You Are In Love

a/n: inspired from You Are in Love (Taylor’s Version), wrote this in 30 minutes flat, little to no proofreading, hope yall like this

You don’t know what led to you and your best friend (‘hes your boyfriend’ shoko would insist) curled up on your living room couch, lights off, cuddled up to each other, doom scrolling on your phones.

You turn to him giggling, excited to show him the adorable video of a cat wearing sunglasses you’ve seen that reminds you all too much of Satoru. When you look up, hes staring at you. Theres this look on his face that you can’t really read. If you ask him about it, he wont know either.

Time passes awfully fast when you both are hanging out. You both film each other when you think the other isnt watching. Playing it back at 3AM, you feel a strange giddiness in you. A clip of you buttoning up Suguru’s coat, Satoru making a joke that nobody really hears.

You drive around at midnight, for snack runs when neither of you seem to get any sleep. You stop by his favourite cafe and get some coffee. You sit there enjoying each others company. Suguru is painfully aware of the necklace he gave you shining under the cafe lights. He doesn’t know what to do with himself in these moments.

He says “hey, look up,” when you’re walking out and laughs when you’re blinded from the glare of the lights. You brush against him and you both stiffen.

The drive home is quiet, not awkward but comfortable silence. He decides to spend the night at your apartment. The lights are out when you get back. You stumble over yourselves trying to switch the lights back on.

And for the first time, you think.

You are in love.

You end up at his house one Sunday. You try to make breakfast and then he walks in. Bare torso, grey sweatpants. The toast burns that morning. You’re wearing his shirt and he thinks he might die. He holds you that morning and promises to never let go. And you trust him. For once, you let go of your fears and insecurities.

You walk next to each other on the sidewalk, laughing and sharing kisses. Feeling so full of happiness you felt like floating.

Theres fights too. A screaming match about Amanai Riko. You don’t get why he would sacrifice his life for a girl. You leave. He catches you at the door. You talk. He promises you never have to be insecure around him. You’re it for me, he promises.

He shoots up at 2AM the next night, his expression strangely unreadable after months of being able to read him like a magazine. “You’re my best friend,” he states abruptly. You continue looking at him, your expression soft. You coax him back to bed, kissing his shoulder softly.

He is in love.

Its been years.

You got married. Satoru his best man, Shoko your maid of honour. He keeps your picture in his office at jujutsu tech. You know you would fight the world for him. He would start and end wars for you.

You feel his love, driving back home, a fond smile on his face, his hand on your thigh.

You are in love.

True love.

what series scratch the same "itch" as TLT for you? Recently finished the trilogy and feel empty and have found nothing to fill the void in my chest (lol) that TLT had in the weeks I was reading it. I have already experienced homestuck, when thhey cry, and most of the other "big names" of similar media. Any format works as long as its good. I like morally grey characters (Ianthe), well written female leads, character driven narratives and lesbians (in that order.

1. Princess Floralinda and the forty-flight tower (by Tamsyn Muir. excellent audio book narrated by Moira Quirk, same voice actor as TLT)

2. All of Tamsyn Muir's other novellas and short stories (The magician's apprentice, The house that did 16 loops of time, undercover, chew, the deepwater bride, etc)

Next up is entirely my personal and extremely picky and subjective preferences of brain zing, ranked in order of me remembering them

Chainsaw man manga (i read this 5x back to back when I first got into it in 2021. part 1 is complete, part 2 is still updating. part 1 can be experienced as a complete work. the anime is very good but the first episode is not as good as everything after it)

This is how we lose the time war book (feels sorta like fanfiction but the prose is gorgeous)

Interview with the vampire tv show (it's fun, it's camp, there are a lot of gay and bisexual people making really terrible decisions and being very hot)

Gurren Lagann anime (my favorite anime of all time. the women characters are not good, as is typical of many animes. the bathhouse episode can be skipped in its entierty without losing any plot. the overall story is really good and gives me that zing)

Arcane tv show (i watched this in full once and every since have just watched a caitvi + jinx whump clipshow but it did give me that zing. i do not care about the men)

Fullmetal alchemist manga or FMA brotherhood (really good and at this point a classic. royai is the queerplatonic campal blueprint i will not be taking critique at this time)

Revolutionary girl utena anime (watch the sub, do not watch the dub, the dub didn't make them gay. it's really good but heavy TWs and also it is paced like a 90's anime so: slow with a fair amount of filler, which can be good or bad depending on your preferences)

I have complicated feelings about Baru Cormerant and recommend reading up on content warnings if things like violent homophobia and very intimate portrayals of being a colonized subject are things that would upset you. It felt a little too personal to my life for me to like... think it was "fun" or whatever like it felt uncomfortably personal (and also subjectively I didn't super enjoy the pacing of the latter 2 books) but it did make me feel a lot of things and think a lot of thoughts. if the blurb sounds like something you are interested in then I recomend giving it a shot and then you can decide what you think of it yourself

Ancillary justice book (liked this one a lot, but havent felt motivated to read the sequel)

Other fun Studio Trigger animes such as Promare, Cyberpunk 2077, Kill la Kill

Nausicaa and the valley of the wind manga (the movie is good but the manga spanned 10 years, is gorgeously rendered, and goes MUCH more in depth especially wrt climate philosophy and such)

Slay the Princess video game (on steam but also I got into it just by watching letsplays online. It's really good and REALLY interesting, i love how it uses the visual novel format to its story advantage to pull of some incredibly cool story twists. Highly recomend!)

I feel like I am forgetting things that made my brain zing. My childhood special interest was CATS the musical (stage play and 1998 recorded production) and i definitely got brain zing from that but I don't think it has a lot of taste overlaps with tlt. this post really went off the rails but in my defense, it is after midnight

Can we get some facts about MCs family members and their betrothed ? Maybe also how they changed after MC was missing for awhile.

King Leonidas and Queen Nyra

Nyra, who was then Crown Princess, met Leonidas during his opening tourney of being a knight— something he didn’t wish to do as he’s never truly enjoyed that sort of thing; it’s something his father wished of him and he didn’t wish to be more of a disappointment. Nyra felt endeared to the fumbling boy that could barely hold the sword up, let alone hope to wield it, but the gentleness he displayed towards his horse is what truly made her wish to meet him. (They fell in love fairly quickly… Leonidas is one of her most trusted advisors.)

Nyra, like all members of her bloodline, has a magical gift in the form of water magic— said magic, like it does with all the family, showcasing itself by changing the color of her eyes on the dawn of her sixteenth birthday. Changing light green to enchanting blue.

Leonidas is definitely the softer of the two. Sneaking his children little treats after dinner has finished, or trying to persuade his wife to let them play a bit longer, but it’s Nyra that read to you when you were little before bed— despite Leonidas being the scholar between them— as she’d do different voices and various other things; all in the effort to make her darling children smile.

They both still wear midnight purple— the color of mourning for a royal within Aetheria— due to the loss of you. Nyra wearing a necklace/earrings with the stone and Leonidas with his cape being the color… Something that’s understated, as it’s not the full outfit, but something that still shows that they’re thinking of you.

Leonidas has become much more finicky of his children, worrying constantly when they’re not where they’re supposed to be. The stress has caused his darker hair to start going a bit more grey. While Nyra has been much more protective and less willing to bend her already iron-clad rules… She won’t let another one of her children disappear.

Crown Prince Elarin

Many call him cold-hearted, aloof in the face of all the heartache that his family has faced as he’s never been seen to have shed a single tear for you… Of course, that wasn’t the case within the privacy of his quarters, but he refused to break within the public eye— remaining the perfect heir as he was always trained to do.

He has a certain fondness for the old tabby that’s made her home within the stables of the palace— a scruffy thing with half its right ear missing and a scar across her face, but the tabby has survived despite everything and Elarin, however foolish he believes it to be, hopes that if the cat could survive then so could you.

Likes the peace and quiet of the library within the Royal Wing, less people coming into bother him— barring the cleaning staff— which is what he prefers. When he’s not in with his various tutors then he’s there simply basking in the tranquility that the place offers him… It happens few and far between as of late.

Stills wears a small trinket that you made for him years before— a silly birthday present that he had pretended to not understand… The little brooch now sits snugly over his heart, underneath the sash that he wears to court.

To an outsiders perspective he hasn’t changed in the slightest, but to the people that know him they know that he’s become colder, more withdraw, focused more and more on his duties… It helps him stop wondering about what could have been; even if he does stop to stare at the Map of Arvandor whenever he sees it… Wondering where you could have possibly gone.

Prince/Princess Kalyn

Being your twin, your disappearance destroyed them completely. They couldn’t be in their quarters of the castle, that they shared with you, for months after the fact. They wouldn’t even let the cleaning staff in either— refusing to let anyone destroy the last bits of you they had.

As is custom, on the sixteenth birthday of a royal heir a ball is held to honor them, and to showcase their gift, Kalyn absolutely refused to have theirs without you by their side. As it would feel like they’d be celebrating something that wasn’t wholly theirs (and it isn’t in their eyes).

Was always hot-headed as a child, which is why their gift with fire magic wasn’t a surprise, but they detest the color of their crimson eyes now… As it took away the small connection they had with you… The color of your eyes. Because, at least, when they looked in the mirror they could pretend that you were looking back.

Has a sweet tooth the likes no one has seen before. Kalyn and Leonidas always had a little “date” where they’d sneak into the palace kitchens to raid the sweets… Something that Leonidas spoke with the cooks beforehand so they were prepared (Kalyn still thinks they were being thieves of the night).

They’re still fairly hot-headed, but they’re also more closed off in a sense that they try not to form new connections with other people. When they used to try to make friends with everyone and anyone. The one topic that is definitely liable to make them blow up is you… so people tread that line with extreme caution. Especially after they punched a dignitary who had been talking about a conspiracy that the royal family is the one that caused you to vanish.

Princess Isadora

Spends a lot of her time within the castle gardens or within the courtyard surrounded by admirers and potential suitors… Not that she truly pays them any attention. While getting gifts are cute/endearing, and she gives thanks to the people who went out of their way to give her one, it’s a simple benefit nothing more— it can also get tedious when she’s simply trying to be alone.

Has a deep fondness and love for animals and plants, all living things really. You can typically see her with her loyal hound heeling at her feet or following closely by her side… She always feels safe when he’s nearby.

Her sixteenth birthday is coming up, along with the ball and manifestation of her gift, which is coincidentally around the time that you’re found… Maybe you can finally have the ball that was stolen from you (and Kalyn)… If she agrees to it, of course.

Tries her best to be there for her family when the time of your disappearance comes around… Even if she feels like a ghost at times due to it, because she doesn’t truly understand but still feels the faint echoes of her own pain falling back to her— telling her things she tries to grasp, to remember, but it’s always too far out of reach.

She was five years old when you vanished. Remembers faint things about you, but she’s mainly been affected by the way her family is now without you. A part of her misses you, misses the relationship she used to have with you, but she doesn’t truly remember you completely… She’s also far from being the energetic child with chubby cheeks that you remember.

Most memorable items of clothing in bl series in 2023

In order of their airing/me watching them:

I'm thankful I've gotten into the habit of noting which shows I watch and when otherwise I wouldn’t be able to remember. As it is, first on my list is Bed Friend, which kind of sets the tone for this post since it features the best and the worst outfit choices for Uea. The waffle robes and cat ears vs the fake sleeves shirt.

Next is a quick shout out to Por in My School President, since the show started in 2022 but did finish in 2023, and basically all of his outfits. The man is a style icon. But this stripy polo shirt takes the biscuit for me. I need to have it.

On to Moonlight Chicken and this one is a combined effort between Heart and Li Ming. @telomeke prompted me to write a little about it, but essentially the two shirts together are saying 'you're my other half'. Urthe / Tomato sauce.

The Gloves! Need I say more? (Alright, for those of you who don't know - how could you not?! - they're from Chains of Heart).

And now not strictly an item of clothing but an accessory, the most straight ankle bracelet you'll ever see in a thai series. Totally platonic, not gay AT ALL. In Midnight Museum.

In July the different Thai production companies took stock of three versions of the same stripy linin shirt – the cream long-sleeved, the brown short-sleeved, and the charcoal short-sleeved - and proceeded to clad every actor they could in one of them within a three and a half month period (six shows*, eight different characters). We had couple-shirts with both Kawi and Pisaeng and Mew and Top wearing them, and Namneua in Wedding Plan wore all three. (*Step by Step, Be My Favourite, Hidden Agenda, Wedding Plan, Love in Translation, and Only Friends).

Staying in July for a while, and speaking of weddings, Kawi rocked on up to Pearmai and Not's wedding in Be My Favourite in this brown houndstooth shirt and black pants outfit - an almost exact replica of Ray's outfit in the original pilot trailer for Only Friends. I waited with baited breath to see if Ray would still wear the outfit in the actual series...and he did! Not only that, I then realised Uea had already worn it in Bed Friend earlier in the year.

In a surprising turn of events, Be My Favourite – and Krist – turned out to actually be Quite Good. Perhaps distracted by Krist's puppy eyes, we weren't entirely ready for the first appearance of the Dudes shirt – itself a wonderful comment on the narrative since Kawi was figuring out his feelings for Pisaeng – but it was a delight to see it again on Nick in Only Friends, and offering a different narrative comment.

This next one may only be notable for me, but when I was doing my dedicated scan through of oh so many shows to collect items for the communal wardrobe, I noticed this sand and grey sweater amongst the many other items of shared clothing which appeared in The Warp Effect and then very briefly on Pisaeng in Be My Favourite. Not long after, the trailer for Last Twilight dropped and I spotted it again immediately. I've also since noticed it in a speed scan of The Shipper. Not only do I think it's a pretty neat sweater, but I loved the effect it gave in Last Twilight, which I wrote about at the end of this post.

This is getting long but I'm going to keep going (this might be the only 2023 wrap up I do so I'ma make it count).

If you've been following me for a while (or since the BBS days), you’ll know how rabid I go when I see a pair of the yellow-soled Mustard brand shoes in a show. The most recent being in Hidden Agenda worn by Zo…but they're not the ones on this list. Oh no, it's Joke's blue-soled shoes which made me sit up and scream this time...meaning even their shoes were colour-coded in this show. Oh how I wish I could buy a pair of each.

There were many fabulous outfits in Laws of Attraction (especially Charn's) but Tanthai's green rope shirt wins out for me. Green seemed to be used in the show to represent the lies and secrets Tanthai was forced to keep because of his father, and he was metaphorically bound and trapped in these lies and his life. Ah perfection!

I've mentioned a lot of brilliant items but there have also been many awful ones, and the one I can't seem to stop thinking about (or horrifying over) is the Droopy Tits shirt (or Nipple Protector, whichever way you want to call it) which first appeared in Dangerous Romance and then The Jungle just three days later. I'm surprised we haven't seen it again to be honest, but I imagine if we get more spoiled rich kids we probably will.

These next two aren't specific items but more of a shout out to the whole wardrobe design of the shows.

First, Only Friends, with Mew and Ray's transformation to Ray and Sand's (respective) wardrobe choices, as well as the inversion of colours to highlight differences in relationships, and the use of colour-groupings to separate characters (<- a post i have yet to write). I wish I could write more about it…but life is just too busy to give it the time it needs.

The second is, of course, Ai Di and Chen Yi in Kiseki: Dear to Me with how they always share a colour in their different outfits. @respectthepetty details this perfectly here, so I don't need to. I am however still feral about these two and can't wait to do a full re-watch of the show.

And lastly, much like Baseball Mom in Bad Buddy two years ago (and to be honest many of Pat's other shirts), Aof recently gifted us another absolutely ridiculous but brilliantly poignant t-shirt slogan in Mhok's Fart Proudly shirt in Last Twilight, which I went into detail about here. Just A+

The Multichaps

A Fine Line will take you through every emotion. It's smutty and angsty and stressful but it has a happy ending!

illicit affairs is an ongoing multi-chap that's nowhere near finished. emily and aaron sleep together before her first day on the job, when neither knows who the other is. the affair they begin has consequences for years to come.

touchy subject is complete and is an emotional journey. a teenage emily aborted aaron's baby without telling him, and deals with the consequences of that decision in the decades that come after.

impact married Hotchniss are in a car accident that leaves emily in a coma.

the price we pay. I'll start by telling you that Emily's dead. that's not a spoiler, i literally tell you in the comments. this fic sees JJ try to come to terms with her death and her unresolved feelings for Emily at the same time.

Nodus Tollens is annoyingly incomplete. A complicated fic based on the Arizona-Callie-Mark triangle n Greys.

The One-Shots

The Five Stages of Grief are a Myth is a journey, but it does have a happy ending!

phantasmogoria - emily struggles with the trauma of having spent seven months in isolation, with only her own mind for company. hotch is her lifeline.

found family is a cute little fic i wrote for the 'accidental baby acquisition' tag for criminal minds week 2023. the team find a baby.

built a home and watched it burn may or may not stay an angsty one-shot. it's the first chapter of an unfinished fic i took down a while ago, in which emily and aaron are getting divorced.

Eulogy is an angsty af one-shot of JJ and Hotch telling Emily about the Paris plan.

You'll Always Be My Person is angsty Jemily fluff that I woudn't say has a happy ending, but it's sweet and short.

Habits is a cute little Jemily drabble.

in love with you is Emily POV Jemily angst.

So of course they had to try make sense of the situation and contain it before is spread and spiralled out into a complete and total clusterfuck!!

Whatever had been going on or how it had been caused was a mystery but given how some of those shipping crates bite the logo of Arasaka? It had to be some major corporate espionage bullshit, that was for sure, especially when one could make out the ominous presence of the one and only Adam Smasher himself. Arasaka’s resident cybernetic attack dog, the bogeyman of Night City, California himself who they say was more machine than man these days…and had a reputation for taking any job for his bosses so long as he knew how much collateral he could get away with. Given that he had filled entire graveyards on Arasaka’s orders, that especially said a lot so it was imperative whatever the situation was, it had to be minimalists before that walking tank turned this harbour into a slaughterhouse.

Case in point of course being this pint sized shortstack of a cyborg girl who’d been pinned down under heavy fire, and whose collection of weaponry was only matched or exceeded by her potty mouth. After enough distance to be considered safe and sound with the clusterfuck seeming to die down, no doubt Arasaka deciding to cut their losses and call their killing machine back on his leash, The hero in training ducked into a quiet warehouse and gently placed down the cyber girl atop a crate. Now came the question of what to do with this errant little renegade, who so thoughtfully introduced herself as Rebecca.....after a very lengthy and profanity laden round of insults sent his way of course. But once she calmed down enough, she co-operated just a bit to brief him on what exactly the hell had just happened there that got so bad that she almost risked becoming just another casualty in the Adam Smasher.

Just so happens Rebecca was part of a small little misfit gang of mercs known as edgerunners, guns for hire when it came to tasks involving corporate espionage and sabotage among other things of which to name a few. Such individuals almost always tended to be cyborgs, composed of those among the population who were quirkless and/or especially needed a means to get by and survive in today's world and naturally along with omnics lead to a veritable distinct sub culture of gang warfare, hackers and others and Rebecca's crew, among which included her older brother had been in the middle of their latest job. Wasn't anything much, just a simple smash and grab run stealing some fancy tech equipment, turned out their client forgot to mention the competitor they were stealing from had been Arasaka and the security was high level enough that it was no wonder Adam Smasher was involved. But fortunately her crew had made their escape but she'd been too pinned down by heavy fire to make her own exit and so here she was now looking at some likely jail time.

Finally, a man dressed in a cowl advised the builder to dedicate part of the building as a chapel in order to put an end to the mischief. After this had happened and the goblin appeared again, an invisible force hurled him against the corner pillar and turned him into stone. All attempts to remove this strange figure of a climbing cat failed. But construction work now progressed quickly.

At midnight, the goblin, enchanted in stone, descends and at the witching hour wanders through Poplitz in the form of a small, grey man with fiery eyes and short, crooked legs.

Ethymology: In fact, the name of the figure has nothing to do with boogers. Since it is derived from the name of the place, one has to look at the origin of that name. Poplitz originates from the Sorbian word for ash, so Poplitz means "ash place".

It doesn't matter if it takes weeks, months or even years to gain their approval. As long as you two are together, he'll try whatever it takes to win your parents favor — hell, all of your family if you tell him to.

So he was beyond relieved when all of his efforts paid off and your family eventually agreed to let you marry him. After the meeting, he didn't even stop by anywhere and got back home as soon as possible to you. Hitoshi shinsou Has his own coffee brand, being a hero who mainly works in the late hours of the night because of his insomnia he drinks a lot of coffee. so his PR team brought it up one day maybe he could make something out of his coffee addiction. Bringing forth the coffee brand “midnight coffee” the coffee perfect for night owls, it comes in three roasts “will to live light roast” “midnight motivation dark roast” “sleep fighter medium roast” the coffee brand became big with cafes, and shinsou made an effort to not charge the normal coffee price to cat cafe’s. He felt like they had enough money to spend on taking care of the cats.

Naturally when shinsou married, he married someone who was also a night owl. So you usually worked night patrols just like shinsou. On theses shifts you usually stocked up with redbull, monster, rockstar- really any energy drink that you liked that you could get your hands on. Always mindful of how much caffeine you drink, because in the early hours of the morning, when the sun comes up over the horizon and your patrol handoffs are just out of reach, your phone will ding, exactly 6:46am at the end of each shift

You grab your coffee sitting down in a bean bag next to him, immediately a calico cat named Muffin runs up next you demanding to be loved. For the next hour you and shinsou unwind drinking coffee, talking about your shifts before ultimately deciding it’s time to go home. Before you leave you notice paparazzi had gathered around outside, someone must have tipped them off that pro hero Mindjack and his s/o were seen entering this cafe. You two hardly go out during the day so the paparazzi were eager to jump on the chance to see you two. You knew you two would be the topic of next weeks article.

People came here and almost all of the cats have been adopted, people are loving the coffee so we will need a new shipment soon and don’t worry, your favorites are still here” she beamed up at you two and handed you your usual coffee. Making your way to the back there were definitely less cats than usual and more people. Sitting in the bean bag chairs you notice two cats are still there and running for your laps. As you two set down the adoption papers on the coffee table labeled “ash” and “muffin”
