my problem is that. escape from furnace is the only thing i can think of rn okay. but the fandom is. sososososo small. only 39 works on ao3. i have no one to go to to scream about alex sawyer and the unspeakable horrors he has witnessed. if this were a big fandom i could find other gary owens enthusiasts and we could collectively lose our minds about him. but i am stuck in my little corner rocking back and forth trying not to cry over the symbolism that donovan carries in the series even after his death DO U SEE MY PROBLEM

I dont want to discount what Zee went through because, let's face it, they all went through hell.

However, I can't help but notice that he was so much luckier than Alex, Simon, and D.

He was literally immune to experimentation, and while that was almost the death of him, he managed to escape the infirmary relatively untouched.

He manages to survive basically the apocalypse, despite being the only one that didn't get superhuman strength and healing.

Even his parents manage time survive, which is mind-boggling. I can't imagine there were many people at all in London who managed to survive.

And, at the end of it, he managed to get a girlfriend. This isn't as big a deal, but Lucy basically hated them all at first sight, and somehow over the course of a few hellish days, they ended up together.

I just think it's curious that he managed to survive relatively unscathed - I mean, he didn't even end up badly injured. Alex was a superpowered mutant and he ends the series with barely a functioning hand. It's just... interesting, is all.
