thinking bout the c!dream god humansona au again like… imagine you’re a random person, and you’re suddenly disorientingly plucked from your life, have like thirty languages all shoved into your head at once, and then you’re suddenly forced by a god poorly disguising himself as a human (but no human has glowing golden eyes, no human stares so unblinkingly) to play house with him and you’re punished for not abiding to rules that make no sense for eons straight. to the point where you forget what normal life is like- you don’t even remember what place or time you come from, it’s all mashed together with your fellow captives, you don’t remember any friends or family, and you forget how to act like a person and not as a doll trying desperately to appease a god who can and will use his omnipotence to inflict unimaginable agony if pissed off enough. even if you were sent home, you wouldn’t know how to be a real person and not a play-pretend version again. you’ve bonded so much with your fellow captives you don’t even want to leave, knowing that you’d never see them again. you feel pity more than anything for the god pretending to be a man desperately and pathetically, even if you and him cannot connect on any real level, being more alien to each other than a human would be to an amoeba. you don’t remember your personality outside your assigned role, and deep down you know it’s incomprehensible to even you. you have nightmares every night. and what fills you with the most dread is knowing that these eons of torment, of confusion and pain and of losing yourself, are an insignificant, minuscule portion of the horrific eternity you’ll have, one that'll stretch on past infinity and never fundamentally change. you’ll never meet anyone new never age never grow never die. and the worst part is that each agonising millennia that drags on you find a comfort in that. you forget you’re even captive, you forget there’s a world outside of this cage. and then the realisation hits you and it’s like being torn away from home forever all over again.
this is the experience of all of c!dream's chosen “favourites”, by default. even those like c!tubbo, who he’s completely ambivalent towards rarely even interacts with and entirely chose because he thought c!tommy would like him. this is the least horrifying experience of the 30+ individual people being used as bit characters in a slice of life roleplay unwillingly. and then there’s people like poor c!tommy, who's the favourite and the amount of time he's spent not being constantly subject to both c!dream's wrath and his often incredibly traumatic and horrifying attempts to understand humanity could probably be measured in hours, out of incomprehensible billions of years spent trapped in the world's worst larp. like yeah c!dream is very endearing in this au bc he’s genuinely non malicious but like. he’s also inflicted genuinely unfathomable physical and mental torture for trillions of years on innocent people, some of whom are children (and c!tommy is not the youngest, i mean, mikey b is there so he’s definitely not). like it unironically is a cosmic horror story just a very darkly humorous one.

Octonauts Star Trek AU
These are mostly notes about Shellington and Dashi’s roles as joint Second Officers.
Shellington
Full name: Shellington Holmes
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Species: Human (country of origin: coastal Scotland)
Family: Pearl Holmes (older sister), Peri Holmes (nephew)
He has a doctorate in exobiology, and is particularly interested in marine biology.
Chief science officer aboard the USS Nautilus. He also handles ship navigation and linguistic interpretation.
He is okay at flying the Nautilus (provided that Dashi is copiloting), but he is terrible at shuttle piloting. He’s also scared of heights.
Often a key part of away missions that involve scouting out planets.
Very good with children. He even has his own adopted son, Tunip, whom he found on an unknown planet.
Tunip and his siblings were still eggs when Shellington found them. Wanting to study the eggs (but actually wanting to keep them safe), he brought them aboard the Nautilus and kept watch over them day and night until they hatched. Tunip and the others immediately imprinted on him.
Quickly learned that Tunip’s species was highly intelligent. Worried that he might have broken the Prime Directive by taking the eggs. However, Shellington can’t return Tunip to his home planet. The little guy’s already very attached to him, and he’s learned too much about Starfleet to be set loose on a planet that hasn’t had contact in years.
Dashi
Full name: Dashi Omura
Rank: Lt. Commander
Species: Trill (joined). She is the fifth host of the Mar symbiont.
Chief of ship operations. Very good at flying the Nautilus.
Has a younger sister, Koshi, who is a science ensign under Shellington’s watch.
Other notes:
Shellington is the official Second Officer, according to the ship’s register. However, he prefers to share the position with the more confident Dashi.
Dashi programmed the universal translator to give her an Australian accent when translating her native tongue to English. She also figured out how to keep Shellington’s Scottish accent when translating his English to Trill.
Without the translation technology, Dashi only speaks broken, heavily accented English— as Shellington finds out when the universal translator malfunctions.
Dashi feels very self-conscious about her “poor” English. She makes every possible effort to keep her crewmates from learning the truth. In addition to the shipboard translator, she also carries a personal translator at all times.
When this translator breaks during an away mission with Shellington, Dashi is very stressed. How will they communicate? And more importantly, what will her best friend think of her now that her secret is out?
Fortunately, Shellington is A) very understanding and patient, and B) knows several alien languages, including Trill. And he’s more than willing to personally give Dashi English lessons.
They’re nearly inseparable. They were classmates at Starfleet Academy, and they clicked right away.
Both enjoy holodeck LARPing.
Pearl and Peri
Pearl was originally assigned to a different ship, but asked to be transferred to the Nautilus to be closer to her brother.
Has been raising Peri mostly on her own. (She and Peri’s father separated soon after Peri was born.)
Rank: Lieutenant
Comes from a family of scientists and engineers.
Peri takes after both his mom and uncle. Full of curiosity! He also has an interest in engineering — even building his own starship models.
Other notes, continued
Both Shellington and Dashi maintain the appearance of model Starfleet officers, but they are anything but that.
Shellington plays the harp and occasionally the bagpipes. He is not very good at the latter.
His quarters has a saltwater aquarium— a big one. He keeps reef fish and other creatures in it.
“I’m a biologist, not a doctor!”
— Shellington, every other mission (some people don’t understand that he only studies life-forms and he can’t heal them.)

Getting a look at your WIP folder is so interesting!
I couldn't decide if I wanted to ask about the LARP AU one or one of the philias or Hell Patrol 3 and therefore decided on "per our stoned conversation" solely because it sounds really really fun 😊
Hellooo! I tried to post this twice already and it wouldn't save so I hope this time works <3 This is a recent WIP, started in October just to have something to stretch my writing muscles (and so honestly the whole beginning scene doesn't make sense for the rest of it. Lots of editing to do!) and then I just started to absolutely love it. So this is definitely one of those ones that'll be posted.... one day LMAO Under the cut - Rated M - Steddie WIP Folder Ask Game
Eddie's spine does something where he curls in on himself for a second before he seems to pick himself up like he's got a puppet string attached to his head, and he nods.
"Right, that," he says, a visible swallow highlighting his throat. "Sooo…"
Steve waits, blinking slowly at him.
He seems nervous, had seemed straight up anxious on the phone, but given how Steve's lived through so much bullshit he's not about to start getting nervous himself unless there's a good reason for it.
The sudden realization that no matter what, he trusts Eddie - even if he knows the guy's a good liar - glimmers up in his chest like he's put some heavy metal fairy dust in there.
It's as thrilling as it is a big fucking relief.
"So," Eddie coughs awkwardly, scratching lightly at the corner of his mouth. "Do you remember the last time we got high? And how we both got really fucked up and it was all really cool and fun but there was… we had some uh… Conversations…"
Ohhh, okay. He's got this.
Steve tilts his head at him, the way he knows drives women crazy when he's being sweet even as he's offering them something that's probably the most sexually adventurous they'll ever get.
"Yeah, I remember," he says, his smile real but carefully practiced anyway. "Is this about the existential crisis thing? Or is it about the weird sex stuff thing?"
Eddie stares blankly at him, the little furrow coming back.
"What existential crisis thing? Am I forgetting a whole…" he waves his hand around, abrupt and a little agitated. "A whole crisis?"
Steve shakes his head, his smile breaking out it's perfected prison as he can't help but laugh. Eddie's cute in a way that forces him to be honest.
"Maybe? It wasn't really a crisis and more like wondering about space and stuff," he says, downplaying the extremely intense discussion they had about humanity and aliens and time. "It doesn't matter, what's up with the sex talk? If it was too much I can like, tone it down."
He's got the feeling that usually precedes a three-pointer, or the knowledge he just swam his fastest lap, two things he hasn't accomplished in ages, and it's good, it tells him that Eddie is so not bringing this up to tell Steve he was being too much.
Still, it's an easy offer and an easy out. Steve hopes he doesn't take it, but as much as he likes watching him squirm, he doesn't want him to be like legit uncomfortable.
"No it was…" Eddie sighs, looking up at the ceiling. "Good. It was really good."
Steve's heart skips through a sunny meadow.
"Yeah? I thought so too," he says, sitting up on his elbows, letting his shirt pull tightly over his chest. "I told you some things that I've only ever kept in my head."
Eddie's nerves disintegrate like sugar in water, the puppetmaster above him loosening the tight strings that held him tense.
"Yeah," he breathes, smiling down at him. "I've been thinking about it."
Steve could take a bite out of him; though judging by the new things he learned about him, that's more Eddie's thing. Maybe both of them could have it as a thing, he'd have to try it out.
"What've you been thinking?" He asks, satisfaction dripping hot under his skin. "Anything in particular?"
Eddie nods, his eyes catching on Steve's chest where his nipples push against the fabric of his shirt. Steve watches him lose himself for a moment, another heavy swallow breaking him out of his little trance, his eyes snapping back up to meet Steve's.
"Uh, yes," he chokes out, swallowing again. "A few things, and maybe we could talk about them all, but there's definitely something I… I honestly can't stop wondering about."
Steve's grateful that a "sorry" doesn't slip out of Eddie's mouth at all, because the last thing he wants is for either of them to get into the habit of apologizing to each other for shit that doesn't need it, but Eddie does seem like he's close to it.
"Tell me," he whispers, letting his hips tilt out casually as he adjusts the way he's laying.
Maybe the way he looks up at him through his eyelashes and smiles is laying it on thick, but it works. He knows it does, because Eddie's thighs tense up as his breath catches. It's nice that this works on men too, because he thinks if Eddie pulled it with him he'd be the one trying to be subtle as he clenched his fists at his sides, cheeks getting a little redder.
"I-I… Jesus Christ, okay," he says, tilting his head back with his eyes closed. "You said uh, you said you want to be used, like in a specific way, I…"

what does dirk talk to his friends about in your au? i noticed in your Dave Strider Hatethoughts drawing dirk's orange pesterchum soliloquy is broken up by a small amount of pink text. is roxy his go-to person to talk to?
roxy... this post is going to focus on Roxy because it became a bit too long to include the other two.
since we have established the existence of carapacians in this au having evolved parallel to humans (working on a prospective biology workup for them right now... don't hold your breath though), we decided that Roxy would likely live in a carapacian community similar to canon. there is so much to say about a society with another sentient species coexisting within it, we have talked about it for hours and hours and I don't think it's reasonable to synopsize it all efficiently into one post... subcultures of all kinds do tend to congregate together, though, so just picture a congested little NYC carapacian neighborhood and now picture that Roxy grew up there. I imagine carapacians evaded "nuclear family" propaganda and have much more community-centered child rearing methods because of that (aligning nicely with both the bug and chess army motifs), so she was likely raised not just by parents but all her neighbors too. a human child raised by carapacians... not unheard of but certainly a bit novel. they would adore her, of course. along these lines not all carapacians are as sentient/smart as humans (deuce vs. slick) so I imagine as she enters her teens it'd be a lot similar to how one takes care of an elderly parent just beginning to enter the throes of dementia. a bit like how she has to feed her neighbors in canon and help them with little tasks and such, how she needs to help them escape the red miles... likely this impacts the way she thinks of dirk; I can only imagine growing up in an environment like that primes you to be something of an unthanked caretaker. practically a reflex for her.
I think it's important that Roxy is an equal kind of isolated from the world (or humanity) that Dirk is. this, in addition to the fact that just being in proximity to Dave by degree of separation of alpha rose would set dirk off so bad they could literally never be friends because of it (even though they would meet before the disillusionment kicks in; afterwards he wouldn't be able to tolerate it. it would be all he could think about. he is quite obsessive like that). and so on. the isolation itself is important because of the intrinsic parallels of dirk and roxy both living on the fringes of society (trailer park vs carapace slum). roxy, at least, had a community. she had a family. she had sentient beings who cared about her, even if they were a bit disconnected from human culture. regarding her schooling, if she's in a carapace community she'd go to the school they all go to, ergo there would be more carapaces in the student body than, say, a school in a yuppie district. her school would, likely, have a body of human students, but I don't think a lot of the other humans would've been carapacian adoptees like her. likely a bit alienated due to this fact. (aside regarding alpha rose: I think Roxy would've been a teen pregnancy given up at birth. not sure how she would've ended up with the carapacians though. a plot point for future rumination.)
regarding drinking habits: I think they know but she hides it well. and everyone is busy... no one specifically is doing on her or tending to her. their social standards for child rearing are different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As an overview of their actual relationship, Roxy has the special privilege of being dirk's very first friend. I imagine that she and dirk met on IRC chats at a young age trolling. perhaps having a conversation larping as people who are freakishly interested in whatever topic of the channel they went on, saying increasingly ridiculous shit until they both get banned, at which point they add each other. this has to have been when they were around 10-11 (c. 2000-2002). Pre-4chan... she would have been present with him through it all. Almost 100% certainly the only person on the planet who knows the extent of what he went through (and what he is ACTIVELY going through at their moment of meeting). He is a pretty secretive guy even in the comic (ohh dirk hiding your plans and being elusive again are you -all of the alpha kids) but Roxy... I think it's a combination of the fact that they made contact just before dirk was edified to the fact that everything his guardian was doing to him wasn't the norm. she would've witnessed the aftermath of that, and was possibly even the one to explain it to him (bro obviously wouldn't sign the sex ed permission slip). I have a lot of thoughts about how this conversation would go, and I don't think it would really hit the same just factually talking about it here. perhaps deserving of its own... post... or fanfiction... or mspfa. to be decided.
Their relationship, to me, is... sweet, truly. A lot of Dirk's time spent on the library computers after school just talking to her for hours as one of the few things in his life he has to look forward to... I don't think he'll ever fully be able to be a "friend" to her in the traditional sense, but I genuinely feel that she would not be bothered by this since they've been around each other for so long. She knows that is just how he is, by which I mean that the way he comports himself in almost any interaction is so stunted that I think any other person raised under any other conditions would get very upset at his interpersonal and overly sarcastic/acerbic decorum. somehow something about her struck a sweet spot in him where he does care enough about her and actively likes her enough to enjoy her presence but he's also not compelled to throw his whole weight into her or spend all his time around her, etc. it's genuinely unusual for him. he probably will not find this balance with another person ever again in his life. he's too all or nothing.
I think the magic of the internet is that it enables these little types of connections... people who drastically change your life for the better out of a completely happenstance encounter. would dirk have tried to kill himself much earlier if he hadn't met her? it's likely.
as a side note... I'm not sure dirk could've befriended Roxy (or any of his friends, for that matter) if he had known them in real life. I think he is the kind of walking victimized man that is very hard to befriend because his behavior is genuinely so off-putting and rude. nobody with any shred of self-confidence, or self-worth, would tolerate being constantly put down over their interests, especially over a large swathe of years. if he's like this online, I can only imagine what he'd be act like in real life, especially combined with the disordered prosody that often comes after severe childhood abuse and subsequent disfigurement (metaphorically) of one's vagal tuning. (aside: remind me to write my polyvagal dirk post.) a bit rancid, really. i think, certainly, that he is aware of this, of how bad he is at interacting with people. he likely he brushes it off as something that he COULD be good at if he wanted to... but he doesn't. because he dislikes people oh so very much. why should he waste time on learning to be around the common populace? to make himself more tolerable? he's more superior while simultaneously being vastly inferior in a breathtaking display of self-deprecative cognitive dissonance fueled by the classic nihilist dilemma and his brain's only attempt at convincing itself he shouldn't jump off the nearest bridge.
along these lines, I do think roxy and dirk have had numerous incidents where they were remarkably shitty to each other. roxy w/ alcoholism and sexual harassment of course and dirk with his battery acid personality. like... that's just life. that's friendship, especially in preteen years. these are two kids who are affected to varying degrees by their respective upbringings and they WILL be stepping on each others' toes. that's what happens when you're a kid. it sucks and you suck and you take it out on each other because your brain isn't fully developed yet. doubly/TRIPLY so if you are severely traumatized and your brain subsequently wired itself to have very poor control over its emotional reactions... (having to do with messed up wiring between the prefrontal cortex and amygdala, among other structures like the periaqueductal gray, which is responsible for freeze/flight defense patterns. I posted papers about this here before but here's one of them again.) which is what communication is for. neither of them have any other friends (at the start, at least), so I genuinely don't think either of them would've had the option that a lot of people tend to take nowadays of just abruptly ghosting after a conflict or ditching someone because they hold an opinion that clashes with one of yours. when stuff like this happens with dirk and roxy they would have no choice but to either 1) avoid the issue, leading to festering childish resentment until they 2) confront it poorly, with very pointed words and accusations and passive aggression as, again, children are wont to utilize due to inherent lack of maturity, until they can 3) confront it kind of okay style. picturing this progression occurring as they age and their brains grow a little more.
slightly related scenario as an aside, I keep pondering a scenario in which roxy meets jane and begins replying a little late to dirk on occasion (having simultaneous convos). when he finds out why he kind of spirals about being "replaced". could possibly be how he and jane meet, since roxy would attempt to diffuse the situation by sticking them in a group chat together or whatever the mid-2000s equivalent of that was. or just give him Jane's pesterchum handle. i keep forgetting that we can use pesterchum as a convenient anachronism avoidance measure. this would've been the perfect segue into a Jane segment but I think this is enough worldbuilding for one post. did I even answer your question... absolutely yes she is his go-to person to talk to. I think his friendships with Jane and Jake would not be as "deep" as theirs just by virtue of everything listed above. they've #beenthroughitall.

will there be more content in the larping au because I just saw ur fic on ao3 and I am LOVING it, obviously no pressure if this was just a one and done thing tho lol
Yep! I actually posted the fic on a03 as the start to the series, because it gives some much needed context. Right now I'm currently through Chapter 1 of c!Quackity's POV of all this going down. I really want to focus in on his handling of all of this, and give c!Dream some much needed character screentime to settle him. I have plans for at least 2-4 more chapters after this one, respectively featuring Quackity's figuring everything out properly, his initial refusal followed by c!Sapnap discovering what he did, Dream trying to mend bridges (both his own with Quackity and Sapnap & Quackity), and then Quackity coming to terms with himself as he watches Sam spiral further down.
I've got one scene between Quackity and Dream that I'm really excited for, because I think it'll help really illustrate the alienness of Dream and his POV on everything.

full human au reference sheets! designs for the two when they’re older (about in their 20′s)!
some things of note:
zim carries a backpack around, usually with some supplies and medication. it makes it much easier to go exploring and ghost hunting in the woods, too!
the irken symbol and swollen eyeball symbol are part of their ‘larp’ universe. since they’ve bonded so much over the whole ‘alien menace’ thing, the symbols have been ingrained in their clothing so they can be cute tm
dib can walk without his cane, but only for a little while before he ends up in so much pain he can’t. he’s got a noticeable limp, and usually wears knee braces under his jeans.
their rings match. yes, they think they’re cute. additionally, they both got married pretty young! (as in, their teen years)
more full human au found here!

ANOTHER BUSY DAY IN THE ANDROMEDA GALAXY
I started the day running errands on Havarl, culminating with finishing off Jaal’s loyalty mission! I took Vetra with us thinking ‘hey, if anyone knows sibling dynamics...’ but then she factored into all of that absolutely 0%, lol @ me. but no matter! Jaal was super flirty as we made our way to the Forge, and it was adorable when he was like “HERE MEET MY FRIEND SO YOU CAN SEE AKKSUL IS WRONG” and bodily dragged me toward his siblings. their fight was absorbing and intense; I LEGIT GASPED WHEN HIS SISTER SHOT HIS BROTHER. LIKE!! the whole confrontation with Akksul felt super weighty and I really enjoyed it-- keeping my trigger discipline to not shoot that dude was really hard! there was a split second there where his bolt was headed toward Jaal’s face and I was like “if I kill off Jaal in his loyalty mission I’ll be so upset” but nope it all worked out, he has a bitchin cheek scar now, and the respect of his people, and I got a forehead touch so y’know. i melted. GOSH. then I died laughing at Akksul’s not-apology email.
now Jaal wants me to meet his mom(s) but Helen said that’ll lock in the romance, so I’ll probably wait just a little longer so I can uh keep having FWB sex with Peebee and ?maybe??? flirt with Vetra at some point? altho I teasingly called her MOM last time we were in Kadara Port so maybe not. (Jaal still hates it there, he’s so grumpy and it’s cute, but I digress)
this one got even longer than usual so doing a cut
one thing that I really like, that the game navigates in interesting ways, is that to the angara, we’re all just “Milky Way people.” like. so much of the original trilogy is about navigating the differences between all these aliens, and like, some of that is here too, esp with the krogan, but it’s actually really neat the way we’ve flattened out. and even with the krogan it’s still night and day-- like. comparing what Tuchanka is like in ME2 when Wrex is still solidifying his status as warlord is miles away from what it’s like for me to wander around New Tuchanka or, especially, just run into random krogan out and about (like the nice water scouts. WHY COULDN’T I JUST GIVE THEM THE WATER? but I’m getting ahead of myself). I know some of it has the Watsonian explanation of, like, only forward-thinking, open-minded krogan would be interested in the Initiative in the first place, and some of it is the Doylist explanation of ‘well people really liked that Charr/Ereba romance so let’s have more sweetie pie krogan’ but like. overall. it’s interesting, and I’m sure there’s more angles I haven’t considered.
I traced more of those comm buoys for Addison and learned that the doctor she’s obsessed with ran away to get pregnant! I definitely read that whole situation as Addison being in love with this lady and tbh it still doesn’t refute it? but I won’t get any more progress until I make a new outpost. the whole idea of ‘the first human baby born in Heleus’ thing is really cool, though, and I’m invested.
then I went to Elaaden! I feel some kind of way about Lexi diagnosing all of these scavengers with Brain Disease, but I can’t put my finger on it exactly-- other than, I guess, my general discomfort with pathologizing criminality. I was glad she said we couldn’t vaccinate people without their consent, but the whole thing smacks as very... self-conscious on the part of the game creators? like they thought people would say “hey it’s a huge plot hole that the Initiative screened every person before putting them on the arks and yet so many of them do crimes, explain that to me” and they were like “oh yeah shit that makes no sense, it’s not like people faced with the existential crisis of being in a brand new place 600 years away from everything they’ve ever known with no way back and not enough resources and multiple things wanting to kill them might just make desperate, risky choices, that’s not good enough, obviously we need to explain it with BRAIN DISEASE.” come on.
I made it to New Tuchanka, where the postings on the terminals are literally my favorite part of this whole game. THE ONE KROGAN WHO WANTS GINGERBREAD. THE ONE WHO DOESN’T WANT TO FOCUS ON CONS AND SUGGESTS A “PRO-VERSATION.” THE ONE ABOUT THE “PROBLETUNITY” OF MATING SUGGESTING WATCHING KRANTT HARDLY WAIT. THE ONE WHO INVENTED BLOOD RAGE FOR GUN TURRETS. but also, the best one, my favorite one of all: KRANTT THE RAGENING LARP. there is nothing I would not give to play Krantt: The Ragening.
I sort of tripped and fell and decided to finish Drack’s loyalty mission even though I intended to do more Elaaden things first, and that was a blast. Vorn is so presh! and also Drack is my dad so there’s that. I loved that Vorn helped save the day with a poison vegetable, and I love that Kesh pretended not to like the flower he got her. it was like-- okay. real talk, I just spent like 20 minutes trying to find proof that there is, in fact, a scene in parks and rec where someone gives April a friendship bracelet and she pretended to hate it until they threatened to take it back and could not find it ANYWHERE and felt so gaslit until I realized that that scene was not about April at all but Louise Belcher so. GOOD JOB ME. anyway. it was like that. kesh pretending her comm was broken when Tann tried to talk to her is the oldest joke in the book but I laughed anyway.
and then I TOOK SPENDER DOWN FOR GOOD. I’m a little miffed that neither Kesh nor Tann got to be in on that discussion; like, I recognize he was Addison’s underling but given all the bullshit he pulled with the krogan I especially felt Kesh deserved to be there? at one point there was a dialogue tree where I could either say it was Addison’s fault or Spender’s fault, and I picked the latter because I think they both such but Spender sucks worse, but in hindsight I wish I’d stuck it to Addison more because my dialogue was way too nice. when faced with the choice of jailing or exiling Spender, I picked jail despite my desire to defund Nexus Militia because I was scared if I exiled him he’d just come back as a worse enemy because of all his off-station contacts. when reviewing the choice in the codex, though, it narrativized my choice by saying I imprisoned him knowing he “would never survive life on the run from his former associates.” that wasn’t my assumption at all! quite the opposite! I jailed him thinking he’d start a coup from without if I didn’t, and it’s really interesting to me that the game isn’t framing that as a concern Ryder would have reasonably had. anyway, now Brecka has his job, which is good because Brecka is the best.
before leaving I unlocked my last memory, and SURPRISE MY MOM IS ALIVE. WELL. FOR A GIVEN DEFINITION OF ALIVE. i don’t know why I’m surprised; of course my dad sucked that much. but also, the fact that all of that got nestled in with the reaper ‘reveal’ (if you can call it that) felt... very strange? like. this is such a personal, emotional thing for Ryder. obviously for the player harkening back to the trilogy is supposed to be a gut wrench, and objectively, yes, I can see how the knowledge that they might have narrowly escaped certain death is a big deal, but like. the reapers aren’t HERE. they aren’t relevant. my MOM, on the other hand, is and is, apparently! it’s occurring to me I didn’t even try to find her mis-labeled pod, I was so turned around by all the benefactor stuff after the fact. anyway.
swung by Kadara to get drinks with Drack and had an epic bar fight, and then Lexi p much lectured us both abt it because Drack is like 90% spit and duct tape at this point. him talking about raising Kesh giving him a new lease on life was VERY sweet, tho, and his line about how parents aren’t the finish line, they’re the starting line was very good.
went back to Elaaden, which Jaal called “a big planet” while discussing hunting someone down and AU CONTRAIRE, JAAL, IT IS A MOON. wish I’d had Drack with me when I found Annea’s water because I bet he would have had better dialogue than Cora, but alas. felt very weird giving control of the reservoir to the Nexus, but like. Annea being like “you can’t, this is my emotional support monopoly on a vital natural resource” just wasn’t gonna fly with how I’m playing Ryder. I was gratified to hear the Nexus guy at Paradise say we were giving the water to everyone, including krogan and scavengers, because I 100% did not trust Tann not to overrule him with some shitty call.
then I went to the Remnant ship to stop Morda from making a bomb out of the drive core, and it was all going swimmingly until I traced the signal to that cave inside the flophouse and suddenly my triangle button stopped working, making me unable to activate the console. YIKES. a quick google of the issue tells me that this mission is buggy for a lot of people and reloading from an earlier save tends to help, but I tried that and the issue persisted so I gave up for the evening. hopefully a fresh start tomorrow and time for the ps4 to cool off is all that is required.

A Void Between Two Stars
Chapter 9 (final chapter!)
Fandom: Akatsuki no Yona Series: Alien Larp AU Wordcount: 27,063 (total) Characters: Suwon, Judo, Keishuk, Minsu, Zeno, Kyoga, Yonhi, misc OCs Ships: there are several spaceships
The latest installment of my sci-fi au, in which Suwon is an AI leading Kouka in a rebellion against his former extraterrestrial masters. When the connection between the AI and its human host is severed, Suwon–both of them–must learn to live as only half of himself, while Judo faces the challenge of trying to figure out which one, man or machine, is truly his king.
For more info about the AU and other works in the series, check out the series masterpost. Thank you to my beta readers @greymantleish and @luckyfilbert!
Keep reading below the cut or read from the beginning on AO3.
Judo looked up from his paperwork at the sound of tapping at his office door. “His Majesty wants to see you, General,” said Minsu.
“Oh? Which one?”
Minsu looked down. “His—his human majesty,” he said. Nearly two weeks had passed since Minsu learned the full truth about Suwon. If Judo was to guess, he’d say that the kid had taken it badly—more closed off than he ever had been, he didn’t even try to broach the subject with Judo. Not that Judo would’ve had much to say to him.
So maybe telling the king he should share his secret had been a bad idea. Damn, could Judo do anything right? “I’ll go to him,” he muttered, and Minsu nodded and turned away.
Suwon wasn’t in his chambers, but if Minsu had just seen him, he couldn’t have gone far. Judo found him looking over the castle walls, gazing upwards towards the sky. The first thing he noticed, besides the king’s wistful expression, was that he was wearing the circlet again. He hadn’t stopped, that day that he and Judo fought—but he’d stopped wearing it all the time. And even Judo had to admit that, used in moderation, it had helped Suwon adjust to life as a purely human being. He’d been wearing it less and less, using a communicator like Judo’s or relying on Minsu and Keishuk to carry messages instead. “What happened?” Judo asked. If the king needed to be in direct communication with his other half, it must be something serious.
Suwon looked down at Judo and smiled—and the smile might’ve even been real. “Lady Yonhi and Lady Seihwa jumped back into our system today,” he said.
“You mean—with their ship.”
“With Kouka’s ship.” They had been gone for over two months. Dealing with the fallout of the attack, Judo hadn’t realized they’d be returning so soon. “It’s sooner than I expected, too,” said Suwon, reading Judo’s expression. “Nevertheless, I believe it’s time. It will take a week or so to assemble the delegation, but after that, the sooner we set out, the better.”
Judo agreed. Starting a week ago, the Company had sent more forces—and Suwon wouldn’t have told Judo at all if Judo hadn’t pressed him about the strange lights they saw in the sky one night. Suwon—the computer—had calmly noted that the more ships they sent, the easier it became to hijack them and send them back. Or simply capture them, in the case of the unmanned ships. Judo had wondered about those—and finally, after considerable pressure, Suwon had admitted that those ships had come with the intent not to capture, but to destroy himtaking out the entire palace if necessary. Suwon was confident that the Company wouldn’t get past his defenses again, but Judo didn’t like it one bit. Once Kouka made their appeal to the galactic congress, the Company would be under much closer watch, and wouldn’t risk another physical assault—both Suwon and Keishuk assured him of that.
“Lady Yonhi will lead the delegation, I assume?” She was the one who’d stood against the Company since the beginning, after all.
“Yes. Lady Seihwa will be going again, but merely as a witness. I would like to send a representative from each of Kouka’s tribes, though I’m not sure just how feasible that will be.”
“Right.” Suwon had suggested that this whole affair might take months, and the tribes could hardly spare their generals for so long. Not all five of them, at any rate.
“And in the interest of representing more of our world than just Kouka, the first princess of Xing will attend as well.”
Judo blinked. “When the hell did you manage to arrange that? How did you arrange it?”
“You remember our meeting with the second princess.” It had been the day everything fell apart—the reason they had been in Kuuto in the first place. The meeting went well, but in the confusion afterwards, there had been no follow-up. Or so Judo had thought. “I gave her a communicator like yours. Fortunately, she and her party were out of the city by the time of the attack. I’ve been in contact with her ever since I came back online.”
Judo started. This was the first indication Suwon had given that he was speaking for the computer, not merely including him in the conversation. He still did that from time to time, too—and if Judo called him out on it, no doubt he’d say something about how it was merely a matter of convenience; he wasn’t trying to be someone else. Judo supposed he believed it. With matters like this, the two of them were so nearly the same that it hardly mattered if he knew who was speaking. “The second princess was willing enough to work with you,” Judo allowed. “What about the first?” Princess Tao had said it herself back at that meeting: her sister’s grudge against Kouka was too strong to reach any sort of agreement, even if the entire world was threatened.
“Tao is quite clever,” said Suwon. “She noticed I was always available to answer her, no matter the time. At that point, I decided there was little harm in telling her the truth. Ah...once Kouren learned that I was not Yuhon’s son, but rather the one who killed and replaced him—that’s how she understands it—she was all too happy to work with me.”
“Then she doesn’t know about…both of you.”
“She will,” said Suwon. “I’ll be going too.”
For an instant, Judo couldn’t speak. Then— “You bloody well will not! If Kouka can’t spare its generals, we certainly can’t spare you!”
“Kouka won’t need to,” said Suwon. “I’ll still be here. This is one instance where my separation can work to our advantage. Making our case before the galactic congress will be difficult enough. But as a human, I’m now someone they’ll acknowledge. I can speak to them myself, where I never could before.”
Judo recalled all of Arouk’s talk of Suwon’s “freedom,” all their disdain for who Suwon really turned out to be. “You’re not planning to tell them you were ever connected to the AI, are you?” He gave an exasperated sigh. “If you’re going, I’ll be going too, then.” He didn’t know the first thing about what it would take to protect his king in a world of monsters and technologies he hadn’t even imagined. “Tell me sooner when you’re planning something like this! I should—”
“Judo,” Suwon said. “You won’t be going. I need you with me here.”
...because how else would Suwon rule Kouka when his human self was gone? Still, Judo fought against it. “It’s too dangerous. Not only are those Company bastards going to try to do unspeakable things to you if they realize you’re Kouka’s AI, but Kouren will try to kill you if she learns you’re not!”
“I’m not asking you to leave my side,” said Suwon, leaving no room for argument. “I’m asking you to stay by it.”
“You will take guards.” Anyone he took, they’d eventually learn the truth, too.
“Of course,” Suwon assured him. Then, “I am not entirely defenseless, you know.”
“...go, then,” Judo muttered, and sighed. He knew Suwon was making the right call, but it still felt like his king was pushing him away.
No—pushing him towards his other self.
Judo’s eyes widened as he realized this, realized what it meant. “Uh. Is your lady mother well?” he asked, awkwardly trying to bridge the silence that had fallen.
“Very much so,” Suwon replied. “It seems the trip agreed with her—so many fascinating things to see. You know, I’m looking forward to that myself.”
...right. Because for all of Suwon’s knowledge, for all his origin, he himself had never traveled further outside of Kouka than Sei. “Yes, well,” said Judo, “I’m sure traveling the stars will suit you perfectly."
“Your onboard nav computer has all the access codes you need to land,” I tell Mother as at long last, she enters Kouka’s orbit. Her new ship has probably already told her as much. Unlike the Company ships, I have not taken direct control of this one—the galactic congress is sure to scour it for any trace of me—and it’s the duty of a capable nav computer to keep its commander informed. But I know Mother wants to talk with me.
“Thank you,” Mother says. “Now, before I land, are you going to give me the full explanation I was promised?”
She knows I’ve been attacked. Just before their last jump back into Kouka’s system, they ran into the remnants of a Company fleet I had turned aside. With Ayura’s guidance they managed to evade them, but it was a close call.
My fault. I shouldn’t have sent that Company fleet to a standard jump point.
“Are you—” Won steps into my chamber. He’s wearing the headset, and I’ve been broadcasting my conversation with Mother to him all along, but I switch over to speakers as he enters the room, and project Mother’s image onto the display screen as well. “—alone on the bridge?”
“Yes,” Mother confirms. “Seihwa is manning the security station, Ayura and Tetora are in their own ship in its docking bay. The others…” She shrugs. “They’re not prisoners, I don’t have everyone’s whereabouts.” The others in question are human refugees—some taken by the Company in the early days, some taken by the few traffickers who got past my defenses. Yonhi only came to buy a ship, but Seihwa—who had once been in the same situation herself—had gathered up as many humans as she could to bring them home. Some of these refugees have children who have never seen Kouka—and not all those children are fully human themselves. But Kouka’s new diplomatic ship is a decomissioned luxury liner, so finding space for all of them was no trouble at all.
“There’s someone here with me who can explain the situation a little better,” I say. Which isn’t true, but I think it will go better if he’s the one to tell her.
Yonhi’s eyebrow quirks upwards in surprise. “Oh? I don’t see anyone else there.”
Won hasn’t spoken yet, but Yonhi has no reason to find it strange, hearing my voice without my body moving to match. She likely finds it strange that my body is here at all.
“Mother,” Won begins, tentatively. “They hit the castle with a pulse beam. My mainframe was only temporarily disabled, but you see, nanobots are more fragile.” He pauses, lets that sink in. Mother raises a hand to her mouth to stifle a gasp as the realization hits. “I am not the son you lost.” He cuts off that hope before it can take hold. “In my mind, I suppose you could say in my soul, I’m still Kouka’s planetary AI. But I am human now. I’m not connected to the computer anymore.”
Yonhi looks down, away from the screen, for a long time. “You’re joining the delegation,” she concludes, finally looking up again. “That’s the only reason you would tell me this.”
“Yes,” Won admits.
“Compu—” She breaks off, freezes. She doesn’t know what to call him anymore.
I wait. “Won” has always been an alibi.
“‘Suwon’ still won’t do, will it?”
“You—the computer—he never used to care what I called him. Do you...do you want to be called Suwon?”
It’s who he is, after all. Not her Suwon, and not me, but something in between. And after all, I am Suwon too.
Silently, Suwon nods. Mother’s eyes widen. “Suwon,” she repeats, reaching a hand out to the screen as if to touch him. Tears are starting to form in her eyes.
Whatever this will mean for Suwon as they travel together in the upcoming months will have nothing to do with me.
Hours later, long after Mother has finished talking with Suwon, he still sits with me in my chamber. Resting on the floor, nestled between two columns of my mainframe, he can feel the warmth of my machinery.
I can feel nothing at all.
For nearly an hour, neither one of us speaks. It used to be we didn’t need to. Now, I can’t predict what Suwon is thinking. Even a day ago, I hadn’t guessed he would tell Yonhi the truth. I wouldn’t have.
Heavy footsteps break the silence, and Judo steps into the room. He looks surprised to see Suwon here, but he still looks directly into my viewscreen to speak. “Look, I was an idiot, alright?”
Speak for me, I whisper into Suwon’s ear. I want to feel close to him. Want to feel like I could still reach out to him.
Before I even speak, Judo looks away from me and to my former body. It’s what I expected. “If I left Kouka with you,” he says, and then turns his glare back at me, “would you even be here when we returned?”
The question takes me by surprise. “You’re worried about that?” I ask through Suwon. But Judo isn’t even looking at my former body. Maybe…
“Of course I’m bloody worried!” Judo shouts. “You told me you were planning to die. It’s my duty to make sure you don’t.”
“Even if Kouka no longer needs me by then?”
“ Yes, dammit!” Then he finally looks down at Suwon, noting his circlet, realizing who is speaking. “And you don’t have to—oh, forget it!” He turns away and storms toward the door.
“Judo, wait!” Suwon calls out, and for him, the general turns back.
“I don’t want to end.” I pick up the opening he gave me. “I thought I wouldn’t. I thought going on as a human would be enough. Maybe it could have been, if it happened differently. But now—I don’t want to end, and I feel like I’ve stopped living already.”
“I think the rest of Kouka might notice a difference if you died.” But if I were only living for Kouka, I wouldn’t mind stopping when I was done. “ I’d notice, alright?”
I want to believe it’s me he’s talking to, I truly do. “I have thought—” I begin, “if everything turns out better than it has any right to—I’ll leave this life behind, but I won’t end. I’d find a ship—nothing fancy like the one Mother brought back, just big enough to house my mainframe. Fast enough to go anywhere. I think I’d like being a ship like that.”
“You’d hate it,” Judo says flatly.
“—ah?”
“You, a lone exile? You like people too much. And that’s what this is about, isn’t it?”
He’s right, I realize. Such freedom could be exhilarating...but horrendously, eternally lonely. “...and I thought it was a good idea,” I admit ruefully. There have been times across these past weeks where I despaired of Judo ever understanding me the way I thought he once did—but now, he sees through me in an instant.
“Besides,” Judo says, “as if I’d let you wander off on your own like that.”
Suwon looks up at him then. “If that ever does happen, I’ll miss you,” he says.
He thinks he’s lost him, too.
And Judo, frowning down at him, doesn’t know which of us it is who spoke.
Suwon stands up, lifts the circlet off his head, and hands it to Judo with a nod before walking out the door. “What was that about?” Judo asks, his eyes following Suwon out the door. “And what am I supposed to do with this?”
I’d shrug if I could. I don’t think Suwon will be wearing it again.
After a moment of silence, Judo slips the device over his own head. We don’t need it to speak—I can easily speak out loud, and he knows this. But the approximation of seeing through his eyes is the closest I’ve felt to him in weeks.
I won’t ask him to follow me, not yet. Stay with me, I whisper to him instead.
Judo stiffens for just an instant—he’s not used to hearing my voice like this—then inclines his head, almost smiling. “That’s not something you need to ask, my king.”

KW's OUAT Dream
This dream contains no cast members, and especially no Dream Colins. There is, however, a cameo from Dream Kenan Thompson. I’m not really sure if this dream is of any interest to anyone other than me, but I feel like it highlights a few key parts of my subconscious psyche very well, so...
Anyway, hop the jump here to read it...
The dream began with me and several other people LARPing a Once Upon a Time camping trip. I was our group’s Emma Swan. Apparently, this was part of some multi-fandom LARP event or something, as there were other campsites nearby with other LARPers.
One of the staff members of the event came up to our group and informed us that, “A gentleman calling himself Jesus has requested an audience with Emma Swan.” I was kinda intrigued by this, as the guy obviously had some big roleplay plot in mind here, and I was eager to help him out with it. I sent the staff member back to ask some preliminary questions before I answered this “summons” - namely, what time frame of Emma did he want? Young Emma? Jail Emma? Bailbonds Woman Emma? Pre-CS Emma? CS Emma? Post-Series Emma? Seemed important to be in character as the right Emma when I went.
The staff member returned and informed me, “Jesus doesn’t care which Emma you are; he just wants you dead.” Rude. “And I’m not sure he’s actually a LARPer here, either.” Extremely rude. “He might be an alien, and we might be under attack.” Intergalactically rude.
At this point, as if on cue, the PEWPEWPEW sounds of aliens taking over the world started sounding in the distance, and everyone in my LARP group (and all of the others) started panicking. We all took off running for a nearby barn structure, because for some reason we all “knew” that the aliens couldn’t figure out how doors worked, so as long as we were inside, we would be fine.
Our LARP group’s Killian picked me up and ran off with me towards the barn, which I thought was awfully nice of him, since I am literally the world’s slowest runner. At some point, I realized I was carrying a baby. “Where the hell did this come from?” I asked Killian, as if it was surely his fault. “It’s Hope!” he said. “Pfft. Like we need a baby right now.” I chucked the baby over Killian’s shoulder, as if it was a bomb I was hurling at the aliens chasing us.
We made it inside the barn and shut the doors. Or tried to. Killian kept fucking up the sequence, and I kept yelling at him to stop being a doofus, and then the aliens were coming in. DAMMIT, KILLIAN. So we took off again, and Killian was carrying me again. I told him to head for the backdoor of the barn, because we had to get out of there and the aliens were swarming the front door.
He refused to go. The fucking dingus just would not go. “Fine, put me down, I’ll go myself.” “I’m sorry,” he said. “I can’t do that.” And then I realized he was working with the aliens, so I kicked him in the junk as hard as I could so he’d let me go, and I took off running. I was pretty pissed, because that Killian had been pretty cute, and now I’d need to find another one to LARP with.
At this point, I was running with our LARP group’s Ruby and Elsa. We got cornered by some aliens, who informed Ruby that they had Shane and would only let him go if I sacrificed myself to the aliens. “Oh no!” Ruby cried. “Not Shane! Please! Let me sacrifice myself for him!” “No,” the aliens said. “We only want Emma Swan.” And everyone looked at me expectantly. “Who the FUCK is Shane?” I asked. Ruby leaned over all conspiratorially and was like, “OOC: Remember, this Ruby has a special relationship with a-” At this point, I cut her off entirely and stated, “I don’t do OCs.” “No, but he’s-” “I don’t do OCs. Shane doesn’t exist to me, and Emma Swan isn’t going to sacrifice her own well-being for someone who doesn’t exist.” Elsa helpfully reminded us all, “Guys, I don’t think we’re LARPing anymore. I think this is actually an alien invasion and they actually are holding Shane’s player hostage.” I was not moved. "Well, he shouldn’t have come to a LARP convention with a fucking OC.”
Of course, by this time, we were surrounded by aliens and got captured. They put us on their spacecraft and flew us to their home planet. And we were still LARPing? Hardcore, man. We somehow had acquired a new Killian on the alien planet, whilst in captivity, but he was a super ugly dude who was balding and didn’t even know who Killian was. Apparently, LARPers on alien planets can’t be choosers.
Then a ship landed from Earth, a rescue squad from our home planet, intent on bringing us all home. It landed on our new Killian, and absolutely no one cared. As a show of sympathy, Kenan Thompson (who was apparently part of the rescue team?) put on a Don King wig and announced himself our new Killian. It seemed like a major improvement, and he looked good in leather, so we all agreed to it.
Then, as we were filing onto the rescue ship, a few aliens cornered me. “Please don’t go,” they said. “We want you to stay with us and be our Emma Swan. We just want to LARP some CS scenes.” They were kinda cute, so I figured I’d hear them out. “Okay,” I said. “Who would be my Killian if I stayed?” “You could have your pick from these gentlemen,” the aliens told me, showing me five dudes who were each hotter than the one before - and all hotter than my original LARP Killian. “Oh. Wow. Well. I guess I can stick around for awhile,” I said. “Maybe we can try a Reverse Harem AU...?”
And that’s about when I woke up. I feel like this dream is a very powerful learning tool, in that it teaches us some very important things:
Aliens don’t know how doors work
KW runs really, really slowly
KW doesn’t care about babies at all
KW might even use babies as weapons in a pinch
KW doesn’t do OCs
If you roleplay as an OC, KW will abandon your ass
Kenan Thompson wears Don King wigs in his off time
He’s also willing to LARP as Killian Jones on occasion
If the aliens are hot enough, KW will relocate into space

thinking about a prey AU for kttk:
the house / talos i analogues:
lower house = deep storage
far reaches = power plant and hardware labs
border sea = GUTS, cargo bay, and life support
great maze = shuttle bay
middle house = psychotronics
upper house = lobby
incomparable gardens = arboretum and bridge
the neuromod division (different name pending) is the architect’s (and family’s) personal workshop.
and of course, with the layout rearranged as necessary to make some of the areas cluster together and line up a little better. (like, let’s say the main security station is in the shuttle bay instead, a.k.a. thursday’s domain.)
main stuff:
the house is, of course, a huge space station, and the denizens are aliens. they kind of already are in kttk, technically, but it’s more pronounced here. like, instead of the house being a steampunk LARP, it’s a sci-fi LARP.
dame primus/the will and art as the voices in arthur’s ear. the “twist” is that art claims that arthur created him, but it’s the other way around. arthur remains unaware of this and unaware of the fact that he isn’t human.
art is the one who doesn’t show his face until the very end, a la alex. the parts of the will are the ones who show up as various operators, to help arthur get the keys that control the station.
nothing starts floating around a la the coral, except deadlier to most. it acts a little more like a universal consciousness, here.
the old one is trapped in a prison made out of nothing, deep within the station in the power plant. (the reactor was built around it. the station uses nothing as an energy source too.) the old one’s voice sometimes joins the others in arthur’s ear.
director primus. i just think it sounds neat. she's the director of the house and is an aspect of the architect, who is basically the same kind of entity with the same goal, except just described in alien terms. the architect built the station, and most people think that director primus is meant to be the architect’s replacement, sent years after the architect vanished. (no one knows why the architect disappeared. she was, as usual, just trying to figure out how to die, until she realized the issue there.)
the house moves from world to world and consumes whatever from them before moving on. the denizens all have human forms because they’ve been chilling above earth for a while.
the architect disappeared not long after the house arrived above earth, and dame primus keeps it there, as part of the architect’s plan free herself and old one from existence by destroying the universe. she’s looking for a successor to take her place, a mortal being who can handle exposure to that kind of power, hence needing to experiment to make sure, which usually takes the form of simulations designed to test this. she’s only ever found one mortal who makes a promising candidate.
art used to be human. he was kidnapped at the age of twelve and brought to the station, in an effort to engineer a replacement architect. the experiments changed him significantly over the next several years, into an immortal being like director primus. there are other experiments going on throughout the station -- the piper’s “volunteers,” who are mostly children and modified rats, and friday’s “patients,” etc. but the nature of director primus’s experiments isn’t known at first.
the trustees are in charge of the different parts of the station, and eventually they catch wind of what director primus intends to do. they turn on her before she can complete her work, a mutiny that succeeds, but in the chaos, art manages to escape, and director primus disappears.
the chaos also leads to nothing escaping containment and breaching the station, something deliberately triggered by director primus. nithings start spawning all over and infesting the station. shortly after escaping, art gets trapped in nothing; however, he is too changed and too strong to die, though he is severely weakened. he creates arthur out of nothing as a piece of himself to operate outside of it.
however, because of wonky control over powers and such, arthur ends up in the form and age in which the original arthur was kidnapped, and he has no memory of ever being on the station and no awareness of what he really is. the trustees recapture arthur and put him back in the sim while they try to contain the nothing and figure out what to do with him.
art begins plotting to get arthur out and to stop the house and its inhabitants from interfering with earth anymore. however, his memory is similarly shot full of holes, though he remembers a little more and is at his real age. he isn’t sure who or what to trust.
so it starts with arthur going through the motions of what he thinks is his life, but it gets increasingly glitchy and strange, and eventually, art helps him to break out of the sim. art decides that getting executive control of the house and forcing it to release its mortal experiments and leave is the best option. he promises to take over the house for arthur if arthur gets the executive keys that control each part of the station, and if art can get out/re-form.
director primus contacts arthur soon after and initiates something called the rightful heir protocol, saying that the architect’s intent was always to give the house to him, and that she is carrying out the architect’s will. she claims that the house has grown lax and interferes too much in the affairs of secondary worlds, and that it needs new management.
the protocol gives arthur director-level clearance and activates operators meant to help him, though he’ll still have to physically go to each section of the station and obtain the keys in order to establish control over the station.
director primus says that taking control of the house won’t actually solve anything if it’s being overrun, and the only way to deal with the nothing problem is to cycle the reactor, which was built with specifications meant to neutralize a containment breach should that ever occur. the only way to do this is with all seven keys.
in actuality, the reactor was painstakingly modified, as per director primus’s other work on the station, to destroy the prison holding the old one.
neither art nor arthur know if they should trust director primus, as art has vague memories of the fact that she was the one who took him from his life; however, they have precious few allies, and she seems to share the same goals.
arthur is, of course, concerned with getting back to his real life and his family, and art doesn’t tell him right away that it’s been years since he last saw them. arthur finds out eventually, which puts a rift between them. (he still thinks that he’s the original arthur.)
so arthur’s making his way to each part of the station in his quest to obtain the keys, trying not to get eaten by nithlings or killed by the trustees, getting around obstacles (like the malfunctioning lift), and picking up survivors along the way.
i figure the keys = neuromods, function-wise, and they’re not just keys that control the station, but conduits of power, like usual. using them too much makes more of arthur’s true, non-human nature shine through, although from his perspective, it “changes” him.
other characters:
suzy and fred are some of the piper’s “volunteers,” meaning mortals and animals taken to the house and turned immortal or enhanced. they are still children because of that, even though they’ve been around for a while.
arthur finds suzy in director primus’s office early on, along with the operator called part one of the will, who cajoled her into helping. she originally worked in deep storage.
arthur finds fred in the cargo bay with other survivors, as part of a security force sent to contain the nithings there.
leaf is one of friday’s newest “patients,” meaning people who more or less get their life force sucked out of them for recreational purposes. she manages to escape during the chaos, ending up in the GUTS, which is where arthur finds her.
the piper, of course, got tossed into nothing a while back, but survived, and shows up with an army to make things inconvenient later in the story, like dahl and his army of operators.
arthur finds the mariner trapped in the hardware labs (tuesday’s domain), and though he doesn’t stick around, he promises to help secure a way to get the mortals off the station. he’s the space equivalent of a sailor, so a pilot.
monday is the archivist in charge of data management. tuesday is the chief engineer. wednesday is in charge of utility systems and shipments. (and still gets turned into a whale. a space whale, if you will. not quite as big, but lurking in microgravity tunnels, which is equally scary.) thursday is the security chief. friday is the head doctor. saturday is in charge of administration. sunday is the vp and director of research.
maybe there’s some nithling like prey’s nightmare that starts hunting arthur purposefully. idk. all i know is that the freaky deaky nithling from lady friday with the terrible screams definitely sounds like this.

Like, he has no braincells, 0 emotional intelligence, is so immature and has so many personality traits associated with kids, his voice, he goes to elementary school with kids and gets up to kiddy business, no one blinks at his child disguise even through his antics because he always acts like a kid regardless of his act. Are you telling me he meets his intellectual match at trying to fool (dumb, as per Zim’s opinion and the IZ world) kids that he’s normal (which he fails at doing, since they think of him as the weird kid instead of an alien), his archnemesis (who he always gets bested by) is a kid who is also an unhinged weirdo loner, all of this and more, and you’re telling me you see Zim as an adult?????  Let me just sit here and process your mental gymnastics I can’t even. It genuinely, truly took seeing discourse on my dash to learn that there are people who have issues with seeing Zim as a kid and ships with him lol. I understand the “it’s comedic” argument and kindly dismiss it
Age coding does exists, like, we can all agree Red & Purple have young adults (I’d say mid 20s or 30s) vibes right. Gir is clearly some toddler right?? But then why does Zim believe him to be a trustable assistant I- 😭 A FOOL, a kid larping as a boss idk what to tell you, I would never trust Zim with taxes or consent or legal matters idk what makes you think his brain is developed enough for those but I sure don’t. Irkens so obviously do not live under an age binary, so then what’s left is coding and you can never ever convince me Zim is adult coded, not even like, teen coded. Even setting ships aside a staggering majority of this fandom sees Zim essentially as a kid. Like, even just AUs where Zim gets adopted into the Membrane family. If you’re anti child x irken then you should have a problem with anyone portraying Zim as a kid too or else where is the logic. I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND- he looks like a child, acts like a child, has all the visual and social cues to being a child, interacts with children most of the time, why do people have to complicate things. The narrative of child soldier that finds distance from his abusive system and a routine in a world anew will always be more compelling than some creep that stalks and fights kids all day idk what to tell you. But oooohhhh ohhh he’s an alien with vague lore booooo, if I compare this situation to 3BELOW, would you consider Steve dating some immortal alien warrior princess who is stronger and taller and has 4 arms and is made of light but is appropriately age-coded immoral or weird, or? You could live your normal sane life of being a leftie antiship but open social medias and you’ll be baffled at the takes you never in a million years thought would be able to be twisted into being radically problematic. I consider ships with Zim and Red/Purple for example to have a much, much bigger power imbalance than zadr or zagr, but hey, at the end what does canon truly tells us? Nothing concrete, so it’s all up to interpretation. If people are shipping either side of the coin with creepy or immoral intents or aesthetics then it’s bad full stop, but if they don’t (which is the clear majority in every case I mentioned as far as I know), then even if it doesn’t align to my own interpretation, while it’s not my cup of tea, it doesn’t make you a bad person. Sometimes it’s ok to let our monkey brains intuitively understand the vibes of a character instead of going brrrrr technically it maybe may be questionable perhaps. Because yes, fiction affects reality but no, if the portrayal of these ambiguous characters isn’t unhealthy then it doesn’t hurt. You get what I was saying with the immortal kid trope right? If all of the signs point to him being a kid but a statement on his age off screen is what makes him an adult, then isn’t it a dubious cop-out?
My goal here isn’t to disrespect anyone’s interpretation of Zim’s age, that’s personal to u and it’s all valid as long as you interact with content of the character accordingly, but please by the love of god don’t send me serious accusations for my (worst of all, completely SFW) content of my frankly unproblematic ship. I mean, I was expecting the problematic aspect if anything to be Zim wanting to colonize the Earth tbh, but ok go off I guess.
Sorry not sorry to be more flippant than I usually am about this but I just do not have any respect for this discourse. I got seriously attacked and slandered over zagr this summer and it got me into an awful slump of paranoically overanalyzing every ship ever and at the end of it the only conclusion I could arrive to rationally is that my ship is fine and I was hurt so badly over some seriously stupid misunderstanding. I guess what I wanted to communicate here with this is that seeing Zim as an adult isn’t just some choice I don’t take, but fundamentally incompatible with how I experience/interact with the canon, period. And it’s damaging that my innocent interpretation labels me a bad person, both individually and for the fandom tbh.
For the sake of serious takes, I align with this post: https://random-iz-stuff.tumblr.com/post/693445392398974976/my-thoughts-on-zadr
And this thread is civil and nice if you’re looking to form your own opinion on the matter: https://space-n-sky.tumblr.com/post/182386183644/i-continue-to-see-more-people-argue-over-zims-age Very smart & very proud of the fandom for it
editing in a new post bc this is still an issue apparently and some people need to touch grass: https://www.tumblr.com/fanboyvini/715194175384158208/i-did-this-because-i-am-very-tired-of-being?source=share
And btw by child-bodied I don’t just mean short I mean literal chibi proportions, child proportions compared to everyone else in the show. PLEASE learn media literacy. Critical thinking. School is worth it y’all
Tumblr media
But like, you know the trope that we all can agree is bad of “a character that looks like a child but is millennia old so it’s okay to sexualize them” and all? Doesn’t Zim count as child-bodied?? Under that standard, isn’t it shipping him as an adult that is a red flag?

🔥 Any unpopular opinions on our precious camp man David?
Oh boy. This one might get awkward.
So I … don’t think Max is David’s favorite camper. Hell, I don’t think he has a favorite camper. And I kinda get … some weird mixture of annoyed and bummed out the more I see stuff like that — not necessarily the “David adopts Max” AUs, because I could totally see him doing that. The thing is … I could totally see him doing that for any camper. I think he’d come home with a fucking trailer full of children if the state allowed it.
And I think that, with the possible exceptions of Nerris and Space Kid, all of those kids need love. And David would be a shitty counselor if he played favorites as blatantly as the fandom so often seems to want him to.
I think Max needed David the most and he recognized that, but I don’t think that means he doesn’t love the fuck out of the other kids as well.
My amazing bro @hopefullypessimistic84 said it better and more concisely than I can, to be honest:
Like of course David loves Max, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love the other campers too! David cares about every single one of them and wants them all to be happy and will do whatever he can to help them. He’s a good counselor! Yeah, he’s a little over the top and he doesn’t always listen, but he means well and he would rush into a burning building for every single one of them.
But it’s okay, because when I get super bummed my other amazing bro @ciphernetics breaks out amazing headcanons about David’s relationship with the campers, so let’s close with some sunshine from our favorite sunshine man:
I like the idea of him liking them in different ways.
Like, say, he loves certain sports with Nurf cause Nurf is really good at them and is evolving a sense of sportsmanship.
Or helping Preston run scenes because he has so much energy and seems to like that David does too.
Ered tries to teach him to skateboard and he’s really bad at it but she laughs when he falls and tells him it’s cool that he tried and then when he can finally stay upright for more than a minute she says he’s very cool and David rides that high for the rest of the day.
Nikki is exhausting but David would always pick her first for a nature hike.
David likes hearing about what Neil’s trying to accomplish, even though he doesn’t understand it. Neil gets frustrated and David apologises because he’s not very scientifically minded and Neil pauses and starts explaining how he would explain to Nikki and then David starts to get it and he’s so impressed with what Neil can accomplish and Neil basks in the praise.
Space Kid is the most fun for some good old fashioned imagination. David’s played a friendly alien more than once, and he loves how giddy the kid looks when David helps with special effects- ie shaking his lil spaceship around and yelling “oh no, asteroids!” (Once Space Kid came out while David was feeling low, stargazing. David was about to send him to bed but Space Kid said he had nightmares so he came out to remind himself the stars were still there. David’s surprised that they have similar grounding methods. He listens to Space Kid point out constellations for a half hour, and then they make their own in the shape of the sleepy peak pine. David always forgets where it is but he just asks, because Space Kid doesn’t.)
Larping turns out to be pretty fun, but David chooses to play as a peaceful kind of character. He gets beat down,  of course- not literally, but max wanders in and whacks him ten times on the leg with a foam sword and David’s got no choice but to just lie down in the dirt. Nerris kneels down and shuts his eyes and promises to avenge him and search the land far and wide for a resurrection spell or potion. It turns out to he pudding and she doesn’t warn him before pouring it on his face. David does his best dramatic revival.
David goes full Nikki for Harrison- he doesn’t understand how he does it but boy, it’s fun to watch. Harrison lights up when David’s impressed so maybe he goes a little ham with the reactions but who’s gonna call him out? Harrison teaches him some very basic sleight of hand which David overuses to the point where Gwen threatens murder if he doesn’t stop pulling coins from behind her ear.
David… has a complicated thing with Dolph because he’s still very sore about the counselor thing but after Gwen yells at him to pull his head in he’ll stop avoiding the kid and try to be more supportive of his art. He just wonders if there’s a way to quietly get him to be less…. Hitler? But he is an amazing painter. David discovers that if you commission Dolph with pudding, he’ll paint whatever you ask for. David has a portrait of the sleepy peek pines and one of Gwen made, and Dolph says it makes him feel like a professional artist.
And of course Max. Max and David- I feel like it doesn’t need to be said, much. But Max is the one David can treat most like an equal, which he both likes and wishes he didn’t have to. There’s enough out there on Max and David already though.

Strange Magic Week 2017 Themes!
Thank you to everyone who voted! We had two clear winners, but after that it got very close. We’ve got five bonus themes this year because of tied voting.
This Year’s Daily Themes Are:
Canon Divergence. A point where the timeline splinters, such as what might’ve happened if someone in the Fairy Kingdom had heard Sunny yelling about his plan on the way to the Forest, or the Fairy King took it badly when Roland described himself as “even better” than the king in front of basically everyone.
Space Aliens AU. Bonus if Bog is from the human faction and Marianne and Dawn are the bizarre aliens.
Fake Exes. They know each other from something they don’t want to admit (like LARPing, or crime, or something), then meet again in a different social context. When asked how they know each other, they claim that they are exes/used to date.
Beyond Field and Forest. What other nations or regions neighbour the Dark Forest and the Fairy Kingdom?
Roland Redemption OR Revenge Upon Roland. Some people want him to turn out to be not so terrible and some people want his head on a stick. He gets a theme day for his fans and anti-fans to express their views. (Could lead to fandom drama so may need to lay some rules of etiquette.)
Modern Fantasy.Take a modern AU of the story, but keep the characters as fae. Are they still in political power? Are they just regular citizens? Are fae the ones with the modern society, or are they hiding amongst humans?
When We Are Old. A look into the characters’ future, in counterpoint to ‘When We Were Young’.
Bonus Themes:
Existing Media AU. Crossover with another movie, book, game, or TV show.
Fake Dating. Usually leads to Real Dating, after the obligatory period of Mutual Pining Due To Unawareness That Affection Is Also Mutual. Could also be a way for asexual or aromatic characters to avoid matchmakers.
Kids Day. Again, a repeat of what’s gone before, looking back into characters’ childhoods or forward to the next generation - or maybe draw games or toys you think characters would’ve played with as kids.
Masquerade. Magical beings of some variety concealing their nature from a non-magical world, or a costume party, or possibly a Phantom of the Opera AU.
Soulmate AU. You have a mark that matches your soulmate’s, or their name on you somewhere, or an intangible line linking you to them, or their first words to you printed on your skin (usually in their handwriting), or a countdown to when you will meet, or you don’t see colours until you meet them, or you share injuries, or there’s a telepathic bond, or what you write on your skin shows up on theirs.
Bonus Themes can be used as a substitute for a daily theme you don’t care for, or crossed over with the daily theme, or as a unifying theme in all your work for Strange Magic Week, or in combination with one another, or really however you like. The idea is to stretch your creative muscles.
Strange Magic Week will begin on August 20th, 2017, and end on August 26th. @owl-quill will be managing day-to-day matters for the event.
