Characters: Billy Brennan/Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler Summary: 5 times Alan couldn’t be there for Billy (but still kind of managed to be), and 1 time he was.

He startled awake with a strangled shout, feeling like he was falling, drowning, dying. Instinctively, his fingers curled around something soft and held on tight. Still gasping for breath, Billy turned his head and nearly wept at the sight of Alan’s hat – damp and a little worse for wear but blessedly intact. Billy’s sob of relief gets drowned out by a roll of thunder. It’s working. The stupid satellite phone he stole is working, and Ellie is home against all odds and picked up the call and he’s no longer alone in this mess and–

“Hello? Listen, if this is another prank call I’ll–“

“No!” Billy manages to choke out before she can hang up on him. Lightning criss-crosses across the jungle sky and he flinches. The phone nearly slips from his fingers and he presses it more tightly against his ear – as if that will bring him a little closer to home. “No, please! Don’t hang up. It’s – it’s me. Billy.”
