This Week in BL - I’m largely pleased with BL & pissed with Kpop

April 2023 Wk 3

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Step By Step (Thai Tues WeTV & Gaga) ep 1 of 10 (MDL says 12, but I think it’s just 10) - Abused intern trope is a go! I wasn’t sure I would like the lead, but he’s totally adorable. Although (I gotta say it) who tf eats a croissant with a knife & fork? Also.. the main couple has good chemistry! Hallyfuckingluya! In fact, the quality of the acting and sound etc is generally superior to a normal pulp. It’s good! This is a good show? How exciting! 

Our Skyy 2 (PondPhuwin) eps 1-2 - Honestly, I was nervous to watch this but I liked it a lot! Doomed soulmates + paranormal time travel to fix the past. I’m happy for the outfits and the dancing (if not the singing). It’s not a bad premise and it’s nice to see GMMTV lean into its high production values for a change. I could’ve watched this as an actually full length BL. Gotta say, Puhwin’s English is so good and v west coast USA accent (international school kiddo got skillz). Meanwhile, loved seeing MarcPuwin again. My Gear & Your Gown disappointing us wasn't their fault. *Hilarious that Marc is side couple in 3 BLs airing simultaneously, that’s a record! (Waves at Marc X1.) I’ll be rating each of these installments separately, as I did the first time around. This one gets an 8/10 from me.

Bed Friend (Sat YT, GaGa & iQIYI uncut) ep 10fin - A very Check Out the series ending. Disastrous sun glasses. King being shy was adorable. Nevertheless I do think the final 2 eps felt a little tagged on and superfluous excess. Ultimately? This just wasn’t as good as the first 5 episodes set us up to hope for. Series review below.  

Pastsenger (Thai Weds Gaga) ep 7 of 12 eps - Cute confession and boyfriends phase. The bit with brothers’ boyfriends serving each other food was kinda charming. Could do without blushing maiden trope. But hey ho. (Waves at Marc X2.) 

A Boss and a Babe (Fri YouTube) ep 8 of 12 - Cute phi/nong convo and teasing, but this is largely boring. I do like that the conflict is all about business loyalty, cubical friendships, and coworker gossip. This is as it should be in an office romance. But I wish the characters were consistent.  

Tin Tam Jai (Tues Gaga & iQIYI) ep 9 of 12 - The boyfriends phase. I just know with this show that the moment it ends I’m going to entirely forget about it. It’s boring.  

Chains of Heart (Sat iQIYI) ep 10fin - What a waste. Seriously don’t bother. It seems to end unhappily, but maybe not, but also who tf cares? 3/10 Series review below, for my sins. (Waves at Marc X3.) 

Future (Thai Sun YouTube & Gaga) ep 5fin - It was Songkran so no new ep until tomorrow. May your New Year be blessed. 

The Promise (Thai Weds YT & WeTV) ep 7 of 10 - the put YT on a week delay off WeTV, so I will watch it next week. I have WeTV but I prefer YT. 

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Unintentional Love Story (Korea Thurs iQIYI) 9-10 fin - Awe a crying kiss. My fav! This one was fine. Not a v good kiss but KBL has to bow to form on occasion. The sides didn’t get much of a resolution. (Although we know why.) It was a solid ending. Series review below. 

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - this ep was a little slow for me, oh I know, that’s what this show is doing, but yeah. Still it’s soft and sweet and wonderful. Why are you not watching it? Go. Now. 

The Eighth Sense (Korea Weds Viki) eps 7-8 of 10 - Honestly? I checked out a bit this installment. Possibly because JaeWon checked out as well. I mean, I understand what the narrative is doing, portraying JW coping (badly) with loss and the complex knot of guilt, love, fear, lust, and shame. But I don’t really feel drawn into a romance when the main characters are separated for most of an hour. I do like JiHyun’s personality shift and aggressive stance on renewing the relationship. That’s fun to watch. And I do love his besties. Of course ep 8 ends with major heartbreak and pain. I expected nothing less from this show. Gotta admit I’m a little mad tho, I wanted it to EXCEED my expectations. 

My Story (Pinoy Sat YouTube) ep 2 of 10 - I don’t like one of the couples (not side dishes, this is a 50/50 split) but I weirdly like Sky’s new arc, even if he’s with someone new. 

Naked Dinner AKA Zenra Meshi (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 2 of 12 - it’s just so odd. I can’t believe THIS is the JBl we get 12 eps of. This one?  Japan, must you? (How many times a year do I type that phrase?)

Finished this Week

Unintentional Love Story - A boy who just lost his job due to faked corruption charges accidentally discovers his ex-boss’s favorite artist, now a recluse. His ex-manager offers him his job back if he can convince the artist to rejoin society. Instead, they fall in love. Gongchan (maknae of B1A4) carried this show (which I don’t expect from the idol element). He was luminous with extraordinarily expressive eyes. That said, he had weak chemistry with his co-lead. But everything else was quietly queerly KBL pristine and beautifully executed, even the conflict. I’m not sure on rewatchability for me, and it didn’t whip me into a verbal frenzy the way some KBLs do but it’s still getting a solid 9/10 

Bed Friend - Office frienamies transition a flaming hot one night stand into a f-buddy relationship, that is essentially built on a puppy/cat dynamic (and kinks into it at one point). Our puppy is loyal, smitten, and protective with endlessly worshipful eyes, while our cat is snarky, prickly, and deeply damaged (ALL THE TRIGGERS). NetJames give lovely high-heat with excellent chemistry and tuned-in performances of surprising depth, unfortunately the story ultimately failed them. Had the show had the strength of its convictions and kept to a tighter, darker, harsher 8 eps it would have been the first high heat to earn 10/10 from me, but once they fussed with it, it dropped to a solid 8/10. Could have been great but they overworked it. Still if high heat is your thing, this one will not let you down. Full review here.

Chains of Heart - This was a terrible show, unbelievably confusing, badly subbed, with characters behaving illogically, nonsensically, and heartlessly. What’s worse? The leads had fantastic chemsitry, were willing to do high heat (and do it well) and were pretty! So they squandered a decent cast and some actual production money on a shoddy scrip and terrible directing - what a waste. Seriously, don’t bother. It maybe ends unhappily, maybe not, but you should neither care nor bother to find out. 3/10 

It’s Airing But ...

Love Syndrome (Thai Sat WeTV) stopped at ep 2 of 12 - I’m just not into any aspect of it (except Lee Long Shi and I can watch him in Tin Tem Jai) - saving to binge if the end is solid.

Venus in the Sky (Sat YouTube) pilot/tester?) 0 of 10 - not entirely sure what’s up with this one distribution-wise, but the pilot was classic university-set pulp. I hope it happens because the leads are cute with good chemsitry and I thought it was fun. However, this pilot holds together as its own little short too.

Make a Wish (Thai Weds ?) stars Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) in a medical-fantasy. About a doctor who sees ghosts and a deity who resides in a Bodhi tree that earns merits whenever he fulfills a wish, based on a y-novel by Sammon (Manner of Death, Triage). Same as above.

Stormy Honeymoon (Vietnam) - 3rd in this series and the ULTIMATE in domesticity. New side couple is cute too. But I’m kinda over the leads at this point. (see comments)

In Case You Missed It

BL Express has a post on upcoming GL. I don’t track this, but they do. 

I decided to hold off and binge Cafe in Love and Destiny Seeker. So I’ll be watching and reporting back after I’ve collected all the eps. I realized that I miss binging BL. That said I have been siting on To Sir, With Love forever. Not sure why I am so reluctant to dive into that one.

Peak Time pretty much ended exactly as expected, which was also exactly how it started. Our BL boy Karem got booted for the grave sin of being a, ya know, 2nd gen idol dude bro. But it was the superior survival show. BLK made me cry, so did MASC for that matter. We have discussed this before, I am a sap. I look forward to seeing where Vanner go next. 

Boy’s Planet was ultimately disappointing. I watched some predictions about who Mnet actually wanted to win, and they were mostly correct. With the delightful upset of China scooping the #1 spot. (Delightful bc I am a chaos money who lives for politics fucking with soft power and watching China give the jaundice eye to S Korea for half a decade bc they Hallyued their way into winning the culture war using Kpop, and NOW China is doing what we all knew they would which is... infiltrate. Ultimately? Boy’s Planet was nothing more than an exercise in manipulative editing, they just accidentally manipulated the global vote into Zhang Hao winning. Not to slag off that baby boy’s serious cuteness - I genuinely thought he was great, actually. Frankly, I emerged cackling and mostly just v. disappointed in Pentagon fans. I think they deserve to lose their group for how little they supported Hui. Let’s be truthful? They are likely losing their group or Hui wouldn’t have been on the damn show in the first place. (Cube seems highly disinterested and their 7 year contracts are uppity up.) This is neither the first nor the most extreme version of me being disappointed by Kpop fans. There’s a reason I don’t participate in that fandom. 

In more relevant news to THIS fandom, JiWoong made it into ZB1, which means we will NOT see him or the Kissable Lips pair back on our screens anytime soon (if ever).

Jay had just undergone a mental breakdown that caused a storm that set fire to half the forest surrounding the city. Luckily rain followed and put it out jay was numb Cole had hugged him the entire night he wanted his family back but one was apparently separated from his body which just sounded like death anthour didn't rember anything why did nya have to forget everything that's why he was gratefull that atleast Coles here physically present and not dead or broken or having forgot everything if Cole wasn't here or wyldfrye sora and arin he'd have killed someone already. No correction, everyone. Jay walked over to the kitchen, grabbing a bowl of cerial pouring one for each of the kids as they walked over, jay knew Cole well unf that he'd just eat whatever geo he didn't know what he liked Spitz and Fritz were good moral support. The morning was silent for the most part. A couple talks between arin sora and wyldfrye but still so quiet.

"OK, so what are we doing today?" Sora questioned. Jay turned to face her.

"OK, traing and matches," Jay answered the portraits of his friends, feeling suffocating, but it was ok he was ok he hoped.

"Realy you ok jay your being way to quite sensi motor mouth" Cole stated consern clear in hid vioce jay looked towards the portraits silently hoping one of the ninja will jump out of it but atlast that would never hapen.

"I'm ok, just shaken Cole, I'll be fine" Jay mumbled going to put his gi on Flash, a blue tornado than in a near instant jay was dressed his blue and white gi's golden acsents glistening in the sun light. Jay stretched and walked out. Cole had concern written all over his face which only grew when he looked at jays ceral which looked untouched.

"Geo stay here I need to talk to jay" geo nodded in response as Cole followed jay.

"Cole I'm fine realy" Jay stated as Cole pushed him more

"You didn't eat. You need to eat, jay" Jay avoided eye contact but Cole persisted "Jay brother best friend you need to eat I understand you've been through hell but please just eat and promise me you won't go back into isolation like last time."

Jay looked to Cole tears in his eyes "I promise cole" Cole took Jay put him over his shoulder and walked away back to the room placing him at the table instructing him to eat he did reluctantly.

"Match's begin now every competitor present," robi began jay eyes locked with nyas, her hate plastered over her face. Jay looked back to robi. "So the first match to happen is a classic 1v1 first competitor, the one with flaming heart wyldfrye." Wyldfrye looked to jay jay, put a hand on her shoulder.

"Doesn't matter if you win just try your best" Jay reassured. Wyldfrye nodding. Heading towards the battle ground.

"Vs the burning flame the fire of hope kai smith," jays eyes widding at the name Cole eyes looking upon the battlefield, silent hope radiating off him. As a figure in a red and black gi with wolf detailing emerged a katana in his hands. And jay felt himself want to cry than he noticed other figures one in cyan nya anthour in white and a shorter one in green and horns. Jays eyes darted back to wyldfryes expression.

"Doesn't matter wyldfrye I think i know who to get him back but first win" is what jay shouted seeing wyldfryes arms stop tensing as she ran at him letting the fire rain as kai avoided it shouting fire back the two were at a stand still both equal in power until kai pulled out that dreaded mask wyldfrye couldn't let kai shatter his soul or thier may be hell for her. She looked around at her options either let kai shatter his soul and lose and have that to show for it or she could forfeit no a tactile retreat that was until she turned to see.

Jay no yep jay was holding nya in a meancing position hood down gi had been made tattered and darker eyes glowing yellow and blue a sword drawn to her neck uncomfortably close.

"Kai,"he cried, catching the red ninjas attionion as he turned to look at jay eyes growing wide as he saw his other team mates struck down with out much of a struggle by the fact nun of them had thier weapons drawn he'd had gotten a surprise attack.

"What huh how?" kai cried, confused in his vioce.

" It does not matters," ras cried "focus on the fight"

"Realy kai u can do anything but use that mask or I cut her throught" Jay stated fear creaking into his vioce he didn't like threating nya or cuasong kai distress but if he knew one thing about kai is that his sister was always his priority.

"Don't listen to him focus on the mission" nya cried struggling in jays arms jay almost collapsing into sobs as she cried he hated this.

"Wait, stop, no attacking outside of matches," robi called.

"Sorry kid I have my reasons for this just let me finish ok" Jay asked robi looking worried "OK here's the deal you want to date my student u let me do this ok" Jay sneared as wyldfrye turned angry. Robi flew away. "Now were was I kai I will hurt your sister if you don't forfit ok hot head" Jay sneared in the most villans vioce he could muster. Kais eyes burned with fury he hopes and got his awnser kais body bursting with flames as he ran at jay with fury and rage.

"You don't hurt my sister jay. You made a promise to never do th-" kai stopped as he realised he crossed a line. Robi, knowing he, is disqualified, and ras's silent rage herds across the lands. Jay smiled as he saw recognition flash into kais eyes and then sorrow. "Jay" he states collapsing as Cole dropped down. Running to kai as the fire was taken from his friend and given to wyldfrye jay dropped nya hearing a thud and silently apologising. Running to kais unconscious form lifting him up with Cole.

Taking his friend back to the room. He was watching kai sleep relief falling over him that if they could save kai than surely they can save nya. Jay walked over to the screen clicking it. Waiting for a moment than "Jay any news" pixal asked jay looked for a moment at the wierd red and orange marks on pixal

" Yes but what happened to your face" Jay questioned pixal stood still for a minute

"I was cooking for spitz and Fritz, and apparently, my cooking is not as good as Coles"

"OK, so oh ohhh, you had a food fight," Jay giggled, calling over Geo and Cole as they looked at pixals face they couldn't contain thier laughter

"It was more like a food asualt," she corrected, calling spitz and frotz over from reading comic books and talking the snake and formling smilies widding as they noticed geo and Cole saying hi and talking with Cole and geo for a while until pixal told them the adults needed to talk. "So what was the news jay"

"Well kai also forgot everything" Cole stated calmly causing pixal to nearly short circuit at the calmness

"That is bad so nya and kai don't rember anything" Jay smiled much to pixals confusion.

"Just nya at the moment, kai remberd at least something from his past after I jogged it a little," Jay stated vioce turning guilty after the last word. Geo placed a hand on his shoulder, knowing jay probably felt like he'd actually harmed nya physically instead of just an empty threat.

"So kais back that's go-" pixals attion turned to something off screen "Hey wait don't touch that jay will kill me if you break it"

"Pixal everything ok" Cole questioned

"Yes fine talk soon" she stated Turing off the call.

Jay turned to face kai again until kai jolted awake crying about nadkan much to jays shock.

Cheesecake but make it DEPRESSING AS FUCK AND MAKE YOU CRY ABOUT TIM AGAIN (AKA have my personal headcanon about WHY Tim likes cheesecake that has nothing to do with canon at all)

The whole "Tim likes cheesecake" thing started off as a fatphobic cheap shot at Tim Sutton (possibly, although I'm fairly certain he debunked that claim) and then became a meme and now the MH community is trying to distance themselves from it But... What if we didn't? What if we fixed it instead? And yes, we CAN fix it. Lets take a look at my headcanon, shall we?

First of all, eating an entire cheesecake in one sitting is such... a Tim Wright thing to do. No, no, no. Stick with me. Look at Tim. Do you fucking think that man has eaten an actual meal in the past 72 hours? Please, he's probably had like six cups of coffee, an apple he grabbed on the way out the door, a bag of peanuts he found in Jay's car, and half of Jay's hamburger and the rest of his fries which Jay forced him to eat out of guilt because "Tim, c'mon. Have you eaten at all today?"

Not to mention, he's running off of exactly 3.5 hours of sleep at any given time, and all the 5 hour energies and cups of horrible gas station coffee in the world ain't keeping him conscious. And you know that man hasn't consumed more than 500 calories PERIOD over the past 3 days.

I'd have to channel my inner MatPat and reverse engineer Tim's height and age to figure out his weight and thus his needed caloric intake per day (which I did, assuming he's in his early 20s and knowing his height is 5'7, the average weight would be around 155 pounds. Knowing that he's both a heavy smoker and an alcoholic, both factors that are known to contribute to body weight, not to mention his stockier build I would put him closer to 180 pounds, giving us a basal metabolic rate of 1,760 calories. Considering the fact that he probably has to run away from various threats such as the Operator and Alex, and also probably has to run after Jay to stop him from doing stupid shit, I'd say he gets exercise 4-5 times a week, bringing his total daily calories needed up to 2,580), but it's safe to say that however many calories he needs? He ain't fucking getting them. Not to mention, he probably hasn't slept either. He's running on less than empty. So he eats an entire cheesecake in one sitting while relaxing on the hood of Jay's car. He needs food in his stomach to keep him going, and he needs the temporary sugar boost to keep him awake for at least another hour and a half. Why cheesecake? Here comes headcanon #2: Tim associates cheesecake with freedom. Tim spent most of his life in a mental hospital. Meaning he spent most of his life eating hospital food. As someone who briefly lived in a hospital (not a mental one, but still a hospital) I can tell you first hand that the food there (at least in the US) is SHITTY. Like, only slightly better than cafeteria food. Imagine eating cafeteria food for three meals a day, every day. The most sweets you get are probably a cookie or maybe Jell-O. Maybe pumpkin pie during the holidays or a cupcake on your birthday. That's it. You sure as HELL aren't getting cheesecake, unless someone buys it for you- and lets be honest. Who's out here buying little Tim cheesecake in the mental hospital? No one. So Tim sees commercials for cheesecake on TV. Probably Philadelphia Cream Cheese or Cheesecake Factory commercials. Doesn't matter. The point is, it's not the food- it's the freedom. The family. The being somewhere other than a fucking hospital. THAT is what Tim really wants. It's all he ever wanted. So when he finally gets the hell out of the hospital and gets a job and a place to live, maybe he's going to try cheesecake, right? That boy's *never* had it in his life. And so it suddenly becomes his comfort food. He always associated it with freedom, and now that he is free, the association becomes even stronger. And he eats an entire cheesecake. Why? Because he can. He may be constantly on the run, he may be afraid for his life, but he's still free. He's not trapped in the mental hospital, alone with no one who cares about him. He's free. He's an adult. He can do whatever he wants. He can eat an entire cheesecake if he feels like it- and no one's going to stop him. Not the Operator, not ToTheArk, not Alex- NO ONE. I will try to publish requests as soon as possible! I've luckily got a decent bit of free time, but I am also chronically ill and have a life outside of Tumblr! why do you type in all lower case? easier to read, easier to type.

didn't you used to go by [x]? i won't say, usually. i have posted about some of it before, but i'm not gonna trudge anything back up. personal name changes are part of my gender journey, url changes are for a reason / because i can.

i saw you used to do paid commissions! will you open those again? maybe. it really depends on how i can take payment and whether or not i feel safe doing that. accessible payment methods risk me being outed, and in the most unsafe state in the united states for trans* folk... i would rather not risk that if i can avoid it.

do you take writing / fic requests that aren't paid? sure! i don't mind writing things or creating things for people free of charge, as long as you actually... respect it. don't steal my shit, don't claim you wrote it, etc etc. i know i can't stop you, but i can (and will) shit talk you and drag you through the mud if i catch you doing it. i know my worth. don't try to play me because you're an insecure fuck.

why do you sometimes write trans*? isn't the asterisk redundant/problematic/etc? afaik, no. it's a habit i picked up while writing about trans folk in an academic context where my audience was primarily cis. it literally means nothing more than showcasing that trans is an umbrella term that includes various labels (e.g., transgender, transsexual, transmasc, transfem, etc etc.). if someone has made it problematic, or used it in discourse/exclusionary circles, i am not aware of that. and if that is enough to make you think i'm an exclusionist... why are you even here? genuinely.

can you tag posts with queer as "q-slur" or something similar? no. queer is my identity. don't like it, don't stick around.

why are some types of campaigns tagged as "important" and others tagged as "bump!"? well, context is dependent. but right now trying to help victims of genocide takes precedent. of course, i encourage everyone to donate to any of the campaigns i share regardless of content, as everyone deserves their basic needs filled.

“heeseung,” the called boy hears and he turns around, seeing his best friend’s girlfriend with puffy red eyes, tears streaming down her cheeks. months ago, heeseung’s heart would break and he wouldn’t hesitate to fix ae-cha’s by giving his. ae-cha hugs him and heeseung freezes, not knowing what to do, feeling awkward. “jay and i fought.”

“i know,” heeseung says, hugging her back, patting her back awkwardly. fuck, months ago, he wouldn’t hesitate to have her in his arms, but now, it just feels so wrong. “look, ae-cha, uh,” he says, pulling away as he looks at her. “jay’s here, let me just—”

“no, please,” she cries, sniffling. “i can’t look at him, i was horrible to him.”

“look, he’s looking for you. that’s why we’re here. we just separated because he thought he saw you somewhere.” heeseung says. “he just wants to find you. he was rushing to find you, he didn’t even get to wear his glasses, i’m pretty sure he’s not wearing any contacts right now.”

“heeseung, what if he hates me?” ae-cha says and heeseung shakes his head, placing his hands on her shoulders.

“he doesn’t, okay?” heeseung says. “look, just talk to him. you can’t avoid any fights in a relationship. this is one of the many fights you will be having and that’s fine, as long as you two still make sense, okay?”

“okay.” she mumbles and heeseung nods, grabbing his phone as he calls jay, but no answer. “you’re right, i’m being silly.” she softly says and heeseung sighs. “thank you, hee.”

she leans in, hugging heeseung as he hugs back, patting her back. “you’ll be fine,” he says. “i’ll stay with you until jay…” heeseung trails off, seeing a familiar pair of eyes that had saved him from his heartbreak a lot of times. “shit,” he curses, not failing to catch the way your tears pool in your eyes. “i’ll call jay, i have to go.” heeseung says, pulling away as he doesn’t bother to look at ae-cha when you take a step back, turning around and walking away from him.

heeseung runs, chasing you as you rush your walking. “y/n, flower,” he calls when he’s finally near you. he holds your wrist and you only shake your head, pulling your wrist from his hand as you avoid his eyes, but he sees your eyes have let the tears go, the streetlight shining against your wet cheeks. “no, no, no. let me explain, flower.”

you bit your lip down, letting out a whimper as you suppress your sobs down. “no, please, flower. it’s a misunderstanding, let me explain.” he says, putting his arm around your waist as he pulls you against his chest, kissing your hairline. you give up, shaking your head. “look, jay and ae-cha had a fight—”

“so, you took your chance to pounce on her, okay.” you say, pushing him away and heeseung’s doe eyes lightly widen as he shakes his head. “heeseung, please, just—” you let out a sob, your hand coming up to cover your mouth as you close your eyes.

“no,” heeseung softly says. “y/n, flower, listen to me. i don’t like her anymore. it’s you. it’s you or no one, flower. please, let me just explain.”

“four years,” you say, looking up at him. “four fucking years, heeseung. that’s how long you’ve been in love with her. and while you were sulking and crying over her, i was at the side, admiring you from afar. she was the reason why we became close in the first place, heeseung. because of your feelings for her, you opened up to me. who do you always go to when you cry over her? me. i never said anything and you didn’t even notice that it hurt. heeseung, you literally passed your pain to me. and then what? a few months of us being friends, you suddenly like me, not her?”

“that’s unfair,” heeseung says. “i did my best to prove to you that i love you and not her. just listen to me, please—”

“that’s all i ever did, heeseung.” you say, wiping your tears off your cheeks. “don’t call me or whatever, okay?”

“flower, you’re just mad, please. let’s cool down and—” heeseung’s voice cracks as he tries to resist his threatening tears coming out of his eyes. “flower, i understand, i’m sorry, but please, just listen—”

“i’m tired of believing your sweet words.” you say and heeseung looks at you. “i… i just don’t—”

“you don’t trust me?” heeseung says and you look at him.

“i did.” you say. did, past tense. “it was the biggest mistake.” 

heeseung’s heart breaks all over again. he presses his lips into a thin line, looking at you. he takes in a deep breath, “then what the hell are we doing here if you don’t trust me?” heeseung says and you look away, shrugging. “why are we even trying this if you don’t trust me, y/n?”

y/n. not flower.

you look up, seeing him looking at you as one tear escapes heeseung’s eye. you wanted to apologize, let him explain, take him in your arms and for you to talk about things like you two always do. but maybe… this was better. instead of facing the problem of being away from him, maybe this is better.

so, without saying anything, you take a step back, turning around your heels as you walk away from him. heeseung, this time doesn’t chase you, he just watches you walk away.

OMG They delivered a great start to Dick’s arc. Like I got worried for a second that after Rocket’s plush arc, Dick’s might suffer as well. In a way I’m happy that it started, but like I cared more about what was happening in this episode than I did in Rocket’s arc.

For starters, Flying Dick Grayson (aka Dan Danger) is back. I’m just in love with the idea that Dick goes back to being a Flying Grayson every now and then. I live for more acrobat acrobat Dick Grayson, even though we see him as an acrobat Nightwing. I just need more performances from Dick is that too much to ask?

Also I was screaming for a net. I know he doesn’t need one, but you know

Trauma

Anyways, I love the whole enforcing not only the acrobat part of Dick’s character but also the detective. I feel like we don’t really get to see enough of him being a detective anymore (from any of the bats really) so I’m glad to see it here.

I love how they sat next to Clark and was like “Superman” without looking at him. Like they could have just been like “hey Clark got a minute?” But they had to be dramatic I love it!

This reminds me he’s kinda like Bart now.

I love how that’s how they got the entire group back together again. It worked seamlessly.

Kaldur took a needed month off (I think he should have taken more but sometimes having too much time off is bad too).

“Wyynde loves the look” made me laugh so hard

Also is Admistad wearing a Red Robin outfit or is it just me? Did Tim become Red Robin?

When I was watching them all get together, I was thinking don’t get Miss Martian involved please, and I’m glad they didn’t. Do you know how much trauma she would be in if she heard there might be a chance her husband is alive? Like I know he is alive but like she’s still mourning him and I feel like that’s something you tell someone when your absolutely sure.

Barbara mentioned as an amazing hacker! Love it!

Also the Bart Allen is missing alert. I’m like amazed that they do that. I’ve never thought about it but do you know how useful that could be. I wonder what other times that has been used.

I’m also crying because Jay had to call in to find his speedster teen

I’m crying think about when he decided to say he was missing. How long did he wait? Did he think he was with the outsiders for a bit? Did he have yo call the outsiders to find out he wasn’t with them?

But back to Bart’s time traveling adventures

His thought to go run and grab a collar and put it around Lor Zod’s neck with a determined look on his face like this isn’t the jokester he pretends to be. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this but Bart is almost like a completely different person than the one he acts. I’ve noticed this back in season 2 and I’m kinda glad that they remembered it because I don’t really see this type of character a lot.

When Lor Zod put a collar around Bart’s neck, I screamed. The trauma he faced when he was younger and all the effort he did to change the future only to then be placed back into the same position he was in made me want to yell at the unfairness of it.

I really hope we get to see some memories/backstory/trauma of Bart’s future. Like I know it’s probably not important but I would like to see more of him.

Also Lor Zod is basically abusing Bio ship. He needs to just get his ass kicked by someone already.

Maybe Miss Martian

The fight between the OG team and Klarion was pretty cool.

Also baby Teekl is so cute!!!

Klarion’s opening speech about contacting him only to stop when he realized who it was got me laughing hard. Does he do that every time? How many times does Teekl interrupt him when he does it? Are people intimidated by it? When I saw it I was like yeah ok Klarion you think you’re scary.

Magic School bus? I wonder who’s going to be Miss Frizzle and who’s going to be Arnold?

Phantom girl finally wakes up. I wonder how she is going to get them out without getting caught.

Also I’m getting the vibe that Ursa is going to be more of a threat to them than Dru and I don’t know how to explain it.

Also Conner thinks he killed Clark? Poor Conner. He’s suffering and he doesn’t remember everything.

Does he remember who M’gann is?!?

Also House of Luther,

I almost died.

But they mentioned Kara!

Indirectly but still! She’s in the universe!

At the end when they found signs of life in Kaizer Thrall, at first I thought it was Kara because she was mentioned and also they’re doing Kryptonians.

But then they said human and male and 11 and I was like who could that possibly be? We were all hoping for Wally to return this season but that can’t be him unless he de-aged but that’s highly unlikely even with the powers of a speedster because it’s kinda odd to do that.

I absolutely have no idea who this could be.

April 2023 Wk 2

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Bed Friend (Sat YT, GaGa & iQIYI uncut) ep 9 of 10 - My biggest concern is that Uea left his sister in that house with a known abuser. Meanwhile, the office teasing was cute. I’m thinking that the final two episodes were mostly added to deal with the backstory resolution of the family drama, and to add a sappy proposal thing. I’m not necessarily mad about it, but I do think there’s probably would’ve been a better tighter story at 8 episodes. 

Future (Thai Sun YouTube & Gaga) ep 4 of 5 - There is nothing to this show but softness. Also we visited my old exclamation to the BL gods: please don’t make them act crying. It’s so difficult to watch. That said I still love this  stupid show.

Pastsenger (Thai Weds Gaga) 6 of 12 eps - Wow. Sides kissing. Brave high school kid! Also mains. Wait. What is happening? 

A Boss and a Babe (Fri YouTube) ep 7 of 12 - Having a rich boyfriend sure is clutch. Boss is smart to ingratiate himself with his boyfriend’s gaming team. Also there is no doubt that they are complete and total boyfriends, the most boyfriendly boyfriends ever. 

Tin Tam Jai (Tues Gaga & iQIYI) ep 8 of 12 - I’m pretty much fast forwarding anything to do with the main couple I just find them so boring. Although my beloved side dishes have disappeared. So I guess I am watching it for the faen fatal? 

Chains of Heart (Sat iQIYI) ep 9 of 10 - Whatever. Good sex scene tho. Bummer about the, ya know, story. 

The Promise (Thai Weds YT) ep 6 of 10 - ON HIATUS UNTIL APRIL 19.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - It’s just the best. It’s so sweet. Yutaka’s little smile because the kid likes him and wants to cook with him is probably the warmest most endearing thing ever to happen in JBL. 

Unintentional Love Story (Korea Thurs iQIYI) 9-10 fin - sorry I won’t have a chance to watch this until early next week but I promise to post about it! 

The Eighth Sense (Korea Weds Viki) eps 5-6 of 10 - Hyung mistakes made by constantly acting EXACTLY like bf in front of their friends is very cute. I don’t have much to say a this time. Narrative and characterization is unfolding as expected, staying tense as we get little nuggets of backstory. Lines will be crossed, one way or another. The trot part was VERY funny. Also we got us a on screen rep of a fairygodBLer. These two kiss well but all I can see when they do is how much pain is incoming. I don’t know what was up with the ending but we do have 4 more to go, so I don’t think we are actually in an H3:MODC situation. 

My Story (Pinoy Sat YouTube) - It’s a bit frenetic, camp, crazy, and outrageous, but I’m not mad about any of that because it’s classic Pinoy BL. So I think I’ll keep watching. This is the same characters as My Day. Which means they did break up the main couple from that series. So if that’s going to traumatize you, be aware. There are a lot of storylines going on. And I’m just not sure BL from the Philippines can handle this much at once, they may have bitten of more BL than they can chew. 

Naked Dinner AKA Zenra Meshi (Japan Fri Gaga) - Japan is so weird. I mean that in a good way (but also sometimes in a bad way). Also sometimes just weird. Also embarrassing and cringe. I’m going to watch it but I don’t like it very much. 

It’s Airing But ...

Love Syndrome (Thai Sat WeTV) stopped at ep 2 of 12 - I’m just not into any aspect of it (except Lee Long Shi and I can watch him in Tin Tem Jai) - saving to binge if the end is solid.

Venus in the Sky (Sat YouTube) pilot/tester?) 0 of 10 - not entirely sure what’s up with this one distribution-wise, but the pilot was cute, classic university-set pulp. I hope it happens because the leads are cute with good chemsitry and I thought it was fun. However, it totally holds together as it’s own little short story too.

Make a Wish (Thai Weds ?) from WaGa Creative staring Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) in a medical-fantasy. About a doctor who sees ghosts and a deity who resides in a Bodhi tree that earns merits whenever he fulfills a wish based on a y-novel by Sammon (Manner of Death, Triage). Same as above.
