I've just learned that there's only a 5 year age gap between Joe Keery and Alec Utgoff and it made me suddenly even more sad about Alexei in season 3 because what if Alexei was also only 5 years older than Steve, about 23-24

Adds more fuel to the statistic that you're way more likely to die as a named character in Stranger Things if you're under the age of 25 (Barb, Sara, the 16 kids in the lab, Alice Creel, Billy, Alexei, Heather, Chrissy, Patrick, Eddie, Fred, Jason and technically Max too)

🏛 👑⚔️"Gladiator II": Once More, with Feeling 🏛 👑⚔️

Just got back from my second viewing of "Gladiator II" - I didn't really enjoy it the first time, but I couldn't get enough of Joe, so I had to watch it again. To my surprise, I actually liked it better this time. Now that I'd let go of my expectations, I could just watch it as an action flick and focus on Joe :)

Joe and Fred and Denzel remained excellent.

Also, I thought they looked familiar the first time around, but couldn't place them - it turns out Alec Utgoff (Alexei from ST3) and Rory McCann (The Hound) were both in it, playing Acacius's second-in-command and captain of the Praetorians, respectively. It's both an ST and a GoT reunion!

That's Alexei! Didn't recognize him without his glasses!

Some more spoiler-y thoughts:

The main weakness of the movie is definitely the script. Paul got the short end of the stick because the script totally hobbled him. Either Hanno's true identity as Lucius should have been revealed from the very beginning (so we could understand his rage toward Rome and his inner turmoil when he was brought back as a slave), or the mystery of Hanno's origin should have been built up a lot more, so we would be curious about him, and when his true identity was revealed, it would be much more satisfying.

Acacius is superfluous. There, I said it. I'm sorry, I think Pedro did a fine job, bringing a lot of the much-needed heart and gravitas to the movie, but narrative-wise, his character is a big ole nothing. His role could be combined with Lucilla's without changing anything (the plot to depose the Emperors and the attempt to rescue Lucius, which led to her arrest and eventual execution, could remain the same), and it would keep the plot tighter too. Acacius's execution could be replaced by Lucilla's execution, which would still result in the riots and Geta's death (RIP my beautiful boy🥲), and the climax could focus more on Lucius and Macrinus, since Lucilla's death at the climax was way too quick and didn't make the impact that it should in an already-crowded third act.

Finally, not really a spoiler but I'm putting it here anyway just in case people want to be surprised: the way Geta screamed "Praetoriaaaaans!!!" after this moment made me feel some kind of way...
