I’ve been trying to practice the All for the gems color palette cuz I want to fit the color aesthetic Steven universe has got goin on

I only like the Andriel one but maybe it’s just cuz I’m biased

Also drawing Kevin and Neil only ever makes me love queer platonic kevneil even more

I’m not a fan of kandreil but I don’t hate it either, I just prefer the trio as like a familial dynamic where only Andriel would be the romantic pairing

My sister doesn’t see my vision but I love platonic KevNeil where they aren’t in a romantic or sexual relationship but love each other so much (which is why I have so much fun with the All for the Gems au)

And I can see Kevin and Neil in so many dynamics that I tend to use them for most of my AUs (which can get me confused sometimes lol)

I also like platonic JeanNeil but way less than I do platonic KevNeil

It’s just Kevin in platonic relationships is something I eat up!!!

Doodles of the creating of Milo

Andrew wasn’t ready to be a dad and it wasn’t his decision but he and Neil talked about having kids before. Andrew admitted it wasn’t a bad idea in the way future and didn’t expect Neil to abandon him like this

When the Foxes first found Milo, Andrew was in huge denial and spent a week looking for Neil. Eventually he came back to the temple and took Milo to raise him with the help of Aaron and Nicky. Andrew couldn’t handle it at first so the Foxes helped too especially since Kevin thought they were better suited to raise him since he’s a gem

Imma try to make more doodles of the foxes and Nicky and Aaron too but I’m low key tired and was supposed to be workin on something for my birthday tomorrow

Renee is a pink Sapphire (tho I wanted her to be a pearl so she and Allison could be an opal)

Allison is a pink morganite (she and Renee make a pink kunzite)

Dan is a ruby and Matt is an amethyst and they are a fusion that makes a rhodolite

you've fallen for my trap card, ramblings not about the actual fic yet sorry - I'm going to talk about art technicalities at you now :]

I drew this up on a whim immediately after finishing the first chapter. Other than it being fanart, this year I want to think smarter when making elaborate pieces - this being the one of the first experiments on it.

sketches have always been my starting foundation I usually go through a few iterations gradually building off the rough thumbnail all the way to lineart. Here I'm establishing perspective and rhythm (movement), using background and props to better frame the emphasis (focal) rather than overwhelm the eye with unnecessary detail.

Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier manga panels were an inspiration for the lineart (reoccuring character. WHA changed my life)

I even started actually putting base colours instead of skipping to shading... BASE COLOURS. BASE COLOURS WITHOUT SHADING? Crazy world we live in. Above were me testing which colours worked best for the background and purpose. Ethubs look a little out of place atm - this changes in solid filters

Shading itself was a lot of back and forth in constant fumbles to maintain the rhythm instructed in the lineart, adding emphasis how values needed to carry the visual communication of this piece especially with a line heavy background because of the wheatfields. Everything uses either cel shading, filters, or gradients - I wanted to find a way to add complexity to my regular rendering style without needing to manually blend/paint (takes too long)

During this stage, Heikala's watercolour art was the study in crowd control (backgrounds with organic repetition)

Smaller misc details that couldn't fit anywhere in the previous pages. Overall while there are some things I still would change/redo, overall very pleased as a first (second) attempt ^_^
