I leave behind
my chains
and my fears.
Turning
to the pale moon,
I float
in the night sky
to rejoin
with my companions
and kindred spirits.

By Jonas E. Alexis, VT Editor
In the twenty-first century, numerous writers and observers have sought to understand the Jewish question, often presenting legitimate and compelling arguments that the mainstream Zionist media struggle to refute on rational grounds. Over time, these arguments have grown stronger, largely due to the actions of the Israeli regime, the influence of the Israeli lobby in the United States and England, and the unconditional support much of the West has provided to Israel’s genocidal policies. Recently, Susan Abulhawa, one of the most widely read Palestinian writers, delivered a powerful speech at the Oxford Union, where she concluded that Israel operates as an apartheid state, “with 278 votes in favour and 59 against.”[1]
However, a serious examination of the historical record on the Jewish question leads one to Wilhelm Marr, a German journalist and activist who coined the term anti-Semitism around 1879. Marr’s issue was not a lack of insight or observational skill. In fact, Albert S. Lindemann of the University of California argues that Marr’s observations about Jewish activities during his time were accurate. Similarly, biographer Moshe Zimmermann concedes that Marr “is intelligent, analytical, universal, and learned, a man who fought fanatically for his opinions,” and that “there is real originality in his opinions.”[2]
Marr attempted to assess the Jewish question while deliberately excluding the religious dimension from which the central issue originated. He avoided examining how the conflict began between Jesus Christ and Jewish leaders, who came to dominate much of Jewish life through their Pharisaic doctrine. This doctrine ultimately shaped the political and ideological framework of the Jewish question for centuries. The religious conflict that began in the first century led to violent revolutions and attacks against both Christians and Gentiles, eventually resulting in the destruction of the Jewish temple in A.D. 70 and other catastrophic events in the second, third, and fourth centuries and beyond.[3] As historian Stephen Benko puts it in Pagan Rome and the Early Christians:
