Instead of writing fic where you genderbend the ukes and make them str8 couples (😐) genderbend the entirety of sih and make the central conflict about Akihiko and fem!Ritsu's lavender marriage
#sihjr#fem!ritsu's mother would be all about getting her only daughter married and pumping out babies asap#to the point where she threatens to cut her off and get her blacklisted from the publishing industry if she doesnt shack up within the year#ritsu breaks down and cries in front of akihiko abt it and he proposes to her on the spot#of course shes FREAKED bc wtf but then he explains that hes gay and in love w someone he cant have and doesnt want him to know#that he is worried that being outed will ruin the career that his saving grace from his own toxic overbearing family#not to mention the fact that ritsu is beautiful and comes from old money and are around the same age so it wouldnt be too scandalous#and also that he can absolutely tell that shes a huge lesbian so why not just elope and continue living their lives#no one would be able to come up with a reason to disapprove bc they both have similar backgrounds and statuses#their families would be pissed that they married without their 'permission' and just the loss of control over their kids#but they cant admit it out loud so they all would just have to suck it up and play happy family in front of all the cameras#he promises that theyll never share a bed or even a room. she can just sleep in the guest bedroom if she wants#and also hell pay for a nicer apartment with better security#so ritsu is very afraid but her mother has already done some really terrible things to make it so that ritsu would have no choice#but to marry someone. like hiding her passport and promising her daughter to the kohinata family and making it seem like ritsu wants to#marry their son. so she says yes and he goes out and buys her a crazy ring that can be seen from space and sets up a ceremony for later#that month and they get married. this all happens a few years before he meets misaki#misaki ofc is very confused bc akihikos sudden marriage to the beautiful onodera heiress made national headlines years ago so y is he#all over him?? and where IS she?? does she not live in this giant penthouse w her husband and his ocean sized bed?#akihiko tells him not to worry his pretty little head abt all that but misaki just cant be the side piece or a homewrecker!#aki ofc doesnt care bc he knows ritsu doesnt care. theyve both agreed that they can date whoever as long as its discreet and she has#her own life and apartment and only sees him sporadically just to keep up appearances#ritsu and misaki meet at one of his award ceremonies and poor misaki is so confused nd a lil scared bc she is rlly nice#what if its all an act to get his guard down so she can effectively exact revenge for sleeping w her husband? what if she doesnt know??#yknow something like that#headcanons#genderbend

[continued from here]
Definitely not the most graceful way to change topics, but Akihiko’s fairly sure that eloquence would just serve as yet another obstacle between him and the things he needs to say.
Shinji hums and leans his chin in his hand, looking perturbed.
It’s not exactly a clear picture, but Akihiko can’t blame Shinji for not knowing precisely how to describe something like that. He doesn’t think he’d be able to, either. Despite generally being taciturn by nature, Shinji’s always been better with words between the two of them; so if he’s struggling to find the right ones then Akihiko wouldn’t stand a chance.
That might have been everyone talking to him. If that’s the case, then Shinji hadn’t heard anything they’d said, at least not clearly…
Well. Except for Akihiko, apparently, if the smart remark from yesterday was anything to go by. He isn’t sure whether to be flattered or mortified.
Or guilty. If he’d tried talking to Shinji sooner, would it have made a difference? He has no idea, and now he’ll never know.
He’s not sure how Shinji will react, but he deserves to know how much he’s cared for. Whether Shinji accepts it or not, or if even believes it, is a different story. But he’ll do everything in his power to try and get it through Shinji’s thick skull. Shinji might be as stubborn as a wild ass, but so is Akihiko.
Clearly Shinji doesn’t believe him at all. Well, it’s not like he really thought it would be that easy to convince him.

What if Chihiro Fushimi Joined SEES (Part 2)
Had to rewatch the P3 ending to amp myself up to do this. Don’t mind the tears…or the river of em flowing through the post. That’s normal. Anyway. This part will be covering some misc stuff like School life, minor changes, and right up to the June full moon operation. With that being said. Lets get into it.
TW//Bullying
“SOTERIA!!!”
Soteria is Chihiro Fushimis persona. The goddess of safety and salvation, deliverance, and preservation from harm…funny that she will exactly USE harm to protect others from it.
While Soteria does learn spells like Tetrakarn and Makarakarn and some defensive increasing skills. That’s not all her Persona can do.
This persona is well known for its high magic stat, but more importantly…she’s the teams nuke button.
Her most upgraded move besides the Agi skill line is the Megi skill line. For those who don’t remember. Megi moves are pure almighty damage, a damage type that can’t be blocked.
Why did I decide to give the terrified nervous wreck a nuke? Cause I thought it would be funny. Don’t worry, it drains her magic fast so you can’t go spamming it. You’re gonna have to actually use her fire skills until much later on when she gets an sp cost reduction skill.
Soteria is best described appearance wise as a graceful looking woman with angelic wings yet in her hands are a giant shield and a crackling hand mixed with agi and megi effects. She’d have some unique patterns on her arms and would have her eyes covered by a flower crown.
Now enough about Chihiros Persona, lets see how this girl is with the rest of the teammates and what she does outside of battle.
Of course she’s still the student council treasurer so she’s in there with Mitsuru from time to time but really, it’s more of a “friendly business partners” relationship rather than a true genuine sisterly friendship for right now.
Now on the other end of things are her dorm-mates. Yukari is often really close with Chihiro. She talks to her quite often about her mangas and how club meetings go while Yukari just listens or at least tries to act engaged at the very least.
Yukari can be a bit protective of her but not often. Just helping at times when she gets too nervous around Akihiko. Other times though, despite Chihiros protests, she throws the girl to the wolves with one particular man to help her overcome her fears. That one man is…
Junpei….is…an interesting case with Chihiro. They both like manga and nerdy things at times so besides the male fear thing, you’d think they’d be the best of friends. Well, kinda. She’s too nervous right now to fully hang out with him and watches from a corner usually. Often wondering how he has so much time to slack on his studies when she’s seen his exam scores. She’d reprimand him if she had the courage to…
Yukari is definitely gonna help this girl slightly tolerate this man if it kills her.
Or at least have her join the “Stupei, Ace Defective” roasting club.
Both options work too.
Chihiro doesn’t have much to talk about with Akihiko. If Junpei was a bit much for her at this level, then a guy who talks about getting stronger and fighting with, to her, not much in common is gonna put her off a bit more…but then again, she seems fine with Hidetoshi so who knows? Maybe they’ll be better friends in the near future.
Insert Makoto Yukis/Door Doors social link here.
What? You thought I was gonna write something for Makoto now? It’s basically going the same as her SL. They’re friends and she likes being around him.
…
…
…
Okay fine, maybe I’m planning something but you’ll have to wait until later in the story. For now. They’re friends. Like…rank 4 at best.
In the overworld, Chihiro can often be seen staring at Bookworms, thinking of going in. Heck maybe even considering asking for a part time job, this girl surrounded by books would think it’s a dream job.
She can also be spotted around the mall, checking out the CD shops or wondering if maybe someday Makoto will take her into Club Escapade…but she’s gotta get her own courage in check so we’ll check in on this subplot later.
At night, there is a rare chance that you won’t be able to use the computer there because Chihiro’s on it.
She’s either gonna be studying or looking at this weird new webcomic. It’s apparently about a boy and his three friends playing a video game? You aren’t sure yet because all you see is a boy kissing his poster goodbye while his friend plays the violin. It’s weird but hey, nobody said she can’t have weird interests.
Now that the current dorm life is out of the way, lets get into the story this time.
A reason Yukari may be a bit protectivr if Chihiro is because she’s been hearing about this currently being bullied by three girls.
It’s really starting to piss her off actually. But she bites her tongue for right now.
Most of May and such plays out as normal but instead of the ghost hunting team being just you, Yukari and Junpei, this girl gets in on it too…she wishes she wasn’t because she didn’t know wether to be afraid of ghosts or Junpei in the dark, or confused by how laughable his missing girl story was.
Nevertheless she joins their investigation with some reluctance…mainly Yukari saying it’ll help her.
For once though when they decide to go to the sketchy alleys of Port Island Station at night, she’s siding with Junpei in possibly wanting to back out.
Dear lord the girl was not only not made for scared, but for seeing Junpei get headbutted by a terrifying guy while being harassed by others.
And then there’s Shinji…
Poor girl just about fainted when she saw him. He’s downright terrifying. He seems nice but the poor gi-oh…she passed out. Poor thing.
When she gets back to the dorm she’s out for the whole night, cuddling with a pillow from fear…yeah Yukari may need to apologize later to her for doing that.
Weirdly enough though, the fact she felt like she “survived” something like that feels a bit relieving in her. Like she CAN do scary stuff and will be braver…eventually. For now though. Fuukas case takes high priority.
Hearing this Fuuka girl was getting bullied by Natsuki was bad enough, learning she could be dead is slightly pissing her off…then she learns Mr. Ekoda hid this information from everyone…someone hold this girl back she’s gonna take her paper fan and jam it down his throat.
Thankfully she heard Mitsuru got to him but she’s still pissed. Who knew this sweetheart could have a tipping point that deep.
It doesn’t make her fear into a hatred thankfully, I mean…seeing Junpei get knocked down at the station made her feel scared sure but like she wanted to help and just felt powerless…maybe that’s why when he heard this girl was being bullied and her missing status was hidden was what caused her to lose her cool for a little.
Come the time to save them, she begs Makoto to please go with him to save Fuuka. She feels like she needs to meet this girl.
He doesn’t care
But she’s in the party with Aki and Junpei.
In retrospect, not a good idea for her but she’s holding back her fear to save this woman.
Authors realization: OH SHIT, I FORGOT HOW SHE FEELS ABOUT NATSUKI!!!!
So with Natsuki she feels, understandably, upset that she would bully this girl and locked her up. Though she does promise she’ll help find Fuuka.
Now back in Tartar Sauce, she’s slightly relieved yet worried to be split from the all guys party. When she finds Makoto though, she’s much calmer. When they find Fuuka though…dear lord this girl is so glad she’s alive.
Then she sees Mitsuru and Yukari are down for the count and hey, she can actually do damage to them…it’s weak damage though. If only there were some persona user who could read enemies weaknesses an- oh Fuuka did it.
The rest of the story here mainly plays out as normal.
Now with Fuuka on the team, how are she and Chihiro gonna get along?
Dear lordy, these two are like sisters. Scared, timid, shy, other similar words can best describe them to a T.
Fuuka looks up to Chihiro as her Senpai while Chihiro looks up to her as someone much smarter than her.
These two have a lot of study sessions together and it’s sort of the opposite of Yukari so far.
Instead of having Chihiro try and work past things asap, she’s more into having her take her time and do things at her own speed.
They even suggest starting a manga/book club too.
Fuuka isn’t fully into Mangas? Well by golly Fuuka will try for her new friends sake
And this is where we end for this part. Sorry it’s a bit sloppy and has so much run offs, it’s unorganized and all over the place. Okay a lot more work is needed but there was a lot to go over and I set my ambitions a bit high. I’ll try and organize things a bit better next time and make things more coherent.
Special thanks to my co-author @maze-of-my-design for the relationships list for this gal and helping with ideas for this series.
Hope you enjoyed reading it y’all.

The Arisato Household
Makoto is woken up to the sounds of banging on his front door.
Groggily, he sits up, craning his neck to peer at the clock on his nightstand. Through bleary eyes, he can just barely make out the time. 7:41 AM.
Great.
With a groan, he rolls over. Frankly, it’s none of his business who was at the door- Kotone usually takes care of that.
However, the banging persists, and is now accompanied by the sounds of voices as well.
Muffled though they are, Makoto is surprised to find he can still somewhat hear what they were saying.
“Okay, okay! Jeez, they’re gonna think you’re trying to rob them or something,” one voice says. Another makes a sound of dissent.
“Come on, like you wouldn’t do the same,” they say. Something about the voice’s tone strikes Makoto as oddly familiar.
Another voice pipes up, their tone soft and eager. “Should we try the doorbell?”
“Nah, they probably already know from the way this idiot was pounding on the door,” one says. How many people are outside...?
Makoto sighs, rolling out of bed. Logically, he knows he needs to take his medicine before anything else, but a larger part of him wants to confront whoever is at his door and get it the hell over with. He has better things to do, after all. Like homework.
When he steps into the living room, he sees Kotone already approaching the door. She glances at him, and he shrugs. Twin telepathy strikes again.
Kotone seizes the door handle, and tugs the door open.
There, on their doorstep, stands the old members of S.E.E.S.
Junpei and Yukari fling themselves at the two of them as soon as they make eye contact, yelling “Surprise!” and causing general chaos among everyone.
Makoto has enough comprehension left in his body to wrap his arms around Yukari tightly, spinning so her momentum won’t knock them both on their asses. His vision is blurry and he feels a familiar sting in his eyes and a wetness on his cheeks, and he buries his face in Yukari’s shoulder.
The next five minutes are filled with hugs, tears, and joyous exchanges of words. Kotone pulls Akihiko and Shinjiro in for a double hug, Makoto allows Mitsuru to pull him in for a brief embrace.
He’s in the middle of a (admittedly pleasant) chat with Fuuka when another person steps in through the door.
Makoto freezes. He can’t help it, really- he wasn’t expecting to see her here of all places.
Kotone screams and flings herself into Aigis’s arms, and Makoto is quick to follow.
Aigis is quick to tears, holding the both of them as best she can. Kotone clings to her like a lifeline, and Makoto leans against her, listening to the sounds of a beating heart and faint whirring.
When the twins finally step away from her, Makoto hurries to wipe his tears away. He really is happy that everyone is here, but it’s still a bit embarassing to cry in front of everyone.
“How...? And why?” Kotone asks after a moment of silence. Junpei scoffs, but the sound holds no malice.
“We could ask you the same thing, Kota-tan! I mean, one day you two just fell asleep, didn’t wake up for months, and now you’re both up and kickin’ again?”
Makoto shifts his weight where he stands. Where to begin with that story? Should they tell the others about their strange dream, about their vision of fog and a new Wild Card, about the Velvet Room and them waking up at the same time, the moment a transfer student stepped foot in Inaba?
Where do they begin?
“It’s a long story,” Kotone says with ease, “one that shouldn’t be told standing up on empty stomachs. Let’s get some food, and when we come back, Makoto and I will tell you everything we can.”
No one responds for a moment, but Ken’s stomach breaks the silence.
He glances away, his cheeks pink. Shinjiro nudges him with an elbow.
“Told ya you should’ve eaten before we left,” he said, and Ken graces him with a crude gesture in response.
Makoto doesn’t bother tamping down the laughter that bubbles up, and nods to the door. For the briefest moment, he recalls their victory on the Moonlight Bridge years ago, back when they thought they had defeated the Twelve Shadows and eradicated the Dark Hour. Back then, he and Kotone had laughed, and made their victory cheer something no one could argue with even now, years later.
“Let’s eat.”
YAYYY THE GANG IS BACK TOGETHER!!!! SEES IS BACK BABY!!!! cant wait for them to meet the new wildcard... it would be interesting to see the different reactions to Souji and everything going on in Inaba. also love makoto just relying on kotone to answer the door while he sleeps. hes just like me fr....

@epitomees said: The world turned mute. Half-lidded eyes were blinded by the harsh street lamps light, basking down and illuminating the tragedy playing out. The air smelled of musky, back-alley trash mixed together with the lingering scent of iron. He could still smell? He could still see? He wasn't dead yet? A cruel act to play upon someone wishing nothing but to finally rid themselves of the world. He achieved his goal in life, yet death taunted him. A long, drawn out scene wasn't the desirable situation for the brunette, but his saving grace came knowing the cause of his undoing protected the life of another. Someone still holding that spark of hope underneath the blanket of revenge. Maybe it meant he could attain some amount of peace in his last moments of life. Or did he truly deserve such a sweet blessing for all the pain he caused? All the sins committed? Milky eyes aimlessly searched around but kept returning to the source of light above him. Something obscured his blinded view. Distant voices grew closer yet Shinjiro couldn't make out any particular noise. His hearing had been lost. How long until his vision swept him into darkness? The figure above drew near, enough for the dying boy to make out more recognizable features. The shocked expression on his face, a singular grey hue wide in fear and disbelief, wavy locks of hair swaying in the October night air... Shinjiro knew that face. He briefly smiled. "...hey..." He coughed once, clearing his throat of the growing blood obscuring his windpipes. "...please...don't be sad...it's supposed to be like this..." Everything had been accomplished. There wasn't anything left for him to do now. He was satisfied knowing everyone could continue pushing forward on their own, without his help and guidance. They graduated from mere amateurs cluelessly speculating their purpose for fighting to full-fledged fighters ready to continue the battle. He wasn't needed anymore. The person's mouth began frantically moving, yet Shinjiro could not understand anymore. The loss of hearing meant another step closer to the eventual demise. His limp body shuffled off solid ground. Did they try picking him up? He'd be too heavy to carry back to the dorm now. It's a shame he couldn't hear his leader in those last seconds, but to know he'd be Shinjiro's last image before death swiftly took him away felt like a blessing. The real blessing. "...Makoto..." He used the last ounce of strength to lift his arm, index finger gently wiping a tear off his cheek but replaced with a smear of fresh blood. "...you're in charge now...take care of them..." His arm fell.
Unhappy October 4th | Always crying
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?!" Makoto's voice rang out through the empty, bloody streets of Iwatodai after their briefing about the significance of this particular date. October 4th was the day one of their members accidentally killed Amada's mother, causing him unbearable pain. It's possible that he was hiding it the entire time and only faked being happy to cooperate with him in order to plot his revenge.
He ran with the others as fast as his feet could carry him upon hearing that deafening gunshot, scaring everyone and everything away. Heavy pants left the Fool, but as soon as he stopped in his tracks, Shinjiro was already... lying down, bleeding out. "Senpai!!" He dashed towards him, eyes as wide as ever with fear, holding him close while he spoke. He could see the blood on his mouth and clothes... it was disgusting. Yet his words were more important right now.
"No, no, it's not supposed to be like this! What the hell are you saying?! We're going to save you! You can't just--" Just die right here and abandon us, he wanted to say, but the words wouldn't come out. His head turned to look at the group, Akihiko and Mitsuru were on their knees, begging him to stay alive while they figured out what to do, yet they were too shocked to even move from their spots surrounding him. Except that this was no time for thinking. They had to act fast.
"H-hey! Just hold on! Please!" He shook him gently, yet he was growing heavier and heavier as time ticked by. "Y-you can't die now...!" His hope was fading out, and a single tear rolled down his cheek at the realization that they were too late to save him.
His tear was wiped away and replaced with his blood. He cared. He cared so much that it killed him, even in his last moments, he wanted to make sure that Makoto would take care of them and do the right thing. Lead them on. Move on, move on... but how? He was dead in his arms. Dead. Dead. Dead.
"...why..." His fists curled up, and hot bitter tears fell on his body as he cried out and screamed his name into the air.
"SHINJIROOOOOO!!!"
Koromaru's deep, sorrowful howl followed and echoed, looking at this bloody full moon.
This was all his fault. How could he live with this for the rest of his life now, knowing that he was too late as a leader? As their protector...?

The Answer Fights Kaizo edition
So for The Answer DLC i think it'd be really really funny if they just cranked the difficulty up tenfold. Here's my 2am ideas for how to do that. Bit of a longer post but here's my ideas for how to turbo each character into a winnable but not enjoyable fight. Everyone gets their tier 2 characteristics and access to all of their theurgies but only once per fight each. They'd also have greatly improved HP and SP pools to make these fights last a while while stealing some bonuses from pieces of equipment. Arena Fight 1: Akihiko + Ken. Akihiko gets: Strike Amp/Elec Amp/Shock Boost/Akasha Arts/Maziodyne/Heat riser/Matarunda/God's hand. He gets his Buff Amp characteristic and starts out with an auto heat riser like the evil gloves. He gets to use both theurgies. First theurgy is electric spike, while the next is electric onslaught near the end of the fight. Ken gets: Mediarma/Kougaon/Light Amp/Vile Assault/Ziodyne/Tetrakarn/Makarakarn/Divine Grace. Overall this is meant to be the easiest of the fights. Ken is support packing a mean Kougaon and generally is meant to follow up akihiko. Sets up barriers if possible. Arena Fight 2: Junpei + Korumaru. Junpei Gets: Crit Amp/Apt Pupil/Vorpal Blade/God's Hand/Inferno/Marakukaja/High Counter/Regenerate 3
Korumaru gets: Debilitate/Dark Amp/Poison Boost/Ailment boost/Fire Amp/Eigaon/Virus breath/Maragidyne. The man is here to crit you to death and use blaze of life to heal once per fight. The dog is here to spam debilitate and poison at you. Starts off the fight with a power howling into vorpal blade.
Mitusuru + Yukari Mitsuru shows up with: Concentrate/Ailment Boost/Freeze boost/ Mabufudyne/Megidolaon/Nuero Slash/Marin Karin/Rakunda Yukari appears with: Multi-Target Boost/Wind Amp/Pierce Amp/Myriad arrows/Megidolaon/Magarudyne/Mediarahan/Amrita Shower The idea is that Mitsuru is fishing for status conditions on your party to capitalize on the +15% crit rate her secondary characteristic provides for the team. Yukari capitalizes off of this via myriad arrows each having a chance to crit. If Mitsuru can't do that for some reason she then starts to just hit you with concentrated megidoloan spam or the blizzard's edge theurgy. Yukari does a similar thing, but with a multi target boosted megidolaon every turn rather than charged ones.

10 characters/10 fandoms/10 tags
Tagged by : @icehearts & @aethergazing Tagging : Girl you think I know 10 people??
1. Bayonetta <- Bayonetta
I just love her, okay. She's gorgeous, she's confident, she's a witch that fights with her hair and can run 80 mph in 5in pumps. Jokes aside, I just love that her sexuality is a thing that she owns and has fun with-- and it's never used against her maliciously. (I also love her parallels to Dante my other fave). I could go on more but basically... she's truly one of a kind.
2. Akihiko Sanada <- Persona 3
My long-time beau. I RP'd him for about 8 years and met a lot of good people through that blog so I'm a little biased in how sentimental I am over him and Mitsuru. I'd add her too but I'm doing my best to be diverse here. Anyway, I just love him-- he fits all of my standards. He represents the Emperor arcana: the 'father' type. He's a control freak, he drags his guilt around by the ankle, is fiercely protective, has a little jealous streak, and is a hot-headed idiot (who is actually very smart)... And DON'T say it's because he has white hair.
3. Garnet <- Final Fantasy IX
The older I get, the more IX means to me. She has been my favorite since I was little. Not to get personal but I find her relatable: she grew up sheltered but was expected to do great things, and I am sympathetic that her mother (once kind and loving, even though we don't see it) was turned against her by forces she couldn't control. She deals with her grief more realistically than most FF heroines-- she gives into depression and self doubt but she never becomes bitter and that's something I want for myself.
4. Yuna <- Final Fantasy X
My grandma and I played all the FFs together, but the one that really made an impression was X. Yuna is my love: thematically, symbolically, and aesthetically. My sacrificial lamb who would burn herself to keep others warm. She takes her notoriety and her father's burden with grace and never shies from it even when she loses her faith in the system designed to throw her to the wolves. Also every line she has has such gravitas behind it... beautiful writing, beautiful voice acting. My forever girl.
5. Nier <- NieR
My doomed boy. I don't want to go into spoilers because Nier is more of a niche game, but I love him so much (and dadnier, too.) The moral quandary this game has... the morally grey protagonists... I love a character who loves with all his heart and would give anything for the people he loves. The side-story where it's implied he even ***** ******* for some coin was... man.
6. Kim <- Xenogears
Trying not to spoil here either it's just vague. IYKYK.
I thought about putting Elhaym here but I feel like the Zeboim era has more characterization than the main lol. Anyway. I love how he has become so cynical about the world around him, yet he is still willing to save and create life, only to find he suffers from the same affliction. As a scientist, he embodies the question: 'What makes a God?' and 'What is does it mean to be human?'. I love his story and I wish there was more.
7. Rubedo Yuriev <- Xenosaga
He's an idiot, he's a tragic figure, he's learned, he's traumatized, and his relationship with MOMO is uhhhhhh complicated. Honestly maybe I should have put Yuriev here because he's such an interesting villain. The URTVs are all squashed together for me like one big delicious smoothie anyway so.
Anyway Rubedo, your dad stared into The Abyss and it stared back and now he's insane and his fear of God and his own mortality was so strong he would use his own flesh and blood to run (and it was honestly really sexy of him) but what he never seems to grasp is that you can't run from what you can't see and sooner or later it will catch up.
8. Misato Katsuragi <- Neon Genesis Evangelion
Hi I love women with daddy issues.
I love her with Kaji. She looks for her father in him, while he's searching for his mother, but Misato, try as she may, she will never be a mother to anyone--not to Kaji, and certainly not to Shinji. There's a ton you can read into nge characters but there's something to be said about the trauma our parents force us (willing or unwillingly) to inherit, and how we hurt others as a result of that.
9. Dante <- Devil May Cry
He's so fucking stupid (affectionate). Dante Alighieri is rolling in his grave.
He's not only a boyloser but a boyfailure. He gets bullied by women and children and could probably suplex the earth. He loves his mom!!!
Anyway I love that he exudes a type of masculinity and machismo at first glance only to play the game and see he's a little fruity. I'm also a sucker for characters with duality themes that, when asked 'what makes us different?', the answer is because they chose to love-- which is not something you'd expect from a hack n slash game, inspired by resident evil in which you find new and exciting ways to kill things... yanno?
10. Kenzo Tenma <- Naoki Urasawa's Monster
I was running out of characters and was about to put Thancred or Squall but that's too many FFs so I tried to think of some anime that made an impression on me and Tenma came to me. We needed another Liam O'Brien rep here, clearly.
Anyway read/watch Monster if you haven't, it's an amazing mature series that barely feels like an anime.
Again, the themes of duality here-- who embraced life and who would rather take it? If Johan represents the inherent evil in the world, and man's propensity for it, then Tenma represents all that is good. He's just so tragic. The moment he finally stands up for himself he's punished for it, then when pushed to his limit, saves the life of a little boy only to be cursed for it. Even through everything he never gives up on people, and every life he touches is changed for the better. And that ending... oh man.
He's babygirl x100.
#tag game#thank you!!#xoxotext#i wrote this through several late nights so it's not very eloquent lmao

Info needs updated
Name:
Akihiko Kanda
Nicknames:
“Aki” “Old man” (Charlie, teasingly) “Sir Long-Ears” (Charlie, teasingly) “The demon who eats demons” “(The) Demon Cannibal” “Massacre Demon” “Traitor”
Ethnicity:
Japanese
Species:
Demon (Oni)
Age:
Chronological Age: 95
Physical Age: 35
Mental Age: 35
History:
Akihiko found himself in a grief-filled tale of horrific circumstances, forcibly transformed into a demon when Muzan sought a convenient distraction.
When he accidentally regained part of his memories- in which he watched himself kill and eat his wife and only son, along with several family members- the sheer weight of his rage and anguish inspired him to invoke Muzan’s curse and rip the cells from his body. This freed him, but left him permanently scarred. Unbeknownst to Akihiko, his torment was so overwhelmingly powerful that Muzan subconsciously felt it along with the curse's destruction through his shared link with his demon kin, and it even forced his eyes, although momentarily, to mist over.
In their shame and terror of the Incident, those left of the Kanda family condemned Akihiko entirely- not that he’s tried to return. Akihiko has accepted his disgrace with the utmost dignity. However his older brother, the only one to truly believe and to argue that Akihiko was under control of something- and would never have willingly harmed his family- was also shunned.
Akihiko’s estate stands abandoned by the family and is believed to be cursed.
Because Muzan’s cells changed his DNA, he can still regenerate at a (much) slower rate than other demons. Akihiko has vowed on battling Muzan if they ever meet again. In preparation for that, Akihiko gathered the broken blades of Demon Slayers who sought to kill him (though Akihiko never harmed them) and found a smith willing to melt them down. He then submerged the end of his tail and both arm-blades in the molten steel. This formed the Nichirin blades he wields on his body, though the process was so painful it left him delirious for days. It was an unexpected surprise for all involved when these newly formed blades revealed a striking change in color.
Muzan has a bounty for his head or death, and so Akihiko has lived in hiding on one of Japan’s unpopulated islands until he met and rescued Charlotte Ainsley.
Ainsley willingly (insisted) gifted Akihiko a small amount of her own blood through transfusions in return for protection and training, and eventually they both came to think of themselves as family. Because Akihiko has torn Muzan’s cells from his body and feeds off of other Oni and Yokai, he no longer feels the need to consume humans, but has no qualms killing any human that willingly works for Muzan- rare as they are.
When the Demon Slayer Corps eventually tracked Akihiko down, he fled- leaving an unwilling Charlotte Ainsley in their care until their reunion two years later.
Personality:
Stern, strict, though not without moments of humor. Tends to not speak shorthand- “do not” vs “don’t”. Akihiko carries himself with a swift grace that has been compared to a deity. This has been noted to contrast strongly with his fighting style- which is often rather brutish. He has a very strong sense of duty and honor and tries to make sure those around him uphold their own. He recognizes his faults, and regrets, and seeks to live better moving forward- though there are some wounds that can never heal. He can come off as overbearing and rigid but he means well. Frequently butts heads with Charlie about her behavior but loves her dearly as his own daughter and refers to her as his ‘gift from the sea.’ He and Charlie are well known for their snarky banter. He is creative in solving problems- even teaching Charlie how to wield a glaive without having much prior knowledge. He also came up with the idea of his oni mask, which is capable of filtering Charlies wisteria smoke (and therefore preventing his own poisoning) using charcoal, and a cloak he wore to hide from the sun he wishes to one day be able to walk freely in.
Akihiko has a unique relationship with his demonic abilities- while he despises them, he recognizes that it is now a part of who he is. He hates what he has become but will not give up on his sense of self or his journey to find redemption in any way possible.
Despite his hardships, he is a strong believer in the good in the world. He hopes for a day when everyone is free from suffering, and often tries to relieve the pain of others.
Due to his past, Akihiko holds a legendary hatred towards Muzan and his sympathizers.
Rank:
Akihiko holds no official ranking within the Demon Slayer Corps, but is an ally.
Demon Blood Style: Solar Burst
Fire erupts from cracks in his flesh, encircling his body and connecting back to other fractures in a way very reminiscent of a solar flare. Not only does this fire burn other demons, but it can also be released in powerful blasts. These cracks and the markings in his skin glow orange when activated, as does his eyes.
Aside from his blood art, Akihiko fights using his tail alongside the blade-like protrusions on his arms. He also utilizes his wings, in which the muscles on his back thicken with blood, enabling him to fly. This thickening also forces the scales on the edges of his wings to rise, turning them into serrated weapons that shred flesh with ease. This ability makes him an even more formidable opponent, as it gives him a total of 7 limbs and 5 blades.
He controls every inch of his battlefield, often leaving no time or chance for his opponent to move.
Though he feels it dishonorable, Akihiko attacks his demon prey from behind; using his wing-arms to crush their skulls and render them completely blind and deaf to who attacked them (and therefore preventing the demon from alerting Muzan to his position).
He is deceptively fast, and creative in the ways he uses his body in battle.
Hobbies:
Frequently writes poetry, but he burns the paper after he finishes, so nobody has ever read his work.
Avid reader. Can generally be found with a book or pamphlet of some type.
Enjoys creating paper lanterns and hanging them at various times of the year.
Can play several instruments, including the shamisen.
Is often found relaxing in hot springs. The water and minerals do wonders for his joints and scales.
Likes to bake treats from recipes he’s memorized. They’re the only things he can cook that he can guarantee will taste good, since he hasn’t eaten human food in over 60 years.
Plays Mahjong with his friends, and Charlie.
Special Skills
Including all skills that come with demonic transformation, Akihiko has garnered several personal abilities. Akihiko lacks the instinctual fear of fire that most Oni and Yokai are born with. - Fire Absorption Charlie Ainsley and Akihiko frequently tag-team strong opponents. One of their most dangerous moves involves Akihiko absorbing the fire from Charlie’s attacks into his own body and then releasing it in a terrifying blast that incinerates everything in front of him.
- FlightUnlike most of Muzan’s kin, Akihiko’s transformation and eventual evolution granted him the ability to fly using his massive wings. He dislikes this skill, and only flies when necessary.
- Night Vision
Akihiko is able to see perfectly as he prowls the darkness.
- Demonic Cannibal Having altered his body during the process of expelling Muzan’s cells, Akihiko is best known for his ability to devour and gain strength from other demons instead of humans.
- MedicUsed to healing Charlie’s battle-wounds, Akihiko has learned to patch humans fairly well and can even take care of some otherwise fatal injuries.
- IntuitionHis keen intuition allows him to discern most people's emotions or mental states, allowing him to better approach or convince them to accept his help or work with him. As such, he is able to actively avoid people who hate demons indiscriminately, like Shinobu and Sanemi, but is very understanding of those emotions.
- Alpinism
Akihiko’s powerful wing-arms and grip allow him to scale vertical cliffs that would otherwise be untraversable except by flight
His wing’s hands are strong enough to smash stone with ease, and he uses them to create footholds for Corps members to climb.
Other Trivia:
Though a talented poet, Akihiko cannot draw well
Dipping his tail and arm-blades into molten nichirin steel caused him so much pain that he was delirious for nearly a week
His arm-blades- which he lacked in his initial demonic turning and now has the ability to harm demons- may have been created by his body in an act of redemption. They are a means of striking back at the demon lord that drove him to murder his beloved family.
He considers the nichirin steel’s color change as a gift of the gods, though the color itself (Tyrian Purple) leaves a sour taste in his mouth
Shinobu scares the hell out of him, but he also understands her hatred towards demons. He tries his best not to hang around her any more than absolutely necessary.
Although he initially planned to hunt down Muzan as a suicide mission, when he realized how much he and Charlie needed each other, he abandoned the plan and chose to live to protect her as his own child
In his secluded home, he created a shrine in his family’s honor and visits it every day to remind him of the love he felt for his family, and to pray to the gods and those he killed for forgiveness.
Akihiko has been known to read Charlie’s favorite books to her to help her sleep at night, since she cannot read Japanese all that well. He denies it, but she has heard him reading in a soft, sing-song voice many times
Animals seem to be able to sense Akihiko’s kind heart (and Gyomei has even commented on it!) despite his terrifying appearance. He can often be seen with a swarm of bird or butterflies or forest animals
Akihiko gave Charlotte her shinobue flute, only to immediately confiscate it when she proceeded to tweet it as loud as she could
Quotes:
To Charlie: “Charlotte Ainsley, you are a blight upon the peace!” “Thank you.” “It was not a compliment!”
To Charlie: “You’ve failed.” “What? How?! The demon is dead!” “And so will you be, if you continue to underestimate your enemies!”
To Sanemi: “Do not mistake my patience for weakness, boy.”
To Akaza: “Get away from my daughter!”
To Kagaya and Co. : “My humanity has been stripped from my body, but that does not mean it has been stripped from my heart.”
To Kagaya and Co. : “I can never atone for what I’ve done. I cannot bring my family back from the dead, but I can make sure other fathers do not have to know the same loss.”
To Zenitsu: “Do you ever stop screeching? I am not going to hurt you!” “You’re so scary! My heart can’t take this anymore!” “I am just sitting here…?”
To Charlie: “Everyone has their burdens to bear. How you carry them is up to you.”
To Charlie: “It’s okay to be scared, but it is not to bow to that fear. Stand up.”
To Charlie: “You have the subtlety of a raging bull in a tea shop.”
To Inosuke: “Child, if you eat that bug, I will put you in a headlock. What are you? A wild beast?”
To Charlie: “Rengoku seems the type to treat you well, Charlie. Don’t you think so?” “Oh, Gods. We’re just friends!” “Is that so? Pity...” “...” “What about that Tomioka boy? You seem close.” “No! We are not doing this! Goodbye!”

Mitsuru makes the executive decision that venturing into Tartarus is off the table until midterms are finished, and no one seems inclined to protest. This evening’s conversation was productive and ultimately positive, but it’s clear that it also left the whole team feeling quite drained– and that’s on top of the cumulative exhaustion from the past two days. Some time dedicated entirely to rest is sorely needed before exams begin to demand their attention.
The juniors rise and drift towards the stairs more or less in unison. Iori stretches and yawns so hugely that she can hear his jaw pop from the other side of the lounge. Takeba squeezes Amada’s shoulder. Yamagishi smoothes down a section of his hair, which Amada endures with grace. Arisato makes an odd, complicated hand gesture at him, which he rolls his eyes at but returns. Aigis also mimics the gesture.
There is one last order of business for Mitsuru to address before she can retire.
She calls out to him before he can so much as leave the circle of couches where they’d all gathered. She’s thankful to note that he seems to have angled himself towards the stairs rather than the front door. Judging from the dark hollows under his eyes, Akihiko hasn't gotten much sleep over the past few days– most likely even less than any of the rest of them. She would very much like to hope that he was going to his room to rest.
He doesn’t turn to face her, like he already knows what she’s going to say and is too ashamed to face it.
It’s a statement more than a question. The answer is obvious anyway; he’s not wearing his uniform. It’s best to stage an intervention now before this gets out of hand.
She knows that Akihiko already knows this. When he doesn’t respond, Mitsuru presses onward.
His voice is so soft, but it feels like a steel blade being sunk into Mitsuru’s heart.
“I don’t want to abandon him. Not again.”
“Akihiko…you didn’t–”
“I did, though. I let him suffer alone for two years.”
She can’t let him think like this. Not only is it completely false, but she knows for a fact that Aragaki would not let this stand either.
“If that’s true, then I’m just as culpable,” she replies, voice stern. Mitsuru doesn’t particularly like playing dirty, but sometimes it’s necessary. If there’s one thing Aragaki taught her, it’s that. “Moreso, perhaps. You never stopped seeking him out, never stopped trying to reach him. I never even made an attempt.” Not that she’d thought he’d particularly want to see her.
Akihiko looks stricken. “Mitsuru, that’s not–”
“Fair? Perhaps not. But neither is doing this to yourself. Forsaking every other part of your life isn’t penance. And even if it was, there would be no amount of penance you could trade to wake him.”
Is she being too cold? Too detached? That glaze of ice might be the only thing holding her together– she isn’t sure what else she could offer that wouldn’t shatter it and leave her in pieces on the floor.
Akihiko slowly squeezes his eyes shut so tight that his lashes tremble with the effort. His mouth folds into a thin, wavering line. He breathes in, and out.
“You know what he’d have to say about you trying to tell anyone about penance,” he mutters eventually. Despite the words themselves, she can hear the concession in his tone. He’s already agreed to her terms.
“I do. You also know what he’d have to say about you exiling yourself to his bedside.”
Akihiko swallows. “Yeah,” he replies softly. “I do.”
Her feet have carried her within arm’s reach of him without her bidding, but it’s with deliberate intent that she reaches out and touches his shoulder. He spends a long moment simply looking at her hand, and she’s about to retreat when he lays his own over it and gives a brief, light squeeze. He feels warm even through his leather glove.
“You know he’s always hated to be hovered over, as well.”
He exhales one short breath. It’s probably the closest thing to a laugh she could expect to hear from him, at least for the moment. His grip on her hand tightens by the smallest degree.
“I’m scared, Mitsuru,” he says in a small voice. “I’m– I’m terrified. I don’t know what I’m going to do if he…”
Not once, in all the years she’s known him, has Mitsuru ever heard Akihiko openly admit to feeling afraid.
What can she say? What good would it do to offer rosy promises that everything will be alright, that Aragaki will surely recover, when both of them know full well that she doesn’t have the power to keep those promises? It would be an insult that neither of them deserve.
“…I am too,” she murmurs. If Akihiko is being so honest, it’s only fair that she does the same. “I’ve never lost someone like this before– someone who mattered to me. I was so young when my mother left us; I remember very little about her. I can hardly even recall her face without looking at the pictures in the command room. But Aragaki…”
Akihiko shakes his head viciously. “Don’t talk about him like he’s already gone,” he says, a jagged edge in his voice. He softens a little almost immediately, looking guilty for having snapped. “Please.”
Mitsuru bites her lip. “I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s okay. I’m sorry for– I know what you meant, I just–”
“I know,” she says. “Apology accepted.”
A soft whine comes from the direction of the stairs, and they turn to find Koromaru padding towards them, ears lowered and tail drooping. He comes right to Akihiko’s side and ducks under his free hand, then nudges upwards to fit the top of his head into Akihiko’s palm.
It’s the first time in days that Mitsuru has seen Akihiko smile, and she can’t help the one that tugs at the corners of her lips in response. He relinquishes her hand in order to kneel down and softly stroke along Koromaru’s head and neck. She isn’t quite sure what to do with her hand once it falls free of his shoulder.
“You’re worried about Shinji, huh boy?” Akihiko asks.
Koromaru chuffs in a way that seems uncountably affirming, and taps his paw on Akihiko’s chest. They don’t need Aigis to translate something like this. “Are you worried about me too?”
Koromaru croons solemnly and leans into Akihiko’s attention for several moments, then turns to look up at Mitsuru. She crouches and gently buries her fingers in the thick fur behind his ears, scratching lightly until Koromaru’s eyes drift closed and his tongue starts to loll.
When Akihiko rises again, he offers Mitsuru his hand to help her back to her feet. She gladly accepts it, and walks with him and Koromaru to the stairs. They do not speak again until they’re ready to part ways at the second-floor landing.
“I’ll see you at school tomorrow?” She says, hoping that she doesn’t sound scolding.
“I’ll see you then,” he affirms. She’s started up the next flight of stairs when he calls her again. “Mitsuru? When I go to the hospital after practice tomorrow– will you come with me?”
“Of course.” The answer is immediate. “I have student council duties as well. Why don’t we meet at the entrance once we’re both finished?”
Akihiko smiles again, the second time in less than ten minutes after more than three days without. “I appreciate it. Thank you, Mitsuru. And goodnight.”
“Good night, Akihiko.”

what about royalty!au Sanemi and Akihiko?👉👈
ohohohoh! sanekihiko, eh? they are actually such a special lil pairing for me, if only because we see so little of them in fits canon.
and i really wanna write them... TwT so here are some drabbles of them!!! interspersed with some hcs cos why not
- The first time Sanemi meets Higuchi Akihiko, he finds him pretty annoying.
That guy is always hanging around the Butterfly Estate, even when he isn't injured. Talk about not reading the room; he should just fuck off and let the Kochou sisters do their job. He should have better things to do.
Sanemi also hates the way Akihiko stands. It's a little odd - spine straight and shoulders sitting in a way that looks regal. He never fidgets with his hands, an almost well-trained stillness to him that makes him almost look like a painted doll. When he is introduced to Sanemi for the first time (by Masachika), there's a calculated tilt to Akihiko's lips as he bows and murmurs his pleasantries.
It's the little jerk Akihiko does before he bows a little lower that has Sanemi's lips curling into a sneer. Just because he has the kanji for prince in his name doesn't make him an actual prince.
"Shinazugawa-san, it's a pleasure to meet you," Akihiko says politely, before visibly dismissing him to shoot the shit with Masachika.
That fucking asshole.
- of course, their relationship eventually thaws. it was hard to hate the guy when sanemi heard the way akihiko talked about his little sisters. he still thought it was amazingly idiotic of him to run around being a demon slayer when his family was still living, but to each his own.
although sanemi would appreciate it if akihiko didn't make such googly eyes at kanae-san. seriously, his hero worship had to end some time. it was disgusting. (sanemi didn't know if he was more jealous of kanae-san or akihiko.)
- The first time Sanemi starts to suspect that prince isn't just a part of Akihiko's name is when they have a run-in with minor nobility.
If you ask Sanemi, the thought of even having minor nobility is ridiculous. The notion is so antiquated that it makes his stomach cramp. He can't stop himself from scowling, his expression growing darker when he finds Akihiko and his annoying little crow that he calls Kin at the front of the house that was attacked.
Well, Sanemi calls it a house, but it's really a mansion. The garden could fit the entirety of his childhood home, and he wouldn't even know what to do with all this space. There are more rooms than there are shoes that sit in the genkan.
Akihiko is nonplussed, which just irritates Sanemi further. He enters the mansion with enviable grace, and the distraught daughter who is worrying over her little brother. He speaks to the minor noble with elegance and poise, his words carefully chosen and his every movement deliberate. Sanemi feels clunky and rough, like a stray mutt that was dragged in from an alleyway.
"Who are you?" Sanemi asks.
He doesn't mean anything by it. He finds himself surprised at the solemn look on Akihiko's face. To call it serious would be a mistake, because it's more than that. There is an entire lifetime that is left unspoken within those blue eyes that gaze at him.
"I'm no one important." Akihiko's laugh is hollow and doesn't reach his eyes. "Honestly, Sanemi, it's just manners."
Was it really just manners, when he had known exactly how to refer to the minor noble?
Sanemi doubts so. Then again, a prince wouldn't be a Demon Slayer. That's just absurd.
- masachika and kanae are the only people akihiko tells about his status as minor royalty. it's nothing, all things considered. akihiko has abdicated from his title, so he isn't any better than any other commoner. he finds himself more used to being called higuchi than o-akihiko-sama.
at his core, akihiko is just a simple boy. he isn't a prince at all. (even if he is.)
- what's the use of a prince who cannot even protect his younger sisters?
- "Why Akihiko?" Sanemi wonders aloud.
Akihiko pauses in his swings, tilting his head at Sanemi curiously. Sweat glistens on his bare chest, sliding down pale skin and dripping to the dirt. Sanemi carefully doesn't let his gaze wander, eyes fixed to Akihiko's face as emotions flicker across his features.
Three became two. Masachika rots in the ground and Sanemi is a Hashira. Akihiko is still Akihiko.
Akihiko laughs, resting the blunt edge of his bokken on his shoulder. "You're asking me? I didn't exactly choose my name, you know."
Sanemi scowls. "Just asking."
A shadow passes over Akihiko's face. His dark hair - as black as ink - is plastered to the back of his neck. It's getting long; he'll be asking Kanae-san or Sanemi himself to help him trim it.
"A name's just a name," Akihiko insists. "Don't think too much about it."
What's kuge mean? Sanemi wants to ask. He heard Kanae-san tease Akihiko about it the other day, but all he knew was that Akihiko had sputtered like a child and hurriedly shushed her. He doesn't know they the thought of Akihiko having secrets with Kanae-san makes him burn on the inside.
"What does your name mean?" Akihiko asks, flicking a sweaty lock of hair out of his eyes.
Sanemi shrugs. "Does it matter?"
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet."
"Huh? You making fun of me?"
"No." Akihiko lobs his bokken at Sanemi's head half-heartedly. Sanemi snatches it out of the air, rising to his full height. "It just means that even if you called a rose something else, it would still be a rose. It would still smell the same, and still be just as beautiful."
Sanemi clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth, inexplicably irritated. "Never heard that before. It sounds like bullshit."
"Maa... others might call you Shinazugawa-sama, but you're still a grumpy old bastard, Sanemi."
The bokken whistles through the air. Akihiko let's out a yelp as the flat of the wooden plate cracks against his ass. He jumps a foot in the air, then whirls around to kick Sanemi's side.
Sanemi is more than ready for it. He traps Akihiko's leg against his side and takes a step forward to unbalance him. Of course, Akihiko being a Breath of Water user means he doesn't fall over, although he does hook an arm around Sanemi's neck so he doesn't land on his ass.
Belatedly, Sanemi realises that they're far too close like this. He hadn't thought this through.
"I don't get it," Sanemi says instead of a scathing retort.
This close, he can see Akihiko's unblemished skin, the curl of his eyelashes. Red paints Akihiko's cheeks like streaks of paint, and his blue eyes are wide.
Sanemi clarifies, "About the thing you said earlier."
It was in another language. He didn't know Akihiko spoke anything other than Japanese.
He realises there isn't a lot he knows about Akihiko. He knows the Breath of Water user has five sisters and two loving parents. He knows he came from a village somewhere in the northern part of Tokyo. He knows that Akihiko rarely scowls when met with civilians, but doesn't hold back his expressions when amongst Kisatsutai members - or at least he hadn't with Sanemi and Masachika. He knows Akihiko grieves stoically, but cries openly.
That's just about all he knows. He doesn't know what Akihiko did before he became a Demon Slayer, why he became a Demon Slayer when his family is still alive. He doesn't even know what kanji makes up Akihiko's name.
Akihiko chuckles. It's quiet and slow, and Sanemi can feel it in the depths of his chest.
"It means," murmurs Akihiko, "that whether your name is Sanemi or not, you're still you. You'd still be beautiful. Just like a rose."
The tension in the air is palpable. Sanemi can barely breathe because of it.
This is the moment he should let go. Akihiko should stumble away with an irate complaint - then he'll storm off while flipping Sanemi off.
Instead, Akihiko looks at him like he's something precious. Something beautiful and fragile and untouchable.
His arm around Sanemi's neck loosens, but he still rests his calloused palm against his sensitive nape.
"I shouldn't," Akihiko breathes.
His gaze darts downwards. Sanemi feels hot all over when Akihiko licks his lips; he's staring at Sanemi's lips.
"Pussy," Sanemi snarls quietly.
The heat in his chest won't go away.
"What's in a name?" Akihiko counters, then surges forward to press his lips to Sanemi's.
Sanemi's grip on Akihiko's leg tightens.
- in the end, it doesn't matter if akihiko is nobility, royalty or commoner. kuge or not, he still finds himself ensnared in douma's grasp, and he still falls to his younger sister's blade.
- sanemi finds another person to grieve. another thing to fuel his anger against onis. they take and take - and they always take from him.
- "What's in a name?" Sanemi says to Akihiko's younger sister, years later.
Higuchi Ayame pauses. Her blue eyes are almost the exact copy of Akihiko's, although the corners of them are harsher. She had always glared much more than Akihiko ever did.
"That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet," Ayame completes slowly. "Akihiko-nii's favourite quote."
"Quote?"
"From Shakespeare. He was an English poet in the sixteenth century. Or seventeenth. I always forget."
Sanemi knows now that he and Akihiko would have never worked out. He knows more about kuge and buke than he did as a sixteen-year-old. The way Akihiko held himself - the way Ayame holds herself now - makes so much sense.
Not just nobility, no.
Royalty.
Akihiko was royalty, and he still recited poetry to him. Still kissed him like Sanemi was precious and important.
His old scars had never faded, but this particular unseen scar ached fiercer today.
Sanemi runs an absentminded hand through his hair. "Do kuge ever marry commoners?"
Ayame blinks. It's such an innocent expression that the mirage of Akihiko shatters in an instant.
She isn't Akihiko. Akihiko is gone. Permanently this time.
"No," she answers honestly, "but Akihiko-nii wasn't kuge when he joined the Kisatsutai. It's just a title anyway."
Her words and her actions don't match up. If the rumours are to be believed, then that Kamado brat is buke. That makes him more Ayame's equal than Sanemi had ever been to Akihiko.
And still they dance around each other like two nitwits.
"It's just a title," Sanemi echoes.
He tells himself it isn't for her benefit. (He knows he's lying.)

[████████ 100%] — @astralmysteria !
𖤣.𖥧.𖡼.⚘ RECORD #01
[a/n] hey mysteria! i’m sorry this took so long, i was really busy for a long time, but here it is! i hope you enjoy.
Upright this represents femininity, beauty, nature, and nurturing. Reversed it represents creative block and dependence on others.
𖤣.𖥧.𖡼.⚘ YOUR ARCANA IS… EMPRESS!
𑁍 From your described personality traits, I was very torn between TEMPERANCE and EMPRESS, for your arcana. But, after some long and hard musing, I must give you empress.
𑁍 The empress is a card that is assigned to many characters in the series, one of which is Haru, which you and her embody a lot of the traits it pertains, whether upright or reversed.
𑁍 Perfectionism and people pleasing (dependence on external) tends to lend aid to a creative block, and not only that, you told me that you were trying to get back into writing.
𑁍 You’re motherly, kind, empathetic, and I can tell by your personality you may either come off strong at times. Many of your traits indeed feel like what an empress would have, and you take pride in the things you do have and nurture and take care of it.
…loading match…
⚘ YUSUKE KITAGAWA
𑁍 Oh this match was perfect.
𑁍 First of all, your love languages. Yusuke is someone who is in need of gifts, in need of being spoiled. When you appear in his life to stay— he is very pleasantly surprised. Not only is he a man of gratitude and returning acts of affection so you would not feel unloved or perhaps even taken advantage of for your kindness, he is filled with anticipation for every gift, and surprisingly, wait a long time to use them if if can be used. He probably has a section in his place dedicated specifically to you, and treats you like a queen has graced the mortal realm. You seem hard to impress— so he will do his upmost in order to win your heart!
𑁍 He’s attracted to your kindness, but specifically, it had to be paired with all your other traits to make it right.
𑁍 so, so many nicknames. this man is going to shower you in the most sweetest of them. maybe it is a simple but tender “mys” uttered in his breath, or perhaps a “love?” — he tends to stick to the more formal sounding ones because of how he is, and yet, there will be times where he drops some funny ones jokingly, and that beckons not embarrassment or humiliation but rather good-hearted fun.
𑁍 You are a muse for him; with the vibes of your being and your singing. Yes, you are a beautiful woman, but he is more focused on how your characteristics enhances your attractiveness. He finds you talking whether it be to him or yourself very endearing, and he’s definitely going to draw whilst you sing. The way you inspire feelings out of him is a gratifying experience, its a passion. The two of you would be able to encourage and help each other out of creative blocks— but also, yusuke also has problems with taking care of himself. the two of you have problems taking care of yourselves, but now you have each other to take care of the other so extremely well. the rest of the cast is very soft and happy at this, hoping that this translates into treating yourselves better.
𑁍 yusuke is not loud, or inconsiderate in terms of jokes. he is a sweet lover, and he is perfect for you. the two of you would be super cute, i think. soft, with romantic tension in the air. i think you would exchange some sassy remarks, but it is a very healing process to be around each other.
as for runner ups: ryuji was one, and akihiko from P3 kept popping up in my mind. i think akihiko may be your one true love actually.
I AM THOU, THOU ART I… COME FORTH!
𑁍 TITANIA! 𑁍
The Queen of the Fairies, Titania is a character from Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. She is the wife of Oberon. Because of her grand power and charisma, people consider her the Queen of the Fairies. While she is rather delicate and graceful in appearance, her power and knowledge over magic easily match those of Oberon, the king of Fairies.
The description above fits you well, and Titania has manifested as a result! The reason why I chose her for you is because of the character studies I read for her over the ages, excluding the sections regarding extra-martial affairs she may have participated in. The compassion she holds for the changeling she wants to adopt is one of motherly. She is principled, standing up to her husband.
Not only that, I think her movesets fits you.
𖤣.𖥧.𖡼.⚘ HOW IS SHE AWAKENED?
you are on a battlefield. your blood is singing through your veins, and you have just stepped out like a lamb to the slaughter.
how one awakens is a hard question, because it involves getting pushed to the brink by someone who is somewhat close to you in any manner, hostile or not. in your case, it would be a betrayal of a friend. you had introduced them to almost everyone you had known because you trusted her— and in a fit of rage, they had cursed out everyone they knew, you, and all you adored.
unable to take this slander towards your loved ones and aggrieved in your heart, you opened your resolve, and a mask appeared on your face.
“I am thou, and thou art I,—”
“I am Titania. I will become your mask. Now, let us enjoy a midsummer night's dream.”
𖤣. for weapon— you would have a RAPIER [The Sword of Sinai] or a BOW [SOURCE YUMI]
𖥧. for a gun— you would have a RAY GUN [SIRIUS]
𖡼. for outfits— school uniform would be like makoto’s with the jacket, and regular outfits would be like yukari and rise’s.

A regular day
(Written for @p3akishinjiweek day 4: Everybody Lives/Shinjiro Lives AU | Role Swap AU)
Canon divergence, Role swap, Hurt/Comfort, Repressed feelings, Past relationship
Shinji goes to find Akihiko with a mission: today, they're going to have some fun together, whether he wants it or not.
(This particular brand of role swap has been insipired by this art, this one, and this one.
Basically, Miki doesn't die in the fire and is recruited by SEES with Akihiko and Shinjiro, but Akihiko's persona goes berserk and kills her.)
(AO3 link)
(Fic under the cut)
Finding Akihiko has become Shinjiro’s specialty. He’s become so good at it and even if you blindfolded him, his legs would still take him to the place where he’s currently hiding.
Well, it’s also true that Aki doesn’t run from him anymore…
… But that doesn’t mean he’s always happy to see him.
That seems to be the case that day, because as soon as he hears Shinjiro’s steps – he could recognize their sound anywhere – he turns towards him, a frown on his face.
All the words die in Shinjiro’s mouth, and for a moment, all they do is to stare at each other, while the air becomes tenser and tenser by the second.
It’s Akihiko the one who breaks the silence, and he does so with a sigh. “Shinji, whatever you have to say, I don’t have time for it.”
He doesn’t seem particularly busy, but Shinjiro decides against pointing it out. He’s not here to start a fight, not today.
“What if I told you I wanted to go to the arcade?”
Akihiko visibly recoils from the surprise. Shinjiro has to use every ounce of his willpower in order not to laugh.
“To the arcade?! Why?” Akihiko asks, still in shock.
“Do I need a reason?” Shinjiro shrugs, but from the way Aki raises an eyebrow at him, it’s obvious that he’s still unconvinced.
“C’mon, how many times have we gone there without a reason?”
“That was before,” Akihiko points out, carefully choosing his words. That’s true, after Miki’s death, they’ve stopped hanging out like they used to – and not because Shinjiro didn’t want to – but still…
“Doesn’t mean we can’t do it again,” he says, stretching a hand towards the other. “So, are you coming or not?”
To tell the truth, he doesn’t really have a plan; he just got up, that day, deciding that he and Aki were going to spend some quality time together, just like they used to do before everything went to shit.
It’s being a quite stressful period for Shinjiro, and he can only imagine how worse it is for Aki, so why not have some fun? If you ask him, he thinks they deserve it.
Still, he’s not so naïve to believe that Akihiko won’t try to argue, so you can imagine his relief when he actually takes his hand without complaining.
“Alright, why not?”
They really end up going to the arcade, and they manage to have a good time too, despite their rustiness.
Shinjiro’s pretty sure a group of kids is making fun of them for their abysmal scores, but he doesn’t care. He still makes sure not to tell Akihiko about it – admitting he hasn’t noticed them – just in case he’d start a fight. Causing a scene and getting kicked out isn’t something they need – that would sour the mood incredibly.
A spark of their previous playful rivalry reignites, as they try to best each other’s score.
In the end, Akihiko’s the winner, but that’s only because Shinjiro’s distracted by the fact that he’s grinning. He’s grinning, for fuck’s sake! How long has it been since even the shadow of a smile had graced those lips?
It’s a far cry from his usual sour expression; it makes him look younger – more like his age – and more carefree. Shinjiro wishes he’d always smile like that.
“Wow, Shinji, you suck,” Akihiko teases him, but he doesn’t mind. Anything to make him have some fun.
His “plan” consisted in having a nice day at the arcade and then going back to the dorm – he has so much to do – but since it looks like Aki doesn’t have any intentions to leave his side, he decides that, whatever he needed to do, he can do it later.
Aki takes precedence – always has.
They could go to Hagakure – another one of their usual hangout spots – but they always go there. They should change it up.
“I bet you can’t handle Wild Duck Burger,” Akihiko challenges him, aware of Shinjiro’s widely-known and often voiced distaste for the fast food chain – honestly, any sensible person who cares about nutritional values instead of stuffing your face full with garbage would agree with him.
Aki knows it, that’s why he said it. Shinjiro has half a mind of telling him no, but you know what?
“And I bet you that I can.”
Challenge fucking accepted.
He tries the damned burger, all while Akihiko watches him intently – is he expecting him to throw up, or combust into flames as soon as he takes the first bite? – and he even manages to finish it. It wasn’t as evil as he thought it would be, but he still doesn’t want to know what the hell they’ve put in it – it mustn’t be anything good.
“Wow, you actually did it.” Why does Aki sound so surprised?!
Shinjiro scoffs, crossing his arms, offended. “I fight Shadows, for fuck’s sake. Why wouldn’t I?”
Akihiko doesn’t say anything, he just keeps looking at him like the fact that he’s an absolute powerhouse in battle – which is true, by the way – counts for nothing here. Little shit.
“Fuck off.”
Akihiko laughs.
After lunch, they find their way back to Paulownia Mall, as Shinjiro thinks about something else they could be doing… Oh, wait! How long has it been since he’s last fed her? With everything that has been going on lately, he completely forgot.
Well, he’s found out what he wants to do now – better take care of it immediately, before he forgets again.
“Hey Aki, wait here a moment,” he says, already making his way up to the pharmacy.
Akihiko, of course, noticing where he’s heading towards, follows him.
“Why are you going there?” he asks. “Do you need medicine?”
“Ugh, didn’t I tell you to wait?”
“I’m serious.”
He does look serious, dead serious in fact. Is the idiot convinced he’s sick, or that he has some sort of secret injury he needs to take care of?
Shinjiro didn’t really want to let him know about… well, this, but he supposes he doesn’t have any choice now.
“I just need… cat food.” The last part is barely whispered.
Akihiko narrows his eyes.
“Cat food? Don’t you have a dog?” he asks, confused.
“Yeah, yeah, we have a dog too,” Shinjiro replies. Thinking about it, he should get something nice for Koro-chan too, before he makes it back to the dorm. “But this is different.”
He doesn’t say anything else, not that he needs to: from the amused way Akihiko is looking at him, he must’ve put two and two together already, even without him confirming it for him.
“You’re such a softie,” he comments, in fact. It’s clearly meant as an insult, one of the many he throws his way; too bad that Shinjiro’s gotten used to them, so they don’t faze him anymore – most of the time, at least.
“Shut up,” he says, with no real heat in his voice though.
Shinjiro purchases the cat food without any hitch, if you exclude Akihiko’s presence, but there’s little he can do about that.
“Can you wait for me here?” he asks again, once they arrive at Port Island Station.
It’s not that he doesn’t want him there, but there’s a reason why he wants to be alone to feed the cat he’s befriended: the problem with this little kitty, is that she’s extremely untrusting of strangers – must be her survival instincts kicking in – which means that, with Akihiko with him, she might not show up, even if she’s come to trust Shinjiro.
“No way, I want to see this,” Akihiko replies, the stubborn idiot.
Shinjiro sighs. “Fine, don’t complain to me when she doesn’t show up, though.”
They walk towards the back alley.
Much to Shinjiro’s surprise, she makes her presence known immediately, and loudly too, from the way she meows as she approaches them.
“Hello there, little one,” Shinjiro greets her, crouching to the ground and stretching a hand for her to smell. “Long time no see.”
He opens the food can and lets the cat eat it. He had bought a small bowl to leave there so that she wouldn’t eat from the ground, but some assholes stole it; he should buy another one, it’s not like he doesn’t have the money for it…
Akihiko crouches beside him, watching the cat intently. As soon as she’s finished her food, she turns her attention to him, rubbing herself against his knee while purring. Huh.
She’s acting way too familiar with him, which is weird if this is the first time she meets him. That can only mean one thing…
“Aki, you sure you’ve never seen this cat before?”
“W-What do you mean?” Akihiko asks, face getting redder by the second. He’s so easy to read, sometimes.
Shinjiro can’t help but to smirk. “Nothing, nothing at all… It’s just weird that she’s taken such a shine to you. She never does it for people she doesn’t know.”
“Lucky me then, huh?” Akihiko deadpans, but he still stretches a hand towards the cat, giving her light scratches behind her ears.
“Some shitheads thought it would be a fun pastime to throw rocks at her. I just made them reconsider…” he admits, then.
He’s omitted the violent part, Shinjiro’s sure of it, though for once he can’t find it in himself to reprimand him.
“Assholes,” he comments, in fact, to which Akihiko nods. For once, they’re in agreement.
“I did think she was too well-fed for being a stray. I should’ve imagined you were involved,” Akihiko says, then. “Such a softie indeed…”
Shinjiro shoves him with his shoulder, only to be shoved in return, which prompts him to do it again, this time with more force, until it escalates, because of course it does – neither of them are known for backing out from anything, after all.
They end up on the ground, roughhousing for a bit, making the cat escape, probably in search for a safe place. The poor thing must’ve thought they were being serious, but they’re playing around more than anything else: they aren’t being as aggressive as usual, and they’re not trying to hurt each other too much. Compared to other fights they’ve had, this one’s pretty tame.
“Okay, okay, enough!” Shinjiro exclaims, laughing, after Akihiko pins him to the ground. There’s a playful sparkle in his eyes that makes his heart melt – why can’t he always be like this?
“You surrender?” he asks, still not letting Shinjiro go.
He rolls his eyes. “Yeah, sure, I surrender. Now get off before someone calls the cops on us.”
It’s something that has, unfortunately, happened already, during one of their brawls, and that’s an experience neither of them wants to repeat. Even just being reminded of it is enough to convince Akihiko to let him go; he rolls to the side, and then he gets up, dusting off his pants.
Shinjiro would’ve followed him, too bad he’s too busy staring at him – “like a creep,” Takeba would say.
He can’t believe that, for once, everything’s been going according to plan: he just wanted to spend a normal day with Akihiko, and spending a normal day they did, with nothing bad happening.
“Earth to Shinji! Are you okay? I haven’t hit you that hard.”
When Shinjiro’s eyes find their focus again, he sees Akihiko leaning towards him, a confused look on his face. He shakes his head.
“Yeah, I’m fine, don’t worry…”
He begins pushing himself up when Akihiko extends a hand to him, with the clear intent of helping him up.
Shinjiro doesn’t think twice before grabbing it.
“So, what no—"
Before he can finish, Akihiko throws himself at him.
At first, knowing him, Shinjiro expects a fight – he never knows when to quit, huh? – but he’s stunned when he realizes that what he’s doing is hugging him.
It’s so tight that he can hardly breathe, but he wouldn’t change it for anything in the world: it’s been ages since they’ve hugged.
“Thank you… Shinji,” Akihiko mutters, before burying his face against Shinjiro’s shoulder.
For a moment, he’s afraid he’ll start crying, but Aki has stopped doing that a long time ago; he kind of wishes he would do it again, instead of keeping everything inside without letting anyone in, not even him.
He doesn’t know what to do; he wants to hold him close, he wants to caress his hair, he wants to kiss him, just like they used to, but he’s afraid of being too much: what if Aki can’t handle it? What if he runs away? Shinjiro won’t forgive himself if that happens.
Eventually, he closes his arms around his frame anyway. Oh, how he’s missed this, and he mustn’t be the only one, because as soon as feels him returning the hug, Akihiko’s grip on him gets even tighter.
Why can’t he just come back to them? Why does he insist on being alone, when it’s obvious that he doesn’t want to be? Why does he keep punishing himself?
Shinjiro wants to grab him by the shoulders and shake him until he understands that hurting himself like this won’t make up for Miki’s death, but he knows that doing so, now, would only make matters worse.
They already had this discussion, right after Aki had left SEES; he found him at what, with time, has become his usual alley, all battered and bruised, and tried to get him to come back, at least for a medical check-up.
“Do you think Miki would want to see you like this?!” he tried, hoping that bringing up his sister would get him to take better care of himself. Damn him and his mouth, he shouldn’t have said anything, because all he managed to accomplish was to make him angrier.
“She wouldn’t want to be dead either!” he had shouted, ready to vent all his anger with his fists… only to stop once he had realized who he was about to attack.
Shinjiro had tried to reach out for him, but Akihiko had managed to push him and run away. He had never run away from anything, until that day.
After that, it took Shinjiro a week before he was able to find him again, and it was then that they stroke an accord: Shinjiro would never mention Miki again, and Akihiko was never going to pull a disappearing act like that ever again – Shinjiro had been so afraid something bad had happened to him.
He knows he should keep his mouth shut, and yet he can’t help but to mutter:
“I miss you.”
Akihiko remains silent, which only cements the idea that he shouldn’t have said anything in the first place. Shinjiro’s about to apologize, when he speaks:
“Me too… Shinji, me too, really, but…”
He pulls away from the embrace. Shinjiro already misses the closeness.
“I can’t come back, not yet.”
That “not yet” catches Shinjiro’s attention. That’s not something Aki’s ever said, not until now at least. Does it mean that he might join them again in the future? He wants to ask, but he doesn’t want to push his luck further.
“Can we still see each other in the meantime?” he settles with, instead. He doesn’t think he’d be able to handle not hanging out with him until he decides he’s ready for SEES again.
There’s a shadow of a smile on Akihiko’s face. “Never said we couldn’t.”
Oh thank fuck.
“Not that it would matter either way, with your stubborn ass,” Akihiko continues, then, and… is he teasing him, the little shit?!
“As if you’re any better!” Shinjiro defends himself, because really, Aki’s even worse than him. Everybody else would agree on this, no doubt.
As much as he’d love to argue with Akihiko more, he’s noticed that it’s gotten quite late.
“… I should leave.”
Not that he wants to, but sooner or later he has to go back to the dorm. That’s a shame, though: he’s been making so much progress today with Aki!
Speaking of him, at least he’s not taking it personally, which makes Shinjiro feel a little less guilty about leaving him alone.
“Yeah, don’t worry,” he says, in fact. “Unlike your brats, I can handle being by myself just fine.”
Shinjiro would tell him not to speak of them like that… if only it wasn’t true. Really, sometimes he feels like a father, and he just recently turned eighteen!
“What are you going to do now?” he can’t help but to ask.
Akihiko rolls his eyes. “Nothing dangerous, if that’s what you’re worried about. I’ll just hang around and see where the rest of the day brings me.”
It doesn’t exactly instill confidence in Shinji, but it’s better than him actively looking for a fight. He is good at surviving on his own, he has to give him that much – even though he wouldn’t need to if he just came back.
“Ok, so… See ya?”
Akihiko chuckles, shaking his head.
“Sure, see ya, Shinji.”
Shinjiro begins walking away, only to stop and turn his head to get one last look at Aki. He’s still smiling.
For a moment, it’s like the view in front of his eyes and the image of a younger Aki – the one that Shinjiro holds dearly in his memory – overlap. It’s hard to distinguish the two.
It happens all so suddenly that it scares him, before he gets a grip on himself. Now it’s not the time to reminisce, even though seeing him like this makes him very happy.
He loves him, he loves him so much it hurts, and he wants to protect him, to keep him from the rest of this fucking world, since it’s so hellbent on hurting him.
He wants… and yet he knows that, in the grand scheme of things, what he wants doesn’t matter.
If he can’t get Akihiko to join SEES back – for now – at least he can make sure he doesn’t get in too much trouble, and be there for him when he needs it, which is exactly what he’s been doing, and what he’ll keep doing.
Aki doesn’t think there’s a happy ending for him, so he has to do the believing for the both of them.
It will get better, and he will fight for it, everything else be damned.
No matter how hard it will be, they will have their happy ending.
