ani at all. It belongs to a completely different man. So I pause, letting my eyes open a fraction.
Leaning further into me, his mouth still moves. He must sense too that this could be his last chance. I want to lean away but I can’t bring myself to.
Why am I really kissing Ani? It’s not for any pure reason. It’s not for any kind reason either. This young man promises to leave everything for me. How can I ask for more? The thing I have always wanted he is giving me for nothing. Not asking for anything in return, just to love him.
Suddenly this perfect kiss feels wrong. As though-
The cart we stand in jolts forward, the heavy doors in front of us begin to creak as they’re pushed open. Blinding light hits us and I squint, cringing away from the brightness.
-
And then the present crashes back into me! Noise and pain and the smell of sweat and blood- blazing sun brighter than before. Gritty sand scratches in my throat as I swallow and hot razor blades throb across my skin. And-
Anakin.
The weight of him is comforting against the screaming, cheering. He is here in front of me, acting as a shield from the hostile noise around us. He protects me with his body. And the bull is sturdy under my weight, real.
But I’m tense just like Anakin is tense. Every muscle in his back is taught, shoulders straining forward, body heaving with breath. And sweat, dripping down his neck. The perspiration shines on the dark leather of his gear. I gasp for a full breath to fill my lungs all the way.
Anakin has promised to break his vows for me .
Here I sit, making a checklist of his movements, the strength of his back. Still I can’t keep my thoughts on him. Instead of relishing his proximity I am desperately aware of Obi-Wan’s body.
Both men are next to me: one’s kiss lingers on and the other’s warmth heats me past comfort. One man has promised me everything. The other has promised me nothing.
Obi-Wan has never kissed me. He has never held me. He has never spoken a single flowery word that could set my hopes up.
He has never given me a reason to think of him.
And that is the true source of my heart ache. Only one of them is a noble man. And he is the one that will never look at me.That brief moment of contact has set my head spinning when Anakin has kissed me as though I am the only woman in the world. I am agonizing about one second of touch.
Because it is all I’ll ever get.
With a jolt my thoughts are cut short. Anakin yanks the make-shift reigns hard, causing the three of us to slide backward. Obi-Wan’s cuffed hands grope at the shred of fabric on my back and I cry out. Jerking away from the metal cuffs and his biting finger nails, I cling to Ani to keep from falling.
Obi-Wan isn’t so lucky.
By some miracle he manages to roll as he falls off the bull’s back, but lands on the sandy ground head first.
“Anakin! Stop,” I don’t give him time to respond as I scrabble down to a winded Obi-Wan. It doesn’t even occur to me that we might have stopped so suddenly for a reason. All I can think of is Obi-Wan.
I wrap an arm around the older Jedi, tugging him to his feet. He accepts my help, smiling a bit and waving his hand to explain his fall away. I don’t return it. Now’s not a good time for jokes.
And only then do I see the new enemies. Destroyer droids. They roll and click and jump into a circle around the three of us. Brown bots with double guns each, clacking and shifting like armored beetles. Dooku is yelling something up in the stands, but he’s too far away for it to matter.
Anakin is frozen, hands still raised holding the chain. He doesn’t move and I follow his lead. But my arm secretly tightens around Obi-Wan’s middle, if this is the only chance I get…
Well, it doesn’t seem I’ll be getting many more chances.
Anakin turns quickly to check on us, maybe to try to make out what Dooku and his men are making such a commotion about. I squint at him, still wary of the enemies surrounding us.
Without warning, bodies start raining from the sides of the arena, and chaos descends. The jeering mass in the stands burst into the air, buzzing and shrieking . Rolling away from us in all directions, the destroyer droid’s attention seems caught up in the new movement.
Obi-Wan and I exchange a look and duck, running for Anakin.
I swing my head to the right, the left, up to the screaming swarm. All around us lights flash as the area floor fills with more and more people. What I had perceived at first as falling bodies are not actually bodies but hundreds of Jedi! Rushing toward us, at the droids, at the bug-like aliens. More droids begin to march from the sides of the arena into a growing fray. I hadn’t imagined that my ears could hurt anymore than before. But the noise is greater now.
We reach Anakin, very much alive. I’m panting and Obi-Wan can’t think of a single witty thing to say.
Obi-Wan is pulling away from me, questions on his face and in his mouth, moving to Anakin. Only then do I realize that I had still been holding onto him. That old ache in my chest twinges. I barely have time to feel it as Anakin slides from the bull’s back to meet us. What they say to each other is lost in the noise but confusion is obvious in their faces. As I try to focus on their words and not on the roar of fighting, Anakin reaches for me. His hand grabs onto mine, still keeping eye-contact with Obi-Wan. They’ve agreed, it’s time to fight. With a quick squeeze of my hand, Anakin let’s go. He gives me a longing look but I can’t return it.
And then they’re striding into the maylay, both catching lightsabers tossed by a faceless ally. I sprint across the expanse of sand, snatching up a discarded blaster.
I’m actually glad for this distraction, if I can call the battle something so mild. I don’t want to dwell on my feelings anymore. I’m exhausted from the intense indecision of the afternoon. Today I’ve felt more like the little girl I was on Naboo than I have in years. I’ve let my emotions run rampant. Wild. My mind has spun in a downward spiral as I try to justify my obsession and it’s only left me with a bitter dissatisfaction. I can’t hold Anakin the way I’ve been trying to tell myself I want to. And still… I’ve no hope of ever approaching Obi-Wan.
But now it’s time to put all of that away.
Diplomacy doesn’t rest.
Neither do its enemies.

A/N: yeh. it’s V late but this daggum fic was such a struggle to write. I’m v thankful that I persevered though. it was worth it.

At First Sight
Summary: The first time one member of each of the three iconic couples of Star Wars realised they were in love - or perhaps they did not realise, per se, but fell anyhow. In short snippets. Anakin and Padme, Obi-Wan and Satine, and Han and Leia. Oneshot.
I think line breaks still aren’t working on tumblr mobile, so I’ve put a > for every new section.
>"Boy, get in here now!”
Watto’s Huttese was as gravelly as the fan switches Anakin was in the process of cleaning, but Anakin dropped the filthy rag and jogged into the shop immediately; he knew by experience that any delay would be met with consequences.
It was only after he had barely avoided a clipped ear and climbed on the countertop to watch Watto’s shop as instructed that he saw her.
She seemed a little older than he, but far from an adult; her head turned from the tall man in the tan poncho to face Anakin just as he raised his own; their eyes met in shared curiosity.
And Anakin, in the inexplicable and instinctual way he sometimes understood things simply by looking at them, felt a surge of something far-off and aching, light-years in the distance.
The girl smiled at him, politely. The smile did not look any less genuine for it, and it lit her face with a light that seemed to lance through space-time. She simply appeared, for a moment, like the entire galaxy existed to provide a backdrop for her smile.
In the Spice-taverns by the cargo bays, Deep-space traders, after one or two stiff drinks, would often tell of the angels of the moons of Iego; celestial beings with starlight for blood.
And so Anakin Skywalker met Padme Naberrie’s gaze for the first time, and said, “Are you an angel?”
>“It seems strange to shed blood for a cause not your own.”
Obi-Wan glanced up at her words, one hand still grasping a branch with which he had been tending the campfire.
“Duchess?” he murmured. Qui-Gon was scouting ahead, and so she could not have addressed any other than himself.
Satine met his gaze unflinchingly, plasma-singed hair curling around her cheekbones. “You killed a man today.”
“For your sake,” Obi-Wan countered, eyes falling back to the hungry flames.
“You did not have to.”
Obi-Wan’s fingers tightened on the branch; it smouldered at its end, smoking in the flickering firelight. “Yes, I did,” he replied, and perhaps it was less eloquent of a reply than usual, but they had been on the run long enough by now that he could see a pattern to their philosophical arguments.
He expected Satine’s cool blue eyes to flare into a blaze brighter than a lightsaber core - beautiful and terrifying all at once, like a blade of words and not of plasma - but they did not.
“Why?” she said, simply. The firelight lined her features with rose gold, limned her shawl-wrapped form in forge-fed steel.
The branch slipped out of Obi-Wan’s fingers, and he found himself looking away.
Why, indeed.
He could say it was his duty to the Republic, an oath sworn to it service from the moment his hair was braided into its padawan braid.
But here, sat across the fire from this duchess, with whom he had spent more hours verbally sparring with than any other person his age, who watched him steadily even now, with hunger in her belliy and firelight in her eyes, he knew it would be a lie.
So Obi-Wan did not reply at all, and strove to ignore the flutter in his heart as Satine tucked a strand of liquid gold behind her ear.
>“Can’t get out that way,” Han said bracingly as lowered his blaster, craning his neck to peer back down the corridor to the control room of the detention center.
“Looks like you managed to cut off our only escape route,” a sharp voice sounded behind him.
Han turned in place to face a pair of irate brown eyes that held a far more determination and confidence that one would have expected given that barely came up to the shoulder-plate of his stolen armour, and Han met the challenge within them with one of his own.
“Maybe you’d like to get back in your cell, your highness,” he said, pointedly.
The princess’s eyes flashed with a verbal duel acknowledged, but then Luke flinched beside them just before a blaster bolt slammed into the wall over their heads, and the group split apart and dove for the barely-sufficient cover of the wall brackets.
There followed a whole lot of yelling - Luke through the comms at Threepio, Han at Luke for ideas to get out of what rapidly seemed to be one of the worser shootouts Han found himself in, Chewie roaring in general, and eventually the princess, who snarled at their incompetence and snatched up Luke’s weapon to blast a hole in a grate bare inches from Han’s right ankle.
Afterwards, Han would never admit that he was startled. Han Solo didn’t startle. But somewhere between “Into the garbage chute, flyboy!” and the ever-closing walls of the trash compactor, he found himself re-evaluating things.
And then the trash compactor ground to a halt, and as the four of them stared at each other and began laughing in giddy, breathless giggles of relief, Han found himself with an armful of a slight, white-clothed form, Leia laughing by his ear.
Later, he would wonder when the princess became Leia.
But it was there, in that murky trash compactor, in grime and grit and filth, that Han first realised how beautiful she was; in that slime-soaked white dress, curls falling out of her hair-buns as she smiled once before getting right back down to the business of rescuing them all.
Because that was what it really was; they might have helped open her cell door, but Leia was the one who rescued them.
Han was in for a whole lot of trouble, he knew. But it didn’t stop him from grinning about it.
END
I do think Anidala, Han/Leia, and Obitine remain three of the most beautiful things in Star Wars. Thanks for reading.

racheloddment replied to your post “Ranking the Star Wars films is so hard because I kind of want to rank…”
how you feel about phantom menace is how I feel about attack of the clones lol. Is it a good movie? Hell no but I have watched it like 900 times and i’ll love my whiny shitty emo son Anakin Skywalker forever
Completely understandable!
Tbh, I feel really attached to AOTC too and maybe I should rank it higher. When I was most active in Star Wars fandom, it was fic that took place either between TPM and AOTC or between AOTC and ROTS that I was usually the most interested in. And when I made Star Wars fanvids, the bulk of the videos was probably footage from AOTC. And we wouldn’t have The Clone Wars series without it.
I think what puts TPM above it so much for me is that ultimately I’m more of an Obi-Wan stan than an Anakin stan, and immediately after TPM came out, I started reading the Jedi Apprentice books as they came out. (Going to the bookstore for the latest Animorphs book and latest Jedi Apprentice book together was a good, good time. That and I find TPM a little less... frustrating as a movie, because I think it leaves a lot still open-ended about how the story will play out, and that’s a fun place to be in with a story.
Really though, I just... love the prequels? It doesn’t matter if they’re not objectively good. I just have warm feelings about the whole thing--the world-building (especially around the Jedi), the costumes, the music, the characters. If I’m being honest, I probably have to rank all of them above all of the new trilogy, because I just don’t think I’ll have the same fuzzy feelings about it ever that I still do for the prequels in spite of everything. (So far, I’m finding the “Star Wars stories” series easier to get attached to, I think. I guess because they directly tie into the older movies so much, and it feels like really high-end fanfic centered around missing-scenes and backstories, and I love that kind of thing.)
Sorry this got long.
#racheloddment#i have such irrational fuzzy feelings about Star Wars in general though#i actually teared up at the 'far far away' text when i saw Solo the other day#which i absolutely recognize as RIDICULOUS

TLJ musings, Spoilers and Opinions ahead
It’s been one and a half day since I’ve seen the movie and I feel like trying to put my thoughts on it into somewhat coherent words now. In my immediate reaction to it, I’ve said that there were more things that I liked than things that I didn’t like -- which still holds and I’ll probably list some below -- but that I couldn’t really say yet whether I liked the movie or not. This is still true as well -- I feel like I need to rewatch it at some point to see how I feel about it then, but overall I’d say that I’ll probably be “alright” with it in the long term, as in, I don’t actively dislike it, but I doubt it’ll be a movie that I’ll rewatch a lot.
Which is fine!
After leaving the cinema on Thursday, my main feeling about the movie could be summed up by saying “this was a lot”. Now that I’ve mulled over it for a while, I’d say that my main qualm with TLJ is that to my personal liking, it focused too much on being surprising and subverting Star Wars tropes. Apparently, for other people the exact same thing is the dealbreaker to why they loved the movie, which is also fine of course (and also interesting to think about), but to me personally, it just didn’t really work. That’s not to say that I wasn’t on edge for the whole span of the movie and that the surprises and twists didn’t get me, because they did! Every single time! So I’m not complaining at all about how they were executed. The thing is more that now after having seen all of it, I feel like I’m left somewhat clueless about what kind of story the movie actually wanted to tell.
Don’t get me wrong -- I don’t think a movie necessarily needs to have a Clear and Obvious and Stringent Message to be a good movie, and it can be interesting (and it was at some points in TLJ) if a movie questions its own narrative. I thought it was intriguing how the movie started out subverting the Star Wars Hero trope (and I enjoyed Leia’s role in it) and then went ahead to tease us with a typical, wild Star Wars Hero Plot Line in Poe’s, Finn’s, and Rose’s arc nevertheless. But then the trope was subverted again (the scheme failed, the heroes are caught) and again (General Holdo actually had a plan and the heroes weren’t needed after all) and again (her plan is betrayed) and again (she who was set up in contrast to self-sacrificing heroes sacrifices herself for the cause) and again (the First Order comes after the rebels nevertheless) and again (in a mirror image of Poe’s first appearance, Finn has to sacrifice himself to hold them off) and again (no, he doesn’t, Rose saves him) and again (the only way for the rebellion to be kept alive is for Luke to face Kylo Ren alone) and again (but wait, he isn’t actually here) and --
-- well, and all together I felt like the overall plot as well as the characters and their arcs were somewhat subordinated to making these twists and turns happen. Take Holdo for example: I thought she was interesting when she made her first appearance, but in the end it felt to me as if her character was solely introduced for the audience to have a moment of shock when we realize we did her injustice. It didn’t really make sense to me in-universe why she wouldn’t just explain her plan! Or Rey -- to me, it felt like her arc in the second half of the movie was merely a set-up for having the audience be shocked that even though she seems to mirror Luke in ROTJ and seemingly, just for a moment, brings Kylo back to the light side, but behold! No! Just as you thought this was how it was going to happen, he does the Anakin instead and wants to rule the galaxy with her!
And that’s really not to say I didn’t like the path they went down with Kylo Ren in this movie. I was mostly indifferent to him after TFA and thought he was a lot more interesting here. (I also want to say that apart from everything elese, I would have enjoyed the moment mentioned above for the sole reason that as a person who genuinely likes the PT I felt catered towards in this moment. Thank you, TLJ.) It’s just...I feel somewhat similar about TLJ how I would feel about a show that focuses solely on surprising the audience over and over again at the end of each episode by going But Wait, This Is Not Going Down The Way You Thought It Would Be. I enjoy plot twists, and as I said in the beginning, they did work for me, but all in all, it somewhat felt to me like the story wanted to be surprising and clever over anything else. And it’s just a personal preference that two days later, I feel a bit disappointed by that -- or that maybe due to it, there’s not a whole lot that stayed with me after having seen the movie.
Because if I break it down, A Lot Happened, but not a lot happened that brought the story forward. The only revelation was who Rey’s parents were, but after seeing TLJ it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if it turned out it wasn’t the truth after all. Snoke was killed, but we still have no idea what his deal was in the first place -- if he’s so powerful, why did he need Kylo? Where did he come from? How did he manage to corrupt Kylo without being in his vicinity or social circle? Since it seems like he has been around for a while, where was he when the Empire was still a thing? Poe did get his plotline and seems to have been established as the new rebel leader, but Finn’s whole arc seemed to be centered around finding Rey. Except for the fact that the rebels were diminished and are even more out of luck and allies now, we seem to be at roughly the same point where we were after TLJ. And I’m not really, heavily disappointed because there are still a lot of ways to wrap the story up in the third movie! But I’m still, well, disappointed.
To wrap this up, here’s a list of things that I liked:
Luke throwing his lightsaber off the cliff at the beginning. I support him. He deserves a break.
In general, I thought the comic relief worked most of the times
I thought the Force bond scenes were really well edited and managed not to be cheesy (Also correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think Force bonds were a canonical thing before this movie?? Hoo boy someone has been reading fanfic)
Poe getting his own arc and not being supposedly dead for the majority of the movie
Rose as a new character
Yoda making an appearance (and Force ghosts being mentioned, even with an explanation as to why they were absent before) and his conversation with Luke
The fact that Luke finding out about Han’s death was given a (heartwrenching) scene
Actual literal dinosaurs with uncanny human faces stampeding through a Very Loud Metaphor For Capitalism?? Amazing
There was a dramatic disrobe! And a lightsaber sqirmish!
Kinky red guardsmen? Is Snoke a Palpatine fanboy after all? (Probably don’t) find out in the next episode of Star Wars!
Luke’s death scene -- for a moment, when he lowered his lightsaber, I thought he’d Do The Obi-Wan and I was really happy (read: sad) how it happened instead
Luke and Leia’s reunion
Leia being shown to be strong in the Force (even though the way it was executed was a bit questionable in my opinion)
Finn learning how there are people who profit from the war (even though I didn’t particularly care about the code cracker and even though I hope the story doesn’t go down a “the rebels are just as bad” route)
The “there’s no real Good or Bad side, it’s a person’s decisions that matter” line the story seems to go down with respect to the Jedi (even though I hope that doesn’t mean Rey Has To Learn Forgiveness in the next movie)
I thought that it was in general interesting to see how Luke wasn’t the right person to make changes to the ~Jedi Way~ because he clings too much to it or even defines himself over it, but then in a way overcomes it by saying that he’s not the last Jedi?
Leia’s character
And what I didn’t like is:
Finn’s character is so interesting but I feel like we didn’t get to see much of it at all in this one -- no mention of his past, he only ever seemed to interact with Rose and all his actions seemed to be motivated by saving Rey
A possible love triangle/quadruple in episode 9? (softly) don’t
Rose sacrificing herself for her celebrity crush
I liked Luke being critical about the Jedi, but I was salty about his “it was a Jedi who trained Darth Vader” line
BB8 (I’m sorry)
#tlj spoilers#like really heavy spoilers#sorry for clogging your dash with this opinion dump i just needed to put it somewhere#star wars#tlj
