maybe some domestic fluff w/ aku like lazy mornings together? making tea/coffee, cuddling, him not letting you get out of bed🤭 hope you feel better lovely, the laundry detergent is literally foul bruh WHO DOES THAT :(((
I feel like Akutagawa is so soft and sweet in the morning. No one can be all tough and scary right after they wake up, you know??? one of my favorite posts that i think about literally every day is "humans are not meant to wake up and jump straight out of bed, they're meant to stretch and wiggle and hit snooze" and i quite literally live by that
akutagawa is all tired eyes and messy hair, and he's prob just in a black t-shirt and shorts or his underwear or something. he might have sleep lines on his face from where his arm or his pillow was mashed into his cheek for hours.
the sun shining in the room from the open curtains would make him look so soft and fuzzy (in that way the sun kinda blurs your vision sometimes yanno?)
you could probably reach over and play with the ends of his hair really gently or push his hair out of his face and pulls the blankets up over his shoulder to tuck him in a little more, and he probably wouldn't react because even subconsciously he knows he's safe, he knows he's with you. in the past or if he was alone he would jump at any little touch, but on a nice coy soft morning he's still and he sleeps deeply which he doesnt usually do
when he does finally wake up--probably at the feeling of the bed moving as you try to get up sneakily--his arms instinctively reach out for you. the first thing he wants to do in the morning is make sure his love is still there, still safe, still with him, so even before his eyes are open, even before he's processed any noises or movements, even before he's stretched and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and checked what time it is, he's reaching for you.
when he realizes that you're trying to get up he makes an incoherent noise, some type of grumble as he tries to take his voice up, just some sort of noise to let you know that he's displeased. no, don't get up, he's basically saying. stay with me. lay back down.
you usually relent. it's a game, kind of, trying to get up without waking him up. you'd feel accomplished if you could do it, but you'd also miss the feeling of him reaching for you. you've never actually managed to get all the way up without him waking up. the final loss of your weight on the bed always wakes him, and his arms or his hands always manage to find you before you can fully get away.
sometimes you think he's fallen back asleep as you're laying there, wrapped up in his warm arms, waiting for him to open his eyes. he always denies it when you ask, though, the first crackles of his voice tumbling out defensively. "i am awake, if only barely"
"shall i make us some morning tea?"
"five more minutes."
and you always oblige him, always without fail you lay together, him counting seconds off in his head until he has to force himself to let go of this single piece of peace that he gets in his hectic life, and you relishing in being held, in holding, in being warm and loved and calm and good

Bungou Stary Dog Head canons(Pt.1?)
Dazai had a lisp when he had braces as a teen, and Chuuya would tease him about it
Tachihara convinced Gin and Hirotsu to get matching Black Lizard Tattoos
When Nikolai first discovered his ability, he would use it to absolutely terrorize people in games of hide and seek and tag.
Every year on his birthday, Dazai will skip out on work and bring a drink and extra glass to Odasaku’s grave. He pours the whisker into the extra glass and places it next to Odasaku’s grave, and drinks straight from the bottle.
Hirotsu was assigned to teach Dazai, Gin, and Tachihara how to drive.
Dazai never paid attention so he still sucks at driving
Yosano is Ranpo’s wing-woman whenever he needs one
Junichiro is a theater kid
Kouyou is the member the Port mafia go to when they need a haircut
Kajji is banned from playing UNO with the executives because the last time he played, he got mad and tried to use lemon bombs
Fyodor learned of his ability when he and his significant other had been murdered by a stranger, and he had taken the culprit's body. Left alone without his S/O
Going back to ^, Fyodor avoids gaining meaningful connections in case of instances like this
Akutagawa and Gin share an apartment, and Tachihara will show up uninvited
Chuuya takes Q and Elise to the playground around once a week
Naomi’s natural hair color was blonde but dyed it
Kunikida calls his mom weekly, but has to stay away from Dazai because he will make interruptions
Yosano, Ranpo, and occasionally Dazai will meet up to just talk about Gossip
Ranpo knew from day one Dazai was a PM executive
Fukuzawa gets father’s day cards from Yosano, Ranpo, Kenji, and now Kyouka every year
The coat that Dazai has is one of the One’s Oda had in his closet
Dazai didn’t wash his hands for days after Oda died
Atsushi let Kyouka paint his nails before
Every time Kenji returns to the ADA from his farm, he brings Kyouka a new flower for her hair
Q and Elise will have tea parties together
When fyodor wrote sigma into the book, he forgot to write a gender, so Sigma is essentially genderless
Dazai should wear glasses, but he’s too lazy to
Kouyou judges Chuuya for his haircut sometimes
A part of Chuuya was disappointed when Dazai left, but he just pretended to be relieved
Love craft showing up to any Guild meeting is a once in a blue moon event.
Jouno and Tecchou have had arguments about Pineapple on pizza that lead to having Teruko break the argument up

Dazai, on the phone: Anyway, Chuuya, I gotta go, it's Tuesday, it's wash day. Chuuya: Wait. Dazai: What? Chuuya: Did you say wash day? Dazai: Uh, yeah. You've never heard of such a thing, silly slug? Chuuya: With your limp ass, flat ass, brittle ass hair what the fuck do you mean wash day? Dazai: What does wash day have to do with my hair? Chuuya: *gags audibly*

This is so ridiculous that it would definitely work xd
Atsushi and Dazai should just start shit talking to get Aku and Chuuya to break out of the vampirism. just like “not u losing to a vampire ability rn damn no wonder port mafia sucks” bc personally I couldn’t let that slide pure pettiness and spite would awaken me
Dazai: not u growling and hissing at me rn I always knew u were a dog Chuuya: Chuuya: u will die by my hands today. Dazai: aaaand he’s back <3
Atsushi: Dazai put us together and look at u playing for the other team tsk tsk he’d be so disappointed Aku: Aku: what did u just say to me Atsushi: omg ur back. sorry I was just joking Aku: no what did u just say to me
enough of that “this isn’t like u [begging eyes emoji] [sparkle sparkle]” it’s time to switch tactics. RISE. RISEEEEE. where is ur fucking rage? where is ur anger?

fic where akutagawa's insults gradually turn into sarcastic "compliments" (canon) like referring to atsushi as a 'do-gooder' or 'soft' or 'overly kind' but in a mocking way but the sarcastic tone flies over atsushi's head and he assumes that theyre besties now and no matter what aku says atsushi wont be un-persuaded

Stray Thoughts on Bungo Stray Dogs: 55 Minutes [SPOILERS]
I just finished the amazing 55 Minutes light novel. These are some thoughts I occasionally typed out as I was reading.
(If you haven't read the novel this is all going to sound batshit.)
Casually admitting to breaking into the weather bureau because a weather report was wrong is a top-10 Kunikida moment.
Dazai giggling in trash cans reminds me of the laughing honey pot from the "Heffalumps and Woozles" sequence in Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.
Poor Atsushi bombing at improv in front of the thieves while trying to stall for Kunikida to show up.
Okay, so we can add "Watched everything I know and love perish before dying myself in an earlier timeline, having the memory imprinted on my present self, and redoing an investigation from the beginning with a new ulterior goal with millions of lives hanging in the balance" to Atsushi's extensive list of traumas.
Kunikida puts just as much faith in Dazai as Atsushi does.
Atsushi taking the time to scare Dazai is such a little brother move.
Dazai immediately getting Atsushi back is such a big brother move.
Oh my god, Atsushi and Akutagawa died together in the other timeline! And now this timeline's SSKK are imprinted-memories-of-a-localized-apocalypse buddies! I can totally be normal about that. Maybe.
Oh good, Atsushi gets to embarrass himself twice when dealing with the thieves. At least he handled it well the second time around.
Jesus, how much pudding did Dazai force-feed a guy for it to qualify as torture?
Nice to know that canon!Atsushi and (presumably) BEAST!Atsushi share stealth skills. Makes sense. They both snuck into the kitchen to make themselves a decent meal at an orphanage that would beat them for just breathing.
Confirmation that Atsushi is "covered in scars" beyond the two burns on his torso, meaning that he only recently inherited the tiger's powers of regeneration.
Higuchi celebrating getting a compliment from Akutagawa is adorable.
I love watching Atsushi grow as an actual detective. It's easy to miss because he's often around Dazai and Ranpo, but I've always maintained that he's pretty smart in his own right. He figures a lot of things out for himself.
Kunikida heading the "How to save Dazai if he dies" committee is very sweet.
It's funny how the easiest way to get SSKK to get along in the early days was for a villain to suggest that they could get along.
"Finish it. Bring him peace." Damn, Aku.
That last bit with Wells… Fuck.

Don't get me wrong I find Dark Era Dazai's still an idiot who lacks the sympathy or patience to mould someone that's obstinate amd full of rawness properly as Akutagawa but there is no way he views his apprentice as a mere tool. His whole thing is he's the one that's no longer human compared to the rest of the world that clicks together in society.
Sorry friend I know you kin Aku but you're actually wrong about what he means to Dazai. Also I wasn't joking. This is literally me pointing and going "This is what Dazai said was his reasoning for why he trained him like that." This is an example of how Dazai feared Aku would treat all his problems when he first met him. I only worded it as a joke because I'm funny like that.
#i love sskk so much both individually and together#but god damn are they both kinda stupid#but that said this is true#aku always has a sadistic hunger and pursuit that blinds him from easing up on senseless violence so much that logic escapes him#beast exemplifies this the most as this trait is painted as evil in gin's eyes when aku refuses to talk to people and fights his way to her#aku's the one viewing himself as a demon but unlike say chuuya/kyouka he has little interest in catering for people just only obeying orders#almost like a violent hound if you will#how do you train a dog? through conditioning them to associate boundaries and rules#associating wanted actions with positive reinforcement and treats; unwanted actions with discouragement and deterrence#problem is akutagawa doesn't react to rewards like money/affection enough to change himself when he's so shaped by poverty's life and death#to the point survival of the fittest means the elimination of weaklings around him which is unsuitable for the port mafia's logical violence#so dazai went: violence must be the only way to get into aku's thick noggin and praising aku might get him over his head to be more violent#so no visible acknowledgement from dazai at all from aku while he enjoys working/being with hirotsu chuuya odasaku etc.#and so that's how canon aku is shaped to idolise dazai and so the insecurity takes root at anyone (odasaku atsushi) who dazai acknowledges#that hasn't proven themselves in aku's eyes to be strong and therefore worthy of respect (like chuuya)#wrong guy to idolise kid#have you seen the stinking fish man#he's so stupid and slimey#why do you want dazai's praise? he actually already accepted you#look into yourself — probably atsushi#bsd#bsd akutagawa#bsd dazai#cringing at the both of them why are they like this

A happy (mackerel eyed) family :) So uhm... I had this idea for an AU where Dazai takes his 'pupils' away from the Port Mafia after a change of heart (? Dazai is 17, Akutagawa 15 and Yumeno 6... or 7 o( ❛ᴗ❛ )o I think those are their canon ages :]
Get a bit of lore!! Or well just my thoughts on this AU hehe (its pretty recent). After knowing Odasaku for a while (like a year I think?) Dazai gets this idea on his head that to be 'happy' and 'a good person' like Oda he must be like him (? So what is it that makes Odasaku happy? His kids!! But then Dazai's like "but I don't have kids :(" until he remembers the poor kid he left abandoned in the Port Mafia basement and Akutagawa, who he knows has not treated well but... people can change right? :D He goes to Akutagawa "hey let's leave the port mafia just the two (and kyu) of us, your sister will be fine here don't worry" and of course he says yes to whatever Dazai wants (;w;) and then they both secretly steal Kyusaku from the basement™️and the kid's like "you literally were the one that put me in here" and Dazai "yeah but now I'm taking you out so the three of us can escape together :D" and Kyusaku's "yeah ok that sounds great :)" and inconspicuously run away from the mafia 👍 (Before this whole mission starts though Dazai goes to Chuuya asking him if he wants to leave the mafia and Chuuya's like "yeah right you obviously won't leave" but ahm... he does... and Chuuya ends up alone 👍) So the three of them are in the run because Dazai didn't really have a plan for more than a few days, this whole idea coming to him out in a whim (yes yes very ooc sorry orz). Of course the whole mafia is looking for them but it is Odasaku and Ango who find them first!! (in that very ditch from the drawing hehe). He ends up telling him the whole 'plan' and in the end Ango reveals himself to them as a double agent and speedruns Dazai's connection to Taneda. At the end, Dazai, Akutagawa and Kyusaku end up in the care of the ADA :D (or maybe they stay under the government's wing for a while until Fukuzawa is ready to take them) I'm guessing that now that Odasaku knows about Ango maybe he gets the courage to also leave the Port Mafia before all that Mimic fiasco (〃^▽^〃) (Thank you if you read this far!! <3)

facts abt my post canon bsd au (mostly atsushi and ada centric)
◇ takes place 4 years after everything with the DoA and Hunting Dogs is settled
◇ atsushi grows his hair back out so it's a little past his shoulders
◇ sigma joins the ADA
◇ fukuzawa retires but still comes around to check on his kids former employees and is on standby in case of any future disaster
◇ kunikida and ranpo agree to co-lead the agency. kunikida takes care of most of the paperwork and employee affairs (pour one out for kida) while ranpo keeps an eye out for cases that could be DoA level threat
◇ everybody gets therapy 🥳🎉!! that government hush money compensation check for being attacked by the Hunting Dogs was partially spent on a getting therapists who could actually help them with their issues (pour another one out for the therapists bc the shit they have to deal with...)
◇ genderfluid atsushi (he/she/they), agender dazai (he/him or it/its), nonbinary sigma (they/he)
◇ kunichuuzai canon. dazai and kunikida got together first, then kunikida and chuuya and finally after many schemes dazai and chuuya talked abt their feelings for each other and got together shortly after
◇ atsushi joins a local community college because she realized she can do stuff for herself outside of working. he's studying literature
◇ kyoka and kenji tried to go regular school for a short while before they realized that that they hated it, so kunikida toutered them helped them get a GED (public school couldn't handle them anyway)
(Idt its that bad but just in case) tw: implied w33d usage, implied paranoia, implied hallucinations.
◇ reason why atsushi was finally sent to therapy was bc they were convinced to get high to help their anxiety (one guess who convinced them) and had a bad trip. they got extremely paranoid, mentioned times he would hallucinate and had several concerning statements about himself. when he sobered up the agency said they were going and she only agreed to go if dazai went and surprisingly dazai agreed to go.(dazai planned to go one session and was somehow conned by his therapist to continue going)
◇ found family dazai, atsushi, Kyoka
◇ but also blood family bc wow dazai and atsushi are half siblings!! (Their dad was a hoe, I'll get into in a separate post)
◇ atsushi's orphanage gets shut down (ada birthday gift for atsushi) and gets a documentary made due to the horrific treatment of the children there
◇ sparring buddies chuuya and atsushi
◇ kyoka, kenji, aya and q friendship
◇ after being turned into a vampire akutagawa has sharper canines than the average human and while his lungs are slightly better he carries any inhaler with him just in case
◇ atsushi has more control over his ability in the future and can now shift into his full tiger form on command and communicate with byakko
◇ dazai is also working to control his ability more and can now shut it off for a few minutes before it kicks back on
◇ byakko is a sentient ability similar to arahbaki. she has been around for centuries and has had many different hosts, one who was the author of The Book.
◇ how did they defeat fyodor? Uhhhh he got eaten by rats, turned into one, the tiger ate him and bc of ability bs he stayed dead next question
◇ dazai also has slightly long hair and now uses a cane
◇ tanazaki sibs finally work on their codependency issues
◇ yosano and tachihara go to lunch every few weeks to talk abt shunzen and bond
◇ akuatsulucy canon
◇ sigma and ranpo bet on random shit together and ranpo is surprised at how talented sigma is at betting
◇ ranpoe are long distance relationship atm but poe is making arrangements to move to yokohama
◇ mori steps down as head of mafia for...reasons and kouyou swifty takes charge of the pm (it was supposed to be chuuya but he threatened to leave the whole city and dazai agreed to help sooo kouyou)
◇ atsushi and lucy take edibles
◇ atsushi and yosano both hate being called angel. If you do it it's the fastest way to lose an arm
ive got nothing else to add to this atm so I might make second part one day. this was made before the recent chapters and wildly ignores canon and is built off of most of my headcanons. Bye 👋🏽 👋🏽

Oh I loved your post about the whole guild arc and ADA&PM complicated relationship, that was beautifully written and it captured everything that I couldn't put it into words myself.
And the way you talked about Mori? Thank you, thank you thank you! While I'm don't mind the fandom misinterpretation of characters, it was quite refreshing to see someone talk about Mori as a human being that's not purely evil.
Now if you if you don't mind.. I need to know your opinion on this hypothetical theory: that Mori regrets everything he has done to Dazai and Yosano (this is canon) and he is actually trying to change and do better (the hypothetical part).
This is why he wants both Dazai and Yosano back, other than the fact that he cares for them, he also wants to try again and do better.
My reason for saying this is:
Looking at chaptet 14, if everything is taken at face value, when Mori makes the strategic decision to sacrifice Akutagawa for avoiding an all-out turf and keeping peace, it's really similar with how he sacrificed Oda to avoid bigger conflicts in future**.
But while looking at the meeting Higuchi had with Mori at the start of the chapter, somethings bothered me 1) Mori's inscrutable stare at Higuchi's reaction when he mentioned the possibility of Akutagawa not recovering 2)how Mori specifically lets Higuchi to know what will becomes of Akutagawa's situation and what PM's solution for it would be.
This made me think Mori knew what action Higuchi would take later and was counting on it. Plus I'm pretty sure Mori knows Akutagawa and Gin are siblings, so he also knew Gin also would go save her brother.
And I find it odd how in this chapter everything got resolved with 1)PM winning and their enemies destroyed 2)PM managed to take back their stolen agent 3)the whole thing was in the end just a squabble between agents and nothing more.
What I'm trying to say is, I like to think Mori values his agents more now and wouldn't just sacrifice them in a cold and calculating scheme. Maybe I'm reading to much into things here...
(**I know comparing the dark era situation with Oda and chapter 14 like this isn't quite right but that's the only frame of reference I could think of)
anon thank you <3 I don't get why people want him to be pure evil. it's so much more fucked up and richly acidic that he loves fiercely and jealously and feels their loss like a brain bleed.
i don't think he regrets it though. he says as such to hirotsu with regard to dazai while staring at the old boss's bed. he'd do the same, again and again and again. what he did re: the great war was try to stop war; and because of what he did re: mimic, yosano and dazai live in a world where they are safe and loved and driven to save and love others. mori may want them back, but mori wants lots of things he can't have (control, ango's head on a spike, verlaine to stop smoking indoors). he can live with want. it's senseless loss of life that won't do.
also, re: akutagawa, yeah, i have no idea why people think mori would sacrifice akutagawa. like, even if you think mori is evil, like. why would he do that. to what end.
but!!!!!!!!!! anon, you've misunderstood our wife. mori didn't make a strategic decision to sacrifice akutagawa either. mori made the strategic decision to surround akutagawa with people who won't let him self destruct. mori is aware that akutagawa is a horse hellbent on breaking his own legs, and he accounts for it.
and it's not because he's changing. he doesn't need to change, there isn't anything wrong with him. that is how he loves; he meets the needs of his people by placing with others and in positions where they have a support network. this is literally canon, like, it is both illustrated and exposited in stormbringer, and also literally every arc.
mari mori wrote about this trait of irl mori's btw:
"It was not his fault if his love, despite its depth and greatness, lacked warmth. Like a creature carrying its shell, he had this lump inside him and yet he loved people. I can see this clearly in my mind's eye."
he's also always valued his people. when the flags were killed, mori attended their funerals with their families. re: oda, mimic was destabilizing the city and killing his people. mimic was an existential threat who wouldn't stop until they got what they wanted. the special division backed mori into a corner by predicating legitimacy and his capacity to realize the entire point of him spending years in the grime and bloodshed that was seizing control of the port mafia on him demonstrating that the port mafia could contain the violence. and they had JUST started to recover from the dragon head conflict. it wasn't cold or calculating, it was a trolley problem and mori doesn't love it when the french kill his people en masse, which is a thing that keeps happening to him.
anyway, below i explain why mori was livid at higuchi. it has to do with higuchi being a horse girl.
Akutagawa kills the way pet dogs and cats do when allowed to free roam, which is superfluously and way outside of the scope of necessity. He quite literally violates his express orders from Mori so frequently that Mori says, "Besides, Akutagawa-kun has always been that way. Going rogue, destroying everything in his path, and contributing the most in the end. One could say he has a knack for it. There's no need to punish him as long as he keeps succeeding."
Consider what "succeeding" means in the context of that particular quote from Mori— Akutagawa has both protected the city and himself survived it. The only time Mori has remarked that Akutagawa failed, it's not only that Akutagawa did not traffic Atsushi, it's that he lost himself, engaged in relentless violence without any regard for his own life, and blew up in a ship because of it. And he did it for nothing. Nothing was gained from him nearly self immolating. There was no purpose to it. Not only has Akutagawa potentially rendered himself permanently comatose, but he did so in such a way that invited others to come finish the job, and Mori can't act to protect him without risking greater escalation.
Mori is furious, not because he considers Akutagawa expendable, because Akutagawa treated himself as if he were. He doesn't even call Akutagawa a liability; he says being retaliated against is a liability, Higuchi accuses him of calling Akutagawa a liability, and he affirms that Akutagawa is talented and his violence (their currency) outclasses anyone in the Port Mafia, and then asks her, "But what about you? Have you ever thought about whether you are suited for this work?"
Mori knows and values Akutagawa for who he is, but because he knows who Akutagawa is, he knows Akutagawa is prone to and invites violence onto himself. Higuchi has a skill, but not one that is apparent or combative. She is clumsy, not particularly skilled at fighting, and hopelessly silly. She also adores Akutagawa, she looks at him like he hung the moon, she trips over herself to attend to him. And, when she thought Byakko was about to kill Akutagawa, she intervened to draw it away from him, and when Akutagawa thought Byakko was about to kill her, he did not hesitate to lash out to kill before it could. He does not instinctively protect himself, that's much of what Dazai's acts of violence were meant to build from scratch, but he does instinctively protect Higuchi.
Mori is angry at Higuchi when she wasn't even on the ship with Akutagawa, and he remarks with utter disdain on the choices they made that led to that moment, including the raid on the Agency. He tells her Akutagawa is good at violence, but does she really think she's suited for it? Gin holds a knife to her throat, and Hirotsu reminds her that while she has the authority to command them, it isn't their titles that command their loyalty, it's their reverence for Akutagawa, and she should consider what there is for them to respect with Akutagawa unable to move. It's easy to construe this as suggesting they don't respect her or would be quick to kill one another if given the opportunity because they're scary, violent mafioso. Then, she flashes back to Akutagawa's deranged bombing of the smugglers. Which he did without her, she was running to catch him and insisting she was supposed to assist him, he tells her he doesn't need anyone, and then he scampers off to go make terrible choices. She reflects to herself that she isn't suited to the Mafia, that she sought to leave it but then stayed, evidently because of him. In the end, it's her stubbornness and willingness to rescue him that compels Black Lizard to not only join her but give her deference as their commander.
She is not suited to violence, but her authority in the Port Mafia is such that she only answers to Mori and Akutagawa.
irl!Higuchi added a special awareness of suffering and sensitivity in her exploration of low-life characters. That's what she's good at. She shouldn't forget it, those low-lifes need her.
(but also, literally, yeah; Gin is his little sister and Mori has ALWAYS trusted his silliest, most idiot babies to Hirotsu. Hirotsu is like that elderly gray wolf in yellowstone who just gave birth for the 10th time and uses her aged sagacity to keep the other wolves out of trouble. just like that wolf, Hirotsu is old as shit by Port Mafia standards. and has shown no evidence of menopause.)

Sometimes, I am baffled by the way people choose to write fics and character dynamice when they're doing like, slice-of-life, no thoughts head empty kinda stories, and they make the flawed characters even worse than in canon, or flat-out evil.
Not that they're doing anything wrong, I just don't understand.
Like, I love to read fics where Endeavor does his absolute best for his children, and his children slowly heal and forgive and become a family. I am Dazai Osamu's greatest hater, but of course I would like to read about him regretting what he did to Akutagawa and wanting to fix their relationship because he cares?? Why wouldn't I want to read about Severus Snape realizing that not a single adult cares to actually raise Harry and automatically stepping in as a father figure??
Why would you make them worse than they canonically are, erasing some actions and intentions? Do people not like happiness? I write fics because I usually want my faves to have love and affection, always. To fix past mistakes. To resolve regrets. To be better, to love better.
Might just be me, idk.

hi!! i was wondering if you could tell us more about akutagawa and dazai's relationship/dynamic? is there abuse? was there abuse, but it stopped after chuuya left (or was driven out, more accurately)? sorry, i just think their dynamic is so interesting in canon and i'd absolutely love more insight on them within your switch au
hello!! thank you for asking! essentially it’s: prior to chuuya’s departure, their relationship was canon compliant. post-chuuya, dazai made more of an effort to treat akutagawa as a serious apprentice (similar to how he treats atsushi in canon, however still with typical banter). they’re not perfect and as seen in previous posts, dazai still can be harsh but he sees potential in akutagawa. really, this shift in their dynamic was rooted in odasaku’s death. it was why dazai made the decision to run chuuya out of the mafia but it also was why dazai started taking training akutagawa even more seriously and with more forethought and tact.
akutagawa is still reliant on dazai’s approval and that in and of itself is where some of his ire towards atsushi comes from. however, he’s grown more comfortable in pushing back on dazai when things come to a head. at the end of the day, akutagawa is wholly loyal to dazai’s whim.

I love Soukoku and attempting to deny their bond and the homoeroticism there would make all of us look stupid. But I kind of hate how their relationship during the Mafia days gets interpreted by most of the fandom. Because that’s not Dazai, and Chuuya already has/has had that with other people.
For example: A friend who barges into his apartment at all hours of the day and night? Canonically Albatross did that.
Chuuya is a person who thrives off of community in a way that Dazai refuses to. That’s why he finds it again and again (the Sheep, the Flags, whoever those friends were that died during the Dragon’s Head Conflict, the PM in general). So, this idea that Chuuya had no one to trust except Dazai is both wrong and displays a fundamental misunderstanding of Chuuya’s character.
Chuuya is a trusting person. He trusts people and he likes to be surrounded by them. He’d never put all his eggs in one basket especially if that basket is Dazai.
Dazai is the opposite. He isolates himself and operates alone most of the time. Other than Oda and Ango, Dazai didn’t have a lot of people around him that he genuinely liked and enjoyed spending time with. He has a very twisted self image (which isn’t helped by Oda’s misunderstanding of Dazai as a person), so he keeps people away as a defense mechanism.
I’m not saying that Chuuya and Dazai weren’t close at all (their inside jokes, code names, etc. all prove they were), or that Chuuya wasn’t affected by Dazai leaving the mafia. But I want everyone to consider who Dazai was while in the mafia. He wasn’t really capable of vulnerability at all. Chuuya was not an exception to that. Fifteen, Storm Bringer, the Dead Apple flashbacks, and allusions Chuuya has made are all evidence of that.
Dazai’s relationship with Chuuya was honestly probably closer to Dazai’s relationship with Akutagawa than anything else. He did care about Chuuya, but he was probably incapable of expressing it in a healthy or affirming way.
