number one. koh ae ri from the eighth sense

she is for real one of my favourite secondary characters of all time. she is so funny and i absolutely love the way she teases her friends, bullying IS a love language yes. i also love how confident and slightly over-the-top she is, she can really stand up for herself and other people as well, which is an admirable quality. also, i am side-eyeing her and her bestie. 🫵🏳️‍🌈⁉️ ykwim

number two. ink from bad buddy

we all know what i think about bad buddy but that doesn't mean there aren't any characters in that series who i still cherish, and ink is definitely one of them! i feel like everything in the world has already been said about her and i don't even have to explain myself. we all love her.

number three. hashimoto mio from kieta hatsukoi

she is an icon, she is a legend, etc. etc. she is so so sweet and wonderful but can also hit you across the face so hard that you fly away if you deserve it. i don't even think that's like dramatic effect exaggeration, she will kick your ass if you're acting like a fucking idiot and i love that about her.

number four. choi yu na from semantic error

true bicon of our generation. greatest fashion sense in the world. so very tired of your bullshit (and that's absolutely fair). a great friend. *bows fifty times in respect*

number five. sunny from our dating sim

she doesn't get too much screen time but i love everything about what we see of her. she is very no-nonsense and deadpan, but also very emotionally intelligent and compassionate (she literally helps lee wan figure out why he started drawing and why it's still important to him, like she literally changes his life with one small conversation). what a legend.

number one. brienne of tarth from game of thrones (tv show)

ok yeah yeah horrible tv show. ANYWAY. i am fucking obsessed with brienne. she is SO!!!! KDGJDFJGDFJGKDF. sorry. what am i even supposed to say. she is a warrior both metaphorically and literally. she is the most knight-coded character of all time. no man can compare to her in knightly qualities. she is noble, she is loyal, she is fair. she is fucking iconic.

number two. clementine from the walking dead games (video game series)

i grew up with clem, actually. i was just a couple of years older than her when i first watched a playthrough of twdg. i suppose we have to make some space for the fact that she is a protagonist in 2.5/4 games, meaning that every player kind of decides what kind of a person she is on their own. but i think overall, no matter what choices you make, she always remains a very strong and resilient person. despite everything she's lost, she doesn't lose her humanity and manages to take great care of her found family (and her adopted younger brother, shout out to our murder baby aj <3). i am very proud of her, almost like she is a literal person who grew up in front of my eyes.

number three. lae'zel from baldur's gate 3 (video game)

ok, now this one was hard. not because i don't love lae'zel so much, but because there is an insanely long list of female characters from bg3 that i absolutely adore, and choosing just one was hard. in lae'zel's place, there could have been shadowheart or karlach or jaheira or either isobel or aylin from everyone's favourite divine lesbian duo or nine-fingers or or or. i can go on forever. but i picked lae'zel for this post. so, first thing you should know about her is that she can step on you and you will be thanking her for it if she does. she is just 21 years old, yet she goes through a completely worldview-shattering experience and comes out the other side not just alive, but with her head held high. her quote "what good this heart of stone, for it to be shattered?" absolutely kills me every time. i'm gonna stop here, but i could go on forever actually yes.

number four. josephine montilyet from dragon age inquisition (video game)

very similar situation with the dragon age games and the amount of characters i could choose. morrigan, isabela, and sera in particular were very strong contenders for this space. but i ended up choosing josie for this post. she is a very sweet and romantic character. she used to be a spy (and she actually got into it because she thought it sounded romantic - she's whimsical like that), but then she ended up killing someone she knew and that experience changed her forever. she is now a very successful diplomat, determined to deal with world's problems through any means other than violence. she is very open-minded, understanding, and just an absolutely lovely person overall.

number five. anne elliot from persuasion by jane austen (novel)

choosing a favourite jane austen herione is like choosing a favourite child, but here we are. the photos are from two different adaptations, and i appreciate both of them in different ways, though i don't think we have a 10/10 adaptation of persuasion just yet. anyway, anne is naturally a rather timid and people-pleasing person, which i think a lot of us can relate to, but throughout the book she really finds her own voice and stands her ground, while simultaneously not having to completely change her personality, which i really appreciate. not everyone can be sarcastic or witty or strong-willed and that's ok. she also definitely shines as the undeniably smartest austen herione, as she figures out all the secrets, decidedly does not trust clearly untrustworthy albeit charming gentlemen, and is overall incredibly sensible, which means it's very easy to read her inner dialogue, because you never find yourself sighing at how blind she is at something that's happening. she sees everything. being inside her head is a great time.

Thank you for explaining. I was more thinking about the "Mr." part of "Mr. Crowley" he dislikes so much that he keeps correcting people. But yeah, I can see the issue he also has with the "Crowley" part of it. Maybe that is why he was fine going by "AJ" for so long until AJ became something he didn't like either making him feel trapped. When reading, the whole Mr. Phale thing kind of made me confused and sort of uncomfortable, like when you see something you don't like and makes you grunt and twitch (kudos to your writing for making me feel strong emotions! <3). After thinking a bit, I realized, this has to do with my own hung ups about my name, which go in the completely opposite direction. It drives me up the wall when someone calls me by my spouse's name. You have no idea what an uphill battle it is every time I fill a form, sign up for something or call an office; it confuses people that we don't share the surname and that mine is actually two separate words that I refuse to hyphenate or mash together, I feel so strongly feel about that I fight the battle every single time. So Crowley doing the opposite just wasn't clicking. Thank you for explaining! :) I would absolutely loooove to read the dad and Javier stories. I know they might not be happy or they may have been happy at some point and now they have been reinterpreted, but I would love to read them all the same. I think things like this help round a character, give more context and backstory and I love that. Besides, we already know he gets his happy ending ;) This has nothing to do with the fact that I am completely fascinated? intrigued? by Eve and Crowley's relationship both before and during Javier :P ;) but that is probably another whole post of its own XD XD BTW you did write that Ezira's dad died in a car accident, and that was one of the things that made his mom sort of estrange herself from him. Yay for backstories! Oh yes, and the last thing. I have been watching DtS, I have been binging the thing, I am so engrossed and I utterly blame you ;). So. Much. Drama. it is like real life Game of Thrones with racecars instead of dragons and more inbreeding than an Egyptian dynasty, and I am loving it XD XD

Hi! Doing a re-read of #RR for the nth time a question popped up in my head... how and when did AJ's parents die? I don't think it was ever mentioned. Ezira dwells a lot on his dad's death and in his mom's reaction. But other than getting rid of the whole estate when it happened, we don't know how AJ's parents passed (I sort of have the feeling they died together maybe). Was the fight with his dad after AJ DNF'ed the last time they talked? Do you have a hc about it? Been wondering for a while

Hellooooo! This is a great question with an unsatisfactory answer! I have never really determined how they died. I also have only a loose idea on how Ezira's dad passed (I don't think I've concretely mentioned it).

TW for abuse that is consistent with #RR. There are maybe some spoilers for future content I may or may not write that I have headcanoned for a long time below the cut.

The fight was one of the last few times they spoke. It was one of the last times Crowley Sr. ever tried to push AJ around, and he suffered dire consequences for it, financially and reputation-wise. The thing about parents who abuse their kids is, one day that kid grows up to be an adult, a beheamoth of an adult in this case, while the parent grows old and frail. AJ put fear in his father that day, and it ended their transactional relationship. His death and the estate he left behind was less so an inheritance and more of a fuck you, deal with this crap. And if it hadn't been illegal, AJ would have committed arson.

Of course, decades later, Crowley is still unpacking all of this shit, only realizing now that he went from one abusive relationship (his father) to another (Javier) without really acknowleging them for what they were until years later.

My not-so-little headcanon has always been that AJ has a difficult relationship with his surname. He doesn't really like being a Crowley, but that's his brand now (note that he has also never really liked his 'brand' either). So he lets slide Raph's jokes about him being "Mr. Phale" cos doesn't that sound nicer? The first time Raph ever called him that, something twigged in AJ's brain, and it wasn't, "I want to marry Ezira" necessarily, but "I don't have to be Crowley."

So he starts to use it a little here and there casually outside of official capacities, like ordering pizza or picking up the nibling from daycare. And they go to brunch meetups and book clubs with an ever-evolving group of people who don't always recognize them right away, and they introduce themselves as Anthony and Ezira Phale. And it's nice. Weird at first. But when Ezira doesn't really comment on it and signs them under reservations as a couple, AJ's shoulder relax.

But also, Ezira has helped him like the other half of himself, the Hyde to his Dr. Jekyll, so to speak. Because Anthony Fucking Crowley isn't a trainwreck anymore or a has-been. He's a mentor and an inspiration, a legend, and while that is discomfitting in its own way, it's better than the unrepetent, unloved, unforgivable AJ Crowley of old.

I've always liked this idea when I make up little stories about them in my head because it seems very in line with canon!Crowley who goes through several name changes, trying on different hats (aha!) until he finds one that fits best. I don't think he'll change his name ever in an official capacity, but he enjoys the person he gets to be behind the scene when he isn't front-facing.

So, he says, "Who cares about my parents? I don't," and that's why they rarely get mentioned.

Ravana is considered an almost sacred name to insectoids. And a rather manly one at that. It used to be bestowed to the mightiest of warriors among all of the swarms in mewni. Gadfly didn’t tell Scylla this when he suggested it as a name for their daughter, which she is still annoyed about to this day. Gadfly doesn’t regret it however, and named her having full confidence she'd be the strongest of their people.

Scylla got Dagon’s name from a book she came across on Earth from Stanton. When she ended up running across the actual Dagon later, he was flattered that someone named their offspring after him.

Cetus found Deep during a swim to clear his head and quickly grew attached to him. When he asked if he could keep him, Astro (with Fum’s help) carved out a tunnel from the castle ground to the sea so they could accommodate the kraken, forming the lake outside of the castle today.

After Astro took the throne, one of his first deeds was rearranging the land and territory of the kingdoms and tribes to accommodate everyone as much as possible. It was a long and tedious process and more than a few complaints rose up from both the kingdoms and tribes.

During this process, he had the Butterfly castle relocated to the middle of Mewni so that he could oversee all the kingdom and tribes equally. Some of his advisors were worried that it might be easy for his enemies to surround and attack him, but Astro told them they were welcomed to try. So far the few attempts were easily crushed.

Astro and Python are still on uneasy terms, and there’s always tension when they’re around one another. They won’t hesitate to show up when either of their families are threatened however, and when Dorado and Lars were younger Python often hovered around the castle whenever Astro was away.

Lacerta considered Vander a ‘Junior’ member of the King’s Crew. He allows him to tag along on missions (despite both Astro and Hody’s concerns) so he can watch how ‘real monsters’ do things.

Astro once admitted that Turq was his favorite nephew. He didn’t know anyone else was listening but the rest of his nieces and nephews have never let him forget they know. He’ll deny it and say he was just joking nowadays, but when nobody else is looking at him and Turq will share a nod or a thumbs up.

Sirius and F5 both still live in the Butterfly castle. Sirius serves as a tutor to them and will answer any questions they have, while F5 simply roams the grounds and acts as a sort of bodyguard for the family. Aqua likes to study with the golem sometimes, and Cetus will just sit and talk with him since he’s a ‘good listener’.

Astro still gets into arguments with some members of the air nymph tribes about F5. They claim that he should be returned to them since he’s technically their property. Astro contests this but welcomes them to “Come try and take him” if they like.

Delphine and Hikaru are rather passive aggressive towards one another. They’re all false smiles and thinly veiled insults. Hikaru brings up that she’s counted among the 12 Zodiacs, while Delphine always holds that she’s an actual princess over her.

Dusk and Dawn had been obsessed with fusion ever since they’ve seen Morgan do it. They’d been doing research and trying to learn a spell to fuse with each other. Astro and Nia know of the spell, but don’t use it since they're not sure the boys are ready for that type of power yet.

Umbriel once picked the Twins, Rain, and DJ up from school. While there he heard a student poking fun at DJ and turned him into a ferret. The kids made him turn the kid back… eventually. They’ve never poked fun at DJ again.

The twins always have their powers restrained by Nia and AJ when they’re in school since they know how quick to get irritated they can be. They always play nice during school hours, but when it’s over and they're back they consider it free game and start going down their hit list.

As they get older and grow closer, the reader is suddenly declared dead after her war ship is blown up before Azula is named Firelord, which is the last strike to Azula losing her mind during the final battle? It all started with my parents selling baby me to Fire Lord Azulon. Apparently they needed money that bad and wanted me to have a 'better life' knowing damn well I would probably become a palace servant. However, the Fire Lord seemed to take pity on me after learning that I was a firebender at the young age of 2, when I started learning to cook. After I impressively firebreathed at my caretaker, who refused to give me a chili pepper, he immediately heard of the incident and placed me in the care of General Iroh, who was to train and teach me the arts of firebending.

At the impressive age of 5, I’d mastered fire using non-conventional forms. I studied waterbending and airbending forms and used those to make me more effective as a master of the arts. I also took great pride in Iroh’s teachings of the mind, body, and soul. It opened my eyes to the great things I could accomplish if I had the ambition. I was also introduced to Prince Zuko and Princess Azula, the royalty that I'd be personally guarding once my training was finished. They both latched onto to me very quickly, as I had that playful charm, but a powerful aura that made them feel safe.

By the time I hit 8, I was made the personal guard of the prince and princess. 

“You are to guard them with your life and keep them in line, behaviorally and training-wise, Private L/n. They are to respect you as they would me. You know what to do if they do not.” Fire Lord Azulon had told me during my official inducting ceremony. I bowed, honored to have been given a position that thousands of so-called 'masters' fought so vehemently for.

As soon as I was dismissed, I ran to the courtyard where Azula and Ty Lee were doing somersaults. Mai was sitting against a tree fiddling with her fingers while Zuko walked with his mother, Ursa. As I walked over to the three girls to tell them the news, I watched Azula fail to stick her landing. As a result, she retaliated when Ty Lee landed perfectly by pushing her to the ground. I stopped walking once I reached them and gave Azula a stern look.

“Azula, you need to stop being mean to your friends. Just because you’re a princess doesn’t mean that your behavior is acceptable.” I grunted out. She stopped laughing after seeing that I was completely serious and helped Ty Lee from the ground, apologizing after. Azula then skipped over to me and gave me a hug before waving her friend over.

We huddled together for a second before she whispered, “Watch this.” She skipped over to Ursa and urged her to let Zuko play with us. Once he came over, Azula demonstrated the ‘game’ that we would be playing. “We have to try to knock the apple off the other person’s head, like this!”

She shot an orange flame at Mai’s head and caught the apple on fire, prompting Zuko to panic and save Mai from catching on fire. However, he ended up tackling her into a water fountain that was behind them. Azula, Ty Lee, and I laughed and started cooing them until they walked away in embarrassment.

At the age of 11, we all learned that General Iroh’s son had passed away during battle and that Iroh was coming home. It hit home for me, as Lu Ten acted as my older brother after I was taken in as Iroh’s pupil. Time seemed to pass by very fast until I was suddenly in the throne room of the palace with Prince Ozai, Prince Zuko, Princess Ursa, Princess Azula. Ozai had requested an audience with Fire Lord Azulon to show the advancement of his children’s skills.

As usual, Azula excelled like a master in the making, but Zuko wasn’t at the same level yet. In the end of it, Azulon ordered me to escort the kids out of the room for a private discussion with Ozai.

While we walked out, Azula grabbed my hand and we all snuck back in to listen. I didn’t really pay attention to the heated conversation between father and son, as I was solely focused on the princess’ hand in mine. At some point, a frightened Zuko ran out, but Azula and I stayed until the discussion was over.

We ended up walking to my room, which was between theirs. After I closed the door, I sunk to the floor. I never got to express my grief about Lu Ten’s death because I was constantly expected to never show deep emotion. I forgot that Azula had come in with me, so she watched as I quietly broke down in sobs. It almost surprised me when she sat next to me and cradled my shoulders in comfort, knowing that I was going through a hard time. She didn’t say anything even after I was done and helped me out of my armor and into bed. 

“Get some sleep, Y/n. A lot of things are going to be happening tomorrow.” She said as she walked out and closed the door.

At the age of 13, Fire Lord Ozai challenged Zuko to an Agni Kai, making me jump up during the war council to object, as it was my sole duty to defend the prince, no matter who it was to. “No! As my duties pertain, I am the one who will participate in this Agni Kai! The prince shall not be harmed, my Lord!”

Fire Lord Ozai widened his eyes for a split second, surprised that one his most trusted and obedient guards was speaking out against him, during a war meeting nonetheless.

He fumed. “It may be your duty to protect Prince Zuko, but he needs to learn discipline! I will give you a day to train him before the challenge, but that is the only mercy I will give. Now, take him and get out of my sight, Private L/n!”

I grabbed Zuko by the upper arm and pulled him up. I then dragged him out of the throne room that had noticeably grown hotter in temperature.

Once we were far away enough, I led him to the training grounds and punched a purple fireball at him, catching him off-guard. He yelled and dropped flat on the ground, narrowly avoiding the flames. “What are you doing?!”

I angrily got into my stance. I bent my arm to where my right elbow was next to my ear with my fist parallel to the side of my face. My left arm stuck out like a punch, except my hand was opened rather than in a fist. It matched Zuko’s stance since he took inspiration from me and wanted us to have an identical fighting style.

“Fight me.” I growled angrily. “Iroh and I warned you not to speak up during the council, yet you did! Show me what you’ll do during the Agni Kai, Zuko!”

He shakily got up, realizing how angry he’d made me. He got into his stance and sent weak firelashes toward me, not putting enough momentum behind his strikes. I cut through the fire in a rage, not caring that it was burning my skin. How dare he be so weak when he had an Agni Kai tomorrow!

I firebreathed at him with what sounded close to a dragon roar. The flames spread everywhere as my anger only rose. “Y/N!” Solid arms wrapped around me, cooling me down a little bit. Azula yelled through the roaring, “Y/N, STOP! YOU’RE HANDS ARE BLEEDING!”

I listened to her on command and realized that I had obliterated most of the training equipment. Zuko was lying on the pavement again, cowering in fear while Azula held me in place. Wetness ran down my face uncontrollably. My brother would be no match for the general he was to face and I wouldn’t be able to protect him. Another person I care about would die tomorrow along with my honor.

How dare he?!

At the age of 16, I was promoted to captain and given my own ship to command. By this age, I'd begun to hate Fire Lord Ozai with a passion.

A while ago, during the Agni Kai, everyone was surprised when they found out that Zuko would be fighting his father rather than the general he spoke out against. When Zuko bowed and started begging for his life as Ozai approached him, I’d gotten up and almost ran on stage until the same solid pair of arms wrapped around me and held me in place again.

“I’m sorry, Y/n, but he has to do this on his own.” Azula had said. As much as I’d grown to love her, I had to disagree. He couldn’t do this on his own. He was a child, as were we.

I flinched away from the memory, focusing on my current mission at hand. I was to find Zuko and bring him back to the capital, as he and Iroh were both apparently traitors. Honestly though, how surprising. You give him a huge scar and then banish him, expecting him to remain loyal to you?!

I scoffed in contempt. Once I completed that task, we were to find and retrieve the Avatar, dead or alive, which was something I was wholeheartedly against.

I sighed and rubbed my forehead as a familiar voice spoke out from behind me.

“Are you just going to sit in here and sulk all day, or are you going to train with me?” I heard Azula say from the doorway of my room. I chuckled and turned around to see her giving me that signature smirk.

Azula was to be the successor of Ozai instead of Zuko, as she was the promising prodigy. Ozai tried turning her into a monster, but I was the line that he couldn’t cross. Part of the reason why he promoted me was to get me away from her so that he could turn her, but she always found a way to be at my side and get my advice. I knew she was a ticking time bomb due to the level of her father's abuse, but I loved her too much to leave her on her own. I wouldn’t let her turn into her father so long as I was alive. And that was what I worried about these days.

I smiled and bowed, to which she snorted. “Of course, O’Princess Azula. We shall duel!”

She came over and kissed my cheek before grabbing my hand to lead me away from my thinking. “I am glad that you think of me so highly, Captain Y/n.”

After I’d turned 19, Sozin’s comet was nearly here. I was to participate in the raid on all of the nations and burn it all to the ground. I, of course, wasn't going to do that and had joined Team Avatar to stop Ozai. 

Azula didn’t know that I switched sides, as her father sent me away a couple months ago on a ‘scouting mission’ before declaring her Fire Lord and then declaring himself Phoenix King. I knew that she would be stressed under the weight of the title without me there, so I tried my damndest to go back to her and convince her to switch sides. However, fate decided differently. 

An explosion rocked my ship and soon sent me spiraling into blackness.

I’ll find my way back to you, Azula. Before it’s too late for you.

(3rd POV)

As soon as Azula learned of your death, she broke. Her mental state completely broke into pieces right before her.

She banished everyone from the palace and went into a frenzied state, seeing you and her mother everywhere she looked. She’d just got done cutting her hair when she looked in the mirror and saw you smiling. Illusion!You didn’t even have to say anything for her to start crying uncontrollably. Why did the fates have to be so cruel? You should be here ruling at her side!

When she blinked, it was her mother, Ursa, standing in your place, telling her that she was loved. A brush was thrown at the mirror and shattered the glass on impact.

After Azula got dressed and went outside for her coronation, the ceremony was stopped by her annoying brother, Zuko, and Katara, the Water Tribe peasant.

"You want to be Fire Lord? Fine, let's settle this. Just you and me, brother, the showdown that was always meant to be; Agni Kai!"

Zuko agrees to the challenge after seeing that something was off about her.

"I'm sorry it has to end this way, brother." Azula growls out.

"No you're not."

Once the battle was over and Azula was in chains, she started thrashing around while screaming and crying. "Y/N!" She sobs. "WHY?!"

OH MY GOD YES!! YES I DO!!! Sibling dynamics are some of my favorite things so yes I have many lol. Who was the last person you took a photo with? Was it self-taken? Angela and I took so many photos last Sunday. It was a mixture of selfie shots and photos taken by Hans.

Have you ever tried to learn another language? How did it go? Yeah, I enrolled in the Spanish and Korean courses on Duolingo. Spanish went smoothly for a while until it got to a point where it felt like I was just doing it as a game; the verb tenses eventually got too difficult as well, so it was natural for me to just take an indefinite break altogether. 

Korean was way too challenging from the beginning because of how similar the vowels sounded on the app; it was so much easier to just watch Korean shows and learn to read Hangul/pick up Korean from there.

When was the last time you charged your phone? It’s charging at the moment. It was at 2% just a few minutes ago.

So, what are your plans for the near future (a year)? Save money and get better at my job.

Do you prefer questions about trivial things, or more deep and meaningful? You mean on surveys? Trivial things. I like taking surveys so I can take a quick break away from life, not so I can get existential crises along the way.

What can you hear right now? Tell me even the tiniest things. I’m listening to music on my headphones and it’s pretty loud, so this is the only thing I can hear. My fan is also currently on its strongest level so I know it’s being quite loud, but I can’t hear it.

Where did you last ride in a car to and why? I went to the McDonald’s drive thru to pick up my BTS Meal lol

Tell me about a person that comes to your head whose name starts with M. A batchmate from high school named Mavic. We’ve talked like once since graduating, and it was her recommending some GOT7 songs to me since I had mentioned in a tweet that I found their music pretty good.

Do you drink alcohol? How often? Yes. Maybe once or twice a month, I’d say.

Do you have any bills that need to be paid right now? Nopes.

Can you rap freestyle? Or at least sing raps from songs? I can’t do freestyle but yeah I memorize a few rap songs, specifically from Watch the Throne since I had a phase where I was heavily into the album. I can rap some Korean verses but I’ll mostly need my phone as guidance to read the lyrics as I find them impossible to memorize hahaha.

What was the last type of soup you ate? Miso soup, from my Yabu meal last night.

When was the last time you had brunch? My family and I usually have brunch on Sundays, so this morning.

Does your bedroom door have a lock on it? Do you have to use it? It does. I use it occasionally during the day so my mom doesn’t just barge in - as she does - during my shift, especially if I have an important meeting coming up. Lately I’ve also been locking my room at night, just because.

How many times a year do you travel away from home? If you mean TRAVEL travel and not just driving to the next city to go to the mall, maybe 3-4 times a year. Obviously we’ve had to put a stop to that for now, but that’s the average.

Describe your go-to outfit to me, please. T-shirt or blouse + mom jeans.

Do you like your job? Why or why not? I do like it as it’s in line with my interests and strengths. It’s just very stressful this month as there are so many big campaigns we have to support in June so I’m not exactly having a very dandy time right now. But I like the job overall.

How about your boss? What's your boss like? I work under two bosses; one is my manager and another is a director. They’re both great and are very helpful guides. It also helps that the three of us are very close in age, so there’s no layer of intimidation that lingers when we work together.

Do you have a credit card? Do you rely on it? I don’t have a credit card per se but I have a credit line on one of my apps that I will use a few times a month. No, I make it a point not to be reliant on it and only use it for emergencies.

Are you bitter about anything at the moment? Tell me about it. Just the fact that it’s Sunday again and I have to work tomorrow when I feel barely well-rested. I love my job and working on the BTS Meal has been sunshine and rainbows, but I need to breathe lmao.

What colour is your bath towel? At the moment, it’s sky blue.

Who was the last person you saw a movie at the cinema with? Who paid? Gabie. We paid for our own tickets.

Because I like lists and cataloguing the dumb shit I cared about. As my brother once said after seeing and reviewing NOW YOU SEE ME on a lazy Sunday, ‘Some would say it was a waste of time, others might say it was a colossal waste of time.’

Have you ever cried while writing a reply?

Like .. I think it was a really long time ago back on my Senju Toka blog where she was dying in her husband’s arms?? Though, there were DEFINITELY times where I got REALLY CLOSE to crying! Uhh.. hold on lemme think..  There was also this one time where Clementine and @weprevail‘s Mitch were doing a drinking game where they had to like make presumptions on each other’s pasts - and there’s like no boundaries - and the setting was on like... her birthday and the confessions that came out of her ( and Mitch, too actually ) was absolutely TRAGIC AND BEAUTIFUL AT THE SAME TIME?? Like.. one of her confessions was that Clementine wants children one day but she thinks that she’ll fail them or watch them die or they’ll be afraid of her after hearing of the things she’s done in order to survive.  Thanks for ripping out my heart Hope LMAO

There was also a reunion RP between Lee and Clementine with @softiv in an AU where he survives and they end up reuniting at the ski lodge and it’s been like... THREE YEARS AND SHE THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD?? I WAS SO HAPPY OKAY. There was also this one RP with @zombeam​ that almost had me cryin like a bitch and it was where Ben and Clementine reunited after literally TEN YEARS from being separated and I WAS SO HAPPY?????? OH MY GOD??  I HAVE TO REPLY BUT STI LL

I’ve also been plotting with @youngshct and I think we’re gonna end up doing an AU scene where both Clementine and AJ end up turning in the barn and you can BET THIS BITCH WILL BAWL WHEN THAT HAPPENS. It’s gonna be the same exact thing with @prctecthem where James and Clementine reunite after like a few months since Take Us Back and they had their little confrontation, it’s gonna get really emotional.

What’s one thing that other people seem to hate that doesn’t bother you?

Hmmm... this is tricky because I’m honestly laid back about a lot of things. But if I had to pick, I think it’d have to be the fact that people are SO unwilling to explore darker themes or make their canon characters unique and different and distinct? Like... I’m honestly sure that I can write pretty much almost anything. After reading A Song Of Ice and Fire / watching Game of Thrones and reading up on H.P Lovecraft and Stephen King... I’m pretty sure nothing fazes me anymore. Of course, I’ll tag things and discuss things of such matters and constantly make sure they’re comfortable writing a topic and I’ll drop a thread if it means making you feel okay, but like... I literally portray a once sweet and innocent little girl turned murderer and torturer ( who could very well possibly be raising a future sociopath in AJ even if it is unintentional ) in a zombie apocalypse. Clementine isn’t Lee’s little sweetpea anymore. Her experiences have fucked her up in more ways than one and I’m not afraid to write about it and I HATE it when people sugarcoat the things that happen to their muses psychologically. My portrayal of Clementine in her backstory has pretty much every major trigger you can think of. Will I tag these triggering things? Yes. Will I sugarcoat them? No... no, fam, I hate to break it to you, but I won’t.

Why was Mountie Nate sauntering when he heard Lucas was running towards trouble? He should've been galloping and then some. I'd love to know your analysis of why the drama didn't work. It felt forced and fake to me. Not believable.

I’ll give you a brief synopsis of why I think drama in general doesn’t work in this series.

1. Character relationships and/or motivations are weak.

2. They film in a patch of forest that feels like it’s the size of your average master bedroom and time/distance is meaningless. 

3. There are never any consequences.

All right, so let’s start with the first point: weak relationships and motivations. Depending on the drama in question, it’s usually one or the other, but occasionally you’ll find it’s both. I gave a good example in my write-up of the Frank plotline. We didn’t think anyone would die, but we also didn’t feel like everyone was safe, either. Jesse acted as a go-between enough that we knew he was being used; we knew Frank was being watched; we knew something could happen at any moment. Sure, the actual drama was little overall (rock through window, our boys converging on the enemy, Jesse rushing in to save Frank), but there was a build-up to it, Jesse got hurt, and when threats were made, they felt legitimate enough to be a real and honest concern. By courting Abigail, Frank inadvertently made her a target.

To contrast that, Nathan and Lucas barely have a relationship at all and in fact nobody really has a solid relationship with the new guys. The worry Fiona expressed to Elizabeth wasn’t detailed enough for my liking to start (I mean, if she was like, “Look she was panicked, you could tell, and the way he ran out of the saloon…it was something serious, I know it.” we’d have something more concrete to believe in; this is the problem we had in S5 when Abigail had Bill look into the widow–more info would have made it make sense). Then Elizabeth talks to Lucas but I really and truly didn’t feel like we’d SEEN them interact closely enough to justify her acting so worried about him, or at least the way she went to get help, if that makes sense. Why not go in there like “YO LUCAS GOT A GUN I’m worried he’s gonna go kill someone”? I mean, that’s the actual concern there, not so much that Lucas is gonna get hurt.

I could go on forever but nobody knows Lucas well enough to be That Concerned about this. If Elizabeth’s concern was that Lucas was going to kill someone, maybe Nathan would have gone a little faster. :P

Which brings me to my second point. Time is an illusion in this series. What month is it? Day? Year? It was August a couple of episodes ago. What month is it now? Who knows? How can Jack have been dead over a year? How did Elizabeth find out she was pregnant and deliver a full term baby less than a month later??????

It drives me batty. I hate it. It’s not that hard to keep a timeline; they should have been doing this from the start. 

But to add to the confusion, Cape Fullerton, which would be hundreds of miles away, is somehow travelable in mere hours (or at bare minimum a day). That makes the drama here seem fake, too. Why would Lucas leave his friend back east if he’s out west and can’t get to her in a few hours at a bare minimum? What good is he? His whole history and everything just shatters with that knowledge. Are we supposed to believe he’s an actual idiot? I can’t imagine so!

So on the way back they employed something that has driven me mad since for a while, and that is Extremely Slow Horse Walking.

I could roll along on the ground faster than these people are allowed to walk their horses!!!!!!!

And the reason is because of filming and like, the ‘forest’ they film in is very small. You can see too much sky sometimes; it’s obviously just this little patch of land lol. It was the most obvious in S5 when Bill and AJ were riding double and he was walking along toward the place where they had to film the snake stuff but like at a SNAIL’S PACE. I mean it was awkward because the horse wasn’t even able to step normally.

And sure Nathan and Lucas weren’t going that slow, but they were crawling compared to how they ought to have been if they were actually worried. You’d think Lucas would kick that horse into gear and go rushing back toward Hope Valley!

Finally my third point… CONSEQUENCES: or lack thereof. It’s enough to drive anybody crazy, but it seems like people who should suffer the consequences of their actions don’t, and characters who maybe don’t deserve it as much do.

Sure, they needed Henry for more seasons so they got him out on parole lol, but we’re all sitting here like, okay but how could he get out on parole while AJ’s gotta do her time? When the reason is Because We Don’t Want to Hire Her for the Next Season it’s like…really. You couldn’t have gone with something else?

That’s a pretty minor case, though, ‘cause at least Henry faced some consequences. Heck, he had a few seasons of them if you really think about it. But on a general level you’ll notice that Abigail got away with everything she did and never put anything in danger: not herself, her relationships, her position as mayor, nothing. That’s a problem! Clara disagrees with Jesse and yeah, we know they love each other, but it still feels like a risk. Lucas and Elizabeth in the saloon… Eh. They played it up so hard and yet we ALL KNEW nobody was gonna get hurt. Not Bill, not Nathan, not Elizabeth, not Lucas. We knew the bad guys would get caught and Lucas would get his money back.

The drama falls flat and feels boring because it is. I’m not saying we should operate like Game of Thrones and start offing characters for shock value because we don’t get how to write a sociostory instead of a psychstory. But we shouldn’t ever feel that literally every character is safe from all harm. 

(And the whole town running toward the danger was stupid. The only person in that town likely to run toward trouble is Bill. Everyone else wouldn’t do that. It made the drama feel silly. Maybe if people were peeking out their front doors or something, but they ran like a mob right over there. UGH.)

Seriously, if Nathan would have been shot, we’d all be like, “Holy shit that was so dramatic!” But literally nothing happened. Of course Nathan found an easy way in! Of course the front door was unlocked! Of course Lucas failed to get the upper hand with his own gun! Of course Elizabeth and Lucas were able to overpower the guy with a little teamwork!

I mean, we had similar stuff with Bill and AJ in S4, but the difference was that the plot never pretended it was dramatic suspense. They were out there in broad daylight and the plan could have gone awry but it didn’t.

The show trying to trap you into feeling suspense only for nothing bad to happen kind of feels like a letdown! 

(S5′s Bill and AJ scenes were closer to this kind of bad drama. The script was stilted, it felt like things were cut out, and worse: when it was over Bill’s just perfectly fine. He wouldn’t be. He’d need weeks to recover from a bite like that. And that lack of ‘consequence’ (and lack of mention of it later, because surely Carson would be confided in) made it all fall completely flat. Not that it would have been good WITH it, but there was no reason not to include it in the next episode. Bill barely did anything there except get laughed at.)

I guess this wasn’t so brief, but yeah these are the reasons drama in this show tends to feel flat. They try too hard to convince you that it’s dramatic and suspenseful! And then nothing happens of import. You’re lucky if character relationships shift in a believable, reasonable manner. But there are almost never any real consequences for something happening unless they can conveniently toss a consequence out that also involves taking a character off the show or offscreen for a while.

The Take’s On Veep Ending Afterthought

After watching The Take’s “take” on the ending of Veep, there are many points in the video that I disagree upon. Granted the women at the Take are quite intelligent and very thoughtful with their video essays on TV shows and films from comparing and contrasting history and philosophy into them as references and their valid points don’t come out to be pretentious at any extent. However, the thing is with some of their videos that they over-analyzed TV shows such as the symbolism in Breaking Bad’s pool as a image of one darker scenes in that groundbreaking show.

I see the validity of such arguments in their finale of Veep such as the parallels of the Trump administration and real world politics much like the creator’s past show, “The Thick of It” mocks real life politics in Britain. I also agree on her statements with Selina having this greedy ambition to become President, risking everything and everyone to do it even her closest confident, Gary who is her bagman but more importantly, more integral to her everyday life since the beginning when she became a politician  It’s the meaning of sacrifice like Selina says in the end and what The Take points out, that she utterly destroys everyone to get to the presidency.

Now, here’s what I disagree with the points afterwards; The Take says Selina compares to Queen Daenrys in Game of Thrones and her pursuit of the Iron Throne. To some extent, I do agree, her personal ambition was the Iron Throne and she wanted to “break the wheel” or destroy all who oppose her. There is some similarities between them both, true but the fact is that, throughout the whole show, Danys was this saviour of slaves in Essos, who become what she is but was evidently become more evil when she arrives at Westeros and it becomes more evident of her madness, in league of what her father, the Mad King did back then. What should the Take should of said is that Queen Cersei was more like Selina as they both want what is their’s and will destroy anyone who opposes her. The Take left out one thing, even when Danys’ closest companions died in front of her eyes in which the turning point of the show made her a “supervillain”, and having everyone to “bend the knee” to her; Selina however doesn’t forget people like Amy badmouthing her before and firing her on the spot. This felt more like Queen Cersei when she, aside from killing the High Sparrow, Margaery and most of the Tyrells in the Sept of Baelor, sent her monsterous bodyguard “The Mountain” to kill even people who speak ill of her such as a peasant in Season 6 after the famous “Shame” scene. You could say that Qyburn is somewhat like a Gary to her as Hand of the Queen, in which they are both loyal to the end even if they’re methods are extreme.

One other thing, much like Jonah parallels to Trump, both of them are in a incestous relationship, Cersei still in love in Jaime and Jonah marrying Beth who is his step-sister. Although it is played with comedy that Jonah has no knowledge that Beth is his step-sister with Lloyd revealing that he was his step-father, it is somewhat similar, that Selina’s presidency and Queen Cersei have some kind of incestous relationship. It is vague though but one thing to point out.

As what I said previously with Selina being a “supervillain” throughout the show as they bash on the character being evil and selfish. Aside from Queen Cersei, there are many anti heroes or villains that star in shows who we cheer on, much like Tony Soprano, Walter White and Don Draper. It could be said that the latter two redeemed themselves and develop more good inside of them. Such as Walter White admitting to Jesse and Skyler that “what he did is for himself” not for them in relation to his meth growing empire and Don relinquishing his past that haunts him as well as neglecting to even cheat or become an alcoholic and finding some peace and solidarity in a retreat. But for Tony, there was no redeeming for the New Jersey mob boss. Granted there are some light-hearted scenes with him and his kids, AJ and Meadow but we see troubled mafisco killing Ralph just because he killed his horse and beat up a stripper even though everyone advise him that he was a good investor and that even after his coma, seeing his wife, Carmela take care of him, he veers back to cheat behind her back with Chris’s “gumar” in Vegas after he suffocated him in a car wreck. Melfi’s own therapist even stated that sociopaths much like Tony himself use therapy as a tool to better their actions which cause Melfi to end her sessions with Tony after that realization. Tony, throughout the whole series in which we cheer for him being the “anti-hero” is actually a “supervillain” like Selina; in somewhat similarities between the two; they both cheat and they are both people who not to mess with. They are both strong character who get what they want in the show, and will destroy anyone who opposes them.

Overall, The Take has always been quite insightful and smart with their videos, it feels like a university-written essay with valid and thoughtful references to back it up. There are not really quite like it on Youtube as it is overshadowed by terrible content that is often either clickbait or theories on shows that makes no sense. This Veep analyst of the ending was interesting to watch but for the first time, I disagree with their comparison with Danys and their critical consensus of Selina.
