Chapter Four — Peaceful Days
Tumblr media
Ren Jinguji: Happy New Year, Lady. You look great! Simply beautiful.
Masato Hijirikawa: I hope to receive your support this year as well.
In addition, you look just like a traditional Japanese doll.
The two of them smile cheerfully.
Meanwhile….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … Why're you here too? And what's with that getup?
Kurosaki-senpai looks me up and down.
Haruka Nanami: Hijirikawa-san and Jinguji-san invited me.
Since I was at my parents' house, I thought I would come dressed in a kimono.
Today, Kurosaki-senpai and the other two will be starting work on a special New Year's live broadcast for a variety show.
Jinguji-san contacted me just before recording began.
In his message, he invited me to attend the first shrine visit of the year with him once recording was finished.
He also said he would bring Kurosaki-senpai along.
We decided to meet at a quiet shrine near the office.
The general public rarely visits this shrine, so even idols can take their time when they visit.
Haruka Nanami: Happy New Year. Please continue looking after me.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Y-yeah… same here….
We awkwardly exchange greetings and bow to each other.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Exchanging greetings and all is fine, but… what'd ya come all this way for?
Haruka Nanami: For the first shrine visit of the new year. What else?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hah? Shrine visit?
Haruka Nanami: I came after receiving an invite from Jinguji-san, unless… you came all the way without knowing…?
Kurosaki-senpai glares at the other two.
Is it possible that….
Haruka Nanami: Um… did the two of you explain to Kurosaki-senpai?
Jinguji-san beams and shakes his head while Hijirikawa-san averts his eyes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey, you two. What's goin' on?
Didn't you say we were just gonna stop by the office on our way back?
Ren Jinguji: Let's go, Ran-chan.
If you're with a cute girl like the lady here, the gods will surely be pleased and grant you your wish.
As if nothing had happened, Jinguji-san takes hold of one of Kurosaki-senpai's arms.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What're you up to, hey! Making wishes to the gods? How stupid.
I don't believe in that sorta stuff!
Masato Hijirikawa: Kurosaki-san, please don't shout something like that in front of a shrine.
It's asking for divine punishment from above….
Hijirikawa-san takes hold of his other arm.
Given the situation, I have no choice but to follow along.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What the… lemme go!
Jinguji-san and Hijirikawa-san haul Kurosaki-senpai onto the shrine grounds by his arms.
What is this? It's like watching a child visiting the shrine on his third birthday….
Masato Hijirikawa: Here we go!
Kurosaki-san! Please walk properly!
The two of them drag Kurosaki-senpai into the shrine, leaving behind tracks in the gravel.
Tumblr media
If the words "shrine visit" were mentioned from the start, Kurosaki-senpai probably wouldn't want to go.
That was the consensus between Jinguji-san and Hirijikawa-san.
Considering his reaction just now, I can understand their reasoning.
However, I'm participating in the Song Festival with Kurosaki-senpai this year, so it seems they took that into consideration.
Anyway, we manage to reach the inner sanctuary of the shrine where we will make our wishes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hold up, you two!!
Kurosaki-senpai's shout can be heard in front of the offertory box.
Masato Hijirikawa: Y-yes?
Ren Jinguji: What's the matter, Ran-chan?
The two of them look at him blankly.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Just what're you thinking of putting in that offertory box?!
Ren Jinguji: Huh? Well, I was going to put in an offering.
I catch a glimpse of some bills in his hand before they disappear again.
Masato Hijirikawa: Same here, I hadn't planned on putting in anything special….
Like Jinguji-san, Hijirikawa-san is also holding some bills.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Quit playin' with me! What kinda person goes around putting bills in an offertory box?
This is why I can't stand you rich kids.
He steps up to the shrine's offertory box with a commanding stance.
Masato Hijirikawa: Oh no…. I forgot that he has an eccentric obsession with saving money.
Kurosaki-san, please calm down!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You think I'm gonna stay calm 'bout this?!
Kay you guys! We'll go round and say what we think is a fair amount for an offering!
He scowls at us while maintaining his commanding stance.
Haruka Nanami: F-fair amount?!
Is there really such a thing…?
But I have to answer him.
Select the phrase!
Five yen (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: If I recall… five yen represents good luck.
Ren Jinguji: It also represents good relationships. Beautiful, isn't it?
Are you looking for one too?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, no… that wasn't what I….
Masato Hijirikawa: Jinguji, why are you leading the conversation in that direction?
Human relationships are also valuable in work and in business.
It could be interpreted like that too, which is just as important.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oh yeah, business relationships are important.
It all goes back to your daily income, y'see.
And that's that, put away those bills and offer up five yen!
Holding a five yen coin between his fingers, he looks at us sternly.
Ren Jinguji: Hah… guess there's no changing his mind.
Following Kurosaki-senpai's lead, we have our five yen coins ready to throw into the offertory box.
Kurosaki-senpai says it's not good to throw money, so we carefully place our coins inside.
Tumblr media
Forty-five yen (+10 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Now that you mention it, I've heard that forty-five yen is a good amount to offer.
Masato Hijirikawa: Ah yes, because it holds a wish for "forming lasting relationships".
It's a beautiful example of traditional Japanese wordplay, don't you think?
Ren Jinguji: Lasting relationships, huh? Not a bad choice.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: If it's that much, I guess I can offer that.
Everyone nods at the same time. It's a unanimous agreement.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hmm? I only have a fifty yen coin. Guess I won't get any change back….
Masato Hijirikawa: Please don't demand change from the gods!
Ren Jinguji: How about thinking of it as a five yen tip?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don't be such an idiot! He who laughs at one yen will cry over one yen. Every cent counts, y'know.
Kurosaki-senpai firmly holds his head high as he declares that.
Tumblr media
Any amount (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: I don't think there really is a fair amount….
Ren Jinguji: Yep, I've seen people who throw in stacks of bills on the news before.
Masato Hijirikawa: I believe that's an exception, but… Well, I think it depends on the feelings of the person making the offering.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: This is pointless. If you’re gonna waste your money at a place like this, you should be usin' it on something beneficial to yourself.
Listen up! An offering should be up to 999 yen. I won't accept anything more than that, so put those notes away.
Kurosaki-senpai snaps his fingers and declares the limit for an offering.
Tumblr media
In the end, we rummage through our wallets for some small change and manage to make our offerings.
After ringing the bell, we stand next to each other with our hands clasped and close our eyes. The grounds of the shrine are quiet and solemn.
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the Song Festival. I only have three months left with the agency.
… I want to win the Song Festival so that I'm able to debut.
I earnestly make that wish and lift my head.
Looking to my side, I see Kurosaki-senpai standing quietly with his eyes closed.
Despite saying that he doesn't make wishes to gods….
Watching him stand there proudly with his head bowed is a beautiful sight.
As I'm staring, he lifts his head and our eyes meet.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … What're you grinning at?
He knocks me on the head and lightly pokes me.
Haruka Nanami: Aah… I-I'm sorry.
Um… What did you wish for?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I told you I don't believe in that stuff, didn't I?
I didn't make any.
If I have to say something, then I expressed my determination.
Haruka Nanami: Determination?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, all the things I hope to accomplish this year… stuff like that.
Now's a good chance to do it.
Anyway, how 'bout you?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, well… I want to win the Song Festival and make my debut, so I wished for that.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … Y'see here.
For major things like that, say them directly.
Haruka Nanami: Directly?
He quietly tells me it's nothing to worry about and averts his eyes.
Tumblr media
Ren Jinguji: Well, we've finished with our prayers.
How about drawing fortunes before we leave?
Jinguji-san stretches widely before moving towards the place where fortunes are being sold.
Haruka Nanami: Ahh, a test of luck!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Just when I thought we were done….
Ren Jinguji: Now, now. Ran-chan, let’s go.
Once again, Kurosaki-senpai is dragged away towards the fortunes.
Tumblr media
Ren Jinguji: Oh, medium fortune.
"Someone who has been waiting for you will appear"….
Finally, it's time for my femme fatale to make an entrance.
Masato Hijirikawa: Small fortune. "Your studies will pay off if you work hard"… huh.
Yes, I must be even more diligent.
How about yours?
Haruka Nanami: Um… let's see.
Ah! It's great fortune! I'm going to have great fortune!
I show everyone the fortune I pulled.
Ren Jinguji: That's wonderful, Lady!
Masato Hijirikawa: That’s amazing, I'm sure it will be a good year for you.
Haruka Nanami: Yes! Thank you so much!
Huh? Kurosaki-senpai….
Turning around, I see Kurosaki-senpai lashing out at one of the priests near the fortunes.
Haruka Nanami: S-Senpai? What are you…?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don't "what" me, take a look!
He says that while holding out his fortune, waving it around.
Masato Hijirikawa: Please don't wave it around, it makes it difficult to….
What? Catastrophic fortune?!
Haruka Nanami: D-did you say catastrophic?!
Ren Jinguji: Well then….
Good going, Ran-chan.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Quit messin' around!
"Money: You will lose a lot." What the hell's with that?!
For Senpai, he seems to be more concerned about that point rather than the catastrophic misfortune.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … It's time for payback.
Just as he turns on his heel, Hijirikawa-san and Jinguji-san grab him and hold him back.
Haruka Nanami: P-please calm down!
I… I have to do something as his partner.
Haruka Nanami: H-here, I'll give you my great fortune.
Masato Hijirikawa: Then, please take my small fortune as well.
Without a second thought, Hijirikawa-san places his fortune on top of mine.
Ren Jinguji: Huh, guess I gotta do it too.
Here, you can have my medium fortune.
Now you're all set.
All three fortunes are handed over to Kurosaki-senpai in succession.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Geez, even if you give me your fortunes….
Besides, I'm the one in charge of my own life!
I’m going to take another shot at this.
Once again, just as he turns on his heel, Hijirikawa-san and Jinguji-san hold him back.
If it's come to this….
Haruka Nanami: Kurosaki-senpai, think of this in a different way!
Determined, I stand in front of Senpai.
Haruka Nanami: T-to lose a lot of money… would mean that you're going to earn lots of money first before you lose it….
Couldn't you think of it like that?
The shrine grounds fall quiet.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What….
You… you've learned to speak for yourself, haven’t you?
Masato Hijirikawa: Whoa….
Ren Jinguji: You did it, Lady.
Haruka Nanami: What's more, the power in these three fortunes will balance it out!
You might even end up with extra good luck left over!
I'm desperate, but somehow I manage to get it all out.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, if you guys insist, then I guess I don't have a choice….
Kurosaki-senpai grumbles as he holds onto the fortunes.
After that, we sip some amazake and tie our fortunes to the branches of a plum blossom tree growing in the shrine's courtyard.
Lastly, I put my hands together, praying deep in my heart for everyone’s happiness and success before leaving the shrine.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, we head towards the office.
Maybe it was because of the ruckus at the shrine, but everyone looks exhausted.
Haruka Nanami: Are you going to have a meeting to discuss hidden talents now?
Kurosaki-senpai nods in confirmation.
Each year, the president hosts a New Year's party for Shining Agency.
Last year, I wasn't able to attend, but it seems the hidden talents contest is the highlight of the party, and all of the agency's stars take part in it.
This year, it’s been decided that the Master Course teams will each participate as a unit. It looks like Kurosaki-senpai, Hijirikawa-san and Jinguji-san are going to start planning for it now.
Masato Hijirikawa: Yes, we are. However, Kurosaki-san, you were quick to agree to participate.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It's a real pain. But if it's for a prize, of course I gotta do it.
Haruka Nanami: Is the grand prize really that extravagant?
Ren Jinguji: Last year's prize was a gold statue of the boss.
Putting aside the question of whether one would display it or not, it does boast some extravagance.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Every year, Hyuga-san and Tsukimiya-san engage in a fierce battle.
We can't lose against them….
Masato Hijirikawa: In addition, there's a penalty for the team in last place.
At the very least, I would like to avoid that.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Tch, what're you saying?
If we're doing this, of course we're aimin' to win.
Listen up! Things are gonna get busy from now on!
Ren Jinguji: Okay, Ran-chan!
Masato Hijirikawa: I have a bad feeling about this, but it looks like I don't have a choice.
I understand.
I wonder what kind of hidden talents they'll show off?
I'm looking forward to it.
Tumblr media
A few days later, I arrive at the New Year's party.
Haruka Nanami: Wow, amazing….
The venue is decorated lavishly, with many well-dressed stars coming in and out of it.
Even though it's just for the agency, the president remains a fan of brilliance and glamour.
A gigantic banquet hall has been booked for the occasion.
Haruka Nanami: It's dazzling.
I thought I had dressed somewhat presentable myself, but compared to the aura of the people coming and going around me….
I feel like I shouldn’t stay here.
Reiji Kotobuki: Kouhai-chan! A Happy New Year to you!!
Haruka Nanami: Ehh!
Suddenly, something covers my head from behind and my vision is plunged into darkness.
Camus: The lion dance….
I see, it's a traditional Japanese event.
How interesting.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hweihi! Hugt noft haeut!
Heh iho fueh, iho!
Ai Mikaze: Camus, the lion dance originated from China.
Ranmaru, don't talk with your mouth full.
And Reiji, you don't cover the whole head in lion dancing. You only need to bite it.
Reiji Kotobuki: Oh, is that right?
Ai-Ai is as knowledgeable as ever. Well then!
The object on top of my head sways unsteadily.
Haruka Nanami: Ahhhh!
Camus: Enough, Kotobuki.
Gradually, my vision becomes bright again.
When I turn around, everyone is standing there.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Ah, you're all here! Happy New Year!
Wow, all of you came dressed in kimonos today.
I fix my eyes on the sight of the four of them in their kimonos.
Reiji Kotobuki: Well, well? How do we look, Kouhai-chan?
Kotobuki-senpai asks as he opens and closes the lion's mouth.
Haruka Nanami: Yes! You all look wonderful!
But why did you come in kimonos?
Camus: We didn’t have a choice. Saotome gave us orders to come in kimonos today.
It seems that many stars were encouraged to wear kimonos to this event.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It's not a big deal. I've worn one a couple times before, in the past.
Ai Mikaze: Oh? I didn't know that.
Now that you mention it, you helped Camus fix his collar earlier.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I don't like seeing it all crooked. If I do see somethin' like that, it makes me irritated.
Reiji Kotobuki: Yoo-hoo~! Are there any naughty kids around~?
Kotobuki-senpai holds up the lion and passes in front of Kurosaki-senpai.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey Reiji, cool it! Your obi's gonna come loose!
Camus: Stop it, Kotobuki! Don't bite my head with that lion from some foreign country!
I've sworn allegiance to my country, and….
Ai Mikaze: "Are there any naughty kids"... isn't that from a Namahage ritual?
Soon, Kotobuki-senpai, Mikaze-senpai, and Camus-senpai wander off, leaving me alone with Kurosaki-senpai.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Aren't you eating anything?
Senpai asks me with a box of New Year's food in his hand.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, yes. It's just that it all looked so extravagant, I got overwhelmed….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: There's no need to hold back. It's all free, so don't go home 'til you've gotten your money's worth.
C'mon, follow me.
Haruka Nanami: Eh? Um….
Kurosaki-senpai leaves the room briskly, and I scamper after him.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey, over here. Now then—looks like they got sushi, soba, crab….
I haven't had any tempura yet either. You want some?
Kurosaki-senpai puts a plate in each of my hands and casually starts to heap food onto them.
In my right hand is Japanese food, and in my left hand is Western food.
Everything looks delicious, and yet….
Haruka Nanami: Um, Senpai. It seems like you're getting a lot of attention….
Even among the idols, Kurosaki-senpai stands out in particular with his makeup and kimono.
Everyone stares in amazement, but he continues to heap food onto the plates anyway.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don't worry 'bout them. Anyway, have you been eating properly?
Here, have some prawn.
As if to give it a finishing touch, he puts some prawn tempura on top of the pile of food.
The final mound is an unnatural amount of food in a wide variety of colors.
Ai Mikaze: What are the two of you doing? Is that your hidden talent?
Before I realize, everyone else has returned.
Haruka Nanami: N-no, it's not!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Now you've got a bit of everything. Alright!!
Despite my bewilderment, he looks over at me with a satisfied expression on his face.
Haruka Nanami: Um, well you see. Both of my hands are full….
It's a standing buffet, so even if I want to put the dishes down, there's no place to put them.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Ah, now that you mention it. Yeah.
I might've gotten a bit carried away.
Ai Mikaze: Geez, he really didn't think ahead….
Reiji Kotobuki: This is the part where he does that thing, isn't it? The scenario where Ranran will go "say 'aaahh'" right?
Come on, you gotta do it to Kouhai-chan!
For some reason Kotobuki-senpai looks happy, opening the lion's mouth wide as if waiting to receive something.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Wha?! What're you sayin'….
As if I'd be able to do something like that in front of you guys!
Camus: However, making a lady hold the plates while you stuff yourself full….
That's not a good look.
Reiji Kotobuki: Then, I guess I'd better feed her for you~
Here you go, say 'aaahh'~
Kotobuki-senpai grabs a pair of chopsticks using his free hand.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You idiot, knock it off!! Argh, fine….
Hey, pick which one you wanna eat.
Kurosaki-senpai asks me with his chopsticks in hand.
Haruka Nanami: Eh? Um….
Select the phrase!
Omurice (+30 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Then, I'll have the omurice please.
Seeing Kurosaki-senpai reminds me of how you look when you make it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You like it that much, huh?
Haven't you had enough of it from having staff meals?
He looks just a little embarrassed.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I'd understand if it's your favorite food, but….
Man, of all the things you could have picked, it's the one hardest to grab with chopsticks!
Haruka Nanami: Ah, I'm sorry!
Even as he says that, he skillfully portions out the omurice with his chopsticks.
Tumblr media
Hamburg steak (+10 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Then… I'll have the hamburg steak….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hamburg steak? Oh, this?
The portion looks like it’s for a child….
But, well, meat’s a good choice.
Kurosaki-senpai grips the small piece of hamburg steak with his chopsticks.
Tumblr media
Sushi (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: T-then, I think I'll have the sushi. I reply in resignation.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Heh, didn't think you'd go for the expensive choice.
Well, I guess it's okay….
As he says that, Kurosaki-senpai picks up a piece of tuna sushi with his chopsticks.
Tumblr media
I face Kurosaki-senpai, who is poised with his chopsticks, ready to feed me.
Haruka Nanami: Um….
Incidentally, the way he holds his chopsticks is very lovely.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, come on. Hurry up and open your mouth.
It's hard to keep this up.
His chopsticks waver unsteadily.
Haruka Nanami: Y-yes!!
Pressured by the turn of events, I open my mouth without thinking.
Reiji Kotobuki: Alright! Go for it, Ranran!!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Geez, you're such a pain! Just shut up!
C'mon, here!
Even as he raises his voice, Kurosaki-senpai pops the food into my mouth.
Reiji Kotobuki: Whoa~, I didn't think he would actually….
Ai Mikaze: I see, so this is how one tames a wild animal using food.
Camus: How should I put this….
It's more embarrassing for those watching.
I realize that rather than just Camus-senpai and the others, the entire hall is now staring at me.
And in front of me is Kurosaki-senpai, holding onto his chopsticks while he waits to see how I will react.
Haruka Nanami: I-it's really delicious. And yet, I can't help but notice that we seem to be drawing a lot of attention….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: So what? Don't worry 'bout what others think. I forge my own path.
What should we have next…. Maybe the tempura. Here, eat up.
He carefully dips it in sauce and holds out a piece of prawn tempura towards me.
All eyes turn towards us as we prepare for a second round.
Haruka Nanami: U-um…. No thank you, I think I'll pass.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What? You won't eat my tempura?
Don't be a picky eater.
Haruka Nanami: No, it's not that I don't like it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: When you can eat, then eat. That should be an ironclad rule.
Otherwise, when push comes to shove, you won't be able to act.
Particularly on a day like today, just before an all-important match.
Haruka Nanami: B-but I'm not participating in the hidden talents contest…!
He glares at me sharply.
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes sir….
I give in and open my mouth.
After that, he continues to pop food into my mouth, one bite after another.
All of it is delicious and I'm really happy, but it's also very embarrassing….
Kurosaki-senpai and I end up standing out more than anyone else in the hall.
Tumblr media
In the end, Kurosaki-senpai helps me to finish everything, and my plate is finally cleared. That's when….
Shining Saotome: Now then!! The entertainment corner that everyone has been waiting for!
Get ready all of YOU, the hidden talents contest is about to start, YO!
Finally, today's main event, the hidden talents contest, begins.
Up on stage, everyone unleashes their all to showcase their hidden talents.
This year's hidden talent display from Hyuga-sensei is a one-man theatrical production.
The theme is a contemporary arrangement of Hamlet.
Ryuya Hyuga: To be or not to be, that is the question….
As expected of Hyuga-sensei, his acting skills are top-notch.
He seems to be accustomed to the stage, his suffering and anguish on display for all to see.
And then….
Ryuya Hyuga: Get thee to a nunnery! And if you wish, then I'll be your opponent!
Stripping off his costume, he reveals his costume from "Prince of Fighting" underneath.
Everyone is in an uproar over the transition from one prince to another.
The audience gives a generous round of applause to Hyuga-sensei for performing the collaboration between the two series all by himself.
It's just as expected from the fan favorite.
An amazing show of hidden talent.
Tumblr media
The other acts finish, and finally it's time for Kurosaki-senpai's group to go on stage.
He was very eager about it. I wonder what they're going to do.
I'm excited to see.
Above the stage, a large mirror is set up and a gentle melody begins to flow.
The three of them scurry out onto the stage.
Masato Hijirikawa: All right everybody, gather around~!
A fun play is about to begin!
Ren Jinguji: What kind of story will we see today~?
Well then, let's go. It's time for World Masterpiece Theater!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Peachtaro!
The three of them strike a clean pose.
Haruka Nanami: Taro?
The room is abuzz with commotion.
Ryuya Hyuga: Tch, so they're doing a play as well….
Hyuga-sensei mutters to himself at my side.
The three of them exit briefly, and then Hijirikawa-san reappears onstage by himself.
For some reason, Hijirikawa-san is dressed as a woman and begins to address the mirror.
Masato Hijirikawa: Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all?
Ringo Tsukimiya: Me?
Ryuya Hyuga: Er, I don't think so.
As if it’s a conditioned reflex, Hyuga-sensei pushes Tsukimiya-sensei, who had begun to stand up from the audience, back down into his seat.
Masato Hijirikawa: Ask, and I shall answer. There is no one fairer but you!
Ahh, Hijirikawa-san is putting in his best effort to play a double role.
Masato Hijirikawa: Oh, how wonderful. Then, oh mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who is the strongest of them all?
The room is filled with silence….
Masato Hijirikawa: Ask, and I shall answer. There is no one stronger than… Peachtaro!
Masato Hijirikawa: Oh myyyyy, how terrible!!
Then I have no choice but to have Taro die by eating these "poisoned dango"!
Hijirikawa-san takes the dango in his hand and injects poison into them.
… The scene changes to an unfamiliar road.
Kurosaki-senpai appears, riding on a horse.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Yo! I'm Peachtaro, the boy born of a peach!
I'm gonna be the strongest man in the world!
I'm unstoppable, so you better watch out~!
Camus: Pfft!!
Next to me, Camus-senpai spits out the oolong tea he had been drinking.
Camus: Excuse me….
Haruka Nanami: Ah, it's okay….
Camus: … By the way, I'm the one who supplied that horse.
Haruka Nanami: Ehh?!
He seems to have brought it all the way from his home in Silk Palace.
During our conversation, the play continues.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey, you guys over there!
Wanna come with me and beat up some evil demons?
Kurosaki-senpai… or rather, Peachtaro asks with a flash of white teeth.
Masato Hijirikawa: Woof, woof! If I can get my paws on some of those delicious looking dango, I'll go with you, woof!
Ren Jinguji: A pheasant like me can't pass up a good dango either, coo!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Haha, 'course you can have some.
My sis makes the best and coolest dango around!
Whenever Kurosaki-san says something, the audience tries excruciatingly hard to resist the urge to laugh.
Everyone… please hang in there.
Hijirikawa-san as the dog and Jinguji-san as the pheasant take the dango from Peachtaro.
Ren Jinguji: Thank you, Taro-kun!
Masato Hijirikawa: Wow, it's huge! It looks like a solid portion.
But I think you should have it, Taro-san. This smaller piece is enough for me.
The dog gives his dango to Peachtaro and takes a smaller portion for himself.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Ah, sorry 'bout that.
… Since we all have some now, let's eat it together!
Seeing Peachtaro with a wide smile on his face, the dog and the pheasant both smile and nod.
All three of them bite into their dango at the same time.
Masato Hijirikawa: Ugh…! Arghhhhh…!
Ren Jinguji: Urk…! This….
Don't tell me it was poisoned…?
Oh my goodness! Everyone just collapsed all at once.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Ur, hgh….
Guhhh! Hah…….
Peachtaro writhes about on the floor in pain.
Haruka Nanami: Amazing, Kurosaki-senpai. Such realistic acting!!
Reiji Kotobuki: Hey, Ranran's face is all red….
Whoa, now he's starting to turn blue.
Haruka Nanami: Eh? Ah, you're right.
Then, the dog next to Peachtaro slowly begins to get up.
Masato Hijirikawa: Hahaha. Finally, my days of being pushed around by you are over, Kurosaki-san!
… I-I mean, Peachtaro!
Without a moment's delay, Hijirikawa-san quickly changes costumes.
In his place stands the woman who appeared at the beginning of the play.
Ren Jinguji: Y-you…. You were just pretending…!
You tricked us!!
Masato Hijirikawa: Ohohoho!! You simpletons!
Hijirikawa-san cackles with glee.
Ren Jinguji: Hm? Hey, Ran-chan. Ran-chan.
Masato Hijirikawa: What's the matter, Jinguji?
Ren Jinguji: Well, it's just that Ran-chan….
He's not breathing.
Masato Hijirikawa: He's what?!
What's going on…?
Gradually, the audience begins to murmur in confusion.
Masato Hijirikawa: Please hang in there, Kurosaki-san!!
Hijirikawa-san slaps Kurosaki-san firmly on the cheeks.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hrk, ugh… guh….
Kurosaki-senpai begins to stir.
Ren Jinguji: Ah, thank goodness. Are you okay, Taro?
… Sorry, I mean, Ran-chan.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Guh….
Dango… in… my… throat….
That's all he says before collapsing again.
Masato Hijirikawa: Wha?!
That's why I asked you to be careful during rehearsal…!!
At that moment, the horse neighs, startled by Hijirikawa-san's loud voice….
It suddenly runs out of the hall.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Urk… guh….
Hrk… hrk….
Ah… that's better….
Kurosaki-senpai is able to breathe again!
Relieved, the two of them stroke his shoulders.
Ringo Tsukimiya: Waaahhhhh, don't come any closer!!
Ryuya Hyuga: Everyone, get outta here!
However the horse, in its confusion, runs towards the audience.
Camus: Calm down, Stallion! Hyaa!!
Camus-senpai swiftly jumps onto the horse and takes the reins.
Camus: Whoa there, easy. You were scared, weren't you Stallion?
But it's okay now.
He smoothly pets the horse's muzzle.
The horse has calmed down, but….
Haruka Nanami: Aah… the hall is a mess.
Shining Saotome: Hrmmmmmmmmmmm.
What happened to my exciting New Year's party?!
YOU three, prepare for punishmeeent!!
The president raises his voice.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Seriously…?
Their shoulders slump in disappointment.
Shining Saotome: Oh, and I declare Ryuya-san as the victorrr.
For first place, the prize is this ice sculpture of ME!!
The president points sharply to the icy figure towering over the center of the hall.
Ryuya Hyuga: I don't want it!!
Hyuga-sensei's exclamation echoes throughout the hall, and the New Year's party ends in the midst of the uproar.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What a way to start the new year….
Guess this is what it meant by “catastrophic fortune”.
Haruka Nanami: Hmm, maybe we couldn't cover all of it and some was still left over.
On my way home, I ran into Kurosaki-senpai.
He said that the president's penalty would take place over three days starting from tonight.
The details were unknown, but it involved staying overnight.
Plus, Jinguji-san and Hijirikawa-san were already dragged there, undergoing their penalty.
Kurosaki-senpai must have told them he was going to his place to pick up his bags before heading off.
It was probably a physical kind of punishment, but he brushed it off saying that this sort of thing was common for Shining Agency idols to endure.
I often hear from one of the TV staff whom I work with that the idols at Shining Agency are very good at adapting to the unexpected….
So it's through this kind of activity that their skills are developed?
… Amazing.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: To tell you the truth, I wanted to have a meeting about the Song Festival tomorrow, but….
Just when I thought New Year's was over, this happened.
Kurosaki-senpai is a popular idol.
Naturally, he was very busy through to the end of the year and New Year holidays.
Just when he finally had a day off, the president had the final say and called off those plans.
Haruka Nanami: Senpai, you were this busy with your work over New Year's and the hidden talents contest, huh….
The big event at the agency is over, and I thought we would get to talk about the song. I'm a little disappointed we couldn't do that.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey, no need to look so dejected.
I'll find time in between work and look at the song then.
By the way, are you getting a break?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, I can afford to relax a bit at the start of the year.
So I thought of composing a few extra songs.
It's better to keep a stockpile of them.
Oh, can I try to compose one song for the Song Festival as a suggestion first?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Huh? Sure, I guess.
Let's see what you come up with.
It better not be something weird though, 'cause I'm not afraid of rejecting it.
Haruka Nanami: Hehe, there's something I've been wanting to compose….
I want to take the melody I felt on Christmas night and give it proper shape as a song.
We are just about to reach the corner of the road. From here, we will go our separate ways.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I got it. Work on the song well while I'm gone.
I'll give it a listen when I get back from the penalty.
Select the phrase!
I won't let you down! (+20 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Okay! I won't let you down!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Heh, someone's fired up.
Well, I'm lookin' forward to it.
You'll do fine.
He smiles and turns towards the road.
Tumblr media
Please do your best. (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: I'll be waiting.
Please do your best.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Yeah, same goes for you.
I don't know what kinda mess I'll find myself in for the punishment, but I'll get it over and done with.
Haruka Nanami: See you later!
Tumblr media
You'll listen to it? (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Wow, you'll really listen to it?!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Why're you so surprised?
Didn't I tell you last month I would join you for the Song Festival?
So of course I will.
Glancing at me, Senpai turns towards the road.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I'll send you a message later.
Well then, I'm off. See ya.
Kurosaki-senpai waves lightly, returning home to get ready.
After Christmas night, I feel like I've gotten a little bit closer to him.
Haruka Nanami: Alright, I'd better give it my all too.
I have to start thinking about the song right away.
With that, I head back to the agency dorms.
Tumblr media
I focus on composing the song for the Song Festival while waiting for Kurosaki-senpai to return.
The fact that other work has stopped gives me plenty of time to concentrate solely on the Song Festival. It feels almost luxurious.
I think a lot about Senpai as I write the song.
I think about his sparkling, shining figure atop the Christmas Live stage.
I think about the kindness that he sometimes shows behind his blunt words, his honesty when it comes to music, and his strength….
I have the bass pick that I received from him on display on my desk. Sometimes, I touch it while writing the song.
The pick is a deep red color. It's light with a roundish sort of shape, almost like a rose petal.
My phone chimes.
Haruka Nanami: Huh? It's a message from Senpai.
Even though he's in the middle of the penalty.
Sender: Ranmaru Kurosaki
Title: No Title
Keep this Thursday afternoon free. I'll check out the song then.
By the way, if you were to name a white tiger, would 'Tiger' be okay?
Haruka Nanami: T-Tiger…?
What a mysterious question.
Why is he asking something like that?
Is Senpai safe as he’s undergoing his punishment?
For the time being, I reply with "'Snowy' is nice too" and resume working on the song.
When he comes back, I'll ask him about it.
Tumblr media
Five days after the New Year's party, I visit the agency.
I exchange glances with Hijirikawa-san who happens to be there as well.
He raises his hand and greets me.
Haruka Nanami: Hijirikawa-san!
You must have had a hard time with the hidden talents contest and the penalty….
Masato Hijirikawa: No, I'm just glad you didn't get trampled on by a horse.
But yes, it was a lot to deal with….
I can see the hardships he went through from the expression on his face.
Jinguji-san, who had been collecting some documents in the back, also came over to us.
Ren Jinguji: Yo, Lady.
Man, we suffered a lot.
There's the same tiredness in Jinguji-san's expression.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, speaking of which. I received a message from Kurosaki-senpai asking about 'Tiger' as a name….
Masato Hijirikawa: Ahh…. Actually, as part of the penalty, we were taken to Saotome-san's house to take care of his pets….
Haruka Nanami: Pets?
Ren Jinguji: Yeah. For three days, we had to take care of the boss' pets….
Jinguji-san's expression becomes downcast.
Masato Hijirikawa: It's hard to believe it's a private collection….
Ren Jinguji: On top of having fierce animals from all around the world, he even has a giant insectarium.
Masato Hijirikawa: No more, Jinguji!! Don't remind me!!
Hijirikawa-san's face is ghastly pale as he clamps a hand over his mouth.
Come to think of it, I remember Hijirikawa-san being terrified of insects.
Haruka Nanami: Fierce animals too? That… must have been hard.
Ren Jinguji: Yeah. Even now, I still can't shake some of the exhaustion….
Jinguji-san lightly puts a hand to his forehead.
Ren Jinguji: To add to that, there was some trouble at home and my brother called me, which was unusual.
Haruka Nanami: Trouble, you say?
I hear that as of late, someone has been hanging around Jinguji-san's and Hijirikawa-san's family's homes and messing with them.
Haruka Nanami: If it involves both your families… I'm guessing it's trouble relating to the conglomerates?
Masato Hijirikawa: Yes, that's right.
I heard that an emerging holding company is doing some considerably shady business.
I've also been urgently summoned to a family meeting.
I haven't had a good night's sleep since I got back from the president's house.
Haruka Nanami: Oh my….
You've all been hard at work.
Masato Hijirikawa: Oh no, Kurosaki-san is the one who has been working consistently since he got back from the president's house.
Hijirikawa-san nods, saying that he would have to learn from him, but his face lacks vigor.
Haruka Nanami: Please don't push yourselves too much.
Shouldn't you both finish early today and rest?
Ren Jinguji: I suppose you're right.
I just came to collect some documents, but I'll do as you say. Thanks.
The two of them leave the office looking exhausted.
Trouble with the conglomerates. That sounds tough.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, as I sit in the room waiting for our meeting, Kurosaki-senpai arrives right on time.
Haruka Nanami: Kurosaki-senpai! Are you okay?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Huh? What, did something happen?
Placing his things on the table, he takes a seat and eyes me with a curious look.
Haruka Nanami: Ah no, I heard from Hijirikawa-san and Jinguji-san about how you had to take care of the president's pets….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oh, you mean like the tiger and the lion?
It was no big deal. Piece o' cake.
Haruka Nanami: A-amazing….
Is that so? The other two seemed exhausted….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That's 'cause they're sloppy.
Especially Masato. He saw one bug and started kickin' up a huge fuss like an idiot.
Ren being Ren got attached to the females, but the males saw him as their enemy and a threat.
In the end, I got stuck with having to take care of everything.
Haruka Nanami: Wow, that's quite the feat.
All of the wild animals acted like that?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: They all behaved themselves for me. After all, they're just like big cats.
Haruka Nanami: Cats….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: The only annoying thing was they kept comin' at me day and night, wanting me to play with them and feed them. Sometimes it's no joke when they get playful.
Now that I think about it, when I visited his home, the cats seemed quite fond of him.
I wonder if it's Kurosaki-senpai's nature that makes animals drawn to him?
Haruka Nanami: By the way, do you like animals, Senpai?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It's not that I like them in particular.
They come and hang around me all on their own.
Haruka Nanami: I see….
Hmm, surely they do that because….
Select the phrase!
They know you're gentle. (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: It's because they realize that you're a gentle person.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hah, what're you saying?
I'm not gentle at all.
Senpai rests his chin in his hands, letting out a small breath.
Haruka Nanami: Animals are honest creatures. Surely, they can tell.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Geez. They've always been attached to me.
Even though I don't remember feeding them, they still cling to me anyway.
When I say I won't take care of them, they don't listen.
I ended up feeding them because they were making so much noise, and then they decided to stick around.
Weren't you the same?
Haruka Nanami: N-no way! I'm not a cat or anything….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Heh, we'll see about that.
Kurosaki-senpai smiles upon saying those words.
Tumblr media
They think you look tasty. (+10 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Perhaps, they look at you and see a tasty treat?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oh, hey. Now that you mention it, they did like to lick me a lot….
Yeah no, that's just dumb!
Haruka Nanami: But your hair is so fluffy, maybe they thought it looked like cotton candy….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: More like your brain is filled with cotton candy.
What's so tasty about me? My muscles are all brawny and tough. Even a lion would leave those parts behind.
You on the other hand, you'd probably be eaten up in an instant. You're much softer and tastier looking than me. Better be careful.
Haruka Nanami: No! We can't have that!
I frantically wave my hands.
Tumblr media
They find you alike. (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Maybe they find that you're similar to them?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Similar? Me, similar to tigers and lions?
Kurosaki-senpai glares at me sharply.
Haruka Nanami: Um… I mean it in the wild sense.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Wild, huh… guess that ain't bad.
Maybe I'll incorporate a leopard print into my next costume….
After saying that, he begins to think about it intently.
I'm sure Kurosaki-senpai can pull off the look well.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Now then, there's no time to waste. Let's get right into it.
Can't buy time, after all.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, yes. Once again, I look forward to working with you for the Song Festival!
I bow my head and Kurosaki-senpai nods lightly in return.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Y-yeah, same here.
Let's get down to business. You’ve finished the song, right? Lemme hear it.
Haruka Nanami: Okay! I made it with my own impression of you in mind.
Taking out the song, Senpai nods in satisfaction, folds his arms, and closes his eyes.
He's positioned himself to listen carefully.
Haruka Nanami: Well then, I hope you like it!
I press the play button on the music player.
SONG: "BRIGHT ROAD" (S RANK)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Not bad at all….
It's a good start.
Haruka Nanami: Y-you really mean that?!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Idiot, don't get carried away.
The question is how high can we go from here?
After all, our goal is to win.
Haruka Nanami: Yes!!
At least it's a passing grade for now!
SONG: "BRIGHT ROAD" (A-B RANK)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It's okay.
Not bad, but it looks like we still have a long way to go.
Well, you just gotta keep at it.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, I'll give it my all!
I nod deeply in response.
SONG: "BRIGHT ROAD" (C-D RANK)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Why you! Eyes on me and listen up!
You can't expect to win if you start out like this!
At this rate, we won't even get a participation award!
Haruka Nanami: I'm sorryyyyy!!
Flustered, I straighten my back.
I become subject to waves of scolding before having to start over.
He's so strict…!
______________________________
After listening to the song, Kurosaki-senpai keeps his arms crossed, as if he’s still pondering over something.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: So that's your impression of me….
Is this how you see me?
Kurosaki-senpai eventually asks me.
Haruka Nanami: That's right!
Of course, when I think of Kurosaki-senpai, I think of rock. But I thought that I could show even more to everyone—a new side of you that the world hasn't seen yet.
That's why I kept elements of rock, which make up your soul. But I also filled it with things that I've felt from you, like your honesty and your kindness that sometimes shines through.
I want you to sing a song that only you can express, a song that only you can sing, without being limited to rock or idol songs.
I boldly share all of my thoughts with him.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I see. If you focus on that, there's a chance it'll come out half-assed.
Not only the song, but I’ll also start to question my ability to express myself.
… 'Kay. Seeing as you've put this much thought into the song, I'll follow ya.
It's caught my interest, so we'll go with it.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, thank you so much!
I'm glad that he's accepted it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oh, that's right. I've got a job I wanna ask you to do.
After we finish talking about the song festival, Kurosaki-senpai speaks up.
Haruka Nanami: A job for me? What is it?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I've been asked to create the new opening theme for my upcoming program, but I wanted to see if you'd do it instead.
You wanna give it a shot?
Haruka Nanami: Huh, me? I would be honored but….
Is it really okay for someone like me to do it?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don't gimme that.
Have more confidence in yourself, y'hear me?!
When I ask him about it timidly, he looks at me sharply.
Haruka Nanami: Y-yes…!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: The director of the program was having a hard time choosing someone.
So I recommended you, since you seemed free at the start of the year.
Haruka Nanami: You recommended me?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, when they asked me if I knew any composers, you came to mind.
And I happened to be carrying your music at the time….
Haruka Nanami: You had it at the time?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I-I just forgot to delete the Christmas Live track, okay?!
He abruptly averts his gaze, but….
He thought he could trust me with composing the opening theme for his program, so that must be why he offered the job to me.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Anyway! You wanna do it or not? Answer me.
He glances at me as I’m still bewildered and asks again.
Select the phrase!
I'll do my best! (+20 Love)
Haruka Nanami: I got it. I'll do my best!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Of course you will!
Prove your worth with results, and don't you dare make me look bad.
Haruka Nanami: Yes!
I nod with a smile.
Tumblr media
I would be happy to. (+15 Love)
I'm a little nervous about some things, but of course….
Haruka Nanami: I would be happy to. Thank you so much.
I bow deeply because his feelings make me happy.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, so long as you're the composer, I'm pretty certain it'll all go smoothly.
Kurosaki-senpai murmurs in a small voice.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure…. (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Um, I'm not sure if I can, but….
I want to meet Senpai's expectations. With that feeling in mind, I muster up my courage.
Haruka Nanami: I'm willing to try my best. Thank you.
When I say that with my head bowed, Senpai looks at me as if relieved.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Here's all the info.
Also, there's a script to read for reference.
Kurosaki-senpai slides an A4 envelope across the table to me.
Haruka Nanami: "Ranmaru Kurosaki's Rock 'n' Roller"… i-isn't this a really popular program?!
"Ranmaru Kurosaki's Rock 'n' Roller" is a talk show that focuses on the latest music.
Inside the envelope is an outline of the program and the script for the next recording.
If I recall, Hijirikawa-san and Jinguji-san also appear on the program.
I wonder if they were here earlier for a copy of the script.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: The next recording will be at the start of next month. Come and see for yourself.
Then right after, we'll have a meeting. How 'bout it?
Haruka Nanami: Yes! That's fine with me.
I check my schedule and confirm that I can make it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Kay, thanks.
Make sure you think of some ideas for the opening by then.
And it goes without sayin', but don't lose focus on the Song Festival either. Got it?
Haruka Nanami: Of course!
It'll be tough, but the thought of a new challenge excites me.
I'll do the best that I can!
Tumblr media
Following that, Kurosaki-senpai gave me his critique on the solo song and a brief explanation of the program before hurrying off to his next job.
He looks as busy as ever.
I stayed behind in the conference room for a bit longer to check the documents. By the time I left the office, the sun had already set.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Ah, it's snowing….
Did I bring my umbrella?
It had just started to snow by the time I was ready to leave.
Shivering, I step out onto the street in front of the office when I notice a large black car parked off to the side.
Haruka Nanami: A guest…? But why did they go to the trouble of parking on the street?
About four or five men dressed in suits are surrounding the car, talking amongst themselves in front of the office.
They don't seem to be from the media.
Haruka Nanami: What are they here for…?
There's something strange about them, I think to myself as I cross the road and put some distance between us.
It appears there is still someone else inside the car. One of the suited men runs over and opens the door.
He unfolds an umbrella and, underneath it, a man in his forties gets out of the car.
For a moment, our eyes meet. His eyes are narrow and almost like slits.
I immediately clutch my umbrella closer to myself.
A light layer of snow piles up on the black car.
However, the men standing around show no sign of getting out their umbrellas.
They observe the office for a while, exchanging a word or two before getting back into the car.
What was that…?
I have an uneasy feeling about this.
I keep my umbrella low over my face as I walk.
The black car passes by me, going straight through the green light at the intersection.
I stare blankly at the tail lights of the car as it drives away in the falling snow.

Maybe Sara with a different hair style or copying someone else’s hair
Tumblr media
DAY 37: HAIR SAGA!!
[ID: Three colored drawings featuring Sara Chidouin from Your Turn To Die and one of her friends.
The first one is Joe and Sara standing in front of a mirror. Sara's hair is styled to look like his. They both have freckles, and Sara has violet and orange eyes. Joe is wearing a yellow t-shirt, and Sara is wearing a pink one. Joe asks: "so!! what do ya think of it?". Sara replies: "...i look stupid." The background is a light brown.
The second drawing is of Sara and Anzu, with Anzu styling and dyeing Sara's hair to look like hers. Sara is wearing a purple short-sleeved turtleneck with designs of clouds and stars scattered all over. Over it, she wears light pink overalls. Anzu has her hair tied up, and wears a yellow sweater with her hood, and pink pants. The background is a light pink.
The third drawing is of Sara and Ranmaru. Sara has her hair down and is wearing a white colored shirt with a brown dress skirt, with straps wrapping over her shoulders. She also wears a black and red bowtie. Ranmaru is wearing a blue, short-sleeved sweater over a light purple shirt, which also covers white bandages underneath his clothes. He fluffs up his hair a little, explaining; "okay so like. you have to just. puff it out". Sara looks visibly confused. The background is a light blue.
In the right corner, in all caps, it reads; "Sara's Hair Saga!". The background is yellow. All the drawings have the artist's signature, "Tachi!", written somewhere near it. End ID.]

Anon said: Ranmaru, how do you feel about ghosts?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Uhh, I'd rather not encounter them?" He isn't sure how else to respond to something that out of the blue but what an ominous feeling it leaves him with. "Should I be expecting a ghost to appear?"

Breakdown of the newest G-Fantasy cover
RARRRRRR IM SO INSANE ABT THIS I NEED TO SEAR THIS ART INTO MY EYEBALLS THERE SSO MUCH TO IT!!!! AUGHGHGHH ITS SO PRETTY!!! THE ASTRONOMY OF IT ALL!!!! ok had to get that out of my system im normal now lets get on with it
Starting with the most immediately obvious parts....
Bellflowers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GRARRR ITS BELLFLOWERS!!!! ITS BELLFLOWERS!!!!
Chinese Bellflowers, called "kikyou" in Japanese, are associated with and somewhat symbols of Abe no Seimei because of the pentagram shape, and Seimei's pentagram is also sometimes called "Seimei kikyou"
In other words, AAAAA BELLFLOWERS!!!!!!
Libra
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is Libra!! Not a whole lot to say about it, but there's a neat detail that the tippy point of the triangle (Beta Librae) is the brightest star in the constellation, and it's also represented by a more defined 4-pointed star here!
Cancer and Crux
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not much to say about Cancer, so lumping it in with Crux.
Crux, also known as the southern cross, is an asterism of four of the brightest stars in the southern hemisphere, and used for navigation similar to the north star.
There is also a northern cross (that's the "body" of Cygnus), but you can tell this is specifically the southern cross because the northern one has a star in the middle
Ursa Major
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can tell this is Ursa Major by the paw stars and the back leg! This is also the constellation that the big dipper is part of, which you may know from a previous rambles to be a big thing in Taoism and also associated with Abe no Seimei.
While we're on the topic of dippers...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's this constellation that's covered by the G-Fantasy logo (that I didn't want to draw any definitive lines for) but I'm almost certain is the little dipper
Tumblr media
What's the deal with the dippers anyway
Hey guys. remember when i lost my mind over the big/little dipper in my kyoto arc essay. still havent gotten over that.
So likeeee... the big dipper is the one classically associated with Taoism and Seimei. The little dipper doesn't really have much of an association with anything in that area, at most you could say its an extension of Polaris, the Big Boy North Star
Note the way the handles bend, the handle of the big dipper hooks down at the end. It's not as if this looks particularly different in different parts of the world, and you can see that every depiction of it irl is the way it is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But consistently. Consistently. Sensei draws it with the handle bent the other way, aka looking more like the little dipper
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now there's a cute idea here that maybe the big dipper represents Seimei and the little dipper represents Haru. That's so cute! Unfortunately also just an idea. Because as you can see the little dipper is also there in Seimei's magic circle. So.
(Side tangent I swear at one point someone pointed out a principal art where its super clear that the mark on his face is Seimei's magic circle??? But now I can't find which art it is)
The Shichiseiken
Tumblr media
Tangent-ception! I recently found out about the shichiseiken (seven star sword), named after the big dipper engraved on it. Originating in Chinese Taoism, it's said to drive away evil. There's been replicas and other versions afterwards, but the major one seems to be the one that had been reforged by Abe no Seimei after being destroyed.
(Though, none of these would be the one Ranmaru has, since his is double-edged and all these japanese swords are single-edged. And besides his just looks like a chinese sword anyway)
Couldn't identify these
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
too few identifying features on these two constellations sadly... they both Kinda look like they could be corvus.
Well. If it is corvus, and it represents Ranmaru, thats kinda cute. In that line of logic, cancer would be Sano, and libra could be either Hijita, Beniko or Renren (or all 3 lmao?)
Ok thats all i have for now i think. its 6am i gotta sleep i just had to write this right now

Entwined, Ch. 13
Tumblr media
Part 13 of a multipart series. Mai has been reborn in the modern age after a full life in the Sengoku. The warlords as spirit animals find her again after 500 years of searching for her soul. Approx. 3900 words.
Chapter List
Mai’s eyes widened as she opened her door to another unexpected delivery. More flowers, candy, and another plushie, along with a whole meal big enough to share with Ayami and Kaiya. Which was good, since the two were pretty much staying with her this week.
“Is there breakfast,” Ayami grumbled from her futon.
“Yep. Help me bring it in?”
Kaiya stumbled out of the bathroom and together, she and Ayami brought everything in. “You know at this rate, there won’t be room for anything but plushies and flowers,” Kaiya grumbled.
“Is there a card,” Ayami asked, searching through the flowers and thoroughly checking the plushie - a bear - before answering her own question. “No, nothing.”
“And nothing with the food, either.” Kaiya set it down on the small kitchen table.
Mai was pretty sure she knew who the food was from. She popped open one of the containers to find soup with vegetables cut in cute animal shapes. There was a box of flaky pastries shaped like kittens too. “I wish they’d leave a note or something.”
“Well. Whatever.” Ayami grabbed a pastry and took a bite. “At least your secret admirers are good cooks.”
Kaiya raised an eyebrow. “You know, normally I’d say you shouldn’t eat food from a mysterious source.”
“But?” Ayami grinned around a mouthful of sweet pastry.
“But this smells so good.” Kaiya laughed and grabbed a pastry for herself.
Mai was glad her friends were enjoying the gifts from her strange new friends. Despite all the smiles and laughter though, she felt a heaviness in her heart. She’d been released from the hospital days ago, and in that time not a single text or visit from Mitsuhide. No card. And none of the gifts made her think of him. He wasn’t the sort to send a box of chocolate or a random plushie.
“What’s that face for,” Kaiya asked, settling down beside her.
“Oh! Was I making a face? Sorry. I was just thinking.” Mai smiled and sat down to eat.
Ayami shook her head. “Thinking about a certain person? Let me guess. He hasn’t texted you back yet.”
Mai tried to keep her smile on but couldn’t. “I just don’t understand. I wrote him to say I came home. And then again to ask how he was. And again to say thank you.”
“Please tell me you didn’t text again after that.” Kaiya was frowning now.
“No, I didn’t. I don’t want to bother him. Maybe he’s just, you know. Busy with stuff. Police reports or - or theater things.” She shrugged.
“Or he’s being a big jerk face,” Ayami said. “Why don’t you just text one of the other guys? The restaurant one? Or the one you dumped? Or what about the pop star? Ranzan or whatever his name was?”
Mai laughed a little at that. “Ranmaru. He was really nice but honestly, I don’t know what I would write him. And besides -”
“You only want to hear from Mitsuhide,” Kaiya finished for her. “You’ve got it bad, hon.”
“I know.” Mai sighed. “I just wish he would say something. Even just . . . hi. Or an emoji. Anything to let me know he is thinking about me.”
Kaiya gave her a one-armed hug.
“Well, it’s a good thing your appointment is today. Maybe we can get some answers.” Ayami patted her shoulder.
Mai nodded. “Yeah, I hope so.I’m kind of nervous about it.”
“I don’t think it’s worth your time.” Kaiya made a face at Ayami. “Hypnosis isn’t real.”
“You don’t know that,” Ayami shot back.
“Hey, look! We’re almost done with this traditional kimono order. Isn’t it gorgeous?” Mai intervened with a very obvious subject change, but it worked. Her friends let it go, and the next while was full of good food and clothing design chatter.
Then it was time to go. Mai felt a nauseous tension as she left the flat with Ayami. Kaiya stayed behind to take calls and work on commissions, but Mai kind of wished she was along. Her skepticism made the whole thing feel less intimidating. Ayami’s excitement about all the answers she would find was more terrifying.
What memories might be suppressed? Were there a bunch of lives - and deaths - lurking just beneath her conscious thoughts? And who would she be if she remembered all of it? And what might she learn about Mitsuhide and their relationship? Mai had no answers to any of those questions and it left her feeling shaky and anxious.
Ayami gently squeezed her hand. “It’s gonna be fine. I promise!”
“Yeah . . .”
“I told you I did it, right?” Ayami smiled. “I didn’t remember anything from my past life, but I did recall some stuff from when I was little. It helped to remember and to face it. I did cry though.”
Mai gave her friend a hug. “If you can do it, I can too. I’m just overthinking.”
“Well, this is the place, so last chance to back out.” Ayami pointed at a shop across the street. It looked almost like a doctor’s office. There was a small sign beside the door: Botan Nakamura Certified Hypnotherapy.
Somehow, that made it seem less threatening. Like a trip to the dentist. Uncomfortable but not frightening. “Ok. Let’s do this.” Mai gave Ayami a smile. She took a step forward and was almost bowled over as a squealing pig shot out from a nearby alleyway, squealing past her.
It was an adorable little pot-belly pig with ginger bristles and big, amber eyes. A small, floral patterned orange bowtie hung on its neck at a jaunty angle. Mai paused, glancing around for the owner, but no one followed the dashing pig.
“Ahhh! I love piggies,” Ayami squealed and clapped her hands. “Where did you come from, handsome?”
The piggy stopped and half turned to face her, then grunted.
Ayami laughed. “It’s like he understood me! Look Mai!”
Mai grinned. “Yes, he’s a very smart pig. But where did he come from.” She looked around and still didn’t see anyone with their pet. “Where’s your person, little guy?”
The piggy grunted and huffed. Then it did a little dance in a circle.
“Hm.” No one was coming over, though a few passersby were looking over and smiling at the cute little piggy. “Should we look around for someone that lost a pig,” Mai asked.
“Then we’ll be late for your appointment.” Ayami frowned. She looked at the pig and then at the office. “How about you go in and I’ll come along in a minute, after I find Mr. Pig’s person?”
Mai considered. She didn’t want to go in alone but being late would be rude, especially for a hypnotherapist that was usually booked up. It might be months before she could get another appointment. She wanted answers now but -. “Are you sure? We could probably find them faster together.”
Ayami gave her a knowing smile. “Come on, Mai. Just go in. I promise he doesn’t bite.”
“Alright.” Mai took a deep breath and started walking toward the door, but had to stop again as the pig darted across her path a second time. He squealed at her and snorted as if scolding her.
“What is he doing?” Ayami laughed incredulously.
“I guess he doesn’t want us to leave him out here.” Mai reached for the door, testing her hypothesis. The pig squealed again.
Ayami gave her friend a wink and then scooped the pig up into her arms. He wriggled and squealed furiously, but she had him and he couldn’t escape. “Go on. I’ve got this.”
“Ok,” Mai smiled, feeling a bit conflicted. She went inside with a last wave to her friend. As the door shut behind her, she felt suddenly wrapped in a sense of calm. There was a soft sound like the sea playing quietly, and the office smelled of some lightly sweet herb. Everything was done in shades of lavender, white, and light blue.
She cleared her throat. “H-hello?”
“Be right there!” A man’s voice came from the back, followed a moment later by the man himself. He was older, a bit thick around the waist, with a thick head of gray hair and large, dark eyes that exuded kindness. “I’m Botan Nakamura, but please, call me Bo. Welcome to my office.”
Mai felt immediately at ease. “It’s nice to meet you, Bo. I have an appointment? Umm, my friend, Ayami, she’s -”
“One of my favorite clients. Yes. She mentioned she had a friend in need of some guidance.” He smiled.
“Y-yes. I don’t know how much she told you. I’m . . . I have these strange dreams that feel very real. Like memories. And I’ve passed out, a few times now.”
He nodded, as if this were very common and not at all weird. “She did mention that. There are several possible causes. You may have some repressed trauma. Or a hurt you did not deal with as it happened that has triggered a blend of memory and imagination. We will find out together.”
Mai took a breath. “Is it possible that I’m remembering a past life?”
“Possible, yes. Likely? No. I don’t want to disappoint you, miss. But I’ve had very few clients in a long life of practice with genuine or verifiable past life memories.” He gestured to the door he’d come through. “We’ll go through an episode together, and see what we think.”
“Good. I - I just want to know what’s happening to me.”
“It might take more than one session to get to the bottom of it, but I am sure with time we’ll figure this out together.”
There was something so certain in his voice, and so caring that Mai felt safe trying this. She was still worried about what they would find.
In the back, Mai sat down on a comfortable overstuffed armchair. It was so soft, she felt as if she was being pulled slowly into the cushions. The room was dimly lit, and pervaded by the same sweet smell and susurration.
Bo sat across from her. “Have you ever been hypnotized before?”
“Umm. Not that I know of?”
He chuckled. “Well, it’s a bit like the feeling you have when you zone out at work or when you’re reading and the words come to life in your mind. Except instead of outward stimulation, we’re going to go inside the thoughts and memories in your mind.”
“Ok.” Mai nodded.
“Good. Nothing that happens here today can hurt you. You are safe. If you get frightened or feel you can’t go on, I want you to remember the word jackanape. Can you do that for me?”
“Jackanape. Yeah. Why that word?”
Bo smiled. “It’s something no one really says on accident. It’s novel, so you should be able to remember it no matter how lost in the trance you get. So, when you hear that word, or if you speak it, the trance will end.”
Mai nodded again.
“Then let’s get started.” Bo brought out a small crystal pendant dangling at the end of a silver chain. “This is a focus tool. I want you to look at the crystal. Watch how it moves. See the way the light turns inside the facets.”
His voice was melodic and smooth, and in a few moments, Mai couldn’t focus on anything he was saying. Just the sound of him, blending with the distant waves. The light was bending inside the crystal. Flickering from one surface to another, shattering and reforming in colorful bands of glimmering light. Back and forth. Back and forth.
There was sunlight. Different from the city, free of smog and haze. The air smelled different too, earthy. Mai blinked. This was . . . Azuchi. Yes! Her home since the wormhole took her to the Sengoku era. She laughed. How could she have forgotten where she was?
“What was that, little mouse? Something funny?” Mitsuhide stood nearby, a weapon resting atop his shoulder. A tanegashima. Because . . .
“You were going to teach me to shoot!”
He gave her a thin, sharp smile, though his tone belied the expression. “My little one is saying some very silly things all of the sudden. Perhaps you should rest, and have some water. I think the heat is getting to you.”
A host of emotions ran through her as she looked at him. Fear, respect, attraction, suspicion. What was he to her? Oh! Yes! Her teacher. Her guide, until she could go home. “I’m fine. I just got a little . . . distracted.”
“Is that so? By what?” His golden gaze drifted around the target range. There was no one nearby. Nothing of note.
“My thoughts.” She grinned. “So are you going to teach me or not?”
Mitsuhide laughed. “Eager. I suppose I can’t ask for more from a pupil. But only a few moments ago you were afraid to learn. Afraid you might actually need to shoot someone.”
“Well. I still don’t want to do that. I won’t. But learning new things is good.” Mai felt a telltale queasiness. She’d seen someone shot. In battle. The images flashed through her mind, but she quelled them.
“Then let’s get started.” His voice matched with another distant voice, a calm man with kind eyes, lifetimes removed.
For a moment, Mai felt dizzy, but Mitsuhide’s firm hand caught her shoulder before she could stumble. “Thanks.”
He studied her, concern etched in his gaze. “Are you sure we shouldn’t do this another time? You’re acting strangely. Even for you.”
“I’m fine,” she insisted.
After a long moment, he nodded. “I’m going to have you fire the tanegashima first. Then we’ll work on learning all the parts, how to clean, how to load.” Mitsuhide stepped behind her and settled the heavy firearm in her hands. The butt rested against her shoulder, where he braced her from behind.
The pose was intimate. Mai felt a heat rise to her cheeks, her heart racing. He was so attractive, with his bright gaze and sharp wit. She could feel his hair tickle the back of her neck, the warmth of his chest pressed to her shoulder blades. He smelled of gunpowder and bellflowers, sweet citrus and sharp sulfur. “S-so what now?”
“Now, take aim at the target there. Try for the main body.” His voice brushed against her ear like velvet, and sent a pleasant shiver down her spine.
Mai tried to sight down the barrel. “And then?”
“Pull the trigger.” His hands wrapped around hers, gentle and firm. “Go ahead.”
She pulled the trigger and there was a slight hiss, then a loud bang. The firearm bucked in her arms, kept in place mostly by Mitsuhide’s support.
“Good job, little one. Look. You -”
The warmth of his embrace dissolved. She was standing in his office. Her face felt hot.
“I have a dreadful suspicion you’ve come here to cheer me up.” Mitsuhide was looking at her with a mix of hilarity and distaste, a cruel smile curling the edges of his lips.
“That’s right,” Mai stammered, remembering suddenly why she was here, in his room, late at night. All alone. There were so many rumors about the left hand of the Oda. Rumors that he was a traitor, in league with the demon abbot. That he was at fault for the fire that almost killed Nobunaga. But she knew none of it was true.
He began to laugh.
“Why are you laughing? I’m being completely serious!” And vulnerable, she thought. This had been a bad idea, clearly.
“You were actually worried for my emotional condition in light of this news?” Mitsuhide cocked his head, a cold curiosity lighting his gaze.
Mai looked away, unable to meet his gaze any longer. “Yes. I was. Shouldn’t I be? I’ve been the subject of nasty gossip before. It ruins your concentration and makes you angry but you can’t act on it. It sucks!”
“I fear your ability to sympathize with people will put you in danger someday.” He paused and then added, “Besides, what if this gossip turns out to be true?”
Mitsuhide pushed a lock of hair back from her cheek. “Fewer people than you think act with good intentions. You must learn that.” He leaned close, his fingers light on her chin. “Little one, please. Listen. More take advantage of the good hearted than you suspect. Playing sympathy for their ill purposes. And they may be closer to you than you think.”
The words were phrased as a warning, but there was a gentle warmth beneath them. A sweetness that made her heart sing. “I -”
“As close as I am now.” His cheek brushed against hers as he came close enough to kiss. “This is my manor. No one will come if they hear screams. Knowing that, what will you do?”
Mai reacted with sudden fury, pushing him back away from her as she slipped from his grip. The very defensive moves he’d taught her. She saw a flash of hurt in his expression, quickly replaced by grim determination. She opened her mouth to ask why - why did he pretend to threaten her when she could see the truth beneath his harsh veneer. But as she spoke the word, the world flashed and disappeared into fog.
There was only darkness. Empty except for tears and the light press of mist against her cheeks. Or was it rain? Mai reached her hands out, and felt the cold, wet drops patter against her palms. It was night time. It was raining. She was standing at a window, and in the distance . . . alarm bells.
Jackanape. The voice came from everywhere and nowhere. A distant echo. Jackanape! Wake up, Mai.
She didn’t want to wake up. Mai leaned out the window, and her eyes found what they sought. “M-mitsuhide?” Her voice quavered, loud in the silence. Was it really him? He was locked up, a prisoner in the dungeon, tortured.
“You haven’t fallen asleep and you’re not dreaming,” he chuckled. “I am here and I am real.”
“It really is you!” She closed the distance to him with quick steps. “Only you could read my mind so perfectly.” Her lips curved in a joyful smile and her eyes were wet with tears.
He beckoned her closer and when she stepped in arms’ reach, he swept her into an embrace.
Mai could feel her heart pounding as she clung to him, holding so tight she might never let go.
With his face nuzzled in her hair, he sighed. “This is a much warmer welcome than I expected. Did you miss me that much?”
“We have more important things to discuss. Like your jail break tonight. What is the plan? Where are we going?” She laid her head against his chest, luxuriating in the feel of him, of being held.
He laughed softly, a sound more sad than joyful. “We are not going anywhere. You should tell me to leave. Call the guards. I am a traitor - and an escaped prisoner. You should want nothing to do with me.”
“Pfft. I know better.” She cupped his cheek. “I may not know what you are fighting for, but I believe in it. I believe in you.”
“You are such a simple soul, my lo-little mouse. To say such things. It is almost admirable.” He pulled something from his sleeve before she could reply. It glimmered, catching what little light it could. A hairpin fit for a princess. Blue gemstones forming a bellflower, jade leaves clung to the slim silver tines of the pin. He placed it in her hand. “A farewell gift.”
“Mitsu … you didn’t come to my room tonight, risking danger and death, just to give me this, did you?” Mai could fear her throat close with fear for him. Fear for what might happen if he was caught.
“No. The gift was an afterthought. I only came to tease you one last time.” He gave her one of his thin, wide smiled. And just as she was about to retort, he brought his face to hers and sealed her lips with a kiss.
She poured all her longing into that touch. All her desire and love. And she felt him return it. He opened for her, heart and soul. Tongues twined, hands touching, stroking, hips pressed to hips. I would die for this, Mai thought. Mitsuhide meant everything to her. Beloved.
Mai! Come back! Jackanape, dammit!
The voice pulled her away from him, from this moment. She fought to hold onto him, to stay here. Here where she was loved and knew love. But the draw on her mind was too strong. She felt herself falling back to the void, to dark and mist. To nothing.
Wake up!

It was a frizzy summer afternoon, lazy as only a warm day can be one I am enjoying to the fullest listening to the soft music of crickets hidden in the bushes painted in warm hues by the fading light of the setting sun, admiring the way the lanterns were being lit up one by Ranmaru, before he retreats to his house not far from our little cottage.
He was my first true friend and also the one that let me meet my lover.
I gaze mindlessly at the garden, thinking about him that managed against all odds to win my heart and bring me back home to his side.
He was the only one crazy enough to deal with a weirdo like me but if that was love then so be it.
I sigh softly, caressing the golden band on my left ring finger, memories of all kinds resurface in my mind like on a silver screen, making me smile as I vow to myself to do my best to show him how much he made me happy like I do my best to make him.
The stars begin to sparkle in the dark blue velvet blanket of the sky, a smile curl my lips as I caught his form walking on the stoned path that from our cottage led to a quiet clearing in the forest, where he meditate before dinner.
There is a bashful smile on his usually stern lips, unusually so, it reminds me of when we started dating.
He was so shy and inexperienced like me and still we made it work together, me and him against the world fighting the odds like two weirdos against the stream.
Something curiosu glimmer in his eyes, shy and unsure, it seem like he was hiding something from me and yet I don’t know what. too curious to back down I am about to ask … when suddenly before my eyes it appears a bouquet.
It was colourful and messy … like him, but offered with such a sweet smile it was enough to warm my heart at his kind gesture.
“Would you like to go on a tryst with me ?”
Typically he limited himself to asking if I wanted to, but that gift warmed my heart.
Kicho must have told him it was a custom in westerner countries to bring a gift to someone’s lover when asking out on a date.
The idea that he went out of his way to learn and adopt a custom from my homeland made my heart swell with affection.
His silver eyes crinkled with affection lock on mine, waiting with bated breath for an answer, paying no mind to how uncomfortable his kneeled position must be, his question more a plea he was asking humbly to grace him with my presence during his walk, I read it in his softened features so bright and hopeful as he smiles at me waiting like a knight for my answer, making me feel like a Queen, he never fails to remind me, I am to him.
“I would very much like to, thank you.”
I took the bouquet, admiring the light mishap way the red ribbon tied them all together, when my gaze fell suddenly on something.
I saw his eyes glimmering with happiness as he sat on the patio next to me holding the bouquet carefully against his chest to let me take the treasure hidden among the leaves.
There wrapped in an embroidered piece of red fabric, which I recognize coming from one of my haori, was a plush … or better two plush, a cat and a ferret sewn side by side, dressed in clothes to a closer glance that look like ours.
I try, to no avail, to hide tears pricking at my eyes, to anyone else that gift wouldn’t be much.
But to me, it is.
His love stark in each seam and details, I carefully caress with my fingers admiring my treasure, no doubting he had sewn that himself in that little free time he had, time he never fails to reserve for me alone, like the many nights and meal he spent with me only to make me happy, at the cost of being late to his work and even skipping it all together.
It warmed my heart in a way it was hard to describe, words flew by as futile devices while I gaze at him, clutching the two peluches to my chest. I lean over to him, brushing my lips on his cheek, revelling in the light blush on his cheeks matching my own as I smile back at him gazing straight in his silver eyes, filled with affection as he wraps one arm around my waist keeping me close.
“Thank you for the gift. I love it.”
“I am so very happy you do my little. I really hoped that was the case.”
“How can I do anything but ? You sewed that yourself for me that alone made it the most priceless treasure in the whole world to me.”
I wrap my arm around his torso, keeping the other carefully cradled on his chest along the peluches.
“I made it thinking of you, of us.”
“I guessed it by the dresses, I can say it’s the best gift you could have ever given me.”
“I am honoured you think so, my love.”
And if his gift wasn’t enough to fill my heart with love his words make up the rest for me, I hid my face in his chest hiding my blush from him, but before I could conceal it further he cupped my face, stroking the apple of my cheek with his rough thumb.
“Don’t hide away from me my gorgeous Goddess please allow me to bathe in your grace.”
I got lost in the love swimming in his gaze, crinkled with affection as he looks down at me, his nose brushing my own so close our lips could have touched if he wanted to, a hint to what I wish I give him closing my eyes, smiling at the sensation of his warm breath fanning over my sensitive lips before he finally melts them together.
I kiss him back eagerly to feel him come undone for me, and me alone as I do for him, moaning as he slips his tongue past my lips only to chase my own, entwining together, suppressing his own light groans as I slide my fingers in his messy curls.
A soft sigh escape my lips as he pulls back leaning his forehead to mine, holding me close as we regain our breath, thinking nothing of the fact anyone may have seen us, and not only the crickets that continue carelessly to play their song in the bushes, but also his disciples whose distaste for public display of affection, let alone unfriendliness toward me, threatened to tear us apart … thing he fought with teeth and claw to change managing to sway their opinion toward me.
Yet the idea of having an audience isn’t a deterrent to our effusion, quite the contrary judging by the way he kisses me again, conveying his love in the gentle movements of his lips that trail to pepper little kisses all over my shoulder, nibbing softly on the soft skin of my neck before raising once more to brush an achingly tender kiss on my forehead.
“I love you so very much Juliet, you are my only one.”
“I love you too Kennyo, only you.”
I would have liked to say we went on that walk, and maybe we did, all I could remember though it’s the long, sweet session of love making that followed it, with only the stars as audience, showing our affection to one another freely as we never felt like before.
Sure there will be gossip and rumour among his disciples and even among the westerner merchant, but we didn’t mind if this is the price for loving one another then so be it.
I smile to myself, nuzzling better in his embrace, ready to drift off to sleep on the warm and comforting embrace of my lovely, sometimes gruff, ever kind, sweet as honey, soft ferret, smiling as I feel his gentle lips kissing my forehead as he tightened his arms around me, blissfully engulfed in the smouldering warmth of our love.

RYOANZUGIE HEADCANONS!
Hi tumblr. Do you like gay people? I sure do!! this was a style test as i've been very inspired by milkkirie lately and wanted to redo my old ryoanzugie lineup. hope u all enjoy <3 more information + text version under the cut!
anzu kinashi is 17, uses any pronouns but prefers she/it/honk, is genderfluid, pansexual, and polyamorous. short and chubby, very circular. her accessories are usually gold. dresses in bright colors, clowncore kidcore kind of stuff. her and ranmaru are best friends!! in school i imagine she excels in sporty extracurriculars, probably does track or something. my idea of school for them is very americanized so i apologize if anyone doesn't really like that. works as a clown on the side. wants to be a gymnast so she could do some cirque du soileil shit!! she is the sun in their relationship ☀️
ryoko hirose is 17, uses they/she pronouns, is nonbinary polyamorous & a lesbian. tall and lanky. triangles. her accessories are usually silver. dresses in comfortable, loose clothing. lots of blues and greys, they are like a dark academia fairycore kind of girl But make it wintery. If that makes sense?? Best friends with Joe and Sara obviously. i imagine they are like.. a really popular person? Very well known in school, probably on a student council. Would be a teachers pet. i headcanon them and joe WERE dating but was like "i am. a lesbian. Help me?" and joe went "yeah ok i got you IF you help me with sara lol" and fake dated for a little while while ryoko wingmanned for joe. I think the two of them are super good friends and bond over being fans of Samurai Yaiba (ryoko is like reko megafan #1.) they are the moon in their relationship 🌙
kugie kizuchi is 17, uses he/she pronouns, is a transmasc nonbinary lesbian & polyamorous. short and blocky, squares and rectangles. accessories are usually bronze but dabbles in a bit of silver. black, dark, leather clothing, he dresses very punk and techwear. this design is simple but i promise i lean more into the leather jackets and spikey accessories and lots of grungey layers. I headcanon him as kind of .. mean, as a front. Very protective of the ones she loves but doesn't allow those to get close to him; keeps up an icy and distant wall. Other than that she's just kinda perpetually chilling. i think he and ranmaru have a love-hate relationship; they're mean to each other for the joke and most people probably think they hate each other but they're pretty solid pals. I know Kugie is supposed to be like sara (kind, dependable and trustworthy) i think she is dependable and trustworthy but NOT super kind. They're on opposite sides of the personality spectrum. sara is sweet and nice but kugie is blunter and ruder but theyre both still good people. he is the star in their relationship ⭐
thank you for reading and thank you for the love.

Chapter Two — Session Triangle
Tumblr media
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You… what’d ya come here for this time?
We are in a complex in the city center, inside the showroom of a high-class brand.
Kurosaki-senpai scowls at me fiercely inside this grand shop with a luxurious atmosphere.
Haruka Nanami: I was put in charge of arranging the song that will be performed today. Please take care of me.
I bow, holding back the desire to turn on my heel and run.
Last month, even though he rejected my request to become partners, I kept searching for a way to get closer to Kurosaki-senpai. It was there that I found this job.
The job involves arranging the music for a promotional video that will be played at the brand’s fashion show.
My composition instructor, who I have been in the care of, is the one who composed the music.
When they became too busy for the job, the search began for someone else to arrange the song, so I put forth my candidacy.
And so….
Haruka Nanami: I am here today as the person who is in charge of the arrangement.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You were the one who arranged the song? Tch, I can't believe I didn't realise sooner. What's wrong with me….
Kurosaki-senpai clicks his tongue as he says that, averting his gaze to the middle of the room.
For today’s filming of the promotional video, we will be making use of the actual store.
It seems that because Kurosaki-senpai helped to design the silver accessories, he received the offer for this job.
Incidentally, the design of the accessories are all made with the theme of ‘music’ in mind.
To say it’s uncharacteristic of him is rude but… it’s quite a delicate design.
Haruka Nanami: T-The filming will be of a live music performance, is that right? Umm, I’m looking forward to it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: …………
In order to do something about the awkward atmosphere in the place, I try desperately to start a conversation with Kurosaki-senpai.
On the filming set, they are in the process of setting up the instruments.
A wood bass, also known as a double bass, and a piano. According to the arrangement, they should also be bringing a cello.
Haruka Nanami: I was able to meet the pianist who will be playing today when I went to give them the sheet music but… I wonder who will play the double bass and cello?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … I’m the one who’s gonna play the double bass.
Haruka Nanami: Huh…? Senpai will be playing?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What? It’s no different to a bass, right? Or you have something against me playin’?
Haruka Nanami: N-No, it’s just surprising, that’s all. Well then, who will be the one playing the cello?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I dunno. Besides, would you quit—
Camus: Why are you two standing in the middle of the path? Move it, you’re in the way, fools.
Just when Kurosaki-senpai looks annoyed and is about to say something, Camus-senpai appears carrying a cello with him.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … That’s a cello, isn’t it?
Haruka Nanami: It’s a cello.
“What are you so surprised about?” Camus-senpai asks as he looks at us.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Of all the people, it was Camus. Of course, I requested for someone who could play string instruments… I got unlucky.
Kurosaki-senpai hits his forehead while Camus-senpai passes by him leisurely.
Assistant Director: Kurosaki-san, we’ve finished setting up the double bass.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Got it, I’ll be there! Hah… geez….
Heaving a sigh, he makes his way over to the instruments.
On that day, after seeing Kurosaki-senpai at the café, I tried to look up his past. Before his debut, he was involved in bands in his hometown until one day, he came to Tokyo.
However, just when he was about to debut, his band’s leader disappeared with their lover. The next band that he became a part of also broke up due to some trouble involving women.
When he was left by himself he was scouted by the president, and it seems that’s how he came to debut as part of our agency. The circumstances surrounding that are written in music magazines and on the internet, so the information is made public.
But the things before then…? I couldn’t find anything related to the conversation that I overheard at the café.
I could ask Jinguji-san or Hijirikawa-san, or even daringly ask Kurosaki-senpai himself, but… I’m afraid of what they might think.
As I'm thinking about those things, I look over at Kurosaki-senpai who's tuning the double bass.
It’s almost time for filming to start, but it doesn’t seem like they're ready to begin yet.
Apparently it’s because the pianist who will be playing for the performance hasn't arrived yet.
Director: Kurosaki-san, if you have a moment….
The director goes up to Kurosaki-senpai and begins to whisper in his ear in a low voice.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Huh, a car accident? Are we still able to film then?
Camus: What happened?
Camus-senpai stops in the middle of opening his cello case.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Seems like the pianist was involved in an accident. Their car was hit from behind. There were no serious injuries, but they did sprain their wrist.
Camus: Hmph… so this means the filming will be postponed? It seems I came out all this way for nothing.
Director: But there’s the store’s schedule as well, and we’re barely making the deadline. We have to start shooting within today, or else….
The surrounding staff start to move in search of a replacement pianist.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: No, there’s no way we’re gonna be able to find someone who can play this song so suddenly….
Kurosaki-senpai stares at the sheet music.
Today’s song is a rock song arranged into a classical style, so it’s very unique and the sheet music is quite difficult as well.
The pianist had to practice beforehand when I handed them the sheet music, so it should be very difficult to play by sight-reading.
Director: Even if you say that….
We have to do something. Isn’t there something we can do…?
Haruka Nanami: Um, if you give me some time, I can simplify the arrangement to make it easier to play.
I make up my mind and decide to put forth that suggestion.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don’t suggest something so stupid. This is different from the live show that time. This ain’t the kinda composition where you can make changes so it sounds different.
Haruka Nanami: Oh…… but…!
As I say that, Kurosaki-senpai looks at me as though he's just thought of something.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Course. Hey you, can you play this song?
Haruka Nanami: Eh…? Well yes, I was the one who arranged the song so of course I can play it but….
Kurosaki-senpai pauses, and after a few seconds of thought he opens his mouth.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Just this once, since we don’t have a choice. ‘Sides, it will just be a shot from the back. No one’ll even know.
Haruka Nanami: You can’t mean….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You’re gonna play the piano in place of the pianist. It’s settled. Normally we wouldn’t let someone working behind the scenes on set, but this time’s an emergency. You gotta do it.
Camus: Oh, you might have just come up with a good idea. I’m busy as well, and if we were to miss today’s chance, there might not be another opening in my schedule.
At Kurosaki-senpai’s words, Camus-senpai quickly expresses his agreement.
Director: You’re right. Compared to the pianist we arranged, there’s not much difference in their heights. Can we ask you to do it?
Since Kurosaki-senpai agrees, the director also requests me to do it.
Haruka Nanami: There’s no way, saying that so suddenly….
I’m not confident that I will be able to play well.
As I'm about to say that, my eyes meet with those of Kurosaki-senpai.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Are ya gonna do it or not? Which is it?
Select the phrase!
I’ll do it! (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Ah… I’ll do it!!
It scares me to think about what might happen if I can’t play well, but if there’s a possibility that I can be of even a little help….
I return Kurosaki-senpai’s gaze with all my might.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hah, good answer. ‘Kay, let’s try it.
Tumblr media
It would be better left to some... (+10 Love)
I stop mid-sentence and swallow my words.
Right now, there’s no other person who can play this song. As the one who arranged the song, I understand that more than anyone.
If I’m able to be of some help, I’ll try and do it to the best of my ability.
Haruka Nanami: I’ll do it...
I muster up the courage and reply like that.
Tumblr media
…… (+0 Love)
I don’t have the words for something so sudden and stand there frozen.
In front of me is Kurosaki-senpai, who stands there looking at me as if irritated, waiting for an answer.
That’s right, this is work….
Work isn’t just doing the things that have been decided, but also making your own judgments based on the situation.
Haruka Nanami: … I can play for you.
Somehow, I'm able to respond like that.
Tumblr media
Although it's been decided that I'll play, as expected, we need a disguise of some sort.
So they borrow some clothes from the store and a long wig, and ask me to change into them.
They give me a white dress, but I’m not used to exposing my shoulders. Is this really okay…?
After I get changed, I return to the set just as Kurosaki-senpai and Camus-senpai finish their preparations.
Haruka Nanami: Sorry to keep you waiting.
Director: Ohh, yes that’s just the right look for the role. Not bad at all! Don’t you think so, Kurosaki-kun?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: …
Kurosaki-senpai looks at me for an instant, and averts his gaze without saying anything.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: C’mon, what’re you standing around for. Get movin’.
Haruka Nanami: I’m sorry!!
Hurriedly, I make my way over to the grand piano.
We are shooting the scene with the instruments being played as part of a performance.
The male character stops playing, comes close to the female character and puts a necklace on her.
Just as he finishes putting it on, the piano part of the performance will end, and that’s how the scene is to be played out.
Camus: Child, we need to tune.
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes!
At Camus-senpai’s words, I quickly go to play the A key but… What should I do? I might be nervous.
Even though I’m usually fine playing the piano in front of other people, when I remember that we’re in the middle of filming, I can’t help but become nervous.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oi, you okay? The note is quivering….
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes. For now, I’m going to try playing.
And so, I review the sheet music but…. Ah, I played a wrong note. Not again….
I keep playing the wrong notes due to nerves, and that only further increases my nervousness. The surrounding staff also begin to look my way worriedly.
I have to keep it together…. But the more I think about it, my fingers just won’t stop shaking.
As this continues, the sound of Kurosaki-senpai’s steps can be heard loudly as he makes his way over to the piano.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oi! Pull yourself together!
Beside the piano, Kurosaki-senpai looks down at me.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, I’m sorry….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: The arrangement ain’t bad, and somehow your appearance is enough to fool people. It’ll be fine, so just get it together and play!
In a panic, I keep nodding my head.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Geez, this ain’t even anything t’be nervous about. All ya gotta do is play the piano properly, and Camus and I will do something ‘bout the rest.
You just concentrate on the keys.
That is all he says before returning to his own position.
Once more, I look towards the keys. The shaking in my fingers is going away. I run my fingers along the keys.
It will be okay. I just have to play as I usually do and I can do this performance. Lifting my head, I look at Kurosaki-senpai and he nods at me faintly.
After that, we go through and check the performance a couple of times, as well as confirming the order for the various actions.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru Kurosaki: ‘Kay then, we’re gonna start shootin’ for real. We’re pressed for time, so let’s nail it in one take.
Camus: Of course. Child, don’t go making any silly mistakes either.
Haruka Nanami: Yes!
It feels like some of the nerves have come back, but still I nod and with a deep breath, I place my fingers on the keys.
Director: Okay then, this is for real. Aaaaand, action!!
After a brief silence, the sound of Kurosaki-senpai pulling his bow across the strings of the double bass resounds throughout the store. Just like that time at the live show; a deep, sharp, and sweet sound. What’s this, my body is beginning to feel warm….
Then, the graceful sound of Camus-senpai’s cello begins to become entwined. Cold and fine, a sound that also shines and sparkles. I focus on the sounds that began to flow and run my fingers along the top of the keys.
The strong sound of the piano begins to intertwine with the deep notes of the bass and the delicate sound of the cello. Three completely different sounds become one in expression. It feels amazing.
As I look up, I exchange glances with Kurosaki-senpai. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I feel like I catch him smiling just a little. That makes me happy, and I put even more of my heart into the performance as I continue to play.
Before long, the sound of Kurosaki-senpai’s bass fades out, and Camus-senpai stopps playing as well. Smiling gracefully, Camus-senpai puts down his bow.
Kurosaki-senpai stands up and slowly begins to make his way over. As if glaring me down, he looks at me and circles around me when he gets to the piano.
Tumblr media
First is my ears. Tucking my hair behind my ears, he gently puts on the earrings for me. It feels a little ticklish, and on reflex my shoulders began to quiver.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … Keep it together.
He chides me in a small voice. Immediately, I return my gaze to my hands playing the piano. He continues with slow movements, removing the stole from around my shoulders and letting it drop down.
Holding the necklace in his hands, his fingers brush the nape of my neck. Each one of his movements is so gentle and delicate. It feels so comfortable.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … That’s a good sound. Keep goin’ like that. For now, just leave it all t’me.
At those whispered words, my consciousness feels as if it's slipping away. But just as he said, I desperately run my fingers along the keys so that the sound doesn’t stop. At that point….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Ugh… what’s this?
Without asking him aloud what is the matter, my hands continue to play and I ask using only my eyes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Crap, some hair’s caught in the clasp….
W-What do we do…?!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It’s fine, don’t move. And don’t panic. I’ve got this.
As I start getting teary-eyed, I nod.
Keeping his hands around my neck, Kurosaki-senpai gently brushes the loose strands from my nape. Just like that, as if embracing me, he peers at the clasp. Blending in with the sounds of the piano, I heard the faint click of the clasp being secured.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: And… alright, there we go. And you, you ain’t lookin’ too bad.
He sighs, a puff of air hitting the nape of my neck. Just as he leaves me, the last notes of the piano slowly begin to fade out.
Director: Cut! Okay! We’re going to check it now!!
The sound of the staff’s voice begins to resound.
Haruka Nanami: Hah… I… I’m tired.
Camus: Don’t tell me you’re exhausted just from that. All you did was play the piano. It’s not like you had to lift it.
Haruka Nanami: Well yes, that is true but….
Even more than the nerves I was feeling from being able to play properly, it feels like my heart won’t stop beating.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey, Camus. What was that? Don’t just go off playin’ your own arrangement during your solo part. I almost missed my cue to come in.
After finishing the check, Kurosaki-senpai comes over to us. He’s completely back to the way he was before.
Camus: When it’s a session like this, it should be expected that ad libs will occur. As for you, pulling off those exaggerated movements with your bow….
Don’t worry so much about the camera and pay more attention to your sound as well. What a narcissist.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You callin’ me the narcissist? I don’t wanna hear that from you!
Haruka Nanami: Um… please, both of you….
Camus: Hmph!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Tch!
At that point, Kurosaki-senpai’s eyes land on the cello that Camus-senpai is beginning to put away.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Is that… a scratch on the side of the cello…?
Shaking his head lightly, he turns towards me.
Haruka Nanami: Is something the matter?
He tells me not to worry about it and to get changed, so I go on my way to a different room.
Tumblr media
As I return to the studio again, everyone has already started packing up. Kurosaki-senpai and Camus-senpai are also putting their respective instruments away carefully. It seems they brought their own personal instruments.
Director: Hey, great work out there! You were a big help. The arrangement wasn’t bad either. Looking forward to working with you from now on!
Haruka Nanami: Yes, I look forward to working with you as well.
Thank goodness, it seems I was able to be useful.
Camus-senpai walks past me carrying his cello as I exchange greetings with the other staff.
Camus: I’ll take my leave here then.
Haruka Nanami: Thank you for your hard work!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey, that cello. It’s a Grancino, isn’t it? Just where did you find that?
Camus: What? You, how did you know?
Camus-senpai stops in his tracks.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, the sound is really different compared t’regular cellos.
The cello that Kurosaki-senpai just named is one that’s worth 20 million yen.
Camus: You knew? As expected from the son of an aristocrat, even though it’s fallen to ruin. His ears are not mistaken.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What? Did you say something?
Camus: No, it was nothing. This cello… I received it from someone.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Received? Somethin’ that highly valued?
Camus-senpai nods quietly.
Camus: Yes, from a person of high class. Now then, if you’ll excuse me.
Camus-senpai leaves after bowing gracefully.
Kurosaki-senpai watches Camus-senpai leave with an expression of mixed feelings.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: He said he received that cello…? Just who would….
For starters, the scratch on that cello… it’s the exact same as the one that used to be in my house a long time ago….
Haruka Nanami: Um… Kurosaki-senpai?
The way that he’s murmuring sounds like he’s troubled, so I peer at his face and call out to him.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It’s nothin’.
Kurosaki-senpai gives me a curt reply and picks up his belongings.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: ‘Kay, if you’re ready then let’s get goin’. Follow me.
Haruka Nanami: Okay? Um… where to?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: We’re gettin’ food.
Tumblr media
After following behind Kurosaki-senpai, we arrive at a gorgeous building. We'll make our way through the front entrance… or so I think. Instead, Kurosaki-senpai heads towards the underground parking lot.
We arrive at the back door, where Kurosaki-senpai exchanges some words with the security guard before we enter the elevator. We're led into a private room, where he immediately passes a menu to me.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Here. Pick whatever ya like.
Somehow, it looks like we really came here to eat….
Kurosaki-senpai observes the menu as if he’s familiar with it.
I'm at a loss and still digesting what's happening when senpai speaks up.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … About the shoot just now. Don’t mention to anyone at the agency that you were on camera when you were s’posed to stay behind the scenes, got it? But more than anythin’,
I hate building up a debt. Instead of payment, I’ll treat ya instead. Eat whatever you want.
Oh, I see.
Haruka Nanami: Um, is this really okay? I mean, it feels really expensive….
To prevent me from finding out, the prices aren’t written in the menu.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You don’t have to worry ‘bout it. Just go ahead and pick somethin’.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, in that case….
Select the phrase!
I’ll have what you’re having… (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Um… I’m fine with ordering the same thing as you.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hah? You, you don’t even know what you wanna eat?
Haruka Nanami: N-No, it’s not that! I didn’t know what to choose and….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What a pain…. If ya lost, pick from here. So what’ll it be?
Taking the menu in my hands with his fingers, he jabs at a section of it with his finger.
Haruka Nanami: Okay, I guess I’ll have the fish…?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Geez, when I already said I’d treat you. You should be eating meat! Meat!
Haruka Nanami: Ehh?!
W-Wow… such vigor.
Tumblr media
Tiramisu (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Okay, I’ll have the tiramisu….
When I lift my head and say that, I'm met with the eyes of Kurosaki-senpai scowling sharply at me.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Are you an idiot?! Will your stomach be satisfied with sweets!? If I say I’m treatin’ ya, it should be meat! You’re gonna have the steak. Got it?
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes!!
Tumblr media
Lamb steak (+20 Love)
Haruka Nanami: I’ll have… the lamb steak.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: ‘Kay, a steak huh? Not a bad choice.
Upon hearing my order, Kurosaki-senpai seems satisfied with my answer and nods. I wonder if he likes steak as well?
In a good mood, he hums to himself as he picks something from the menu.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: ‘Kay, guess I’ll have the same. Anyhow, meat’s good for buildin’ stamina and it’s good on the throat too. For a musician, meat is the way to go.
Haruka Nanami: Is that so?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: But I only have it on occasion. It’s expensive stuff, after all. So you better appreciate it.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, thank you very much!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, it’s ‘cause you’re a bit of a musician.
Tumblr media
When we've decided, Kurosaki-senpai calls one of the wait staff over.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: We’ll have two steaks, both cooked rare. Also, what’ve you got for wine?
He converses with the wait staff as if he’s done it before.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Then, I’ll have a glass of that one. And you, what’re you gonna have?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, I’ll have an orange juice.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Oh that’s right, you’re still underage. Ah well, and one orange juice please.
Kurosaki-senpai closes the menu and hands it to the wait staff. Once more, it’s just the two of us.
There are so many things I want to talk to him about, but I become too nervous and no words will come out. Speaking of him, his eyes are clear as he turns to look outside the window.
What should we talk about…?
Select the phrase!
Talk about the way back from the hospital (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Thank you very much for showing me the way back from the hospital the other day.
Kurosaki-senpai faces his gaze my way.
Haruka Nanami: You see, I haven’t thanked you for that yet.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It’s ‘cause I saw you going the complete opposite direction after gettin’ in the taxi. So? Were you able to make it back?
Haruka Nanami: Yes, I was fine thanks to you telling me the way.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don’t go losin’ your way over such a short distance. Speaking of, you got lost that time at the live show as well, didn’t you?
Haruka Nanami: Ahaha… yes, that’s right. T-That live show, it was really good!!
“That right?”, is all he says in response.
Tumblr media
Talk about last month’s live show (+30 Love)
Haruka Nanami: U-Um, about the live the other day, you were so cool! Actually, that day was the first time I had seen one of your shows live and in person….
While resting his chin in his hands, he turns his eyes my way.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That’s good. After all, hearin’ things live is the best.
Haruka Nanami: Yes! Something about the enthusiasm, or the sense of unity in the place. There was also a broad age range within the fans… but everyone looked like they were having fun.
I want to express the emotions I felt and the unity amongst the fans, but I can’t convey it well with my words. But Kurosaki-senpai relaxes a little.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: A bunch of different people come to those shows. To me, each one o’ them is precious.
Haruka Nanami: P-Precious? Aside from the girls, there were some male fans too though….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That place, it’s one for people who empathize with my music to gather. It doesn’t matter if they’re girls or guys, or their age, none of that matters. ‘Cause we understand each other through music.
For the people who have gathered around my music, I’ve decided I’m not gonna do anything that’ll betray ‘em. That’s why I don’t do anything half-heartedly. I’m always serious.
To those who seek music, I’ll give music back to ‘em, and what I receive in turn makes me feel alive.
I had no idea he had that way of thinking….
As expected, he’s earnest when it comes to music, and above all else, he treasures his fans.
Haruka Nanami: Um, is it okay if I go to another of your live shows again…?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: So you’ve empathized with the sound. Come if ya like.
Haruka Nanami: Okay!
I feel like I’ve come to understand the feelings of his fans.
Tumblr media
Talk about the view outside the window (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Um… it’s a nice view, isn’t it?
I didn’t realize it when we came up here in the elevator, but it seems we’re up pretty high. Down below, the cityscape stretches before us.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Yeah, it’s a good view. I like being able to see the scenery from up high.
Resting his chin in his hands, he closes his eyes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: The view from when you’re standing atop a stage is also great. As far as you can see… Well, in smaller crowds you can see everyone’s faces and that ain’t bad either.
Seeing his face from the side, I can see that he looks a little happy.
Haruka Nanami: Your live show from the other day was amazing! Even though we met right after the show, I didn’t get a chance to tell you….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You say that we met, but in truth you simply got lost, ain’t that right? Geez, and that time going back from the hospital too. You tend t’lose your way a lot, don’t ya?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, ahaha….
The atmosphere feels a little lighter now.
Tumblr media
Just as the atmosphere in the room lightens up, our food and drinks are brought out to us.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Speakin’ of, just what happened at Parsley the other day?
He asks me suddenly while holding his glass in one hand.
Haruka Nanami: Eh?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That time, you were in the restaurant. What really happened?
Kurosaki-senpai looks at me directly.
Haruka Nanami: That… I’m not sure if it’s okay for me to explain in their place….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Even when I ask Gramps and Gran, they won’t tell me a thing. I’m worried.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, how do you know the old man and old woman who run Parsley?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: …
Oh no, he's glaring at me. Maybe I shouldn’t have asked….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It was a……… j-j……b.
Haruka Nanami: Eh?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I said it was a part-time job! I used to work in their kitchen. That’s it!
Haruka Nanami: You had a part-time job in a restaurant?
But Kitchen Parsley feels like a family restaurant, and it’s quite cozy.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Geez, quit repeating every single detail! What, you got something to say ‘bout it?
Haruka Nanami: N-No I don’t!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: This was when I first came to Tokyo. All I had was my bass, and I didn’t have any money. I tried all sorts of jobs, but in the end I settled on that restaurant.
‘Cause they provided free meals on the job. At the very least, I wouldn’t have to starve. It worked out perfectly.
Before his debut, he would come and go a lot between the live house and the restaurant, he explains.
Haruka Nanami: I-I see….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I’m indebted to them. That’s why even after I quit, I drop in to see how things are going. Just once in a while, like I was doin’ that day.
He heard from the other people in the neighbourhood that the old man and old woman had been taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
With that information… I explain to him what I had heard from the two of them.
I tell him about the loan money, about the shopping mall in front of the station, and finally about the people who showed up to collect the money that day.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I knew it. Thought it’d be something like that. I figured somethin’ was up but… they’ve gotten caught up with a troublesome bunch.
He sighs loudly.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That said, that old man… how terrible.
When he's finished hearing the story, Kurosaki-senpai shakes his head.
Haruka Nanami: That old man and old woman really treasure the restaurant, surely there’s something we can do to help them right…?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: The weak will disappear, and that’s just how things go. If they don’t wanna be put out of business, they have no choice but to get stronger.
Haruka Nanami: But everyone is going to the shopping mall in front of the station….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That’s just bad luck. But at present, we can’t expect that shopping mall to just go away. That aside, they have no choice but to do something.
Change the way they sell things, or rethink their approach rather than just waiting for customers to show up. If that doesn’t work, they might as well sell the restaurant.
Haruka Nanami: B-But that….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: So you would say it’s a pitiful situation they’re in? How naïve. Women can be so.... Just feeling sorry for them won’t change the situation they’re in.
It’s not like I want them to close up shop either. In the end, it’s all about strength. You gotta do somethin’ by your own strength.
As for me right now, I’ve got my hands full with my own problems….
Haruka Nanami: Your own problems…?
When I ask that, Kurosaki-senpai’s eyes go wide.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Listen up! If you have time to be worrying ‘bout other people's problems, then worry about yourself! You haven’t even been able to debut yet, geez.
Haruka Nanami: Ugh, y-yes…!
“Now that’s that, time to eat!”, he says to me.
Tumblr media
An hour passes.
Over dinner, we talk about things like the live show and the song used in today’s shoot.
Haruka Nanami: Listening to the sound of the double bass, I thought that jazz would also be quite fun to play.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It’s good, isn’t it? Speaking of jazz, at the agency’s welcoming party, I once did a jam session with Hyuga-san.
Haruka Nanami: Ehh!? With Hyuga-sensei? I would have liked to hear that!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: He plays the trumpet, you see. It was a while ago, but there should be a recording of it at the agency. If I recall, the one who played the piano was….
Since he’s had some to drink, Kurosaki-senpai is more talkative than usual. Eventually, our coffee is brought to our table.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Man, I’m stuffed. Gotta say, meat is the best….
Kurosaki-senpai sinks back in his seat and closes his eyes.
He looks happy now that he’s satisfied and his stomach is full.
Or maybe… he’s sleepy?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hey you, why did you start composing?
Haruka Nanami: Eh?
I pause in the middle of adding sugar to my coffee and look up, but I can’t see his expression.
I don’t know why he asked me that question, but maybe it’s his way of getting to know more about me.
Select the phrase!
It’s always been my dream (+20 Love)
Haruka Nanami: I wonder, just when did I start playing songs on the piano without needing sheet music… I can’t quite recall.
I guess I was able to say clearly “I want to write songs” because I found my dream.
Kurosaki-senpai looks my way.
Haruka Nanami: It was my dream to write songs for idols, and in fact it still is.
The reason why I enrolled in the academy was because I wanted to write songs for the idol I admired.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Admiration, huh.
Haruka Nanami: Yes, I admired them. Many things happened as I continued writing songs in that direction, and it wasn’t always easy but….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, it’s always like that when you’re starting out. I also thought that it was cool, and that’s how I started playing bass. Back when I was a kid.
Kurosaki-senpai murmurs that to me.
Tumblr media
For some reason or another (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: For some reason or another… I guess.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That’s pretty vague of you.
Haruka Nanami: But I really got into it so naturally. I first came to play the piano, then I would play songs without needing sheet music….
It was a very natural thing for me.
Tumblr media
I’ve liked music since I was young (+15 Love)
Haruka Nanami: Since I was small, my parents would take me to piano classes. That’s how I was introduced to it.
I fell in love with playing the piano. I began to play songs without needing sheet music, and that’s how I got to where I am now.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: My story is a little similar. I was able to come into contact with music at an early stage. I think I ought’a be more grateful for the environment I grew up in.
Haruka Nanami: You too, senpai?
When I ask him, he says, “I guess so” and nods his head.
Tumblr media
Sitting up, Kurosaki-senpai takes his coffee cup in hand.
Haruka Nanami: Also… since I was young, I’ve always been introverted and shy.
I'm so happy that he's taken an interest in me, so I try to explain it to him with all of my might.
Haruka Nanami: In songwriting, I’m able to express my own feelings. Without that self-expression, I’m terribly clumsy and awkward.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Is that right… the same as me….
Kurosaki-senpai mutters a few words to himself.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: In order to release my emotions, I also needed music.
Maybe that’s why your songs move my heart….
Haruka Nanami: Eh…? Did you say something?
Surprised by those words I never expected to hear, without thinking, I ask him about it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … ‘s nothing.
With those words, Kurosaki-senpai finishes off the rest of his coffee in one gulp.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Thank you for the meal.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I can charge it back to the agency, so you don’t have to thank me. Well then, see ya. Don’t get lost this time.
Haruka Nanami: U-Um…! Kurosaki-senpai!
I call out to him as I see his retreating back.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What is it?
Haruka Nanami: Um, in your family… is there someone who can play the cello?
When I ask him about the thing that's been on my mind since the shoot finished, he's a little lost for words.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … My old man. Or rather, it’d be more correct to say he used to play.
He answers with those few words.
Haruka Nanami: Ah… I-I see….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: See ya. And… good work out there today.
With a small wave of his hand, he disappears into the crowd of people.
Tumblr media
A few days later, when I'm on my way back from work, I decide to stop by the agency.
While talking with Kurosaki-senpai, I become increasingly interested in his music.
It seems that there are still some videos of him lying around the agency, so when I ask him, “Is it okay if I take a look?” he replies with “Do as you like”. Since he said it's okay, I’m not going to hold back.
Haruka Nanami: Even so, senpai’s father is….
Based on the conversation in the café, as well as how Kurosaki-senpai speaks about him, it seems he has already passed away. But to have had such an expensive cello lying around in their household, I wonder what kind of family they were.
I want to know even more about senpai himself. I start to think more about that….
When I arrive at the agency, it's deathly quiet. When it’s this late at night, it’s to be expected. I'm going to turn on the lights when I stop.
There shouldn’t be anyone else here, but it feels like someone is around.
Haruka Nanami: C-Could it be a burglar…?
Maybe someone was locked in while they were doing work? Unless, it couldn’t be… a ghost…?
In the darkness, I can hear a strange voice.
???: Your Majesty, accept my deepest apologies. Please just wait a little longer.
What is it, this voice? It’s getting closer. Panicking, I quickly hide myself in the shadow of a desk.
???: Even so, private information on Saotome is….
The door from inside the agency opens, and a tall male figure appears.
Eh…? Camus-senpai…? I wonder what he’s doing at a time like this. And he seems to be speaking, is there someone with them…?
As I come out from under the desk to get a better look, the documents that had been left on top start to fall and make a sound.
Camus: …!!
Who’s there!
Haruka Nanami: Ah, i-it’s… it’s me! It’s Nanami!!
Without thinking, I raise both of my hands. As the sound of footsteps gets closer, Camus-senpai appears in front of me.
Camus: You, what are you doing here? Did you hear any of that just now?
Haruka Nanami: I just came to look up something…. About that conversation, I couldn’t hear it very well.
Camus: Hmph. If that’s the case, then fine. Still, coming here to check on something in the middle of the night? How do I know you aren’t a spy from somewhere?
Haruka Nanami: A-A spy? No, I’m not!
Even after denying it, Camus-senpai’s brows crease and he glares at me. It seems that there’s been some sort of misunderstanding.
Haruka Nanami: Um, the truth is, I heard Kurosaki-senpai is also interested in jazz. I’m a little curious, so I was hoping to find some of those….
I heard that some of his old videos might still be here! Being able to share common topics is invaluable, and it’s a good chance to begin a conversation….
Camus: I don’t have any interest in the partnership between you fools, but….
Upon saying that, after thinking for a moment, Camus-senpai smiles at me with a wide grin.
Camus: If I were to tell you all about Kurosaki’s past, do you swear not to tell anyone about our meeting here tonight?
Haruka Nanami: Eh? Camus-senpai, why do you know about Kurosaki-senpai’s past?
Camus: Don’t ask too many questions. Answer me with yes or no!
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes! I won’t tell anybody!
Camus: Very good. Now then, child. Give me your email.
Even if he hadn’t said that, I would have been able to keep a secret. But it doesn’t seem that I was in a position to answer with no.
Camus: I’ll send all the data on Kurosaki to you at a later time.
His smile is icy cold as he laughs.
Haruka Nanami: All of his data? Just why do you have that kind of information…?
Camus: I thought I told you not to ask any more questions. However, you are not to speak a word about anything you’ve seen tonight. If I find out you’ve told someone, I’ll freeze you right on the spot.
F-Freeze!?
Haruka Nanami: I don’t really get it, but I don’t want that to happen!
Camus: Then, remember: not a word to anybody.
He says this while holding up one finger.
As I nod my head, Camus-senpai holds out his arm, pointing towards the exit.
Camus: If you understand, then it’s best you leave. Don’t get in my way any further.
Haruka Nanami: Okay.
Camus: Then, farewell.
With a flick of his hair, Camus-senpai disappears into the darkness.
Tumblr media
Several days later, I'm suddenly called in by the president.
Shining Saotome: Miss Nanami, you know why I have called you here today, right?
Is it possible that he’s called me in because Kurosaki-senpai still refuses to acknowledge me as his partner?
As I'm panicking, the president’s glasses gleam.
Shining Saotome: I heard that YOU appeared in the promotional video with Mr. Kurosaki the other day.
Haruka Nanami: Oh, so that’s what this is about….
Shining Saotome: Mmmmmmmm…? By that, which do you mean!? Is there another reason why ME would be calling you?!
The president brings his face close to mine without hesitation. The distance is about 15cm. So close, president!
Haruka Nanami: N-No! It’s nothing!!
The president draws back his neck from me and sits down on his chair.
Shining Saotome: For a backstage staff member to freely appear on-screen, thatttt is taboo. Needless to say, you’re only doing half a person’s work.
Usually, it would be a much more seveeeeere punishment but… the situation is what it is. Thanks to all of YOU and your quick thinking, the shoot was a success. The director was also veryyy happy.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, if that’s the case, I’m relieved.
Shining Saotome: Therefore!! As a penalty, this time I will only appoint this job to youuu!
The president handed over a single piece of paper with a flourish.
‘Emergency MISSION: Kitchen Parsley, Part-Time Job’ was written.
Haruka Nanami: Kitchen Parsley… but that’s….
Shining Saotome: This is a favourite restaurant of ME, but the old man and old woman there are struggling due to not enough hands!
That being said, knowing that they don’t have the means to hire a part-time worker, he came to their aid… and made an offer to provide temporary staff.
Shining Saotome: YOU will become a maid and help them outtttt!
The president hands me a large paper bag.
Haruka Nanami: M-Maid…?
Inside the bag is a navy blue dress and a white apron. On the pocket of the apron, “Kitchen Parsley” is embroidered in small letters.
Shining Saotome: This is a request from ME involving a most splendid job. Of course, I will have you continue nooooormal work as well. From now on, sudden appearances are NON NON NON.
Think of it as study, look sharp, and do your bessssst!!
The president waves his hands around in a flutter.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: What a surprise. So the president was also a regular customer at Parsley.
Speaking of which, since those events, I haven’t gone back to Parsley and I still haven’t paid them back. I think I’ll greet them and visit the restaurant on the way home.
As I think about those things, I open the door of the meeting room. There, in front of me, I see Kurosaki-senpai running through the hallway at full speed.
Haruka Nanami: Huh, Kurosaki-senpai? You’re running so quickly….
He seems to be in a big hurry. At the corner, I hear the squeak of his boots, and he comes this way within a few seconds.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … You were here? I’ve been looking for ya! Hey, you okay!?
He asks me while speaking out of breath.
Haruka Nanami: Did something happen?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don’t “something” me! That old man of a president found out what happened, didn’t he? That director said too much.
Haruka Nanami: You were worried and came looking for me?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I-It’s not that I was worried. More like, it would be annoying for me if you say it’s ‘cause of me that you got caught up in this stuff.
Haruka Nanami: I wouldn’t say that. The president also understood our situation and urged us to be more careful. After that, he just gave me some extra work to do.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … Work? Isn’t he using you for free labor or something? Tch, looks like I owe you one again.
He scratches his head roughly.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What kind of work?
Haruka Nanami: Eh!? Um….
If I tell him that I’ll be helping out at Kitchen Parsley, he might get upset at me.
Haruka Nanami: That’s a business matter, so… I’m bound by confidentiality. It’s a secret.
He sighs at me loudly. It seems that Kurosaki-senpai really doesn’t like building up debts towards people.
Haruka Nanami: Um… well instead of that, would you please listen to the unit song?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What, are you trying to strike a deal?
He stares at me in shock.
Haruka Nanami: No! I’ve finished fixing up the parts that you pointed out to me last month, so after you’ve checked it I could ask for your opinions… is what I thought.
After giving it some thought, Kurosaki-senpai pulls out his phone and starts checking something on it.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Well, not like I have a choice… if we make it next week, I’m free on Thursday. I’ll make some time between my recording and briefing sessions.
Haruka Nanami: You’ll listen to it!?
I become so happy, I raises my voice and suddenly, a finger is pointed at me.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It’s my debt! I’m just returning the debt! But I’m not accepting the song if it ain’t rock. Work on it as much as you can, then lemme hear it.
Haruka Nanami: Yes! I’ll do my best!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Good. Oh, and….
He suddenly takes the phone that's in his hands and holds it out in front of me.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Gimme your phone number. It’d be a pain if somethin’ happens and I can’t get a hold of ya.
Haruka Nanami: Oh ah… okay.
I feel like I’m always getting on his nerves.
Tumblr media
Following that, I go to visit the restaurant. At that same time, the old woman is outside taking down the signboards for the lunch menu.
Haruka Nanami: Hello, it’s been a while.
When I call out, the old woman turns in my direction.
Old Woman: Oh my, you’re the young woman from that time! Ah, I’m sorry to say that lunch service has just finished but….
Haruka Nanami: Ah no! I’m not here as a customer today, I’m here for work.
When I rustle around in my bag and pull out the apron, the old woman’s smile widenes.
Old Woman: I heard that a girl would be coming on referral from Saotome-san, but I didn’t know it would be you. What a coincidence, how wonderful!
The old woman welcomes me inside the restaurant.
Upon explaining the situation, I'm put to work immediately.
Old Woman: Oh, that apron suits you. You look like my dear in her younger days. Say, is Ranmaru-chan doing okay?
Haruka Nanami: Yes, he’s doing very well. And you, sir? How is your back after that night?
“It’s getting better,” he answers me. Seeing that the two of them seem to be doing okay, I breathe a sigh of relief.
The main focus of my work is to help the old woman. Things like helping to carry the dishes and cleaning the store. For the time being, I will help until the end of November, which is when the new staff will start. So it will be for about half a month. From this point on, I will attend regular work during the daytime. Evening will be part-time work at Kitchen Parsley, and composition of the unit song will mainly happen at night.
My days continue like that.
Tumblr media
It’s been four days since I started at Kitchen Parsley.
Haruka Nanami: I’m tired….
After closing up the store, we did a big cleanup of the interior. At the same time, the old couple decided to execute their plan to encourage customers to return to the restaurant. They put out an advertisement in the town magazine, developed a new seasonal menu, reinforced their mega-topping menu, prepared discount coupons for the local university and so on….
It's just as Kurosaki-senpai said: if they sit around and do nothing, the restaurant will be in trouble. That’s what I thought.
I feel like sleeping, but I'm curious about the progress of my work from this morning so I turn on my computer. It's then that I find an email sent to me from an unknown address.
Haruka Nanami: Oh, it’s from Camus-senpai.
If I recall, he did say that he would send an email….
Sender: Camus
Title: Greetings
The contents start out as what you might find in a formal business email, but at the end….
I have attached the documents that you requested of me the other day. Please do look over them.
Just as Camus-senpai had written, attached to the email is a folder of data. Cautiously, I open the file. Inside, there are numerous documents relating to Kurosaki-senpai. A list of the programs he’s appeared in, the set list of all of his live shows up until now. There are also several music files supplied.
Haruka Nanami: ‘MUSIC_01’……?
Playing the track, a younger Kurosaki-senpai’s voice begins to flow. It doesn’t have the same sound quality as that of a studio recording. Maybe it’s a demo tape? It must be one from his early days.
It's unrefined, but within the hard rock sound, there's a lively, glistening voice. As if he's happy to be singing and can’t help it… that's the feeling that comes across to me in the song.
Haruka Nanami: So he had so much fun singing like this.
After that are many of his other songs that I’m familiar with. I'm content with just this when….
Haruka Nanami: “A summer holiday memory: looking for rhinoceros beetles and playing by the river”?
It's some text data; a piece of writing based on a summer holiday… or so it seems. In the same style of writing is another piece of text data; a self-composed poem… or so it seems.
Suddenly, a photo of a stuffed teddy bear appears. There's even a comment to go with it: “I used to cherish it as a young child. Its name is Christopher. Nickname: Kū-chan”.
When I come to the folder titled “Elementary School Report Card,” I stop myself.
Haruka Nanami: This is… a little scary.
It really is a collection of data based on Kurosaki-senpai’s past. Furthermore, it’s a considerable amount. Just where did these documents come from? And just who is Camus-senpai, being able to get a hold of these?
As I go to close the folder, a lone file titled “Ranmaru_History” catches my eye.
Haruka Nanami: His personal history….
The urge to find out wins me over, so I open the file.
Ranmaru Kurosaki. Born on 29 September.
Height: 182cm. Weight: 67kg. Blood Type: A.
Eldest son of the Kurosaki household. In those days, the Kurosaki household was a large financial conglomerate that could rival the Hijirikawa household and Jinguji household. Due to economic recession and his father’s poor management, the Kurosaki household fell to ruin. He is currently shouldering a large financial debt.
At that time, a subordinate heading an affiliate company whom his father had deep trust in was found to be the source of the betrayal and the large financial debt.
Haruka Nanami: … Eh?
I can’t believe what I'm reading, and so I keep going.
His father died due to anxiety and overworking himself. He became dependent on his mother’s family.
In order to focus on their band activities, he moved to Tokyo with the other members. About a year later, the band broke up. Immediately following that, he joined a newly formed band, and there is evidence that he signed on with a small-scale entertainment agency. However, he quit when the band broke up.
In either case, the details of the breakup have not been officially announced. But the wide-spread theory is that it involved women, or some relationship troubles within the members.
After this, he continued activities with a small number of members he met around the time of his Tokyo move, but there is no evidence of long-term activities with a fixed group. He was scouted by Shining Saotome and is now affiliated with Shining Agency.
The contents of the file end there.
Haruka Nanami: Hahh….
A sigh escapes me.
The answers to a lot of the questions surrounding Kurosaki-senpai have been brought to light. It’s because these things happened in the past that he is the way he is now.
I recall the things that we talked about concerning the old couples’ restaurant that day. Kurosaki-senpai said that it’s natural for the weak to disappear. He also said we have to do something by our own strength.
He might have remembered his own household. He has experienced all of it firsthand. And surely….
Haruka Nanami: He’s still dealing with it now.
The conversation I overheard in the café last month finally makes sense. He’s shouldering the debt of the ruined Kurosaki household even now.
Haruka Nanami: Things must be hard for him. Surely….
Shaken up by the truth that I now knew, I find myself unable to keep calm that night.
Tumblr media
It’s Thursday, the day Kurosaki-senpai promised he would listen to the unit song. I visit the television station at the appointed time. I only have 30 minutes in between the recording of his television program and his next briefing.
Haruka Nanami: Thank you for taking the time out to….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I don’t have time for wordy talk. Lemme hear the song.
Cutting off my words, he sits himself in the chair with a thud.
Haruka Nanami: Yes!
Nervously, I begin to play the song.
SONG: "QUARTET NIGHT" (S RANK)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I see… you’ve fixed up the flaws from last time and also added some of your own ideas.
Haruka Nanami: T-Thank you.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: That ain’t anything special. It’s about how you improve from here on out. Don’t be satisfied with this much.
His words are harsh, but he properly reviewed it!
SONG: "QUARTET NIGHT" (A-B RANK)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You’re taking the song so seriously, huh….
Upon listening to the song, Kurosaki-senpai mutters those few words.
Haruka Nanami: Wah, thank you very much!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hah… you didn't even realize I was being sarcastic….
In response to my reply, he sighs loudly.
SONG: "QUARTET NIGHT" (C-D RANK)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What is this!? We’re not playin’ around here. Try and list up 100 points that need to be reworked!
Haruka Nanami: I-I’m sorry!
He got upset at me. But it’s true that when I hear the song in front of him, many points that need improvement come to mind.
While replaying the song from the top, I confirm all the points that need reconsideration.
______________________________
Ranmaru Kurosaki: You not being able to debut for a year and a half made me wonder just how low your ability was. But it turns out your songs ain’t too bad….
Haruka Nanami: Senpai…?
At my words, he raises his head suddenly.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: We don’t have much time. I’m gonna start listing points to improve on, so take note. Make sure you fix ‘em up by next month.
Haruka Nanami: Next month? So that means you’ll listen to the song again, right!?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: If you were to leave it as is, I wouldn’t know whether you’ve improved on it or not. Hurry up.
I quickly pull out a notepad and pen from my bag and begin to take notes.
He points out not only the phrasing, but also covers broad points like the composition, arrangement, tempo and key. To have him pay such close attention to the song is… I feel so happy I start to relax.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What’re you smiling about? Stay sharp!
He gets upset at me and pokes my head with a pen.
Tumblr media
After writing down all of the points that I receive from Kurosaki-senpai, I lift my head.
Haruka Nanami: Our 30 minutes are almost up.
Looking up from my watch, it's already time for him to move onto his next meeting. Upon saying that he'll listen to the song again, I move my hand to my computer to replay the track.
Haruka Nanami: Huh…?
The song that begins to play is not the unit song, but the track labeled MUSIC_01. That time when I was in the dorms, I was listening to some tracks and must have accidentally pressed play on one of the files that I copied over. Kurosaki-senpai’s facial expression changes instantly.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: What… this song?
Kurosaki-senpai looks at me intensely.
Select the phrase!
It’s a good song, right? (+15 Love)
A moment passes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: A good song… don’t play dumb with me. I’m asking you how you got a hold of it.
Kurosaki-senpai’s sharp gaze pierces right through me.
Tumblr media
I came upon it by accident (+10 Love)
Ranmaru Kurosaki: This is a demo tape from around the time I first moved to Tokyo. There’s no way it would fall into your hands so easily.
He looks at me with a huff.
Tumblr media
What are you talking about…? (+0 Love)
Haruka Nanami: W-What are you talking about…?
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Quit fooling around. You trying to play innocent with me? It’s still 100 years too early for you. Answer up.
Haruka Nanami: I-I’m sorry!!
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Um, I wanted to find out more about you, and so I looked up a couple of things… and the truth is I ended up finding out about your past.
I think it would be difficult to keep it a secret, so I take a chance and confide in him.
Haruka Nanami: Well… I was informed by someone.
I don’t tell him about Camus-senpai.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: How much do you know?
Haruka Nanami: I know about your family, and the events leading up to your debut….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: …
Haruka Nanami: And I… also know about Christopher….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: W-Why do you know about that!?
Haruka Nanami: Ah, no! Also um, about your father, and the fact that your family is now in debt….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Hahh… Geez, what makes you think you can just barge in and intrude on other people’s territory.
Even if the information fell into my hands by chance, it’s a fact that I was the one who chose to open the file.
Haruka Nanami: … I’m sorry.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: It’s not like I needed to mention it, so that’s why I didn’t say anything. Anyway, I thought it would come up sooner or later.
Haruka Nanami: Um, it must be hard… your father’s debt. You’re the one shouldering it now, right? If I’m able to help in any way… please let me know.
His facial expression changes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don’t talk to me as if you know what’s going on. For starters, what can someone like you do?
The atmosphere suddenly becomes cold.
Haruka Nanami: T-That is….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I’ve told you before! Just feelin’ sorry won’t change anything. ‘Sides, I don’t need your sympathy. It’s annoying.
Haruka Nanami: But you’re shouldering all of it on your own, so of course you would feel overwhelmed. That’s why….
Ranmaru Kurosaki: … My old man didn’t know to be suspicious of people.
The moment a cloud came over the management, he was deceived by his corporation, betrayed by even his own subordinate and died all too soon.
It’s because he trusted in people that he was able to be betrayed. That’s why I refuse to trust people from the start. That’s how I’m gonna live.
His cold, sharp voice echoes in the room.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I’ve listened to the song. Time’s up, this conversation is over.
Haruka Nanami: But….
As I stand unmoving, Kurosaki-senpai looks at me with cold eyes.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: I gave you my attention, and you start to act as if you’re my partner? That’s why I dislike women. Your compassion makes me sick!
Those are his last words before leaving the room.
Tumblr media
Haruka Nanami: Hahh… what should I do now?
Just when he had promised to listen to the song again. My feet plod through the corridor of the studio.
Haruka Nanami: I guess… I made a pretty irresponsible remark.
I reflect a little on my words. It’s true, someone like me can’t do anything about the problems that Kurosaki-senpai is shouldering.
Maybe it doesn’t feel great either being on the receiving end of sympathy. Already, the problems surrounding his past are a delicate one. On top of that… rather than risk betrayal, it’s better not to trust people from the start. That’s what he said.
Aside from the things with his father, there’s also his band and his road to becoming active in the entertainment industry. Many things must have happened….
Haruka Nanami: Even though I felt like I was able to become a little closer, as expected, it's impossible for us to be partners….
Thinking about those things as I walk, I bump into someone coming from the other way.
Camus: Madam, are you… it’s you!
Haruka Nanami: Camus-senpai!? I-I’m sorry….
Camus: Don’t walk through the corridor with your head down.
Haruka Nanami: I-I’ll be careful.
Camus: You’d better! Incidentally, I hope you’re keeping our promise from the other day.
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes, I haven’t said a word to anyone.
Camus: That’s a good attitude. If you don’t want to be frozen, you would do well to keep quiet….
Haruka Nanami: Yes….
Camus: What’s wrong, child? Your expression lacks drive… even now, you look as if you might die.
Haruka Nanami: Um, Kurosaki-senpai got upset at me….
Camus: That disgraced scion. Short-tempered as ever.
Ah, maybe… since Camus-senpai knows everything, maybe I can ask him for advice.
Haruka Nanami: Um, Camus-senpai.
Camus: What do you want, I’m busy. If you have something you want to ask, keep it short.
Haruka Nanami: How can I get along with Kurosaki-senpai?
Camus-senpai suddenly opens his eyes wide.
Camus: What… are you saying….
Maybe I was too straightforward in how I asked him. In an instant, the wrinkles in his forehead grow deeper.
Camus: … And you’re asking me. You’ve got guts, child.
Fixing his gaze on me intensely, he slowly opens his mouth.
Camus: How interesting. Let’s make a deal. If I tell you, what can you offer me in exchange?
Haruka Nanami: A deal?
Camus: Don’t tell me, you thought you could receive advice from me without offering something in return? This conversation may as well be over then.
What should I do? What is something I can offer in exchange for information?
Haruka Nanami: How about a Parsley Parfait….
Camus-senpai suddenly stops in his tracks.
Camus: Parfait… Parsley Parfait… go on, I’m listening.
Haruka Nanami: There’s a restaurant called Kitchen Parsley, and on their parfait menu they have a “Mega Serving.” It’s a secret menu item, and normally it’s only reserved for regular customers. What if I were to offer it to you as a special treat?
When Camus-senpai has his coffee, he puts in a large amount of sugar. He must have quite the sweet tooth.
Camus-senpai nods slowly in agreement.
Camus: Okay. You have a deal, child.
Haruka Nanami: T-Thank you very much.
Camus: Alright, let me tell you. People like Kurosaki, you have to push forward with them.
Haruka Nanami: Push forward?
Camus: Yes, push forward. No mistake about that!!
Haruka Nanami: But it seems like Kurosaki-senpai really doesn’t like getting close to people, not to mention that I heard he doesn’t like women….
Camus: Hah! You fool! Even if he says those things, he wants you to get closer to him. That sort of personality is what we call “tsundere”! Don’t you know? It’s general knowledge!!
Haruka Nanami: Eep! Ah no, I sort of knew about that but….
Camus: My information is never wrong, but it’s up to you whether you choose to trust it or not. In any case, I will definitely come for my reward.
Haruka Nanami: I-I understand.
Hearing my answer, the ends of his mouth turn upwards in satisfaction.
Camus: Good! Well then, I will contact you about the parfait. If you break our promise, I’ll freeze you. Got it?
Turning his body with such grace, his footsteps are light as he leaves.
The next day, I make my way to the restaurant for work.
Haruka Nanami: Push forward… huh.
I’m grateful to Camus-senpai for his advice, but will things really be okay?
Unable to reach a decision, I can’t bring myself to contact Kurosaki-senpai.
Huh…? It seems there’s a large number of customers here tonight. Did something happen…?
As I look around the restaurant, the old woman sees me and smiles cheerfully.
Old Woman: It’s quite crowded in here tonight, isn’t it? It looks like some customers have started to return.
Haruka Nanami: Wah, what great news!
Old Woman: We thought about the winter menu that you proposed to us last time. Would it be okay to talk to you about it after we’ve closed up shop for tonight?
Haruka Nanami: Y-Yes, of course!
The situation at Kitchen Parsley seems to be heading in a good direction. I have to do my best as well!
My aim is to be able to debut. First, I have to do my work properly and bring the unit song to completion. Determined, I send a message to Kurosaki-senpai during my work break. About how I like his songs, and how I appreciate his advice. I apologize for intruding on his past and for saying such irresponsible things.
And of course, I explain to him how I still want us to be partners.
Haruka Nanami: Okay!
Once I have written all of my feelings, I press ‘send.’ After business finishes for that day, we sit and talk about the winter menu while I eat omurice that the old man prepared for me.
When I step outside and prepare to return to the dorms, at the same time….
Haruka Nanami: Ah, it’s a message. From Kurosaki-senpai.
I quickly check my phone.
Sender: Ranmaru Kurosaki
Title: No Title
I said too much last time. Make sure you work on completing the song.
The contents of the message are brief, but….
Haruka Nanami: … Thank goodness. He’s going to listen to the song again.
Overjoyed, I quickly send a reply.
Recipient: Ranmaru Kurosaki
Title: This is Nanami.
I’ve just finished eating at Kitchen Parsley and am about to go back. The old man and old woman are doing very well. I’m going to do my best and finish the unit song. Thank you for your continued guidance.
After sending the message, I look up. The moon is suspended in the night sky, its yellow colour reminding me of omurice. Maybe somewhere, Kurosaki-senpai is also looking up at the same moon….
Haruka Nanami: Eh!? A phone call…!?
Shaking, I quickly pull out my phone again.
Haruka Nanami: Ah, thank you for your hard work!
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Don’t finish eating and act like you have all the time in the world!
He sounds angry from the get go.
Ranmaru Kurosaki: Next time I’m gonna work you so hard you’ll cry. Get ready for it!!
The phone hangs up abruptly.
Haruka Nanami: I-I’m in trouble! I have to work on the unit song right away!
Putting away my phone, I quickly run in the direction of the dorms.

Kicho's Main Story Ch. 12 Part 1 Dramatic
These translations are not intended as a replacement for the game. Please support cybird by buying their stories. SPOILERS under the cut. Expect mistakes.
I really had a hard time translating this, so please forgive me if there were any inaccurate lines.
Tumblr media
Kicho: "..........."
Kicho sighed and turned to me.
Kicho: "Fine. If you say so, then here's what we'll do."
Mai: “Mnn...!”
He kissed me and lightly sucked my lips, making a sweet smacking sound.
Mai: “K-Kicho?”
Kicho: “If I misunderstood, that’s fine. But there are times when all is not as it seems.”
Tumblr media
Kicho: “If we do this, it’ll serve as a warning.”
(Still...)
The sudden kiss almost set my face on fire.
Subordinate 1: “So it’s really...”
Subordinate 2: “I knew there were some awfully intimate moments, but Lady Mai...”
Mai: “Ugh...”
(I never thought he’d do something like this in front of everyone.)
Embarrassed by the gazes of those around me, I hid my face with the tray I was holding.
Kicho: “No need to hide. You have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Mai: “Still...”
Mai: “Next time, please do it somewhere more private, or my heart won’t be able to take it.”
Kicho: “Nobody would see it, though.”
Kicho: “Besides, you still look like that even when it’s just the two of us.”
Mai: “...........”
Kicho: “You’ll have to get used to it, eventually.”
Mai: “Please say those things in private too!”
Tumblr media
He looked at me tenderly, and I could feel my cheeks burning even more.
(I looked like this even when we were alone.)
(He's really been watching me a lot.)
Mitsuhide: "You picked a very jealous partner."
Mai: "Jealous?"
Mitsuhide: "He may look calm, but I'm sure he's not at peace inside."
Mitsuhide: "It looks like you're not wrong in saying that we resemble each other."
Mitsuhide smirked and sipped into the bowl again.
(Where exactly are they similar now?)
Kicho: "He's just saying it with implication. No need to listen to him. Better yet, you rest this time."
Kicho: "The meal gave everyone a break, and that's enough."
Mitsuhide: "That's right. In a battlefield, you never know what might happen at any moment."
Mitsuhide: "Resting your body is never a bad thing."
Mai: "You're right."
Mai: "I don't want to inconvenience you all by not getting enough sleep, so I'll leave now."
Kicho: "Yeah, I'll be there as soon as things settle down."
Mai: "Okay."
I walked out of the tent alone and lightly touched my lips.
(Jealous, huh? I got to know a new side of him again.)
(Even though we're in this situation, I can't help but be happy.)
Tumblr media
Mai: "Mnn..."
I suddenly felt a warmth in my sleep and woke up.
Mai: "Kicho? Wait, it's not him."
(It's a haori. I guess it's a substitute for a blanket.)
Still sleepy, I pulled it closer and smelled the gentle scent of it.
Mai: "I wonder who brought it."
???: "Fufu, it's me."
Mai: "Huh!?"
Tumblr media
I hurriedly sat up and turned around to see Ranmaru there.
Ranmaru: "Sorry. I thought it might be chilly, so I brought it. Sorry for waking you up."
Mai: "No, it's okay. Thank you for taking care of me."
Ranmaru: "You're welcome!"
Ranmaru: "Since you're awake, can I talk to you for a sec?"
Ranmaru: "I really wanted to thank you."
Mai: "Sure, but what is it? I don't remember doing anything worth thanking for."
Ranmaru: "You're right. You had no idea I was listening to you back then."
Ranmaru: "I was actually there when Motonari brought you to Lord Kennyo."
Mai: "Eh?"
Ranmaru: "So, thank you. You helped me make my decision."
Ranmaru: "It may be a slim hope, but I still thought I'd take the gamble."
Ranmaru: "I really wanted him to talk to you."
Mai: "I see. I'm glad I could be of some help."
Ranmaru: "Yes. After all, talking to each other is important."
Ranmaru: "I'm sure there are a lot of things that can't be solved just by talking to each other, but one small word can make a big difference."
Ranmaru: "I want to believe in that."
Ranmaru smiled, his eyes twinkling like stars, and his expression of strength and gentleness somehow reminded me of Kennyo.
Ranmaru: "If I stay here forever, you won't be able to rest, so I'd better get going."
Tumblr media
Ranmaru: "Good night, Lady Mai."
Mai: "Okay, good night."
After saying that, Ranmaru walked out of the tent quietly.
(I know exactly how it feels to want to believe in something because of this turbulent world.)
Tumblr media
Ranmaru: "............."
Ranmaru: "Lord Kennyo..."
Tumblr media
Nobunaga: "I didn't expect you to call me outside the camp."
Nobunaga: "What's the meaning of this, Kicho?"
Kicho: "I need to talk to you. That's all."
Nobunaga: "Don't tell me you're gonna talk about some silly memories now?"
Kicho: "What if I say it's like that?"
Nobunaga: "What?"
Nobunaga's eyebrows twitched, and at the same time, another footstep approached, stomping on the grass.
Kennyo: "What do you want? I thought we'd already worked out a plan."
Kicho: "Now we're all here."
Kennyo: "All here?"
Nobunaga: "This man wants to walk down memory lane with this group."
Kennyo: "This is nonsense. I'm going back."
Kicho: "Wait. I need to tell you this."
Kicho: "If I don't tell you about it, even if this rebellion is successfully contained, it will sow the seeds of another war."
Kicho: "You're still not gonna stop taking your revenge, right?"
Kennyo: "I don't think I have to answer that."
Kicho: "Then, I have something to tell you."
Kicho: "The Ishiyama War lasted for a long time, especially in the last year when the fighting intensified."
Kicho: "What do you think I did to bring the war to an end?"
Tumblr media
Kennyo: "-----!"
Nobunaga: "You bastard."
Tumblr media
Mai: "Hm?"
I was about to close my eyes again when I suddenly heard a lot of noise outside.
(Could it be an enemy attack!?)
I ran out of the tent to find soldiers scurrying around.
Mai: "Um, did something happen?"
Oda soldier 1: "Yes, Lord Nobunaga is not in his tent."
Oda soldier 2: "Hey, bad news! Kicho and Kennyo are gone too."
Oda soldier 1: "What? Don't tell me...!"
Mai: "Please calm down. It's not what you think it is!"
Mai: "Our goal is only to fight together, not against each other."
(If we don't do something, a fight may start because of this misunderstanding.)
(They just promised to join hands, for Pete's sake.)
Oda soldier 1: "But, Lord Nobunaga..."
Tumblr media
Ieyasu: "Do you really believe he'd get kidnapped and beaten up that easily?"
Oda soldier 1: "Lord Ieyasu!"
Ieyasu: "Calm down a little. You're being too nervous."
Ieyasu: "If you're worried, ask Mai to check it out."
Mai: "What?"
Ieyasu: "I saw him go out of the tent just now. That way."
Mai: "Thanks, Ieyasu!"
Mai: "Well, I'm off!"
Tumblr media
(There they are!)
I looked across the plain and saw small figures in the distance.
Mai: "Hmm?"
One is standing firmly, one is kneeling, and the other is extending his arm toward the kneeling person.
(Is that a sword in his hand?)
(Wait, don't tell me...)
As I started to run, the shadows grew even larger, and I began to recognize their owners.
Nobunaga was standing, Kicho was kneeling, and Kennyo was pointing his sword at Kicho.
Then without warning, Kennyo raised his sword and swung it in the air.
Mai: "Wait!"
Tumblr media
Kicho: "Mai!?
Kennyo: "..........."
(Just in time!)
Mai: "Whoa!
Zag!
I heard the sound of the blade cutting through the air as I fell to the ground with a thud.
Mai: "Kicho? Huh?"
I looked and saw that the sword was not on Kicho but on his side of him.
Kennyo: "Girl. You were right."
Kennyo: "I can never forgive this man."
Mai: "Kennyo..."
Kennyo: "But I will let him off the hook just this once."
Kennyo: "If this joint effort fails, more and more people in Japan will get consumed by resentment and stray from the path."
Kennyo: "Only I and those who have already escaped vengeance will become demons."
(Ah...)
Kennyo pulled out his sword, put it back into his staff, and walked away.
(Didn't Kennyo have a grudge against Nobunaga?)
Mai: "Why did he suddenly do that to Kicho...?"
Tumblr media
Nobunaga: "He made me and that monk dance to his tune."
Mai: "Dance to his tune?"
Nobunaga: "I'm sure you've heard from Mitsuhide about the incident with Kennyo."
Mai: "Yes. Your enemies destroyed the Ishiyama Honganji temple."
Nobunaga: "Yes. And it was Kennyo who brought the curtain down."
Nobunaga: "Just before he raised his army, we held negotiations and proposed a truce after confirming that they had no intention of rebelling. However, he refused to accept it and turned his troops toward us."
Mai: "So that happened. But isn't it weird?"
Mai: "Kennyo and the others had no intention to fight, right? Why did they suddenly decide to do so?"
Nobunaga: "Once the war begins, you have no way of knowing why. If you're too patient to ask for an explanation, you'll lose your head."
Nobunaga: "But someone else holds the truth."
Nobunaga: "That guy is the negotiator of the truce."
Mai: "-----!"
Feeling uneasy, I quickly looked at Kicho.
It was hard to think he would choose that kind of means, but I know from my experience as a spy that he was a perfectionist.
Kicho: "I had no intention whatsoever of calling a truce, no matter what orders I received."
Kicho: "To end that war, I changed the letter, cut off the arm of a dead monk, and sent it off."
Kicho: "Then the battle at Ishiyama finally came to an end."
(Oh no.)
My fingertips trembled as he revealed the truth in a matter-of-fact tone.
Kicho's voice was lower than usual, and the night wind on my cheeks felt unusually cold.
Tumblr media
Kicho: "I chose the shortest path to achieve unification and where life is respected. That's all."
Nobunaga: "Fool."
Kicho: “What’s the point of a truce if sooner or later you’d order the destruction of Honganji?”
Kicho: “That truce would just prolong the achievement of our goal.”
Kicho: “That was what I used to think.”
Nobunaga: “............”
Kicho: “Although I was looking toward a world where life is respected, all I could see was an imaginary and convenient future for myself.”
Kicho: “I was valuing the life that doesn’t yet exist and despising the life that does exist.”
Nobunaga: “Is your earlier confession atonement?”
Kicho: “It’s not. Nothing can make up for the life that has already been taken.”
Kicho: “This is a turbulent world. At the end of the day, when you look back, all you can see is a pile of corpses and not just the one at Hongwanji Temple.”
Nobunaga: “Then what’s your atonement?”
Kicho: “To face it. To face the world and the value of all the lives that will build it.”
Kicho: “The cause is still there. But because I value life, I will end this turbulent world.”
Mai: “Kicho...”
Kicho: “Right now, you’re the one in Japan closest to unification.”
(Is that why he turned his revenge on himself?)
Nobunaga: “That’s what people call atonement.”
Nobunaga: “It’s for this reason that we can’t change the course we have once decided to take.”
Nobunaga: “Kicho. You were that kind of man.”
Tumblr media
Kicho: “...........”
Nobunaga: “I didn’t make you my vassal out of mercy.”
Nobunaga: “If I had no use for you, I would’ve treated you as Nohime.”
Nobunaga: "You better fix the mess you made, Kicho."
Kicho: "Understood."
Kicho nodded quietly, and Nobunaga left without saying anything.
I bit my lip tightly on the quiet plain where the wind only rustled the grass.
Kicho: "Mai. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."
Kicho: "I don't care if you despise me, but it doesn't mean the past didn't happen."
Mai: "I won't do that."
Mai: "Whatever your past is, you're still the same person I know."
Mai: "Besides, I'm not in a position to say anything about it."
Without getting up, I reached my arm toward him, my fingertips hitting his sleeve and gripping it tightly.
Mai: "But I was so scared."
Mai: "When I came to check on you, I found a sword pointed at you."
Mai: "I get why you told the truth, but why did you do something so dangerous?"
(I thought he was someone who valued even his own life very much.)
Mai: "When I thought he was going to kill you, my mind went blank."
Kicho: "Sorry I worried you."
Kicho: "I didn't use my weapon to show him I had no intention of resisting."
Mai: "Did you really think that if you did that, Kennyo wouldn't kill anyone?"
Mai: "He hated that incident so much that he even burned down Honnoji Temple and tried to kill Nobunaga."
Kicho: "He's not the kind of guy who would cut me here."
Kicho: "I know what he's like because we once had a long conflict."
Kicho: "He may say he's a vengeful demon, but he can't let go of his emotions or reason."
Kicho: "That's why he chose to fight with us in this case."
Mai: "Is that so?"
Kicho: "But only this time. Next time, I'll settle it myself."
Tumblr media
Mai: "Okay, but you have to promise me this."
Removing my hand from his sleeve, I took his hand and intertwined our fingers.
Mai: "I would hate nothing more than to lose you, so please don't ever do that again."

Sengoku Cat Cafe (Azuchi edition)
Tumblr media
This is a translation of the bonus cat POV (!!!) stories that are from the castle gacha I got the above image from. There are 3 stories:
3rd party (starring Funiko ≽^•⩊•^≼, a cute little black kitten)
Kasugayama (starring Joururi /ᐠﹷ ‸ ﹷ ᐟ\ノ, a classy calico lady)
Azuchi (starring Kabutomaru /ᐠ ˃ ⤙ ˂ マ Ⳋ, a tough and proud tuxedo boy)
Azuchi story
(Lately, there have been more and more customers coming by...) (It looks like they're all coming here to see me.) (Because Granny adopted me, I have to repay her.) (She said, "You'll be a good omen," even after she saw my two-colored coat, and then she took me in.) (So that's why... I have to work hard.)
Ranmaru: Hey, that's the tea shop over there, right?
Keiji: It's really crowded! Just as popular as all the rumors say.
Nobunaga: ...So this is the "cat cafe" she spoke of.)
("Cat cafe?" What does that mean?) (...Never mind that. These guys. They look like warriors.) (...I hate warriors.)
Masamune: Hm? Is it just me, or is that cat over there staring at us awfully hard?
Mitsunari: Is it? I'm happy it's taken such an interest in us.
(When I was a kitten, I was adopted by the son of a warrior. Then his parents almost killed me.) (They said that two-colored cats were bad luck.)
Masamune: ...Hmm?
(...I have to play nice because I'm working. But don't get the wrong idea.)
Masamune: What's with that look on your face? You're looking at us like we're the enemy.
(...I hate this guy the most.)
Mitsunari: Allow me to step in. I'm quite used to playing with cats, since I have Kitty.
Ieyasu: ...This is the definition of a bad idea.
Mitsunari: Here kitty kitty. I have a cat toy for you.
(Does he take me for a fool? ...is what I want to say.) (But I'm working right now. Hold it in. I'll just go play dumb and go "meow meow meow...")
Ieyasu: ! What's with this cat? Does it have no sense of taste?
(Rude. It's called professionalism.)
Ieyasu: ...I think I know how to make you happier than playing with that. Ieyasu: Want to try?
(Interesting. Let's see if you can back up your words.)
Ieyasu: Here's some dried bonito. I bought it from the owner.
(Bribery! ...But I do like bonito. Damn it.)
Ieyasu: Ah, it's eating it. Pretty cute...
Masamune: What, you get special cuddling privileges after luring it in with food, is that right?
Ieyasu: Don't put it like that. Ieyasu: Anyway, I'm just holding it for a little bit. And increasing the shop's sales at the same time.
(Well... he has a point. I guess I have to thank him for buying from the store...) (Thanks.)
Masamune: So, your name's Kabutomaru, is it?
(He heard it from the owner, I guess.)
Masamune: It's a good name. The pattern on your head kinda looks like a helmet, so it fits.
(Is he being sarcastic? He doesn't know about my past or what my fur pattern almost led to.)
Ranmaru: Lord Masamune, surely you know that cats with fur patterns like that are considered bad luck among samurai and warrior families. Ranmaru: That fur pattern looks more like a cracked helmet... Not exactly something that would bring about good luck.
Masamune: And what about it? Masamune: Better to wear your colors with pride rather than hide what you are. Life's better that way. Even this little guy's brave and strong enough to do that.
(...Huh. That's actually... not bad to hear.)
Ranmaru: Um, Lord Masamune? This cat's a boy, isn't he? Don't tell me you're trying to charm him too?
Masamune: What's cooler than a man that even other men can fall for?
(He has a point.)
Ranmaru: Then let me have a turn too!
(Hey, what are you-- ah...)
Ranmaru: Cats really like it when you scratch their chins like this~
(It does feel really good... This kid knows what he's talking about.)
Ranmaru: Looks like he's not as wary as he was before. That's good.
Kabutomaru: Meow.
(...I mean, like, if you're going to spoil me this much...) (I can't say you're bad people, even if you are warriors...)
Mitsuhide: Then shall I have a try? Mitsuhide: Come here, Kabutomaru.
(Wh-what's with this guy? ...He's weird. Dangerous.)
Hideyoshi: Aaaand he's back to being on guard.
Mitsuhide: Don't back away like that. You'll hurt my feelings.
(With that smile on your face? Yeah right.)
Mitsuhide: No need to wave your tail like that. Let me just...
(Why's he getting closer?) (...Huh? This smell...)
Kabutomaru: Meow!!!!
Hideyoshi: What's wrong!? Kabutomaru!?
Mitsuhide: He seems to be fond of catnip*. Mitsuhide: I heard that it sends cats into a state of euphoria, but I didn't think it'd be quite this effective. * it's not catnip, but silver vine, which basically does the same thing
(You villain...! You- you turned my body against me!)
Hideyoshi: Always with the trickery, you. Are you okay, Kabutomaru? Hideyoshi: Take a minute to recover. Do you mind if I pick you up?
(Nnn... I don't love it, but this guy's arms are gentle... it's not bad...)
Hideyoshi: There, there. There's a good boy.
(Don't treat me like a kitten. I'm a big cat now.) (But it's warm like this... It feels nice. I guess, maybe... a few more minutes...)
Keiji: Look at you getting all cozy. Cats don't normally get so close to people.
(...Yeah, that's right. I feel like I'm selling out after just a little bit a pampering.) (Selling out to warriors, of all people.) (I guess it's because I know they won't do anything (too) bad to me, even if they are warriors...)
Keiji: You're a pretty special cat, aren't ya?
(Ack! Gentler! Pet me gentler!)
Keiji: Don't sulk like that. Here, how's this instead? You like this way of petting better?
(...This guy... Even though he's a human, he's got eyes like a cat. I kinda feel like we're similar. Sort of.)
Kabutomaru: Meow.
Keiji: Aw, look at you licking my fingers. Nice to meet you, Kabutomaru. Do I pass your standards?
(...He's putting on a smile, isn't he?)
Kabutomaru: ...
Keiji: ... Keiji: Ah... Yeah. I get the feeling that we're pretty similar, you and I.
(It looks that way. Well, either way, cheer up a little.)
Kabutomaru: Meow~
Hideyoshi: He's all nuzzled up against you. Looks like he likes you too.
Keiji: ...Guess so, heh.
Nobunaga: Oi, cat. Nobunaga: You are Kabutomaru, are you not?
(Ugh, what's with this pressure...? Is this guy the boss?)
Nobunaga: Oh? To look at me with such eyes, you must have quite the impudent spirit.
(What, don't like how I'm looking at you? What's next? Going to look down on me, trample me?) (...Even though they seemed like good people, in the end, they're just warriors after all.)
Ieyasu: He really seems to hate you, Nobunaga.
Nobunaga: It matters not. This one has a keen eye, after all. Nobunaga: Kabutomaru. How would you like to rule the world at my side?
Kabutomaru: ...Meow?
(Don't tell me he's trying to headhunt me!?)
Nobunaga: You showed no fear of me. I quite like that.
(As much as he sounds all commanding, he's petting me really gently...)
Nobunaga: If you come with me, you shall live your life in utmost luxury. You have my word.
(Nobody's looked me eye-to-eye and acknowledged me like this before.) (I... I feel kinda happy.)
Kabutomaru: ....Meow.
(...But I still owe Granny too much. Sorry.)
Nobunaga: I see. So that is your answer.
(Nobu... Nobu-what? What was his name?) (Oh, that's right. Nobu-tan. Thank you, Nobu-tan.)
Masamune: Looks like you got rejected.
Nobunaga: No matter. I can simply come to see him again.
(...Maybe warriors can be pretty cool.)

Teen!MC who loves the Star Wars trilogy, the Warlords react. I imagine that Sasuke would be familiar with the films, and would do mock battles with MC while using quarterstaffs as light sabers.
Hello! Thank you, I love the idea.
Teen!MC shows them the Star Wars trilogy.
Oda forces.
Nobunaga Oda.
You were clearly excited about this, which made Nobunaga curious about what this ‘Star Wars’ thing was about. He was definitely intrigued by the concept of a battle in the stars.
Imagine his awe at discovering what space is and seeing the battle scenes. Which would make Nobunaga want to own a spaceship.
Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
Hideyoshi was genuinely confused as to the chronological order of the movies, which led to Sasuke having to explain to him that this way was easier to understand the story.
Just imagine Hideyoshi thinking that, in this universe, Nobunaga would the the Anakin. He truly admires his lord. Though he thinks that the violence in these movies is too much for you, you are too young to be watching it.
Ieyasu Tokugawa.
Ieyasu though that there were way too many movies and episodes to Star Wars, though the different species from different planets did fascinate him.
He doesn’t like the flashing lights though. You might tease him about being an old man for it, which will make Ieyasu glare at you.
Masamune Date.
Masamune was excited when he saw the light sabers, liking how they could melt and burn anything. He even considered how cool it would be to use one during battle.
Needless to say that he would join MC and Sasuke during their pretend battle with light saber toys. Being his little sister will be no excuse for him to take it easy on you.
Mitsuhide Akechi.
Mitsuhide will enjoy the series, though there is a lot of information to take in, all of which Mitsuhide found intriguing.
Both you and Sasuke agree that, if Mitsuhide existed in the Star Wars universe, he would mix between the forces of good and evil. Of course, his interests would lie with the forces of good.
Mitsunari Ishida.
Mitsunari was glued to the screen, finding everything fascinating. You could say that he was quickly becoming a fan of it. What most fascinated him was the vast amount of different creatures.
Needless to say that he would be asking questions every now and then since some concepts were unknown to them. It was funny to you since Mitsunari really seemed like an old man.
Ranmaru Mori.
Ranmaru would sometimes get spooked by the movies, since sometimes it would get dark. But overall he was fascinated by the vast world in it.
He wouldn’t like to be in a spaceship or have light sabers like the other warlords, though. Those things frightened him. He will also be concerned as to why someone so young like you watched this movie series.
Keiji.
Keiji is part of the warlords that would get pretty excited about story of the movies, it had a rich story and world building, something he never seen before.
He would, just like Masamune, pretend to play with the others with fake light sabers. Keiji will tease you about being too much of a brat to watch this trilogy.
Uesugi-Takeda alliance.
Kenshin Uesugi.
Kenshin is a bit of a… dangerous man to show this movie trilogy. If he can make a whole mafia group obey him upon arriving to the modern era, just imagine how dangerous he would be inside the Star Wars universe? Of course, you are just showing him the movie, but Kenshin would definitely get excited about light sabers and such.
You and Sasuke get a bit scared of Kenshin’s grin when a fight scene appears.
Shingen Takeda.
Shingen will certainly find the story and universe unique and fascinating, being drawn into the movies. He was constantly cheering for the forces of good to prevail, while comparing the forces of evil with Nobunaga.
He genuinely wondered if he could build some of the fascinating structures seen in the movies, the answer was no. Every time a violent scene appears, shingen will put his hand over your eyes. He can’t let his young sister to see such horrific scenes.
Yukimura Sanada.
Yukimura is certain to like the movie trilogy. At first, everything confused him, but he grew to enjoy it a lot. The fight scenes made him excited as they looked cool, Sasuke was definitely very happy that his bestie shared interests with him. You will be happy that your big brother also likes something you enjoy.
Yoshimoto Imagawa.
Yoshimoto wasn’t much of a fan, though he will find the different outfits interesting. If it were up to him, he could make them more beautiful. And he had to admit, the different sceneries from different planets captivated him.
Another thing he liked was the possibility of traveling while being surrounded by stars. He might use you as a model, he just loves spoiling his young sister with new outfits.
Sasuke.
It is pretty obvious that Sasuke has already seen and likes Star Wars, but he will watch it all over again if it means he can show all the warlords. You both organized it so that they could watch it.
Kanetsugu.
It will take some convincing to get Kanetsugu to watch Star Wars with you, like doing the puppy eyes. Forced, Kanetsugu will watch the movies with you, and will get very intrigued by it.
Lone forces.
Kennyo.
You insisted that Kennyo would watch it with you, to which he was apprehensive. But he couldn’t say no to his little sister, so he eventually agrees. Kennyo finds it all overwhelming but fascinating. Specially the different life forms that live in each planet.
You might end up comparing him with Yoda, which will make Kennyo confused as he does not speak with sentences out of order.
Kichou.
By chance, Kichou already knew about the movie series, but he only knew so much. Which is why you introduced the whole trilogy for him to see. He won’t be too interested in it, but will watch the whole thing to make his little sister happy.
Motonari Mouri.
Motonari won’t want to watch it at first, but then will get excited to watch everything about it. He definitely liked many concepts that Star Wars had, specially the possibility of traveling not just to different countries but planets.
You joke that he would definitely use the red light saber, to which he calls you a brat.

"I know … he makes Sara happy." The words are uttered under a shaky tone where uneven breaths carry it, sweat brimming at a temple hidden by his mop of hair. "That's all I need to know for this to work, right? If I can just figure out a way to … put the Joe AI in my body instead, Sara wouldn't have to stress so much about his death. It wouldn't be the same, but wouldn't she rather have him?"
