okay! once again, i labeled all of the custom art as such in the drive(UPDATE. NNOT TRUE ANYMORE. reformatted file names to be easier to mod in auau. apologies!), but if you want a full list, the customs are hatless siffrin jackpot, bonnie jackpot, bonnie special attack, bigfrin attack, and a bunch of alts which are definitely not related to any projects i’ve been thinking about don’t worry about it. and out of those customs, only like. 3 of them are actually completely from scratch.

while i did my absolute best to keep the aspect ratios completely the same as the originals, there’s 3 exceptions that i just couldn’t get to work.

isabeau’s hair in his special attack cg wouldn’t fit in frame if i kept things completely accurate to the og, so i moved his cg down a bit. it shouldn’t cause any issues with modding or anything, it’ll just appear slightly lower than it does in game. alas…

isabeau’s sleeve and mirabelle’s hair made their jackpot sprites a little larger than the originals? i’m hoping this doesn’t have too much of an effect (since the jackpot sprites have inconsistent sizes) but i can’t test this myself unfortunately. aaa feel free to let me know on discord if any problems arise!!

i managed to fix these, so they aren’t going to cause problems now, but my original drawings for mirabelle and siffrin in the final attack scene were a pain in the ass to fix. mirabelle’s sprite was slightly too talk to fit in frame and siffrin’s hat whacked bonnie in the face while i was editing everyone together. i’m only mentioning this because it took like an hour and a half to fix them and finish the scene.

all that aside, these were a fucking BLAST to work on. apparently this ended up taking 57 hours over exactly 10 days. which is a little worrying if you do the math on that but somehow i have not burnt myself out. i will be doing enemies at some point!!! but probably not for a little bit. i think my friends will actually kill me if i don’t take a break.

once again, happy birthday isat. you’ve ruined my life and i wouldn’t have it any other way (silly).

also, on an actual serious note, this little timeloop game has genuinely changed my life for the better? you guys are probably sick of hearing it at this point (or maybe not, i don’t talk about myself That Much. i hope), but i was practically a ghost for about 2 years before joining this fandom. it’s a little surreal to suddenly have friends (plural!!!) and people who Care about me, or even know i exist, honestly. it’s weird!! in a good way!!!

i don’t think i would’ve ever come back to social media if this community wasn’t so welcoming. i’ve met a lot of really great people through this game!!! so, uh, thank you isat, i guess. here’s to another year.

After 13ish, I completely stopped drawing until around a year ago where I picked art up again. I’ve always looked at art in the interim though, & I would draw on occasion but that’s all. My art “journey” is really non linear. I basically got really good for a 10 year old in the furry community and then quit for a long long time until I randomly drew Donnie Darko one day and went “Hold on dude… I forgot I can draw. I should do that”.

Art has always been my passion, whether I was the one drawing it or not though. Although my true ideas regarding art have really developed in the past 2.5 years really specifically, it’s been an interest and defining part of my life since forever.

Top 30 AMVs of 2024 - Intro + Honorable Mentions

So after having read quite a few “best of” amv lists over the years, last year was my first attempt at making a list of my own. I also planned to include a write up of each entry, but after some tech troubles deleted my list, I thought the playlist was fine enough. Well this year I had more time to really think about my faves, and so I decided to go the full nine yards and try doing a proper ranking ala these other editors.

Some guidelines, I am sticking to 30 because I am not quite sure I have the stamina to write about 50 amvs, but the extra entries will give me more time to build pacing and excitement. Next, I just wish to emphasize this is a purely subjective list. I am biased towards certain circles and likely missed out on a lot of great vids this years. And there are amvs I might even say are “better” or more “well-made” that won’t be making it on this list bc it is about what gets my specific weird tastes.

I am including all sources on this list, including live action, so know when I say “amv” I am speaking broadly. The ranking is also kinda arbitrary to the nature of this list. Depending on the day I might have ordered it differently, so what matters most is knowing I love something about these specific vids.

Starting tomorrow I will drop 10 new entries a day. To give us some fun though, I included some honorable mentions here, vids I want to talk about even if they didn’t make my list proper. So let’s get into it:

If you are a mmv fan and still aren’t subscribed to NinjaristicNinja, then this is your sign to get on the much deserved bandwagon. In a medium defined by static images, his work is always kinetic, often mixing 3D background and other assets to make fights pop to life.

This is his latest tribute to JJK, going on all in on one singular fight. In theory this should limit the variety of the vid itself, but he does a great job with set-up, anticipation, and making each turn and reversal nail-biting. There are so many smart choices that keep the action exciting yet clear to leave, that honestly most of it is likely above my expertise. But I think anyone who is a fan of seeing how mmvs and animation can be pushed, or just love a good show, will get something out of this.

Last year I edited with Bloom Into You, and this year I took the time to read and finish the manga, so I am very attached to my girls. I had high expectations for what it means to do them right, and this vid delivered in spades.

So much attention is given to each moment of intimacy and the build up to a touch or kiss. Editing-wise, the drums get a lot of attentions, mimicking the intensity of a pounding, anxious heartbeat. Each time the chorus comes around, it feels like a triumph. Overall it just oozes the joy and thrills of a first love and taking that risk. And as a queer woman who loves the way the source material also tackles the concept of identity, it just all comes together in a way that elevates both the audio and visuals.

Sound sync amvs are a type of vid that I am a more of an outsider to. The idea is that on top of syncing to a music track, they also add original and/or anime-based sound effects to these moments of sync. As someone who likes to treat song as queen, this usually distracts from what I tend to focus on, but I’ve admired monomogu’s sense of rhythm and how he mixes the various audio in the past.

And for this vid, he goes all out on the masking to create what feels like eye-candy it in its purest form. Each transition borders on somewhere between hypnotic and motion-sickness inducing in a way that really scratches my brain positively. Not to mention there is a lot of cheeky lyric sync that just makes me smile and really accentuates the best of its main audio’s strength. I am gonna do a lot of waxing on about all the different strengths and appeals amvs for this series, but this just feels like an extremely detailed and well-done execution of one of the mediums most visceral joys.

Fun fact, I only learned about this band earlier this year thanks to a specific video highlighting this group’s other big song, but the moment I realize just what this vid was doing I was on the edge of my seat.

This is the first time I’ve seen an action Spy x Family action amv played perfectly straight. It’s so much fun to lean into its Cold War aesthetics and spy side of the title (tbh the parts of the premise I wish the series leaned more into). When it kicks into gear at 0:35 I got so hyped up. I also love the transition at 1:35 and in general the use of some well-placed masks. POE 2024 was my first time coming across this editor, and this vid made me a subscriber. The channel description mentions they’ve recently come back from a long hiatus, so I am excited to see what else they might have planned.

[Commissioned by @crazytrain48. The octorilla is an Arduin monster with a long, but strange, history. An illustration first appears in the second volume of the Arduin Trilogy, Welcome to Skull Tower, and that book includes them on encounter tables. But there aren't stats for them (at least, I think. I only have a compilation of the Arduin Trilogy rather than each book separately). The first time I could find statistics under this name is in the Arduin Eternal edition, which coincided with a very nice miniature from Emperor's Choice Games.

Edit: Thanks to @crazytrain48 for pointing out that the octorilla is the "snake ape" from All the World's Monsters, David Hargrave's first monster specific book.

Note also that the octorilla only has six limbs. The name is clearly a portmanteau of "octopus" and "gorilla", ala the term "owlbear", rather than a description of their limbs.]

Octorilla CR 9 CN Magical Beast This creature resembles a humanoid ape, except that it has a beak instead of a mouth, and four slimy tentacles in place of its forearms.

Octorillas are yet another form of hybrid creature created by transmuters in an attempt to create useful servitors and warriors. By combining the clever problem solving of octopuses with the social structure of gorillas, the original creator of the octorilla was hoping that the resultant chimera would be a useful fighter and willing to follow orders. This had mixed results. Octorillas are smarter than, say, an owlbear, but they are independently minded and they are usually resentful of creatures that try to impose their will on them. Although some octorillas are still in captivity serving as moat monsters or palace guards, most of them are free living and free willed.

An octorilla is a fairly simple combatant—they wade into melee and grab prey with their slimy, suckered tentacles. If they don’t have a prey item grabbed, they can use their tentacles to swat arrows and bolts out of the sky. Their tentacles ooze a sticky slime that is mildly acidic. This helps octorillas break food down into small enough pieces in order to consume easily (like their octopus ancestors, their gut passes through the brain, limiting the size of what they can swallow). Octorillas are immune to toxins and resistant to corrosives, which allows them to live in a wide variety of environments, including polluted swamps, radioactive wastelands, or other challenging areas. They require plenty of water, but can survive in both salt and freshwater. Octorillas lair in areas with three dimensional structures to climb on, such as sea caves, coral reefs or tree-filled swamps.

Octorillas remain solitary for most of their lives. When the urge to mate takes them, multiple females will gather at a place with still water, and a male will mate with each of them. This harem will care for their eggs together, with the male assisting by provisioning food when females cannot hunt for themselves. Once the eggs hatch, the mating clutch disperses, but octorillas can recognize their own young and sometimes assist the larvae by bringing them prey. Juvenile octorillas are fully aquatic for their first year or so of life and amphibious thereafter.

Octorillas can be taught to understand a spoken language, and even to speak a few words roughly, but communicate amongst each other without one.
