irem Collection Volume 2 announced for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch
Gematsu Source
Tumblr media
ININ Games, Tozai Games, and irem have announced irem Collection Volume 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. It will launch digitally on February 20, 2024. Physical edition pre-orders will open on July 16 via exclusively via Strictly Limited Games.
irem Collection Volume 2 will include shoot ’em up games GunForce, GunForce II, and Air Duel.
Here is an overview of the collection, via ININ Games:
About
Welcome to the irem Collection Volume 2, an extraordinary compilation of timeless arcade gems. Whether you’re a retro gaming enthusiast or new to the scene, this collection guarantees excitement!
GunForce (SNES, M-92 Arcade)
This Run and Gun gem will include both the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and arcade versions. Whether you played the original on your childhood Super Nintendo Entertainment System or prefer the much-improved Arcade version, we’ve got you covered!
Often considered to be one of the first run’ n’ gun games, GunForce: Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island can be seen as the initial baby steps that paved the way for the later-released Metal Slug series and its sequel, GunForce II (GeoStorm), both of which were highly acclaimed. GunForce is where it all began, after all!
Originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in the west and in arcades in Japan, you must run and gun your way through hordes of aliens to stop a rogue CPU and restore freedom to the world. The game shows no mercy and throws you into the enemy frontlines right from the start as you parachute into action. And if that’s not enough ’90s action for you, how about doing a wheelie on a motorbike while shooting helicopters?! GunForce has got you covered. As it is now a tradition, GunForce introduced different vehicles f0r the player to control – tanks, helicopters, or motorbikes. Make your choice!
GunForce II (M-92 Arcade)
The official sequel to GunForce never made it out of the arcades, making this release its first official worldwide launch on consoles!
GunForce II, known as GeoStorm in Japan, is the sequel to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and arcade game GunForce. It improves upon GunForce in every way and is considered to be one of the last arcade games from Irem. GunForce II was never released outside of arcades, making its inclusion in the irem Collection Volume 2 its first-ever worldwide console release.
Featuring enhanced animations, improved gameplay, and a killer soundtrack, GunForce II was created by the same staff that later developed the iconic Metal Slug series. It is considered the spiritual predecessor to the Metal Slug series, with many of its sound effects and designs being reused in the series. It is a must-play for all fans! Set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic environment, the game allows you to take control of Max or Lei. Your goal is simple: dual blast your way through five different stages and rack up those high scores! Vehicles make a return, as is tradition, including motorbikes, mechs, and tanks, to name a few.
Air Duel (M-72 Arcade)
Rounding out Volume 2 is another arcade-exclusive game. Air Duel was only ever released in Japanese arcades, and this marks its first official worldwide release on consoles. In this classic shoot ’em up, you can switch your aircraft before every new stage, a feature that was groundbreaking back in the day!
The year is 2004. Earth has been devastated by an unprecedented nuclear war, and a secret organization called D.A.S. is rising to ensure chaos in the world. It is now your job to thwart their mischievous plans and save what remains of the world! Air Duel is a 2D vertical scrolling shoot ’em up that was exclusively available in Japanese arcades and never made it to the West. Its inclusion in the irem Collection Volume 2 marks its first-ever worldwide console release.
Developed by the same legendary team at Irem that brought you GunForce and later the Metal Slug series, Air Duel offers seven challenging stages that need to be mastered either alone or with a friend in co-op. Choose your aircraft! Whether you prefer shooting forward only with the Jet Fighter FG-40 or firing crosswise with the Helicopter E-709, your playstyle is key to victory. Together with GunForce and GunForce II, Air Duel completes the irem Collection Volume 2.
And that’s not all! For all the games, we have included Online Leaderboards & Global Rankings. If you seek a real challenge, this is your call!

Duel Links Re-Translation Mod Project (Announcement post I guess?) - Dark Yugi In-Duel Line Re-Translation Test (WIP)
(Alternate project tagline: #LetYubelSayLove)
(Forgive some video stuttering, my Nvidia game recording thing was a bit buggy 😩)
~~~~~~~~
So. For the longest, I've been hella curious to figure out where the text for Duel Links is in the file assets, the in-duel lines in particular--as I'm sure most folks know, the English dubtitle text applied for the English dialogue is, nine times out of ten, inaccurate or decently simplified vs the Japanese audio played on the same line, and it's a bit wild that we still don't have a second English option for a more faithful take this long after Konami gave us the Japanese voices natively on Steam and made modding the game to get them a thing of the past. But for all my occasional searching through the files, I had little luck due to encryption and junk; at some point in September, I got curious and did more digging and was able to find some card text, at least, but nowhere near as much as is in the game now, and still no dialogue lines.
And then, 2-3 weeks ago, I saw that Aura (Octomaidly over on Twitter, part of @entamesubs handling Studio Bridge-era YGO fansubs for SEVENS+) had been working with a couple of folks to decrypt and re-translate the in-duel lines for SEVENS characters and came across her video on Twitter sharing her progress; I immediately reached out to find out how they're doing it and mentioned how I'd like to try and re-translate pre-SEVENS stuff, lol. (You can watch her latest video demoing her re-translation for GO RUSH world here; find her work as it develops on the NexusMods page for it.)
After connecting with Aura and the folks helping her and getting set up to work on things, I set up a quick re-translation for Dark Yugi's lines, had it all imported for a test-run, and recorded this demo test vs Kaiba to see 'em in action; I did fix a few things since recording this, like some line breaks here/there, but also fixed the one mention of "Dark Magician" in the cut-in shot since this was a test of my OCG-name translation (more on that below) and thus "Black Magician" should've been there--but all told, it looks pretty good overall!
All that to say that this is now another lil' project on my list 😅 It's very cool that this is finally doable and I'm looking forward to working with Aura and co to make it happen--though do note that it'll be at a bit of a slower pace since work on my finalized GX subs (currently revision work on 117-119 is underway) and Tag Force Special is a bit higher priority. That said, the nice thing is that working on in-duel lines in TFSP kinda does half my work for me here, lol; maybe half of Dark Yugi's lines, for example, are recycled verbatim from TFSP--the only difference being that Shunsuke Kazama is actually voicing him--with the rest being lines newly added for him in DL, from lines for dueling other characters to cards he didn't have lines for in TFSP, and this should be the case across the board for anyone who showed up in TF[SP].
My intention is also to work on two translations: one with OCG card names and one with the TCG names, as we're doing with TFSP, and I'll be starting this off by working on the first five characters from each series that appeared in TFSP, since that's how I'm working on the story events there (so for DM, working on Dark Yugi, Kaiba, Jounouchi, Ishizu, and Mai first), and then once done through VRAINS, that might probably be the first version of the mod I'd release. Or maybe I'll release a version as I get each set of five done; we'll see lol. I do plan to contribute my translations to Aura's project, as well. (Also we just recently dug up event dialogue text so those will be re-translatable, too; doing this for the older series' events that likely won't get reruns will at least be worth it since you can spend Gems to get those event scenes)
But overall, it's pretty encouraging--stay tuned!
(For you to talk about anything part you've been dying to talk about on your fanfics 😄)
I’ve been hoarding my director’s cut asks, saving 'em up for a cold winter day like some sort of squirrel with a juicy uh, nut, and now it is time.
In my fics, I gave Sifo-Dyas Soresu as his lightsaber form because I love writing Sifo-Dyas and Dooku as two different halves: Cosmic Force and Living Force, Light side and Dark side. One of them always looking forward, one of them always looking back.
I’ve written much more extensive posts about the forms before, but to quickly summarize, the two forms, II and III respectively, are very much in conversation. Makashi is all attack, whereas Soresu is all defense. Makashi was invented for combat against foes armed with a lightsaber (and interestingly, therefore prioritizes disarming moves against all others - fascinating commentary that dark Jedi or Sith seemed to have been expected to survive their defeat in a duel). Soresu corrects the problem of Makashi’s unsuitability to handle the modern problems of the blaster age, as well as its entire lack of defense. For all of Makashi’s beauty and elegance, it’s a delicate form if you don't have Dooku's physical size and strength to counter that.
Anyway, I really liked imagining Dooku and Sifo-Dyas realizing their forms were essentially two halves, attack and defend. And because they have such a shared chaos energy, kind of just shoving them together in combat to see what would happen. I imagine they've practiced together so many times over the years that they really have the routine down. And then I wrote it for their battle vs. the pirates in Milk Run:
Sifo-Dyas wasn’t just providing defensive cover for Dooku, he was Dooku’s entire defense. Dooku didn’t parry a single bolt, but moved like a blue wall of disintegration through the nearest pirates, severed weapons littering his wake. Sifo-Dyas worked in the very negative space of his body, up against Dooku one moment, then underneath his swing, moving in and out of the Makashi sweeps and turns like moving, living armor. The two fought as a single warrior. It was a trust fall, one with bright death at the end of it if either of them made a single error.
It might have been terrifying to watch, except that Sifo-Dyas’s control of Soresu was perfect: a net of light that caught everything they hurled at Dooku and turned it to harmless air. And Dooku’s Makashi… Qui-Gon couldn’t help the joy at seeing him use it again – use it for real, not in play, or in the cautious training bouts during his injury, when the movements were edged with pain and uncertainty. This was pure Makashi: a poem with hot teeth.
It's actually kinda sexy of Caleb & Evelyn to haunt the narrative so thoroughly while never having any speaking lines or even appearing on screen outside of 400yr old repressed memories, delusions, and/or hyped up folklore
We don't even know for sure if Evelyn was a Clawthorne, or what she looked like, or how the fight between Caleb and Philip went down, or Caleb's reasons for leaving without Philip, or what their half witch half human baby looked like, or how long after Caleb left before Philip found him again, or what Evelyn did when she discovered her dead lover's grave was robbed, or how quickly after killing Caleb did Philip decide "I can make a new Caleb that's Better™"
We have scraps to give us pretty good ideas for most of these, but nope they really just haunt with no reward. Like yeah babes give us nothing!
like for the record, i do not think jack, crow, and yusei's motivations of wanting to prove themself is bad character writing for the wrgp. i think it tracks with their characterization to never fully be satisfied, especially with the fresh reminder from kiryu about the duel gang & how they realize now they could've done more in satellite. saving the world was proof of their abilities, and now they're desperate to test them further. i think it tracks also with their youth too. they're trying to figure out what they want to do with their rest of their lives.
