Lost in the Woods

I finally have some time to tell y'all why you should be watching this show, so buckle up!

The Basics:

Young aspiring artist Fifa is set on going to a prestiges university in Japan but his grandma won't allow him to go unless he works on her elephant ranch for 3 months. On her ranch in rural Northern Thailand, Fifa is a fish out of water and clashes with the stoic ranger, Hem, who's put in charge of showing Fifa the ropes. Fifa doesn't want to be on the ranch and Hem doesn't want to deal with Fifa, but maybe 3 months will be able to change that. Will the city boy with big dreams learn to love the slow farm life in rural Thailand? And will the stoic ranger have space for more than nature in his bruised heart?

The show has 7 episodes and the 5th airs on Tuesday on Gagaoolala.

This show seems to entirely be funded by elephant ranches in the Chiang Mai area, so the most you'll see are beautiful shots of an elephant ranch and some dialogue showing elephant ranches in a positive light, which feels like nothing compared to other show's product placements

The Characters:

Fifa

City boy and aspiring artist with a colorful wardrobe and personality. He's stubborn but will give his all if he sets his mind to it.

Hem

Nature loving stoic ranger who just wants to be left alone. He has a big heart and just wants to help the community and local landscape thrive but keeps his walls high after getting hurt in the past.

Grandma

The strict matriarch of Fifa's family and the reason why Fifa ends up on the elephant ranch. I'm unsure what she's trying to do by making Fifa work on her ranch. Is she trying to keep Fifa from going to Japan? Is she trying to teach him how to stand on his own two feet? Does she just want him to prove that he can do that?

Prod and Padmé

These two are the friends and confidants of our main pairing. You might already know the actor who plays Prod, Nammon, from past BLs such as The Rebound and A Tale of Thousand Stars.

Fifa's Parents

Looking at these two I'm not surprised Fifa is the way he is. They seem like the most chill but also oddest parents. They love Fifa even if they let grandma decide. Also I want both of their wardrobes!

Who would initiate skinship more? I feel like it’d be neither of us. Either that or him cuz I don’t do skinship but if it’s initiated I’m fine with it!

Which colors remind you of them? Green and yellow because during Diamond Edge his outfit was yellow and his mic was green. Warm colours in general remind me of him because he just seems so warm...

Which season would you like to spend with them? Every season tbh. During Spring I’d like to go for walks and flower viewing with him; in Summer I’d like to have ice cream with him; in Autumn and Winter, I purely just want to wear matching hoodies with him and drink hot cocoa. Cliche I know.

Who would bake the cookies and who would steal the batter? We would probably switch. He’d probably ask his family how to bake cookies tbh. But it would probably mostly be me baking and him stealing.

Which one of you would make bad puns and how would the other react? WE’D BOTH MAKE BAD PUNS H U E. He might actually laugh but I would mostly be completely done with him.

Who would want to adopt 50 dogs and cats? DOGGOS. WAIT. NO. LET’S GET 25 EACH.

Which one of you would nearly burn the kitchen down trying to microwave a pop tart and who would come to the rescue? Oh my God. He’d burn it. I’m like 117% sure he would. And I’d laugh first then rescue.

Who likes to lean over tall railings, and who pulls them back? He would lean. I’m terrified of falling.

What would watching a horror film with them be like? HAHAHAHAHA. We’d both scream. Or maybe do a commentary session. We’re both pretty scared I think. But if we have each other it’d be less scary.

Who would be the cheesy flirt, and who would be the bold flirt? I think he’d be both because I can’t even flirt if it meant it’d save my life.

Who is more competitive? Neither of us! I feel that Hansol isn’t that competitive and I’m definitely chill. 

Who would be would have to be given constant reminders (remember to eat, don’t forget your keys, etc.) H I M. Okay maybe I need the reminders too at times. But I feel like it’d mostly be him that needs it.

Who sends memes and who sends cute ‘I miss you’ texts at 3AM? BOTH OF US HAHAHAHAHA. I can get pretty high or emotional in the middle of the night and I’m sure that sometimes he would miss his loved ones in the middle of the night instead of purely wanting to send just memes.

Best BLs of 2024

To my surprise, it appears that we've entered 2025, so before I give myself over to the new year I wanted to share my 15 favourite BLs of 2024 in no particular order. Here we go!!!

🇹🇼 The On1y One

This show came complete out of left field and absolutely blew me away! The slow burn was just so delicious which I actually think is a pretty hard thing to do but with acting this good and a great production quality, it did not ever get too slow or too boring. I just wish they would get a second season because, as I've talked about before, I'm convinced the creators intended for this to be just the first season. I'm still holding out hope for a second season but I do worry that since we haven't heard anything concrete yet that we might not get one.

🇰🇷 The Time of Fever

I already knew this was going to be good since I loved these two in Unintentional Love Story. This is actually very similar to The On1e One and did it just as well but with a slightly different approach. The yearning was palpable in the best way possible!

It's such a pity that it seems like the Korean BL market is struggling right now but this show was no disappointment. Would love a sequel to Unintentional Love Story now because I need to see these two finally get their shit together.

🇹🇼 Unknown

Taiwan does gray area stories so well and this was a perfect example. It was so delicious to witness Yuan just love and yearn for Qian and just get stronger and stronger in the conviction that he was made for loving Qian. I'm also just weak for a character who doesn't think much of themselves and don't believe they deserve to be loved like their romantic interest wants to and then for them to finally cave to the persistence of their romantic partner. Could watch a trillion of those types of pairings and this show was a really good take on the trope.

🇰🇷 Love for Love's Sake

This was an odd one but I really liked the concept. The acting, plot and production was really good and I liked how this added something fresh. It's a similar type of pairing as Unknown so again this was right up my alley. One of these days I should look at all my favourite shows and see how often this dynamic pops up because I bet it's a lot. 

🇹🇭 Cherry Magic th

Is this the same type of pairing as both Unknown and Love For Love's Sake?!  You bet it is!!!

Tay and New were just so good in this. I loved that they're both actual dorks but Karan is just better at hiding it so Ashi believed Karan was better than him. In reality they were just the same and perfect for each other. Also I just absolutely love this version of Karan because, as I said before, he' was's such a dork and hearing his inner thoughts through Ashi's powers was such a highlight of this show. Favourite scene was in the bus when Ashi leaned on Karan's shoulder and you just heard Karan's internal screaming. Such a mood!! It just made Karan so much more down to earth and I think Ashi and Karan are one of the few BL pairings where I can imagine them being together for the rest of their lives because they'd be both best friends and lovers.

I did struggle with the Pai character because she was such a good female character and representation of the struggles a lot of woman have. I so badly wanted her to stay single and happy on her own and it felt unnecessary to pair her with Rock. Even more so because her Japanese counter part was actually asexual so I would have loved for Pai to have a similar story line.

🇯🇵 25 Ji, Akasaka de

Just so much pining!!! And another character feeling unworthy of their romantic interest but I feel like this was slightly different, more in an idolizing way and Japan does that really well. 

🇨🇳 Blue Canvas of Youthful Days

This was such a raw feeling show and s big surprise coming out of China. It felt real and raw without feeling like it was low quality. I loved both pairings so much and maybe I'm a masochist but I loved having my heart broken every week.

It didn't quite stick the landing but honestly, with it being China, I'm not surprised the ending got muddled and famously I don't mind when a show doesn't stick it's landing (See my love of HIStory3: Make Our Days Count). It's still worth watching so much and I will definitely watch it again myself. 

🇹🇭 Every You, Every Me

I already enjoyed Top and Mick in their segment of My Universe so I was very excited for this one. This was also a nice surprise because I was just expecting another anthology show but the way they connected the couples was really clever. The ending was a little weak but again here, I didn't think it really hurt the show too much, it just meant this is a good show that could have been even more amazing.

I feel like Top and Mick really proved themselves in this and I really hope that we get more of them. They're a rare pairing that don't visually have a clear top/bottom dynamic while also being good enough actors to be able to both pull of playing both roles.

🇹🇭 I Saw You in My Dream

This was a cute little show and I was happily surprised that they pulled off the more ambitious concept of the prophetic dreams. Both couples were really great and I had such a good time watching along. 

🇨🇳 Meet You at the Blossom

Finally a Wuxia BL from China, by the help of Thailand and Taiwan. This was all I wanted it to be and I can't wait to see how these actors do going forward with them being Chinese and all. I hope we get more Wuxia BLs because this was soooo much fun. I loved both main and secondary characters and pairings and the plot was just the right amount of unhinged.

🇹🇭 We Are

I was worried about this show having so many couples and episodes but I loved how they intertwined and balanced the pairings and gave us a show which was engaging and interesting all the way through.

I love me some found family and all the pairings were great in their own ways. I did particularly love Peem and Phum. It's the hurt character with walls so high all over again (adds another tally to the count). To be honest PhumPeem are still rotating in my mind to this day which I think is a testament to how well this show was executed.

🇹🇭 Spare Me Your Mercy

This was such an engaging watch and it was so cool to get another BL which was really a romance second and another genre first. The crime and mystery of this show was really great and the production quality fit really well. I talked in this post about it struggling with only having 8 episodes which I wholeheartedly think is most of the reason why this show is just good and not absolutely amazing. 

🇯🇵 Takara no Vidro

Another little gem of a show with characters who are perfect for each other but don't believe they're worthy of the other person. Japan does this really well so this was a success. 

🇹🇭 Pit Babe

This was a wild ride with a wild plot and concept but it committed to the bit and made me really invested in the characters and made it easy to get on board with the ABO dynamic of this show and what it meant for the plot.  

🇰🇷 Love in the Big City

This was a top tier QL! It's one of those BLs that are really more about the realities of being queer than the romance which is when a ton of people pop out of the woodwoork to debate whether this is a BL or Queer Media™ as if the latter is inherently better than the first, which is a ridiculous sentiment. Sure, if you don't want to call this a BL because the focus is much more on the realities of being Queer in South Korea then I'm not going to burn you at the stake but don't make this out to be better than BL as a whole. BL is Queer Media and not inherently worse or better than other queer media, especially the kind that don't focus on romance. Anyways, a small tangent.

This show is great and well worth a watch. I don't know if I'll ever watch it again personally because it just left me feeling so raw and too seen.

After the most recent My Golden Blood episode(3) I've slowly been applying my clown makeup, because I can't stop thinking about how this show is going to play out and I have theories™!

My number one theory is that Khun Thara is a bad guy

At least when it comes to Tong because I bet that she's only been protecting him because she's had a vision that if she sacrifices Tong when he turns 21 years old then she'll become super powerful or in some other way be able to ensure "peace" among vampires.

She says she wants "peace" but she also keeps talking about how powerful Golden Blood is so I wouldn't be surprised if when she talks "peace" she means "I'll be so powerful that no one dares cross me".

I'm with @karebear923 that she'll probably want to drink his blood but I'm not entirely decided yet on what I think will happen if someone drinks Tong's blood.

This brings me to my second theory which is that...

Tong's bodily fluids are a cure for the curse of vampirism.

So far all the ways Mark has been affected by Tong has shown him getting his humanity back with feelings and senses and I'm honestly sitting at edge of my seat waiting to see what the next bodily fluid will do to Mark.

I'm in two minds about whether Tong's bodily fluids are going to make Mark all the way human again at the end or if they just remove the bad stuff about being a vampire and instead make him a Super Vampire™. If he became human again that would solve the dilemma of whether Tong and Mark will get their happy ever after because then he wouldn't be immortal anymore, but if I'm right about Khun Thara being out to kill Tong then Mark becoming human again would mean he wouldn't be able to protect Tong. I definitely think that if Mark doesn't become human then Tong has to become a vampire too because it's GMMTV and I don't see us not getting a HEA.

Anyways, these are are two cents on My Golden Blood and I would love to hear what you guys think! Do you have other theories on how this is all going to play out? Which bodily fluid do you think will come into play next? Or have we reached GMMTVs limit for bodily fluids? 🤭

Episode 3 of 7 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Wednesday

I'm still a fan of this show!! I like the production a lot, even if it's nothing fancy, like Top Form. As someone who enjoys good views and nature a lot, this show is right up my alley. I do worry what kind of ending they're going for because I don't know that any of our main characters be able to change so much that they would stay on or leave the farm depending on which one of them you're talking about.

🇹🇭 Perfect 10 Liners

Episode 24 of 24 || Watching on: Youtube, Sunday

Oh this was a good show! It didn't manage to surpass We Are for me but it still had some good pairings with great chemistry and some fun friend dynamics which I think are some of the most important things about shows like this and We Are. Particularly for this final episode I'm really glad that Yotha and Faifah got a chance to talk about their mom even if I still think she needs to be punted into the sun. I didn't really have any strong feelings about any of the actor pairings before I started this show but they all really proved themselves to me during it. It felt like all the character's and their plot-lines fit the actors so well and highlighter their strengths in acting. I could see myself going back to re-watch one or two of the pairings but I doubt that I'll ever do a full re-watch.

🇹🇭 Your Sky of Us

This is straight up candy floss. Soooo sweet but not a lot of substance. Good thing I like candy floss! Downside is that this show makes me more excited for ThomasKong's and AuauSave's next shows but those will probably not air any time soon 🥺

🇹🇭 I'm Your Moon

Episode 4 of 8 || Watching on: iQiYi, Sunday

Oh Prey has game! It's so good when the younger character is the one most persistently pursuing the other and honestly this dynamic is what I need when there's a larger age gap. I do love the insights we got into Earl's thoughts with both the shower and the café because she's a character that holds all her cards to close to her chest and is hard to read, so this gives us an insight we otherwise wouldn't have had. On another note, I'd like to thank the second (third?) couple for their effort in that bath even it I was confused for a second why they'd gotten in the bath with clothes on. I guess that's one way of fixing the problem of not being able to show female presenting nipples on TV #RIP On the whole it feels like a lot of effort and heart has been put into this show but some aspects of the production definitely suffer from a lower budget, which I'm imagining is a common problem with GLs at least in comparison to BLs. Either way I'm enjoying it and looking forward to next weeks episode.

🇹🇼 Fight for You

Episode 3 of 12 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Friday

The first three episodes of this show has me intrigued. It's a really interesting premise and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I bet Da Hei has gotten himself mixed up in something bad because he so desperately wants to take care of his sister, and him and Xiao Bai will for sure get in the middle of some dangerous situation, especially after boss man said that he's basically sent Xiao Bai to investigate Da Hei because it seemed like the best way to keep Da Hei safe.

🇹🇭 Top Form

Episode 3 of 11 || Watching on: Gray, Thursday

I'm slightly more convinced about the pairing after this episode. Speeding through that time period helped a lot to even out their dynamic but I'm still side-eying Jin. Like did he really have a cold? Also I spent the entire honey scene worried for the carpet and thinking that's a waste of honey. In this economy?! Anyways, the production quality makes it an easy watch even if I'm not sold on the pairing or plot so I'll keep watching.

🇹🇭 My Golden Blood

Episode 4 of 12 || Watching on: Youtube, Wednesday

Not much happened plot-wise this episode and I think I've figured out why none of the comedic moments have been hitting the spot for me and I think it's in part because of Gawin. I don't know if it's his comedic timing or if it's the direction he's getting or just the script but something isn't adding up. I've seen people both really liking him as Tong and not and I'll have to admit that for me he's falling a little short for me in this show.

Episode 12 of 12 || Watching on: iQiYi, Sunday

Really liked this show and it kept me invested all the way 'til the end. All three couples were great and weirdly the one who I'd love to see the most in another show in the future is Save. Thomas and Kong were great but I'm not sure how easy it would be for them to pull off other dynamics than this one at least at the moment. They definitely delivered in this show though! The NC scene in the final episode absolutely blew my mind and I’m really happy they had it in the episode because if there’s one thing I find frustrating it’s the Blushing Maiden trope and this scene showed us how Rak absolutely wasn’t a blushing maiden. Sure, he was hesitant in the beginning of their relationship but he was still very much into Fah both romantically and sexually. I loved seeing him taking charge and Fah’s reaction was just great.

🇹🇭 The Boy Next World

Episode 5 of 10 || Watching on: iQiYi, Sunday

This show is still confusing but it helps that we now know that Jin can read minds and that there is no parallel world(?). I feel like there must be some kind of other supernatural thing going on with Cir though because some of the dreams Cir’s having seem like they aren’t normal. Boss and Noeul though are fire as always and that bj scene was mind blowing. I’d like to send a fruit basket to Boss (or whoever gave him directions) for giving Noeul’s legs some attention once again. I’m a big fan of some body worship and when they focus on other body parts in BL NC scenes so I was thrilled to see it. It can get pretty repetitive when the shows always do the classic “kiss him down his chest and then up again”.

I’m really liking Santa and Perth in this so it's safe to say that I'm on board with their pairing. It was very satisfying to see Yotha finally figure out what’s up and then get to experience a loving family. Not big on relationships that seem to be so magical that they fix all your trauma but it seems to be a theme this week so I guess I have to live with it.

🇹🇭 Sangmin Dinneaw

Episode 6 of 8 || Watching on: iQiYi, Sunday

This show keeps being so weird and just an odd mix of plot and genre. As with the past weeks I’m still enjoying Sangmin and Dinneaw’s part and for the most part also Tor and Athit but I don’t care for Pony and the third couple at all!

Finally Fadel and Bison know what’s up with their "Mom"!! I loved seeing Fadel dealing with the knowledge that his ex had been killed by “Mother”. His breakdown and the following desperate attempt at pushing Style away was delicious. Just standing ovation to Joong. Is it clear who my favourite character is?!

🇹🇭 ThamePo Heart That Skips a Beat

I’m still enjoying this but I’m starting to feel a little frustrated with some of the characters. I was ready to slap Thame when he almost suggested that they should basically compete for Po’s love. Also I’m very much of the opinion that Jun definitely has feelings for Po and just decided to step aside when he realized that Po has feelings for Thame because if not then what the fuck was he doing this episode?!

🇯🇵 Futtara Doshaburi

Episode 4 of 7 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Friday

I’m still on the fence about this show. I’m intrigued by what it’s trying to say and I really like the production but I’m still worried about where it’s going. All the relationship problems in this show are in part due to inaction and missing communication and maybe a dash of denial about the state of their relationship which I can’t quite figure out if that’s my cup of tea or not. Especially Nakarei straight up annoys me because he just keeps trying to sleep with his partner even when he’s been told no many times that he doesn't want to. Like you basically started this relationship knowing that it wouldn’t have a physical component so why the fuck do you keep throwing yourself at your partner?! Also he just has this air of superiority which irritates me.

🇹🇭 Petrichor

Episode 10 of 10 || Watching on: iQiYi, Saturday

I liked this show and I definitely think it’s worth the watch. Sammon writes some cool stories, but it does often come at the cost of the relationship which is a pity. Don't know if it's because they workshop the shows differently, don't pay much attention to it during production or if it's because the plot outside the romance gets priority in post production.

🇨🇳 I'll Turn Back This Time

I’ll be honest, this show isn’t good enough for me to enjoy plot points around homophobic parents, so I wasn’t a big fan of the turn this episode took. I’ll definitely watch this 'til the end but my enjoyment and investment took a bit of a dive this episode.

I've now posted my second weekly QL recap post and I'm honestly just really proud of myself. Not just that I've stuck to doing it but also that I've managed to make it something I might actually be able to keep doing because I've made it as easy as possible for myself. That way it's less likely that it'll start feeling like a chore or that it'll take up a lot of my time when I'd rather be talking about the shows than formatting a post.

So because I'm a nerd and I kinda wanna show off a little bit because I'm proud of what I've managed to make, let me tell you exactly what I've set up to make my weekly recap post.

The basis for the post is simple enough: an excel spreadsheet and a python script.

My Spreadsheet of BLs

The spreadsheet is based on My Watchlist on MyDramaList which I literally just do ctrl+A and copypaste into a sheet. This is then automatically compiled into a different sheet where I've made a better overview of all the shows I'm watching and have watched in the past.

Based on this I've set up the weekly overview in a separate sheet shown below

When I'm compiling my weekly recap I can then easily add any new information here.

I also make a banner for the show but I've found a good source for images so it doesn't take long most of the time.

I have to manually upload the banner for the first week but then for the second week a show is in the recap, I can add the HTML for the banner from the previous week's post to the sheet. That way the banner will just be automatically be added to the post every week after that.

Throughout the week I then write notes on each episode I watch into the sheet and before I make the actual post I add the order I want the shows to appear in on the post.

The Script is Where the Magic Happens

When I've finished filling out the spreadsheet for the week I go to my python script, change the week number in the script and run the script.

In the script I've taken the HTML code from my original recap post and set it up so the script fills the information from my spreadsheet for each show into the right places in the HTML code. Since I doubt you guys would find it riveting to look at my full script, here's a little snippet!

When I run the script it then prints out the HTML for the post which I can insert into a new post on tumblr and voila, a weekly recap!!!

I do then have to go through the text for each show and add breaks and spellcheck because that's easier to do here than in the excel cell where I write the notes to begin with. If I have any overall notes or any new banners I have to add, then this is also when I'd do it.

I'm sure there are things you could set up in a better way but this works for me and reduces the amount of time I have to set aside every week for creating the post by a lot. It just makes it easier for me to share my thoughts in a way that's nice to look at without having to spend a ton of time formatting a post each week.

Hope this didn't take away any of the magic behind my posts but just gave a cool insight into the things you can do to make recurring posts easier to make.

This show is just blowing me away! I love the plot and the cinematography and the characters! They just feels messy and impulsive and full of feelings in a perfect teenager way which makes it easier to witness them make questionable decisions again and again with very little open honest communication. This show is just chewy in the best way that keeps me glued to the screen all through the episodes.

Oh I just love Fai and Wine! They're going to get in their own way even if they've already indirectly confessed to each other, multiple times on Fai's part. I'm really enjoying their part of this show and I'm so ready to see them figure it all out.

This is a whole new level of toxic and love triangle. Is there even a word for when it's 3 people vying for one person's attention? Is it simply a love square? I'm rooting for the toxic4toxic pairing even if I would be up for toxic polyamory. Also who the fuck makes a deal with their rival to not pursue the person you both like but instead pretend to date each? Absolutely bonkers and I'm enjoying the drama immensely.

This had a very satisfying ending and it's definitely not unthinkable that I'll re-watch this in the future.

Est and William have great chemistry and the band dynamic was a fun part of the show. I do think that the overall quality of the plot and the shows message got a little lost in the promotional aspect of the show because this show was clearly both a BL and promotion of LYKN (RL MARS). It seemed like the first handful of episodes were spent on introducing the members of the band and the band member characters weren't really allowed to have any negative qualities. Like any actions they took that seemed to work against our mains was given positive motives. Another thing is that since the show was to some extent a promotion of LYKN, Oner was basically the fictional embodiment of GMMTV which meant the show couldn't fully cast Oner and Miss Pemika in a negative light which frustrated me so much. It felt weird every time the show tried to cast Miss Pemika and her actions in a positive light because in MARS' story she was the clear villain even if she did all the right things for the company. It was like the show spent 90% of the time showing how much of a bad guy she was in MARS' and Po's story but once in a while the show did some fucked up version of 'No Homo!' but instead it was 'No Bad guy!'.

This show is sadly getting overshadowed this week because even if I'm enjoying it, a bunch of the other shows are just on a whole 'nother level. Not sure where we're going with this show but I'm along for the ride even though I'm kinda hoping our second pairing end up being the best of friends instead of lovers.

I wasn't completely satisfied with this ending but I can't quite explain what I would have liked differently or what I didn't like.

I feel like maybe MeMindY is more used to making their usual 12 episode shows but haven't quite figured out how to plan their plot for shorter shows. I was similarly feeling kinda off at the end of Love Sea so that's my best guess. I feel like MeMindY always deliver on production quality and actor pairings but their weak point has always been the plot. Where most of their shows have wild plots, they usually add small detours and addendums along the way of the 12 episodes which means it doesn't detract from the overall plot about the main characters which is usually solid. With these shorter shows I feel like I'm maybe missing some meat or just some exposition because they don't have time to dive into too much. Like they could have easily spent more time in this show on Ozone and the mom and Jin's powers and the reasons behind what lead Cir to stalking Phu and why he kept doing it. I think I just wanted more.

Episode 8 of 8 || Watching on: Grey, Friday

This kept being cute until the end and it definitely hit the spot as a pulp. It had enough going for itself in terms of charm and heart and humor that I didn't mind horribly when the lower production quality shone through.

This was such a good first episode!! I don't know what this show is doing different but it was able to keep my interest much more than the other shows currently airing. Admittedly we're only on episode 1 but the episode was a very promising start so fingers crossed that it keeps being good. I started watching this show specifically because it's the follow up to the GL Reverse 4 You which had a similarly interesting concept and was well executed even if the landing was little wobbily, which honestly happens more often than not for QLs.

Episode 6 of 10 || Watching on: iQiYi, Sunday

I'm really glad that Phu is sure of what he wants and doesn't just follow Cir blindly. It makes for a good dynamic when Cir gets a little bit too overbearing and protective. This episode proved for the thousandth time that if there's one thing MeMindY knows how to do to perfection, it is NC scenes and sexual dynamics between characters.

I adore Fadel and his relationship with Style and I would like to send a fruit basket to whoever had Style straddle Fadel and to whoever decided to include the paint ball(?) scene from 10 Things I Hate about you. Honestly watching this show has just been me falling in love with Fadel as a character and Joong as an actor.

I almost got frustrated by them going in circles around each other for forever but then they suddenly went from 0 to 100 from one scene to the next which was a little odd. Some of this show is still working for me but I'm not quite as invested in their story as I was at the beginning. I'm still overall enjoying it though.

Episode 5 of 7 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Friday

I find it interesting that they can be honest with each other but not with their partners. It makes sense though because it seems like there's just so much baggage and things unsaid between the two couples and there's none of that between our leads. Their first time having sex felt incredibly one-side and I can't figure out how Rei is feeling about this and Hagiwara so I hope the show makes this more clear in the final episodes. I find this show interesting but I can't quite figure out what the show wants to say about sex or whether I like what it's trying to say or not. It seems to want to say something about how there's nothing wrong with wanting sex but since the partners are an ace person and a probably lesbian woman it feels a little iffy that they're cast as the bad guys in this.

Gun and Yotha are cute af and I love all the friends but I'm ready for the next pairing now. Especially in the this last episode Fai drew most of my attention so I can't wait for him to get all the love and attention he deserves.

Episode 7 of 8 || Watching on: iQiYi, Sunday

This show keeps being absolutely wild and unpredictable, but I like it?? Not a fan of how Sangmin both have lost his memories and gotten his IQ lowered by the operation, like what? Why is he acting different outside of having lost his memories? The only reason I can think off for this is that Sangmin is acting it up for some self-sacrificing reason but I don't know if I'd enjoy that as plot point either.

🇨🇳 I'll Turn Back This Time

Episode 5 of 6 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Saturday

This show's production quality is great and it sticks nicely to its genre of high drama in a very soapy way. But I can't ignore that this story is coming out of mainland China so when the plot is saying that as long as these two characters love each other, one is bound to die, it has a lot more weight than if this was a Thai show. It feels a little too close to "bury your gays" even if we get a happy ending, which I'm not a fan of.

This was such a good special episode! I loved this new dynamic of other world Cir and Phu and would kill to have just a little bit more of them but alas. I think it worked well to have Wim and Jin be an established couple in this world and it also worked well to switch to the main Cir and Phu part way through. It tied together what happened during the show nicely while also giving us some lovey dovey WimJin and a superb NC scene with main CirPhu. Now I'm just excited to see what MeMindY will announce next!

I was expecting to be disappointed by how the show would handle Fai and Yotha's parents but that scene frustrated me a lot. Sure the apology was a step in the right direction but there was just so much missing in the conversation. The dad didn't even apologies and the same with Newton and Yotha. Fai deserved so much better! And I wish the show had given Wine a chance to be mad at Fai's family more instead of this pale imitation of a loving and caring family. Anyways, I still love Wine and Fai, though I felt bad for any other person on their campsite because tents do nothing to muffle noises.

This was cute and a great start to the special episodes but nothing of substance. It might be because I've watched Domundi's reality TV show recently but I felt like I was watching the actors just playing around with a thin layer of plot. I'm not saying this is bad, it's just pure fluff and slice of life in classic Special Episode fashion.

I feel like so far this show is a solid little gem. Nothing extraordinary and it still has to prove itself completely but I'm definitely enjoying it. It also doesn't hurt that I'm absolutely loving the nature porn! I was already planning on going back to Northern Thailand so they really didn't need to convince me more but I am not complaining. Plot wise Fifa was dealt such a shitting hand this episode and I find it hard to believe that our allergic guy didn't think twice before eating the meal he was given but I'm suspending belief. I however don't think it was weird that Hem got really angry and frustrated with Fifa even if it was unfair. It's a serious matter and Hem was scared and he doesn't know all the facts about Fifa's day and how much effort he's put in. This combined with how Hem has this very specific image of how Fifa is the most spoiled brat from their first meeting with a dash of prejudice from previous life experiences I'm not surprised he automatically assumed that Fifa is entirely to blame and got mad at him. Also I like where they are now because Hem's gotta realize that he was unfair to Fifa which means they now have unfinished business between them which is bound to change their relationship. Just imagine me rubbing my hands together in excitement for next week.

I'm still not entirely convinced by Joss and Gawin but I'm convinced enough by the plot that I have theories and many thoughts to the point where I had to make a post about my main theories. If anyone wants to join in the theorizing I'm all ears! I'll definitely keep tuning in the coming weeks to see how wrong or right I am in my theories and to find out which bodily fluid will come into play next or if we've reached GMMTVs limit for bodily fluids 🤭

This is giving To Sir With Love meets Until We Meet Again. The show screams melodrama and lakorn but for what it is, I'm enjoying it, even if the acting is a little wooden. So if you like lakorns/soaps and historical lesbians this might be the show for you! I do wish they'd cast a slightly older woman in the youngest of the two leads but that's me being nit-picky.

I really liked this concept even if I think the landing of the time travel plot was a little muddled. I don't know if I'll ever re-watch it but I had a good time watching it. For the final episode I kept thinking about how this episode was the perfect example of why I don't feel drawn to many GLs. It just confirmed my theories from my post about "Why more people watch BLs than GLs" because the final was just a romantic cherry on top in a way that most QL enjoyers would love. Not much plot but just romance and our characters getting their happy ever after but I was struggling so hard to enjoy that. Don't get me wrong, this is all me and not because of the show and I'll probably try and summaries and expand on my thoughts in another post later.

I keep loving the production but I'm still not really into the main character dynamic. I don't know what it is but it just feels uneven which for some reason rubs me the wrong way in this one.

I'll keep repeating the thing I've said every week: I love Wine and Faifah and their romance. Wanted to hit something when Fai's face fell when Tor entered the picture but at least it got resolved really fast. Their romance has just been so sweet and I've loved seeing them get together and heal and grow together. Now give me Wine telling the entirety of Fai's family off and any other people who's ever hurt Fai really.

Episode 7 of 7 || Watching on: iQiYi, Saturday

This was such a good show! All the characters were flawed and at fault at one point or another and just so very teenager. The production and storytelling was just so delicious and chewy in the best way. I was surprised that Bua was my favorite character by the end. His journey was just the most satisfying to me. He was brave and stood up for himself and learned why he'd done wrong in the past. I was happy that there was a reason for why Baabin had been denying his feelings for Bua because by the point when he told Bua he wasn't into him because he's a "Foreigner" I was ready to jump through the screen so I could strangle Baabin. I'm glad it all came down to his friendship with Fourmod and how Chian was still willing to fight for Bua because I was very worried that this show would end up with all friendships destroyed which would be so sad. I felt Chian and Fourmod's relationship got kinda muddled and messy in a weird way towards the end so I almost wish that they hadn't gotten together but had maybe just had a hopeful ending. This ending felt a little bit too neat and perfect at the end based on how messy and realistic the show was but that's also being nitpicky. I will say that in this regard I'm also biased because I was so so happy that Bua and Baaebin got together. Of course I would have loved to seen more of the conversations between them on what happened and how Baabin hurt Bua but I doubt they had the time so I'm happy with what I got. It made sense and felt like a satisfying resolution to their story

🇹🇭 Secret Relationships

Episode 8 of 8 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Wednesday

This was a really good show and a big surprise coming out of South Korea. All the criticism I have is all really small nitpicky stuff like that the kisses between the mains were a little awkward and that the resolution could have been a tiny bit more satisfying but that last part might just be me. Either way, would highly recommend (if you can handle the toxicity).

Episode 1 of 7 || Watching on: Gagaoolala, Wednesday

This has all the parts for it to become a show I'm going to love. I love a good meeting of worlds and the whole setup where our main character is a sheltered city boy and our romantic interest is a jaded ranger tasked to show our city boy the ropes of rural life. It's giving Tale of a Thousand Stars and I'm here for it. They both have prejudice against the other and their first meeting has already reaffirmed those so I can't wait to see them clash and then slowly soften up to each other. Also this show is absolutely gorgeous! I adore the nature of Northern Thailand so even the visuals alone are a big plus for me. After all that I just hope the leads have chemistry because then this could become a new favorite of mine.

This show was been losing me a little in the past episodes because of the homophobia plot lines. They just don't interest me much. I can totally understand why it would be healing to see a parental figure change their minds and realize that they've hurt you and apologize but since this has never been a possible problem for me, especially when it comes to queerness, it's not my favorite plot line and I really would love to see the parent suffer more and grovel more.

Episode 2 of 11 || Watching on: Gray, Thursday

I really like the production of this. It feels like they've spent time and money on making it an interesting and nice show to watch. The jury is still out on whether I'll like this plot or not. I like the actors and they're doing a good job but this dynamic where one character idolizes the other isn't my favorite so I'll have to wait and see how it evolves before I make my judgement.

🇹🇭 My Golden Blood

Episode 2 of 12 || Watching on: Youtube, Wednesday

I still really like that they're hitting a lot of the same beats as the early 2000s vampire media with the classic brooding vampire character and the cocky antagonist vampire and so on. I don't think, however, that any of the comedy of this show has landed so far. I'm not entirely sure why that is but it could be because this type of comedy doesn't fit the genre but it might also just be because the comedy parts aren't done well. I'd be super curious to hear what other people have to say about the comedy of this show. Also I'm not convinced by Joss and Gawin as a pairing yet but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt so far and hope that they get to prove themselves by the end of the show. I'll still be tuning in next week though, but mostly for Mond, the killer OST and finally, to get an answer to the burning question we're all dying to have an answer to: Are all of Tong's bodily fluids magical??

Episode 6 of 7 || Watching on: iQiYi, Saturday

Oh, boys! So much crying! My heart is aching for them and their poor broken hearts. I do think it was romantic and such a significant sign of personal growth that Chian made such a big gesture. He apologized, showed that he knew what he'd done wrong and clearly told Fourmod what he feels and wants going forward. That zoom call was, however, so painful to watch, because they all just can't figure out what they're feeling and what they actually want. I am entirely convinced that Baabin likes Bua, he just needs to finally let go of his hope and feelings for Fourmod. Like, my guy, there is no hope there!! And you had to put on two pairs of socks to hide away your nail-polished toes! I've never seen such a clear sign that someone is in denial and that denial is going to keep hurting people a little longer it seems. So far, I'm Team "Baabin's Happiness" and Team "Get Bua a Different Dream than being an Influencer, Please!" and the minute I'm reassured that Fourmod still likes Chian, I'll be on Team FourmodChian as well. Also, final random note: I totally thought that Fai was dating someone else in their friend group so this week took me by surprise. It fit the show and plot well but I do kinda wish that they had only ever stayed friends. I need more strong friendships in my shows and I got so excited when she comforted Fourmod the episode before this week. I do worry that this whole friendship group will have dissolved by the end of this show because of all the drama.

This show is insane!!! ... in the best way possible. I had no idea Korea could go this toxic but I'm having a blast. Daon clearly has or does love them all, but Jaemin and Suhyeon just lost their chance. Seems like Suhyeon and Seonghyeon are teaming up next week so maybe the evil polycule isn't quite of the table yet. Suhyeon just has to stop being so violent before that can happen. Anyways, I don't really care who Daon ends up with as long as he's happy.

I just keep loving Fai and Wine week after week!! They are so good for each other and could have such a good and long lasting relationship if they just made it official. It's really interesting to see their friends' reactions to the little bit they learn about Fai and Wine's relationship because neither of them have really shared the extent with which their relationship has evolved. I'm assuming we're going to run into some struggles soon, which I'm looking forward to, but until then I'm happily basking in their cute interactions and excited for them to meet Tawan.

I guess we're in homophobia central with this week's episode, yikes! I felt so bad for Kliaokhluen. Both her family and best friend! At least it seemed like Meow saw some sense. Luckily the plot is plotting and I'm enjoying it very much. Especially after the homophobic conversation, I really hope Meow doesn't end up with Thi. It would be much better if they just end up good friends.

Just to get it out of the way: I'll be watching My Golden Blood and talking about it on tumblr the same way I do all the other shows. If you don't want to see or hear me talking about the show, I tag all my posts so any My Golden Blood posts should be easy to filter out. I talk more in depth about My Golden Blood and Joss here but let's get to my thoughts on the actual episode. I didn't really have any expectations for this show so the bar was pretty low and the first episode passed it easily. As many people have pointed out, this show gives Twilight and 2000-2010s Vampire show vibes and I was definitely knee high in those back then so I am not complaining. I'm keeping my expectations low but I liked the first episode enough to want to see more.

This was day 27 of the 15 Day BL Challenge (don’t worry about the numbers in that sentence 😅) and the prompt actually asked for your 3 favourite BL kisses but I just kept thinking of more great kisses and in the end I settled on sharing 15, which was good because you’re only allowed 30 GIFs in a tumblr post and that is exactly how many GIFs the post has 🤯😅

I’m glad so many people enjoyed this compilation and agreed with me on these kisses being some good ones 😊

This was the most random little post but apparently people enjoyed learning this little tidbit of knowledge I had rattling around my brain. I will do my best to supply you with more random knowledge in 2025. 

I am still waiting for my experience as someone who studied Civil Engineering to come in handy with all the BL boys studying engineering 😅

4. Trash-watches and what do you do with your negative opinions? 93 notes - Jun 10 2024

This was sparked because of my frustration with people hate-watching shows. It frustrates me to no end when people are engaging with a piece of media entirely in bad faith and with the intent of criticizing it to hell and back with not much nice to say. It resulted in some interesting conversation about what is the best way to use tumblr when you have something negative to say or criticism of a piece of media. 

I think my conclusion about this is that if you’re engaging with a piece of media in good faith and aren’t doing it just to hate on the show you should probably be fine but it’s always good to consider how the fans of the piece of media will feel when they come across your post or comment. And if in doubt maybe leave you’re negative opinions behind a cut and make sure people are warned about your approach, then people themselves can decide whether they want to see it or engage with it. I don’t think not tagging the posts is a good way to solve this but then again I’m also a big fan of tagging things properly.

At the end of the day just be kind and mindful of other people, and then just do what you feel is best.

It’s been 10 months since I wrote this and I’ve become more and more sure of my theories since then. Whenever I see someone talk about why they don’t get into GL much it always falls into one or more of these categories.

This is day 24 of the 15 Days BL Challenge. 

I’m just a sucker for some form of “hurt/traumatized character with low self-esteem who thinks they’re unlovable or damaged goods and then they’re proved wrong by their romantic interest".

One of these days I need to check how many of my favourite BLs fit into this category because I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s most of them.

7. Spare Me Your Mercy: Good but could’ve been amazing 34 notes - Dec 26 2024

I really liked this show and had so much fun watching it but I also had a lot of thoughts on what it could have done better if it had a longer runtime.

I honestly think I understated how much I liked the show in this post. I wish I’d spent more time talking about all the things I really like about this show but I still agree with the majority of the points I make in the post.

My final post is day 44 of the 15 Days BL Challenge and it’s about the scene where Sky's getting assaulted by his ex and Prapai comes to his rescue. It’s a really hard scene to watch but at least Gun gets beaten up at the end. Yay!

Wine and Faifah's dynamic is just so delicious! They just already like each other so much but they're personal baggage is keeping them from realizing and given themselves to those feelings. Faifah's smile slowly dropping when Wine happily told him that Tor likes boys as well lives rent free in my mind now. I'm excited for the heart break but I also can't wait for them to finally figure out that they love each other and are perfect for each other.

I have no idea how they're going to finish this in one episode but I am seated for the final. I've really enjoyed it and Boss and Noeul have delivered. As with so many BLs it could have done really well with more episodes but at least I'm assuming there'll be a special episode.

So Karan can both see the future AND turn back time! And she's been trying to save Kluen for 10 years!! My mind is blown!!! I still have no idea where this is going but I am seated for it.

This show just draws me in and engages me so well even if I do wanna strangle all of the characters at some point during each episode. I just wanna knock some sense into them but I have to remind myself that this is exactly what it's like to be a teenager and I honestly feel a little bad for them having to grow up so entrenched in social media.

The ending fell a little flat but it's still a solid little BL. If you like Korean BL you'll definitely like this

I'm less mad at this show now than I was last week since they seemed to go to great lengths this week to say that what Miss Pemika gave MARS and Po wasn't what they wanted or needed. Now I'm just more confused about the choices made last episode and I do think that there isn't enough episodes left for us to get a satisfying resolution but I'll happily be proved wrong. One thing's for sure: I can't wait to see Thame react to Po and the rest of MARS reach out to him. He's gotten manipulated to hell and back by Miss Pemika so now he deserves some happiness!
