With all the Google AI BS happening right now, I’m so happy to be using DuckDuckGo and desperately hope they never attempt something like this. I genuinely do not understand why Google went and thought “Oh! Surely feeding our LLM results from spaces on the internet where people can post quite literally anything is a marvelous idea, let’s implement this!”, especially since said LLM clearly cannot detect satire or joke posts if it isn’t clearly stated. Obviously, none of us should be taking anything the internet says seriously without fact checking, but I am vaguely concerned about how naive young children/older people who haven’t adapted to the magical world of the web are going to take things like this, for instance. Haven’t we learned our lesson from ChatGPT hallucinating the most random shit and not accepting “That’s incorrect” for an answer?
#coherent rant over#i’m not anti ai but there are Smarter ways to use it as a tool#and this? this ain’t one of ‘em#ESPECIALLY. especially since you’re the biggest search engine in the world. be responsible#big corps never really are though#not fully anti ai Anyway. i don’t think it’s inherently awful but i don’t know how to feel about it as a whole#and the way people are using and training it right now is no. just No#if you would like to see more examples of just how horrific it is turning out#just check the google ai tag. you’ll see#google ai#* xenoposting#llm#chatgpt#google#serious post#<— which will NOT be a frequent thing#i need to shitpost my heart out ^_^

Unfortunately all chatgpt is good for is interview/job application stuff which I think says a lot about the hiring process as a whole
#wrenfea.exe#as an actual artifical intelligence? no its horrible bc it really ISNT one#its a writing synthesizer it generates writing based on data searches and boundaries from training#thats what a neural network is its a very convoluted input-output sequence#it has no capacity to understand the meaning behind what it generates#it is simply generating the specific things that the user is looking for#the job interview process has become so robotic and automized that ai fits in perfectly#but employers HATE that people are turning to chatgpt for cover letters and interview answers#so it was fair for them to use filtering programs to accept/deny applications before it got in front of an actual human being#and its ok for them to use ai and pre-written formats to make job announcements descriptions and interview questions#but god forbid we are forced to use those exact same tools to get a humans attention so we can get a job and not starve#pushing aside the whole copyright debate on chatgpt and the environmental impact of its power usage btw#im soley analyzing how its become commonly utilized on both sides#by interviewer and interviewed#the mechanization of the whole process is now on both sides#it just seems very inhuman..#its also how some people have figured out how to somehow become employed multiple times by the same company due to lack of human oversight#and how automated theyve made their hiring process#probably should have made these tags into a separate reblog oops#also disclaimer do not cut and paste right into your application materials bc chatgpt often just lies#also many places now can tell you used chatgpt due to how similar its answers are#i only use it to make a template and see how things can be phrased to be more professional and buzzwordy#id never use it for something actually creative#and dear god do not write academic essays with it#i tried using it to supplement my own cover letter template but it was too robotic even for a cover letter#it is very good at accessing and summarizing publically available information#thats all it does not make sure the information is true or good

what really haunts me about trend of replacing actual human-made art with AI art is that 2 years ago, just prior to all of these AI generation apps, i took a cognitive science class which had a whole unit on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and we had an in-class debate on whether AI art was art or not. and i know for a fact that many students made art and had aspirations to work in creative fields (me included) and when we were discussing where AI art would go in the future not a single person out of the 30 people there suggested there would be mass attempts for industries to mechanize art or replace human artists. because to a group of people who a) knows how artificial "intelligence" actually works and b) generally knows how art is made (whether it's writing or painting or acting or singing or whatever) it's just INSANE that there could be any attempt to conflate the two.
and maybe it's telling of our naivety that none of us (professional researchers included) considered that so many people don't really know how AI works or how art is made or that the majority of corporations just sincerely don't care about human-made art and only care about money. but it's also telling how quickly we went from funny chatbots and indecipherable abstract shapes a computer put together to full on professional projects using generated images based off of stolen work rather than paying an artist.
#idk what i'm trying to say here but it's been going around my brain#and even the speed at which *my* opinions have changed is shocking just because i never considered how badly tools would be misused#the last time i talked to someone studying and researching ai they were planning on abandoning the field because of how fucked up it became#like my problem is not with ai itself. it genuinely is an interesting field with potential for useful research.#my problem is how quickly tech bros and corporations looked at a developing tool and decided that artists are disposable#anyways i have a 100 degree fever can you tell#ai discourse#my posts#anyways i even think that there *can* be ai art but the art is in the act of programming (on not stolen works i might add)#and the work acting as a commentary on human made art#the art is wholeheartedly not in someone paying to type a few words in a search bar and seeing what comes up

AI is killing creativity
#i am. in utter disbelief at some of the teachers' view on ai at my art school#just accepting it as if nothing. One of them showed us a#video of how ai was changing the world and stuff like “it just helps people who cant draw to express their ideas”. But where is the humanity#in that???? Art is one of the most beautiful way humans can express themselves and you're just letting a machine do it?? The other day we#had a collage assignment were we had to create a scene for a newspaper article#and there was a student who instead of manually searching#for pictures and modifying them#simply used the generative ai thingy in photoshop. Our teacher then said “did you use ai for that? well if#it does the job#it's fine“ ?!?@#@?@#!?!?@ i am about to destroy a country. I know ai can be used as a tool#like using it for references or#trying to get ideas. But using the result as your final project?????? and the way some people are so nonchalant about it too 😭#I was ranting to my friend about it after class and he just said “idk i dont really care ab ai#it just makes stuff easier“.#My brother in christ!!!!!! you are an artist too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#anyway#i hate ai#ugly ass bitch

Is collage art?
Thanks for dropping by! I'm assuming this is in relation to my last AI comment, so I'm going to answer it in that context. Sorry in advance if it's not, lol.
I love the collage question. It's such a good way to contrast art with AI and to illustrate what art does and what AI fails to do!
Best to clear up first that AI is not a collage of other people's art! A collage takes large chunks of other artworks and arranges them in a new way to fit an artist's vision. The artist puts in work to select specific artworks, identify and cut out shapes, and then arranges them with intent, piece by piece. There is thought and intent behind every step: from identifying the original artworks, all the way through placement. Collage is art!
The original artworks, and the pieces of those artworks, don't belong to the new artist, of course! They still belong to the original authors of those works. Only the arrangement belongs to the new artist, and any collage offered to a public space should identify the source material. In fact, outside of personal use, you need to ask permission to use the original works in your collage! After all, it's by virtue of the original works that the new collage even exists in the first place, so not only should credit be given where it's due, but the original authors still have a say in how someone uses their stuff.
AI significantly differs from a collage. It is not the cutting up of a limited number of recognizable works to fit into a new arrangement. It's the mass copying of lines, colors, shapes, and their associations, from art that belongs to other people. That work of copying and generation is automatically done by a computer, not a person, and there's no intentional or deliberate selection of individual sources, or deliberate placement of the source material into a new arrangement. In essence, there's no "arting" being done like there is with a collage. There's only an algorithm regurgitating a massive amount of mushed data with no understanding or real knowledge of the "arrangement" it creates. Again, it's not even a rearrangement or reimagining of sources like the collage; it's just copying. Moreover, the resulting image fails to credit the original sources, and never asked permission from the authors of those sources in the first place!
Bottom line: Yes, a collage is absolutely art! However, AI images are not a collage, and are not art.
Collage: deliberate source selection, deliberate & thoughtful craft based on an artist's vision, purposeful arrangement that communicates something new as a whole. A human investment of time and effort.
AI: indiscriminate, mass source selection; blind and unintelligent copying of someone else's artistic features; randomly-generated output bounded by constraints. Zero human investment of time or effort.
The AI isn't an artist. It's a machine that spits out what it's been trained to spit out. The person who inputs the constraints/parameters into the AI isn't an artist either - the closest role that person would fill in the art world is a commissioner, which is the person who decides what should be made and gets someone else to make it (usually paying for it), even to the point that instructions are iterated to guide the outcome. Users of AI usually have to pay for the service to get the full results they want, so identifying them as commissioners is spot on. The AI commissioners are commissioning the AI company (via any platform fees and input) for the desired image, and the company uses the AI tool to generate it.
That's besides the fact that the AI image isn't art, but it's certainly a product you commission. Unethically to boot, at this point. :')
#answers#asks#AI#AI info#ty for the ask!#I really like the potential of AI as a tool in the conceptual process of art making#after they wholesale scrap the current datasets and rebaseline all the AI tools off of approved or purchased data#that is#ofc it can never be a finished piece#no part of an AI image is something you own#so allllllll of it has to be redone by hand#every pixel of that AI covered by your own work#well ofc the caveat to that is that you can mock up whatever pretty imagery you like for your own room#or just Google search it and print lol same difference#It's great that people can turn things like AI into fun hobbies like computer games or Netflix#but not every hobby is genuine art#and that's ok!
