i do not enjoy harry potter anymore and even when i did, snape was not a character i ever liked, but for some reason my ‘for you’ page is just full of dedicated snape stan accounts and i hate it
#anti jk rowling#anti severus snape#anti harry potter#like okay i remain a strong proponent of ‘you are allowed to like whatever fiction you like’#but it’s important to consider whether the author—when presenting certain subjects—critically evaluates their own opinion on those subjects#like how stephanie meyer in twilight thinks it’s funny to have all the vampires make dog jokes at jacob because he’s a werewolf#but he’s native so it comes off as REALLY racist#(and also in the case of jkr specifically she’s using her money from hp to fund terf shit LET HP DIE)#and the dozen-ish snape takes i’ve seen seem to demonstrate these accounts are either not interested in or cannot critically evaluate snape#a character written by a woman to be a redeemable asshole who take out a petty schoolyard resentment against a kid’s dad ON THE KID#the orphaned abused kid i might add—when the redeemable man in question is implied to have come from an abusive home himself#i just saw one like ‘oh if it’s okay to call him ‘snivellus’ then it must be okay to call luna ‘loony’ right?#sorry when was luna joining a hate group against muggles and muggle-borns#i don’t deny james and co bullied snape quite viciously but he gave back just as much and also never grew out of that pettiness#not to mention he only turned from voldemort because he was specifically going to kill lily#all other muggleborns dying was apparently just fine by him#i still don’t get the love of this character not because it’s a bad thing to like villainous characters#but it’s ALWAYS the justification of his actions—as if he was in the right to bully harry (an orphaned abused child) because of harry’s dad#there’s no criticism consideration of the author’s biases in there#should you not be a bit concerned that she thinks calling your best friend a slur ‘ONE TIME’ is something that should be just forgotten#aj abstractions

If Only I Had Stayed In The Shadows - Chapter Ten
James Potter x OC
Words: 4,8k
Prologue  Chapter One   Chapter Two  Chapter Three  Chapter Four  Chapter Five  Chapter Six  Chapter Seven  Chapter Eight  Chapter Nine
The break passed and life in Hogwarts continued in blissful peace for the next few months. At least for us students. Outside of the walls and grounds of Hogwarts, the situation was getting darker and darker each day. People went missing or were declared as dead, causing chills down our spines whenever the list grew longer with each newspaper.
I sighed, folding a piece of parchment that contained a letter from my parents about their well being. They were alright but had to take a lot of extra hours, giving how more and more muggleborn or halfblood wizards and witches were registered every day and night with the worst injuries at their hospital. Some - if not many - did not make it by the end of the next dawn. A hand snatched the letter from my hand and I glanced over at the messy-haired boy next to me as he unfolded it again. "Ever heard of privacy?" I asked and his eyes widenend in mock-astonishment, "No, what's that?"
His good mood evaporated slightly though after he skimmed the letter and an usually solemn expression graced his features instead. "Things are really getting worse everyday, aren't they?" he asked quietly, catching Sirius' attention from his other side.
"What's getting worse everyday?" he questioned, joining our conversation. Remus, Peter, Lily and Marlene looked up from their sheets as well. We were gathered together in the Common Room, sitting at one table to 'study'. Some would think it odd since we never usually mingled together, especially with Lily's open hatred towards James and everything the Marauders stood for. But ever since he and I got together, everyone consequently spent more time together as a group, surprisingly getting along...most of the time.
"A lot of people are dying or getting injured," James replied, handing me back my letter.
"Mom says, the hospital is being run down. They won't be able to carry so many patients for long," I added, feeling uneasy, "Apparently the healthcare system is close to collapsing."
"That's bad," Marlene commented, worry creasing her forehead, "What's going to happen if this goes on?" Everyone shrugged, glancing at each other helplessly as no one had an answer.
"The Ministry will figure it out eventually," Remus tried to reassure us all, straightening up in optimism.
"Right, they always do," Lily agreed, causing Sirius to scoff quietly. She gave him a challenging look, raising her eyebrow. "You've got anything to say, Black?"
"There is a lot I could say that would certainly not please you, Evans," Sirius quipped.
"Anyways," James cut in before a bicker session could begin between them, "We shouldn't turn our hair grey because of this. We are young! And still have more than a year left in the safest place in the country."
I nodded in agreement, leaning into him as he threw his arm around me. Lily silently flickered her deep green eyes between us.
"But what happens after we graduate?" Peter spoke up with an almost quivering voice as he still looked worried.
"Let our future selfs worry about that," Sirius dismissed.
"We should still have a plan though," Lily pointed out and I allowed a frown on my face after she finally ripped her intense gaze off. She had been doing that a lot lately, staring at our interactions longer than deemed normal. What was her issue? "You know, the teachers are planning to start sessions for career advice with each of us. Having no plan probably won't look good."
"Oh, I already know what I'm going to do," Sirius shot back immediately, smirking confidently, "Auror sounds pretty enticing, especially during this time, doesn't it?"
"Same," James said and I resisted the urge to raise my eyebrows at his confidence, "That or Quidditch," he added as an afterthought.
"I don't know," Marlene mused, "Auror does have a nice ring to it but I always thought I would do something with Potions...," Stunned silence and a collective jaw drop followed. The brown-haired beauty burst out in laughter at our disbelieved looks, shaking her head, "Just joking. You should see your faces."
I rolled my eyes at her. "You really got us there for a second, Marls," Remus chuckled.
The evening passed and even though I would have liked to say we did a lot of studying...we didn't. "Well, Remus and I gotta go," Lily sighed, getting up, "We're patrolling tonight."
"Uh, sounds fun," Marlene commented sarcastically and the red head shot her a look.
"Right, on it!" Remus got up as well, readying himself, "Boys, don't pull any pranks tonight. It will make me look bad."
"But Moony, now is the best time! With you on patrol, we won't get any punishment!" Sirius stated indignantly.
"That's exactly what I mean with making me look bad," Remus remarked with a sigh, "I'm a prefect, mate. Help me out by not doing anything."
The black-haired boy seemed to contemplate his options before giving in with a pout, "Fine, but you owe me."
"Good boy," Remus said, patting his head like a dog, "I'll see you guys later...ladies, have a good night."
"Night, Remus!"
"So, if no pranks are allowed...how about we get a midnight snack from the kitchen and head to the Astronomy Tower?" James suggested and I gave him an offended look even though my heart fluttered at his romantic suggestion. "I am second to your pranks? Really?"
"Of course you are!" Sirius snickered.
"Of course you are not!" James contradicted and it was his best mate's turn to give him an affronted look. "Really, Prongs? You're giving me up for a lass so easily?"
"...Pretty much, yes," James shrugged, causing me to snort.
Sirius pouted. "Can I at least tag along?"
"Me too?" Peter added himself.
"Sorry mates, this time is only for me and my love," James declined, pulling me closer as we got up and kissing my temple. I blushed slightly at his open affection. Ever since New Year's Eve we had become closer and practically glued to each other. I couldn't believe my luck at this point, wondering how I had managed to capture the attention of this charismatic and sweet boy when I was a rather boring girl with a boring life. Yet, here we were, officially together for about four months in and going strong.
After grabbing a few snacks from the kitchen, we headed up to the highest tower in the school. I sat down at the ledge, leaning against the barrier with my arms and resting my chin on them as I breathed in the fresh night air. James settled down next to me, quietly handing me a sandwich I bit into immediately whilst we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and presence of the other. The view was magnificent, moonlight reflecting from the slight waves of the black sea and I imagined the Giant Squid breaking the surface with its tentacles from time to time.
"What are you thinking about?" James eventually asked softly and I glanced over. His cheek rested on his crossed arms, eyes locked on my face. I blushed slightly at his gaze, looking back out at the landscape. A tinge of happiness rose in me as I thought how life was for me at the moment. Despite my parents throwing fits because of my career choices, I had a great boyfriend, who supported me in everything. And as cliché as it sounded, he made me feel safe during the dangerous times of war raging just outside of the Hogwarts grounds. Is that what love makes you feel-? My thoughts came to a screeching halt at the l-word before it started racing uncontrollably fast. Love? Did I love him?
"Cec?" James poked my arm, breaking me out of my reverie and I twitched slightly in surprise, "Are you spacing out on me?"
"N-no, I was just...," my eyes flickered around for an escape, "..daydreaming," I ended lamely, pressing my mouth against my underarm.
"Okay?" James raised an eyebrow, clearly not believing me, "Are you cold? You are twitching like a weirdo."
"Jeez, thanks," I said sarcastically, though immediately blushed when he scooted closer, throwing an arm around me. "It's alright, weirdo," he said with a grin, "I'll be your knight in shining amor once again and keep you warm."
"And once again, I gotta remind you of a little magic trick called Heating Charm," I replied with the same grin, warmth spreading through me at his cute gesture. James was full of cute gestures, it was a miracle no one knew that. Maybe, because he had never been able to show this side of him before. I bit my lip, shyly acknowledging the increase of my heartbeat at his proximity, the realisation of my feelings suddenly becoming clear.
I had fallen for that idiot.
Days had passed and I was mulling over how to tell James about my feelings. Should I tell him at all? Should I wait for him to say it first? Did he feel the same anyway?
There was only one person to ask for love advice. Someone, who had helped me before.
"Marlene, should I tell him?" I asked.
"Absolutely not," the beautiful Gryffindor answered immediately with her eyes wide.
"Why not?"
"The boy has to say it first. That's the rule."
I made a face. "Is that really? Or are you just making it up?"
Marlene sighed, grabbing my shoulders. "Dearest Cec. We girls easily fall in love. And we figure it out quite easily, too. A boy usually needs a while longer and if the girl were to approach him with her feelings, he would immediately feel swamped and make a beeline for the next exit. Until he is not sure of his own feelings, I wouldn't tell him."
I frowned slightly, "That's a bit biased, don't you think? I'm sure not all boys would try to run away."
"Oh believe me, they will," Marlene stated almost darkly. Something told me, she was talking from experience but I was not enough of a Gryffindor to dig deeper. She noticed my gaze though and immediately let go of my shoulders, leaning back in nonchalance. "I mean, you can risk it and tell him or you can wait. Personally, I believe waiting is the best. It doesn't hurt now, does it?"
I pondered over her words whilst wandering the halls in search of the one boy, who kept running through my mind. Sure, it wouldn't hurt to wait for him to say it first, but the question was how long would he need to realise it? Could I perhaps quicken it up by just telling him first, making him notice his own feelings faster? Or would it just pressure him to say it, too even if he doesn't mean it? That thought filled me with horror and I swiftly decided to keep my mouth shut.
Though, when I rounded the corner to the courtyard and saw him standing in all his bespectacled, nut brown messy haired glory I couldn't help but suddenly hear my heartbeat loud and clearly, drumming in my ears in a pace it would usually go after a sprint or a run up of blasted staircases. I couldn't help but stop short in my movements to savour the sight of his smile for a second, the same smile he would direct at his mates and me, all the people he loved (perhaps he did actually love me, too), his teeth shining in the sunlight that would occasionally peak through between the many clouds and I decided to tell him my feelings then and there, head slightly dizzy from the once again quick change of mind. But before I took a step forward, my eyes flickered away from him at the reflection of the sun on shiny red hair, rippled in perfect waves and slightly blinding. And then they flickered towards a pair of glistening, emerald green eyes that were smiling at the exact same boy I wanted to talk and spill my feelings to.
I swiftly stepped back in the shadows, wincing at my own behaviour. Why was I spying on them? They were doing nothing but talking, laughing at each other...something I had never seen Lily do with James before. Ever. Wishing I could hear what they were saying I looked back at James, feeling my chest warm at the sight of his smile but almost burn at the realisation who it was directed to. All the people he loved...
'No,' I shook my head, 'We've talked about this before we got together. He made it clear that he lost interest in her...after pining after her for years.' She clearly never reciprocated his feelings, so their not-lovestory was over when he moved on. But what if she did reciprocate his feelings? I thought back on all the times I caught her staring at us. Could it be that she had been feeling something for him all along and was just hiding it? Or didn't realise it until now?
Marlene's lessons on keeping a boy interested crossed my mind. Would trying hard to get work on girls, too? After all, James had been chasing her for years and suddenly stopped paying attention to her. He was even in a relationship. But would that spark an interest in Lily? Certainly not. She wasn't the type to chase after someone, who was taken, not to mention one, who had been annoying her for years. No, she was just befriending him now that he wasn't pining after her, seeing as they were in the same friendship circles. We were all spending more time together, the girls and the Marauders. And as Marlene, Alice and I were starting to get along more with the boys, so was Lily. It was bound to happen that we all grew closer. If anything, it was a good thing.
I relaxed a bit at that conclusion, smiling slightly as they laughed quite loudly at something James said. Back then, when I was obsessing more over other people's relationships (since I had none of my own), I always thought they would get along really well if James hadn't been chasing her in his boisterous and overly-done way. Him, with his wild and goofy nature that would dare her to many adventures, and her, who would be able to tame him and not take it too far, keeping him on the ground.
+A perfect friendship.
A perfect relationship.
My smile faded and I turned around. Despite myself, I didn't dare to reveal my feelings to the boy on that day.
Neither did I on the following days that turned to weeks until we reached the end of the spring and the world slowly turned warmer in the first days of the summer with a turn from April to May. Everything was as normal as it could get when you were friends with the Marauders. Classes were the same, Quidditch practices were the same, we had won the last game against Ravenclaw and were now on first place to win the Cup as long as Slytherin lost against Hufflepuff (which was quite unlikely, but nobody tell James). The Marauders pulled their usual pranks, although they were more tamed than in their previous years and less directed at us girls. James and I were still going to strong...yet none of us had said the l-word even though we had been together for almost eight months by now. And although Marlene kept reassuring me that it was normal for boys to take longer in their admittance for love, all the romantic books that I'd read throughout my teenage years stated otherwise. We should have long since reached that stage to proclaim our love for each other, shouldn't we? Hell, James proclaimed his love for Lily everyday for years ever since he saw her and they weren't even together. It shouldn't be hard for him to realise whether he loved me or not.
This fueled my insecurities more each day that passed without a confession, which caused me to keep my mouth shut about my own feelings, too. Instead I found myself frequently catching James and Lily alone, deep in conversation, whenever I was looking for him after he went missing on all of us. Either at the library, where I had never seen him go as often as now and on his own will, too, or outside at the courtyard or on the Hogwarts grounds with her sitting in the shade of a tree and him dangling from a branch above her, grinning down at her as she laughed whenever his glasses slipped askew from his upside down position. It was practically a picture ripped from the pages of a romance novel. And the burning feeling in my chest would continue.
"Lily and James are getting along pretty well, aren't they?" I commented off-handedly one day. Marlene, Alice and I were sat in the library together, studying for the upcoming exams with Lily having gone to fetch more books. Alice tensed up slightly, her eyes flashing from me to her book whilst Marlene looked up, shrugging nonchalantly. "Guess so. Now that he is not annoying her anymore."
"Right. Good thing," I said, nodding along to her words. Needless to say it was relieving to see that she had the same thoughts as me about this. An expert like her would have caught on if there was something more to their sudden closeness, right? Nonetheless I looked over at Alice, who suddenly seemed very busy with scribbling something down on her parchment. Alice, who out of the three of us was the closest to Lily and who would likely know exactly what was going on. "What do you think, Alice?" I asked her bluntly as she didn't seem to want to join the conversation on her own.
Startled, she looked up and I gave her a tight-lipped smile as I awaited her answer. "Eh, yes. They seem to get along better than before. At least, Lily is not yelling her head off anymore every time she sees him," she replied, laughing albeit nervously. Just then, the aforementioned girl headed back towards our table with four books stacked in her arms. I gnawed on my lip, wondering how to ease the constriction in my chest that had been my constant companion for a while now with the ongoing uncertainty.
"Hey Lily, are you dating someone?" I asked her as she sat down. Her books promptly landed on the table with a bang as she had slackened her grip on them in surprise. I cringed slightly at the glare thrown at us from Madam Pince and Lily mouthed a silent 'sorry' at her.
"What? Why do you ask?" she coughed slightly, glancing at the other girls, who had looked up in interest now.
I shrugged. "Just wondering. You are pretty and someone ought to have to courage to ask you out, now that James is not holding anyone back from it," I laughed slightly at the end, hoping to dissolve the suddenly awkward atmosphere that appeared at my statement.
"She's right, Lils," Marlene thankfully butted in, blissfully unaware, "You are the only single among us and you've been for a while. It's time to get some!" Lily went beet red, reaching over to smack her on the arm as we all snickered slightly. "Jesus, Marlene. That's so inappropiate!"
"What? It's true! You are the only single among us. And someone is bound to have asked you out lately! Right?" the brown-haired beauty pressed on and I had never been more grateful for her noisiness than now.
Lily grumbled under her breath, hesitating slightly before she gave in, "Maybe. Some Ravenclaw perhaps." Our eyes widened and Marlene squealed as quietly as she could. "I'm not interested though!" she quickly added at our excited looks, deflating my relief, "Now drop it. We are here to study." And with that, she successfully ended the topic.
Later at night I met up with James at the Astronomy Tower, our usual spot when we wanted to hang out after curfew. "Hey, how was your day?" he greeted me warmly as I sat down next to him at the edge of the tower, resting my arms against the railing. A cool breezed rushed throughout the tower and James quickly scooted closer to wrap his arms around me before I even started to shiver and I smiled at his sweet gesture.
"Quite well. Studied a lot. And you?"
"Quite well. Pranked a lot," he mimicked, grinning when I laughed slightly. "Which poor soul did you harrass this time?" I asked, resting the side of my head against my arms as I listened attentively to him recounting each prank with great detail, his arm leaving me once in a while to emphasize something but never failing to come back around me. "Sounds like you had a lot of fun today...," I remarked when he ended and he nodded with a beaming grin, "...and when did you study?" His beam deflated into a pout, causing my shoulders to shake in silent laughter.
"I don't need to study," he grumbled nudging me. "Sure, you don't." I nudged him back, slipping to the side and almost under the railing when he nudged me slightly harder. He quickly grabbed me by the arm and pulled me back towards him. "Sorry about that," he apologised embarrassed and I giggled slightly, resting against him. "Don't worry, I don't mind this at all," I replied, snuggling my head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me tightly towards him. "Mhmm, I'm sure you don't," he chuckled into my hair, his lips grazing slightly against my earlobe and causing me to shiver. I could feel his smile as he deliberatly brushed against my ear again and I squirmed slightly, burying my red face in his chest. "Why so shy all of a sudden?" he teased and I stifled a gasp as he playfully nibbed at my ear. "I'm not shy," I protested, voice muffled. "Is that so?" He tried to back away but I tightened my arms around his waist, firmly keeping my face planted against his chest. "Yes!"
He laughed lightly, promptly dropping on his back and pulling me on top of him. I adjusted my position, placing a leg on each side of his hips and resting my ear on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. "I could stay like this for a long while," James commented with a blissful sigh as he wrapped his robes around me for warmth. I raised my head to shoot him a smile and he grinned back at me softly. Craning my neck I placed a kiss against his jaw, unable to resist the urge. He quickly pulled me further up, rising up slightly to capture my mouth with his and my eyes fluttered shut as he held the back of my head, his fingers grasping my hair. I fisted his shirt, a swarm of butterflies causing a wreckage in my stomach as he molded his lips against mine, his tongue peeking out to run across my lower lip when a sudden noise erupted somewhere close.
I pulled away quickly. "Did you hear that?" I asked breathlessly as I looked up.
"Hear you moan for me?" James tugged me back down by the neck. "Not yet," he whispered huskily against my mouth. My eyes widened in surprise, heart pounding against my ribcage at his words. He nipped at my lip with his teeth playfully before fully placing his lips against mine again until I almost forgot what had interrupted us in the first place. But the fear of getting caught outside of curfew broke me out of my daze once more. "Seriously, James," I whispered breathlessly, looking up to squint at the doorway, "I think someone's down there. They might come up." James groaned, tugging at my shirt. "No ones down there."
"And what was that noise? What if we get caught?" I asked, sitting up.
"Probably gonna get detenti- uff," he hissed and I glanced down at him to see him holding his breath. "What's wrong...?" I questioned when I realised I had sat up directly on his groin.
Oh.
"Oh, Cec," he breathed out as his eyes darkened, "You really shouldn't have done that." He shot up, crashing his lips against mine before I could get another word out, his hand coming up to entangle in my hair as his other arm wound tightly around my waist, pulling me flush against him. A small moan escaped me when his sudden movement caused his hips to grind against mine as I sat securely between his torso and his slightly raised knees. "There is my moan," he smirked against my lips and I could have sworn my heart stopped at this devilish sight. Breathing out shakily, I took his face between my hands, seeing his eyes soften slightly before I tilted my head to deepen the kiss, unable to restrain myself in any way. He reciprocated eagerly, his hand fisting in my hair as our tongues clashed together. I moved slightly against him, a flash of excitement coursing through me when I heard his breath hitch. "Fuck, Cec," he groaned in my mouth and my eyes almost rolled back in pleasure at the mere sound. He reached down to grasp my thigh tightly, pulling me closer and I gasped against his mouth. His thumb stroke softly over my skin, smiling at the goosebumps erupting everywhere. He let his hand travel up until he reached the end of my skirt. "Can I?" he asked without detaching his lips once and I nodded, resisting the urge to moan when he dug his fingers in the exposed flesh under my skirt. "James," I breathed out as I broke away for air, feeling him shiver. His mouth trailed down to my neck, nibbling on it as I tangled my hand in his hair, his own letting go of my waist and reaching up to undo the buttons of my shirt-
"James and Cec sitting in a tree," an all to familiar voice reached our ears and my eyes snapped open. "K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" James halted his movements, burying his face in my neck with a groan.
"First comes love!" Sirius sang joyfully as he appeared by the doorway, a piece of parchment in one hand and his wind lit up at the tip in the other. "Then comes marr-holy shit!" His eyes widened slightly at our disheveled figures but his smirk came back as soon as it had disappeared. "My my, first come the babies it seems with you two!"
"Fucking hell, Sirius!" James cursed, turning around to glare at his best mate.
"Hi Prongs!" Sirius greeted innocently, waving his parchment.
"Worst timing ever, mate!" I buried my face in my hand in embarrassment, wondering if our compromising position would go unnoticed if I pretended that it wasn't compromising.
"Sorry Prongsie, your babymaking has to wait. We've got a little something going on tonight," Sirius said, not sounding sorry at all as he nodded outside. I peeked a glance between my fingers to see James' eyes widen under his slightly askew glasses. Glancing over my shoulder I caught sight of the full moon, partially obscured by a few clouds.
"Right, give us a minute please," James requested and Sirius disappeared down the stairs again. His hazel eyes appeared startingly lighter under the shine of the full moon as he grasped my hips softly with both hands. "I've got to go," he said quietly and the atmosphere seemed suddenly serene in contrast to a minute ago.
"That's okay," I replied as quietly, adjusting his glasses once again and he smiled that sweet smile, that one damn sweet smile only reserved for his loved ones and my mouth opened before I could stop myself, "James, I l-"
"Prongs! Hurry up already!" Sirius cut me off from down the stairs. James huffed, rolling his eyes at his mate.
"I'm sorry. I really gotta go," he said and I nodded quickly, scrambling to get up and off him. He adjusted his clothes before stepping closer, giving me a sweet kiss. "Good night, love," he said softly as he fastened up the buttons he had undone on my shirt, "I will see you tomorrow?"
"Definitely. Good night."
Unbeknownst to him, to Sirius and to me, Sirius had just saved me from committing the biggest mistake tonight. Twice.

voldy minime and the gryffindor golden boy
A gryffindor!jay and slytherin!reader fic
word count: 2450 words
genre: fantasy
Your teachers and probably anyone who looks at you longer than a second think that you are the next Voldemort.
Well, you can’t really blame them because you have a lot of similarities with the former Dark Lord
A half-blood who was left with the muggles, sorted into Slytherin, full of charms and wit that is both astounding and terrifying
You put all the blame on Tom Riddle on why he had to be a Dark Lord out of all the possible career choices because now, even with all your charm and no matter how much you smile, everyone is just hesitant when it comes to you
It makes manipulating a lot more difficult than it should be and it sucks
You can remember how disbelieving you were when one man suddenly came before you and told you that you are a wizard and apparently, magic really does exist
It’s a prank — probably made by your friends who decided that it was a good time to make you look dumb and dreamy just because you’re way too serious, and “having fun won’t hurt you”
Turned out that the man wasn’t a fraud, and he is a professor in an institution called Hogwarts which you’ll now attend. Congratulations!
You still can’t believe that you get to have free magic education
If you were the next Voldy as everyone lowkey believes, you’ll also hold Hogwarts in a high regard like he did
But sorry to disappoint them, you don’t really want to conquer the world nor annihilate the muggles and muggleborns
Your mother is a muggle and you grew up in the muggle world for god’s sake
I mean, yeah, to live in the streets after your mother died wasn’t easy and some people really deserve to be avada kedavra’d but dark lord isn’t on the top of your career choices list right now or like ever
And you’re so not going to make horcruxes. You don’t fear death, you accept the whole concept of living and then dying wholeheartedly. What you fear is commitment.
So how do we make one Nishimura Riki to go away and pester someone else?
First year, after the sorting, this guy with aristocratic features immediately befriended you. Good thing you’re on the same house. He was the one to teach you most of the things that you needed in order to survive inside the house of the snakes. Apparently everyone knew that you are an illegitimate child, and your father came from a line of a highly regarded pureblood family, so you were a big scandal when you came into the wizarding world.
At first you were really suspicious of Ni-ki, but it turned out that he just really wanted to help you and he’s a big softie under all those piercing gazes
The hat sorted him into slytherin because he asked it to
He’s a vain to your existence because your greatest fear is to get attached but the boy is such a precious bean so you always have an internal conflict on whether to keep him or make him go away
But to think about your bestfriend having other friends kinda hurt
Except that’s exactly what happened when Taki from Hufflepuff easily passed through all the walls around Ni-ki and then he was adopted into K and Seon’s friend group
It’s comprised of wizards and witches from different houses so you really weren’t that worried that Ni-ki will face discrimination
Honestly, ever since Harry Potter ended the last wizarding war everyone’s putting more effort to treat all students equally regardless of their house
You were happy for Ni-ki, of course, because you see him having fun setting pranks among other things with them
Merlin, he even plays quidditch with them when you both already established that he can’t ride a broom even if his life depended on it
You tried teaching him, because, well, you’re one of slytherin’s beater and you’re good at quidditch
(Another point on why you can’t be a Voldemort wannabe)
Then one day, Ni-ki suddenly approached you after you exited the library and you can see his new friend group meters away from where you both stand
He invited you to a quidditch match, and who are you to say no?
You highkey want to prove that, well, you’re better than Ni-ki’s new friends and yes, you’re petty and jealous like that
Pretty sure you glared at everyone included in K and Seon’s little (big) friend group but they just look amused and it’s irritating
It’s not like Ni-ki comments or anything so it’s fine
Quidditch happened, and your team (aka you, sungchul, daniel, ej, heeseung, k and taeyong) won the game so you can’t help but wear a huge ass grin
You definitely proved the point you’re just proving to yourself, and well, you enjoyed aggressively hitting the bludgers to Jay from Gryffindor
You enjoy the quiet yet the guy is just so LOUD every single time
And he clings to Ni-ki so much
You despise him, lowkey, just lowkey
Jake of Hufflepuff commented that you were out for Jay’s blood but is he wrong though
You didn’t miss the way Jungwon of Gryffindor glared at you though
After the match, you sorta also kind of got adopted to their friend group
You didn’t really notice it at first, but when you’re in classes without having Ni-ki with you, one of the guys sit beside you instead.
You find yourself gossiping with Jaebeom of Gryffindor and Sunoo of Ravenclaw in the library instead of doing your essays weeks in advance
That summer, Heeseung of Hufflepuff invited you to stay with them and you accepted the invitation. You didn’t regret it.
You also met with the other guys when you go shopping in the muggle or wizarding world, or when you go for dinner together, and  —
Going to the arcade was fun especially seeing Sunghoon, your housemate, who’s mostly calm and poised, lose his voice because of all the shouting he made while playing the vr
Jay also got mad scared but it’s the normal. He’s Jay after all.
You also went to an ice skating rink and Sunghoon is just so majestic
When Jungwon said that he’s better at skating than walking, he wasn’t lying
Sunghoon and Heeseung taught you how to skate. You suck at it, but well you can’t be good at everything. Can You-Know-Who even skate?
It was fun, they’re fun, you enjoy being with them so so much.
Now what happened to not getting attached?
The most unexpected was your friendship with Jay. How did it even happen?
You’re a hundred percent sure you wanted him dead during your first quidditch match. Now you found yourself running and throwing yourself to him when their team won the quidditch cup this year. The fact that they defeated your usually undefeated team went ignored.
A loud cough pulled you away from Jay (it was definitely Sunghoon’s) but you proceeded to ruffle Jeongseong’s sweaty hair anyway while giving him a very very bright smile you didn’t know you can do.
Why are you so proud of him anyway? He was that annoyingly loud guy within the friend group, a pureblooded gryffindor who acts first before thinking, thinks he’s funny when he’s not, had the patience to listen to your nonsensical existentialist ramblings, comforted you when you were having a breakdown about your grades, always shares his plans for the future and all of those plans include you, he includes you?
You still can’t remove Ni-ki’s affronted face matching Jay’s proud one when you helplessly giggle because of a joke the gryffindor made.
In your defense the joke is actually funny (other people says otherwise)
You find it easier to have fun, be happy, when you’re around them, especially when you’re around Jay.
It wasn’t your observation, you see, it was Ni-ki’s. He confronted you about it and that’s how you became more aware of your feelings. It’s all good though, Jay’s just your friend, or best friend? depends on how you categorize or think of the people within the group
Besides, the fear is still there
Except the observation wasn’t solely noted by your first best friend. Sunoo and Jaebeom can tease you with just using Jeongseong’s name. K and Seon sometimes give you advice about love and courting at random times. Taki and Ni-ki literally pushes you to him whenever you meet. Jake and Sunghoon give subtle hints around that you think you’re supposed to remember such as Jay likes sweet things — He likes watching anime, you know what that is right? It’s really weird for a pureblood to know about those muggle things but his aunt is a muggleborn so I think that’s the reason why —Jay’s like a puppy isn’t he? — That Park Jeongseong is still angry at Heesung hyung because he gets to have you the whole summer last year —
Are you crushing on him? Or is this just an attraction you can easily recover from? Or are you feeling this way because of how your friends always tease you?
You have no idea, lol.
And as much as those romance novels you borrowed from Hanbin shows that whenever the main character gets confused, they avoid the other person, you didn’t avoid Jay because well, that would be stupid
But if he ever really do confess to you just like what Jungwon suspects, you’re gonna ride a broom and zoom out of the castle real quick, and probably build a following and actually just be the next dark lord because that’s easier than dealing with feelings
Especially if those feelings involve absolute pure softness to a guy who just used only his arms to crawl on the floor
“That’s the dance step, he’s not high or anything”  — Seon, explaining, because he probably feared the way you see Jay will change after what he did
But again those feelings involve absolute pure softness and you didn’t really think before saying “aww, he’s cute”  as a reply
Seon looked at you surprised. K, Ni-ki, Daniel, and Nicholas wear huge grins on their faces. Geonu looks so horrified by the statement. Sunghoon snorted, Sunoo rolled his eyes while wearing a knowing smirk, and Jake patted your shoulders. You’re still processing what really happened.
Jay, now walking, came closer to the group and asked why you look so horrified
Of course, you composed yourself aka wore the resting face Ni-ki and Sunghoon taught you, and said “nothing” while the rest of the group snickers
Jay just snorted and put his arms around your shoulders. It’s time for dinner after all.
The thing is, a lot of people are already asking around whether you and the golden boy of Gryffindor are dating. That includes the group and most of all Jay, who just answers those type of question with a bright smile.
They can’t ask you directly because most students and professors are still scared of you. If not scared, intimidated then.
But if ever anyone dares to ask you, you’ll say that no, you’re not dating Jeongseong. It’s the truth anyway. You’re close, and you’re most fond of him ( sorry Ni-ki, I still love you ) but you’re just friends, nothing more.
Then the Hogsmeade incident happened
It’s already a tradition that the whole group visits the village together. Sometimes you separate into groups, but most of the time the whole 24 of you go together. And isn’t that a sight?
Except this time a certain group of slytherins by the looks of their tie, decided that it’s fun to go back to their nasty old ways and insult other people just because of their blood status.
According to them, K’s embarrassing the whole pureblood community by allowing mudbloods to join the group
But to you, they’re just jealous because the group’s quiet really popular, hah
Unfortunately things got really heated and suddenly there’s a whole lot of shouting and shoving around
Thank Merlin, they confiscate your wands before allowing you to venture outside the school property
Jay, no mater how loud and crazy he gets, isn’t really one to fight. So as he was trying to reach out to the opposite and probably suggest peace, someone pushed him in his chest hard enough that he collided with Jake behind him.
You didn’t see red, no, you’re not that kind of person
You were a hundred percent sane when you stepped forward and faced the senior who just pushed jay, gave him the most lethal smile you can give that could have certainly make him pee in his pants, only that he didn’t even have the time for that as you punched him square in the face
Years as a street dweller and as a thief ought to teach you skills.
The fight quietened and your pretty sure your friends are staring at you in disbelief. The accomplices of the guy you just punched look so red with either embarrassment or anger, you really can’t tell.
Your memory failed you this time. You can’t really recall everything you said and did but you’re pretty sure you said a lot of insults, and threw a whole lot of punches and kicks, and what else did you do?
But now you found yourself sitting in the Slytherin common room surrounded by everyone with Jay kneeling in front of you and dressing your wounds.
You didn’t even notice how your hands are hurting, or that they’re bleeding. However, you’re a hundred-percent sure those guys from a while ago have bleeding faces or something which is fun
No one spoke for a while.
Until Jay went on an hour long rant about how you’re so reckless, that you should’ve kept your cool and didn’t physically fight the bigots, then it went on how you’re so amazing, and where did you learn how to fight like that?
Yes, you did notice how you’re sitting there facing the ranting guy while wearing a foolish and fond smile even though the said guy’s one half ranting and another half insulting you. You didn’t stop smiling anyway.
The fear of committing, of loving, of being attached is still there. You decided to be brave anyway. After all, if it’s for your friends, then you can dare.
And if said fear runs deeper when it comes to a certain Gryffindor, you decide to even be braver everyday then.
If it means you get to keep him.
The definite line separating romantic from platonic love is already way too blurry between the both of you, and if Jay won’t ask you out first, then it is also practical to do it first for the both of you.

Defense Against Your Inability to Respect Curfew
Tumblr media
pairing: draco x goldentriofriend!reader
warnings: just draco being possessive i guess. also mild mild mild torture i guess, umbridge’s detention punishment is mentioned
request: yes! thanks anon!
summary: reader is friends with golden trio and draco decides to mess with her, then realizes he’s gone too far and realizes that he’s just jealous
a/n: i always have difficulties writing stories like these ones because as the author, you walk such a fine line between making possessiveness cute and making it controlling and abusive, so i apologize if this fic isn’t as brash as other jealousy centered ones. i’m gonna try and keep it a little more vanilla than the way the usual fics treat this kinda thing. possessive bfs in real life suck ass if they get too controlling lol also i put the reader in Slytherin, i apologize if the person who requested this wanted it some other way!

Y/N’s least favorite class was Defense Against the Dark Arts, by far. In all of her other classes, she was at least with her Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff friends. However, DADA was her only class shared with the Gryffindors, something she had mixed feelings about.
She never really felt like she fit in with her fellow Slytherins--they were all so judgmental, and since she was muggleborn, stuff was even worse for her. For the most part, the goons of Slytherin left her to her own devices, something she was generally thankful about, but she was lonely.
And then there was the fierce rivalry between the Gryffindors and the Slytherins, something that made DADA even worse. She had yet to make any friends in that class as everyone from the other house just assumed that she was prejudiced. No one ever asked what her blood status really was--after seeing her green tie, they decided they could deduce the answer for themselves.
In a stroke of luck one day, Neville Longbottom was reprimanded for goofing off too much with his table, and Umbridge “asked” him to switch places with Y/N, allowing her to free herself of Draco Malfoy’s constant criticism. She gratefully accepted the switch, moving her items and settling in next to Harry Potter and the rest of his friends.
That was all it took. Within one afternoon, Y/N made quick friends with the Golden Trio and the rest was history. Suddenly she was sitting at the Gryffindor table for meals, laughing with them in the halls during break, and even sneaking into their common room to spend the night with Hermione and Ginny on weekends.
Life was good, but as time went on and she grew closer to the group, she began to notice a certain blond paying more attention to her.
Draco Malfoy had hardly given her the time of day when she was next to him in DADA, something she didn’t mind all that much. Before she had started eating with the Gryffindors, Y/N often found herself sitting to Draco’s right, but he rarely acknowledged her apart from the occasional shy smile and nod.
But one late Friday night, all that changed. She was quietly sneaking out of the Gryffindor common room after playing a very competitive game of Monopoly with Ron and the twins, conscious of the fact that she was way past curfew. She had heard of the new inquisitorial squad created to assist Umbridge, but she had never been caught by them on all her midnight escapades and assumed her lucky would hold up,
Quick spoiler: it didn’t.
She was lucky enough to make it back to her own common room, but she wasn’t alone. A figure sat in an armchair near a dying fire, twirling a wand around his fingers.
“Y/L/N.”
Y/N jumped at the sound of Malfoy’s drawled words.
“How nice of you to finally return to your own house,” he began, eyeing his wand. He had stopped spinning it now.
“I’m sorry,” she responded. “I fell asleep in the library studying for-”
“You seriously expect me to believe that?” Malfoy cut in. “You think I haven’t noticed where you’ve been?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she pushed back. The Slytherin part of her knew that playing dumb was the only feasible option.
“Oh, I think you do.” He turned to face her, his eyes ablaze with the reflection of the fire. “You know exactly what I’m referring to. There’s nothing stopping me from hauling you down to Umbridge’s office right now,”
Y/N froze. Of course. She’d completely forgotten that he was part of Umbitch’s prized squad.
“There’s no proof,” Y/N shot back. “And I’m going to bed. I bet she’d like to know how you found me outside, after curfew, when it wasn’t even your shift.”
She firmly set her jaw before turning on her heel and retreating to her room.
Next time, I’ll just sleep over she promised herself.
♥♥♥♥
Unfortunately, “next time” came much sooner than expected. Hermione refused to let her sleep over the next Saturday under the guise that she had to get up early the next morning and didn’t want to wake Y/N, someone who always slept incredibly late. Y/N argued and pleaded with Hermione, but she wouldn’t budge.
“I’m so sorry,” she had told her, ushering her out of the common room. “I swear I wouldn’t do this unless I really had to. But you’re lucky, and you haven’t been caught yet, and you’re slick, so you won’t get caught.”
They’d bade each other goodnight, and Y/N was off into the night.
She’d made no more than 2 meters before she heard someone clear their throat. Spinning around, she was horrified to see the sight of Malfoy leaning up against the wall.
“Isn’t this interesting?” He noted. “It’s funny, I remember the library being somewhere other than the Gryffindor common room.”
It’s a shame he’s such a git. He’d be pretty hot if he wasn’t so annoying Y/N thought to herself.
“Ah, you caught me,” she said, throwing her hands up. “What are you doing out here, though?”
Malfoy puffed his chest up and pointed at the badge on his robes.
“I requested for my shifts to be extended a little later. I’m not sure if you noticed,” he shifted his weight from one leg to the other in a rather dramatic gesture, “but I’m on the job. Come on now, Umbridge is in her office and I’m sure she’d love to talk.”
Y/N’s jaw dropped. Malfoy was really going to do this to his own housemate?
“You can’t be serious.”
“You’re not invincible, no matter what house you’re in. However, I might’ve given you more leniency if you actually acted like a Slytherin instead of a wannabe Gryffindor.” His remarks stung more than the cold air did.
“Well, what are you waiting for? Come along.”
Malfoy seized Y/N’s arm, dragging her down to the horrid pink office that she’d heard so many horror stories of. Harry had told her how her punishments were rather unorthodox but didn’t go into any more detail. Regardless, she was going to learn what they really were.
“You have no semblance of house pride,” Malfoy hissed at her halfway through the walk. “Hanging out with the Weasel? And Granger? And god forbid, Potter? Are you insane?”
“Maybe I like being around people who don’t care about my blood status!” Y/N countered. “I’ve grown to love them more in two weeks than I’ve loved Slytherin in 5 years!”
“Why don’t you tell that to Umbridge?” They’d reached the office door.
“Ladies first.”
Y/N rolled her eyes to hide her fear. Umbridge was apparently horrible any time of day, but she couldn’t imagine how much worse she’d be if she had to wake the demon lady up in the middle of the night.
Thankfully, the pink monstrosity was awake and doing paperwork at her ugly desk.
“Caught her lurking around the Gryffindor dorms,” Malfoy reported, pushing Y/N into a chair at a desk.
“Thank you, Mr. Malfoy,” Umbridge responded. “You can stay and watch, if you’d like.”
“Really?” Malfoy sounded...pleasantly surprised.
The little sociopath.
“But Professor, you don’t let anyone stay--”
“Well, I think you’re an exceptional example of what the squad ought to be like,” Umbridge told him. “You get to enjoy the fruits of your labor.”
What the...fuck? This was a whole different world of fucked up. What the fuck???
“Here you are, Ms....Y/L/N, is it?” Umbridge tossed a quill and piece of parchment paper to her and grossly mispronounced her last name. Y/N didn’t bother to correct her. “Write ‘I shall respect curfew” 50 times. I’ll be watching.”
“That’s it?” Y/N was shocked at the vanilla punishment. This was, like, muggle punishment. “Can I have some ink as well?”
Umbridge glared at her.
“You won’t be needing it. Just write.”
Y/N shrugged and began to write on the parchment. Within onds, a searing pain ripped through her hand and she gasped.
Umbridge was right about not needing ink--she had been so stupid. This was a black quill! How could Y/N have been so stupid?
A faint scratch of “I shall respect curfew” appeared on her hand, just barely breaking the skin. A matching sentence appeared on her parchment, glowing a vibrant blood red.
Oh, no. 50 times?
She began writing as quick as she possibly could, trying to ignore the burning pain on her right hand. She was always sensitive to blood--something that she couldn’t change, no matter how hard she tried. If she saw too much of it, especially if it was hers, she’d pass out.
10 down, 40 to go.
Her hand was shaking and tears were running down her face as she fought to keep consciousness. She hadn’t seen this much of her own blood in so long, not since she accidentally nicked her finger on a knife in potions last spring. Every stroke of the quill ripped deeper into her hand, and while the words healed up seconds after writing them, the next time hurt even more.
Y/N kept at it for almost an hour, eventually hitting her last phrase and flinging the objects at Umbridge.
“Goodnight,” Y/N mumbled before finally collapsing on the ground next to the desk. The last thing she saw was Draco’s horrified face before everything went black.
♥♥♥♥
When she came to, she was in a bed that was most certainly not hers. The sheets were a luxurious black silk--did they even have those at Hogwarts?--and it smelled much different than her room, much more like someone else’s choice of shampoo and mahogany. A bandage was wrapped tightly around her right hand, but she could see no visible bleeding through the fabric.
Where was she?
Y/N shot up, throwing the heavy blankets off of her and frantically scanning the room for answers.
“Oh good, you’re awake.”
A very tired Draco Malfoy sat in the corner, holding a candle in one hand and a cup of tea in the other.
final a/n: this literally went in every direction except for the one that the request specifically asked for and now i have to write a part 2 so that’ll be up soon

Wildfire - 1
Chapter 1: Bibbity Boggarty Boo
Should I have been writing the next chapter of Absence of Good? Yes. Should I definitely have been trying to write a Reylo oneshot I said I would write weeks ago? Oh, absolutely. But instead I got inspired to start a whole new series based off of Harry Potter, and so here we are. Sometimes I just have to follow where the inspiration leads, and if the several different Reylo drafts just aren’t working out, a George Weasley fic is what happens apparently. Anyway sorry to literally all of my followers who did not ask for this.

Warnings: Death. Themes of war. Abuse of power. Injury/gore.
Magic is a tricky thing. It is alive in its own way, not a tool but a force, unstoppable and scarcely controllable, wild and bright. If you are lucky enough to see it, to touch it, to have it run through your veins and into your children’s, you can maybe understand something of the untamable nature of magic. It has been argued that magic does not choose, but that it is only transferred, passed down through those of the purest blood. But…over the years, you have come to see different. Much as the wand chooses the witch, you are inclined to believe magic chooses the witch as well, and doesn’t have much to say as far as blood goes.
Convincing Professor Binns of that in the longest essay you had ever been assigned would be considerably more work. The professor could be a bit archaic as far as muggleborn rights went, which was all the more infuriating for you as a muggleborn. However, the man was dead, so you felt you had to give him a certain amount of credit for even still grading papers and teaching class, half-hearted prejudice aside. Binns’ refusal to throw hands with Malfoy, while not perhaps relatable, was at least understandable. You also often found it difficult to feel any amount of passion or human emotion sometimes.
“I just want to go to sleep,” you groaned.
“Awww, is little Y/N tired?”
Fred Weasley cooed over you, clearly unaware of how dangerously close he would be to death if you just had slightly more energy. That being said, you didn’t have slightly more energy, so maybe this was strategically advantageous for him. Nobody ever accused the Weasley twins of being stupid. Well, except for you sometimes.
“Don’t mess with me right now Weasley.”
“Oh no Georgie, she’s using my last name.”
“Our last name, Freddie. Maybe she was talking to me. Y/N dear, which one of us were you talking to?”
“Yes.” Your voice was slightly muffled from where you had just leaned forward into the table, carefully avoiding your freshly inked parchment.
“Well now, that’s not very nice. What did I do?”
“I’m sick and I have the world’s longest paper to write from Binns and I am in turns hot and cold which means the fire is both my best friend and actual Satan.” Also we are on the verge of war. Also the Dark Lord is back. Also there is a pink toad trying to run Hogwarts like a dictatorship. “I’m not in the mood to be messed with.”
You glanced up tiredly, ready to give a baleful glare, only to find a concerned looking George Weasley. Fred hovered behind him, his face also worried as he took in your red nose, watery eyes and miserable countenance.
“Love, why haven’t you gone to the hospital wing?” George asked.
“Because I can’t bring myself to drag my way all the way through this stupid castle just to get a freaking Pepper Up potion. In short, I’m lazy.”
You patted the couch next to you, gesturing for him to sit down so that at the very least he could give you that concerned look in comfort. He sat like he was on pins and needles, which you shouldn’t have been surprised by.
As long as you had known him, George Weasley had never been one not to take action. Fred got much of the credit for being the idea man, but the truth was that if George Weasley wasn’t moving he was dying inside. He was also just a tad bit protective, especially of you.
You attributed this to the fact that when you were a sweet, innocent muggleborn first year you may have lost your temper and managed to completely eviscerate Marcus Flint without ever laying a finger on him. Not that it was hard to emotionally damage a 13-year-old boy with teeth that jacked up. Anyway, Marcus had decided to go for a less pacifistic method of revenge and George Weasley had swooped in to rescue you, Fred in tow. It didn’t take long to become friends with the guys who had saved you from the hospital wing.
You leaned into his side, sniffling quietly, only to have him launch up and swiftly be replaced by Fred trying to prevent you from falling over.
“I’ll be right back,” George said, a determined look on his face and no explanation on his lips.
You raised an eyebrow at Fred. “So, should I expect him back in 5 minutes or 3 hours?”
“I bet you a chocolate frog he’s back in 5 minutes.” Fred grinned.
“That’s not fair. You always win bets about George.”
“I wonder why.”
You rolled your eyes before resuming staring at the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room, its warm flames licking the faded brick, staining it soot black, Death Eater black. These days it seemed like everything in your head came back to Death Eaters. And if it wasn’t Death Eaters, it was Umbridge.
You had to admit to being petrified by Umbridge. It wasn’t that she didn’t make you angry. She did. But you also knew what she did to students who misbehaved, had seen the scars settling into Harry Potter’s hand, had once even caught George trying to hide blood from you.
“Georgie, what’s that?” You stopped him on his way up to the dorms.
You were up late studying, and it was well past the hours any decent human being should be awake. You were up though, trying to puzzle out a potions assignment and meeting with very little success. George, apparently, was also up, and clutching his sleeve in a very odd, suspicious fashion.
“It’s nothing. Shouldn’t you be asleep?” He turned away from you, framing the arm in question in shadow.
“Did you hurt yourself working on new products again?” You asked, crossing the room to inspect his arm. You pushed the sleeve back, chatting as you went. “You really have to be more careful. I know there’s a lot of demand, but you can’t put your health at risk just fo-”
You gave a small gasp when you saw the words scrawled into his arm, blood still fresh, jagged little bits of skin speckled with red darker than his hair, more ominous. I must not make mischief.
“Who did this to you?” You knew the answer, but you had to ask.
“Really, it’s nothing. Don’t worry about it, Y/N. Go to bed.”
He tried to pull his arm out of your grasp, but you held on, careful not to hurt him. Gently, you edged a single finger around the clean skin surrounding the wound. Your other hand had found its way into his, fingers lacing together in your horror, tears in your eyes.
She shouldn’t be allowed to do this to him. No one should be allowed to do this to him. This shouldn’t happen to good people like George Weasley. He didn’t deserve it.
“Hey,” he said softly, wiping a tear off your cheek. “It’s alrigh’ love, I’m fine. Just a flesh wound.”
“We should uh..” You took a shaky breath. “We should clean it up.”
You lead him over to the couch, leaving him to wait while you headed to your room and grabbed some spare bandages and ointment from a first-aid kit your mother insisted you take to Hogwarts with you every year.
“We’ll have you better in no time,” You promised with false cheer.
“Pepper Up potion!” George announced triumphantly. “Fred and I use it all the time when we’re testing products. We’ll have you better in no time.”
You had more reason to be afraid of Umbridge than just what you had seen though. The truth was that while you tended to be docile as a lamb when people attacked you, you didn’t like it when people attacked the people you loved. You had gone after Umbridge and paid the price in long sleeves and muggle makeup, but some mean, dark, spiteful thing inside of you said that every detention was worth it despite the pain.
You couldn’t let the twins know though. If George saw the words carved into the back of your hand and up your arm in your own loops and swirls he would have a fit.
I must not be a know-it-all.
You knocked back the potion quickly, shaking your head vigorously as it burned through you.
“I swear muggle alcohol has nothing on that crap,” You muttered.
“Hey, don’t complain. I just magically cured you of all your ails.”
You snorted lightly, grinning up at him. It was true though. Your stuffed nose and wheezing breaths were gone, replaced by perfect health, more or less.
“My hero,” you said.
“My angel.”
You blushed, shaking your head at him. Always so dramatic, the Weasley twins. Speaking of drama, some seemed to have found its way to you now.
Neville Longbottom ricocheted down the stairs, his face white with terror, as blank as a muggle who’d seen a ghost. If it were any other student, you might have been terrified, but Neville was somewhat more prone to bouts of fright. You stood calmly, smoothing out your robes and reaching casually for your wand.
“You alright there Neville?”
“B-b-boggart,” the boy stuttered.
“Don’t you worry Neville, Y/N will get it sorted. Never seen anyone cast a better riddikulus charm, myself,” Fred said.
“You give me too much credit, Fred.” You were already heading up the steps of the boy’s dormitory though, confident in your ability.
You could hear George speculating on how it must have gone missing from some closet in the deeper reaches of the castle. There were so many nooks and crannies in Hogwarts that there was always at least one boggart somewhere, even if you never saw it. Wand at the ready, you opened the door to Neville’s dorm, knowing exactly what to expect. Except you didn’t find what you expected.
You pulled in a deep breath, legs shaking as you stared at what was before you. It was supposed to be you tied up or in a straight jacket or just generally somehow trapped, your worst fear. Or it had been your worst fear, before you went to war.
His red hair was plastered to his pale face, blank eyes staring. All the light and mischief sucked right out of them. You fell to your knees just outside of the circle of blood pooling around his body, and a choked noise came out of your throat, the only sound you could make.
One of the boys must have heard you, because you vaguely registered Neville calling up to ask if you were okay. You couldn’t answer though, transfixed by the sight before you. You knew you were supposed to riddikulus it, but you couldn’t move.
At some point, the boys must have come up the stairs, because you heard a quiet voice behind you mutter, “Bloody…”
You thought it might have been Fred, but you weren’t sure.
“Come on, angel.”
George’s soft voice filtered through the cold mist that had a grip on your mind, his hands gripping your arms, gently but firmly lifting you back up to your feet. With a flick of his wand, he cast the charm, breaking the boggart’s spell over you as his dead body turned to a comically fake version of the same picture, ketchup and all.
An arm over your shoulders, George steered you away from the dorm as you tried to process the shock of what you’d just seen.
“I never…It wasn’t…It used to be…”
“I know,” George said. “It’s okay. You don’t have to explain.”
You shook your head. “Last spring…last spring it was just me being trapped.”
George pulled you closer into his side, and you realized that hot tears were falling out of your eyes and onto his uniform.
“A lot’s changed since last spring,” he said. “It’s alright though. I’m here. Everything is fine.”
You realized with a grateful start that George was leading you back to your own room so that you didn’t have to cry in front of everybody in the common room, shielding your body with his own. The stairs appeared to accept your unspoken desire for him to be here as permission enough as he lead you up them without a hitch.
“It won’t stay fine though,” you managed to work out.
“I’ll still be here then,” he said.
“You can’t promise that.”
“I can. No matter what angel, I can guarantee you one thing. You and I, we’re going to stick together.” He opened the door to your dorm room, blissfully empty as most of Gryffindor tower was out on the first winter weekend with clear skies you’d had in a while. “And Freddie, of course.”
“I thought that was a given,” you joked.
“There she is,” George said, watching you smile a little as you took a seat on your bed.
“It’s just been a little…harder lately.” You defended your tears. “With everything we know and what the ministry’s doing and the Order and Umbridge’s de-”
You cut yourself off, quickly revising your choice of words. “Umbridge’s devastating ability to make me want to kill her.”
George laughed. “Don’t let her hear you say that. She’d probably call it high treason against the ministry or something. Say you were in cahoots with You Know Who.”
“Ugh. You Know Boo is more like it. Never met a bigger buzzkill than the Dark Lord.”
“Technically we’ve both had the good fortune not to meet him yet.” George leaned against one of the posters of your bed.
“We will eventually. Then I can tell everybody whether or not Harry was making it all up.”
George stiffened. “You think he’s lying?”
“Yeah, kinda. I mean, a guy with no nose? He had to have made that part up. There’s no way the big baddie doesn’t have a nose. Harry’s just yanking our chain.”
He burst out laughing, sparks flying from his chocolate eyes.
“It would be a good laugh too, wouldn’t it?”
“Oh, the best. Positively historic.”
“Oi, Georgie!” Fred’s voice bellowed up from the common room. “What are you two doing up there? Don’t make me call Minnie!”
You heard a chorus of laughter from the common room and groaned.
“Could you please ask him to stop convincing the school we’re dating?”
“I’ve asked, but you know Fred. He can be…”
“Stubborn?”
“An independent thinker.”
You huffed another laugh. “Okay, well you better get down there before he gets everybody to start independently thinking some very inappropriate things about us. I have a reputation to keep, you know.”
“Reputation as a stick in the mud, when we’re not around.”
“You love it. I’ll see you at dinner?”
“See you at dinner.”
You watched his scarlet head of hair disappear down the hall, moving like wildfire with each step, and grinned to yourself. You supposed if they were going to spread wildfire rumors about anyone, it would be George Weasley.

i haven't rewatched most of them in a while but here's the second half of rhe Harry Potter Movies from worst to still very bad
Irredeemable: Order of the Phoenix
absolutely horrendous. takes my favourite of the books and goes through its motions without capturing any of its feeling. First of all Harry doesn't yell at Ron and Hermione about being isolated all summer to the point where Hermione starts crying when they reunite which is fake and bad and Let Your Movies Have Pathos. is this why people think Harry isn't canonically traumatised lmao
I don't mind Neville getting the credit for Dobby tipping them off about the Room of Requirement although it does make his reappearance in the DH part 1 movie really weird because iirc we haven't seen him in the movies since CoS, but cutting Marietta Edgecombe and making the discovery of Dumbledore's Army not a betrayal from within but something literally forced out of Cho with veritaserum that is then still treated as if it were a betrayal is very bad. In the books, Harry and Cho drift apart because Cho insists on defending her traitor of a friend whereas in the movie Harry is apparently just victimblaming Cho for being fed a truth potion???
also they cut so many cool sections of the climax in the Department of Mysteries and it's like ?? prioritise your time to get just some of this in there damn. you don't really fully get the sense that this is For Real the time the golden and silver trio are On Their Own in the Real World outside Hogwarts the way you do in the book because they're simply there for way too short a time before the adults show up for that to get through also they don't really establish the veil much so Sirius falling through it is super random
okay maybe the one redeemable thing is that they did Luna alright. even if she is way more autistic in the books
I Hate It Here: Deathly Hallows Part 2
Book!Harry spends the entire book obsessing about Dumbledore's backstory only for movie!Harry to show up like "I really don't care what happened with you and your brother" WHO IS THIS DIPSHIT IMPOSTER.
did they like. think the Dumbledore story line wasn't hugely thematically relevant because it absolutely is. every book in the second half of the series is partially about growing up and dealing with the adults you look up to being fallible
since 1) they cut the Dumbledore sl and 2) men aren't allowed to cry in these movies, the scene at King's Cross is pointless outside it's completely utilitarian function of giving Harry the choice to go back to life or not. again, Dumbledore tearfully apologising to Harry is fucking important. Harry's empathy for the piece of Voldemort's soul screaming under a bench somewhere is relevant
also cutting the Dumbledore Plot makes the ollivander and Grindelwald stuff with the wand super fucking random lmao
Voldemort dying in a puff of smoke because Cool Visual Effects when again, him dying *like the regular human he is at the end of the day* is hugely thematically important is also bad
Have Dumbledore's Army even been doing anything at Hogwarts before the golden trio show up??? you don't super get the sense they have lol.
generally this movie just seems interested in doing all the hashtag cool memorable moments with no thematic or even like narrative coherence
Really Bad: Half-Blood Prince
the stuff in diagon alley is done really weirdly and that attack on the burrow they added is also really weird
the mischaracterisation of Dumbledore present ever since Gambon took over becomes a particular problem because like a really big problem once Dumbledore becomes a central character because all the super poignant moments between Harry and Dumbledore are bereft of most of the emotionality they have in the book especially the cave seen where Gambon!Dumbledore is too manly to cry hysterically I guess
the death scene is also absolute nonsense like the ONLY reason mister "has a saving people thing" doesn't act to stop Dumbledore's murder/assisted suicide in the book is that he LITERALLY CAN'T, he's petrified under an invisibility cloak, under literally no fucking circumstances would he just stand around while someone threatened Dumbledore least of all Draco fucking Malfoy
they also like??? cut the actual climax of the book in favour of making the cave the climax I guess?? like in the book there's a giant fight happening at Hogwarts between Dumbledore's Army + some Order of the Phoenix members and the Death Eaters while in the movie I guess the Death Eaters just wandered in, killed Dumbledore, burned Hagrid's hut and left??? and no-one did anything lmao????
movie!Ginny is such a disgrace to book!Ginny, it's not the actors fault they don't have chemistry after probably feeling like siblings having known each other that long but by god is every romance scene they have an awkward mess
young!Tom Riddle is like hilariously obviously evil, even in his teenage appearance where he's supposed to be CHARMING slughorn into giving him information
also this is a petty point but young!Dumbledore should have looked gay and flamboyant like in the book and he doesn't this is homophobia
the best thing about this movie is that one video on YouTube where someone cut the funny moments together to look like the trailer for a teen movie because yeah to be fair this probably IS the funniest of the movies so at least it has that going for it
Still Very Bad: Deathly Hallows Part 1
Mostly just kind of boring iirc?? They fail to get a lot of the ways muggleborn witches and wizards are being overtly discriminated against accross in their version of the scenes in the Ministry of Magic which is uh bad when that's a huge point about how easily a reactionary government is turned fully fascist and Umbridge isn't just "haha toad" she's specifically super mega fascist and has always been so, the shift in power is conveniet to her as a fascist who would make do with what she could do under a conservative government but can now do those things overtly and openly. the fact that she existed comfortably under Fudge and is now showing herself to be fully onboard with Voldemort's preferred policy is an important point
all the movies hate Ron and they are wrong they shouldn't fight me irl Steve Kloves like never is your Harmony agenda more obvious than this movie
this becomes an even bigger problem when you have Ron's arc of letting his inferiority complex get to you because if you don't understand Ron, you won't be able to do him justice
since the movies hate Ron as well as men having feelings, the stuff when Hermione is being tortured upstairs by Bellatrix and Ron is fucking losing it is also not done justice
the Dobby stuff just feels like Here's A Cool Moment For The Fans in the movie because again Dobby hasn't been the presence throughout that he is in the books. like Dobby is legitimately their friend in the books in the movie it just feels like he's doing it as a sort of life debt thing for Harry freeing him or something
the first four movies were fine. the third is probably my favourite even though that one definitely also includes Some Choices. my full preference list is: 3, 1, 2, 4, 7p1, 6, 7p2, 5 (for comparison, my books preference goes 5, 6, 3, 7, 1, 4, 2)

A while ago you mentioned you had an idea for a HP fic where Riddle Sr. escaped from Merope with baby Tom. I was really intrigued with the story because I’ve always thought that Riddle Sr was unfairly considered a bad guy due leaving her and his child, but he was basically a victim of the most powerful date rape drug in existence so he had every right to escape. What kind of father did you think he’d be if he had raised his wizard son?
Oh yeah, Tom Riddle Sr. got a lot of shit for being… basically a rape victim? I get the pity for Merope, I pity her as well (she was so deeply damaged by her upbringing and never got a chance to learn what love is really about), but that in no way changes the fact what she did to Tom Sr. was terrible. And I really don’t like how it’s framed, with even Dumbledore going on about how he abandoned Merope as opposed to running away from a forced relationship after the effects of a magical drug wore off. Even the narration goes out of its way to remark on the fact he was an Unpleasant Stuck-up Guy, as though being an unpleasant stuck-up rich kid (he was like 20, he was young) somehow means you deserve to be basically robbed of your free will, taken from home and be magically coerced into a relationship.
… Okay rant over sorry on to the story idea.
Basically my idea was that Merope would only wean Tom Sr. off the love potion after their child was born, hoping as per canon that he would be in love with her regardless. Of course he wasn’t, and of course he was absolutely horrified when she admitted what she’d done and how. Horrified enough to kill her out of anger and fear she might bewitch him again (with her too stunned and pained to react with any magic). As I said, I pity her, but let’s be honest - to Tom, she was a terrifying being who had enslaved him and could do it again if he allowed it.
Anyway, he’s now left with a dead body and a baby. He gets rid of the dead body somehow, and almost smothers the baby because what if it’s like its mother, but Tom Jr. starts wailing when he looks down in his crib (unusual, that, he was usually a very quiet baby) aaaaand no, he can’t do it. So he takes the baby, and gets to the nearest station. The plan is to hand the baby over to a bobby claiming he found him in a rubbish bin or something before hopping on the first train home. Only that he… doesn’t. He can’t. And so he gets home, trying to explain he was somehow bewitched (he is fully aware no one would believe the full story about a love potion, I mean, come on) and with a baby in tow, claiming Merope left him and the baby and he has no idea where she is now (the bottom of the Thames, probably) and anyway, he’d really like his old life back.
And the return home… sucks. A lot. His parents don’t believe him being bewitched for a second, of course, and are furious at him. His fiancee, well, she wants to hear no more of him since he just up and left her to elope with the crazy gal. The village as a whole is having a laugh at his expenses. His parents full-on pressing for him to give the baby up for adoption or something aren’t helping, but at this point Tom Sr. is so angry with his lot in life, he decides to keep the child mostly out of spite. He lost nearly everything, his reputation and the woman he wanted to marry, but this child? He’s his. He’s keeping him. His parents can swallow their dentures. Not that he’s going to look after him much, they can hire a nanny to do it and that’s exactly what happens.
But time passes and the baby grows, and to everyone’s relief he looks nothing like his mother, or anyone from that weird family. He looks like his father and he seems so normal, and little by little, his grandparents are won over. He becomes the apple of their eye, and of course they set upon spoiling him. The boy wants a pony to learn how to ride? Then by God, the boy is getting the damn pony, and new clothes, and just about anything he asks for. What Tom Jr wants, Tom Jr gets. He leads a sheltered life in the manor, his every whim satisfied.
And soon enough he wants to spend more time with his father, who has become increasingly withdrawn and spends a lot of time having long horse rides across the countryside, though never anywhere near the shack where she used to live. And little by little he lets him. He’s still guarded, anxiously waits to see if his son does anything strange, but he does not. There is a certain distance between them, and Tom’s mother is a subject to never bring up, but they… get along well. Tom Sr becomes more interested in what his son is up to, and he does give him whatever he wants because why not, that’s how he was raised, too. And the kid loves his life as it is, the spoiled only child in a big mansion with rich grandparents, long horse rides with his father, and not a care in the world. His mother? Why would he care to know who she was?
Until of course something happens. During one of their rides, they are ambushed by a raving Morfin Gaunt, who spooks the horses, makes Tom Sr fall off it, and tries to hex him - only to be thrown back by a sudden explosion of uncontrolled magic by Tom who is, understandably, kinda angry at this guy who went and threatened them. Morfin becomes unable to breathe and Tom almost, almost kills him before his father grabs him and snaps out of it and takes him away, back home, leaving Morfin to gasp.
Suddenly Tom Sr finds himself with weirdly dressed men in his living room, his parents’ memories being erased, and his child chasing around a moving chocolate frog while this Dumbledore fellow talks nonsense about a school of magic what the hell is going on.
What is going on is that this is basically his nightmare, his son is like his mother and will apparently go be educated among other people like his mother whether Tom Sr wants it or not. And ten years earlier, the day he broke free, he would have smothered the boy in the crib if he’s known that - but then was then and now is now, this is his son, and he wants him safe. It takes a long time to convince him Tom Jr will be fine learning magic, that everyone else will think he’s going to a really fancy boarding school, and he’ll be back every Christmas and summer, but he finally relents.
Of course Tom Jr is enthusiastic, a ten year old kid who was just told he’s gonna learn MAGIC, who wouldn’t be? It takes some effort for him not to blurt out too much in the presence of his grandparents. This is gonna be great, he thinks, and oh boy is he wrong. He is sorted in Slytherin, and he finds out at his expenses that being Muggleborn (of course he thinks his mother was a muggle, too, his father surely would have told him if his mother was a witch?) is looked down to. He goes from being a spoiled rich kid to being an easy target, the kind other classmates turn their nose up to. He tries the Draco Malfoy “when my father hears of this” talk, only to be laughed at because literally nobody fears or respects a muggle. You could say it’s one hell of a culture shock.
And he hates it. A lot. He loves learning magic, but he hates the way he’s treated and how his family is looked down to. Even once his achievements earn him some respect, he still hates it. So he looks forward to vacations at home, when he can be the spoiled rich boy again and spend time with his father - who knows all that well what it is like to be a pariah over something you had no control over. He almost tells him about his mother, but he can’t bring himself to. Instead he uses that time to teach him about Muggle things, about science and mathematics and literature and muggle history, a whole wealth of knowledge wizards discard but oh are they wrong to do it. The older Tom grows, the closer they get. People seeing them side by side could almost think they’re brothers.
Little by little, Tom becomes certain that Purebloods are deluded - it’s Muggleborns like him that really the best, because they have access to the knowledge of both worlds. And he eventually guesses, as he grows - as he hears whispers about his parents’ eloping - that his mother perhaps was a witch; he can guess what she did. But at this point he doesn’t care, and never bothers to look into her lineage. He’s Tom Riddle, he’s son of a muggle, and he’s going to show everyone what he can do. Instead of throwing away his father’s name to embrace his mother’s legacy, he throws away hers to remain his father’s son.
And… that’s the long and the short of it. I would need to check my notes to see what was meant to happen at this point, but I think Grindelwald’s war was involved, with Tom taking the opposite side because oh no, he’s not going to trample Muggles underfoot, no sir, not on his watch. All while his father knows vaguely what is going on, and is worried for his son, the way parents are, as Tom tells him and his grandparents to move for their safety. At some point, Tom Sr would have probably told him the whole truth about what his mother did to him and how she ended up.
I don’t remember if they all made it through to see the end of 1945 - I think I had Tom Sr and Morfin Gaunt dying in the same incident, and Tom visiting the Gaunt shack afterwards to set it on fire, letting it burn with Salazar’s locket inside while he rode back to Riddle Manor, but I’m not 100% sure.
… I was pretty close to making this my NaNo project a few years ago, really. I kinda wish I had gone for it, but oh well. XD

anonymous asked: what are the odds caradoc survived? or benjy? is it at all possible considering they don't come back to try and save their friends? or did an injury maybe cause either to be unable to return?
considering the ambiguity of their only canon lines , it is entirely possible that both caradoc and benjy survived. what we have to understand is that by this point , it’s pretty clear that the resistance is losing the war. they’re losing bodies. they’re recruiting kids , and those kids are dying. the future is dying. and dumb.ledore keeps throwing them to the wolves anyway , but what can he do ? give up ? admit he has no plan and no effective way of prolonging the inevitable ? individually , for different reasons , yes , it is entirely possible that caradoc and benjy survive.
for one , a trace of caradoc is NEVER FOUND. no body , no crime etc etc. and it isn’t about caradoc being able to abandon his friends. it is about his friends being unwilling to allow him to die for a cause that does not care about him. dumble.dore and crouch both spewed pro - muggle rhetoric in order to get more muggleborn students to join their ranks , and caradoc was the first to fall for it headfirst. and he became disenchanted faster than anyone. it became apparent very quickly that heading a task force of hit wizards had nothing to do with his skill but with his expendability. he was the first deployed because he was the last concern , and he always went so willingly. he doesn’t need this war. he doesn’t need their bad blood. and frank would be the first to tell him to get out. ted stayed away from the war just fine. he had other priorities , and while caradoc no longer has his family , it doesn’t make him eager to be a martyr. so the idea that he just disappeared with the help of frank and kingsley is anything but a reach. but it is also possible he was injured. or honestly , frank isn’t above wiping his memory. like i dont think you understand how desperate and on edge frank was by the time alice got pregnant , especially when he’s addicted to potions that do more harm than good. it’s just facts.
as for benjy , he just doesn’t fucking care. he fights to fight. he likes fighting. he likes drama , and he likes a show , and where better to get all of that than a war ? but again , he has no real loyalty to dumbledore. he has a loyalty to the bastards and no one else , and if frank would have told him to get the hell out of dodge and go join his family in america , it would be hard for him to say no when he realizes that he’s not just fighting to fight anymore. the fights are no longer fun. the war is no longer FUN. he can go back to boxing or bar fights. he doesn’t need to risk his life for men who don’t value it at all. and he does have a family he can take care of. so if you can find bits of peter pettigrew and that motherfucker can survive , you better believe benjy can too. and yeah , dying is super heroic and edgy and benjy likes the folklore that comes with it , but he won’t actually die for it. he’d rather fake that shit , get the folklore , and still get to live a whole other life. benjy’s selfish like that. he’s really not down to die for anyone but his damn self. kingsley and frank both respect and understand that , so it’s not at all wild that these two would send their two ( three , counting ted ) muggleborn friends away from a war that they are obviously going to lose.
the point is this group of boys turned men loved each other more than the world. frank stayed because he had to try and save a world his son could live in. kingsley stayed because he cares too much about everyone else. doc and benjy just didn’t have those attachments beyond frank and kingsley , who were more than willing to get them out.

“But, you know what? Yoongi thinks you’re worth the hassle, okay?”
Namjoon continued to stare.
“And I think you’re pretty cool, too. You listened to me go on about Mario and still wanted to play. You’re a weirdo. And I’m awkward. But I like you. So I think you’re worth it, too. Okay? Nod if you understand.”
Namjoon nodded, eyes glistening slightly.
“So, I’m saying it again and I really, really mean it now. You are my friend, Namjoon. And that means I'm going to be here, whether you like it or not. And as Yoongi would put it, fuck the houses .”
Namjoon gave a little choked laugh. Seokjin couldn’t help but lean in to hug him.
“You might be stubborn, Namjoon, but I’ll have you know I’m pretty stubborn, too. I already decided. I’ll always be here for you, okay?”
It took a few seconds, but eventually he heard Namjoon whisper, “Okay.”
CHAPTER 2
September 1, 1991: Hogwarts Express
Seokjin Kim knew his life was over.
He huddled on the floor of the empty compartment because crying while seated on the actual seats did not satisfy his current level of woe. He was only eleven, but never had he been more certain of a fact than now. His life was over .
The entire morning was a horrible blur of dramatic screaming, mostly on his part, as he clung to his Nintendo Super Comboy and locked himself in his room, all the while ignoring his parents as they alternated between pleading and demanding his cooperation.
If someone had been passing the Kim residence that morning, many interesting exclamations would have been heard.
Things like: “I don't want to be a wizard, Dad!”
And: “Mario isn't a wizard!”
And: “I want to be plumber!”
He vaguely remembered screaming those along with a litany of other nonsense, he’d admit to that. Okay. It was not one of his finest moments.
However, he felt it was justified considering how his family had literally railroaded him into wizard boarding school with almost no consideration for his social life. Sure, magic was cool. But who was going to play Super Mario World with him? He knew how these things worked, incoming witches and wizards generally fit into two categories: 1. Muggleborns or half-bloods who were raised closer to their muggle roots and were going to be too in-awe of the new environment to appreciate the good old simple fun from their world or 2. Purebloods and those already extensively exposed to magic and would have literally no clue what was happening in the muggle world, particularly in the matter of technology.
Seokjin was both fortunate and unfortunate enough to fall into an odd median between the two. While his father was a pureblood wizard of respectable lineage, he had also inherited the rebellious streak from his own father, who had emigrated from Korea in lieu of continuing the family trade as mediwizards, a respectable career for a Chungin class wizard (Seokjin never understood the class division of the Korean Wizarding World, much like he didn't understand the obsession with blood purity here in the U.K.). In any case, Seokjin’s father had taken rebellion one step further and had not only married a muggle woman but had also chosen a mundane career path as a baker.
That was not to say his upbringing was completely devoid of magic. His father had maintained close ties with their family back in Korea, and Seokjin had spent many a happy summer there.
However, one momentous event last year had taken his life on a whole new path. For his 10th birthday, his uncle, while on business in Korea, had managed to pick up a revolutionary game system, the Nintendo Super Comboy.
And his young life was forever changed.
He swore his allegiance to the magnificence that was Mario and the rest of the adorable pixelated crew in Super Mario World, and that was the end of that.
It may have taken several months of groveling on his uncle’s part, but his mother was now on speaking terms with her brother again, so Seokjin figured no harm no foul.
On one hand, yes he was borderline obsessed with the game system, but on the other, he finally had something that helped him connect with the neighborhood muggles his age. Finally, there was something that overcame even his eternal awkwardness, and over the past year, Seokjin could finally say he had a relatively close group of friends. Heck, he would even call Ken, a boy on his block, his best friend.
But now, all that came crashing down. His adventures in Mario’s world with his real life friends were over. Now, he had to start over from scratch, and with witches and wizards.
There was no hope.
His one consolation was that, as an olive branch (and last resort on his father’s part) for peace and his cooperation, he was able to bring his newly magicked Nintendo Super Comboy with him.
At least he would still have Mario.
Speaking of which, he might as well distract himself from his imminent social ostracization with some artificial friends. There will be plenty of time for intensive boyhood pains and feeling sorry for himself later.
However, just as he reached into his pouch containing the Comboy, which his father had also been kind enough to cast an Undetectable Extension Charm on, the door to his compartment slid open with a loud bang to reveal two boys his age.
Seokjin could feel his eyes blinking rapidly, a terrible nervous habit he’d never been able to break. Bloody hell. He wasn't supposed to let anyone know about the pouch, but here he was, shoulders deep in the bag.
His dad was going to kill him.
Both the newcomers silently stared at him. He'd give them a pass. He sure wouldn't know what to do if he were to open a door and come face to face with a sorry looking kid huddling on the floor of a train compartment, half inside a small pouch, face still probably covered in dried tear stains, blinking aggressively.
His whole life was awkward. His father killing him would be merciful.
“Can I help you?” he asked, because his mother raised him better.
The tall, lankier one was the first to answer, although his eyebrows were furrowed in confusion, “Do you mind if we sit here? Everyone up front seems to be making a ruckus about some student being here. It was getting too noisy.”
The whole time Lanky was talking, his friend, a pale, waif-like boy, was giving both Seokjin and his companion extremely dubious looks, like he couldn't decide whether or not he should remain in either of their presence any longer.
“No, go right ahead. There's no one else in here. Except me, I mean. I'm here. Just me.”
“Okay… yeah.” Lanky slid into the room after a short pause, cautiously easing into the bench across from Seokjin.
His friend was a little more reluctant to enter. He turned to look down the train, as if deciding between the pros and cons of going to find another compartment, but ultimately seemed to decide against it as he heaved an impressive sigh and stomped in to collapse next to his friend. He was certainly an interesting character, since the second his butt made contact with the seat, all energy seemed to leak out of him, leaving just enough for him to lazily lift a leg and ease the door close with his foot.
There was an awkward silence. Well, correction, Seokjin was awkward, Lanky was clearly uncomfortable, and Lumpy seemed perfectly fine once he’d melted into the seat. In fact, Seokjin wasn't even sure if he was even awake anymore. Wow. That was fast.
Which was why he jumped and almost dropped the Comboy he was finally pulling out when Lumpy broke the silence, apparently not asleep like he’d thought, “Why are you sitting on the floor?”
Well, here was his chance. New place, new people, new Seokjin Kim.
‘Seokjin-ah, you can do it,’ he thought to himself. ‘Don't be weird. Short and sweet is the way to go.’
But instead, he opened his mouth and cemented his lot in life, “Well, you see, I'm going through a bit of a tough spot right now. My life is over, and I just didn't feel that I could really enjoy the seat properly, and the floor felt like a much better place to mope. Just mope. Not cry. I wasn’t crying. I could move to the seat if it bothers you.”
“I really don't give a shit what you do, mate. I was just asking ‘cause this idiot’s dying to know, but won't ask you until it's too late, and I can't sleep while he’s fidgeting.”
Seokjin honestly didn't have a response for that.
The boy didn't bother to open his eyes as he continued, “Now that that’s out of the way, I'm going to take my nap, now. Don't either of you talk to me until we get to the school or food comes. We good? Good.”
He then proceeded to further melt into his seat and slip into oblivion.
Glancing over to Lanky, Seokjin was slightly comforted to see the boy staring in shocked horror at his friend.
“Is he always like that?”
“Yeah. Pretty much.” He looked back Seokjin. “I'm Kim - I mean, I'm Namjoon Kim, by the way, and he's Yoongi Min. Sorry about… actually, I have no idea what I'm apologizing for, but I feel like I should…”
“I'm Seokjin Kim. And if anything I should apologize.”
“For?”
“I don't know? Sitting on the floor? Being awkward?”
“Well, if we all go through life trying to live up to the expectations of society, that would be a whole lot of extra work, wouldn't it?”
Seokjin silently stared at the boy, who had just said what he did with a completely straight face.
‘What?’ he thought.
“What?” he said after a moment’s consideration.
The boy — his name was Namjoon, Seokjin tried to remind himself — gave a little uncomfortable wriggle in his seat before answering, “I mean, I'm sure you have a perfectly good reason why you're sitting on the floor. I don't know your situation so who am I to judge what you're doing.”
“Huh.” Seokjin continued to inspect Namjoon. He came to a very solid conclusion. “You're an odd one, aren't you?”
“Yoongi always said that I don't know when to stop and that I should probably learn to shut the fuck up.”
“Your friend sounds like a real charmer.”
“He grows on you.”
“Like fungus, I'm sure.”
The other boy only shrugged nonchalantly in response.
Another silence fell over the compartment, although this time it was slightly less awkward than before. Namjoon was fiddling with the hem of his robes, which were a nice change from the usual attire of British wizards. Seokjin noticed the similarity of the two boys’ clothes and those worn by the boys in his grandparents’ neighborhood, so he assumed the boys weren’t locals. Not to mention he’d noticed Namjoon’s earlier slip in starting the introduction with his surname.
He wondered about how to start up a conversation when it came to him. He immediately perked up and beamed brightly at Namjoon.
“Speaking of mushrooms, you want to see something cool?”
And that was the end of that. At some point over the next few hours, Seokjin finally pulled himself off of the floor and onto a seat, and Namjoon had slowly migrated from the increasingly squashed seat, as the sleeping Yoongi began to ooze over and claim more of the bench, to sit next to Seokjin. Both boys were deeply immersed in the game as Seokjin struggled to advance in the level while simultaneously answering the myriad of questions Namjoon threw his way.
They worked through a rough patch earlier when a still confused Namjoon had scoffed at the game, and the threat of a resurgence of waterworks from Seokjin ended that train of thought rather quickly.
They hit another bump in the road to Mario when Namjoon tried to apply some overly philosophical meaning to the pixelated characters. Seokjin nipped that at the bud with a deadpanned, “Sometimes a goomba is just a goomba, Namjoon.”
Eventually, they settled into a comfortable pattern which alternated between discussing gameplay and story, Seokjin slapping a bruise into Namjoon’s shoulder whenever Namjoon managed to wrangle the controls from him, and talking about themselves whenever activities permitted.
By the time the food cart rolled around, Seokjin knew that Namjoon came from a relatively affluent family, who were pretty active in politics as was expected of those in the Yangban class in Korea. He and Yoongi were both sent to study at Hogwarts rather than somewhere closer to home as a means to increase their families’ relations abroad. However, despite both being from the same class, from what Seokjin could make of what wasn't being said, Yoongi was from either a branch family or something of the sort and was from a completely different economic background than Namjoon.
In spite of this possible point of contention, both boys had grown up together and remained close friends. Based on this, Seokjin decided he was going to give the prickly character a chance, first impression notwithstanding.
As for Yoongi, it was almost magical how the second the creaking of the food cart was barely audible from their compartment, his eyes eased open without necessitating any involvement from the compartment’s other occupants.
However, Seokjin couldn't help but note with some trepidation that the casual malaise that seemed to cling to the boy’s every movement was contrasted by the sharp gleam in his eyes as he took in the sight of Seokjin and Namjoon huddling over the game.
Not that Seokjin was intimidated or anything.
Maybe just a little.
“Oh, good. Yoongi, you're up.” Namjoon noted, still keeping an eye on the characters and waiting for the next chance to grab the controller.
“You made a friend.” Yoongi’s tone could be considered disbelief, if one overlooked the lazy drawl.
Namjoon looked over and glared in response. Seokjin didn't voice it aloud, just to save his new friend some dignity, but the pout he was throwing at the boy across from him was more on the cute end of the spectrum. He hoped he wasn't aiming for stern.
He failed miserably if he was.
“Shut up. I could make friends. Seokjin, tell him you're my friend.”
“Um… I'm his friend,” Seokjin obliged.
Okay, now the look that Yoongi was throwing their way was just plain rude.
Seokjin raised his eyebrows back at the boy and stared, for a lack of a better response. Ha, that should show him. Seokjin totally had a handle on the situation. He’d never lost a staring contest in his life, and Yoongi had another thing coming if he thought he was starting today.
Of course, the traitor, Namjoon, took his momentary distraction as an invitation to reclaim the controller.
No, just no. Not happening.
The following scuffle was not going to win him any cool points with Namjoon’s judgmental shadow, but this was his game, okay?
And since the universe apparently had it out for him, he was in the middle of contemplating biting Namjoon’s hand because the boy was just that persistent, when the compartment door slid open again, this time revealing the round face of a boy their age. Everyone froze — well, Yoongi wasn't really moving to begin with — and stared at the newcomer.
While he was clearly shocked silent by the hectic scene inside the compartment, it was still clear that the boy was also rather distressed by the barely concealed tears in his eyes.
“You need something?” Yoongi’s gruff voice broke the silence.
Seokjin sent him a stink eye, not that he thought Yoongi cared, but would it kill him to have a heart?
The boy at the door seemed to wilt under their collective gazes but still managed to ask, “Have you seen a toad? My toad’s run off, again, and I can't find him anywhere.”
“Sorry,” Seokjin hurriedly answered before Yoongi could open his mouth. Who knows what kind of remarks would come out if he did. “We haven't seen any toads.”
“Oh,” the boy deflated even more, “I'll just keep looking.”
“Actually, you want some help with that,” Yoongi asked.
Seokjin stared at him in surprise.
“Yeah, Namjoon here loses stuff all the time. He's got plenty of experience looking for shit. He wouldn't mind helping you out, right, Namjoon? Oh, and, Namjoon, you mind grabbing me something from the food cart while you're at it? Something sweet. I don't care what.”
Of course.
It didn't surprise Seokjin when Namjoon stood to do just that with only a wary glare thrown Yoongi’s way.
As Namjoon ushered the boy out the doorway and off to who knows where, Seokjin managed to catch part of their conversation. The new boy was obviously still unsure about the turn of events.
“You really don't have to do this! I’ll just keep looking. Trevor usually turns up on his own. Um, I'm Neville Longbottom, by the way,” the boy said, his voice fading as they wandered away from the compartment.
Inside, however, the atmosphere abruptly turned cold. Yoongi didn't move, but the entire weight of his gaze fell on Seokjin. And with no Namjoon as a distraction, Seokjin was left wide eyed and clutching his controller.
“Look. I don't know you, but Namjoon? I think you’ve talked with him enough to realize some things, right?”
“He takes Mario way too seriously?”
Yoongi just raised his eyebrow before continuing, “I don't know how things work for you British wizards, but back home things aren't so straightforward. Did Namjoon mention his family?”
“Not really, but I guess they’re something of a big deal? You guys are Yangban , right?”
“Mm-hm. So, consider this a warning, this whole thing, coming to Hogwarts, studying abroad, was Namjoon’s idea, his father doesn't really approve of this. And he sure as hell isn’t going to approve of you.”
Seokjin began to bristle at this, “So are you telling me I can't be friends with him? Because you can take that and shove it — ”
Yoongi gave a short laugh, “No. I'm giving you a warning. Namjoon’s a lot more sensitive than he looks, and I just don't want to deal with the shitstorm later when things go to shit because some pansy-ass decides that there are easier things to do than be friends with a Yangban politician’s son.”
Seokjin stared for a moment.
He wanted to open his mouth and refute the implied accusation.
But the thing was, Seokjin had been to Korea enough times to get the gist of what Yoongi was saying. He had seen firsthand the unspoken but strictly upheld social expectations. He had heard rumors, more horror stories really, of what happens to those who crossed those of higher power. And ultimately, that was all it was, here it was all about blood purity, but there it was about class power. Both were something completely out of people’s control and Seokjin didn't understand it.
He knew himself. He wasn't complicated, and what he wanted was simply a comfortable existence. Conflict was difficult to avoid, of course, but he always tried his best to avoid situations that increased the likelihood.
Situations like these.
Namjoon apparently was going to throw a wrench in his plans for quietly powering through Hogwarts and bailing the second h e graduated.
But here, Yoongi was giving him an out.
Seokjin studied the boy for a moment. He was speaking from experience, Seokjin was sure. There would be consequences to being of an elite class without the financial backings expected of it. He was sure the other boy didn't have it easy either, but he still managed to maintain a friendship with Namjoon.
Suddenly, a wave of some unnamed emotion shook him as he really took in the situation. He thought of his grandfather and what he must have been thinking when he left his home. He thought of his father and mother for some odd reason.
In the end he thought about Yoongi, and he was grateful. Yeah, he could see why Namjoon liked him, in all his prickly glory.
Instead of answering, Seokjin reached into his pouch and pulled out his lunch boxes — his mom knew he was a bottomless pit.
“You want some ddeokpokki?” he asked.
“What?”
“It's really good. Mom always adds octopus because I said fish cakes alone were boring.”
The confusion on Yoongi’s face was the most expressive he’d been all day.
He took a moment to digest what Seokjin said before opening his mouth and trying again, “What?”
“You told Namjoon to get something sweet. The cart lady only has snacks, I should know, I made dad tell me all about the food here. You shouldn't eat sweets on an empty stomach. So, you want some ddeokpokki? I think I have some sandwiches, too.”
Yoongi blinked at him, “Did you not hear anything I just said? What the fuck, mate?”
“Of course I did. I just assume you and Namjoon are going to be a packaged deal. And you're too skinny anyway. Also, did you know you curse a lot?”
Yoongi stared at him.
He let the Yoongi mull things over and busied himself looking for some utensils. They were going to have to share the chopsticks, he guessed.
“What kind of sandwiches do you have?” Yoongi asked finally.
Seokjin smiled and happily went about describing his lunch.
By the time Namjoon got back, Yoongi was munching away at the ddeokpokki, while Seokjin was sulking with the sandwiches. He only offered someof the rice cakes, not all. Yoongi chose to deliberately ignore his attempts at reclaiming them.
“Did you get my sweets?” Yoongi asked.
“Did you find his toad?” Seokjin followed with what he felt was a much more pertinent question.
Rather than respond, Namjoon chucked two pumpkin pastries and a chocolate frog at Yoongi’s head. Only a pastry made contact but bounced harmless off the side of the boy’s head. Yoongi squinted at Namjoon, eyes promising future retribution.
Namjoon ignored him. Although he did throw a few odd looks between Yoongi, Seokjin, and the extra food.
“We didn't find the toad, but we ran into some girl who insisted on helping out. So I left Neville with her and came back,” he said, finally.
“That's too bad. I hope he finds his toad soon,” Seokjin said. “You want a sandwich? I would offer ddeokpokki but some people don't know the meaning of the word ‘share’.”
Yoongi didn't even bother to acknowledge his statement.
As for Namjoon, he continued to look back and forth between the two boys, “So… that's it?”
“What’s it? I have some gamja-jorim, but mom didn't pack a lot of side dishes.”
“No, I mean…” Namjoon trailed off and glanced over at Yoongi.
Yoongi just shook his head, “You can't have the ddeokpokki.”
“Yes, he can! It’s not yours, anyway.”
With purposefully slow movement, Yoongi picked up a rice cake and stuffed the entire thing in his mouth while holding eye contact with Seokjin.
The asshole.
If anything, Namjoon looked more confused by the interaction, “No, I meant to say, what are — ”
He stopped as abruptly as he started, still giving them odd looks. Then he just shrugged and slumped back in his seat.
“You know what? Never mind. Can I have a sandwich?”
Seokjin handed him one, and that was the end of that.
The rest of the train ride was a relatively quiet one, although much more comfortable than before. Yoongi was even kind enough to share a pumpkin pastry with Seokjin and Namjoon, although that may have had to do more with taking the opportunity to hit the lightly dozing Namjoon in the face with the sweet.
The girl who had helped Neville earlier had stopped by at some point and reminded them to change into their school robes, which they did with little complaint.
By the time they were struggling into the rickety little boats that were supposed to carry them to the school, Seokjin would say that he had a relatively solid understanding of the two other boys and would happily call them both friends.
Their boat ended up being only the three of them, since Seokjin was sitting next to Namjoon, and Yoongi just glared at anyone who dared approach him.
And when their boat rounded the bend in the lake and the entirety of the castle became visible, Seokjin had to grudgingly give it to his dad; Hogwarts was pretty cool.
It also gave him a good chance to study Namjoon’s dimples as he took in the sight.
On the other hand, the castle quickly lost points once they were off the boats and were lined up to enter the castle. Seokjin promised himself he would apologize to Namjoon later for the bruises on his arm and the ringing in his ears, when he screamed and latched onto the boy as the ghosts came through the wall to observe the First Years.
He wouldn't be holding his breath for Yoongi’s apology for the scratches on his and Namjoon’s backs from the same incident, though. He was just grateful the other boy didn't rip their school robes in his fright.
When the bustling of the students died down and they were finally ushered into the Great Hall, Seokjin was only mildly surprised to hear it was going to be a hat that was sorting them into their respective houses. His father did mention that the sorting process wasn't going to be anything taxing or painful, unlike what the rumors implied.
What he was surprised with was the hat’s singing. But before they knew it, names were being called and one by one the students sat down on the stool, and when their houses were announced, went to their respective tables.
It was only when Professor McGonagall called, “Kim, Namjoon,” that Seokjin realized he was still clinging onto the other boy’s arm.
He quickly let go, but automatically straightened Namjoon’s robes before backing off and letting the boy make his way to the center of the hall.
It was a few long minutes before the crease in the hat opened and called, “ Slytherin !”
Seokjin was probably the only unsorted student who was clapping along with the students at the green table. Yoongi rolled his eyes at his antics, but he didn't pay the spoilsport any mind. He wanted to show his support. Namjoon was still his first friend at Hogwarts, after all.
And he knew to appreciate Mario.
He didn't have too much time to cheer, since as soon as Namjoon was seated, a sharp call rang for, “Kim, Seokjin.”
Seokjin quickly made his way over, only pausing to smile shakily at Yoongi.
Once seated, the hat was quickly settled over his head, obscuring his view of the hall.
“Ha! Not too keen on Hogwarts, are you? Well, can't say this is a first, but definitely not something I've seen all too often,” he heard the hat’s voice in his head.
“I’m sorry. If it's any consolation, I wouldn't have been happy with any wizarding school.” He hoped he hadn't hurt the hat’s feelings… did hats have feelings? Surely a singing one would have some level of sentience.
The hat chuckled, “No harm done, child. You didn't want to leave your friends, isn't that right? It's good to see one with a level of conscientiousness. Now where to put you, hm?”
Seokjin didn't know what to say, but he thought of Namjoon and Yoongi. He didn't care where he ended up, but they were his friends and since he’d decided it, he was going to keep them. So it didn't really matter which house he was in, he was going to make it work.
“A tenacious one, aren't you? Keeping friendships between houses won't be an easy task. It will mean a lot of hardships.”
Seokjin shook his head slightly. He didn't care. He knew it was going to be hard work from the beginning. Yoongi even warned him.
“So be it. In that case, better be-”
“ Hufflepuff !” The hat called out.
He quickly took off the hat and gingerly placed it back on the stool. As he was making his way over to the Hufflepuff’s table, he tried catching Namjoon’s eye, but the other boy was staring hard at the plate in front of him.
‘What's wrong with him,’ Seokjin wondered. He kept trying to get Namjoon’s attention until he heard Yoongi’s name being called.
“Min, Yoongi.”
It would be a lie to say he wasn't shocked when the hat barely touched Yoongi’s head before calling out, “ Huffepuff !”
Yoongi frowned the whole way over to Seokjin. It was much less shocking when he all but shoved over a boy already seated next to Seokjin to make room for himself.
Seokjin debated apologizing to the other Hufflepuff, Justin Finch-Fletchley, but gave that idea up when Yoongi crowded his personal space to squint aggressively in his face.
“We have a problem.”
“Yeah. You've killed my personal space bubble. Please back off, Yoongi. I can't take you seriously when you're this close.”
Yoongi did sit back a bit, but his squint was all the more intense, “This is all your fault.”
“Wait, what's the problem exactly?” He thought about what Yoongi said for a moment and added, “And how is it my fault?”
“Why the hell am I in Hufflepuff!”
“How should I know? Wait, was that a rhetorical question?”
“That wasn't a question. This is me explaining the problem to you. I am here. That's not suppose to happen. The only reason I went along with this whole thing was to look out for Namjoon. You don't understand. I don't care how many tests say he's a certified genius, that idiot is a fucking dumbass. I can't watch his sorry ass if I'm stuck over here!”
“You know, it's probably thoughts like that that landed you in Hufflepuff.”
“What?”
“Weren't you listening to the hat?”
“It’s a fucking singing hat!”
“Well, it was singing for a reason! Hardworking and loyal, Yoongi. Those are the traits of Hufflepuff. You were probably all worried about Namjoon. No wonder the hat sorted you so quickly.”
Yoongi stared at him for a minute before uttering a very vehement, “Fuck!”
Seokjin was just about to bring up Yoongi’s unnecessary excess use of expletives again when all around them loud excited whispers broke out. He and Yoongi looked around in confusion before he caught the Macmillan kid saying, “Is that really Harry Potter?”
He turned just in time to see the dark tuft of hair on a small figure disappear under the sorting hat.
“Huh,” he said, mostly to himself, “I forgot he was starting school this year.”
“Who's that? Is he famous or something? They were making a big fuss about him earlier on the train.”
“Oh, yeah. I forgot you and Namjoon aren't from around here.”
“So, he's famous?”
“That's an understatement. I'll tell you guys later. Now, about Namjoon, I don't think you're giving him enough credit. The hat put him there for a reason. I'm sure he'll do fine.”
“You have no idea. He’s known as the God of Destruction back home for a reason.”
“Okay. You're going to have to tell me the story behind that later, but what are you so worried about. He still has us. We’re just in different houses, not planets.”
Yoongi gave him a blank stare, “You sure he knows that?”
Seokjin eyes widened in surprise, “What? Yes! He should — I mean — we were…”
He looked over at the Slytherin table where Namjoon was clearly ignoring them.
Seokjin felt his whole face pinch into what he could only assume was an expression of complete and utter dismay.
“That fucking dumbass!”
Yoongi reached over and patted him on the back, “Welcome to the club.”
And so it was that while the rest of the student body began to belt out Hoggy Warty Hogwarts , Seokjin occupied himself by glaring holes into the back of Namjoon’s head. Yoongi was seemingly too busy judging the entire British wizarding world to sing along with everyone.
Dinner came and went, and the students were told to follow the prefects to their dormitories. Seokjin couldn’t help but feel an odd sense of emptiness while taking in the sight of Namjoon as he continued to avoid looking at the two of them.
This simply would not do.
As a public service announcement, it should be noted that two very determined Hufflepuffs on a mission were a terrifying sight to behold.
It took one week and several hours of stalking later, but Yoongi and Seokjin were finally able to corner Namjoon. Although, they had a slight hitch in their plans when one of the Slytherins, a Theodore Nott, had taken it as a personal slight that two seemingly inoffensive first-year Hufflepuffs had the gall to attempt to abscond with one of his housemates. The entire thing came to head in an unfortunately public setting.
One thing was made readily clear from the encounter: Pureblood children were not often faced with good-old, physical threats in a schoolyard confrontation.
What Yoongi lacked in physicality, he made up for in pure, rage-fueled ferocity. He fought like a berserker with nothing to lose.
Seokjin, being a loyal and conscientious friend, made sure to hold onto Yoongi’s wand and cloak for safekeeping as Yoongi single-handedly destroyed all preconceptions about House Hufflepuff in one vicious swoop, colorful profanity and all.
Fortunately, the incident was largely swept under the rug by both parties present, mainly due to mutually assured shame.
The Hufflepuffs were simply not ready to have their peaceful reputation so utterly tarnished, while the Slytherins simply couldn't admit defeat to the badgers, and first years no less.
And, yet, despite the embarrassment from the entire fiasco, Namjoon remained mulishly doubtful of the sincerity of their friendship. It took some effort on Seokjin’s part not to allow Yoongi to beat some sense into their idiot friend, but the time of violence was over. Also, Seokjin wasn't really sure how effective the physical persuasion would be with someone who actually grew up with Yoongi.
He mentioned as much to his still fuming housemate, and Yoongi responded with a loud, “Well, you talk to him! I'm out!”
Yoongi emphatically grabbed both his robe and wand back from Seokjin and proceeded to storm away, leaving in his wake a hallway full of petrified Hufflepuffs, not all of whom were first years.
Seokjin took Namjoon’s momentary distraction by Yoongi’s dramatic exit as a good opportunity to take him by the hand and drag him away to a more secluded area. They ended up in an empty classroom, where Seokjin immediately shoved Namjoon into a chair and all but sat on him to get him to stay.
He made a point to look directly into the taller boy’s eyes as he spoke, “Namjoon, listen to me, okay? I'm not smart like you, and I don't have a way with words like you, so don't expect anything fancy, but you are going to listen to what I have to say. Understood?”
Namjoon nodded at him, probably shocked silent by his forward approach.
“You asked me to tell Yoongi that I was your friend when we were on the train, remember?”
Namjoon nodded again, blushing slightly at the reminder.
“I have to admit, I probably didn't really mean it at the time, because you know, that's a weird request and all. But, after you left, you know what Yoongi told me?”
Namjoon shook his head.
“He said that being your friend was a hassle. And he's right. You are a problem and a half, Namjoon. You're stubborn, too smart for your own good, and without enough common sense to figure your way around people. Your family is going to hate my guts, probably more than they do Yoongi’s. And you don’t even have the decency to appreciate this.”
Namjoon only stared at him. Seokjin continued before the other boy could process his words enough to be hurt.
Seokjin smiled and released...
… a breath he didn't realized he was holding.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, how long he had been lost in memory.
It was good, he thought to himself.
Not always, of course, but it had been really good. He was lucky to have them, his friends. They were all stupid, idiot goof-balls, but they were his, and he wouldn't change any second of it even knowing the end. It was probably him being naive, but Seokjin couldn’t work up the slightest doubt that it had all been worth it.
He got to say good-bye, even.
Who knew how many were lucky enough to get even that. He wanted more, though. He wished he had said something to Yoongi and Jimin before running off, but at least he was sure Yoongi understood. And the younger boys, Merlin, he hoped they were all okay. But, Taehyung and Hoseok weren’t even in a house with anyone else.
Please, please, please, don’t let them do anything stupid.
At least with Jungkook, Seokjin was certain that Namjoon wouldn’t have run off without making sure the youngest in their group was safe.
And, Namjoon. Seokjin bit his lips as he tried to ignore the pangs of guilt. He never intended to break his promise.
Maybe someday Namjoon will forgive him.
Special thanks to allourheroes for cleaning up my writing mess.

Fanfiction with Alecto and Bella on that undercover mission, please??
Alecto handed a small vial to Bellatrix who pinched her nose in response.
“There’s no way I’ll drink that.” She pointed with her finger.
“Bellatrix, that’s only polyjuice. It won’t kill you.” Alecto rolled her eyes when the other witch stamped her foot on the floor like a child.
“It’s not because you allow disgusting fluids to run down your throat that I will.” She crossed her arms. “Whose hair are in these anyway?”
Alecto laughed because she knew this would be a lost cause. “Arthur and Molly Weasley’s.” Bellatrix opened her mouth in shock. “I’m only following orders, Bellatrix. We need to enter that bar as members of the Order.”
Bellatrix dramatically acted shocked again. “And??”
“Anyway, I’m not willing to fail this mission and die.” Alecto opened the vial and ingested the liquid in one sitting, not even acknowledging how disgusting this must have been.
“Are your interiors so rotten that this actually tastes normal to you?” Alecto laughed but she was quickly shut as her skin started to extend and transform.
Her hair turned into a dirty ginger as she shrank.
Bellatrix spoke in a high-pitched tone. “Oh no there’s no way I’ll inflict that upon myself!”
Alecto, now fully turned, laughed with malice. The one precisely that belonged to Molly Weasley. “And here I thought Narcissa was the delicate sister.”
“Very funny.” Bellatrix took the potion from her hands and made sure it broke into dozens of pieces on the hard floor.
Alecto took her wand out and turned it into Molly’s before directing it at the dark witch. “What the bloody hell?”
Bellatrix grinned. “There’s a simpler way for me.” She grabbed her wand from her robes and modified its shape just like Alecto had done seconds before. It did not look like Arthur’s though, she could tell that.
Bellatrix pointed the wand to her head which lightened slightly. It was now closer to dark chocolate than raven black. Her usually unruly curls straightened so her hair was only slightly wavy. She made herself look slimmer and now wore a a long light dress with no corset.
Alecto’s jaw dropped. “You look just like…”
Bellatrix let out a strident laugh. “My dear sister?”
When she dramatically highlighted her new silhouette, Alecto rolled her eyes. “Fine. But how can we know she won’t be at the bar when we go there?”
“Like poor Andy would partake in politics and war. You truly don’t know her, dear.” She laughed in a gentler but controlled manner, close to Narcissa’s but not quite like hers either. “If anything, Alecto, she is the delicate sister.”
When they entered the bar, Bellatrix instantly covered her ears. “Do they want to impair our hearing with that music?”
Alecto laughed. She was used to these crappy places. During her rebellious adolescence she used to come to this very bar, though it took a liberal turn since then. That’s why she had been sent for this mission.
There were however no apparent sign of the Order’s presence. Bellatrix send her a questioning look. “They must be in the cellar.” The now ginger aimed at one door just beside the stage. “Shall we go through?”
Bellatrix shook her head and leaned in so Alecto could hear without having to shout it for her. “This is no suicide mission.” She turned her gaze to several men whose very poor acting was giving they away in their apparent mission to protect whatever meeting was happening down there.
Instead, Bellatrix discretely took a tiny thing out of her coat and let it fall on the floor. She was smirking and it made her look nothing like Andromeda Tonks. Alecto hit her ribs with an elbow and the other witch regained composure.
The tiny thing, Alecto wasn’t sure if it was magical or robotic, subtly made its way to the basement door and underneath where it vanished.
Alecto’s head turned to her partner in a sudden move. Bellatrix reassured her. “Don’t worry, it’s not magical. They won’t detect it.” Her white teeth were particularly showing in the dark when she grinned like that.
“Is this…is this muggle?” Bellatrix laughed before taking her hands and leading them to a free table.
“Who do you take me as? Of course it’s not!” Alecto breathed out. “It’s a living thing!” Her eyes opened wide. “A very rare species of lizards whose particularity is to be able to imprint immediate memory in great detail. It only takes a simple spell to extract it from their minuscule brain.”
They feigned small talk for a bit until the lizard found its way back onto Bellatrix legs and then in her coat. They were up to their feet when the cellar opened.
Alecto stilled when two men revealed themselves in the neon lights. They shook hands before separating.
Bellatrix grabbed Alecto by the arm in an attempt to lead her out of the bar but one of the wizards called after her. “Andy? Andy is that you?”
“Fuck…” Bellatrix breathed. Panic started to settle in. She had measured the probabilities her sister would find herself in such a shabby place but she had forgotten to consider her stupid husband’s whereabouts.
“What do we do?” Alecto whispered. “Do we run?”
Ted tonks was walking towards them and the interaction had alerted the guards who were now all observing the scene.
Bellatrix turned to the man. “Ted!” She tried to imitate her sister’s bubbly tone whenever she used to talk about the muggleborn.
When he reached them, he grabbed Bellatrix’s cheeks, well what he mistook for Andromeda’s cheeks, and planted a loving kiss on her lips. The dark witch suppressed the sudden urge to vomit.
“What are you doing here, honey?” He was surprised but seemed genuinely happy to see her.
Bellatrix shut her murderous impulses down. It wasn’t what she was best at but if she could risk dying now, she couldn’t take Alecto down with her. She actually respected the witch enough not get her harmed by her own personal issues.
“Molly and I were meeting for dinner tonight, remember?” Ted seemed perplexed but let her continue her little speech. “Well, we thought it would be…adventurous to change plans and come here instead.”
Ted laughed but caressed her cheek tenderly. “Babe, I thought we put your adventurous ideas on hold for the time being!” Ted touched her stomach and Bellatrix stilled. “And I told you we had an important meeting tonight with the Order. It could be dangerous. You wouldn’t want anything to happen to you or the baby now, would you?”
At least if Bellatrix threw up here and now it wouldn’t look too suspicious.
Alecto didn’t quite understand the extent of Bellatrix’s rage then but she was quick enough to notice she wasn’t in a state to play their little game anymore.
“You’re absolutely right! We should be going back to my house. If you’ll excuse us…” She grabbed Bellatrix by the arm. She was stopped by the wizard holding Bellatrix’s other arm.
He leaned in and Alecto prepared herself to take her wand out. Thankfully, he only kissed Bellatrix again. “Get home safely, ladies. We’re almost over with the meeting.”
Alecto nodded and had to practically drag Bellatrix out of the bar under the gaze of a growingly suspicious Ted.
She took them a few streets further, in an empty dead end. Alecto’s hair were starting to go back to their original colour.
Bellatrix spat on the ground dramatically. “Give me one reason to go back in there and not kill that filth! One!”
Alecto leaned on the wall to recover from what could have been their downfall.
“He. dared. kissing. me!” She tried to clean her tongue with the palm of her hand. “The dirty mudblood!” Quite frankly, she looked hysterical.
Alecto rolled her eyes before grabbing her shoulders. She was trying to still the other woman without big success.
“I can still taste him, Alecto!” Was she on the verge of crying right now?
“Here, let me help!” The witch brought Bellatrix to her lips and didn’t wait for consent to put her tongue in her mouth.
She should have known that she’d get slapped for it because she assuredly did. “I want to get rid of the traumatising nightmare of kissing my sister’s mudblood lover and you suggest I kiss Molly Weasley instead? Are you completely daft?” It seemed to have relaxed her though because she sounded playful now.
“Hey at least the woman’s a pure-blood.” They both burst out laughing.
Bellatrix pushed Alecto away until she was pinned to the brick wall. She didn’t lose time in bringing their lips together in a searing kiss, the kind the witch liked to give her after a particularly successful mission.
Soon the polynectar had vanished and she was back to her original form. Bellatrix groaned. “That’s much better.” Alecto smiled.
They were cut by men shouting a few streets away. “Secure the perimeter and stay on guard, we don’t know who and how dangerous they might be!”
“Fuck!” Bellatrix let out an exasperated breath. She detached Alecto from the wall and made them disapparate in a passionate kiss.

i want like your complete thoughts on snape aurora lmao
HONEYYOUVEGOTABIGSTORMCOMING.GIF
so id just like to say that when i read the harry potter books first time and the third time and the sixth time  i didn’t hate snape. i never loved him, but i thought he was a super interesting character bc he was like a triple agent and he made for some rly great story. like the #drama of snape killing dumbledore was an Iconic Event in book history. but it was after book 7 came out and i learned that people genuinely liked snape?? like sympathized with him and stuff????? then i started to HATE him because people’s reactions to him after deathly hallows were… ridiculous.
bc lemme tell u kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! re reading the series with the knowledge of snapes backstory and everything from the prince’s tale doesn’t explain/excuse like. any of snape’s actions in most of the books!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its just sooooo frustrating to me bc harry potter is a series about shades of grey. it’s not tolkien where the Bad Guy™ is the embodiment of Pure Evil and the other side is Pure Good. i mean here it is in plain text in ootp:
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
so like you have the Spectrum of Darkness with voldemort (p much the #1 spot on that scale), umbridge (also p high up there), fudge (who’s main sin is willful ignorance), and yeah i think even dumbledore would have a place on that scale. what im getting at is this: even though snape indisputably does some good things he can still be a totally shitty person. like, hes not voldemort but that doesnt mean hes a saint either. like the quote said,  maybe hes not Evil To The Core inside but he chose to act like a dick all of the time so that’s what i think he is. a dick. because even if he had this great love for lily inside him the whole time, i can only judge him on his actions. and his actions show that hes THE FUCKING WORST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its just. inconceivable to me how you can justify snape’s actions like. first of all he willingly joins a genocidal terrorist organization so. theres THAT LITTLE FACT THAT IS DIFFICULT TO OVERLOOK.
and i’ve read a lot of people “””justify””” that with two things. first is snape’s childhood/him growing up in a slytherin environment. like, almost saying ‘poor baby didnt know any better :((’ which is just like. completely ridiculous. for starters im not sure that anti-muggle ideology was forced on snape as a child. his father was a muggle, and although it’s made clear in the books that snape has a horrible relationship with both his parents, it doesnt really make sense for his mother to preach pureblood/wizard superiority to him if she herself married a muggle man. furthermore, snape grew up in a muggle neighborhood. as a child, he must have interacted with them with some frequency. and yet when he talks to lily as a child he is already sooooo dismissive of petunia because of her lack of magic which is like. pretty sociopathic if you ask me.
and like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he had lily!!!!!! as a friend!!!!!!!!!! for over five years!!!!!!!! he couldve learned from lily like. examples of love and friendship and equality!!!! he apparently LOVED lily!!!!!!!!! AND HE STILL DECIDES TO JOIN A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION WHOSE GOAL IS TO WIPE OUT HER KIND????? W H Y??
and it’s not like he’s draco whose parents were death eaters and voldemort was like “u must become a death eater or ur whole family will be murdered” (not like that i like draco lol). like if anything snape’s half blood status would be a deterrent to joining the death eaters. remember: his mother married a muggle. so he absolutely had a choice and CHOSE to join voldemort.
the second thing ive often heard people say is “but he changed his mind!!!” referring to when snape becomes a double agent for dumbledore. but like… is that even true????? did voldemort coming after lily make snape have an epiphany like “hold up… maybe … muggleborns dont.. deserve to die?? for being born???” i would like to point out that we NEVER get that confession from snape. EVER. we never hear him say like “i am with the order of the phoenix because i disagree fundamentally with voldemort’s anti-muggle ideology.”
the ONLY reason snape goes to dumbledore and becomes a double agent is because of his “””love”””” for lily. the only reason he stays a part of the order is to protect harry and maybe like get revenge on voldemort for killing lily. BUT HE COULDVE BEEN A MUGGLE HATER THE WHOLE TIME!!! LIKE FOR THE WHOLE BOOK SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!
and like what about befoRE snape turned on voldemort. he was part of the death eaters for YEARS. and he was considered part of voldemorts inner circle, his most trusted death eaters and like. you dont get into that circle by doing nothing. so i have to assume that snape did some fucked up shit! like killing muggles and muggleborns and shit! like! reminder that he WILLINGLY joined this organization!
like he truly did not give a shit about anyone lol. like when he comes to dumbledore to plead with him to save lily and dumbledore is like “what about her baby and her husband do u care about their lives at all” and snape straight up does not give a SHIT about harry and james. snape is totally fine with a BABY dying.
lemme say that a little louder for the people in the back: SEVERUS SNAPE IS TOTALLY AND 100% OKAY WITH AN INNOCENT BABY BEING SLAUGHTERED.
and this isnt just any baby. it’s lily’s baby. and if snape knew lily AT ALL (lily who was “uncommonly kind”) he would know that lily would love her child more than anything and prioritize her child’s life above her own. but snape is just like “i dont care if her child and husband are murdered as long as shes fine lol” like…. okay????????? lily would literally hate him if he did manage to save her instead of harry lol.
its just….. insane that he only gives a shit when voldemort comes after someone he personally cares about. like. he was fine with anyone else dying! thats cool that families are getting slaughtered no biggie! he only cared when it personally affected him which is…. disgusting. like hes morally BAD.
like contrast that to regulus who joined the death eaters around the same age as snape because of familial pressure but then when he got in and like saw what was going on and what they were doing he was like “this is fucked up i cant do this” and sabotaged voldemort. snape had no such conscience lol.
and lets say youre willing to overlook all of that (which, if thats the case… um…. how…) but for arguments sake lets say you are. /why/ is snape so mean to harry???????????????? because he looks like james???? thats a reason i gUess but not an excuse like. he bullies a child for YEARS because harry looks like his teenage rival?? oh my goD snape is such a huge baby i cant even desCRIBE.
and /why/ is he so mean to NEVILLE???? WHAT DID NEVILLE EVER DO TO HIM?? ? ? hes neville’s /worst fear/ !!!!!!!!!!!!! and hes HORRIBLE to hermione like HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its completely inexcusable…. he gets lupin FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LUPIN WHO STRUGGLES TO HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR FOOD BECAUSE HES A WEREWOLF OH MY GOD I HATE SNAPE SO MUCH. I HATE HIM. I HAAAATEEEE HIM.
tl;dr: snape is a giant man baby who joined a genocidal terrorist organization of his own volition and then only switched sides when it personally affected him and then even when he was “”good””” he continued to act like a total asshole.
