This book will probably always be my favorite. It has gotten me through so much. To this day I love Alex and his friends so much. Villains may be fun but Alex Saywer and his, pretty much rag-tag militia- friends have always been my favorite protagonist. They have inspired me to always try my hardest and always have hope. Thank you Alexander Gordon Smith for this series, and once again,

I like to imagine that sometimes Alex visits the park they built to honour those who died.

Sometimes, he's with Zee and Lucy, but mostly alone.

Sometimes, he gets recognised, but people see his grief and know to give him space.

I imagine in those moments he talks. To Simon, who was so, so close to freedom. Who sacrificed himself so everyone else could live. Who was the part of the reason Alex survived at all.

But I imagine he talks to D the most. The boy (because they were all just boys) who got him through hell without even having to be there. The main reason Alex kept going, and the only reason he kept his sanity.

I think he talks because he needs them to know the world is okay. He needs them to know that Furnace is dead, that there is justice in the world, that their sacrifices weren't for nothing.

I think he speaks because it's the only way for him to keep himself sane, to imagine them by his side, happy and free.
