Art snobs are actually a thousand times less annoying than people who respond to everything with "it's not that deep bro"
#id rather listen so someone pretentiously explain the meaning of a canvas painted blue#than the asshole who doesnt see any meaning behind it at all#artists are pretentious but their works have meaning to THEM and it's so important you at least attempt to see what they see

one of the reasons i think that the murderbot diariesâ emotional moments hit so hard is because of a scarcity effect that the author has set up really, really well.
because, likeâmurderbot, as a character, is an answer to the question how do you âshow and not tellâ emotional moments from the lens of a character who point-blank will not acknowledge any affection directed their way. or, instead of overtly stating that characters are friends (âtellâ), how do you demonstrate it with text (âshowâ)? well, most authors go ham on characters smiling at each other, laughing, joking, expressing reciprocal loyalty.
murderbot does none of those things. murderbot probably never smiled before preservation, and definitely didnât laugh. (this is only partially an exaggeration.) telling jokes? hell yeah, MBâs funny as fuck. to other people? hell no. that would require conversations and itâd rather die, thanks.
add that to the fact that murderbot treats any expressions of affection toward itâinternal and externalâlike being bit by a snake.
so you have this character + writing style that bars most conventional ways of establishing relationships between characters. you also have this character who is basically incapable of feeling any sort of reciprocated, positive emotion toward itself. so what do you do?
you work around your character. murderbot will never pick up on affectionate body language. it hates hugs. every sentence it hears passes through about fifteen different filters of self-loathing. so you make your relationships clear, and when you hit, you hit hard.
you summarize snapshots of characters panicking about the main character getting hurt. you drop your characterâs performance reliability (and their walls) and have them banter. you have your character walk in on the tail end of conversations that expose concern for it.
and then you do things so overt that even your shit-self-esteem character canât talk its way out of. you have its friend tell it directly that it canât lose it too. you have its friends accommodate it and understand it without it directly expressing a single need. you have its friends stand up for it in conversation when it is too tired to do so. and then, when you really want to hit, you have your character pretend to be physically compromised rather than have to feel one (1) positive emotion toward itself.
positive emotions toward itself canât really pass through murderbotâs walls. so you have to establish relationships by beating your main character over the head with them. and it canât be all the timeâbecause thatâs not how relationships and emotional recovery, yknow, worksâbut it can be sometimes, and it can be very powerful, and that is why i think murderbot diaries in particular is very, very effective.
#tmbd#the Murderbot diaries#moby dick#serenblabs#this stuck out to me as i was noodling on all the things wells does well#this post feels a little scatterbrained to me but hopefully gets the point across#murderbot as a character is so freaking incapable#of conceptualizing and even THINKING#that other characters might regard it positively#that a lot of relationship-building necessarily has to happen almost around it#like youâre ambushing murderbot with friendship. donât let it know you like it or itâll shut down#inspired in part by reading the home short story yesterday#and being genuinely shocked how much Mensah talked about murderbot#she was openly positive and affectionate toward it in her thoughts#in a way that caught me off guard because iâd gotten so freaking used to#THIS assholeâs emotional constipation#like as an author building believable relationships with one character who is so closed off from them#and is so traumatized#must be so hard and wells does it so well#and those emotional moments fucking HIT#constantly in awe of her work#well fucking done

something that kinda ticks me off in the bug community is when people act like a bug has to be a useful part of the ecosystem to deserve to exist. Like for example whenever mosquitos get hated (like where people are like we should kill mosquitos entirely) people's responses are always "well mosquitos are actually polinators and do..." like. yeah i get that but just bc they are helpful isnt what gives intrinsic value! its really annoying to me, because the response to posts like that (the hating of bugs) shouldnt be "oh but its helpful!" it should be "damn. thats honestly a really weird thing to say, and the fact that you think we should eradicate an entire species (weather or not its "annoying" or "scary") off the face of the planet is a huge red flag to me, an annoying/scary individual."
like thats actually horrible of you to say.

do u think physical build is an important part of being security? im 5'5 and think i look very timid, but ive seen some entry level security job listings around me that ive been interested in.
I've only been private security for around five years, so I'm still relatively green compared to my colleagues, but I personally am about 5'3" and I've been doing great!
And again, I'm not incredibly experienced, but if I were to make a hire, I'd be prioritizing a number of things before considering height.
Physically you need to be capable of doing your duties without pain- so if you have chronic pain, foot patrol may not be your bag, but CCTV monitoring might work. If you can't drive, being a site manager may not work, but working door duty somewhere local might be.
Physical presence- in regards to 'looking timid'- is something that you can work on if you want to, but sometimes an unassuming appearance is your advantage.
A "problem demographic" (using HEAVY quotations there) for a lot of places like malls and downtown areas is adult women with trauma, addiction, and mental health issues- they're seen by a lot of clients as "crazy ladies" and treated less like people by the general public, and a good number have very good reason not to trust men ESPECIALLY in uniform, but are more often than not perfectly easy to get along with if you're polite, respectful, and don't come off as a threat or authority figure. Being able to offer menstrual products and having resources around the area you can recommend is good, too.
And if I HAVE to move people out from behind buildings and such, saying "fuck off asshole" like folks imagine is NOT as effective as "Hey, sorry, this area is restricted, but here are some other places that might be okay- I need to do another check in about an hour, so heads up, and the church up the street is doing hot chocolate right now".
Really, if you want to do well in security- at least basic work- I'd say you want to focus on the following:
Wear your uniform and keep it tidy
Show up prepared and on time
Be able to approach strangers and talk to them
Keep a positive, non-agressive attitude, and be willing to give people the benefit of the doubt
Learn deescalation techniques to diffuse conflict
Have a strong handle on your personal emotions and opinions
Kerp calm and rational in an emergency
Learn basic first aid and get certified if you can, it's not technically necessary but I've used that more than I'd like to admit
Keep a strong moral compass
Really, I'd say it boils down to keeping to your sense of ethics, showing up on time, and knowing how to follow orders with nuanced interpretation.
Beyond that, you're golden
#Teablart#I've been told repeatedly that what makes me stand out#To both employers and the public#Is that I'm friendly positive non-judgmental and timely#Those seem to be what everyone wants#On top of the basic job work of course#Just be determined to like people#I've met a lot of asshole guards who say they hate people and I refuse to be one of them#If you hate people at least fake it#It's not their fault#We're all just animals my guy we do what we can#The vast majority of people aren't malicious they're just doing what they know#And if all they know is being a dick then that's kind of sad isn't it

How to say âI love youâ in Blue Lock
I donât really want to play soccer, but being with you isnât a pain, so itâs fine.
Now that I can fight without you, being with you is even more fun
And then thereâs this asshole...

I made it this far because of you. Since you allowed me to play soccer freely, Iâve grown this strong on Bastard MĂŒnchen. But I canât climb any higher that way. I figured that out in this match, I no longer need the freedom you give me. Forget about me, Ness. Find yourself a new king. Itâs easier for me to live in restriction.

I think about this sometimes but I personally love that Horikoshi took the Yandere trope, split it in two, and gave one half to Izuku and Himiko.
Like itâs so fascinating how you can just SEE how purposeful Himiko was as a character in hindsight standing next to him.
Himiko is a really interesting subversion of her trope for two reasons:
She hurts people because she loves them, not for isolation or destruction of the competition (gore/blood is love to her, not necessarily a means to love someone)
Sheâs not possessive. Like at all.
Iâve seen that hc a few times and it always bothers me. Ochako is for sure a possessive character (we saw that with Hatsume around Izuku way back at the sports festival arc), but Himiko? Really?
You mean the girl who had a crush on a boy AND the girl who also had a crush on the same boy? Her?
You mean the girl who doesnât hurt people who love who she loves, rather actively encouraging it in the first place? That one? Really?
Like itâs such an integral part to her subversion too. Itâs what makes her such a weird and fascinating character. Possessiveness is supposed to be whats ugly about love itself, yet her love remains ugly without it. She is ugly because the fundamental ways in which she sees and feels about the world are considered âwrongâ, âdangerousâ, and âdeviantâ.
But Izuku⊠ohhhh IzukuâŠ
He holds this trait like a badge melted to his skin. My man cannot escape these allegations. Itâs to the point where itâs honestly a fundamental to his narrative. Izuku does not act nor feel the same without it.
Izuku holds a cutesy nickname that literally every other childhood friend of Katsukiâs has long left behind, saying his real name instead (this is honestly why Iâm also uninterested in a scene where Izuku calls him âKatsukiâ instead of âKacchanâ, Katsuki doesnât represent the same things the name Izuku does, imo at least), izuku âgive him back to meâ midoriya, holds his dead body to his chest on a cover, freaked out on someone either hurting/offending Kacchan.. 3 times(?), keeping big boy ofa secretsâŠ. The list goes on.
So itâs this main reason that I think their characters are just so. Fucking. Intertwined. Iâm glad this has become a more common interpretation because thereâs just so much that aligns between them.
Both of them call their âspecial peopleâ with -chan endings, both by their first names, both deemed deviants/irrelevant by society. Itâs no wonder Ochako fell in love with Izuku, just like she did toga, theyâre fucking freaks. Theyâre interesting. Theyâre weird. Theyâre overly friendly and socially inept and a little beaten down by the world yet have too much passion to stay on the ground. Theyâre envious of the ones they love (Ochako of her freedom to be a normal girl, Katsuki for his raw power and harnessed skill), and I guess I just wanted to make this post because I adore how itâs all done.
I LOVE how the yandere trope is used as societal commentary here. Not necessarily as a way to make the main love interest jealous and feel she must protect the main character, nor for some kinky reason surrounding her character, but because the trope is built off of real, ugly feelings that can and do happen. That love can and is considered truly beautiful in all its forms, especially those of queer people.
So I especially love it because it isnât just limited to Himiko, but Izuku as well. He may never hurt the ones he loves, but he would hurt for them.
A perfect narrative foil on queer and deviant forms of love. Big fan Horikoshi.
#theyâre such freaks and thatâs why I love them so much#and so are ochako and Katsuki in their own special ways#just never in the way people think#ochako is a little freak who may or may not think itâs hot when Izuku is a bit beat up.#Katsuki may also be a freak for being weirdly aggressive and so viscerally himself at all times. not even necessarily bc he wants to be a-#jackass but that itâs just who he is to call people asshole nicknames based on appearance or to scream mid battle#ntm my boy was bullied before he got his quirk so like. yk. makes sense that heâs so quick to think that izukuâs been playing the long game#bkdk#togachako#midoriya izuku#mha deku#bkdk brainrot#bakudeku#bnha deku#bakugou katsuki#mha analysis#deku midoriya#uraraka ochako#himiko toga#ochako x himiko

*hits blunt* Joker has a long-standing one-sided beef with Nightingale in the Blood Blossom au because Nightingale clocked his shit almost immediately and began "sharks are smooth"ing at him. But because Nightingale only comes out in case of emergencies, Joker has to come up with increasingly convoluted schemes to trap the Batman in order to lure him out.
This has the opposite desired effect because this is the equivalent of using increasingly difficult locks to keep the raccoons out of your trash. All you're doing is teaching the raccoons how to pick locks. This also pisses off the other Rogues because Joker keeps making trapping the Batman exponentially harder all because he's beefing with his teenage son.
#danny fenton is not the ghost king#dpxdc#dpxdc crossover#blood blossom au#all jokes here all jokes but thats my crack idea for the day LMAO. i think its funniest with BB Danny rather than any other danny#danny has no super special feelings about the Joker. He's a highly dangerous asshole who reeks of middle school redpill edginess.#at least in my understanding of the modern iteration of joker. that's how he comes off as. 'we live in a society' ass mfer. my understandin#of the joker also comes from that one Terry Mcginnis scene in the batman future movie where he caused Joker to have a mental breakdown all#because he laughed at him and called him unfunny. like thats my understanding of the joker and im extrapolating from there.#danny's trick is that he doesnt act sardonic sarcastic or mockingly at Joker at any point in time if he interacts with him. bc if he does#he loses. bc then the joker knows that he IS getting under his skin and then everything else is moot. and it drives Joker INSANE#Joker has an obsession with Batman? NO! Obsession with Nightingale for you! and Bats is NOT happy about it#Danny Casts: that paranoid feeling you get walking past a group of teenagers and hearing them randomly start giggling as you pass by.#its VERY effective.#Danny's not as unaffected as he acts but that doesnt matter to him in the grand scheme of things. so long as joker THINKS he doesnt care#he'll keep doing what he's doing. In reality Joker annoys & irritates the hell out of him. His ideology pisses him off so he gets revenge#by ruthlessly ruining the guy's day whenever he can. 'tell me about why you go by the joker' and then start giggling while he's talking#danny's had YEARS to refine his ability to get under an egomaniac's skin. he takes the joker seriously just not to his face

"this old mansion is $20 million, but it's really hard to find a buyer because four spaces inside have preservation restrictions and the rest needs extensive work to convert it back from a dormitory to a house again!"
I know, off the top of my head, at least ten museum workers who make under $35K/year who would absolutely cherish this building and pour their hearts and souls into preserving and restoring it. and they'd make sure it was done RIGHT, too. you want public access for scholars and researchers? guaranteed. they'd fall all over themselves to make it a study center or something
but. they can't do that. because it's $20 million. so it sits there waiting for that rare billionaire who actually cares about something bigger than themself, empty and unrestored
do you ever just want to Bite Things?
#so I got to see a really cool old house today#an old house that neither I nor anybody else who's dedicated their lives to preserving and learning from these spaces#could ever hope to afford#like all old houses#the one mercy here is that it can't be gutted by some rich asshole. but most of them can be and many of them are#we would treasure them but because we chose that path#they can never be ours#god it's such a crushing grinding omnipresent despair#every Gorgeous Victorian Mantle!!! on FB Marketplace that's clearly taken from an intact house (in the photos)#entire STAIRCASE BANISTERS ditto#'we opened up the space! we modernized it! buy this stained glass window!' and I can't do a DAMN THING#to save even ONE HOUSE#because I can't afford it. and these vandals. these absolute desecrators of art and beauty. they fucking can

the webcomic can have one (1) funny "earnest moment interrupted by comedy" joke. as a treat. but also because it is so in character for them ajkshdjkas
yes they will say the most earnest shit to each other and then immediately try to cringe out of their own bodies. they are best friends but they would rather jump out of a window before admitting it. they are incredibly devoted and grateful to one another but you could not water board that out of either of them.
the only thing that can get either of them to admit how much they care for each other is if the other is in life threatening danger and not a second before aakjshdks
