With the Opening Ceremony going off the rails for a second time, MC is more than eager to get back home and probably binge-watch their stress away with their emotionally-repressed boys.

Though with the current situation right now, they don't think that will be happening soon.. Oh well, at least they're not the only otherworldly outlier here... *Nightbringer flashbacks intensifies*

On the other hand, Yuu makes a new friend.

Yuu doesn't know if this makes them a problematic person or not, but Yuu is happy that there's someone else in a similar predicament as them in this strange world, even if it meant that their new companion also had to be kidnapped by a problematic school/lowkey-highkey a cult to be here as well.

But of course, there's trouble in the horizon as the whole fiasco in the mirror ceremony caused the students of NRC to keep a close and careful gaze onto the MC. I'm talkin' from but not limited to; The Fish Mafia, Queen of hearts and Evil queen Incarnates, even down to your perfectly normal 500+ year old war-veteran that looks like a child.

Azul straight up grins he can see Schoenheit's smile and Kingscholar's shit-eating smirk from here, as well as hear Shroud's maniacal giggles when Riddle screeches at the student to just cooperate and that "NO WE ARE NOT A CULT!!!!" "That's what cults always say!"

Prompting a round of laughter from the useles– *ehem* new students in the hall. How annoying..

What an amusing lad.. Though, Azul wonders.. can all his other jewelry transform as well? Besides the earrings, choker, necklace and forehead ornament that he's wearing, the student also has a ring in his middle finger and in both of his ring fingers, a wide bracelet, and even some bangles in his ankles.

And if all of those jewels can transform into something?....Ohhh, then he really needs to get his hands on them asap.

Seeing Lilia gearing up to jump the student, Azul shifted a bit and tried to lead the student closer to Lilia.

Riddle is about to combust, Leona wants to go back to bed only to be dragged back by the headmaster—, Vil wants his beauty sleep but was dragged back by that petty bitch, Leona—, While Idia and Azul decided to stick around for their own personal reasons. While Yuu is.. hiding behind the mirror.

Hi Gina!! Sorry for diverting from the topic, but can you please tell me why people are so repulsed by Eleanor? I'm not exactly new here and I've been through the threads about her problematic behaviour during the early days like calling fans names and the whole racist bit she did with her friend (I personally took extra offense to that as an Indian woman) but I also think that she was very young back then and people do stupid shit when they're in their early twenties and don't always apologize for it even when they know better later (not an excuse, just saying that it was a long time ago).

Now I'm not saying that she's for sure a better person now or whatever, I wouldn't know honestly as I don't follow her. But I found her alright during Elounor 2.0 (I joined in 2021) like she posted him sometimes (gave good content honestly), they got papped here and there, when he toured she attended a couple shows. It was all quiet lowkey and straightforward as far as I know (except for the whole airport arrest scandal).

I also struggle with the idea of hating someone just because they're a beard (though a lot of those people end up exhibiting toxic traits seperate from the arrangement), because for that person it's a job/opportunity to further their career, they're not the ones closeting or oppressing the closeted artist. If not her than it would've been someone else just as easily.

I guess my question is, did I miss something here, did she do something during the last few years that warrants such hate? Or is it mostly because of her earlier problematic behaviour + the fact that she was a beard at all?

I ask because I think comparing her to OW (the most horrible ever) might be a bit excessive based on my current knowledge of her.

I don’t actually know anyone “repulsed” by her. She was hated in the first incarnation of Elounor—in part because some things she supposedly did that were racist/mean. But I think most of it has to do with how miserable Harry and Louis always looked and how she was used as a tool to keep them in line (which was the label/management’s doing).

I think there was this overall perception during the band years that she enjoyed upsetting Harry and that she had done some shitty things to him. Plus, there was a general consensus that her presence was emblematic of their closeting. So when they broke up in 2015 not long after all the craziness of 2014 and the big gay war, fans were really hopeful it was a good sign.

Of course, then we got party boy Louis and babygate. So, be careful what you wish for.

Elounor 2.0 was very different. Louis seemed to be in control of things this time and he looked far less miserable (although not exactly thrilled) and she was so low-maintenance as a beard. Other than the fucking E tattoo that he was forced to talk about incessantly (along with “me little lad” nonsense) in 2017, she basically made a few posts and showed up for a few shows and walked the dogs. She didn’t bother me in the least.

as promised, here it is: The Big Life Update Post (aka m where the hell have u been and what the hell is going on with this blog)

TLDR: went thru it, came out better for it, i love y'all. and we're getting back into this writing thing as i have the time and capacity 🥳

2023 has been a bit of a whirlwind, to put it very mildly. while the first three months started off relatively smoothly, my saturn return began in the middle of march. only a few short weeks after that... well, i'd basically say everything went off the fucking rails.

content warning: drama talk incoming ft. extremely brief mentions of racism and racist hate mail (no specific details shared).

i haven't spoken on this yet since everything happened, and i want to be explicitly clear that i won't be speaking on it further after this post. but i just want you to understand where i've been at since april.

i will own it entirely and say: i fucked up. i put content in a story that i shouldn't have, that i had no business speaking on, and i think people were well within their right to call me out on it, one hundred percent. however, after i went offline at the end of april, my friends ended up learning that the person who initially stirred up all of the "tea", and submitted the first several anonymous posts about me to a hate blog, was actually someone i knew well and considered a friend.

this was someone whose stories i gladly beta'd, someone i consoled through multiple hard moments in their life, someone i actually even met in person. yep. this was also someone who had read the chapter of my story that featured the problematic content when it was released, and proceeded to send me paragraphs upon paragraphs of how much they enjoyed it, and the story as a whole. this is not to say that people can't change their minds on content after sitting with it, not at all. but to think that i had been through so much with this person, done so much to be there for them, and that they never once gave me any reason to think we were anything other than close friends. yet ultimately, they didn't feel they could come directly to me... or find quite literally any other way of dealing with the issue?

instead, they chose to send multiple messages about me to a hate blog, as well as hateful anons to several of my friends, thinking that we wouldn't know it was them (we did). not only that, but their actions encouraged an actual torrent of racist hate mail to be sent to all of my non-white friends who publicly chose to support me. ultimately, they ended up admitting all of this, and still, they never once apologized or showed even a single iota of remorsefulness or responsibility for the onslaught of vitriol they incited. (even though, you know, this whole thing was supposedly about how racism is bad.)

and this user is still on the platform, operating under a new blog name and pseudonym. so. that's fun. 💀

i don't say this to beat a dead horse, or to drum up sympathy, because i promise i don't want it. it's been long enough, i understand the mistakes i made, and i've done my part to take accountability for my actions. but i needed to start this post here to have you all understand where i was at the end of april - just in time for yoongi's tour 🤪 - in many ways, i felt like i had no friends, at least none that i could really trust. i felt unsure who might have been acting one way to my face, perhaps even praising me, but talking different about me behind my back. and it was beyond fucking nervewracking to think that i would be meeting so many friends IRL for the first time, quite literally days after what essentially felt like a public execution.

i wasn't doing well, to say the least.

and then... the funniest thing happened.

y'all showed the fuck up for me. in droves. in a way that i have quite literally never experienced in my lifetime and doubt i ever will again. even recounting it now is lowkey giving me chills. i received, literally, yes i counted, hundreds of DMs from the most incredibly kind people- on tumblr, on twitter, on discord, in AO3 comments. the vast majority of you wrote paragraphs: about what my stories have meant to you, about how you found my blog to be a safe space in the noise of the world, about how much you'd enjoyed our time together here. so many of you said something along the lines of "even if you never come back here again, please keep writing". honestly, for like a week straight all i could do was read my DMs and cry and cry and cry.

i didn't receive a single hateful DM. not one.

as if that alone isn't more blessings than i deserve in an entire lifetime, i also, you know. saw five shows of agust d on tour. (my credit card is still recovering.) spent two of the best nights of my life in pit getting a water bottle baptism and screaming myself hoarse. and met dozens of incredible moots, who held me when i cried, scream-laughed with me, and of course, drank plenty of booze with me.

at a time where i wondered to myself if i even had a single true friend in this fandom (or, like, in the world), you all showed me that i had so much more. that we had so much more-- we had a community. and i believe we still do. and i am more than ready to block out all the shit that doesn't matter and get back to having some fun around here.

in short: thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. if you sent me a sweet word, i promise you, i read it (and probably cried lmao). i wouldn't be doing any of this without you. i will never ever deserve all the love that you have shown me. but for as long as you'll have me, i'd love to have a fun stupid horny time in this little corner of the internet. as a part of our community. what a fucking gift it is. 🫶

phew. okay, so- that was april and may. it's november. what the fuck happened?

i knew i wanted to properly take time to get my head on straight before i found my way back to writing. what i wasn't expecting was to 1. fall in love, 2. get a new job, and 3. move myself and my cat approximately 800 miles across the country... but yeah, since the end of may, those 3 things are exactly what i've been doing!

i won't talk too much about my partner here, because our relationship is important enough to me that i want to keep it largely private, but my god. he is the most incredible human. i can't tell you how much of what i wrote out as silly little daydreams in my fanfiction has somehow manifested itself into this very real human being (like, it's kinda crazy lmao 🙈). i'm grateful for him every single day. and what makes it even more special is that we met for the first time in person while i was traveling for yoongi's tour - yep! he saw me going through so much upheaval, and fell for me all the same. just another thing i will never fully believe i deserve. but goddamn do i feel luckyyyyy 🥰

and in addition to my amazing partner (and in part because of him but honestly i had plans to move before i had even met this man it just happened to work out okay ��) i have also finally managed to do what i've been planning for the last year and a half, which is move my ass out of the southern suburbs where i'd been for nearly a decade, and to a ✨walkable city that actually has public transit✨ - what a fucking dream. i may have only been here 8 days, and i may not have much more to my name than my cat, my TV, and my mattress, but i swear to god, i've never been this happy in my entire life.

so yeah. exhale. like i said, it's been quite the year.

now i do want to end this with a small caveat, which is to say, i can't make a promise as to how much i can *be* here (particularly not compared to how terminally online i used to be lmao). i spent a lot of time online because i was unhappy and feeling very stuck with where i was in life, and i needed escapism, bad. now, i've finally gotten to a place where i'm excited to go out of my house and do things, but i still want to make intentional time for tumblr as a form of connection and community, and writing as a form of creative expression. these things are really important to me!!! i just ask that you give me some grace if i'm a little slow on the uptake. i promise i'm still here 🥰

and writing is gonna happen!!! i can't say much more than that, because tbh i haven't so much as opened a google doc since april, but i've been itching to get back to it. maybe.... we might start off....... with some........... drabble requests??? 👀 we'll see we'll see we'll see hehe.

Hey Guys! So recently I’ve seen a few things regarding Romani Dick Grayson, and how his comic portrayal is lowkey racist and a bit problematic. In this universe Im creating, I would like to keep his hematite as Roma/Romani, however I want to go about it in a positive way that can serve to accurately portray the culture, or at least a small portion of it, in a representative way. I want a character that people can see themselves reflected in, rather than a caricature of the culture. That being said, I am still a white American and google can only get me so far, so if anyone knows of any good resources I can look into, or anyone that would be willing to work with me on this, that would be fantastic.

(This is also not limited to just Dick Grayson, if there are any other characters you want to see accurately represented, feel free to reach out to me about those too. I don’t have Duke’s experience as a black man, or Barbara’s in a wheelchair, but these characters all mean so much to me and I want to show them off as the badasses they are, while not taking away from the things that make them unique. I want diversity in stories, but not just for the sake of diversity. Kids and adults deserve to have characters they can see themselves in. Not everyone is a straight white man. Steph is someone I relate a lot to, so most of my characterization of her is me projecting a bit, and I want to give other people that opportunity as well. Sorry for the rant, but I hope this reaches the right people.)

bakugo & kaiser — as much of a disaster as it sounds to have these two together… i think they might actually pick each other. neither of them WANTS to pick ANYBODY ofc but given that they have to, i think they'd both want to go with someone they know will help them win. as ridiculous as they believe the whole thing is, they still don't wanna lose LOL and who better to go with than the other insanely competitive blond guy?? they'll get along just long enough to make it work

oikawa & jean — oikawa also wants to win and lowkey so does jean so i think they'd try to team up. they have serious beef with team bakukaiser and want to crush them by any means necessary so they'll try to stop bitching at each other and work together

belphie & tanjiro — belphie is not overly excited about this activity and is sort of quietly hoping that he'll be able to get out of it somehow but then tanjiro approaches like "belphie! would you like to be my partner?" because he sees him all alone and belphie can't so no because tanjiro is so nice oaifjidsofj he's also strong af which will balance out belphie's lazy ass (tho tanjiro's encouragement actually convinces belphie to put in effort)

megumi & vash — this duo is entertaining yet somewhat cute in my mind. megumi's another one who's not really actively trying to seek out anyone in particular and vash is happy to just sort of go wherever, so they end up as a team when vash asks. they aren't half bad either once they get coordinated.

suga & umemiya — and last but not least: the Fathers. they're both just happy to be here and are waiting to see who might need a partner at the end. they're used to kinda being the mediators and dealing with the more… problematic individuals, but are pleased to see that everyone else has managed to pair up already, so THEY get to team up in the end!! it's a refreshing change of pace for them to not have to wrangle brats for once but they're still keeping an eye out from a distance

and the winners???? lowkey my heart kinda wants to say sakura and toji for some reason. i feel like they sorta need it LOL like it would be a little healing for them, especially as individuals who are used to fighting tooth and nail for everything, particularly against others who have more power/privilege. i think they managed to strategize and coordinate well for this one.

the thing is that he was never private, he just liked to pretend to be. People wouldn’t know which friends to look at if he was truly private. And, while her and her friends are awful, it isn’t them posting about any of this. It’s all him and his side. He really is a totally different person than I thought he was less than a week ago.

I think he was always a private person; I don't think knowing their friends' names is evidence of him not being private. The GP doesn't know them, and it's normal that fans know these types of things. He doesn't post about his life every single day; he didn't parade with Minka or Jenny; you saw them out since they were a normal couple, but he wasn't posting about either of them or their relationships, and Minka wasn't the most lowkey person either.

I think it's really telling that Chris's friends are selling the whole marriage narrative, while hers are relatively silent. I think it's probably because all of her friends are problematic, and after everything that came out about them, I think they think it's better to not worsen the situation by letting them drop breadcrumbs.

I think if this was something real and true, this whole baiting and breadcrumbing wouldn't even happen; they probably wouldn't even announce it, but maybe Chris would've called her his wife. Obviously, for this, he should at least mention her in an interview or something like that, which he never does, so...

If Chris is in a normal and loving relationship again, it's going to be nothing like this. No baiting, trolling, or breadcrumbs. They're going to be private and won't feel the need to sell their "relationship".

What the fuqq happened with Chasing You 2 update??? Like why the guys were horrible as hell? I didn't expect that scene with Sam like why the fuqq Ursa had to make him a lowkey weirdo? He's the decent one out of the dudes, along with Ellia. And Erza is basically Tedros from The Idol lmaooo. Hell, the whole book feels like The Idol set in Victorian Era. Like what the fuqq? After the progress in S1, CY series went back to square one but worse than CY1. I want to like CY2 but after the update, I can't even bring myself to finish it.

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Unfortunately, because like you said, CY2 was off to a good start. But now we're back to the same old bullshit.

At least Ezra is supposed to be a problematic villain LI, but literally all guys were weird and off-putting in this update in some way.

As for Ezra, it's the fact that there is no option to disagree with him or judge him is what annoyed me the most.

The way he kept 'complimenting' MC by diminishing other women in that party, and at no point was there even an option for the player to voice or feel sympathy for the sex workers. Or say that no, actually, doing sex work does not mean the woman is dumb or useless. There's a difference between a character (Ezra) holding misogynistic ideas, and the story itself essentially endorsing them. And unfortunately, it was the latter. This shit really irked me.

Giving you a character: Billy, of course. :p

Of course, Billy Hargrove was to be expected :D

How I feel about this character: I have strong and complicated feelings about this character. He's a bad boy, the kind of guy I would have absolutely hated in high school but also the kinda guy who would not be boring at least. :D He's loud and obnoxious and parties like an animal, but his taste in music is impeccable (I love rock and metal and music from the 80's and I will not take criticism for that). He's got pretty eyes (that curly mullet is... well, let's say, H&M did it better <3), a nice body and a great fashion sense (denim-on-denim and leather jackets ftw) and he drives a Chevrolet Camaro from '79 like a madman. He can also be pretty funny when he wants to be, ridiculous even. So, what's not to like really? :P

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I mostly ship him with Steve, Eddie and Argyle (the last two are totally crack and fanon but who gives). I think Billy and Heather could've been hot, more than friends, maybe even friends-with-benefits if not an actual couple. Just sayin'. I've seen some great headcanons, maybe even fanart of Billy and Chrissy and I think, you know, the princess and metalhead setting could've worked with them, too.

As for my most 'problematic' Billy ship, I actually really like Billy and Hopper. There's this whole daddy kink thing involved I suppose. Lowkey my favorite crackship Ted and Billy as well. :P I'm also very supportive of Billy and El in general, I think the actors had great chemistry in s3 and I can see why some ship them, so I suppose I lowkey ship them (in spirit), too.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Though I ship Billy and Heather romantically, I also love seeing them as 'gay besties', supporting each other and protecting each other. It's one of my favorite headcanons in this fandom. Same goes for Chrissy I suppose, if not romantically involved.

Though Billy had his issues with Max, maybe even than beyond just normal 'sibling-ship', I still enjoyed their relationship a lot. It's clear that they spent a lot of time together (whether they actually hated it or not), and that they deeply cared for each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character: The majority of the fandom seems to think (or at least acts like) Billy is the worst character in the show and at least used to actively bully and harass Billy fans and shippers (his actor got his fair share of that also I hear). Though Billy was definitely not the nicest character or even particularly 'goody-good' (he was a bully and quite shitty at times actually), acting like he's worse than Dr. Brenner, for example, is bullshit. We clearly did not watch the same show.

Also, for other Billy fans... He might be your baby, but he's not an actual baby. He's not really your son or child and you don't need to 'protect' him from the haters who can't separate fiction from reality (just block them) or tw/anti Karen or any other character you don't like in favor of Billy (you're no better). Billy can also be shipped with characters other than Steve (male or female, older and younger, even self-inserts) and just because you don't like it, doesn't make the ship automatically 'problematic'. It just means there are people out there who like different things than you and you need to learn to suck it up and look away. It's for the best.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. That Billy wouldn't have faced such gruesome death. He wasn't a good guy, but he didn't deserve to die, especially so young. I also wish we could've seen what really happened between him and Max between seasons 2 & 3 because clearly their relationship improved there. Such wasted potential.

Hello!!🫶 I’m the anon who inquired about Namgyu fans - or at least a subset of them - defending his actions. Glad to know you agree - your response was worth the wait dw <3 As a matter of fact; I have a lot more to say, so to continue the conversation: I think it has something to do with the "purity" culture which seems to have invaded online spaces, especially those that pertain to fandom, in recent times. There have been an influx of people - whom I assume mostly are minors with little to no experience in navigating conversations and discussions with strangers online - especially on nuanced topics - that constantly want to have the moral high ground. I blame this partially on the way it has become a trend to mob against an individual (whom might not even deserve it) to gain brownie points, and to make sure oneself won’t become the next target; and also on the way it has just become more acceptable to be straight up fucking rude on the internet - especially when said rudeness is disguised as criticism ("hope this helps!" <— I will shoot you with a gun)

The thing is, people becoming more observant of harmful behavior isn’t really a bad thing; more so it’s the way they go about it. BUT when it comes to partaking in discussion and overall participation in fandom spaces, these "rules" about what is deemed unacceptable and acceptable in fiction are different! Like you simply cannot just claim the entire fanbase (consisting of real life people just trying to enjoy their free time/ indulging in a hobby) of a show/character/ship to be "problematic" when the ethical standards being crossed are happening in FICTION.

Lowkey, that’s why when I stumble across a "Namgyu defender 2000" in the wild it only disappoints, but not surprises me. I can fully see the imaginary hoops and the mental gymnastics being done to jump trough them in my mind. Because it comes from a place of wanting to protect your dignity, and fear of being labeled something you’re not. Like I don’t think liking Namgyu makes you a misogynist despite the man in question possessing some very misogynistic qualities. But when those qualities itself are being defended (in an overall attempt to paint Namgyu in a more positive light) it of course plants that seed of doubt in a person then they come across a post trying to excuse his actions, and makes them wonder whenever the original poster actually just like him for being an interesting TV character, or if they genuinely don’t see a problem with him at all. And so it throws the rest of the Namgyu fans - the sane ones - under the bus.

I wish I could reach trough the screen, grab their hand, tell them to relax, and reassure them that - no, relating to aspects of Namgyu does not mean the police will show up at your door. No, making fanart or Namgyu taking pills over Semi’s corpse will not get you swatted. No, writing fics about Namgyu prioritizing the drugs over his relationship with Thanos is not a one-way ticket to hell. At the end of the day Namgyu is lines on a paper played out by an actor on a filmset.

Plus, stripping him of all his antagonistic traits just makes him…what? just player 124. Just another nameless victim of capitalism. But Newsflash!! people can actually be assholes, or bullies, or sexists, or do objectively awful stuff for no good reason. They think that just because real-life Namgyus are bad people, they should not be acknowledged, and therefore an accurate fictional portrayal just can’t be allowed to happen (I’m sorry did that train of thought make sense?🙏🏻)

Like you said: ‘liking a ‘bad’ character is not indicative of anything at all’!! And I can only guess that a handful of the Namgyu defenders were taken by surprise of how much they liked him when they first watched the show. Then a crisis commenced because "people who behave like Namgyu are awful, but Namgyu isn’t awful to me, so 1 + 1 = 3 ‘cause I don’t want to get shit or feel guilty for liking an on-screen asshole with incel behavior" Again: being drawn to a problematic character is OKAY - Hell, in Namgyu’s case, the problematic aspects of him is what I find most compelling.

Maybe this is why he in particular is so heavily feminized (in addition to Gihun) Some people wipe the slate clean in order to make him more socially acceptable to admire, and heavily zero in on his physical features like the sweater paws, shirt skirt and cat-like face. (He does indeed look like doudou. Pls look up that cat on insta if you don’t know what it looks like - it’s very cute) While fictional men being feminized or babygirlified or whatever doesn’t really bother me, I will say that it seems rather excessive in the squid game fandom - even sometimes bordering on the fetishization of asian men :/ (I’ll also throw in that often the feminization of Namgyu only happens in favor of adding some form of heteronormativity to thangyu, rather than to explore any kind of gender identity)

We already follow two groups of characters that are presented as good natured, and are supposed to be sympathetic (-In-ho). Namgyu does not need to be empathized with, or excused, or "in actuality be misunderstood" for it to be acceptable to be a fan of him. Every story has good people, bad people and a cast of characters in all shades of gray in between. Namgyu belongs in the last category - specifically in the more darker shades. It is simply the role he plays in the story. There are no if’s, or what’s or but’s about it. Save all that for Ao3.

(And I just have to laugh when I see people who genuinely think he might have a chance at surviving. As if a clash between him and Minsu hasn’t been built up from the second it was revealed in the character trailers that they are 1 number apart. He will die in divine retribution. Good riddance, Namgyu! You may have been an insufferable piece of shit, but you sure made for good TV and a crazy lot of cool fanart)

This post is insanely long already so before i bid farewell I just feel like I need to bring up one more thing on the topic of defending Namgyu. This one applies to Thanos too (probably more on his part) - the double standards when it comes to the roles they and Myunggi play. Because Myunggi is severely flawed, and I can understand why Thanos and Namgyu continuously target him. He is the reason they’re in the games (although they didn’t want to leave so idk maybe they owe him their thanks jk), but personally I find it a little hard to fully sympathize with them because they are in/almost in their 30s and willingly bought into crypto damn well knowing the risk like its kind of embarrassing lmao. But the way some fans will write like LOTR length twitter threads on how much of a horrific and evil person Myunggi is and how he deserves to die, while in the same breath defend Thanos and Namgyu. Poke fun at the way they treat Minsu and just straight up ignore how Thanos said he was gonna make Junhee his "bitch" while Namgyu stood idly by giggling. Like come on. They can dislike MG Coin all they want - that’s not the issue - but bringing morals into it is definitely it a choice…

i see this a lot on twitter lol, with people debating the validity of the characters they like based on their actions within the show. i'll use young-mi as an example i guess because she is one of those characters that 100% did nothing wrong (i love young-mi).

a big part of the appeal for me is the fact that he's done bad stuff. i think he's interesting because of it, and it's fun to me personally to try and imagine how he would react to certain situations and how he'd clash with other people and characters based on the unpleasant way he acts. like that's what makes him him! erasing all that just seems so boring. becase then who even is that at that point? not nam-gyu! i'll see so many people completely change or ignore everything about nam-gyu's personality (which is chill and fun yk, i get it), but at that point i'm just thinking. why not just make an oc?? because now he's just a dude that kind of looks like nam-gyu with all of the traits that made him who he is taken away.

i understand what you were saying (at least i think i did)! so to reiterate to make sure that i actually did understand what u were saying (correct me if i read it wrong): if nam-gyu were to be a real life person and all of his actions occured in the real word ... so a guy that killed multiple people and was an asshole to basically everyone he encountered, it's obvious that he would, without a doubt, be labelled as a 'bad person!' now because a hypothetical irl nam-gyu would be labelled as bad person without a doubt, a lot of people feel that the nam-gyu that exists in the fictional world of squid game needs to have some sort of justification for what he did, that he shouldn't be allowed to be a piece of shit just for the sake of being a piece of shit, that he shouldn't be allowed to be a bad person just because he's a bad person, despite there being many people irl who are bad people for no reason other than the fact that they're bad people, therefore making a nam-gyu with No reasonable justification for his actions an accurate portrayal of said 'bad people' that exist in reality.

while i don't think nam-gyu is completely void of any humanity, he's definitely NOT a good person, either, and that's fine! he's a bad dude who did bad things, and that's not up for debate.

in the real world, there are bad people who have done shitty things for no good reason, and accurate portrayals of those types of people are allowed to exist in fiction (i'm speaking more in the general sense now). it's totally fine to theorize and come up with backstories and reasons if they don't exist in canon as to why a shitty character may act the way they do, but it's also important to be aware that you can do that while simultaneously not feeling like you HAVE to defend a character with your life, or that a reason / justification for a character's actions HAS to exist for you to be allowed to like them. you know??

one character that comes to mind (not at all comparing or directly relating him to nam-gyu, but just a character that i think is a good example of 'character who is a bad person just because he's a bad person') is jimmy from mouthwashing, if you happen to be familiar with that game. i'm not an expert on the game, but from what i remember, his character does a LOT of horrible, disgusting things, and there's not really a valid justification within the game for why he did those things. and that's fine. horrible people like that EXIST in real life. not everyone needs a defense or a sob story. sometimes people are horrible because they're horrible. characters like that should be allowed to exist and allow for an accurate portrayal of real life horrible people. can people come up with a backstory that gives reason to his actions and introduces more nuance to his character? yeah sure if they want; they're allowed to do that. but do people HAVE to do that to justify his character's right to exist? no. people don't HAVE to do anything. and this applies to every character ever.

mourning his death in advance LOLLL. he's my favorite, but yeah his ass is NOT SURVIVING!!!! i don't see a lot of the characters surviving with how the actors have been emphasizing the tragedy of season 3 LMAO. i'm excited to see season 3 so i can finally be at peace knowing the story has concluded and to see all the crazy shit that the director's been cooking up, and honestly more than anything i just want it to come and go already so people can watch it, get their final useless arguments in, and then MOVE ONNNN (either to different things or move on to a state of just enjoying the show in a chill, normal way without trying to fight for the moral high ground over others). also omfg i know it's the most obvious thing in the world, but idk how i managed to kind of gloss over the fact that they're 1 number apart LOL. like i've always known they were, but their close proximity is definitelyyy significant. however nam-gyu's (and maybe min-su's) death turns out, i know that it's gonna be interesting with all the build-up between their characters and the heavy emphasis the director placed on the drugs now in nam-gyu's possession. all i can say is FLY HIGH NAM-GYU!!! 🕊️🕊️🕊️

yesss doudou!!! i really enjoy all the cat comparisons that people make about nam-gyu, lol. i think it's silly. and yes yes yessssss ugh. i have a lot of thoughts about the whole feminizing nam-gyu thing, and i wholeheartedly agree with what you said here. feminizing male characters has been around forever, the 'babygirlificaton', and i'm not mad about that too much, because yeah, i get it, that's been a thing forever. i used to be a mob psycho fan, and reigen got that 100000x over LMAO. i'm used to seeing it, and i can see why people enjoy it and find it funny.

HOWEVER. i completely agree that it's rather excessive and a lot of people use it to kind of gloss over everything he did because 'oh well he's my little diva meow meow so who cares abt his shitty personality and all the shitty things he did in the show.'

also, as an asian person myself, i definitely do get a little iffy with how eager people are to feminize certain squid game characters and have that be the ONLY thing they talk about when it comes to said characters. and there is DEFINITELY something to be said about the heavy infantalization and feminization of asian men, which is something that has been happening for fucking forever. idgaf if it's just a show lol, nothing exists in a vacuum.

and it really does start to get to a point where i'm uncomfortable when it leaks into being weird towards the actors. i especially saw this happening towards roh jae-won, with people (from what i saw, they were mostly than//gyu shippers) posting pictures of him (not in character, just him walking around and living his life on his personal instagram) and calling him a 'twink', using aforementioned pictures as "evidence". LIKE...... idk! that's just weird as fuck to me, personally. i struggle to articualte my thoughts on this, but there's something very very off about how a lot of people talk about and infantalize male asian actors sometimes and i don't fw it lol.

ALSO YEAH LMFAO. the feminization of nam-gyu in tha//ngyu specifically is interesting to me. i would argue that his character is pretty masculine and even exhibits a lot of toxic masculinity, and i'd say that between the two, it's thanos who exhibits more femininity than nam-gyu does. however, nam-gyu is the shorter one AND he's got hair past his ears, so therefore, he is the chosen one in the mlm ship to be feminized and add that heteronormativity in lol. it just starts to look like this after a while:

idk it's just interesting to me how the feminization in squid game always comes in for the sake of shipping and seemingly for the sake of making a ship more 'palatable' and heteronormative. also briefly touching on what happens to gi-hun (within the context of in//hun), it's weird seeing people boil down everything about gi-hun to be nothing but in-hun's clueless, bumbling, ditzy babygirl. like where is that coming from??? idkkkkk ik it's not that serious, but it's definitely interesting to see

But the way some fans will write like LOTR length twitter threads on how much of a horrific and evil person Myunggi is and how he deserves to die, while in the same breath defend Thanos and Namgyu. Poke fun at the way they treat Minsu and just straight up ignore how Thanos said he was gonna make Junhee his "bitch" while Namgyu stood idly by giggling. Like come on. They can dislike MG Coin all they want - that’s not the issue - but bringing morals into it is definitely it a choice…

i hear you on this!!!!!!! and yes, it's totally fine to like any character you want for no reason other than you like them, so likewise you can hate / dislike any character you want for no reason other than you dislike them lol. i get annoyed whenever morality comes into these types of discussions and now all of a sudden people are debating on whose actions were more justifiable. WHO CARES. at that point, the conversation gotta end lmao. people always feel the need to be on the defense, and i'm tired of it. it's fine if you hate mg coin just for the sake of it. it's not necessary to bring up his actions in order to compare it to the actions of another character's to justify your hatred.

i don't really hate any characters. i'm chill with mg coin, but i definitely don't gaf about him as much as i do other characters. i like him, but he's probably near the bottom of my list just bc i like others more than him. i would also say that he's definitelyyy not the best person ever, but i definitely don't think he's evil lmao.

nottt gonna get into it, but i would even argue that mg coin's actions are much easier to rationalize than thanos or nam-gyu's..... 😃and yet, that doesn't affect the ranking of my favorite characters at all, because i don't choose my favorites based on the morality and ethics of their actions or whatever the fuck. i choose my favorites based on whether or not i enjoy them as a character LOL, which everyone should do without feeling like they need to defend their stance. IT DOESN'T MATTERRRR

tldr: your fav character doesn't make u any better or morally superior than anyone else because they were 'less evil' or made 'morally better choices' than another character. you don't have to defend your favorite if they suck ass. you are allowed to like characters that suck if that's your thing. people that suck for no justifiable reason exist irl and are allowed to exist in fiction, too. peace and love

personally I like sniperhaul as a platonic pairing, not least because i see them both as Gay In The Wrong Direction. like in my mind they're constantly bickering but also refuse to leave each others' sides for more than a day because they both went through the same shit. they don't even dislike each other they're just constantly lowkey fighting for no reason other than habit

Also like. opinions on Bakugo Mitsuki/Tsutsumi Kaina? both in the sense of 'how would these two very different adult women interact' and in the sense of bakugo "i'm gonna be the number 1 hero at all costs" katsuki having tsutsumi "the hero system is fundamentally corrupt and being a hero is shit actually" kaina

hey there! i've never received an ask on this blog before, from you or anyone else, as its only like two weeks old. congrats on being the first 🎉🎉 (if you did send me an ask before, then tunglr ate it)

honestly chisaki kai is one of those characters that i perceive as aroace, which is like fifty percent me projecting and the other fifty is vibes. so whatever pairing i put him in is closer to a queerplatonic relationship than anything else. this is honestly the case for all shipping i do because i'm very aromantic but it's not always on purpose. but i'm also a shameless multishipper and i think that there's no single most correct pairing or even a single correct interpretation of said pairing.

this is all to say i love your take on sniperhaul. i definitely imagine them as the kind of duo who are always being catty with each other. borderline just pure rude if it weren't for the fact that the reason why they can banter freely is because of how well they understand each others' boundaries.

i feel like i have seen kaina/bakugo's mom fics and went. h u h. if you have any recs then i'll definitely read them. i think i was looking for something specific at the time so i scrolled past but now that you bring it up again i'm definitely intrigued. in regards to my first impressions of the pairing though. to be honest there's not a lot of canon information on mitsuki. her personality is assumed to be basically just katsuki but more chill. however i also think that the mothers of feral anime boys deserve to be even more feral because after ren gyokuen from magi something in my brain chemistry was permanently changed. so i'm just going to take liberties here and write mitsuki a personality that's not just "bakugo katsuki's mom".

so its obvious that katsuki takes after her, and she seems to understand that a lot of his mannerisms come from her. so i think she was one hell of a teenager. her quirk basically makes her have flawless skin. mitsuki was the definition of it girl. sorry she can't answer the phone she's at a party. maybe she even hooked up with kaina in college. if you really want to drive the katsuki connection in hard, maybe she was even a bit of a mean girl. though i think she wasn't as problematic as katsuki because she didn't have people feeding her ego constantly in the same way. anyway this is all to say that i think mitsuki mellowed out a lot with age. but she definitely still has something of a youthful spirit leftover from her heyday. her skin can be a metaphor for that.

if mitsuki is a woman who has held onto her youth, kaina is a woman who lost her youth early on. the phrase 'old beyond her years' applies here. she doesn't know how to be a teenager anymore. she forgot. what is it like to not spend every night haunted by the lives she took with her own hands? she doesn't remember.

when they meet then mitsuki takes one look at kaina and tries to ask her out for a drink. it's a small thing, but slowly, kaina is relearning how to be a person and not a weapon. mitsuki is showing her how. and mitsuki can't really understand what makes kaina miserable, what makes kaina wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. but mitsuki can stay awake with her. she can hold her close and say. hey. you're more than whatever you see when you look at your own hands. anyway this got really long. i'm just making stuff up on the fly but yeah they could have that kind of dynamic.

ok ok. cracks knuckles. kaina and katsuki. the thing is that they have surface similarities i think. "so how should i solve this problem i have…" kaina and katsuki both stare at me like im fucking stupid "blow its brains out??" there's a duh here. they're both the kind of person who is smarter than other people assume based off of first impressions. but that's only because they're the straight arrow type. there's no fucking around the point with these two, they're blunt and very goal focused. they tend to hyperfocus on whatever they're currently trying to do, and they don't stop to wonder if it's wrong or just a liiiitle fucked up. cue the rude awakening.

you mentioned bakugo's hero thing vs kaina's hero thing, but i think that they're not as at odds as one might think. bakugo's hero thing was never a "save everyone" shirou emiya style (thats midoriya's patent). he admired all might because all might was always victorious. kaina probably wouldn't have a strong opinion one way or another. he's obviously missing something to make him a "true hero" or whatever. but she's not stain, for goodness sake. the whole idea of there being a perfect hero feels incredibly fake to her. if anything, katsuki's honest "i'm going to win to save people" approach might be more genuine than some fragile idealism that he can't actually back up. actually. to be honest, katsuki would be exactly the kind of hero that kaina wants to see more of. he doesn't mince words or pretend to be more righteous than anyone else. full transparency: he can be kinda a dick. but if society is going to employ heroes than people need to understand that heroes are people too, and yeah. people can be dicks. pardon my french. i'm channeling katsuki.

i don't think kaina would care one way or another that katsuki is striving for number one. the hero rankings were never really a thing to her. kaina's problem with hero society wasn't the same problem as what stain had. i think people assume that it is, because stain kinda had half of a point, except for the culling the fakes thing. but i think kaina would very much disagree with stain. because stain wanted more pure heroes. he wanted to exalt the ideal hero, put them above everyone else. and kaina just wanted heroes to get off their high horse and admit that they aren't perfect. nobody is.
