DVMNINKTOBER Day 8 Crybaby
So I've been slowly, slowly been working my through this year's Devilman Inktober by nozoshii created for the community https://www.tumblr.com/nozoxshii/763169423585673216/i-made-a-devilman-inktober-prompt-list-for-the?source=share
The eighth day of the prompt is Crybaby! And oh man this an adaption I have the most mixed feelings for! I've watched it twice now and honestly while I don't love Crybaby, I can't bring myself to hate it for all it tried to do, I really feel like the rushed pace and it only being ten episodes long did not do this series any favors. Also hated how they treated Sirene but I'd rather bog this description down with all of the things I feel the series has done wrong. And I think having the series set in modern times makes a lot of sense since sadly violence, hatred of the other and war are timeless
I do like some of the things the creators added to crybaby, the rappers, Miko, how they dealt with social media and news being a tool that could destroy or give hope in dark times, and honestly given how things are in the world it is horribly relevant more so than ever! I also loved the music, honestly its my fave thing about crybaby, the soundtrack slaps hard, and is so fitting for its time period (just like how the OVAs' and the Amon OVA's OST are so fitting for their time periods too!) and I love to listen to it a lot!
I did enjoy some of the wacky demon designs even if they weren't the wonderfully detailed ones I normally like, they are at least fun to look at. Psycho Jenny's design in Crybaby is one of my faves honestly, and I had a lot of fun drawing it here for this picture! Also Miki's death scene broke my heart, okay, I keep being in tears while I was watching it, that was roughhh and I did like the final battle, the music and the emotions were really hyped in my opinion.
Speaking of this picture, this one was a little tricky to make but I wanted to again play with composition, and playing around with different textures and shading. Also while Crybaby Satan's design isn't my personal fave I did have a lot of fun drawing him too, especially his wings, they are more simple looking than the Amon OVA's design of Satan but a little more detailed than the manga version of Satan, so it was an interesting challenge to find the right balance.

You make a really interesting point actually.
I’ve always been aware that not every member was going to be equally talented in certain categories and sometimes they weren’t even that talented and were added just for their looks (which I don’t believe is right considering the overwhelming amount of talented people that could’ve been in their place, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love them any less). But I feel like I saw people always being kinda mean about it so I tried to defend them and sometimes try and delude myself into believing they had more talent than they really did. I just wanted to be more positive if I’m being honest, but hindsight is 20/20 and I’ve realized that them being mean wasn’t always the case, they were just stating the facts lol. I’ve also grown since then. Idols like that still exist and I don’t hate on them for it. But I also don’t try and convince myself or anyone else that they’re something they’re not. I have hopes that they’ll continue to improve though!
As for demanding equal lines, I admit that I am one of those people, or I at least just complain about it to myself or my friends. But I’ve recently realized that more often than not, it’s for a good reason. They might not get many lines in singing or rap, but they can be a stellar dancer and show their talent through that. I’ve never quite considered that to be a possibility.
I do remember times though where I noticed a member got little to no lines, but were constantly center or at the front during the dance or got lots of screen time during the music video. I’d like to think that the reason why that is is because the company wants the members to present themselves and perform in the best way possible that is effective to their strengths and weakness and not because they like or dislike a member more than the others (which is also a possibility that I keep in mind).
The thing with all-rounders is interesting as well. I personally do think that some idols are all-rounders, they’re just the strongest in one category and that’s usually the one that they present as the most. But I agree that most idols aren’t all-rounders when their fans consider them so. I wonder if that’s just because they want to think the best about them even when it’s not completely true. I personally do base my “favorite singer in the group” or “favorite rapper in the group” off of my personal tastes, but I’ll always say that when stating my opinion because I know it’s not a universal thing.
The Kpop fandom as a whole is soooo… I don’t even know.
Anyways! I’m sorry for the long paragraph and opinion that literally no one asked for 🥲, I’m just having all of these epiphanies😅
I hope you’re doing well! Love youuuuu🫶🫶🫶
I guess in kpop it makes sense some are added for their looks. Kpop isn't just about vocals. In fact it mainly isn't and the visuals are the stan attractors but they at least should carry a tune and there should be a proper main vocalist.
Yeah there is being mean and there is stating a fact. Like i said some are my own faves and even i can admit they're not good lmao but they shine somewhere else
Oh i used to be one of the equal lines demanders and i used to resent jungkook because he got the most lines in bts songs lol but now i get it. He is by far the most stable live and the most in control over his own vocals. My own fave at the time V had and still has very poor technique that despite his pleasant tone of voice makes him hard to listen to for long.
Yup while there are cases of idols with good vocals not getting their due lines (liz from ive is the most recent example) sometimes they make the idol shine in something else like momo in twice. Ofc at the same time they should still get a couple of lines so they're not completely removed from the song because that's just cruel.
Yeah there are all rounders but they're very rare. Like txt for example, yeonjun is the only all rounder. The rest aren't and it's dishonest to say they are but companies wanna claim their idols are all all rounders to not do the work of finding standout talent over just visuals. Like newjeans, ive, lesserafim, all groups I adore but where is the main vocalist? Main dancer? Main rapper?
Yeah the kpop fandom is made up of younger kids so of course they'd be passionate about defending their faves. I was when i was their age.

on christmas day i saw what you guys wrote on my christmas tree decorations and it got me so emotional and then i saw everyone else also getting sappy and writing something and so i started writing this back then but the post got too long and i was tired so instead i decided to finish this later and post it today on new year’s eve!
from telling my friend at the beginning of the year that i could never imagine myself going to see an artist multiple times in a short amount of time to literally seeing joker out twice in three days in september, this year has been full of unexpected events. finland almost won esc??? i found a new favorite band and traveled all the way to prague to see them??? i’ve found myself in some situations this year that i could’ve never imagined possible and it’s all thanks to this green rapper from finland and five slovenian guys in an indie rock band
i also want to say thank you to all of you. all of the people i’ve gotten to know in this fandom have been so nice! when i bought my tickets to the nordic tour, i didn’t have any friends in the fandom. but then i started using tumblr again and honestly you guys are the sweetest people ever and i feel so lucky to have you in my life 🩷 and not to forget all the friends i’ve made while queueing for the gigs (also the ones not on tumblr)! i couldn’t have asked for a better company for any of the gigs i’ve been to 🩷 i also hope that i’ll get to meet as many of you as i can next year!
this is getting long so i’m gonna ramble some more under a read more and sum up my year. have a safe new year everyone 🩷
i don’t remember much from the beginning of the year. i was heartbroken and after being a fan of esc for like 10 years i felt like i could never ever enjoy esc again (dramatic, i know). i did check the umk contestants when they were announced but didn’t really dig further into it. but it all changed when i woke up on the morning of january 18th and saw literally everyone talking about this green guy named käärijä and the song cha cha cha. of course that also made me check kuumaa’s song when it got released the next day and i immediately fell in love with ylivoimainen. even though ylivoimainen was my number one fave umk song this year, i do remember telling my friends that ccc is our only choice if we want to win eurovision.
in march i was going to my first käärijä gig. it was a esc themed student party and they had a esc song quiz before and we got to the finals but the other group was faster so we ended up second 🥲 for the concert we did end up in the front row (with less than an hour of queueing and we had time to actually sit down at a table before the gig??) but i ended up giving my spot to a nice fan because i could see from behind my friends just fine and i wasn’t really there for käärijä 😅
april 7th 2023. my 25th birthday. käärijä's first pre-party and so the first pre-party i followed this year. the day bojan and käärijä met. the next day i was watching the livestream of the concert and patiently waiting for käärijä's performance (jodelissa kaarinan lapsuuskuvat nevö foget <3) and that's also when my joker out brainrot actually began. it followed me all the way through esc and made me buy a ticket to the nordic tour and i feel like the rest is history so i'm just gonna do a quick recap
i joined tumblr again in july after getting tired of only using jodel. i had a busy summer at work but did go to one käärijä gig but other than that i feel like nothing else really happened until the nordic tour.
then the nordic tour came around and i just had the best time. i’ve already written gig reports from these so i’m not gonna go into detail but i got good spots both at tavastia and olympia, i talked to so many nice people and i sang umazane misli at tavastia. the most surreal moment though was when i found myself singing in a karaoke bar in tampere after the gig and i see the same people who i’d just watched perform singing along to me
after the nordic tour i really wanted to go see them again and so i booked tickets to prague and even though the queue was a mess and honestly i’m not gonna lie and say that i’m not still salty about it, but other than that i had such a good time! hanging out with my dear mutuals, seeing both lps and joker out and finally hearing the songs we hadn’t heard at the nordic tour and seeing the new outfits! i also got to hug both jan and bojan 🩷
i got to end my year of concerts the way i started it, by going to a käärijä gig, but this time it felt so much different compared to the one in march. i actually knew other songs than ccc this time 😅
personally 2023 was a year of growth and healing for me and i hope to have as much fun next year as i had this year. i have so much planned for next year, umk in february, joker out in march in helsinki and maybe somewhere else too so see you there 🩷

nayeon - 'na' mini album review + ranking
'something' - when i heard the audio teaser for this, i was immediately SO excited. then when i heard the start of this song, i was even more excited. 'SAY MY NAME' who?? that guitar SCREAMS iconic y2k track. i love this genre for twice (see basics & rush) and i feel like the way this track was produced works SO well for the overall vibe of the album. liquid drum and bass (at least the very simple, dreamy style of it) has become almost a bit overdone in my opinion due to the newjeansification of kpop (not dealing with that here) but the use of the guitar in the background gives it that iconic y2k feeling similar to destiny's child and tlc. i think overall this is a really easy to listen to track, however i definitely did expect a little more from it after listening to the audio snippet. would've loved more of the nayeon rap because that's what i was most excited for!
'count it' - this is so dreamy, it reminds me a bit of 'wishing on you' from jihyo's solo album, which is one of my favs. i love a slow nayeon song that solely focuses on her super sweet, smooth vocals and i feel like it's nice to hear her lower voice for a change too, especially bc jyp absolutely makes her (and jihyo) work overtime with those high ass adlibs in their group songs. this was honestly everything i wanted from this song; slow, an easy listen, beautiful, minimal production that still doesn't feel boring or repetitive, and that ending was honestly my fave thing EVER! could listen to it on repeat, and most definitely will. it felt like the perfect outro song for this album too.
'magic' - that prechorus is SO delicious oh my god! nayeon and julie is literally giving the kpop version of every iconic collab in the 2010s between an insane vocalist and badass rapper (i'm thinking nikki minaj, ariana grande, iggy azalea before she got cancelled lol) however, i actually don't love the chorus as much as i was hoping! it definitely fits the vibe of the song but i feel like it didn't entirely live up to my expectations for it. of course, julie's vocals are absolutely insane, i'll never not go on about them, and nayeon absolutely ate! i feel like this track again matches the late 2000s vibes i'm getting from the album, with a little more this would have 110% been my favourite song.
'abcd' - NAYONCE WHO??? i'm actually not joking at all, this was absolutely what the kpop industry needed. that very typical young, teenager-y y2k concept has honestly been entirely overdone (yk what i'm talking about, every girl group and their mother's been a victim of it welp) so i'm SO GLAD that icons like kiss of life and now nayeon have decided to bring back mature y2k! we need trashy! we need camp! we need intense instrumentals and sassy raps and lyrics! pop was so cute and i adore it for her, but i love seeing the more adult concept for nayeon too, esp bc she's almost 30 now and i feel like she needed something a little more. this feels very very very much like crazy in love by beyonce, which kind of does unsettle me a little, it's not a bad thing but that song is VERY iconic so it feels like a very tricky song to try and replicate even when its done a bit differently, because there's always gonna be comparisons regardless and a song like that just cannot be outdone, no matter how iconic nayeon is. however, it's different to all the recent releases we've had in kpop so imma let it slide. also, i was VERY disappointed by the fact that this track, the TITLE TRACK, was less than three minutes. why tf are ALL of the bsides longer?? the math is not mathing. i was really hoping short song syndrome wouldn't hit 3rd gen kpop but apparently it has, which is actually so sucky. also i highkey hate jyp's promotion methods bc y'all did NOT need to spoil the entire chorus?? like i would've enjoyed this so much more if it was a suprise yk. that felt like a really dumb move especially when there wasn't even a super different crazy end chorus so that felt like a bad decision but oh well. solid title track, 9/10 (-2 for the shortness of the song and promotions). and final thoughts, i feel like jihyo also would've eaten this concept up. after seeing namoji perform 10 minutes, i've been needing them to do a song as a subunit and i feel like this would've fitted them as a trio SO well.
'halligalli' - she's cute, she's bubbly, but not too childish either. she JUST fits into this album's concept in my opinion, and it feels like the classic twice bside recipe (this isn't a bad thing, but it does sound like something i've heard before from twice and it fits into their discography well). however, sticking to the classics isn't a bad thing at all, often if you have all new genres an album can feel daunting and too diverted from the identity you felt the artist was originally showing. so i think this is a very safe but cute track. it'll go on my playlist, but i feel like she's a tiny bit forgettable.
'butterflies' - can someone explain to me why this wasn't on the 'im nayeon' album? because this SCREAMS that concept. it's super cute and very nayeon-esque, but i feel like it takes away from the more mature concept this album was leaning towards? it feels very teenage y2k lovesong, which is super cute, but this album was gearing more towards iconic y2k artists in their adult prime so i feel like this doesn't quite resonate with that. i'll definitely listen to it because it's a good track, but probably not in conjunction with the rest of the album since it doesn't fit my mental vibe for it lmao.
'heaven' - out of the two slow tracks, 'count it' was honestly my favourite. i think its also because this song was fully english and it felt like an overload of entirely english songs in this album, which is lowkey weird for me to say as an international fan, but it feels like twice is trying too hard to globalise its audience and is forgetting about their initial fanbase. like twice has been doing one english track in their albums for a bit now, but even the title track for this album was very english heavy and so were most of the bsides. three out of six bsides were english, and the others still have a lot of english lyrics. anyways, it just didn't stick out to me as much as the other songs, still very sweet and nice to listen to but not particularly outstanding in my eyes. it'll definitely end up on my playlist though!
let me know your opinions on this comeback. i personally adore this image for nayeon and think it was overall a solid album!

drinking from a poisoned well (from my tinyletter)
I wonder if I will ever stop trying to find myself in the culture I consume. I also wonder if the culture I consume is as much of a mirror as I think it is - does it have anything to do with me? Does it reflect me? And by reflect I mean does it tell you something about who I am, what matters to me, what I stand for?
Kanye West recently released his album Donda. As a reformed Kanye West fan, I’ve tried to find the words to describe the dull yet pulsing ache I feel when I think about his music and the impact that he has had on my life, whether I like it or not. I’ve issued a blanket mute to anyone I see posting that they are listening to his album...an album which I don’t need to listen to to know that it isn’t good. But more than the quality of the music itself, I don’t need to listen to the album because I don’t need to support his public alignment with accused and convicted rapists and sexual deviants, homophobes, anti-Semites, and misogynists. I have several problematic faves, but I don’t have 1 hour and 48 minutes to find out if anything on Donda is worth seeing past the list of collaborators, and the glaring lack of women in an album dedicated to his late mother. I don’t know the answer, I don't want to know, and I don't want to care.
Maybe that is the name for that dull, pulsing ache. Care. But not in the sense of, I care for you. In the sense of somehow this affects me with clear undertones of I wish it didn’t.  Like seeing an embarrassing photo of yourself from years ago. Or like this week, I got a request from someone who asked about Fly Art prints. Toni and I have only spoken publicly (lol) about the slow death of Fly Art once and it is as simple as the two of us not being interested in the project anymore and also as complex as my (I can’t speak for Toni) relationship to the music and artists that I love and follow.
I have loved rap music for a finite amount of time. I think it came about as a result of having dabbled in dance, and also my appreciation for a good fucking beat. I admired the brashness with which a rapper could admit their (though it was often his) faults while also boasting of their success. As a very self-conscious yet vaguely confident (in the right context!) person, I saw myself reflected in the tricky balance between humility and the skill of embodying my own self. I promise! I am! So self-conscious. Rap, and by extension hip-hop fed my soul. When I first moved to Sydney, I attended a Yeezus show in total nosebleed seats. Kanye played the intro to Runaway twice after asking who in the audience was hearing it live for the first time. It was one of the best concerts I had ever been to. I still chase this same feeling: the distance from the stage bridged through shared, mutual adoration.
I leaned on Fly Art as part of my personality until the proverbial reed broke. I thought it made me cool and influential. I loved the attention so much. And it was fucking fun! Until we tried to make money off of it (We succeeded though) and it became a job. It was no longer fun, more than a cool hobby that made me feel cool and popular. And I just stopped listening to hip-hop. My taste in music changed, and it seemed that every rapper I admired was on a mission to remind me they were straight cishet men doing straight cishet men things, including:
Denying the existence of slavery, supporting one of the actual worst presidents of the United States, which is saying something considering they’re all fucking hacks (Kanye West)
Appearing to have groomed young women...and giving R FUCKING KELLY A WRITING CREDIT IN 2021 (Drake)
Threatening to boycott Spotify if they didn’t return the music of someone who abused their partner (Kendrick Lamar for xxxtentacion, weird tbh)
Fighting with women who were trying to encourage the general public to read??? (J. Cole, in an odd bid against literacy)
Featuring Chris Brown (unfortunately too many to name)
In summary, just a lot of stuff that left a bad taste in my mouth and left me questioning what I had signed up for. What my support meant. Worse, what did my profiting off of the work of black artists say about me across the ugly ugly backdrop of gender-based violence, systemic racism and police brutality? The slow death of Fly Art was really just the same story over and over again: people change and they indeed realise things. They do not condone misogyny and misinformation, which I strive to do. I also cannot stand albums longer than 16 tracks. Who even has the time?
That isn’t to say I don’t listen to any rap or hip-hop music at all. There is still a lot of it on rotation!!! But I can’t think of anything more exhausting than seeing Donda on my feed multiple times. I don’t have to listen to the album. I cannot believe how hard I stanned this man. Part of my disgust and anger is definitely directed towards me. There is an endless bowl of shame in there. I often call myself a “reformed Kanye West fan” because there is so much of his music that I love. And I resent him so deeply now because the more he continues to do *gestures vaguely* whatever this is, the more poisoned the well feels.
I understand that it is possible to like problematic people and to support artists or people in general who aren’t perfect. It is inevitable that everyone has fucked up at least once in their life. It feels like I’m reliving a cycle of disappointment that I feel for myself when I make a mistake or when I am unkind. Ha, maybe the point isn’t to find yourself in what’s out there, but to find it (speak to the manager) within. Maybe I just feel envious of people who are able to separate the art from the artist?
On the other hand, fuck that. There is a line. In a world that is rapidly taking away a woman’s right to her own body, where we are constantly in a deluge of violence of all sorts from men in power, I cannot believe that people I know are still listening to Kanye West! Openly!!!! Is any gesture of support worth the pain inflicted by the men I mentioned above? There will eventually be a time when I stop drinking from this bowl of shame, alienation and just straight up anger, but at the very least I know my answer. I want people to know that this shit doesn't sit right with me, because how else can we demand for something better? That’ll be enough. It has to be enough.

You r never disappointing, i swear you're the one that keeps the Hoseok/YN Tag alive and going.
Hi lovely, you're in for a TREAT today. I went on one checking out my reblogs for all my fave Hoseok fics and here they are, a curated list of all the banging Hoseok fics that keep Hoseok/YN alive.
Category: Mafia Hobi/gang Hobi
Look no further than the sublime writing of @xjoonchildx - the Hobi in the drabble Close Call is only a taste of how excellent the Gentlemen of the Gajog series is, featuring the rapline.
I've re-read Heartbeat by @joonbird so many times because this Hobi's written so perfectly - a sexy, tough guy who's decent and insecure underneath and also so so so so hot.
Category: Sweet husband Hobi
@bonvoyagenoona is the writer I admire and aspire to be like. I got on AO3 just so I could read her writing. I adore all her work and The Cul-de-Sac cons is the story I come back to when I want to escape, genuinely escape. JK is the romantic pairing but the Hobi in this is such a sweetheart.
Lawn boy Hobi in Hot and Bothered by @sahmfanficbts is glorious crack at its very best. Sam's devoted to Namjoon but when she branches out, it's still ace.
Category: Soft Hobi/nice guy Hobi
Project Dream Girl, a holiday story that's heartwarming and snuggly and full of brilliant details, also written by @bonvoyagenoona She writes with such compassion and feeling I will never get over it.
I've lamented more than once that @gukslut is no longer active because her writing is incredible and if I could only read stories from one writer ever it would be her. The Holiday Hobi is a perfect mix of filthy and sweet.
Useless Magic by @reliablemitten is a feel-good romp of a story with clever, clever writing featuring a sexy banker Joon and a sweet sweet Hobi who teaches toddlers.
There's something about Hobi in the holidays, and Ho-ho-horrible by @ugh-yoongi is a sweet, heartwarming tale of a thoroughly decent Hobi.
For the first time by @candlewaxandp0lar0ids is beautifully written, and features a sexy neighbour Hobi.
Category: Sexy boss Hobi, with a helping of angst
I read the entirety of Jungle Park by the very excellent @jimlingss in one night. I've been reeling ever since. It's perfect. I've never seen better.
Category: Kinky Hobi
@btssmutgalore writes kinks in the most beautiful and inclusive way. Pas de Trois is so incredibly hot and also features a side of JK.
Category: Fuckboi Hobi
An underwritten trope, imo. The Hobi in Flight 18 by @noona-la-la-la is so funny and charming you're pulled in no matter that your thoughts are on that airport outfit.
Flip & Reverse It by @neonlights92 is funny, smart and so so entertaining, check it out, it's the best laugh you'll have all day.
Fuckboi rapper Hobi in Holiday Inn by @bangtanintotheroom is frankly irresistible and it's futile to even try.
I think putting Party Time by @sugakookitty under this category is underselling this Hobi because frankly, he's sexy, unhinged and way too entertaining for his own good.
Category: Historical Hobi
The Hobi in Kanalia by @xjoonchildx is the ultimate brooding sexy man of few words.
Category: Spy Hobi
Lightning never strikes twice by @vyduan is clever, sparky and so so funny.
Category: Supervillian Hobi
Versus by @minisugakoobies featuring Yoongi, Hobi and Namjoon and a kickass superhero lead, is one of the funniest and crackiest fics I've read on here.
Category: Demon Hobi
I honestly think about the demon Hobi from Not today, Satan, written brilliantly by @gimmethatagustd all the time, and the outrageous MC too.
Same for this unexpectedly soft sleep paralysis demon Hobi in Whispers in the Dark from the brilliant mind of @miscelunaaa .
Category: Crack Hobi
This tentacle-wielding, dancing Cthoseok from Unspeakable Horrors by @thatlongspringnight is straight-up crack and makes me ugly laugh.
Popping these at the end because they make me laugh every time:
@bang-tan 's fake subtitles in this have me crying.
@jeonjapan's hixtape tracklist is gold.
So hey, anon, for you and for me, Hobi's got a lot of strong players in his corner and writers who write him like he's the king he is. Happy birthday month, Hobi! 💜

this account has been hacked since before, and now that i got it back, it's been filled with kpop stuff.
although i could care less about the music and idol culture( although i do like butter by bts ft. megan the mf stallion 😛) i went through some of what the hacker called "fics" and works", and i must say-
the hacker had some good taste.
like this ateez group have some of the sexiest men ive ever seen in the world. and two of them rap? and one has a voice that- whooh
also this, gi-dle? gidle? i-dle? gidol? anyway, they kept talking about "soyeon" and i was confused on why they love this girl so much. and after seeing some stuff about her,i understand. id smash 🤪
so who i like in these groups? this mingi dude looks pretty cool, like he could collab with one of my faves tyler the creator. also minnie looks hella hot that im surprised i saw not as much stuff of her here. but then again, soyun seems to take her spot here for good reason.
and twice. the group. anonymous askers love the girl mina. is it because she's shy? it's like shy=smash 🤣🤣 no but i get it. corruption and all that. i made some posts here about how id like to smash rappers who are normally shy, so i dont judge at all (check on archive and you'll see my post back in 2019).
idk why it took me so long to get my account back, but i honestly dont think i want to delete everything since i have some of my old following here.
welp, although i know very little rappers outside america, "stan" chanmina. you guys say stan, right? yeah. if you fuck with her then i'll definitely fuck with you.

My 100 Favorite Songs of 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2021 was a strange year for music–it was a year of dashed hopes, full of unmet expectations and unimaginable loss. There were some great tunes, though. There always are.
My listening was a bit all over the place this year, but as a result, my list is probably as geographically and stylistically diverse as any I’ve made in the past. Check below to read about my favorite songs from the calendar year, with a Spotify playlist at the bottom. Hopefully you’ll find something you like!
Without further ado, my faves:
25. DJ Black Low - “Jaiva Low” ft. Hapas Music, DJ KS & Patna: Amapiano, a style that dominates its native South Africa and is gaining steam on the rest of the continent, is first and foremost music meant for the bleary post-midnight hours of a crowded club. But if amapiano has a secondary function, it’s to freak out your friends and neighbors. “Jaiva Low,” by 20-year-old producer DJ Black Low, succeeds wildly on both counts. The insistent snare and wobbly bass keep you moving your feet, but the vocal–which rests halfway between didactic dancefloor direction and a summoning ritual–might have you running for your life.
24. Esperanza Spalding- “Formwela 10”: “Formwela 10” comes from Spalding’s Songwrights Apocethary Lab, a music therapy project and now full-length album that “seeks to develop a structure for the collaborative development of new compositions designed to offer enhanced salutary benefit to listeners.” I don’t know about all that, and many of the “Formwelas” on the album leave me a bit cold, but I definitely pick up some of those salutary benefits from “Formwela 10.” Divided into two distinct halves, “Formwela 10” starts as a minimal, yet theatrical vamp, Spalding singing tentatively and curiously as she plucks her harp like an upright bass and describes her aimlessness in life and love. The second half is a vocal tour-de-force, as she’s touched by divine intervention in the form of a dramatic grand piano that echoes her immaculate descending melody. A reminder, in Spalding’s words, to “make space and time for your elders,” “Formwela 10” is the perfect prescription to gracefully wind down from an overstimulating day.
23. Chubby & The Gang - “I Hate The Radio”: They’re known for their lightning-quick bursts of pub punk, but English group Chubby & The Gang is the rare hardcore group whose ballads are as strong as their bangers. Joining a growing list of heartfelt highlights that includes last year’s “Trouble (You Were Always On My Mind)” and “Grenfell Forever,” the closing track on their 2021 album The Mutt’s Nuts is a clever inversion of rock music’s most well-worn tropes–Chubby Charles knows that the conglomerated radio of today doesn’t quite compare to the power of the AM Jonathan Richman so joyfully sang about in 1972. Instead, the Gang bemoans the format’s calcification, only playing “the songs we used to know,” songs that evoke happier times in the life of the narrator and the world at large.
22. TisaKorean - “How i walk in the club”: TisaKorean is one of the most restlessly creative artists in the game today, constantly brainstorming new ways to get your body moving. His songs often feel like pop hits beamed in from another dimension, none more so than “How i walk in the club,” a mutating, low-key number brimming with hooks, tempo changes, and Tisa’s silly flows. In a fairer world, this song would’ve been at least as big as that Makonnen song about molly.
21. Wiardon - “Stay Down”: Austin, TX producer/rapper Wiardon is younger than Tom Brady’s first Super Bowl win, but he has the confidence and suavity of a man twice his age (to be very clear, twice his age = 38). On “Stay Down,” he initially stumbles over the opening words of his verse, before collecting himself and calmly intoning preternaturally wise bars about staying true to your roots. Wiardon helps his own case by layering pizzicato strings over one of the year’s finest basslines, creating an instrumental that begs to be blasted out of boxframe muscle cars.
20. Axel Rulay - “Si Es Trucho Es Trucho”/”Si Es Trucho Es Trucho” (Remix) ft. El Alfa & Farruko: This was a big year for dembow, and Rulay’s expansive breakout track showed just how much a determined artist can do with the genre’s signature riddim. “Si Es Trucho Es Trucho'' does away with any sort of song structure, eliminating verses and choruses in favor of clipped chants, children’s choirs, and organic percussion to supplement the relentless beat. The remix takes the track in a more traditional direction, adding verses from undisputed dembow don El Alfa and imperial reggaetonero Farruko, sacrificing some of the unpredictability for ratcheted-up energy.
19. Olivia Rodrigo - “deja vu”: Olivia Rodrigo hit the music world like a comet this year, armed with a knack for writing and singing about heartache with the kind of poise, skill, and relatability that only comes around once a decade or so (and as Adele and Taylor Swift prove again and again, this is practically a license to print money). She found a perfect partner in producer Dan Nigro, who complements her with tasteful arrangement touches, never repeating the same trick twice on her debut album SOUR. “deja vu,” to me, is the perfect blend of song and production, with militant percussion and buzzing guitars that evoke Nigro’s work with erstwhile indie star Sky Ferreira.
The song is less theatrical and outwardly emotional than many of the album’s other highlights, but Rodrigo’s delicate, almost sickly-sweet falsetto makes her words sting that much more. What I love about “deja vu” and Rodrigo’s songwriting in general: despite the worldly affect and venomous barbs, the song still manages to capture the uniquely-teenaged kind of naveté that makes one think that they were the first person to discover Billy Joel (not really something to brag about, but I digress).
18. Rauw Alejandro - “Desenfocao’”: It’s time to stop messing around and state the obvious: Tainy is one of the best producers working in any genre right now. He’s a master of atmosphere, creating wistful compositions that inspire the world’s most macho reggaetoneros to express some vulnerability for a change. On “Desenfocao’,” he fills space with cavernous bass, open hi-hats, and underwater, out-of-time synths, creating an anthem that owes as much to Beach House as it does Bad Bunny (it feels like a spiritual sequel to “Callaíta,” another Tainy-produced jam). As great as he is, Tainy is only half the equation here–Rauw fulfills his side of the bargain admirably, toe-tagging the programmed percussion with mathematical precision and floating over the swelling production with his achingly pure tenor as he tells a story of unfathomable heartbreak.
17. Bawo - “Starts With A Text”: “I’m hard-pressed for a reason to come out tonight,” intones West London emcee Bawo on the hook for “Starts With A Text,” a half-asleep pronouncement that echoed through my head during a year where leaving the house was a proposition that fell somewhere between unappealing and unsafe. Accompanied by liquid keys from producer Daniel Ness, Bawo’s delivery is somehow both lackadaisical and technical, as he sets about navigating the world of digital dating, and exploring how intentions get obscured when communicated through blue (or, heaven forbid, green) bubbles.
16. New Pagans - “Natural Beauty”: How come there aren’t more songs about frenemies? Perhaps the liminal nature of that relationship doesn’t provide the same kind of emotional clarity that more straightforward relationships do, and are thus not as translatable to pop song form? If that’s true, then nobody told Lyndsey McConnell, the frontwoman of Northern Irish indie rockers New Pagans. “Natural Beauty” walks a fine line between envy and pity, between worshipful affection and blazing contempt. It’s these contradictions that make the song such a fascinating character study. It empathizes with the subject’s need to live up to the expectations of those who idealize her, but wishes that she weren’t such a dick all the time.
15. Loraine James - “Running Like That” ft. Eden Samara: Loraine James specializes in finding the beauty within harsh, glitchy, distorted digital landscapes. She manipulates her voice and the voices of her collaborators to create a dense tapestry of sound, taking a jagged and unexpected path towards transcendence. “Running Like That” is frenetic and propulsive, but also probably the most traditionally beautiful composition James has ever put to tape, largely thanks to the performance of guest vocalist Eden Samara. James weaves Samara’s angelic paeans and conversational banter into a dialogue about trying desperately to escape the urges of your worst self.
14. Young Dolph & Key Glock - “Aspen”: Listen to Bandplay’s soulful blasts of organ; to Dolph’s ad-libs, especially when he helpfully clarifies that Aspen is in Colorado; to Glock’s confident, career-spanning verse. Look at their wide smiles in the song’s incredible music video. It’s cruel that such a joyful and triumphant piece of art will remain forever bittersweet. Long Live Dolph.
13. Yaw Tog - “SORE”: It boggles my mind how drill music, a street style pioneered by Chicago teenagers, has made such a large and varied global impact. It’s both an inspiring bit of cultural connection and a depressing realization that such a bleak style can be so resonant in so many different locales. The Ghanaian flavor of drill is one that I still need to get more familiar with, but it’s hard to deny a banger like “SORE,” with its apocalyptic, yet danceable beat and invigorating, intimidating hook. I slightly prefer the original, but the UK-ified remix (released in Feb 2021) does a solid job of refining the song for mass consumption, confirming that Kumasi, Ghana's Yaw Tog has enough charisma to be the strongest presence on a song with Stormzy on it.
12. Isaiah Rashad - “Lay Wit Ya” ft. Duke Deuce: “Lay Wit Ya” is as grimy as the mud caked on old rain boots. It slithers along at ground level, powered by Rashad’s understated charisma, before Duke Deuce arrives halfway through and busts the whole thing wide open. Duke’s entrance is probably my favorite single moment from a hip-hop song this year, a jolt of cantankerous comedic energy that doubles as an irresistible urge to do your best gangsta walk.
11. Anz - “You Could Be” ft. George Riley: “You Could Be” combines an irresistible pentatonic synth melody (I was racking my brain to figure out what it reminded me of and it turns out, it’s a syncopated version of the stereotypical “Oriental riff”), yammering bass, and sci-fi percussion into the year’s most delectable dancefloor confection. Tapping into the production's playful vibe, George Riley occupies a flirtatious, almost taunting mien, scolding the object of her affection for not leaping at the opportunity of a lifetime.
10. Cassandra Jenkins - “Hard Drive”: Mesmerizing and thought-provoking, “Hard Drive” is what would happen if Kaputt-era Destroyer collaborated with Carl Sagan. The song is structured as a series of conversations, Jenkins matter-of-factly weaving the dialogues into a tapestry about the digitalization of the human body and mind–our brains are mere hard drives, with limited memory, prone to overheating. Guided by the ringing guitars and wailing saxophone, Jenkins attempts to reunite our overstimulated minds with our spiritual selves, and for five-and-a-half glorious minutes, she nearly succeeds.
9. Bankulli & Not3s - “Foreign”: An immensely joyful, cross-generation collab between an Afro-Rap pioneer and a smooth-singing Brit, “Foreign” is a glorious celebration of all things imported. The song is gleefully nonsensical: Not3s smoothly delivers his hook in one of the most-pronounced London accents ever put to tape (his only competition, and with a totally different kind of London brogue, is that guy from “Parklife”), while Bankulli complements with a rugged Yoruba verse. The victorious synth horn fanfare in this song makes me feel like I’m 100 feet tall.
8. Irreversible Entanglements - “Open The Gates”: It starts with Tcheser Holmes’ clattering percussion, a manic and invigorating jolt that awakens a higher consciousness. It continues with Luke Stewart’s bass, laying down a primal, impulsively danceable beat to add a bit of sashay to the song’s stomp. Conducting the affair is Camae Aweya, the poet and performing artist known as Moor Mother, authoritative as she utters incantations powerful enough to collapse the walls of Jericho. Answering her call is the horn section, Keir Neuringer on sax and Aquiles Navarro on trumpet, who oscillate between recognizable melodies (do I hear “Camptown Races”?) and free expression.
That’s “Open The Gates.” Just listen, trust me it’s better than my silly description.
7. Armand Hammer - “Falling Out the Sky” ft. Earl Sweatshirt: The world lost producer Lee “Scratch” Perry and bassist Robbie Shakespeare in 2021, two dub masters who were directly responsible for a shocking amount of the best music ever made. Folks try every day to approximate the vibe created in the Black Ark, Perry’s studio, but few are able to capture the hallucinatory, haunted magic of its heyday. The Alchemist comes damn close with his beat for “Falling Out the Sky,” a reverie-inducing bit of ear candy that I could happily listen to for hours on a loop.
As an added bonus, we get three of the most thoughtful and philosophical rap verses of the year: Earl reflects on the loss of his father and reminds us that all life originated as matter from dying stars, Billy Woods harkens back to a summer he spent in a blissful haze of weed smoke before being rudely awakened by a state trooper, and Elucid makes sure we all recognize how the Isley Brothers paved the way for The Beatles.
6. Pa Salieu - “Style & Fashion” ft. Obongjayar: Pa Salieu has an uncanny ability to fuse African, UK, and American styles into an alchemy that is 100% his own. “Style & Fashion” isn’t really a mix or a fusion of anything, though, just Pa’s charismatic and darkly shimmering take on amapiano. An engaging master of ceremonies, Pa struts atop the syncopated snares like he’s the flyest person on the planet, while guest artist Obongjayar’s rasp arises from the ashes like an ancient voice heralding a very fashionable apocalypse. As Pa says on the hook, “welcome to the party.”
5. Mr Twin Sister - ”Expressions”: “Expressions” is a post-disco carnival, a glorious mess of bizarre interlocking parts that come together to create a well-oiled machine. You hear the disparate elements come together on the song’s intro, creating a groove that stops and starts but keeps pushing forward. My favorite touch in the song’s immaculate arrangement is the underlying current of acoustic guitar, which comes to the forefront during Andrea Estrella’s sighing bridge, adding a touch of ‘90s adult contemporary to mellow out the Chic Organization energy of the rest of the track. It seems chaotic and in lesser hands, it probably would be, but Mr Twin Sister specializes in taking what could be chintzy and making it sublime.
4. Burna Boy - ”Kilometre”: The ultimate heat check–can you make a banger about the metric system? Most can’t, but Burna Boy can, rolling the titular word on his tongue and releasing it like a missile targeted at the pleasure center of your brain. Produced by Chopstix, a regular collaborator of Burna’s who always seems to nudge him in a dancehall direction, “Kilometre” emphasizes the upbeat, punctuating Burna’s chatter with reverbed guitar strums and emphasizing his pugilistic boasts with perfectly-timed live drum fills. The dialogue between dancehall and Afrobeats has always fascinated me, and songs like “Kilometre” that exist halfway between the two are near-guaranteed bangers. Hopefully we’ll see more of this side of Burna in 2022.
3. PinkPantheress - “just for me”: I’m a natural curmudgeon, always skeptical of things that have 100% approval rating. It can’t be that good if it appeals to everybody, can it? PinkPantheress’s music is one of those things that is just suspiciously good, unlocking the secret sauce that unites ravers, indie kids, and TikTok teens. The earliest PinkPantheress tracks had lots of DIY charm, with their obvious samples and tender vocals, but she leveled up when she connected with Mura Masa for “just for me.”
Rather than using samples of songs by the likes of Crystal Waters and Adam F. as a nostalgic cheat code, Mura Masa creates a perfect homage to chill room UK garage, with backwards strings, record scratches, and an indelible guitar arpeggio embellishing the traditional 2-step percussion. The arrangement is complex, but not busy, and it leaves plenty of space for PP to lay down a sighing, oblique, and ornate melody that messes with meter and never resolves where you expect it to. The vocal is so soft-spoken that you almost miss how delightfully deranged the lyrics are, lines like “I found the street of the house in which you stay” and “I followed you today, I was in my car” (accompanied by the playful tooting of her car’s horn) eliminating the divide between devotion and dangerous obsession.
2. Remble - “Touchable”: Remble became a meme of sorts because of his crisp elocution. Lyricists of any genre rarely use such writerly syntax, and the combination of his precise enunciation and his songs’ gruesome subject matter provides the tension that animates his music. His style could come off as gimmicky if he weren’t so darn good at stringing together one-liners into the kind of song you want to memorize and recite. On “Touchable,” in particular, Remble rhymes like the very model of a modern major general, calmly attacking 10Fifty’s minimalist, bell-tolling horror movie instrumental and dropping more memorable lines than you can count: “I know a lot of demons, I can summon any one of 'em/Bodies holding bodies, it was as if they were cuddling”; “Put 30 in my chop', and then I turned him to a huxtable/Came a long way from Pre-K and eating Lunchables”; “Peter piper picked a pack of bullets, now they're touching you.”
1. Ayra Starr - “Bloody Samaritan”: There’s a certain type of confidence that only teenagers have, the absolute surety that there couldn’t possibly be anyone smarter or funnier or cooler than you and your friends. “Bloody Samaritan” takes that feeling and bottles it. Ayra Starr cannot fail, she can only be failed; her immaculate vibe unassailable, unable to be touched by the killjoys in her midst. When she’s not taking dead aim at bores and lames, she’s aggressively, almost confrontationally flirtatious, accosting the object of her intentions with a series of come-ons that beg to be IG captions: “I see you watchin' my stories/I see you gaugin' my lifestyle/I see you watchin' my movements/This bad bitch bad every day.” Listening to her tiptoe among mournful violins and slinky saxophone, you believe her every word–maybe the 19 & Dangerous artist is the coolest person on the planet??
Thanks for reading! HERE is the Spotify playlist of the full 100 songs in order.
And here's the rest of the list:

Hey there, I want to get into BTS but I don't really know where to start. Any advice?
Oh, hi! I'd like to say you came to the right person. I tried to keep this as succinct and simple as possible, so I won't be mentioning stuff like names and going in-depth about their discography, but I'll give you some of my recommendations for songs to listen to if you want to get into their music.
The thing about BTS is that they're very genre-diverse, so you'll probably find a song you like no matter what you usually listen to. The only genre they haven't done yet are the more obscure ones and, like, country. They started with hip-hop, and most of their songs are subgenres of that, but they've been experimenting with genres since around 2016ish? My recommendation for a start would be the songs that are the most popular with the general public (songs like Spring Day, a pop-rock kinda ballad, Blood Sweat & Tears, an EDM track, DNA, an EDM love song, or an all-english and recent single like Dynamite). But if we go by genre, I'd recommend Boy With Luv for pop, So What for EDM (a real "jump around and dance" kinda song if you'll take my opinion), Rain for R&B, The Truth Untold for ballads, Dionysus for that wild rock vibe, and UGH! for rap/hip-hop, though I should say that most of their songs feature rap, as 3/7 members are rappers. All of these are group songs except for The Truth Untold and UGH!, with the former being a song by the four vocalists, and the latter by the three rappers.
If you're just starting, you likely won't care too much about lyrics, but, if you like meaningful lyrics in your music, I can also recommend N.O (one of their early hip-hop tracks, this one might not resonate with you if you're past a certain age, but, at 18, I still sympathise with the idea of society kinda raising young folks to abandon their dreams for the sake of practicality and the only achievements that matter being related to education and well-paying jobs, and I do always like recommending the early tracks because I feel like they sort of set the mood/expectations), Black Swan (about losing your passion, I linked the art video because it's the chamber-pop-y classical instruments version, just to give an extra genre, though the version available on Spotify and the likes is emo hip-hop/trap), Paradise (it's okay to not have a specific dream and to just live life for the sake of living life), Silver Spoon (the generation gap, the lyrics reference crow-tits and storks because of the saying, "If a crow-tit tries to walk like a stork, it'll break its legs") and Intro: Never Mind (a solo by one of the rappers and a personal fave so I had to mention it, about not being afraid of failure and trying again). Songs I mentioned in the first paragraph that also have read-worthy lyrics are Spring Day (missing and wanting to see an old friend), So What (not caring about others' opinions and letting go of your worries) and UGH! (the values and harms of anger, especially righteous anger vs anger for anger's sake)
I only linked lyrics videos for the second group of songs, but all the music videos I linked have English subtitles via the closed captioning (which is why I didn't link Spring Day twice, but did UGH! and So What). If my recommendations are a bit too complicated, though, I can also give you this flowchart that was pretty popular on twitter back when I was still there.
Tumblr media
It has a lot more songs and includes the Japanese and SoundCloud discography as well as the solo projects, so it's more complex, but it gives "starting songs" and recommendations based on which ones you liked, and it helped me recommend songs to people before, so it might help again.
In any case, if you have any questions or something, feel free to DM me or send another ask, I'd be happy to help, considering BTS are literally my fave music artists :D

which artist/s do you feel you can see yourself in?
uhhhhh idk myself well enough to answer this question, so hmmm. maybe mk from onf? just bc sometimes he’s just chillin in the background with absolutely zero thoughts goin on in his head, other times he likes to be the center of attention causing chaos, he is very serious when it comes to work and his passion for music. can sometimes alienate himself from the rest of the group by being on a completely different wavelength. idk really. that feels like it fits.
who's rapping do you always find yourself vibing with?
not that many people fit this tbh, but i’d say mark (nct), yoshi (treasure), and hanse (victon). and honestly i don’t always vibe to them bc sometimes rap just feels unnecessary in certain songs, but they are the rappers i enjoy the most consistently
are there any artists who's talking voice you could listen to forever?
hyojin (onf), jacob (tbz), renjun (nct), heejin (loona)
is there someone who always manages to give you gender envy?
oh for sure. miya from gwsn. she’s the kind of androgynous i aim for but constantly miss.
and finally, what idol do you think the person who tagged you is most like?
ooh i’m gonna say j-us from onf on this one. bc erin is playful and likes to joke around with her mutuals and followers, is constantly making new connections with her friendly nature, but can also get serious when it matters and is super driven (hello nursing school!!!), and also a super talented person who deserves the world☺️☺️ (also sorry ik u don’t really know onf but it fit)
tagging: @lineegrace / @anyhao / @minhyukmagritte (but totally no pressure as always!)

toffee!
ah yeah, i think quarentine has given people some opportunity to actually just sit with the person they are, rather than be rushing around for the person they want to become. its good you got smth good out of isolation! ah thats great! hope you had fun and ur partner in crime speeds back home so you can get out more hehe.
ah yeah ty, good suggestions.
hmm good point, i was sort of putting it separate to the whole not-sexualising thing, but yeah. mmm yeah i totally agree, some of the enhypen fics/imagines *shudder* and even reading innie stuff is just a bit *icky* cos everyone still thinks of him as our agi ppang. yeah def would be good but sadly this just seems to be the world we live in. :(
ah yes the holy masterlist (not sarc) i have actually read in the rain and gladius maximus before, but ill go look for in class! oooh thats good! character development lol. hmmmm yes champagne problems was the angst to end all angst, that shit hurt. it was actually one of the first of your fics i read and i recall almost crying over the whole thing, it was so heartbreaking, i can see how it almost made you want to drop angst. good that youve allowed yourself some lee-way tho :)
hehe thats so cool. okay here we go, ill try not to be mortally offended (/hj)
cheese - yes same, i liked it but that was all there was, it wasnt a super standout track. it was rlly underwhelming for me but some of the hook is super catchy so there is Redemption (tm) in store for cheese maybe
thunderous - mmm, yeah at first i totally agreed, i think they suffer from too much good music syndrome, that all their other tracks are such fucking bops its hard to stay at that level of perfection. the choreo was beautiful tho and tbh, the track has grown on me since ive been watching all the vids abt it. its my brothers favourite track
domino - YES GODAMMIT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE TITLE TRACK. the raps, the vocals, the vibes, the fucking domino sound in the back? i would have streamed that shit on repeat. but tbh, as good as it is, it doesnt have that sort of grandness/oomph that skz seems to like in their title tracks so i can see why they chose thunderous (tho domino would have been so good) *sigh*
ssick - yeah same, not my fave track by a long mile, the crowd cheering was a ?strange? choice and the chorus was a bit bare/empty, plus like i mentioned earlier, it was kinda funny to me for some reason but ill still play it if im playing thru the whole album
the view - ahh one of those not like other girls (/j) i honestly think its just a good party song, just a bop to play in the background when nobodys rlly paying much attention. its pretty generic pop music but catchy
sorry, i love you - hehe yeah i thought it was going to be sadder as well, but i rlly loved the fact that they all just got to sing, which almost never happens, i dont think ive heard felix sing for a long time, so i enjoyed it. wasnt rlly a standout track but i just casually like it. looking forward to the fic haha
silent cry - this song i swear, some bits are rlly good and then others are just? why?? it does sound like a dance song tho idk. definitely not one of my faves either
secret secret - YES its so good! its such a chill song and i love their vocals in it. the combination of lo-fi/fake strings backup stuff and their heavenly vocals just makes it *chefs kiss* im listening to it rn and just... its so beautiful. it gives me pumped up another day vibes ya know? like my pace is edgy get cool, this one is energetic another day i feel like. overall i love it
STAR LOST - ah thats so cool! i didnt know that! on first listen this song had a similar vibe to secret secret but then the beat came in and ahh its such a good song. i can totally imagine them putting this song to a concert footage vid, this song is so sweet.
red lights - LMAO YES ITS SO AWKWARD WHY DOES IT GO ON FOR SO LONG ah thats good! yeah good point, its quite intense hehe. but that is my fave trope and this is lowkey my favourite track on the album so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just the combination of hyunjins and chans voices, the backing music, the lyrics ahh red lights my beloved
surfin’ - yes lmao its always a shock, i feel like they should have put gone away in between them, but its such a fun cute song, i cant get rlly mad. yeah, as an aussie i think im contractually obligated to like beaches lol. sand im not such a fan of, but my familys rlly into fishing and my brother loves bodyboarding so we stay at a beach house at least twice a year and we live like 5 mins from 3 different beaches (hehe all aussie cities are on the coast lol) so thats cool. do you like beaches?
gone away - ah gone away my beloved, i love this song sm, its just so pure and showcases their vocals and lyrics so well. yes the pitch change is very out of the blue, i feel liek they went directly from seungmins soft vocals to hans powerful ones which was an interesting choice, but hey, im not complaining
wolfgang - YES IKR ah im so happy he got to be included in that era and song. yeah its such a full on song i cant rlly listen to it if im in a quiet mood but its very motivating :)
hehe mood, i hope they do! ahhh no rest, but at least you wont have to pull a blink and wait a year for any word from the group lol. im not rlly into nct but im excited for them! ah hopefully youll be able to sneak some rest into that chaotic schedule, with enhypen (idk if u stan but yeah) squeezed into it haha
<3 w.a. 🐺
i wheezed at partner in crime, it reminded me of smth. i have a lee know fic in the drafts that i wrote 'in honor' of him (and his departure-ish). i'll tag you when i finish it, if you want. it's a rather hilarious one.
oh my god. based on my experience on the collabs i've joined before, writing explicit shit for '01 & '02 is not accepted (nct's maknaes) but with enha's hyung line '01 & '02 somehow it's okay? i do a double take every time i see fics like those i mean, technically, it's legal but still what the fuck. maybe it's just not for me at the moment. not at us venting our frustration about this. it's just something that's so accepted here that i am (in all honesty) slightly uncomfortable about. but oh well. that's kpop writerblr for you.
man i could've linked all the fics in the ask instead so you wouldn't have to go looking for them! i think i saw you like in class the other day (the fic i renamed into sharp-tongued, god it took me a while to remember the new title). describing champagne problems as an angst to end all angst is one way to put what i was feeling back in december. it just hurt to write and admit?? if that ever happened to me i would prolly cry :d
okay back to the album talk! i love how you answered with more thoughts. i love exchanges like these! i am a victim of the cheese hook and it's now one of my favorite tracks in the album. PLS, TOO MUCH GOOD MUSIC SYNDROME. that's on our self-producing kings 😌💅 also, your brother has taste! as i am typing this, domino's currently playing in my head and i realized that too, that it doesn't have that 'vibe' of a skz title track. honestly, this could be a title track of another group. ssick is starting to grown on me because i found the beats cool kdjsk not the not like other girls 😭 the view is the generic pop that i don't like but i get why a lot of people enjoy it. sorry i love you scratches a certain itch that i find myself singing the first few lines every time i remember it. i too would want to hear felix sing more!
> a mini junction on the album talk bc i got side tracked. on that topic, i want skz to switch positions at some point like i know those allrounders are capable of doing so. specifically, i want to hear seungmin rap!!!! (yk in the recent weekly idol he talked faster than changbin in a challenge and changbin is like the fastest rapper in kpop that's active atm if im not mistaken. my dandy boy has some potential and i want it UNLEASHED.)
back to album talk. silent cry is basically sad music to twerk to. secret secret is definitely one of my favorite tracks :( i loved how you compared the tracks HAJSAH i burst out laughing bc yk what, you're right! i want to make a star lost edit of skz but i simply do not have the time i want to cry. i love the song so much. ok, my dreaded track, red lights. idt i have played the track since we last talked. my friend sent me the lyrics tho and i'm itching to write a twisted au out of it. idk if you're comfortable with yandere but somewhere along those themes. the obsessive type of love that's sweet at first but turns rotten. IMAGINE IF THEY PUT GONE AWAY BETWEEN ASHJA it's like going from 50 shades to the notebook.
i was about to ask if you lived near the coast and you literally mentions it here god im so stupid. yes i LOOOOOOOOOVE beaches so much. living in an archipelago is fun :( i live in a part of the country that's more island than city so every time i want some vitamin sea it's accessible. i heard the waves in australia are great :( anYWHOOO gone away :(( every time it plays im compelled to skip it because it makes me sAD AND NOWADAYS I DONT HAVE THE TIME TO BE SAD. contrary to you, i dislike my quiet moods because i tend to overthink a lot.
i have this little analogy about how there are stays that enjoy songs the generic pop + mellow songs and then there are other stays that enjoy the noisy tracks. in my mind, it's like a perfect balance that makes me feel like all the tracks are loved in the end. just by different people.
PULL A BLINK. bro i fucking hate yg entertainment. they have the biggest kpop girl group LOCKED in their basement when they could be (and i mean this in the most business-like way not morally) milking money of the quad. they're yg's biggest hope at not being bankrupt atm so it's a damn fucking mystery to me as to how they aren't doing anything. (jk i just realized lisa solo album soon, but i still need a ot4 cb hELLO)
i stopped looking forward to the teasers. rest > kpop boys. i don't want to sound like a cult member but have you tried checking out nct? are they just not your thing? (i get it tho, that's one hard group to get into). and yes i do stan enhypen!
wow i love how long these asks are! they're like online penpals. but i also want to ask about you! how have you been lately? are you feeling okay both mentally and physically? how's the weather there? do you have anything that you want to talk about? maybe an interesting book you read? feel free to bring up anything you want to share! i'm getting conscious about talking about myself HAJHSJ
and yet another long answer B) i am sooo sorry T___T should these ask exchanges feel draining to you, feel free to stop sending them in AAAA
